- 2:08Speaker 1: some free promo here. Technically they didn't pay for that
- 2:11Speaker 1: shout out, but nonetheless, Hey, so today's podcast is really
- 2:14Speaker 1: dope to me. It's from my boy Chappelle Chappelle Lacey,
- 2:21Speaker 1: who I went to high school with all all over
- 2:25Speaker 1: the years in high school, Me and him went to
- 2:26Speaker 1: school together. We were good friends. In high school. We
- 2:29Speaker 1: kind of bonded the whole time we met. We just
- 2:32Speaker 1: I mean, we just rocked with each other real heavy
- 2:34Speaker 1: all throughout high school. And this guy, you know, we
- 2:40Speaker 1: stayed in contact loosely, and I wouldn't say like we
- 2:42Speaker 1: stayed like, you know, super tight, you know what I mean,
- 2:45Speaker 1: But we stayed in contact through social media. And then
- 2:49Speaker 1: he started doing stand up comedy and it really started
- 2:55Speaker 1: to take off for him a couple of years ago
- 2:57Speaker 1: and he moved to LA And since he's moved to La, man,
- 3:03Speaker 1: this guy is about to be everywhere. Like you're gonna
- 3:07Speaker 1: see this guy in movies. You're gonna see him. I mean,
- 3:10Speaker 1: he's a superstar in the making. Super proud of him.
- 3:13Speaker 1: He's from my hometown and you know he's my friend.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So very funny guy. He's on The King and the
- 3:20Speaker 1: Sting podcast with Brendan Shab and Theo Vaughn. He's he's
- 3:25Speaker 1: getting into that circle, that Joe Rogan circle. You know,
- 3:28Speaker 1: Joe Rogan always shows him Hello Love on his podcast.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So he's gonna be on the Joe Rogan podcast soon.
- 3:35Speaker 1: He's just hilarious man. But he's on the Theo Vonn
- 3:37Speaker 1: and Brendan Shaw podcast every week, King and the Sting.
- 3:40Speaker 1: His stand up is crazy. Obviously the stand up game
- 3:42Speaker 1: is fucked up right now. But yeah, follow him, show
- 3:46Speaker 1: him love. He's just the best dude to ever give
- 3:49Speaker 1: you a little context. When I was in high school,
- 3:52Speaker 1: he was like, you know, I was a super hip
- 3:54Speaker 1: hop head. We went to school in Mesa, Arizona, with
- 3:56Speaker 1: a lot of Mormons and shit. But Chappelle was a
- 4:01Speaker 1: black kid who were super tight pants, super tight punk
- 4:05Speaker 1: rock band tease. I'm not talking like punk rock like
- 4:08Speaker 1: Blink one two is punk rock, go, I mean like
- 4:10Speaker 1: the fucking black cart and shit, like you know what
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'm saying. And this fool could do fucking backflips and
- 4:16Speaker 1: was a cheerleader. So in high school, my dog was,
- 4:20Speaker 1: you know, the black kid who loved real punk music,
- 4:26Speaker 1: was capable of beating your ass and also was a
- 4:30Speaker 1: male cheerleader who could do a backflip and twirl and
- 4:33Speaker 1: all that. So yo, just the life of the Yeah, like,
- 4:37Speaker 1: like you know, just everyone loved him in school and
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'm happy to have him on the podcast. Man, that's
- 4:42Speaker 1: my boy, And this conversation is my favorite conversation we've
- 4:45Speaker 1: had so far. On the Bootleg Cap podcast, even if
- 4:50Speaker 1: you are not necessarily like into what you know, Hey,
- 4:53Speaker 1: who the fuck is this comedian guy that's CAP's friend. Listen,
- 4:56Speaker 1: dudes on the come up. He's booming and the conversation
- 5:01Speaker 1: we had was fire. So let's get into it. Chappelle Lacey.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I almost called him Chappelle Lacey Harris, but he's not.
- 5:09Speaker 1: He does it. That's his actual name, Chappelle Lacy. Ladies
- 5:12Speaker 1: and gentlemen, let's get to the interview. You got it
- 5:15Speaker 1: Chappel Lacey, Chappell Lacy Harris. No, you see, you know me.
- 5:21Speaker 1: That's how long you've known me. So now that it's okay,
- 5:23Speaker 1: we have the world famous world stand up comedian Chappelle Lacey,
- 5:32Speaker 1: I say a couple of states. Chappelle Lacey is here.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So for people who don't know, uh, that's so wild.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You know my real life. I mean it's not wild.
- 5:40Speaker 1: What do you mean? It's wild? High school together, but
- 5:43Speaker 1: it's just weird to hear it because no one, no
- 5:45Speaker 1: one like knows that knows me as that. Yeah, so
- 5:48Speaker 1: me and Chappelle went to uh we went to Westwood
- 5:51Speaker 1: High together in Mesa and uh shout out to the
- 5:57Speaker 1: warriors man. Uh yeah, and like it's cool because like
- 6:00Speaker 1: when we were in school, we were cool the whole time. Yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 1: I feel like we were kind of like kindred spirits,
- 6:04Speaker 1: low key we we met. Uh. That teacher's name was
- 6:08Speaker 1: Miss star Wark. Oh wow, but I don't remember what
- 6:11Speaker 1: the class was. I remember that name though, Yeah, Miss
- 6:14Speaker 1: star Work, and she was kind of I mean, she
- 6:16Speaker 1: would go hard on us, I think just because we
- 6:18Speaker 1: was you know, should google her, but I can't. This
- 6:23Speaker 1: was like some like development like type class. I don't
- 6:28Speaker 1: know exactly what it was. I keep wanting to say humanities,
- 6:32Speaker 1: but it wasn't humanity. There was something along that line,
- 6:35Speaker 1: those lines star Wark star Work. Let's see if I
- 6:39Speaker 1: could find her, Miss star Work. Yeah, teacher Westwood, Westwood, short,
- 6:47Speaker 1: little lady with red hair. I think something like that
- 6:49Speaker 1: with glasses. She ain't here, ain't on there. Her career
- 6:53Speaker 1: didn't last that long. Probably probably not. You don't know.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I mean, if she's not on did you Did we
- 7:00Speaker 1: have mister Green's class ever together? Which one was the history? No,
- 7:06Speaker 1: we didn't have mister Green. I never had mister Green.
- 7:08Speaker 1: He was fire. Yeah, that was like the chill dude.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I feel like he was like getting high with students.
- 7:12Speaker 1: That's what everybody says. That's that was. Like I feel
- 7:14Speaker 1: like that was like Folkalore, though everybody would say that
- 7:16Speaker 1: about like Miss Rowntree. Yeah, we had miss Rowntree. That
- 7:21Speaker 1: ship was turned up. Yeah, Miss Rowntree was turned up.
- 7:23Speaker 1: We had Miss Rowntree fire. I used to write people's
- 7:29Speaker 1: essays in that class. Oh for real? Yeah, well she
- 7:32Speaker 1: was English, right, English? Yeah, yeah, Miss Roundtree was fire.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah that's crazy. So okay, so we met in high school,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and you know, it was interesting because at our school
- 7:45Speaker 1: there was like we went to school with some Mormons, yeah,
- 7:49Speaker 1: because we was a Mesa. We went to school some
- 7:51Speaker 1: Native American folks. And then there was like the you know,
- 7:54Speaker 1: Westwood is kind of like a nice gumbo pot of
- 7:57Speaker 1: Mesa Arizona. Yeah right, because the res that's like the
- 8:02Speaker 1: core of the Reds is there around. The school's kind
- 8:05Speaker 1: of hood low key, and then like then there's just
- 8:08Speaker 1: Mormons because it's Mason Mormons, a bunch of Tonguans. Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: but like it was, it's crazy because you were always
- 8:16Speaker 1: like people always loved you in school and I feel
- 8:20Speaker 1: like I knew your brother rest in peace too. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 1: and your brother were cool. I forget. I think we
- 8:25Speaker 1: had weight training together and he was always super so
- 8:27Speaker 1: he always said great things about you. Yeah, but uh yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 1: it was It was crazy because you were this black
- 8:33Speaker 1: kid in high school who would wear these tight ass
- 8:36Speaker 1: pants and these punk rock t shirts. I still do, right, no, no, no,
- 8:40Speaker 1: but I just remember like being like yo, like like
- 8:42Speaker 1: who is this guy? Like this ship is kind of dope.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But you also were in the hip hop too, like look,
- 8:48Speaker 1: that's why I said. One of one of my favorite
- 8:50Speaker 1: memories of you was when when o dB died, you
- 8:57Speaker 1: printed out a bunch of pictures of ODB and and
- 9:00Speaker 1: and put type type rest in Peace, o dB, and
- 9:04Speaker 1: you taped them all over the school. Yeah, I remember that.
- 9:08Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite memories of you. Yeah. Man,
- 9:11Speaker 1: shout out to old dirty bastard. Yeah, I remember that
- 9:13Speaker 1: when that happened because I took one of the uh
- 9:17Speaker 1: because I love Wu Tang obviously, and I took one
- 9:19Speaker 1: of the papers or whatever, and I had it in
- 9:22Speaker 1: my folder forever. Yeah, shout out to ODB man. Yeah. Yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I felt like at school like I was like the
- 9:28Speaker 1: music nerd dude, and yeah, you you were like the
- 9:31Speaker 1: music nerd on the other stuff, on the other stuff,
- 9:34Speaker 1: and then bruh, Okay, I'm trying to think if this
- 9:38Speaker 1: is where you got your name? Okay, because I was
- 9:40Speaker 1: selling CDs back then and donuts. Yes, he used to
- 9:47Speaker 1: come to school with a double bag and it was
- 9:49Speaker 1: so funny. He would sell them, but you would hook
- 9:51Speaker 1: me up all the time. He used to just thrown
- 9:54Speaker 1: to me for free. Everybody else he had a double
- 9:57Speaker 1: bag full of like don't intimates and my mom was
- 10:00Speaker 1: the manager of intimates but if you guess them all,
- 10:02Speaker 1: so all the stuff that they were going to throw out,
- 10:04Speaker 1: I would just take and then I would sell it
- 10:06Speaker 1: at school. Dude, he was selling. I'd be posted up
- 10:09Speaker 1: at lunch time. Duffle bag. The whole big old I had.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It was a big ass duffle bag. Yeah. So I
- 10:15Speaker 1: was like and then the longer the day would go
- 10:17Speaker 1: on and the doughnuts were still there, like the box
- 10:18Speaker 1: would get more fucked up and I'd have to give
- 10:20Speaker 1: them do it like, yo, look I got this box
- 10:21Speaker 1: busted open. Yeah yeah, I used to do that all
- 10:24Speaker 1: the time. Real yeah, man, that's crazy, so crazy. Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 1: So uh we were to high school together for people
- 10:33Speaker 1: who don't know you've been how you've been doing stand
- 10:35Speaker 1: up for how long? What I'm doing it? Eight or
- 10:40Speaker 1: nine years or something like that. I didn't even know
- 10:42Speaker 1: you've been doing it that long. Yeah, most people don't
- 10:45Speaker 1: because I had. You moved out of Arizona right after
- 10:48Speaker 1: my brother had passed. I stopped Okay, that was he
- 10:51Speaker 1: died in two thousand and thirteen, and then I and
- 10:55Speaker 1: all of twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen, I didn't do it,
- 10:59Speaker 1: and then twenty sixteen, that is when I got back
- 11:01Speaker 1: in it. Wow, So you you would move out of Arizona, right,
- 11:06Speaker 1: were like somewhere random or yeah? Yeah? When I was
- 11:09Speaker 1: uh yeah, because I cheered. You were doing cheerleading stuff
- 11:12Speaker 1: in college and touring and yeah, you go to college.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I went to school in Texas called Trinity, Texas. Yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and then uh, University of Louisville, Kentucky. Yeah. And that's
- 11:23Speaker 1: another random thing. You were cheerleader, like a like a
- 11:27Speaker 1: brilliant cheerleader. Yeah, that's something that caught everybody off. Fucking ninja.
- 11:32Speaker 1: This guy was like a hardcore punk rocker who also
- 11:35Speaker 1: was a cheerleader at the same time. Let me tell you, bro,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I didn't give a funk about anybody. Yeah, it was.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It was crazy. I did what I did, man, and
- 11:43Speaker 1: I was like, I gotta be good at it. You
- 11:46Speaker 1: if I sucked at it, then it'd be like everybody's
- 11:49Speaker 1: gonna make Can you do flips? Yeah that's fire. Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 1: So like, you know, we went to high school together,
- 11:59Speaker 1: you graduated, do the cheerlea anything. Very successful with that,
- 12:01Speaker 1: by the way. Yeah, I'm a scholarship and all this
- 12:05Speaker 1: and then got me a scholarship to drop out. I'll
- 12:08Speaker 1: tell you that much too. I feel like the stand
- 12:10Speaker 1: up thing is like it's like, you know, it's almost
- 12:13Speaker 1: like I feel like low key's kind of like the
- 12:15Speaker 1: hip hop game. There's so many people who do stand
- 12:17Speaker 1: up in whatever city you're in. They go to open mics, yes,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and they say, like it sounds good to say, yeah,
- 12:22Speaker 1: I'm a stand up comedian or whatever. I do stand up,
- 12:24Speaker 1: but like to actually take it serious and and move
- 12:29Speaker 1: your life to la and like really pursue it. Like
- 12:32Speaker 1: what was the thing that made you take that leap?
- 12:36Speaker 1: Like was there a specific thing that happened, Like, yeah,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I was. I was working at a hotel in Phoenix.
- 12:43Speaker 1: This was twenty seventeen. And now you know, like I said, like,
- 12:47Speaker 1: and I had been back, you know, been back in
- 12:49Speaker 1: comedy for like a year, and uh, you know, twenty seventeen,
- 12:53Speaker 1: I was working at this hotel downtown Phoenix that was
- 12:56Speaker 1: like connected to the the comedy club down there, stand
- 12:59Speaker 1: Up Live. Yeah. Oh yeah, was at the Palomar Hotel. Yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 1: I worked at the Palomar. And so I was working
- 13:07Speaker 1: there and uh, Bill Burr had came in. He was
- 13:11Speaker 1: staying there because he was doing some shows, and I
- 13:15Speaker 1: helped him with his luggage or whatnot, like, and that
- 13:17Speaker 1: was just like it was kind of it was all
- 13:19Speaker 1: this was just organic. It was a it was all organic,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and uh, I was helping him with his luggage. And
- 13:24Speaker 1: then the whole time he was there, we was just
- 13:27Speaker 1: we were just chopping it up. When when he like
- 13:29Speaker 1: first got in and we were you know, I told
- 13:31Speaker 1: him I was a comic. We were we were talking
- 13:33Speaker 1: sports more than anything because uh he's a Celtics guy
- 13:36Speaker 1: and the Celtics were playing, uh the Suns, and we
- 13:40Speaker 1: were just chopping about sports. And then he was like,
- 13:43Speaker 1: are you funny? And I was like yeah, and then
- 13:47Speaker 1: he was like and I was like okay. And then
- 13:50Speaker 1: he was like, well, won't you wan't you won't you
- 13:53Speaker 1: come by tonight and then I'm gonna have you opened
- 13:56Speaker 1: for me. And so that right there was like the
- 14:00Speaker 1: moment where I was like, oh, ship, and you'd been
- 14:03Speaker 1: doing like open mic stuff prior to this, Yeah, and
- 14:05Speaker 1: I had been. I had been opening for like like
- 14:07Speaker 1: I was getting like local work at the at the
- 14:09Speaker 1: club Bill Bird is a big deal, a massive deal.
- 14:13Speaker 1: He was like sold out crowd. Yeah, yeah, that room
- 14:17Speaker 1: at Stand Up Live seats like close to it. It's
- 14:21Speaker 1: a great club too, Yeah, great club. And I you know,
- 14:25Speaker 1: I never done that club like sold out because I
- 14:27Speaker 1: had opened for people that you know, kind of just
- 14:28Speaker 1: like lower level like touring college but like you know,
- 14:31Speaker 1: got enough uh name for themselves to where they get around. Yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 1: and you know, it was It was one of the
- 14:38Speaker 1: most nerve wracking things like ever, Like I went home,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I couldn't go to sleep. I couldn't take it like
- 14:43Speaker 1: a nap or anything. And then so you went home
- 14:46Speaker 1: and couldn't go to sleep because you did it or
- 14:47Speaker 1: because you knew you were about to do it. Yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 1: When I, uh so, when I got got off work
- 14:54Speaker 1: and I was going home because I worked the early
- 14:56Speaker 1: ship and I was going home like and I usually
- 14:58Speaker 1: like take like a twenty minute nap just to get
- 15:00Speaker 1: my just get restarted, and I couldn't even sleep. I
- 15:05Speaker 1: was like, man, I could usually take a nap like
- 15:06Speaker 1: it's nothing after work, but I couldn't even like because
- 15:09Speaker 1: I just kept thinking about it. And then uh, the
- 15:12Speaker 1: time came for it, you know, opened up. It went
- 15:16Speaker 1: really good, and then he let me finish out the
- 15:18Speaker 1: whole weekend with him. He was like yeah, you know, yeah,
- 15:21Speaker 1: finish it out. And uh he even paid me too,
- 15:24Speaker 1: which was like wow, Like I wasn't even yeah, I
- 15:27Speaker 1: wasn't even expecting any that like, and he was super nice,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and I was like, uh, I even asked him. I
- 15:32Speaker 1: was like, man, what made you like, you know, give
- 15:35Speaker 1: me a shot like that? And he's like, what's the
- 15:38Speaker 1: worst suff's gonna happen. You're gonna bomb for five minutes,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you know, ten minutes, like what so you know yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 1: and then then he was like he goes you know,
- 15:46Speaker 1: And I also had like an you know intuition, like
- 15:49Speaker 1: I was like, I bet he'd be good. Do you
- 15:51Speaker 1: and Dover are still still keeping any sort of contract? Man? Yeah?
- 15:54Speaker 1: So uh yeah, like I see him around at the
- 15:58Speaker 1: Comedy Store. Of course. Uh I've got I've gotten real
- 16:01Speaker 1: close with Joe Rogan and uh so Joe Rogan will
- 16:05Speaker 1: do like his Joe Rogan and Friends type shows, and
- 16:09Speaker 1: uh I had to follow Burr one night, which was
- 16:13Speaker 1: like insane because like going after him so funny and
- 16:18Speaker 1: he's a month So like, okay, so we're backstage at
- 16:23Speaker 1: the store, you know, in the main room. You've been there, right, yeah,
- 16:27Speaker 1: of course. And so we're backstage the main room chilling
- 16:31Speaker 1: and then uh I didn't even know Bill Burr was
- 16:33Speaker 1: on the lineup, Like Joe just says show up and
- 16:36Speaker 1: and then we get you know, we just get going.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So Bill walks in and he's like, Joe, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I want to go, you know a little earlyer than
- 16:42Speaker 1: I'm not feeling too good. And I was like, oh,
- 16:45Speaker 1: is he is he gonna go before me? Or after me?
- 16:49Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Because I was going. I
- 16:50Speaker 1: knew I was going earlier on the lineup because it
- 16:52Speaker 1: was it was a pretty stacked lineup, and uh, you know,
- 16:56Speaker 1: so I'm sitting there for like, you know, forty five
- 16:58Speaker 1: minutes before showtime because we're all just chilling there talking
- 17:01Speaker 1: and I'm just kind of like, what is he going up?
- 17:03Speaker 1: You know? And then the sound guy comes back. He's like,
- 17:06Speaker 1: all right, Joe, how are we doing this? He's like,
- 17:08Speaker 1: all right, it's gonna go. Uh Derek Burr, Chappelle, AC
- 17:13Speaker 1: and Tony hixclip me. And I was like all right,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you know. And at that moment, which which was weird,
- 17:20Speaker 1: immediately at that moment, I thought about everything I went
- 17:24Speaker 1: through like in my life. It was like it was
- 17:27Speaker 1: like the weirdest thing that was Like my first thought
- 17:29Speaker 1: was like everything that I've been through, like all the
- 17:32Speaker 1: crazy shit, you know, with my family, stepfather, losing my brother.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I thought about all that, and then I looked at
- 17:38Speaker 1: where I was and then I was like I could
- 17:40Speaker 1: do this, you know. I was like I could do this.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Did you kill it? Yeah? I actually did and the
- 17:46Speaker 1: only way and like and like when I was up there,
- 17:48Speaker 1: like it was just like going like people were laughing
- 17:50Speaker 1: yet like you know, but what was funny? Like because
- 17:54Speaker 1: this could knock you off your fucking socks, you know
- 17:56Speaker 1: of course and uh when when when they bring Bill up,
- 18:02Speaker 1: he got a standing ovation walking out, he's Bill Burr. Yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 1: they were not expecting him, right, you said no, yeah,
- 18:09Speaker 1: because I I think I've been to a couple of
- 18:13Speaker 1: Joe Rogan shows and I think like every time I go,
- 18:14Speaker 1: someone just jumps on stage. Yeah, there's yeah, so like
- 18:17Speaker 1: there's ship. There's certain cats that are like they call
- 18:20Speaker 1: them drop ins. Yep, there's only certain cats like they
- 18:24Speaker 1: got the pass. Yeah, like Chris Rock of course, you
- 18:29Speaker 1: know Martin Lawrence. H yeah. Yeah. When those guys walk in,
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, when do you want to go up? Okay,
- 18:37Speaker 1: we'll put you one of them. Yeah, bro and uh
- 18:40Speaker 1: yeah he got a standing ovation walking out. I'm like, damn,
- 18:43Speaker 1: you know you're getting this like getting that rush or whatever.
- 18:45Speaker 1: But you know, needless to say, I was just like, hey,
- 18:48Speaker 1: you know they already heard Bill Burr. They haven't heard
- 18:51Speaker 1: me yet. So that was when you first moved out here. No,
- 18:55Speaker 1: that was that was just that was almost a year ago. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 1: so I remember when you first moved out here, and
- 19:06Speaker 1: I remember now when I moved out here, were you like, yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 1: everybody moves out here. No no, no, no no, no.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I broke with you. Chappelle. Got it. Like the thing
- 19:16Speaker 1: is is like you'll just know people like got it,
- 19:18Speaker 1: like like yo, like you could just like like you
- 19:21Speaker 1: could do whatever you want because you're Chappelle, So if
- 19:24Speaker 1: you wanted to do anything else, you could have did it.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You were a cheerleader. Yeah, true, you know what I mean?
- 19:30Speaker 1: Like and so yeah, I was like, oh yeah, yeah
- 19:32Speaker 1: Chappelle stand up. Of course. The guy's sucking was hilarious
- 19:35Speaker 1: in school. He's the and he's the black guy with
- 19:39Speaker 1: the punk rock t shirts. Like there's that's an angle
- 19:42Speaker 1: for an entire sp special. I even think that. What
- 19:47Speaker 1: was the one clip you did on Comedy Central I
- 19:49Speaker 1: saw that was I was like, yeah, yeah, he's talking
- 19:51Speaker 1: about his life. I was there, Oh yeah, yeah yeah
- 19:54Speaker 1: like white friends and uh huh yeah ship. But yeah
- 19:57Speaker 1: it was like, uh, I forget when I think, because
- 20:02Speaker 1: I listened to Joe Rogan probably, if not every episode
- 20:06Speaker 1: when he has some of the crazy cookie right wing dudes,
- 20:08Speaker 1: I fall off. But yeah, but for the most part
- 20:11Speaker 1: I probably listened to like almost I would say, eighty
- 20:13Speaker 1: percent of all his shit. And and I remember he
- 20:17Speaker 1: brought you up and I was like, oh shit, it's
- 20:20Speaker 1: about to get real for this kid. Dude, he's like
- 20:24Speaker 1: the king maker. Yeah, and it was so wild. Is
- 20:26Speaker 1: that like literally, I haven't even been on this podcast yet,
- 20:31Speaker 1: but literally anytime he says my name or anything like that,
- 20:35Speaker 1: I just start like, all of a sudden, I start
- 20:37Speaker 1: getting a bunch of follows and I'm like fuck, like
- 20:40Speaker 1: what But it's like a lot at like a time
- 20:42Speaker 1: in a wild way and I'm like the hell And
- 20:44Speaker 1: then all of a sudden my home, like some of
- 20:46Speaker 1: my homies will be like, yo, I heard it Brogans
- 20:49Speaker 1: talking about you right now. He said this, this and that.
- 20:51Speaker 1: So how did you guys become friends? Bro? That was
- 20:54Speaker 1: a random that like all the shit that happens to
- 20:56Speaker 1: me so fucking because for people who don't realize, I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 1: Rogan is the most successful podcast for ever, and for
- 21:04Speaker 1: people who are watching this aren't tapped in with the
- 21:06Speaker 1: stand up world, Like he's like low key to Kingmanger,
- 21:08Speaker 1: like like like if you like if he like co
- 21:11Speaker 1: signed you as a comedian. Oh, that's that's a big
- 21:14Speaker 1: it's a big plug. It's a huge plug. Yeah, it's
- 21:16Speaker 1: like that. They compare it to like Johnny Carson, like
- 21:19Speaker 1: back in the day. Yeah, if you got on Johnny Carson, Yeah,
- 21:22Speaker 1: now if you go do Joe Rogan's podcast, it's like,
- 21:25Speaker 1: you know, yeah you can at least go on tour.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, you're gonna do good. Yeah. So you
- 21:31Speaker 1: guys became friends. How so the Comedy Store has this
- 21:36Speaker 1: so they have like they're paid regulars, right yep. And
- 21:38Speaker 1: they have this program where like you work your way
- 21:42Speaker 1: up into a paid regular called the development Spots. And
- 21:44Speaker 1: that's what that's what that's like the status. I'm at
- 21:48Speaker 1: there right now, and uh, I was going to do
- 21:52Speaker 1: like one of my development spots. So like they put
- 21:54Speaker 1: a development spot like right at the top of the show.
- 21:56Speaker 1: They just go up and do like five minutes said
- 21:59Speaker 1: blah blah blah spot for the for the week. And
- 22:03Speaker 1: I was doing one, uh where Rogan was on the
- 22:07Speaker 1: lineup and we were I am usually like when I
- 22:11Speaker 1: first when I was first doing them, I would just
- 22:13Speaker 1: kind of just sit there quiet, you know, just because
- 22:15Speaker 1: all the big dogs are back there, and I kind
- 22:17Speaker 1: of was just like chilling the corner, you know what
- 22:19Speaker 1: I mean. And uh, then he came on. He just
- 22:22Speaker 1: started talking to me. He's like, what's up, man, I
- 22:24Speaker 1: was like, oh, what's up. Like we just started chopping
- 22:28Speaker 1: it up. Then we started talking about like we got
- 22:31Speaker 1: real deep. We all of a sudden we started talking about, like,
- 22:33Speaker 1: you know, he started talking about his dad. I started
- 22:36Speaker 1: talking about like my you know, stepfather and crazy, the
- 22:39Speaker 1: crazy ship we went through with him. We started talking
- 22:41Speaker 1: about like you know, our anger problems we got like
- 22:44Speaker 1: then we started talking about books and all this ship
- 22:47Speaker 1: and it was it was a really great conversation. And then, uh,
- 22:52Speaker 1: as I'm leaving because I just had got off stage,
- 22:54Speaker 1: you know, I went to go say bye to him.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I was like, all right, Joe, you know, pleasure blah
- 22:57Speaker 1: blah blah. And he was like, wait, what's what's your Instagram?
- 22:59Speaker 1: Man want to follow you blah blah blah. I was like,
- 23:02Speaker 1: oh ship. I was like, you know, there is blah
- 23:04Speaker 1: blah blah. I was already following him, but yeah, he
- 23:08Speaker 1: started following me. And then you know, uh, I remember
- 23:13Speaker 1: we had talked talked about he geeks out over my cheerleading.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Of course he's just like he thinks it's like the
- 23:18Speaker 1: craziest thing. He's just like a guy your size, you know,
- 23:23Speaker 1: people around, Yeah, he goes it's it's insane, like and
- 23:25Speaker 1: because I you know, a guy in my size isn't
- 23:28Speaker 1: supposed to be able to do the flips that like
- 23:31Speaker 1: I'm able to do. It's not Yeah, it's like it
- 23:33Speaker 1: shouldn't be a thing. It's a lot of weight to
- 23:36Speaker 1: like carry, needless to say. And so he's just like,
- 23:40Speaker 1: you know, geeked out over that. And you know, then
- 23:44Speaker 1: he gave me his number. He's like, Yo, come come
- 23:46Speaker 1: open for me tonight at the store. You know, I
- 23:47Speaker 1: got a spot for you. Blah blah blah. I was like, whoa.
- 23:50Speaker 1: And I didn't know if he had like seen me
- 23:52Speaker 1: performed yet or anything like that, but he kind of
- 23:54Speaker 1: was just like, yeah, you know, I'll throw you up.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Ever since then, we've just been cool. Yeah. And then like,
- 24:02Speaker 1: so you're on the King and the Sting podcast, Yeah,
- 24:05Speaker 1: with Brendan Shop and theovon right, So those two did
- 24:10Speaker 1: you just because I feel like the comedy stores like
- 24:12Speaker 1: where everybody kind of meets up. Is that how you
- 24:14Speaker 1: met them as well? Or you know I met THEO
- 24:16Speaker 1: and Brendan back in twenty sixteen actually in Arizona and Arizona.
- 24:22Speaker 1: THEO wasn't even like they weren't even like where they're
- 24:26Speaker 1: at right now. Oh of course not yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 24:29Speaker 1: no not at all. So like, yeah, we were just
- 24:32Speaker 1: you know, just from you know, I would hang out
- 24:35Speaker 1: at the comedy like the TIMPI I proper stand uplive
- 24:39Speaker 1: all the time, just because like I was tight with
- 24:41Speaker 1: all the staff there, and you know, they would just
- 24:43Speaker 1: let me come kick it, you know, no no uh,
- 24:46Speaker 1: no problems, and you know, and then I would just
- 24:49Speaker 1: you know, those dudes would just come up just start
- 24:51Speaker 1: talking to me because like I said, I don't know
- 24:54Speaker 1: what it is about me sitting in a corner by
- 24:57Speaker 1: myself or something like that, but people just like, hey, man,
- 25:00Speaker 1: what you up to? You know type type deal like,
- 25:03Speaker 1: which is what happens a lot. And then uh sometimes
- 25:05Speaker 1: it's juicy through like a mutual friend. But you know,
- 25:08Speaker 1: yeah I met both of them, you know, twenty sixteen,
- 25:10Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, like did you guys like
- 25:12Speaker 1: stay in contact that whole time? Yeah? Like yeah, because
- 25:15Speaker 1: they were like, yo, man, take my number down, like
- 25:17Speaker 1: you know you real cool shit like that, blah blah blah.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Like it's funny because I feel like Brendan Shop is
- 25:22Speaker 1: the kind of guy you wouldn't hang out with in
- 25:24Speaker 1: high school. Oh hell no, hell no, we say that.
- 25:27Speaker 1: We say that ship all the time, Like, bro, you
- 25:28Speaker 1: guys would yo. You just roasted him the other day
- 25:31Speaker 1: when he was talking about Nickelback. Oh you remember that? Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I was like, yo, yo, this guy's shop is not
- 25:36Speaker 1: a music head whatsoever. And you're like, you're like, yeah,
- 25:39Speaker 1: you would fucking listen to n Yeah. I was like,
- 25:41Speaker 1: you wouldn't make sense, and he's so yeah, and he
- 25:46Speaker 1: tries to make fun of me about like you know,
- 25:48Speaker 1: he probably loves Drake too. Yeah he does. He does. Yeah,
- 25:51Speaker 1: he does because uh he got a picture with Drake.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Of course he does. And he was I was like, uh,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I was like was he like he was saying, man,
- 25:59Speaker 1: I was so excited anyways. Yeah, So like, you know,
- 26:02Speaker 1: I like punk, but he thinks like Metallica's punk rock. No,
- 26:07Speaker 1: he thinks he's he thinks I'm a big Green Day fan,
- 26:11Speaker 1: and I'm like, that's not that's sounds. I was like,
- 26:13Speaker 1: that's not what I listened to. But he doesn't know that, right.
- 26:16Speaker 1: He's like that. He's like that that jock in high
- 26:19Speaker 1: school that like make fun of you. They were like, oh,
- 26:22Speaker 1: well your mom and You're like, okay, cool, you're funny. Bro. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 1: he's like because I think I followed I watched the podcast.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I watched the one with him and Brian Callen. Yeah,
- 26:34Speaker 1: and uh yeah, no, he's definitely that guy though. Yeah,
- 26:37Speaker 1: and it's hilarious. But he, like literally, hands down is
- 26:40Speaker 1: one of the nicest people. I'm fan generous like bro, Like,
- 26:45Speaker 1: you know, during the quarantine, I was like, I had
- 26:48Speaker 1: no gym membership. Bro. He brought me like these expensive
- 26:52Speaker 1: ass jump ropes, which I didn't know jump ropes could
- 26:54Speaker 1: get expensive, right, Like, I just go get him from Marshalls. Yeah,
- 26:59Speaker 1: he brought me like these weighted ones. They got an app,
- 27:01Speaker 1: you got a download with you, Yeah, and then he
- 27:04Speaker 1: got he gave me a kettlebell. All this ship any
- 27:07Speaker 1: how many fitness ship I would just go to the
- 27:08Speaker 1: middle of roster Marshalls, you know. I got their little areas.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah that random a little electronics and weights. Is
- 27:13Speaker 1: there Marshals out here? Yeah, at least a herd Bank
- 27:15Speaker 1: theories one I adn't seen in Hollywood. So he bought
- 27:18Speaker 1: you some some stuff. Yeah, Like he's just cool like that.
- 27:21Speaker 1: He'll you know, he'll take me on the road with
- 27:22Speaker 1: him too, and then like you know, them bringing me
- 27:26Speaker 1: on the as a you know, permanent person on the
- 27:30Speaker 1: King of the sting has been like you know, like
- 27:34Speaker 1: I don't know, like all of a sudden by following
- 27:36Speaker 1: and all this shit, people just like fuck with me
- 27:39Speaker 1: heavy and like I didn't realize, Like what's so funny
- 27:43Speaker 1: is I used to get made fun of a lot
- 27:44Speaker 1: about like the music I will listen to, like being
- 27:46Speaker 1: the black kid that listens to it. And literally now
- 27:50Speaker 1: like so like a lot of the d ms I
- 27:52Speaker 1: get is people asking me about music or want to
- 27:55Speaker 1: talk music with me. It's like insane, Like so many
- 27:58Speaker 1: people follow me because they see all the band t
- 28:00Speaker 1: shirts I wear on the on the podcast, and like
- 28:04Speaker 1: that's just that's just me being me. But like you know, hey,
- 28:08Speaker 1: grew random tangent. Who's the worst Nickelback or Creed nickel Really? Yeah,
- 28:15Speaker 1: I'll go at Cret on that one. You take Creed
- 28:17Speaker 1: over Nickelback. Yeah, I feel like I always say that though.
- 28:20Speaker 1: That's the music that white women danced to at white
- 28:23Speaker 1: strip clubs in the middle of America. Oh yeah, went
- 28:26Speaker 1: on open working a pole of that working pole. C
- 28:30Speaker 1: the fuck is going on getting down with the get
- 28:33Speaker 1: down crazy No. So yeah, like to give anybody like
- 28:36Speaker 1: like kind of give people some background because for the
- 28:38Speaker 1: people who don't understand how there's this black dude who
- 28:41Speaker 1: cheerleaded and fucking loves punk rock music. How did you
- 28:46Speaker 1: grow up because your brother was kind of a gangster
- 28:48Speaker 1: low kid at school. Yeah, your brother was like he
- 28:51Speaker 1: was like like, yeah, he was a goony on the football.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Was like very we were. My brother and I were
- 28:56Speaker 1: like when it came to like that stuff, right, like
- 29:00Speaker 1: how did you get into all that? Like you know,
- 29:02Speaker 1: obviously that was before the internet. Right now, I feel
- 29:04Speaker 1: like people can get into any kind of music they
- 29:05Speaker 1: want because it's so much easier to Yeah, oh back
- 29:08Speaker 1: in the day, it wasn't even like that do that,
- 29:09Speaker 1: Like literally I got up again. I got into all
- 29:12Speaker 1: that stuff. Uh you know because my mom she loves music,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and like our home was so hectic and shit, you
- 29:21Speaker 1: know because of my stepfather crazy. Uh we we like
- 29:26Speaker 1: she like that was the time I saw her at
- 29:28Speaker 1: her happiest was when she was listening to music and
- 29:30Speaker 1: she was playing like you know during that time, Like
- 29:33Speaker 1: my earliest memories is like you know, Bobby Brown and
- 29:36Speaker 1: like you know, uh fucking Brian McKnight, like all the
- 29:40Speaker 1: h town like Joe to Cy, Like she was really
- 29:43Speaker 1: into like a lot of that uh stuff, and she
- 29:45Speaker 1: was always, you know, whenever she was like cleaning up
- 29:47Speaker 1: or anything like, that was what she she got down with.
- 29:51Speaker 1: And so I started getting into it. And then, you know,
- 29:56Speaker 1: obviously growing up like in Arizona, you know more I
- 29:59Speaker 1: feel like or like obviously West Coast hip hop was
- 30:04Speaker 1: touching Arizona, so like, uh, you know, Snoop's first album
- 30:09Speaker 1: was like one of my favorites. I just told this
- 30:12Speaker 1: guy it just I think he just had an anniversary before.
- 30:15Speaker 1: That's one of my favorite albums ever. Yeah, great album
- 30:18Speaker 1: and better than Reasonable Doubt hair. Whoa you say that
- 30:24Speaker 1: in public? My hair? Of course. Okay, I just know
- 30:29Speaker 1: jay Z fans get crazy, but I'm a jay Z fan,
- 30:33Speaker 1: I know. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, and then I just
- 30:36Speaker 1: you know, switched to radio station. I heard some rock
- 30:39Speaker 1: and I was like, damn, this is tight too. Yeah,
- 30:45Speaker 1: there's the only station playing punk rock back then. Oh man,
- 30:48Speaker 1: that's so crazy. Yeah The Edge one of one three
- 30:53Speaker 1: point nine. Yeah, so yeah, because you were like into
- 30:58Speaker 1: some like real hard course ship though. Yeah, then I
- 31:00Speaker 1: got into like all that, like the stuff that wasn't
- 31:03Speaker 1: on the radio because none of that the radio because
- 31:05Speaker 1: when I when I take a dive in music, Oh,
- 31:07Speaker 1: I take a deep dive and I go like as
- 31:10Speaker 1: far as I like, I can't, like I don't. I
- 31:14Speaker 1: need to know it all right, Like that's just how
- 31:16Speaker 1: I am. Is that? And that's because like I'm a
- 31:19Speaker 1: big Henry Rollins geek. He is like that. Now, cheerleading
- 31:25Speaker 1: that started in high school? Or did that start in
- 31:27Speaker 1: middle school? I started in high school, So I started
- 31:29Speaker 1: at Westwood? Yeah, and so like, what what was the
- 31:33Speaker 1: was it to get pussy? Was it? Yeah? I did
- 31:35Speaker 1: it because I liked the girl. Yeah, like I'm gonna
- 31:37Speaker 1: hang out with these but I didn't get her. Oh
- 31:41Speaker 1: you did it for a particular girl? Which girl? You
- 31:45Speaker 1: know her? You might have known her rist Lopez? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 31:50Speaker 1: because I played in a band with her brother. We
- 31:54Speaker 1: were trying to do like a sky a sky band, right,
- 31:56Speaker 1: and didn't even succeed. But that ended up breaking up.
- 32:00Speaker 1: But I still jam what the hell's that name? We
- 32:04Speaker 1: didn't even play shows. This was before Westwood though, ufore. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:10Speaker 1: that drew my mind. But anyways, uh so I still
- 32:14Speaker 1: jammed out with him, you know, because you know, you're
- 32:16Speaker 1: trying to smash his sister. I don't know if I
- 32:18Speaker 1: was trying to, bro, I would love her. You were
- 32:20Speaker 1: trying to like take her on a date. Yeah, bro,
- 32:22Speaker 1: like the kind of apple. I'm the kind of guy
- 32:25Speaker 1: like I wasn't trying to like smash trying to take
- 32:27Speaker 1: her to express Yeah. Yeah, I was writing like I
- 32:33Speaker 1: was writing poems like I was right, damn, like I went,
- 32:38Speaker 1: I went in, dude, you know that's how you got
- 32:40Speaker 1: in the cheerleading. Yeah, that's crazy. And then but I
- 32:43Speaker 1: already knew how to do flips and ship. I told
- 32:45Speaker 1: myself that when I was like, I mean, it was
- 32:48Speaker 1: like five when I taught myself how to do that ship. Yeah.
- 32:51Speaker 1: The Westwood High School games, the hot Pocket. Remember the
- 32:54Speaker 1: hot Pocket? What was that there? Where everybody was just
- 32:58Speaker 1: crazy and yah yeah yeah hot Yeah. There was like
- 33:01Speaker 1: the professional like fans. Mm, we'd be like, why don't
- 33:05Speaker 1: you just play football? Yeah exactly, it's like you guy,
- 33:08Speaker 1: my boy like Dudley Hunter. Shout out to Dudley, but
- 33:11Speaker 1: I remember he used to just paint himself every game
- 33:13Speaker 1: and like like, bro, you're in shape, like go play football?
- 33:18Speaker 1: Is in shape? Being an orange guy every Saturday? What's
- 33:21Speaker 1: wrong with you? Yeah? That shit's crazy. Like now with
- 33:26Speaker 1: obviously with stand up man, like the natural progression is
- 33:29Speaker 1: to start acting. Well now it's also podcast podcast, right
- 33:32Speaker 1: yeah yeah what wild something you said earlier that I
- 33:36Speaker 1: thought like that is very accurate as far as comedy goes.
- 33:41Speaker 1: It's very comparable to hip hop, like as far as
- 33:43Speaker 1: like the you know, everybody wants to say they yeah
- 33:47Speaker 1: they do that, yeah yeah, wrap and everybody wants to say, yeah,
- 33:50Speaker 1: I'm a comic, like because you you'll get cats that
- 33:52Speaker 1: will go up and you're like, oh, you're just doing
- 33:55Speaker 1: this because you want to say that you're a comic.
- 33:59Speaker 1: You're not even like trying to do anything with it, which, like, honestly,
- 34:03Speaker 1: this pandemic is I think it's clear that a lot
- 34:05Speaker 1: of those fools out they got to move back home.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, because they really realized their work. They're like, oh,
- 34:11Speaker 1: I need to re evaluate myself because I need to
- 34:13Speaker 1: make an actual living. Yes you know what I mean.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Like if it's not your dream or it's not something
- 34:19Speaker 1: you're going for then like so you're going for it all?
- 34:22Speaker 1: Yeah man, So like because I could see you totally acting,
- 34:27Speaker 1: oh would love to Oh bro, yeah, you're gonna be
- 34:29Speaker 1: a movie, bro, I know that's what they say. It's
- 34:31Speaker 1: gonna be good, even more so than a lot of
- 34:34Speaker 1: those guys that are in like little circle. Like you.
- 34:36Speaker 1: You're young, you're got a unique look, like you be
- 34:40Speaker 1: living because those those cats like you know, that whole squad,
- 34:43Speaker 1: they just do podcasts. They don't do they do the
- 34:45Speaker 1: fun out of pocket. They just a funk out of podcasts.
- 34:47Speaker 1: They don't do any acting or anything. But but I like,
- 34:50Speaker 1: I don't know, I like performing. I like entertainment itself.
- 34:53Speaker 1: I like it's I don't know, it's just one of obvious.
- 34:56Speaker 1: You're gonna be in a jet appetitle movie. I can
- 34:57Speaker 1: feel it. Man, I'll do that. What's up? Jut what's
- 35:00Speaker 1: the other what's the other guy? There's Judd, and then
- 35:03Speaker 1: there's there's another big comedy guy I don't know that
- 35:06Speaker 1: does that also directs comedy movies. Will Ferrell is the
- 35:11Speaker 1: jet appatol guy, right well, I think Will does a
- 35:14Speaker 1: lot with Jet Appatite. And then the other guy is
- 35:16Speaker 1: the guy who does like forty year old Virgin and
- 35:19Speaker 1: I don't know that was Oh Seth Rogan. Seth Rogan
- 35:23Speaker 1: does a lot of Seth Rogan does a lot. Maybe
- 35:25Speaker 1: maybe they're the same guy. I think a lot of
- 35:27Speaker 1: it's Judd Appatil. It got shout out to him. Yeah, bro,
- 35:30Speaker 1: he does a lot. He just did he Davidson's uh yeah,
- 35:35Speaker 1: King of Staten Island. Yeah. I saw that it was interesting.
- 35:40Speaker 1: It was it wasn't it wasn't a bad movie like
- 35:43Speaker 1: good I thought it was. I just thought it was
- 35:45Speaker 1: kind of like, it wasn't very funny. How about that
- 35:48Speaker 1: there were some funny parts in it, like the fact
- 35:51Speaker 1: he had to take the like Bill Burst kids. The
- 35:54Speaker 1: school was like, oh, yeah, that was pretty funny. I'm like, Yo,
- 35:56Speaker 1: who the fuck is letting their fucking kid walk to
- 35:59Speaker 1: school with some random ass motherfucker? The fuck is going
- 36:04Speaker 1: a guy that's trying to get with that person's mom?
- 36:06Speaker 1: The fuck that's right? He did? Yeah, yeah, no, I
- 36:10Speaker 1: think that like with the stand up thing, like I
- 36:12Speaker 1: think it's it's also like because of the podcasting ship,
- 36:16Speaker 1: it's more on ah, like it's easier to too. I
- 36:22Speaker 1: feel like, you know, five years ago, like if you
- 36:25Speaker 1: were like a stand up guy, you had to be
- 36:27Speaker 1: like you had to be like a real geek. Yeah,
- 36:30Speaker 1: you know. Now it's like you don't have to be
- 36:32Speaker 1: like my you know, there's just normal people who just
- 36:34Speaker 1: like Joe Rogan in their life, and then they find
- 36:36Speaker 1: these other podcasts and then people who never I feel
- 36:39Speaker 1: the Comedy Store has become this. It's always been legendary.
- 36:43Speaker 1: I feel like there's been like a resurgency. Oh yeah, definitely.
- 36:46Speaker 1: They all talk about like how there was a point
- 36:48Speaker 1: in time where it was just like no one went there. Yeah,
- 36:52Speaker 1: because I remember even when it happened with the like
- 36:57Speaker 1: it's it took a downfall. Like honestly, when like I
- 37:00Speaker 1: think when like the men see a Rogan thing happened
- 37:04Speaker 1: because they because Rogan got banned. It was like a
- 37:06Speaker 1: toss up between the Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory
- 37:09Speaker 1: when I first moved out here, and then I was like,
- 37:12Speaker 1: oh no, there's a difference. You ever been a Chocolate
- 37:14Speaker 1: Sundays at the Laugh Factory? I haven't fire. That's one
- 37:18Speaker 1: of the most fire shows. Let me ask you this.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Gary Owen is a white guy who does black who
- 37:24Speaker 1: does black comedy. Right, so like when you go to
- 37:27Speaker 1: a Gary Owen show, he could do Chocolate Sundays, he
- 37:29Speaker 1: could do all that ship right. Yes, you're a black
- 37:33Speaker 1: guy who doesn't necessarily do quote unquote black comedy. Yeah.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I just talked about you, just talk about you and
- 37:43Speaker 1: your experience, right, but like, when have you done like
- 37:47Speaker 1: a black comedy night? Yeah, and do they fuck with you? Yeah?
- 37:51Speaker 1: The first time I did it, man, I bombed so hard.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I bombed so hard because I can only imagine, like
- 38:00Speaker 1: it's just it's just different. It's like it is. Gary
- 38:02Speaker 1: Owen's not gonna go and like pull up and and
- 38:04Speaker 1: and do a show with Jim Gaffigan. You know, first
- 38:06Speaker 1: of all, Gary Owen has the blackest audience. Then like
- 38:10Speaker 1: some like and he's hilarious, and he's fucking hilarious. But yeah,
- 38:13Speaker 1: you're right, Yeah, yeah, some of the like like he
- 38:15Speaker 1: probably has like most of a lot of comments. Yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. He has. His audience's black. You're
- 38:22Speaker 1: not gonna see like a white person in there or
- 38:25Speaker 1: any other like it's black. I've been doing a couple
- 38:27Speaker 1: of Gary okay, never mind, Okay, well you see boutleg there,
- 38:30Speaker 1: but no, Yeah, the first time I did like an
- 38:33Speaker 1: all black room, yeah, I bombed hardest. Fuck. I was
- 38:37Speaker 1: doing a weekend and the club Runner back home in Arizona, uh,
- 38:42Speaker 1: for the clubs. I was doing this to Casey Currier.
- 38:46Speaker 1: He was like, you know, he was like building me up,
- 38:49Speaker 1: and he goes, I've seen what you can do in
- 38:51Speaker 1: this room. What can you do in this room? And
- 38:54Speaker 1: I went up there and I was like, let's do this, bro.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I fucking tanked they did. I didn't get I got.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I got three laughs at the start, the middle, and
- 39:05Speaker 1: the end. Other than that, it was the longest twelve
- 39:08Speaker 1: minutes of my life. And I was waiting for the
- 39:10Speaker 1: light and then so then but then the headliner that
- 39:14Speaker 1: I was open for, Rodney Perry, shout out to Rodney Perry.
- 39:19Speaker 1: He was like, hey man, he goes, I'm glad you
- 39:21Speaker 1: stayed you. He goes, that's good, but you're not clearing
- 39:25Speaker 1: something up immediately up top, he was like, you gotta
- 39:30Speaker 1: you gotta address that. You can't just like start telling jokes.
- 39:33Speaker 1: He goes, because the thing about black people, you know,
- 39:35Speaker 1: do like perform for black people. He goes, They got
- 39:38Speaker 1: questions about you as soon as you walk on stage,
- 39:41Speaker 1: he goes, And then he was like, you completely missed that.
- 39:43Speaker 1: You gotta say those things off the He's like, you
- 39:46Speaker 1: gotta clear it up. He goes, and then you can
- 39:49Speaker 1: say whatever you want after that because they already know you.
- 39:52Speaker 1: He goes, but they don't know you right now, and
- 39:54Speaker 1: they got questions. They're looking at you, like who's this motherfucker? Yeah,
- 39:57Speaker 1: they were like something different about him. Yeah, they know it.
- 39:59Speaker 1: They he goes. They can see he goes. He goes
- 40:02Speaker 1: as soon as you grab the microphone. They know as
- 40:04Speaker 1: soon as you grab the microphone. You don't even have
- 40:06Speaker 1: to talk yet. He's just no, he goes. You gotta
- 40:09Speaker 1: say it. He goes. So do all that like up top,
- 40:13Speaker 1: And then I remember I went home and I changed
- 40:16Speaker 1: up like my whole set and then, bro, when I
- 40:20Speaker 1: tell you I did it, I fucking did it. Oh man,
- 40:24Speaker 1: Yeah it was. It was like one of like the
- 40:28Speaker 1: like the greatest moments in my comedy career because it
- 40:31Speaker 1: was like, fuck yeah, like I saw him in and
- 40:34Speaker 1: then they have this, uh show at the store. Uh
- 40:40Speaker 1: fucking what the hell is it called on Thursday nights.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Damn it. They're gonna punch me in the face for
- 40:46Speaker 1: not knowing this one. But but it's all all black
- 40:49Speaker 1: room and uh sometimes I would get my development spots
- 40:53Speaker 1: on that room and I already knew like boom boom boom,
- 40:56Speaker 1: and like they the lady that runs it sell she
- 41:01Speaker 1: she fucking uh loves me and always gave me like
- 41:05Speaker 1: more time stuff like that, because you usual comics bomb
- 41:09Speaker 1: that room, you know what I mean. Like there's a
- 41:12Speaker 1: lot of it's like, you know, I mean, dude, black people,
- 41:16Speaker 1: but black people are the best people, the best audience
- 41:19Speaker 1: to ever perform for. I can imagine, because here's the thing.
- 41:22Speaker 1: They ain't gonna write a blog about your joke. You're
- 41:26Speaker 1: not gonna try to cancel you. They're gonna try to
- 41:27Speaker 1: cance you. Bro, if you ain't funny, They're just gonna
- 41:29Speaker 1: say it on site, not on Twitter, not on Twitter.
- 41:32Speaker 1: They're gonna tell you right there. Yeah, people be like,
- 41:36Speaker 1: oh god, pull of the coolest moments. I know. Jesus
- 41:43Speaker 1: was in the crowd run I had him dying. I
- 41:45Speaker 1: was like, yes, that's fire. Yeah yeah, it's crazy man,
- 41:48Speaker 1: it's canceled coach as wow. Bro oh bro, it's you know.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I you know, I think about it a lot, you know,
- 41:56Speaker 1: because because I try to. I just try to understand
- 41:59Speaker 1: so much because I want to understand a lot of perspectives.
- 42:02Speaker 1: I want to I want to try to like understand
- 42:04Speaker 1: and if you know a lot of times, yeah, I
- 42:06Speaker 1: don't click with it. And I think the reason why
- 42:08Speaker 1: I don't click with it because like I think my
- 42:11Speaker 1: stepfather was abusive. He was abusive as fuck, you know
- 42:13Speaker 1: what I mean. And but I don't want to go
- 42:16Speaker 1: after him, you know, I don't want to go like
- 42:19Speaker 1: because like I think about like when I went like
- 42:22Speaker 1: I went through, I had to go. I have I've
- 42:24Speaker 1: had three different anger management uh teachers and oh ship
- 42:30Speaker 1: you got some real anger. Yeah. Yeah. I went to
- 42:32Speaker 1: anger management for about eight weeks because I got yeah,
- 42:36Speaker 1: I punched a window, oh damn and uh and and
- 42:41Speaker 1: I had to go. I went to court and then
- 42:42Speaker 1: they put me. I had to go to anger management
- 42:44Speaker 1: off country club and university. I'll see it. Mine was
- 42:47Speaker 1: through like the I remember where that task is wherever
- 42:50Speaker 1: you would have to go piss. Yeah, that's ready to go.
- 42:52Speaker 1: I had to go through the schools I went to. Okay,
- 42:55Speaker 1: so what were you saying? So you were sorry? Back
- 42:56Speaker 1: to what you were saying? Oh but yeah, like okay,
- 42:58Speaker 1: So my anger management teacher, they didn't teach me to
- 43:02Speaker 1: go after people. They taught me to go after myself.
- 43:07Speaker 1: So like that's why I don't connect with trying to
- 43:09Speaker 1: cancel someone like that, Like I don't want to, Like,
- 43:12Speaker 1: you know, I don't blame my biological father for not
- 43:15Speaker 1: being around those years, right, Like I don't blame my
- 43:17Speaker 1: mom for like when she stayed with my stepdad, because
- 43:22Speaker 1: it's like, I don't know, I'd rather I'd rather, you know,
- 43:27Speaker 1: I don't know, I'd rather make my life cool on
- 43:29Speaker 1: my own than because then you're relying on other people's
- 43:35Speaker 1: choices for your happiness. Yeah, Like that's not gonna be
- 43:38Speaker 1: like like, yeah, save my stepfather, you know, Like yeah,
- 43:41Speaker 1: I want to give people a lot of power. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:44Speaker 1: exactly like you say, yeah, I went after him. You know,
- 43:47Speaker 1: he ends up going to prison for the ship blah
- 43:49Speaker 1: blah blah. How does that make you better ten years
- 43:51Speaker 1: after that? Dude? It doesn't Like it literally does nothing
- 43:54Speaker 1: for me, Like I didn't do I didn't do anything
- 43:56Speaker 1: for me. I did it because I was I don't
- 43:59Speaker 1: like but it's like what so right, you know that,
- 44:03Speaker 1: Like like I said, I try to understand everything, you know,
- 44:06Speaker 1: I try to be completely honest with everything about me.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I think that there's a lot of stuff where it's
- 44:12Speaker 1: like okay, man, there's definitely people who do shit. Yeah
- 44:17Speaker 1: you're like, okay, well you're a piece of shit, and
- 44:21Speaker 1: I mean you get aired out all day. Like there's
- 44:23Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot of that, you know that
- 44:25Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, I agree with. But then there's just
- 44:27Speaker 1: certain shit where it's like like wait, wait, like you
- 44:33Speaker 1: can't never make a mistake. Yeah, like that, Like I
- 44:36Speaker 1: was like the one I think about like a lot
- 44:38Speaker 1: is like that Kevin Hart situation, like crazy, like he
- 44:41Speaker 1: had old insensitive tweets, but like back then, like dude,
- 44:45Speaker 1: if like you know and obviously nobody likes to slure
- 44:49Speaker 1: gay people love gay people like Eminem couldn't put albums
- 44:54Speaker 1: out anymore. Oh if like we went back and like
- 44:57Speaker 1: held people to the same standards we hold them today,
- 45:00Speaker 1: well it's just like, well, the thing is like how
- 45:04Speaker 1: come no one looked post that tweet like like like
- 45:09Speaker 1: after that tweet, like why didn't anyone like look at
- 45:12Speaker 1: his life in the way he is after that? Right?
- 45:14Speaker 1: Like why did they? Why did they define him off
- 45:17Speaker 1: that something? Because if you if you looked at it,
- 45:19Speaker 1: you go, oh, he hasn't done that was the last
- 45:20Speaker 1: time he did something like that? As the person could
- 45:23Speaker 1: have put the person what the person could have done
- 45:25Speaker 1: has been like oh, man, Kevin Hart used to talk
- 45:28Speaker 1: like this and he doesn't anymore. Man, he's moving like
- 45:31Speaker 1: he grew. He grew. That's so awesome that people. But man,
- 45:35Speaker 1: we like, you know, I think a lot of people
- 45:38Speaker 1: are just because they can't go after someone else that
- 45:41Speaker 1: they I think that it's a little bit more closer
- 45:43Speaker 1: than him, so they try to I think they just
- 45:45Speaker 1: go after these people and try to make this like thing.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Me I'm I'm unapologetic as fuck. Like I mean, like
- 45:53Speaker 1: I don't like I don't have a fear of like
- 45:55Speaker 1: not being liked or not being you know, people. I
- 46:00Speaker 1: think too. What's great about like being in your position
- 46:02Speaker 1: is like you have your own platform. You're also comedian,
- 46:04Speaker 1: so it's like you're so I I want my comedians
- 46:07Speaker 1: to say offensive things. Yeah, well because like like yo,
- 46:10Speaker 1: think about the Chappelle special that came out over this
- 46:13Speaker 1: transmit and how it was it was really funny, Like
- 46:16Speaker 1: it's not coming from a place of hatred. But he's
- 46:18Speaker 1: a comedian and he's supposed to make fun of people. Yeah,
- 46:21Speaker 1: that's all people. That's the thing about comedy. The reason
- 46:24Speaker 1: why it's funny because we're saying shit differently. We're gonna
- 46:28Speaker 1: say it in a way that not everybody is thinking,
- 46:31Speaker 1: so we're always thinking of it in a different way.
- 46:33Speaker 1: And and every time a comedian writes a joke, no
- 46:37Speaker 1: comedian is writing a joke to go, man, I want
- 46:39Speaker 1: to fucking bash on these people. No comedian does that
- 46:44Speaker 1: right in a joke, because damn, that's funny. The intent
- 46:47Speaker 1: is funny. And then there what's the one guy, Uh,
- 46:50Speaker 1: what's his name? The guy who made the fucked up
- 46:52Speaker 1: Kobe joke on Twitter when he died. No, that guy,
- 46:56Speaker 1: that guy's not just not funny, Like, hey, bro, like,
- 47:00Speaker 1: what what were you thinking? But does but do I
- 47:01Speaker 1: think he deserves to get canceled? No, like he lost. Yeah,
- 47:05Speaker 1: it was a horrible joke, horrible joe joke. And even
- 47:07Speaker 1: if it wasn't a joke, like he just like he
- 47:11Speaker 1: didn't even he didn't he didn't even have to do that.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Read the room, buddy, Yeah, read the fucking room. Sometimes
- 47:17Speaker 1: you just got to read the room. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 47:19Speaker 1: But but I agree with you, like, like I don't
- 47:21Speaker 1: funk with that dude because of what he said, because
- 47:23Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, he's probably not that great of a guy. Plus,
- 47:26Speaker 1: I he fucking poisoned the Burke guy with some drugs, yeah,
- 47:32Speaker 1: which she was like, bro, what kind of guy does that?
- 47:34Speaker 1: What the fuck gave mexstausy or something without I'm all right,
- 47:38Speaker 1: we'll look. I'm just not gonna I don't have to
- 47:40Speaker 1: support the guy, but he should be able to still
- 47:42Speaker 1: go get booked. But like, here's the thing, like people
- 47:46Speaker 1: don't realize about comedians, like you got to think of
- 47:48Speaker 1: comedians as like a like like uh like TV. You
- 47:54Speaker 1: got a lot of channels. Yeah, I don't like I
- 47:57Speaker 1: don't like you know, I'm not a big friends guy exactly.
- 48:02Speaker 1: I thought Two and a Half Men was trash, but
- 48:04Speaker 1: guess what, people like it. And that's how that's how
- 48:07Speaker 1: you gotta think of comedy. So like I don't have
- 48:09Speaker 1: like like I don't like get weird. Like like I've
- 48:11Speaker 1: had like one lady you know, come up to me
- 48:15Speaker 1: after a show because she was offended by a joke
- 48:17Speaker 1: and I was just like, okay, you're at a you
- 48:21Speaker 1: should you should be off like people. She wanted a
- 48:23Speaker 1: battle and I was just like, okay, there's no point
- 48:25Speaker 1: to put any energy there. Yeah, because one I knew,
- 48:28Speaker 1: I like, I know my intentions, I know where I'm
- 48:31Speaker 1: coming from, I know who I am, and I know
- 48:34Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And first of all, you can't pick
- 48:36Speaker 1: and choose throughout my set of what you thought was
- 48:42Speaker 1: offensive or not. There'd be no time to live if
- 48:44Speaker 1: people did that with everything in their life. Oh and
- 48:48Speaker 1: there's people who do that. Yeah, they do. You know
- 48:52Speaker 1: what they're gonna do. I'll tell you what. Because I
- 48:54Speaker 1: used to be just like my anger, I used to
- 48:56Speaker 1: just pop, you know what I mean. It was just
- 48:58Speaker 1: a lot of it just because I was sensitive to like,
- 49:00Speaker 1: you know, I thought everybody needed to like, you know,
- 49:03Speaker 1: to my needs. But you know, you get exhausted after
- 49:07Speaker 1: because it because it doesn't really because I used to
- 49:09Speaker 1: be the same way where I would like, I would
- 49:11Speaker 1: like argue with people on Facebook, which is the worst ship? Oh, bru,
- 49:15Speaker 1: you're one of those people. I would I would see
- 49:17Speaker 1: some ship or somebody would try to say some slick ship,
- 49:19Speaker 1: some local rapper or something, and I would just why
- 49:24Speaker 1: am I giving energy to this ship? Because it because
- 49:28Speaker 1: I know it's so funny, because like, no conversation is
- 49:32Speaker 1: authentic over the internet. Never think about it like you didn't.
- 49:36Speaker 1: You didn't hit me up to do this podcast, to go,
- 49:39Speaker 1: hey we're gonna we're gonna do it over Twitter though
- 49:41Speaker 1: you know what I mean, That doesn't it doesn't make
- 49:43Speaker 1: any sense. So it's like you know when people like
- 49:47Speaker 1: go back and like I don't know you if someone
- 49:50Speaker 1: if someone tells me, hey, this happened, and then I go,
- 49:54Speaker 1: how do you know? Like how do you know that's true?
- 49:56Speaker 1: And then they go, We'll go look at Twitter. I'll
- 49:58Speaker 1: slap them in the face because I hate that ship.
- 50:02Speaker 1: You know, it's crazy, just is It's just also people
- 50:04Speaker 1: just get their information from these places, like and they
- 50:08Speaker 1: hang their hat on it. I have like my mom
- 50:11Speaker 1: will send me ship she sees on Facebook and I'll
- 50:13Speaker 1: be like Mom, I'm like, Mom, get the funk off Facebook.
- 50:19Speaker 1: My mom was like literally be like yo, I don't
- 50:22Speaker 1: I don't know if the coronavirus is real. Kevin. I'm like, Mom,
- 50:26Speaker 1: stop going on face. You know exactly where she was at. Yeah, like, yo,
- 50:32Speaker 1: you on Facebook? On Facebook? Mom, stay the fuck off
- 50:37Speaker 1: of Facebook. Like most old people get shipped off of Facebook. Yeah,
- 50:43Speaker 1: it's like their fucking It's like their new source, no
- 50:45Speaker 1: matter what side of the spectrum you are. Politically, Hey,
- 50:48Speaker 1: old people ruined Facebook. That Facebook is fucked up. It's
- 50:52Speaker 1: the worst that I've also that, uh deactivated or whatever.
- 50:56Speaker 1: And then it's because it's also people who you like,
- 50:59Speaker 1: actually known real life, and you're like, fuck, this guy
- 51:02Speaker 1: is a real piece of ship. Damn I knew this guy,
- 51:05Speaker 1: I mean unfollowed, Like like I know this guy in
- 51:08Speaker 1: real life. Twitter is like people you're never gonna meet.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Twitter's a joke. Yeah, like, okay, you're you're a fan
- 51:14Speaker 1: where you at? Yeah, exactly. People are real brave on Twitter,
- 51:18Speaker 1: real brave. You you were cool. Christa lear Right. I've
- 51:23Speaker 1: heard him talk about you. Yeah, what's going on with
- 51:26Speaker 1: this guy? Man? You know I don't have that information.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Have you spoken with him since this ship popped off? Man?
- 51:35Speaker 1: Because it's listen, I don't know what happened, but either
- 51:39Speaker 1: way they got just the guy did just have a baby. Yeah,
- 51:42Speaker 1: you know he's got a he's got a girl and
- 51:44Speaker 1: a baby. And you know, if if this is the
- 51:48Speaker 1: the version of what happened, is the version where he
- 51:52Speaker 1: didn't do any of this stuff, then fuck you gotta
- 51:55Speaker 1: feel I mean shit, that sucks, man. Yeah, that's what
- 51:58Speaker 1: I'm saying, like it's it's a your thing, you know.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Like that's why, like I'm not one of those people
- 52:03Speaker 1: that like, I don't jump into a group thing. I don't.
- 52:06Speaker 1: I don't think correctly. I don't I can't think in
- 52:09Speaker 1: the group format. I have to step away from ship
- 52:13Speaker 1: to like understand it from like myself, and then I go, well,
- 52:16Speaker 1: what what what is this information? What can I do
- 52:19Speaker 1: with this information? And then it's like, oh, you know,
- 52:23Speaker 1: then you kind of like, you know, dwindle it down,
- 52:25Speaker 1: you know, uh yeah, as far as that goes, you know. Yeah,
- 52:31Speaker 1: Like like that's why I had to get away from
- 52:33Speaker 1: the social media world because like like like like as
- 52:35Speaker 1: far as Twitter, like Facebook, because when you when you
- 52:38Speaker 1: go on and you just see like this ship and
- 52:40Speaker 1: this is supposed to be correct, and I'm like, bro,
- 52:42Speaker 1: I read books like why the fuck am I like
- 52:44Speaker 1: looking at this ship for you know, something correct? And
- 52:49Speaker 1: you know, I was just like, listen, you know, I've
- 52:54Speaker 1: never known him to do any of that, do any
- 52:58Speaker 1: of that? You haven't had any communication with him since
- 53:00Speaker 1: everything popped off? Yeah, I hyeah, you know, and and
- 53:04Speaker 1: and and I and I. You know, it was weird
- 53:07Speaker 1: because I hate the fact that like I was letting
- 53:09Speaker 1: social media like to find that if I should or not,
- 53:13Speaker 1: you know, whereas like, you know, and I had I
- 53:16Speaker 1: had a long talk. I had a long talk with
- 53:18Speaker 1: my my girl about it, you know, and she was
- 53:20Speaker 1: like the first dude you met in comedy, you know,
- 53:23Speaker 1: like he you know, so he was the first guy
- 53:26Speaker 1: you met in comedy. It was first guy I met
- 53:28Speaker 1: in comedy. What year was that? That was twenty eleven.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Oh wow, yeah, you met Christi Leean twenty eleven. He
- 53:35Speaker 1: wasn't even like anything. This was before he was the
- 53:38Speaker 1: Justin Bieber's favorite comedy. Yeah, yeah, this was before before that.
- 53:42Speaker 1: And so this is a guy who like did he
- 53:44Speaker 1: help did he kind of serve as a mentor at
- 53:45Speaker 1: all to you? Like in a comedy shit? Ever? Uh yeah, yeah,
- 53:48Speaker 1: he helped me out with some stuff, man, he uh
- 53:50Speaker 1: you know, he's letting me open for him, you know,
- 53:52Speaker 1: which is like, you know, he has some of like
- 53:54Speaker 1: the craziest fans, craziest fans and like the dopest audience,
- 53:57Speaker 1: you know. And yeah, man, yeah, so I've reached out
- 54:03Speaker 1: to him, and you know, my girls, like you shouldn't
- 54:05Speaker 1: feel guilty about that. Yeah, I mean like you gotta.
- 54:09Speaker 1: I mean, look, you're his friends should give the benefit
- 54:11Speaker 1: of doubt. Yeah, exactly. And then there's and and there's nothing.
- 54:14Speaker 1: She's like, there's nothing wrong with that, you know, like
- 54:17Speaker 1: you're you're not You're not a judge, You're not a
- 54:20Speaker 1: you know, that's that's not your lane. But I was
- 54:24Speaker 1: just like, you know, I reached out to him. I said,
- 54:26Speaker 1: I'm probably the you know, on the lowest, lowest part
- 54:30Speaker 1: of the tone poll of people you want to hear
- 54:31Speaker 1: from right now, But you know, I just send positivity away. Man.
- 54:36Speaker 1: So did you get tested for the coronavirus? Coronavirus? I
- 54:41Speaker 1: ended up getting it, I know. I saw that, bro.
- 54:43Speaker 1: I got two negative tests back, so I'm good now
- 54:46Speaker 1: I did get it. I went out to Arizona and
- 54:48Speaker 1: fucked off and Scottsdale, my roommate has got it. Yeah,
- 54:52Speaker 1: I think she got it when she went. She's from
- 54:54Speaker 1: Arizona as well. Yeah, Arizona is a guy in breeding ground,
- 54:57Speaker 1: so weird. Those are simp I couldn't smell. You couldn't smell, Yeah,
- 55:03Speaker 1: I had, I just have no I could taste. My
- 55:06Speaker 1: wife couldn't taste, but she could smell. No, she couldn't
- 55:10Speaker 1: do either. Damn. That was that was my roommate. She couldn't.
- 55:13Speaker 1: She couldn't taste. You didn't catch it, so you were
- 55:16Speaker 1: because you were in Brandon Brandon shop a lot. Yeah, yeah,
- 55:21Speaker 1: so I didn't catch it. Another one of my homies
- 55:23Speaker 1: had got it that I was exposed around. He had
- 55:25Speaker 1: got it. Didn't get it. My roommate it was around
- 55:30Speaker 1: her obviously. My roommate. Yeah, didn't get it. And then uh, yeah,
- 55:34Speaker 1: what's up. I didn't get it. It's yeah, let me
- 55:38Speaker 1: ask you this. Black people don't get it. I'm just
- 55:39Speaker 1: kidding because my boy beat Out Scales got it. He's
- 55:42Speaker 1: I mean, it's ship. Just kidd the gods and died anyway. Yeah,
- 55:47Speaker 1: it was just so crazy because I would always like
- 55:48Speaker 1: watch Brandon Shop talk about the mask thing. Bro I
- 55:53Speaker 1: even told him. I was like, you're talking about it.
- 55:55Speaker 1: You were talking that ship I called it. I was like, bro,
- 55:59Speaker 1: hey snapped you upside the head boy Jesus. And then
- 56:05Speaker 1: he was like he was like, I mean, he goes,
- 56:07Speaker 1: here's the thing. Yeah, I'm fine, you know, I'm good.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I knew what I was signing up for. But he
- 56:12Speaker 1: was like, you know, it's not worth it. He goes
- 56:14Speaker 1: because you know, uh, you know, he goes, I had
- 56:17Speaker 1: to record you know, my podcast at a home, like
- 56:19Speaker 1: I got to step away from your family. Yeah, he
- 56:21Speaker 1: had like he had to stay in the in his basement. Yeah.
- 56:25Speaker 1: I mean I understand that, the idea of like, you
- 56:27Speaker 1: know what, fuck it, I'm gonna do it because if
- 56:29Speaker 1: I get it, I'm gonna get it, but I'm gonna
- 56:30Speaker 1: still live my life. I don't think that's smart. It's
- 56:32Speaker 1: a little selfish, but like I get it. Like, but yeah,
- 56:35Speaker 1: even like I feel like Rogan kind of chilled out
- 56:38Speaker 1: on his like because he was on that wave too
- 56:41Speaker 1: a little bit. Well probably because he probably because I
- 56:44Speaker 1: would say, maybe because he knew more people that were
- 56:46Speaker 1: getting it. Yeah. But like yeah, even like I saw him,
- 56:49Speaker 1: he was saying, like you know he did Houston. Yeah,
- 56:52Speaker 1: he was like, dude, what it wasn't worth it? It
- 56:55Speaker 1: was not worth it. He's like, I thought I'd go
- 56:56Speaker 1: out like it's just not worth it. Like, I get
- 56:58Speaker 1: it that you did the Phoenix show. Yeah I didn't
- 57:02Speaker 1: get it there. Huh. And that weekend we had did
- 57:05Speaker 1: those shows is when a Z spiked yep. But the
- 57:09Speaker 1: way so the way uh Stand Up Life had did
- 57:12Speaker 1: it so like I said, that club seats around like
- 57:15Speaker 1: close to six hundred. Well they only they they only
- 57:18Speaker 1: let three hundred in. They used the the you they
- 57:22Speaker 1: used the whole room so like everybody so like if you,
- 57:25Speaker 1: if you were if you like only people that were
- 57:28Speaker 1: sitting by each other came with each other came with
- 57:30Speaker 1: each other, so like otherwise like and it was like
- 57:33Speaker 1: it was spread out like that. But the way they
- 57:35Speaker 1: had the lights, it didn't like we couldn't tell on
- 57:38Speaker 1: the stage like that. It looked like that, you know,
- 57:41Speaker 1: because it was like the crowds like you know, like
- 57:44Speaker 1: not lit, so uh, we couldn't tell, but it seemed
- 57:48Speaker 1: like a full room. But it's just everybody was at
- 57:50Speaker 1: a distance. Uh have you has? Have you? I Mean
- 57:54Speaker 1: I think it's inevitable you're gonna end up going on
- 57:56Speaker 1: the Joe Rogan podcast. But is that that ever been
- 57:58Speaker 1: tossed around officially? Oh yeah, we've talked about it. Yeah,
- 58:02Speaker 1: it don't happen. When it happens, and then it's over
- 58:06Speaker 1: and then it's a wrap And I'm just kidding, Like,
- 58:10Speaker 1: what's the west Wood? What's the west I am not
- 58:13Speaker 1: from masa what. I'm from Beverly Hills, Beverly. I'm from
- 58:20Speaker 1: West Hollywood, from West hollywoods pour on the wheat grass. Yeah,
- 58:26Speaker 1: I go to Creation every morning, shout I did a
- 58:29Speaker 1: juice clean That ship sucked? You did that five days?
- 58:32Speaker 1: How did you feel? You didn't feel like you were hungry? Ah? Yeah,
- 58:37Speaker 1: like like yeah I did. Oh you did? By the
- 58:40Speaker 1: I say about like the third said, it doesn't make it.
- 58:42Speaker 1: By the second or third day, I was like used
- 58:43Speaker 1: to it. So it was cool. But those first like
- 58:45Speaker 1: forty eight hours. But I also didn't. Everyone's like me
- 58:47Speaker 1: feel so good. I didn't. I was like, man, I'm
- 58:50Speaker 1: shipping like a crazy person. Like my ass like I'm good,
- 58:58Speaker 1: you know, I mean, shouts Creation, but the juice cleans,
- 59:01Speaker 1: I'm straight. Yo. Who okay, I know you're a big
- 59:05Speaker 1: Oasis fan fan. You can have dinner with either Henry Rollins,
- 59:09Speaker 1: Is it Noah Gallaghers? Did I get his name? No? No,
- 59:12Speaker 1: Gallagher would be You know, I've I've performed with Henry
- 59:17Speaker 1: and like had a good conversation with so you've already
- 59:19Speaker 1: talked to him. So it's so it's no Gallagher. That's fair. Yeah,
- 59:23Speaker 1: there's such polar opposites musically. Oh that's the funny thing
- 59:28Speaker 1: about it. We were like, how are you an know?
- 59:30Speaker 1: I'm like, it's well, okay. What people don't realize about
- 59:34Speaker 1: Oasis is that Oasis has a very punk attitude, right,
- 59:40Speaker 1: and that's why, like that's what caught my attention with him,
- 59:43Speaker 1: and like outside of Wonderwall and Champagne super Nova, most
- 59:47Speaker 1: people don't realize they have like some kind of like
- 59:50Speaker 1: harder harder ship, harder ship. Because when I was a kid,
- 59:53Speaker 1: I had the album What's the Story More? Yeah? Yeah,
- 59:56Speaker 1: great album. Yeah, great album. Yeah we had that album
- 59:59Speaker 1: of course. Yeah that ship. I mean when I grew up,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: my cousin who was in and out of prison put
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: me on the that ship like suicidal Tendencies yea, all
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: that kind of ship. But yeah, Oasis was one of
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: those bands. Wow, that's pretty white CD? Right? Yeah CD's white?
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Yeah my CD book damn of course. Hey, what's the
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: one band? What's what? Like? It's funny because I always
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: there's certain music I hear when when whenever it pops
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: up in my life, I'll be like, yo, this is
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: this is Westwood? What's like that? Like a band that
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: like you think like this was like the band in
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: high school. Oh, the band it's for me. It's always
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Authority zero. Oh, Bro Damn or Bionic Jive was Doug
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Cooper gave me that CD Damn Oh? Or there was
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: also the Funk Junkies. The Funk Junkies now, but the
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Funk Junkies were never popping like they weren't. The kids
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: in high school were bumping Authority zero. Yeah, they were
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: bumping Authority zero. But you know I listened to Authority zero.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: But that wasn't like my That wasn't your bag. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I'd say probably black Flag that was my like like
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: anytime it comes on, like I know exactly where I was,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: where I was, how I was, you know, my whole existence. Yeah, man,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: that's that's crazy. It is. So did you start to
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: get into that hardcore ship in high school or before that?
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: You cause you were said you were in a band
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: before that, right, Yeah, I start I got I got
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: in the hard core stuff in junior high Pow Patriots baby,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: yeah when I was like thirteen yo. We grew up
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: around a lot of Mormons, a lot lots of Mormons,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: lots of them. And I think that Trump being president
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: has shown me that there are much worse conservative people
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: in the world of Mormons, because yo, when I wait,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: when I moved from tight, they're tight. Because listen, let
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: me tell you something. When I moved from Sunny Slope
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: to Mesa, I was like, I was like thirteen and
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: he was in Sunny Slow first. Yeah, so I grew
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: up my cousin who went to posting a Mountain View. Yeah,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: he scared me about Mormon people. Oh. He was like, yo,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: they got cameras in every house in Mesa. He just
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: made up all this wild shit. I was like, damn, man,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: the Mormons are the ops, bro. Yeah shit. And they
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: ended up going to school with him, and like a
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: lot of the homies in school were all Mormon. They
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: were like the nice That's what I'm saying. Like Westwood
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: carried a lot of Mormon. Yeah, they were super nice.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Like a good amount of the white kids that went
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: to Westwood were Mormon, probably Mormon. Yeah yeah, and they
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: were cool, cool as fuck. Yeah. I think Mormons are tight, bro.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I got a lot of I mean yeah, we got
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: a lot of And then I just remember being in
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: high school, like you know, you like grow up in Mesa.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: There's like a big ass Mormon temple on Main Street
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: on Main Street, and like I would just always like
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: I'd be like, nah, there's no way they think that
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: this is real. And then I researched, I like, oh shit,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: they think it's dang. And then you would like have
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: your warmon homies who were kind of woke, be like, hey,
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: you really don't like the underwear thing, like I've seen
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: you drink so before. Bro, Come on, the underwear thing
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: is real, though, Bro that it's it's it's if you
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: actually cool. No, they're super cool, but god, damn, I
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: don't know if I can roll with the underwear. Well.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: They also weren't fucking with black people until like nineteen seventies.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: They weren't with black people. I think in the Book
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: of Mormon black people are called knee fights. That's tight
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: and yeah, and they weren't allowed in the church. Damn.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Yeah fights something like that. You you don't want to
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: look that up. Knees fight, I like that. Yeah. Shout
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: out to the Mormons, though, choose the right, choose the right. Uh,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: they got the cr rings up and shout out to
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: fucking uh temple lights. Steve Young's a Mormon. You I
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: mean shout out to the forty Steve Young's Mormons. Yeah
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: he went to b Yu. Oh shit, I didn't know that.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: You know what's crazy is a lot of the Mormon
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: kids in school, though, you could tell that they're like
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: grew up in like these super weird conservatives, because it'd
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: be like the kids who would like go to like
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: and do Heroin or like sniff piples bruh. Like that's
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: what I'm saying, like Mormons like or the Mormon Like
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: there was like those like two or three Mormon chicks
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: that were like blowing dudes at parties brou because they
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: were some that were either like the fucking or just
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: like just like, oh you're Mormon, Damn I've seen you
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: do some ship and yeah, and the other ones that
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: are just like there was like an era in our
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: school work. You remember when kids were going to Rocky
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: Point and getting somas and everything. Yes, everybody at Westwood
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: was so much fucking on soma's dude. So like I
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: was having a conversation with some one the other day,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: they didn't know what somas were. Bro O g muscle
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: relaxed right there. Yeah, motherfuckers in school og mustle relaxed, bro.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I remember I used to I went to eave It
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: and there was this kid named Rusty Creed. Do you
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: remember Redhead? Yeah, the redheaded kid man and I used
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: to ride from sometimes I ride from even back to
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Westwood with them because we both went to eve It
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: and this wool used to sniff so much, so much,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: really like a crazy person. I was like, dog, I
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: never got into drugs in my life. I mean, I've
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: only smoked weed. I've never even taken a pain pill.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Oh damn. Really yeah, I don't funk with it because
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: my whole family's uh you know, I grew up around
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: a bunch of drug addicts and I'm out like we
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: as chill yeah, weed alcohol. Why do people make weeds
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: such a big deal? I don't think it is anymore
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: like a big deal of how like here, like, why
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: do they make weeds such a big deal? I l
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: you just go to go to the store and just
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: buy something. I almost feel like if you don't smoke weed,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: now it's almost weird, like wait, you don't like ever?
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Like no, I never once like wait what, well you
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: know what you know what would get me? And they
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: said they changed them up edibles edibles would knock like
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: I would puke every time, but they soon but I
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: heard they changed up the Well, now it's limited I had.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: I had gone to the worst not in my life.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: I ate a whole cake pop and I was only
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: supposed to be a quarter of it. And I went
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: to a yellow Wolf concert at a club Red. What
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: year was that twenty fourteen? Yep, yeah, yellow Wolf and
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Ritz and I went to that show and I was
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: sitting on the tour bus in the back and I
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: was like, man, I don't even feel this shit. I'm good.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Went inside to watch my homie Rits perform, and all
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: of a sudden, I couldn't move. Bruh. Have you ever
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: had the experience where you're so high on an edible
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: in a crowded room and you can hear every conversation
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: if you wanted to, Like you, I could hone into
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: somebody in the middle of a concert and hear their
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: entire conversation on the other side of the venue, and
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: I'd be like, what the fuck I eat? Dude, couldn't
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: move my legs? No, bruh, I feel you. And I'm
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: like leaning on my boy like fam, I can't walk.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: He's like what you mean you're standing. I'm like no,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: but I can't move my leg can't move legs. And
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: then I start I started to hallucinate low key yeah,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: bro that like, yeah, dude, I saw Garfield the Cat
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: on stage with slot machine eyeballs, did you Yeah, but
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: you really do see something, especially if you close your
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: eyes not edible like all of a sudden, like my
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: world is like I just like I could hone in
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: on people's convers It was like I had a superpower,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: like a like a like a hearing superpower. And then
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: all the crazy shit that could happen to somebody while
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: they're in that state of mind happened that night in
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: front of my face. Because you know, you'll go to
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: like a concert in Arizona and there's like those wild
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: ass Native dudes. Oh bro, they go hard to paint.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: So this guy focks up a security guard right in
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: front of me. I'm like sitting on the side of
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: the stage at the old Club Red and I'm on
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: the one on the one one University, yeah, and I'm
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: on the couch and this guy they're just fighting in
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: front of me, and I didn't think it was real, dude,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: And then I was like I went outside and sat
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: down and the guy was outside. He was a Native dude,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: and then I started talking to him and I sent
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: some wild ill ship to him probably and he wanted
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: to beat me up. But I didn't think he was real,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: and my I thought it bro. I couldn't believe, like
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: what was going on. I was like, this is really
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: happening right now? Or am I Is it the drugs?
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: He's like it's both, but yes, it's really happening. Shout
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: to the natives. Man had to pay yo. That's the
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: one bro there at every concert rap metal. That was
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: the one thing like going to rock shows because I
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: would like love to get into marsh pits and ship
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: and CrowdSurf when I was in like high school in
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: junior high. But like the one thing I would do
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: is when a skinhead jumped in or a big native
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: dude jumped in the pit, I had to get out
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: because the motherfuckers is out for blood. They are see
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: my little white ass you I'm taking it all. Yeah
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: they're they're they're going for it, man. But yeah, you're right,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: like natives got there's such music heads, such music heads.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Yeah you haven't seen him all kinds of shows. Many,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: definitely tach nine shows, Yeah, a lot of Yeah. What
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: did I see wu Tang? I think it was like
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: eight at the Marquee. Oh yeah, yeah, I was there.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: They were all up there. I got in a fight
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: with one at a shove. Homie. What's the best non
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: rock contentry You've been to? A ship? Damn, that's a
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: that's a tough one. Gosh. Okay. I saw Kendrick before
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: he even anything right. I think he just had made Freshmen?
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Was it the Celebrity Theater the BT. I saw him
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: at Clubhouse up on Broadway, yep. That she got shot
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: up the night the Nipsey show happened. Yes, the night that. Yeah,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: I saw that show. And there's something I saw in
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: Age and Kendrick because it was my first time knowing
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: about him, and I was like, Damn, this dude is
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: like the deal. Like it was just something about his
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: energy on stage and the way he went off that
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: was just so like he had to. He had school
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Boy with him, have soul and all that stuff. Like
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: that show was dope. Snoop Dogg in the East Siders
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: was fucking That was like, is like one of those
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: guys was just like you don't gotta do much on stage.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: You snoop man Bru and he's gonna He's gonna play
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: the fucking songs. You're like, ship yeah all day. Kanye
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: West touched the Sky Tour two thousand and five at
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: the Dods. It was when it was Dodgs thead. Yeah,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: I went to that one. That one was fire. I
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: saw jay Z at uh I think that was the
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: last rap concert. I went to jay Z out here. No,
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: it was in uh fuck is the Arena? Beck Home? Yeah?
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Talk yeah, so u jay Z? That concert was fires. Yeah,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: the Kanye thing. I saw Kanye and Marquee did oh.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: That was like way back. Actually, it was so funny.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Is I think I talked to you about that probably
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: you know you were like, yes do Kanye West? I was.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: I was pushing the fun out of my boys. My
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: boy's brother had a rap group called Dilated Peoples and
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: they had a song with Kanye and they were like
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: big and I used to tag their ship up on everything. Yeah,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: little eyeball and shout to dilated man. So what's next
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: for you? Man? The pot I know that you can't
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: do stand up right now? Really, Yeah, it's a little tough.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Are you, like, is that how you're paying your bills
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: right now? What doing stand up because you gotta bills? Yeah?
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Full I mean like you're getting hit pretty hard then
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: financially right now. Not not really showing the little drugs
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: guns guns yeah no, yeah in the podcast, yeah, making
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: money off that. So you're doing the podcast full time?
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: How long have you been doing How long have you
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: only been doing content comedy where it's like the only
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: job you have, because that's got to feel good. Never
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: we're like, because right now you're full time? Oh how
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: long have I been full time comedy? I went full
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: time in twenty nineteen, and I had to feel good though, Yeah,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: summer twenty nineteen because I had got on some TV
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: show for EAT Network, and then I had gotten to
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: I I had gotten into Comedy Central's Comedy Central Festival,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: and then I had gotten to one of the biggest
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: comedy festivals in the world just for last Montreal. And
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: when I got those I was just like, all right, man,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I'm leaving this hotel job. I just like, yeah, I
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: doubled down on myself because the way things was happening,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, man like, once I
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: quit that job. It just started like you know, wow
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: hitting you know, and then uh yeah that that just
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: for last like really put me on because that's where
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: I found my my touring agents and stuff in which
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: are I'm like, a really really good So you got
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: an agent? Yeah, I got a manager and how at
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: my agent? But no, you ain't got to you give
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: me a direct? You got it? No? But yeah, like
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: in that ever since I got my agent, and they
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: were like before I even signed with them, they were like, yo,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: we got you this kid. And I saw the gig
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: and I was like, I take that because I saw that.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I saw that that paycheck and I was like, yeah,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: all right, but how often were you on the road
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: prior to the COVID thing? I was on? Yeah, I
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: was on the road a lot. I was just like
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: because you because you're headlining to now yea like in
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: different cities, which be that that festival I did have
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: put me on the map. But what's what's been what's
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: been wild is that through this COVID and being on
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: you know, King and Steam with Brennan and THEO, that
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: has like like so yeah, once it was over, you're
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: get into the bag and then you're gonna do Joe
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: Rogan and then you're gonna and then you're gonna be
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: a celebrity theater with the rotating stage. Oh yeah, I'll
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: do celebrity theater. What is is that? Like the that's
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: like the biggest comedy spot right as far as like
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: a comedy stage. I mean, actually, I fucking Rogan did
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Josh Theater or what's it called now's now some other ship,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: but that's probably America America Theater, but that's probably the biggest.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: That's probably like the biggest. Kevin Hard, Yeah, Kevin Hart
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: did it, Lea did it. Dave did it. Dave doesn't
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: do like Arena's real. Yeah, he did that that thing
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: with the flight of concords, remember, yeah, Yeah, and it
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: was at it was at the ship on the West
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Side pavilion, pavilion. Yeah. Have you met Dave Chappelle yet?
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: I did. I met him. That's a wild story because
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: for us that's our goat. Yeah Chappelle show in high
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: school Untouchable. So that was that was crazy. So I
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: was going to like audition, like the talent director for
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: the Comedy Store would have me come in like ever
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: so often, like kind of like audition to see like
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: if you wanted to move me up to like the
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: next step. And one night I was going in there
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: and uh, you know, you know, I was just rolling
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: up and I and I turned over to my left
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: and I see Dave Chappelle and I was like, oh ship.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: He just walked right up to me. He was like,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: what's up, man? And I was like, I was like,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: I'm a comedian and my first name is Chappelle. And
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: he was like hell yeah. He thought it was so cool, right,
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: and it's are you going up man? I was like, yeah,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: you know, going to And then the talent director had
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: walked up saw both of us. He goes, oh my god,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Chappelle's and I was like, that's cool. That's cool. But
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: then I was like, Dave, is it cool? Like if
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I get a picture with you? Man? Like because he
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: doesn't really do pictures now I know, I know this. Yeah,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: So I was like, can I get a picture with you?
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: He was like, Chappelle, let's take a picture. And I
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: was like, damn. Yeah. I DJed the after party for
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: that show in Phoenix, okay, the one that he did
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: in twenty fifteen. Yes, so he I went to that show.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: So he actually rented out my boys club. Fuck, who's
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: the DJ he rolls with Trauma? Trauma, Yeah, Trauma. So
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: my boy hits me, who owns Monarch in downtown Phoenix,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: and he's like, yo, you want to come in DJ
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: for Dave Chapone and his friends and this is it
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: was like a Monday night. It was an off night.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: It was yeah, what do you mean? He's like, dude
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: him and what's the uh Donnelle and no. But it
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: was also the h the guy who does all the
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: roasts was there. He was a dick. Jeff Ross. Oh,
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: that dude was a straight asshole. Was a big piece
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: of shit. I was like, bro, there's like twenty five
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: people here. I'm like, hey, what's something. You're funny and
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: he just looked at me like I was crazy. Sometimes
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: you want to just throw hands with people. But yeah, no,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: but it was kind of. It was crazy because Dave
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Schappe I was djaying and I think he ended up
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: hopping on or he was just telling me to play
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: ship and uh, he was cool as fuck. Man. He
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: took a picture he was this when he was swallo though.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah he was jacked. And then he gave me
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: his lighter. Oh Damn, I forget how like, uh lit
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: up with we were lit up with blunt or something.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: And then I want to give him his lighter back,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: and he's like, just keep it. And the lighter had
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: his logo on it, and then and the lighter said
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Chappelle's lighter got it? Oh you still got it? Of course,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: Dave Chappelle gave me his lighter and he took a
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: picture with me. But I felt so weird because look,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: I'm the type of guy who I'll pass on the picture.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: But I'm like, man, this is Dave Chappelle. I don't
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: know if I'm ever gonna be around this guy again.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: And I don't give a fuck about rappers and musicians,
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: but like Dave Chappelle, be like if I met Larry David, Like,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: I don't care if Larry David hates my guts and
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: I get on his nerves. Wherever he's at, if I
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: see him, he could be enjoying a meal with children,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna be like, hey, dude, can we get a selfie?
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: See I'm a musician, Like I geek out over musicians. See,
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck because I met them all.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: I'm desensitized to all the ship. I mean, like we
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: actually the concert question because I don't fucking all the
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: All the answers of that for me are just when
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I was a kid, when I still cared. I've been
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: to every single I've probably been to a thousand concerts
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: in my life, at least a thousand. I'm the same way.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: I've been to so many concerts that i can't remember
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: who I've seen, and then like now I'll go and
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: I'll usually be backstage and I'll be like, i just
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: don't give a fuck to go watch. I'm like, yeah, Brooke,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I've seen you ten times. What am I going to
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: see different? Yeah? Yeah, you know, like it's very seldomly
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: like where I'll see somebody for a new I'm like,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: oh ship. Yeah. Like Mac Miller was like that, Like
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: Mac every like every tour he'd get, he'd elevate because
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: he'd learn a new instrument. Dude. I know. It's crazy
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: because I've been traveling so much and like obviously if
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: you flying in and out of LA like you just
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: see yeah people. I've run into some people on my
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: flights and I'm like, damn. Like when I saw h
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: who was on one of my school boy cute, groovy,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: cute baby. Yeah, I was my boy. I was like,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: damn there he is right there. Bro, he's the ship too.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: And then I was if you're like a weirdo, he'll
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: be like, yo, you're a weird as like he's the ship.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: I had to say what's up to him? I was like,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: what's so cute? And he was like, what's up? Man?
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Like he was he was cool. He plays a lot
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: of golf. Uh. I saw the baby on the flight.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: I just say, what's up to Baby's a good gay man.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: I was like, you know, because video I've seen what
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: you're doing, either that or a security I was like, bro,
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: you say to your songs you ain't friendly. Brother. The
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: baby killed somebody of Walmart, I know, like b like
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: real deal. I'm like, bro, he killed some somebody came
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: at him in Walmart and he smoked him. Hey shit,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: I know nobody can say shit about that guy. Ever.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: Oh no, like I killed somebody, no one can say
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: about him, or fifty or fifty fifty one of those
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: people know what can say shit about? There's someone else
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: I'm not thinking of. That's gotta be Oh fat Joe.
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: Fat Joe probably has the uh. Probably the single most
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: notorious violence against other famous people rap sheet and hip
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: hop history. Really that people like, yeah, oh yeah, there's
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: like Fat Joe. I mean yeah. I remember when I
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: first interviewed him. I was so excited because I was like, Yo, Joe,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: like you the real deal. Fam. People don't know this
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: because they be hearing what's love with a shanty and ship.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: But like Fat Joe was out here kidnapping DJ's in
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: the nineties, damn and fucking getting motherfucker sliced up bro
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: like other rap like bro like Cuban Cuban Link, the
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: guy who was in Terror Squad who Fat Joe or
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: who Punk put on. They ended up having a beef
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: and Cuban Link he got his whole face cut up
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: like fat his whole ship got fucked up. Fat Joe
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: ain't the one. Fat Joe is not the one. He had.
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: He beefed out with uh Roy Jones Junior at a club.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Ain't got no fear. Yeah, Fat Joe's one of them.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Ones Man Noriega to Norriaga shot Prodigy in his ass
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: from My Deep, Norriy shot him. Noriel was one of
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: those guys too. But now you know Norrid because he's yeah,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: he's hilarious up Doriega back in the day. Man, Really,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: there's a mom I'm trying to think who else is
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: like the scariest guys where I'm like, you know, it's funny,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: Like I definitely think his music is horrible, and the
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: guy's mastered this internet. Man, he's funny. Oh. I cannot, like,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: I'll never endorse him as an artist ever because he's
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: like what he stands for is like goes against what
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: I came up with, and like, you know, I've been
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: around a lot of in the street world, a lot
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: of my life with a lot of my people, and
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: I can't but god damn if he has not mastered
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: the age we're in, the trolling and the Internet. Like, bro,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: this guy gets under people's skin, which is so weird.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: It's so weird like that he's under Meek mills skin
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: something crazy and Meek Mill shouldn't even acknowledge him. Yeah,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: and he's all, man, it's so yeah, it's so weird
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: to watch like when people, like, when people get upset
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: about it, I'm like, y'all said, like you know whatever,
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: Yeah he was like he's yeah, yeah, he dropped that video.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I was like this motherfucker's just like like a TV
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: series that sort of. God, dude, I said this before
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: he got out of jail, Like, I definitely didn't think
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: he was gonna be like this as far I knew people,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: I knew whatever his first look was was gonna be big. Yeah.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: But whenever they make his like life movie about this
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: whole trial and like all that, it's gonna be fire.
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: He was putting hits out on people, I was like,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: is he untouchable right now? I mean, I think he's
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: got fed security, so I think, like because he's a
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: technically in the witness protection program, but he gets out
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: of it in August. In August. But they just said
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: today that he hired twenty two X cops as a
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: security ass force. So he's got twenty two. Imagine how
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: much money that is. Imagine if you're paying one hundred
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: thousand dollars for each one of those guys a year.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: And that's on a low end, because those guys know
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: they're signing up for some bullshit. So you move, you
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: want me to go protect a snitch, you have to
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: pay me two hundred thousand. He's gonna spend at least
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: five to ten million a year on security, which is crazy.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: He makes that much money Yeah, off pro I don't Yeah,
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: I don't know how the music world like so talk
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: about it like this. He got an advance I think
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: when he was in jail. He signed like a twenty
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: five million dollar contract or something like that. He did
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: when he was in jail, so they knew did the
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: guy named is Elliott Grange. He is the same guy
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: who uh has Trippy Red under his label. Yeah, so yeah,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: they already they bagged him out. And now you got
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: to realize, like the thing he fucked himself on was
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: most rappers now make money off of shows because like touring, Yeah,
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: like touring is like probably the biggest source of revenue
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: for artists, Okay, because your music doesn't sell like he
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: used to. Yeah, but he off the rip, fucked off
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: his He fucked up being able to go on tour
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: because he made enemies in every city. So he if
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: you notice he never went on a six nine tour
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: and he never did Rolling Loud. They wouldn't book him
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: because he was a big liability because my boys do
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Rolling Loud, Like he never got put on those lineups
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: or he never did Hot ninety seven summer James. Well,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: that's why he was like come out in surprise. Yeah,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: they'd have to sneak him in the venue. Yeah. And
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: so like he never did any festivals. He never got
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: his festival bag. Yeah, he never did a tour. He
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: only would he'd go in and do festivals in Russia. Wow.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: So like he's gotta be making I mean off of
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: YouTube and his music. Shit, you would hope he's making.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: I don't know, dude, because it doesn't make like like
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: I can't even make it make sense because even if
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: he took that twenty five million, he's got to recoup that. Yeah,
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: So I don't know if he I don't know, but
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: yeah I think I don't know, dude. I think the
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: music is asked Cheeks to be honest. His music, Yeah,
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: it's pretty bad. I mean yeah, like there's worse music.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: For the record, there's worse music. There's worse that's like, yeah,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: it's not something I take serious, but it is like
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: it's not great. It's like I mean, like it's cute,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: like it's like TikTok music. Yeah, you're just like, oh okay,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: it's just like something catching for the moment. What do
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: you think of like comedians who like are popping on
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: social media, but not necessarily stand up comedians stay in
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: their lane because there's like guys like what like Haha Davis.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: I actually don't know those guys. Oh I don't. I
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: don't know, but you know what I'm talking about. There's guys. Yeah,
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: I don't King Bach he did more of a YouTuber.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: But so those those guys, I've never I've never seen
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: their stand ups. I can't. I don't think they do
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: stand up. I hope not. I mean, I don't know.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Let me tell let me tell you something. I tell
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: you this. Do you like like frown frown on those
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: guys media you get in front of get on fucking stage. No,
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: not at all, because like a rappers that you can freestyle,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: you know. No, I think it's I mean, they found
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: they found it through that, you know. I don't think
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: it's I don't think it's wrong. I don't think it's incorrect,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: you know, like because you gotta think. You know, there's
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: a lot of people that you know, kind of want
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: like they want their dreams to like to have their
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: own TV show or be a movie. But you know,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: somehow they found this way through the online world that
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: they don't need a producer, these these people or anything
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: like that, so they just make these clips, they make
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: these things, you know, which is just entertaining, you know. Yeah,
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: I mean I'm entertained by I mean a lot of
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: the Instagram guys are so funny to me. But yeah,
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: I just always wonder, like because they're technically comedians, because
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: they make people aught for a living, but they're not
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: comedian comedians. Yeah, like they're not stand up. Yeah, I
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: feel like stand up. Here's the thing about stand up.
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: Stand up is one of the hardest things to do
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: because you literally the only way you can know how
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: to do it or doing it is by doing it.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: You can't practice. There's no practicing with it. You you
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: the only way to do stand up is to do
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: it is to do it in front of an audience. Yeah,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: you gotta up in front of everybody. You gotta and
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: that you have you have to accept that and that,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: like the thing is is like Instagram or you know,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: yeah I'm not and that I'm not bragging all this.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: What I'm saying that like you can edit, like you
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: can do these things to it to make it. You know,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: this funny thing you got noice like it's right there,
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: like it's like right in your face, you know, like
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: you're getting the judgment right there. You know. That's like
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: someone painting a picture and they have someone on there
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: like behind them just like ooh ah, or like yeah
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: that's tight, you know what I mean, Like that's what
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: it's like. You know. I got an approach to do
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: any specials because Netflix is doing a lot of comedy specials. No,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: not yet. I wouldn't do one right now. You gotta
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: wait it out. I wade that. Get your wait up
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: a little. Yeah, I'd rather people know who I am,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: like I wanted to do well, Yeah, I don't want
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: people like I don't want to drop well, No, there's
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: fucking something Netflix specials that will pop up on who
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: the fuck is this guy? Yeah, there's something that will
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: like you know, I'll be like really confused, like I
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: would not heard of this guy I'd like to think of.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: That's that's just not the move I would want to make. Yeah,
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: it's I mean, yeah, it sucks because like like Bill
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: bur didn't do a special till he was like I
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: think almost I think he said almost fifteen or twenty
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: years ago. Bill Burr is one of my favorite comedians. Man, Yeah,
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: salute to Bill Burr. Man shout out to break in
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: bad man, bail fucking bear. You know it's funny. My
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: wife I try to watch her watch the stand up
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: and she always says, because my wife's Maxican, she always
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: says awesome white people shit that she ain't funny. But
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: guess what she loves f's for family, Oh she does.
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: And so she's like two seasons in and I'm like, hey,
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: you know that comedian that you hate that I try
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: to watch with you, Bill Burr. He's like yeah. I
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: was like, you want to watch him tonight? She's like
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: I was like, let's watch. Let's watch like his last one.
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: Like come on, No, he's not fucking funny. Are you
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: sure he's not funny? Are you sure? I'm sure? Well
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: you're fucking He fucking is the creator of the show
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: you love and he's the voice of the main And
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: then I was like, listen to the dad on that
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: show speak yeah, oh yeah, it's the same guy. That's like, ah, fuck,
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: it is him, you know what. I was like, he's funny.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: You know what's so funny about Bill Burr? He got
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: his strength and every and every A lot of comics
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: say this, you gotta do black rooms because black rooms
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: will give you the most authentic reaction out of any
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: other room and there, and they're just gonna be completely
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: honest if you suck, and if you're good, like if
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: you suck, like I said, they let you know on sight,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: but like if you're good, they're gonna fuck. They're gonna
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: rock with you. And it's like, and I think that's
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: like the best Bill brid got into that, like where
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: he was oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's like he's hilarious. Man,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: that's like like where he like got like I mean, yeah,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: it is a strange thing because yeah, like you know
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: what's funny is like I never thought Crystal leia stand
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: up is that funny. I can see that. I mean
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: it's like and I like his podcast, like just him
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: watching him talk about ship. I could runt of his laptop,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: but I never thought his stand up was that funny.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: And I kind of computed that to like, this is
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: just some white comedy. Like I could understand my wife
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: watching Crystillia and being like this isn't funny. Yeah yeah,
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: but I know, like I could paint you a picture
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: of the motherfucker, it'd be Justin Bieber honestly. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: that's his favorite stand up. It makes sense. Yeah it's
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: not for me. Yeah, but yeah, I mean and like
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: I said, I enjoy his I mean, do you think
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: I can cancel the I enjoy his podcast. It's over now.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: I don't know, but yeah, no, it's I don't fucking know.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: I mean whatever, but yeah, no, it's it's funny because like,
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: like you said, like I think there are certain people
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: who are so funny it doesn't matter who they're in
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: front of. Bill Burr's universal, and he's that guy. He's
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: that guy. He is universal bro hystericals like if you
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: could make a hood ass crowd laugh bruh, and then
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: you can make a bunch of Trumper's laugh. Yeah you're
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: a goat. Yeah, which is crazy. Anyway, Look we're wrapping
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: up the podcast. What is your social media? Oh? I
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: just do Instagram at Chappelle Lacy, not Twitter. I have it,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: but I don't like Yeah, and then your your podcast, Yeah,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: my podcast it's managed, which is where I talk about
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: all my ship, oh my craziness that goes up in
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: my head. So I don't are you gonna are you
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: are you gonna start doing any guests or anything. No,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: it's Brendan helped me. Yeah, Brendan helped me come up
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: with the concept because I was like, I don't know
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: if I want to do a podcast. He was like,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: he goes, why don't you just talk out your journal?
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: He goes, you journal every day? Why don't you just
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: talk about that ship in there? And I was like,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: oh yeah. And then ever since I started doing I
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: get like this response from people like that I didn't
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: even think because I don't have like I'm not pushing
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: no agenda, I'm not doing anything like I'm just talking ship.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: But people just yeah and they say how much like
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: it's opened their eyes to things and like helped them
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: like change their lives and like that crazy all that
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: ship and it's just me talking about like all my
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: internal pain that i've like you know, deal with or
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: have dealt with, you know, and just but like I
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: don't make it like just this somber, like you know
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: kind of thing. It's like I make it like like
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: I talk about it in a fun way because yeah,
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: you know, I ain't sad, but you're also a comedian. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: And then what you don't know when when you guys
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: are gonna be doing more King and stings in person,
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: I'm assuming. Yeah he's good now, he's good now. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: we recorded the other day. Those get released every Thursday,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: Thursday night at nine nine. Uh whatever the what is
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: this specific specific yeah, specific time whatever. So check you out.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: You're on the King's Team podcast. Yeah, it's managed Chappelle Lacy. Yeah,
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: this was great. Not Chappelle Harris. I know that's so funny, man,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: you Chapel. I just haven't I literally haven't heard anyone
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: say that lips. Yeah, check those out to ride into
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: your girl's d MS. No, you have a girlfriend, I kidding.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: Yeah I know
