- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, I'm Connor Jones, I'm Mike Atama-Sella, and this is Culture Brief, a Dinnison Foreign Podcast where we navigate the constant stream of top stories and news, politics, sports, pop culture, you name it, we're talking about it, we do it all from a Christian perspective, and Mike, my goodness, you received an injury on the Pickleball Courts last night, should we should we tell everybody what happened?
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: I forgot about that.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, I forgot about it this morning.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so Connor and I were playing with some friends.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: We were playing pickle ball and Connor and I were on the same team at this point.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: Connor hits a ball from from the back of the court.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm closer to the net again.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: We're on the same team here on the same side.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: I turn around to look and see if if Connor's hit the ball yet.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: yeah he definitely hit the ball and instead of hitting the back of my head it hit my upper lip pretty hard there was a little bit of blood not too much blood some swelling kind of look like three bees stung me in the same place but other than that we're doing just fine
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, I've never felt more confident going for the ball.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was ready to spike that thing and I did spike it.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, you were in the way.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: That was about to be a point.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Right in the face.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: That was, that was going to be a point for us.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, anyway, I digress.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: So here's, here's what we're going to be talking about today.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: Greenland, Greenland, Greenland.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Indiana football.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: And where are the rest of the Epstein files?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: Connor?
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: That and so much more.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: So let's jump into the brief.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: if that's not a teaser.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what is, brother.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so listen, Trump literally just stepped off the stage at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, so just like, you know, I have prepared kind of a 90 second update, just a quick update in regards to what he said.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of changes some of the things that we didn't know, but all of it basically stays the same.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: So Connor and I do our best to stay on top of things and be prepared.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I prepared everything, yesterday afternoon by the end of yesterday evening.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then Trump steps up there and in some things change, so let me give you quick update.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: So since the story moved overnight, Trump and his speech at the World Economic Forum clarified several things about Greenland that matter and matter for the story.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Most notably, he explicitly did rule out using military force to acquire the island.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: At the same time, he doubled down on why Greenland matters.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: framing it primarily as a defense issue and clarifying he's not trying to acquire it for the minerals like people are talking about.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I think that's a secondary third issue for him.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's a military one.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Trump tied Greenland to a broader vision of continental missile defense often described as the iron dome the golden dome is what he wants to call it.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: style system that can help protect all of North America and he made that point.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: And that framing Greenland's value is about radar coverage early warning and defense infrastructure.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: And so Trump was pretty explicit about what he wants the island for.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Markets responded positively.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I wanted to say that because the markets had one of other worst days in a while yesterday.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: And markets and sales are already rallying just for the Trump to stage this morning.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: Tuesday.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, when it went down right.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: Tuesday, January 20th.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: So allies heard reassurance on force even as real disagreements about sovereignty and, you know, should Denmark come to the table and negotiate.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: So what you're about to hear was wrapped yesterday afternoon in my preparation, but it still holds.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: And if anything, this update sharpens the focus.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: So with that in mind, let's walk through why Greenland matters, what's at stake and how people of faith might think about this issue with clarity and humility.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: So Greenland's sudden prominence in the news can feel random, but it is not.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: It is not random.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like it, but it's not.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: The island has been strategically important to the United States for decades.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: So during World War II, after Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany, and Trump actually said this in a speech, Denmark fought for about six hours, and then surrendered to Germany.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, from that point, the US stepped in to help defend Greenland.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: That wartime arrangement involved into a long-term security relationship that still exists today.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: The US maintains a permanent military presence, which plays a key role in the missile warning and space defense, and so that's kind of been the argument against this, as you can already pretty much do a lot of the things that you want.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's more that America wants to do there, but there is a very good agreement
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: The defense that can actually take place and, you know, the collaboration between the two nations.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: In other words, the US has already deeply invested in Greenland security.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: What has changed is not American interest, but the global environment around it is the point that I want to make.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: So Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got Greenlanders, right, who are Greenlanders, I think, Greenlanders.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: I would get green landings green landings green landings green landings green landers There's only what like 50,000 of them.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a it's small.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: So they've I mean not a lot of it's actually like habitable a lot of it's inhabitable But you've got Denmark
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: who controls it, but then Greenland is self-governing.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: And if anything, Greenland's been kind of fighting for their own independence, but then now America's potentially wanting to try to negotiate to take it over.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: So there's just a lot of things that play with growing autonomy and an active internal debate about its future.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: So inside Greenland conversations about greater independence have been happening from Denmark and all this stuff.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: So any discussion about Greenland status ultimately centers on Greenlanders themselves, not necessarily Washington or Copenhagen, right?
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: So, why Greenland matters now?
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about this.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: There are three forces that have converged at once that maybe kind of explain why Trump is so bullish on this.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: What feels like all of the sudden but has been on the radar of America for a long time.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: First, the Arctic is opening.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: Melting ice is making new shipping routes viable, shortening global trade lanes and increasing military mobility.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Second,
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Greenland holds significant rare earth minerals trumpets saying that this is not a factor of course it's a factor third global competition has moved north so China and Russia have been bulking up their military presence in the Arctic right and so Greenland sits at the geographic crossroads between North America and Europe.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: That makes it incredibly strategically valuable and this is a lot of what Trump's argument is it again I'm not not giving you I'm not even sure exactly what my opinion is I'm saying from what Trump is saying right that NATO is not capable of defending fortifying protecting the island That's going to be Trump's point
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: The whole time is that these NATO countries in Europe have to start stepping up their own defenses, and at the same time they've had control of Greenland this whole time and haven't fortified the defense.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: Now, China and Russia have not explicitly tried to take over Greenland.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: This is Trump projecting that if something is not done, they could eventually do that.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: I.e.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: all of the build up that those countries have done in that area already.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: Conor any thoughts so far?
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just think you're right.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: Everything you just listed out.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: Greenland does have strategic value.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Is it worth going through everything that Trump is taking Europe through?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Because, well, this is strain relationships with our greatest allies over in Europe.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this rip apart NATO.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's why so many people were just on pins and needles for the speech at the World Economic Form in Davos, Switzerland.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: All the world leaders are there.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: All the biggest CEOs and a lot of our debates were taken after the speech.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: It was still a very Trump speech, but he did rule out all the things that people were most concerned about.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: People were just so worried he was going to do a full on military invasion and take the island and I was worried about that I was like how how can you do that like how does that even make sense, right?
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: So Barring any changes there That itself reframes the entire conversation that does what doesn't is I I don't know what he said about if he if he said anything but the tariff She's willing to impose on these countries that are I didn't see any I mean it's all greenland.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right?
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: Which, did you, did you say something about those because isn't he trying to force like a 10% tariff on these European countries that are trying to support Denmark and say, Yeah, it's actually in my next section here.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, great.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to talk about the tariffs.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so it's talk about Trump truth social Davos and diplomacy.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: So this context helps explain why DJT Donald Trump.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: has once again raised Greenland publicly.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: And why this time it landed with more weight.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: So a couple nights ago, Trump went on this truth social barrage.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's very normal.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: He goes on that two or three times a week, stays up all night and just does truth social posts.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's just incredible.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, but this has not been limited to social media.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: The administration has threatened tariffs on several European countries unless Denmark agrees to sell Greenland.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: to the United States.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: And these tariffs are starting at 10% he threatens 200% on France because of something that a manual Macron said.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: So especially U.S. envoy focused on Greenland policy has also been appointed prompting sharp push back from Danish leaders.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: The timing matters as well.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: These developments are unfolding alongside the World Economic Forum.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: This was the most anticipated speech by far.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: Trump just got done delivering it at the time of our recording of Wednesday, January 21st in the morning.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so we're going to talk about the rare earth minerals all that stuff, but then also at the same time it's important to be clear there's still no formal treaty purchase agreement or legislative process underway.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: What we're seeing is pressure and leverage not executed policy.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is all talk.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Every single part of it is all talk.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so we can't get ahead of ourselves like even with Trump's tariffs
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, certain things were scaled back, certain things were kept, and let's be honest, the tariffs did not deliver the type of blow to the economy that most people predicted.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: For some ways they've worked, and the American economy is still checking along.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: Some would argue, because of them, some would argue, well, in spite of them.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: So in the same way, we've got to remember that this is a common tactic that Trump uses.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: is he will take the stance of I'm going to build up the most possible lever just possible so I can cut a deal in the middle and then call it a win.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: Read his book.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: You not talked about this.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: Read the book.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: He just follows his own playbook pretty much every single time.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: The art of the deal book is out there when you're referencing the deal, right?
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's doing it again.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is all he's going to talk really big make all these threats and then he's probably going to pull back make some sort of deal.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: We get to put pieces on Greenland wherever we want to do the iron dome there stays within Mark.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: We'll just see what happens.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think because he did scale back in the speech, right?
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: He literally just scaled back the ominous threat of it because he always said, you know, all.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: the reporters.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: Can you rule out military force?
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: He would just never like answer the question.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: He always just says, we'll see.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: But he's everybody on their toes.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's to build leverage.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: But then now I'm thinking, is there some sort of already deal in the works?
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if there's not, he must have really had some pressure.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: from his cabinet, Scott Bescent, hey, man, the markets, they're freaking out, scale it down, right?
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: And we, I mean, we've seen him pivot, but I'm just thinking he did just turn down the temperature a little bit.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't expect him to do that until he had a deal in place.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: So he also said well he's on stage.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think he said he's got like these meetings lined up and he wants to meet with more European countries and negotiate while they are all there and can meet in the same room in Davos.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: So by the end of today, we might have a better understanding.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: He does.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: He does not sleep.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: My goodness.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so let's talk about what supporters and critics are saying.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, so supporters argue Greenland's location is essential for US and NATO security in the Arctic.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, rare earth minerals access could reduce western dependence on China.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: You and I have talked about rare earth minerals a lot, rare earth mineral mining.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: I made big believer in any possible way to lessen U.S. dependence on China.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: They can pull the plug anytime that they want and China feels the same way about the U.S. For example, the semiconductor's.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: The U.S. could all of a sudden tell Jinson Huang a video to stop selling the semiconductor's and China needs those right now because China is lagging behind in the AI battle.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: It seems right.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: So both countries need each other, but you don't want to depend on each other in that way either.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: And then supporters also argue that it could be deeper U.S. involvement which could bring investment infrastructure and economic opportunity there, and then it would just be a stronger Western presence that counters Chinese and Russian aggression, critics are arguing this, and these are all fair points.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Greenland is not for sale.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: they're saying this over and over and over and over and over and over again, right?
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: You can't really negotiate to sell it until the other side agrees to at least negotiate to sell it.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: So as of now, it's not for sale legally or morally.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: Secondly, sovereignty and greenlandic greenlander.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe green landing?
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, consent must come first.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and then treating land and people and transactional terms is risky.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you could call it dehumanization.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you could say, hey, is this a good look for midterms?
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Trump?
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, there's so much in the news about what's happening internationally.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: What about all the issues of Minnesota right now?
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: What about all the unrest here?
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: What about all the people that feel like they can't afford groceries and electric costs here at home?
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's a real point and it matters.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: And then finally, this strains alliances.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: And long-standing alliances, you know, and I go back and forth on that, you know, just like this concept of I do not want to strain alliances because at the end of the day NATO, European countries in America, they should stay strong.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: They should stay committed to one another, but it is not one for one.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: And like I think that we need to acknowledge that.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of NATO's strength is the United States is the foundation for NATO.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so there is this concept that you and I both been saying.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: Europe should be doing their fair share, asking European countries to step up their defense spending is not unrealistic and countries should learn to defend themselves, right?
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: But this is kind of me coming back to, I don't necessarily feel like the US needs to be the world's police all the time.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: And so how do you fix these things when you get countries to start taking care of themselves?
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: Is a thought that I'm having, but I also feel like it's a very fair point to say this is being taken too far.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: True.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, NATO.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's you're right.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: Every country should pay their fair share.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: The US is really this just the backer of NATO without the US.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's not nearly as powerful.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so all the European countries want to maintain their relationship with the US.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, we want our European allies should we ever end up in the conflict with Russia or China.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like you're gonna want the support of these
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: nation's a powerful military's big economies and everything to correct technology all that we're going to want that so i think everybody realizes that and it's trying to come to the table here and say let's slow down let's keep the piece here let's not divide ourselves we need a unity i think you're right this is more of a rupture as opposed to like a fracture like a rupture great word that's what the Canadian prime minister said in dobbos yesterday he said the u.s. is causing a rupture like he's saying we're not
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: completely destroy yet, but it's funny.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's funny Trump because I was I was reading the transcript and like watching a few clips like just before we were recording, but he referenced Carney specifically and he was like Mark Canada literally would not be here if it wasn't for the US.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Remember that.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: He said something along those lines, right?
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: Just in reference to him.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: which you could debate if that's true, but it's a little aggressive, but what's new?
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Let me give you a Christian perspective on power.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: So this is where scripture helps us slow the conversation down.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of, let's slow the conversation down world leaders.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, let's chill out a little bit.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: We should all be on the same side here.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm 241 says the earth is the Lord's and the fullness of the earth, the world and those who dwell therein.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: That verse reframes everything in my opinion.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: Land does not ultimately belong to nations.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: Resources do not belong to markets, people do not belong to power, everything belongs to God, ultimately.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: We have to remember that sometimes.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: Leaders are stewards, not owners.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: Influence is a responsibility before it's a tool.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: Whether if these leaders acknowledge their creator or not, again, we've talked about this, doesn't change the truth that I just said.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: Whether if it's acknowledged by them or not, it all belongs to God.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, Christians should be cautious about sharing strength without asking how it's used.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: Strategic interest matters, but moral stewardship, I think matters more.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Power without humility does carry a cost even when it appears effective.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: And we just have to remember that as believers.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: So here's the takeaway.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: Greenland does matter.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: The Arctic does matter.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: Global competition is real, safety and security for our nation and our allies is important.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say that right off the top.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: But if I'm honest, I don't have all the answers here, Connor.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: I see the arguments on both sides.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: I gave you what people are arguing for and against it.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: I understand why some see this as necessary leverage and I understand why others see this as a dangerous overreacher at least causing an issue where there doesn't need to be one.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm watching this playout in real time, just like you are, just like you are, loyal culture brief audience.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Okay?
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: What I do know is this, not every moment requires certainty.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Some moments call for clarity, restraint, and humility, and I think that this is one of those moments.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: So before we rush to conclusions,
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: let's take a deep breath.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say a prayer and remember who ultimately holds the world together.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: And remember that our God has a plan and purpose for all this.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: We can stay informed without being anxious.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you can do it.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: You can stay informed without being anxious.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: We can engage without being cynical.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: And we can trust that even when leaders posture and nations compete and and there's all this rhetoric and all this talk and all this competition, all this political theater, the earth still belongs to God and he still has a plan for it and he still has a plan for us.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: So from there, we move forward with wisdom, patience and with an open hand to God and say, I'm going to trust you, you have a plan for this.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, good god hasn't planned for everything and I guess we'll just see how this all plays out.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: It is happening day by day You know what they say about Davos?
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: What happens in Davos impacts the whole rest of the world because what he also made in Davos stays in Davos.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: Nope
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: It does it, it's, it's behind closed door meetings with the world's elite, most powerful CEOs and world leaders, and then it goes and impacts the rest of the world.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: So that's interesting too, right?
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: That the world's most powerful business leaders, political donors, people who are really shaping things, and the world's most powerful leaders of nations.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: They're all meeting together.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're all there.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually unbelievable.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure they have really good security Hopefully.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh the security isn't saying there and the private jet industry loves it.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I bet they do also the other big thing in Devils is AI A. I talk this week all the AI companies and leaders are there.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're all trying to figure out what's next.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: Okay
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: Micah, thank you for that.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: Greenland is an interesting thing.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: And if we ever take it over, I'm just trying to figure out how they're going to get Americans to move over to Greenland to start doing all this mining and stuff.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's literally just you want to make a chunk.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's not for me.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like Hoth from Star Wars and just not my cup of tea.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: We're in Texas for a reason.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: Some people will go.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate a lot of them.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: If you can go up there and do mining and work that there's going to be a lot of money in that a lot of free spirits in America You know all this rare earth stuff.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to let you get to your next one, but it's almost like It almost kind of feels like you know you start doing something like this.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: It could become like the next California gold rush or
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: all the all the oil that people were drilling for and finding just people wild cadding out there you know what I mean like just finding that next pocket of oil finding that gold in the same way you could see Americans searching for new opportunity in like rare earth mineral mining which would be interesting who knows it would be especially in just the coldest place on earth it would just be so different than California you know yep okay
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: Indianna football guys, they won the national championship on Monday night and I don't think it's wrong to say it's one of the biggest and best sport stories in sports history It's just an unreal story.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna tell you why here's the minute, but yeah, Mike is there like a nickname for this.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we call them like the Indiana Impossible or the Indiana Miracle
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: or something like that.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't seen anything yet, but I mean, we were just talking.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is probably the best sports story of our lifetime.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm likening it to like the miracle on ice when the American hockey team, 1980, beat the Soviet Union and they had like never beat them before or something like that.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm just thinking it's that level.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like there will be movies and kids will grow up hearing about this in the future.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they absolutely will.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: So just so you all are aware, the final score of the game was 27 to 21, the Indiana Hoosers and it's Indiana University, not the University of Indiana.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: We've been corrected on that.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: They beat me up in Miami University.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, truly, got down to the wire.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: Miami had a chance to win there at the last minute of the game, but Carson back there quarterback threw an interception right into Indiana's hands and that ended it and the people went wild.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: And America would just sat in shock because Indiana is one of the losingist worst programs in college for ball history I mean just a bismal.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: They have not played in a bowl game in one since 1991 and before that They'd only been in five of them.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean it's a bowl game and I mean if you go five hundred six and six you'll get put in a a bowl game you'll get put in the Marty's pretzel stick ball
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, seriously, my end and jiffy-loob oil change ball.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, seriously, like, they didn't win anything.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't go to any, no, man, the top bad they've been all this time.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's what makes it so shocking is the school that just was terrible.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: showed up and in two years went from a three and nine record in their season to going 16 and old this year completely I mean just utter domination in winning the national championship and there's a lot behind that and that's kind of what I want to dive into and if you're not a sports fan that's fine I think you'll still find some interesting stuff here because this is about
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: dedication and grit and working hard and recognizing what legacy is and having faith at the center of it.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: What you're working towards.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's just really cool.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is a unique story.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: Specifically around the head coach Kurt Signetti.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: He is just a bulldog man.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: He came in and he turned this program around and everybody in his locker room and on his staff respects him.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's got the college football world to step down and respect him.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's kind of taking the place of like a Nick Sabin who everybody just in a way.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: fear, revered, yeah, respected, but also loved.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like just the guy loves the game, loves his players, but you also respect him and revered him because of the way he carries himself, and the way he expects you to do what you're supposed to do as your job on the team or on the staff.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: Just got to point out also Fernando Mendoza.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: This is the quarterback who won the highsman this year.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: which is another crazy thing to say that Indiana would have a high-spin winner.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: But Mendoza was definitely the best player in college this year and then he really proved it in these playoff games.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: They played several of these playoff games and he just showed up in each one, dominated and then specifically in a risky play with nine minutes left to go in the game.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's fourth and five, they're down towards the end zone and Kurt Signetti says we're going to go for it.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to try to at least get the first down, but maybe we'll score a touchdown and he calls the quarterback run.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: And Fernando Mendoza and one of the most glorious plays I've ever seen is probably up there with the Vince young run in back in what was that, oh five for UT.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: Dude, he just he gets pounded by defenders all the way 12 yards.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: He rushes 12 yards getting pounded by defenders One of the best defenses in the country and leaps dives across the goal line into his own and it was clear at that moment Yep, they got this they got one the best quarterback in the country two they got this national championship in the bag and three Just so much hope like it and it's just unreal I'm gonna post some links to some videos of that play specifically like you know some cinematic music behind it that just gives it that drama
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: That you love to see, but yeah, my God, we just shocked.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, by this game like I think we talked about it like last week and kind of giving a quick prediction I had already kind of succumbed to the reality that Indiana football is spectacular all the sudden and that this was magical This was miracle like and I had no doubts that they were going to beat Miami, but at the same time I did think it was going to be a close game because Miami just has such a good defense and such a well coach team
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: college football even with all the NIL stuff.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's just so magical man.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: The college football playoffs were awesome.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: We got so many good games out of the college football playoff.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: Now that it's 12 teams play off like you get all of these rounds.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was just incredible.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: Just a great year for college football and just a great year for like just parody in the league You know, it's not like one of those blue chip programs that you'd expect at one at all It's Indiana and what we're talking about how Indiana University has like the largest alumni network in the country in the country Largest alumni base in the country and they still you know somebody who probably went to Indiana suggest
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: start talking about Indiana University and I'm sure somebody will walk up to you and gladly tell you who they are.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Now, maybe a couple of years ago, they would have kept it to themselves, but now they're on top of the world.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations, Hoosiers.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're coming out the woodwork to sell a lot of videos of people sitting in their homes when the intersection got caught and they all flip out in their homes You know, they're so excited.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's the first time they've ever had a moment like this right it's got a crazy But this is the new world man.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: This is NIL NIL the name image and likeness deals with these college players are a sign portal Yeah, transfer portal.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's changed the game coaches can build teams differently and they can be more kind of just dedicated to who they pick
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: and bring them in and say, you're a part of the scene, but you're going to do your role.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't, you can transfer out, you know, it's a different world and we can pay you a little bit or none at all.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: But we're going to go for a championship.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's really what Signetti did.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: See ya.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, Signetti himself, he got up on the stage.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: He said, we're now 16 to no.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're national champions at Indiana University.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: which I know a lot of people thought was never possible.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: He came into this program and just was expected to turn around a program and at least just become a winning program.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: But in two years, he did this.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: He took a team that went two and 10, two years ago, lost to Akron University, Akron, and quadruple over time.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: And now is one of the national championship.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, that changes the game for a lot of other schools.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: They want a coach who can come in and do the same thing.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: Even NFL teams are looking at this and saying, what did this guy do?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: to bring a team in and in two years there's something to it.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: This is unbelievable.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: 16 and now.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there is something to what he did.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: It needs to be studied and replicated.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: You're exactly right.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, they were left off.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: So getting himself was left off.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: I had his opening press conference when he first got hired two years ago.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: He said, I win.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: Just Google me and people laughed at him.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: They thought he was being legendary.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: Ridiculous and cocky and he came from.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: Stadust put the sunglasses on brother.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: You are cemented like just just a legend.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: Do there's all these Indiana fans got these shirts that just say Google me like that's it's like a it's like a phrase that they live by now.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like they know what that means Which is really cool and great for Signetti.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was a little cocky, but also he was saying I have a craft.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: I've I've pretty much mastered it down in the lower levels of the college ranks at James Madison University Elon University Some other small schools where he just built his way up to finally getting a higher to a bigger school, but the expectation was never this
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: but this is crazy.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I was curious how we did it.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: What's the science here?
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: And one person that I found interesting spoke into this, their largest donor to the football program is a former alumni.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: You might know him, Mr. Mark Cuban, first former owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Multi-Billionaire,
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: And so still he's a minority owner.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: He's not of the whole of former owner owner.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: He just has a minority stake And this is correct, but he's not he's not what he once was with the Mavericks.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, nonetheless He's given a good chunk of change to the NiL program in Indiana because he's like I see something with Signetti And I want to help him do this they still had a much smaller budget than all the other teams with their NiL deals including Miami Miami had double the budget essentially of their NiL
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: roster, which is crazy.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: So Mark Cuban was asked, how did the signal he did this, and he said, he doesn't look for the most hyped players, he doesn't get into bidding wars, he focuses on players who will know their role, have the right mental focus and produce.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: Players do Google him, they know he knows how to put together a winning team, it becomes a confirmation of their abilities when he recruits you.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: that has a lot of value, particularly for players who are not highly ranked.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: So he's finding these guys that are getting overlooked and he's saying, I think you've got something, but if you're going to come here, you're going to do your role.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to become your own personality here, even for Nando Mendoza who just won the high's been and will likely be the number one pick in the NFL draft.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: Understand, he has a role.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: This is not just him and his team.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be a part of what's going to happen here and he played his part man and he played it perfectly.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think we sent a message to society that if you keep your nose to the grindstone and work hard and you've got the right people, anything is possible.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: We've got the right people on our staff in the weight room, in the locker room, and we have great senior leadership and togetherness.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: There's just something about coming in, everybody's on the same mission, same page, and they're ready to work and do their part and work hard towards this goal.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: and they had that goal in their head all season and you know, I think we can apply that to our own lives with either our work or our families or our faith.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: What is our end goal instead of mind on it and really just chug away at that.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: Go, go towards that goal.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: Let's make it happen.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: Another thing.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Faith, man.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these guys on this team and then the coaching staff are just faithful and not just them.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: I will also point out that the Miami team, man, they got some faithful
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: He is a weekly attender to the St. Augustine parish there in Miami.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: His family is always around that and their church.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then Carson back the quarterback, you know, he's controversial and some of the things he says, but he's also declared that he feels like God has a plan and everything that he does.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: So even in losing, you know, God's plan is still taking place when your team loses Miami.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: God's plan is still taking place.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to take care of you, but you also get to see that in winning as well.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, first Corinthians 1031 says, so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do do it all to the glory of God and I'm saying that because after the game, after they just won the National Championship and they had the opportunity to point all the glory back to themselves specifically the quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who is now the star of just football right now.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: And even earlier this week, he was answering questions at a press conference and he said no one is perfect.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: The only person I think is perfect is my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: I know I have a lot of flaws.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: Just really cool here from a guy who, man, from a quarterback perspective, this dude's got like the perfect arm, body, mentality, but he's recognizing.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not perfect.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: Only god.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: I've got all the money at the pinnacle.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: He has humility at the pinnacle because he recognizes he has a creator.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: He has a god and he's created for a specific purpose.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: It does humble you.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: It does humble you.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: It really does.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: there's just so much to humility, there's so much to recognizing that God is blessed you with whatever position he's placed you in, whether that's a football team with a massive platform and these guys are using their huge platform to point back to Christ.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's going to have a massive impact.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: And it makes me think, you know, as I'm looking at this and like these guys, they've pulled off something incredible.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: This miracle, there's probably going to be a movie made one day about this.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully more success for Indiana down the road.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't just a
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: it's very possible.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: But what will we be remembered for?
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's something I think a lot of people question, including these guys.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: They're probably saying, what are we going to be remembered for?
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, this national championship in this season, they're going to be remembered for that.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, earthly accomplishments are something that our loved ones will recall one day when we passed, right?
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to be like, oh, he did this in this, but my God, I just always think about this.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: Those things do fade soon.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you can remember earthly accomplishments, but they don't stick around people's minds forever, and quite honestly, unless we've made some massive mark on history, our names are likely to be forgotten in just a few generations.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: Let me put it this way.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: Can you name the Heisman winner from 1964?
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: or what about the head coach of the national champion's ship team in 1977?
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: I know somebody listening, this is probably a massive college football fan or was around then and does have that ability to pull those names out from their mind.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: But majority of people, they can't.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's just Kurt Signetti, 50 years from now, that's a name that will mean something to those of us who were here.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: But he'll be forgotten.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's just the nature of the business, right?
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: So when we hear Mendoza give all the glory to God, I just think it's awesome.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: He recognizes his on that massive stage.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: And that incredible influence is there because God put him there.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: And so he is living in that moment that God has placed him in.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: And he's faithfully living in that moment.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: Because Mendoza will likely be forgotten a hundred years from now.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's just the truth of the matter.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: But the eternal impact that he's going to have through declarations of his faith,
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: to millions of people who are seeing this guy at the pinnacle of his career and of his stage saying, I give all the glory back to God, that's going to have an eternal impact that will be remembered in eternity, which I think is so cool.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: If someone comes to Christ through that, that's going to be a credible man.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: It would be so cool if that's the seed being planted, right?
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's what true legacy is.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just leave us with this.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: Colossians 3 23 24 says whatever you do work heartily as for the Lord and not for men.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: Knowing that from the Lord, you will receive the inheritance as your reward.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: You are serving the Lord Christ.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: So, awesome.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: As we go about our week, as we go toward and put our, our nose on the grindstone like Indiana did, towards whatever our work is and our family and our church and our friends and all that, would we remember that this is all for the glory of God.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: Stop for our own glory, you know?
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know a specific individual you just talked about.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: The most powerful person on the world that could probably use a dose of that truth because it would change everything.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I honestly probably a lot of people I Davos specifically could yeah, but no totally.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you Thanks for taking us through that corner.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: That was great, man Yeah, the Indiana story is is a beautiful one and there's a lot of lessons that we can learn from it Okay, so let's jump into our hot takes games section
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: So Connor, there's that 2016 trend going around right now.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: Should we post a picture of us together in 2016 when we were in college?
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: Should we do that?
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Should we give that to our loyal culture brief audience on Instagram?
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: Man, dude, we were, this is kind of like right as our friendship was like burgeoning, right?
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: We, yeah, we were freshman.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was a freshman college.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: You might have been a sophomore, right?
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: And we were starting to get to know each other's team.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: We would have been
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think so.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_00]: sophomores.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: At least in the spring semester.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're going to have to go and dig back and see if we can find a picture of the two of us together in 2016.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I'll post one.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say if we find one, I'll post it on Friday on our Instagram story.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: So go follow us on Instagram.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we've podcast.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we'll find one.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: We'll find one.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: We'll find one.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find one.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: using more than 60 factors to create a single power index score, the lower the score, the stronger the military.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: So it looks at manpower, equipment, fire power, defense, spending logistics, geography, industrial capacity, access to resources like oil.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: So in it doesn't factor in outside things, right?
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's all of those things, okay?
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: So I've got a list here of the top 10 most powerful militaries, Connor has promised to not look at this beforehand, Connor, how many of the top 10 can you name?
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: Of the tops and milliliters.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think clearly the United States.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: They're there number one.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's got to be number one I would guess yep.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: I would guess China's number two China's number three number three.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so then Russia's number two.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: I would put the UK up there UK's number six.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: Number six.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, man.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: Is India in there?
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, India's number four solely for manpower there is my thought is Turkey in there?
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: Turkey's number nine.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: Really.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: Wow number nine Brazil
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what about Francis?
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: Francis number seven.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, is Germany in there?
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: Germany is not in there.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_00]: Really, man.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: What a what a change of the times.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's not how it should be Japan.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_00]: Are they in there?
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: They're in there and they're in the right.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: How many left do I have?
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think you have two left.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: Two left.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Australia.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: So you got South Korea at number five in Italy at number 10.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: You did the rest.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: I gotta tell you what, Italy.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's the shocking one to me.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that they would be in there in Germany wouldn't be.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: But again, you know, there's a lot of different things.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure it kind of its access to the ocean probably plays a part in that.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: But fun fact, China has the largest military in the world by active personnel by a lot.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: to a certain extent, but it does not rank number one, the index weighs balance and sustainability, not just your troop count.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: So factors like global logistics, air, enable power and force readiness keep the US in the top spot.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: One thing I know China's trying to do is build more aircraft carriers because their navy is not as powerful as ours.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: They've got they got a long way to go, but, you know, we'll see.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we sure will.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that was fun.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: I learned a lot.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know all those countries were in the top 10.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's Italy.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: Man, that was going to throw me off for a while.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just shocked by that.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, something else like I said, I'm my post picture of us on on our Instagram story if we could buy one for 2016.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: Do the trend there, but also I'm a finer Instagram corner.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's at Colterreef Podcast.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Just go find at Colterreef Podcast on Instagram.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: You'll find this posting stories.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to try to post some polls on there.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: Look for one on Friday.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: We'll post a fun poll there and try to get some opinions.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: So go find us there or email us Colterreefaddinsonform.org if you have any questions or topic ideas.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_00]: We love to hear from you guys.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's jump into check and roll fast.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Rand.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: This is one of the things we've spoken on last week was everything bubbling up over there.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_00]: The near revolution that was happening and Trump was saying he was sending help, help us on the way.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we recorded last Wednesday and it really seemed like there was an attack by the U.S. about to happen on Iran and apparently Trump gave the stand-down order at some point during Wednesday because they were prepped and ready.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: The U.S. military was getting basically on the edge of the idea of an attack.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: And so they told everyone at the beginning on, they kind of go home.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: But then they said, nevermind, everybody go home after evacuating some bases in the Middle East.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: They started sending people back to there.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know if anything's going to happen now.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's some more military equipment and an aircraft carrier on their way to the region at this moment.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so maybe in the next few days or weeks, something does happen.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen Trump slow play some of these things before, including with Venezuela.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: But the protests have really stopped.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_00]: So at the end of the day, this whole thing that happened in Iran of two weeks of mass
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: It really needed something else from the outside to be the catalyst, I think, to get them to the next phase.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why people thought Trump was going to do it.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: And Israel was going to help out with that, too.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: And it just didn't happen.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it does now.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: And the people are more enthusiastic to come back out.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: But since the internet has been opened up a little bit more from my ring, we're getting some more videos of what was actually happening.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: It was really bad, man.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_00]: They were really just slaughtering people in the street.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: It was terrible.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: Just awful.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, something else, Micah.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: Where are the Epstein files?
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, genuinely, like, we got some.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: But the Justice Department has said that they've really only made available like 1% of the files that they have.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: The deadline was December 19th.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: And people were started to call this out.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: And there's saying, a lot of people think that this whole Greenland thing invented his way of it, and everything is just one big distraction to try to get everybody off the Epstein files because that was really hot in December.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: And now it's kind of died down.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just like,
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: is anybody going to enforce this law?
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: If so, who does it?
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: How do we make sure the victims are still out there trying to say, guys, help us here.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: We got to get these, we got to get these files out and bring justice to people.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we were abusing us.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, so we'll see.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll see.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: I do think they'll eventually be released, but it is taking a while and then whenever they're fully released, again, like I've said, I don't think people are going to be satisfied because conspiracy theorists never are.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_01]: But they should release them.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, even legally, they're being obligated to release them.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully it's sooner or later, asking to kind of check in on, you know, we've talked a lot about what's going on in Minnesota.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: I've got just a few things that are happening there still.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: So first of all, tensions in Minnesota remain elevated as as all of these protests or continue following recent ice-related incidents.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: Prompting the Pentagon, they've placed roughly 1,500 soldiers from the Army's 11th Airborne Division on standby.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_01]: and a precautionary move amid the talk of invoking the insurrection act.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: Trump is floated it, but said he's probably not going to do it.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: And at the same time, the Department of Justice is pursuing subpoenas, or indictments actually tied to the protest activity, and is investigating the storming of a church that was in the middle of its worship service, where demonstrated interrupted services over alleged immigration enforcement connections.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: Don Lemon, I mean, it was these crazy videos, storming in on people in the middle of
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: that is one step too far.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: That is not good at all.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: There is a lot of that tied into the first amendment and a lot of arguments around it.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: That is illegal from what I'm understanding and just personally did not like seeing it at all.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: That is too far.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and Don Lim is getting a lot of heat because he's saying I was a journalist.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_00]: He should be a lot of heat.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: He was taking coffee and donuts to the to the protesters who he was going to talk right up to the pastor when he was giving his sermon.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, yeah, well, they don't waste there.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's people shouting in their in their sanctuary and he's trying to interview this pastor who's just trying to get order back into his church.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's trying to protect his flock.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, what is going on here?
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: These people have just invaded this church service, which I do not like at all.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: I can't imagine sitting in Sunday church service.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: and these protesters just come in and think they own this situation and that their protests matters more than God.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's ultimately what it comes down to and some of the things they were saying to these people in the fuse was awful kids in there.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: Kids are crying.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: It was not a good scene, man.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what's going to come out of that, but it definitely got great.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know what else I saw about Minnesota right before we hopped on this with this big weather system coming in that I like half the country's about to get blanketed with ice and snow this weekend So stay warm everybody and stay safe, but I just saw that Minnesota has a warning out for exploding trees from the coldness.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_00]: No Be worried about trees literally green.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: As if Minnesota doesn't have enough going on goodness gracious.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: They got lots of sounds out there.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, shout to you Minnesota All right guys tune in real fast
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: The only thing I think that we've got going on this weekend besides this massive weather storm, I think we're all going to be indoors all weekend is obviously the AFC and the NFC championships and the NFL playoffs.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: Micah, you're Super Bowl prediction lives on you, well, the one from last week, not our preseason predictions.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think you said the C Hawks versus the Patriots.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that lives on mine.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: I had the bills in the bear's.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_00]: The bear's game was incredible.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Williams.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: You don't literally picked no one who's going to make it right.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: So you've got the AFC.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: Got the Patriots versus the Broncos on Sunday at two o'clock Easter time.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then on Sunday, you got the NFC Championship.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: Los Angeles Rams versus the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at 530 Eastern Times.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: So tune in for that and enjoy some football.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for joining us for this week's episode of Culture Brief Adinison Forum Podcast.
