- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, let's see is it time to talk to
- 0:04Speaker 1: Elena Wood from Nightingale College right here? Well, then let's
- 0:08Speaker 1: talk to Elena Woodlena.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hello, it's so good to be here again, Elena.
- 0:14Speaker 1: What do you have to say for yourself today?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Oh? So many things that I thought specifically we could
- 0:21Speaker 2: talk about eating healthy and avoiding falling into the trap
- 0:26Speaker 2: of bad diets.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Well, I understand that keto can prevent et keto dye
- 0:31Speaker 1: can prevent autism. No, not schizophrenia. I think it is
- 0:38Speaker 1: eating for help. What have you got here?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, So just some warning science to kind of look
- 0:44Speaker 2: out for when you're seeing advertisements or things like that.
- 0:48Speaker 2: And the first is anything that offers a fast, easy
- 0:53Speaker 2: and universal results. As we know, changes to our health,
- 0:57Speaker 2: our body, our habits, they take time, and since everybody
- 1:02Speaker 2: is a little bit different, the universal promise is usually
- 1:06Speaker 2: not what's going to happen.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yeah. I remember when they were advertising or there were
- 1:12Speaker 1: companies that were saying it was a pregnancy hormone and
- 1:16Speaker 1: you'd inject give yourself injections of this this hormone or
- 1:21Speaker 1: something that came from pregnant women and that would cause
- 1:24Speaker 1: you to lose weight.
- 1:25Speaker 2: That my goodness.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I don't remember that HHG or something like that anyway.
- 1:30Speaker 2: But this is more like like like a fad diet
- 1:34Speaker 2: kind of thing, like saying, oh this, if.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Everybody eats this fad diet, it's going to be healthy
- 1:39Speaker 1: for everybody to do this.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Exactly exactly, like you know, the keto diet might work
- 1:45Speaker 2: for some folks and it simply might not for others.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Well what now, But still I need my cleanse, don't I?
- 1:53Speaker 2: I love this one. And you know, our liver does
- 1:56Speaker 2: a really great job detoxing our body all round. And
- 2:01Speaker 2: so anything that is advertised and doing a detox or
- 2:05Speaker 2: a cleanse is usually just going to make you sick
- 2:08Speaker 2: for a few days. And you know, unless the doctor
- 2:12Speaker 2: recommends it, I recommend steering.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Clear that I've seen those pictures of what comes out
- 2:17Speaker 1: of my colon.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah not pretty.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, just really stupid stuff, isn't it. So, so don't
- 2:27Speaker 1: detox and cleans. That's generally not that's a buzzword that
- 2:31Speaker 1: means bs try someone's trying to sell you. The only
- 2:34Speaker 1: time you need a cleanse is if you're going to
- 2:36Speaker 1: have a colonoscopy, and then you that's.
- 2:38Speaker 2: The only and then you get to be miserable on purpose.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah, so next, what do we got next? Oh, supplements
- 2:46Speaker 1: or shakes or pre planned meals.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, any anything that requires the purchase of their very
- 2:54Speaker 2: specific shakes and supplements and meals. And I want to clarify,
- 2:59Speaker 2: of course, but I do believe there is space for
- 3:02Speaker 2: all of these things. I take supplements, I take protein shakes,
- 3:06Speaker 2: things like that, and anybody who's advertising or selling those
- 3:11Speaker 2: things specifically, just do a little bit of research, look
- 3:15Speaker 2: at the ingredients things like that.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, years ago, I did ads for some I forget
- 3:22Speaker 1: what company it is now, I don't know if they're
- 3:24Speaker 1: still around. But to lose weight, you the only thing
- 3:28Speaker 1: you could eat was the food that they would sell it.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yes, exactly, the one exactly, And.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I would tell you know now, I didn't have to
- 3:38Speaker 1: buy the food because I was doing the ads. It worked.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I mean I did lose some weight, but you don't.
- 3:44Speaker 1: You're not that forever as soon as you.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Not really sustainable.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And it didn't taste very good either, So yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So steer clear.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So next.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Okay, keep an eye out for any that suggests eliminating
- 4:02Speaker 2: entire food groups. I firmly believe that there are no
- 4:06Speaker 2: good or bad foods and any The only thing we
- 4:09Speaker 2: should really eliminate are things that we're allergic to or
- 4:12Speaker 2: we don't like. So if an influencer says, hey, stop
- 4:16Speaker 2: eating carbs, I want you to know that you need
- 4:19Speaker 2: carbs for your brain to work, so please keep eating them.
- 4:22Speaker 1: You're saying I shouldn't do I was planning on doing
- 4:25Speaker 1: a diet where I eat nothing but baked potatoes. I
- 4:28Speaker 1: shouldn't with nothing on them.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I recommend that you eat a variety of foods.
- 4:35Speaker 1: All right, I won't do that. And then let's see
- 4:39Speaker 1: what else do we have here?
- 4:41Speaker 2: Oh, very last one. Yeah, so anybody who is suggesting
- 4:46Speaker 2: really severe calorie deficit, just really look out for these.
- 4:51Speaker 2: We need calories again to stay alive, where our body
- 4:55Speaker 2: and our brains to function well. And these are especially
- 4:59Speaker 2: targeted ards women and you know, ladies, just just keep
- 5:03Speaker 2: an eye out. Know that you've got to eat too
- 5:06Speaker 2: to be full, to be whole, and so yeah, just
- 5:09Speaker 2: keep an eye out for that stuff.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Is it should should you? Should you never count a
- 5:14Speaker 1: calorie count?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Or or is that you know I have? I have
- 5:19Speaker 2: kind of complicated feelings about that. I think it can
- 5:22Speaker 2: be a useful tool. I also think that it can
- 5:27Speaker 2: be a very stressful way to live your life. So
- 5:33Speaker 2: you know, I think doing it for a little while
- 5:35Speaker 2: just to get familiar with what and how much you're
- 5:38Speaker 2: eating can be helpful, and then just kind of use
- 5:42Speaker 2: it as a marker as opposed to a lifestyle like.
- 5:45Speaker 1: A food diary. Some people find help exactly right down
- 5:49Speaker 1: everything they eat so they can see over a period
- 5:53Speaker 1: of time what you yeah, they're putting in there.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Just it's good to build awareness, I think, and
- 5:59Speaker 2: I don't see that we most people need to do
- 6:02Speaker 2: it all of the time.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I found it really discouraging because I
- 6:08Speaker 1: did it one time a few years ago and every
- 6:10Speaker 1: single meal was a hamburger of some sort and it
- 6:13Speaker 1: was just breakfast launch.
- 6:16Speaker 2: He did not like that awareness.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah. I was enjoying it until I really looked at
- 6:20Speaker 1: this time. Yeah, that's good.
- 6:23Speaker 2: There was a lot of hamburgers.
- 6:24Speaker 1: The hamburger diet you need. Yeah, I mean it was
- 6:27Speaker 1: it was. I enjoyed while I was doing it, but
- 6:29Speaker 1: then when I look back on it, I went, well, wa, wait,
- 6:31Speaker 1: this is too much. Sounds good? All right, Elena, would
- 6:36Speaker 1: Nightingale College tell people where they can find out more.
- 6:40Speaker 2: You can learn more about this, as well as Nightingale's
- 6:43Speaker 2: amazing programs by visiting Nightingale dot edu.
- 6:46Speaker 1: All Right, thank you, thank thank you. All Right,
