- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The rex was
- 0:06Speaker 2: not chasing the jeep. Murray Murry, you there, you love sandwiches. Huh,
- 0:11Speaker 2: let's go to eighty.
- 0:13Speaker 1: He was bo wow that Prime Time. Maybe I had
- 0:18Speaker 1: a crush on Betty Rubbell.
- 0:19Speaker 3: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 3: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan Coachman was black.
- 0:25Speaker 1: He caught them the game last night. Although they won
- 0:28Speaker 1: the game. You're listening just to Gotson Company.
- 0:31Speaker 3: It is te Gotson Company, presented by FanDuel and the
- 0:34Speaker 3: FanDuel Sportsbook. Taylor has his Knick jersey on, as he
- 0:37Speaker 3: says he has a lot on Wemby the knickser up
- 0:39Speaker 3: won to nothing in the NBA Finals.
- 0:42Speaker 1: This is very exciting.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Three wins away from an NBA Championship in New York City.
- 0:49Speaker 3: At the Mecca, Taylor said he could carry us until
- 0:53Speaker 3: five pm today, and lord knows after yesterday I needed
- 0:56Speaker 3: and so Taylor, I am tempted to let you talk
- 0:58Speaker 3: here until five pm.
- 1:00Speaker 1: But my guess he's saying, bring it up, give me
- 1:02Speaker 1: the ball, the rock. So here I am.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I'm giving tailor the rock I am Josh Hart and
- 1:10Speaker 3: I'm giving the rock to Jalen Brunson. Go ahead, let
- 1:12Speaker 3: me know if you need a screen, otherwise, I'll be
- 1:14Speaker 3: in the corner.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Perfect.
- 1:17Speaker 5: I have not been to sleep yet since this game ended.
- 1:20Speaker 5: I have probably replayed the full game highlights maybe five times.
- 1:25Speaker 5: I'm on about my six rewatch right now. All right,
- 1:29Speaker 5: Knicks fans, we used to be in these situations waiting
- 1:34Speaker 5: for the worst, not the finals per se, but just
- 1:36Speaker 5: waiting for the other shoe to drop.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Not anymore.
- 1:38Speaker 5: And it's because Game one it came down to one
- 1:41Speaker 5: simple thing. The Knicks have Jalen Brunson. The Spurs don't.
- 1:46Speaker 5: The Spurs, oh, they have Victor wembin Yama. He's unbelievable.
- 1:49Speaker 5: He's an alien, he's a unicorn, he's a video game character. Fine,
- 1:54Speaker 5: but when there's two minutes left in Game one of
- 1:56Speaker 5: the NBA Finals and somebody has to make plays, there's
- 1:59Speaker 5: only one person in this series that has earned that
- 2:02Speaker 5: level of trust. It's Jalen Brunson. You can feel it.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Every Nick fan could feel it. San Antonio knew what
- 2:08Speaker 5: was gonna happen. Jalen Brunson walked into San Antonio look,
- 2:11Speaker 5: the Spurs dead in the eyes, stole home court advantage.
- 2:15Speaker 5: And here's what the rest of the NBA is learning
- 2:18Speaker 5: right now. Knicks fans are not surprised by what we're watching.
- 2:22Speaker 5: We're nervous. Yes, it's the NBA Finals where the Knicks.
- 2:25Speaker 5: After all, we're gonna be nervous. But surprise no, because
- 2:28Speaker 5: when Jalen Brunson has the ball late, we expect something
- 2:32Speaker 5: good to happen. We spent the better part of almost
- 2:35Speaker 5: three decades praying that somebody would save our franchise, and
- 2:41Speaker 5: then incomes Jalen Brunson and Stu Gotts. We are three
- 2:45Speaker 5: games away.
- 2:46Speaker 1: From an NBA so.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Much dribbling, and you're eleven hours away from five PM.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I thought you could take us till five. I mean,
- 2:51Speaker 1: what are you doing?
- 2:52Speaker 5: All right, let's open the call lines back Caucus. What
- 2:56Speaker 5: do you got.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Taylor? I would like to know.
- 3:00Speaker 6: I have a few questions for Taylor. This is like
- 3:02Speaker 6: Wake and Bacon. First we interviewed Taylor, so go ahead, dude.
- 3:06Speaker 1: No, go ahead? Is he I want to go ahead
- 3:08Speaker 1: interview Taylor.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I want to hear this, but I wanted to get
- 3:10Speaker 3: to Mikey saying the game made me realize something about myself.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I didn't want to. That's a tease. It's a teas.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Is he you a Taylor? And we'll get back to
- 3:18Speaker 1: Mikey in.
- 3:19Speaker 6: Just a second here, all right, Taylor, Jalen Brunson, was
- 3:22Speaker 6: it first quarter where he went down with the knee situation?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Was that second quarter?
- 3:26Speaker 5: I believe it was the first quarter.
- 3:28Speaker 3: It was first quarter, it was and second quarter with
- 3:32Speaker 3: the ankle, So you're right, okay, so first quarter Jalen
- 3:35Speaker 3: Brunson takes that hit.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Before you even saw a.
- 3:38Speaker 6: Replay, I want to know what your thoughts were when
- 3:40Speaker 6: you see him grabbing at his knee and leaving the floor.
- 3:44Speaker 5: I was ready to concede the tuititle right.
- 3:46Speaker 1: There, yeah, right there in the mall, man, that's all
- 3:48Speaker 1: you were feelings. Man.
- 3:50Speaker 5: He goes to the bench, He goes to the bench,
- 3:53Speaker 5: and then the worst shot you could see as a
- 3:56Speaker 5: fan player in the tunnel walking back to the locker room.
- 4:00Speaker 5: That shot always makes your heart just drop out of
- 4:04Speaker 5: your chest. Once Jalen Brunson came back on the bench
- 4:07Speaker 5: and they were looking at his knee there, then I
- 4:10Speaker 5: was kind of relieved because you would assume he wouldn't
- 4:13Speaker 5: come all the way back to the bench if he
- 4:15Speaker 5: wasn't gonna go play. But Jalen Brunson, Man, the only
- 4:19Speaker 5: two words you need to say.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Today is he I was out walking the dog last
- 4:22Speaker 3: night when Brunson went out, and by walking the dog,
- 4:25Speaker 3: well you know what.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I was doing.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And so all I got was a text from from
- 4:31Speaker 3: my wife saying Brunson out hurt. I'm just gonna read
- 4:35Speaker 3: right off the text exchange here I go.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Fuck.
- 4:40Speaker 3: She wrote my daughter literally, what the fuck she's invested too?
- 4:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Abby rights like Aaron Rodgers out first game
- 4:53Speaker 3: kind of fuck.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Wow man, rad Angel.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Writes, OMG, follow by a fuck, and then I wrote back,
- 5:04Speaker 3: we're done. Series over. That's a wrap spurs in five.
- 5:08Speaker 3: And then I walked back in and Bruntson's playing on
- 5:10Speaker 3: the court.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I mean, I'm like, I'm never gonna trust the three
- 5:14Speaker 1: of you again, and enough of the f BOMs. And
- 5:16Speaker 1: they said we learned him from you, dad. My Mike
- 5:20Speaker 1: Ye stole my exact thought.
- 5:22Speaker 6: So I saw Jalen leave the floor and I went
- 5:25Speaker 6: through the roller coaster. I was like, well, that's the series.
- 5:27Speaker 6: This is gonna be boring. And then I saw the
- 5:29Speaker 6: replay and I was like, oh, no, I think he
- 5:33Speaker 6: just has to go to the bathroom. I think this
- 5:35Speaker 6: is a Paul Pierce situation. Bring out the wheelchair. Check
- 5:38Speaker 6: that guy's shorts, because he's not really hurt. There's no
- 5:42Speaker 6: way that that was that bad where he had to go.
- 5:44Speaker 6: So as soon as I saw him back on the
- 5:46Speaker 6: on the sideline and I was like, see, this is
- 5:48Speaker 6: gonna be Jaalen Brunson's you know whatever, tough it out game.
- 5:51Speaker 6: He's gonna be great. And then when I saw the
- 5:53Speaker 6: ankle injury, I was like, oh god, because I actually
- 5:57Speaker 6: sent Taylor a text and I said Initially I said
- 6:01Speaker 6: something like absolute disaster, and then I said, oh, never mind,
- 6:04Speaker 6: he's fine. And as I'm sending send on that tailor,
- 6:08Speaker 6: that's when he turned his ankle Jalen. And then they
- 6:10Speaker 6: showed the replane, it looked like he sort of turned
- 6:12Speaker 6: it to the inside, and I was like, that could
- 6:14Speaker 6: be really bad. And then he was fine, and so
- 6:17Speaker 6: I feel like the Knicks have nothing to worry about
- 6:19Speaker 6: for the rest of the series.
- 6:20Speaker 1: That was the big scare when the ankle happened. My
- 6:22Speaker 1: daughter's just texted, be fuck.
- 6:26Speaker 5: I think the ankle one was les Mouths was the
- 6:30Speaker 5: ankle one felt less like an injury and more slid
- 6:34Speaker 5: that Brunson was upset that it looked like Corneck kind
- 6:37Speaker 5: of stepped on his ankle, and the way he got
- 6:40Speaker 5: up and reacted towards Scott Fosser was more like, hey,
- 6:44Speaker 5: you guys are giving us a pretty bad whistle tonight,
- 6:47Speaker 5: like you please please. Like they have a seven foot
- 6:51Speaker 5: four guy, he doesn't need every competitive advantage that he
- 6:54Speaker 5: can get.
- 6:56Speaker 1: So yeah, I thought he spent too much time on
- 6:58Speaker 1: the rest last night.
- 6:59Speaker 3: No, but is he I mean Cornett, that happens, right,
- 7:01Speaker 3: Brunson goes up, he's playing defense, He's trying to stop
- 7:04Speaker 3: one of the most unstoppable guys in the NBA, and
- 7:07Speaker 3: he comes down at his ankle, and Brunson was upset.
- 7:09Speaker 3: But I don't think it was intentional. I don't think
- 7:11Speaker 3: he was trying to do that. I think Brunston was
- 7:12Speaker 3: just frustrated that he has been hurt not once but
- 7:15Speaker 3: twice now in Game one of the NBA Finals, and
- 7:18Speaker 3: so he just.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Frustrated in that moment.
- 7:20Speaker 3: But you're claiming here, and I don't want to gloss
- 7:21Speaker 3: over this too quickly, you and Mikey a. You are
- 7:24Speaker 3: saying that Jalen Brunson's first injury was not an injury.
- 7:27Speaker 3: He simply had to go to the bathroom and use
- 7:30Speaker 3: the injury as an excuse to get himself to the bathroom.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I wasn't claiming that's what it was.
- 7:36Speaker 7: It was when Taylor said, the worst thing you see
- 7:38Speaker 7: is when your player is in the tunnel and at
- 7:40Speaker 7: that moment, you're just praying it's he's got to take
- 7:42Speaker 7: a shit. That's the only like you're just going, oh man,
- 7:46Speaker 7: just let this be diarrhea. That's the only thing that'll
- 7:49Speaker 7: make this okay.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:50Speaker 6: I'm claiming that's where my thought went because I just
- 7:53Speaker 6: knew that that wasn't enough of an injury to get
- 7:56Speaker 6: him keep him out of the game. Now, you know,
- 7:58Speaker 6: you go to the back. You gotta be careful, you
- 8:00Speaker 6: gotta check yourself out. But I would say if he
- 8:02Speaker 6: had it, if he would to be honest with himself,
- 8:04Speaker 6: he would have said, I didn't need to go back
- 8:06Speaker 6: to the locker room.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I was fine.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Yeah, Mikey, you said that game made me realize something
- 8:10Speaker 3: about myself.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I didn't want to what is that.
- 8:12Speaker 7: Thing so Taylor, Have I ever texted you during a
- 8:18Speaker 7: Knicks game about anything related to the game.
- 8:22Speaker 5: No, not that I know, not that exactly.
- 8:25Speaker 7: So last night I probably typed out three texts to you,
- 8:30Speaker 7: and they were all kind of rubbing salt in a wound.
- 8:34Speaker 7: Like when Jalen Brunson went hurt, I was I had
- 8:37Speaker 7: a text typed out that said you better start looking
- 8:41Speaker 7: for alien tattoos. I didn't press send. And then later
- 8:44Speaker 7: when Jalen Brunson couldn't buy a bucket in the fourth quarter,
- 8:47Speaker 7: for a while, I was like, this is the guy
- 8:49Speaker 7: that's changing your life, but I didn't press send, and
- 8:52Speaker 7: I just realized I'm an asshole, Like.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I like, I never have.
- 8:58Speaker 7: Texted you once, but I'm to sit there and go, ha,
- 9:01Speaker 7: he probably needs this right now.
- 9:03Speaker 1: No.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I was able to stop myself from actually pressing sen right.
- 9:07Speaker 4: But man, I wish I didn't know that.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Yeah, the alien tattoo because he has a bet with
- 9:13Speaker 3: Michelle Beadle. If the Spurs lose this series, Taylor has
- 9:17Speaker 3: to get a tattoo. And if the Knicks win the series.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I got it wrong.
- 9:21Speaker 6: Does about the same thing if the Spurs losing the
- 9:23Speaker 6: Knicks win is the same result.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Well, yeah, well it's a good point. Thank you.
- 9:26Speaker 3: See, I'm tired long night. I mean, seriously, I've been
- 9:29Speaker 3: like Taylor. I haven't slut the entire evening because I
- 9:33Speaker 3: have watched all the highlights back seven times.
- 9:36Speaker 1: He's only watched it five. Wait until he gets the seven.
- 9:39Speaker 3: But if the Knicks win, Beatle has to get a tattoo,
- 9:42Speaker 3: and if the Spurs win, the Taylor has to get
- 9:45Speaker 3: a tattoo. And Mikey wanted to send that textairly thinking
- 9:47Speaker 3: the series was over, and he showed.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Some restraint, but yes, he is an asshole.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Yeah, and who needs haters when I've got friends like
- 9:54Speaker 5: like mike Ye, who who has been the first person
- 9:59Speaker 5: to down play this Knicks run, this entire postseason as
- 10:03Speaker 5: a proclaimed Knicks fan. And then the only thing on
- 10:07Speaker 5: the menu tonight for mike Ya is some capitulation because
- 10:11Speaker 5: the Knicks are three wins away from.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Even Hey, so all right, Taylor had his iso, STU
- 10:20Speaker 6: had a little time with the ball.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Mikey and I had a little time with the ball.
- 10:24Speaker 6: Taylor, would you like to continue or would you like
- 10:26Speaker 6: to talk some hoops?
- 10:27Speaker 1: You want me to fire some questions at you?
- 10:30Speaker 5: The last thing I have to say, there has never
- 10:33Speaker 5: been a better three point game in NBA history than
- 10:36Speaker 5: Josh Hart last night.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Oh it was amazing. Yes, and I'll start there.
- 10:41Speaker 6: This to me was a Mike Brown type of game,
- 10:44Speaker 6: right because he had.
- 10:45Speaker 1: To make some decisions.
- 10:47Speaker 6: Now, did you realize everybody that Landry Shamman played thirty
- 10:51Speaker 6: three minutes, which is more than Michal Bridges, more than
- 10:54Speaker 6: Josh Hart, more than ogn and Obie Like he was
- 10:57Speaker 6: making some decisions out there, Mike was that was just like, Hey,
- 11:00Speaker 6: what's working for us is working and I'm gonna.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Stick to it.
- 11:02Speaker 6: If you look at like the people that were, you know,
- 11:05Speaker 6: available for the Spurs and played well in that series,
- 11:08Speaker 6: you had Kelden Johnson off the bench, you had Carter
- 11:10Speaker 6: Brian having a couple of moments, you know, Luke Cornett.
- 11:13Speaker 6: It feels like in this series the Spurs sort of
- 11:17Speaker 6: bench guys, the Carter Bryant, Kelvin Johnson's gonna really have
- 11:19Speaker 6: to show me something because he's been you know, sort
- 11:23Speaker 6: of unimpressive more often than he has been you know,
- 11:26Speaker 6: six Men of the Year type of impressive. But it
- 11:28Speaker 6: looks like right now they've only got one guy off
- 11:30Speaker 6: the bench they can really rely on, and that's Dylan Harper.
- 11:33Speaker 6: And so I look at what Mike Brown is doing,
- 11:35Speaker 6: and he's just being smart about it, sort of distributing minutes,
- 11:38Speaker 6: keeping things, you know, difficult for the Spurs to figure out.
- 11:43Speaker 6: And when you've got the bonus of victor women, ya'ma
- 11:45Speaker 6: having a bad game.
- 11:46Speaker 1: It just felt like Mike Brown was pulling all the
- 11:48Speaker 1: right levers.
- 11:49Speaker 5: The two biggest differences between Tibbs and Mike Brown so
- 11:53Speaker 5: far have been one the point you just made is
- 11:56Speaker 5: he that Mike Brown's willingness to go to the bench
- 12:00Speaker 5: and trust a deeper rotation when you get into the
- 12:03Speaker 5: playoffs where somebody like Jose Alvarado plays eleven minutes, but
- 12:07Speaker 5: the minutes Jose Alvarado gave you we're huge. He hit
- 12:09Speaker 5: some big shots. Hit that one layup where he gets
- 12:13Speaker 5: the ball to the backboard before Wemby could come over
- 12:16Speaker 5: and block that reverse layup. Landry Shamman's been a guy
- 12:19Speaker 5: who's been in and out of the rotation at times,
- 12:21Speaker 5: but lately in the playoffs, Mike Brown is showing a
- 12:25Speaker 5: trust to him. And then the other biggest difference between
- 12:27Speaker 5: Tibbs and Mike Brown, which is weird coming from Tibbs,
- 12:31Speaker 5: but it felt like the talk with the Tibbs team
- 12:34Speaker 5: was you can't win with Jalen Brunson as a defender.
- 12:38Speaker 5: Paired with Kat as a defender. They're just two bad
- 12:41Speaker 5: defenders and your defense is going to be terrible. Is
- 12:44Speaker 5: going to be too terrible combined we're seeing right now.
- 12:48Speaker 5: Kat is a pretty good defender, like Cat made Victor
- 12:50Speaker 5: Wenbin Yama's night pretty difficult, and Jalen Brunson is in
- 12:54Speaker 5: this big liability that people kind of want to make
- 12:56Speaker 5: him out to be.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Kat is interesting where he just the size and the length.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I'm not saying it matches up exactly with Wemby, but
- 13:06Speaker 3: Kat fancies himself like as a playmaker. I heard them
- 13:08Speaker 3: talking about it. Like his frustrations through the first part
- 13:11Speaker 3: of his career here has been he hasn't been given
- 13:14Speaker 3: the ability or trusted to be more like Djok because
- 13:18Speaker 3: that's the kind of player he fancies himself to be.
- 13:21Speaker 3: I'm not saying he is that kind of player, but
- 13:23Speaker 3: he is the size and the length to at least
- 13:25Speaker 3: give Wemby some problems, is he and I think that's
- 13:28Speaker 3: and he's athletic enough so we could take him out.
- 13:30Speaker 1: He can go out with Wemby.
- 13:32Speaker 3: He can guard Wemby in a way that few other
- 13:34Speaker 3: guys in the NBA can, And at least through one game,
- 13:36Speaker 3: it looked pretty good last night.
- 13:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I thought Wemby was his own biggest problem last night.
- 13:41Speaker 6: I don't think any defender really matters. I think everything
- 13:43Speaker 6: you're saying is true, But I think with Wemby's on
- 13:45Speaker 6: his game, it doesn't really matter who the defender.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Is, right. But I do think this goes a little bit.
- 13:50Speaker 6: To Mike Brown too, because you could tell he told
- 13:52Speaker 6: Kat hey, you can drive past him, like that's what
- 13:56Speaker 6: they wanted Chet Holmgren to possibly do. When he's got
- 13:59Speaker 6: Wemby and five of him. You can drive past him.
- 14:01Speaker 6: As soon as you get a shoulder past him, you've
- 14:03Speaker 6: got the big body. He's not going to recover. And
- 14:05Speaker 6: he did that a couple of times. But this is
- 14:07Speaker 6: where my thoughts come in with Wenby, and I don't
- 14:09Speaker 6: know whether this means.
- 14:10Speaker 1: He can figure this out in this series.
- 14:12Speaker 6: I don't know whether this means it's something that's going
- 14:13Speaker 6: to be, you know, down the road and improving for him.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But you already see like body type.
- 14:19Speaker 6: And I know you are happy to see this, Taylor,
- 14:20Speaker 6: but like you stand him next to Mitchell Robinson and
- 14:24Speaker 6: just their hips or their asses or whatever you want
- 14:25Speaker 6: to look like.
- 14:26Speaker 1: It's like Mitchell's twice the size of Victor.
- 14:28Speaker 6: Yeah, and you know og Annobi is just the way
- 14:31Speaker 6: thicker than Victor Webbinyama. A lot of bodies able to
- 14:34Speaker 6: push him around what Victor wen bin Yama needs. And
- 14:37Speaker 6: this is crazy to say because he's seven foot four
- 14:39Speaker 6: and he does everything on the basketball court.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Man, get yourself a post game.
- 14:42Speaker 6: Get yourself first of all inability to just sit in
- 14:45Speaker 6: the post and not get pushed around. But when you
- 14:47Speaker 6: get the ball, even if it's in the mid or
- 14:50Speaker 6: you know, deep posts or high post, have something in
- 14:53Speaker 6: your repertoire. He just doesn't have it yet. Whether that's
- 14:56Speaker 6: because he doesn't have the strength to stay there and
- 14:59Speaker 6: he gets bullied, or he's so talented that he just
- 15:02Speaker 6: hasn't picked a go to right in the post.
- 15:05Speaker 1: And I think if he thinks.
- 15:07Speaker 6: And it's funny because I was talking with my trader
- 15:08Speaker 6: about this yesterday during the day, that's all we were saying,
- 15:12Speaker 6: it's lights out if that dude has any sort of
- 15:15Speaker 6: post game, and you would think at seven four of
- 15:17Speaker 6: me the first thing he developed, and he probably does
- 15:19Speaker 6: have a postgame, but he's not that strong, and so
- 15:22Speaker 6: if he can just plant his butt in the post
- 15:24Speaker 6: and make things difficult for the Knicks, it's gonna be
- 15:27Speaker 6: an entirely different defensive game plan for the Knicks, and
- 15:31Speaker 6: I don't think they would have an answer for that.
- 15:33Speaker 3: I think a lot of people are thinking that last night,
- 15:35Speaker 3: like Wemby, get closer to the basket, get a post game.
- 15:38Speaker 3: You're too thin, put on some weight, grow into your body.
- 15:41Speaker 3: He can't control some of that. Some of that just
- 15:43Speaker 3: comes with time, it comes with age. The postgame he
- 15:46Speaker 3: can't control. And yet he doesn't have one, or maybe
- 15:48Speaker 3: he does and we're just not seeing it. I am
- 15:50Speaker 3: so hesitant to do what it is we're doing because
- 15:53Speaker 3: it's one game, and I'm criticizing Wemby and we call
- 15:56Speaker 3: him an alien, and I'm afraid to say anything bad
- 15:59Speaker 3: about him because I like, if I do, he's gonna
- 16:01Speaker 3: come back and put forty two and twenty two on
- 16:03Speaker 3: my face next in game two, and the Knicks will
- 16:06Speaker 3: be tied at one game apiece headed back to the Mecca.
- 16:09Speaker 3: I like where I am right now. I don't need
- 16:11Speaker 3: to give Wemby any sort of advice. Just keep doing
- 16:13Speaker 3: what you're doing. Wemby, Okay, just.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Keep doing play thirty feet from the basket. I love it.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Or at one nothing, three games from an NBA.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Championship, I'll balance it out for you, Stu.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 16:24Speaker 5: Wemby is already the best defensive player ever, I think
- 16:27Speaker 5: in NBA history, because there's the Knicks go through stretches
- 16:32Speaker 5: in that game where they looked like they were terrified
- 16:35Speaker 5: to try to even come close to the basket. You
- 16:37Speaker 5: see Ogn and Obi have a pretty clean look, but
- 16:40Speaker 5: he alters the way he's shooting it because he just
- 16:44Speaker 5: thinks of Wembinyama, with like a ten plus foot wingspan,
- 16:48Speaker 5: could get to the ball, and I think he either
- 16:51Speaker 5: airballed it or hit front rim. Wembin Yama's impact on
- 16:56Speaker 5: the defensive end is unlike anything we've ever seen before.
- 17:01Speaker 5: And there was that moment when the Knicks go up
- 17:03Speaker 5: eight and it's just offensive possession after offensive possession after
- 17:08Speaker 5: offensive possession where they're really not getting anything clean towards
- 17:11Speaker 5: the basket before Brunton kind of took over with his
- 17:14Speaker 5: shot making, where it's like the Spurs might actually do
- 17:18Speaker 5: this just because of how tough Webbin Yama makes it
- 17:21Speaker 5: for the Knicks offensively.
- 17:23Speaker 6: Well, the interesting part to me is you just like,
- 17:25Speaker 6: first of all, I do want to know. Actually, let
- 17:27Speaker 6: me start there, what was it like in your house, Taylor,
- 17:29Speaker 6: when the Knicks were down fourteen in the third quarter,
- 17:32Speaker 6: Because I'm guessing you were you were pretty bummed.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I was. I was already onto game two.
- 17:42Speaker 5: We just we just had to get.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Watched in the tape.
- 17:45Speaker 3: It's amazing in the third quarter he was onto the
- 17:47Speaker 3: game too, and yet he's spent. The end result is
- 17:51Speaker 3: he stays up all night watching the highlights on a loop.
- 17:54Speaker 3: I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 17:55Speaker 6: The think about the Wemby stuff in Karl Anthony Towns is, yes,
- 17:58Speaker 6: Wemby can get better, and yes, Wenby is a dominant
- 18:02Speaker 6: defensive player and the Knicks don't really know what to
- 18:04Speaker 6: do against him. But Karl Anthony Towns might have found
- 18:06Speaker 6: some things not only just being able to drive past
- 18:09Speaker 6: them if he's on the perimeter, but the offensive rebounding,
- 18:12Speaker 6: like yes, he's basically staying between the paint and Josh Hart,
- 18:17Speaker 6: Josh Hart if he's not shooting it well, but that
- 18:19Speaker 6: just sets up Karl Anthony Towns for offensive rebounds. He
- 18:21Speaker 6: got a couple of huge offensive rebounds during the Knicks
- 18:24Speaker 6: comeback run there, And I just feel like Carl kind
- 18:27Speaker 6: of knows where he can affect the game. And so
- 18:30Speaker 6: if they can keep Victor wembin Yama struggling, if they
- 18:32Speaker 6: can somehow keep that three point shooting down, because the
- 18:36Speaker 6: Spurs only shot twenty six percent from three, then yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 6: they're gonna be able to win this series. But right now,
- 18:40Speaker 6: when you look at them winning by ten on the road,
- 18:43Speaker 6: but they only shot forty one percent from the field
- 18:45Speaker 6: and thirty one from three, Like, I don't know how
- 18:47Speaker 6: many of these games are going to get away with,
- 18:49Speaker 6: Like the Spurs are going to figure something out.
- 18:51Speaker 1: So I wouldn't be too confident.
- 18:53Speaker 5: And I don't want to give the Spurs coach any
- 18:57Speaker 5: advice or any tips. But when I'm watching that game, yes.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Sure he's listening.
- 19:01Speaker 5: Yeah, Dylan Harper led the Spurs and scoring through three quarters.
- 19:06Speaker 1: He seems like playing the fourth yeah, one point.
- 19:09Speaker 5: Game and he got bench with four minutes left.
- 19:11Speaker 1: What what happened? Again, this is why I feel like this.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Hold on a second, is he hold on? What is
- 19:15Speaker 3: the advice keep Dylan Harper in the game. I'm just wondering,
- 19:19Speaker 3: in case the coach is listening, what is the advice.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Your best player at driving to the basket? Yeah, he's
- 19:26Speaker 5: probably a good asset in a one point game in
- 19:28Speaker 5: the fourth quarter.
- 19:28Speaker 6: He has looked more and more often like Victor Winbinyama's
- 19:33Speaker 6: main sidekick, like Stefan Castle has sort of taken on
- 19:36Speaker 6: that role. And you know, Vassell has had a couple
- 19:39Speaker 6: of good games, Champagne's had a couple of.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Good shooting games.
- 19:41Speaker 6: But it feels like, because of all the turnovers from
- 19:43Speaker 6: Stefan Castle, that Dylan is the more reliable ball handler.
- 19:46Speaker 6: And I'm with you, man, like I already I know
- 19:48Speaker 6: you don't want to, you know, put him in the
- 19:49Speaker 6: starting line up ahead of Darren Fox or Devin Vessel.
- 19:52Speaker 6: But if he's out there and he's cooking, Like, why
- 19:55Speaker 6: are you leaving Darren Fox out there when he's three
- 19:56Speaker 6: for thirteen and not playing very well?
- 19:58Speaker 1: Like I'm good with Dylan Harper, I trust him.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Is he just going back to the next performance because
- 20:03Speaker 3: it wasn't a great performance. They really had no business
- 20:05Speaker 3: winning that game on the road, and they won that
- 20:07Speaker 3: game on the road, and they're up won to nothing.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I would say what the Spurs got just based on
- 20:13Speaker 3: how the Knicks have played here throughout the postseason.
- 20:15Speaker 1: They played as well.
- 20:16Speaker 3: As any team could possibly play in the postseason here.
- 20:19Speaker 3: You could talk about who they played, but it doesn't
- 20:21Speaker 3: matter now they're in the NBA Finals. I would say
- 20:24Speaker 3: what the Spurs got last night was like the knickt
- 20:26Speaker 3: C game. And so you're saying that the Spurs, hey,
- 20:30Speaker 3: they'll figure something out, maybe this series will be closed
- 20:32Speaker 3: and the Knicks won't win it in four or five,
- 20:34Speaker 3: and I'm saying, no, the Knicks didn't even play that
- 20:37Speaker 3: well and they won by double digits on the road.
- 20:40Speaker 6: Okay, I mean, look, I get I get all of that,
- 20:42Speaker 6: and I just don't think that you're going to be
- 20:44Speaker 6: able to limit the Spurs at thirty six percent shooting
- 20:46Speaker 6: in every game. I don't think you're going to limit
- 20:48Speaker 6: Darren Fox and Victor weibin Yama combined for nine for
- 20:51Speaker 6: thirty four. Like, I think there's going to be some
- 20:54Speaker 6: shot making from the Spurs, and that's going to bounce
- 20:56Speaker 6: some things out.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I am curious, I'm sorry, go ahead to is.
- 20:59Speaker 5: He Is there any concern? We saw this in the
- 21:01Speaker 5: the Cleveland series where Cleveland not to the extent that
- 21:05Speaker 5: we saw last night, but Cleveland chokes away a lead,
- 21:08Speaker 5: the Knicks have this miraculous comeback, and then there was
- 21:11Speaker 5: almost that sense in game one like, oh, this Cavs
- 21:14Speaker 5: team is just not gonna be able to recover from this,
- 21:17Speaker 5: or or is the Spurs team so young that it's
- 21:20Speaker 5: almost to their to their benefit, where it's like these guys,
- 21:24Speaker 5: they're they're just gonna be able to shrug this one
- 21:26Speaker 5: off and get ready for game two.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I think there's that. I think there's you know, a
- 21:30Speaker 1: lot of.
- 21:33Speaker 6: This game felt like it looked a little bit like
- 21:35Speaker 6: the Spurs were tired. It looked like Victor Wimbinyama just
- 21:39Speaker 6: didn't have I mean, compare him in this game one
- 21:41Speaker 6: and you can say it's the result. You can say
- 21:43Speaker 6: the shots aren't going in, so that's why he wasn't
- 21:45Speaker 6: acting this way. But compare this game one to the Okay,
- 21:47Speaker 6: see game one. He was on a mission in that
- 21:50Speaker 6: Oka see game one.
- 21:51Speaker 1: He was the whole, you know, the posing after.
- 21:53Speaker 6: The big block like he that was his statement game
- 21:57Speaker 6: more so than any other game in these playoffs. Last
- 21:59Speaker 6: night just looked like another game for him.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Right early on.
- 22:02Speaker 6: Dylan Harper's the one being aggressive, and when he's missing shots,
- 22:05Speaker 6: he's Wen Benyama's missing shots. He's kind of not being
- 22:08Speaker 6: as aggressive offensively, and the turnovers aren't great, you know,
- 22:11Speaker 6: when he's trying to go through the lane and this
- 22:13Speaker 6: because he's so long, anybody can sort of get his
- 22:15Speaker 6: hands on him when he's dribbling in the paint like that,
- 22:17Speaker 6: and so yeah, it just felt like he didn't have
- 22:20Speaker 6: that same fire. If you read those quotes after game one,
- 22:25Speaker 6: you're going to see a different version of Victor Wenbinyama.
- 22:27Speaker 6: You're gonna see Karl Anthony Towns in my opinion, in
- 22:29Speaker 6: foul Trouble. You're gonna see Mitchell Robinson, you know, get
- 22:31Speaker 6: attacked on the offense, on the defensive end and see
- 22:34Speaker 6: what they can do. So I think, yeah, it's a
- 22:37Speaker 6: combination of their young enough where their rebound is going
- 22:40Speaker 6: to look like an entirely different group. But it does
- 22:44Speaker 6: require Victor Wenbinyama to hit some shots to you know,
- 22:47Speaker 6: not turn the ball over and for you know, those
- 22:50Speaker 6: guys around him to hit some three pointers to open
- 22:52Speaker 6: up the lane for him, because if they're not hitting shots,
- 22:54Speaker 6: it's going to be ugly for the series.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Maybe, as he was right, being on the road for
- 22:57Speaker 3: Game one was the best thing that could have ever
- 22:59Speaker 3: happened to the name.
- 23:00Speaker 1: He said that yesterday on the radio show.
- 23:01Speaker 3: They see you know, both teams for me early on
- 23:04Speaker 3: at least they it felt like they were playing so quickly.
- 23:07Speaker 1: The game was moving so fast.
- 23:09Speaker 3: And I know that's kind of kind of common when
- 23:11Speaker 3: you play in the NBA Finals and that first game
- 23:13Speaker 3: and the adrenaline and all.
- 23:15Speaker 1: That stuff's going.
- 23:16Speaker 3: But I was actually thinking about what you said and
- 23:18Speaker 3: the fact that you just pointed out Wemby's, you know,
- 23:20Speaker 3: Wemby's snature signature moment here in the postseason was on
- 23:24Speaker 3: the road in Game one in Oklahoma City. Perhaps there
- 23:27Speaker 3: is something to being more relaxed when you play on
- 23:30Speaker 3: the road in game one as supposed to be as
- 23:32Speaker 3: opposed to.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Playing get home in Game one.
- 23:34Speaker 3: But Wemby did seem like the like the game and
- 23:37Speaker 3: the moment was moving very quickly.
- 23:39Speaker 6: For you know, I wouldn't say that if it was
- 23:41Speaker 6: like the Indiana Pacers, right, But the Knicks at MSG,
- 23:44Speaker 6: that's a different animal, Like, it feels different there. And
- 23:47Speaker 6: for them to be on the road in San Antonio again, yeah,
- 23:50Speaker 6: the most intimidating place despite their history.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I think it worked out well for them.
- 23:55Speaker 5: You mentioned you mentioned MSG, and before game one, the
- 24:00Speaker 5: cheapest tickets were about like fifty five hundred.
- 24:03Speaker 1: No, yeah, let's guess. Let's guess cheapest ticket right now. Yeah,
- 24:07Speaker 1: so it was fifty five hundred going into game one.
- 24:09Speaker 6: So now that they've won game one, Game two would
- 24:11Speaker 6: assume skyrocketing.
- 24:12Speaker 1: So they're coming back.
- 24:13Speaker 3: And by the way, this is why game two is
- 24:15Speaker 3: the most important game in the series. The Spurs lose
- 24:17Speaker 3: this game, the series that wrapped that game is over,
- 24:19Speaker 3: So the Knicks are going to come back either up
- 24:21Speaker 3: to oh or tied at one game of piece.
- 24:23Speaker 1: So the tickets of skyrocketed.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Here, you said fifty five hundred was the cheapest ticket
- 24:27Speaker 3: before last night.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so lazy.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Let's take a guess here, Mike, yea, let's guess here,
- 24:32Speaker 3: what do you think the cheapest ticket to the Mecca
- 24:34Speaker 3: is for Game three? Knicks are guaranteed to come back
- 24:38Speaker 3: one to one or we're up.
- 24:39Speaker 1: To Oh, Mike, yeah, I'll start with you. It's going
- 24:42Speaker 1: to be expensive. Just so we're clear, I'm going.
- 24:45Speaker 7: To say sixty two hundred, and I will also say
- 24:51Speaker 7: and I will also say, I'll bet you game four
- 24:53Speaker 7: is even more expensive.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Yeah, the possibility of the closeouts, right, No, no, no,
- 25:01Speaker 4: I'm just saying, like that's the thought. Like, you win
- 25:03Speaker 4: game one, you're like.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Hey, no, I could be there, Yes, I could be there.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Is he he's at sixty two hundred. What do you
- 25:10Speaker 1: think it's got to be at five figures? I think it.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Let's just go ten thousand, five hundred dollars. Okay, I'm
- 25:15Speaker 1: gonna go ten thousand, five hundred and one.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Who's the closest tailor without going over split the difference
- 25:23Speaker 3: between you both between all three of you eighty two hundred.
- 25:29Speaker 1: So by the time the game starts, it'll be a
- 25:31Speaker 1: rand Oh no, no doubt about it.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 5: If the Knicks win game two, right, that's that's gonna
- 25:37Speaker 5: be a mortgage.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Yes, what's the price for game four?
- 25:43Speaker 1: Oh, it's got to be.
- 25:44Speaker 3: It's got because you're right, Mikey Once once Nick fans
- 25:47Speaker 3: are like, hey, I could be in the building for
- 25:49Speaker 3: the thing for them winning a title that.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Get now listen, it could very well go five games
- 25:54Speaker 1: and the Nicks end up winning it on the Spurs home.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Gorge thinks for people who are buying those tickets, But
- 25:59Speaker 3: you're right, Game four has to be skyrocketing right now, Taylor,
- 26:02Speaker 3: the fans are getting cocky. I'm talking about prices for
- 26:04Speaker 3: Game four. Jesus Christ Taylor.
- 26:07Speaker 6: The clutch, the historic and if they win this series,
- 26:13Speaker 6: probably his signature shot right now, that Jalen Brunson shot.
- 26:17Speaker 6: How many times have you seen it in slow mo?
- 26:20Speaker 6: And then how many times have you laughed at him
- 26:22Speaker 6: slipping cartoonishly on the floor twice before he came back
- 26:26Speaker 6: to the other side.
- 26:28Speaker 5: The crazy thing is there were so many shots that
- 26:30Speaker 5: I don't even know which shot you're talking really, the dag,
- 26:34Speaker 5: the one with under a minute left.
- 26:36Speaker 6: I believe it was under a minute left, hang on,
- 26:38Speaker 6: I got to look at the time, but it was
- 26:40Speaker 6: who was the defender there?
- 26:43Speaker 3: The ball was under a minute as he's a shot
- 26:45Speaker 3: that it's a basket that put him up six?
- 26:46Speaker 1: It made it was the dagger.
- 26:48Speaker 6: It was yeah, it was sort of pivot, pivot and
- 26:50Speaker 6: then sort of stepped through and sort of hit and
- 26:52Speaker 6: if you look at the shot hit, no rim, just
- 26:54Speaker 6: an absolute clean. He fell to the ground and as
- 26:56Speaker 6: he was complaining to the rest on his way back,
- 26:58Speaker 6: twice slipped on a sweat spot.
- 27:00Speaker 5: Yeah. I love that play. I've watched it countless times.
- 27:04Speaker 5: My favorite play though, down one, Brunson somehow gets the
- 27:08Speaker 5: offensive rebound. He tips in, the bridges, bridges back to
- 27:11Speaker 5: brunts in, and then you get the Mike Breen bang
- 27:14Speaker 5: where you go from down one to up to stu.
- 27:18Speaker 5: I saw this stat line fro from Josh Hart. Yeah,
- 27:22Speaker 5: fifteen rebounds, six assists, four steals, the first player since
- 27:28Speaker 5: Larry Bird to reach those numbers in a finals game.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Wow, Larry legend. I mean, how about that? How many
- 27:35Speaker 3: points did Bird have in that game? Because I'm guessing
- 27:37Speaker 3: he had twenty seven.
- 27:38Speaker 5: You probably had more than three.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Yeah, he didn't have three.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Put it on the pole, Taylor.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Is that the best game a guy who has scored
- 27:46Speaker 3: three points has ever had? Because I think I'm with you.
- 27:49Speaker 3: He does the little things. He's a glue guy. I
- 27:51Speaker 3: love that guy, and I love this team, and I
- 27:54Speaker 3: am so excited that we are three games away from
- 27:56Speaker 3: an NBA title. Hopefully, But is he what do you
- 27:59Speaker 3: expecting here? By the way I meant to ask you,
- 28:01Speaker 3: is he is that I've never seen? Maybe maybe I'm
- 28:05Speaker 3: prisoner of the moment, but the shiftiness of Jalen Brunton
- 28:09Speaker 3: on a basketball court, his ability to move side to
- 28:12Speaker 3: side so quickly, I'm wondering for you if there's a
- 28:15Speaker 3: cop to Jalen Brunton, because he's about a shifty as.
- 28:17Speaker 1: You get on a basketball court.
- 28:20Speaker 3: I'm just surprised no one saw this incredible talent and
- 28:23Speaker 3: what he could be when he was with Dallas or
- 28:26Speaker 3: when he was coming out of Villanova, because it's hard
- 28:29Speaker 3: not to see it when you see him play.
- 28:30Speaker 1: He is so quick and so shifty.
- 28:33Speaker 3: With the basketball in his hands, and I'm not certain
- 28:35Speaker 3: I've ever seen someone like that, maybe Iverson, maybe Iverson right.
- 28:39Speaker 6: So first of all, yeah, it was the shot with
- 28:41Speaker 6: thirty eight thirty seven seconds left, and it was against
- 28:43Speaker 6: Devin Vessel, and it was just and it was a
- 28:46Speaker 6: perfect example of what I was about to explain right now.
- 28:48Speaker 6: To answer your questions too, it is he is not
- 28:51Speaker 6: the shiftiest guard. He is shifty enough, like he is good,
- 28:55Speaker 6: he's high quality like in the nineties if you're rating
- 28:57Speaker 6: it in that department. But it's a combination of all
- 29:01Speaker 6: of the skills that he is good at. He's great
- 29:03Speaker 6: at handles, he's great, he's obviously shiftiness. He's great at
- 29:07Speaker 6: immediate decision making. While he's taking you off the dribble,
- 29:10Speaker 6: he sees you move a little bit to the left.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to the right. I might not even
- 29:14Speaker 1: be that open.
- 29:15Speaker 6: But if I've got you now again leaning to the
- 29:18Speaker 6: other side heavily, boom, I'm gonna cross it back over.
- 29:20Speaker 6: He's got the ball in a string all the times.
- 29:22Speaker 6: He's watching you at all times, and I think probably
- 29:25Speaker 6: the best footwork of a guard that I can think of,
- 29:29Speaker 6: outside of Kyrie Irving.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Kyrie Irving's just a god.
- 29:31Speaker 6: But you combine all those things and he will always
- 29:35Speaker 6: find a shot. Even that shot against Vicelle Taylor. That
- 29:38Speaker 6: was a difficult ass shot with like a step through
- 29:42Speaker 6: falling to his right, and again no rim on that shot.
- 29:45Speaker 6: So it's all of those things Stu's he is shifty
- 29:48Speaker 6: as hell, not the shiftiest in the world. He is
- 29:50Speaker 6: a shot maker, he is a great again, great handles,
- 29:53Speaker 6: But it's all right here between the ears.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Everything his dad has taught him over the years, has.
- 29:58Speaker 6: Just become like on almost the perfect point guard in
- 30:02Speaker 6: terms of how he sees the game as a scorer,
- 30:04Speaker 6: which is crazy because he's a point guard. But you
- 30:06Speaker 6: think he's had all these great passes and everything else,
- 30:08Speaker 6: but that part of his game you don't really see
- 30:10Speaker 6: flashy assists. But I don't really care because he's always going.
- 30:13Speaker 1: To get me a good shot. No, you're right. He knows.
- 30:15Speaker 1: He's smart. He's smart. He's the son of an NBA
- 30:17Speaker 1: player who taught him very very well. He is shifty,
- 30:20Speaker 1: but he also knows.
- 30:21Speaker 3: He knows angles, he knows how to use his body,
- 30:24Speaker 3: he knows how to draw fouls, he knows how to
- 30:26Speaker 3: lean in, he knows how to get himself a little time,
- 30:28Speaker 3: a little space.
- 30:29Speaker 1: To get his shot off.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Where he knows the little things, and those little things
- 30:32Speaker 3: are vastly important to being a great offensive player.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Kind of like Larry Bird.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Yeah, changed my life.
