- 0:01Speaker 1: All right, folks, welcome back to Roughfresh. This is Jake
- 0:04Speaker 1: Koefer and we have a great episode here from a
- 0:07Speaker 1: handful of folks across the Midwest. We have Phil Lincoln,
- 0:10Speaker 1: Kevin Visson, Ben Mosley, and Jared Larson giving their most
- 0:14Speaker 1: recent RUT report for one of the most exciting weeks
- 0:17Speaker 1: of the year. And now we're approaching potentially a little
- 0:21Speaker 1: bit harder, but still a great amount of opportunity here
- 0:24Speaker 1: coming up, and we're going to talk about some things
- 0:26Speaker 1: to consider. You still have that tag in your pocket,
- 0:28Speaker 1: you feel like you're struggling. Here's some words of encouragement
- 0:32Speaker 1: and some strategy that can help you over the next
- 0:35Speaker 1: seven days. I hope you guys enjoy it. As you know.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Rofresh is brought to you by land dot com, the
- 0:40Speaker 1: leading online real estate marketplace to find your perfect rural, recreational, agricultural,
- 0:45Speaker 1: or hunting properties here in the US. Let's go in
- 0:48Speaker 1: and get things started here with Phil Lincoln in Indiana.
- 0:57Speaker 1: All right, first up on the line, we have Phil Lincoln,
- 1:00Speaker 1: who recently tagged a buck in Indiana. Phil, how does
- 1:04Speaker 1: it feel? You know, it's always bittersweet, right, you know,
- 1:10Speaker 1: It's like it takes the pressure off. You know, the
- 1:13Speaker 1: hard work pays off. But at the same time, you know,
- 1:15Speaker 1: done in Indiana. Fortunately have a piece of property right
- 1:18Speaker 1: across the border in Illinois and have landowner tags, so
- 1:21Speaker 1: I just kind of get to focus on Illinois, which yeah, yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 1: it's it's a good thing. I saw your post on
- 1:29Speaker 1: I saw your post on Facebook, and I feel everyone
- 1:32Speaker 1: has weird superstitions this time of year, because it feels like,
- 1:35Speaker 1: quite frankly, a little bit of luck is needed, whether
- 1:38Speaker 1: we all want to admit it or not, and you
- 1:40Speaker 1: bust it out your lucky half. How much do you
- 1:42Speaker 1: think that had to play into your success here? Well,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, who knows. I think, you know, with everything,
- 1:50Speaker 1: we make our own luck. You know, I was in
- 1:53Speaker 1: a based on the time of the year, I was
- 1:55Speaker 1: in a rut funnel, and you know I shot a
- 1:58Speaker 1: buck that I may or I mean, I have on camera.
- 2:01Speaker 2: So you know, the one thing about a rut funnel.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Is and especially if you're connected to a big chunk
- 2:06Speaker 1: of woods, you know, you got deer moving you you know,
- 2:09Speaker 1: you may see the bucks that you have on camera
- 2:10Speaker 1: and you may see totally different ones, so you know,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and so uh, this breakdown that funnel is for someone
- 2:17Speaker 1: to understand it. Did you have where was your sat blowing?
- 2:21Speaker 1: Do you think there was bedding nearby? Kind of just
- 2:23Speaker 1: paint that picture if you can, so people can get
- 2:25Speaker 1: understanding what worked for you. So so I think there's
- 2:32Speaker 1: so I'm in a in a in a river bottom
- 2:34Speaker 1: and it's a it's a section of the river that
- 2:36Speaker 1: that chokes down pretty tight, right, So you got water
- 2:39Speaker 1: that's got some real steep banks that they're clearly not
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know, they're not crossing the creek in that point.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And then I'm on a Depending on which direction the
- 2:48Speaker 1: wind's blown, whether it's got north and south in it,
- 2:52Speaker 1: dictates which side of it I'm sitting on the anything
- 2:58Speaker 1: with south in it, I'm sitting on the north side
- 3:03Speaker 1: on a flat that's covered with oaks. And the only
- 3:07Speaker 1: downside to that is if they're eating a lot of acorns,
- 3:09Speaker 1: they can they can get behind you. The downside to
- 3:13Speaker 1: that is is I almost can't shoot all the way
- 3:16Speaker 1: across the pinch point. If the wind is in the
- 3:20Speaker 1: opposite direction and I'm on the other side close to
- 3:23Speaker 1: you know, basically sitting close to the creek, I can
- 3:26Speaker 1: shoot the whole thing, because I'm not all the way over.
- 3:30Speaker 1: The downside is I've got across the path of the
- 3:34Speaker 1: deer going back and forth to get there. So that's
- 3:38Speaker 1: where sink control is really critical. I was on the
- 3:44Speaker 1: north side of the rut funnel and at one point
- 3:48Speaker 1: I saw the buck that I thought was him come
- 3:50Speaker 1: out of the come between the CRP and a finger
- 3:52Speaker 1: of trees that I shot a good buck out of
- 3:55Speaker 1: a few years ago. And I saw him come and
- 3:57Speaker 1: I got excited and I thought, Oh, that looks like
- 3:59Speaker 1: a would be a shooter. And then he kind of
- 4:03Speaker 1: like turned like he saw some deer, and I saw
- 4:04Speaker 1: his tail.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I saw him run off, and I thought, oh crap.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And then a little while later, probably like an hour later,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'm watching up the funnel and I don't see much.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I see a couple of doos come through, and then
- 4:20Speaker 1: I'm sitting there and I'm just kind of like thinking
- 4:23Speaker 1: do I stay or do I go? And I hear
- 4:26Speaker 1: I hear something and I look down like right there,
- 4:30Speaker 1: like already in range like twelve twelve yards from the
- 4:34Speaker 1: base of my tree, and I see antlers and I
- 4:37Speaker 1: see a tail twitch and I'm like, holy cow, where
- 4:39Speaker 1: did he come from.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I mean I didn't even hear him, and he just
- 4:43Speaker 2: walked right underneath me.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I mean when I shot him, I was shooting, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 1: not quite straight down, but like seven yards from the
- 4:50Speaker 1: base of the tree in high you know, out low,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and I literally watched him go like that and flop over.
- 4:58Speaker 1: So love it. Well, congratulations, So you were you were
- 5:02Speaker 1: a guide in Alaska, and I feel like an unspoken
- 5:05Speaker 1: rule of a guide is to keep morale high and
- 5:09Speaker 1: maybe not so like when when your hunter's in there
- 5:11Speaker 1: and he's you know, spell this time or money, and
- 5:13Speaker 1: you know it's gone from work, one from his family
- 5:16Speaker 1: and you're struggling. What do you say to the guys
- 5:19Speaker 1: listening right now that feel you know, they've been hunting
- 5:22Speaker 1: really hard and just things haven't been going the way
- 5:24Speaker 1: they need to. We're are entering arguably the lockdown period
- 5:29Speaker 1: here between the twelfth and nineteenth. What do you say
- 5:32Speaker 1: to a guy that's like Phil, I don't know, I'm struggling.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So in Alaska, like moose hunting or brown bear hunting
- 5:39Speaker 1: or caribou hunting, it can be like two or three
- 5:42Speaker 1: days of slow and nothing before bam, something happens where
- 5:47Speaker 1: white tail hunting. You know, sometimes half a day or
- 5:51Speaker 1: a few hours can seem like a lifetime of nothing happening, right.
- 5:55Speaker 1: But what I have found, some of the biggest trophies
- 6:00Speaker 1: I've killed in my life have been shifting my attitude
- 6:04Speaker 1: towards hunting with friends and allowing them to take the
- 6:09Speaker 1: first trophies because they've either never done it before or
- 6:12Speaker 1: never killed one. And what I've found is a lot
- 6:16Speaker 1: of times being patient works out, works out to your benefit.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And it usually it seems like whether you're sitting in
- 6:21Speaker 1: the white Tail woods or just spending day after day glassing,
- 6:25Speaker 1: you know, call and moose, waiting for a big bull
- 6:27Speaker 1: to walk in. About the time you really think why
- 6:31Speaker 1: am I doing this, all of a sudden bam, something
- 6:34Speaker 1: happens and you know, there's that flurry of excitement for
- 6:38Speaker 1: you know, however long, and you either take advantage of
- 6:40Speaker 1: it or you don't. But yeah, usually about the time
- 6:46Speaker 1: you're really thinking about giving up is usually when your
- 6:48Speaker 1: luck changes it. You know, if you're really serious and
- 6:51Speaker 1: you're actually putting the time in, it's it's bound to
- 6:54Speaker 1: happen eventually.
- 6:55Speaker 2: It's just it's gonna happen.
- 6:57Speaker 1: That's great advice.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Is there any.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Is there anything that sticks out to you to be
- 7:04Speaker 1: you know, maybe one of the most important things that
- 7:05Speaker 1: hunting this this next week of November, between the twelfth
- 7:09Speaker 1: and nineteenth, it looks like temperatures are going to be
- 7:10Speaker 1: kind of elevated for this upcoming weekend. You know, with
- 7:13Speaker 1: all that considered, uh, where is kind of your hat at?
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think I would give you know, probably the you know,
- 7:22Speaker 1: the generic answers you'd get from most any you know,
- 7:25Speaker 1: whitetail guy that time a period. So in Indiana this
- 7:28Speaker 1: year that is Saturdays, actually the opening weekend of gun
- 7:34Speaker 1: in Indiana. And even if I even if I haven't
- 7:37Speaker 1: shot my one buck in Indiana, sometimes I'll gun hunt.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Sometimes I just kind of wait for the madness to
- 7:42Speaker 1: be over and then go back into bow hunting mode.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Or I'll put on a red cap, which you usually
- 7:47Speaker 1: you know, you have to wear red to bow hunt.
- 7:48Speaker 1: But I would say, you know, I would switch off
- 7:54Speaker 1: to the you know, the thickets between you know, bedding
- 7:57Speaker 1: and food and you know, catch the catch those bucks
- 8:01Speaker 1: that are looking for that next dough you know where
- 8:04Speaker 1: where you know, I mean back back in the thick,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you know where you're not like bumping deer out of bedding.
- 8:12Speaker 1: But you're not necessarily in the destination food plots either.
- 8:16Speaker 4: You know.
- 8:16Speaker 1: The the problem with hunting food plots is is you know,
- 8:19Speaker 1: you blow dose out of food plots and you can
- 8:21Speaker 1: you can change that spot for a week or several
- 8:25Speaker 1: days or maybe the whole season where you know, if
- 8:28Speaker 1: you can get between the food and the bedding, usually
- 8:32Speaker 1: you're catching deer going through and you know, when it
- 8:34Speaker 1: gets dark, you can say, Okay, now's my chance.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Gather up your stuff, get down the tree.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And you know, if you've got if you've got good
- 8:40Speaker 1: access and you know in and out, that's going to
- 8:44Speaker 1: be your safest bet to you know, low impact, but
- 8:48Speaker 1: still catch you know, those bucks, you know, frantically looking
- 8:52Speaker 1: for the you know, for that next dough. And I mean,
- 8:54Speaker 1: if you've got a high dough population, you know, you
- 8:56Speaker 1: may not see much cruising looking for those doughs at all.
- 8:59Speaker 2: They may not have to go far to get them.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And I think that's I think that's what I'm that's
- 9:04Speaker 1: that's what I'm dealing with here in Indiana. I think
- 9:06Speaker 1: we just have too many dos and I think it's
- 9:09Speaker 1: you know, it's just really cut down on the amount
- 9:11Speaker 1: of buck movement in general. Yeah. Now, I think that's
- 9:15Speaker 1: important too, because I feel that, you know, the deeper
- 9:18Speaker 1: the season gets, the more desperate people get where they're like, oh, yeah,
- 9:21Speaker 1: you know, I don't really care if I scare some deer.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I have to get back here. I have to get
- 9:25Speaker 1: you know, like make you know, forget the fundamentals and
- 9:27Speaker 1: dis inherently make it harder on themselves. So I think
- 9:28Speaker 1: that's a great piece of advice for folks to remember
- 9:31Speaker 1: the fundamentals and keep keep You got to be there
- 9:34Speaker 1: to win, right, You got to be out there to
- 9:35Speaker 1: have an opportunity. But I still want to not make
- 9:37Speaker 1: it harder for yourself. So I'm going to tell you
- 9:40Speaker 1: something that I'd never talked about before, but I think
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's the biggest mistake that people make going into the woods.
- 9:44Speaker 1: And I've done I've done a bunch of research on this,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and I've done a little bit of writing. I haven't
- 9:48Speaker 1: come up with a a sale of the story.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But you know, how we sneak into our tree stands.
- 9:55Speaker 1: You know, we're meticulous about keeping our boots clean and
- 9:57Speaker 1: our pant legs clean, and we're not touching the weeds
- 10:00Speaker 1: as we're walking through the woods and we're like, uh,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you know, got to get to my stand without leaving
- 10:05Speaker 1: any scent.
- 10:05Speaker 2: You go there, and then you know.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Later in the morning you got a three year old
- 10:10Speaker 1: dough walks exactly. Your path comes to the base of
- 10:12Speaker 1: your tree, sifts around, and it maybe goes on about
- 10:14Speaker 1: her business or whatever, and you think, how in the
- 10:16Speaker 1: world can she smell me? Right, I mean, we've all
- 10:19Speaker 1: been there, We've all been there, and I can tell
- 10:22Speaker 1: you the most overlooked thing I think that everybody is
- 10:25Speaker 1: dealing with.
- 10:26Speaker 2: It's your breath. Interesting, it's your breath.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Nobody talks about it, nobody covers it. Yet that's how
- 10:36Speaker 1: bloodhounds find people is breath, breath and skin cells. So
- 10:42Speaker 1: the more you can cover up, long sleeves, gloves, cover
- 10:46Speaker 1: your face. I've started. I started wearing a mask to
- 10:51Speaker 1: my tree stamp. Right. So it's hard to sit in
- 10:54Speaker 1: a tree stamp a guy with glasses, it's hard to
- 10:56Speaker 1: sit for long periods of time because your glasses fog up.
- 10:59Speaker 1: It just sucks. I mean, it takes all it takes
- 11:01Speaker 1: all the remaining fun right out of it. Right, But
- 11:05Speaker 1: for me now, I don't want to leave any scent
- 11:08Speaker 1: between the truck and the base of my tree. When
- 11:11Speaker 1: I get up there, my, you know, my, my, my, uh.
- 11:18Speaker 2: My breathing has relaxed.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I'm not expelling as much moisture whatever, so I don't
- 11:25Speaker 1: pay as the closest attention to it. Although I've seen
- 11:29Speaker 1: I've seen Jim Browker sit in a tree stand with
- 11:32Speaker 1: a charcoal mask on and and literally cover his face.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So when when when I go into my tree and
- 11:41Speaker 1: I have deer completely around me in my downwind and
- 11:44Speaker 1: I don't have dose stomp and I don't have any blown,
- 11:47Speaker 1: I don't have any carrying on, and then my trail
- 11:49Speaker 1: cameras show pictures of bucks and doze in the same
- 11:53Speaker 1: area around where I've been. I feel pretty confident that
- 11:56Speaker 1: the day before, when I was in there, I didn't
- 11:59Speaker 1: have much impat Everybody knows every time you hunt a
- 12:01Speaker 1: tree stand, the quality of that stand just goes down
- 12:04Speaker 1: a little bit more, a little bit more, a little
- 12:06Speaker 1: bit more. But when you don't see deer reacting to
- 12:09Speaker 1: you being there, I mean, it's not a guarantee that
- 12:14Speaker 1: you haven't degraded that stand. Because I think anything can
- 12:18Speaker 1: make a difference. The other thing that I learned too,
- 12:21Speaker 1: is not only is it your breath, but then it's
- 12:24Speaker 1: also things that don't belong there. I hunted Kansas with
- 12:28Speaker 1: some bear clients a number of years ago. I hunted
- 12:31Speaker 1: two years in a row, and every day when i'd
- 12:34Speaker 1: walk into this stand, there was this huge puddle that
- 12:38Speaker 1: when I turned off the main road and turned to
- 12:40Speaker 1: go back into the woods to my tree stand, there
- 12:42Speaker 1: was this big there was this big puddle, and so
- 12:44Speaker 1: I thought, this is years ago. I thought, being a
- 12:46Speaker 1: smart guy that I was, I'd get in there and
- 12:49Speaker 1: scrub my boots real good and wash off anything that
- 12:52Speaker 1: they might have picked up in the bed of the
- 12:53Speaker 1: truck or whatever, you know, get them all wet, and
- 12:56Speaker 1: then I screwed off into the woods, pimb up my
- 12:59Speaker 1: tree stand and think, okay, here I go. And in
- 13:04Speaker 1: some cases I think I was doing more harm by
- 13:08Speaker 1: stepping in that puddle than I was if I would
- 13:11Speaker 1: have just walked down the gravel road, turned down my
- 13:15Speaker 1: path with dry boots and just went in. Because now
- 13:18Speaker 1: what was happening is I'm introducing water and whatever scent
- 13:22Speaker 1: was in that puddle from cars driving through whatever. I
- 13:25Speaker 1: actually added more scent, more things that didn't belong to
- 13:30Speaker 1: my boots boom and scattered it right to my right,
- 13:34Speaker 1: to my stand. Yeah, but I'm telling you the breath,
- 13:37Speaker 1: the breath, The breath is big. That's interesting. Well, nobody
- 13:42Speaker 1: talks about it, but it's your breath test. Yeah, Google,
- 13:47Speaker 1: how does the bloodhound find a last person? And they'll
- 13:49Speaker 1: tell you it's their breath and skin cells. And we
- 13:51Speaker 1: all know that white tailed deer have better nose than
- 13:54Speaker 1: a bloodhound. So as long as you're leaving. I had
- 13:58Speaker 1: an experiment. I put a white masth like we all
- 14:00Speaker 1: wore during COVID. I took off from the truck, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: went to my tree stand, I climbed up. When I
- 14:05Speaker 1: got all settled, and I took it off. And when
- 14:07Speaker 1: I took that white mask off, I had a puddle,
- 14:10Speaker 1: a puddle like moisture ran dripped out. So all that
- 14:15Speaker 1: moisture that was contained in that mask would have been
- 14:17Speaker 1: scattered between the base of my tree and the truck.
- 14:20Speaker 1: That's interesting, well, people, Yeah, people can people can test
- 14:24Speaker 1: this theory and see if they have less dear follow them.
- 14:26Speaker 1: So knowing the phase of November right now, knowing weather
- 14:31Speaker 1: isn't you know a plus here for the next seven
- 14:33Speaker 1: days scale one to ten. Where do you put this
- 14:35Speaker 1: next weekend? Oof? Well, and I mean Indiana they're going
- 14:42Speaker 1: to slaughter him because his gun season.
- 14:44Speaker 2: It's the middle of the rud. I mean, it's just
- 14:46Speaker 2: a tragedy.
- 14:47Speaker 1: But I'm not seeing I'm not seeing I'm not seeing
- 14:53Speaker 1: the numbers of older age class deer this year that
- 14:57Speaker 1: I have pretty consistently in the past. So I don't
- 14:59Speaker 1: know if EHD has taken more of a hit this
- 15:02Speaker 1: year than it has in the past. If it's just
- 15:04Speaker 1: the you know, the full moon and then working at
- 15:07Speaker 1: night and and you know, the warmer weather being less movement,
- 15:14Speaker 1: If I'm just was really sucky about my trail cam
- 15:17Speaker 1: location since this year, I don't know.
- 15:19Speaker 2: But to me it's an off year. It to me,
- 15:23Speaker 2: it's it's been hard to get excited.
- 15:27Speaker 1: You know, people start getting excited about trail camp pictures
- 15:30Speaker 1: over beans in July and then August, and then you
- 15:33Speaker 1: know they get hard horned and you get the you
- 15:36Speaker 1: get the dispersal and they're like, oh, oh, my big
- 15:38Speaker 1: deer are gone, or holy cow, one just showed up.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I never worry about that stuff until like the first
- 15:43Speaker 1: of October, and then I don't get excited until you know,
- 15:46Speaker 1: the twenty fifth of October. If I don't have pictures
- 15:48Speaker 1: of bucks by the twenty fifth of October, now I'm
- 15:51Speaker 1: starting to kind of Now I'm kind of starting to
- 15:53Speaker 1: panic a little bit. And that's kind of the way
- 15:55Speaker 1: it's been like since the twenty fifth of November. So,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I mean, I don't want to be a Debbie downer,
- 16:03Speaker 1: but for me, I you know, I'm gonna keep hunting
- 16:06Speaker 1: Illinois and keep my fingers crossed. But it's you know,
- 16:11Speaker 1: with with even more warm weather, I think it's just
- 16:13Speaker 1: going to be more of the same. I mean, I
- 16:15Speaker 1: think I think there's gonna be a lot of deer
- 16:18Speaker 1: killed just because it's the one time of the year
- 16:21Speaker 1: the bucks will make a mistake and and you know,
- 16:23Speaker 1: not be as vigilant going through the woods, and people
- 16:25Speaker 1: are gonna, you know, people are going to hammer them.
- 16:27Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 16:30Speaker 1: So one of ten, where do you put it?
- 16:32Speaker 3: Ah?
- 16:35Speaker 1: Six, Okay, I think we had another. I think we
- 16:38Speaker 1: had another six in this patch. But well, Phil, congratulations
- 16:42Speaker 1: once again, and good luck in Illinois and appreciate it.
- 16:46Speaker 1: People can pay attention to their skin cells and their
- 16:50Speaker 1: breath and maybe you're onto something.
- 16:52Speaker 2: I think I'm onto something.
- 16:54Speaker 4: All right.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Next up we have Kevin Visison with Deer Hunter Podcasts,
- 16:58Speaker 1: who just tagged a perfon that's no best buck in Michigan.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 17:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 17:03Speaker 1: How's it feel?
- 17:04Speaker 4: It feels phenomenal.
- 17:07Speaker 5: It was a real It was a real emotional rollercoaster.
- 17:11Speaker 6: I hit a buck bad on Tuesday, hit him high,
- 17:17Speaker 6: backstrapped him, and come to find out, when I got
- 17:21Speaker 6: down out of the tree and started looking around, by
- 17:24Speaker 6: site was loose. It was like fifteen yards. It was
- 17:28Speaker 6: a chip shot. It was an absolute slam dunk chip shot.
- 17:32Speaker 6: I had, I've got everything on film, but I got
- 17:37Speaker 6: down and there was no blood, and so.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I watched the footage back.
- 17:40Speaker 6: I'm like, well, I definitely hit that deer high and
- 17:44Speaker 6: my site had come loose. So I already had PTSD
- 17:49Speaker 6: going from Tuesday and then Wednesday evening it was super
- 17:55Speaker 6: high winds, so I tucked into some thermal cover on
- 17:59Speaker 6: a down wind side of a small mountain. Basically that
- 18:03Speaker 6: I assumed some does were betting on and that there
- 18:07Speaker 6: might be some bucks kind of cruising through this area,
- 18:10Speaker 6: and I just, you know, you gamble, and I picked
- 18:13Speaker 6: the wrong trail. I was hoping that he was going
- 18:16Speaker 6: to take the primary trail that was going to be
- 18:18Speaker 6: between me and the dough betting, but he picked the
- 18:21Speaker 6: one just behind me, which was on the down wind
- 18:24Speaker 6: side of me. He came in on the down wind
- 18:26Speaker 6: side of me, so I was kind of worked up.
- 18:28Speaker 6: Plus I'm in a saddle and he was on my
- 18:30Speaker 6: weak side, so I had I was matured deer at
- 18:34Speaker 6: twenty yards unannounced to me. I look back, he's right there,
- 18:38Speaker 6: so I'm like, oh my gosh, get my bow.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Come over my bridge.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Lutily, luckily there was some pines, so he as he's
- 18:45Speaker 6: walking past me, he's going through some pines and I
- 18:48Speaker 6: was able to get away with a lot of movement.
- 18:51Speaker 5: So I came over my bridge. But still is very acrobatic.
- 18:55Speaker 6: And you know you when you practice shooting, you're in yard,
- 19:00Speaker 6: you got good form.
- 19:01Speaker 5: Like everything's this was the complete opposite.
- 19:04Speaker 1: It was totally.
- 19:06Speaker 5: It was.
- 19:07Speaker 6: It was, and I realized that before I let the
- 19:10Speaker 6: arrow go that I was right.
- 19:12Speaker 5: It was in a terrible position. I did what I
- 19:15Speaker 5: could to straighten myself out.
- 19:17Speaker 6: I took an extra second and I really settled the
- 19:19Speaker 6: pin and I was conscious about that because I just
- 19:22Speaker 6: had a bad scenario and I didn't want to have
- 19:24Speaker 6: another one. But I let the arrow go. It sounded
- 19:28Speaker 6: really good, it looked really good. But it happened well.
- 19:31Speaker 6: I have it all on a film.
- 19:33Speaker 5: It was twenty nine seconds from the time I saw
- 19:35Speaker 5: the deer to the time I let the arrow go.
- 19:47Speaker 6: When I got down to the impact site, there was
- 19:51Speaker 6: no blood.
- 19:52Speaker 5: The arrow had blood on it, but there was no blood.
- 19:54Speaker 6: And I could see where the deer had turned up
- 19:56Speaker 6: the pine leaves running and I went like twenty five
- 19:59Speaker 6: yards and there wasn't a single drop of blood.
- 20:02Speaker 5: And I I just instantly just went to the deep, deep.
- 20:07Speaker 6: Down bottoms of Oh my gosh, how could I have
- 20:11Speaker 6: How could this have happened? And so what ended up
- 20:15Speaker 6: happening is I think when I hit him, so he
- 20:19Speaker 6: was quartering to a little bit, and he was very close,
- 20:23Speaker 6: my entry was high and my exit was very low,
- 20:25Speaker 6: like in.
- 20:26Speaker 5: His armpit on the off side armpit.
- 20:28Speaker 6: His leg was forward, and when that arrow came out,
- 20:33Speaker 6: I think when he ran, his leg came back and
- 20:35Speaker 6: covered the exit and it was like really tight to
- 20:41Speaker 6: where it held all the blood in until the blood
- 20:43Speaker 6: came up the cavity all the way to the high entry,
- 20:47Speaker 6: because we went almost one hundred yards on little pinpricks of.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Blood and then like someone opened a faucet.
- 20:57Speaker 6: And the next fifty yards was just a basically a
- 21:05Speaker 6: drug out puddle of blood and he was laying right there.
- 21:10Speaker 6: And so I went from the lowest of lows to
- 21:12Speaker 6: the highest of highs and had like, if anybody wants
- 21:16Speaker 6: to get me a Christmas gift, I could use a
- 21:18Speaker 6: subscription to a mental health clinic.
- 21:20Speaker 4: Come out coming out of it.
- 21:22Speaker 1: That's November, November, white tales and a nuts.
- 21:25Speaker 6: I'm telling you, I'm telling you, man, it's a lot,
- 21:29Speaker 6: it's a lot. I had a good friend with me,
- 21:32Speaker 6: and we celebrated accordingly, and it was a big emotional dump.
- 21:37Speaker 4: But yeah, I'm going to weigh.
- 21:39Speaker 5: The deer tomorrow.
- 21:40Speaker 6: I suspect he's maybe going to weigh around two hundred
- 21:42Speaker 6: and twenty five pounds.
- 21:43Speaker 5: You know, he's a wilderness deer.
- 21:45Speaker 6: He's never had a bite of corn or any kind
- 21:48Speaker 6: of egg or anything like that. So yeah, it's it's
- 21:51Speaker 6: it's still I guess it's less common for you know,
- 21:56Speaker 6: deer that live in that type of situation to put
- 21:59Speaker 6: on a ton.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Of win eight mass.
- 22:00Speaker 6: You know they're they're really they put a lot of
- 22:03Speaker 6: their time and energy into just surviving.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Yeah. So yeah, no, that's awesome, man, congratulations and super exciting.
- 22:10Speaker 1: So still have a tag and so looking at here,
- 22:15Speaker 1: you know, I think, you know, the first we're getting
- 22:19Speaker 1: into the first the first quarter of November is over.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So like more than likely people that listeners dud. They've
- 22:25Speaker 1: been hunting hard, they've been hunting every chance they get,
- 22:28Speaker 1: and maybe things haven't gone quite the way they were hoping.
- 22:31Speaker 1: And so now from the twelfth of the nineteenth, what
- 22:33Speaker 1: do you say to that guy that's like, Man, I'm struggling.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I'm struggling. I'm starting to get in my own head.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm forgetting the fundamentals of what I need to be
- 22:44Speaker 1: doing this time of year. For that guy, what do
- 22:46Speaker 1: you tell them?
- 22:48Speaker 5: I I you know, I grew up. I'm like fast
- 22:52Speaker 5: and furious.
- 22:53Speaker 6: And there's a quote when the young guy's drag Race
- 22:57Speaker 6: and the old guy and he hits the nitrous too
- 22:59Speaker 6: soon and he doesn't make it to the finish line,
- 23:02Speaker 6: and then Dominic Turetto says, too soon, Junior, and then
- 23:07Speaker 6: he hits it at the end and he wins. Social
- 23:12Speaker 6: media really accelerates people's thinking. I think now that they
- 23:18Speaker 6: gotta get it done. Everybody's getting it done. I haven't
- 23:20Speaker 6: got it done. And you're you are right. We are
- 23:24Speaker 6: coming to the peak of the mountain. So you you
- 23:28Speaker 6: climb up the peak of the mountain and we'll call
- 23:30Speaker 6: the peak of the mountain. We're probably there right now
- 23:34Speaker 6: as we're recording this. It's what the seventh, It's Bill Winkie.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Day, It's National Tree Stand Bill Winki Day.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I had a buck hanging from my back tree.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Bill Winky left me broadheads under it. But we got
- 23:52Speaker 6: a whole downside of the mountain to come down and
- 23:55Speaker 6: it doesn't get bad for a long time.
- 23:56Speaker 4: I took.
- 23:57Speaker 6: My whole point is I wouldn't be an any state
- 24:00Speaker 6: of panic in any capacity.
- 24:03Speaker 5: I if you give me.
- 24:05Speaker 6: An option to hunt from November fifteenth to the end
- 24:08Speaker 6: of the year or November fifteenth to October first, I
- 24:13Speaker 6: would take November fifteenth to the end of the year.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Easy decision for me. I know a lot of the
- 24:21Speaker 6: deer have been killed, but I feel like a lot
- 24:23Speaker 6: of the bigger and smarter deer that have made it
- 24:25Speaker 6: through a deer season they have made it through a
- 24:27Speaker 6: deer season and I've just had a lot of success
- 24:33Speaker 6: late season. I feel like the woods empties out. And
- 24:37Speaker 6: I also think it's worth mentioning. I've heard a lot,
- 24:42Speaker 6: and it's for years people say lockdown, lockdown, lockdown, like
- 24:47Speaker 6: it's a bad thing. Lockdown that I love. Lockdown, Like
- 24:52Speaker 6: you're telling me the deer is in a place like
- 24:55Speaker 6: and he's staying there.
- 24:56Speaker 5: That's a gift. So and when the deer.
- 25:01Speaker 6: Lockdown, it's like a dog with a bone and another
- 25:06Speaker 6: dog goes to it and it's guards it. Those deer
- 25:11Speaker 6: almost get like in zombie mode where you can almost
- 25:15Speaker 6: like go in and throw stuff at them and they
- 25:18Speaker 6: won't leave.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Yeah, they won't leave.
- 25:20Speaker 5: So when the.
- 25:22Speaker 6: Lockdown lockdown phase happens, the deer do stop ranging quite
- 25:29Speaker 6: so much. But if you know where the dough betting
- 25:33Speaker 6: is and where the heavy cover is and where a
- 25:35Speaker 6: buck wants to push a dough to breed them, you
- 25:39Speaker 6: just got to get into those spots and you can
- 25:41Speaker 6: literally walk in on those deer and push them out
- 25:45Speaker 6: of there.
- 25:45Speaker 5: And they don't.
- 25:48Speaker 6: Like to leave. They don't like to leave. So if
- 25:52Speaker 6: you're a mobile hunter and you have flexibility. I understand
- 25:55Speaker 6: that if you are sitting over you know, maybe a
- 26:02Speaker 6: food source, and you're not mobile, and the deer aren't
- 26:05Speaker 6: moving as much, and they're not willing to run across
- 26:08Speaker 6: the open field in the middle of the day because
- 26:10Speaker 6: they're tucked up in heavy cover with a dough. But
- 26:14Speaker 6: I like to hunt that heavy cover, so I guess,
- 26:19Speaker 6: you know, to put a bow on that. I love
- 26:23Speaker 6: what's coming, like, I'm excited for what's coming. Plus, our
- 26:26Speaker 6: gun season opens November fifteenth, m hm, So it's almost.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Basically another basically another Michigan national holiday. You guys have
- 26:34Speaker 1: a lot of holidays in November that a lot of
- 26:36Speaker 1: people don't recognize. You got Bill Winkie Day, and you
- 26:39Speaker 1: have opening Day a gun season in Michigan.
- 26:44Speaker 6: Yeah, November fifteenth is a special day and it marks
- 26:49Speaker 6: the kickoff of our gun season. And then where I live,
- 26:52Speaker 6: I get it's a rate around the same time where
- 26:55Speaker 6: I start to get snow.
- 26:57Speaker 4: So it's a big reset for me.
- 26:58Speaker 6: It opens up a whole new deer season because I
- 27:00Speaker 6: can start tracking and doing some things that I can't
- 27:03Speaker 6: do without snow. I know that that's you know, not
- 27:05Speaker 6: for every everybody doesn't have that situation. But I really
- 27:10Speaker 6: love when we get to that time of the year.
- 27:11Speaker 6: But the best is the best is yet to come
- 27:17Speaker 6: in in my opinion, and I love If I had
- 27:23Speaker 6: to pick one week, I would pick the week of Thanksgiving.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Every time, I've had more big deer walk during daylight
- 27:37Speaker 6: hours and the last week of November historically than anything
- 27:42Speaker 6: else that I see through the year. And we get
- 27:45Speaker 6: you know, we get hundreds or thousands of video and
- 27:49Speaker 6: photo submissions from people that use our synthetic scent products.
- 27:55Speaker 6: The sample size that I have seen is with our
- 27:59Speaker 6: community is very It lines up with what I have
- 28:03Speaker 6: seen personally, and a lot of deer, big deer late
- 28:07Speaker 6: November because like I said, they've been through a deer
- 28:10Speaker 6: season before, they've been chased before. You know, they've been
- 28:14Speaker 6: through it for three or four years, and they know
- 28:16Speaker 6: how to they know how to slide through that period
- 28:19Speaker 6: and they understand a lot of people I think are
- 28:21Speaker 6: out of the woods by that time of year, and
- 28:23Speaker 6: they get one, they get there's less people in the woods,
- 28:28Speaker 6: and two we come down the backside of the mountain,
- 28:32Speaker 6: there's not as many doughs like uh.
- 28:36Speaker 5: I've experienced multiple times where I'm mature.
- 28:38Speaker 6: Dose dose will go to Bucks like they don't even
- 28:43Speaker 6: have to go out and run crazy to breed, right,
- 28:48Speaker 6: But that might not be the case come like November
- 28:51Speaker 6: twenty if through twenty fifth, something like that. And I've
- 28:58Speaker 6: just consistently seen it for years where that is such
- 29:01Speaker 6: a golden opportunity. But a lot of people like I said,
- 29:04Speaker 6: too soon, Junior's.
- 29:07Speaker 1: That's perfect, perfect way to describe it. So either go
- 29:11Speaker 1: get another boost of nitrous the remainder of this month,
- 29:16Speaker 1: or realize that it is truly a marathon and not
- 29:19Speaker 1: a sprint. As cliche as that sounds, it's it is.
- 29:23Speaker 6: You can't just start a marathon off sprinting, or you're
- 29:27Speaker 6: not gonna make it. And you got to be conscious
- 29:29Speaker 6: that social media will lead you to believe that everybody's
- 29:35Speaker 6: got their buck and the thing is over.
- 29:37Speaker 5: But it's it's you know, it's not the case.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I love it. Well, congratulations once again, Kevin. Uh. When's
- 29:44Speaker 1: when's the footage gonna go live? Is it next year?
- 29:47Speaker 1: This year? Soon?
- 29:49Speaker 6: I imagine we'll put something short format together here in
- 29:53Speaker 6: the uh in the coming weeks just so people can
- 29:57Speaker 6: have a look at it. But we we have a
- 30:01Speaker 6: Hunt series on our YouTube at Deer Hunter Podcast, and
- 30:05Speaker 6: I'll save the long format story for next year and
- 30:10Speaker 6: then hopefully you have even bigger one.
- 30:13Speaker 7: Uh.
- 30:14Speaker 6: Wrap my next tag around to love it bigger one
- 30:18Speaker 6: here in the coming weeks.
- 30:19Speaker 1: So love it well. Congratulations was again uh and man,
- 30:24Speaker 1: good luck on the next one.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Thanks Jake.
- 30:28Speaker 1: All right, we got Ben Moseley with White Tail Lane
- 30:30Speaker 1: Designs who just smoked his target buck in Wisconsin. How
- 30:34Speaker 1: does it feel?
- 30:36Speaker 7: It feels pretty good. Feels good like a big weight
- 30:39Speaker 7: off your shoulders. A lot of people knew about.
- 30:42Speaker 1: That, dear, so a lot of people were hunting that
- 30:45Speaker 1: same dear.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:46Speaker 7: He I mean prior to that, he'd been shot at twice.
- 30:51Speaker 7: So neighbor neighbor just over the hill shot at him.
- 30:55Speaker 7: They've got a stand right on our fence line, m so.
- 30:59Speaker 7: And then and then I shot at him too.
- 31:02Speaker 1: If you had a swing and a miss, I had
- 31:04Speaker 1: a swing.
- 31:04Speaker 4: And a miss.
- 31:05Speaker 7: It was like it was the like when was it
- 31:08Speaker 7: the eighth, no seventh or the eighth of October? I
- 31:11Speaker 7: just found him, like on the first and I had
- 31:15Speaker 7: to leave to drive back down to Louisiana and then
- 31:18Speaker 7: we were going to Hawaii. For my wife's birthday. So
- 31:23Speaker 7: he comes out fifty five yards. I'm like, oh, I can,
- 31:26Speaker 7: I can do this, set my sight and then I
- 31:29Speaker 7: intentionally hang hold low and I watched the air like
- 31:33Speaker 7: as it goes, I'm like, that's low shit it the
- 31:37Speaker 7: fletching must have touched is his hair, and he just
- 31:40Speaker 7: jumps and pretty thick cover. He went like ten yards
- 31:44Speaker 7: and then disappeared and walked about twenty yards for me,
- 31:48Speaker 7: but in a bunch of really thick stuff and just
- 31:51Speaker 7: walked off. But uh, he was back on camera the
- 31:54Speaker 7: next day in the same area. He had no idea,
- 31:56Speaker 7: but I'd set my site pin in the rush of
- 31:59Speaker 7: it everything because he was in such thick like CRP.
- 32:03Speaker 7: I'd set it at fifty one and I said it
- 32:06Speaker 7: right at fifty five, pretty sure you would.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Have been dead. But whatever, right I shot him, it.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Still worked out. Yeah, So let's talk about it. So
- 32:19Speaker 1: it's November seventh, right now. You connected with them on
- 32:21Speaker 1: November sixth. What's the activity been like as far as
- 32:25Speaker 1: you know, Like, let's say, what was November fourth and fifth,
- 32:28Speaker 1: and then obviously sixth it came together here, But what's
- 32:31Speaker 1: been the activity here?
- 32:33Speaker 7: Okay, So November fourth. I mean, we've had really high
- 32:37Speaker 7: winds up here, so it was pretty slow. Evenings have
- 32:39Speaker 7: been really slow up here in general camera activity. Everybody
- 32:43Speaker 7: talking about it, just because of the really high winds
- 32:45Speaker 7: that we have, warmer temps than normal.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Mornings have been pretty good.
- 32:49Speaker 7: November fifth, I saw the buck and he'd actually gone
- 32:53Speaker 7: into my parents' yard.
- 32:55Speaker 4: I'll send you the video. It might actually be on
- 32:57Speaker 4: my Instagram.
- 32:58Speaker 7: I forgot, but my dad said, up a decoy down
- 33:00Speaker 7: there is like, hey, let's just see what happens. And
- 33:03Speaker 7: he's drinking his morning coffee looking out the front window.
- 33:06Speaker 4: A little buck.
- 33:06Speaker 7: Comes down, and then he comes down, He squares up
- 33:09Speaker 7: with the decoy, sends the decoy flying, and then walked
- 33:14Speaker 7: twenty yards from the house.
- 33:17Speaker 4: So and then he walked back up the hill.
- 33:19Speaker 7: Walks towards me, and he skirts me about fifty some
- 33:23Speaker 7: yards just in thick cover and goes and beds down.
- 33:26Speaker 7: And then I didn't I saw him again later that
- 33:29Speaker 7: night on the other side of the farm at like
- 33:31Speaker 7: eight pm on camera.
- 33:34Speaker 1: SO and so governing some distance obviously a RT mentality
- 33:40Speaker 1: that he's fighting decoys in the yard. And then on
- 33:44Speaker 1: the six kind of walk us through that game plan
- 33:46Speaker 1: on how you set up and made it happen.
- 33:49Speaker 7: Okay, So I have a stand. It's about one hundred
- 33:52Speaker 7: yards from this house. And the way this property is
- 33:55Speaker 7: is it's you You're basically hunting from the inside out.
- 33:59Speaker 7: It's it's not like you're accessing from your normal roads
- 34:02Speaker 7: or your egg fields. So I have this stand that
- 34:06Speaker 7: is east of the house, about maybe one hundred yards.
- 34:09Speaker 4: It's down in the bottom. There's a pretty deep ditch.
- 34:13Speaker 7: A lot of stuff has been pushed into it because
- 34:16Speaker 7: I did a lot of doser work up here to
- 34:17Speaker 7: open up the egg fields, and so deer just they
- 34:20Speaker 7: won't cross right there. And when you've got i mean
- 34:24Speaker 7: your sun rises from the east, and I've got a
- 34:26Speaker 7: great big rock formation up there that blocks the sun
- 34:30Speaker 7: this time of year until about ten ten thirty in
- 34:32Speaker 7: the morning, So thermals don't do what thermals will normally
- 34:35Speaker 7: do and start rising.
- 34:36Speaker 4: They're they're rushing, so rushing down the hill.
- 34:39Speaker 7: So as long as I've got a steady, calm east wind,
- 34:43Speaker 7: nothing's gonna nothing's gonna win me. So that's where I said,
- 34:48Speaker 7: and I actually almost slept in for the first time
- 34:51Speaker 7: yesterday morning. But I have this this drive where if
- 34:56Speaker 7: I don't do it, it's gonna eat at me. So
- 34:58Speaker 7: I got to the stand probably like five minutes before light,
- 35:04Speaker 7: and uh, shortly after setting up, I hear it Doe
- 35:08Speaker 7: blowing and this the doze in this area.
- 35:12Speaker 4: They're getting really spooky.
- 35:14Speaker 7: I've watched Doe and Fawns blow at Bucks already this year,
- 35:17Speaker 7: so I'm assuming she's being her assed. And uh, shortly later,
- 35:23Speaker 7: about ten minutes after I hear it blowing, she walks
- 35:26Speaker 7: twenty yards in front of me on a logging road
- 35:29Speaker 7: and she stops and she stares, and I'm like, okay,
- 35:33Speaker 7: she looks like she's looking at me, but I can
- 35:35Speaker 7: tell she's looking through me. I'm like, there's something behind me,
- 35:38Speaker 7: but I can't hear anything or just off to my right.
- 35:41Speaker 7: And finally I hear a really deep, deep grunt and
- 35:45Speaker 7: she sits there and stares some more and starts blowing again.
- 35:50Speaker 7: So I'm like, okay, like that, it's got to be him.
- 35:53Speaker 7: My assumption is is him. They seem to kind of
- 35:55Speaker 7: push everything out of the area except for a few
- 35:58Speaker 7: year and a half.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Year old Bucks.
- 36:01Speaker 7: And she walks off and I see I finally see
- 36:05Speaker 7: him out of the corner of my eye. And I
- 36:07Speaker 7: see him. I'm like, he's coming right for the tree.
- 36:10Speaker 7: I'm like, please do not walk behind me. I'm like,
- 36:12Speaker 7: if you walk behind me, you're gonna win me. Because
- 36:15Speaker 7: my thermals were right there. But there's one little narrow
- 36:18Speaker 7: path like three feet he would have been right on
- 36:21Speaker 7: the tree. He ended up bearing and he went in
- 36:24Speaker 7: front of the tree. I watched him through the platform.
- 36:27Speaker 7: I'm sitting watching them through the platform walk underneath me.
- 36:31Speaker 4: He's locked on the dough.
- 36:33Speaker 7: His eyes are locked on the dough, and I finally
- 36:35Speaker 7: just slowly stand up, grab my bow and shoot him
- 36:39Speaker 7: hardquartering away at fifteen yards and he piles up on
- 36:42Speaker 7: the logging road of it after fifty yards and.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Pretty Yeah.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's fun. Yeah, that's that's what November is all about,
- 36:54Speaker 1: those moments right there, that's what everyone's working towards. And
- 36:57Speaker 1: so for folks that still have their tag in their pockets,
- 36:59Speaker 1: so I want you to shift gears to November twelfth. Yeah,
- 37:02Speaker 1: so it's November twelfth, we still have a tag in
- 37:05Speaker 1: your pocket. Maybe something didn't quite go right, maybe you
- 37:07Speaker 1: feel like you're hunting a ghost. What would you tell
- 37:09Speaker 1: that person for this upcoming week, so November twelfth to
- 37:12Speaker 1: the seventeenth.
- 37:17Speaker 7: Keep on with the grind. I tell a lot of
- 37:19Speaker 7: people like the rut. The rout really sucks. Really when
- 37:23Speaker 7: you think about it, it's not super fun to hunt
- 37:27Speaker 7: because you're in you're sitting there, and it can be
- 37:30Speaker 7: extremely boring. I mean, hours on stand the dos have
- 37:35Speaker 7: been harassed to the point where they just don't want
- 37:37Speaker 7: to get her assed anymore. So they're kind of hanging tight.
- 37:41Speaker 7: You're waiting for one buck to get up and move through.
- 37:44Speaker 7: Maybe you'll see like a yearling every once in a while,
- 37:46Speaker 7: but then all of a sudden, you've got like thirty
- 37:48Speaker 7: seconds of just crazy action. Your heart gets beating, and
- 37:52Speaker 7: then it's dead again. That's what everybody's waiting for. You
- 37:57Speaker 7: just got to keep a positive mindset, keep with grind,
- 38:00Speaker 7: keep your butt planet in a tree stand. Do not
- 38:04Speaker 7: sit there and like hunt based off of camera intel,
- 38:07Speaker 7: because if you have a buck on camera, you already
- 38:10Speaker 7: missed him.
- 38:11Speaker 4: He's gone, he went through that area.
- 38:14Speaker 7: And honestly, running cameras and funnels is kind of hard
- 38:17Speaker 7: because usually, I mean a funnel doesn't always bottleneck down
- 38:22Speaker 7: to like ten yards to where camera is really effective.
- 38:24Speaker 4: It's probably a fifty sixty.
- 38:26Speaker 7: Yard wide funnel and the bucks just kind of run
- 38:29Speaker 7: through there.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that's I think Tho's really good advice as far
- 38:42Speaker 1: as maybe someone's struggling on man, you know it the
- 38:47Speaker 1: activity is slowing down, and you know the dose are
- 38:51Speaker 1: definitely harassed. I've definitely pressured the farm. Like these are
- 38:54Speaker 1: things that all going through their mind right now. Is
- 38:57Speaker 1: there any odd ball, throw a dart idea that you
- 39:00Speaker 1: have for someone that's just like, dude, I've tried everything,
- 39:03Speaker 1: I've hunted my spots, and I'm seeing less and less, dear,
- 39:06Speaker 1: and I just I feel out of the game. Do
- 39:07Speaker 1: you stick with the plan or do you call an
- 39:09Speaker 1: audible or tear through and scout a little bit?
- 39:13Speaker 7: I mean, scouting at this time of year, to me
- 39:16Speaker 7: is kind of a crap shoot because if you go
- 39:21Speaker 7: and you find a bunch of rubs, more than likely
- 39:23Speaker 7: those rubs were done either when he was with the
- 39:25Speaker 7: dough and frustrated and he's already moved on from that area,
- 39:29Speaker 7: or they were done most likely late October when they are.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Rubbing a lot, or really early in November when they're rubbing.
- 39:36Speaker 7: A lot scrapes. They kind of fall off the scrapes.
- 39:41Speaker 7: I'll actually notice a lot of bucks on camera this
- 39:44Speaker 7: time of year. They'll actually skirt on the down wind
- 39:47Speaker 7: side of scrapes and I'll just scent check it real quick,
- 39:50Speaker 7: unless it's a scrape they've never visited before. I've got
- 39:52Speaker 7: videos of this buck actually even walking by a scrape
- 39:57Speaker 7: that I know they've never been to before, and they'll
- 39:59Speaker 7: put the brakes on and then they'll go visit it.
- 40:01Speaker 7: But then after that they'll treat it like every other
- 40:04Speaker 7: scrape and they'll just walk past it and.
- 40:08Speaker 4: Check it.
- 40:09Speaker 7: So I would just say the best thing for you
- 40:12Speaker 7: is to plant your butt in a funnel. If there's
- 40:15Speaker 7: a water hole on it, that's even better, because that's
- 40:19Speaker 7: like the one thing that Bucks will go out of
- 40:20Speaker 7: their way for this time of the year is water.
- 40:25Speaker 7: Stay off the food sources, because if there's any does
- 40:28Speaker 7: on food sources, it's really late at night in my
- 40:32Speaker 7: area for cameras. I'm starting to just see on my
- 40:36Speaker 7: farms just fonns wandering by themselves, a year and a
- 40:39Speaker 7: half year old bucks moving quite a bit, so that
- 40:42Speaker 7: kind of tells me that they're with DOES, right now
- 40:46Speaker 7: or a lot of doughs. So I'm guessing here, in
- 40:49Speaker 7: about twenty four to forty eight hours, I'm gonna see
- 40:51Speaker 7: a big flurry of activity on those cameras of newer
- 40:55Speaker 7: Bucks running through, going all over the place, and it's
- 40:58Speaker 7: going to be another another forty eight to seventy two
- 41:01Speaker 7: hours of nothing.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Yeah, looking here the extended forecast Saturday, November fifteenth, high
- 41:09Speaker 1: of sixty nine here in north central Illinois. What do
- 41:13Speaker 1: you say for that guy that has the Saturday off.
- 41:15Speaker 1: He's like, it's November fifteenth, it's almost seventy degrees. Do
- 41:20Speaker 1: I even go? What do you say to that guy?
- 41:22Speaker 4: Don't use that as an excuse not to go.
- 41:24Speaker 7: The biggest book I've ever killed was on Halloween in
- 41:27Speaker 7: nineteen mile an hour winds and it was seventy degrees
- 41:30Speaker 7: that day and he was bumping doze all over the place.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Okay, so stick with them, Yeah, just stick with it.
- 41:37Speaker 7: This time of year, anything can happen. It's just a grind.
- 41:42Speaker 7: I mean, you just have to be in the stand.
- 41:47Speaker 4: To do it.
- 41:48Speaker 7: That's everybody loves the rut because it's when the most
- 41:52Speaker 7: action happens. And I just yeah, temperature definitely helps movement,
- 41:57Speaker 7: but I think it's helping the doze moving than the
- 42:00Speaker 7: bucks have to kind of keep up with them. But
- 42:04Speaker 7: when that dough gets up after she's locked down with him,
- 42:07Speaker 7: that buck's gonna get up and he's gonna he's gonna
- 42:09Speaker 7: move and maybe just a short distance, but maybe that's
- 42:13Speaker 7: all it takes.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Yeah, So looking, you know, knowing that we're gonna have
- 42:17Speaker 1: some elevated temperatures between the twelfth and call it, I
- 42:22Speaker 1: guess the nineteenth. On a scale one to ten, what
- 42:27Speaker 1: what would you put this? This is that becoming week
- 42:30Speaker 1: as far as potential big buck activity.
- 42:33Speaker 7: So we here we actually have a huge cold front
- 42:36Speaker 7: coming I think.
- 42:39Speaker 1: This weekend. But yeah, so we gotta this will go
- 42:41Speaker 1: live on the twelfth.
- 42:43Speaker 7: Okay, okay, okay, yeah, I mean elevated temperatures Again, anything
- 42:49Speaker 7: can happen.
- 42:51Speaker 4: Does it suck? Yeah? Are they gonna move a little
- 42:53Speaker 4: bit more at night? Can it happen? Yeah?
- 42:56Speaker 7: The chips aren't exactly stacked completely in your favor, but
- 42:59Speaker 7: it's all right. The rut stop. Just I really dislike
- 43:04Speaker 7: like hunting forecast apps. I want to if you if
- 43:08Speaker 7: you take like a bunch of them, you compare themselves.
- 43:11Speaker 7: They contradict each other all the time, and then you'll
- 43:13Speaker 7: do that. Yeah, You'll sit there and you'll look at
- 43:16Speaker 7: it and be like, oh, this says it's a good day,
- 43:18Speaker 7: and then all of a sudden, thirty minutes later, it
- 43:20Speaker 7: says it's slow.
- 43:23Speaker 4: And so.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Scale one to ten. Yeah, scale one to ten with
- 43:27Speaker 1: elevated temps from the twelfth to nineteenth. Where do you
- 43:29Speaker 1: put it? You gotta we gotta put a hard number on.
- 43:31Speaker 4: It, probably like six.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Okay, all right, probably it's sick.
- 43:36Speaker 7: I'm not gonna I'm not gonna give it like uh ten,
- 43:40Speaker 7: because again, you don't have the perfect temperatures.
- 43:42Speaker 4: But it's the rut you.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Think it happened. Yeah, anything comes down to mindset. That's right. Well,
- 43:48Speaker 1: congratulations on tagging your target buck here man. That that
- 43:51Speaker 1: is awesome. That's what everyone's that's what everyone's chasing here.
- 43:55Speaker 1: So congratulations, you made it happen, and I appreciate you
- 43:57Speaker 1: hopping on here.
- 43:58Speaker 4: Yeah, no problem, all right.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Next up on the line, we have Jared Larson with
- 44:03Speaker 1: on ex Jared, how was your November seventh?
- 44:07Speaker 8: Uh? My November seventh was mostly in my car, but
- 44:10Speaker 8: I did get did get to the destination for an
- 44:13Speaker 8: evening sit. It was not overbly memorable, but we were.
- 44:17Speaker 8: It was exploratory, so it was it was solid, saw
- 44:20Speaker 8: some new ground, put the boots on some dirt.
- 44:22Speaker 3: And uh, I'm feeling real good about the next week.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. And so you just
- 44:27Speaker 1: wrapped up a hunt in Wisconsin. What was the rud activity,
- 44:29Speaker 1: deer activity? What was going on up there?
- 44:32Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 44:32Speaker 8: I was in Wisconsin the last week and we had
- 44:35Speaker 8: some really good sits and some really tough sits. You know, personally,
- 44:40Speaker 8: I definitely am a little bit of a subscriber to
- 44:43Speaker 8: the full moon.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Which obviously just kind of peaked full.
- 44:47Speaker 8: And I really seem in my anecdotal personal experience that
- 44:52Speaker 8: waxing to the full I do a lot better on
- 44:54Speaker 8: the evening sits.
- 44:55Speaker 3: Uh, And that that held true this past week. I
- 44:58Speaker 3: shot a really good buck.
- 45:01Speaker 8: And uh, I mean, he couldn't have cared less about
- 45:03Speaker 8: the dos in the field. He was just on a
- 45:06Speaker 8: marching mission, laying down scrapes. I mean he literally walked
- 45:09Speaker 8: five yards from you know, four dos and never even
- 45:14Speaker 8: looked at him.
- 45:16Speaker 3: So, you know, I'll take him how I can get him.
- 45:18Speaker 3: But he wasn't too interested in the ladies.
- 45:20Speaker 8: We had lots of young deer chasing, you know, a
- 45:23Speaker 8: year and a half, two and a half year old deer,
- 45:24Speaker 8: three and a half year old deer.
- 45:26Speaker 3: But the mature bucks that we did.
- 45:27Speaker 8: See, you know, really really weren't paying that close of
- 45:30Speaker 8: attention to the ladies.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Interesting. Interesting, So what date did you shoot that buck?
- 45:38Speaker 1: Do you remember the shot?
- 45:39Speaker 3: That book?
- 45:39Speaker 8: On?
- 45:39Speaker 1: November third?
- 45:40Speaker 3: The evening of November.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Third, beautiful day. That's a great day to be a
- 45:45Speaker 1: deer hunter.
- 45:45Speaker 3: That yep, it historically has been one of my best.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Yeah. So going into Iowa. Now, so you you packed
- 45:53Speaker 1: up as November seventh, and how long do you are
- 45:55Speaker 1: you pointing to be hunting in Iowa?
- 45:58Speaker 8: Yep, So I'll be in Iowa, i believe if Sunday
- 46:00Speaker 8: is the seventeenth, and I'll have to head back to
- 46:02Speaker 8: Montana on the seventeenth. So we got we got a
- 46:05Speaker 8: good full eight nine days of lundon here.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Perfect, Okay. So obviously, unfortunately we're recording this, we have
- 46:13Speaker 1: like the cold front of the year where this is
- 46:16Speaker 1: likely going to be one of the best activity spurts
- 46:18Speaker 1: of the year. So when this goes live, hopefully everyone
- 46:21Speaker 1: has had so much success. They don't even have to
- 46:23Speaker 1: tune into rough Fresh because they don't need to know
- 46:25Speaker 1: what's going on, because I already tagged a giant. So
- 46:27Speaker 1: but for folks that didn't, so like November twelfth to
- 46:31Speaker 1: the nineteenth, looking at some potential elevated temperatures, where's your
- 46:36Speaker 1: head at?
- 46:37Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 46:38Speaker 8: You know, you know here and I will obviously as
- 46:40Speaker 8: you mentioned, that cold front is going to be passed
- 46:42Speaker 8: by that point, and I think we're looking at lows
- 46:44Speaker 8: in the like high twenties, low thirties, heating up to
- 46:47Speaker 8: the low sixties during the day, which I really don't
- 46:49Speaker 8: mind that for Iowa here, you know, the late mornings
- 46:54Speaker 8: is really what I'm going to be keyed up on again,
- 46:57Speaker 8: that waning moon after the full I really am a
- 47:01Speaker 8: firm believer in that eight thirty nine am to twelve
- 47:04Speaker 8: thirty one pm timeframe. I'm going to be really keyed
- 47:08Speaker 8: up on, you know, the down wind side of dough betting.
- 47:11Speaker 6: Uh.
- 47:12Speaker 8: And you know, being a guy just like you that
- 47:14Speaker 8: hunts a fair amount of public and a fair amount
- 47:16Speaker 8: of private, I one thing that lulls me to sleep
- 47:20Speaker 8: when I'm hunting private ground is I look at the
- 47:22Speaker 8: wind to not get busted by deer, rather than looking
- 47:26Speaker 8: at the wind to understand how a deer is going
- 47:29Speaker 8: to use that wind. And so that's really something I
- 47:33Speaker 8: always have the option to go mobile if the wind
- 47:36Speaker 8: is going to be you know, let's say we have
- 47:39Speaker 8: a west wind, I'm really going to be keyed up
- 47:41Speaker 8: on those east faces where those deer can put the
- 47:44Speaker 8: wind at their back that security blanket. So I really
- 47:48Speaker 8: try to take my public land hunting mindset into private.
- 47:52Speaker 3: Land when I when I'm hunting the.
- 47:53Speaker 8: Rut and just really focusing on what are those deer
- 47:57Speaker 8: going to be doing, how are they going to be
- 47:58Speaker 8: using that wind to their advantage, rather than just so
- 48:01Speaker 8: solely focused on playing the wind to not get busted.
- 48:04Speaker 8: I mean to be super candid with you, sometimes I
- 48:07Speaker 8: throw caution to.
- 48:09Speaker 3: The wind this time of year.
- 48:12Speaker 8: You know, if I have a spot that I am
- 48:14Speaker 8: hot to trot on and I just have a good
- 48:17Speaker 8: feeling about it, I'll hunt a bad wind this time
- 48:20Speaker 8: of year.
- 48:20Speaker 3: And it's really the only time of year that I'll
- 48:22Speaker 3: do that.
- 48:22Speaker 8: So that's what I'm gonna be keyed in on, especially
- 48:24Speaker 8: in the mornings, is you know that downwind side of
- 48:26Speaker 8: dough betting. I'm in some hillier country, so I'm gonna
- 48:29Speaker 8: use the topography to my advantage, using the light hour
- 48:32Speaker 8: feature on on X to really find those small nuanced draws, benches,
- 48:37Speaker 8: drainages where those deer can put the put the wind
- 48:39Speaker 8: at their back, and you know, find that good betting
- 48:42Speaker 8: and be down wind to that.
- 48:43Speaker 3: And then in the evenings.
- 48:44Speaker 8: You know, a lot of times I'll be pulling all
- 48:46Speaker 8: day sits for the most part, but that does not
- 48:48Speaker 8: mean I'm gonna be sitting in the same tree all day.
- 48:51Speaker 8: You know, I'll hunt a morning set on the down
- 48:53Speaker 8: wind side of dough betting, but then I'll move to
- 48:55Speaker 8: food h in the evening, trying to find those dos
- 48:59Speaker 8: because those bucks obviously are going to be keyed up
- 49:01Speaker 8: on those those major food sources. So where I'm at,
- 49:04Speaker 8: we don't have a whole lot of food plots, but
- 49:06Speaker 8: we got egg up the wazoo, as most people do
- 49:09Speaker 8: in Iowa. So I really prefer corn this time of
- 49:12Speaker 8: year over beans, so I'll be I'll be looking to
- 49:14Speaker 8: find some corn fields, find those edges, and you know,
- 49:18Speaker 8: early on finding those observation sets. It's hard to do
- 49:21Speaker 8: an observation sit sometimes when you're trying to kill them
- 49:25Speaker 8: during the rut, But it can really pay dividends to
- 49:27Speaker 8: just understand where those dos are coming from, because that
- 49:30Speaker 8: also gives you just that tip of the hat as
- 49:32Speaker 8: far as knowledge goes on where they're betting. That way,
- 49:35Speaker 8: you can just continually reposition yourself to be being the
- 49:38Speaker 8: best plot possible because even on private land, you know,
- 49:41Speaker 8: you think.
- 49:41Speaker 3: You know it like the back of your hand, but
- 49:42Speaker 3: sometimes you can find just.
- 49:44Speaker 8: A tricky little spot that that's kind of an aha,
- 49:47Speaker 8: light bulb moment.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely. How closely have you been paying attention to
- 49:52Speaker 1: the deer movement forecast and onyx have you been? Have
- 49:54Speaker 1: you been testing this each day? Like, well, this is
- 49:57Speaker 1: above average below average based off of because that's a
- 50:00Speaker 1: new that's a new feature that I think a lot
- 50:02Speaker 1: of people don't know about. You just clicked the weather icon.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I had to ask you how to do it. So
- 50:06Speaker 1: what have you been seeing with this? Has it been
- 50:08Speaker 1: matching up?
- 50:09Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 50:09Speaker 8: So I've been trying to take daily screenshots like a
- 50:12Speaker 8: couple of days out for the deer movement forecast day of.
- 50:16Speaker 3: And honestly, dude, I've been I've been pretty impressed.
- 50:19Speaker 8: I would say that our deer movement forecast is maybe
- 50:22Speaker 8: a little bit pessimistic in our percent chance of movement,
- 50:27Speaker 8: but I'm okay with that.
- 50:28Speaker 3: I'd rather tell people they have a fifty percent chance
- 50:31Speaker 3: been one hundred percent chance.
- 50:33Speaker 8: Because, as every single one of you listening knows, there
- 50:36Speaker 8: is no one hundred percent chance day. Uh and if
- 50:39Speaker 8: nothing else, you know, use that deer movement forecast as
- 50:42Speaker 8: that little subtle nudge to uh not watch football on
- 50:45Speaker 8: Sunday and get your butt out to a tree stand
- 50:47Speaker 8: if it's gonna be you know, above a forty percent movement.
- 50:50Speaker 3: Chance, you know.
- 50:52Speaker 8: And it's all based on you know, data from machine learning,
- 50:56Speaker 8: trail camera photo intake, as well as all the typical
- 51:00Speaker 8: weather parameters barometric pressure, temperature, moon phase, all that stuff
- 51:05Speaker 8: goes into account.
- 51:06Speaker 3: So I've definitely been paying attention to it.
- 51:08Speaker 8: But as with any piece of technology, the only way
- 51:12Speaker 8: to not kill a deer is to not be hunting.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Perfectly well said, that is the essence and epitome of
- 51:22Speaker 1: November deer hunting. But for the guy that's like, man,
- 51:26Speaker 1: I've just been getting my teeth kicked in. I'm do
- 51:28Speaker 1: I even know how to deer hunt, Like I'm doing
- 51:30Speaker 1: everything wrong is what it feels like. What do you
- 51:32Speaker 1: say to that guy, Because there's a lot of people
- 51:34Speaker 1: that are going to feel like this if they don't
- 51:35Speaker 1: capitalize on this cold front that happens before this goes live.
- 51:39Speaker 9: You know, I think the word it's a grind gets
- 51:42Speaker 9: used a lot in the whitetail world especially, And at
- 51:46Speaker 9: the end of the day, if you're feeling like it's
- 51:48Speaker 9: a grind, take a day off, you know, sweep.
- 51:51Speaker 3: In until eight thirty in the morning, go out there at.
- 51:53Speaker 8: Nine am and hunt that like cruisan scent check in
- 51:56Speaker 8: time of the day, you know, if you're not having fun,
- 52:00Speaker 8: but like, take take a break. Hunting is supposed to
- 52:03Speaker 8: be fun. It's supposed to be enjoyable, you know. I
- 52:06Speaker 8: think everybody wants to chase that five and a half
- 52:09Speaker 8: six and a half, you know, seven and a half
- 52:10Speaker 8: year old deer. But at the end of the day, man,
- 52:12Speaker 8: if you're ready to loosen arrow and a three year
- 52:14Speaker 8: old walks by that you're excited about and you're gonna
- 52:16Speaker 8: be happy with and you're gonna be proud of, give
- 52:18Speaker 8: it to them.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I love it. I love it so with knowing that
- 52:25Speaker 1: temperature as gonna be a little bit elevated. So hones
- 52:28Speaker 1: scale one to ten, where do you put the next
- 52:30Speaker 1: seven days? The twelfth of the nineteenth and ten being
- 52:33Speaker 1: the this is the best week ever, one being I'm
- 52:35Speaker 1: not even gonna go.
- 52:37Speaker 8: Where I am in Iowa historically. You know, we've hunted
- 52:41Speaker 8: this farm for twenty five years.
- 52:44Speaker 3: There is no better time.
- 52:46Speaker 8: This is the time, you know, I would really kind
- 52:48Speaker 8: of bracket it from November ninth to November fifteenth as
- 52:52Speaker 8: like the best days where we're at in Iowa. But
- 52:56Speaker 8: I would say the later that November progresses, call it
- 52:59Speaker 8: like the fifteenth through the twenty second. What we've noticed
- 53:04Speaker 8: is more mature bucks are on their feet.
- 53:07Speaker 3: You're not gonna be in that rut.
- 53:08Speaker 8: Crazed phase of you know, one two three year old
- 53:11Speaker 8: deer just running everywhere and chasing. But when you do
- 53:14Speaker 8: see a buck, there's an elevated chance that it's gonna
- 53:16Speaker 8: be a mature dear.
- 53:17Speaker 3: So you know, those sits can get tough.
- 53:20Speaker 8: You know, you're you're definitely entering the more likely of
- 53:22Speaker 8: lockdown phase. I think you know from today November seventh
- 53:25Speaker 8: all the way through that fifteenth is when you know
- 53:28Speaker 8: a lot of the dos are gonna come into Estris,
- 53:30Speaker 8: so you're gonna have.
- 53:31Speaker 3: Some empty sits.
- 53:32Speaker 8: You know, if you haven't ever been skunked deer hunting,
- 53:36Speaker 8: you're either really blessed or you ain't.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Been hunting enough. So you know, I would say stay
- 53:41Speaker 3: out there. And one thing that I've.
- 53:43Speaker 8: Really started to key in on in the last couple
- 53:45Speaker 8: of years is water. You know, like I think water
- 53:49Speaker 8: can be better than a dang bait pile. There's one
- 53:52Speaker 8: thing that deer need to do every single day, and
- 53:55Speaker 8: that is drink water.
- 53:56Speaker 3: They can go a day.
- 53:57Speaker 8: Without eating, they can go, you know, a day without
- 54:00Speaker 8: doing whatever that a deer does, except water. So we
- 54:04Speaker 8: have a couple strategic, you know, pieces of water on
- 54:08Speaker 8: our property, and we also have a creep that runs
- 54:10Speaker 8: through it. But I saw a really interesting post recently
- 54:13Speaker 8: that resonated with me that deer don't prefer to drink
- 54:17Speaker 8: from moving water for a couple of reasons. A there's
- 54:21Speaker 8: there's noise to it, right, and when a deer is drinking,
- 54:24Speaker 8: their head is down, their nose is in the water.
- 54:26Speaker 3: They're completely reliant on their ears.
- 54:29Speaker 8: And so I've noticed at the properties that I hunt
- 54:32Speaker 8: that have running water, deer seem to prefer little still ponds,
- 54:37Speaker 8: you know, twenty gallon buckets that are buried in the ground,
- 54:40Speaker 8: and that's exactly what we have at this Iowa farm.
- 54:42Speaker 8: We got three or four, you know, ten to twenty
- 54:46Speaker 8: gallon buckets that we're definitely going to be filling up
- 54:49Speaker 8: the first couple of days here, and I'm gonna be
- 54:52Speaker 8: keying in on that water, especially in those warmer late mornings.
- 54:55Speaker 8: You know, a buck before he goes back to bed,
- 54:58Speaker 8: and the first thing he does when he gets up,
- 54:59Speaker 8: he's probably gonna be looking for a drink. So with
- 55:02Speaker 8: the warmer temperatures, I would key it on water. If
- 55:04Speaker 8: you have moving water and that's all you got, go
- 55:07Speaker 8: on it. If you got still water, go on it.
- 55:12Speaker 1: I love it. Well. Jared, good luck here with an
- 55:16Speaker 1: Iowa tag already shot out Wisconsin buck. It's a pleasure.
- 55:19Speaker 1: And keep keep checking in on the benchmarking the forecasting
- 55:24Speaker 1: app because that's an unfor like everyone's like, well they
- 55:26Speaker 1: have said this, so you guys are giving yeah, well, Jared,
- 55:34Speaker 1: thank you so much.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Appreciate it. Jake, good luck everybody.
- 55:37Speaker 1: There, you guys have I hope you guys enjoyed this
- 55:40Speaker 1: week's episode of Retfresh. Good Luck over the next week.
- 55:44Speaker 1: I know conditions aren't perfect. You're probably tired, you're probably
- 55:48Speaker 1: questioning everything, you're questioning your preparation. But if there was
- 55:52Speaker 1: one theme here for today, it's a stick to it,
- 55:55Speaker 1: stick to it, hunt smart, and you're going to get
- 55:58Speaker 1: the lucky balance, lucky break, or strategic break or a
- 56:02Speaker 1: strategic bounce that is going to help you finish out
- 56:05Speaker 1: this season or finish out this part of November before
- 56:09Speaker 1: things start to wind out. You know, we're on the
- 56:11Speaker 1: on the decline of the peak of the mountainous, Kevin said,
- 56:15Speaker 1: so be sure to capitalize it, enjoy this time period,
- 56:18Speaker 1: don't wish it away, and get out there and good luck.
- 56:21Speaker 6: M
