- 0:55Check out the shows WASD and beyond.
- 0:57It came screen box and roll for Deception boys.
- 1:01It was my pick, my pick. And you pick and.
- 1:06It was it was cool. It was cool.
- 1:07I picked Savage flowers on screen box and I don't regret
- 1:14it. It it, you know, Noah, Noah hid
- 1:20it right. It was a lot and it, it took a
- 1:23lot to get to where I thought we were going to go.
- 1:27So Savage Flowers is basically, you know, I think if this
- 1:32released during the COVID times, it would have hit maybe a bit
- 1:35harder, maybe a little bit harder.
- 1:39This movie is basically there's an infection or a virus going
- 1:41around that is prevalent in young women.
- 1:45I thought it was all children for a while there, but it's just
- 1:47young women and they're called carriers.
- 1:52You don't really get to see too much of what it looks like in
- 1:55this film except for one time really.
- 1:58But basically all of the world is exterminating young women
- 2:04children, and that is the premise of the movie.
- 2:07We meet our main character Rose as she's being dropped off at is
- 2:11somewhat of a boarding house at this point or a safe house for
- 2:16said young women. And it's it's cool.
- 2:20It's got like it's own little headmaster mistress in this
- 2:23instance, Miss Lucy. You got the cast, Ada, Iris,
- 2:28Rose, Lily and Rebecca. Those are our main, you know,
- 2:33group of girls here. And the movie just kind of goes
- 2:35from there. You get to learn a little bit
- 2:38about Rose's back story, how she was found, you know her a little
- 2:41bit about her father. What this movie does right is
- 2:48the vision, the the cinematography.
- 2:51That is what this movie gets absolutely correct because the
- 2:55movie looks beautiful. It's shot really nicely.
- 2:58There are very cool shots, especially later on you'll you
- 3:02get to learn a lot about these girls.
- 3:04I wish you could have learned a little bit more, but there's
- 3:07like this whole mask thing that they do and there's a lot of
- 3:11like in the mask shots of the eyes that I was in love with,
- 3:19but not a whole lot of information on what is actually
- 3:25going on in the world. We get our, you know, we get our
- 3:29villains who are the red bands who are very fascist, neo Nazi
- 3:35ice inspired looking fellas. And you know, there's one good
- 3:40guy out of the bunch. So it's very trophy.
- 3:44There's two, there's one good guy because Sam is not a part of
- 3:47them. Sam is our groundskeeper.
- 3:51We like double agent guy. Yeah, Jonah's talking.
- 3:55About. Who was also there when Rose's
- 3:58dad was arrested. So yeah, yeah, clearly not that
- 4:02good of a guy. Yeah, and he's also.
- 4:04He did stop from getting shot in the head.
- 4:06Well, so he gets, he does get killed, but well, I think the
- 4:10main purpose of Jonah in that instance was to get Rose out
- 4:14like he knew that. It was going to happen.
- 4:17There's a lot of the problem is there's a lot of like tie
- 4:21insurance that needed to happen that didn't happen.
- 4:24And I think it's a short time, short runtime that really
- 4:28effects this movie. But I also think what this movie
- 4:32suffered from was a lack of focus on certain aspects that it
- 4:38could have focused a bit more on.
- 4:41I would have really liked to see like more run insurance with the
- 4:43red band. Like we we went like, because
- 4:46it's done like days and chunks of days right till we get to the
- 4:5021st day. More run insurance with the red
- 4:53band more, more hiding from the red band, more random knocks and
- 4:58miss Lucy really cracking down going.
- 5:00This is how you have to act. That's how we have to live until
- 5:03you're of age and I can let you go.
- 5:07But it's not that it's it boils into an anti bullying film when
- 5:14you could have boiled this what you could have cooked it
- 5:16differently to anti fascism. And this is what the world was
- 5:21going through when it came to COVID.
- 5:24And that's not what we did here. So boys, what did you?
- 5:27Film. It's very, very, very British,
- 5:30but they hate ice and the Nazis just as much as we hate ice and
- 5:33the Nazis. That's right.
- 5:35True. So this but but but well you got
- 5:39some boot lickers out there who don't but.
- 5:41They're not real. They're not real people made-up
- 5:44that that's that's my problem here.
- 5:46It's it's the lack of focus and really like the lack of that's a
- 5:51lack of but you. No, I think there is there is
- 5:54something of a lack of focus. Yeah, well, the lack of focus,
- 5:57but there's low hanging fruit. You really could have grabbed
- 6:00here, like you could have went for a couple different things.
- 6:02But I want you guys, I want to hear what you guys have to feel,
- 6:05have to say about this. Yeah.
- 6:08Did you take it, Alex? Oh, I liked it.
- 6:12It makes you feel uneasy, Very uneasy.
- 6:20Not really a horror movie or really psychological.
- 6:25Yeah. What was I going to say about
- 6:28it? There's I would too have liked
- 6:34to have known more about said virus.
- 6:36Did you think that's what they are We spoiling?
- 6:41It's 2020. Five Yeah.
- 6:42Spoilers. It's fine spoilers.
- 6:44Watch it if you. Want.
- 6:47Is that what do you think they gave Lucy?
- 6:49Yeah, yeah. Well, Lily is a carrier. 100%
- 6:52Lily is the carrier. They're all carriers.
- 6:56They're all carriers, but I think out of all of them, well,
- 7:00every little girl would be a carrier.
- 7:01So yeah, but Lily is the one who's now infected 3 people that
- 7:06we know of her parents and now miss Lucy.
- 7:09Yeah, didn't. Catch that part when she
- 7:12infected her parents? What?
- 7:14So that. Was the implication.
- 7:15She went into the room and she did the same thing that she does
- 7:19to Lucy to them, and I think the insinuation in that scene is
- 7:23that she's infecting them. Lucy Lucy is also not Lucy.
- 7:27Lily. Lily is also a villain here.
- 7:30This little girl is a terrible. Oh, she a little shit.
- 7:35Dude, dude, fucking kick rocks. Yeah, I I like it.
- 7:41It makes you feel very fucking uneasy.
- 7:45There's just two parts I could go without seeing.
- 7:50And you know, it may happen and they happen right here and
- 7:54couple minutes here, like I back-to-back.
- 7:58All right. I did like that they did show
- 8:00those parts because a lot of film makers would go can't show
- 8:03that happening on film. Like you can't show it usually.
- 8:07The one they don't really show cuz the dude's in the way, but
- 8:10the second one. You see it?
- 8:12You see it? Yeah, it was, yeah.
- 8:15Too, Yeah. It's part of storytelling.
- 8:18I get it, and I do respect them doing it, but you can.
- 8:23It's rough. It it, it seemed very out of
- 8:27place for this movie, but I want to I want to let you wrap up
- 8:34your thought. No, that's about it.
- 8:36I had something else, but my brain is scrambled.
- 8:40All right, well, so my thing, like when it starts out, it's
- 8:44talking about there's a some kind of illness, sometimes it's
- 8:48referred to as a plague that is spread by children.
- 8:51So they're sequestering all the children away and you hear stuff
- 8:56where like, oh, it's a it's a child care center.
- 8:58And then someone on the news is like, well, we should just kill
- 9:01them all. And it's setting up this world
- 9:04where like children are being prosecuted.
- 9:06But then it kind of forgets that to do this like teen girl drama
- 9:11of these four like 14 to 17 year olds who are stuck in this house
- 9:19and just like getting up to wacky antics while the world is
- 9:22like supposedly ending around them.
- 9:25Yeah. So there was that bit of like it
- 9:29like what does this movie want to be?
- 9:30Because they did set up like a really interesting world and
- 9:34that and the conflict that's going on and society is
- 9:37crumbling because obviously there's a lot of kids being
- 9:40captured and and killed. Like we see the the sort of the
- 9:47housekeeper, the caretaker, Lucy had a daughter who was executed
- 9:52in front of her just on the side of the street and they and they
- 9:56show that and it's like that kind of thing like that is a
- 10:00heavy hitting shot, but it feels really out of place in a movie
- 10:05like this. It like, it feels like the
- 10:07movies, like we're going to do all this really good, like world
- 10:11building, and then just forget that we're going to watch like
- 10:15this one girl being bully. Yeah.
- 10:17But that's that's exactly that You showed these two monumental
- 10:22shots. Two children are killed on
- 10:24screen. There you guys go.
- 10:25Yeah, two children are killed on screen.
- 10:28One is running so that they're shot in the back of the head
- 10:30while running. And the other one's just
- 10:32execution style. It's heavy imagery.
- 10:35And then you next scene is just bullying.
- 10:39It's like, it's strange, like I could go on and on about the
- 10:43great world building, but I just wanted to touch on like a couple
- 10:47things this movie does really well.
- 10:48Clearly our main character Rose has PTSD from having to hide
- 10:56from the red bands and being captured by the red bands.
- 11:01When she's in, she ends up hiding in a closet 'cause
- 11:05they're playing like a hide and seek type game and there's like
- 11:08a band of light that's just over her face and then it seamlessly
- 11:13cut to her being behind a bookshelf and only getting that
- 11:19little bit of light through the bookshelf.
- 11:20Like that. It's incredible.
- 11:22Like it's really good work, really good shots, really
- 11:25effective. Like it really, you know, it, it
- 11:30it's like World War 2 type imagery of having to hide from
- 11:34people in your home looking for you while like your parent is
- 11:38there or somebody is there trying to trying to tell them
- 11:44that nobody's here. And then and then again, it just
- 11:48goes like it's up. OK, well, that really effective,
- 11:51really interesting world building and really well done
- 11:56piece of filmmaking. We're just going to forget about
- 11:59that for a minute. We got to worry about the
- 12:01bullying some more. Yeah, Lil is grounded now.
- 12:04Do you guys know that? It's like, and like that whole
- 12:07scene, that's goofy too because it's like she's like, I so much
- 12:11has changed since I've been gone, dude.
- 12:13You. She was dead.
- 12:14They grounded her for three days.
- 12:16And it's like, I understand this is how Children Act, but the,
- 12:24you know. There's a lot of gaslighting and
- 12:25manipulating going on, like a whole.
- 12:27Lot, yeah. Yeah, I mean, kids act crazy,
- 12:31but there's like, there's like, I don't know.
- 12:34There's little maniac children like Lily.
- 12:36There is but like. There is, that's.
- 12:38That's to make that the focus here instead of but.
- 12:42Also, I mean, you would be fucked up if you grew up in
- 12:48this, in this landscape. We don't really.
- 12:51Fast. Yeah, we don't know how long
- 12:55like this has been going on, but we do know that at least rows is
- 13:01close to the end because at the beginning she says like, oh,
- 13:05it's only going to be two years. So let's say like if she's like
- 13:1016 or whatever, and when you turn 18, that's when the virus
- 13:15goes away or I think, yeah, I think it was 20, the note.
- 13:19So let's say when. So when you turn 20, the virus
- 13:22goes away. So she's like she's 18 now.
- 13:26So there, she's coming up on the end of this, but there's so much
- 13:32like potential in the setup here.
- 13:35Like so OK, she's going to age out of the range.
- 13:39When you can have this illness, then what?
- 13:42What did she do then? Hey, I've been hiding and I
- 13:46evaded everything for XY and Z years.
- 13:50I'm in society now, right? Yeah, but there's so many
- 13:53unanswered things there. And again, to Noah's point, you,
- 14:00you build this thing, this brilliant fucking world, and we
- 14:04get not even a taste of it. There's bits and pieces.
- 14:09It's like table scraps. You kind of make you think that
- 14:13like it's like end of the world when it's really not.
- 14:19Well, I mean like potentially it would be.
- 14:22It would but like they were still like holding interviews on
- 14:26cable TV. They should have showed more of
- 14:29that, well, that. So that begs the question of how
- 14:32long has this been going on if all the infrastructure is still
- 14:36around? Like, I don't know, I mean, you
- 14:40say that we say like, you know, they they are able to do that,
- 14:44but there's people being like killed in the streets.
- 14:47Like it's not, you know, you can, you can unfortunately, you
- 14:51can imagine that. You can imagine that like
- 14:53certain things would just go on as normal, as if the world
- 14:58around you wasn't completely falling apart.
- 15:00I'm talking about nothing. But like it is that thing that
- 15:05you're saying like the the world building that just ultimately
- 15:09becomes the backdrop. When I think like the backdrop,
- 15:12it for this is much stronger. Like the world they've set up is
- 15:15much more interesting than the story we're being fed.
- 15:20It's like, it's like having a nice meal in front of you and
- 15:27it's a little too far away and you can't reach it.
- 15:29But in like that you have a snack that you're allowed to
- 15:33eat, but you want the steak and fries.
- 15:37But you're being told, well, you could have the snack right now
- 15:40and maybe you'll one day you'll have the steak and fries.
- 15:42I would have much rather seen this go in so many different
- 15:46directions. The girls get out, they travel
- 15:50around or the red band come in and it's it's it's crazier
- 15:54because there's a whole scene with this tension built up with
- 15:56the red band in the house. You're like, OK, like if they
- 16:00just bust it now, like this could be cool.
- 16:02Like what if the girls get taken to because they're essentially
- 16:05concentration camps. That's what they're basically
- 16:08called. So what if the girls get taken
- 16:10there and Lily, we can the big shot.
- 16:12Like, there's so many things. We can gather from what they say
- 16:18that they're advertised as like detention facilities or, or like
- 16:23sanctuaries to help protect these young women and, and
- 16:28children and stuff. But we, we get what's going on
- 16:32there. It's obvious.
- 16:33Like, it is another thing that you can definitely see as being
- 16:38a real thing. Again, I'm talking about nothing
- 16:40but it it's the thing that you can imagine and it and that kind
- 16:47of thing like you do like you want to explore that like movies
- 16:50like 1 battle after another stuff that's like based around
- 16:54what you're seeing. And this has some parallels to
- 16:57what we're seeing and you want to see that explored.
- 17:00Like it felt like this movie was going to do something crazy.
- 17:04I mean, it came out in 2025, so it's pretty easy to assign it to
- 17:11the, you know, the current goings on, but it it.
- 17:15Shies away from it. Yeah, Like it tip toes.
- 17:19It puts its fucking toe in the water and goes, oh, shouldn't
- 17:22say that. Like if, for instance, I was
- 17:24like, you know, fuck ice and Donald Trump.
- 17:26And I think he's a big dumpy red orange bitch.
- 17:30But like that sweaty ankled boy. Yeah, dude, his hands, you gotta
- 17:34slap his hand and it bruises and he's all and we hate him.
- 17:38But from shaking too many hands. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:41It was from fucking bastard Satan's butt, baby, but I'm not
- 17:46going to put that on my boy the the devil.
- 17:49Devil's too good for that. Yeah, Devil's way too good for
- 17:52Trump anyways. But like, that's what kind of
- 17:55irked me because it's not like I needed the movie to have an
- 17:58agenda. But if you're going to assign
- 18:00the agenda to the film and you're showing all this shit
- 18:04that is so parallel to everything going on, even if
- 18:07you're trying to go parallel to the Nazi era of what was
- 18:11happening, then go there. Don't fucking halfway go there.
- 18:17Show what's happening, and then go.
- 18:20But this is a film about bullying.
- 18:22Yeah. 'Cause it doesn't make sense.
- 18:24It's like you just took it away from me.
- 18:26It's like, and it's not to say what's happening in the film
- 18:29isn't it is interesting if it wasn't, I think if the film
- 18:35didn't like explain any of the fucking virus in the world
- 18:38around us and it just a girl gets dropped off of this halfway
- 18:41home by a dude in a shitty looking car That's kind of also
- 18:45dope is a get out and she gets out and nothing else is really
- 18:49explained and it's just this household.
- 18:53No complaints. But you've already set the
- 18:55expectation for me, and then you've shown me nothing.
- 18:58Yeah. So I think the whole time we
- 19:01were just maybe expecting that it was going to leave this
- 19:04house. But I I do think like they may
- 19:08be I had written this drama between these girls which has a
- 19:13random like occult aspect with the masks and stuff.
- 19:17It it almost doesn't work, but then it kind of does.
- 19:20Because like Lord of the Flies, like these girls are, but
- 19:22they're not left to their own devices.
- 19:24That's the thing. Well, they I mean.
- 19:27They are and they're not. They might as well.
- 19:28As far as they knew. Yeah, it.
- 19:32It you know what this really kind of reminds me of a little
- 19:34bit. That's what I was going to say
- 19:35earlier. Reminiscent of yellow jackets.
- 19:41OK, I haven't watched that. It's good.
- 19:44It's actually really good. It's a dark story, but like, I
- 19:47don't know, there's some Yellow Jacket vibes here just a little
- 19:50bit. I get it, but then explore why
- 19:57Iris is. Like, yeah, we they do.
- 20:02Yeah. They do a really good job when
- 20:04they want you to know about the characters, yes.
- 20:07And there's these five girls and you only get a back story for
- 20:10two of them, but what you get is like really compelling.
- 20:13I would have really wanted to see what they would have done
- 20:16with the other characters. Yeah.
- 20:19And it's not to say that the payoff at the end isn't, it's
- 20:22lackluster, but it's like finally, like, yeah, like it's
- 20:27like a finally moment, but not like a that was satisfying.
- 20:30It's like, OK, finally one of you just did something when the
- 20:33other one took it too far. It's like, OK, where has this
- 20:37energy been? So that is my issue with this
- 20:40film as a whole. But the storytelling is great
- 20:45when it decides it's going to actually invite you into the
- 20:49world. It's shot beautifully.
- 20:52The acting is also phenomenal. These these young women really
- 20:58and even the the actors who played Sam and Jonah and for as
- 21:03long as you see Jonah, I guess, but also why show off the big
- 21:08bad red band character like the main one who actually shows his
- 21:12face to then never show him again after he's killed a child
- 21:17like you I. Think that would be sorry?
- 21:20Go ahead. No, but you would think that'd
- 21:22be something you'd want to bring more into the film as like an
- 21:26overarching thing to make Lily. Yes, Lily's a bitch and she's a
- 21:31bully, but this guy is bigger than that and you invite that
- 21:36into the film and make Lily feel small and then they have to work
- 21:40it. So many swings you could have
- 21:43taken and I think would have been a better result here.
- 21:46I think this movie suffered from staying in its lane.
- 21:50Like it sort of painted itself into a box and then couldn't get
- 21:53out. Like they were like, no, we want
- 21:55to. We want to do this story about
- 21:57these five girls. We don't like it is that, you
- 22:00know, with everything else, all that craziness, there's still
- 22:04this like pocket of this like teen drama that they want to
- 22:08explore, which is interesting because it is like that kind of
- 22:13thing. Like you take a simple topic as
- 22:18these five year olds who just don't really like each other and
- 22:22you place it in this world where everything is crumbling around
- 22:25you. It does make it more complicated
- 22:26and more interesting I think. I just would have wanted to see
- 22:30more of the outside influence bleeding in to that story.
- 22:35Yeah, yeah. Definitely they, for all intents
- 22:38and purposes, they've, they've killed all the adults around
- 22:42them, right? There were only two.
- 22:44How are they getting food? How are they getting like any
- 22:47supplies? You know, like just to mention
- 22:50something like that of being like, Oh, well, we can't get
- 22:53stuff ourselves because we look too young and we'll be
- 22:56suspected. They are gardening, they're
- 22:59harvesting the animals. So they got the eggs, they got
- 23:02the chicken meat. So, you know, and they're
- 23:04they're, they're gardening. But what happens after Lily
- 23:07takes over here? It's all going to.
- 23:10Stop, if that's even the insinuation.
- 23:12If that's even the insinuation, right?
- 23:14Like and OK, so is Lucy dead now or what's?
- 23:20Or I don't know how this virus works.
- 23:22We weren't explained how it works.
- 23:24We know that Lily is dead and like Rebecca, is the one Rebecca
- 23:30who gets stabbed. Yes.
- 23:33So two of them are dead. Lucy definitely has the virus.
- 23:37Sam, we're not so sure. Him and Jonah are running up at
- 23:42the end. Yeah.
- 23:44So I guess the insinuation is that they would have left and
- 23:50like that feels that feels like, oh, it's about to get
- 23:52interesting because now they're going to be on the run.
- 23:55And they're like half. Hour that they were trying to
- 23:57tell here. No.
- 23:59So like if they were to do a second one, which I don't know
- 24:02if they would but like, is that the?
- 24:04I don't want to speculate on that.
- 24:06Yeah. I mean, you can't emphasize
- 24:08enough like these are really like writing problems that we
- 24:12have all like it was shot great. The actors did a really good
- 24:15job. I think they would do a really
- 24:17good job in whatever is written for them.
- 24:21Yeah. Yeah, it just feels like a lot
- 24:25of, like, I don't want to say wasted potential, but there's
- 24:28just a lot of, there's more potential for something more
- 24:33than what they were trying to do.
- 24:34But you can tell that they did what they wanted.
- 24:38And the fact that we're begging for more of this world that
- 24:43they've set up is, you know, to this movie's benefit.
- 24:48Yeah. Oh, Alex.
- 24:51Say what you got to say, Bubba. Nothing.
- 24:54It's just he's not wrong. He's not wrong at all.
- 24:58You know what? I think this would have been
- 25:01best as a show. Think so.
- 25:05I think if you were to have this split up between seasons, 10
- 25:08episodes each, you could have still explored Lily loose Lily
- 25:13and Lucy and Rose and everybody and Lily's bullying.
- 25:17You could have pushed it further.
- 25:19You could have taken them out into the world or had an
- 25:21invasion into the house. All of this crazy, actual shit
- 25:26to actually learn because it feels like there was just not
- 25:28enough time and too much on the table.
- 25:31And they had they they were sitting up scrambling and going
- 25:34fuck, like, what do we focus on here?
- 25:37So that that that's again, it's a writing issue.
- 25:40Everything else, hats off. Absolute hats off Everything
- 25:45else. Do we know anything about the
- 25:48writer? No, or the director not really.
- 25:51It's a newer film. It it like I said, it is cool.
- 25:57Like there is some cool stuff here and unfortunately it didn't
- 26:01rate well right. So if you know across the board
- 26:04it's like below average, you know it's 4 fours and shit out
- 26:10of. Yeah, it's, it's also a, you
- 26:12know, UK production that appears to have only screened at
- 26:16festivals until Screen Box. So I think yeah, I mean they
- 26:20could find a following on on the Screen Box platform and maybe.
- 26:24It looks like it was. Do something more with this in
- 26:26the future. I mean, shit, looks like it was
- 26:29realistically just starting to be talked about now.
- 26:35It was like just, yeah, it's, I don't know, I it, it's it, it
- 26:43bummed me out because the premise is so cool.
- 26:48So it, it, it just, you know, it's like, God damn it, dude.
- 26:51Like you're so close. You're so fucking close.
- 26:55Yeah, it's set up for something and we didn't quite get what we
- 26:59were hoping for. Yep, so fuck with that.
- 27:07Give it some great things. I'm going to give it because the
- 27:12only thing that really saves this film is it's beautiful
- 27:15cinematography, it's incredible acting and the story that could
- 27:20have been. I'm going to give it a 2.5.
- 27:22I'm. Going to give a straight to it
- 27:27was shot well and Alex is so I think the actors were doing a
- 27:31good job. I just think whoever wrote this,
- 27:35wrote us, wrote a world in the environment that is way more
- 27:40interesting than the story that they decided to tell.
- 27:44And I all I can say is that I hope they get a chance to
- 27:48explore that world a little bit more and really dig into the
- 27:52realities. Because I think it's such a good
- 27:56setup for a lot of like real world, like current day
- 28:01political metaphors that they could do.
- 28:06There's just a lot there. And I hope that they see that
- 28:09and that they take advantage of it and they utilize what
- 28:12they've, what they've created here to really explore that some
- 28:16more. Yeah, Alex.
- 28:20I was also gonna give it a. Two shit.
- 28:25It's, I mean, it's, it's a pretty film.
- 28:27The set. The set is.
- 28:30I love the set. Yeah.
- 28:32The Open. Field the old like the house.
- 28:34The house, the open fields, it's just it's a pretty set in a
- 28:38world of shit, yeah. Yeah, I'll give it.
- 28:44I'll. Give it a 2.
- 28:46It's could. Watch it, you don't have to
- 28:47watch it. It's worth a watch though.
- 28:49It's definitely worth a watch. Yeah, The biggest take away from
- 28:55the, I think anybody listening is we want more.
- 29:00Yeah, It it, we're rating it poorly, but we do want more.
- 29:04I want to know more about this world and these people's
- 29:08stories. I want to know more about this
- 29:09virus. I think we all do.
- 29:11That's the thing to take away. It's yeah, we're giving it a low
- 29:14rating, but it's not not worth. So much.
- 29:18More to explore. Yeah, so literally go check out
- 29:22Savage Flowers on screen box if you want to.
- 29:25It's it's neat. Don't take our word for it.
