- 0:02Speaker 1: What's up, everybody, and welcome to JFK Book Reviews, a
- 0:04Speaker 1: division of the Lone Gum and Podcast. I'm Rob Clark,
- 0:07Speaker 1: along with me as usual Joe Barelli, and today we're
- 0:11Speaker 1: going to be reviewing the book Oswald the Truth by
- 0:15Speaker 1: Joe Kim Jostin or Jokim Yostin or however these dan
- 0:21Speaker 1: these people pronounced their names. This book was published in
- 0:26Speaker 1: nineteen and sixty seven by Peter down A Limited of
- 0:31Speaker 1: London for the English version. As mister Jostin is a foreigner,
- 0:38Speaker 1: his books were published in German and Dutch, first in
- 0:43Speaker 1: French and Spanish and all kinds of stuff. This book
- 0:47Speaker 1: clocks in at three hundred and seventy two pages. It
- 0:50Speaker 1: does include a forward by the author and a conclusion
- 0:54Speaker 1: by the author and a small index section. There are
- 0:58Speaker 1: three parts to this book that is divided up into
- 1:01Speaker 1: thirty five different chapters, and it covers a vast array
- 1:06Speaker 1: of subjects, but focuses mainly on the position and theory
- 1:13Speaker 1: of the tewod Oswald before it was popular. With that
- 1:19Speaker 1: being said, you know joking. Jostin, like I said, he
- 1:23Speaker 1: was born in Germany in nineteen oh seven and he
- 1:26Speaker 1: attended universities in France and Spain. So this guy was
- 1:31Speaker 1: a world traveler and he wrote many other books about
- 1:33Speaker 1: the assassination, including one that was published before the Warrant
- 1:37Speaker 1: Commission even published its report, before the investigation was done.
- 1:41Speaker 1: This guy was on it.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, which is crazy. It's crazy, and it caused
- 1:48Speaker 2: some problems because mister Richard Holmes thought it was such
- 1:54Speaker 2: a problem. He wrote to Jay Lee Reagan, of course,
- 1:57Speaker 2: the General Council of the Warren Commission, talking about this
- 2:01Speaker 2: book and saying how mister Jostine was a comedy in
- 2:08Speaker 2: Germany since nineteen thirty two, trying to discredit him right away.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Yeah, but he had a good theory when it came
- 2:16Speaker 1: to posting his stuff. He was a journalist by trade,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and he would send newsletters to various publishing companies and
- 2:24Speaker 1: news outlets and media outlets in the United States and
- 2:27Speaker 1: around the world to promote his book and get the
- 2:30Speaker 1: word out there. Now, this is what the book looks like, folks,
- 2:36Speaker 1: nice beautiful, simple green cover. And unfortunately, at the time
- 2:44Speaker 1: of this recording, it is not available on Amazon. It
- 2:48Speaker 1: is not available in places of like a Books or
- 2:51Speaker 1: thrift books or anywhere that we could find but but
- 2:59Speaker 1: we do have have a PDF copy. So if you're
- 3:01Speaker 1: a channel member or subscriber to our channel and you
- 3:04Speaker 1: would like a copy for gratise, feel free to email
- 3:09Speaker 1: the d lonegumanpodcast at gmail dot com and we'll be
- 3:14Speaker 1: more than happy to hook you up with this because,
- 3:17Speaker 1: as you can see, we're fans, so Joe, with that
- 3:21Speaker 1: being said, take us into the meet and entaters if
- 3:26Speaker 1: you will please, Sestion.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Sure, and this book definitely has a conspiracy lean to it,
- 3:33Speaker 2: and as you mentioned it is it does have three parts.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Part one focusing on the false Oswalt who is Larry Crayford,
- 3:50Speaker 2: and he has three chapters on Crayford. Enter Larry Crayford.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Chapter three, Jack Rebe's favorite chapter.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Chapter four, A Murky Background, goes into depth into Crayford's
- 4:05Speaker 2: past and highlights the relationship between Crayford and Ruby and
- 4:10Speaker 2: how it was far more significant than the War Commission portrayed.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And I'm just going to read a small snippet from this.
- 4:21Speaker 2: The well established fact that Crayford was there is one
- 4:26Speaker 2: of the premises of what now becomes an escapable conclusion.
- 4:31Speaker 2: The other premise is not is the no less well
- 4:34Speaker 2: established fact that Lee Harvey Oswald at that hour on
- 4:39Speaker 2: that morning was asleep at the home of Ruth Payne
- 4:42Speaker 2: and Irving Texas. Oswald there four could not be the
- 4:46Speaker 2: person the waitress saw at the B and B Cafe
- 4:50Speaker 2: with Ruby the night before the assassination. Adding it all up,
- 4:55Speaker 2: not a shred of doubt can be left. Not only
- 4:58Speaker 2: have we established the existence of a false Oswalt, but
- 5:01Speaker 2: also even more important fact that this man was Larry Crayford.
- 5:08Speaker 2: That has another chapter, Exit Crayford, which is Jack Ruby's
- 5:15Speaker 2: probably least favorite chapter, which details Crayford's suspicious fleeing of
- 5:21Speaker 2: Dallas the morning after the assassination. And so that's Part one.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Most of what Part one talks about is Crayford. And
- 5:29Speaker 2: we had a great episode on Larry Crayford two weeks ago.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I suggest you listen and go check that out. Part
- 5:36Speaker 2: two talks about the case against the Dallas Police, how
- 5:39Speaker 2: evidence was tampered with, talks about switching rifles and the
- 5:45Speaker 2: brazen lies of some DPD officers. Talks a little b
- 5:51Speaker 2: about the Typic murder hoax, and Part three the case
- 5:57Speaker 2: against the FBI and the Secret Service. So you know,
- 6:04Speaker 2: the author asserts in this book that Oswald was not
- 6:07Speaker 2: a genuine Marxist or defector, but an undercover operative for
- 6:11Speaker 2: the CIA and later the FBI. Jostine suggests Oswald's trip
- 6:15Speaker 2: to the Soviet Union was a CIA assignment now of
- 6:18Speaker 2: voluntary defection, and that he was manipulated by intelligence agencies.
- 6:23Speaker 2: The author points to right wing political Texas oil millionaires,
- 6:31Speaker 2: the far right such as the John Burke Society, and
- 6:35Speaker 2: elements within the CIA, FBI, and the DPD that were
- 6:42Speaker 2: involved in the plot, and highlights a bunch of discrepancies
- 6:48Speaker 2: in witness testimonies, specifically those of Larry Crayford and Jack Ruby.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So I personally loved how he honed in on Larry
- 7:00Speaker 2: Crayford in the early chapters, and I thought, I thought, he,
- 7:07Speaker 2: you know, with the with the amount of evidence available
- 7:10Speaker 2: at the time, which is literally just the Warrant Commission,
- 7:13Speaker 2: I thought he did a great job at just deciphering
- 7:18Speaker 2: and kind of honing in on the very suspicious characters
- 7:23Speaker 2: like within the DPD for example, and others. And let's see,
- 7:32Speaker 2: and yeah, the book is extremely well written. It's very
- 7:37Speaker 2: easy to read and follow along with the author's arguments.
- 7:42Speaker 2: In terms of the sourcing you mentioned, it has an index.
- 7:45Speaker 2: It does not have an end note sections as we
- 7:49Speaker 2: like to see, but he does include documents and letters
- 7:54Speaker 2: within the chapters. He does have an epilogue section at
- 8:00Speaker 2: about fifteen pages and and has some pictures in there
- 8:06Speaker 2: as well. So with that being said, I will hand
- 8:14Speaker 2: it back over to you, sir for your thoughts and rating.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Thank you, Joe. Now, part of the reason that he
- 8:22Speaker 1: doesn't have an EndNote section is because he specifically names
- 8:32Speaker 1: certain people. He's not afraid to name certain people and
- 8:36Speaker 1: accuse them of certain things because that's his suspicion, that's
- 8:42Speaker 1: his conclusion. And the guy's got some big nuts. Because
- 8:47Speaker 1: you know, the reason he does this is because, hey,
- 8:50Speaker 1: if you want to assume me, let's go to court.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Let's take this thing to court. Let's expect you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: this is court is where things come out. Yeah, and
- 8:58Speaker 1: you have to prove that what I said about you
- 9:01Speaker 1: is not true. So a lot of people did not
- 9:06Speaker 1: take him up on the offer. In fact, nobody in
- 9:09Speaker 1: any of his books that he specifically names and accuses
- 9:13Speaker 1: things of ever had a lawsuit against this guy, which
- 9:20Speaker 1: should tell you something. I don't know what, but you know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: maybe they just didn't want to go through all the
- 9:26Speaker 1: headaches and spend the money.
- 9:28Speaker 2: And the discovery most importantly.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And I don't know about the libel laws back in
- 9:34Speaker 1: the day. You know, you know today you might be
- 9:37Speaker 1: able to get away with it saying that, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 1: because of his notoriety, Crayford was a public figure and
- 9:44Speaker 1: you could certainly say things about him like this. But
- 9:48Speaker 1: I don't know about the laws back then, but certainly interesting.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And I don't think Crayford was a heavy reader at all,
- 9:59Speaker 1: or I don't even if you couldn't read. Yeah, I
- 10:01Speaker 1: don't even know if you never knew about this book existing,
- 10:05Speaker 1: which is which, which is crazy because you know he
- 10:08Speaker 1: kind of drops out after the Jack Ruby trial and
- 10:11Speaker 1: until the nineties.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, or or even knew what defamation.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Means, yeah, or diffcation. Yeah. But again, if you ever
- 10:23Speaker 1: see this book any used bookstore or their library and
- 10:28Speaker 1: you stumble across it, grab it, grab it and take
- 10:32Speaker 1: it and run, because it's definitely gonna be worth some money.
- 10:37Speaker 1: And look, I'm a fan, big fan of this guy. Uh,
- 10:45Speaker 1: very early pioneer and authorship about various aspects of the
- 10:51Speaker 1: Kennedy assassination, including alternate theories which he runs down, which
- 10:56Speaker 1: is very intriguing. I believe it's one of the first
- 10:59Speaker 1: people to put out all the oddities of Captain Westbrook
- 11:02Speaker 1: and James Hosty as well. So a very very great
- 11:08Speaker 1: read for me. It's one of my favorite books ever
- 11:11Speaker 1: written about the assassination. It's brave, it's bold, and it
- 11:16Speaker 1: throws a giant middle finger up at the anti conspiracy
- 11:22Speaker 1: loan nut establishment and I like that, sue me. So
- 11:29Speaker 1: with that being said, this book gets nine middle fingers up,
- 11:37Speaker 1: guns up, whatever you want to call them. Nine guns
- 11:39Speaker 1: up out of ten from your boy, Joe.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Wow, that's a very uh, that's a that's a good score.
- 11:49Speaker 2: And I am. I'm right there with you for nineteen
- 11:55Speaker 2: sixty seven, considering really the Warrant Commission is the only
- 11:59Speaker 2: documentation you have to you can go off of, and
- 12:04Speaker 2: the fact that he nails down Crayford as and the
- 12:08Speaker 2: first one too, as the probably the I had the
- 12:15Speaker 2: majority of the sighting the alighted to Ruby Oswald sightings
- 12:19Speaker 2: that were almost certainly Crayford. So I give him a
- 12:23Speaker 2: bunch of respect to And I think the fact that
- 12:27Speaker 2: Helms wrote Ranking before the Warrant Commission was even released,
- 12:35Speaker 2: concerned about this guy gives him some some credibility, So
- 12:42Speaker 2: I am going to give this a very solid eight
- 12:45Speaker 2: point five guns up right on.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Thank you, Joe. And if you dug this show, you
- 12:59Speaker 1: are really going to dig the podcast that we do
