- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater, and it is Morning Jones Friday with my
- 0:25Speaker 1: good friend Corey Urban. Corey, you do the boxing stuff
- 0:28Speaker 1: with so many people, I don't even necessarily know where
- 0:30Speaker 1: to directly send them to find you at this point.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Sure. So, I mean, I call fights for DAZN. I'm
- 0:35Speaker 2: on Netflix a lot. I do stuff for Top Rank
- 0:37Speaker 2: and I write for Ring Magazine. Basically, anywhere you... watch
- 0:40Speaker 2: or read about boxing. I tend to pop up.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yo, man, that says so much about like what the
- 0:45Speaker 1: world of boxing is, because like, I'd be getting to
- 0:48Speaker 1: check for one of those people. They try to hide
- 0:49Speaker 1: the fact that I get to check from the other people.
- 0:51Speaker 1: You're like, nah, man, we all, this is what we
- 0:53Speaker 1: do to eat over here in this world. Exactly.
- 0:56Speaker 2: And I always try to be, you know, like I
- 0:58Speaker 2: try to be the neutral party where I can, I
- 1:00Speaker 2: can pop up and I can be a voice, uh,
- 1:03Speaker 2: or the man with the written word wherever I am
- 1:05Speaker 2: and be impartial. So I, I try to, to play
- 1:08Speaker 2: nice with everyone. And also then you can cash everyone's checks.
- 1:12Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So people who don't know, Corey and I worked together
- 1:15Speaker 1: on a little show called The Morning Jones that we
- 1:17Speaker 1: did on the SCORE satellite radio for the good folks
- 1:20Speaker 1: in Canada. Shout out to the Kang, Sasha Cargill. Shout
- 1:23Speaker 1: out Mike Hitman. Hey, man, we talked about this earlier.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Shout out to the man, John Levy. I follow you
- 1:28Speaker 1: on Instagram. You're fighting a good fight. I see what
- 1:30Speaker 1: you're talking about. You know what I mean? Since then,
- 1:33Speaker 1: Corey has gone on to do boxing for a whole
- 1:35Speaker 1: lot of people. We got a lot of things for
- 1:38Speaker 1: us to get to. These cats outside my window doing
- 1:40Speaker 1: some sort of serious renovation, like right now. But he decided,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I just saw it, he got a hammer in his hand.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He is literally banging on something directly outside the window.
- 1:51Speaker 1: What a lot of people do not know about Corey
- 1:53Speaker 1: is Corey is a R & B savant, like 1980s
- 1:58Speaker 1: specifically R & B savant. Corey knows it all. Corey's
- 2:02Speaker 1: all the way in there. And if, Corey, you had
- 2:05Speaker 1: ever wondered what it would be like if Bobby Brown
- 2:09Speaker 1: announced that the Don't Be Cruel Part 2 tour was
- 2:13Speaker 1: going to be happening in September of 2026. Now you
- 2:17Speaker 1: know how that feels because Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao
- 2:21Speaker 1: are going to fight each other in September. Now, to
- 2:24Speaker 1: be honest, this might be like Don't Be Cruel Part
- 2:26Speaker 1: 3 because the first fight was a little bit more
- 2:28Speaker 1: like Don't Be Cruel Part 2 in the sense that
- 2:32Speaker 1: We had been asking for that a lot sooner. And
- 2:34Speaker 1: by the time it came around, it wasn't the same
- 2:38Speaker 1: as the fight that we asked for. But correct me
- 2:40Speaker 1: if I'm wrong, it was still the highest grossing fight
- 2:42Speaker 1: that there has ever been, right?
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, by almost, it was the most watched, I mean,
- 2:47Speaker 2: in terms of pay-per-view buys and the highest grossing fight
- 2:50Speaker 2: of all time. It's the business-wise most successful fight that's
- 2:52Speaker 2: ever happened.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah, like no matter what it had to be done, right?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Like no matter how long it went or whatever. And
- 2:57Speaker 1: I've always been intrigued by this idea that that fight
- 3:00Speaker 1: was so interesting to people just because I personally never
- 3:03Speaker 1: got the feeling that Manny Pacquiao was like a giant star.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And in some ways Floyd Mayweather too, outside of the
- 3:09Speaker 1: context of each other, right? Like I felt like we
- 3:12Speaker 1: talked that fight up so much.
- 3:13Speaker 4: You know what it felt like? It felt like Chinese democracies.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Uh the the guns and roses record that'd be a
- 3:19Speaker 1: wait for 20 years i didn't know you were going
- 3:20Speaker 1: with that all right yeah by the way wasn't that
- 3:23Speaker 1: bad right it was it was all right but you
- 3:25Speaker 1: know it wasn't quite what it might have.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Been if it came out and call it 93 yeah.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Which is which is kind of exactly how the fight
- 3:32Speaker 2: turned out in the ring it was probably a slower
- 3:35Speaker 2: paced version of the way that it would have looked
- 3:38Speaker 2: at almost any other point in history i know there
- 3:40Speaker 2: are some people that argue that there was a period
- 3:43Speaker 2: of time, like 2009, 2010, Manny, that probably would have
- 3:48Speaker 2: had the absolute best chance of beating Floyd. But I
- 3:51Speaker 2: think there were a lot of people who felt that
- 3:53Speaker 2: no matter when you did that fight, the styles matched
- 3:56Speaker 2: up such that Floyd was going to win. Now, he
- 3:58Speaker 2: might have had more trouble in winning at different periods
- 4:02Speaker 2: of time than he ultimately did. But I think there
- 4:05Speaker 2: were the betting odds suggested. And I think the prevailing
- 4:09Speaker 2: opinion within the boxing community is was that Floyd was
- 4:12Speaker 2: going to win no matter what. At this point, there's
- 4:16Speaker 2: just new variables. Like, what does a 50-year-old Floyd wind
- 4:20Speaker 2: up looking like in an actual fight, not in an
- 4:22Speaker 2: exhibition against a non-boxer? We kind of know what this
- 4:26Speaker 2: version of Manny looks like because he damn near won
- 4:29Speaker 2: a world title last year. He almost beat Mario Barrios.
- 4:33Speaker 2: If he had, he would hold a world title right now,
- 4:36Speaker 2: or maybe he would have fought Ryan Garcia. I don't know.
- 4:38Speaker 2: But this... This is probably the first time where I,
- 4:43Speaker 2: you know, and I don't like to make predictions all
- 4:46Speaker 2: that much because I might wind up calling that fight
- 4:49Speaker 2: and then that gets really weird. But if you had
- 4:52Speaker 2: to ask me, this is the first time that I'm
- 4:55Speaker 2: not certain I can't conclusively with confidence pick Floyd because
- 5:01Speaker 2: age is such an unusual factor here that we have
- 5:04Speaker 2: to consider.
- 5:05Speaker 1: So you threw out something that was really fascinating and
- 5:09Speaker 1: I had seen it on the internet and I didn't
- 5:13Speaker 1: know how true this was, but you just reaffirmed it,
- 5:18Speaker 1: which is Manny Pacquiao has fought recently. And in that
- 5:24Speaker 1: fight that he fought recently, it was at a world
- 5:28Speaker 1: championship level. That's kind of crazy because when he fought
- 5:32Speaker 1: against Floyd and I know that, you know, he says
- 5:34Speaker 1: he had the injury during that fight. He was not
- 5:36Speaker 1: fighting at a world championship level at that point. It
- 5:39Speaker 1: never dawned on me. that 47-year-old Manny Pacquiao, especially fighting
- 5:44Speaker 1: in the weight classes that he's talking about, right? Because, like,
- 5:46Speaker 1: at least when George Foreman came back as an old
- 5:48Speaker 1: man and was fighting there, like, he was an old man, yes,
- 5:51Speaker 1: but at least he was still, like, getting hard as hell, right? Like,
- 5:55Speaker 1: you could see a world where big, flabby George Foreman
- 5:58Speaker 1: could win a fight just because, as Michael Moore, right?
- 6:02Speaker 1: All he had to do was catch you with that
- 6:04Speaker 1: one and then it would go. But with the little guys,
- 6:07Speaker 1: one would think that the variables that are most affected
- 6:09Speaker 1: by age, which is really quickness, right?
- 6:12Speaker 4: Quickness, right?
- 6:13Speaker 1: You would think that that would go away like that. No, man,
- 6:16Speaker 1: you say this dude, the last time we saw him,
- 6:18Speaker 1: he wasn't bad.
- 6:19Speaker 2: No, he was, listen, he, with another set of judges,
- 6:23Speaker 2: could have reasonably won that fight. I thought that, you know,
- 6:26Speaker 2: the draw was fine, but he could have reasonably won
- 6:29Speaker 2: that fight. And Manny Pacquiao at 47, would be a
- 6:33Speaker 2: current world champion. Now, does that say something about the
- 6:37Speaker 2: caliber of fighter that he was in there with that
- 6:39Speaker 2: night or the general caliber of the welterweight division presently? Probably,
- 6:44Speaker 2: but it also speaks to how good these guys were
- 6:49Speaker 2: and still are. That even with the erosion of time,
- 6:53Speaker 2: that Manny Pacquiao could be as good as some of
- 6:56Speaker 2: the best welterweights in the world right now, right? Like,
- 6:59Speaker 2: To put it into context, the win that Ryan Garcia
- 7:02Speaker 2: is being praised for, the best that he's ever looked
- 7:04Speaker 2: at as a professional, maybe against Mario Barrios just last weekend,
- 7:08Speaker 2: that was damn near the same win that Manny Pacquiao
- 7:12Speaker 2: would have had.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So that like does add a little bit of intrigue
- 7:16Speaker 2: to this fight is that, yes, this is a very
- 7:20Speaker 2: old version of these two that are going to get
- 7:22Speaker 2: in the ring. But are they they might still be
- 7:26Speaker 2: as good as the guys that are out there. So
- 7:29Speaker 2: it might not actually be that bad of a fight, though.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Yo, that's the thing. I assumed that this was going
- 7:34Speaker 4: to be a clown show, right?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Like if you're doing this because we've seen so many
- 7:39Speaker 1: clown shows. And to be fair, Floyd himself has chosen
- 7:43Speaker 1: to engage in clown shows, which. We can maybe talk
- 7:48Speaker 1: later about what we'll term the necessity of fighting, perhaps.
- 7:52Speaker 1: But I had always taken Floyd, though, say what we
- 7:55Speaker 1: want about him, he does take boxing very, very seriously.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And the idea that he would come out there, like
- 8:01Speaker 1: playing around with Conor McGregor was one thing, but like
- 8:03Speaker 1: John Gotti III and things like that. I understand that
- 8:08Speaker 1: most people will say no such thing on this, but
- 8:11Speaker 1: I did think that those things.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Were a bit beneath him.
- 8:14Speaker 1: This one, I never thought about it until like really
- 8:18Speaker 1: in the last 18 hours.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Wait, this is going to be an actual fight? Yeah, exactly.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Well, and at first, you know, because the announcements kind
- 8:27Speaker 2: of came in waves. First, we get the announcement that
- 8:29Speaker 2: Floyd's coming out of retirement and he's going to fight
- 8:32Speaker 2: Mike Tyson in the Democratic Republic.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Cloud show. Right.
- 8:35Speaker 2: So that's that's another exhibition.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Right. And that is in that, by the way. Yes.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Let's get back to that. But that is precisely like
- 8:42Speaker 2: the types of fights that you just mentioned against Logan
- 8:43Speaker 2: Paul and. against John Gotti III, these kind of like
- 8:47Speaker 2: what seems to be easy checks for Floyd scooping up.
- 8:51Speaker 2: But I think, and I'm sure we'll get into some
- 8:54Speaker 2: of the other reasons why Floyd may be coming back,
- 8:57Speaker 2: and there are perhaps some financial implications. We'll get into
- 9:01Speaker 2: that in a second. But I think one thing is
- 9:03Speaker 2: that Floyd probably watched Pacquiao versus Barrios and said, wait
- 9:08Speaker 2: a minute, this is a real fight. And Manny almost won. Like,
- 9:12Speaker 2: this could be a real thing. Maybe I could be
- 9:14Speaker 2: world champion again. Because you're right. Floyd takes boxing more
- 9:19Speaker 2: seriously than anything else. And even in his retirement, or pseudo-retirement,
- 9:25Speaker 2: he's still taking care of himself in a way that
- 9:27Speaker 2: a lot of athletes want. Floyd has never drank. He
- 9:29Speaker 2: doesn't smoke. You know, his biggest vice is that he
- 9:32Speaker 2: drinks cola. you know, like Floyd will still look like
- 9:36Speaker 2: Floyd Mayweather in the ring because he's, he's composed himself
- 9:39Speaker 2: or he's reported himself that way, uh, through the years. Uh,
- 9:43Speaker 2: but I think this is a real element that I
- 9:45Speaker 2: think that that changed things when Floyd realized that the
- 9:49Speaker 2: biggest fight I could still have is still against Manny
- 9:53Speaker 2: and we could turn it into a real fight. And
- 9:55Speaker 2: that turns it from, Hey, okay. It's just Floyd and
- 9:57Speaker 2: Manny dancing around to, I guess we gotta tune into this.
- 10:01Speaker 4: I also don't.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I'm not certain that Manny Pacquiao is capable of just
- 10:09Speaker 1: dancing around right like And I'm not sure that Floyd
- 10:14Speaker 1: Mayweather is capable of just dancing around if it's Manny
- 10:17Speaker 1: Pacquiao on.
- 10:19Speaker 4: The other side. Right.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Like he did not do Logan Paul like Anthony Joshua
- 10:24Speaker 1: did Jake Paul, which I found to be hilarious. He
- 10:27Speaker 1: was just like, hey, hey, wait.
- 10:28Speaker 4: A minute, man.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I need people to understand that I'm I'm knocking this
- 10:36Speaker 1: dude out. He put that man's jaw, it was like
- 10:40Speaker 1: a cartoon that shit spun around his neck. It's almost
- 10:43Speaker 1: like Jake choked to death because his jaw wrapped around
- 10:46Speaker 1: and choked his whole shit out. Floyd did not do
- 10:50Speaker 1: that to Logan Paul. That was on the board for
- 10:52Speaker 1: whatever reason. He chose not to do that to Logan Paul.
- 10:55Speaker 1: He has to fight Manny Pacquiao for real.
- 10:58Speaker 4: There's no... Imagine if Floyd.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Comes out there against Manny Pacquiao, and Manny Pacquiao chooses
- 11:05Speaker 1: to treat it actually like Ivan Drago, right? It was
- 11:08Speaker 1: supposed to be an exhibition.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Nah, baby.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Manny Pacquiao, you know, Corey, you and I, we talk
- 11:13Speaker 1: about this a lot. It is a part of it
- 11:15Speaker 1: in this fight. Manny Pacquiao doing this for his people, Sujente.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Sujente.
- 11:21Speaker 1: On top of everything else, man, you can't get Floyd
- 11:24Speaker 1: beat your black ass again, dog. Like this is, this is,
- 11:26Speaker 1: this is something else. Like me and my people, we
- 11:28Speaker 1: ain't really got no beef with the Filipinos in that way.
- 11:30Speaker 4: But on the other side, Hey, Hey, Hey, nah, nah, nah, man. No, sir.
- 11:35Speaker 3: No, sir.
- 11:35Speaker 4: It's gotta be a fight.
- 11:36Speaker 2: It's gotta be for, for all the reasons that you
- 11:38Speaker 2: just pointed out that I don't think that they can
- 11:40Speaker 2: fake it against one another. But again, the prospect that
- 11:44Speaker 2: either of these two guys could, and it's not completely
- 11:49Speaker 2: out of the question. win this fight and then go
- 11:52Speaker 2: on to win a world title in Floyd's case at
- 11:54Speaker 2: 50 years old, it necessitates him trying in this fight.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Like number one, it is going to be a real
- 12:01Speaker 2: sanctioned professional fight. This one is not an exhibition, right?
- 12:04Speaker 2: So it's a fight fight. But even in fight fights,
- 12:07Speaker 2: of course, there are some people, there are some circumstances
- 12:10Speaker 2: where you might expect them to loaf it and kind of,
- 12:12Speaker 2: you know, play the hits a little bit. maybe try
- 12:14Speaker 2: in the final round, kind of like the oldies tennis tour, right?
- 12:18Speaker 2: When you watch Pete Sampras versus whoever, they'll try in
- 12:21Speaker 2: the final set, not otherwise. Listen, do you think that
- 12:26Speaker 2: Floyd or Manny could beat, I'll just throw a name
- 12:28Speaker 2: out here, do you think they could beat Roley Romero
- 12:31Speaker 2: right now for a world title?
- 12:34Speaker 4: Possibly, right?
- 12:35Speaker 2: That is a real possibility for either of these guys.
- 12:38Speaker 2: So they have to take it seriously and they have
- 12:40Speaker 2: to fight for real.
- 12:40Speaker 1: These cats just can't walk away, huh?
- 12:44Speaker 4: For a lot of reasons.
- 12:45Speaker 2: For a lot of reasons.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Let's chalk up, because we're going to see another interesting
- 12:51Speaker 1: test of this is going to be Terrence Crawford, who
- 12:53Speaker 1: Terrence Crawford is offended that you think that he'll come back.
- 12:59Speaker 1: He believes that he has made a decision to walk away,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and it would be a compromise of his integrity if
- 13:05Speaker 1: he were to ever come back to boxing. If you
- 13:06Speaker 1: saw that clip with him and Shannon Crowder on the pivot,
- 13:09Speaker 1: where Shannon Crowder... Terrence Crawford really said that it would
- 13:13Speaker 1: be like a violation of his soul if he were
- 13:16Speaker 1: to box again. And Shannon Crowder said, for $ 100 million,
- 13:20Speaker 1: I ain't got no soul.
- 13:21Speaker 4: And Terrence Crawford said to this man's face, that's just
- 13:25Speaker 4: what kind of guy you are.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And I don't know if Shannon Crowder took that as
- 13:31Speaker 1: the insult that I received it as, right? He was
- 13:35Speaker 1: just calling him empty. He just called him empty, right?
- 13:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But, you know, everybody, Lennox Lewis is the one guy
- 13:41Speaker 1: that I can think of off the top of my
- 13:42Speaker 1: head that did not come back. I guess Rocky Marciano, though,
- 13:45Speaker 1: didn't he die young? So I don't even know if that, like.
- 13:47Speaker 4: He died, yeah.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And other than that, like, really weird kind of like
- 13:50Speaker 2: VHS where him and Muhammad Ali kind of simulate a fight. Yeah,
- 13:55Speaker 2: he didn't come back.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but he was just like, you know, but
- 13:58Speaker 1: just about everybody comes back. Now, to be fair to Floyd,
- 14:04Speaker 1: I don't know what it is that Floyd does to
- 14:08Speaker 1: pass the time if he is not a boxer. The
- 14:11Speaker 1: only thing I know about what there is for him
- 14:14Speaker 1: to do to pass the time is the same problem
- 14:17Speaker 1: that everybody else has when it comes to the idea
- 14:19Speaker 1: of leaving your job. And as someone who has done
- 14:22Speaker 1: various fits of unemployment, you recognize very quickly that The
- 14:26Speaker 1: only thing in your life that does not cost money
- 14:29Speaker 1: is going to work. And that's just if you have
- 14:33Speaker 1: regular people habits and are into regular people things. Floyd
- 14:40Speaker 1: Mayweather would... What is he doing with himself? Is he
- 14:44Speaker 1: sitting around reading, right? Do you think he's working on
- 14:46Speaker 1: his memoirs? What is, you think he's hiking, right?
- 14:50Speaker 4: Like you think he's out here meditating?
- 14:51Speaker 1: I don't know what he's doing, but it seemed like
- 14:54Speaker 1: he would be the guy that wouldn't come back if
- 14:56Speaker 1: for no other reason than that.
- 14:57Speaker 4: 50 and 0 thing really means something.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think there's a couple things going on
- 15:04Speaker 2: with Floyd. I think all of that, all of that
- 15:07Speaker 2: is true. Floyd has an incredibly expensive lifestyle. And when
- 15:10Speaker 2: you ask, what is he doing? when he's not fighting, well, it's,
- 15:13Speaker 2: it's these exhibitions and then just generally business, right? Like
- 15:17Speaker 2: he's right. He's talks about making investments. He talks about
- 15:20Speaker 2: making money, the things that flow. And, and I, I
- 15:23Speaker 2: don't think I'm doing any like extraordinary like analysis of
- 15:27Speaker 2: Floyd's brain in saying that the things that he cares
- 15:30Speaker 2: about most are being the greatest boxer of all time
- 15:33Speaker 2: and having a lot of money. But he also knows
- 15:35Speaker 2: that the, the best way for him to make a
- 15:37Speaker 2: lot of money is to box and And the other
- 15:41Speaker 2: thing that he cares about is being a record holder.
- 15:46Speaker 2: And so there's two things that I think are, that
- 15:49Speaker 2: probably motivated Floyd. And this is just my speculation. Number one,
- 15:53Speaker 2: for forever and ever, at least for the last like
- 15:56Speaker 2: 15 years, he's held all the records in terms of
- 16:00Speaker 2: gate proceeds, pay-per-view numbers, viewership, all that. In recent times,
- 16:04Speaker 2: with Netflix coming into the boxing equation, we've seen Jake
- 16:08Speaker 2: Paul and Mike Tyson do whatever it was, 109 million viewers, right?
- 16:13Speaker 2: So now there's a record out there that Floyd doesn't have,
- 16:16Speaker 2: but he can come back and maybe beat that record.
- 16:20Speaker 2: That's one thing. There's also the record of being one
- 16:23Speaker 2: of the oldest world champions. He could theoretically come back
- 16:26Speaker 2: and maybe do that. But the other thing going on, Bo,
- 16:29Speaker 2: and there's always the speculation when people when boxers come
- 16:34Speaker 2: back later in their career and they come back later
- 16:36Speaker 2: in life, the instant assumption is, are they broke? Because
- 16:40Speaker 2: we've seen that any number of times with athletes and
- 16:44Speaker 2: oftentimes with boxers.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Just about every single one of them.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Just about every single one.
- 16:50Speaker 4: We got Linux Lewis and we got the rest of y'all.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Everybody else, right? Everybody, seemingly all of your faves, they've
- 16:57Speaker 2: had a sad comeback that in a lot of cases
- 17:00Speaker 2: was tied to money. In Floyd's case, and I'm going
- 17:03Speaker 2: to be very specific here, I don't think that Floyd
- 17:08Speaker 2: Mayweather is broke, right? Like if the three of us
- 17:12Speaker 2: went out for dinner, Floyd's still picking up the tab.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Could Floyd buy you a car or a house and
- 17:18Speaker 2: not appreciably change his life? Yes. But what is going on,
- 17:22Speaker 2: I don't know if you've read, but he did file
- 17:24Speaker 2: a lawsuit that Al Heyman is not a party in
- 17:27Speaker 2: the lawsuit, but Showtime is, where he alleges that 340,
- 17:31Speaker 2: is it 340 or 342 million?
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Of his career proceeds are unaccounted for. And so even
- 17:34Speaker 2: if Floyd isn't broke, if, 340 million of the 1.2
- 17:46Speaker 2: billion that you think you made in your career is
- 17:49Speaker 2: suddenly missing. That's 40% of the money that you thought
- 17:53Speaker 2: you had or were entitled to that you don't have.
- 17:56Speaker 2: And even if you're not broke, a good way to
- 17:59Speaker 2: get back up to the level that you thought you
- 18:01Speaker 2: were at is to come back and make an immense
- 18:03Speaker 2: amount of money.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Well, there is also a real question is whether he's liquid.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Because he seems to have, like I read that article
- 18:13Speaker 1: that came out, that he seems to have a lot
- 18:14Speaker 1: of money tied up in real estate. And that the
- 18:18Speaker 1: way to save himself from himself was to get money
- 18:21Speaker 1: and to buy something with it. Right? Like it's a
- 18:24Speaker 1: very Jay-Z on album school of financial management. Right.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Go put the money in something.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Go, go, go throw the money in something there.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I will also say and I imagine this also applies.
- 18:38Speaker 4: To people at the level of Floyd Mayweather.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:42Speaker 4: And, you know, you and I knew each other way
- 18:44Speaker 4: back when. Right.
- 18:47Speaker 1: At every point, you're going to get to that place
- 18:50Speaker 1: where you said to yourself, you know, I think what
- 18:54Speaker 1: I thought would be enough. And that number just keeps changing.
- 18:58Speaker 1: That number always, no matter who it is, every time
- 19:02Speaker 1: somebody thought they had enough, that number keeps going up
- 19:06Speaker 1: just a little bit, just a little bit, just a
- 19:09Speaker 1: little bit.
- 19:10Speaker 4: And what Floyd's been at the place he's in now, right?
- 19:12Speaker 4: He retired, what, like 10 years ago?
- 19:14Speaker 2: I mean, officially, yeah, I guess.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Andre Berger's last fight.
- 19:18Speaker 1: He stretched this out a lot longer if he did
- 19:22Speaker 1: go broke, which again would be insane. But if he did,
- 19:25Speaker 1: don't lie, he stretched it out longer than most people
- 19:28Speaker 1: thought that he would stretch it out before he came
- 19:30Speaker 1: back to do this. And I agree, it feels impossible
- 19:34Speaker 1: that he would have to. It doesn't feel like he
- 19:36Speaker 1: really has to. Now that Pacquiao, oh, that's different.
- 19:41Speaker 4: That's different.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Because the one mistake all of these cats make is
- 19:44Speaker 1: they always get tied up with somebody that think you
- 19:46Speaker 1: can run a game on the tax man.
- 19:48Speaker 4: And you can't. Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 2: You know, and there have been very tragic examples of
- 19:52Speaker 2: that throughout history. Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Lewis, Joe Lewis
- 19:57Speaker 2: is the most tragic example of that. Yeah. And I
- 20:01Speaker 2: don't know. I mean, those talks about Pacquiao's finances have
- 20:04Speaker 2: seemed to kind of cool off. as the years have
- 20:07Speaker 2: gone on. Does that mean that it's entirely cleared up?
- 20:10Speaker 2: I don't know. I do know that he has a
- 20:12Speaker 2: brand new promotional outfit. Manny Pacquiao Promotions has an event
- 20:17Speaker 2: this weekend in Verona, New York. Manny Pacquiao Jr. is
- 20:20Speaker 2: going to be fighting on it. So hopefully things have
- 20:23Speaker 2: stabilized financially for Manny. But yeah, I would think that
- 20:28Speaker 2: You know, over the years, Manny made a little less
- 20:30Speaker 2: money than Floyd and he had some problems that were
- 20:33Speaker 2: very public. So this may be I think that Manny
- 20:36Speaker 2: was going to be very happy to cash this check,
- 20:38Speaker 2: whatever size it is.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Hey, man, I'm a little nervous about what that Manny out,
- 20:43Speaker 1: Manny out, what that Manny Pacquiao promotion is going to
- 20:47Speaker 1: be after that Triple G fight that you invited me to.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Tell people about this all the time. There was a
- 20:53Speaker 1: Triple G fight at Madison Square Garden. Corey was on
- 20:56Speaker 1: the call. He got me tickets.
- 20:57Speaker 4: It was real cool. I think this is what I
- 20:58Speaker 4: watched with your pops. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Triple G versus Steve Rolls, the Canadian.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Now, keep in mind that one of the fighters on
- 21:05Speaker 1: the card had a bullet in his back, and he
- 21:09Speaker 1: couldn't do the perfunctory MRI to be clear for the
- 21:12Speaker 1: fight because there was a possibility that the bullet would
- 21:15Speaker 1: roll over onto his spine and leave him paralyzed. And
- 21:17Speaker 1: he said, fuck it, I guess you just go fight.
- 21:20Speaker 1: But what I'll always remember about that is two things. One,
- 21:23Speaker 1: shout out to the brothers that went on Amazon and
- 21:26Speaker 1: got boxes of Kazakhstan flags and was outside moving them things, boy.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Actually, it's three things.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Two things, I don't know how many of those Kazakhstanis
- 21:35Speaker 1: were in New York City, but Kazakhstan was deep.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Madison Square Garden.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I learned a lot about Kazakhstan, including they have three
- 21:43Speaker 1: different looks. It's like the full on Asian look, the
- 21:46Speaker 1: full on Russian look, and like the in between Central
- 21:49Speaker 1: Asian Genghis Khan-ish sort of thing that was going on.
- 21:53Speaker 4: But number three.
- 21:54Speaker 1: It was very clear that the subtitle of that promotion
- 21:57Speaker 1: was Kazakhstan defeats overwhelmed Afro-Americans. The last two fights were
- 22:04Speaker 1: two dudes from Kazakhstan against two black dudes that had
- 22:07Speaker 1: no business being out there with them.
- 22:09Speaker 4: And they beat the shit out of them. Triple G,
- 22:12Speaker 4: I did not realize how hard them.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Dudes was really hitting until I saw Triple G take
- 22:15Speaker 1: that dude out with that uppercut. But I was like, oh,
- 22:18Speaker 1: so your whole plan was just come beat up on
- 22:19Speaker 1: some black.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Dudes, huh? And they were like, yep. And the crowd
- 22:22Speaker 4: loved it.
- 22:23Speaker 2: And it did not matter that Steve Rolls is like
- 22:25Speaker 2: from Chatham, Ontario, either.
- 22:27Speaker 4: It makes no difference. No, no, no, no, no. He
- 22:30Speaker 4: fits the bill, baby. He he fit the bill.
- 22:34Speaker 1: But I got to say, you make me feel a
- 22:36Speaker 1: little bit better about what is possible with this fight.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Now that I think about it, because I really had
- 22:41Speaker 1: no idea that Pacquiao had this fight the other day
- 22:43Speaker 1: that he came out and look like a real fighter.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah, man. Like, listen, of course, this is going to
- 22:49Speaker 2: be an ancient version of these two. But this is
- 22:53Speaker 2: a situation where these guys were so far ahead of
- 22:57Speaker 2: the pack that even as time has eroded them, they
- 23:01Speaker 2: can still be competitive with some guys out there, right? Like,
- 23:04Speaker 2: everyone's goal in boxing doesn't always have to be to
- 23:07Speaker 2: be number one pound for pound.
- 23:09Speaker 4: As you get a.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Little bit older, you can pick and choose and kind
- 23:12Speaker 2: of aim– you know, for different titles and different goals.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And there are ones out there that could be very
- 23:19Speaker 2: impressive that are very attainable for both of them.
- 23:22Speaker 1: All right, now coming up next, I want to talk
- 23:23Speaker 1: about kind of, you know, you and I both hate
- 23:27Speaker 1: any boxing is dead conversation and all of this, but
- 23:29Speaker 1: I do think that it's an interesting time in boxing.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And is this something that has been pointed out by
- 23:34Speaker 1: the Jake Paul thing that, well, two things I want
- 23:37Speaker 1: to get to with Corey coming up next. Ever wanted

- 26:18Speaker 1: I mean, I admit, watching Jake Paul have the records
- 26:22Speaker 1: for the fights, like, it hurts, bro. Like it's not,
- 26:26Speaker 1: it doesn't make me feel good about anything. And it's
- 26:29Speaker 1: just like, I think for people who are really into boxing,
- 26:33Speaker 1: I feel like it has to be somewhat disheartening. Like
- 26:35Speaker 1: the idea that Jake Paul fighting guys could draw so
- 26:41Speaker 1: much attention. But on the other hand, I do think
- 26:45Speaker 1: it points out something that's important for people to remember
- 26:48Speaker 1: about boxing is that in the end, there is a
- 26:52Speaker 1: big boxing scene and a boxing world and there's weight
- 26:55Speaker 1: classes and there's rankings and there's up and down and
- 26:58Speaker 1: everything else. And there's a lot of fights that even
- 27:01Speaker 1: if people don't talk so much about them in the
- 27:03Speaker 1: general audience that are very much so watched. People are
- 27:06Speaker 1: still making money off of boxing, right? Like I don't,
- 27:09Speaker 1: I don't, I guess there's some people still making money
- 27:11Speaker 1: off of horse racing, but this is not that, right?
- 27:13Speaker 1: Like this is not, boxing is not dying in the
- 27:16Speaker 1: ways that people often want to say.
- 27:18Speaker 4: But, I do feel.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Like the phenomenon of Jake Paul boxing has kind of
- 27:25Speaker 1: pointed out to people, if you didn't remember it, it's
- 27:28Speaker 1: an events game, right? Like it is a big event
- 27:31Speaker 1: sort of thing. And a big event can pop up
- 27:34Speaker 1: out of anywhere. A big event can be big because
- 27:37Speaker 1: of the way that it is promoted. And so Mayweather
- 27:40Speaker 1: Pacquiao still has a great opportunity to be a big thing.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 27:44Speaker 2: And particularly the other thing is that it's going to
- 27:46Speaker 2: be in the Sphere in Las Vegas, right, which has
- 27:48Speaker 2: hosted UFC in the past. But this is going to
- 27:50Speaker 2: be the first time that we're going to see boxing
- 27:53Speaker 2: presented in there also. And that's going to be another aspect. Like,
- 27:57Speaker 2: I thought that Canelo Crawford on Netflix as a television
- 28:02Speaker 2: presentation was the best that boxing has ever looked on TV.
- 28:07Speaker 2: So that's going to be another drawing factor as well.
- 28:09Speaker 2: But you're right. Like, boxing is essentially– Yes, it's a
- 28:13Speaker 2: television property, but it is a series of one-off events.
- 28:19Speaker 2: And it's also a ticket-selling venture, right? Like, Clarissa Shields,
- 28:24Speaker 2: I just called her fight on Sunday in Detroit. 18,000
- 28:28Speaker 2: people in Little Caesars Arena. Raucous event, right? It is
- 28:31Speaker 2: a one-night event that the biggest boxing events are on
- 28:35Speaker 2: par with or surpass all of the biggest concerts that
- 28:40Speaker 2: are out there.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Like, Tank Davis.
- 28:42Speaker 2: when he was fighting at Barclays Center, his single night
- 28:45Speaker 2: ticket sales, his gate receipts and whatnot, they're on par
- 28:48Speaker 2: with the biggest pop acts in the world. So that
- 28:51Speaker 2: is what it is. And when someone who is ultra
- 28:54Speaker 2: famous comes in and takes part in boxing, things outside
- 28:59Speaker 2: of boxing on a day-to-day basis are more popular than boxing.
- 29:02Speaker 2: That shouldn't be surprising to people, right? If you could
- 29:08Speaker 2: take any number of celebrities and if they came in
- 29:11Speaker 2: the novelty of them fighting and the, the popularity that
- 29:15Speaker 2: they have brought from outside of boxing. Like, yeah, it
- 29:17Speaker 2: is going to be, it's going to be big, but.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Especially when people want to see them get their asses kicked.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Like when I did the thing on game theory with
- 29:25Speaker 1: Jake Paul, it was amazing. Like the parents of the
- 29:28Speaker 1: kids who grew up on Jake Paul hate him.
- 29:30Speaker 4: My God.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 29:32Speaker 2: And you don't think he knows that, right? Like he,
- 29:34Speaker 2: he made the correct calculus and has made an immense
- 29:37Speaker 2: amount of money off of it. But boxing as a machine,
- 29:40Speaker 2: rolls along week after week, ticket sales, they're in arenas everywhere,
- 29:44Speaker 2: all across the world. Like I listen, if boxing is dying,
- 29:47Speaker 2: I don't know where my mortgage payments are coming from.
- 29:52Speaker 1: It's not an easy talker. It's kind of, in a
- 29:55Speaker 1: lot of ways to me, similar to baseball. I always
- 29:59Speaker 1: say this. Go look at the attendance numbers on baseball.
- 30:01Speaker 1: They're still good. Go look on the viewership numbers of baseball.
- 30:04Speaker 1: They're still good. But the only place really to talk
- 30:08Speaker 1: about baseball is on a baseball podcast. It is on
- 30:11Speaker 1: a baseball show. It's no longer a general audience talker.
- 30:15Speaker 4: I would also.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Make the same argument about UFC. It's just that since
- 30:18Speaker 1: UFC is not a sport, it is a federation. They
- 30:21Speaker 1: can make the, I mean, obviously with the WME situation
- 30:24Speaker 1: they got, right? But they could have a relationship with
- 30:26Speaker 1: ESPN or have a relationship in these places that put
- 30:29Speaker 1: the names out there. But for me personally- There's no
- 30:32Speaker 1: MMA fight you can tell me is going to happen
- 30:34Speaker 1: and you get me to watch. You tell me it's
- 30:35Speaker 1: a big boxing match. I don't really ask that many
- 30:38Speaker 1: questions about who's in it. You tell me it's a
- 30:40Speaker 1: big boxing match. It sounds to me like something I
- 30:41Speaker 1: need to know about.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Yeah, because I think a big boxing match, even if
- 30:45Speaker 2: you don't know who the participants are, like I think
- 30:47Speaker 2: that the energy, the presentation of a live boxing match,
- 30:51Speaker 2: I think it could still on a one night basis
- 30:54Speaker 2: supersede anything. And I think what we're talking about generally
- 30:57Speaker 2: is just like it's the erosion of monoculture in the
- 31:00Speaker 2: world where we can all find what the algorithm is
- 31:04Speaker 2: going to spit at us, these little silos that we
- 31:06Speaker 2: can exist within. But to your point, there aren't too
- 31:09Speaker 2: many things that can, even for one night, break out
- 31:13Speaker 2: and be monoculture. Like as weird as some of these
- 31:17Speaker 2: kind of novelty events have been, you know, like Jake
- 31:20Speaker 2: and Mike, for example, there was something really cool about
- 31:24Speaker 2: that night where every single one of the people in
- 31:27Speaker 2: my life were talking to me about boxing. And like,
- 31:30Speaker 2: I don't talk to everyone in my life about what
- 31:32Speaker 2: I do for a living. I have a lot of
- 31:33Speaker 2: people in my life. Most people don't watch any boxing,
- 31:36Speaker 2: but that everyone and my parents were talking about Mike
- 31:39Speaker 2: coming back. And like, there aren't other sports, even the Olympics,
- 31:43Speaker 2: not everyone in my life watched the figure skating, you know,
- 31:46Speaker 2: even as, as much of a stranglehold as like Alyssa
- 31:49Speaker 2: Liu had on our lives. Even that wasn't able to
- 31:52Speaker 2: seemingly break through in the way that a big, big,
- 31:55Speaker 2: big boxing event can. So, you know, to whatever degree
- 31:58Speaker 2: you think boxing has taken its step back, it still
- 32:02Speaker 2: has that ability to snatch the spotlight in a way
- 32:05Speaker 2: that other things can't.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, it reminds me of put a pin in
- 32:10Speaker 1: it that I want to take the pin out that
- 32:11Speaker 1: we hadn't got to earlier, which was. Floyd and Mike
- 32:15Speaker 1: Tyson are going to do this exhibition. Now, we know
- 32:18Speaker 1: Mike needs the money. Mike is in a perpetual state
- 32:21Speaker 1: of needing the money. We understand this. There's a part
- 32:24Speaker 1: of me that it makes it tough when I see
- 32:27Speaker 1: him out there in this just because of the understanding
- 32:29Speaker 1: of that part. However, as we talked about earlier, Corey
- 32:34Speaker 1: does a lot of work for a lot of people,
- 32:35Speaker 1: so I ain't putting him in no bind. I'm going
- 32:37Speaker 1: to avoid it if at all possible. But the idea
- 32:41Speaker 1: that they're going to take this back to Kinshasa And
- 32:43Speaker 1: for those of you who don't quite understand the idea
- 32:47Speaker 1: of a fight in Kinshasa, what was once Zaire, which
- 32:50Speaker 1: is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is that
- 32:52Speaker 1: is where Ali Foreman, Rumble in the Jungle, was. And
- 32:56Speaker 1: it was a big deal, the idea that that fight
- 32:58Speaker 1: was in Africa and everything else. And I just don't...
- 33:02Speaker 1: Why we got to do it with this one, man?
- 33:03Speaker 4: Like, why we... This is not Rumble in the Jungle
- 33:07Speaker 4: part two. You understand what I'm saying? Like, this is.
- 33:10Speaker 2: It shouldn't be this. I, listen, I don't want to
- 33:14Speaker 2: cast too much doubt here, but this is also an
- 33:17Speaker 2: event without a date and without a location.
- 33:20Speaker 4: It's just that it's a notion.
- 33:24Speaker 2: You can come to your own conclusions.
- 33:26Speaker 4: I got you. Okay. That's a very important detail.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Now, something else I wanted to ask about, and I
- 33:33Speaker 1: asked this speaking generally, because this was the thought that
- 33:36Speaker 1: I had watching Anthony Joshua's String out the fight against
- 33:40Speaker 1: Jake Paul or even to a degree watching Floyd Mayweather,
- 33:44Speaker 1: who at any point could have put Conor McGregor to sleep,
- 33:46Speaker 1: letting that go a while. And it was easy to understand.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Floyd was trying to get people to show they paid
- 33:50Speaker 1: for whatever. But I have I have worried about the
- 33:53Speaker 1: incentive structure of fights on streaming. where the variable that
- 33:58Speaker 1: Netflix cares a lot about in its general business is
- 34:02Speaker 1: time spent viewing, which then raises questions about the incentive
- 34:07Speaker 1: structure for the fighters who are there, whether there is
- 34:10Speaker 1: value in letting this fight go a little bit longer.
- 34:14Speaker 1: That being said, I do realize and feel like that
- 34:17Speaker 1: when it's an actual fight, and not an exhibition ain't
- 34:20Speaker 1: nobody got time to be playing around trying to get
- 34:23Speaker 1: a little try to try to try to go till
- 34:25Speaker 1: you get to the time and a half part on
- 34:27Speaker 1: the clock right but it is an interesting thing that
- 34:30Speaker 1: comes with with with streamers in boxing is there is
- 34:34Speaker 1: room for interesting things to happen because of that.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Yeah and i think that some of this may be
- 34:39Speaker 2: kind of like some of the wackiness that we've seen
- 34:43Speaker 2: with sports gambling of late you know we're starting to
- 34:45Speaker 2: become a little bit skeptical of like are people trying
- 34:48Speaker 2: to find ways to game these metrics, to get rich
- 34:51Speaker 2: off these little schemes and whatnot. I would say that
- 34:55Speaker 2: even in a situation where a fighter thought that they
- 34:58Speaker 2: could kind of string out a fight to boost viewership
- 35:02Speaker 2: numbers or length of viewership, the way to do that
- 35:06Speaker 2: is to add stuff in between fights. The production has
- 35:09Speaker 2: got you on that. If we could have a 25-minute
- 35:13Speaker 2: chat at the desk and that will string those numbers
- 35:15Speaker 2: out way longer than Anthony Joshua- jabbing and moving around
- 35:20Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 35:20Speaker 4: So great point if if someone wanted.
- 35:23Speaker 2: To doctor the numbers there are far easier ways to
- 35:26Speaker 2: do that than by moving a little bit more you
- 35:28Speaker 2: know what i mean.
- 35:29Speaker 1: No but this is and i would just say this
- 35:31Speaker 1: is this is me making a statement on the world
- 35:34Speaker 1: an interesting variable or and i don't know if that's
- 35:36Speaker 1: variables the right word but something that happens when you
- 35:39Speaker 1: make when we went from sales to streaming is that
- 35:44Speaker 1: take it for music for example I give you a CD.
- 35:48Speaker 1: You give me $ 13. That CD is yours. There are
- 35:52Speaker 1: a million reasons why you might have bought that CD.
- 35:56Speaker 1: You might have bought that CD because you love the cover.
- 35:59Speaker 1: You might have bought that CD because you have a
- 36:01Speaker 1: set of everything else that other artists ever did. You
- 36:04Speaker 1: may have bought that CD because you love one song.
- 36:06Speaker 1: You might have bought that CD because you love every
- 36:08Speaker 1: song on it. But in the end, it doesn't really matter.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Once you bought it, it's yours forever. to do whatever
- 36:15Speaker 1: you want to do with it, right? With streaming, the
- 36:19Speaker 1: only purpose of an album is to listen to it, right?
- 36:25Speaker 1: And I understand that for a lot of people, they're like, duh,
- 36:28Speaker 1: it's music. That's why I bought it.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Yes and no.
- 36:30Speaker 1: I can take you over to this collection of vinyl
- 36:33Speaker 1: I got, and I can show you the things that
- 36:35Speaker 1: I bought because I like the covers. I can show
- 36:38Speaker 1: you the things for whatever reason. That is the reason
- 36:42Speaker 1: why I have the thing.
- 36:43Speaker 4: Streaming and.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Pay-per-view was interesting because that's a sale. You have bought
- 36:50Speaker 1: this fight. Maybe you bought it to watch it by yourself.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Maybe you bought it to invite everybody over and to
- 36:54Speaker 1: have a party or whatever it is. But in the end,
- 36:57Speaker 1: you just bought it. Netflix is like, we are selling
- 36:59Speaker 1: you whole Netflix.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Right? Do you got Netflix?
- 37:04Speaker 1: Okay, we're just trying to keep you rolling over Netflix,
- 37:08Speaker 1: and we just want.
- 37:09Speaker 4: You to watch this for as long as you possibly can.
- 37:12Speaker 1: And so now they do have more of an incentive
- 37:15Speaker 1: to make the production better.
- 37:17Speaker 4: They do have more of.
- 37:18Speaker 1: An incentive to make it like an event, a reason
- 37:20Speaker 1: for you to keep your Netflix.
- 37:22Speaker 2: No, that's exactly it.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's- I'm sorry, Ray Fast, I'll say this. Spotify,
- 37:28Speaker 1: the record label's on Spotify, yeah, but there's always a
- 37:30Speaker 1: million different joints over there, right? Netflix is selling you
- 37:33Speaker 1: this fight. The platform is giving you this fight. They
- 37:37Speaker 1: need this fight to be good.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Yeah, well, and the one thing that streaming can do
- 37:42Speaker 2: that we didn't get from pay-per-view before is there's an
- 37:45Speaker 2: immediacy of reporting of how popular the fight was. which
- 37:49Speaker 2: is part of their branding and their sales, right? Like
- 37:53Speaker 2: we all want to be a part of something big
- 37:55Speaker 2: and it could feel a little bit yucky sometimes, you know,
- 37:59Speaker 2: when a company is selling you, you know, WWE does
- 38:03Speaker 2: this a lot, right? You'll tune in, you'll watch WWE
- 38:05Speaker 2: and it'll say like, this is how many people were watches,
- 38:08Speaker 2: how much money we made. And it's supposed to make
- 38:10Speaker 2: you feel good because you were a part of something big.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Streaming now, because they could just tell you, this is
- 38:16Speaker 2: how many people watched last night. Before, we kind of
- 38:19Speaker 2: had to– there were like a handful of reporters that
- 38:23Speaker 2: knew the people that could give you a sometimes accurate number.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Sometimes accurate number. You didn't know who to trust. But
- 38:30Speaker 2: you could say the same thing now too, right? It's
- 38:32Speaker 2: just a single entity that's reporting how many people are watching.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Can someone check that?
- 38:37Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Like that's added a new element to– I guess boxing reporting,
- 38:43Speaker 2: sports reporting also, is that that used to be kind
- 38:47Speaker 2: of like that was the thing, the crown jewel of
- 38:50Speaker 2: reporting is like, did you get the pay-per-view numbers first?
- 38:53Speaker 2: And that's kind of just been taken away from us.
- 38:56Speaker 1: This is me talking now, not Corey. Boy, sure is interesting.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Now Netflix wants you to have the metrics.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Those of us who work in this business, it's a
- 39:06Speaker 1: notorious thing, the black box of Netflix.
- 39:08Speaker 4: They're like, oh, no, no, no, no. No, no, no.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Let me tell you how many people got out here
- 39:11Speaker 4: in this fight.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:12Speaker 4: Do whatever they want. And that's me talking, not Corey talking.
- 39:16Speaker 2: That's correct.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Now, seamlessly switch topics because I have my Canadian buddy here.
- 39:21Speaker 4: How's your country doing?
- 39:22Speaker 2: Despite the Mexican hat, yeah.
- 39:24Speaker 4: Oh, yes, you do have the Mexican hat. You just
- 39:25Speaker 4: hold it down for all of North America, baby. That's right.
- 39:28Speaker 1: But y'all doing okay up there, man? Like, I know
- 39:31Speaker 1: this team, this team Canada hockey thing. I was up
- 39:35Speaker 1: there at Banff and It was very clear. It was
- 39:38Speaker 1: a very important weekend up there. Like I said, it
- 39:40Speaker 1: was fun being in a place where the white Olympics
- 39:42Speaker 1: are the Olympics. These ain't the other Olympics to them.
- 39:48Speaker 4: These are the Olympics. But it seemed like y'all was
- 39:50Speaker 4: a little bit salty up there about the outcome of
- 39:52Speaker 4: the match.
- 39:52Speaker 1: And then meanwhile, they real happy down here, brother.
- 39:55Speaker 4: Real happy. That's right.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 2: You know how Canada is coping with it. We're saying like, Well,
- 40:00Speaker 2: we would have won that game 95 times out of 100.
- 40:03Speaker 2: It was clear who the better team on the ice was.
- 40:06Speaker 2: That's how the country is coping with it. Also, they
- 40:10Speaker 2: have found their enemy, particularly here in Toronto, because of
- 40:13Speaker 2: course the captain of the Maple Leafs, Austin Matthews.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Oh, he's American.
- 40:17Speaker 2: He went on the visit to the White House and
- 40:20Speaker 2: he was the captain of the team.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Oh, even the Mexican dude?
- 40:24Speaker 1: For those who don't know, hockey has come so far
- 40:27Speaker 1: that One of the best players in the league is
- 40:29Speaker 1: a Mexican dude from Phoenix named Austin.
- 40:31Speaker 2: That's right.
- 40:33Speaker 4: It's a lot going on with that.
- 40:34Speaker 1: So what is so interesting about that is, you know,
- 40:37Speaker 1: you guys, that Trump thing, man, you guys still seem
- 40:40Speaker 1: a little salty with that, and understandably so, right? Like
- 40:43Speaker 1: the whole tariff situation and everything else. And Canada kind
- 40:46Speaker 1: of like, yo, we've been good to y'all. We've been
- 40:48Speaker 1: a great neighbor. I don't understand, like, why you treating
- 40:52Speaker 1: us like this.
- 40:53Speaker 4: It's all there. It all makes sense. Now, of course.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I get the feeling the Canadian hockey team is also
- 41:00Speaker 1: full of a bunch of Trumpers also. But you don't
- 41:03Speaker 1: have to think about your own team, right? You just
- 41:05Speaker 1: got to look at, they're hanging, like, your arch nemesis
- 41:11Speaker 1: is hanging out with your enemy at the State of
- 41:13Speaker 1: the Union. And y'all are all just whooping it up, boy. Canada,
- 41:18Speaker 1: tough week for Canada, man.
- 41:20Speaker 2: It's a good point you just made, by the way, about, like,
- 41:22Speaker 2: the goalie of the Canadian team, Jordan Bennington.
- 41:25Speaker 4: I'm just kidding.
- 41:26Speaker 2: He might not be upset if Canada became.
- 41:28Speaker 4: The 51st state.
- 41:30Speaker 2: I'm just going to say. So there are some people
- 41:34Speaker 2: on that team that probably are like feeling that like
- 41:37Speaker 2: geopolitical tug. But I think there are others that are
- 41:39Speaker 2: just really upset that they lost a hockey game. But
- 41:42Speaker 2: the rest of the country does not feel that way.
- 41:44Speaker 4: Corey, it's so many people down here. I mentioned this.
- 41:47Speaker 1: We sent a clip out on the internet that I'm
- 41:49Speaker 1: sure the internet didn't like because they were thinking about
- 41:51Speaker 1: it in ways that I was not because I don't
- 41:52Speaker 1: really be paying too much attention to a lot of
- 41:54Speaker 1: this stuff, at least not in the ways that I
- 41:55Speaker 1: used to. But I said America's relationship with Team USA
- 41:58Speaker 1: hockey is the healthiest relationship it has in sports.
- 42:00Speaker 4: If they win, everybody's happy.
- 42:02Speaker 1: As long as they don't tear up the hotel when
- 42:03Speaker 1: they lose, nobody's really tripping, right? By then, Cash Patel
- 42:08Speaker 1: had already been in the locker room.
- 42:12Speaker 4: That guy. Um, anyway, but you know, but we already
- 42:15Speaker 4: had that.
- 42:15Speaker 1: We had, we had the Trump thing go up, but
- 42:17Speaker 1: team USA became a divisive group.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 42:22Speaker 1: And they, they, they go to the state of the
- 42:23Speaker 1: union and I'm going to be honest with you. I
- 42:27Speaker 1: just don't feel like anything I would ever want to
- 42:29Speaker 1: go to anyway.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Right.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Like, it's not like, like there's a lot of things
- 42:33Speaker 1: that Trump might invite me to where it's like, damn,
- 42:35Speaker 1: I guess I got to go the state of the union.
- 42:37Speaker 4: Why would I want to go do that?
- 42:38Speaker 2: It was like three and a half hours long. Wasn't it?
- 42:41Speaker 4: You got to stand there the whole time. No, it's
- 42:44Speaker 4: just like this.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I've never once watched the State of the Union and
- 42:47Speaker 1: been like, damn, wouldn't it be cool.
- 42:48Speaker 4: To be there?
- 42:50Speaker 2: Also, when the catering, the catering's McDonald's. It's not even
- 42:54Speaker 2: like you get to hang out in the green room
- 42:56Speaker 2: and be like, well, it was a long time, but
- 42:57Speaker 2: like to check out the spread.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and let me tell you what else is in
- 43:01Speaker 1: that room for Team USA Hockey, and I could be wrong.
- 43:04Speaker 1: That is a room full of people they've never heard of. Like,
- 43:08Speaker 1: I don't feel like there's anybody in that room other
- 43:11Speaker 1: than Trump that they're like, yo, I can't wait to
- 43:13Speaker 1: meet him. Like, somebody's introducing him to J.D. Vance, and
- 43:16Speaker 1: they're like, cool, so what do you do? Where do
- 43:20Speaker 1: you work?
- 43:21Speaker 4: Oh, oh, oh, oh, okay. I knew that. I voted
- 43:26Speaker 4: for you.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Listen, it's– you got to remember too like our prime minister,
- 43:35Speaker 2: like Mark Carney, played hockey at Harvard, like still plays hockey.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Like that's how much Canada cares about hockey, right? To
- 43:44Speaker 2: your point, like this is our Olympics. We also have
- 43:47Speaker 2: the fastest man in the world. That gets– that gets
- 43:51Speaker 2: shoved aside.
- 43:52Speaker 4: Like, did we win gold in curling?
- 43:54Speaker 2: Did we win hockey?
- 43:56Speaker 4: That's all that matters.
- 43:57Speaker 1: So I actually am curious about this and I feel
- 43:59Speaker 1: like I sound so ignorant, but I never asked this
- 44:01Speaker 1: when we worked together, which is like, everybody loves curling
- 44:04Speaker 1: during the Olympics. I'm assuming that like, I don't like,
- 44:06Speaker 1: y'all ain't watching curling in off years.
- 44:09Speaker 4: I don't imagine, but like.
- 44:11Speaker 2: I'm not, but some people are. Curling is still on
- 44:13Speaker 2: national TV a lot. So like, are the best curlers
- 44:18Speaker 2: like famous? Some of them are kind of famous, like
- 44:21Speaker 2: a little bit. They have sponsorship deals. Curling has, much
- 44:30Speaker 2: like boxing, it has its fan base that is definitely
- 44:33Speaker 2: not going to go away. And it's also one of
- 44:36Speaker 2: those sports where once you pass a certain age, when
- 44:39Speaker 2: you get into adulthood and you just want to kind
- 44:42Speaker 2: of find community, but you don't want to tear an ACL,
- 44:45Speaker 2: you can curl. And so people get into curling a
- 44:48Speaker 2: little bit later in life in the way that they
- 44:50Speaker 2: would with golf.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah. So I want to throw something out to you.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Ryan just ran this by me and I hadn't really
- 44:55Speaker 1: thought about it, but this is an interesting discussion, right?
- 44:59Speaker 1: How many MVPs is that boy Connor McDavid one in
- 45:02Speaker 1: the NHL?
- 45:03Speaker 4: Is it like three of them at this point?
- 45:04Speaker 2: I think so.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Right. He's the best player in the NHL. We, we,
- 45:08Speaker 1: I feel like we agree on that one or two.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Right. Hockey is very similar to basketball in the sense that,
- 45:16Speaker 1: Even though it's all these waves of players, it is
- 45:18Speaker 1: very much so a best player wins sort of sport.
- 45:21Speaker 1: They're not too many great hockey players who have not
- 45:24Speaker 1: won a Stanley Cup.
- 45:26Speaker 4: I think that's fair to say. I think if you
- 45:27Speaker 4: were to ask somebody, who's the best?
- 45:30Speaker 1: We have the Charles Barkley, Karl Malone type of discussion there.
- 45:33Speaker 1: In hockey, I don't even know who you pull up
- 45:36Speaker 1: as being that person, except the answer is obvious now.
- 45:39Speaker 1: It's Conor McDavid. Brian raises the question, is he Josh
- 45:43Speaker 1: Allen for the NHL? I don't know if that means
- 45:48Speaker 1: that everybody's just rooting for him and makes excuses when
- 45:50Speaker 1: he doesn't.
- 45:51Speaker 2: No, listen, I think that is an excellent comparison.
- 45:55Speaker 4: It also.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Josh Allen is also Canada's quarterback for the most part too, right?
- 45:59Speaker 4: Oh, that's right.
- 46:00Speaker 2: So Canada has Josh Allen and Connor McDavid. Yeah, people
- 46:04Speaker 2: feel terrible for him, right? And I think that it
- 46:07Speaker 2: hasn't turned into– the discourse that I've seen around McDavid
- 46:12Speaker 2: hasn't quite turn the corner around like, oh, he's a
- 46:14Speaker 2: choke artist or something like that is more people feel
- 46:18Speaker 2: bad for him. It's sympathy because he keeps getting to
- 46:21Speaker 2: Stanley Cup Olympic final and then not winning. But he's
- 46:25Speaker 2: also been the best player on the planet for a
- 46:27Speaker 2: long time. And probably he's the best hockey player that
- 46:30Speaker 2: we've ever seen with our two eyes, like the skill
- 46:32Speaker 2: level of hockey, much like it is in basketball now.
- 46:35Speaker 2: is off the charts. He is the best, him and
- 46:38Speaker 2: Nathan McKinnon are the best hockey players we've ever seen
- 46:41Speaker 2: in our lives. And he hasn't won the championship yet.
- 46:43Speaker 2: And it does, with every passing year, that window starts
- 46:47Speaker 2: to close.
- 46:48Speaker 1: So how much different would this be if he did
- 46:50Speaker 1: not play for Edmonton, but instead he played for the
- 46:54Speaker 1: Maple Leafs? And for those who don't follow hockey that closely,
- 46:57Speaker 1: the Maple Leafs are the Knicks.
- 47:00Speaker 4: Yes, yes, they are the Knicks.
- 47:01Speaker 1: They are in the city that is seen as like
- 47:04Speaker 1: the epicenter of, of the game. It's the biggest hockey town.
- 47:09Speaker 1: It's the biggest hockey town in the world. There's no
- 47:12Speaker 1: way around this. Basketball, New York is the biggest basketball city.
- 47:15Speaker 4: And 1968? 60... Yeah, wait.
- 47:19Speaker 2: What was the last?
- 47:21Speaker 4: I think it's 68. Did you get that right? I
- 47:23Speaker 4: think it's like 68.
- 47:24Speaker 1: It might be 64, but I think it's 60 round number.
- 47:27Speaker 4: 67. No, yeah, we're right there. We're right there.
- 47:30Speaker 1: 67. That's how long it's been since they've won one,
- 47:32Speaker 1: and they find incredible ways to lose it.
- 47:35Speaker 4: Yes, they do.
- 47:36Speaker 2: So your question is, would it be different if he
- 47:38Speaker 2: played on the Leafs? Yes, because Austin Matthews is feeling
- 47:43Speaker 2: that right now. He has been, you know, a top three,
- 47:45Speaker 2: somewhere between top three to top five NHL player for
- 47:48Speaker 2: a while. Hasn't made it to the Stanley Cup, obviously
- 47:51Speaker 2: hasn't won a Stanley Cup. And yeah, you get the
- 47:54Speaker 2: heat that you do for being the excellent player that
- 47:57Speaker 2: could score 60 goals in the regular season and then
- 47:59Speaker 2: not win in the finals. McDavid would be feeling that
- 48:02Speaker 2: heat if he played in Toronto because he plays... in
- 48:05Speaker 2: Edmonton where they are also very hockey rabid. You were
- 48:08Speaker 2: just in Alberta. You felt it there, but they're also
- 48:11Speaker 2: a heck of a lot more forgiving.
- 48:13Speaker 4: Well, they've also won like five of them. That's the
- 48:17Speaker 4: other thing. Since the last time. Exactly, exactly.
- 48:20Speaker 2: They had their dynasties. They're like, you know, we're cool still.
- 48:23Speaker 1: You know, a dynasty powered by cocaine.
- 48:28Speaker 4: Allegedly, allegedly. Is it even a legend?
- 48:32Speaker 2: And then they blamed it on the goalie.
- 48:34Speaker 4: That's not my thing. Blame it on who?
- 48:37Speaker 2: But remember, they blamed it on Grant Fuhrer.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes.
- 48:39Speaker 4: What kind of goalie? What kind of goalie did they
- 48:41Speaker 4: blame it on?
- 48:42Speaker 2: They blamed it on the black goalie.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Allegedly. The one black dude in the league.
- 48:46Speaker 2: Allegedly.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Allegedly blamed it on the one black dude in the league.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Like, I'm trying to think of what, if there was a,
- 48:53Speaker 1: because there was the Pittsburgh cocaine thing in baseball, but
- 48:56Speaker 1: you didn't have a situation where it's like, hey, the
- 48:58Speaker 1: Chicago Bulls won six championships in eight years.
- 49:01Speaker 4: Oh, in cocaine.
- 49:02Speaker 1: No.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Although like in that time period, like, are we naive
- 49:08Speaker 2: enough to think that this wasn't a thing?
- 49:12Speaker 1: It was, it was the eighties and oil was booming
- 49:16Speaker 1: and it's in Edmonton whose team is called the Oilers.
- 49:20Speaker 1: just so you understand what edmonton is talking about wow
- 49:23Speaker 1: oilers and they got the town with the big old rodeo.
- 49:26Speaker 2: That's right and to bring it all the way back
- 49:28Speaker 2: around all of your favorite boxers from the 80s who
- 49:31Speaker 2: did all those great.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Things yes Yes. All of them had the problem.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Some of whom I'm friends with and would openly tell
- 49:39Speaker 2: you that there was a lot of cocaine in that era.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Yo, man, we're in this new wild time now where
- 49:44Speaker 1: it's become okay for people to talk about using cocaine.
- 49:47Speaker 4: And I'm like, when did that happen? That's bananas.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I think two things are happening. Number one, it's
- 49:56Speaker 2: just okay to talk about using cocaine. Number two, I
- 50:00Speaker 2: think you're just expected to go on podcasts and say
- 50:02Speaker 2: crazy stuff because then it'll just make you more money.
- 50:05Speaker 2: And one of the craziest things you can talk about
- 50:07Speaker 2: is how much cocaine you did in the 1980s.
- 50:09Speaker 3: It is.
- 50:10Speaker 4: And now, like I say, the new thing.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Did you watch that? It wasn't Guess Who's Coming to Dinner,
- 50:14Speaker 1: but the Eddie Murphy. It was Eddie Murphy, Jonah Hill,
- 50:19Speaker 1: Laura London, Julia Louis-Dreyfus. They did the whole interracial dating thing.
- 50:24Speaker 1: And that movie at the end got Eddie Murphy going
- 50:26Speaker 1: with the white boys on the bachelor party. And they
- 50:28Speaker 1: started using cocaine in front of him. And somehow Eddie
- 50:31Speaker 1: Murphy was wrong. Thinking that was crazy. They were like, yeah, they.
- 50:36Speaker 4: Were just having a good time. I'm like, yo! When
- 50:39Speaker 4: did this happen?
- 50:43Speaker 2: It's never been my drug of choice.
- 50:45Speaker 4: No, no, no. Not the way to go.
- 50:46Speaker 1: But it's also, look, NHL is always so funny.
- 50:48Speaker 4: Now everybody's kind of like this. But, you know, there's always.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Been the obvious discussion about the inverse relationship between punishment
- 50:54Speaker 1: for drugs and the level of whiteness of your sport, right?
- 50:58Speaker 4: The more whiteness, the less drug enforcement.
- 51:00Speaker 1: But my favorite was where the NHL's drug policy was,
- 51:03Speaker 1: if you tested positive, they just called.
- 51:05Speaker 4: You to see if you was okay. Yeah, are you
- 51:08Speaker 4: doing all right?
- 51:09Speaker 2: Well, apparently now, so like the big thing, like in hockey,
- 51:12Speaker 2: hockey used to have a big drinking culture, right? Like
- 51:15Speaker 2: same with baseball. It would be like you get into
- 51:18Speaker 2: the locker room and people would just be like hockey
- 51:20Speaker 2: and beer were synonymous, still are. But there was a
- 51:23Speaker 2: story that came out last year that apparently that's all changed.
- 51:27Speaker 2: And now most of the NHL players, their thing is
- 51:29Speaker 2: they get off the ice and they are right into
- 51:32Speaker 2: the edibles.
- 51:33Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 51:34Speaker 2: So that's apparently the new hockey thing.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Hey, man, speaking of new and hockey things, have you
- 51:38Speaker 1: watched this heated rivalry show?
- 51:40Speaker 2: I have not watched it yet, but I'm fully in
- 51:42Speaker 2: support of heated rivalry. Go watch heated rivalry.
- 51:44Speaker 4: I haven't watched it. I've only heard of it.
- 51:45Speaker 1: And for those of you who don't know, it's about
- 51:48Speaker 1: hockey players that be having sex with each other.
- 51:50Speaker 2: That's right.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And as the friends of mine who watched it explained
- 51:54Speaker 1: to me, It is very clearly a show that's like
- 51:57Speaker 1: geared toward women. Like they went into these very detailed
- 52:00Speaker 1: explanations of the physical characteristics of the guys play it.
- 52:03Speaker 4: And they're like, no, no, no.
- 52:04Speaker 1: This is like this is for women to watch. But
- 52:08Speaker 1: I have wondered, like in hockey world, how this like
- 52:11Speaker 1: goes over, because on one hand, I'm sure it's the
- 52:13Speaker 1: guys that's like, oh, come on, this isn't how we are.
- 52:16Speaker 4: And then the others, that's like, I mean, it's not
- 52:18Speaker 4: not how we are.
- 52:20Speaker 2: I think that that's pretty much exactly what the reaction is.
- 52:23Speaker 2: It's either people were like, this is great. Or some
- 52:26Speaker 2: people would be like, I'm never going to watch that.
- 52:27Speaker 2: And obviously they're just going to be, you know, hateful people.
- 52:30Speaker 4: Whatever.
- 52:31Speaker 2: The funniest thing is that, like, that is a series
- 52:33Speaker 2: of books. So that author that wrote that, Rachel Reed, and,
- 52:37Speaker 2: you know, shout out to Rachel Reed. She's going through
- 52:38Speaker 2: some health troubles right now. But she just writes gay
- 52:43Speaker 2: hockey erotica, one after another. And it was clear that
- 52:46Speaker 2: this heated rivalry, it's obvious that the two, the protagonists
- 52:50Speaker 2: are supposed to be Crosby and Ovechkin. It's just fanfic.
- 52:53Speaker 4: About Crosby and Ovechkin. Oh, one of those Russian?
- 52:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 52:55Speaker 4: Yes. Oh, no.
- 52:58Speaker 2: But listen, shout out to Canadian television, which you and
- 53:01Speaker 2: I used to make some money off of. I was
- 53:04Speaker 2: about to say a lot of money. That would be untrue. But,
- 53:08Speaker 2: you know, for four million bucks or whatever the budget
- 53:10Speaker 2: of that show was, it wasn't a whole lot. They
- 53:12Speaker 2: made a worldwide hit. So shout out to Canadian television
- 53:17Speaker 2: and to the author, Rachel.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Let me tell you, shows like that are a very
- 53:21Speaker 1: interesting test of one's progressiveness right like i i admit
- 53:27Speaker 1: that um i have theoretical beliefs that are challenged when
- 53:32Speaker 1: you ask me to watch it right like we're not
- 53:35Speaker 1: talking and i'm not talking about this watching some cats
- 53:38Speaker 1: hold hands or like see them be in love or
- 53:40Speaker 1: even kiss like did you ever.
- 53:41Speaker 2: Watch p valley I didn't watch P-Valley, no.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Okay, so P-Valley is a show about a strip club
- 53:47Speaker 1: in like somewhere between Memphis, northern Mississippi, Memphis, you know,
- 53:50Speaker 1: that area. And a significant storyline is it is, I
- 53:56Speaker 1: don't even know how to describe the person that runs
- 53:59Speaker 1: the club, right? But someone who when was born was
- 54:03Speaker 1: definitely said was a man, but who definitely does not
- 54:07Speaker 1: dress or comport themselves as one. I don't remember the
- 54:12Speaker 1: specific classification. But he winds up in a love affair
- 54:16Speaker 1: with a closeted gangster rapper. And that show has sex
- 54:21Speaker 1: scenes with men. And I simply cannot tell if those
- 54:26Speaker 1: are the longest sex scenes in the history of sex
- 54:29Speaker 1: scenes or.
- 54:30Speaker 4: It just feels that way. I can't tell. But it's like, yo,
- 54:36Speaker 4: I feel like we've been here for 15 minutes.
- 54:39Speaker 2: I understand.
- 54:40Speaker 4: It's a test. It's a test. And look, if you're not.
- 54:44Speaker 1: I don't think that there's necessarily a shame in not
- 54:48Speaker 1: feeling comfortable with something, honestly, you've never seen before, right?
- 54:52Speaker 4: Like, it's a whole new thing. I get it.
- 54:54Speaker 1: But I also fully recognize that I have a rhetoric
- 54:59Speaker 1: that I offer that is immediately challenged by me being like,
- 55:03Speaker 1: that dude is on his knees with a condom in
- 55:05Speaker 1: his mouth. And I don't understand why we need to
- 55:08Speaker 1: see that.
- 55:09Speaker 2: We understand what's going on here.
- 55:11Speaker 4: I don't, like, I get the hit. I get the hit. Like,
- 55:13Speaker 4: it's like, oh, whoa, is that me? Is that me?
- 55:15Speaker 2: But you see, Bo, this is all a part of
- 55:17Speaker 2: the streaming conspiracy to keep the length of your viewing up.
- 55:23Speaker 1: I mean, I got to say, that strategy, it could
- 55:26Speaker 1: be intended to keep it going or that could have
- 55:28Speaker 1: unfortunate consequences for their bottom line. That's right.
- 55:32Speaker 4: Depending on who the person is. That's right. Where it's like, okay,
- 55:34Speaker 4: the one thing streaming lets you do is streaming lets
- 55:36Speaker 4: you hit.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Fast forward and see exactly how far this thing has gone.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. What was the TiVo sound you used to
- 55:42Speaker 2: make when you fast forward?
- 55:43Speaker 4: Boop, boop. That's right.
- 55:46Speaker 1: I did not realize that they were making it like
- 55:48Speaker 1: Crosby Ovechkin. Has anybody asked Ovechkin about it?
- 55:52Speaker 2: Most certainly not.
- 55:53Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 55:55Speaker 1: My favorite quote of all time in this broad realm
- 55:59Speaker 1: was when Dennis Rodman was with the Spurs. You may
- 56:02Speaker 1: remember there was a Sports Illustrated cover story of him.
- 56:06Speaker 1: I think Mike Silver wrote it. And it was a
- 56:08Speaker 1: really big deal. And one of the things that he
- 56:10Speaker 1: talked about in this article that came out during the
- 56:12Speaker 1: playoffs is his belief that all men had fantasies, sexual
- 56:18Speaker 1: fantasies about other men. And they asked Akeem Olajuwon about this. Now,
- 56:24Speaker 1: this was Olajuwon after Akeem with an H, right? This
- 56:28Speaker 1: is after he chilled out a little bit in life,
- 56:31Speaker 1: I suppose, but who's to say? It could have been
- 56:32Speaker 1: anything else. Anyway, they came and asked Akeem about it.
- 56:36Speaker 1: And Akeem was like, you know, sometimes you think something
- 56:44Speaker 1: And you think because you think that. Then everybody thinks
- 56:50Speaker 1: the same thing.
- 56:52Speaker 4: He is wrong.
- 57:04Speaker 2: And so this was pre-H Olajuwon, right?
- 57:08Speaker 4: No, this is post-H.
- 57:08Speaker 2: This is post-H, okay.
- 57:10Speaker 4: I am terrified to consider what pre-H.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Was pre-H the one that fought Mad Max in the
- 57:17Speaker 2: locker room, or was that that was H?
- 57:18Speaker 4: I think that was pre, but it's possible.
- 57:21Speaker 1: Pre-H is the one that was just punching people in
- 57:23Speaker 1: the face.
- 57:24Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying, yeah, yeah. In games.
- 57:26Speaker 1: My brother has a friend who played high-level college basketball.
- 57:32Speaker 4: Like, he was a starter on a SEC team.
- 57:35Speaker 1: And he said he used to go to a lot
- 57:37Speaker 1: of games, Rockets games, whatever he was able to get tickets.
- 57:39Speaker 1: He'd be sitting down close, and Olajuwon, referee make a call,
- 57:44Speaker 1: Olajuwon didn't like, this is Aki with an A, right?
- 57:47Speaker 1: Olajuwon stopped, pointed at the ref and go, suck my dick!
- 57:58Speaker 4: And they like, what?
- 57:59Speaker 1: So, to give you the proper contrast, Olajuwon with an H,
- 58:03Speaker 1: I talked to somebody who worked for the Rockets during
- 58:05Speaker 1: that time, and when the refs would make a call
- 58:08Speaker 1: that Olajuwon did not like, this is what would get
- 58:10Speaker 1: them to tech.
- 58:12Speaker 4: God will judge you for that. God's like, what did
- 58:16Speaker 4: you just say to me? God will judge you. What?
- 58:24Speaker 2: What's the worst punishment? Eternal damnation or non-consensual sex? I
- 58:28Speaker 2: don't know.
- 58:28Speaker 4: Put it on.
- 58:33Speaker 1: The scale.
- 58:34Speaker 4: Last question for Corey Hartman.
- 58:36Speaker 1: I haven't asked anybody this in a while, but I
- 58:38Speaker 1: feel like we're on such a roll that you could
- 58:39Speaker 1: give a good answer for this.
- 58:41Speaker 4: And if you don't have one off the top of
- 58:42Speaker 4: your head, it's fine.
- 58:44Speaker 1: What would be the funniest name that could turn up
- 58:48Speaker 1: in the Epstein files?
- 58:50Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 58:52Speaker 2: Funniest name that could turn up in the Epstein files?
- 58:54Speaker 2: That's a good question.
- 58:57Speaker 1: I have a new answer for this that I think
- 58:59Speaker 1: you might agree with. What if Don King turned up
- 59:03Speaker 1: in the Epstein files? These are people of Don King's
- 59:08Speaker 1: political persuasion.
- 59:11Speaker 2: Would this be the time that Don King lost a
- 59:13Speaker 2: court case, if that were the case?
- 59:17Speaker 4: It hasn't happened yet.
- 59:19Speaker 1: I can imagine, though, Don King's reaction being like, whoa.
- 59:22Speaker 4: Wait a minute, wait a minute.
- 59:24Speaker 2: Don King's like 100 years old. He's got Adrian Broner
- 59:27Speaker 2: under a contract right now.
- 59:28Speaker 1: He's still opening the briefcase and locking guys in.
- 59:33Speaker 4: It's still doing it.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Don King walks into one of them parties and when
- 59:37Speaker 1: it's alleged to have gone down, it's going down.
- 59:38Speaker 4: Don King is walking right the fuck out.
- 59:41Speaker 2: See you later. Yeah.
- 59:43Speaker 1: Like, oh, here's another one that could have been funny, though.
- 59:45Speaker 1: I guess the time period doesn't match. Imagine if James
- 59:49Speaker 1: Brown walked into.
- 59:49Speaker 4: One of these parties. Hey, wait a minute. What y'all
- 59:53Speaker 4: over there doing? Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Hey, Mr. Trump.
- 59:59Speaker 3: No, sir.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Can't do that. Everybody gonna go to jail for this.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Ain't send, ain't send Jay Brown up.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Man, Don, I love that Don just can't quit. He
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: will never, he will never give this up.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: Dot, Dot, remember when we did that interview with Dot?
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: That was so much fun.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Yes. You weren't going to tell me about your Manny
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Pacquiao interview.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: Okay. So last thing. Here we go. Here we go.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: So we got Manny Pacquiao on HQ.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Um, And I had done my pre-show ritual before we
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: got on, perhaps a little more fervently than maybe I
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: should have.
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: But anyway, so we there and he's a tough interview, man. Right.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: His English isn't very great. He's a very soft spoken man.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: And somewhere at some point in the interview, it comes
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: up that he got a new single coming out. And
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: this is having this struggling interview. So Dan gets the
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: bright idea, even though this is dangerous because of the
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: way it works with publishing and stuff like that. If
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: somebody sings a song, you got to pay for it.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: And so Dan encourages Pacquiao to sing his new single.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: And I don't know if you guys have ever seen
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Manny Pacquiao on Jimmy Kimmel singing.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: It's a whole bit.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: But I've never known if Manny knows that it's a
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: bit because he is very serious. When he does the singing.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: So Dan has asked Manny Pacquiao to sing this song.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: And I'm looking at him like.
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: No, don't do that.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Don't do that.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: Don't do that.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: Please don't do that. Please don't do that. Manny Pacquiao
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: starts singing that song.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: And I reacted the same way that I did whenever
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: he was singing the song on a Jimmy Kimmel show.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: And uproarious laughter begins to build right here below my sternum.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: But I'm like, oh man, can't do that. Can't do that.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: And so I start like closing my head, closing my head,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: closing my eyes.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: Right. And it keeps, laughter keeps, keeps brimming up. Right.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: It was very similar to the time that I was
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: in a wedding and somebody started singing very badly, but
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: I was the best man.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, what am I supposed to do? Right.
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: So it keeps going. And now I'm like, okay.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I got like my jaw, like the smile is coming.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: I'm stretching out as far as I can. I'm closing
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: my eyes. I'm throwing my hands up.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: I'm trying to bob my head. And I start, I
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: start like stumbling and laughing. And Dan, old Mr. Chaos, right?
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: Dan loving when some shit go off the rails. Not now.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: Dan reaching across and punching me. And I'm like, all right,
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: I'm cool. Like I snap back.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I got back to where I needed to be and
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: we got through it and I apologized to him, but
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: I should not have apologized to Dan.
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: This is your goddamn fault. You're the one that put
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: me in this horrible, uncomfortable position. But I'm like, why
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: are you mad? Of all the times, now it's my fault.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Well, also like, how are you supposed to react? Like,
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: even if someone were a great singer, how are you
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: supposed to react in a satellite interview with, when someone
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: is just singing acapella. What am I, like, am I
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: supposed to, like, how am.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: I supposed to react? Yeah, get the lighter out. Yeah, like,
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: what am I supposed to do? What do you want
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: me to do? I was dying, dying.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: And I'm like, I don't want to laugh in this
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: man's face, but obviously because he got, you know, manos
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: de Pietras, no one has.
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: Been able to, like, be real with him. Yeah.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: No one's ever been real with him about his basketball.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Nobody's able to be real with him about his singing.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: He was a senator at some point.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: Clearly, no one's been able to tell Manny Pacquiao no
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: in like 35 years.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: And they still can't tell him that he can't box anymore.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: Hey, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao. Coming in September.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: We'll have you back to talk about it then.
