- 0:04Speaker 1: but hailing from the city of Sins.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Put your hands together for Jamison Welch.
- 0:08Speaker 1: And in this corner, standing at five foot ten, weighing
- 0:11Speaker 1: in at pound and coming to us from his super
- 0:15Speaker 1: secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona. Put your
- 0:18Speaker 1: hands together for Luis Montemao.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Thank you. Welcome back to the episode of X Commedy Podcast.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Of course, on one a half of the show, I'm Jamison,
- 0:32Speaker 2: as always from my Louis Luise. What's going home? Man?
- 0:35Speaker 3: What's up, Jamison?
- 0:36Speaker 4: We're here for another shorty edition. Episode fifty is where
- 0:40Speaker 4: we're at now. So the show has come a long
- 0:42Speaker 4: long way from the early days, which is awesome. But yeah,
- 0:45Speaker 4: we're gonna keep it to just a couple of really
- 0:47Speaker 4: short topics. The first one I wanted to start with
- 0:49Speaker 4: is that we just got an exciting announcement that Telfy
- 0:53Speaker 4: Malpez is coming back to the ring in August and
- 0:56Speaker 4: Roly Romero is gonna be his opponent. So we've all
- 1:01Speaker 4: been we've both been pretty stoked about you know how,
- 1:03Speaker 4: the summer has been going a lot of fights almost
- 1:06Speaker 4: every weekend for the last you know whatever, like five
- 1:09Speaker 4: six weeks or something like that.
- 1:11Speaker 3: And this getting announced in June.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I've been right in before the Canelo fight and September
- 1:16Speaker 4: is really awesome, so I'm kind of excited to see
- 1:19Speaker 4: what else can be filled in before that and then.
- 1:21Speaker 3: In like October November.
- 1:23Speaker 4: But yeah, I'm shout out to to Tao for coming
- 1:28Speaker 4: back so soon after fighting in January. We've also kind
- 1:32Speaker 4: of been down on how how fighters don't fight as
- 1:36Speaker 4: often as they could. But yeah, I think this is
- 1:38Speaker 4: good news for the sport and good news for an
- 1:40Speaker 4: already great news for an already good year for boxing.
- 1:44Speaker 3: How do you feel about this coming up?
- 1:45Speaker 2: It's good. It's good news. All the fights are better,
- 1:48Speaker 2: you know the motto, man, the more fights are better.
- 1:51Speaker 2: It's one of those things to where even though I
- 1:55Speaker 2: don't know the purpose of the fight per se, it's
- 1:59Speaker 2: a good fight to have. I don't know whoever wins it,
- 2:01Speaker 2: what do they get or whatever however lose it's in
- 2:03Speaker 2: really bad shape, but it's one of those things where
- 2:05Speaker 2: it's a good fight. You can put a good card
- 2:07Speaker 2: around it. It could be an event for a weekend.
- 2:09Speaker 2: That's cool. We need more of that, so we're not
- 2:11Speaker 2: playing at all. I don't know if it's official official yet.
- 2:14Speaker 2: By the time this airs it should be. But all
- 2:17Speaker 2: that being said, it's good that we're getting these kind
- 2:19Speaker 2: of matchups. We need these as much as possible for
- 2:23Speaker 2: the second half of the year.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and yeah, you're right, it's not a mega fight
- 2:27Speaker 4: by any means. But I always want to make it
- 2:30Speaker 4: clear that Tale Femo after that fight or during the
- 2:33Speaker 4: fight with Shaker Stevenson, he wasn't snoozing in the ring.
- 2:36Speaker 4: He wasn't unprepared, you know, he came ready to fight.
- 2:40Speaker 4: He just didn't have it that night. And Shakhor is
- 2:41Speaker 4: the guy. So I definitely think that tail Fee most
- 2:45Speaker 4: still a draw, and I'm glad that he's coming back.
- 2:48Speaker 4: So I actually looked looked this up. He has this
- 2:50Speaker 4: weird pattern since like twenty twenty two, once boxing came
- 2:53Speaker 4: back after the RONA fully that he fought twice in
- 2:58Speaker 4: one year next year if I want, then twice in
- 3:00Speaker 4: one year next year if ilt what and like he's
- 3:03Speaker 4: stuck to that pattern consistently, including twenty twenty six, which
- 3:06Speaker 4: is kind of weird.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I don't know what.
- 3:08Speaker 4: That's about, or you know, how fights get negotiator how
- 3:11Speaker 4: often blah blah blah. But he's a guy that should
- 3:14Speaker 4: be there twice a year because he looks great in
- 3:15Speaker 4: the ring. He's a very active, exciting fighter.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 3:20Speaker 4: He's lost a step himself as a boxer. Like I said,
- 3:23Speaker 4: I think Chakora was just better that night.
- 3:26Speaker 3: And yeah, I mean I think that.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Him fighting Roly and we have another card and having
- 3:34Speaker 4: a recognizable name still hasn't against Puerto Rican, so he
- 3:37Speaker 4: has a lot of support from the Puerto Rican people.
- 3:40Speaker 3: It's only good news for the sport.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Now Roly, who I do like personally, does this man
- 3:47Speaker 4: have any chance?
- 3:49Speaker 2: I mean, I think it made fight interesting, Like I
- 3:52Speaker 2: think he made fight close. Him winning would be a surprise.
- 3:55Speaker 2: He won't be favored. Why going into the fight, he
- 3:58Speaker 2: definitely won't be favored, but he's not necess in it
- 4:00Speaker 2: for that, Like he's he's the guy that you make
- 4:03Speaker 2: good fights with to get to the next fight, which
- 4:05Speaker 2: is fine, which is we need those boxers. He's a
- 4:08Speaker 2: quality opponent, but he won't be favored, so let's you know,
- 4:12Speaker 2: let's kind of be mindful of that. With that being said,
- 4:15Speaker 2: it would not surprise me if he won, I wouldn't
- 4:18Speaker 2: be shocked if he won. But with that being said,
- 4:21Speaker 2: he won't be favored. He's gonna have to work very hard.
- 4:23Speaker 2: He's have to train very hard. AlSi we got to
- 4:26Speaker 2: kind of consider how serious is he, Like is he
- 4:29Speaker 2: coming into this trying to win or he trying to
- 4:30Speaker 2: get a checker? Two different methods there, two different mindsets there.
- 4:34Speaker 2: So he'll be very interesting to see which role we get,
- 4:37Speaker 2: but come up with a big loss. You never know how
- 4:40Speaker 2: those kind of performances impact somebody. You never quite know.
- 4:45Speaker 2: You just never know what happens when you get out
- 4:49Speaker 2: classed like that. And like you said, it was nothing
- 4:52Speaker 2: to be ashamed of. I mean, he's LOSTO a better fighter.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It is. It happens. However, with all that being said,
- 4:58Speaker 2: this is another big time in terms of light not
- 5:01Speaker 2: pay per view, but all oz bey on it. People
- 5:04Speaker 2: will be watching. I can't really have a second poor
- 5:08Speaker 2: performances must the lesser fighter this time around. So one
- 5:12Speaker 2: of those ones where you gotta take care of business
- 5:14Speaker 2: because if you don't, he gets kind of ugly going forward.
- 5:17Speaker 2: So we'll definitely see. I can't wait though.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a really good point that I didn't kind
- 5:23Speaker 4: of think it right off the bat. I did say
- 5:25Speaker 4: the tel Femo. I don't think he's lost it. I
- 5:26Speaker 4: don't think he's over the hill or anything like that
- 5:28Speaker 4: or was bad in that fight.
- 5:29Speaker 3: But yeah, you never know.
- 5:31Speaker 4: We've seen it many times how somebody can come from
- 5:33Speaker 4: a loss and they just never they're never the same,
- 5:35Speaker 4: you know, to be to put it quite clearly, But yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 4: and you know, I think, like I said, Roly is
- 5:43Speaker 4: a talented guy, but yeah, I just don't see him
- 5:45Speaker 4: with the same kind of speed, footwork and just you
- 5:47Speaker 4: know power that that tel Femo has had. I think
- 5:51Speaker 4: he definitely got that win against Ryan because Ryan was
- 5:54Speaker 4: also very snoozy. I did want Roly to win that fight,
- 5:57Speaker 4: and I'm glad that he did, but.
- 6:00Speaker 3: It wasn't upset as well. You know, I don't believe
- 6:02Speaker 3: he was favored against Ryan Garcia.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Honestly.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Another thing, too, is speaking about how often people fight.
- 6:08Speaker 4: This is the first time we've seen Roly back since
- 6:10Speaker 4: May of twenty twenty five, during that terrible New York
- 6:14Speaker 4: Times Square event where he beat Ryan Garcia. And I'll
- 6:17Speaker 4: give you credit for this, Jamison, because you're the one
- 6:19Speaker 4: that said it that Rolie is not the kind of
- 6:20Speaker 4: guy that should be fighting once a year, right.
- 6:22Speaker 2: He needs to be fighting three times a year because
- 6:24Speaker 2: here's the thing. He has a weird kind of cult
- 6:26Speaker 2: following that he fights, people will tune in and watch.
- 6:30Speaker 2: People know who he is. He's fought big names, So
- 6:33Speaker 2: he's the guy that should be fighting as much as
- 6:35Speaker 2: possible because I wanted to make a lot of money.
- 6:37Speaker 2: But two, staying active, use the opportunity to get an
- 6:41Speaker 2: upset win. And once you get upset win, all bets
- 6:43Speaker 2: are off. So to me, he should be as active
- 6:45Speaker 2: as possible in my opinion.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'll go ahead and say that I'm good
- 6:50Speaker 4: with either guy winning. You know, I expect to tail
- 6:53Speaker 4: female win, but if Roley takes it, I'm perfectly happy.
- 6:55Speaker 3: I'm not gonna be here like, screw that guy. He sucks,
- 6:58Speaker 3: blah blah blah or anything like that.
- 7:00Speaker 2: You know.
- 7:01Speaker 4: The thing that I don't want is a worring ass fight.
- 7:03Speaker 4: I want the both of these guys to give it.
- 7:05Speaker 4: They're all and you know, come, come, ready to work
- 7:08Speaker 4: in the ring. So as long as we get that,
- 7:09Speaker 4: I'm very happy. And again to add to the roster
- 7:14Speaker 4: of upcoming fights, it has been great because this weekend,
- 7:18Speaker 4: if you listen to this one, it airs we've got
- 7:19Speaker 4: Xander's Ace versus Boots. And then weekend after that already
- 7:24Speaker 4: July fourth and we got Abdulla Mason back July was
- 7:27Speaker 4: looking a little, you know, less less active.
- 7:29Speaker 3: August two is.
- 7:30Speaker 4: A little a little quiet, so it's a good opportunity
- 7:33Speaker 4: to start plugging in some some more matches. As you
- 7:36Speaker 4: had said, it's about two to three months is a
- 7:39Speaker 4: good time to announce a fight before.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Right with in terms of like marketing and promo.
- 7:42Speaker 2: It also depends on who's marketing, so some guys can
- 7:45Speaker 2: need six weeks and you're good. But for the most part,
- 7:48Speaker 2: three months ideal. You can get away with two, but
- 7:51Speaker 2: three months is ideal because also a lot of times
- 7:53Speaker 2: you got to sell the building, so sometimes it takes
- 7:56Speaker 2: ninety days to sell out or sell most of the
- 7:59Speaker 2: specially have like an NBA arena with life fifteen to
- 8:01Speaker 2: twenty thousand seats, you might need seventy five to ninety
- 8:04Speaker 2: days to sell those seats, so that to be part
- 8:06Speaker 2: of it as well as well.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Right, So let's see, I mean, so far, I've I've
- 8:12Speaker 4: been very very happy with with twenty twenty six in
- 8:14Speaker 4: terms of boxing so far, and yeah, we always want
- 8:17Speaker 4: more fights, but I also don't want to be greedy.
- 8:20Speaker 3: We've gotten some good, you know, some.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Quality fights, and we got some coming up more on
- 8:25Speaker 4: the schedule that I'm really stuck about. And of course
- 8:27Speaker 4: the big, the big daddy of them all is Canelo
- 8:29Speaker 4: in September. Everything is kind of plugging itself around that.
- 8:33Speaker 3: So let's see moving.
- 8:36Speaker 4: On to another fight that something that hasn't been officially announced,
- 8:40Speaker 4: has been rumored talked about a lot. Gervanta Tank Davis
- 8:44Speaker 4: just announced that he is signed or or has is
- 8:47Speaker 4: going to be trained by Jose Ben Tovita, Senior David,
- 8:52Speaker 4: David's father, and obviously a bit of it is Junior's father.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Duh.
- 8:57Speaker 4: No fight has been announced. The rumor is that it's
- 9:00Speaker 4: aiming for August. You know, a lot of different potential
- 9:05Speaker 4: matchups have been throwing out. People have sad Lomachenko, Shakoor,
- 9:08Speaker 4: Devin Haney, blah blah blah.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Nothing's really there now I have to mention.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Let's see, last time we saw Tank was in March
- 9:16Speaker 4: twenty twenty five against Lamart Roach, that infamous draw and
- 9:20Speaker 4: most of the reasons the Tank has not been in
- 9:22Speaker 4: the ring hasn't been because of injuries or boxing, it's
- 9:25Speaker 4: because of legal issues. You know, that man has been
- 9:28Speaker 4: put his hands on women many times, allegedly, allegedly, allegedly,
- 9:32Speaker 4: allegedly has has you know, don't put his hands on women, allegedly,
- 9:38Speaker 4: But that's honestly what's been keeping out of the ring
- 9:40Speaker 4: of the spotlight.
- 9:42Speaker 3: How likely do you think it is for.
- 9:44Speaker 4: Tank to come back, and how much excitement is it
- 9:46Speaker 4: for their willa staff people following him and is he
- 9:49Speaker 4: still a big name in these days.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Jameson if we know box the way we know boxers,
- 9:53Speaker 2: there's a good chance he needs the money. Well, I'm
- 9:55Speaker 2: not trying to be funny. We know how boxers go.
- 9:58Speaker 2: It sucks to say it that, but there's a high
- 10:02Speaker 2: quality chance that he needs to be fighting because he
- 10:06Speaker 2: needs the money. If he does have legal situations and
- 10:10Speaker 2: other situations going on, then there's a good chance he
- 10:13Speaker 2: needs those funds to you know, keep that up. You
- 10:18Speaker 2: mentioned some things he's had in his personal life. Those
- 10:22Speaker 2: are things that are unfortunate, but they are there. Can't
- 10:24Speaker 2: ignore them, can't downplay them. They are what they are.
- 10:28Speaker 2: With that being said, it is good to see him back.
- 10:30Speaker 2: He is a one of the stars of boxing. He's
- 10:33Speaker 2: one of the few guys that can sell out an arena,
- 10:35Speaker 2: and he has a particular fighting style that people like.
- 10:39Speaker 2: So it is a good thing that if he's back
- 10:42Speaker 2: and he's actually switching up the training, that means he's
- 10:45Speaker 2: actually serious by his craft. The one thing I think
- 10:48Speaker 2: too many boxers do is they keep thinking status quote
- 10:52Speaker 2: when there needs to be a change, and a lot
- 10:54Speaker 2: of times their corner. They don't want to switch up
- 10:57Speaker 2: the corner of the training because who brought them, That's
- 11:01Speaker 2: who they came here with, That's who they came up with.
- 11:03Speaker 2: So they don't want to upset anyone. They don't want to,
- 11:06Speaker 2: you know, piss anyone off. They don't want to do
- 11:09Speaker 2: anything like that. But sometimes sometimes necessary, man. Sometimes you know,
- 11:15Speaker 2: it's one of those things to where even though you
- 11:20Speaker 2: have trust with someone, even though you've accomplished great things
- 11:24Speaker 2: with someone, there comes a point in time where you
- 11:27Speaker 2: have to outsource certain things because there's a ceiling and
- 11:33Speaker 2: that's hit. Sometimes there's a relationship that even though you
- 11:37Speaker 2: guys are on great terms and you've known each other forever,
- 11:40Speaker 2: sometimes you need someone else take you to a different level.
- 11:43Speaker 2: If you look at tanks last performance, you can make
- 11:46Speaker 2: argument that he wasn't necessarily prepared for that fight one
- 11:49Speaker 2: hundred percent. You can make argument that he wasn't the
- 11:52Speaker 2: best fighter that night if you wanted to do so.
- 11:55Speaker 2: So I think switching up the training and the corner
- 11:58Speaker 2: might be some good because that was very close last fight.
- 12:02Speaker 2: That fight could easily win the other way, and that
- 12:05Speaker 2: changed everything. So I'm glad to see the initiative and
- 12:09Speaker 2: the urgency from Tank.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Sure, and speaking for myself, you know, I I'll admit admittedly,
- 12:15Speaker 4: for me, it's very difficult to remove you know, the
- 12:18Speaker 4: personal stuff from you know, the boxing and the fandom,
- 12:21Speaker 4: et cetera. You know, it's very very difficult for me
- 12:23Speaker 4: to continue being a fan of somebody with those allegations
- 12:27Speaker 4: against them. Now, you and I have also kind of said,
- 12:32Speaker 4: you mostly that you got to keep fighting, you gotta
- 12:34Speaker 4: stay active, you gotta stay in the spotlight, or you know,
- 12:36Speaker 4: boxing will pass you by. Anything can happen, you know,
- 12:39Speaker 4: there could be another name this and that I'm kind
- 12:41Speaker 4: of feeling like personally that we're here with Tank. I mean, yes,
- 12:46Speaker 4: he's still a recognizable name. He's got a fighting style
- 12:48Speaker 4: and he's always been a draw, but he's not ranked
- 12:51Speaker 4: with any of the commissions. He's had his personal legal issues.
- 12:55Speaker 4: I think it's time for boxing to move away from
- 12:57Speaker 4: Tank Davis. You know, we have a lot of names
- 12:59Speaker 4: that we've talked about in the last just say, this
- 13:01Speaker 4: past whatever, like twelve months, potential new stars, a lot
- 13:06Speaker 4: of guys.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Lamar Roach definitely has made a name for himself. I
- 13:10Speaker 3: don't know. I mean, it's hard for me to say
- 13:11Speaker 3: that we.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Really need a guy like that back with those personal
- 13:15Speaker 4: things going on for me. I mean, what's your taken
- 13:17Speaker 4: on is seeing somebody that is a fan of the
- 13:18Speaker 4: sport wants to see the sport succeed. But like you said,
- 13:20Speaker 4: you know, there's things you can't ignore and can't downplay.
- 13:23Speaker 2: So I separate the personal life from the sport life,
- 13:26Speaker 2: and that everybody's me and I don't expect everyone to be.
- 13:29Speaker 2: But I separate the sport, encore, on field entering, whatever
- 13:35Speaker 2: you want to call it, from people's personal life. If
- 13:38Speaker 2: what you're saying is correct, that means we have never
- 13:41Speaker 2: seen the last ten plus fights of Floyd. If that
- 13:46Speaker 2: was a case, allegedly, we would not have seen Mike
- 13:48Speaker 2: Tyson after ninety one, and then countless others. I mean
- 13:55Speaker 2: those are ones we know of. There's countless others who've
- 13:57Speaker 2: had similar allegation and similar problem as well. I try
- 14:03Speaker 2: not to get involved with off the field, off the
- 14:05Speaker 2: court stuff, especially since we weren't there. I don't know
- 14:09Speaker 2: what happened, how it happened. I hear reports, I know allegations,
- 14:14Speaker 2: I know of what was said or was all that stuff,
- 14:18Speaker 2: but we weren't there. So I try to stay away
- 14:20Speaker 2: from all that because at the end of the day,
- 14:23Speaker 2: in a lot of these situations, a lot of stuff
- 14:28Speaker 2: happens that we don't know the full story on, and
- 14:32Speaker 2: I try to stay away from that because once we
- 14:34Speaker 2: start saying, hey, this is bad, this is bad, we
- 14:36Speaker 2: got to keep that up with everybody, and I don't
- 14:38Speaker 2: think we're prepared to do that as a whole. So
- 14:41Speaker 2: I just try to separate people's personal life and people's
- 14:44Speaker 2: boxing life as much as possible. I try a personally
- 14:48Speaker 2: that does me. I don't expect everybody, I don't hold
- 14:50Speaker 2: everybody to that typical standard, but I try to separate
- 14:54Speaker 2: both because when I look at boxing, boxing definitely need
- 14:57Speaker 2: the same, Davis. It definitely does. The one thing that
- 15:01Speaker 2: boxing needs is someone that people talk about when their
- 15:04Speaker 2: fighter coming up, when the fights take place, who they're
- 15:07Speaker 2: going to fight next. As many of those guys as
- 15:10Speaker 2: possible you can get it, you have to get them. Also,
- 15:14Speaker 2: boxing doesn't have a collective bargain agreement. There's no rules
- 15:17Speaker 2: on your outside behavior, so there's no oh, if you
- 15:22Speaker 2: get this, you get suspended for this amount of time.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Doesn't quite work that way. I'm not saying it's right,
- 15:27Speaker 2: but it doesn't work that way. There's no rules in boxing, unfortunately,
- 15:31Speaker 2: so there would not be a grounds to take to
- 15:35Speaker 2: have him step away from boxing and ever fight again.
- 15:37Speaker 2: That would hurt boxing more than it helps in my opinion.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Sure, and I definitely respect your opinion, and I'm not
- 15:43Speaker 3: arguing the point.
- 15:44Speaker 4: I'm just trying to give our different perspectives here and
- 15:46Speaker 4: where I'm coming from. You know, I've always feel people
- 15:49Speaker 4: say a lot separate the boxer from or the sorry
- 15:52Speaker 4: the personal from the sporting world the professional world, and
- 15:56Speaker 4: people say separate the art from the artist. So that's
- 15:59Speaker 4: I kind of feel like I'm going the other way
- 16:01Speaker 4: where I can do the same thing separate the art
- 16:03Speaker 4: from the artists in the other direction, saying well, I
- 16:06Speaker 4: might like this person, I might be a fan, but
- 16:08Speaker 4: I can't support them because of everything goes on outside
- 16:11Speaker 4: the ring, outside of the recording studio, et cetera. You
- 16:13Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. I think that's valid. Two for
- 16:15Speaker 4: anybody that says I would never tell anybody they should
- 16:18Speaker 4: absolutely support somebody that they don't feel comfortable supporting, or
- 16:21Speaker 4: you know that if they're feeling, you know, just that
- 16:24Speaker 4: this person that is just kind of their personal life
- 16:26Speaker 4: is just kind of makes them pushes them away.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Like that's understandable too.
- 16:31Speaker 4: So I think for me, my biggest thing is that
- 16:34Speaker 4: you say that the sport needs Tank Davis. I just
- 16:36Speaker 4: think the sport more so needs more guys that bring
- 16:39Speaker 4: what Tank brings to the to the ring, you know,
- 16:42Speaker 4: like you said, excited about the fights coming up and
- 16:46Speaker 4: this and that, and I think that we have just
- 16:49Speaker 4: kind of put our eggs in too few baskets. I
- 16:51Speaker 4: guess if that's if that makes sense, And that's just
- 16:54Speaker 4: been an ongoing thing with where we don't have enough champs,
- 16:56Speaker 4: we don't have enough stars. We've talked about this before.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I'm not breaking any news. I just kind of think that,
- 17:02Speaker 4: especially after the year, we've seen the Great Fight, we've
- 17:05Speaker 4: seen the big names and then the up and comers.
- 17:08Speaker 4: I just think that there's there's got to be room
- 17:10Speaker 4: for more upcoming stars that you know, just don't don't
- 17:14Speaker 4: have those extra factors that baggage, I guess.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Is what I'm trying to say that we know of right, yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 3: we know, sure, of course.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yeah, That's the thing that we have to be very
- 17:23Speaker 2: careful of because once we start saying, hey, this person
- 17:26Speaker 2: won't do this, that person won't do that, you start
- 17:28Speaker 2: finding out stuff and you're like, damn, that's worse than
- 17:30Speaker 2: who we're talking about. So I always try to caution
- 17:34Speaker 2: on that because these people just like you and I,
- 17:36Speaker 2: and these people have behaviors and these people have emotions
- 17:39Speaker 2: just like everybody else. So I try to be very
- 17:42Speaker 2: careful when it comes to people outside lives and a
- 17:46Speaker 2: lot of stuff what comes out the full story don't
- 17:49Speaker 2: always come out. So that's why I always try to
- 17:51Speaker 2: be careful when comes to that. However, you have to
- 17:55Speaker 2: develop stars, and right now boxing's issue is they're putting
- 18:01Speaker 2: on fights, but they're not developing starves like they once did.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I think that's the biggest issue with the sport. There's
- 18:07Speaker 2: excuse me, there's not enough boxers at the moment where
- 18:11Speaker 2: the casual person is like, Hey, I'm flying out to Vegas,
- 18:15Speaker 2: I'm flying out to LA I'm flying out to New
- 18:18Speaker 2: York or wherever the fight is, and we're gonna be
- 18:21Speaker 2: here for the weekend for the fight. We don't have
- 18:23Speaker 2: enough of those boxers anymore. We used to. There was
- 18:26Speaker 2: a time when we did have several boxers like Damn
- 18:29Speaker 2: Oscar fighting in Vegas. Oh, Mike's fighting in Vegas, or
- 18:32Speaker 2: Floyd or whomever fight in Vegas. Let's go or whomever.
- 18:36Speaker 2: We don't have that. We have to get back to
- 18:38Speaker 2: that because that's the only way the sport grows. When
- 18:41Speaker 2: people watch, that's cool, But you gotta get people to watch.
- 18:44Speaker 2: You gotta gt people to go to the fights. You
- 18:46Speaker 2: gotta get people to be loud when at the fight.
- 18:49Speaker 2: You gotta get goople to buy a merchandise. It's a
- 18:51Speaker 2: culative effort, and unfortunately, boxing itself has a poor job
- 18:56Speaker 2: of that. And there's a lot of different fact it's
- 18:58Speaker 2: not the boxer's fault. It's not a lot of factors
- 19:00Speaker 2: that go into that. So that's why it would be
- 19:03Speaker 2: very hard press see me just boot somebody away that
- 19:08Speaker 2: does have that factory, because right now we really need
- 19:12Speaker 2: to get more guys that are one really good fight.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I think sometimes we overrate guys because we want to
- 19:17Speaker 2: see them do well, but they're not as good as
- 19:19Speaker 2: we think they are. Well. I think we added to
- 19:21Speaker 2: the point where we have we developed more stars or
- 19:24Speaker 2: guys turn into a star, and that's something that we've
- 19:27Speaker 2: we've missed more often than not lately.
- 19:31Speaker 4: And just for the listeners here, you know, I wanted
- 19:33Speaker 4: to bring up this conversation.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I'm not trying to.
- 19:35Speaker 4: Be like rage baby, clickbaity anything like that. That's something
- 19:38Speaker 4: that we have too much of these days. I just
- 19:40Speaker 4: personally feel as a fan of the sport, you know,
- 19:42Speaker 4: and as a fan of a person who admires boxers
- 19:45Speaker 4: like I admire boxers more than any other athlete in
- 19:46Speaker 4: the world, any of any other sport. I know, I
- 19:50Speaker 4: think these are conversations that just need to be had
- 19:52Speaker 4: of how much do we need you know, uh, you
- 19:56Speaker 4: know somebody that in the sport to become a star
- 20:00Speaker 4: that uh, but yeah, it's just something that we want
- 20:02Speaker 4: the conversation to keep going. If you have any thoughts
- 20:04Speaker 4: on this, you know, comments, let us know, and you know,
- 20:07Speaker 4: keep it respectful. I like to think you know, everything
- 20:09Speaker 4: that we're saying, we're not being you know, shitty about
- 20:11Speaker 4: or anything like that. We're having a respectful dialogue that
- 20:15Speaker 4: I think is productive for the sport. So do you disagree,
- 20:18Speaker 4: That's perfectly cool, but you know, just let us know
- 20:21Speaker 4: in a in a set of respectful and positive way.
- 20:26Speaker 4: So yeah, we'll see what happens, and we'll just keep
- 20:28Speaker 4: on the news and we'll just keep on what's keep
- 20:29Speaker 4: checking on what's going on with Tank Davis and other fighters.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Like I said, this weekend, we're gonna have Xanders Ayas
- 20:35Speaker 4: versus Boots Ennis and then Abdulla Mason back on July fourth,
- 20:39Speaker 4: and uh, yeah, it's gonna have been a very good
- 20:41Speaker 4: year for boxing and I think we have a lot
- 20:44Speaker 4: more to come, and the Mixed Company podcast is going
- 20:46Speaker 4: to be here with you also do all of it.
- 20:48Speaker 4: So Jamison, we can people find you on social.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Media on Twitter at the Jamison the Boots in this fight.
- 20:54Speaker 2: It's interesting. Uh it's put up a shout time for
- 20:57Speaker 2: me with him. I've heard a lot of talker the
- 20:59Speaker 2: last off, I gotta see the shit, man, Like I
- 21:02Speaker 2: get tired of hearing our hype. I gotta see it.
- 21:04Speaker 2: If I don't see it, then it's kind of like
- 21:06Speaker 2: the same old story. But he has that's a guy
- 21:08Speaker 2: that has actual star. He could be a star. He
- 21:12Speaker 2: can be a guy. Or people go to New York,
- 21:14Speaker 2: go to Jersey, go to Philly, watch fight. But we
- 21:17Speaker 2: gotta see it. Man. There's a lot of hype. He
- 21:19Speaker 2: has a lot of good people behind him that hype
- 21:21Speaker 2: him up. But we gotta see it, man, We gotta
- 21:23Speaker 2: see it all right.
