It's stud up. Well. Welcome everybody. Welcome to this week's This in
0:19
a snow Reel to show episode number six hundred ninety six for June a,
0:23
teen to two thousand three. Welcome to this week's Ssion of ass are the
0:29
team years. I am one after the show, I am Jeff Pack joined
0:34
every single week. My cow song, my doctor right, thank doctor Trey.
0:38
What is up? My friend? I think I am like NWA Country
0:44
right now or TNA Country. I'm in Nashville, well, Murphy's Borough,
0:47
but I'm Nashville at Jason so, like, uh, I mean the home
0:53
of the third place wrestling companies. I don't. I don't really know what
0:56
you call this thing, but I'm here. It's music city and we're some
1:00
wrestlings pretty excited. Do you do you still watch Impact on occasion? Like
1:08
I can't. I have a hard time finding it on because I have we
1:12
have switched from Direct TV to Hulu Live, so it's difficult for me to
1:18
track it down. Yes, So I just kind of like find clips and
1:22
videos and YouTube stuff and kind of watch you out there. Plus Josh Alexander's
1:26
out injured, and everybody knows my love for Josh Alexander, So I really
1:29
haven't watched Impact in like two years. It was it was like the wrestling
1:32
promotion I needed cut from the pandemic when the pandemic was going on, Like
1:36
everybody that listened to the show back then, I was watching Impact every single
1:38
week really enjoyed it. Was one of my favorite shows during the pandemic was
1:42
Impact Wrestling. I thought they did some great stuff. Don't follow it all
1:47
that much, but they have a lot of good things going for them right
1:49
now. They're doing the stuff with the New Japan for like the Metaverse,
1:53
they're tour in Australia. They just seem to be doing really well and they're
1:57
pretty much under the radar for company that used to be number two that was
2:02
you know at times I think people forget, but they were similar to like
2:07
what AW is now. Probably AW is more popular from a national perspective and
2:14
then obviously fell off the face of the earth, but from like a very
2:19
solid wrestling promotion. They're doing a good job and I think they need to
2:22
be applauded for the stuff they putting out there each and every week. So
2:25
I forgot they were having a pay per view and I'm on Facebook and they're
2:31
like Alex Shelley New Impact World Chaman, I'm like, I didn't know.
2:35
Alex Shelley was like, like they just put the belt on Steve Macklin and
2:38
then switched it right back on to Alex Shelley is like, all right,
2:40
but I mean for having you know, the former Naomi there, the women's
2:45
divisions always been good. Tag Tea and divisions always been good. You got
2:47
Sammy callahan and Jake Chris back together for me, you know there, Oh
2:52
I four K type pig, so Rich Schwan's a part of it. I
2:55
mean, they got some good stuff going on. It's just you know,
2:59
they just don't have that draw. They don't have that person that's going to
3:01
change the ratings, you know, And well they have to draw. Sam
3:04
mccallahan, Yes, yes, so, but he's not you know, the
3:07
demo guy. True, he gives people to pay money to come to see
3:14
him wrestle, but Jericho gives him to gun watch for free. Yeah.
3:16
Yeah, it's it's uh, they're doing good. They're doing good. I
3:21
agree with you. They don't have that like big name value that I see
3:24
that can bring everybody in. But yeah, they've got some very solid workers.
3:31
People that you are are very entertaining, and I'm happy for him.
3:35
They seem to be in a much better place than they were six years ago,
3:38
and I think they've kind of realized what their niche is at this point,
3:42
that this is probably how they will be as arresting promotion going forward is
3:46
like this very small, middle of the road, mid tier arrested promotion,
3:53
and they're okay with that. Now. The TNA days are behind them.
3:55
The chance of running at w is way behind them. And running third in
4:01
a world where there's a lot of amazing wrest in promotions the United States is
4:05
not a bad thing. So props the Impact Wrestling. An unsolicited conversation to
4:10
kick off this week's This to the podcast Switching Gears, Doctor Trey, You
4:15
know, I mentioned this recently and I figured we should bring it up for
4:18
conversation now. But I believe I don't necessarily know if you believe, but
4:23
I believe that we owe the Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesner feud an apology.
4:28
Night after WrestleMania, everybody was not happy. I mean literally everybody was not
4:32
happy with the way that that raw was ran. People didn't understand the Cody
4:36
feud to begin with, and then they had a match at Backlash and it
4:42
was pretty good match, and then build heading into that match was pretty good.
4:46
And then they had a match at Night of Champions and that match was
4:48
pretty good and it made sense, and the build for that was pretty good.
4:51
It made sense. And here we are in this weird time period where
4:56
they're obviously angling for Cody versus Broad at SummerSlam, and there's some rumors right
5:00
now that that may be a bull Row match, which would be awesome because
5:05
that is in line with Dusty Rhodes. But here we are this time period
5:13
where Cody's getting ready for Dominic and I just took a step back with everything.
5:16
And Cody mentioned in his promo and Raw that you know, maybe Brock
5:20
accepts his challenge or what have you, comes out and accepts it, And
5:25
I'm like, man, this feud is is pretty darn good. I don't
5:29
know if it's knocking on the door a feud of the year at all.
5:32
I think it maybe knocked on the door of at least a candidate for few
5:38
to the year, but ultimately Doctor Trey, I feel like we as wrestling
5:42
fans, oh this feud in apology because they've done a pretty damn good job
5:46
so far. Yeah, I mean, like you said, you know,
5:48
after wrestle Mania, the weird turn out of Nowhere, which then you know
5:53
you read the stories about, well, actually we dropped hints there was some
5:56
foreshadowing of who the Brock was going back to. But yeah, it's actually
6:00
been pretty good, and it's accomplishing something that we talked about heading in the
6:02
wrestle Mate, which was where Cody didn't have them any obstacles overcoming. Now
6:08
in the past, you know, three months, he's had a ton he
6:11
has to had to overcome now, so it's been really good. If they
6:15
do the bull rope match, I mean, not only is it you know,
6:17
Nomasa Dusty, but it kind of fits the characters as well, because
6:20
you got still cowboy Brock and you know, Cody being the grandson of a
6:26
plumber. I mean, it's Americana. It kind of fits all those things
6:30
together. And I mean I'm sure now, I'm like, really, you
6:33
go back and watch a lot of Champions. That was a really good match,
6:38
and it's actually one of Brock's better matches he's had in a while.
6:41
And even uh, you know at Backlash, it was still one of Brock's
6:45
better performances. So and those are the times you can tell Brock's actually really
6:49
into the story as well, is when you feel like he's trying and he's
6:54
also helping elevate somebody else. So to me, that's also shy a sign
6:59
that you know Cody has a Brock's respect, which well, ten years ago,
7:02
there's no way in hell if I ever thought that would have. And
7:04
not only that, but we loved Babyface Brock. We loved everything that he
7:10
was doing, and a heel turn like this soon kind of didn't make any
7:14
sense at all. Peculiar booking for Bobby Lashley Versus Brockett Elimination Chamber in February,
7:21
and come to find out that that was starting to plant the seeds of
7:25
a heel turn. Peculiar build with Omas heading into Wrestlemanian again, that was
7:30
then planting seeds for a heel turn. You know, sometimes we as wrestling
7:35
fans don't give credit to things that we don't snuff out or find out right
7:41
away. And you can make a case that w Creative did stuff that we
7:46
weren't realizing, but afterwards maybe we were too pissed off. About the way
7:50
that that raw after WrestleMania took place to fully understand, like, wait,
7:55
that was really good what w WE did, And I think that's something for
7:59
me as a wrestling fan, and like I feel like I'm at wrestling fan
8:01
anonymous now even though everybody knows me. Let's listen to the podcast, like
8:05
hand up that you know moment in February's Elimination Chamber, that Easter Egg was
8:09
pretty brilliant. The build heading into wrestum Anting with Omas was pretty brilliant because
8:16
what we're seeing right now, like it makes sense and that's our biggest gripe
8:20
right at the time. In February, Marshall like this doesn't make any sense,
8:22
and then here we are in June, it's like ah. And that's
8:26
what wrestlers, wrestling promoters, creative writers, producers in wrestling tell us nowadays,
8:33
is like, don't initially react to things. And that's tough for two
8:35
guys to do a podcast, but don't initially react, Absorb what's going on,
8:41
Enjoy what's going on, enjoy the ride, and just let it take
8:43
you to that point and when it happens, you realize it. And I
8:46
think that's the epiphany in this hall, the Tiffany Epiphany, Tiffany Stratton epiphany,
8:52
doctor training. This entire thing is like, man, w Creative did
8:56
a pretty damn good job, and we were shifting on it pretty hard.
9:01
It's probably the most we've crapped on w programming in twenty twenty three was that
9:05
night after WrestleMania and specifically that Brock Lesser Cody Rhodes feud kickoff. Yeah,
9:11
like, I mean, I still remember, like the Rods that was bad,
9:15
but I remember seeing You're going, yeah, I don't understand why they
9:16
did it. It was kind of weird, but you know, codium Brock,
9:22
I mean, hell, that's it's a good opportunity for Cody, and
9:24
now you've seen him take advantage of that opportunity. And then I think the
9:28
other thing is is over the last nine months and almost a year now,
9:31
because I think it's almost been a year since Triple Agis kind of took over
9:37
WW for the most part, We're so used to kind of seamless transitions from
9:43
storyline is storyline, and this was so knee jerk, you know. It
9:48
was like it was a stop to the Roman race thing and then boom right
9:50
into Brock and we're just kinta of carpet. You you look at like Kevin
9:54
and Sammy and the bloodline, those are like kind of seamlessly transitioned into alternate
10:00
rivalries as well, and you know, those are things that we like.
10:03
And you know, plus out of this whole thing, we get a little
10:07
bit of Cody and Dom, Like I'm kind of on board for this because
10:11
Dom's a great heel and they both have these lineages and legacies, Like I'm
10:13
looking forward to money in the bank right now just because there's a little mini
10:18
feud in between the Brock feud. So it's it's really good across all boards
10:24
of getting cross over, getting guys elevated, getting guys more TV time.
10:28
It's been fantastic. And a couple of weeks we'll look at some of the
10:31
candidates for our twenty twenty three SRT Award show at the halfway point of twenty
10:35
twenty three, which is mind blowing to say out loud, where is this
10:39
feud starting to enter that candidacy, Doctor Trey, Because I think a lot
10:45
of people want to point too, well, you know, look at Sammy
10:46
and the bloodline, or maybe the stuff with the USOS and the Bloodline,
10:50
and I think those are definitely considered feuds. Those are more like storylines.
10:54
It feels like to me, the Cody Brock thing is more of a feud.
10:58
And when you look at the w W perspective, this is possibly top
11:05
three five and definitely right now. Maybe Ray and Dom as a few is
11:09
much better than this one, but this has some potential if this goes all
11:13
the way towards SummerSlam. Yeah, I mean, I'm I probably got it
11:18
in the top four or five for the year at least, you know,
11:22
And a lot of it is where do you position stuff as far as like
11:24
if we're going straight from the beginning of the year to now, like uh,
11:28
Ray and Dom you know kind of started before the year changed over,
11:33
but then uh, you know obviously only through Wrestleman and even a little bit
11:37
lingering over now. Um, I had another one. I mean Sammy in
11:43
the Blood Life. You just look at Sammy saying versus the Bloodline. You
11:46
know, that's obviously gonna be like right up the very top. Um,
11:50
even the Elite versus the you know, the Blackpool Combat Club right now,
11:54
it's got to be up there too, because that's been very compelling television as
11:58
well. So it's up and probably the top five, especially if they go
12:01
away the summer slamming. It's just been I mean seeing Brock get busted open
12:05
a backlash and seeing the broken you know, the supposed broken arbango. I
12:11
mean, this is some intensity in this rivalry that we typically don't get within
12:15
the first two matches of a feud. But so for the Dance was Kennedy
12:18
helped rush the elevation to be appreciated that for Cody Rhodes, this is a
12:24
damn brutal rivalry. And it's not Cody just kind of going out of his
12:28
way to be brutal. It's literally it's in the confines of your storytelling.
12:31
Yeah, and if they do a bull rope match, and I expect it
12:35
to be a great match, this could this could this could be knock on
12:39
the door of a few of the year. Can it pretty hard? Which
12:43
is insane because again mind boggling wise, um, we were not in favor
12:46
of it. So I stand here today, doctor Trey. I apologize to
12:50
w Creative as a wrestling fan for the Cody and Brock feud. My initial
12:54
thoughts on it. We owe it an apology. Are you co signing this
12:58
apology with me? I am with one one caveat do we get the old
13:03
school ball roll match or do we get the four corners bull row match?
13:07
But I always thought the four corners was old school? Am I wrong?
13:11
No? No, Like back back in the Texas days, the bull rope
13:13
matches were like Texas death matches. Basically you had the bull rope and like
13:16
knock them out at all and you basically beat a guy until you pinned them.
13:20
But I think they do the lights. I think they do the lights.
13:24
I'm just wondering if it's if it's Brock, is this it's Brock and
13:26
Cody, Like can they use like a little bit of like creatively away with
13:33
this, because I mean, really it's getting to point now like those four
13:35
corn matches is kind of hard to do something creative for the finish to satisfy
13:41
the audience. And we've we've almost seen everything when it comes up to it,
13:45
and they've done some pretty creative finishes so far with the Kamara lockpin to
13:48
the passing out, Like, yeah, I think they can, I'm hope.
13:54
So like we did one one year Rocket City and as the Heel did
14:00
the baby Face goes around hits all three cords that the heels behind him,
14:03
hitting all three baby Face goes at the fourth quarter as the manager, I
14:07
jumped in the ring and pounced on the turnbuckle so he couldn't touch it,
14:11
and he gave the bad guy time to knock him down. I got away
14:15
from the corner and the bad guy touched the fourth corner and one. So
14:18
there are there are some ways out there to pull it off and actually be
14:20
creative, but I kind of missed the old school like NWA, you know,
14:26
Georgia Championship Wrestling stalages like Brutal Fish's matches where like you have to you
14:31
know, walk around the ring to win. Do you join in on the
14:35
apology for this feud? Hit us up on Twitter? Yeah, you are
14:39
joining in on a doctor Trey. Yeah, I'm in on it. I
14:41
just you know, I want a good match at the end, but yeah,
14:43
I'm signing off on it. Um. It's it's been really good in
14:48
entertending, so I can't I can't complain either. I fully expect it will
14:50
be good. I feel like lessner, I mean obviously more Cody and Triple
14:54
h R students of the Game but Lessner doesn't get a lot of credit for
14:56
it. You know, there's some old school minds there with Cody and Triple
15:00
H, and Lesner has a good creative mind as well. So I think
15:03
this summer Slam stuff is going to be pretty awesome, speaking with things that
15:07
are going on creative right could relatively right now with the last couple of weeks,
15:13
there's been some teasing right now of a potential breakup in the Judgment Day.
15:16
The Judgment Day to me is this is I think a little bit of
15:22
polarizing because the Bloodline is so damn good, But the Judgment Day to me
15:24
is the hottest stable in all professional wrestling right now. No disrespect to the
15:30
elite Blackpool Combat Club the Bloodline. I'm loving what's going on with the Judgment
15:33
Day and it just feels special. And I would say, as a longtime
15:39
wrestling fan that if it looked like they were all going to remain together,
15:43
that maybe a baby face turn could be coming, which would be very difficult
15:46
because of Dom's healheat. But nonetheless, when you look at the individuals right
15:50
now, Damian Priests coming out of Backlash, he seems to be ascending.
15:56
This seems like, where were you when you saw the beginning of the rise
16:00
that was Damien Priests And I feel like that is going on right now.
16:03
He's every Money in the Bank, which we'll talk about here momentarily as well,
16:07
but he seems to be ascending. Ria Ripley is getting cheered and is
16:11
super over, maybe one of the highest cheered wrestlers in the entire company right
16:17
now, of like Kevin Owen, Sammy Cody Rode, Seth Rollins, and
16:19
Ria Ripley, Like people are going nuts and doing mommy chants. Dominic Mysteria
16:25
is one of the biggest heat magnets in all of wrestling right now, and
16:27
it's super over as that heel. People love to boo him. He's doing
16:33
amazing in his role. Finn Balor has a Money in the Bank World Heavyweight
16:37
title match now against Seth Freakin Rollins in a couple of weeks, and he
16:40
had some interesting interactions with Damien Priest lay. Plus he was seen talking to
16:44
PROTEJJD McDonough on this past week's edition of Raw. So to me, there's
16:49
maybe some tensions between Damian and Finn, and could this be the beginning cracks
16:56
of a breakup for Judgment Day as a group, or could we see that
17:02
maybe the group is kicking out Damian Priest in the future to help with that
17:07
ascension that seems to be organically taking place right now? Where do you stand
17:11
on this creative booking right now with the Judgment Day, Doctor Trey? Is
17:14
it time to break up the Judgment Day? Do we see a Damien Priests
17:19
kick out and exit, maybe he gets replaced with the JD mcdonnah or do
17:23
you just keep the good times rolling and let them continue to do their thing
17:26
each and every week? Un raw, I mean personally, I'm you know,
17:30
I'm a big stable guy, and you know, to me, bringing
17:34
mcdonnah in and kind of still letting them do their thing right now would be
17:37
good. The biggest thing if you go kick somebody out is you're helping to
17:41
elevate them and make them a bigger star. And it's hard. Like I
17:45
think when you look up paper, you're like, Okay, Rie is a
17:47
big star. Don's becoming a big star. Damien's position to be a big
17:52
star worse fit? Like do we think Finns any better now than he was
17:57
in NXT? Do we think Finns any higher up the food Charee because Finn
18:02
takes most of the losses when Judgment Day loses, and although he does have
18:07
a world title match, and they did a good job of referencing the first
18:11
you know, universal title match to kind of give him some credibility. Like
18:15
them kicking Damien out and Damien to few with Finn, does that really do
18:21
anything for Damien at that point? So I think you got it, Like
18:23
they haven't had that big singles title. When for the men's side of it,
18:29
to help elevate one of the guys that they kick kick him out,
18:33
there's no chase other than revenge. They've done it with Ria, But I
18:37
think in w'siris, the star of the group and the guys of their support
18:41
her, So I would just kind of help. I would kind of keep
18:45
it as as is, maybe at him mcdonnaugh and then if somebody else catches
18:49
fire that maybe you end up kicking out to help them catch fires a baby
18:53
face and that's the way you go. Yeah, it's interesting right now.
18:56
It's just it feels like that something is bubbling up with the Judgment Day.
19:00
I feel like the stock is rising for the entire group. I feel like
19:03
as individuals, their stock is rising as well, and it I just get
19:07
good vibes watching creatively what's going on with the Judgment Day right now. I
19:12
feel like they're part of the mussy television that you see on w programming each
19:15
week. Love what I'm seeing from Raw and I like the current storylines that
19:19
are involved with It's it's great to see and again creatively for something that started
19:26
out post restimating with edge and had a lot of different stumbling blocks along the
19:32
way. I mean, I think there was one point they were off television
19:33
for a little bit and I think Finn and Damian priests did like a main
19:38
event match a tag team, and it was just like this big question mark
19:42
of what was going on. And then Triple H gets evolved and you just
19:45
see the group move forward very proactively and become over as heels and and that's
19:53
part of my concern is a long time wrestling fan, I watched them.
19:57
There's there's some d xish to them, their anti authority, anti establishment,
20:03
and as time goes on their anti heroes, fans genuinely start to adapt to
20:08
that. And I would have a tough time seeing that right now with Dom
20:11
and the group, but I think fans would still share on the group,
20:15
but boo Dom because they enjoy doing that. It's it just seems like that
20:18
this current time frame that we're seeing, I just feel like that there's something
20:23
special going on with the judgment day, and I think creatively it's a very
20:27
important time for them and their future as a group moving forward. Yeah,
20:33
you're absolutely right, Like then there's a lot of ways. I mean Dom's
20:37
I don't know. I think you could eventually pull the trigger on making it.
20:42
Like if they all turned on Dom and threw doma. I think the
20:45
crowd would pop her that too, because at first they'd be like, oh
20:48
right, Don's getting beat up. But as long as the rest of groups
20:49
stays heal, Like if if Rhya decides, they just beat up Dom because
20:53
she's now in love with JD mcgunna, you know, or something like that.
20:59
But it gives you options, and that's one of the great things about
21:00
stables is that you can kind of go, hey, who do we think
21:03
catch fire if we move somebody? So, I mean that's what the Horsemen
21:07
did for years. The nWo did that for years. You know, DX
21:11
didn't really kick guys out, but they were so edgy as a heel that
21:17
you can flit back and look at the nation when they kicked Farruca and Rock
21:19
went on top. So there's there's all gives you options across the board to
21:25
kind of play with and figure out the what chess pieces you want to move
21:27
around the board to get the maximum results. Speaking about the ascension of Damian
21:32
Priest, it appears as it stands right now, the Men's Money in Bank
21:36
ladder match is cemented, and when you look at the participants in that Men's
21:41
Money in Bank match, there are no former world champions and that as people
21:45
pretty excited and I am here for it. Those participants include Santos Escobar,
21:49
Butch, Damian Priests, La Night, Ricochet, and Chinsky Nakamura. It
21:55
certainly feels to me that's a lot of, if not all, Triple H
21:57
guys are getting showcased in this match. So I saw this on Twitter recently,
22:02
Doctor Trey, and it was pointing out and I was like, Wow,
22:03
that's really really cool, because we're gonna have a fresh new name involved
22:10
in some sort of world championship title picture, whether it be the Universal Title
22:12
or Undisputed University Tite or whatever they call on that belt. Now that Roman
22:15
has the World Everyweight Championship, or if for some ungodly known reason they decide
22:21
that the money brank briefcase winners got to cash in on an XT champion,
22:26
which is right now Carmelo Hayes. No disrespect to Carmelo, but I feel
22:29
like, if you're going to do this, let up be what we're seeing
22:30
on Ron SmackDown right now, since especially NXT kind of went back more towards
22:36
the developmental brand than a legit footed brand like we thought it was back in
22:40
twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen. So with that said, fresh competitors, fresh
22:45
new competitors, Doctor Trey, I am here for it. What are your
22:48
thoughts about this? Like, I love that this field is taking place,
22:52
and it has a lot of people excited for the Men's Money to Break match,
22:57
more excitement that we've seen in some time. Yeah, I'm excited about
23:02
it. Just once again, it's also about elevating, you know, talent
23:06
up the ladder so to speaks and you know, as we've seen over the
23:10
last few months, we see people move up and then you see like the
23:12
Baron Corbyn's, the Dana Brooks as peopill drop down to kind of help out
23:15
at NXT, so it gives you know, a fresh coat of paint for
23:19
some of these guys. And when you're looking at at the guys in this
23:23
money in the Bank match, you're like, man, like, any one
23:26
of these guys could win, but they would also have to work on building
23:30
them up to not just win, but actually be credible in the way we
23:33
don't want to jack swigger anybody, so to speak. So, um,
23:37
I don't know, but you like, I feel like La nice the odds
23:40
on Favorite though, but I mean out of everybody else in there, I
23:41
can make a case for just about anybody hid in the match, but just
23:45
once again, like form my perspective of always like I always like when the
23:48
eel win because they can be sneaky when they cash in. Like right now,
23:51
my odds on Favorite La Night, Well, you know, I think
23:56
I think it's Damien Priest right now, but I couldn't make a case so
23:59
I can make it for Damian Priest, l and I and shins K.
24:03
I love Santos Butch and Ricochet as well, but I think to me those
24:07
three are the favorites. Yeah. I once again, I always kind of
24:11
look at like who looks like a world champion in addition to being just a
24:17
great wrestler. But who looks at the park And as much as we love
24:21
Shinsk, can you put Shinsky? You know on well used to be Regions
24:25
and Kelly. I don't know who the hell does the morning shows anymore,
24:27
but you know we you know it was it's Kelly and the guy for American
24:34
Idol. Last it was I believe it's her husband. Now it's what I'm
24:37
seeing. Mark. Oh, Kelly and Mark. That's the name of the
24:41
show. That's all okay, So Kelly and Mark, that's it sounds like
24:47
that, It sounds like it just it sounds like a gospel group in the
24:49
nineteen seventy two. Um. But yeah, it's really you know, if
24:53
Damian Priest wins, Damian Priest could actually be a great promo guy. We've
24:56
seen that elevation with like I don't know, Damian Priests in some ways reminds
25:02
me like a blend of Dwayne, Like he's got an it factored to him
25:08
that you just can't teach and then La Night of course to get maybe one
25:12
of the best talkers in the business right now. So like either one of
25:17
those guys can carry a title belt, look good at a suit and tie
25:19
and go out there and parade around in front of people to get them to
25:22
come by into watching the wrestling show. So I mean, yeah, I
25:26
would say Elie for me, Elie Night one priest too, And you're probably
25:29
in reverse. So question in regards to this match, right, you and
25:33
I two three weeks ago, you know, would would give aw grief for
25:41
the four Pillars match that they did, and that was pushing four new stars
25:45
that we knew basically nothing about five years ago. Here we are now and
25:49
de wie Uee is doing a similar approach where they're pushing six stars now.
25:53
Granted we everybody kind of knew who some of these folks were. Damian Priests
25:59
punish him, our teams, La Night and Schinsk. Ricochet was out there
26:03
as well. Santos Escobar had a run butch had a run over in the
26:07
UK, Like these were names that were known, but on a national level
26:11
we're not well known. Why are we more excited about this match from WWE
26:18
than we were for the a w four Pillars match for the World Championship.
26:23
I think for me, it's the style of the match, Like this money
26:29
the bank always kind of also has an element of luck involved into it.
26:33
So if you lose, if you don't win money in the bank, it
26:36
doesn't hurt your career. Where the four pillars match a I was worried that
26:41
whoever took the pinfall was going to take a hit. Secondly, at that
26:48
point, I didn't see the upside because in a way, if MJF one,
26:51
he was beating three of his youngest rivals, and you know, what
26:55
do you do coming out of that, and really they just almost I don't
26:59
want to say they ignored them match, is just that the all four guys
27:00
went in different directions with money of the bank. Like I said, it's
27:06
an element of luck. It's not like one guy who's going to Japan one
27:10
of their guys to win, so nobody gets hurt and the loss and I
27:11
think that's one reason. Two, we've seen how it's worked in the past
27:17
to help elevate guys up. Let the see Him Punks, that Daniel Bryan,
27:19
the Jeff Hardy's, you know, the edge golf stickler. We've seen
27:23
it help guys where in that situation. The only comparison I had to was
27:30
the WrestleMania that we had to had a Big Show Rock? Was it Mankind
27:33
and Stonehold usual about WrestleMania, Yeah, the four Corners was Triple H Rock
27:41
mc foley, Big Show. Yeah, so that was my only comparison,
27:45
And I mean, how when he came out of that match, Yeah,
27:48
it kind of pushed Big Show down a little bit, but those guys are
27:52
also on a different level. I like that was also part of the bill,
27:55
was your Buildings. That was a main event match, and really three
27:57
of the guys in that match have not been main event players. So I
28:02
don't know if Money in the Bank is the main of his name. Paper
28:06
is named after it, but I don't know if you because they're the Money
28:07
in the Bank match the main event of Money in the Bank when you have
28:12
other stuff going on around it, like Cody and Brock and Seth and Fin
28:17
and whatever we do with Roman and the Bloodline and stuff like that, Like,
28:19
I don't know what Mighty the Bank might be the fifth best match on
28:25
Money in the Bank. So I was giving thought to my own question here
28:30
right, like why are we more excited about this one? And I think
28:32
anybody who was a true aw homer would be like, let's because you guys
28:34
always saw it with DVD WW and you hate AW, which is completely not
28:40
true at all. Love AW as well, But when you look at the
28:45
AW Four Pillars match, we felt like, creatively, some of those guys
28:48
did not deserve to be in that match. When you look at money in
28:52
the bank, none of those guys are main eventures right now. But the
28:57
belief that one of them will be a main event or coming out of that
29:00
match has us as wresting fans excited, And I think that's probably the different
29:04
there is, Like the Four Pillars was forced on us, This was organically
29:11
produced, and once the realization came in, like hey, these are people
29:15
that are upper mid carters maybe mid carter or upper mid carters, and one
29:18
of them will come out of this with a potential chance to become a world
29:21
champion, that has as excited. And these are six people that we genuinely
29:25
like and want to see build rather than being pushed down our throats. Four
29:30
pillars that maybe the fans just cannot relate to. Overall, if Sammy or
29:37
Jungle Boy or Darby had won that match, would we feel different about it
29:41
because wouldn't that person be a main eventer? I feel like if Sammy won
29:45
the match. I would be happy Darby won the match. I'd be happy
29:49
jungle Boy would be the one that I wasn't. So if Sammy or Darby
29:55
won, would we feel differently about that match? Like you and I went
29:57
to that match, it's fully believing that it was MJF. Nobody else really
30:00
had shot Ye if Sammy or Darby had won the match and we were in
30:06
that match was actually it was good match, very good And if Dammy Darby
30:08
had won, like we'd probably be like, man, that was actually a
30:11
fantastic match, and put it would now Sammy's a main inventor. No MJF
30:15
has to chase Sammy down to get his belt back, maybe we'd feel different
30:18
about it. But I think the way it was put together and the way
30:22
it was booked leading into it, where you didn't really have that belief that
30:27
three of the guys in that match deserve to be in the main event match.
30:30
That's where the hold up was. But you know, Sammy has shocked
30:34
the world or Darby has shocked the world. That won the match, would
30:37
like dear God, that was great and aw surprised us so so looking more
30:41
than anything else, Like with that match, right, MJF made sense why
30:45
it was there. Darby felt like a main event player. The thing with
30:48
Sammy during the beginning that feud felt like he was out of place, but
30:52
that feud actually helped to build him up. And like I've said recently,
30:56
like you can make a case and I think he's a baby face again,
31:00
jungle Boy was the one that never like made any movement. Like for me,
31:04
I think jungle Boy comes off more helish than anything and more unlikable coming
31:11
out of it because his characters kind of boring, his personality is kind of
31:15
boring. I feel like this is creatively pushing him to become a heel.
31:19
I feel like that is ultimately what pays off. Just you know, we're
31:23
recording this during Dynamites, so maybe he's turned heal tonight for all I know
31:26
by the time this is downloaded. But that's the expectation for me, is
31:30
that he is creatively being pushed heal organically we pushed Heal with And that's how
31:37
it felt about that match, where by the end of it, like three
31:40
people felt like they belonged, one didn't, Mund the bank all six of
31:45
these people don't feel like they belong in the world. Title picture presently,
31:48
but you know, some of them, most of them, all of them.
31:52
Rustling fans could be like, I would love to see Santo Seskabar in
31:56
a main event, few and Butching a main event, few, Damian prec
31:57
in a main event, feud, et cetera. But now once you see
32:00
it out there and there's that like, Okay, wow, who's going to
32:04
get that choice by creative to be in that next echelon, that's pretty exciting
32:08
And that was great matches was that this match was supposed to help push the
32:19
next echelon up. Yeah. Absolutely, That's why I was. You know,
32:22
when you reference from the past title winners, I mean, of course
32:24
you had your your brock Lesner at Anomaliesy they haven't looked seth Rawlins was money
32:30
in the bank and cashed in and it was one of the hudd of the
32:32
century. You know. Yeah, there's been a couple other guys that have
32:35
won and you're like, damn that happened, But I mean, hell,
32:37
Rob van dam getting the shot against John Cena one of the most memorable matches
32:43
in WW history. You know, Brian danil Due Daniel, Brian cashing In
32:46
and Jackson Judd super Dolph's sicular cashing in. No, you said, Jack
32:50
Swiger, that made sense too, Yeah, but I mean his run was
32:53
pretty bad. But I mean, yeah, we've had Kane win and some
32:57
other guys win, but really that was always the shot for guys to get
33:01
elevated into main events status and prove or whether or not they get belong So
33:06
I think that's why we also make cut some slack, you know, just
33:12
because of the history of this match into what it's done as well. To
33:15
me, the purpose of the money Bank briefcase match, whether it be for
33:17
men or women, is to push a new star and put them up at
33:22
that echelon and give them an opportunity and run with a championship. And that's
33:25
always been very exciting, whether it be Cmpunk, whether it be Dolf Sickler,
33:30
whether it be the Miz. Like, that's the purpose of this live
33:34
Morgan Carmela, Like, you want to see somebody that you least expect to
33:37
become a world champion have that opportunity, and it's been kind of lost a
33:42
little bit here and there over the years, but now you're stilling with this
33:44
match, like six fresh faces never been in a World championship feud never been
33:49
a world champion. I know people are probably screaming, well, what about
33:52
Shin's case runs NXC champion. I get it, but this is we were
33:55
talking about. They don't acknowledge that this World championship. So I'm excited about
34:00
it and I love to see that there are no formal world champions in that
34:04
match. I'm looking forward in the Monday Bank in just a couple of weeks.
34:07
And then, lastly, speaking of excitement, Doctor Trey, it hit
34:10
me this past Saturday. I was like, Wow, this is the last
34:14
Saturday Night where there is no professional wrestling on television for maybe the rest of
34:17
my life. This upcoming Saturday AW Saturdaynight Collision TNT the return of cmpunk.
34:25
He'll be teaming with FTR to take on Bullet Club Gold and Samoa Jail.
34:30
That's j White and Juice Robinson. I simply ask you, are you excited
34:35
for AW Saturday Night Collision? Are you excited for another night out of your
34:38
week to sit down and watch professional wrestling? Well, first of all,
34:42
I'm not gonna be able to watch it because I am in the business and
34:45
so I have a show I have to do so and it's also my anniversary.
34:49
So there really the worst night they could have picked. But I'm intrigued.
34:59
They have my mouth watering a little bit to see what they do.
35:01
I don't know if I'm excited, but I'm I'm oh god, what's the
35:06
most overused phrase that we use here, I'm cautiously optimistic about what this collision
35:12
brings to us because it is, Look, we may get on this guy's
35:15
case and we have this weird love hate relationship with but like see him.
35:19
Punk's good for wrestling. He always creates something that makes people talk. So
35:23
and the more eyes that you get coming to AW is better for everybody involved.
35:29
So and then you know, getting FDR in the main event. Jeff's
35:34
excited, is ja White's in the main event? I mean, all these
35:36
things are coming together for this first show, and so it's kind of a
35:39
mini perfect storm for anyw just with this match alone. So yeah, I'm
35:45
I don't know if I'm saying exciting. I'm not giddy, you know,
35:47
but uh, I'm feeling pretty good. Jeff feeling pretty good. Yeah,
35:52
I'm gonna be honest, I wouldn't say I'm I'm I'm not excited. I
35:57
think there's an oversaturation Professional Round right now on the market. Docs Tray,
36:01
I don't like knowing that on Saturday Night there's going to be a show and
36:07
it's gonna be a DVR show basically for a lot of folks, including myself.
36:10
And while I love the sport that is professional wrestling, it's another night
36:15
of the week where another show is on, and um, you know there's
36:20
a possibility that one out of every four shows is really good. I just
36:25
I just think that there's so much oversaturation Mondays with Raw, Tuesdays with NXT,
36:30
Wednesdays with Dynamite, Thursday with if you watch it Impact Wrestling or New
36:35
Japan, Fridays with SmackDown and Rampage, and now Saturday with Collision, and
36:39
then if you watch Sundays Superstar Sundays in A and E, there's in depth
36:45
of wrestling stuff going on. Dutch Tray, I don't. I don't.
36:52
I don't think we need this added layer to it. I gotta be honest
36:53
with you. As a wrestling fan, if I was just an AW fan,
36:58
this makes total sense. But as a've sen fan that watches everything,
37:00
I think this is too much. Well, it's a little bit like we've
37:04
talked about in the past. Is it's a little bit of the all you
37:07
can eat buffet right now era pro wrestling, where it just kind of depends
37:09
what your flavor of choice is, like what you're going to watch, and
37:15
you know, some of us are conditioned to always watch Raw and Monday nights,
37:17
and you know, watching anything else is kind of like, okay,
37:21
where's the priority list? And but for the for the show itself or for
37:24
fans of AW like, I think it's great because now they get an extra
37:29
couple of hours of television time, they can do some storytelling, elevate some
37:32
people that haven't been on TV. I mean, we're probably getting Mirror back
37:36
and I love missa Mirro, you know on drawd as me back at some
37:38
point, like Collision might be a little bit more WWE than what you know
37:45
Dynamite is. And for those fans who have been conditioned for an eight or
37:47
for a WW product, hey, this might be the right show for them
37:51
as well. Yeah. I mean again, let me split this up.
37:53
As a wrestling fan that watches a lot of wrestling, this is it's this
37:59
is a little bit of a gott to be totally honest. As an ae
38:02
W fan, this makes a ton of sense. They needed to do this
38:07
with the way that the roster was. If I was just a standalone aw
38:09
fan, they watched Dynamite and Rampage and now added a collision. It's like,
38:15
Okay, this is great because now, like doctor Trey said Miro Andreid
38:17
Alida Low thunder Rose, Scorpio, Sky, Samoa, Joe, Cmpunk,
38:22
whoever Powerhouse ops Like, now they're getting an opportunity to shine more than the
38:28
three hour window that they have with two hours of Dynamite in the one hour
38:31
of Rampage, which has kind of been a throwaway show. So I look
38:35
at it in two different ways. Wrestling fan who does a wrestling podcast,
38:38
It's like, oh my god, another two hours. Aw fan love it
38:43
so split personality. I feel like I'm two faced from Batman. Doctor Trey,
38:47
Well, his last name was Harvey Dent and that's actually the last name
38:50
is my birth name. So they go, it's just all full circle at
38:53
the end of the day. Somehow we always get back to one another.
38:55
Unfortunately, there are no comic book book character that are PG that were had
39:00
the last name pack So or at least pack in it. That's for other
39:05
adult type Marvel comments, I guess so, no, there there's the great
39:09
Gregory Peck. So you know, great Pat. That's true. He great
39:13
actor. And didn't the writer of Moby Dick. Wasn't that Peck? I
39:19
don't know. Now we're talking about literature, which is that's for literature casts
39:22
that we do. Dude, I live in Jeff, I live in Alabama.
39:24
You know I can't read true? That is true. He actually the
39:27
book is upside down and you gotta turn at this point, doctor Trey,
39:30
and there we go, my friend. So there you go, Saturday Collision.
39:34
We will talk about that on next week's show. And speaking of the
39:37
upcoming schedule, next week June twenty second, we will preview and predict AW
39:42
and New Japan Pro Wrestlings Prevents Presents Fourbidendoor twenty twenty three. Two weeks from
39:47
now, we will preview and predictivity Were Mine in the Bank two thousand and
39:50
twenty three, and we'll look at the two thy twenty three SRTU Award Show
39:52
candidates at the halfway point of the year. And then three weeks from now
39:57
July the sixth, we recap and review with aw New Japan Forben and Door
40:01
and ww Money in the Bank twenty twenty three. Now you may be asking
40:05
yourself, wait, why are they recapping Foreben and Door two weeks after it
40:08
airs? Yours truly is getting married. That's me on the week of that
40:15
June twenty ninth, So we're going to be in a pre recording mode.
40:19
We will do the best we can to bring you normal programming here for SRTU,
40:23
but it just won't be timely enough where we could sit down and preview
40:27
and predict Forben and Door and Money the Bank for you. So sometimes life
40:30
gets in the way. This is obviously something that I think all married men
40:35
can relate to. I just cannot get away and go, hey, I'm
40:37
going to record a podcast the week that we're married. That's just not going
40:43
to work. So bear with me, folks, and we'll get it all
40:45
with you here in these next couple of weeks, as we bring you regular
40:51
SRTU programming, then before you know it, Doctor Trey, it'll be our
40:52
seven hundred, seven hundredth episode. Isn't that mind boggling? We're in the
40:59
seven hundred club almost, Yeah, this is this is six ninety six.
41:04
What's the seven hundred club? There's the old religious show with Pat Robertson back
41:08
in the day called the seven hundred Club. Was it seven hundred or eight
41:10
hundred? Yeah, that was seven hundred Club. Yeah. Okay, well
41:14
there you go. So for the next hundred episodes, we just get religious.
41:19
Uh, we just go straight into a seven mode from a way back
41:22
in the idea was it wasn't that the character's name that the aply anti Hundertaker
41:27
Dustin Rhodes character. No, no, no, Uh, Kevin Thorne's character,
41:31
Mordecai Mordecaiven seven was Dustin Rhodes. And yeah, so Mordica, we
41:37
go straight. Mordecai, we go straight. Uh, Ministry of Darkness.
41:42
That's all we do is just recap any religious gimmick and wrestling history for one
41:45
hundred shows. Yeah, top one hundred religious characters. So I guess we'll
41:51
have to try to figure that out. How we're going to do that.
41:53
Um, all right, with that said, let's get a couple of plugs
41:57
and sponsored out the way. If you down, we'll show every Thursday or
41:59
Friday at Real Guy Radio dot com, Russell chatting, add on Twitter,
42:01
and the store, Real to Show, iTunes feed, don't fork to rate,
42:05
review, and subscribe to help us comment charts on iTunes. You can
42:07
follow us individually on Twitter for myself at SRTU Jeff and for doctor Trey Franklin
42:12
at the Doctor Trey. And of course don't forget to follow the show on
