- 0:03And we're back. It's like we never left buttocks
- 0:06LCD back on the, on the titles doing their thing right before
- 0:10we get all stuffed with good awesome.
- 0:14I, you know, I say jerky and Outing like turkey or week, it's
- 0:18stuffed with all the the food that we work to eat all year
- 0:21round. So, welcome, welcome.
- 0:23Welcome mr. Lucius, how are you tonight?
- 0:26I'm wonderful. Xavier.
- 0:29Well, good to hear Clyde in yourself.
- 0:36I made it through traffic. I ate some tacos.
- 0:38I'm waiting on my pumpkin pie. I'm good.
- 0:45If that doesn't sound very, I don't know.
- 0:47What does legitimately. Well, you could have been eating
- 0:51it while you're in traffic. Still driving home to say
- 0:57Governor. How are you today, sir?
- 1:02I'm okay. I'm okay.
- 1:05I'm, you know, I have to do a little bit of this to make sure
- 1:10everything is still moving. I've been I've been working
- 1:13really hard. Let's put it that way.
- 1:15And you know, this is, this is a that time of year and it feels,
- 1:21it feels good to be back with the living in order in terms of,
- 1:26you know, recruiting and and all of that.
- 1:29So yeah, I'm very happy tired. But happy, love it, Lamar. 007
- 1:38coffins. I don't know.
- 1:41We want to know that. How are you today, sir?
- 1:49Good? I am.
- 1:51I've been on my agent grind, hence, the 007.
- 1:56But I don't think anybody in America that watches this show
- 2:03is surprised that Chuck is Waiting for his pumpkin pie.
- 2:08Nice going to be a good show. I'm looking forward.
- 2:10So, big Lee, how are you doing? Looking forward to it.
- 2:16All I will similar to the governor.
- 2:22Finally, getting my head above, the water and breathe, a little
- 2:26bit. And, you know, getting out from
- 2:29under the whole recruiting the big big, big big, not that we're
- 2:32not recording anymore, but like the onslaught of recruiting Yes.
- 2:36So now it's getting a phase and analyze inside and back returned
- 2:42signed again and in fact return and then processed.
- 2:46So it's good times good times. So learn that I'm the only dummy
- 2:52on the child's that actually I can't say that out loud.
- 2:57Never mind beyond the time, most moving on, not because but a
- 3:22legislation within the transfer portal in the NCAA restriction
- 3:25Center. Put on it because now they've
- 3:27learned. They got it.
- 3:29Narrow the scope of what we call the portal because it's
- 3:33literally become a portal, a moving entity for athletes to.
- 3:41So, with that being said, we have our research person, the
- 3:48governor we asked him to go a little Carmen Sandiego on it,
- 3:52and he just some research about the portal and he's going to
- 3:54give us some some intricacies deep.
- 3:59Then The Superficial layer, if you would, if you're watching
- 4:03this show, go pop popcorn, come back then.
- 4:07Push play can a pen, a pen real quick.
- 4:14So yeah, right now sir. Well, it's interesting.
- 4:20You know, we all had a feeling that this was coming.
- 4:24We all had a sense that there were changes coming.
- 4:29And, you know, we've all those of us that are still in it.
- 4:33We've all had those meetings with our compliance departments
- 4:36and and they've, they've tried their best to explain how the
- 4:44new rules work. And so, I've dug a little bit
- 4:50deeper, I've gone ahead and, you know, started doing some
- 4:54homework on, you know, some of the ins and outs of the port.
- 4:59Ali. And so let's just start with the
- 5:04dates and you know for instance let's just start with
- 5:09cross-country. So cross country has a period
- 5:13between November 13th and December 27th where they can
- 5:19enter the portal spring Sports have December 1st to December
- 5:2515th. To get into the portal and
- 5:29that's if someone wants to go to transfer for January, and there
- 5:37are two other opportunities after the NCAA indoor
- 5:43championships. And then after the outdoor NCAA
- 5:47championships, I believe it's, is it 45 or 60 days?
- 5:5345 45 6 60s. Or the cross window we were
- 5:59okay. Okay so The student athlete
- 6:07still has to notify compliance in writing email and basically
- 6:15they have to initiate the process.
- 6:18And then the compliance department has 24 48 hours to
- 6:24basically put that student athlete in the portal. and, No,
- 6:32once that happens, you are now open to be recruited.
- 6:38And there are you have a choice inside of that?
- 6:44And it's always, you know, you always kind of makes you
- 6:46chuckle, you know, when we coaches, go on the portal and we
- 6:51see athlete ex who has that that little triangle by their name.
- 6:57And it's almost like they almost know where they're going.
- 7:01The Big Choice. You mean go to Gainesville or
- 7:05not the choice. They've got their eyes on.
- 7:11Let's just call it that all triangles Point towards
- 7:16Gainesville, you trying to say, you know?
- 7:20So anyway this is meant to be an informative conversation.
- 7:26The class clown, I understand my bad.
- 7:30So anyone that has not gotten into Portal before August 30th
- 7:37Is Now subject to these rules. So, we now have these periods so
- 7:44you cannot enter the portal prior to your respective window.
- 7:50Okay, so let's just start there, gonna get mad my apology for one
- 7:56second. I say none of this starts until
- 8:00till June of this year. Yes, yes, yes.
- 8:03So right now right now, you know whatever you want.
- 8:06Yes, yeah. That right.
- 8:07Yeah. And correct me if I have it
- 8:09wrong it's not that you can't you can you will just suffer
- 8:13punishments if you go in outside of your windows.
- 8:18Yeah not sure. But I've never heard about
- 8:22regulations, I'm sorry not punishments regulations will
- 8:25see. The thing is he I don't think
- 8:27see You can't suffer regulations because you can't put yourself
- 8:30in report, right? That's that's so your to your
- 8:33compliance officer to put you in the portal.
- 8:35So if you try to get the portable for the window, they
- 8:36simply tell you, you can't go ends.
- 8:39Yeah, okay. Yeah, there's there's no,
- 8:41there's no punishment there. Yeah.
- 8:44Now I find it interesting. Please continue.
- 8:47Yeah, that's why I said, yes, now here's something I didn't
- 8:53know. A student-athlete can enter the
- 8:56transfer portal after the window.
- 9:00And you know, if you did not initiate notification to
- 9:06transfer during the application applicable window, you can
- 9:12request to enter transfer portal after the windows closed and up
- 9:16until August, first of the next academic year. okay, so again,
- 9:25I'm digging and it's It's pretty interesting.
- 9:32So let's see, the think the thing is, when you talk about
- 9:34the windows go there, like that, that's one explanation.
- 9:37I'm okay. So you got the false for which
- 9:40is cross-country. You got me a winter sport, which
- 9:42is endure your, and you got the spring tour, which is cross,
- 9:45which is track and field. So, if you feel in, we are, we
- 9:49are encompassed by all three Windows.
- 9:51Absolutely. So, there's the athlete that
- 9:54things if I'm running from a cross country, Runner, if I
- 9:58don't get into in the cross-country window, And I
- 10:01can't get in. Right.
- 10:03So but exactly so what's the truth that matter?
- 10:06Well, the truth is cross has more leeway by, you know, I'd
- 10:13saved by Seventeen eighteen days, was more than that?
- 10:17Because here's the, here's the deal.
- 10:19If you, when you dive into a deeper, see a few across country
- 10:23athlete that has indoor and outdoor eligibility that you
- 10:27don't have to know whatever you want, you can get in, you don't
- 10:30have to I have to get in there until until the outdoor track
- 10:33went down. Something up there, track and
- 10:35now, but if you only, you only have cross-country, then you
- 10:38have to get in the cross country, whether right?
- 10:40Yeah, absolutely. Yes.
- 10:45So, let's see what else I found. So let's just say you withdraw.
- 11:07From your team. Okay.
- 11:10You you walk into coach's office and say hey coach.
- 11:14I'm I quit Okay and whatever ramifications that come with
- 11:20that I'm willing to deal with that.
- 11:23Can you go into the transfer portal at any time?
- 11:28Once you've quit And the answer is no, you still have to wait
- 11:34for the applicable transfer window to to to move on to
- 11:41wherever it is that you want to go.
- 11:45So, withdrawn student-athlete is no longer subject to the
- 11:49notification of transfer process.
- 11:52After one academic year has elapsed.
- 11:56So if it's if it's a bit in a year after they've withdrawn
- 12:02They're they're free, they can do whatever they want.
- 12:05They probably should try to get into Portal at that dog.
- 12:12Yeah, yeah. There's also a student who is
- 12:17enrolled at a university, but has never met the definition of
- 12:22an enrolled student athlete. Do they have to enter the
- 12:27portal? Can they enter outside of the
- 12:32applicable transfer windows? And the answer is yes.
- 12:35So while an individual has never met the enrolled student athlete
- 12:38definition, those who request to be entered may do so.
- 12:44Outside of the applicable transfer window.
- 12:47So, Now, post grads are post grads limited by the same
- 12:58transfer window. Scenario write me a student
- 13:05athlete who's planning to use the remaining Athletics
- 13:08eligibility, as a postgraduate student as an institution other
- 13:12than their current school? Can they initiate the
- 13:18notification of transfer process at any time?
- 13:20The answer is, yes. And that that falls in line with
- 13:27the fact that once you are done with, with your degree, once you
- 13:35have graduated your head coach, no longer has a responsibility
- 13:41to keep you there. If you have a remaining
- 13:44eligibility that head coach can choose to continue to, to You to
- 13:52give you a scholarship or they can say no, we're we're done
- 13:56here. Okay, so that's something that I
- 14:00think quite a few post grads or future post grads need to
- 14:06understand it is not, you know, it's amicable only in the sense
- 14:14that the coach decides to keep you, right?
- 14:23Let's see if I'm missing anything.
- 14:25I will say really quick on the on the post grads.
- 14:28It is also. That's one of those things they
- 14:32like if you're in that scenario, you need to know all the rules
- 14:36because yes it's very true that that the coach no longer has.
- 14:46The. Defined mandate to continue to
- 14:50keep you on scholarship and in school and yada yada.
- 14:53But conversely, the coach also really and truly has zero
- 14:59jurisdiction over you any longer, right?
- 15:01Right. So if you're someplace, you
- 15:03don't want to be and you want to be someplace else within the
- 15:06conference, it used to be the, this one hits home for me
- 15:13because I had to deal with this one in the offices.
- 15:18Now bigley, get your boy is going to try
- 15:40something else, and you decide that you want.
- 15:47Go to another school to do your post-grad.
- 15:52Do you have to use the one-time transfer?
- 15:56And the answer is yes. You will, you will wherever it
- 15:59is. That you go You know now the the
- 16:07factors that kind of eliminate this one-time transfer exception
- 16:11and now that I'm saying this, I'm not understanding why there
- 16:15are athletes that have gone to three and four different
- 16:18institutions. I'm starting to understand the
- 16:21Nuance of Olives, Okay? So The, the factors that
- 16:28eliminate the use of the one-time transfer is, if your
- 16:33head coach departs, Athletics Aid, cancellation reduction, or
- 16:39non-renewal, that that occurs outside of an applicable
- 16:44applicable window for their sport.
- 16:48So you, I mean, at that point, you're free to go and and not,
- 16:53you still have that one-time transfer Extension fact, yes.
- 17:00So that's something that, you know, I mean, that applies to a
- 17:05few individuals, but I think we can probably point to a couple
- 17:09of that we all know that have made.
- 17:13I mean they're true journeyman in the NCAA made the rounds,
- 17:20made the rounds made the rounds. Is an undergrad four-year
- 17:27student athlete required. To enter the NCAA portal during
- 17:31an applicable window for their sport.
- 17:33If they plan to use a four-year transfer exception other than
- 17:37the one-time transfer. Yes you you must comply with the
- 17:45applicable transfer window, you know so that's that's you know,
- 17:54do mid-air transfer provisions. Continue to apply yes, while the
- 17:59meteor transfer may qualify for the one-time transfer.
- 18:01Exception meteor transfer, Provisions will continue to
- 18:07apply a May prohibit certain meteor transfers.
- 18:11And the biggest example is Lamar Baseball baseball.
- 18:18Can we please not go down the baseball Road?
- 18:20Okay, there's no no, listen long time ago and dealing with
- 18:27legislation. I think the one thing that the
- 18:29baseball coaches through in their very much to their favor,
- 18:33the track coaches, never threw in there, it is.
- 18:35You have to be eligible for an entire season.
- 18:39Yes. Right.
- 18:40So like what I'm saying is if you're going to try it you
- 18:43cannot mid-year transfer and All yeah.
- 18:46Under any circumstances. Yep, grad transfer, none of
- 18:50that. Like if you're not on campus
- 18:52like by day, three or whatever, whatever the rule is, if you're
- 18:54not on campus and fully enrolled at the beginning of the school
- 18:58year, you cannot play for that school that year.
- 19:02Yeah. Very nerdy thing for you.
- 19:05But listen, there's a whole bunch of new rules and people
- 19:11are trying to sift their way through them.
- 19:13And I mean you guys are free to Rip me to shreds on this.
- 19:17I don't really think the windows are a big deal.
- 19:20I really don't even think they're all that complicated.
- 19:23I don't think the windows are going to change much of
- 19:25anything. The biggest change moving
- 19:28forward. Is this one a 44?
- 19:33I leave school X and I go to new school.
- 19:36Be all right, a 44 transfer is offered and accepts athletic aid
- 19:41from the new institution. The institution is hired to
- 19:46provide the aid to the transfer until they have either graduated
- 19:50or their athletic eligibility. Clock has expired, whichever
- 19:54occurs first regardless, if they're remaining student
- 19:58athlete, or not. Yes, so cream.
- 20:01Street Thompson doesn't like his situation out at in Texas.
- 20:07He goes up the block and goes to TCU and decides.
- 20:12Once he gets there that my, that Marissa choose an ass.
- 20:15And he don't want to run, no more guess what?
- 20:31That right there. Yep.
- 20:33Is something created for other sports football because it
- 20:38doesn't matter because it's all the same money.
- 20:41Yeah. But trickles down to us.
- 20:44Hitting the non head counts. And that is a serious serious.
- 20:48Serious thing. Absolutely to that the athletes,
- 20:53better start to understand on the flip side of this because
- 20:58the risk that used to make a no-brainer sense.
- 21:02Yeah. Bring them in whatever.
- 21:04We'll see is now, like, do we really want to do this?
- 21:09Because if it doesn't work, if you are freshmen, And you
- 21:12transfer in as a sophomore and it don't work.
- 21:15I gotta eat your scholarship for three to four years.
- 21:18Yeah, guaranteed. Oh no.
- 21:21That's a that's a hell of a risk.
- 21:24Yeah. And so that to me is the biggest
- 21:29baddest, most interesting change and that is the thing that the
- 21:34NCAA has put in place to try to slow this thing down because
- 21:39let's not get it twisted. The the Transfer portal.
- 21:42Genies never going back in the box, that's here to stay.
- 21:45So now, it's how can we mitigate it?
- 21:47How can we slow it down? How can we make people think
- 21:51twice? That's the one.
- 21:54That's the only one. Yeah, so, they're their various
- 21:58schools of thought, you know. And I think that, you know, I
- 22:02mean, we touched on this, if athlete X, is that good, you're
- 22:09going to recruit athlete X period. um and the, you know,
- 22:16the things that we the intangibles, the things that
- 22:20we've got to kind of read between the lines and you know
- 22:23when we have when we sit down and break bread with these
- 22:26athletes and go through that process you know and how many
- 22:33times and I've how many how many of these coaches that are
- 22:38watching this athlete leave are actually going Oof.
- 22:43All right, glad that's off my plate you know, but at the same
- 22:47time they're saying yeah athlete X is absolutely the best, you
- 22:53know, shows up every day never late great work ethic that's
- 22:58those are things that you know those are the nuances that you
- 23:01kind of have to work through and you kind of have to read between
- 23:03the lines. Now there is there are two
- 23:10aspects where Are the aid can be reduced or canceled and that's
- 23:15if the athlete decides to transfer again.
- 23:19And then the other one is, if they lose, amateur status.
- 23:23Sure. Right.
- 23:25Which normal stuff normally stuff.
- 23:29Now can you cancel the aid of an undergrad?
- 23:33Serious misconduct? Yes it's all normal.
- 23:37Yeah yes you know so those those are you know those are we
- 23:44talking about far out things that Would that would mitigate,
- 23:49you know, having to be on the hook for, for the scholarship.
- 23:58So if here's another one, if the athlete is rendered
- 24:02academically, ineligible Can you cancel has eight?
- 24:06No. No.
- 24:08You know about that problem? That's your problem.
- 24:11You cannot and that was a very interesting one, right?
- 24:13Yeah, it is. That one's a very interesting
- 24:15one because it used to be that that was you got out of it.
- 24:20That's how you got out of it so you got out of it.
- 24:22Yes. Yeah that's what I'm saying.
- 24:25Like you going to eat these mistakes.
- 24:28Yep. Yep.
- 24:29Yep. Yep.
- 24:31So I mean yes. I mean when you've got 85 Chips.
- 24:36I mean you you can afford to miss on one or two or ten, I
- 24:42mean, as it is on every roster. If you, if you were to see pu P
- 24:50list from the average football team, I mean, I remember seeing
- 24:56one at Alabama and it blew I think it was at 25.
- 25:02There were 25 kids down. That physically were unable to
- 25:08play. And it's just, we just keep
- 25:12going like, look scholarships and their travel limitations, or
- 25:21like 50-something, yeah, right? You already know.
- 25:25There's 30 people stay at home. Every time they travel yet are
- 25:28all full scholarships now, like, like, let's not like be at any
- 25:32of this nonsense, because the truth of the matter, whether
- 25:34you're hurt, you can't go, you're not ready.
- 25:36Whatever it is. They like, I'm not trying to be
- 25:38funny if You're not in the first 53 or 56 or whatever.
- 25:42The number is, The Travelers like football coach doesn't
- 25:44care. Yes, but not in a bad way of
- 25:46just saying like You don't affect the bottom line, one
- 25:50more, the other whatever reason that that is is not relevant to
- 25:54them. Now, here's here's another one
- 25:58main institution, cancel atletic say, diff an undergrad for your
- 26:01transfer fails to n Roll. Think about that Bales to enroll
- 26:08for a regular academic term. You cannot, no no, you cannot
- 26:15It's so if you're not processing that because first time you hear
- 26:19it, it's weird. It's weird because I recruit
- 26:22athlete ex to come to my school January.
- 26:26Yes, for whatever reason they decide they don't are not
- 26:31getting rolled in January, or they forgot or they miss the
- 26:35deadline. Whatever, I still gotta eat the
- 26:39money until they show up next fall.
- 26:42Exactly. It's correct.
- 26:47It's kind of crazy. It's kind of crazy.
- 26:51So I mean, I I'm going to stop there, you know, because I feel
- 26:57like that that aspect of the transfer portal is, you know, I
- 27:03think if you look at it, it's literally going to appeal to
- 27:08that kid, right to that kid. That's thinking, you know what,
- 27:13I don't know how much I want to. Continue doing this anyway, but
- 27:17I need to, I need to play the game until, you know, I decided
- 27:21I just want to go to class and not have to deal with six am
- 27:25practice and all of that. So, did you guys have any other
- 27:30questions, anything that I didn't touch on or anything
- 27:33that? You know that you want to know?
- 27:40No no no I think there's some lingering questions.
- 27:49Yeah. Oh well the the other one that's
- 27:53that I think is pertinent is the idea of giving a multi-year
- 27:58contract here. You're saying okay we're going
- 28:02to start you here and then year to will start here Can't do
- 28:06that. You can you cannot do that.
- 28:10Nope. You know, so there is no trial
- 28:13period that you could do with a regular regular undergrad kid.
- 28:18That's there for the first time. You can't play that game and
- 28:21say, yeah, well, we'll try, we'll give you a shot this time.
- 28:24And then, if it works out, then year to, which I found to be an
- 28:30interesting distinction, because, of course, I can just
- 28:33sign cream for ten percent up front.
- 28:35Yes. Willing to come.
- 28:36You know, Got that, that juice that somehow.
- 28:41Now I can, he won't come to come through this 10%.
- 28:44And then, you know, the next year, I could decide to give it
- 28:47more if ever, but I just can't say it in advance.
- 28:50You can't say it in advance. No, that's what I thought you
- 28:53could. You can advance a it increases.
- 28:56You just can't in advance it decreases.
- 28:59Yes. Right.
- 29:01You can't set it up in the - if you are, right?
- 29:05You can set it up in the positive, you can say that.
- 29:07It's going to be don't pay up front and take it away.
- 29:09Any percent this year at 85 and make sure, but you can't say
- 29:12it's 80 and then like some schools are doing 80 and then 0.
- 29:16Yes. Yeah.
- 29:18And for the record, we are not one of those schools as well as
- 29:26schools are getting around that. That have an IL abilities is
- 29:31your first year, they sign UT the nothing, and all ni l or,
- 29:34you know, 10 percent or whatever it is and the rest.
- 29:37Jun-il. And the thought process is as
- 29:43the following year when money freeze up, we're going to move
- 29:47you to this and blah blah blah but they're not culpable Today,
- 29:52l piece, right? So when you're not good that
- 29:54first year and you show up thinking you're going to be on
- 29:59you know, 40/60 split now. No.
- 30:06The the point of all of this to me is really quite simple, new
- 30:11games, beget new games. And that's all this ultimately
- 30:15is. It's a new game transfer portal
- 30:19was game one. Then everybody started whining
- 30:22on the administrative, and coaching side.
- 30:24So they came up with new game two, again, it's not going away.
- 30:29So the smart people will figure out how to play the game to
- 30:32their advantage and the smart kids.
- 30:35I will do the same and they're going to be a lot of upset
- 30:39people in the middle because, you know, desperation creates
- 30:44bad decisions. Yeah.
- 30:45On all sides athlete and Coach. So I find most interesting about
- 30:51the landscape that we're in now, right?
- 30:53Is that each sport manipulates the manipulates uses the rules
- 31:01to their advantage in a different way, right?
- 31:04All of this group Rules affects football, basketball, baseball
- 31:08and track differently. And you see different things
- 31:12right in baseball. The grad transfer piece is the
- 31:15big deal, right? Because now you have an
- 31:18opportunity to have a really old team, right?
- 31:21And so, you know how it affects then the youngsters that you
- 31:24recruited when they were 15 and you got them committed to come
- 31:27to your school and now they show up as freshmen.
- 31:29Oh, you forgot the existed because you got a 22 and a 23
- 31:32year old kid play in the front of them.
- 31:34Like that's how I it plays out so much like in baseball and
- 31:39basketball, both the transfer portal and the grad tree and the
- 31:43grad transfers are kind of used Differently depending on where
- 31:50you're at scope some schools, who have usually have three and
- 31:53four-year-old teams. Right there using the grad
- 31:57transfers because they could come in and they play well with
- 32:00the older team, right? The, the teams that usually turn
- 32:04over every two years because they got, they got one and dones
- 32:08there in the transfer portal. That guy that was supposed to be
- 32:11a one and done at a school and it wasn't nice.
- 32:14Going to come to my school, that produces one and dones.
- 32:16And you're going to be a to So it's very interesting.
- 32:21It's interesting. Like the landscape is a I'll say
- 32:23this is definitely more interesting.
- 32:24Now as a as an outsider it is more interesting to see.
- 32:28Now here's one, I mean this is this is like and and now I'll I
- 32:34don't know if you guys have seen this because I'm there's a
- 32:37document that literally has. I mean a multitude of Q eggs,
- 32:43right? And it's like they sat there.
- 32:48R and literally went through every possible scenario.
- 32:52They did. Miranda dance for instance, May
- 32:56and undergraduate. Four-year transfer students of
- 33:00athlete absolve. The institution of the
- 33:03obligation to provide Athletics, aged, listen to that question.
- 33:09Right. You student-athlete go.
- 33:11Hey you know what? It's okay.
- 33:13I don't I don't need it. The answer is no, the answer is
- 33:17no. Trip to a lot of these rules are
- 33:35to protect the student athlete. Absolutely.
- 33:38They are, you know, if we're going to be honest, right?
- 33:42They are all theoretically to protect the student athlete
- 33:48true, right? Just unfortunately.
- 33:52And this is kind of part of the issue, right?
- 33:53Like A great number of student athletes.
- 33:56Don't know this game, right? So they're plant.
- 34:00They like, they think they're playing, you know, Checkers and
- 34:03they're getting, they get beaten games of Parcheesi and chest and
- 34:07everything else because there's a lot of stuff going on that
- 34:09they don't really realize is going on.
- 34:11Yeah. Right?
- 34:14Well, because they don't think of worst-case scenarios.
- 34:19So then, let's get there, let's let's change the lane smidgen.
- 34:25What are two things that student athletes, who are considering
- 34:30Oh, what are two things student athletes should consider?
- 34:34When thinking about getting in the Border or when they've
- 34:36already gotten in the world? We, well, they shouldn't that
- 34:41once they got into portray can't think anymore, right?
- 34:43Think is done? Yeah, so I mean for me I think
- 34:54that I think at some point in time you would think that it's
- 34:59going to slow down a little bit. I don't think that it's ever
- 35:01going away, but I think that if I'm giving somebody advice for
- 35:06this my child I'm going to have them, explore the academic side
- 35:11of it and what what credits are going to transfer and there's
- 35:17going to be required, more work to the institution.
- 35:19You're going to, does the institution have the same
- 35:22academic structure and support that your current institution
- 35:26has and although whatever school you're thinking, you might want
- 35:32to go to might be better for you.
- 35:38What's the climate was? What's the atmosphere?
- 35:41So to speak there? And will you really be
- 35:43successful there? I think that a lot of people
- 35:47jump into the transfer portal and they get theirs, like, man,
- 35:49it went so bad, where I was. Yeah, this isn't always greener.
- 35:55Brown is it is over here? Are we okay?
- 35:59We're doing 22 points. Are we going?
- 36:01He's gay. Are we going around the circle?
- 36:06Yes. Go ahead.
- 36:07Glad I mean, first of all, lucious's academic point is
- 36:15extremely underrated. Yeah.
- 36:17Okay. So y'all might want to really
- 36:21Really, really look into that because you're not wild to
- 36:24y'all, the number of kids that could jump in the port, or
- 36:27consider, go on the portal and literally never consider the
- 36:30academic piece. It's not wild to me at all
- 36:33because because it's wild that it, that no one considers it.
- 36:39But it's not wild to me. That that's the reality.
- 36:41Because the truth of the matter is, these people are making
- 36:44usually emotional decisions, emotional decision, and they're
- 36:48all centered around the sport. Yes.
- 36:51Yes. So to them, school is school is
- 36:53school. I'm gonna get my degree wherever
- 36:55I'm going to get it. Yeah, but there's like addition
- 36:58and subtraction and timelines. Right?
- 37:01So very underrated point there and I hope people hold on to
- 37:05that one but I guess my two would be, my first one would be
- 37:11Know your value, because 90% of the people in the portal are not
- 37:16nearly as valuable as they think they are when they go in.
- 37:20And that reality smacks them in the face all the time.
- 37:25Hmm. Like what do you mean?
- 37:27I was on full scholarship. At my old school, I was on 85%
- 37:32at my old school. You mean you're only going to
- 37:34offer me 20? Well yeah, there's there's
- 37:39numbers here. There's performances here.
- 37:41There's did you show up in the big races here?
- 37:44There's you didn't score any points in that conference and
- 37:47our conference is better. There is like You have to
- 37:51actually understand your value in the same exact way, though,
- 37:55with way different Stakes that a free agent in a prospective Pro
- 38:00Sport does MHM. I mean, Dennis Schroder was
- 38:04offered 80-something million dollars by the Los Angeles
- 38:08Lakers. He said, no because he thought
- 38:11he was more valuable. And then a year later, he's back
- 38:14on the team. For three million, three
- 38:16million. Like come on, man.
- 38:19Like you have To know your actual value in what you're
- 38:22doing and most of these people don't.
- 38:25So I would seriously research your value and our sport is so
- 38:32wide open and transparent on the numbers that it really shouldn't
- 38:36be that hard to figure it out. But What's funny is it?
- 38:41Most cases, they don't do that on the front side either you
- 38:43have coming out of high school Bastian question.
- 38:47Like what do you guys mean? I do maybe I'm suggesting say
- 38:49you guys were what do you mean by our sport is so wide open and
- 38:53transparent that people should know that their values.
- 38:59Okay, so numbers are numbers. Like it's it is enough now that
- 39:07you guys have put out your various points.
- 39:12Excellent, excellent points. What what stuck out to me is.
- 39:20So let's, let's, let's touch on the know your value, right?
- 39:26What is what is important to you?
- 39:31Okay. So is winning a Conference USA
- 39:35title and helping a team when a Conference USA title.
- 39:42Okay and walking out of your Athletics career with title
- 39:49winner by your name, is that as valuable to you as it would be
- 39:58to go to an SEC school, right? Or a big 12 school, or a Pac-12
- 40:03school, and be a relay runner for the rest of your life, for
- 40:08the rest of your career. Is it is it enough to say that?
- 40:14Hey, I made it to the big leagues.
- 40:17I'm on the squad. I am doing this as opposed to, I
- 40:22have Hardware, right? And and I'm not the, I think
- 40:28we've now entered a world now where we are past the point of
- 40:35or of downplaying, the everybody gets a trophy, all of that,
- 40:39okay? Okay, we are in that generation.
- 40:42We are in that world, right? And it's interesting to me to
- 40:49see the subsection of athletes that see value in walking out of
- 40:55there are legal going through their career and finishing their
- 40:58career with multiple titles, multiple rings and wherever that
- 41:04happens. Okay, they decide to go into the
- 41:08workplace, they decide to whatever and that's on their
- 41:11resume. That is a big deal.
- 41:15Right. They're not going to care where
- 41:17you did this right now. There's also, there's also the
- 41:23mindset that I need bigger and better and Greener, right?
- 41:28And, and, you know, I'm coming from a non power 5 and their
- 41:33small fries to me, right? So I need to go, I need to go to
- 41:38the big time, right? And I'm only speaking from the
- 41:43standpoint of Of what, you know what I'm experiencing on this
- 41:47end and it's just shocking because, you know, the the
- 41:54athletes that I'm talking about are willing to take very little
- 41:58money just to say there on that roster.
- 42:04And they're feeling like that is actually going to add to their
- 42:08value. now, whether they actually contribute You kind of
- 42:16have to wonder, like, do you see what these numbers are?
- 42:21Do you see what the standard is, right?
- 42:25And do you does that, is it in your head?
- 42:28To think? Okay, I'm going to improve by
- 42:32two feet and in the triple I'm going to improve by, you know,
- 42:36half a second and 100, right? Those are things that, you know.
- 42:41I really, you know, if I'm talking Talking to someone and
- 42:45I'm saying okay you need to think about when it's all said
- 42:51and done. Okay.
- 42:54What is it that you want out of this experience?
- 42:58What is it that you want to have?
- 43:00You know, you to be represented by And that's, that's something
- 43:05that it's not an easy conversation.
- 43:08Because for some, some might take that assaying.
- 43:11Well, man, like you just tell him to take the easy route And
- 43:15I'm like, no because you still have to compete against the same
- 43:19people at first round, you still have to line up and if you do
- 43:24make it to Nationals, you still have to line up against the same
- 43:26people. The question is, how do you want
- 43:30to get there? Right.
- 43:32And that's the part that, you know, I, you know, I would
- 43:36really challenge someone to think long and hard about I
- 43:42think people i-i'm sorry I will be remiss and very I don't know,
- 43:50almost disrespectful. If I did not tell him that the
- 43:53governor you just went around the block like three times and I
- 43:58missed all of it. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 44:36The intrinsic value of winning. It is intrinsically, and
- 44:44outwardly better to win handle at a level that it is to
- 44:50participate at a higher level. It just is.
- 44:54Yeah. That doesn't, that doesn't mean
- 44:56that you look. There are people who should
- 44:59change levels. There are people, who should
- 45:01they ended up? They were at amid nature, and no
- 45:04longer are being challenged to mid-major, right?
- 45:06I need to be at the power five hundred percent.
- 45:09Yes, that's just wasting their know.
- 45:11Members say it's their numbers and their performances against
- 45:15the power 5 saying, yes, right? Right, there's just far fewer
- 45:19people than there are in that are in the portal that think
- 45:23that. And so, we're talking about the
- 45:25Forty to fifty percent that are still in the portal facts and
- 45:29their one. Why?
- 45:31Yeah. So I'm in a unique position,
- 45:35right? Having having been, one of you
- 45:38wonderful people, and now being something Is allowed in the
- 45:41sport of baseball that isn't allowed necessarily in the sport
- 45:44of track is being an advisor. So the conversation that we wish
- 45:49we could have a track athletes. I actually have the baseball
- 45:52players, like I said to one of my pictures, if you go to this
- 45:56school, you have a chance to pitch on the weekend which is
- 45:59when everybody comes to scout. If you go to that school, you're
- 46:02going to pitch on Wednesday. Yep.
- 46:05Does it mean you can't get drafted for being a Wednesday
- 46:07guy? It's just way harder.
- 46:09Yeah. I mean, like wait.
- 46:11Harder. Because you're always going to
- 46:12have to answer the question. What if you're that good while
- 46:14you catch my one second, right? Right.
- 46:16And so, like that's a real conversation that that you can
- 46:20have at, that's a real conversation, you can have.
- 46:24And that's what that you, you could have somebody at wrap up
- 46:27because the job doesn't exist. Nobody really trust that
- 46:32information, but I could give the same amount information to
- 46:34track people like, listen, I'm not saying that you don't belong
- 46:37in the SEC. What you belong to the job, you
- 46:39belong. At, in the SEC is different than
- 46:44the job that you currently have in the meac.
- 46:47Hmm, right. It doesn't mean that, you know,
- 46:49you gotta you got a job at both places one place, you're on the
- 46:53CEO track the other place your hourly worker.
- 46:56Yeah, just punching the clock. So so for me, the two things
- 47:00that I would, I would suggest and I would I would almost
- 47:03demand student athletes. Take the time to do before they
- 47:07get in the portal was one. Take time to make an unemotional
- 47:15decision. Yeah.
- 47:18Like literally take all of the emotion out of decision and make
- 47:22it a transactional. Black-and-white fact found
- 47:26decision, right? Because I think if that
- 47:30happened, fifty percent of people, the portal wouldn't be
- 47:32in the portal. That's first two and I think
- 47:35this one is equally as important.
- 47:37Do your Homework, do not get recruited again, right?
- 47:46Because in most cases, like, the whole reason you're leaving, is
- 47:48because the recruiting pitch, didn't turn out.
- 47:51Yeah, either on your side or theirs.
- 47:54Yes. Right.
- 47:55So don't don't be stupid and get recruited again, right?
- 47:59Like it speaks to clients whole like know your value.
- 48:03Well, you don't, you need to know your value and your place
- 48:06in the whole Pantheon of this sport, right?
- 48:09So don't get Sorry recruited. Look at why a school is
- 48:12recruiting you other recruiting you so you don't go someplace
- 48:15that you could be more successful.
- 48:17Like is this defense? Well Lamar like let's let's add
- 48:22to that. The majority of these kids that
- 48:24are getting in a portal, most likely signed blindly Due to
- 48:30covid. And that that part of it's fair
- 48:34that part of his fair. But there's a lot of there's a
- 48:36whole lot of sing don't know for sure.
- 48:39Then again and I will also say this for our so there's Juniors
- 48:43right? The ones that were high school
- 48:45seniors that yes covid. You they are now Juniors and I
- 48:48got I have two or three of those guys that, you know, I've been
- 48:51asked a bunch of people like, you know, they're being scouted
- 48:55at this point in time with, why were they at this school of why
- 48:58they go this route? I was like, because their senior
- 49:00year didn't exist. Yeah.
- 49:01Yeah, I mean I'm I'll say this. I've actually had conversations
- 49:06with kids at told me that they're literally living her
- 49:11second childhood during this process literally enjoying being
- 49:17courted because they never were you know, and yeah and that's
- 49:22but that's not a reason no. But but that is a very specific,
- 49:27yes. Who that particular group of
- 49:30people because of that time. Mine and acts like, oh, great.
- 49:33So I totally understand that. I am sure that my internet
- 49:38knocked out in the middle of my second point, but it's funny
- 49:42that Lamar just said what he said because it wasn't that.
- 49:47But it was in that it was in that respect, right?
- 49:50It's like it was. You did this dog and pony show
- 49:54Once mmm-hmm. So my advice would be When
- 49:58you're going through with the second time, focus on what
- 50:02you've learned about this business and don't get caught up
- 50:05in the hype of recruiting. Yes.
- 50:08Yeah, because so many people sell the height and there's a
- 50:14difference between selling, you know, something flashy and
- 50:19showing the production of what you do at a school and I it
- 50:25blows my mind that some people want It to be courted so badly
- 50:29as you put it. Yeah it they get hyped.
- 50:32They get hyped twice. Absolutely.
- 50:37It goes my mind. The number of people who fall
- 50:39for the for the record. Yes, twice, yes.
- 50:45Yeah, you know, I, it always makes me laugh.
- 50:47And you know, I see kids talking about they're leaving this
- 50:50school because they want to go pro and the next school that
- 50:53they're that they're interested in is give them a better
- 50:56opportunity at that. And then I'm the At the says,
- 50:58okay, well, how many pro athletes does that coach have?
- 51:02How many pro athletes has that coach produced and the aunt?
- 51:06And and like I don't even care what the answer is, what blows
- 51:08my mind is the answer I get back is I don't know how, yeah, how
- 51:15are you trying to go pro? But you, but you don't do the
- 51:19research to find out like whether that program produces
- 51:22program that goes beyond their poster, athletes that train at
- 51:25that place while you answering your phone.
- 51:28It's right there. It's right there.
- 51:30None of this stuff is hidden. Yeah.
- 51:34But I mean, hey, I was a transfer athlete.
- 51:38All right. I was just really went South
- 51:41Carolina, considered a few other schools in between there.
- 51:46The second time around, it was boring.
- 51:50It was all about business. Yeah.
- 51:52You know what I mean? And you can still mess up and
- 51:55make poor choices in that, right?
- 51:56But the height piece of it, you should be able to, you know,
- 52:02call up the coach, huh, fins, like coach.
- 52:06This is what I know about your program.
- 52:08This is what I've done. This is what I'm trying to do.
- 52:11This is where I see myself within your team.
- 52:13Is this something you want to be interested in with me?
- 52:17What's it looking like, like don't all the extra stuff.
- 52:21You don't need all that. Yeah.
- 52:25To did you have any advice? Spence address, I mean
- 52:36anything's, but the academic piece is so huge knowing where
- 52:43you want to land and what you need to do in order to be in
- 52:46that institution, right? Being at the institution that I
- 52:49might Now versus the last two that I've been at the apartments
- 52:53are so different, and even just entertaining some of these
- 52:56conversations. So it's not going to be a
- 53:00frustrating. Because you're talking about a
- 53:06and I'm talking about be and you can't even hear the conversation
- 53:09about, because you're so stuck about telling me about a, you
- 53:12know, there's currently conversations going on.
- 53:15Like, I know I can help miss that in there.
- 53:17And you see these holes. Awesome.
- 53:19I'm glad you see them, but you can't even get into our school.
- 53:22Yeah, right. And so, that and understanding,
- 53:26not even the institutional requirements, but PT deeper
- 53:30that, I know there's a lot of letters to your progress towards
- 53:33degree per, the NCAA regulations.
- 53:36Can we just stop right there for one second?
- 53:37That's the part right there. Yeah.
- 53:40That when I talk about things that student athlete, as you can
- 53:43actually get accepted and still that is the part that student
- 53:48athletes are the worst about is understanding ptd and how it
- 53:54works. Yep, and I'll even see some
- 53:57coaches. Oh, absolutely, absolutely.
- 54:03Like, it is so easy to be eligible, anywhere for a
- 54:06semester. Yeah.
- 54:08It is in that same school. You could be, it could be
- 54:12borderline impossible to be eligible thereafter.
- 54:15Yes. And that's where the new
- 54:17legislation comes in the hand because for the benefit of the
- 54:21athlete, they're good. And they might they might be the
- 54:25one who actually knows this. Uh-huh.
- 54:27And if your academic team, In your athletic academic team were
- 54:31compliance team isn't first enough they're not going to
- 54:34prevent that. Yeah, I know to prevent that you
- 54:37know and so it's there's so many layers but that that's the
- 54:41biggest thing for me right now in in maneuvering, in the portal
- 54:45that we the way we are. It's like man, you know, you can
- 54:49manipulate something but there are some things you just can't
- 54:52undo and so that's the only your transcripts.
- 54:56Look like the Goof of that particular issue is You know
- 55:01Stanford or something aside right?
- 55:04Almost any school The athletic department can push a button or
- 55:10pick up a phone and get you accepted into the university
- 55:14that has absolutely nothing to do with.
- 55:16Are you eligible right on here? Not at all Gainesville.
- 55:28You know what? I'm going to give you a
- 55:30different kind of digital. So here's another scenario that
- 55:53I people don't understand how you can be a transfer A student
- 55:56who's an eligible in the fall, but you can get eligible in the
- 56:01spring when the work you do in the fall.
- 56:04So you can get admitted to school but there's no button to
- 56:08push people staring game. Yeah, but not for the track and
- 56:13field program. Black debacle is this one, kid X
- 56:23transfers mid-year to school y, right?
- 56:30Because of a very at various Myriad of things, they are out.
- 56:35They are leaving the school eligible and they are going to
- 56:38be eligible at the next school for that semester, but as soon
- 56:42as that semester is over, It is very evident that there's going
- 56:48to need to be a lot of prayer and you becoming a whole
- 56:54different students in you ever been to be eligible the
- 56:58following year. Yeah.
- 56:59Right. Because you as student as
- 57:03student X have no idea how many credits you even allowed to take
- 57:08in summer school or how many are allowed to count towards ptd.
- 57:13Yeah, that's right. Yeah, because those know, The
- 57:17issue there isn't the student athlete.
- 57:19They issued their is said coach in compliance and academic team
- 57:24that doesn't present this to the to nothing before it was he that
- 57:26doesn't happen on Mike and I agree.
- 57:29So I think we all agree with that.
- 57:45Your job of adulting, right? But it is still your job as the
- 57:51transferring student, to understand where and what
- 57:57progress towards degree is if for no other reason that all you
- 58:01care about is running and you want to make sure you could be
- 58:03eligible, like that is the people that have the information
- 58:10on the people that are signing. So if the people that are
- 58:14signing you and telling you, you're fine, Fine.
- 58:16See, I know of an institution that allowed an athlete to come
- 58:20to the school. They sign them, they got in
- 58:23there. The athlete competed in a like
- 58:26whoa. We got PD T.
- 58:31TD problem only affects for the record wasn't on this campus.
- 58:35Yeah, but that happens all the time.
- 58:41You have to eschew, that's an Integrity issue on that campus,
- 58:51right? That is at that is I will do
- 58:54anything to win issue and that's why I couldn't agree with you
- 58:57more. And I still say As much as I
- 59:00agree with you because that world exists as a student
- 59:04athlete is still your job to know what you're supposed to
- 59:07know. Like, I agree with you.
- 59:08Like, like, how do you know that when the people that are telling
- 59:11you are the people that are in charge of that are saying,
- 59:14you're good? How you supposed to know, well,
- 59:16okay. So what they still have your
- 59:18numbers, right? Like now you transfer, okay,
- 59:20what I'm saying is this, when you transfer, they have to tell
- 59:24you, how many of your credits are going to transfer You have
- 59:28to know that it's right. Okay.
- 59:30It's so if you it's real, simple math, if this is how many are
- 59:34going to transfer and I'm going to be eligible here.
- 59:37How many credits do I have to have to be eligible next year,
- 59:42right? Okay.
- 59:43Well, if that number is 20, Did you gotta understand?
- 59:49That means you got to take six in the summer and 14 in the
- 59:51spring and pass them all. Yes, if you can't take nine.
- 59:56Minimum was so he did 12 think that they can do in the
- 1:00:02summertime. I think the EP will like my
- 1:00:06phrasing of this. It's one of those situations in
- 1:00:08life as it pertains to the student-athlete where it's not
- 1:00:12your fault, but it is your problem, facts.
- 1:00:15Yes, yes. I've seen that too many times,
- 1:00:20coach lied or didn't understand the worst compliance slide or
- 1:00:25didn't understand because there's layers.
- 1:00:27Right. This is Paul to Lucius this
- 1:00:29point. It is the school's fault.
- 1:00:32Absolutely it is the adults fault hundred percent.
- 1:00:36I couldn't agree with you more solutions?
- 1:00:37Yeah, absolutely. But what Clyde is dead-on with
- 1:00:41what I was trying to say If you're going to be the one
- 1:00:44that's going to deal with the ramifications of it, then it is
- 1:00:47going to be your problem. So if it's gonna be your problem
- 1:00:51at the end of the day it's still be who's you to know as much of
- 1:00:56this process as possible, right? And when you're continually
- 1:01:00transform because ptd may sound scary but ultimately all it is.
- 1:01:06Is basic arithmetic. Yes.
- 1:01:08You should be able to figure that out 12:24.
- 1:01:13Okay, what's in it? It's a until the math.
- 1:01:17To everybody's Point here. It's the biggest issue is you
- 1:01:21have people that don't know. The people that think that
- 1:01:26there's a way to skirt said rules and then they do whatever
- 1:01:30they have to do to get said athlete into the institution and
- 1:01:34then they get them there and then it's like, oh, by the way,
- 1:01:37I was wrong. Yeah, because of an athlete
- 1:01:40wants to be someplace so bad. They'll Whatever doesn't get
- 1:01:43when went coach says, hey you're fine, don't worry about, I got
- 1:01:47you. All right.
- 1:01:48Well, how about this scenario athlete X is an engineer at?
- 1:01:55It's always engine or first, as always engineering, I know it
- 1:02:00transfers to school. Why Credits don't transfer over
- 1:02:06there telling him hey you're going to have to do agriculture
- 1:02:10studies if you're going to be eligible here.
- 1:02:13Yep what what is that worth to you?
- 1:02:18And and that is real. You for and I don't know about
- 1:02:24about the rest of y'all, but I don't I don't understand why an
- 1:02:30institution would not accept credits from another
- 1:02:35institution. I mean, who knows how its
- 1:02:40academic ego. It's just that's 100% all having
- 1:02:45worked at some of those schools. Yes, like the cows, the Georgia
- 1:02:49Tech's awake forces of the world.
- 1:02:51Academic ego, right? Like algae, what is bruh?
- 1:02:54Yeah, but it ain't algebra, which I mentioned equations.
- 1:02:57Is differential equations. Is it ain't it ain't those
- 1:02:59classes. Do you talk about math?
- 1:03:01Math is math, math is always method.
- 1:03:03But trust me when I tell you they're like if you take if you
- 1:03:07could come from a liberal arts school like a place like Wake
- 1:03:10Forest and you transfer to a place, like, Georgia Tech may be
- 1:03:13nothing that you took transfers. It's crazy because one school is
- 1:03:17speaking English. The other school speaking
- 1:03:18Spanish and I had they don't respect.
- 1:03:21Gangster in that. Just is what it is.
- 1:03:22I've, it's acts, it's absolutely academic hubris because true
- 1:03:28story. I'll leave II was at a lesser
- 1:03:32School academically and my people told me that the UCLA
- 1:03:39credits didn't transfer, and I almost lost my mind.
- 1:03:43Because I said, now, look, I'm not here to stand up for UCLA,
- 1:03:48but depending on what you want to read, it's either the number
- 1:03:50one. Or number two, you have look
- 1:03:52institution in the country in the country in the world and we
- 1:03:56are a public institution. So, how you telling me there are
- 1:03:59classes are is good. You like that.
- 1:04:02Doesn't make any sense to me. So, how how do you get that
- 1:04:06Intel before, right? How do you do that?
- 1:04:10And that's, that's a very hard question, and it's, and I think
- 1:04:15to be, to be fair, I don't think this is something that's rented,
- 1:04:18you know, it's probably not. What it is but it's definitely
- 1:04:22something that needs to be thought about it needs to be
- 1:04:24addressed because you know there have been people that wanted to
- 1:04:27transfer before and they, you know, wasn't the portal at the
- 1:04:30time and it they put themselves out there and then they realize
- 1:04:33Jesus, I can only study eligible where I am.
- 1:04:37You know, I've had that conversation with people.
- 1:04:39Like you can't come here. You got to stay where you are
- 1:04:41because you go anywhere you're not eligible.
- 1:04:43Yeah. You greater good enough.
- 1:04:45Because a lot of the times it's tough to won't transfer is not
- 1:04:48because in the class itself is the grade you got in there.
- 1:04:51Yes. Yes, some days, there's some
- 1:04:54schools that won't take seeds as rising.
- 1:04:59You need to know who you want to transfer.
- 1:05:01Take sees these. Yes you've got those things on
- 1:05:05your transcript. Exact to ask that question.
- 1:05:07And you need to know that. Yeah, right just that's if
- 1:05:11you're at the minimum Chances are, you are going to have
- 1:05:16problems if you are a 24 or 48 and you are thinking, all of
- 1:05:22that is going to transfer over. Think again, say it's an essay,
- 1:05:25in the problem you had is, I believe the way that the
- 1:05:28reporter is structured, now is if you go into the portal, your
- 1:05:33Aid can't be taken immediately but it can be canceled for the
- 1:05:36next year. Yeah hmm.
- 1:05:38So so the issue you have here is once you go into the portal
- 1:05:42School All dream, may not be your dream anymore because it
- 1:05:47becomes a nightmare when you can't get into school day.
- 1:05:49Yes. So now what you have to do is go
- 1:05:52to school Plan, B, C, D and E to find someplace.
- 1:05:56You can go get a degree and still have a successful career.
- 1:05:59So damn, see I think the big thing for me is that I think
- 1:06:02what the transfer Port is created, is just there's no
- 1:06:05sense of loyalty, there's no sense of you know me stick this
- 1:06:09out for a year and see if I can make it work.
- 1:06:11Now for you Clastic stick-to-itiveness.
- 1:06:15This is Zach was none of that. It's like, hey, I'm having a bad
- 1:06:17time, you're out, I'm out. Yeah.
- 1:06:20You know, I ran 47 flat, nice, cool, and Iran 46 to this year.
- 1:06:25That's not fast enough about it. Yeah, or the guy that you know
- 1:06:29Pace. Let's really fast on a relay and
- 1:06:31everybody in the country thinks he's the best called modern to
- 1:06:33play it now, Idol or wealthy. Here we go.
- 1:06:46Well, give thanks for the the pettiness that was just released
- 1:06:51forgive, you know, ii-i'm trying to see.
- 1:06:55That's, that's y'all's fault. I wasn't like this for us are
- 1:06:58hanging out, right. I take no responsibility.
- 1:07:16I enjoy you listen to the words but the question is actually a
- 1:07:27very good question and it was taken and we're going to
- 1:07:32interpret and gives them to it. What is the bigger Gap?
- 1:07:38I'm major Blueblood D ones and low Major D ones.
- 1:07:43Or low Major, D ones and high, Major D tubes, where does the
- 1:07:48bigger gap? Stand, d, 1 to d 1.
- 1:07:51I do go ahead key with the with the given caveat that it depends
- 1:08:02on what level of prospect of prosperity.
- 1:08:08You were trying to achieve inevitably.
- 1:08:11So with that gut with that That caveat stated I don't think
- 1:08:15there's any doubt that there is a Grand Canyon size gap between
- 1:08:22will call it power 5, whatever that is is it's not just power
- 1:08:26fives. But what that level and this
- 1:08:31level? And I mean, the description was
- 1:08:32the Blue Bloods, right? Yes.
- 1:08:35So, so this is between the blue blood like that Gap.
- 1:08:43Is the size of the Grand Canyon. The truth of the matter is, The
- 1:08:51gap between the mid major and the top third of the D2, there
- 1:08:58isn't a gap. It's just the number of them
- 1:09:01that's on your team. Yeah, right.
- 1:09:04That's right that because if you take the, if you take the, if
- 1:09:08you take the good kid, right? Like the conference fourth,
- 1:09:12place type kid at at the mid-major I don't.
- 1:09:16Is that what I'm saying? The kids are good, kids.
- 1:09:56At the blue blood level. Don't exist and probably will
- 1:10:01never exist at the at the standard mid-major level it
- 1:10:05doesn't matter if and I used to have to have this argument all
- 1:10:10the time during my time in division two it doesn't matter
- 1:10:14if you're talking about the school's, meaning the
- 1:10:19infrastructure and all the things that come along with it
- 1:10:23or the performances of said athletes.
- 1:10:26The top of D12, the middle bottom of D1 Grand, Canyon Gap
- 1:10:34is a very apropos descriptor, the top of the vision to and the
- 1:10:41middle bottom of division. One there is no Gap, no Gap.
- 1:10:45There are really isn't, and the, the, the interesting thing that
- 1:10:52I found, When I was working in division two and again, I'm I'm
- 1:10:58Addie. One person.
- 1:10:59I went to UCLA when the South Carolina right Pac-12 SEC, so
- 1:11:02I'm an elitist, right? That was my experience.
- 1:11:07I was pleasantly surprised to get into division 2 and realize
- 1:11:14that my ignorance was wrong. And oh, you know what?
- 1:11:17There's actually, some really great coaches at division, two
- 1:11:21because I didn't know that before I was forced to working.
- 1:11:24Right before I chose to go into that endeavor.
- 1:11:26And it started to become a really like a thorn of
- 1:11:31irritation because I watched these other coaches in division
- 1:11:36one and the High School coaches and athletes and I'm like,
- 1:11:40you're going to walk away from an amazing opportunity at
- 1:11:44division, two with a proven coach to go put on a jersey
- 1:11:50because you want to be the one, so you can hashtag Tag D1, and
- 1:11:55then watch people, you know, flounder and suffer and not
- 1:11:59develop, right? They're like I would almost say
- 1:12:02that I'd say about a third of people who are in division one
- 1:12:08belonging to Vision to hmm and we do better.
- 1:12:12Well, they would thrive in win things.
- 1:12:14Yes. Yeah, I'm not to jump off the
- 1:12:19ledge and saved, right? And when things but they would
- 1:12:21contest. Yeah, more than they're
- 1:12:22contesting now. If you win a conference
- 1:12:36Championship later on in life, it doesn't matter what
- 1:12:38conference it was. Yeah it matters when you're 21
- 1:12:40years old in college sure. But when you put it on your
- 1:12:43resume and you trying to get a job me too, it doesn't matter.
- 1:12:47Yeah but see but see what's that?
- 1:12:48Same caveat, the letters that are on your diploma before and
- 1:12:56after I agree. So, so so mi thing the whole
- 1:13:01this whole thing is like okay so there's a, there's a A gap
- 1:13:04between some of the power fives. That's their.
- 1:13:07Yes. Saying that's the bright.
- 1:13:09Yes, yes, exactly. You know, so I think that if
- 1:13:16it's me, I think, you know, an education is an education.
- 1:13:23I think the value of the education, I was just high as
- 1:13:25almost a credible University, but I think the bigger the
- 1:13:29ability to go there and may contribute to something.
- 1:13:32Yeah. Right I don't think you could
- 1:13:34Anyway, I don't want to just go to a school and say I was on the
- 1:13:36team for four years then went to the track meet.
- 1:13:39Right? That's that's no fun.
- 1:13:41Yeah but it is a thing, the team won national title.
- 1:13:47I got a t-shirt if I was on the team.
- 1:13:50Exactly. So that that's not something
- 1:13:53that you people should strive for, in my opinion.
- 1:13:55I think that the Gap is huge, a lot of ways and you know, I you
- 1:13:59know and I, you know obviously no, I've got that first world
- 1:14:01problem and I'm happy I have that first world.
- 1:14:04All right, I'ma hold onto a lot was again.
- 1:14:07So it's like I think the thing here guys, it's it's a support
- 1:14:12system. That's what it comes down to,
- 1:14:14you know, that the support system.
- 1:14:15I mean, when you know, Nick Saban changes the game with all
- 1:14:20the quality controls and that kind of thing that he added to
- 1:14:24Alabama football and I just love.
- 1:14:27So the rich got richer because they could afford to do those
- 1:14:30things. And help people who can't, Yeah,
- 1:14:34well, it's not. So I've had this conversation
- 1:14:39with Lamar and I've actually like, I think we've done like,
- 1:14:44kind of a straw poll, like pick Four, five schools that are
- 1:14:51currently floundering in power 5.
- 1:14:56And what would happen if the right coach of the right
- 1:15:00individual took the Helm of those schools of those.
- 1:15:03Oh, yeah. We've had this conversation,
- 1:15:05both sober and drunk. Exactly.
- 1:15:07So, still dating both ways. So TMI.
- 1:15:35But let's let's call a spade, a spade, you know, why are they
- 1:15:40floundering, right? It's you we can look year after
- 1:15:46year after year and look at the rankings and I'm just like, I'm
- 1:15:49just going to keep it at track for right now.
- 1:15:51Right, please and you are you are It's mystifying.
- 1:15:57It's absolutely mystifying because yes they may not have
- 1:16:02the resources of a Florida. But this got more resources than
- 1:16:09everybody else. Where's who, why aren't you
- 1:16:13using those resources and the right way?
- 1:16:18And is it okay to be where you're at?
- 1:16:21That, that's the part that's just mind boggling to me.
- 1:16:25And it really hit me when I got here, you know, and Clyde and I
- 1:16:30can have this conversation before we I know for me and I
- 1:16:35know No, for Clyde, we are enjoying out working those
- 1:16:39folks. We are loving this.
- 1:16:43Absolutely, you know, it gives me joy, you know?
- 1:16:46So yeah, absolutely. The gap between top of the power
- 1:16:52of the food chain and the bottom of power 5 is much, much
- 1:16:55greater. But to the governor's Point,
- 1:16:58Petty, Joy is the best Joy I do. I do enjoy that daily.
- 1:17:04Yeah. Look, it's not even a
- 1:17:09track-and-field conversation, but this was something that I
- 1:17:13type of conversation in the space that I've had a million
- 1:17:15times, right? People have gotten upset with me
- 1:17:18and I'll take the hot issue at the moment, right?
- 1:17:21I've said many many times that the smartest thing HBCU world
- 1:17:25could do for themselves. Is everybody together?
- 1:17:29Go to division two? Everybody's oh that's so
- 1:17:31offensive. Why is it offensive?
- 1:17:33Is it more important? Would it be seen as a bigger
- 1:17:37deal? The Jackson State goes and wins
- 1:17:39the celebration bowl or that they win a National Championship
- 1:17:42in division, two. Yeah, it would be more important
- 1:17:46and much bigger deal and more. People would care about the
- 1:17:49national championship. So they opted out of the out of
- 1:17:52the small School playoffs. Yes.
- 1:17:55Anyone do that. Yeah, to hang onto the
- 1:17:58celebration Bowl thing. It just doesn't make any sense.
- 1:18:01And so if you're in these situations, And you you're
- 1:18:06talking about, you know, recruits and you know
- 1:18:09perspective and all this other stuff.
- 1:18:12The top of the vision to track and field, any given year is,
- 1:18:16he'll eat his Elite. They leave his.
- 1:18:19Now you may have two or three Elite and the rest, right?
- 1:18:24No. Aren't the the death isn't
- 1:18:26there? But the top is the top.
- 1:18:28Yeah. But your your your mid-major and
- 1:18:33Below there's P5 G5. Is everybody else, right?
- 1:18:36The everybody else. Go look at the different
- 1:18:39division 2 National Championship meet you.
- 1:18:41Yeah, you can't, you can't tell me, it's any different.
- 1:18:44Yeah, you know, an athlete here at least their aside, but it's
- 1:18:48basically that let's be also, be very real cognizant of the fact
- 1:18:53that you talk about the G5. Monte Carlo.
- 1:19:25Ashland University. Come on now.
- 1:19:27Yeah, I mean look. He's marking.
- 1:19:30What the best? Yeah, to have been.
- 1:19:32They've always been good enough. Yes.
- 1:19:34Yeah. Oh, in state can't state is not
- 1:19:37an eigenstate. They're not, they're doing what
- 1:19:41is funny like to the governor's point about our conversations
- 1:19:45that we've had multiple lot of conversations about like, okay,
- 1:19:50if you were going to get the support, not necessarily look
- 1:19:53not. We won't call the University of
- 1:19:55Florida support but we'll say appropriate support to build a
- 1:19:59championship program. Where would you go and like my
- 1:20:02top to answer that? I'm not going to give them, but
- 1:20:04my top two answers, one of them was a P5 school and one of them
- 1:20:06isn't, I don't even think they're in a group of five.
- 1:20:09Hmm. But there is this, the same
- 1:20:12answer. I remember, they're not.
- 1:20:14Yeah, so right. But, but what if given support
- 1:20:18at those two places? Yeah.
- 1:20:21You could assemble a staff and a team that could, you know, one
- 1:20:24day as Solutions was retiring take over the throne.
- 1:20:31I will never forget a certain California school that Lamar
- 1:20:35told me, who would be the best that I can feel School in the
- 1:20:40entire country. I will go to my grave.
- 1:20:42Forget you telling me that I'll go to my grave in the morning.
- 1:20:46I had this conversation, you know, kind of No, I want to see
- 1:20:52impressively a couple of weeks ago because I'm of the belief
- 1:20:56that if you have the support I have here.
- 1:21:00Mmm, I think I can go anywhere in the country of my there you
- 1:21:02go. Yeah we definitely had this
- 1:21:05conversation aggressively more, any recipes from your words,
- 1:21:10your Sounds like that's what we could
- 1:21:23sell. So I'll say this because I've
- 1:21:33actually been at the gaps at the gaps right now and wow, wow,
- 1:21:43that was awesome. That was, that's what I mean.
- 1:21:49You've already said it, but I've lived the gap between mid-major
- 1:21:54low, major D1, and D2. And it's having to recruit
- 1:22:01against it and then recruit to it and then now living in the
- 1:22:05seats that I live in. I'm like, oh Lord, yeah.
- 1:22:11How many different ways can I say this to make one side or the
- 1:22:14other? Like better not as better, they
- 1:22:18like that and it's unreal. It really is unreal and whether
- 1:22:22you go institution programmatic or athletic or / athletes, I
- 1:22:27mean, it's it's really unreal. So anyhow with that being said,
- 1:22:35I really have in my head, noted like three screen records to do
- 1:22:40a little commercials for this episode, this point, right?
- 1:22:48Young man is considering coming to train with us, and he was a
- 1:22:53division, three National Champion multiple times.
- 1:22:55And the first day he came, Came to check out, you know, our
- 1:22:59environment, the weather was inclement.
- 1:23:02And so, we took practice inside to the indoor football facility,
- 1:23:07he was at a school that doesn't have football.
- 1:23:12We didn't have to do anything else.
- 1:23:13We walked in the building and he was like, we can use this like
- 1:23:18whenever it rains. Yes.
- 1:23:19He's like, yeah, I'm coming here.
- 1:23:24Great, right? But these are things that like
- 1:23:27all of us have lived the like the P5 normal life, right?
- 1:23:33So like it's weird to us to some degree, to be impressed by an
- 1:23:39indoor football facility. We've all lived where they have,
- 1:23:42well, you know what I mean? I'll talk he walked into the
- 1:23:46bathroom. He walked into the basketball
- 1:23:48arena was like they fill this place.
- 1:23:50I think, sometimes he's like it. I'll take it one step further
- 1:23:56from Milan would have been recruited someone that came from
- 1:24:00another non power 5. And the first day we handed out
- 1:24:05equipment, the kid is looking at me like, right, this is I can
- 1:24:11practice in this, right? And I'm like yes he's like why
- 1:24:18are you giving me five t-shirts? Yeah, yes.
- 1:24:23And look there's my My mind was blown and I'm just going.
- 1:24:26What did they give you some shoes?
- 1:24:31Like some shoes. Yeah, one in one in the fall,
- 1:24:34one in the spring. And I'm like, are you serious
- 1:24:38right now? So, it's even even with up of
- 1:24:42five, it's insane. It really is, you know, so a
- 1:24:48little education. I mean, I love it.
- 1:24:51I love having these conversations because people,
- 1:24:54you know, we're kind of speaking what people are thinking.
- 1:24:57Yes, you different. Populations are thinking about
- 1:25:00screaming to the others, whether they're Avila above or below our
- 1:25:04Into The Ether, right? Yeah.
- 1:25:07Putting pen to the paper for some of you so, well, I didn't
- 1:25:11announce it prior to hitting report, But Clyde you are in,
- 1:25:14and, would you rather this evening?
- 1:25:16All right, well, my internet might go out again.
- 1:25:19Shut up stupid. Oh turkey, so it is it'll it is
- 1:25:29my would you rather is thanksgiving-themed I was going
- 1:25:31to have you you all throw in yours because mine's relatively
- 1:25:35short. Because okay, do here is deep.
- 1:25:39And we've actually done a lot of things giving stuff for holiday
- 1:25:41stuff, and pardon me being insensitive to the holiday, the
- 1:25:46holiday season. Not just Thanksgiving.
- 1:25:49I apologize holiday. So, would you?
- 1:25:54Rather cut the turkey or make the cranberry sauce.
- 1:26:00I don't cook and I don't really care about Thanksgiving or
- 1:26:05whatever else you want to call it.
- 1:26:06So, as long as there's a plate, I'll be on it there.
- 1:26:12Have been many years, where me and Mom, just ordered pizza and
- 1:26:15called it good. All right, however, you
- 1:26:20celebrate right there. Would you rather shop Black
- 1:26:23Friday or Cyber Dragon? I do not shop Black Friday, you
- 1:26:28you will not pay me to go outside on Black Friday.
- 1:26:31I listen, I tried it once and I almost had to harm an old white.
- 1:26:40She threatened my life. And I was afraid, and I felt
- 1:26:45like I needed to go home. Yeah, we asked by over a camera
- 1:26:49that I didn't even want. Question.
- 1:26:52After that. Put a pin in Black Friday, free
- 1:26:55Thanksgiving. Dinner, would you rather do
- 1:26:57dinner in or take out? Wait, what?
- 1:27:02Free free Thanksgiving feel like tonight would I rather be Would
- 1:27:17you rather this is irrelevant, but this is relevant to the
- 1:27:20tryptophan, would you rather fall asleep on a futon or on a
- 1:27:25couch? Futons are terrible.
- 1:27:28We don't, you know, they're futons are one of those
- 1:27:38inventions that were made for small people and I am not so
- 1:27:42yeah, I'm good. Me and futons have never got
- 1:27:44along. Oh, I was living the life.
- 1:27:46It like middle school, high school.
- 1:27:48I had a futon is my bed. And so when I was really feeling
- 1:27:51myself, well, that bad boy up, and now you got a couch in a
- 1:27:54room, all that space. Yeah.
- 1:27:57All that space, small people, small people.
- 1:28:00She's 55 little studio apartment in the house.
- 1:28:10Anyhow gentlemen, would you rather please lift up your
- 1:28:14questions? Well, you already know what I'm
- 1:28:17asking. Oh, I'm here for it.
- 1:28:19Make it. No, you got to go last them
- 1:28:21because that's a conversation. You got to go last because they
- 1:28:24were going to open it up to the reservoir.
- 1:28:27Okay? Good answer.
- 1:28:30Lucius. Nam.
- 1:28:33What think about this woman? Are you all right?
- 1:28:43I gotta, I gotta keep it within a season, then I gotta be at
- 1:28:49Thanksgiving thing. Doesn't you know?
- 1:28:52No. All right.
- 1:29:04Interesting. Okay, I'll go.
- 1:29:07Would you rather relive? Your last at, would you rather
- 1:29:16have a Redo for your last Pac-12 championships or your last pack
- 1:29:20in your last SEC Championship? Oh, my life.
- 1:29:23As an athlete. Hmm, I don't recall that you
- 1:29:30coached at either one of those, obviously coach at the Pac-12
- 1:29:34Championship sir, my bad. Well, then you have a coach that
- 1:29:38the deck, the SEC, so that it could be a question.
- 1:29:40Could, you know, do that? So the funny thing is at my last
- 1:29:50SEC Championship, I was injured and at my last Pac-12
- 1:29:56Championship on my way out to transfer.
- 1:29:58I was injured. So the issue is nothing but no,
- 1:30:03I'd rather be healthy and redo the SEC.
- 1:30:06Me Government to buy you a second.
- 1:30:14Would you rather run a track meet?
- 1:30:17So this is you as the athlete at deanza or at Chabot.
- 1:30:22Oh, dancers not even close. The answer has a spectacular
- 1:30:27facility and I'll just leave it there.
- 1:30:34All right. um, Okay, would you rather travel to a relative's
- 1:30:44house for Thanksgiving dinner? Or would you rather eat
- 1:30:48Thanksgiving at your own house? My own house every time.
- 1:30:53Every time five, lame at least throw up.
- 1:30:56Listen, well I would rather add that home period.
- 1:31:00I would rather eat at home by myself.
- 1:31:04Pizza. Like I love my family I don't
- 1:31:10love all that. Yeah.
- 1:31:14Yes. Yeah.
- 1:31:15There's a there's a there's a faction of people out there that
- 1:31:20believe that drama is supposed to come with Thanksgiving.
- 1:31:23I've just I don't cotton to that never have never will just never
- 1:31:29had never asked your question. Oh, my question is really
- 1:31:32simple, mr. Clyde would you rather eat
- 1:31:37Pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. What would you rather eat sweet
- 1:31:40potato pie again. This is a nuanced and I will
- 1:31:45repeat what I said before. Pumpkin pie is amazing.
- 1:31:49I will eat pumpkin pie, 12 months out of the Year.
- 1:31:53Oh my God, anytime it's available because pumpkin pie is
- 1:31:58awesome. Now I will say this Really well
- 1:32:03done. Sweet potato, pie is Elite and
- 1:32:07above the best. Sweet potato pie I've ever had
- 1:32:10is much better than the best pumpkin pie I've ever had but
- 1:32:14very few people do that well and pumpkin pie is always awesome.
- 1:32:18And sweet potato. Pies like 60/40 bad so I'm good.
- 1:32:24Give me the pumpkin. You can get good pumpkin pie
- 1:32:27from anywhere. It's good.
- 1:32:28From Costco is Good from. Safeway is Good from Raley's.
- 1:32:32Don't matter, it's just good and it's not from the one.
- 1:32:57I can get front from the health food joint down the block.
- 1:33:02Very difficult. Here's what I'll say about
- 1:33:04pumpkin pie and she take apart. I think I am in a really really
- 1:33:09weird minority. I like them both.
- 1:33:12I definitely like sweet potato pie more than pumpkin pie but I
- 1:33:16am not in the one only versus the other.
- 1:33:21Most people have picked the side, right?
- 1:33:24I have it looks its political now.
- 1:33:27It's yeah. Well, as you see because now now
- 1:33:30look now their acronyms for other.
- 1:33:32Things, right? They like, you know, all I know
- 1:33:36is this if I walk into how sex tomorrow and someone says we got
- 1:33:41pumpkin pie, I'm like give it to me.
- 1:33:44Somebody says we got sweet potato pie.
- 1:33:46I'm saying who made it? I need to know Oh God.
- 1:34:18If the pumpkin pie is half gone, I will take my plate of food
- 1:34:23food and put it in the 10 surrounded by the pumpkin pie,
- 1:34:28like that is just what does it taste good?
- 1:34:30Awesome. Wow.
- 1:34:34It's my gosh. Oh my gosh.
- 1:34:37All right. My second.
- 1:34:38Favorite pie is Cherry, Cherry Pie is really good weight from
- 1:34:43the corner store. Hey, I have never had a bad.
- 1:34:49There's no Steven. Yes.
- 1:35:01From the Cornerstone anyways. Okay, you guys have you guys
- 1:35:06have issues became. So we're a little off the rails.
- 1:35:25Okay, can't do we have, do we have time for turkey?
- 1:35:29Keys of the year. No, we do not.
- 1:35:36We actually have gone longer so we'll see what happens.
- 1:35:50So, giving thanks giving props, giving thoughts to those who are
- 1:35:56wrong to receive them. Lifting up for you all - silly
- 1:36:03but serious. So I'll just jump in as you see
- 1:36:08I am in all black tonight. My heartbeat props.
- 1:36:11Go out to my team sjsu Spartans who have survived the start of
- 1:36:19what we call Boot Camp up until Thanksgiving.
- 1:36:23The team is extremely young and I'm really really proud of the
- 1:36:26work they have put in. And the reason I'm in all black
- 1:36:29is Because on December 9th, we are going to have a true inner
- 1:36:33squad meet we have fantasy. Drafted the teams.
- 1:36:37There are three teams TJ Harris's over team gold.
- 1:36:41Ernie Clark is over team blue and I am of course over team
- 1:36:44black. And we are going to curb stomp.
- 1:36:46The rest of our competition into submission.
- 1:36:49We will raise the trophy. It's going to be awesome and I'm
- 1:36:53just here for it. I'm proud of all the kids.
- 1:36:55But on December 9th, it's all team black.
- 1:36:59That's good. That's good.
- 1:37:01I'm, I'm echoing the same sentiment Clyde.
- 1:37:06I'm super proud of our team and the work that we put in.
- 1:37:14And, you know, I'm just hopeful at this point that they
- 1:37:20recognize what they've done and we're in the preparation, they
- 1:37:24put in and keep it going for the next six weeks.
- 1:37:28Because as we all know this is the time to show you can
- 1:37:35literally just take it all and throw it in the trash you know.
- 1:37:40And so you know, Hartley props but we got to keep this thing
- 1:37:45going. What was that?
- 1:37:49That's code for. We're really going to.
- 1:37:50We're going to be really good this year.
- 1:38:01Proud man. Proud.
- 1:38:15Two weeks in a row, just senseless violence, senseless,
- 1:38:19taking of lives, you know, at some point in time people, we
- 1:38:25got to get to the point where you realize that this thing with
- 1:38:28this problem with guns is real on this problem with us having
- 1:38:33issues with people because they don't look like us and walk like
- 1:38:36us and talk like us at some point.
- 1:38:38You got to stop and I know, I am not a politician.
- 1:38:42I am not known that smart to know exactly what the problem
- 1:38:45is. But I know this is a serious
- 1:38:47issue and it has to be addressed.
- 1:38:48So I want to give Harvey props to those who survived, those who
- 1:38:53have lost loved ones and those who have, you know, just even
- 1:38:57closer to situations because it's had a great effect on so
- 1:39:00many. So those are my Army Brothers.
- 1:39:03Absolutely. Similarly.
- 1:39:12Kudos Harvey prompts to all the athletes who have endured the
- 1:39:16Fall have prospered through the fall and dance to befall
- 1:39:20specifically those who are or frogs, but specifically this one
- 1:39:28particular athlete who endured to, I think technically three
- 1:39:34transitions in the last six months.
- 1:39:38Moaning that eight months Miss Gracie Morris.
- 1:39:42To just attended her first national championship, the cross
- 1:39:45country season and you know, ran solo her team but showed up
- 1:39:53showed out and is kind of made a noise when it was kind of doubt
- 1:39:56not doubted by anybody but maybe even herself of whether her
- 1:40:00presence was going to be there or not.
- 1:40:03But super proud of her super excited and keep smiling and
- 1:40:07keep running left. Right?
- 1:40:09Left? Right go fast.
- 1:40:14My heartbeat pop actually just kind of piggybacks off of what
- 1:40:17our main topic for tonight was my heartbeat props.
- 1:40:21Go out to all of the young people who are currently in or
- 1:40:26contemplating being in the transfer portal.
- 1:40:32It's a very intricate and brave decision that you've made a
- 1:40:39truly and utterly hope that you make the best of it.
- 1:40:43There's nothing wrong with moving, as long as you're moving
- 1:40:45up. For yourself and I don't mean
- 1:40:49any level. Right.
- 1:40:51As long as you're making your situation better, your own
- 1:40:54personal situation better. Don't let anybody question that
- 1:40:57decision. But don't, don't don't transfer
- 1:41:00for somebody else either. So, my heart be props, really
- 1:41:04and truly does, go to to the young people who are
- 1:41:11Contemplating right now, like making all kinds of massive life
- 1:41:15changes over the Christmas break.
- 1:41:19And not understanding what a massive Endeavor that truly is.
- 1:41:24And that, you know, people talk about transferring like it's
- 1:41:27easy. I did it.
- 1:41:29It ain't you know, it comes with stuff and You know, I wish them
- 1:41:38all the best. I hope that they make wise and
- 1:41:41emotionless decisions and that they make them matter.
- 1:41:48I'm sorry. Given the very important
- 1:41:52heartbeat props that sir Lucius throughout their and rightfully,
- 1:41:56so we would be remissed to not also mention the Colorado
- 1:42:01incidents and You know, the hero of the moment, you know, mr.
- 1:42:11Ferraro Richard Fierro Army veteran, who disarmed, and who
- 1:42:16knows how many lives he saved when him and the and the other
- 1:42:21members of other people in the audience at the, at the drag
- 1:42:26show, we're able to save by disarming, the man with the gun
- 1:42:31Zach, that is a crazy story and if you haven't Read it or
- 1:42:35haven't been paying attention to it.
- 1:42:37You really should you know just go to a new site and read what
- 1:42:43that man. Did it was incredible and
- 1:42:46they're very few people out there like him that would have
- 1:42:49even thought to jump in in a moment like that.
- 1:42:54He saved that there's out. There's you know, four or five
- 1:42:57people that have died from that. It could have been 30 and it
- 1:43:00wasn't because of that man and the others that ran to the aid.
- 1:43:04So I mean Bravo, sir. Yeah, seven mass shootings in
- 1:43:11the last seven days but we don't need to change gun laws at all.
- 1:43:18All right, well, wrap it up this in this, evenings episode.
- 1:43:25Happy holidays, start of the holiday season for everyone.
- 1:43:29Remember your sweatpants elastic, waistbands for
- 1:43:31tomorrow. And without further Ado, we're
- 1:43:36going, we're going to get up tomorrow.
- 1:43:42Tomorrow is all about. But I have a good one.
- 1:43:50It was Ian, he will later on my gosh.
- 1:43:55Go Giants.
