- speaker-0: Hey, welcome back in Average Home Theater. speaker-1: Hey, what's up everybody? speaker-0: I am Nelson. speaker-1: Hey, it's producer Nick. What's going on, speaker-0: don't think introductions are really necessary anymore. mean, we're like big time now. We're almost at 400 subs. speaker-1: Yeah, the people, the people know what they're tuning in to see at this point. speaker-0: I mean, the people have spoken, you know. speaker-1: 400 people, almost 400 people. speaker-0: After four years, we're getting there. We're almost there. speaker-1: Which reminds me, watched the, you and, ⁓ Jamie Ray's faith five time travel movies. I watched that this morning. I hadn't, I hadn't gotten around to watching it yet. I watched it this morning and it was pretty, ⁓ pretty enjoyable. I wish there would have been video. I don't know what happened. speaker-0: I mean, him and I did an entire episode. ⁓ which one was it? I think it was, was it our, was it our creature feature one that we did? Well, we had to completely redo it because I kept waiting. I was like, dude, when's the episode dropping? When's it going to drop? And he's like, I'll get to it. And then he's like, I don't know where it is. And we had to, we had to rerecord it. speaker-1: Technical difficulty. Yeah, I was I was at the I've been trying to do something about myself lately I was at the gym and when I'm on the on the the elliptical whatever I like to watch something because it helps the time go by a little bit faster So I turn on the video saying man, they're being a really really still but there was there was no video. Yeah speaker-0: So today we're doing time travel movies. speaker-1: Like these these guys suck. They're not even moving. But yeah, no, it was good, though. Y'all did a great job on that one. I think y'all y'all didn't have any any picks that were the same, which I thought was kind of. speaker-0: closest we had was Terminator 2 and Terminator. speaker-1: Yeah, yeah. So it was a it was a good list. It did his purpose. It helped me help me pass the time. So and I am a little speaker-0: going to oh I'm sorry you were still talking speaker-1: I was just gonna say I'm a little upset because I realized today that I missed the festival last weekend for the like 10th year in a row. speaker-0: I know, I know. Jeff would write off terrain didn't miss it though, because he's one of the big wigs that runs it. So he was all up in it. speaker-1: That's awesome. That's awesome for people that like it. It's just, just not my thing. speaker-0: It's not awesome for us. Because we're a couple of nerds who like to sit in our house and watch movies, which is what we are going to talk about. speaker-1: Yeah, it's a beautiful day outside. It's perfect for sitting in and watching a movie. speaker-0: Exactly dude it's gorgeous outside and it's a perfect day to sit in my pajamas watch movies because I watched two today and then do this wrap up with you because it's already May so we're gonna do a little April wrap up even though it's more of a guess beginning of the year wrap up I think the last time we did it was February or something speaker-1: Yeah, man. 26 is a quarter of the way over. A third of the way over. Man. speaker-0: What is a new movie that you watched recently? speaker-1: So I've watched some movies that were new to me, but the newest movie I've watched this morning, I watched Bagonia with Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. So this is a fairly new movie. I don't want to say a whole lot about it. It had seen, I didn't know anything about it going in. I had read like a brief description on IMDB, whatever, but it was Jeff from Red Dog Terrain, I believe, that had texted us and said, Y'all need to watch it. It's pretty good. And I think Mark agreed, said it was pretty good. So it kind of perked me up a little bit, perked up my radar. We were hanging out last night, you and I, and we were talking about doing something today and I hadn't watched anything new so that that was the new thing that I watched and I watched it this morning. I liked it. You and I have pretty similar tastes, but I do not know if you're going to like it or not. I want you to watch it. speaker-0: I do want to watch it. I've been very interested. speaker-1: Yeah, I do want you to see it and I'm very, very anxious to know if you're, you're going to like it or not, because I don't know. You're either going to, I think you're going to like it or you're to hate it. I think you're going to, I don't, I don't know. I like. speaker-0: premise. I know they kidnap her because they believe she's like an alien and, all of that. So I know the basic premise of it is very interesting. speaker-1: Yeah, and that's, that's all I knew going in. speaker-0: Didn't she win an Academy Award for it? speaker-1: believe she did. And that's I was going to say. The performances were awesome. Jesse Plemons was awesome. Emma Stone was awesome. There's one other character. There's one other kind of main character, but it's just basically the three of them, the entire almost two hour runtime. And they nailed it. The acting was great. The music was really good. The music was, the score was very kind of cinematic and fantastical added a lot to the to the movie. I enjoyed it. I did not know what was going to happen. They kind of make you think a couple of different things. Hey, Henry, they kind of they kind of make you think a couple of different things and then you really don't know what's going to happen and some stuff occurs. I just I can't say I can't say too much. Yeah. And it's. speaker-0: away. speaker-1: Like I really genuinely did not know. knew what was going on, but I did not know what was going to happen. And it was, I enjoyed it. I think there's aspects of it that you are not going to like maybe, but I, I'm pretty good at separating. And it's just a movie. I really liked it just for the performances alone. I think you'll like some aspects of it. Some maybe not so much, but ⁓ I thought it was great. I'm right there with Jeff and Mark. I really enjoyed it. speaker-0: That's kind of what I've gathered because I've seen some reviews on YouTube and it's one of those, it's a, a technical level, like it's a very well done movie, but there's some people who thought it was great and there's some people who are like, speaker-1: Right. And I get that. I get that. get both sides of it. I mean, watching Emma Stone do her thing for a couple of hours and interacting with Jesse Plemons, they were both phenomenal. speaker-0: Okay, well, I'm definitely gonna have to watch it. speaker-1: Just for that, it's something you have to watch. Whether you like it or not, we'll see, but it's something that I think you need to watch. But that's really the only new thing I've watched recently. Okay. Yeah. What'd you get? What'd you have? speaker-0: So I watched Send Help with Rachel McAdams. It was directed by Sam Raimi. Basic premise, she works in an office. Her boss is a douchebag, treats her like crap. They get on a plane to go for a meeting and they take her with them because they know that she's really good at her job even though they don't like her. And they want to replace her with like the hot girl. speaker-1: Mm-hmm. speaker-0: trying to pretend that Rachel McAdams is not hot is hard to do, even though they try to make her not attractive, but she's still hot when they try to make her not attractive. So it's a little weird there. speaker-1: I fell in love with her and wedding crashes. I feel like she was like stemming in that. Yeah. speaker-0: So the plane crashes and they, her and the, the douchebag boss end up on an Island together and he's, he's injured. She's not, but she ⁓ had auditioned and act and tried out for the TV series survivor. So she had learned. You know, basic survival skills, right? And so she is helping keep him alive at the same time. speaker-1: And that's. speaker-0: You know, she's building the shelters and she's hunting and all of that. So once again, there, there are a couple of twists in the movie that ⁓ give away. I can't say too much, but it's, it's okay. It is worth a watch, but I'm not going to own it. I'm probably never going to watch it again. The, the, the couple of twists that there are, one of them I saw coming and the other one I didn't. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: So, you know, it's kind of, and I mean, it's, okay. It's, it's not a bad movie by any stretch, but I can see why it's, it's kind of considered meh, you know, it just, I don't know. speaker-1: How can one watch this movie? How'd you watch it? Or how can I watch it if I need to watch it? speaker-0: Well, I watched it on a website. speaker-1: Hey, you watch it. Okay. So you streamed it. speaker-0: That is not to be named. Correct. speaker-1: I got you. Okay. So I forgot to mention begonias on Netflix. It just came on Netflix. I'll keep an eye on that one. But going Yeah, I'm not it's not something that I'm gonna buy. But I would watch it again if that if that helps. speaker-0: Yeah. Yeah. mean, the fact that you're willing to watch it another time speaks a lot. speaker-1: And Not something that I have to own, I would definitely want you to get. OK, cool. What's speaker-0: other one I just watched was Apex on Netflix. This one I... What's his name? Joel Eggerton Charly Steron? Is that his name? He was Eggsy in the Kingsman movies. speaker-1: Enjoy the moment. Yeah, I remember him from that and he was Uncle Owen in one of the Star Wars prequel movies. speaker-0: on No, no, no, no, no. speaker-1: That's not the same guy. see. the people, we're going to give the people the facts. speaker-0: Taryn Egerton. speaker-1: Okay, yeah, that's the guy from the Kingsman movies. speaker-0: Yes, Taryn Egerton. Excuse me. I had the wrong name. speaker-1: No, it's okay. speaker-0: He is playing the person who is, and it's not giving it away. Cause I mean, it's all over in the trailers. He's hunting Charlize Theron. This movie is, I love people hunting people movies. You know that we've watched a couple of them together. You like the hunt. So I enjoy those types of movies. It's the age old story. It's been around forever, but everybody puts their, their own little spin and their own little take on it. And this one, it kind of dips into that horror. speaker-1: Mm. speaker-0: genre at one. There's this kind of reveal. did see one aspect of it coming. The other I didn't, but predictable, but not super predictable, but it's just, once again, it's just kind of okay. Charlize's character is not the most likable person. Eric Banner is in it at the very beginning. He's in it for like 10 minutes. speaker-1: Okay, you don't hear a lot from him anymore. Great. Yeah, he really is. He really is. Hector. Yeah. speaker-0: I it's good. So yeah, it's a good movie. worth a watch. It's on Netflix. But I think they just kind of missed it a little bit. just doesn't quite get there. The performances are good. It's just meh. Yeah, it's just meh. speaker-1: Something to put on maybe on a rainy day when I can't decide on something else to watch. speaker-0: It's not very long, an hour and a half or hour, minutes, whatever. So it's not, it's not like it's going to take too much of your time. And it is kind of fun. know, his performance is good. Charlize is, is, is, is good too. For a woman in her mid fifties, she's still quite attractive. I mean, she's a, I think she's a weirdo. speaker-1: I'm with you though. I do like you said I like people hunting movie Yeah, and I had seen that like on on Netflix. I'm check that out. Maybe soon speaker-0: It's so, it just gets old. Everything is just meh now. You know, it's like we need, we need to start getting some good movies again, man. Something that we can say, ⁓ man, that was awesome. I mean, when was the last one? I mean. speaker-1: That's why I've been, I've been just rewatching stuff that I know is awesome that I like because if I'm going to spend my time watching something, I want to spend some of my time watching something that I know I'm going to enjoy. And I haven't said that though. I've watched a couple of things recently that are new to me, not new, but new to me. We talked about, I watched unforgiven finally. I got on a little Western kick after we watched old hen. speaker-0: Yeah. ⁓ Henry speaker-1: I watched Unforgiven during the week and I enjoyed it. Not what I thought it was going to be. And I honestly didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, but I did enjoy it. I did like it. And I do see why it's considered one of the great modern Westerns. think Clint Eastwood's last Western, if I'm not mistaken. speaker-0: And then we say modern Western. I mean, it's still in the 90s, isn't it? I mean, it's not that modern. speaker-1: Yeah, no, not that modern, but it's not like an old spaghetti. Yeah, but I liked it. It took some turns that I wasn't expecting. I did not like to, I did not expect to not like Clint Eastwood at the beginning of the movie. did not. ⁓ Well, I didn't like the character. I didn't like the way he was written and I I just wasn't crazy about him, but that, changed during the course of the movies. I was expecting, I mean, can, can we do. speaker-0: spaghetti western right not a likeable person, he's a terrible person. speaker-1: kinda spoilers on this because it's kind of an older movie. speaker-0: We're not worried about unforgiven. speaker-1: Like the young guy that they hook up with, I thought for sure he was going to get it in the end. He didn't. Morgan Freeman ends up dying and then then Clint Eastwood hits the whiskey and he turns things on. So it got better. It got better as I ⁓ I I watched it. speaker-0: And I mean, Gene Hackman. I mean, come on. speaker-1: Gene Hackman stole the show. Gene Hackman. It was the Gene Hackman movie. But I had gotten it on. I got the 4K. I don't know if that's going to be backwards or not. It looked it looked sounded good. It looked OK. I kind of expected it to look a little bit better, but there were certain shots. They're riding through the fields and it's dusk in the silhouette it against the sky and all that. The wide shots that looked really good. speaker-0: No, it's not, it's good. speaker-1: Yeah, I- speaker-0: 4k as well. mean that was very early on in the in the 4k restorations. So it's probably you know maybe could have been a little bit better. I haven't popped it in years so I don't really remember what it looks like. speaker-1: Yeah, it was good though. It inspired me to, ⁓ I have a couple of things coming. I've been spending way too much money on. speaker-0: It's wild. There's been a lot coming out. mean, there's been a lot of good sales, but then there's a lot of just new physical media that's being released. And I'm all for it, man, because we had a little bit of a lull for a couple of years and in the last probably year and a half, it's been on the uptick. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We went, we went shopping. You and I last night went kind of browse a couple of local places and as we're, as we're browsing, we're pre-ordering stuff on Amazon and putting stuff in our Amazon courts. But, uh, that was part of a hall I got also ordered in the Western world. I ordered three 10 to Yuma and I also, I also ordered a hostiles. speaker-0: Have you seen either one of those? speaker-1: No, I haven't seen either one of them. They're, they're both highly recommended by, well, I know you loved hostiles. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: And then we'll see. We've been talking Westerns at work, too, and I've also been told that I have to watch the outlaws, Josie Wales. So I got that one on order also. speaker-0: only seen Hostiles once and it's a very good movie. I've seen, say, so the first time I saw 310 to Yuma, I'm pretty sure I went to see it in the theater because it was right after the Batman stuff with Christian Bale. When you watch, I remember watching the trailer, they make it look like Christian Bale is like this badass, right? And when you're watching the movie, that's not at all what's going on. So I remember being a little disappointed in it, but watching it again and understanding completely what the movie's about. It's awesome. speaker-1: Yeah. One is a great Christian's bail. Christian Bale was at his height around that time and Russell Crowe and that that's that's right there to draw me in. Ben Foster. I forgot he's in. ⁓ Yeah. He's been foster doesn't get enough credit to me. Or maybe he does. We just don't hear about it. But maybe he's in. speaker-0: What was it hell or high? ⁓ speaker-1: Water is what comes to mind for me. speaker-0: Yeah. So you know how he's a little cuckoo, a little crazy. A little bit. you just kind of take that and make him a, I don't know, a gunslinger in the old west. speaker-1: I love it. ⁓ OK. That's what I'm getting. I'm getting a picture. I'm getting a. speaker-0: getting a picture. It's a really good movie. Much better than the first time I saw it because I went in thinking it was going to be this and it was this. speaker-1: That that happens to me a lot. We talked about that last night when we were shopping, when we found the the history of violence. The first time I saw that I did not like it at all, but I was expecting one thing and got something else. Waited a couple of months, watched it again and I loved it. So, that happened to me. Awesome. speaker-0: Yeah. First time I saw that, I loved it. I think I went into it not knowing anything. I just put it on one day and I was like, holy crap, this is awesome. know? Yeah. speaker-1: So yeah, that's a good one. speaker-0: So when we did our to die for review, we talked about, wanted to watch Eyes Wide Shut because of Nicole Kidman. Well, I watched it. And that's kind of an example of, I thought it was this and it ended up being this. I thought the movie was centered around the secret society sex group thing. That's what I thought the movie was about. speaker-1: Right. speaker-0: And it's not. speaker-1: Yeah, it's more about the... speaker-0: It's upon it. He, yeah, he goes and he, he discovers it and he's not supposed to and blah, blah, blah. So those of you more than likely have seen the movie know what I'm talking about, but that's not what at all it's about. It's about him and his wife and their marital issue. She confesses the sexual fantasy she has and it kind of drives him a little crazy and he goes out and runs into an old friend who tells him about this crazy party and He goes to the crazy party and that's the underground whatever. Anyway, it's, it's a weird movie. I'm not going to say it's not good. It's just, I think it's a strange way to tell that story about a couple. I guess I just, the subject matter, I just don't care about. I don't care about, I just think it's weird. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: And I don't know if it's because I'm getting older and I'm in a different place in my, in my Christian faith. So it just hits different than it would have, you know, maybe 25 years ago. speaker-1: Yeah, if you would have seen it on release, it might have been a different, different. speaker-0: It might have been a little different, you know, but now it's like to me, I just see a bunch of heathens and it just bothers me. So speaker-1: I just wonder what the point, like what was the point, like what was the speaker-0: I it was more about exposing this underground group. Like I really thought that's what it was about. And that's not at all what it's about. It's just, ⁓ it exists and you shouldn't be here and go worry about your family. And I was like, ⁓ okay. I don't know. And it's like over two hours long and Stanley Kubrick, you know, quirky directing style. I just, it's not a bad movie per se. Just, yeah, I'll never watch that again. speaker-1: Yeah. And I, we had talked about it last time. I saw it a long, long time ago. And even back then, if I don't ever see it again, I'm okay. I'm good. Yeah. I don't, I don't have much of a desire to watch it again. Yeah. I mean, I'm just looking at my list of things I watched up. I watched the babysitter on, speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: Nevermind. I was going to make a joke, but I'm not anymore. I watched the babysitter and the sequel to the babysitter called the babysitter killer queen on Netflix. Those had come recommended by you. were, those, they were okay. They were fun. Some, ⁓ it was horror comedy, Samara weaving. She's on my, ⁓ on my list as being one of my favorites to watch after watching ready or not and ready or not to, she was great in it. My only complaint was that especially the first one. speaker-0: on movies. speaker-1: Felt like she wasn't in it as much as maybe I thought she would have been since she's the babysitter and it's called the babysitter. It was a little bit. So this is another one where I went in not knowing what to expect at all. I was thinking that she was the babysitter for this kid. They show him getting bullied and I was thinking like she was gonna step in and have to whip some ass and protect him from something. Like the parents went out of town and maybe there was gonna be a burglary or something. But that wasn't it at all. She's the protagonist and she's an evil death cult thing. Antagonist. was the so that was that was surprising. I that was the part that I enjoyed about it the most is that I had no idea what was coming. And as we were watching it, I'm like, what the hell is going on? So that was fun. And then the second one was saying it was pretty good. The second one has, you know, Ortega in it and. speaker-0: And so that was. Yeah, that's the first time I ever saw her was that movie. speaker-1: Really? speaker-0: Yeah. Yep. I didn't know who she was. just I saw the sequel and I was like, oh, this girl's kind of cute and but had no idea until she started like gaining traction after that. I was like, oh, that's that girl. OK. So, that's the first time I ever saw her. speaker-1: She's been kind of typecast after that. But I mean, that's what she does. She does it very well. Yeah, I like them both. I like the first one a little bit better. The second one didn't get reviewed nearly as well, but I thought it was fine. thought it didn't. speaker-0: He ends up helping him, right? In the second one towards the end, Samara Weaving's character kind of comes around. speaker-1: It ties in. Well, it ties into the first first movie you think she's being it because she's doing all this terrible stuff because she's evil. But they tie everything together at the end of the second movie. And you realize that's not what was going on at all. She was. speaker-0: Probably the original intent and then the movie was popular enough and everybody liked her enough. They had to have some type of redemption. they, right, you know. speaker-1: Right. So I did think that like the two movies together worked really well together the way they tied the story together and all that. So I watched those two. I watched, I watched the running man, the new running man with what's his name? Glenn. speaker-0: You could have said that in your new stuff. speaker-1: Yeah, but it sucked. I didn't want to, I didn't really want to. I, so look, the, was one thing I thought was that it was, was different from the first movie. I've never read the book. You read the book and you had said that this second movie was supposed to be more true to the book. That might be the case. I don't know. Cause I've never read it, but it was very, very different from the first movie. speaker-0: I think Pretty much the only thing that's the same is his motivation for wanting to be on The Running Man was his daughter was sick. He didn't have any money. It's dystopian, the rich are rich and the poor are poor. But I think that's about where it ends. Everything else is similar to the novel and sim... but it's, it's still too action-y, I think. speaker-1: One of the differences in this one is that it's a month long competition. So is the book like that? speaker-0: Yes, it's 30 days. This is a survive for 30 days. It might be 10 days, but anyway, it's several days. It's not like four hours or whatever in the on. speaker-1: That's how maybe. Well, this new one, it's a 30 day competition. He's got to survive for 30 days. He can go anywhere. He can go anywhere. As long as he can get there, he can go there. Killian was, so in this one, Killian was like the head of the station or whatever, but he wasn't the show. So, it seems like they made enough changes towards to make it. I can see why they would have said that it was more like the novel, more true to the novel. speaker-0: And he could go anywhere in the U S right. now. Yeah, they took certain aspects and made it more like the novel, but it's not like the novel. The novel is not an action. There's a couple of little action scenes, little parts in it. speaker-1: Yeah, and there was action in this. speaker-0: This guy, what's his name? Glen Powis, what's the running man's? Ben Richards. He is like, you know, thin and emaciated because I mean, they don't eat enough because they're that poor. And he just kind of outsmarts the, the chaser. What are they called? The ones who are chasing him. The hunt, the bad guys anyway. So he basically has to like outsmart them and says he doesn't rely on. speaker-1: the Yeah. speaker-0: One. speaker-1: There's there's a lot of that in this one. He's not emaciated and weak. He's physically strong, but he does a lot about smarting him and outrunning him and that not outrunning him physically, but outrunning him, like outmaneuvering them. so there's a lot of that in this one. I'll say I didn't like the beginning. And I wasn't crazy about the end, but there's some stuff along the way that was pretty cool. I didn't hate it. But if I'm going to watch a running man movie, the first one as firm as a movie was executed better, think, which is crazy. Which is crazy. Yeah. You got a guy running around with a, with a light, bright suit on and an electric car. And I mean, it's weird to say, but the first movie I feel like was executed better. speaker-0: know it's Well, it has Arnold Schwarzenegger in it. speaker-1: And it's got Arnold Schwarzenegger in it at his his acting peak. ⁓ His his one liner peak. So I say it sucked. It did suck. But strangely, I didn't hate it because there was some neat stuff in the middle and it was different enough from the first movie. So I'm not saying it was it was worth a watch. I'm not I don't regret watching it. I'll never watch it again. speaker-0: And I mean Richard Dawson in the original too. mean you can't it's hard to beat that guy you know. speaker-1: And Josh Brolin was killing in this one. He was actually really good. He was a son of a gun. ⁓ speaker-0: Yeah, you see, Killian in the novel was the head of the television station or whatever it's called. Yeah. And I want to say he was a black man as well, because I can remember thinking if they ever make a movie like the way he's described in the novel in the novel is like Bill Duke. Like I envisaged Bill Duke playing that part, you know. speaker-1: So the so was Josh Brolin was killing, but the host of the TV show whose name I can't remember, they they they cast a black guy for him. Yeah. ⁓ So, yeah, they kind of kind of did that, I guess. It's another thing I watched. We we talk, I watched the ritual ⁓ kind of a kind of a horror movie on Netflix that was think I might like that one a little bit. Well, you said you didn't like the monster in that one. speaker-0: Yeah, I like the movie. thought the movie was great. I just to me, the monster was a disappointment, but I mean, other than the monster, I thought the movie was really good with the surround sound and stuff. Like I was, I was zoned in, bro. speaker-1: Yeah. All the stuff in the woods and the wilderness sounds. I look, other than that, I watched Clue. I watched Clue again for the first time, or for the second time, but the first time in a long time. I ended up getting ⁓ that 4K, which was great. Jacob and I watched this one together. I did not expect him to like it at all. He laughed the entire time and talked about how much he liked it at the end of it. And I liked it a whole lot better. after watching it this time. coolest part about this one, this 4K, how many endings? I mean, you may know this, the trivia on this, how many, the three endings. Okay, so on this 4K, when you start the movie, you have the option to do a random ending. It is like that? Okay, see, I didn't remember that. Yeah, they have the option. speaker-0: I'll let you borrow like that. Choose to do all of the endings or one random ending? speaker-1: Right. And that's how this one was. So we did the, ⁓ we did the, all of the endings. So I thought that was, that was kind of a neat, ⁓ a neat thing. Yeah. We, we, we really, ⁓ really did enjoy that one. speaker-0: And the reason they did it is because the theatrical release, had different endings depending on what theater you went to. speaker-1: Right, right, I had read that. They send them out with different endings. That's kind of neat. Can't really think of any other movie that's done something like that. speaker-0: Probably none. speaker-1: Yeah. Pretty cool. Pretty cool. So I, I was surprised how much I enjoyed that. We talked about to die for loved it. Haven't watched that 4k yet. Got the 4k, but I haven't watched it yet, but really, really did enjoy that one. I watched the trimmers 4k. That was a, that was a good, it's good. It looks really good. And that was, it was a, I hadn't seen that in, in so long and we were talking about it. That's something that That's one of the ones that I grew up watching a bunch of times, but hadn't seen it in years and years. So that was, that was fun to watch. I forgot how much fun that one was. It's about my ketchup. No, it was good. I'm done. speaker-0: Okay. Well, so I'm to do a Well, I'm going to wrap my catch up with a couple of 4k reviews. So I watched both of these movies today and they're both arrow video chunky boxes and arrow video is killing it right now. They're they're. Editions they're putting out are just really awesome right now and you and I did a unboxing of this, so I've already shown what comes in it. Actually on our last catch up, I showed it, but I didn't watch it until today. speaker-1: Okay. speaker-0: I was kind of holding out for you, but it just seems like it's going to be difficult for us to get together and watch it. So I'll have to let you borrow it. speaker-1: Yeah, because I mean speaker-0: This 4K is awesome. It looks great. I would probably give it a 10 out of 10. If it weren't for a couple of scenes where obviously I'm guessing the source material was a little more damaged or whatever. just, so there's a couple of scenes here and there, and it's just like shots that are only two or three seconds long. That kind of look rough, but the rest of the movie looks superb. Like there were some shots, I mean, it looked like they could have shot this yesterday. That's how good it looks. Yeah. Written and directed by Michael Crichton. And the movie is the actual movie itself. It's probably a seven. speaker-1: 70s this came out in 73 Okay. speaker-0: It's only 89 minutes long, but, I said this last time that I remember thinking, man, it's, it's long and it's only 89 minutes. It's not even an hour and a half, but it feels longer than it is. Like it has some kind of slow parts that drag a little bit. And I get, I get kind of, pick up my phone and start looking at IMDB for something. Yeah. So it's a great idea. It's a great concept. It's, ⁓ you know, Michael Crichton. amusement park where the attractions start killing the tourists. speaker-1: And I knew that he had written it, but I didn't realize that he directed the movie. speaker-0: He wrote and directed it. He was 30 years old. I was watching a few of the they have a lot of cool special features to new interviews with people but then there's also an old like it was on the set like while they were filming they were showing different interviews and stuff like that so that was really neat. speaker-1: Yeah, I'm interested in that one. want to see that. speaker-0: Yul Brynner as the gunslinger, he was awesome. Like he's a great bad guy. speaker-1: He was good in a cool runnings. speaker-0: to cool. Yeah. Yeah. But he man, he was great. I remember him being cool, but it had been several years since I watched it. And after watching it today, I was like, man, he, he was a menace. Like he, he was great. He was, he really was good. So yes, if you don't, but for those of you who are interested, get, get Westworld on 4k. It's worth it. The set is awesome. The booklet is cool. They have all the different cards. but the 4K itself looks amazing. the audio, mean, it's from 1973. We mixed it and remastered it and it's serviceable. It sounds good, but it's nothing that, you know, it's not an audio showcase, but the video is great. speaker-1: Yeah, I'm gonna have to get that from you at some point. I want to see that. speaker-0: And so... We talked about this as well. got Red Sonja on 4k arrow video. I just opened it this morning. So I'm gonna show this one off. Nice little chunky box. It has the movie and a booklet. It's got all kind of cool stuff in there. So yeah, she's actually in Conan. She's the blonde chick in one of the Conan movies. speaker-1: Yeah. Look nice on the old shelf. Okay. Is that Ernie Reyes? speaker-0: Ernie Reyes Jr. is in it. Yep. Who's awesome dude, speaker-1: when he was a weed lad. That's right. You got to meet him at one of the, one of the Comic Cons. speaker-0: And then it comes with the, I didn't open this. wanted to do this on camera. It looks like we get a couple of posters here. get different, two different poster arts. speaker-1: And you don't, you don't get that. You don't see posters like that. Those big epic posters anymore. speaker-0: Nope, nobody does it like that anymore. speaker-1: That's awesome. That's a nice. speaker-0: They use AI to generate posters. But, so this 4K looks pretty good. It does not look nearly as good as Westworld, but this is not bad. I'm not saying it's bad at all. It's a good 4K, but if the Westworld 4K is a nine, this one's about an eight. speaker-1: Yeah. Okay. speaker-0: It felt that it could have the colors maybe could have been a little bit better, but there were some outdoor scenes that looked pretty awesome. But, ⁓ I dunno, it just didn't quite impress me as much as Westworld did. This movie is so good. So good. ⁓ speaker-1: Yeah. And that's that's that has nothing to do with the Conan universe. Arnold does not play. speaker-0: No, so red Sonia, apparently the first ever read Sonia appearance is in the Conan comic books. Right. So it is in the Conan universe and he was supposed to be Conan. They couldn't, they couldn't get the rights to use the name. So they just changed his name to Kalidor, but he's Conan. fan theories, people say, he had a different traveling name, but it's actually Conan. speaker-1: That's something. Of course. So of course there's fan theories. Yes. I've seen red Sonia, but it's been so long. Is that, there a part in this one where at some point where they have a big giant snake like he has to fight. speaker-0: Snake, it's a machine. It's a, it's kind of like an alligator, but it's a, it's a machine. So he wrestles it and it's, it's, takes place in a, in a pool of water. speaker-1: Yeah, I feel like I've seen it back in my my TBS watching days. It seems like something that was probably on TBS. Multiple times in a 24 hour period. speaker-0: All right. Yeah, we had, we had it on cassette. So Chad and I watched it like crazy. And as I'm watching, I have it on DVD, but I hadn't actually watched it in years and watching it today. I was just, I was smiling. Most of the movie, just more of the memories of watching it as a kid than the actual movie. the movie is good, man. It's, it's got a 5.1 on IMDB, which really shocks me. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: It's weird. mean, to me, it's, I don't see how Conan is any better than this. Yeah. I we watched Conan at the Grove and actual quality of movies. This is in my opinion, just as good. mean, it had a $17.9 million budget in 1985. That's a lot of money. mean, it wasn't like a B movie budget. I mean, it wasn't a crazy amount, but that was a decent budget. And when you see a lot of the sets and the costumes, I mean, it's. Pretty impressive. mean. speaker-1: When they were, they were riding the success, which is weird to me. They would have been riding the success of the Conan movies. speaker-0: Yeah, it only made $6 million at the box office, but it was a $17 million budget. So it flopped hard, but it's crazy. Everybody I talked to that grew up, everybody loves this movie. So I don't know, it's weird. speaker-1: Yeah, that is weird. It's no Billy Jack, but it's... ⁓ speaker-0: But it's Bridget Nielsen's first movie. It's Ernie Reyes Jr.'s first movie. She was discovered by the director. She was a model and he saw her. He was looking for an Amazonian type woman. He couldn't find one and he saw her on a magazine cover. They called her up. She was 22 years old. They called her up and said, speaker-1: Nielsen's first movie. didn't realize issues is all. speaker-0: We had this part for you and flew her in and next thing you know, she's, she's the lead. speaker-1: It's, it's crazy. I'm surprised to hear that it didn't do, but what you said, $7 million. speaker-0: Yeah, like six million something. speaker-1: Just Arnold Schwarzenegger being in the movie alone at that point in time. speaker-0: Terminator was a year earlier. speaker-1: I wonder if, I wonder if people were just turned off by the fact that it was a female protagonist. I would, I would like to get to the bottom of how that movie didn't break the box office. Like that's nuts to me. That's crazy. speaker-0: But you know that that could be. Check again. We're going to do this right now. Let me just double check that I'm not, uh, I believe you. speaker-1: I believe you're just nuts. speaker-0: Let's go down to the. Yeah. So a budget of 17.9 million gross worldwide. 6.9 million. That's wild. Huh? speaker-1: That, that, yeah, that's crazy to me. That is crazy to me. speaker-0: The opening weekend was only 2.2 million. So how this movie flopped is beyond me. speaker-1: You know, I wonder if that's what it was, if people just didn't go see it because they weren't ready for, especially that kind of movie. speaker-0: Yeah. And it's kind of a type movie because you have the talisman can only be touched by women. The evil queen was in charge. so it's kind of a, you know, it's a strong woman type movie. And maybe in 1985, people just were not interested in watching that. speaker-1: That's got it. Cause your audience is males. So you got to think maybe guys just like, I'm not going to watch that. But at the same time, your audience is males and you would think, man, I really want to go see that. Brigitte Nielsen. Right. Running around in a, in whatever she was wearing. I don't know. It's been a long time since I've seen it. I'm an speaker-0: She was smothering around. Not too skippy, I mean, you can definitely see, you know, her. Yeah. ⁓ and the guy Falcon that was Ernie Reyes's protector guy. That was a old, what's his name? Bruno or Bluto. What's his name from Popeye? was Bluto in the movie with Robin Williams. speaker-1: So, ⁓ Bluto is the character. speaker-0: I was one who played his protector and I didn't realize it until I started looking at his IMDB. was like, ⁓ no wonder I recognized him. speaker-1: Well, it's it's breaking my brain that that movie only made that that little amount of money comparatively didn't even didn't even half the but well, no, a little bit over half the budget. speaker-0: You know, back in those days, it may have done a lot better on ⁓ VHS, maybe home release, HBO, that type of stuff. But yeah, it was a theater flop, dude. Kind of crazy. speaker-1: Homer. That's nuts. speaker-0: But yeah, get those both of those four K's are absolutely worth. Well, of course, red Sony is because it never had a Blu release. So you either have the old DVD or you get this. Yeah. And it's definitely worth it. Like it's it's a great set. speaker-1: I'll have to, I'll have to look into that and add that one to my list. Cause I have the, I have the Conan said on Blu ray, the first two movies on Blu ray. So I guess I'll, mean, you got to finish the collection, right? I can't have, I can't have those in not that one. speaker-0: Look. If I bought this piece of crap. speaker-1: ⁓ god. Put that away. speaker-0: Now it was only $13. So that's why I popped it because that's what the Blu-ray is normally around. So whenever I saw the 4K and you see the shrink wrap, it's probably going to stay in that. I don't know if I'll ever watch this crap again. Maybe I will when we have our, our little debate with Jamie Ray, speaker-1: Yeah. Don't I saw it one time y'all please don't make me watch it again because I know y'all want to do your point counterpoint and I know I'm supposed to be biased but I'm not. It's supposed to be. Yeah I don't want to watch it again. I don't want to watch it again. I will if I have to for the channel for the. speaker-0: ⁓ unbiased. I'm going to clip this as a short and I'm going send it to Jamie Ray. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Cause he's going to defend that one to the burger, but it's just not, I know. I'll watch it again for the channel. If that's what the people want, then I'll do it. But I don't want to, I don't want to do it, man. It wasn't good at all. It wasn't good at all. It wasn't. speaker-0: rambled on long enough. speaker-1: Yeah, sorry. I'm having flashbacks of Halloween 3. speaker-0: All right. Well, I guess we'll, we'll leave it at this and we'll figure out something else to talk about. speaker-1: Yeah, watch. Yeah. Creeping up, man. speaker-0: We're getting there. you know, I always say viewers, but don't forget about our listeners because we have steady listeners on the audio side like Spotify and Apple podcasts. So, you know, I always say viewers because of YouTube, but we have listeners as well. speaker-1: Yeah. And we appreciate each and every one of you. We hope that we can provide some type of entertainment to you and knowledge and, and all that fun stuff. That's why we do it for the people and because it's I said, like I said all the time, we'd be talking about this stuff anyway. So speaker-0: We holy- Yeah, we might as well do it with cameras in our faces. speaker-1: Right. So go watch, go watch Bagonia in the average home theater. I'm really anxious to see what you'll think about that. That's, that's how I'd like to end this is to remind you to go watch the damn movie. speaker-0: Okay, I'll try to get it done this weekend. We'll see how goes. speaker-1: Alright man. ⁓ speaker-0: All right, that'll do it. Like, subscribe, your friends. We'll catch you on the next one. speaker-1: See ya. And scene.
