- 0:09I was born to kill it.
- 0:14I was meant to win.
- 0:15I am down and willing,
- 0:17so I will find a way.
- 0:18It took a minute,
- 0:19now it didn't happen right away.
- 0:21When it get hot in the kitchen,
- 0:22you decide to stay.
- 0:23That's how a winner's made.
- 0:24Stick a fork in a hater on my dinner.
- 0:34What is going on, everybody?
- 0:35Welcome to the Clydesdale Media Podcast,
- 0:39where we are featuring the
- 0:41athletes of the semifinals.
- 0:43This West Coast Classic Edition,
- 0:45we are featuring Amy Hosking.
- 0:47What's going on, Amy?
- 0:49Hello.
- 0:50Nice to see you, Scott.
- 0:52Yeah, you too.
- 0:53I was going to tell you
- 0:54before we went on air,
- 0:55but I'm going to say it on air.
- 0:57Every year we do the
- 0:58semifinal series and there
- 1:00are stories that like grab
- 1:02me and touch me.
- 1:04And you were one of my
- 1:05favorite interviews last year.
- 1:07And I was rooting for you so
- 1:08hard to make it back this
- 1:10year to have you back on to
- 1:13catch up with you.
- 1:15Thank you.
- 1:15Thank you so much.
- 1:16I really appreciate that.
- 1:18I'm happy to be back on.
- 1:20Yeah, you're going to semis again.
- 1:22I know.
- 1:24Yeah, I'm happy about that too, obviously.
- 1:27So I was looking at your numbers.
- 1:29We talk about that at the
- 1:31beginning of all these shows.
- 1:32Last year you came into the semis in 37th.
- 1:37There were 60 in the field.
- 1:39This year they cut that field to 40.
- 1:41And that 37th looked a little scary.
- 1:44But you crushed that with a
- 1:4627th place going in this year.
- 1:49Was there any trepidation,
- 1:52worry going in when they
- 1:54cut that field down?
- 1:57I mean, initially when it happened, it was,
- 1:59I don't even remember in the season,
- 2:02but I felt pretty confident.
- 2:04Like, okay, I did 37th last year.
- 2:06Like most likely I can get in again.
- 2:09And then as it got closer and closer to,
- 2:12I was getting more and more
- 2:13nervous about it.
- 2:14Just, you know, that's pretty natural.
- 2:17And then,
- 2:17when they released the tests
- 2:19and seeing it was only four
- 2:21tests plus like,
- 2:23I would not call those
- 2:24wheelhouse workouts for me,
- 2:26the quarterfinals workouts.
- 2:27I was like quite,
- 2:31I would say almost
- 2:32depressed for like the
- 2:33first two days of quarterfinals.
- 2:34Cause I was like, I don't,
- 2:36I had such doubts that I
- 2:37could make it in honestly,
- 2:40like that wall ball burpee one,
- 2:42especially like that's
- 2:44going to be a hard workout for me.
- 2:46So you finish the first two
- 2:48and you submit them.
- 2:50Then the leaderboard becomes public.
- 2:53Where did you sit after two days?
- 2:55I was in 63rd,
- 2:58but what I reminded myself of is like,
- 3:01okay, it's not about the placing.
- 3:03Look at the point spread.
- 3:04And it was literally only 35
- 3:07points between me and 40th.
- 3:09So I knew that's nothing.
- 3:12that's nothing.
- 3:13And I feel more confident that I could be,
- 3:16um,
- 3:16like consistently high in the second
- 3:18two workouts.
- 3:20Number one actually worked
- 3:21out to be my best score overall, but, um,
- 3:26yeah,
- 3:26the second two workouts launched me
- 3:28and like,
- 3:28I knew there was going to be
- 3:29more separators in those workouts.
- 3:31Like there's going to be
- 3:33people who can't do
- 3:34Um,
- 3:35strict handstand pushups or wall facing
- 3:37or ring muscle ups once
- 3:38they're like crazy fatigued.
- 3:40Um, yeah, so it worked out.
- 3:43Or 10 rope climbs or.
- 3:46Exactly.
- 3:46Yeah.
- 3:47Or one 65 bar.
- 3:48Like most people can do it,
- 3:49but can you do it for a ton of reps?
- 3:53Right.
- 3:53Especially under fatigue.
- 3:55Um, what order did you do them in?
- 4:00Oh, I did.
- 4:02I did the gymnastics one
- 4:04first and then wall balls
- 4:10and then workout one.
- 4:12And then I repeated the wall
- 4:14balls cause I didn't finish
- 4:17it originally.
- 4:17Um, and I was like, you need to,
- 4:20in my head, I just needed to, to qualify.
- 4:22Um, so yeah,
- 4:24I repeated number two and then.
- 4:28repeated gymnastics and then
- 4:30finish off with the clean and jerk.
- 4:31So I actually only repeated
- 4:33two of the four workouts.
- 4:36Yeah.
- 4:38How much of that wall ball workout
- 4:41I mean, so I went, my co-host Jamie,
- 4:45I went up to her house to
- 4:47watch her do them because I
- 4:48like to see them kind of in
- 4:49action to be able to talk
- 4:52and through the stuff.
- 4:54And for me watching that wall ball workout,
- 4:57it was all mental.
- 4:58It was all,
- 4:59can you tell your body just to
- 5:02keep the pace?
- 5:04Yep.
- 5:04That's what I found too.
- 5:09Like, obviously,
- 5:10you need fitness to do it.
- 5:14Yeah,
- 5:15and it was like a lot of leg fatigue.
- 5:17I feel like honestly,
- 5:18my legs hurt more than I
- 5:20was breathing hard.
- 5:21But it exactly was that the
- 5:23mental side because I was
- 5:26trying to think of it like
- 5:27an erg because like,
- 5:28I can push on an erg and go
- 5:30really hard for 20 minutes, you know,
- 5:32like,
- 5:34I can do really well in a biker,
- 5:36but there's so many
- 5:36opportunities to stop when
- 5:39you're doing burpees.
- 5:41So you had to kind of just
- 5:43stay in a rhythm.
- 5:43I was like, okay, just get into a rhythm.
- 5:46And you have to tell yourself, like,
- 5:48keep going, you can do this,
- 5:50because there's,
- 5:51there's times where you
- 5:52just want to stop.
- 5:52I mean, every single burpee, basically,
- 5:54you want to stop.
- 5:57yeah I that is not my
- 5:59workout clydesdales are not
- 6:01good at those things um but
- 6:04jamie killed it um and I
- 6:06got to watch her she
- 6:07actually sped up in the
- 6:08last round yeah especially
- 6:11on the burpees not the wall
- 6:13ball stayed pretty much
- 6:14steady but then as you know
- 6:16like the lights at the end
- 6:17of the tunnel she was able
- 6:18to kick it up a gear toward the end
- 6:21Um, yeah,
- 6:22we have a couple of people in the
- 6:23chat just saying hi.
- 6:24Uh, Corey Leonard says, yo, uh,
- 6:27Kyle Greenlee.
- 6:28Good morning, Scott.
- 6:30Bradley Davis.
- 6:32The best Amy.
- 6:34Thanks Brad.
- 6:38So you, are you still with OPT?
- 6:41Yep.
- 6:41Yep.
- 6:43And you have a crew up there.
- 6:46Did you guys do the workouts together?
- 6:49um I was always with at
- 6:53least one other person but
- 6:56we were kind of all over
- 6:57the place our um we kind of
- 6:59cycle through three
- 7:00different facilities
- 7:01because we the opt facility
- 7:03um there's lots of other
- 7:05clients like it's not just
- 7:06competitive so we had it
- 7:07blocked off from like 10 to
- 7:092 each day and so if you
- 7:10wanted to do the workouts
- 7:11outside of those time
- 7:12periods you had to go
- 7:13somewhere somewhere else um
- 7:16which is fine.
- 7:17Cause like, for instance,
- 7:18the gymnastics one,
- 7:20the setup's not great in that gym.
- 7:21So we'd all go somewhere else.
- 7:23But, um, yeah,
- 7:25usually we'd stick in packs
- 7:26of like two to five and
- 7:28cheer each other on,
- 7:29which it helps a lot.
- 7:31And, um,
- 7:32obviously like we have a super
- 7:33talented pool of people.
- 7:35Um,
- 7:36so it's always good to push with people
- 7:37who, you know,
- 7:38are gonna like crush
- 7:39specific workouts and have
- 7:41top times in that just to
- 7:43give you an idea of what to push for.
- 7:47How much advice is given
- 7:50back and forth from people
- 7:52who may have done it before you?
- 7:53Depends on the person.
- 7:58Some people are like not
- 8:01super open about it and
- 8:02just want to keep private,
- 8:03which is totally fine.
- 8:05But most of us will pass on
- 8:08advice just with the caveat
- 8:10is like everyone's so different.
- 8:12Like the where you feel
- 8:13fatigue is going to be
- 8:15really different.
- 8:16Like I found the gymnastics
- 8:17one super grippy.
- 8:18Other people were like,
- 8:19I didn't feel my grip at all.
- 8:21It was just my triceps.
- 8:24So you kind of have to take
- 8:24it with a grain of salt,
- 8:25but generally we're,
- 8:27we're happy to share tips and tricks and.
- 8:32I was watching Hiller's
- 8:33video at Mayhem yesterday.
- 8:36And he was talking to Saxon Pancheck,
- 8:41which I found riveting.
- 8:43And I actually have Saxon on on Monday,
- 8:46so we're going to talk
- 8:47about this with him.
- 8:48But he talked about that
- 8:53today's CrossFit athletes
- 8:55don't work out at an
- 8:57affiliate or a gym for the most part.
- 9:02There are some, but not all.
- 9:04And that, like in his opinion,
- 9:07there are 40 spots at semifinals.
- 9:09And if you're working out at
- 9:11a gym with others,
- 9:13you should try to lift
- 9:14everybody up to make it
- 9:16into those 40 spots.
- 9:18As many people as you can.
- 9:20What's your philosophy on that?
- 9:23No, I'm totally with him.
- 9:25I completely agree with that.
- 9:26Because even though they cut the spots,
- 9:29to me...
- 9:30there's room for, for everybody to get in.
- 9:37Like if it was 10 spots,
- 9:38I think it'd be a bit more
- 9:39cutthroat because there's
- 9:40like 10 of us wanting to try to get in.
- 9:43But to me, it's exactly that.
- 9:45Like we should be,
- 9:46we always want to beat each other.
- 9:48Obviously we're competitive,
- 9:51but I think it's good to
- 9:53root for everyone.
- 9:55And it's helpful to bring each other up.
- 9:58Like you're,
- 9:59what's the saying steel sharpens steel.
- 10:02Like that's for sure the case.
- 10:04Yeah.
- 10:05And,
- 10:06and he wasn't saying it in a soft way.
- 10:08He was saying it as like,
- 10:10we as a group should try to
- 10:11take all the spots.
- 10:13Yeah.
- 10:14Right.
- 10:15Take over.
- 10:16Right.
- 10:17Like the heck with everybody else.
- 10:19We're going to take all the spots,
- 10:21but we should lift each
- 10:22other up to get all of them.
- 10:25Yeah, exactly.
- 10:26I thought it was a really cool concept.
- 10:28And I wanted your opinion because you,
- 10:31you do have like a crew of
- 10:33people that kind of are all
- 10:35singing out of the same
- 10:36hymn book or whatever.
- 10:39So, so you make it,
- 10:43you get through all of
- 10:44quarters and then the
- 10:46Wednesday after all hell
- 10:48breaks loose where
- 10:50penalties are being thrown
- 10:52around left and right and
- 10:55What,
- 10:56how did that play on your nerves from
- 11:00that point?
- 11:01So it's kind of funny, like,
- 11:03obviously I I'm always
- 11:05nervous for video review.
- 11:06Like I'm very, um,
- 11:09cautious around those things.
- 11:10I'm the person who like
- 11:11reads the rule book through
- 11:12reads all the standards through,
- 11:14and then I'm still paranoid
- 11:15that something's wrong.
- 11:16Uh,
- 11:17or we forgot to take a video of something,
- 11:20but anyways,
- 11:21this year it kind of worked
- 11:22out nicely for me in a way.
- 11:25Because I think both my one
- 11:27and two got validated on Tuesday.
- 11:31So I got validated.
- 11:33And then all of a sudden I'm
- 11:36hearing about big names
- 11:37getting penalized on workout one.
- 11:40And so like, I thought it was kind of like,
- 11:42oh, at first I was like, oh, drama,
- 11:44like kind of fun.
- 11:45But then it's immediately
- 11:47started getting not fun when it was like,
- 11:49okay, now there's 100, there's 200.
- 11:53like this is serious.
- 11:56And then also I've had a
- 11:57couple of friends impacted by it.
- 12:00And that sucks to see.
- 12:04Yeah.
- 12:04Matt and Greg are the two
- 12:06guys who got penalized.
- 12:08So I was like, okay, well,
- 12:11this completely sucks for them.
- 12:13And it seems like out of
- 12:15control at this point,
- 12:17but then CrossFit's gotten
- 12:18themselves in a place like
- 12:20you can't win now because you can't
- 12:24You can't change things.
- 12:25You can't go back on the
- 12:26standard you put in place
- 12:27because that's not fair to
- 12:28people who did it correctly
- 12:30and probably is slightly
- 12:31slower because of that.
- 12:32Yeah, it's tough.
- 12:40So I've boldly made the
- 12:42statement on a game show
- 12:45that I don't think they
- 12:47should change that aspect.
- 12:50I think they should stay
- 12:50strict and even lean into
- 12:52it more and do more video review,
- 12:55not just one workout, but more.
- 12:58Give themselves more time,
- 13:00back the quarters right up
- 13:01against the open,
- 13:04and then they have more
- 13:04weeks to do it all.
- 13:08But then I heard... Because I've seen,
- 13:13and my basis on that,
- 13:15I've seen a lot of really
- 13:16good athletes not make it
- 13:18because people put in crappy videos.
- 13:23And that shouldn't be there.
- 13:26And that upsets me.
- 13:28So I'm still pro-athlete.
- 13:30I'm just for the ones who did it right.
- 13:34And saying that, like, I love Matt.
- 13:35Like,
- 13:36Matt Brady is one of my favorite
- 13:37people in the world.
- 13:39And I've never seen his video,
- 13:40so I don't even know good, bad,
- 13:42or indifferent.
- 13:44But then I heard Rich,
- 13:47who is probably my CrossFit man crush,
- 13:49say today that you're
- 13:50keeping someone out of
- 13:52semifinals because of step-up capacity.
- 13:57And then I'm like, man,
- 13:58that is really touchy.
- 14:02Yeah, and it's not even like capacity.
- 14:07It's just...
- 14:09that 0.2 seconds you needed
- 14:13to take to completely lock
- 14:15out and like it would get
- 14:16caught in in-person
- 14:19competition like yeah it's
- 14:23tough and yeah I haven't
- 14:24seen everybody's videos
- 14:25either I don't know so
- 14:28right it's tough to say but
- 14:29like off of like pat
- 14:30velner's video for instance
- 14:31like I don't think it would
- 14:32have taken him any more
- 14:33time to lock out his knee
- 14:35on his left side it just he
- 14:36didn't realize it was happening
- 14:39And his judge didn't say anything.
- 14:41So it's tough.
- 14:43And I think they really were
- 14:45quite harsh on the penalties.
- 14:48And I do applaud Pat for
- 14:49putting it out there
- 14:50because he didn't have to.
- 14:51Yeah,
- 14:54that's like a super vulnerable position.
- 14:56Right.
- 14:57And, and as a former judge, like he did,
- 15:00he did have soft knees there.
- 15:02There is no question about that.
- 15:03I think what they could
- 15:04clean up is a arbitrary
- 15:08percentage shift from,
- 15:09it can be anywhere from 15 to 40.
- 15:12Like that just seems way too
- 15:14arbitrary and up to decisions.
- 15:18Um, and I, especially on, um,
- 15:24especially on workouts that
- 15:25are like reps that just
- 15:28like trashed people.
- 15:30Like,
- 15:30I think it should have been just
- 15:32however many reps were bad,
- 15:34take those away.
- 15:35Don't say like there was a
- 15:36significant amount,
- 15:37which they don't even have
- 15:39defined in the rule book.
- 15:41And then you'd give them a 40% or 15%.
- 15:44Like that's pretty harsh.
- 15:47A 15% penalty on like a
- 15:48timed workout is a bit
- 15:51different of the case, but.
- 15:54Well,
- 15:54and I think the other factor is we
- 15:55have 25% of the population now doing this,
- 15:59and the penalties made you
- 16:01fall into that wash with
- 16:03all of those athletes.
- 16:05So it became even a more
- 16:06significant penalty than it
- 16:08had in years past.
- 16:10Yeah.
- 16:12So I think some of that
- 16:13could be cleaned up,
- 16:14but I do think they should
- 16:16be strict with the review
- 16:17process as long as they
- 16:19don't allow the judge to stop, pause,
- 16:22blow up,
- 16:25The review.
- 16:26Put lines like, yeah, that's a bit,
- 16:30a bit too much.
- 16:31Like treat it more like a live.
- 16:33Correct.
- 16:34Competition.
- 16:36Cause like Pat Pounder's video live,
- 16:38I would have said was a no rep.
- 16:41Yeah.
- 16:42Right.
- 16:43But in live,
- 16:44I would have told him and he
- 16:45would have stopped.
- 16:47He would have corrected it
- 16:48and done like just as well.
- 16:50Exactly.
- 16:52So it's tough.
- 16:53I agree they should be be strict on it.
- 16:55And I mean,
- 16:56even thinking about it for myself,
- 16:57I'm like, OK,
- 16:58now I'm going to take like
- 16:59two camera angles next year
- 17:01if it's going to be like this.
- 17:03And I agree they should look
- 17:04at all the workouts because.
- 17:06I mean, they validated my workout three,
- 17:09but I don't think they really.
- 17:12looked at it.
- 17:13So well,
- 17:14I've actually I've actually talked
- 17:15to athletes that had
- 17:17workouts never validated.
- 17:20Yeah, my workout for wasn't.
- 17:21Yeah.
- 17:23So I think those they didn't
- 17:24look at at all.
- 17:26No,
- 17:27which a rapper to on that last workout
- 17:30could have been huge places.
- 17:33So it's tough that they they
- 17:36are so harsh on one,
- 17:37but not the other because
- 17:38it would have shuffled
- 17:39things completely again.
- 17:43Well, cool.
- 17:44Well, now that that's all over,
- 17:46I want to talk about some more fun stuff.
- 17:49So can you explain to me the
- 17:51title Trailer Park Girls?
- 17:54Oh, yes.
- 17:56Yeah,
- 17:57that was our Wadapalooza name for our
- 18:00team of three.
- 18:01So Trailer Park Boys,
- 18:03do you know that show?
- 18:06It's a Canadian show.
- 18:09Trailer Park Boys is a Canadian show.
- 18:11It's a comedy, like pretty dry humor.
- 18:15But classic Canada,
- 18:16like I think it was
- 18:17originally set in the East Coast,
- 18:21but then it became really
- 18:21big in Alberta because a lot of people,
- 18:25it resonated with them.
- 18:26But so that was part of it.
- 18:29Like, okay, we're Canadian.
- 18:30And then my friend Kendra, Kendra Dutton,
- 18:36she was on the team.
- 18:37She like famously has
- 18:39trailer park cleans because
- 18:42she's not the strongest squatter.
- 18:44So she often just like
- 18:47starfishes her cleans.
- 18:50So that was kind of part of it as well.
- 18:52And just keeping it light and fun.
- 18:54Like that was the whole
- 18:56point of going to that competition.
- 18:59Yeah.
- 19:01It's pretty funny.
- 19:02You should check out a couple of clips.
- 19:04Okay.
- 19:08I'm trying to think of something.
- 19:09Okay.
- 19:09But so you go to Wadapalooza,
- 19:12you have a cool name
- 19:13because that's half of Wadapalooza.
- 19:15You have to,
- 19:16you can't just go with like
- 19:18your typical CrossFit name.
- 19:20It has to be something cool
- 19:22for the glitz and glam of Wadapalooza.
- 19:25Exactly.
- 19:27Was that your first time there?
- 19:28Yep.
- 19:31Yeah, first time there.
- 19:32First time even in Florida, actually.
- 19:34But yeah, I did the Wadapalooza qualifier.
- 19:37I think the past two years in individual,
- 19:40it didn't work out.
- 19:43And then the timing of it, it just,
- 19:45the individual didn't make
- 19:46sense this year.
- 19:48But we were talking, the three of us,
- 19:50and decided why not take a chance?
- 19:53Like,
- 19:53originally we were going for the RX
- 19:55division.
- 19:57And then...
- 19:59we made a push and got into elite.
- 20:01So that was a pretty cool
- 20:02experience to get there.
- 20:04It was my goal to in the off season,
- 20:06do at least one large
- 20:09competition just to get
- 20:10more exposure to those
- 20:12types of environments
- 20:13because I was so like
- 20:14overstimulated at semifinals last year.
- 20:17So I'm glad we did that.
- 20:19But it was also like a lower
- 20:20pressure competition being
- 20:22a team and just going to have fun.
- 20:26But if you want to be overstimulated,
- 20:28that is the place to be.
- 20:30Yes.
- 20:31I did not realize how large it was.
- 20:34It is a massive party.
- 20:37Say that again.
- 20:38Sorry.
- 20:38It's a massive party.
- 20:40Yeah.
- 20:41Yeah.
- 20:41It was, it was super fun.
- 20:43And like having that stage on the barge,
- 20:47like that was so epic.
- 20:49So cool.
- 20:52So on a serious note,
- 20:54like what did you learn
- 20:56during that weekend?
- 20:57Oh,
- 20:59Good question.
- 21:00I mean,
- 21:02competing in a team is pretty cool.
- 21:04Cause you get to learn how
- 21:06other athletes compete.
- 21:09Um, and both those girls like Lindsay,
- 21:12maybe you'll have her on the show,
- 21:14Lindsay Martin.
- 21:15Um, but they're, they're so cool.
- 21:20They're such cool ladies, like,
- 21:21and they're so fierce.
- 21:24They're very fierce competitors.
- 21:25And I'm a bit more of an anxious.
- 21:27competitor so it was really
- 21:29good to to feed off um
- 21:32their vibes like yeah so
- 21:35that was cool and you kind
- 21:36of always get exposed to
- 21:38like okay where are people
- 21:39where are they wanting to
- 21:40rest and when I'm not and
- 21:42where am I wanting to rest
- 21:43when they're not and you
- 21:44can kind of take that and
- 21:46say and bring that into
- 21:48your training and
- 21:48approaches to other events
- 21:51that you do and then
- 21:54I mean,
- 21:54the weather that weekend was also
- 21:58not the best.
- 21:59So it was good exposure to
- 22:01having things shifted around.
- 22:03Like times got shifted.
- 22:05I think they changed like
- 22:06two or three events on us as well.
- 22:09So just rolling with the
- 22:11punches was another big learning as well.
- 22:14And kind of just being
- 22:15prepared for whatever is thrown at you.
- 22:17Yeah,
- 22:19rumor is that they changed events
- 22:21while you were in the corral.
- 22:23correct yeah the last
- 22:26workout was pretty bad like
- 22:28they did change the second
- 22:30workout that we did on the
- 22:31barge um where we were
- 22:34doing lunges I think
- 22:35instead of the step overs
- 22:39and they told us that in
- 22:40the tent um it started
- 22:42raining like as soon as we
- 22:43went out and they were like
- 22:44okay you got to go back
- 22:46Okay, now we're changing it,
- 22:49but it wasn't changed to
- 22:51like the reps were the same.
- 22:52So it was pretty easy to
- 22:54like process that.
- 22:55But the final event was a
- 22:57total like crap show.
- 22:59It was really bad because it was raining.
- 23:03We had a weather delay.
- 23:04So they said our heat was pushed.
- 23:07And then they said, just kidding.
- 23:09Your heat's going to be at
- 23:10the same time again.
- 23:11But at that point,
- 23:12we had literally five minutes to warm up.
- 23:17Those are the things I heard.
- 23:20I'm not there in like four years.
- 23:23Yeah.
- 23:23Thank goodness.
- 23:25Yeah.
- 23:26That was crazy.
- 23:27And they changed like all the reps on us.
- 23:29So we didn't know what was going on.
- 23:30I swear our judge didn't
- 23:31even know the rep scheme.
- 23:33Cause if you look at the video, I like,
- 23:35I'm doing strict pull-ups and I'm like,
- 23:37okay, I'm done.
- 23:38And I run.
- 23:38And then he's like, no, you have more.
- 23:41And I go back and I do like two.
- 23:43And again, I think I'm done.
- 23:45And he goes, no.
- 23:47So who knows?
- 23:48We're not sure if we did it right.
- 23:51It was fun though.
- 23:53Yeah,
- 23:53I know famously one male team said
- 23:55they did like 900 double
- 23:57unders because the reps were so off.
- 24:01Yeah.
- 24:03Yeah.
- 24:04Yeah.
- 24:05Crazy.
- 24:07Oh, well.
- 24:08So you have that experience, though,
- 24:12because I think last year
- 24:13when I talked to you,
- 24:14semis was your first big, like big comp.
- 24:18Mm-hmm.
- 24:19So how did last year go at semis?
- 24:21You say you were overstimulated.
- 24:23What did you learn from that experience?
- 24:27Yeah.
- 24:28Last year was not fun for me.
- 24:30I did not have fun.
- 24:31I think it was very weird though.
- 24:35Every time I saw you, you were smiling.
- 24:38Yeah.
- 24:38I think I was trying to, like, I was,
- 24:40I was trying to really like
- 24:42take in the moment and I
- 24:43shouldn't say I had no fun.
- 24:45Like we had such a big group
- 24:46there that that was so amazing.
- 24:48And,
- 24:49Like the first event,
- 24:51I was trying to really take it all in.
- 24:53Like I was on the treadmill
- 24:54and my whole family was in front of me.
- 24:56So that's really cool.
- 24:59I'm definitely going to like
- 25:00take that with me,
- 25:01like soak in every single moment.
- 25:03But I also, I don't know,
- 25:05I like put way too much
- 25:07pressure on myself last year.
- 25:08I think like in my head, I was like,
- 25:10this is my time that I can
- 25:12like get exposed and like
- 25:16potentially get sponsors
- 25:17and stuff like that.
- 25:19And I must perform because unfortunately,
- 25:22like, that's the case, like,
- 25:24the people who get the top
- 25:25times get the most attention.
- 25:28So I think there was that.
- 25:31And yeah,
- 25:34then then events just like didn't
- 25:35go how I wanted to and kind
- 25:37of started just like snowballing.
- 25:39You know, I was in a bad mindset.
- 25:42So
- 25:44But really, it doesn't matter.
- 25:45The outcome doesn't matter at all.
- 25:48Nobody.
- 25:49I talked to a lot of people that weekend.
- 25:53We interviewed two people from every heat,
- 25:56I think, the whole weekend.
- 25:58You're not the only person
- 25:59that felt that way.
- 26:02Events weren't going right.
- 26:03Events weren't going the way you planned.
- 26:07The way those events were set up,
- 26:09they had traps in them.
- 26:12And I don't think anybody
- 26:13knew that pulling weights
- 26:14on a napkin was going to be that hard.
- 26:18Yes.
- 26:19On a felt mat.
- 26:22Yeah.
- 26:23Um, and it, and from that moment on,
- 26:26everybody just, some people,
- 26:29some people dealt with it
- 26:30in a good way and just kind
- 26:32of let it go off their
- 26:33shoulders and other people
- 26:35like clung onto that and like,
- 26:37this is bad.
- 26:38And then it just kept getting worse.
- 26:41Mm-hmm.
- 26:42So were you one of the latter?
- 26:44Yeah, I'd probably say so,
- 26:49which like sucks to admit,
- 26:51but I do find it hard to
- 26:54let things go sometimes and
- 26:56then not let it flow into
- 26:59the next event is really tough.
- 27:02Like you try, you try your best to reset,
- 27:05but it can be really hard
- 27:06sometimes to pull yourself
- 27:08out of that like darker headspace.
- 27:10Yeah.
- 27:11Once you're in it.
- 27:12So I've had to practice that a lot.
- 27:15I'm not always successful still,
- 27:19but we're getting there.
- 27:23And like I said, you weren't the only one.
- 27:25Last year was very bizarre
- 27:27with the way the workouts
- 27:28were designed because there
- 27:30were so many new movements,
- 27:32so many new things kind of
- 27:34being thrown at you.
- 27:35This year, the workouts are already out,
- 27:38and it's very classic CrossFit.
- 27:42Nothing new.
- 27:44Does that give you some
- 27:45peace of mind going in this year?
- 27:50Good question.
- 27:52In a way.
- 27:52I do actually like kind of
- 27:55the weird stuff to an extent.
- 27:59To an extent,
- 27:59because I'm kind of just like
- 28:01that naturally able to pick
- 28:02things up quite quickly.
- 28:04So that always gives me an advantage,
- 28:06but it makes me nervous
- 28:08performing under pressure on the floor.
- 28:10So in a way, yes,
- 28:12it makes me a bit more comfortable.
- 28:14And I mean,
- 28:15we have so much time to be
- 28:16practicing all the workouts that you,
- 28:19you know,
- 28:19exactly like what your game plan
- 28:21should be.
- 28:22Roughly.
- 28:26So here's a weird question
- 28:27because I've heard a lot of
- 28:28people talk about this.
- 28:30I do a coach's show with Tristan Patrick.
- 28:34He's the head coach at Ascend Athlete.
- 28:37And he talked about
- 28:39sometimes you don't want
- 28:41your athlete to know what
- 28:42it's going to feel like
- 28:44because it's not going to feel good.
- 28:46And to get to that place,
- 28:47you've got to go to that bad place.
- 28:49So it's sometimes bad to
- 28:51know ahead of time because
- 28:53are they willing to go back?
- 28:55Yeah.
- 28:57Yeah,
- 28:57it is kind of funny like how there is
- 28:59that there's both sides to the coin,
- 29:01right?
- 29:02Like usually if you repeat a workout,
- 29:05you're going to do better
- 29:07because you learned where
- 29:09you should and shouldn't be pushing.
- 29:11But it's exactly that as well.
- 29:13Like once you know how something feels,
- 29:15I think it's just natural
- 29:17like human nature.
- 29:19Our brain knows and it's like danger,
- 29:21right?
- 29:22don't do that again.
- 29:23And so there is some resistance as well.
- 29:27Um, yeah, there's both sides.
- 29:29I find for myself,
- 29:31like when I'm testing workouts,
- 29:35I don't go 100%.
- 29:36And then you also have to realize too,
- 29:41that when you get to competition,
- 29:43you're going to be peaked.
- 29:44Like you're not going to be,
- 29:46you're going to be feeling good.
- 29:48And then there's all the adrenaline.
- 29:50So you have to kind of let
- 29:51go of how it was feeling in
- 29:53training as well.
- 29:56Cause it's going to feel better.
- 29:57It's kind of like your
- 29:58warmup versus the actual workout.
- 30:00Like the warmup always feels
- 30:01crappier than the actual workout,
- 30:05but I agree to an extent,
- 30:08but it is important to test it.
- 30:10At least if you're even just
- 30:11gonna do part of it,
- 30:13just little snippets of the workout.
- 30:18So,
- 30:19and I'm sorry I'm quoting all these
- 30:20other people but it helps
- 30:22me get to where I want to go.
- 30:24Carolyn Prevost is my co
- 30:25host on my Sunday night show.
- 30:27She said I think she's doing
- 30:28a mock up weekend this weekend.
- 30:31And then she said,
- 30:32I'm not doing them again until semis.
- 30:35Now I may do,
- 30:36I may incorporate the
- 30:37movements with some other
- 30:39stuff that is similar,
- 30:41but I'm not going to do the
- 30:42identical thing again after this weekend.
- 30:46How do you,
- 30:46how are you guys going to
- 30:48approach that just a one
- 30:49time or are you going to
- 30:51hit them a couple of times
- 30:51between now and then?
- 30:55For myself,
- 30:57I don't think we'll do it more than once.
- 30:59Like we're testing them this week.
- 31:01I did one and two yesterday.
- 31:02I'm doing three, four today.
- 31:04Um, so for me, I just need to hit it once.
- 31:09Um,
- 31:10maybe that last workout we could do the
- 31:14first, like,
- 31:15I don't think the lunges are
- 31:16necessary to do twice,
- 31:17but maybe trying to like
- 31:19echo bike into the 15 ring
- 31:21muscle ups in different
- 31:22sets would be valuable for me.
- 31:24Um,
- 31:27But otherwise,
- 31:28I honestly think hitting it two,
- 31:30three times,
- 31:31like that's where you get
- 31:32exhausted and like, okay,
- 31:34you're not even excited to
- 31:35do it again once you're at semifinals.
- 31:38So, yeah.
- 31:40Yeah,
- 31:41that was another thing Tristan warned
- 31:44about is you don't want
- 31:45them to like hate the
- 31:47workout and be just blah
- 31:49going into semis.
- 31:53No, exactly.
- 31:53And that's why I was slightly,
- 31:56I'm not going to say like upset,
- 31:58but kind of the bad part
- 32:00about them releasing the
- 32:01workout so early is like, okay, well,
- 32:04these are just,
- 32:04these are all the movements
- 32:06that we're going to be
- 32:06doing in training now,
- 32:07like just over and over.
- 32:09So you do get a little bit
- 32:11bored of the combination, but it's,
- 32:16it's somewhat necessary to do.
- 32:18So to go back to your other question,
- 32:19like now we're going to
- 32:21test it once and then we're
- 32:23going to have the
- 32:24combination of movements,
- 32:25but not necessarily the actual workout.
- 32:27So like,
- 32:28we're going to do a lot of total
- 32:29bar into front squats for event too.
- 32:32Well,
- 32:32and thank goodness you're not the
- 32:33last week.
- 32:34Like Carol is like, yeah,
- 32:39that's a slog for her.
- 32:41Yeah.
- 32:42Yeah.
- 32:42For like Europe and Asia, like they,
- 32:45they're going to be done in a week.
- 32:47Yeah.
- 32:47And that won't be so bad.
- 32:49And then it just gets
- 32:50increasingly worse as you go across.
- 32:51But wow.
- 32:55So you've seen the workouts.
- 32:59Are you excited?
- 33:02Yeah.
- 33:03Yeah.
- 33:04Number one's a bit rough, I would say.
- 33:07But I'm kind of glad it's
- 33:08number one and then you get
- 33:09out of the way.
- 33:10The rest I really like.
- 33:12And that's the 800s and the
- 33:15clean and jerks, right?
- 33:16Yeah.
- 33:18Yeah, it's just hard.
- 33:19It's going to be hard for everyone.
- 33:22And, you know, you have to stay engaged.
- 33:24It's kind of like that,
- 33:25that burpee wall ball one.
- 33:28It's kind of one of those ones where it's,
- 33:33you got to treat it like a sprint,
- 33:35even though it's not a sprint.
- 33:37Yeah.
- 33:38You just have to be
- 33:38extremely uncomfortable the whole time.
- 33:41That's how you know you're doing it right.
- 33:43that's the one I thought of
- 33:43when I thought you don't
- 33:45want to go to that dark
- 33:46place and practice and then
- 33:48have to revisit that at,
- 33:51at the real thing.
- 33:53But that's what's going to happen.
- 33:56Yeah.
- 33:57Yeah.
- 33:57We're all going to be
- 33:58suffering pretty hard after that one.
- 34:00Yeah.
- 34:02Um,
- 34:06You come in in a higher place.
- 34:07You're in 27th,
- 34:09so you won't be in the first heat,
- 34:12which you weren't last year,
- 34:13but it was a much bigger field.
- 34:16Is there a goal this year to
- 34:18end the weekend in a certain heat,
- 34:22certain position,
- 34:23or are you going for the games?
- 34:28I don't have a placement goal, honestly.
- 34:30I think it's better for me not to.
- 34:34Like I still want to go out
- 34:35and I want to do my best
- 34:37and put my best effort in
- 34:39and feel proud of myself for pushing.
- 34:42But I don't,
- 34:44what I've learned is I don't
- 34:45have control of what other
- 34:47people are doing.
- 34:48I don't have control of
- 34:49where I end up placing wise.
- 34:52So, and I don't want to sell myself short.
- 34:55Like I honestly think like,
- 34:58essentially anyone could get
- 35:00that like last spot or two to the games.
- 35:03If you're having like an amazing weekend,
- 35:06you're feeling good.
- 35:07The events line up like the
- 35:09top 40 are not actually
- 35:11that different in level
- 35:16other than maybe like the top, you know,
- 35:18five,
- 35:20like our fitness levels pretty similar.
- 35:22Yeah.
- 35:24The West is very, very top heavy.
- 35:28Like you have the top four or five,
- 35:31and then I think everybody
- 35:32else is kind of bunched in there.
- 35:35So if you would get like nine or ten,
- 35:38it's kind of anybody's game
- 35:39for those last four or five spots.
- 35:43Yeah, like it's up for grabs.
- 35:44So we'll see what happens.
- 35:47Which makes for a very
- 35:49interesting competition.
- 35:52Yeah, it'll be fun.
- 35:54It'll be a good one.
- 35:56is there anybody that you
- 35:57line up against that like
- 35:59intimidates you because you're a fan or,
- 36:02or anything like that?
- 36:05If you would be in the same
- 36:06heat as that person?
- 36:09That's a good question.
- 36:12I wouldn't say like intimidated,
- 36:17like obviously like Gazan, for instance,
- 36:21is just like an extremely
- 36:22talented athlete.
- 36:24Like,
- 36:25She's a rock star.
- 36:26Like,
- 36:26I can't beat her on legless rope climbs,
- 36:28like, realistically, you know?
- 36:31So something like that.
- 36:32But at the same time,
- 36:34it's not like her being
- 36:35good takes away from my fitness.
- 36:37Like, I can still go out and do my best.
- 36:41I love the attitude.
- 36:42I don't have to compare
- 36:43myself to her necessarily, you know?
- 36:47I was talking to somebody
- 36:48last year who had grown up
- 36:51following Katrin.
- 36:53She was her favorite.
- 36:54And I think in the first event,
- 36:56by the way they fell,
- 36:58she was going to be right
- 36:59beside her in the first event.
- 37:01And she was worried about
- 37:03how that was going to affect her.
- 37:07And she was young, like 1920.
- 37:13So I can't remember who it was now, but...
- 37:17um but yeah yeah I mean
- 37:19that's fair because I i do
- 37:21I remember last year I
- 37:23think I was like beside
- 37:24chloe wilson on the first
- 37:25one and I'm a fan of her um
- 37:26even though she's not
- 37:28competing this year sad but
- 37:31in my head I was like I
- 37:32think I could have kept up
- 37:34with her on that workout
- 37:35but I think subconsciously
- 37:36or maybe consciously
- 37:38I was thinking like, well,
- 37:40she should be able to beat
- 37:41me on this workout.
- 37:42Like she's Chloe Wilson.
- 37:43So you do have to be mindful of that.
- 37:45Again,
- 37:45like don't sell yourself short just
- 37:47because they're good at something.
- 37:50Do you work full time?
- 37:54Not anymore.
- 37:55So I was last year.
- 37:56I quit my job in October,
- 38:00my full time job.
- 38:03So I was completely
- 38:05unemployed for about a
- 38:06month and I quickly
- 38:07realized that's not for me.
- 38:10I get, I need something to, um,
- 38:13outside of CrossFit just to
- 38:17have something else in my identity,
- 38:18like something else to
- 38:19focus on because I found
- 38:22I was just hyper focusing in
- 38:23on training or how my body
- 38:25was feeling like injuries.
- 38:27And I was just becoming a
- 38:28bit too like obsessive
- 38:29about those things.
- 38:30Um, to like an unhelpful extent,
- 38:33like there's nothing you can do.
- 38:36So I, uh, now I have, um,
- 38:39I'm doing consulting,
- 38:40so I have a background in
- 38:43quality assurance and food manufacturing.
- 38:46So I got in touch with well,
- 38:49I have a friend who also
- 38:50does it and she got me in
- 38:52touch with the company she contracts for.
- 38:54And so now I'm doing some
- 38:55work with them where
- 38:58essentially you can pick
- 39:00what what times and days you want to work,
- 39:02how much you want to work.
- 39:04So that's been really nice
- 39:05and healthy and also a
- 39:07steep learning curve there,
- 39:09which keeps me mentally stimulated.
- 39:12So it's I'm in a good place now.
- 39:14I'm very balanced.
- 39:17Is that the job you had before you quit?
- 39:20You were doing quality
- 39:21assurance with food?
- 39:22Well, technically it was operations,
- 39:24but quality assurance would
- 39:25still fall under that.
- 39:26But yeah, that's what I was doing before.
- 39:30For a major restaurant, company,
- 39:32supermarket?
- 39:33No, it was for Righteous Gelato,
- 39:36their frozen desserts
- 39:38manufacturer in Canada, mostly,
- 39:42but also the US.
- 39:43Okay.
- 39:44I think I've heard of them.
- 39:46Yeah, I probably mentioned it last year,
- 39:48and I'm wondering if they'd
- 39:50be in Ohio now probably.
- 39:52Yeah,
- 39:54I don't – we didn't talk about your
- 39:56job last year.
- 39:57I just listened to it back.
- 39:59Oh, yeah?
- 40:00Yeah, so I didn't know what you did.
- 40:01Oh, it's okay.
- 40:04Yeah, yeah.
- 40:05I'm learning new stuff this year.
- 40:07Mm-hmm.
- 40:10So we did talk last year
- 40:12about the autoimmune issues
- 40:15that you have dealt with.
- 40:17Still under control?
- 40:20Yeah, now they are.
- 40:21So because...
- 40:25I'm trying to think of the
- 40:26timeline because around
- 40:28quarterfinals last year,
- 40:29my arthritis was flaring up a little bit.
- 40:33I got it kind of under control for semis.
- 40:36And then in the summer,
- 40:38it flared up again.
- 40:39And I was trying to cut back
- 40:42on the medications I was taking,
- 40:45like essentially naproxen, like Aleve.
- 40:49But I quickly realized that
- 40:51that's probably something I
- 40:52just need to be taking on a
- 40:54regular basis to keep it under control.
- 40:57So that's what I've been
- 40:58doing and it's helped a lot
- 41:02in the past six months now,
- 41:05probably I've been in a
- 41:06really good place with that.
- 41:07Okay.
- 41:09If you weren't being a
- 41:12professional athlete-ish,
- 41:15would you need the medications as much,
- 41:17or is it what you do to
- 41:18your body that makes it
- 41:19kind of more of a requirement?
- 41:23I think I'd probably still
- 41:24need it here and there.
- 41:25Like,
- 41:27I would get flare-ups once in a while,
- 41:29or if I decided, like,
- 41:31when we originally got our
- 41:32house and we were doing a
- 41:33lot of painting and crouching and stuff,
- 41:35that aggravated it.
- 41:37So I'd probably still need to, like...
- 41:39take it here and there,
- 41:41but not on a regular basis
- 41:42is more my thought,
- 41:44but we'll see once I'm done
- 41:47competing whenever that is.
- 41:48And if I can scale back on that side,
- 41:51we'll have to see where my body's at.
- 41:55Yeah.
- 41:56For, for you Canadians,
- 41:57you seem to go forever.
- 41:58So, um,
- 42:02We'll see.
- 42:03I think physically I could
- 42:05go for many more years, obviously.
- 42:08We'll see, though.
- 42:10Mentally.
- 42:11Mentally,
- 42:11if I can handle it and if... Yeah.
- 42:15Like Corey says,
- 42:17if I could ever find my mask.
- 42:19There we go.
- 42:20Is anyone ever done competing?
- 42:25Yeah, it's tough.
- 42:26It's tough to make that
- 42:27transition or maybe you
- 42:28think you're done and then realize...
- 42:31you're not quite like,
- 42:33maybe you still want to
- 42:33compete at to an extent at
- 42:35a certain level,
- 42:36but maybe it's not the main
- 42:39focus of your life.
- 42:41So you just have to decide
- 42:42where your priorities are really.
- 42:44I think in Corey's life,
- 42:46he competes at everything.
- 42:48So like, yeah,
- 42:49he may not compete in CrossFit anymore,
- 42:51but,
- 42:55Right.
- 42:58He is doing his first ever
- 42:59semifinal this year as a 47-year-old.
- 43:03Wow.
- 43:03Congrats.
- 43:06Yeah.
- 43:08The Civic Student says, hashtag Team Amy.
- 43:11Nice.
- 43:12Civic State Amy.
- 43:14So, um,
- 43:16last thing I'm going to leave you
- 43:17with is I was talking to Gabby Spence, uh,
- 43:20last week and we were
- 43:22talking about the battle at
- 43:23the barracks and lo and behold,
- 43:25when you look at the podium,
- 43:27there you were.
- 43:31Yep.
- 43:33Explain to me how big of a
- 43:34competition that is, uh,
- 43:37in your neck of the woods in Canada.
- 43:38Yeah.
- 43:41It's funny.
- 43:41Cause I mean like the actual
- 43:42location is obviously it's a CrossFit gym,
- 43:45like it's a box.
- 43:46So physically speaking,
- 43:49it's quite small and
- 43:51compact in the competition.
- 43:53However, it's extremely competitive.
- 43:56Like I think they made a
- 43:57post and the four of us,
- 44:00like the top four of us are
- 44:02all going to semifinals.
- 44:03And the fifth place was
- 44:04Megan Sears who went to semis last year.
- 44:08So.
- 44:09it's an extremely talented
- 44:10pool of ladies that all
- 44:12come and compete there.
- 44:14Like, yeah, I would compare it to, I mean,
- 44:18even some years at Canwest,
- 44:20like probably had the same
- 44:21amount of talent.
- 44:23So yeah,
- 44:24it's always a good battle in the
- 44:27barracks.
- 44:28Yeah.
- 44:29Gabby shared that it was the
- 44:30place where she first felt
- 44:34like she figured out how to
- 44:36have fun at a competition.
- 44:38Hmm.
- 44:39Um,
- 44:39because of the people she got to
- 44:41compete with.
- 44:43Yeah.
- 44:44Yeah.
- 44:45We do always good to have
- 44:47good chats and I mean,
- 44:49it's tight quarters in there.
- 44:50So you're, um,
- 44:51you get to know one another
- 44:53and they do make it a
- 44:54really cool environment.
- 44:55Like they always bring out
- 44:56the lights and like the
- 44:57steam machine for the big lifts.
- 45:00Um, so it's a, yeah,
- 45:02I would say it's quite
- 45:02bonding of an experience.
- 45:06Kyle says barracks is very
- 45:08overstimulating good
- 45:09practice yeah it is yeah
- 45:13when you have to like max
- 45:14out your jerk when there's
- 45:16like lights shining right
- 45:17in your eyes it's good it's
- 45:20good practice Josie says
- 45:23love you Ames thank you and
- 45:28she and also best of the
- 45:29best thanks Jocelyn
- 45:35So we already talked about your goals.
- 45:40We already talked about all
- 45:42the stuff you've done to kind of prepare.
- 45:45Compared to last year,
- 45:47how are you positioned
- 45:48yourself going into semis
- 45:51compared to last year?
- 45:56Good question.
- 46:01I definitely feel fitter than last year.
- 46:04We've done...
- 46:05a ton of work on just like endurance side,
- 46:10um,
- 46:10mental side to keep pushing during the
- 46:13endurance.
- 46:13I haven't ran as much as I
- 46:15would have liked,
- 46:16but we're getting in some
- 46:17running leading up to comp.
- 46:21Um, and then on the skill side,
- 46:24like the positioning,
- 46:26we've done a ton of toes to bar.
- 46:28I don't know if you remember,
- 46:30but I blew up quite hard on the last,
- 46:32last year's toe to bar event.
- 46:34Um,
- 46:36Yeah,
- 46:36so just feeling a lot more
- 46:38comfortable with those
- 46:39movements and gaining confidence.
- 46:41So I would say I'm a lot more confident.
- 46:45I'm in a lot better head
- 46:46space going into semifinals.
- 46:48Like not every day is perfect.
- 46:49I'm not going to say that.
- 46:53But I feel like I'm ready to
- 46:55go in and actually enjoy the experience.
- 46:58Like so cool we're in the
- 46:59tennis stadium in Carson
- 47:02and not take it for granted.
- 47:04Like,
- 47:04who knows what's going to happen next
- 47:06year?
- 47:06Are you a student of the
- 47:09history of CrossFit to know
- 47:11how iconic that is?
- 47:14Carson?
- 47:14Yeah.
- 47:17I mean, obviously I know the games.
- 47:20were held there for,
- 47:21I don't know how many years, four, five.
- 47:24Yeah.
- 47:24That's what I meant.
- 47:27Yes.
- 47:29Yeah.
- 47:29I honestly, well,
- 47:30I was trying to find them.
- 47:31I think there are,
- 47:32I have to rent them on Apple.
- 47:35There's like the past two
- 47:36years are available,
- 47:37but then past that I have to rent,
- 47:38but it's very tempting just
- 47:40to get myself hyped up.
- 47:42Like, Whoa,
- 47:42we're going to be competing
- 47:44where the games were.
- 47:46It's pretty cool.
- 47:47I started CrossFit in 2011.
- 47:49I purchased them all as they came out.
- 47:51So I own all of them.
- 47:56That's awesome.
- 47:58I know.
- 47:58Cause I love going back and
- 48:00rewatching them.
- 48:01Yeah.
- 48:02And the tennis stadium is so
- 48:03iconic and so many big
- 48:05events happen there.
- 48:07I hope I want to be there so bad.
- 48:11I just don't know if it's
- 48:12going to happen this year.
- 48:14Why wait?
- 48:15Why?
- 48:18Well,
- 48:18I just found out on Monday that I was
- 48:20approved for credentials.
- 48:23And now the price of airline
- 48:25tickets across country for me is insane.
- 48:31Not to mention
- 48:32accommodations in California
- 48:34is not cheap.
- 48:36No, everything.
- 48:38It adds up, right?
- 48:40Yeah.
- 48:40But I hope you come.
- 48:42I feel like you should do
- 48:43GoFundMe or something.
- 48:47or a t-shirt.
- 48:48It's been a weird season for,
- 48:50for us this year as a company,
- 48:53I had some health problems
- 48:53at the beginning of the
- 48:54year and wasn't sure I was
- 48:55going to be able to do much of anything.
- 48:57Um,
- 48:58and now I'm kind of fully recovered
- 49:00trying to get back into the
- 49:01swing and just,
- 49:03I'm just trying to tell
- 49:04myself it's only one season.
- 49:06You just do what you can.
- 49:07Um,
- 49:09But either way,
- 49:10we're going to be reaching
- 49:11out to people as we do our
- 49:13coverage from the weekend.
- 49:15So you may get a DM from me
- 49:18just to kind of see what
- 49:19it's like and have you on
- 49:21to talk about your events
- 49:23during the weekend if you'd
- 49:24be cool with that.
- 49:26Oh, yeah.
- 49:26I'd be happy to pop on and chat.
- 49:30Yeah.
- 49:31William Clark actually asks a question.
- 49:33He's my husband.
- 49:36How do you feel about the
- 49:37first two workouts?
- 49:40He knows I tested them yesterday.
- 49:42They're tough.
- 49:46My legs are very sore.
- 49:47Is he in the house with you
- 49:52now or is he at work or something?
- 49:54No, he's on a job.
- 49:56He goes into the field a lot,
- 49:58so he's up in Hinton, Alberta.
- 50:00It's like six hours away today,
- 50:02but happy to see he has time to tune in.
- 50:08I, I, so we have,
- 50:10and I told you this last year,
- 50:11we have a lot of Canadian
- 50:11listeners and I was trying
- 50:13to do Canadian geography
- 50:15last week and British
- 50:19Columbia and Alberta are
- 50:23side by side on the West.
- 50:25And the people in the chat
- 50:27were saying that's the best
- 50:30and forget about the rest.
- 50:32Is that how you people in
- 50:32the West really feel?
- 50:35I mean, so my husband's from Ontario.
- 50:38I went to Ontario for school.
- 50:41So that's more of the Eastern side,
- 50:43like around the lakes.
- 50:45I've actually been there.
- 50:46Okay.
- 50:48I mean, and my brother lives in Toronto,
- 50:50so I can't like, and we have, um,
- 50:52my husband's family's in
- 50:53Ottawa and also like
- 50:55greater Toronto area.
- 50:56So I can't totally bash it, but, uh,
- 50:58we'd never moved to Ontario.
- 51:02We'd never moved back there.
- 51:05Yeah, for our lifestyle, at least.
- 51:07Like, we have the mountains and, like,
- 51:12B.C.
- 51:12If you want to go to B.C., it's so close.
- 51:14Like,
- 51:15Vancouver Island's amazing on the ocean.
- 51:19So I will say there's still perks.
- 51:22Like, obviously,
- 51:22Ontario has amazing lakes
- 51:25and stuff like that.
- 51:26And I have a lot of friends there,
- 51:27but Ontario is awesome.
- 51:30Yeah.
- 51:33There's just too many people in Ontario,
- 51:36specifically Toronto area.
- 51:39I don't know if I've ever been in,
- 51:40I've been to Toronto a bunch of times.
- 51:43I don't think the weather
- 51:43was ever nice one time I was there.
- 51:47And Lake Superior was like,
- 51:50or is it Lake Ontario?
- 51:51Lake Ontario was like rough.
- 51:57Yeah.
- 51:57Depending on the time of year,
- 51:58like they have really hot
- 52:00days in the summer.
- 52:01So that's like,
- 52:02lovely lake weather and it's
- 52:04like warm nights so there's
- 52:06there's still benefits to
- 52:08ontario because here in
- 52:10alberta like it can be
- 52:11really hot in the day and
- 52:12then it drops at night
- 52:15because it's a lot more dry
- 52:16so it's like maybe it's 30
- 52:19in the day and then it
- 52:20drops to like 15. celsius
- 52:24sorry yeah I don't know you
- 52:25you metric people yeah
- 52:29But I can somewhat convert-ish.
- 52:33I get an idea.
- 52:34Yeah.
- 52:35Well, as always,
- 52:37now that we've bashed Canada,
- 52:39Eastern Canada, we can end the show.
- 52:42But I'm so,
- 52:43so glad that I've had you on
- 52:44again this year.
- 52:45I'm glad you're back.
- 52:47Glad we got to catch up.
- 52:48And we'll be watching and
- 52:50rooting either from here or from there.
- 52:53And we'll try to catch up
- 52:54again that weekend.
- 52:56Awesome.
- 52:57I so much appreciate it.
- 52:58Thank you for having me on.
- 52:59And it's always fun chatting with you.
- 53:02Yeah.
- 53:03With that,
- 53:04we thank you to everybody in the chat.
- 53:05You've been awesome.
- 53:06And we'll see everybody next
- 53:08time on the Clydesdale
- 53:09media podcast featuring the
- 53:12athletes of the semifinals.
- 53:13Bye guys.
- 53:16Well,
- 53:17there was the end and it didn't happen.
- 53:18We're going to try again.
