- 2:38Speaker 1: of fashion, confidence and empowerment with none other than Stephanie
- 2:43Speaker 1: Johnson Rice, also known as the Pecunia Princess. She is
- 2:48Speaker 1: a proud resident of the Electric City of Anderson, South Carolina.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Stephanie is here to share her journey, the inspiration behind
- 2:56Speaker 1: her modeling school, and how she's changing lines by helping
- 3:00Speaker 1: others embrace their unique building. So sit back, relax, and
- 3:06Speaker 1: get ready for unforgettable conversation. Please welcome back, because she's
- 3:11Speaker 1: been here before, the Peculiar Princess for an inspiring conversation
- 3:16Speaker 1: about building companies, breaking barriers, and empowering individuals to embrace
- 3:22Speaker 1: their unique building. So let's get into it now. Stephanie
- 3:26Speaker 1: has been having a little bit of problems trying to
- 3:28Speaker 1: get in of course, she's in South Carolina and I'm
- 3:31Speaker 1: not sure how the weather is. I'm gonna talk to
- 3:34Speaker 1: you a little bit about mineling. You know, growing up,
- 3:36Speaker 1: a lot of people want to be models. They want
- 3:39Speaker 1: to be the next I guess Naomi Campbell, Twiggy, Tyra
- 3:45Speaker 1: Banks and that's just the name of few. But models
- 3:50Speaker 1: come in all shapes and sizes. They have plus sized models,
- 3:54Speaker 1: and they are breaking the runway. They are running that
- 3:57Speaker 1: runway like no other beautiful, beautiful, plus sized models and
- 4:04Speaker 1: they're doing their thing on the runway. Now, I know
- 4:07Speaker 1: that I've been seeing lately little girls modeling, and they're cute.
- 4:13Speaker 1: They're cute little kids if they're in their little Shirley
- 4:15Speaker 1: Temple's shoes and their little fluffy skirts and whatnot. But
- 4:19Speaker 1: what I've come across is some little girls that are
- 4:22Speaker 1: in heels. They're walking the runway in heels, and they're
- 4:26Speaker 1: no older than seven and eight. And I understand that,
- 4:29Speaker 1: you know, little girls like wearing their parents' shoes and
- 4:31Speaker 1: they play dress up, but these little girls are walking
- 4:34Speaker 1: a runway. They're putting their hands on their hips, they're
- 4:38Speaker 1: throwing that hand, they're moving that dress in that skirt,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and they're doing their thing going down the aisle. But
- 4:45Speaker 1: my question is to you, you do you think it's
- 4:48Speaker 1: appropriate for these little girls to be already running that runway?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Nation that thanks for joining me tonight, and yes they are.
- 4:59Speaker 1: When you say yes they are, do you think that
- 5:01Speaker 1: they are that it's good for them to be doing
- 5:04Speaker 1: that at such an early age, or do you think
- 5:06Speaker 1: that they should go at least by ten because some
- 5:09Speaker 1: of them could barely walk and those heels they're pretty high.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Some of them look like they're higher than the ones
- 5:15Speaker 1: that I even were, and I could throw on some stilettos.
- 5:19Speaker 1: But these little girls they're walking it. You know. I
- 5:22Speaker 1: don't know whether this is just some kind of plaything
- 5:26Speaker 1: that they're doing with these little girls or whether they're serious.
- 5:29Speaker 1: But when you look at the expression on the face
- 5:31Speaker 1: of these little girls, they main business. They're working that runway.
- 5:36Speaker 1: They're turning those heads, they have that little attitude. They
- 5:39Speaker 1: head over their shoulder and this is what they're doing. Well.
- 5:45Speaker 1: My guest tonight, Stephanie Johnson, brains she has been running
- 5:51Speaker 1: this runway and hers is unique and it is different
- 5:56Speaker 1: in you. You really have to tune into her shows.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I follow her on Facebook. She has I think she's
- 6:06Speaker 1: developed the met gallant in South Carolina, and I keep
- 6:10Speaker 1: saying that I'm gonna come down there to watch it.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But it's her style that got me. It's not the
- 6:17Speaker 1: average modeling school, nor is it the models that walk
- 6:25Speaker 1: her runway. When you see her style, she puts on
- 6:32Speaker 1: more than just the walk of the runway. She gives
- 6:34Speaker 1: you a show. She gives you a show and you
- 6:37Speaker 1: sit in her face. You see that in her hair.
- 6:42Speaker 1: You know, she has these ban two knots that she
- 6:45Speaker 1: has and they's so colorful, and she embodies it with
- 6:49Speaker 1: a small frame and she's so beautiful. Now, I can't
- 6:52Speaker 1: wait for you guys to meet and to see her
- 6:55Speaker 1: and to see what I see. But her models are
- 6:59Speaker 1: plus because they're walking that runway and they're working their thing.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So we're gonna see yeah. Shenette says, I believe it
- 7:09Speaker 1: is too soon for them to be wearing heels. Let
- 7:11Speaker 1: them be little girls first. Yeah, Because just like I'm
- 7:14Speaker 1: watching them and seeing these little girls walk the runway
- 7:18Speaker 1: in those heels, someone else is watching them as well.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So be careful with your little girls. I'm not saying
- 7:24Speaker 1: that you're raising your little girls wrong. I'm not saying
- 7:27Speaker 1: that you're doing the wrong thing. It may just be
- 7:29Speaker 1: fun for them to do, and I get that. But
- 7:32Speaker 1: I have somebody here tonight that can tell you all
- 7:34Speaker 1: about working that runway. My guess, the Peculiar Princess. Hey, Sweedie,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I'm so late. I was able to join us and
- 7:47Speaker 1: I can see a picture, but I'm not sure if
- 7:49Speaker 1: she can come up on your screen yet. But I
- 7:53Speaker 1: was giving them a little bit of insight of what
- 7:55Speaker 1: I know. And I'm not a professional at all. I
- 7:58Speaker 1: just I love watching it. I love watching the fashion.
- 8:02Speaker 1: But this woman is walking it. She is I think
- 8:05Speaker 1: she's designing her clothes. She's having these model strut they
- 8:08Speaker 1: stuff with her with her designs, and it's just it's
- 8:13Speaker 1: just something that I've never seen before. So I'm hoping
- 8:16Speaker 1: that others are paying attention because I think she's the
- 8:19Speaker 1: one to watch a little bit of microphone problems. But yeah,
- 8:28Speaker 1: just like I said, you know, they always said boys
- 8:31Speaker 1: will be boys, and not just saying girls will be girls.
- 8:34Speaker 1: But it's it's a little different. You know, boys will
- 8:37Speaker 1: be boys. They play, they play rough, they do things.
- 8:40Speaker 1: As a young girl, we are raised more so to
- 8:44Speaker 1: be nurturis, but we're breaking barriers and I get that
- 8:49Speaker 1: I understand it. But if you have a little girl,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and it's just my opinion a mother of six girls
- 8:55Speaker 1: and six boys, let them little girls be a little
- 9:00Speaker 1: girl for as long as they can, because when they're
- 9:02Speaker 1: an adult, they're an adult for the rest of their
- 9:05Speaker 1: life and they can't turn that back around, no matter
- 9:07Speaker 1: how much they would say, Oh, I wish I was
- 9:10Speaker 1: fifteen again, or I wish I was this age again,
- 9:12Speaker 1: because I'm just gonna go back to twenty five. I'm
- 9:14Speaker 1: not gonna go before that because those years it wasn't
- 9:18Speaker 1: that it was a struggle. It was just that I
- 9:20Speaker 1: don't want to go back to high school school. I
- 9:23Speaker 1: don't want to go back to all the beginnings, and
- 9:26Speaker 1: I don't want to go back to all those labor pains.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I think I can hear you, Hey, Stephanie, howire misprincess.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I think she's off and online. I can hear you
- 9:41Speaker 1: a little bit. But as I was saying, yeah, keep
- 9:45Speaker 1: your little girl a little girl for as long as
- 9:47Speaker 1: you can give her the tools that she needs to
- 9:53Speaker 1: grow up. You know, play makeup, fine, putting on mommy's
- 9:59Speaker 1: shoes on a Saturday morning, cute walking at one way
- 10:03Speaker 1: with the hands on their hips. That's just my opinion.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I think it's just a little bit too much for
- 10:14Speaker 1: them to be at that age to be able to
- 10:16Speaker 1: do things like that. You know, they got gymnastics, they
- 10:18Speaker 1: got what we did when we was in school, double dutch,
- 10:21Speaker 1: We played tag, We played with dolls. Shoot, I'm telling you, sho,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I played with dolls fourteen years old, and I ain't
- 10:28Speaker 1: see nothing wrong with that. As a matter of fact,
- 10:29Speaker 1: I still got some of my my baby dolls upstairs,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and I tell my grandkids, don't touch them. Don't touch
- 10:36Speaker 1: those dolls. Those dolls are older than you. Don't touch
- 10:38Speaker 1: those dolls. Someday they may be able to either play
- 10:40Speaker 1: with them or have them. But I think I was
- 10:43Speaker 1: well rounded in that way of playing with dolls and
- 10:47Speaker 1: well at least some part of my life of being
- 10:49Speaker 1: a little girl and enjoying the things that I was
- 10:52Speaker 1: able to enjoy trying to get in my sister's close. You,
- 10:56Speaker 1: I wanted to be grown and with her stuff. She
- 10:59Speaker 1: was a little older than me, and yeah, would sneak
- 11:02Speaker 1: some of her stuff and try to wear it, and
- 11:05Speaker 1: I got caught a couple of times. But I never
- 11:07Speaker 1: worked outside, you know, just in the house and just
- 11:09Speaker 1: having fun and that was I guess in a different
- 11:12Speaker 1: era and maybe I need to catch out. But again
- 11:14Speaker 1: I would just ask that, you know, ask your daughter
- 11:18Speaker 1: that's something she wants to see if that's something she
- 11:22Speaker 1: wants to do. Don't live your life through your daughter
- 11:26Speaker 1: by having her on stage because you wanted to do
- 11:29Speaker 1: or not when you were younger and you wanted to
- 11:31Speaker 1: be a pageant Because when were younger and you didn't
- 11:34Speaker 1: either get the opportunity or it didn't work out for you,
- 11:38Speaker 1: maybe there's something that she doesn't want to do. Definitely,
- 11:42Speaker 1: are you with us yet and you're still having problems
- 11:46Speaker 1: coming over? Because I wanted to ask that when about
- 11:53Speaker 1: her journey, you know, to she had a little bit
- 11:55Speaker 1: about her journey and what inspired her to start her
- 11:58Speaker 1: modeling school because she she just seems to be taking
- 12:02Speaker 1: over the South. So there's a modeling school that you
- 12:06Speaker 1: your young one to go to and just start off,
- 12:09Speaker 1: you know. And don't get me wrong, because a lot
- 12:11Speaker 1: of model on the schools start them off with poise.
- 12:16Speaker 1: They do poise, and they teach them how to walk,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and they teach them at they do add a lot
- 12:21Speaker 1: of that to that. So I'm not just saying that.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'm not saying d On the schools are bad and
- 12:26Speaker 1: not saying it's a bad choice because they do learn
- 12:28Speaker 1: other things. They do learn social skills as well in
- 12:32Speaker 1: the Miderling school. So don't let you know that be
- 12:35Speaker 1: the focus. For Sometimes you put on the shop and
- 12:38Speaker 1: that might just be a fashion and that could be it,
- 12:42Speaker 1: but there's somebody dead on it that every time you
- 12:46Speaker 1: turn around there on that stage being a man. There's
- 12:49Speaker 1: one young lady that I'm gonna be honest, I've been
- 12:53Speaker 1: following her and she she's doing a great job at it,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and she looks like she's enjoying herself for the family
- 12:59Speaker 1: says be very supportive. But I do still tend to
- 13:04Speaker 1: learn that you know when she got started and if
- 13:08Speaker 1: this is something that she wants to continue to do.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But she's a beautiful young lady and she's strutting her
- 13:15Speaker 1: stuff down. I see you're still trying to come in
- 13:18Speaker 1: and say something. I can't hear you, but I know
- 13:21Speaker 1: that you're trying to show you picture of it earlier.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I'm not sure, my but I also would like for
- 13:29Speaker 1: you to share what it means to be as the
- 13:31Speaker 1: peculiar Princess. Now I've gotten to know the peculiar Princess
- 13:37Speaker 1: last year, and I think that that name suitsa I
- 13:44Speaker 1: think being called the peculiar Princess suitor because you have
- 13:47Speaker 1: to follow her social media to see why she's considered
- 13:53Speaker 1: a peculiar princess. H I'm and I still hear some
- 14:01Speaker 1: moving around. And then I wanted to know, how did
- 14:03Speaker 1: you How does she break into the modeling industry and
- 14:06Speaker 1: what challenges did she face along the way. You know,
- 14:10Speaker 1: breaking into the model industry is not easy, and I
- 14:14Speaker 1: know there was a time that they wanted the girls
- 14:16Speaker 1: to be a size zero and if they if they
- 14:21Speaker 1: was a size street, they would consider true fact. And
- 14:24Speaker 1: when they do that and gymnastics, and they do that
- 14:26Speaker 1: in other sports where they would they would tell these
- 14:29Speaker 1: girls these stays and some of them some of them
- 14:33Speaker 1: from what I know of the Peculiar Futures modeling school,
- 14:36Speaker 1: it's come as you are. And that's what I like
- 14:39Speaker 1: so much about her program. It's coming as you are.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It doesn't matter what good size you are if you
- 14:45Speaker 1: feel as though your ability to make it down that
- 14:48Speaker 1: aisle and make it back without breaking on that because
- 14:50Speaker 1: I know that's what probably something that I would do,
- 14:53Speaker 1: wouldn't be able to make it halfway down without asking
- 14:55Speaker 1: somebody to help me walking into the levels on a
- 14:57Speaker 1: regular basis that I don't know. I also wanted to
- 15:04Speaker 1: find out from who or what has been her biggest
- 15:07Speaker 1: influence in her career, because she's doing more than just
- 15:11Speaker 1: the model. She's doing more than just having at the school.
- 15:17Speaker 1: She's doing so much more. And I see your picture,
- 15:20Speaker 1: here are you? Are you live with me now? She
- 15:28Speaker 1: usually has so much to say and when she gets going,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you the princess she she just she'll
- 15:37Speaker 1: take you there. She will definitely take you there. But
- 15:43Speaker 1: what I also wanted to know was what was one
- 15:45Speaker 1: defining moment in her career that shaped her to be
- 15:47Speaker 1: the person who she is today. It's like I said,
- 15:53Speaker 1: to get to know Stephanie, you're getting a known awesome
- 15:58Speaker 1: person because she's real. She's gonna lay it out there.
- 16:04Speaker 1: She's gonna tell you just how it is, and she's
- 16:07Speaker 1: not gonna hold back. And I think that these young
- 16:10Speaker 1: ladies that's going to her school is very lucky to
- 16:13Speaker 1: have her because she's being honest with them. You know,
- 16:16Speaker 1: if you're making a mistake. She's gonna let you know
- 16:18Speaker 1: about it. If she's telling them, she's gonna tell you
- 16:22Speaker 1: that this is not for you. Maybe come back next year.
- 16:25Speaker 1: She's not gonna be I'm not gonna mention this name
- 16:28Speaker 1: is black t shirt. And some people are fearful of
- 16:31Speaker 1: her when they go on certain singing shows. But she's
- 16:35Speaker 1: not gonna be that harsh. She do care about you,
- 16:39Speaker 1: She do want you to be the best, but at
- 16:41Speaker 1: that point in time, it might not be for you
- 16:44Speaker 1: at that moment. But she's willing to work with your
- 16:47Speaker 1: now because she's worked with some awesome young ladies and
- 16:51Speaker 1: I've seen them. I've seen them work that one way.
- 16:55Speaker 1: You know. To what sets her modeling the school apart
- 16:58Speaker 1: from others in the industry, I think that. I think
- 17:03Speaker 1: it's the authenticity from her being original, not holding back,
- 17:09Speaker 1: not being afraid to take chances, and to keep going
- 17:15Speaker 1: no matter what anybody says. She just keeps going. How
- 17:22Speaker 1: would she help her students build confidence embrace their uniqueness
- 17:28Speaker 1: by being an example? See I'm answering these questions because
- 17:33Speaker 1: I think I know her well enough to know because
- 17:36Speaker 1: I see these things in her by being an example,
- 17:42Speaker 1: there's one picture that I have of her, and I
- 17:46Speaker 1: just love that picture and I just look at it
- 17:48Speaker 1: and it's a green background, and I just love that picture.
- 17:51Speaker 1: But she has a picture and she has this she
- 17:54Speaker 1: has this dominant face where she's standing on this I
- 17:59Speaker 1: think it's like a rock or something, and it's a
- 18:02Speaker 1: beautiful background. But you don't notice that background because you
- 18:04Speaker 1: see her, And I think this is what she exudes
- 18:08Speaker 1: when she's talking to the young ladies that's in her
- 18:12Speaker 1: modeling school. And I know when I ask what age
- 18:16Speaker 1: group or demographic does her school primarily focused on, I've
- 18:20Speaker 1: seen them come from just about everywhere. Young, older, I'm
- 18:26Speaker 1: not gonna say old, I'll say older. And are you
- 18:33Speaker 1: here with me, Stephanie, Yes.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Can you hear me?
- 18:37Speaker 1: I can hear you, Sweedie, I can hear you. Thank
- 18:41Speaker 1: you so much for I hope I've been covering you.
- 18:44Speaker 4: You made me sound so good, and sometimes you need
- 18:50Speaker 4: to because you are.
- 18:52Speaker 1: It's a whole.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Like people see the photos, they see the glamour, but
- 18:56Speaker 4: it literally is work. It really is that you're putting
- 19:00Speaker 4: yourself into something to get an outcome. So and just
- 19:05Speaker 4: when you said I watch her, then you said I've
- 19:08Speaker 4: got my favorite picture of her. It genuinely shows that
- 19:11Speaker 4: you truly support and a lot of people will invite
- 19:15Speaker 4: me because most of the shows are outside of South Carolina.
- 19:19Speaker 4: I travel a lot and now don't have like a
- 19:22Speaker 4: person in the seats, you know what I'm saying. So
- 19:25Speaker 4: a lot of times people are like, Okay, well you
- 19:27Speaker 4: got to sell this many tickets, and I have to
- 19:28Speaker 4: let them know up front. I don't have a lot
- 19:31Speaker 4: of people that travel with me like that. They would
- 19:33Speaker 4: like to, but they are not able to, and so
- 19:36Speaker 4: it just it made me. That was my favorite thing
- 19:39Speaker 4: when you said, I sit there and I watch them,
- 19:43Speaker 4: there is no age limit. I've seen them come from
- 19:45Speaker 4: all walks of life that she's honest and straightforward with
- 19:49Speaker 4: you because it shows that you genuinely have your own
- 19:53Speaker 4: personal investment and the person that you met and connected
- 19:58Speaker 4: with on this pot cast, and I love you even
- 20:01Speaker 4: more for that.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I think that's awesome. That's awesome.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I think you're awesome. I think from the first day
- 20:08Speaker 1: that I met you, I said, if it was something
- 20:10Speaker 1: in the voice and the things that you were saying,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and then some of your little quirky side shows, I said,
- 20:16Speaker 1: one you just had me from that moment on, I
- 20:19Speaker 1: said that that's that right there, that's it. But the
- 20:23Speaker 1: journey with the modeling. I was watching it because I said,
- 20:25Speaker 1: it is different. It's different than what I've seen. I've
- 20:29Speaker 1: seen you working with your models, and I said, that's
- 20:32Speaker 1: just so different. And I haven't been around a lot
- 20:35Speaker 1: of individuals who have modeling schools. I know. I took
- 20:39Speaker 1: my nieces to modeling school, but that was more for
- 20:42Speaker 1: etiquette and everything else. But they see the modeling in there,
- 20:45Speaker 1: and that was a plus. Then that was a plus.
- 20:47Speaker 1: They wasn't walking in heels at that time. That was
- 20:51Speaker 1: many years ago. And I understand that culture has changed
- 20:54Speaker 1: and everything, but I see that you still teach them.
- 20:58Speaker 1: You know that there's still little girls, they're still teenagers,
- 21:03Speaker 1: and you keep that age appropriate. And that's what I
- 21:05Speaker 1: like about it. Correct id it? And I said, my god.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I saw when you had advertised for the little girls.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I said, I wonder what she's gonna do with that.
- 21:16Speaker 1: And then when I saw them come out and I
- 21:18Speaker 1: saw them just in regular clothes, I said, oh my god, Yes, yes, yes,
- 21:24Speaker 1: this is what I'm talking about. Yes, a thousand times. Yes,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you don't see all of this big lipstick on them,
- 21:32Speaker 1: not unless it's in character correct. I love it, you know,
- 21:36Speaker 1: and I just I can't get enough of it. That's
- 21:39Speaker 1: just that I have. And I still look at the picture.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I'm not going to show it because I don't want
- 21:42Speaker 1: to share nobody. But I just put it on Facebook
- 21:47Speaker 1: when we spoke the first time, and I said, that's
- 21:50Speaker 1: my favorite picture and I still have it. But can
- 21:53Speaker 1: you can you walk us through what a typical day
- 21:56Speaker 1: at your model and school looks like?
- 21:58Speaker 4: Okay, I get a lot of interest in it. I
- 22:04Speaker 4: God told me to start that modeling agency like four
- 22:07Speaker 4: years ago, and I'm gonna tell you, Blake Dowamond, I
- 22:09Speaker 4: didn't want to. I felt like I had enough on
- 22:11Speaker 4: my plate. I felt like that's dealing with more people.
- 22:14Speaker 4: But after I started it, the interest is still growing.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I still have people that's asking, I still have people joining.
- 22:20Speaker 4: But the typical day is first of all, we meet,
- 22:25Speaker 4: we will come together. We will talk about upcoming shows,
- 22:28Speaker 4: We'll talk about past shows, because we'll talk about things
- 22:31Speaker 4: that happened that does not need to happen again. Because
- 22:35Speaker 4: it's a certain level of professionalism. Even though we might
- 22:38Speaker 4: consider a certain model amateur like it's our first time walking,
- 22:42Speaker 4: but there are certain things that we expect out of
- 22:44Speaker 4: that individual as a model. A lot of them all
- 22:49Speaker 4: they need is to get their own swag. It's too
- 22:53Speaker 4: many of them that are listening to other people instead
- 22:56Speaker 4: of just being or becoming who they are. Meet will
- 23:00Speaker 4: discuss the past shows, we'll discuss the upcoming shows, and
- 23:05Speaker 4: then we'll discuss their photos. We will discuss what they
- 23:12Speaker 4: think that a model is or how will model should
- 23:14Speaker 4: conduct themselves and we tweaked that accordingly because a lot
- 23:18Speaker 4: of them. I remember one young lady saying, well, a
- 23:20Speaker 4: lot of them in the show was walking, and she
- 23:22Speaker 4: showed how they were walking, and I told her, I said,
- 23:25Speaker 4: that shows that you don't genuinely watch like I had
- 23:30Speaker 4: watched Tyra Banks. I'm talking about episode from season to season,
- 23:35Speaker 4: not even realizing that I would be doing this type
- 23:38Speaker 4: of work. But I said, it shows that you don't
- 23:40Speaker 4: watch because that's how some of them walk. Some of
- 23:43Speaker 4: them walk with their pelvis thrust forward and their body
- 23:46Speaker 4: leaned back. Everybody doesn't, but a lot of them do,
- 23:50Speaker 4: I said. And when you see the different ways in
- 23:52Speaker 4: the industry that different people walk, it's some that just
- 23:55Speaker 4: got an industry walk, which is just a straight up walk.
- 23:57Speaker 4: It's some that they got their own sway, that on swag,
- 23:59Speaker 4: that personality to their walk, and that's fine too, but
- 24:02Speaker 4: you cannot sit there and be like, oh, well, this
- 24:05Speaker 4: walk isn't going to work. Use this walk isn't going
- 24:07Speaker 4: to work because there's plenty of walks that if you
- 24:10Speaker 4: just cut off the top of the person, you will
- 24:12Speaker 4: still be able to identify Naomi, or you will still
- 24:15Speaker 4: be able to identify tireman from out they walk. So
- 24:20Speaker 4: we get them to get into becoming a model, but
- 24:25Speaker 4: still being who you are. We still want that peculiarness,
- 24:29Speaker 4: we still want that authenticity. We still want you being
- 24:31Speaker 4: who you are, but at the same time representing yourself
- 24:34Speaker 4: as the brand.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Well, so that's how we begin. We come together.
- 24:38Speaker 4: We speak to them one of your expectations, then we
- 24:41Speaker 4: tell them our expectations, and then we have them will
- 24:45Speaker 4: have runway training, will have meetings where we discuss their confidence.
- 24:49Speaker 4: We will talk about hair and makeup, because a lot
- 24:51Speaker 4: of times you'll have makeup already scheduled, but they don't
- 24:54Speaker 4: show up for whatever reason, or they're running late. So
- 24:57Speaker 4: we try to have them know just the basics, because
- 25:01Speaker 4: a lot of shows they just want a neutral look.
- 25:05Speaker 4: So that's a simple look with simple foundation, simple eyeshadow,
- 25:09Speaker 4: nothing outstanding, so that no matter what garment you're put in,
- 25:13Speaker 4: the makeup works. And then you'll have some that it's
- 25:15Speaker 4: a bold look. That designer has bold garments, they want
- 25:20Speaker 4: bold makeup. But that's been very, very rare that I've seen,
- 25:24Speaker 4: very rare. Most of the bold looks are for photo shoots,
- 25:27Speaker 4: but generally for a fashion show, it's neutral makeup. Foundation,
- 25:33Speaker 4: like gold on your eyes. Some of them allow a
- 25:36Speaker 4: red lip, but most of them want that brown or
- 25:38Speaker 4: that nude. They don't want your face, even though your
- 25:42Speaker 4: face is in it. They want that garment to stand
- 25:44Speaker 4: out more than you stand out, because that's the perfect
- 25:50Speaker 4: So that's the tem.
- 25:51Speaker 1: They have to They have to learn how to have
- 25:54Speaker 1: their own signature walk. You have one young lady who
- 25:57Speaker 1: have also been following, and I've seen her. She's been
- 26:02Speaker 1: with you for a few years, and I've seen her
- 26:06Speaker 1: walk her very first walk. And then I looked at
- 26:10Speaker 1: her again, I says, this is the same young lady.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And I had to go back to look and I said,
- 26:15Speaker 1: my god, look at her and she's just she's just
- 26:19Speaker 1: developed so well with her walk. I would say if
- 26:23Speaker 1: I knew her, and I'm gonna try to find a
- 26:25Speaker 1: picture again, she has her signature.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Walk, do that and because that's done it.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Yes, that's exactly what I like to hear because it
- 26:34Speaker 4: shows that there is growth. Because I had one photographer
- 26:37Speaker 4: tell me he was like, this one she's gonna come
- 26:39Speaker 4: a long way. This one, she's gonna come a long
- 26:40Speaker 4: way because he's already out shooting Greenville Fashion Week, Spartanburg
- 26:44Speaker 4: Fashion Week, you know, and traveling out of town. And
- 26:47Speaker 4: that speaks to the agency. I tell them, regardless of
- 26:51Speaker 4: you being the model, you still represent the entire brand.
- 26:55Speaker 4: So that's even if we go out, if you act
- 26:57Speaker 4: a certain way, it reflects back on the age. See,
- 27:00Speaker 4: they're not gonna be like this model acted crazy. They're
- 27:02Speaker 4: gonna be like, who is this model with? Oh, she's
- 27:05Speaker 4: a peculiar princess. We don't want to work with them
- 27:07Speaker 4: again because this occurred. So I always tell them to
- 27:10Speaker 4: have a level of excellence and professionalism. But just you
- 27:14Speaker 4: saying that makes me feel so good because that's what
- 27:16Speaker 4: I look for.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Are we improving? Are we advancing?
- 27:20Speaker 4: Are we going forward in what we are called to do,
- 27:23Speaker 4: because it's the model is unleashing your uniqueness into the universe.
- 27:28Speaker 4: So if you've got that uniqueness, if you're peculiar, if
- 27:31Speaker 4: you're different, it should be seen and not the fact
- 27:34Speaker 4: that you're trying to make it happen. It's just the
- 27:36Speaker 4: fact that you already on a riginal You already not
- 27:40Speaker 4: a carbon copy. So just let the world see who
- 27:43Speaker 4: you are as you walk, as you speak, because we'll
- 27:47Speaker 4: train them on that too. I'll get them up spur
- 27:49Speaker 4: in the moment. Speak because some of you are brand ambassadors,
- 27:53Speaker 4: so you'll be asked to speak about your brand. They're
- 27:57Speaker 4: modeling clothes for other people, they are going out to
- 28:00Speaker 4: other events, and they're being asked to speak. So I
- 28:02Speaker 4: want it well rounded. I want you to represent Pecure,
- 28:05Speaker 4: your princess well. Growth is a part of that.
- 28:08Speaker 1: What skills do you believe or sent you for success
- 28:12Speaker 1: in the modeling world?
- 28:14Speaker 4: Listen, Number one, you have got to be flexible. Oh
- 28:18Speaker 4: my god, in this modling game, when you are going
- 28:22Speaker 4: and you are serious, it has been shows that I
- 28:26Speaker 4: have been a part of what everybody. Hundreds of models
- 28:29Speaker 4: are in one conference room. I'm talking about males and
- 28:33Speaker 4: talking about females and talking about adults, I'm talking about kids.
- 28:36Speaker 4: And that's the dressing room. It is crowded, it is rushed,
- 28:40Speaker 4: so it's a lot of people, and that's fine. It's
- 28:44Speaker 4: a lot of people that are body shy, so they
- 28:46Speaker 4: might have like a curtain up or whatever.
- 28:49Speaker 3: But I'm trying to tell you most of them folks
- 28:51Speaker 3: not looking at you.
- 28:52Speaker 4: They are in there getting dressed because they're walking for
- 28:54Speaker 4: five designers at the time, some of them back to back.
- 28:57Speaker 4: The nah flexible, you cannot go in Oh my god,
- 29:02Speaker 4: this is oh there's too many people in here. Oh
- 29:05Speaker 4: it's because it's times that I've been in what seemed
- 29:07Speaker 4: like a closet with thirty models and we're all getting dressed,
- 29:12Speaker 4: and we're all running out and while all coming back.
- 29:15Speaker 4: You have to have flexibility because it's not one or
- 29:18Speaker 4: two hours Black Diamond.
- 29:20Speaker 3: You the show might be.
- 29:21Speaker 4: At six in the evening, but you have to be
- 29:23Speaker 4: there at ten in the morning. That's hair, that's makeup,
- 29:27Speaker 4: that's fittings. When you're walking for more than one person,
- 29:29Speaker 4: if you're a designer and a model, then you got
- 29:32Speaker 4: to get fitted and you gotta fit the models, So
- 29:34Speaker 4: then you're running around for hours before the show even starts,
- 29:38Speaker 4: making sure everything is lined up. So you have to
- 29:42Speaker 4: be flexible. It's sometimes that models they won't show up.
- 29:46Speaker 4: It's times that they'll add models to the roster. It's
- 29:48Speaker 4: times that models will walk up and ask you, do
- 29:51Speaker 4: you have.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Anything for me? My designer dropped out.
- 29:54Speaker 4: I don't have anybody to walk for, and so I
- 29:56Speaker 4: always bring extra garments of all different sizes because that
- 29:59Speaker 4: had happened one in one time, and I always want
- 30:02Speaker 4: to be prepared now because when your designer doesn't show
- 30:05Speaker 4: up and that's the only one you're walking for, then
- 30:07Speaker 4: you don't put in time, you don't put in money,
- 30:09Speaker 4: you're disappointed. The show produces disappointed. So I try to
- 30:14Speaker 4: make it easy and be accommodating and flexible, and however
- 30:19Speaker 4: I can, because girl, it's a wild house in the
- 30:22Speaker 4: back behind the curtains.
- 30:25Speaker 3: See is crazy.
- 30:29Speaker 4: So being flexible and accommodating is necessary. It is first
- 30:35Speaker 4: and foremost because you don't know what you're walking into.
- 30:38Speaker 4: You don't know how much room you'll have, and then
- 30:40Speaker 4: you don't know sometimes what kind of models you do.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Because everything doesn't always flow smoothly. All of them don't
- 30:47Speaker 4: always have good attitudes. Sometimes the designers come in they
- 30:51Speaker 4: feel in titled, it's a lot going on. You have
- 30:54Speaker 4: to be flexible. You have to let things run off
- 30:57Speaker 4: your back by water off a ducts back. You have
- 30:59Speaker 4: to be flexible. Don't accept that. Yep, that was kind
- 31:03Speaker 4: of harsh, but don't take it in. Continue your work.
- 31:06Speaker 4: This is your brand. You still gotta stay focused no
- 31:08Speaker 4: matter what's going on around you. You still have to
- 31:12Speaker 4: maintain that professionalism. It was one time I almost got
- 31:16Speaker 4: told somebody always watching.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Somebody's always watching it, you know, and you never know
- 31:22Speaker 1: yet people don't. Yeah, this is hard to work with.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Once you get that label of being hard to work with,
- 31:29Speaker 1: you may stop being a model and want to be
- 31:31Speaker 1: an actress. It's gonna follow you. It was gonna follow you.
- 31:34Speaker 1: You you're glad you get a job at McDonald's and noose.
- 31:40Speaker 1: You know what, I'm serious, it happens. You know, you
- 31:42Speaker 1: really have to watch it. This is something that you're
- 31:45Speaker 1: serious about and you want to be a model. Then
- 31:48Speaker 1: while you at home, put your stuff all over the place,
- 31:51Speaker 1: throw it all over the room, go into your closet
- 31:53Speaker 1: and act like that's the space that you have, and
- 31:55Speaker 1: you got to be able to manage it in the dark,
- 31:58Speaker 1: priss practice it because it's going to be perfected when
- 32:02Speaker 1: you get out there, because then you don't have it
- 32:04Speaker 1: in your head. Well, I remember how I was doing
- 32:05Speaker 1: it in the closet and whatnot, and I knew I
- 32:07Speaker 1: had my stuff here and there. Sometimes you're having a
- 32:09Speaker 1: pair of shoes you can and only shoes that's there
- 32:12Speaker 1: besides eight and a half. Girl, you can wear eight
- 32:15Speaker 1: and a half and make it down that dag on
- 32:17Speaker 1: runway acting like I gotta want to pick shoes that fit.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Yes, ma'am, the man take them off from you.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Keep it. That is exactly right. I've watched it enough.
- 32:31Speaker 4: Yes, everything is not going to be the way that
- 32:34Speaker 4: you want it, but you still got to walk out
- 32:36Speaker 4: there like you absolutely got it together.
- 32:39Speaker 1: It's been people. This is what I've been having to
- 32:41Speaker 1: deal with.
- 32:41Speaker 4: But what I'm eliminating, this is one of the hardest
- 32:44Speaker 4: things that's for me to deal with is when I
- 32:47Speaker 4: started out. My mentor Jenna, Miss Jennifer Baker, she's out
- 32:51Speaker 4: of North North Carolina. She does North Carolina Fashion Week
- 32:53Speaker 4: twice a year. And I remember when I first started
- 32:56Speaker 4: out I put on a dress on the model and
- 32:58Speaker 4: I said, how do you like she was walking by.
- 33:01Speaker 1: She stopped walking by. She looked at me.
- 33:02Speaker 4: She was like, you don't ask them how they like it.
- 33:05Speaker 4: She was like, you give it to them. They put
- 33:07Speaker 4: it on, and that's what they walk in. You're the designer.
- 33:10Speaker 4: You put it on them and they walk it. I
- 33:14Speaker 4: was like, okay, you know, because I was still learning.
- 33:16Speaker 4: So then I started getting to the point where they were, ugh,
- 33:21Speaker 4: I don't like this. Oh I looked at it, and
- 33:23Speaker 4: it showed in my pictures black Diamond. When they took
- 33:26Speaker 4: the pictures, the dislike for the garment showed to where
- 33:29Speaker 4: I wouldn't even share those pictures because you could see
- 33:32Speaker 4: on their face that they didn't like it. So now
- 33:34Speaker 4: I've become more selective. I speak with the producers that
- 33:38Speaker 4: communicate with them. With this model right here, I would
- 33:43Speaker 4: prefer not to dress due to an issue that had
- 33:46Speaker 4: arisen where they negatively spoke on a garment, and they
- 33:49Speaker 4: understand because they say, it doesn't matter if you put
- 33:52Speaker 4: them in a garbage bag. They are to put that
- 33:55Speaker 4: bag on and model it without.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Questioning garbage bag. I'll model a garbage bag in a minute,
- 34:02Speaker 1: I'll take a garbage bag of purse. Yes, and I'm
- 34:06Speaker 1: model in a minute, turning yeah that bag, yes please, So.
- 34:15Speaker 4: That that garbage bag, though one designer literally did one
- 34:18Speaker 4: designer literally had a line of garbage bags last year, No,
- 34:22Speaker 4: this year. This year in the summer, she had a
- 34:27Speaker 4: garment baby that was made with freaking plastic spoons, black
- 34:32Speaker 4: diamond plastic. When I tell you that thing looked good.
- 34:37Speaker 4: When I tell you that model god on the runway
- 34:40Speaker 4: and you can hear the spoons and she walked, I
- 34:44Speaker 4: was like, oh my god. Just when talking about the
- 34:46Speaker 4: creativity is some people's brains and how they take it.
- 34:49Speaker 4: I can't even remember how many spoons she said it took.
- 34:52Speaker 4: But that thing looked so cature when she was done
- 34:55Speaker 4: with it that it's bananas that she had sewn a
- 34:58Speaker 4: garment together and put the spoons on it, and it
- 35:03Speaker 4: was couture and classy. And that model was tall and
- 35:07Speaker 4: regal that type of thing. So I like to work
- 35:11Speaker 4: with models who like, Okay, you got me a stick,
- 35:13Speaker 4: let me put this stick on.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna walk like.
- 35:16Speaker 4: They're like, this stick is the most beautiful thing, and
- 35:18Speaker 4: they just I mean, I love it, so I'm starting
- 35:22Speaker 4: to be more selective when they allow me to choose. Now,
- 35:25Speaker 4: if they choose, I just I work with who they
- 35:27Speaker 4: give me unless they get crazy. And I have had
- 35:29Speaker 4: to talk about some producers. Listen, I might not be
- 35:32Speaker 4: able to work with you anymore if you continue to
- 35:35Speaker 4: have this model, because it hasn't been one time, it's
- 35:37Speaker 4: been multiple times that things that they've done are unsafer.
- 35:41Speaker 4: And I can't continue on with that because I got
- 35:44Speaker 4: a reputation and I want that to I want my
- 35:47Speaker 4: name when they say my name, that they'd be like
- 35:49Speaker 4: I would work with her at any time, that type
- 35:53Speaker 4: of thing.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I want my name to continue to remain.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:57Speaker 1: So I'm your door because I've been seeing some amazing
- 36:02Speaker 1: things coming coming through you. I have, Man, I'm just
- 36:06Speaker 1: sitting there sometimes when I don't have anything else to do,
- 36:09Speaker 1: and you think it's a television sho I'm just sitting
- 36:11Speaker 1: there watching because I'm just intrigued by it, saying I
- 36:15Speaker 1: don't know what anybody else may feel, but that's the
- 36:17Speaker 1: way I feel.
- 36:18Speaker 4: You are confirmation because he I was sitting there and
- 36:23Speaker 4: I always talk to God about the upcoming year and
- 36:27Speaker 4: what he wants and that's what is next. I was
- 36:30Speaker 4: I had to ask who could follow me and get
- 36:33Speaker 4: content so that we could put together just the miniseries,
- 36:37Speaker 4: just to see how it does, what they actually see,
- 36:40Speaker 4: what's going on behind the scenes, what that actually get
- 36:43Speaker 4: to talk to some of the producers, some of the models,
- 36:45Speaker 4: and then I have some input in there along the
- 36:47Speaker 4: way as well, because when I've had people who were
- 36:50Speaker 4: able to come with me and assist me, when they
- 36:53Speaker 4: got in that car, Flat Donald, if you can see,
- 36:57Speaker 4: I didn't looked at me because it was a mother
- 36:59Speaker 4: and a daughter. So when we went we were going
- 37:01Speaker 4: to fit some models and a lot of shows they
- 37:06Speaker 4: will allow me to style, usually over the maximum number
- 37:10Speaker 4: allowed because they know that I will. So it was
- 37:14Speaker 4: a lot of I mean black down. This is what
- 37:17Speaker 4: they were doing MC Stephanie, MS Stephanie seventy MS Stephanie.
- 37:20Speaker 4: I'm talking about like five or six people at the time.
- 37:22Speaker 4: And so then we got in the car. She were like,
- 37:24Speaker 4: oh my god. She was like, I almost said, Mama.
- 37:27Speaker 4: She was like because I was so overwhelmed. She was like,
- 37:30Speaker 4: they were just calling you from everywhere. I said, but
- 37:33Speaker 4: this is what you do as my assistant. I said,
- 37:35Speaker 4: if you see me working with somebody, then when they
- 37:38Speaker 4: start yelling my name from all around, you'll be like,
- 37:40Speaker 4: please excuse me, y'all will get with you after she's
- 37:44Speaker 4: done with this model, I said, you have the authority
- 37:47Speaker 4: as my sister to do that. Because she was just
- 37:49Speaker 4: learning to be the assistant. I said, you let them know, y'all,
- 37:52Speaker 4: she will be with you when she's done.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Because they will.
- 37:55Speaker 4: They will sit there ten people calling me while I'm
- 37:57Speaker 4: talking to one model, like I'm able to rest all
- 38:00Speaker 4: ten of you.
- 38:01Speaker 1: And so she got going to return to them and say, look,
- 38:05Speaker 1: she's with you a minute. What do you need? Looking
- 38:07Speaker 1: over the shoulder? The other one, what do you got?
- 38:09Speaker 1: Your stuff is a wat yeah.
- 38:11Speaker 4: And so I've also told them, as my assistant, if
- 38:15Speaker 4: you see something hanging on this wreck and it looks
- 38:18Speaker 4: like that, it fits them. If I'm working with this
- 38:20Speaker 4: one over here, I say, you got full authority. This
- 38:22Speaker 4: looks here. Try this on, here, Try this on, I said,
- 38:25Speaker 4: because your job is to help this flow smoothly. I said,
- 38:28Speaker 4: you're you're just starting out as my assistant, but you've
- 38:31Speaker 4: been with me, as with peculiar princes for.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Over a year. You know what I'm saying, so you know.
- 38:36Speaker 3: What I like.
- 38:37Speaker 4: You know what I put them in. You know how
- 38:39Speaker 4: I want them to look. You know what I'm looking
- 38:40Speaker 4: to closed. They have to find closed.
- 38:43Speaker 1: They have to know what shows together because if you're
- 38:46Speaker 1: kicking up a dress and somebody doesn't have anything, here
- 38:50Speaker 1: this dress to go, next, verson this dress that we'll go,
- 38:54Speaker 1: you got to get it. Whoever, this person is afraid
- 39:00Speaker 1: that she can't approach the models because she was on
- 39:03Speaker 1: the other end. But that's it. Let us know, because yeah.
- 39:11Speaker 4: That's what she has done. She has grown to what
- 39:13Speaker 4: now she knows we bring them garments, seeing they already know. Okay,
- 39:17Speaker 4: over here is the garments that's already been assigned. Over
- 39:20Speaker 4: Here is the open garments. Put a body in it
- 39:23Speaker 4: and let's go. Because she's seen the chaotic scenes that
- 39:26Speaker 4: happen behind the curtain, and I was like, my baby,
- 39:29Speaker 4: we don't got time. I've got this many models. Here's
- 39:32Speaker 4: they names, here'sday. And they'll be like, are you protcure
- 39:35Speaker 4: your prince sus Yes we are. I think I'm walking
- 39:37Speaker 4: for you, okay. And then sometimes if it's just me
- 39:39Speaker 4: and my Assistan's sitting there, somebody walk up. I'll be like, okay,
- 39:41Speaker 4: style them. I challenge okay, style.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Them, we put them in something.
- 39:44Speaker 4: Let me see what you'll give them, because I need
- 39:47Speaker 4: this thing to flow regardless. My name is on the brand,
- 39:51Speaker 4: but the brand is a whole entity that I don't
- 39:53Speaker 4: need to stop even if I were not to be there.
- 39:57Speaker 4: And so it's been plenty of times where people will
- 39:59Speaker 4: ask me to come to a show. I said, I'm
- 40:01Speaker 4: already booked, and they will be like, well, can you
- 40:03Speaker 4: send your garments? Can you send a representatives?
- 40:08Speaker 3: Yes? I sure can.
- 40:09Speaker 4: And I think that's that's major to be acts number one,
- 40:13Speaker 4: can't be there personally, and then too to still have
- 40:16Speaker 4: your brand so that you in two freaking places at
- 40:19Speaker 4: one time. That standard of excellence is what I want
- 40:22Speaker 4: to grow even more and.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Make sure they get those pictures of the if in
- 40:27Speaker 1: one place and your stuff being someplace else, and just
- 40:29Speaker 1: letting it know that on these days they have to
- 40:32Speaker 1: be on point. How has the modeling industry changed them
- 40:35Speaker 1: to begin your career? Okay?
- 40:39Speaker 4: I And this is what's sad because this is what
- 40:42Speaker 4: I see. I don't see a lot of growing and excellence.
- 40:50Speaker 4: I see a lot of things that just are allowed
- 40:53Speaker 4: because people either want to do a show or they
- 40:55Speaker 4: want to model. There's nothing wrong with that, but there
- 40:59Speaker 4: is training involved. There's a certain level of excellist that's involved.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Because anybody could say I'm gonna put on the show,
- 41:07Speaker 4: bring in some models, bring in some designers, and put
- 41:10Speaker 4: on that show. But when it's a level of excellence,
- 41:13Speaker 4: it's a designer that Skipwaller. He's out of North Carolina
- 41:16Speaker 4: as well. My tenuere old niece was with me when
- 41:20Speaker 4: he had his first show. She was back there while
- 41:23Speaker 4: I was designing. At the end, she said, that's the
- 41:26Speaker 4: best show that I have ever seen.
- 41:29Speaker 3: She was like, the.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Show was organized. She was like the models were respectful
- 41:33Speaker 4: because they were If I was speaking, they did not yell.
- 41:36Speaker 4: They were waiting patiently. They would come up if they
- 41:39Speaker 4: weren't walking for me, like do you have anything extra
- 41:41Speaker 4: that I could wear? But it flowed so smoothly black
- 41:45Speaker 4: diamond that it.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Was like it wasn't work. That it wasn't I didn't
- 41:49Speaker 1: have to put forth effort.
- 41:50Speaker 4: It just came came fit. You saw that everybody was
- 41:56Speaker 4: so good. So I see, I hate to call it
- 42:00Speaker 4: a lack of excellence, but that's what it is. So
- 42:03Speaker 4: that now I asked, Okay, what's your vision, what are
- 42:07Speaker 4: you doing?
- 42:08Speaker 3: What do you need from me?
- 42:10Speaker 4: Even though God usually determines which one I do, because
- 42:13Speaker 4: it was one I want to do in Florida. It
- 42:15Speaker 4: was like at disney World or Disneyland or something, and
- 42:17Speaker 4: he was like no, and I said, oh my God,
- 42:20Speaker 4: like I really wanted to know. He said, no, you're
- 42:22Speaker 4: not doing that one. Then it's something I don't want
- 42:25Speaker 4: to do. And he'll be like, no, I'm gonna need
- 42:26Speaker 4: you to do that one and a network will be
- 42:29Speaker 4: established out of that. Even though I didn't want to go,
- 42:31Speaker 4: it was reasons that he had me to go. But
- 42:34Speaker 4: it is it's some things look like that, they're just
- 42:37Speaker 4: thrown together. It's unprofessional, and it's not a lot of
- 42:43Speaker 4: everything I want to do.
- 42:44Speaker 3: I want it to be the next step. You want
- 42:48Speaker 3: to go the next step?
- 42:51Speaker 1: How do you address issues like diversity and inclusion in
- 42:55Speaker 1: the modern world with me?
- 42:57Speaker 4: Mine is all inclusive. I've been in somewhere they won't
- 43:01Speaker 4: allow and that's the right. They won't allow homosexuals to walk,
- 43:06Speaker 4: or transgender or anything. I don't discriminate with anybody. We
- 43:10Speaker 4: style everybody. I asked that everybody respect everybody's individualness, but
- 43:19Speaker 4: I expect.
- 43:22Speaker 3: A level of integrity in the business.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Whatever you're doing, you do, but when it comes to
- 43:31Speaker 4: that business, that that business is your focus. We would
- 43:35Speaker 4: travel to North Carolina, me and my assistant. We went
- 43:38Speaker 4: to QT the little lady, the cashier.
- 43:41Speaker 1: It was real rude.
- 43:42Speaker 4: She was sitting there knowing us, like we were right
- 43:44Speaker 4: in front of us. She was right in front of us,
- 43:46Speaker 4: and she was serving everybody but us. And I looked
- 43:49Speaker 4: at her and I just stood there and watched the cashier.
- 43:53Speaker 4: And then my assistant was like, oh, she don't see us.
- 43:57Speaker 4: And all I did was look at her, and I said,
- 43:59Speaker 4: we're on peculiar princess business.
- 44:01Speaker 3: And she was like you right.
- 44:03Speaker 4: So we just sat down and waited till the lady
- 44:05Speaker 4: finally acknowledged us. Now, I'm telling you, if we were
- 44:07Speaker 4: going to procure your prince's business, I don't know what
- 44:10Speaker 4: would a got handled. But it was I knew that
- 44:13Speaker 4: I was on assignment that Stephanie could not show out
- 44:17Speaker 4: because this wasn't even Stephanie. It's is the CEO of
- 44:20Speaker 4: Peculiar Presses. And like you said, people are watching. Who
- 44:24Speaker 4: knew who was in that store that would have seen
- 44:26Speaker 4: that and eventually seen me in something else and be like, no,
- 44:28Speaker 4: I remember her.
- 44:29Speaker 1: She showed out on QT. But I expect them to respect.
- 44:32Speaker 4: That brand to where if we're doing the show between
- 44:36Speaker 4: that hours of ten and eight, that's what I expect
- 44:40Speaker 4: you to your focus to be after eight o'clock, then
- 44:44Speaker 4: whatever you do, that's on you.
- 44:46Speaker 1: They ain't got nothing to do with me.
- 44:47Speaker 4: But I expect, no matter who you are, no matter
- 44:50Speaker 4: what you believe, no matter what creed, religion, gender, that
- 44:53Speaker 4: my brand be respected because I respect everybody.
- 44:58Speaker 3: I do, not because a lot of people will not know.
- 45:00Speaker 3: I don't work there, honey.
- 45:02Speaker 4: God has me in positions where I'm working with people
- 45:06Speaker 4: who are of all nationalities, of all religions, and a
- 45:10Speaker 4: lot of people got a lot to say about that.
- 45:12Speaker 4: And I'm sitting there thinking, he told me to go
- 45:14Speaker 4: out into the world. He told me to do this,
- 45:17Speaker 4: so He's gonna put me with people along that path
- 45:20Speaker 4: who is going to perfect and help me get what
- 45:22Speaker 4: I'm supposed to take this vision. And all of them
- 45:25Speaker 4: are not gonna look like me, all of them not
- 45:26Speaker 4: gonna talk like me. Someone have the nuggets that I
- 45:29Speaker 4: need to even go further in what I need to do.
- 45:33Speaker 4: I baby, listen, I sit down and wait for God
- 45:36Speaker 4: to speak to me, and then I'll work with these
- 45:38Speaker 4: people and then sometime stay for a season. Some stay
- 45:41Speaker 4: with me now. But I can't focus on that. What
- 45:44Speaker 4: do you want me to do?
- 45:45Speaker 1: So?
- 45:46Speaker 3: Ah, yeah, I don't.
- 45:46Speaker 1: It took a while. It took a long while for
- 45:50Speaker 1: us to get into this modeling world. And when the
- 45:57Speaker 1: first model came through as an African mans model, the
- 46:02Speaker 1: world was a buzz. What are some common misconceptions about
- 46:07Speaker 1: Midland that you like to dis spout?
- 46:12Speaker 4: That is easy, That is just being cute, because if
- 46:17Speaker 4: you are genuinely like when he called me to model,
- 46:22Speaker 4: I was the assistant designer. I mean I was assistant
- 46:24Speaker 4: to custom make designer Shaniko Walker of Elegant Essential.
- 46:28Speaker 3: She's in Simpsonville, but we.
- 46:30Speaker 4: Went to excuse me, We went to La Fashion Week,
- 46:36Speaker 4: went to Miami Fashion Week, we went to Coastal Fashion
- 46:39Speaker 4: Week in Alabama. I mean, she's traveling all over and
- 46:43Speaker 4: once I saw the chaos. Girl, if you could have
- 46:47Speaker 4: seen it's not easy. You saw people who were there
- 46:52Speaker 4: and they were practicing their walk. Okay, they had been
- 46:55Speaker 4: Martin for years, but they were still over there in
- 46:58Speaker 4: the mirror practicing their walk. They some of them had
- 47:01Speaker 4: model coaches with them right there, no coaching them on
- 47:04Speaker 4: the walks, coaching them on if a dress is too long,
- 47:07Speaker 4: like I was in the show Saturday. Yeah, I was
- 47:12Speaker 4: in the show Saturday. And then I realized, okay, you
- 47:15Speaker 4: need coaching on when it's a long dress.
- 47:18Speaker 3: It's a long train.
- 47:19Speaker 4: Because I almost did the Beyonce a couple of times
- 47:22Speaker 4: and my heel got caught in the hymn and I
- 47:25Speaker 4: almost fell like three or four times on the runway
- 47:28Speaker 4: in different dresses. And so I was like, I've got
- 47:30Speaker 4: to number one. I go to YouTube, I Google, I'll
- 47:34Speaker 4: watch what they say on there, and then I'll reach
- 47:36Speaker 4: out to malin coaches that I know and be like,
- 47:39Speaker 4: show us how to walk in a long evening gown where.
- 47:42Speaker 1: You might trip over it.
- 47:43Speaker 4: But yes, my heel kept getting caught in the hem
- 47:46Speaker 4: of the train, and I was like, okay, you have
- 47:49Speaker 4: to perfect this because I watched my walk and I
- 47:52Speaker 4: could see that I was uncomfortable and I could see
- 47:54Speaker 4: where my foot got caught in it. Now somebody else
- 47:57Speaker 4: was like, oh my god, that walk, and I'm like, okay, yeah,
- 48:00Speaker 4: that's what you see. But being there, I know I
- 48:02Speaker 4: saw it. Okay, you tripped U right there? Yep, your
- 48:05Speaker 4: hell got caught right there, and look at your face.
- 48:07Speaker 1: You're not a lot of times they don't even know
- 48:08Speaker 1: that something happened, and you can keep your composure and
- 48:11Speaker 1: you know that you almost they won't know if you
- 48:16Speaker 1: keep that composure.
- 48:18Speaker 4: And that's what I tell them. It doesn't matter what happened.
- 48:21Speaker 4: You keep walking. Like one time somebody heel broke. They
- 48:24Speaker 4: kept on walking. Then when they came off, they were like, y'all,
- 48:26Speaker 4: my hell. But I didn't know it until it came off.
- 48:28Speaker 4: I didn't know it until it came off because they
- 48:30Speaker 4: didn't say a word. But it's not easy. It's it's
- 48:33Speaker 4: you are cute.
- 48:34Speaker 1: The pictures are phenomenal, but it is a freaking job.
- 48:39Speaker 4: It's a lot of money. Black Domina. People don't realize
- 48:42Speaker 4: you put money in that. A lot of times. You
- 48:45Speaker 4: gotta pay to be in the show. You gotta travel
- 48:47Speaker 4: out of town, you gotta stay in the hotel. Some
- 48:51Speaker 4: of them to wear their garments, you gotta pay them
- 48:53Speaker 4: to where the I mean, it's a lot to put in,
- 48:57Speaker 4: but once you get.
- 48:58Speaker 1: In there, if if if you say a name, okay, yeah,
- 49:02Speaker 1: I want her to model for me.
- 49:03Speaker 4: If some shows that when you're allowed to choose the models,
- 49:07Speaker 4: you better hurry up and choose because those who are
- 49:09Speaker 4: established in the game, they get snatched up really quickly
- 49:12Speaker 4: because they represent so well.
- 49:15Speaker 1: And so that's what. What do you hope that your
- 49:19Speaker 1: students take away from the experiences at your school.
- 49:23Speaker 4: I want them to be fully confident in who they
- 49:27Speaker 4: are becoming. Who you are, you might not be satisfied with,
- 49:31Speaker 4: but who you becoming, maybe there's nothing stopping you from
- 49:34Speaker 4: becoming who you're supposed to be.
- 49:36Speaker 1: And so a lot of people will like, well, what
- 49:37Speaker 1: if I don't know what that is?
- 49:39Speaker 4: I say, baby, no, you're not listening to yourself, because
- 49:41Speaker 4: when you when yourself is talking to you, like it's
- 49:44Speaker 4: in my gut. When God speaking to me, it's in
- 49:46Speaker 4: my gut. If something's not right, it's in my gut.
- 49:48Speaker 4: If I'm at peace with something, then I know that
- 49:50Speaker 4: that's right. But I can feel it in my gut.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Some people are say something, they'll be like, but it's
- 49:55Speaker 4: in my gut. People will sit there and say to me,
- 49:58Speaker 4: something told me to But something told me too, I said,
- 50:02Speaker 4: and that's the problem. You're not listening to who you are,
- 50:06Speaker 4: becoming your second guessing and allowing other.
- 50:10Speaker 1: People to tell you.
- 50:11Speaker 4: I've talked to people and they'll be like, well, you
- 50:13Speaker 4: know my family, they don't think that it's going to
- 50:15Speaker 4: work out. I said, Okay, you can listen to them,
- 50:18Speaker 4: or you can be who you're supposed to be because
- 50:20Speaker 4: you're already modeling. So I'm still not understanding how you're
- 50:23Speaker 4: not doing what you're supposed to do. If you're already modeling,
- 50:26Speaker 4: you're already in shows, you're already in demand. But you're
- 50:29Speaker 4: going to stop and listen to somebody to tell you
- 50:31Speaker 4: that you can't do what you're already doing. That doesn't
- 50:33Speaker 4: make it. That doesn't make sense.
- 50:35Speaker 1: I I heard him talk about your I heard them
- 50:38Speaker 1: talk about your glitzing glamor around the world on the
- 50:41Speaker 1: runway for twenty twenty ride. Yeah, a little bit about that.
- 50:45Speaker 1: That is just so following you. You jo though, but yes,
- 50:49Speaker 1: that's what I love. Listen.
- 50:52Speaker 4: I was when we first started this thing in twenty nineteen,
- 50:58Speaker 4: the dressing room was not, like I said, now, not large.
- 51:01Speaker 4: So one of the designers was like, y'all tell me
- 51:04Speaker 4: y'all give me your feedback. And so like the dressing
- 51:07Speaker 4: rooms too small, We didn't have room to do this,
- 51:09Speaker 4: this and this. And then it hit me they can
- 51:13Speaker 4: speak from one side of the spectrum like they're speaking
- 51:16Speaker 4: as a model. Okay, I I had a meet and
- 51:20Speaker 4: I said, everybody in this business that's a designer, all model,
- 51:25Speaker 4: you got to put on your own show.
- 51:28Speaker 1: All of you.
- 51:29Speaker 4: You gotta then you. You gotta get the designers. You
- 51:31Speaker 4: gotta get the models, you gotta get the vendors, you
- 51:34Speaker 4: gotta do the lineup, you gotta get the dj you
- 51:38Speaker 4: gotta do all of that. That changed the game because
- 51:42Speaker 4: when you're on the get, you complained about a whole lot,
- 51:47Speaker 4: but when you're having to put that thing together, yes,
- 51:50Speaker 4: did you give this? And it was so just Senda Rogers.
- 51:56Speaker 4: How birthday is in April. So every first Saturday in April,
- 52:02Speaker 4: that's how she celebrates her birthday. And she has a
- 52:05Speaker 4: fashion show in Georgia because I've got models from all over.
- 52:10Speaker 4: I even got models they're not even in this state
- 52:12Speaker 4: city with me. But when we meet, we come together
- 52:16Speaker 4: on the conference call, sometimes we meet in person, but
- 52:19Speaker 4: they are still included. They still get the information about
- 52:22Speaker 4: shows and photo shoots and all that.
- 52:24Speaker 1: But she puts on a show what's next for you
- 52:26Speaker 1: and your Modeloo? Wow, I notice a lot coming up.
- 52:32Speaker 1: It is any exciting projects, so plans on horising you.
- 52:36Speaker 4: Already know the New York Fashion Week is coming up
- 52:39Speaker 4: in February. Already they already got my roster. I've got
- 52:44Speaker 4: two models from my agency that are coming with me.
- 52:47Speaker 4: Then we do that again in September. So in February
- 52:50Speaker 4: and September we always do New York Fashion Week, always
- 52:54Speaker 4: with the same production company, Beauty is Everywhere with Renee
- 52:58Speaker 4: Love Renee, and we go to New York. We said
- 53:02Speaker 4: off of that, I love it, like he had told
- 53:03Speaker 4: me one time, and it really touched me. And he said,
- 53:07Speaker 4: I have a lot of people asking.
- 53:08Speaker 1: The walk for you. And I was like, what you
- 53:10Speaker 1: were like, especially plus size models and older lady.
- 53:14Speaker 4: He was like, because you've got that classy look, you
- 53:18Speaker 4: dress them classy, which I do.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Now.
- 53:19Speaker 4: I love that glitzy, classy long hit the floor gown.
- 53:23Speaker 4: I love the sequence, I love the sparkles, all of that.
- 53:26Speaker 4: But that impressed me because, like you said, people will
- 53:29Speaker 4: watch it. I had no clue until he told me
- 53:31Speaker 4: I had no clue, so but we've got that coming up.
- 53:35Speaker 1: My twenty twenty five is bananas.
- 53:38Speaker 4: And I've got to get with you because I still
- 53:40Speaker 4: want us to have the met Gala, but I don't
- 53:42Speaker 4: want to have it wherever you are. I want us
- 53:43Speaker 4: to connect to evaporate. I want to tell my models
- 53:46Speaker 4: were about to hit the road. But that's what I'm
- 53:48Speaker 4: trying to get I'm trying to get them out of
- 53:50Speaker 4: We're in a small town. Anderson is a small town,
- 53:53Speaker 4: and Anderson has a small mindset. So when you speak
- 53:56Speaker 4: of things, they don't believe it. But I tell people
- 53:59Speaker 4: they don't have the vision that.
- 54:01Speaker 1: He gave me. It wasn't to believe, it was for me.
- 54:03Speaker 3: To carry out. And so that's what I do.
- 54:09Speaker 1: In the air. And I know that they had one
- 54:11Speaker 1: here because I've heard about it and attended. But I
- 54:15Speaker 1: heard that they had one here and it said it
- 54:17Speaker 1: was pretty awesome. Okay, just so many people that just
- 54:21Speaker 1: came out and the things that they were wearing. I
- 54:23Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, yeah, that's what I was
- 54:25Speaker 1: just it was it was phenomenal. You really got to
- 54:29Speaker 1: connect with them because it's they would definitely love your
- 54:32Speaker 1: pieces there they would love for you to be there.
- 54:35Speaker 1: I think that you would bring that that thing. I
- 54:40Speaker 1: think that's what that's what they need, that's what's missing.
- 54:44Speaker 1: They do a great job. I'm not I'm not taking
- 54:46Speaker 1: that from a great job. You're a woman. You're a
- 54:50Speaker 1: woman who knows exactly who you are. Man. I hesitate
- 54:53Speaker 1: to tell anybody you walk that catwalk and are prepared
- 54:56Speaker 1: to walk into your greatness. What is the most significant
- 55:00Speaker 1: you seen in yourself over the past years.
- 55:03Speaker 4: Oh, oh, that's such a good question. I've I've learned
- 55:08Speaker 4: to exercise. Like before, I was really impatient, I mean
- 55:13Speaker 4: really impatient to where what I thought, that's what I said,
- 55:16Speaker 4: sit down. Now, it's like we're all being cultivated. We
- 55:22Speaker 4: are all you know, when you cultivate, that means okay,
- 55:24Speaker 4: you gotta dig up the dirt, you gotta take out
- 55:26Speaker 4: the weeds, you gotta you know, water it and all
- 55:28Speaker 4: that good stuff. And it has taught me you can't
- 55:32Speaker 4: say everything you think, you can't do everything you want
- 55:35Speaker 4: to do the way.
- 55:36Speaker 1: That you operate in this business.
- 55:38Speaker 4: Because you are growing people and you are building people,
- 55:43Speaker 4: that there is a way to handle everything.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Everything.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Because it was at New York Fashion week while I
- 55:50Speaker 4: almost lost, and I remember that that was the one
- 55:52Speaker 4: time because I always tell them act professionally no matter
- 55:55Speaker 4: where you go, no matter what's going on, because you
- 55:57Speaker 4: will encounter some things.
- 55:58Speaker 1: You will encounter some people.
- 56:01Speaker 4: And they had scheduled the makeup really close to the lineup,
- 56:07Speaker 4: so I was walking at two, but some of the
- 56:10Speaker 4: makeup was like one forty. So one of my models
- 56:13Speaker 4: told another one of my models, get dressed before you
- 56:17Speaker 4: go do makeup, because I asked her that way I
- 56:20Speaker 4: could be ready to walk.
- 56:23Speaker 1: So my model did it.
- 56:25Speaker 4: The one from Greenville, and she said, can I put
- 56:28Speaker 4: my dress on and put my robe on?
- 56:30Speaker 1: I said, please, that way you'll be ready. The other
- 56:33Speaker 1: model didn't.
- 56:35Speaker 4: We walked back. After walking, she started yelling at me,
- 56:41Speaker 4: and I was like in shop, like I wasn't even
- 56:44Speaker 4: thinking like, and then I said, wait, first of all,
- 56:48Speaker 4: I know, and then it hit me and I stopped
- 56:53Speaker 4: and I just stood there because I was talking to myself,
- 56:56Speaker 4: and so the girl was still going off, and then
- 56:58Speaker 4: finally one of the assists sense to the production company.
- 57:02Speaker 4: They said, come on, we can find you somebody else
- 57:04Speaker 4: to walk for Let's see who else is walking. And
- 57:06Speaker 4: then the assistant came to me and was like, it's okay,
- 57:10Speaker 4: you know, and I was like, I had nothing to do.
- 57:12Speaker 4: She was like, you know, we know. But the parents
- 57:15Speaker 4: came to me and we accomforting me because she had
- 57:17Speaker 4: already told My mom said, nobody told her. Get dressed first,
- 57:23Speaker 4: and then you know, weigh your robe and cover up.
- 57:26Speaker 4: But it's that type of thing. Oh Jesus, some of.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Them have to leave that deepness good no matter what.
- 57:34Speaker 1: They need you And you know because you see it,
- 57:37Speaker 1: I know, and sometimes you could see it and then
- 57:41Speaker 1: and then walk because it's just a little bit too much.
- 57:45Speaker 1: You know, show the clothes, fashion the clothes. They're not
- 57:50Speaker 1: worried about your arms going like that, not unless you
- 57:54Speaker 1: have something that needs extra attention here. I mean that
- 58:00Speaker 1: it's not your body it is because if that's the case,
- 58:03Speaker 1: they can put a robot out there and let walk
- 58:06Speaker 1: on down. You are gonna keep me. I'm telling I've
- 58:15Speaker 1: seen it. I'm not a professional with it. I just
- 58:17Speaker 1: I watch and I you know, I'm like a couch potato.
- 58:21Speaker 1: I say my little things and like, oh this girl,
- 58:23Speaker 1: you shouldn't have did that. Oh I see now, you know.
- 58:26Speaker 1: So that's just me keeping it to myself. I'm not
- 58:28Speaker 1: gonna deare write anybody and tell them anything about what
- 58:31Speaker 1: they do. And they have you and other people like
- 58:33Speaker 1: you that that didn't do it. But I have a
- 58:35Speaker 1: good time being at home watching and whatnot. Now you're replaced,
- 58:40Speaker 1: I sit back and I say, I know she's gonna
- 58:41Speaker 1: get them. Yeah, I know she's gonna get it. You know,
- 58:43Speaker 1: I know something's gonna be said. But please please keep
- 58:47Speaker 1: me in mind for the September. I'm gonna be there.
- 58:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna walk with you some
- 58:53Speaker 1: tell my little February. I think it's a little bit
- 58:55Speaker 1: too late, but I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna be ready.
- 58:58Speaker 1: I had surgery earlier this year, so I know I
- 59:00Speaker 1: wasn't even ready because.
- 59:05Speaker 4: I already had one model to ask me, and I said,
- 59:07Speaker 4: they've already given me my roster, so I said, but
- 59:10Speaker 4: I'm already planning for September.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Because I do. That's my desire to have my whole
- 59:15Speaker 1: roster field with y'all.
- 59:17Speaker 4: Know I call y'all my people. I'll be claiming I
- 59:19Speaker 4: want my whole roster to be my people. Well, everybody
- 59:23Speaker 4: that's on my roster.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Is my people.
- 59:26Speaker 4: Like a lot of times, I have some sign up,
- 59:28Speaker 4: but then I you know, I have where they fill
- 59:30Speaker 4: it in. But I want everybody. I want everybody that
- 59:34Speaker 4: walks for me to be somebody I will sure.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I'm so sorry I couldn't make it.
- 59:40Speaker 4: They already this time, I was assigned to a lady
- 59:44Speaker 4: to miss their blandry and so they had already filled
- 59:47Speaker 4: up the roster or whatever. So then I just had
- 59:49Speaker 4: the two that's coming with me. But usually I do
- 59:51Speaker 4: I be able to put it out there. But once
- 59:54Speaker 4: one of my models reached out to me and I said,
- 59:55Speaker 4: they've already did the roster. I said, but that's why
- 59:58Speaker 4: I'm planning for September, so I can. I already have
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: my people so we can already be getting stuff together
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: because I want us to do the stuff that I
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: see them doing out there. They be out on the
