- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody Brian Smith here with the IM team series and your daily influence and some of the work that I have been doing lately is some AI integration and some AI coaching for some clients and it's interesting because there is so much out there I will tell you that AI.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Artificial intelligence is like the wild west.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: It reminds me of the early internet days in 1999 and 2000 and what we went through with Y2K and in some of the other really quick leap forward technology things that we have faced as individuals in AI as right.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: there.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: And responsible AI in smart management means a lot of things, but the first thing is just to be smart about it.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: And as you know, smart to us is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: And you can apply that to how you introduce yourself to and utilize AI to keep it positive and keep it responsible.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: Understand what you want to use it for.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: Specifically, why you're using it and what it's doing for you, measure what it's doing for you, is it saving you time?
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: Is it creating opportunities?
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: What opportunities is it creating?
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Is what you're asking it to do ethical?
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Is it attainable?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: And what relevance does it have in supporting you?
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: And what relevance might it take away from who you are and your core values?
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: Allowing AI to do work for you,
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: It might seem almost like you're cheating and you can challenge yourself using smart being specific, ask yourself questions, how and why you're using it and is it the right time to have the time to actually put into AI to understand what it's doing for you.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it can make you faster.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it can speed up the analysis of things.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: It can even give you output very quickly sometimes, but is it accurate?
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: Does it reflect who you are or your voice?
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Does it support what your core values are and your mission is?
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: Are you using it as a tool, as a crutch, or are you allowing it to do all the work for you?
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: We could ask yourselves these questions.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: And challenge yourself in a very smart way.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: on what AI is to you.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I like to think of it as an amplifier to human judgment.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: And what do I mean by that?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's a tool that enhances our human capacity and our human capability.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't replace humans.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: take away from humans with smart management.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: It means we use it to do things like analyzing data trends, identifying opportunities.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: We might not see for example comparing different documents or reading through communications we've had and pulling out tasks or ideas or
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: thought moments that we might not have picked up during a conversation.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: I have it tag along in my meetings and then I get to go look at that meeting again through AI and ask for an interpretation.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: Did I miss anything?
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: What is your interpretation of the meeting?
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: What tasks did we agree to?
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not replacing me.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's helping me to remember and be more thoughtful about following up and thoughtful about what happened during a meeting.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: You can also ask it to suggest.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: ideas suggest task suggest things that it might be able to pick up on.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: You can have it going to research where you need things done.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: It can read faster, summarize those things.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: When you get that feedback, don't take it for a betem.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: Ask for reference points.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: Ask it to show you the details that support its findings.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Challenge AI to look at itself.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: And always, always leave your AI models under human direction.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: Challenge what AI is giving you by asking AI questions about what it gives you.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: ask what it's understanding is of the questions you've asked, what it's understanding is of what you're using information for, because within AI, there can be ethical and bias issues.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: Remember, algorithms are written by humans, which means that there can be bias embedded in the algorithms that can be bias embedded in the data sets.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: So the smart principle of data-driven decision-making is a perfect place for us to underscore this and to challenge AI to use it in the best possible way.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: It does support accuracy, does support speed, but leadership ensures that we align our company values and ourself and our strategies with the tool.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: require transparency.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: What does that mean?
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: It means that if you use it, tell people you're using it.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Don't let it be your voice and not tell people that you're using AI to replace yourself.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's not an ethical thing.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's like having somebody else do your work for you.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to clearly communicate about where AI is used.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: Clearly communicate why it's being
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Is it just helping us understand what we're reading?
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Is it giving us talking points or is it talking for us?
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: If it helps us to make decisions, it's really important that we understand how our culture is engaging with technology.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: Is AI one of our pillars now of our culture?
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe that it should be, I think it should be a crutch of our culture.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: It could be a place for us to sit, have conversations, be transparent about those conversations, but using AI to help us to communicate better, to communicate more clearly, to ask better questions so that we can come up with better conclusions, better plans, better strategies, better tactics.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: When using AI to streamline, let's say, recruitment or performance tracking,
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's really important that we understand or that the employees understand the criteria that's being used.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: So what that means is that if you're introducing AI into any model that affects others, it's important that those others understand how AI was fed that data and what it was used for.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: That way, they want to challenge the data.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: They want to ask questions.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: if they want to introduce their own who what where when why and how into that communication cycle, they can and they have a foundation of understanding how AI is being used in your environment.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Always remember, have checks and balances.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: be smart about how you integrate with add to communicate with AI.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: Be transparent about how you're using it and who you're using it with or for.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: And embrace AI like you would any other business tool.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's there to support you, but it's not there to make your decision.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's not there to speak for you.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's there to support you.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: to make you the best human that you can be and to do it in the best way and the most efficient way but still be mindful, still be thoughtful, and still hold on to those core values in that mission that you have in your organization.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: I hope today's discussion helps you to understand how you might use AI a little bit better and how AI can be integrated into your environment into your daily routines.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: But doesn't take over and doesn't cause issues for you in the future.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: I look forward to talking to you again more very soon and I hope you have a great day.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
