- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter fifteen of Religion. By attaining the supreme Krishna. Men
- 0:08Speaker 1: call the Ashwata the Banyan tree, which hath its boughs
- 0:13Speaker 1: beneath its roots on high, the ever holy tree, yea,
- 0:17Speaker 1: for its leaves are green and waving hymns which whisper truth.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Who knoweth well the Ashwata knows. All its branches shoot
- 0:28Speaker 1: to heaven and sink to earth, even as the deeds
- 0:31Speaker 1: of men, which take their birth from qualities. Its silver
- 0:36Speaker 1: sprays and blooms, and all the eager verdue of its
- 0:40Speaker 1: girth leap to quick life at touch of sun and air,
- 0:45Speaker 1: as men's lives quicken to the tempting sphere of wooing sense.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Its hanging rootlets seek the soil beneath, helping to hold
- 0:56Speaker 1: it there, as actions wrought amid the world of men
- 1:01Speaker 1: bind them by ever tightening bonds. Again, if ye knew
- 1:06Speaker 1: well the teaching of the tree, what its shape saith,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and whence it springs, and then how it must end,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and all the ills of it the acts of sharp detachment,
- 1:20Speaker 1: ye would wet and cleave the clinging, snaky roots, and
- 1:25Speaker 1: lay this Ashwata of sins like low to set new
- 1:30Speaker 1: growths up, springing to that happier sky, which they who
- 1:36Speaker 1: reach shall have no day to die, nor fade away,
- 1:41Speaker 1: nor fall to him, I mean Father in first, who
- 1:46Speaker 1: made the mystery of old creation. For to him come
- 1:51Speaker 1: day from passion and from dreams, who break away, who
- 1:56Speaker 1: part the bonds constraining them to flesh, and him, the
- 2:00Speaker 1: highest worshipping away, no longer grow at mercy of what
- 2:06Speaker 1: breeze of summer pleasure stirs the sleeping trees, what blast
- 2:11Speaker 1: of tempest tears them bow and stem to the eternal
- 2:16Speaker 1: world pass such as these, Another sun gleams there, another moon,
- 2:21Speaker 1: another light, a light which none shall lack, whose eyes
- 2:26Speaker 1: once see, For those return no more. They have attained
- 2:32Speaker 1: my uttermost abode. When in this world of manifested life,
- 2:38Speaker 1: the undying spirit, setting forth from me, taketh on form.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It draweth to itself, from Being's storehouse, which containeth all
- 2:50Speaker 1: senses and intellect, the sovereign soul, Thus entering the flesh
- 2:56Speaker 1: or quitting it gathers these up as the wind gathers
- 3:01Speaker 1: sense blowing above the flower banks, ear and eye, and
- 3:06Speaker 1: touch and taste and smelling. These it takes yeah and
- 3:12Speaker 1: a sentient mind, linking itself to sense, thinks. So the
- 3:19Speaker 1: unenlightened ones mark not that spirit when he goes or comes,
- 3:25Speaker 1: nor when he takes his pleasure in the form conjoined
- 3:28Speaker 1: with qualities. But those see plain who have the eyes
- 3:33Speaker 1: to see Holy Soul's Sea, which strive there too enlightened,
- 3:40Speaker 1: they behold that spirit in themselves. But foolish ones, even
- 3:46Speaker 1: though they strive, discern, not having hearts unkindled, ill informed,
- 3:54Speaker 1: No two from me shineth the gathered glory of the sun,
- 3:59Speaker 1: which lightens all the world. From me, the moon draws
- 4:04Speaker 1: silvery beams and fire fierce loveliness. I penetrate the clay
- 4:11Speaker 1: and lend all shapes their living force. I glide into
- 4:15Speaker 1: the plant its root leaf bloom, to make the woodland green,
- 4:20Speaker 1: with springing sap, becoming whiteal warmth. I glow in glad
- 4:26Speaker 1: respiring frames, and pass with outward and with inward breadth,
- 4:32Speaker 1: to feed the body with all meats. For in this
- 4:37Speaker 1: world being is twofold, the divided one, the undivided one.
- 4:44Speaker 1: All things that live are the divided that which sits apart,
- 4:49Speaker 1: the undivided. Higher still is one, the highest holding all,
- 4:56Speaker 1: whose name is Lord, the eternal, sovereign firm, who feels
- 5:01Speaker 1: all worlds, sustaining them and dwelling thus beyond divided life
- 5:07Speaker 1: and undivided I am called of men invade us, God Supreme,
- 5:15Speaker 1: the Purushotama, who knows me. Thus with mind unclouded, knoweth all,
- 5:22Speaker 1: dear Prince, and with his whole soul ever worshipeth me.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Now is the sacred secret mystery declared to THEE who
- 5:33Speaker 1: comprehendeth this hath wisdom. He is quit of works in bliss.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Here ends Chapter fifteen.
