- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody Brian Smith here with the IM team series and the daily influence and today's topic mindfulness and I'm going to turn this over to Greg, but one of the things that we do here at IA that slows us down and gets us mindful is gratitude group.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: and Greg participates in gratitude group on a regular basis.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I look in the mirror and say I should more, but the fact is I don't, and it's just something that I do in different ways.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: I show my gratitude in different ways, because I see everybody.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: But our team doesn't get to see each other as often.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: And this is opportunity for them to come together and share gratitude.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not necessarily gratitude with each other.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's gratitude for whatever area of influence has had influence on them in their lives.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: And it makes us a better team, but it's a moment of mindfulness that I'm going to let Greg expand on and talk about.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: So Greg, thank you and please share mindfulness with everybody.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, Brian.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: I am enjoying this.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: I love to spread a positive influence on those around me.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope you are getting a daily dose of a positive influence from these podcasts that I'm doing.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: So today, talking about mindfulness, mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and aware of your thoughts, your emotions and your surroundings.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: It involves focusing on the present moment without judgment or distraction.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: For me, mindfulness is truly taking a step back and living in the moment.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: In today's Fast Paced Society, it's super hard to do that.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: But if we have tools to enable us to do that, it makes a world a difference.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: a couple of the tools that I have learned in my mindfulness journey is when thoughts come into my mind that I can't deal with at that present moment.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: I literally tell my brain out loud.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Thought I cannot deal with you now.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: You are being disrespectful to my me, to whoever I'm having conversation with, I will deal with you later.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: This is something I learned through a mindfulness course that I took.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: It has helped me in all different areas of my life.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I share this tool with anyone who is struggling with staying focused and living in the present moment.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: Where the tool has helped me the best is on Sunday nights,
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: When it used to be hard for me to fall asleep because my mind is racing about everything that I have to do.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: I literally, when I started using this practice, would tell my brain out loud, so my brain would hear it, say, but I cannot do what you right now, I will deal with you tomorrow.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: You're being disrespectful to my mind and my body, this is our time to heal.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: You can use this practice in anything that you do recently, a good friend of mine's husband suddenly passed away.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: She had so much on her mind thinking about
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: funeral arrangements and his business and
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: Everything else that she was going to have to deal with and I had a conversation with her and I taught her this and it really helped her get through that time focus on living in that moment by us having our weekly gratitude group we talk about these things and if we eat we're also busy here at iA and as you are to everyone is busy in today's society but we are forced.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: We want to be forced to slow down and pause for our gratitude group.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. We get together as a group.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: We discuss the topic and we share something we're grateful for.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: This to me is a mindfulness act because we are all stopping our client work, our operational work and focusing on the present moment and each other to learn something new and to have gratitude.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: It has been so rewarding and I really urge you and your company to start a weekly
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: Today's lesson mindfulness, just be aware of your thoughts, emotions and surroundings.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Don't get upset, don't get frustrated with yourself.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: Just be in the present moment, and that will help you.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: get through, live in the moment.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: It has been proven also to reduce anxiety and stress, because we can't deal focus on the future items that are not in the present moment.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I hope you enjoyed this episode on mindfulness.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: There's lots of mindfulness tools out there.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: Just go to our friend Google and just do a search for mindfulness tools and you'll learn all kinds.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: So have a great day.
