- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So in our continuing Quest on you get to decide sounds like a
- 0:35bit of a game show, doesn't it? You get to decide.
- 0:39We are talking today about carrying your story with you.
- 0:43So once you've gone through this whole thing about telling
- 0:46yourself the story, because you made a decision based on the
- 0:48perspective, remember day, when we were talking about
- 0:50perspective and we talked about creating the story.
- 0:53Now, we're going to talk about carrying the story because
- 0:56that's story is so influential to you.
- 0:59I cannot express how thankful Story influences.
- 1:01You it's what you tell yourself. It's it's everything about how
- 1:07you see the world in your stories.
- 1:10Because remember what I said yesterday about how we as human
- 1:13beings live and die on Stories. We Tell them constantly people
- 1:18throughout eons have told stories but the stories we tell
- 1:21ourselves are some of the most critical important stories in
- 1:26the world and anytime we start using the word, Zai am or this
- 1:32is what this means to me. We are getting these really
- 1:35solid identifiers about things and talking about how that is
- 1:40part of our identity soon as something becomes identity
- 1:43driven. Well, there you have it.
- 1:45Now we have to really pay attention because when identity
- 1:47shows up, oh boy, that is a very very, very big deal and you can
- 1:53identify you can see your identity in lots of things that
- 1:56you say about yourself. Like what do you believe about
- 1:58yourself? If you've never sat down and
- 2:00actually, We mapped out this you know idea of who you are on
- 2:05paper, it is fascinating like what do you believe about
- 2:08yourself? What are your strong points?
- 2:10What are your weak points? Where do you see yourself
- 2:12wanting to grow? It is a fascinating exercise and
- 2:16should be definitely done. And if you haven't done that
- 2:19before, do it, sit down and debrief yourself about that
- 2:23story. You tell yourself about you,
- 2:26because what's more important in your head, then you mean we all
- 2:29know that our primary Any questions always come back to
- 2:32ourselves. Like what does this mean to me?
- 2:34And if you can determine what things mean to you, then you can
- 2:37start to really assess how you see things in life.
- 2:41So very, very, very important aspect of this and carrying that
- 2:45story forward with you, anywhere you go.
- 2:48So one of the things that I carried with me, when I was a
- 2:52child, all the time, incidences with my mother and her anxiety.
- 2:57As you guys know, I learned anxiety through my mother.
- 3:00Was definitely a learned behavior and because I had the
- 3:05dichotomy of I could be completely calm when I was with
- 3:07my father and I had absolute certainty with him.
- 3:11And when I was with my mother, I would have uncertainty because I
- 3:14didn't didn't know what was going to be coming at me.
- 3:16So I learned that. And that was part of my story
- 3:20and I felt like when I was by myself, I couldn't trust myself
- 3:24sometimes so I would always gravitate towards wanting to be
- 3:28with my dad. I didn't like to be without him.
- 3:30That was a story that I told myself and everything that I did
- 3:35when I was younger until he passed away.
- 3:36When I was in my mid-20s, I had to run by him.
- 3:42I wanted to talk to him about it.
- 3:44Now on the surface that doesn't seem like it's a big deal.
- 3:47Of course you'd want to talk to your dad about something if you
- 3:49trust your dad and it's not a big deal.
- 3:51But what was a big deal? Was the reason I was doing it
- 3:54and it was based on the fact that the story I was telling
- 3:57myself about myself and other words, I'm Sharing that story
- 4:01with me was I couldn't trust myself, I had to run it by him
- 4:05and if he said no, that had a lot of weight to me.
- 4:09So when he told me not a good idea to be a teacher, not a good
- 4:13idea to be, you know, a writer all those things he was trying
- 4:17to protect me. Great.
- 4:18I understand that that was part of his story and I appreciated
- 4:21that but ultimately that stopped me from doing some of the things
- 4:25that I really wanted to do in my life.
- 4:27I mean, just for a period of time because obviously, I
- 4:30wouldn't Be here with you. If I had actually taken that all
- 4:33on, but that only happened when I learned to change my story
- 4:38about myself. So this is incredibly important.
- 4:42What story are you telling about yourself?
- 4:44And right now out there, there is a large percentage of people
- 4:49who are allowing a story about themselves.
- 4:51That is not empowering to take over, just because things happen
- 4:56to us. Doesn't mean that has to be the
- 4:59way our lives go. We are not victims.
- 5:03We are not able. We are not able to get past
- 5:07that. We are screwed.
- 5:09Yes, we can all believe that we're survivors and we can move
- 5:13past it and we can change our story, and we can make it just
- 5:17like it's part of something if we choose to.
- 5:20And again, this is something you have to choose to.
- 5:23I never, ever, ever let the stories that I had real problems
- 5:28with six miscarriages suck. Let me tell you that.
- 5:31I had six of them. That sucks sucks.
- 5:35Beyond all recognition. Drop me to my knees crying.
- 5:39Having them so bad that it was just a.
- 5:45I can't even explain how horrible it was.
- 5:50I never let it Define me. I never let it change who I was
- 5:54as a person. I never let it become my story.
- 5:58That was driving me. It was just a A story, not the
- 6:01story. So you get to decide you get to
- 6:05decide. So, I will make the point again,
- 6:09go in and really understand the story that you're carrying with
- 6:14you and what it's doing to you every day because if it's not
- 6:17empowering you than it's breaking you and that's a
- 6:19problem. Okay?
- 6:21My friends work on it and I will see you tomorrow for the next
- 6:25part of that. Bye.
