- 0:00Hey there and welcome back. I'm Dr. Hartung and
- 0:02you're listening to the Family Chiropractic Center
- 0:04podcast. I'm so glad you're here today because
- 0:07we're talking about something that affects every
- 0:09single one of us every morning and that's how
- 0:11you start your day. Now, I know what you might
- 0:13be thinking, Dr. Hartung, I can barely get out
- 0:16of bed in the morning, let alone build some fancy
- 0:18routine. I hear you. I really do. But here's
- 0:20the thing. The way you spend the first 30 minutes
- 0:23of your morning can set the tone for how your
- 0:25entire body feels throughout the day. And it
- 0:28doesn't have to be complicated, not even a little
- 0:30bit. So, let's talk about it. The first thing
- 0:32I want you to think about is movement. And no,
- 0:35I don't mean jumping straight into a full workout
- 0:37before the sun comes up. I mean gentle, intentional
- 0:40movement to wake your spine up. See, when you
- 0:43sleep, Your body is in one position for hours.
- 0:46Your joints get stiff. Your muscles get tight.
- 0:49Your spine needs a little coaxing to get going.
- 0:51What I recommend to my patients is spending just
- 0:54five minutes doing some gentle morning stretches
- 0:57before you ever reach for your phone. Try bringing
- 0:59your knees to your chest while you're still lying
- 1:01in bed. Hold it for a few seconds. Then slowly
- 1:04roll to one side before you sit up. This takes
- 1:07pressure off your lower back and helps your spine
- 1:10transition from rest to activity in a much kinder
- 1:13way. Here's what's interesting. So many people
- 1:16jump out of bed and start rushing around and
- 1:18then they wonder why their back hurts by lunchtime.
- 1:20That abrupt transition from lying flat to upright
- 1:23activity can really stress the structures in
- 1:26your spine. A little slow and steady goes a long
- 1:28way. The second thing I want to talk about is
- 1:31hydration. This one is simple, but most people
- 1:33skip it. When you wake up, your body has been
- 1:36without water for seven or eight hours. Your
- 1:38discs, the soft cushions between your vertebrae,
- 1:41they rely on hydration to maintain their height
- 1:44and their ability to absorb shock. Starting your
- 1:46morning with a full glass of water before your
- 1:48coffee can make a real difference in how your
- 1:51joints feel. Now the third thing, and this one
- 1:53might surprise you, is posture awareness. Before
- 1:56you sit down at a desk or get behind the wheel
- 1:58for your commute from Robinson Township, take
- 2:01a second and just check in with yourself. Are
- 2:03your shoulders rounded? Is your chin jutting
- 2:05forward? These little habits repeated day after
- 2:07day add up over time. Just that 30 -second posture
- 2:11check in the morning can start to wire in better
- 2:13habits throughout the rest of your day. So to
- 2:16pull it all together, here's what a healthier
- 2:18morning can look like. Wake up slowly, stretch
- 2:21gently before getting out of bed, drink a glass
- 2:23of water, and take one moment to stand tall and
- 2:25check your posture before you head out the door.
- 2:28That's it. Small steps, real results. Now, if
- 2:31you're already dealing with morning stiffness,
- 2:33neck tension, or back pain that just doesn't
- 2:35seem to go away no matter what you try, that's
- 2:37your body asking for a little extra support.
- 2:40That's where we come in. A chiropractic evaluation
- 2:42can help us understand what's going on in your
- 2:45spine and build a plan to help you feel better,
- 2:47move better, and your mornings on the right foot.
