- 0:09In the kitchen you decided
- 0:33What is going on, everybody?
- 0:34Welcome to the Clydesdale Media Podcast.
- 0:37My name is Scott Switzer
- 0:38I'm the Clydesdale.
- 0:39And I am with,
- 0:41who has become one of my
- 0:43favorite CrossFit athletes in the world,
- 0:45Elisa Fuliano.
- 0:47Elisa, how are you?
- 0:47Thank you.
- 0:48Thank you so much.
- 0:51I'm good.
- 0:51Thank you.
- 0:52I'm very good now.
- 0:54For sure better than before semis.
- 0:57Yeah.
- 0:58So let's talk about that a little bit.
- 1:00You got your third straight
- 1:03invitation to the CrossFit Games.
- 1:06Yes.
- 1:08I would like it would be
- 1:10like an invitation.
- 1:11Unfortunately, I had to sweat for it.
- 1:14And it was like being in a war.
- 1:17But I'm happy how it went.
- 1:20And I'm happy to have earned
- 1:22this third precious
- 1:24qualification to the Games.
- 1:27This year, it's been so tough.
- 1:29So this makes it even more
- 1:34like I'm more proud than myself,
- 1:38more than last two years.
- 1:40So Jethro,
- 1:42I think he's speaking Italian for you.
- 1:45Buongiorno, Jethro.
- 1:47Thank you.
- 1:50So let's talk about that.
- 1:53When we first met three years ago,
- 1:57we talked about a lot of
- 1:58things that were going on in your life,
- 2:00rheumatoid arthritis,
- 2:01different things that were
- 2:03going to possibly limit your career.
- 2:05And at that point,
- 2:06if you would have told me
- 2:07that Elisa was going to finish,
- 2:10qualify for the Games three
- 2:11straight years,
- 2:12I would not have believed it.
- 2:15Yeah, me neither, for sure.
- 2:17So what made this year so
- 2:19tough and so rewarding at the same time?
- 2:23So fortunately, every year I say, okay,
- 2:26maybe I can go on for other
- 2:28two years and then I quit.
- 2:30Then next year, everything is okay,
- 2:33even better.
- 2:34So I think, well,
- 2:35maybe from now on another
- 2:37two years and then the next year,
- 2:40same thing.
- 2:41So I'm so happy it is going like this.
- 2:45As you said, I...
- 2:49I wouldn't bet to find
- 2:52myself here three years ago.
- 2:56So I think I'm very, very lucky.
- 3:00I mean,
- 3:00I'm also stubborn and I'm happy to
- 3:03be stubborn as well because if
- 3:08I should have followed the
- 3:10recommendation from doctors
- 3:13and families and friends.
- 3:15I should have stopped doing
- 3:17any kind of competitive
- 3:18sports right away.
- 3:20But fortunately, as I said,
- 3:22I'm very stubborn and I'm
- 3:24proud of myself to have sticked to it.
- 3:28and being here I mean uh it
- 3:31seemed impossible three
- 3:32years ago um but as I said
- 3:36um maybe uh it's also I've
- 3:39been lucky and but of
- 3:41course luck I think is one
- 3:43of the um I mean you have
- 3:46to be lucky as well uh
- 3:48apart from the hard work um
- 3:52how much you want it but of
- 3:54course luck I think uh plays
- 3:57a crucial role as well.
- 3:58So I'm happy.
- 4:01I've also been lucky that my
- 4:04rheumatoid arthritis let me
- 4:07achieve what I've achieved.
- 4:08And it's just amazing.
- 4:11So because of, because of that,
- 4:15Every year,
- 4:15it allows you to soak it in
- 4:18because you don't know if
- 4:19it's going to be your last, right?
- 4:21Yes,
- 4:22I leave every competition like it was
- 4:25the last one.
- 4:26So I try to leave every second I can to...
- 4:31So that I can say, OK,
- 4:33if this is my last competition,
- 4:35I want it to be good.
- 4:36So every competition for me is like, OK,
- 4:38I'll give my best so that
- 4:40in the case I have to stop like tomorrow,
- 4:43I want to be happy to stop.
- 4:45So I'll do everything I can
- 4:49every time I can.
- 4:52So the last time we talked,
- 4:54which was probably about a year ago,
- 4:56everything was in check
- 4:58with the rheumatoid arthritis.
- 5:00You had kind of found some
- 5:01ways to manage it.
- 5:03Are we still in that good place?
- 5:06Yes, we are, fortunately.
- 5:08And I'm still with the same therapy.
- 5:13And I think my pain is under control,
- 5:16but I think it is causing
- 5:21maybe some inflammation
- 5:23more often than maybe they
- 5:26could appear normally.
- 5:29So it happens that sometimes
- 5:31like my knee or my wrist or
- 5:35some other part of my body
- 5:37are with inflammations.
- 5:41But I think we can manage,
- 5:43me and my coach,
- 5:46He managed to change each
- 5:49training based on where I have the pain.
- 5:52So, of course,
- 5:54I have to thank him a lot
- 5:56because he always finds a
- 5:59way to make me train hard anyway.
- 6:04But I think, yes, I cannot complain.
- 6:06I mean,
- 6:06I guess every athlete has its pain
- 6:11here and there.
- 6:12So I think it's just a normal thing.
- 6:16I think you just have to
- 6:17accept to have pain when
- 6:19you want to stay in this level.
- 6:22I mean, between top athletes,
- 6:26you have to take into
- 6:27account that you're going
- 6:29to hurt a lot of your time.
- 6:32So it's just part of the journey.
- 6:36So what does an average day
- 6:38look like for you?
- 6:39And does it incorporate like
- 6:42mobility and stretching and body work?
- 6:47um yes I start with a lot of
- 6:51mobility um so I have to
- 6:56make sure that my joints
- 6:57are well um are working
- 7:00well so um I make sure I
- 7:04start with like half an
- 7:05hour mobility and um this
- 7:09really help I mean um I
- 7:12have to make sure to start the training
- 7:15being well functioning.
- 7:17And then, for example,
- 7:19when I have a weightlifting session,
- 7:21I have to make sure not to
- 7:23jump too much weight.
- 7:26So adding very small weight
- 7:29and go up slowly and so
- 7:33with not too much gap
- 7:35between one attempt and the other.
- 7:40Yeah,
- 7:40it's a bit maybe I just need to be a
- 7:44bit more
- 7:46to pay a bit more attention
- 7:47than maybe other athletes.
- 7:48But if this allows me to, like, to gain,
- 7:52like,
- 7:52three times in a row CrossFit game
- 7:54qualification,
- 7:55then I'll do it with pleasure,
- 7:57even if I have to spend more time to it.
- 8:00Also, like, later after the session.
- 8:03So I start with stretching and mobility.
- 8:06And then after it, I have to...
- 8:11um like do it very long cool
- 8:14down so every muscle I use
- 8:16in the training uh I have
- 8:18to make sure it is well
- 8:19like again mobility and um
- 8:22I do I stretch a lot um
- 8:27logan ewing says my respect
- 8:28just grew even more thank
- 8:31you logan yes always a good
- 8:35word for me you always
- 8:37write me on instagram so thank you again
- 8:41So are you capable of doing
- 8:44ice baths and things like that,
- 8:47or is that too quick for
- 8:49you to cool down?
- 8:53Actually, each time I have the chance,
- 8:56I like to do it.
- 8:57For example, during semifinals,
- 8:59there were the ice baths,
- 9:01and I did it like this.
- 9:03I think every, every, after every workout.
- 9:07And I think it really helps.
- 9:09I would like to have one, um, actually the,
- 9:12the brand that there were
- 9:14at semi send me a,
- 9:16ice bath but at the moment I
- 9:18don't know where to put it
- 9:19like in my gym I have to
- 9:21figure out a place but as
- 9:24soon as I have the chance
- 9:26to I would like to have one
- 9:28for like to use every every
- 9:31time I need because I
- 9:33noticed that every time I
- 9:35do it like for example
- 9:36during competition actually
- 9:39competitions are the only
- 9:41occasions where I can do ice baths and
- 9:45I noticed it really helped
- 9:48for sure for legs more than
- 9:51every other body part.
- 9:54It really helps to recovery.
- 9:56For example,
- 9:57after event number one at semis,
- 10:00the one with the run,
- 10:01like I finished that I was
- 10:04literally dead and my legs
- 10:06were not responding anymore.
- 10:08So I really needed a nice
- 10:10bath and that really helped
- 10:12to recover faster.
- 10:16Yeah,
- 10:17so I saw something on your Instagram.
- 10:21I was trying to find it.
- 10:22I know you're a Reebok athlete.
- 10:23Here it is.
- 10:23So I'm going to show this.
- 10:28I just bought these shoes.
- 10:29You?
- 10:32Yeah.
- 10:33Oh.
- 10:34So the Reebok runners.
- 10:39Yes, I like that video.
- 10:42I just bought a pair of
- 10:43these in the like turquoise.
- 10:48Okay.
- 10:48Yes.
- 10:49I'm sure you won't regret.
- 10:52They are the most
- 10:53comfortable shoe I've ever worn.
- 10:55Yes, I agree.
- 10:57They're amazing.
- 11:00I was really happy because
- 11:02until that moment, as I wrote, I think,
- 11:06on the post, I was not really,
- 11:08really 100% satisfied about
- 11:11running shoes because as
- 11:13far as nanos are concerned,
- 11:15I think they're the best.
- 11:16I've always worn nanos since
- 11:18I started doing CrossFit,
- 11:19but I was not very
- 11:21satisfied for running shoes.
- 11:23So when...
- 11:25The guys from Reebok told me,
- 11:27soon we're going to drop a
- 11:29very cool model.
- 11:30You're going to like it.
- 11:31I was like, yes, okay.
- 11:32And when they sent it to me,
- 11:35I just find it amazing.
- 11:37I think the thing that I
- 11:39like the most about them,
- 11:41I don't know if you agree,
- 11:42but it's that they are super,
- 11:44super light.
- 11:45It's like you have nothing at your feet.
- 11:47So that was really impressive.
- 11:50I really like them.
- 11:51So when I got them,
- 11:52I was worried because the sole,
- 11:55there's like gaps in the sole.
- 11:57And then the outer sole is solid.
- 12:01So it's like there's gaps in between them.
- 12:04And I was like,
- 12:04because I'm not a small guy, right?
- 12:06Is it going to be able to hold up to me?
- 12:10And they have been awesome.
- 12:12Yes.
- 12:14And they are the lightest
- 12:16shoe I think I've ever owned.
- 12:19Yes, they are.
- 12:20They're amazing.
- 12:22I think they really helped
- 12:24for Sammy's workout,
- 12:26even if it didn't go as planned,
- 12:30but they really helped with the running.
- 12:34They were amazing.
- 12:36So you did the workout,
- 12:38workout one in these shoes?
- 12:42Yes, yes, I did.
- 12:45So that blows my mind
- 12:46because I cannot imagine
- 12:48lifting in these shoes.
- 12:50Yes, they're not like made for lifting,
- 12:53but I think for that workout,
- 12:56at least for me,
- 12:57the worst part was the running.
- 13:00So I wanted the running to
- 13:02be the part like best treated.
- 13:07So I wanted to make sure that running was,
- 13:12I wanted to be as much
- 13:14comfortable as I could.
- 13:16That's why I've chosen that
- 13:18type of shoes because I
- 13:21knew that clean and jerk
- 13:24were going to be not the main problem.
- 13:28I think the run was the main problem.
- 13:31So I wanted the best shoes
- 13:34for the run so that I could
- 13:36do the best as I could.
- 13:40So let's dive into that
- 13:41semifinal performance because...
- 13:44You had a great semifinals,
- 13:45but it did not start great.
- 13:48No.
- 13:49Yes.
- 13:51Actually, every year at semifinals,
- 13:54the first event is the worst.
- 13:56And this time was the third year.
- 13:59So I already knew that
- 14:01probably the first was
- 14:02going to be the worst.
- 14:04And so that was it.
- 14:06But I didn't imagine...
- 14:11like the 20th place out of 40.
- 14:14I mean, yes,
- 14:14it's in the middle of the leaderboard,
- 14:16but I was hoping maybe between 15 and 20,
- 14:20because usually, as I was saying,
- 14:22the first workout of semi
- 14:24is like with ergometers or
- 14:27last year there was the sled.
- 14:29So they're usually not,
- 14:32there are not movements that I like.
- 14:34So I know that the first
- 14:35workout is the one where I
- 14:36have to like limit the damages.
- 14:40And so this year was exactly the same.
- 14:43So I faced that workout thinking, OK,
- 14:47this for sure for you is
- 14:49going to be the worst.
- 14:51So do everything you can and
- 14:57we'll see where it gets.
- 14:58So the 20th place was not good,
- 15:01was not too bad, was OK.
- 15:04I think actually it was like
- 15:06our expectations.
- 15:07And I knew that after that,
- 15:15climbing the leaderboard
- 15:16was going to start.
- 15:18So actually,
- 15:20if I look at the whole competition,
- 15:22it went exactly as we planned.
- 15:26I mean, me and my coach expected.
- 15:28I mean, first day with the first workout,
- 15:32we knew I was going to be
- 15:33in the middle of the leaderboard.
- 15:36We knew that with day number two,
- 15:38I was going to climb a bit
- 15:41the leaderboard,
- 15:41but still maybe be out of
- 15:44the 10 qualifying spots,
- 15:46but still in that zone with
- 15:49the more or less same number of points.
- 15:52And then I...
- 15:55on day number three, uh,
- 15:56it was going to be my day.
- 15:57And I know that, um, uh,
- 16:00I was going to find the
- 16:01workouts more for me.
- 16:03So I knew that on day number three,
- 16:05I had to give my, my best to, um,
- 16:09do the climbing and, uh, earn what I,
- 16:12what I deserve.
- 16:13So yes, first workout was the worst,
- 16:16but I knew it was going to be the worst.
- 16:18So like no big surprises,
- 16:20but actually I didn't think
- 16:23apart from the result, I, uh,
- 16:25I would have suffered like this.
- 16:28I was literally dead.
- 16:29I think it was one of the
- 16:31worst workouts ever.
- 16:33I mean, with the feelings.
- 16:38It took me like three
- 16:39minutes to get on my legs again after it.
- 16:43Yeah,
- 16:43it's funny you say that because I
- 16:45talked to James Sprague
- 16:46yesterday and he said he
- 16:49won it in his semifinal and
- 16:51it was the worst he felt
- 16:53after any event the entire weekend.
- 16:56Okay.
- 16:57So you're not alone.
- 16:59Perfect.
- 17:01Yes.
- 17:02This makes me feel a bit better.
- 17:04So when you... Let me... So
- 17:08you say every year the
- 17:09first event is like your heart event.
- 17:12Is it program specific?
- 17:14Or is it nerves going into the semifinals?
- 17:18No,
- 17:18I think because the first workout is
- 17:21usually the one which lasts the most.
- 17:23So around...
- 17:25between 20 and 30 minutes every year.
- 17:28Like the endurance workout
- 17:29usually is workout number one.
- 17:32And I'm not usually that
- 17:34good in endurance workouts.
- 17:36So we're working on them a lot.
- 17:39But still,
- 17:40I think between all the type of
- 17:45the workouts,
- 17:46endurance is still one of my weaknesses.
- 17:50So I know that in that workout,
- 17:56I'm usually not able to give my best,
- 17:59but we're working on it.
- 18:00That's why it's not the nerves.
- 18:02I think, yes,
- 18:03as far as nerves are concerned,
- 18:05the first one is for sure the worst.
- 18:09because after the first
- 18:10workout in every
- 18:11competition then it goes
- 18:13like a bit better you know
- 18:14uh when they call you you
- 18:16know where where you have
- 18:17to be when you have to be
- 18:18uh you know the drill so uh
- 18:21after the first workout
- 18:23that the ice is is broke um
- 18:25everything goes more smooth
- 18:29so maybe that also a little
- 18:31bit I i remember I was
- 18:32scared so maybe that maybe
- 18:34yes maybe that um
- 18:36influenced a bit the
- 18:37performance but is uh
- 18:40mostly because not workout
- 18:41number one is the the
- 18:43longer workout during the
- 18:44weekend in like in every
- 18:45semifinals was like that so
- 18:48it's for that reason so
- 18:51back to the rheumatoid
- 18:52arthritis a little bit and
- 18:54your weakness being
- 18:54endurance can your body
- 18:56handle training those
- 18:58longer uh time domains yes
- 19:03I think it's not
- 19:05A problem, maybe more my feet.
- 19:08Like it's not like the whole body,
- 19:10but my feet are going to
- 19:13hurt after some times that
- 19:15I stress them out.
- 19:16Like, for example,
- 19:17also when I'm doing sled, for example,
- 19:23last year there was sled in
- 19:25the first semis workout.
- 19:27And I remember I suffered my feet a bit.
- 19:30because of rheumatoid arthritis,
- 19:32but it's not a problem actually.
- 19:37We can train it.
- 19:38For example,
- 19:39yesterday I did three hours
- 19:41biking and it's not a big problem.
- 19:47Okay, okay.
- 19:49So then you go into the second event,
- 19:53which is... I guess, I'm sorry,
- 19:54I guess it's just because
- 19:55of my background.
- 19:56I used to run...
- 19:58But I was not like doing
- 20:00like half marathons or 10 kilometers.
- 20:04I was sprinting.
- 20:04I was doing like 100 meters and that's it.
- 20:07So maybe because of my background,
- 20:10I was not able to develop
- 20:13like endurance a lot.
- 20:15That's why maybe now I'm a
- 20:17bit more – I have a deficit
- 20:18for endurance.
- 20:21It's funny too because you are so tiny.
- 20:26Um, when, when, when I met you in person,
- 20:28like, like I've seen you on TV, I've seen,
- 20:31and then when I met you in person,
- 20:32like it really showed how tiny you were.
- 20:37And so like,
- 20:39so the owner of my gym is
- 20:40Christy O'Connell,
- 20:42a Christy Aramo O'Connell and tiny too.
- 20:44Right.
- 20:45But like she is an endurance athlete.
- 20:48So I think people pigeonhole
- 20:50you and think they know
- 20:51what you're good at.
- 20:53But you're very different
- 20:55than other smaller athletes.
- 20:57And we're going to get into
- 20:58that with what you did
- 20:59really well in this weekend.
- 21:02Yes.
- 21:03Right?
- 21:04No one was expecting that.
- 21:06Like, looking at me,
- 21:07I was going that good on that workout.
- 21:10Right.
- 21:10Exactly.
- 21:11And we're going to get into that.
- 21:12But also, I think another reason for...
- 21:16because I'm not good in
- 21:18endurance is because of that.
- 21:19I mean,
- 21:20Christine maybe can be an exception.
- 21:22I'm so happy that she can,
- 21:24she can do well in endurance.
- 21:25This gives me a bit more
- 21:27hope that I can be better as well,
- 21:30but because I'm short, for example,
- 21:32every workout with, uh, in, of endurance,
- 21:35which have, uh, ergometers, uh, so row,
- 21:40uh, skier or eco bike, like being tiny,
- 21:44I cannot like,
- 21:46I have to push way more than
- 21:47the other ones to maintain
- 21:49like maybe the same pace, you know,
- 21:51so I get tired before.
- 21:53And also in running,
- 21:55I have like very short legs.
- 21:56So for me,
- 21:58running fast is more exhausting
- 22:01than the other ones.
- 22:02That's why also I'm not that
- 22:04good in endurance.
- 22:06Do you watch the other
- 22:07competitions during semis?
- 22:11You mean the other semis around the world?
- 22:13Yeah.
- 22:14Yes.
- 22:14Yeah.
- 22:16Did you see what Colton
- 22:17Mertens did on the run?
- 22:21It was, remember me?
- 22:23I don't.
- 22:25He took top five in the West.
- 22:27Okay.
- 22:28Yeah.
- 22:29And that was,
- 22:30that was shocking to everybody.
- 22:32He had worked so hard on his
- 22:34endurance running and he's
- 22:35another smaller athlete, right?
- 22:37Just on the inside.
- 22:39Does that give you hope that
- 22:41you can turn around too?
- 22:43Yes, yes, of course.
- 22:45Also, for me,
- 22:48maybe the worst CrossFit
- 22:54element is EcoBike because,
- 22:56as I was saying,
- 22:57I cannot push hard enough
- 23:00compared to other bigger athletes.
- 23:03But when I saw, for example, Emma Carey,
- 23:07she's tiny as well,
- 23:08but I saw both at the Games
- 23:11and the Rogue Invitational,
- 23:13she smashed the eco bike.
- 23:15And so I was like, okay,
- 23:17so I don't have excuses now.
- 23:20She's shorter, like almost as me.
- 23:22So she managed to push on the eco bike.
- 23:26So I have to push it like her.
- 23:29on the eco bike.
- 23:30I mean, even if your short is possible.
- 23:33So that also gave me hope
- 23:36that I can be better on eco bike.
- 23:38Yeah.
- 23:39It's gotta be a weird
- 23:40dichotomy because your power output is,
- 23:43is huge.
- 23:44Like, and you prove that in lifting.
- 23:48Um, and so you can,
- 23:49you have that quick twitch
- 23:51and that power.
- 23:52It's just, how does,
- 23:53how do you make it
- 23:53translate to a machine?
- 24:01I don't know.
- 24:01I mean,
- 24:02I feel like even if I'm pushing hard,
- 24:06I still feel I cannot push
- 24:08like the other ones.
- 24:10So, for example,
- 24:12this was one of the reasons
- 24:13I was a bit pissed off for
- 24:15some of the workouts of the semis because,
- 24:18for example,
- 24:19for workout... I don't
- 24:20remember which number was...
- 24:23each workout,
- 24:23but the one with echo bite
- 24:25and legless rope climb and
- 24:27the one with row and headstand.
- 24:30I mean, I'm usually good in skill skills.
- 24:35So I'm usually good at
- 24:37legless rope climb and, you know,
- 24:39I'm good at SN walk,
- 24:42but I was a bit pissed off
- 24:45that they were like,
- 24:47they didn't really count
- 24:48that much in that workout.
- 24:50So it didn't count really
- 24:51much how good you were in
- 24:53legless or climb or aspen walk,
- 24:56because I think it was counting most how,
- 25:00how strong you were going to, uh,
- 25:02on the eco bike and how
- 25:04strong you were going on the,
- 25:05on the Rover.
- 25:06That's why.
- 25:08Like, I was, when I saw the workout, I was,
- 25:11okay, there is the skill.
- 25:13I'm usually good at it,
- 25:14but I'm afraid that it's
- 25:16not going to count much.
- 25:18I mean, legless rope climb was not,
- 25:21was absolutely, like,
- 25:22irrelevant in that workout.
- 25:24And I was hoping it was going a bit better,
- 25:29but I knew that being the eco bike, like,
- 25:33the main thing of the workout,
- 25:35I knew I was...
- 25:38I was not going to be as
- 25:42strong as I wanted,
- 25:44as well also in the one with the row.
- 25:47I mean, I'm very good in stand,
- 25:50but it was tough for me
- 25:52keeping the same pace as
- 25:53the other ones on the row.
- 25:58In general,
- 25:58I liked this year workout very
- 26:02much because it was a pure CrossFit.
- 26:04But on the other side,
- 26:06I wanted the skills to count more,
- 26:09you know.
- 26:09Yeah, it's funny you say that.
- 26:12Jody Lynn says,
- 26:14nice to hear a bit of emotion there.
- 26:16I have to say like with your accent,
- 26:19you make sounding pissed
- 26:21off the most beautiful
- 26:23language I've ever heard.
- 26:24Okay.
- 26:29But I love your accent.
- 26:32But it's funny you say that
- 26:34because I host a show with
- 26:36Carolyn Prevost and we were
- 26:38talking about the same thing.
- 26:39like they took the skills
- 26:42that like she developed
- 26:43like the legless and the
- 26:45handstand walk and they
- 26:47made them not count like
- 26:48with the legless you only
- 26:49had to do one and they
- 26:50broke it up so it even if
- 26:52you have a difficulty with
- 26:54the legless it's broke up
- 26:56enough for you to recover
- 26:57to be able to do them right
- 26:58yeah exactly which were
- 26:59really good at them they
- 27:01didn't get that advantage
- 27:02that they would normally
- 27:03get exactly yes um and then
- 27:06on the handstand walk
- 27:08I tried to argue that it was
- 27:09a handstand walk workout.
- 27:11She flat out slam dunked me and said, no,
- 27:14it was a row workout.
- 27:16Yes, exactly.
- 27:18And she said the same thing.
- 27:20It took all the great
- 27:21handstand walkers out of the competition.
- 27:24Yes, exactly.
- 27:27So with that,
- 27:29I had this question in my
- 27:30head as I was doing the notes for this.
- 27:32You seem to be a better
- 27:33CrossFit games athlete than
- 27:35a semifinal athlete.
- 27:37It's 12 events instead of six.
- 27:40They do a lot more gymnastic
- 27:42stuff when you get to the
- 27:44games because they have the ability to,
- 27:47a workout can specialize in
- 27:49one area because there's
- 27:50enough to balance it all out.
- 27:53Do you agree that you're
- 27:54better when you get to the big stage?
- 27:58I don't know.
- 27:59I mean,
- 27:59I think it depends mainly on the workout.
- 28:05I mean,
- 28:05the first year it was I didn't
- 28:09manage to like I didn't
- 28:11like the workouts.
- 28:12They were I think mostly
- 28:15they were for like big athletes.
- 28:17So I didn't really enjoy doing them.
- 28:21Like, I didn't like them.
- 28:23And last year, instead,
- 28:25I like every workout.
- 28:28So out of 12 workouts, really,
- 28:30I like them all.
- 28:32And...
- 28:36I think they were more CrossFit.
- 28:38So I guess it depends on the workouts.
- 28:45Hopefully this year they
- 28:48will be on the same style of last year.
- 28:52So maybe if this is the case, maybe yes.
- 28:56I will be happy if I manage
- 29:02to be well in the Games.
- 29:03Don't say me.
- 29:06Since Dave Castro's come back,
- 29:08it's gotten more CrossFit-y.
- 29:10Yes.
- 29:11Yes.
- 29:12I wanted to say that.
- 29:14I really like Dave Castro
- 29:15workouts more than Adrian
- 29:18Bosman's workouts.
- 29:20And I think, I mean,
- 29:22I think they're working
- 29:23together and I think Dave's
- 29:24trying to mentor Boz on all that stuff.
- 29:27But he has said that he
- 29:28wants moving forward this
- 29:30to be more CrossFit-y.
- 29:32yes I really hope I really
- 29:34hope it will be because the
- 29:35first uh year really I was
- 29:37like okay I'm here at the
- 29:39games and I'm I'm not
- 29:40having fun like I don't
- 29:41like one workout out of the
- 29:45one I did like I was a bit
- 29:49like angry because I was
- 29:50like okay I work hard all
- 29:52year and then I'm here and
- 29:54I'm not liking it so I was
- 29:57a bit angry because
- 30:00they didn't... I have some expectations,
- 30:07of course, for the games,
- 30:08but they were not...
- 30:13they were not my expectations.
- 30:16While last year, I was like, okay,
- 30:19so these are the real games.
- 30:21These, I really, I like them.
- 30:25I like every workout.
- 30:26And also the one, I remember Alpaca,
- 30:29where I got stuck on legless or climb,
- 30:31but because they were like
- 30:34very high with the heavy
- 30:36sled and heavy other thing.
- 30:39But I remember that
- 30:41Because usually when you're
- 30:42not doing well in a workout,
- 30:44when you finish it, you say like, no,
- 30:47I didn't like the workout.
- 30:48And instead,
- 30:49even if I got stuck on the
- 30:51legless rope climb,
- 30:52I was sad that I didn't
- 30:55have the chance to finish
- 30:57it because actually I
- 30:58really liked it as a workout.
- 31:00So I liked every workout and I was okay.
- 31:03So this year I'm having fun
- 31:05and I hope I will be here
- 31:09next year as well because
- 31:11if CrossFit games are like this,
- 31:13I'm going to like them.
- 31:14Otherwise I didn't like them
- 31:16at all my first year.
- 31:18So since the direction seems
- 31:20to be like more CrossFit workouts,
- 31:23hopefully I'm going to
- 31:25enjoy them also this year.
- 31:28I remember talking to you
- 31:29after that first year and
- 31:30you were so bummed because
- 31:32the stuff you were looking
- 31:33forward to was after the cut.
- 31:36Yes, that's true.
- 31:38And,
- 31:38and so you had to kind of endure this
- 31:41first part and then you
- 31:42didn't make the cut to do
- 31:43the stuff you wanted to do.
- 31:44Yeah, that's true.
- 31:46I remember.
- 31:47Um, and,
- 31:48and that had to be quite the bummer.
- 31:50And then last year you made
- 31:51it through all the cuts.
- 31:53Yes.
- 31:54I was so angry then, uh,
- 31:57from last year that I gave
- 31:59my all because I wanted to,
- 32:00like the other thing is
- 32:02that coming to America for us,
- 32:05European and every other athletes,
- 32:07which is not American is a huge cost.
- 32:10So I wanted that cost to be,
- 32:12to be worth it, you know?
- 32:16i was thinking I didn't came
- 32:18here just to compete two
- 32:20days I want to compete the
- 32:22whole four days so I think
- 32:24that was a push for me to
- 32:26give my best and to pass
- 32:28all the full cuts also as a
- 32:31revenge from the past year
- 32:33yeah so it's funny because
- 32:36I got to talk to you at the
- 32:37games last year
- 32:39And it,
- 32:40it stuck in my head as semifinals
- 32:42came out and I play the heat one app.
- 32:44I don't know if you know what that is.
- 32:47It's like we pick who's
- 32:48going to win different events.
- 32:50Okay.
- 32:51And we get to the snatch ladder in,
- 32:52in Europe.
- 32:55And I remember you having a
- 32:57conversation with me at the
- 32:58games last year going,
- 33:01I love Olympic lifting.
- 33:04I love it.
- 33:04I love it.
- 33:05I love it.
- 33:05Yeah.
- 33:07And so I picked you to win that event.
- 33:10Oh, really?
- 33:12I don't know.
- 33:14Like it's,
- 33:16it would be easy to pick like
- 33:18Laura or Gabby to do well in that.
- 33:21But you just,
- 33:22you stuck in my head from
- 33:23that conversation.
- 33:24And I was like,
- 33:25I'm going to pick Elisa to
- 33:26win the snatch ladder.
- 33:28Oh, really?
- 33:29Thank you.
- 33:30I was flipping up and down
- 33:31and screaming at my TV that
- 33:34you had done that.
- 33:36Thank you.
- 33:37Thank you so much.
- 33:38But I may have been the only
- 33:39person in the world that
- 33:40picked you to win it.
- 33:41I think, yes.
- 33:42I think you've been the only person, yes.
- 33:45So thanks for the trust.
- 33:47Yeah,
- 33:49it was a surprise for me as well
- 33:50because usually we don't
- 33:53try the whole workout in training.
- 33:57But we decided to, to do like,
- 33:59like to try the whole workout.
- 34:01And, um,
- 34:03I remember it was like the last
- 34:05week of the training cycle.
- 34:07I had pain everywhere.
- 34:08Yes.
- 34:08But when I try it,
- 34:10I did like seven minutes 58.
- 34:13So it was almost three
- 34:15minutes more than I did at semis.
- 34:19So.
- 34:20I couldn't believe it when I
- 34:21saw the result.
- 34:24When I was warming up,
- 34:27I was very nervous because
- 34:29actually I didn't know what to expect.
- 34:31I mean,
- 34:31I was hoping to be in the top 10
- 34:36because with my coach,
- 34:38we kind of do some maths
- 34:40and in the three workouts of the last day,
- 34:43I should have ended up...
- 34:4410 for all the three
- 34:48workouts to qualify so I
- 34:51was hoping to get into the
- 34:53the first 10 athletes and I
- 34:55knew it was possible but I
- 34:57was a bit um influenced by
- 34:59how you went in the during
- 35:01training so that that is
- 35:03also one reason why we
- 35:05don't we don't usually try
- 35:07the whole workout in the in
- 35:08the training because I
- 35:09don't want it to affect
- 35:11negative negatively the
- 35:13competition one so
- 35:16I was a bit worried when I was warming up,
- 35:20but I was feeling very good.
- 35:22Like I was feeling, I was pumped, you know,
- 35:27that was my day and it was
- 35:30one of my last chance to,
- 35:32to climb the leaderboard.
- 35:33And I remember I was
- 35:36listening to the music with
- 35:37my earphones and I was like, okay,
- 35:41I want to do good.
- 35:42I know I can do good.
- 35:44And I hope,
- 35:46the time I did in doing
- 35:48training was just like
- 35:50given by my body hurting.
- 35:52So I don't know, it was like a three, two,
- 35:55one go.
- 35:56I didn't think at all.
- 35:57Oh yeah, another thing.
- 35:59We had another girl from my program,
- 36:02the Mantra program.
- 36:03This year we had another girl qualified.
- 36:07She was called Martina
- 36:09Borrini and she was
- 36:11competing in the first heat.
- 36:14So when she finished, she went pretty good,
- 36:17actually.
- 36:18And she finished the workout.
- 36:21She came to me in the
- 36:22warm-up area and told me,
- 36:25the barbell is going to fly.
- 36:29You're going to do very good
- 36:31in the workout.
- 36:32So trust you because you're going good.
- 36:37The public will help you.
- 36:39So at three to one go,
- 36:41I suddenly realized that
- 36:43she was right because the
- 36:45barbell was flying.
- 36:46I think more than every other movement,
- 36:51when you have to move the barbell,
- 36:53is when the crowd manages
- 36:57to help you the most.
- 36:59So when you hear your name,
- 37:01you hear the screaming, the barbell,
- 37:05you feel like it's lighter than it is.
- 37:10a three-to-one go,
- 37:11like I switch off my brain
- 37:12and I just do one rep at the time.
- 37:17I was thinking, but nothing,
- 37:19like my mind was completely empty.
- 37:21I was so focused.
- 37:22I was listening to the crowd
- 37:26who was cheering because
- 37:27also there were many
- 37:28Italian people and they
- 37:30always give me a lot of power.
- 37:34And when I finished the workout, actually,
- 37:37I was not tired.
- 37:38Like, if I would have to do it again,
- 37:41probably I could have
- 37:43pushed it a bit harder.
- 37:45But, I mean, it was good.
- 37:47Actually,
- 37:48when I got to the last barbell
- 37:50and I looked at the timer,
- 37:54I usually don't do, like,
- 37:55never look at the timer.
- 37:57But I was seeing...
- 37:59like, 4.50 or something because it was,
- 38:02like, the last two reps.
- 38:04And for a moment, I thought, like,
- 38:07I saw wrong.
- 38:08Like,
- 38:09I was thinking, how can it be four?
- 38:11Because in training, at this time,
- 38:13it was like seven and something.
- 38:15So I looked at it twice, and it was like,
- 38:18no, no, it's four, it's four.
- 38:19So you're going good, you're going good.
- 38:21So I did those last two reps,
- 38:23and it was amazing.
- 38:24I was hoping to finish under five,
- 38:28but it was good.
- 38:31It's been an amazing feeling.
- 38:33And when I got back to the warm-up area,
- 38:36doing some...
- 38:39cool down we had the TVs so
- 38:42I could see the last heat
- 38:44where Laura was and I
- 38:45couldn't believe that she
- 38:47she did more than me so I
- 38:50was so happy I couldn't
- 38:52believe it yeah and your
- 38:54your time's held up for a
- 38:57week and then I think you
- 38:59ended up with the fourth
- 39:00fastest time in the world
- 39:02it's still third three third third
- 39:05Yeah, I think one was close.
- 39:07I think Dani was close.
- 39:10Dani was probably like a
- 39:11second or two after yours then.
- 39:12Yeah.
- 39:13Also, yeah, she did the 502.
- 39:17Oh.
- 39:17So one second.
- 39:21Wow.
- 39:22Yeah,
- 39:22but I'm more happy that if you think
- 39:25about me,
- 39:27I'm probably one of the shortest
- 39:32and one of the lightest.
- 39:34athlete in the whole
- 39:36competition floor so um
- 39:39this is even more
- 39:40satisfying you know big
- 39:42athletes like lara or any
- 39:45other like big athletes
- 39:46where in this case the
- 39:48weight body weight counts
- 39:49so um I'm proud of myself
- 39:52for what I've done being so
- 39:54tiny and so light and so short
- 39:57What I have to say is watching you do it,
- 40:00it was so beautiful to watch.
- 40:02You were so smooth.
- 40:04And for the bar to feel that
- 40:06light and for you to stay smooth,
- 40:08because that bar could get
- 40:10away from you if it felt too light,
- 40:12but you didn't let it.
- 40:15It just was beautiful to watch.
- 40:17But I have a couple of
- 40:18comments asking you questions.
- 40:21Did you see Olivia's run?
- 40:22Yeah, I saw it.
- 40:24I saw it.
- 40:25It was crazy.
- 40:28It was like the barbell was empty.
- 40:30And for a moment,
- 40:32I thought that she stepped
- 40:34one of the five stations.
- 40:36I mean, how could she be so fast?
- 40:40But yeah, she was really, really good.
- 40:43She totally deserved that time.
- 40:45She was crazy.
- 40:47Logan says,
- 40:48are you in more or less pain
- 40:50during competition?
- 40:54Um, that's a good question.
- 40:56Um,
- 40:57I usually heard like mostly of the time,
- 41:00as I was saying, um,
- 41:02to be an elite athlete,
- 41:03you have to take into
- 41:04account that you're going
- 41:06to be in pain for most of the time.
- 41:09So when I got to Samy's, um,
- 41:12my knee was hurting a bit.
- 41:15It was nothing serious,
- 41:16but because of my injuries
- 41:20at my ankle during Dubai championship,
- 41:23um just to remember on the
- 41:26last step of the last
- 41:28workout like while I was
- 41:29running to the finish line
- 41:31I injured my ankle I
- 41:33thought I i broke my ankle
- 41:36because I heard a crack but
- 41:38fortunately they were like
- 41:41just like two ligaments
- 41:42that I damaged and it took
- 41:44me two or three months to
- 41:46fully recover but because I was
- 41:49um crippling is that the
- 41:51right word crippling so I
- 41:54was not walking well so I
- 41:57was like leaning yeah so
- 42:00the knee of the other leg
- 42:02started hurting because i
- 42:05lean more weight on it so
- 42:08during like before semis my
- 42:11hurts my knees started
- 42:12hurting a bit but the thing
- 42:14is that usually when like
- 42:17that adrenaline feeling
- 42:19start going through your
- 42:21body like I usually don't
- 42:25don't feel pain anymore
- 42:27like I'm not used to take
- 42:29like anti-pain pills or
- 42:32something I usually don't
- 42:33take anything but
- 42:36I know that when adrenaline comes,
- 42:38I don't feel like anything.
- 42:39I remember last year I had, during semis,
- 42:42I had back pain.
- 42:44same pain,
- 42:46it was really hard during the first,
- 42:49the past week of the semis, sorry, yeah,
- 42:53the previous week of the semis,
- 42:54but at three to one go,
- 42:56like my brain 100% focused
- 42:59on the workout and I don't
- 43:01feel pain like any anymore.
- 43:04So yeah, fortunately during competition,
- 43:09I feel less pain than during training.
- 43:13So Logan says,
- 43:14I know all about the broken ankles.
- 43:18Yeah,
- 43:18it was not a good experience also
- 43:23because it was the last
- 43:24workout and it was one
- 43:28workout where the handstand
- 43:30walk was counting much,
- 43:33but I screwed up that workout.
- 43:35So it was like completely a
- 43:39moment to forget,
- 43:40like two hours to forget, but
- 43:43Yes, it was not easy.
- 43:44But as I was saying,
- 43:49many athletes have to take
- 43:51into account that they're
- 43:52going to suffer most of the time.
- 43:55Vi asks,
- 43:56what music pumps you up before
- 43:58stepping out on the floor?
- 44:01I have playlists.
- 44:02So I've been building this
- 44:05playlist since year.
- 44:07And every time I...
- 44:09heard um I listened to a
- 44:12song that I really like I
- 44:13put that immediately into
- 44:15the playlist which is
- 44:17always going on when I'm
- 44:19doing qualifiers for
- 44:20example online qualifiers
- 44:22and I remember this scene
- 44:25when I was doing qualify
- 44:26and quarterfinals
- 44:27qualifiers we were like me
- 44:30and other other boys and
- 44:32girls from my program we
- 44:33were in a in a gym and um I
- 44:38put my playlist
- 44:39before uh right before
- 44:42starting to record and one
- 44:44of my other friends told me
- 44:46oh elisa do you want me to
- 44:47put you some pump music for
- 44:49you during the workout and
- 44:50I was like no no I put this
- 44:52song this is the pump music
- 44:54like for me and it was like
- 44:55oh really so you're going
- 44:57to work out with this song
- 44:59so maybe for some people
- 45:02um, are not the right song to, uh,
- 45:05to be pumped up for the workout.
- 45:07But, um,
- 45:09I think everything is always personal.
- 45:11So maybe,
- 45:13I don't know if that song has
- 45:14some meaning for you or something, but,
- 45:17um, I have some song that really,
- 45:19really helped me to like
- 45:22focus mentally and they are
- 45:24able to make me, uh, give my best.
- 45:27Like my, my, um,
- 45:31Favorite and absolute is the 21 Reasons.
- 45:35The title of the song is 21 Reasons.
- 45:38And every time I hear to that song,
- 45:40I feel like I can crush the
- 45:43world and I feel invincible.
- 45:47So I guess everyone has it.
- 45:52Yes, Jodi, it is on Spotify.
- 45:54It's called 21 Reasons.
- 45:57I can show you.
- 45:58I think she wants to know,
- 45:59is your playlist on Spotify?
- 46:01There's a playlist.
- 46:02I think it is.
- 46:05You just need to write my nickname,
- 46:10which is Fulix with three
- 46:12X. And then the playlist is
- 46:15called... I don't know if you can... Oh,
- 46:20sorry.
- 46:20Yep.
- 46:24Qualifica...
- 46:26You can screenshot it and
- 46:27then you can search it.
- 46:31Here you can find some of the songs.
- 46:35Actually,
- 46:35all the songs I put as background
- 46:38music during my online
- 46:39qualifiers and also to
- 46:42focus during competitions.
- 46:44I remember being on the eco
- 46:47bike before the last
- 46:49workout of Semi this year.
- 46:51I stayed like for 15 minutes
- 46:54on the bike erg and
- 46:55listened to this music like
- 46:57with my eyes closed, just focusing.
- 47:00And while the music was going on,
- 47:02I knew for sure that they
- 47:05was going to add up well.
- 47:08So just to recap, her username is Felix,
- 47:11F-U-L-I, three Xs.
- 47:15And then it's Qualifica CF
- 47:18is the playlist.
- 47:20Yes, exactly.
- 47:20Yes.
- 47:22So don't judge me if you
- 47:23find a song which is not like, okay.
- 47:27That's so nice of you to share.
- 47:29You're welcome.
- 47:31So you had a top 20 finish
- 47:34last year at the games.
- 47:36After that,
- 47:37do you sit down with your coach and say,
- 47:39okay,
- 47:39these are the things we need to work on?
- 47:42And then do you set goals
- 47:44for the next season?
- 47:48Yes,
- 47:48every time during a competition we try
- 47:51to learn as much as we can
- 47:53from mistakes because of
- 47:54course you learn more with
- 47:58mistakes than when things
- 47:59are going well so every
- 48:01time after a competition me
- 48:03and my coach sit down like
- 48:05we sort of debrief every
- 48:07competition see what went
- 48:10wrong what went right and we
- 48:14We have a list on our iPhone when we,
- 48:17every time in the competition,
- 48:19we find some workouts or
- 48:22movement or maybe combined movements,
- 48:25which are not good for me.
- 48:26We update the list.
- 48:28and um we every time we can
- 48:32we work on my weaknesses we
- 48:35try to make them a bit less
- 48:36weaknesses and um so yeah
- 48:40after the last games of
- 48:41course we after alpaca we
- 48:44work a lot on legless or
- 48:46climb and on sled and stuff
- 48:49like that so I i feel a bit
- 48:52better now but still
- 48:55You know,
- 48:55you have to work a lot of weaknesses,
- 48:57but this means that most of
- 48:58the time you work
- 49:00on things you hate the most.
- 49:02But the risk is that doing them too much,
- 49:05you're going to burn out.
- 49:07You don't want to do them anymore.
- 49:09So he's also good, my coach,
- 49:12to make them the right balance.
- 49:16So of course,
- 49:18he makes me work on weaknesses.
- 49:20But also, he needs to put things I like.
- 49:23Otherwise,
- 49:24it's just working on things you
- 49:25don't like,
- 49:26and you end up hating this part.
- 49:29So yes,
- 49:30we usually work a lot on weaknesses.
- 49:32And for this year, of course, I mean,
- 49:37every year is a war.
- 49:41You're there with the 40
- 49:43best athletes in the whole world.
- 49:45So I think for this year,
- 49:48it would be a good result
- 49:51to place around 15th position.
- 49:54I would be satisfied.
- 49:59So you're working on these
- 50:01things like legless rope climbs or sleds.
- 50:04Do you then want to see them
- 50:06in a competition to see how
- 50:07far you've come?
- 50:10Yeah.
- 50:12No, it's always good to, like,
- 50:14since you work hard on them,
- 50:16it's good to see how far you're going.
- 50:20And if it's not enough,
- 50:22you know that you can work
- 50:24harder and get better and better.
- 50:28um of course the the the
- 50:31goal of crossfit is having
- 50:33less weaknesses as possible
- 50:35so uh of course I would
- 50:37like to test them uh to see
- 50:41like my level compared to
- 50:42the other ones even if
- 50:45maybe doing them in a
- 50:47workout maybe means that
- 50:48I'm going to uh maybe lower
- 50:51a bit in the leaderboard but of course
- 50:54Kevin Doyle asks,
- 50:56will Elisa be watching Euros this month?
- 51:00You mean football?
- 51:02I believe, I believe that's what he means.
- 51:04Yes.
- 51:04Yes.
- 51:05Tomorrow Italy is playing
- 51:06and I will be like in the
- 51:08front line to watch it.
- 51:10Also that there were
- 51:12European of athletics in the last,
- 51:16last weekend.
- 51:17And I,
- 51:17I always love to watch sports and TV
- 51:19and yeah,
- 51:20I was really happy that
- 51:22Italy went extremely good this year.
- 51:25We won many gold medals.
- 51:28So yes,
- 51:29but I will watch Euros as well of
- 51:31football.
- 51:32And the Olympics are coming
- 51:34up in a couple months,
- 51:36right after the CrossFit Games.
- 51:38Yes,
- 51:38I think I will stick in front of the
- 51:39TV all day.
- 51:41I like watching every sport,
- 51:43so it's just pure fun for a week.
- 51:47So I can't wait to see them.
- 51:49Yeah, I'm actually going to the U.S.
- 51:51Olympic swimming trials tomorrow.
- 51:53Oh, nice.
- 51:55I was a swimmer in college and growing up.
- 51:57And so my mom,
- 52:00for her mother's day and birthday,
- 52:01I bought her tickets and
- 52:03we're going to see that tomorrow.
- 52:04Oh, wow.
- 52:05And it's amazing.
- 52:06Yeah, so that'll be fun.
- 52:08Vi asks, what is more satisfying for you,
- 52:11doing well in an event
- 52:12you're expected to do well
- 52:14or improving in an event
- 52:15that contains weaknesses?
- 52:18I would say for sure the second one.
- 52:21I mean,
- 52:24the first rule of CrossFit maybe is
- 52:27that it's not that
- 52:30important how good you are
- 52:33in your workout that are good for you,
- 52:36but how you don't go too
- 52:42low in the ones you're not good at.
- 52:45So, of course,
- 52:47when you're not good in a
- 52:48workout and after doing that,
- 52:51you see that you didn't do that bad,
- 52:54of course,
- 52:54it's way more satisfying than
- 52:58doing okay in a workout.
- 53:00I mean,
- 53:00doing good in a workout that you
- 53:01know was going to be good.
- 53:05For example, last year,
- 53:07I remember at the Games,
- 53:09the workout with skierg and heavy sandbag.
- 53:16We had to squat in between skierg.
- 53:20And if you take skierg and sandbag,
- 53:25probably they're two of the
- 53:26most hated movements for me,
- 53:29plus combined together.
- 53:30So I approached that workout
- 53:33thinking this was going to be
- 53:36like I was going to be like
- 53:3738 in the leaderboard or
- 53:39something and I think I got
- 53:42like around 10 position or
- 53:4412 15 position and that was
- 53:47absolutely a surprise for
- 53:49me because uh I couldn't
- 53:51expect at all a 15 position
- 53:53in that workout in the
- 53:54crossfit game so I was
- 53:56really really I was happier
- 53:59of that workout than other workouts which
- 54:03Everyone expected me to go good, me,
- 54:06myself as well.
- 54:08When you do the skier,
- 54:09do you have to jump to get the handles?
- 54:12Yes, yes.
- 54:13Otherwise, I cannot reach them.
- 54:16Everything is way harder being short.
- 54:20You have to think about
- 54:21things that other people
- 54:23even cannot imagine.
- 54:25Yeah.
- 54:27Yeah, that's crazy.
- 54:28So I want to finish up with this.
- 54:32The European semifinal was electric.
- 54:35It was so deep.
- 54:38The stands were packed.
- 54:40And it has this feel because
- 54:43there's so many countries
- 54:44involved in Europe.
- 54:46So you have Italy, you have, um, France,
- 54:49you have the UK and it,
- 54:52and so you can cheer for
- 54:53your countrymen and country women.
- 54:55We don't get that in the
- 54:56United States because we're one country,
- 54:58right?
- 54:59When we go to semis.
- 55:00Yes.
- 55:02Is, is it as a, is what is more electric,
- 55:05the CrossFit games for you
- 55:07or the semifinal in Europe?
- 55:12um you mean like the
- 55:17atmosphere yeah yeah
- 55:23actually I think I prefer
- 55:25semifinals because um as I
- 55:28was saying yeah like every
- 55:30country has its own uh
- 55:34people that come to cheer
- 55:37people for their country.
- 55:39And every time I was doing a workout,
- 55:42I really could see,
- 55:44could hear people from
- 55:45Italy cheering for me.
- 55:47And that really gives me strength,
- 55:49as I was saying.
- 55:50And this, of course,
- 55:52it's not the case of the CrossFit Games.
- 55:55And yeah,
- 55:59I really like the atmosphere of
- 56:01semifinals.
- 56:02I think it's with this
- 56:05thing that every there are
- 56:06different countries like
- 56:08you it's like international
- 56:13environment so every yeah I
- 56:18like it more and I
- 56:21definitely think that and I
- 56:25hope that last year sorry
- 56:28next year they're going to
- 56:30give us more spots or at least
- 56:33maybe make two semifinals as
- 56:35in the US because this year was really,
- 56:38really, really tough.
- 56:38Like I think the first 15 were, um, could,
- 56:45uh, earn their spot, the CrossFit games,
- 56:47like could go to the games.
- 56:49Um, but I don't know.
- 56:53Um, I, I know, um,
- 56:57many people did um like took
- 57:01the scores of every athlete
- 57:02of each semi-finals from
- 57:04all over the world yes and
- 57:09you really can see that
- 57:10europe is a very good very
- 57:13strong field and it's a
- 57:16shame that we we got so few spots
- 57:21Europe and North America
- 57:22East dominated overall.
- 57:26Yeah.
- 57:27A lot.
- 57:29Yes.
- 57:31What I want to say finishing
- 57:32up with Europe's semifinal
- 57:33is I'm jealous.
- 57:35When I see that on TV,
- 57:37that's what I want for us here.
- 57:38Yeah.
- 57:39I think it's amazing.
- 57:42It was good.
- 57:42It just wasn't that good.
- 57:48yes I had the same feeling
- 57:50last year as well even more
- 57:52than this year because um I
- 57:54mean I've been to uh berlin
- 57:57last year so in germany and
- 57:59the atmosphere was just
- 58:01electrifying and every and
- 58:04when I when I watched the
- 58:05other semi-finals around
- 58:06the world they were like not
- 58:09the minimum part of that
- 58:12what we have so it was like
- 58:14and also I remember that
- 58:16american um speakers and
- 58:19something and all those
- 58:20people told that uh
- 58:23european semifinals is one
- 58:25of the best in terms of
- 58:27atmosphere of a number of
- 58:30people of uh it was amazing really it's
- 58:35one of the best it's like I
- 58:38think it's comparable to
- 58:39the CrossFit Games because
- 58:43both this year and last
- 58:44year we had like so many
- 58:46people it's like a football
- 58:50match when like it's like I
- 58:54mean I like the atmosphere
- 58:55and yeah I agree it's one
- 58:57of the best in the world
- 59:00So Philip Borowski says,
- 59:03it also has a feel because
- 59:04European fans of any sports are crazy.
- 59:07Yes, probably.
- 59:10Napoli's football team,
- 59:12fans at their home games.
- 59:14Scott, the whole stadium is shaking.
- 59:17Yeah,
- 59:17also because I think one of the
- 59:19reasons is that,
- 59:20as you were saying before,
- 59:21we have like 20 different
- 59:23countries and every person
- 59:26who is there for each
- 59:27country needs to make them hear,
- 59:31make them feel from the other ones.
- 59:34So every country has to
- 59:37prevail on the other one,
- 59:38also with the cheering, you know.
- 59:40So it's like a competition
- 59:42also not in the field, but in the...
- 59:44in the public so every
- 59:46country needs to make their
- 59:50own cheers to to win also
- 59:54like for the for the
- 59:55cheering so so if one
- 59:58cheers loud another one has
- 1:00:01to cheer louder so this way
- 1:00:03the whole building is like
- 1:00:05going crazy and it's
- 1:00:07amazing that's awesome
- 1:00:09Well,
- 1:00:10I'm going to leave you with this comment.
- 1:00:12Logan says, time to get my ass kicked.
- 1:00:14Going to go watch the rest after training.
- 1:00:16Scott, you're the man.
- 1:00:17Alisa, you're amazing.
- 1:00:18Can't wait to see you crush it in Texas.
- 1:00:21Thank you so much, Logan.
- 1:00:23Have a good training.
- 1:00:24So we're up on the hour.
- 1:00:26As always,
- 1:00:27the time flies when we get to
- 1:00:28talk to you.
- 1:00:29I'm so thankful that you
- 1:00:31took the time to do this with us.
- 1:00:33And I can't wait to see you in Texas.
- 1:00:36Thank you.
- 1:00:36Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:00:38Thank you to everybody in the chat.
- 1:00:40Your questions were awesome today.
- 1:00:42You added so much to this.
- 1:00:43Thank you for being here.
- 1:00:45With that,
