Speaker 7: part of I Guess What the artist. That was formerly
• 2:07
Speaker 7: known as the Spring Game. It's not the Spring Game anymore.
• 2:10
Speaker 7: They don't want to call it that anymore. It's kind
• 2:11
Speaker 7: of like the Blue and Gold Spectacular or something like that.
• 2:14
Speaker 7: But anyway, it's a great charitable thing, chance for you
• 2:17
Speaker 7: to meet some mouth in your legends if you are
• 2:18
Speaker 7: heading up to Morgantown for the game or the exhibition

• 2:48
Speaker 7: what's going on at the Capitol. Brad McIlhenny of course,
• 2:50
Speaker 7: is there as well. So we'll we get a little
• 2:52
Speaker 7: preview of talk Line with TJ coming up toward the
• 2:54
Speaker 7: end of the show. I want to welcome in now, though,
• 2:56
Speaker 7: because it is Friday, our good friend, Angie Gillenwater from
• 2:59
Speaker 7: the Cannaal Charleston New Association with this week's Adopt Me
• 3:01
Speaker 7: Please Pet of the Week. Angie, good morning, Welcome to
• 3:05
  Speaker 7: the show.
• 3:06
Speaker 8: Good morning, even though it's kind of dreary.
• 3:09
Speaker 7: It is kind of dreary, and that's the first thing
• 3:10
Speaker 7: I wanted to ask you about is you know, we
• 3:12
Speaker 7: got high water issues around the valley here, and I
• 3:16
Speaker 7: know that you folks have struggled with that sort of
• 3:18
Speaker 7: thing up on Greenbriar Street.
• 3:20
Speaker 5: Everything okay up here this morning, so.
• 3:23
Speaker 8: Far, so good. We took some precautionary measures yesterday and
• 3:26
Speaker 8: any dogs that we're in what we call the danger
• 3:29
Speaker 8: zone where the water gets fairly high, we went ahead
• 3:31
Speaker 8: and move them up to higher waters or higher at
• 3:34
Speaker 8: ground temporarily, so hopefully we stay that way.
• 3:38
Speaker 7: Well, it's we certainly hope that, and we hope that
• 3:41
Speaker 7: we can also get you guys at a new home
• 3:43
Speaker 7: at some point so you don't have to deal with
• 3:45
Speaker 7: this every time that we get more than a couple
• 3:47
Speaker 7: of inches of rain.
• 3:49
Speaker 8: Yeah, we're packing our boxes. We're ready to go to.
• 3:52
Speaker 7: I can imagine. All right, let's talk about our adopt
• 3:55
Speaker 7: me please pet of the week. Her name is Melanie.
• 3:57
Speaker 7: Melanie's picture has always posted on my social media. It's
• 4:00
Speaker 7: on Dave Allen Radio and at Dave A seventy on
• 4:02
Speaker 7: ex a Beautiful Dog.
• 4:04
Speaker 5: Tell us all about Melanie.
• 4:07
Speaker 8: So I'm bringing Melanie this week. She's a four month
• 4:09
Speaker 8: old puppy that's been in our care since January. And
• 4:12
Speaker 8: when I figured that out, I mean, it's so hard
• 4:15
Speaker 8: to believe, because it's super unusual for a puppy to
• 4:18
Speaker 8: stay with us that long. But Melanie, she's fully vaccinated.
• 4:23
Speaker 8: She's great with dogs of all shapes, all sizes, all colors,
• 4:27
Speaker 8: all breedes. She does great with everybody, and I where
• 4:31
Speaker 8: she is still a puppy. I don't see her having
• 4:33
Speaker 8: any issues with cats either.
• 4:35
Speaker 7: And you told me her story. There were how many
• 4:39
Speaker 7: of these siblings that because that they were abandoned on
• 4:41
Speaker 7: I think were dropped off on someone's porch. Tell them
• 4:43
Speaker 7: to tell us a story, and how many of them
• 4:45
  Speaker 7: were there?
• 4:46
Speaker 8: So there were five puppies abandoned on somebody's porch. She
• 4:50
Speaker 8: got them to us. We name them all after the
• 4:53
Speaker 8: spice girls. So they were a little small when they
• 4:57
Speaker 8: first got to us. They went to foster care for
• 4:59
Speaker 8: about a week to fosters took great care of I'm
• 5:02
Speaker 8: got am big and strong, ready for an option, and
• 5:05
Speaker 8: everybody has been adopted, but for Melody.
• 5:08
Speaker 5: And what kind of dogs they were we talking about here?
• 5:11
Speaker 8: So all of them were solid black. Some of them
• 5:14
Speaker 8: had like white patches on their chests, but all of
• 5:18
Speaker 8: them were solid black. I would say that they're going
• 5:20
Speaker 8: to be just large mixed breeds, but yeah, they all
• 5:23
Speaker 8: look the exact name as well.
• 5:24
  Speaker 7: Well, she's a beautiful dog, I mean, And again I
• 5:27
Speaker 7: urge you to go over to my Facebook page Steve
• 5:30
Speaker 7: Allen Radio on Facebook or at dave A seventy on
• 5:32
Speaker 7: x the artists formally known as Twitter, and you can
• 5:35
Speaker 7: check out the pictures because Melanie is absolutely a beautiful dog.
• 5:39
Speaker 7: And you know, shout out to some of you folks
• 5:41
Speaker 7: from the nineties that you named them after members of
• 5:43
  Speaker 7: the Spice Girls.
• 5:45
Speaker 8: The Yeah, our person that named them also named the
• 5:49
Speaker 8: puppies that were named after all the nineties wrestlers as well.
• 5:52
Speaker 7: Okay, okay, all right, all right, so let's we'll get
• 5:57
Speaker 7: back to Melody in the moment. How are the numbers
• 5:58
Speaker 7: looking up there, Angie.
• 6:00
Speaker 8: Uh, we're back to you being very critical capacity this
• 6:04
Speaker 8: time on everything, cats, kittens, puppies, adult dogs, everywhere. We
• 6:10
Speaker 8: need help, right on time.
• 6:14
  Speaker 9: Right on budget.
• 6:16
Speaker 3: Come on, cheri'sn chuction.
• 6:28
Speaker 7: It is nine twenty big Ley Piggly Wiggly Hotline three
• 6:31

• 6:44
Speaker 7: Visit Bridge Valley dot edu. And I understand we're having
• 6:46
Speaker 7: some transmission issues this morning. When you have this stormy
• 6:49
Speaker 7: weather like we've gotten, it's gonna happen, and we are
• 6:53
  Speaker 7: aware and they're they're working on it. I know there's
• 6:55
Speaker 7: issues with the app. I understand it's also down. So
• 6:59
Speaker 7: hope full of eight people are able to hear me.
• 7:01
Speaker 7: If not, well, I'll just entertain myself. I'll sing. That'll
• 7:04
Speaker 7: get people to call him. Uh So, big event going
• 7:08
Speaker 7: on up in Morgantown tomorrow. And I want to welcome
• 7:10
Speaker 7: to the show mouth and their legend. Avon Coburn, Good morning,
• 7:13
Speaker 7: Welcome to the show, sir.
• 7:15
Speaker 10: My friend, thank you for having us, Thank you for
• 7:16
Speaker 10: having me, and then introduce your guests.
• 7:18
Speaker 11: So with me today is my dance partner Natalie Robinson
• 7:22
Speaker 11: from well Point, West, Virginia. She is the my liaison
• 7:26
Speaker 11: to this United Way Dancing with the Stars.
• 7:29
Speaker 7: Explain what it is that you're doing with this Dancing
• 7:32
Speaker 7: with the Stars, because I mean it's a huge event
• 7:34
Speaker 7: every year. Uh why did you decide to get involved
• 7:37
  Speaker 7: in this?
• 7:37
  Speaker 10: Well?
• 7:37
Speaker 11: I decided because I'm from Camden, New Jersey. You're from
• 7:40
Speaker 11: Camp New Jersey. Not not with a whole lot and
• 7:43
Speaker 11: these type of organizations, you know, United Way, YMCA, y W,
• 7:48
Speaker 11: those type of organization, So those nonprofits always give back
• 7:51
Speaker 11: to those that don't have access. And I wanted to
• 7:55
Speaker 11: be able to put my foot and in this and
• 7:57
Speaker 11: see see how much.
• 7:58
Speaker 5: Access access we can give. Now, are you a good dancer?
• 8:02
  Speaker 5: Fantastic dance?
• 8:02
Speaker 7: Okay, all right, because not everybody that says they can
• 8:05
Speaker 7: dance can dance, But you're saying you can dance fantastic?
• 8:09
Speaker 5: Is he a good dancer?
• 8:10
Speaker 12: I will say his footboss skills did transfer to the
• 8:13
Speaker 12: dance floor. So we are grateful for that, okay.
• 8:15
Speaker 7: Because sometimes, I mean with a lot of athletes, there
• 8:18
Speaker 7: are a lot of similarities between the two. You know
• 8:20
Speaker 7: that if you can get the fancy footwork on the field,
• 8:23
Speaker 7: you can have it on.
• 8:24
  Speaker 5: The dance floor.
• 8:25
Speaker 7: I guess right, tell us about you about Evon's partner,
• 8:28
  Speaker 7: Go ahead, sure.
• 8:28
Speaker 12: I'm Natalie Robinson. I am the whole Health director for
• 8:31
Speaker 12: well Point West Virginia, and I also serve on the
• 8:34
Speaker 12: United Way Board, so I see firsthand the impact that
• 8:38
Speaker 12: these dollars make on our community. Just last year alone,
• 8:42
Speaker 12: they served one hundred lives. And that's just not a number, right.
• 8:46
Speaker 12: Those are families, those are children, seniors, our neighbors, and
• 8:51
Speaker 12: so it's a big deal to raise the money for this.
• 8:54
Speaker 12: And it's not just about dancing. It's about, you know,
• 8:57
Speaker 12: using that joy to fuel fuel the community to raise
• 9:00
Speaker 12: this money for people in need.
• 9:02
Speaker 5: I want to talk.
• 9:03
Speaker 7: I want to go to you and talk a little
• 9:04
Speaker 7: bit about your your playing career up in Morgantown. You
• 9:07
Speaker 7: mentioned you came from Campden, New Jersey. Talk about arriving
• 9:10
Speaker 7: on campus for the first time in Morgantown.
• 9:13
Speaker 11: I was excited because I was away from home. But
• 9:16
Speaker 11: at the same time, it was, uh, it was. It
• 9:18
Speaker 11: was a little different because you wasn't surrounded by, you know,
• 9:21
Speaker 11: the people that love you. You know, you want surrounded
• 9:24
Speaker 11: by your your surroundings that you're used to. So Morgantown
• 9:28
Speaker 11: was was a little bit different for me. But at
• 9:30
Speaker 11: the same time, I felt I felt like it was
• 9:33
Speaker 11: comforting because even though there weren't a lot of people.
• 9:36
Speaker 5: That that I know, but there were about five people
• 9:38
  Speaker 5: from a.
• 9:39
Speaker 11: High school on the team, so it made it it
• 9:41
Speaker 11: made it seem like homeless, but you.
• 9:42
Speaker 5: Got to know everybody.
• 9:43
Speaker 7: And I mean, you've become a big part of West
• 9:46
Speaker 7: Virginia because if I'm wrong, you can grant me you
• 9:50
Speaker 7: live here, right you are? Yeah, I mean so it's
• 9:53
Speaker 7: not often in the world of college sports that people
• 9:57
Speaker 7: that go play wherever they go play decide to stay
• 10:00
Speaker 7: where they where they had their career. What was it
• 10:03
Speaker 7: about Morgan about West Virginia. I should say that that
• 10:06
Speaker 7: said I want to I want to make my life here.
• 10:09
Speaker 10: So one the first thing is my wife is from
• 10:12
  Speaker 10: West Virginia.
• 10:13
Speaker 11: She's from Charleston actually, and we were actually living in
• 10:17
Speaker 11: Canada and I was just I was tired of football.
• 10:20
Speaker 11: I was trying to trying to do something different, and
• 10:24
  Speaker 11: I told my wife, I said, you know, let's let's
• 10:26
Speaker 11: go back to Charleston, because one, we have some help
• 10:29
Speaker 11: with with her parents. You know, when we want to
• 10:31
Speaker 11: go on a date, it's it's easy to drop them
• 10:33
Speaker 11: off with the grandparents and they welcome it. But two,
• 10:37
  Speaker 11: you know, I had a good name. I have a
• 10:40
Speaker 11: good name. I mean, I've done the things correctly. I
• 10:42
Speaker 11: haven't made those mistakes that some athletes make. And West
• 10:46
Speaker 11: Virginia just show so much love, like it is just
• 10:49
  Speaker 11: one of those places I don't I don't know, you
• 10:52
Speaker 11: know any other place. I mean, I've played in Detroit,
• 10:54
Speaker 11: I've played in Miami, I played in Canada and.
• 10:58
Speaker 5: All of those places.
• 10:59
Speaker 11: You know, when I come back here, people are are
• 11:01
Speaker 11: always still happy to hear from me or.
• 11:03
Speaker 7: Receiving Yeah, and they kind of we do that in
• 11:05
Speaker 7: West Virginia. We kind of adopt people, you know. And
• 11:08
Speaker 7: the old saying has heard a lot of people say this,
• 11:10
Speaker 7: and I'm not sure who came up with it. I'm
• 11:12
Speaker 7: not from here, but I got here as quick as
• 11:13
Speaker 7: I could. You know, you decided to stay here. So
• 11:15
Speaker 7: let's talk about this event that you got going on,
• 11:18
Speaker 7: because tomorrow up in Morgantown, it's the they don't call
• 11:22
Speaker 7: it the Spring Game anymore. It's the Blue and Gold Showcase,
• 11:25
Speaker 7: I think, or something that Blue Cold Showcase. So you
• 11:28
Speaker 7: decide to put together an opportunity for people that are
• 11:31
Speaker 7: going up and hopefully the.
• 11:32
Speaker 5: Weather will be a little bit better than what it is.
• 11:34
Speaker 7: Now, but to hang out with some mountaineer legends. Talk
• 11:36
Speaker 7: about that, Yeah I did, I did so. So the
• 11:38
Speaker 7: goal the goal is to is to give people access. Again,
• 11:42
Speaker 7: That's that's kind of like my theme is access I
• 11:44
Speaker 7: want to have. I wanted to get everybody access.
• 11:46
Speaker 11: But and doing that, I wanted to make sure that
• 11:50
Speaker 11: it was it was to the point where we are
• 11:52
Speaker 11: we're helping and and we're able to give back to
• 11:57
Speaker 11: the community, and you know, like Natalie said, you know
• 12:00
Speaker 11: we are you know, United Way has helped over one
• 12:03
Speaker 11: hundred thousand people last year. So so when doing that,
• 12:07
Speaker 11: this is a great springboard to help people get back.
• 12:10
Speaker 11: But then also people that love the sport donate a
• 12:13
Speaker 11: little bit. I mean, it's it's where the tickets are
• 12:15
Speaker 11: one hundred and fifty bucks. But who's going to be there.
• 12:18
Speaker 5: Uh. I'm kind of mad at him.
• 12:20
Speaker 11: But Grant Willy just just called me the other day
• 12:22
Speaker 11: and said he's coming, And I asked him like a
• 12:24
Speaker 11: month ago and he's like, yeah, I'm coming. So I'm
• 12:27
Speaker 11: upset him, but he said he was going to be there.
• 12:29
Speaker 11: Quincy Wilson's going to be there. Coach Bob Huggins. Huggins
• 12:32
Speaker 11: is going to be there. Angel Stratt is going to
• 12:35
Speaker 11: be there. It's one of my best friends. Lance Fraser
• 12:39
Speaker 11: is going to be there. We call him ETO. So
• 12:40
Speaker 11: if you you guys don't know who Lance Fraser or
• 12:43
Speaker 11: when you see Lance Fraders, just call him ETO, you know, noted, noted. Yeah,
• 12:47
Speaker 11: and uh, Tory Johnson is going to be there. He's
• 12:50
Speaker 11: got a son that's on the team, and he's got
• 12:53
Speaker 11: another son that's like a five star recruit who's you.
• 12:55
Speaker 5: Know, hopefully we get him too, But he's going to
• 12:57
  Speaker 5: be there.
• 12:59
  Speaker 10: Uh.
• 13:00
Speaker 5: Dussey Quincy, he's going to be there. Jos is gonna
• 13:03
Speaker 5: be there. Jo is gonna be there.
• 13:05
Speaker 7: He's a regular on the show. Brian and I've done
• 13:07
Speaker 7: several charity events together in the past, and Brian and
• 13:09
Speaker 7: I become really good friends, and man, you talk about
• 13:12
Speaker 7: a larger than life personality. I mean Josiak what Josiak
• 13:16
Speaker 7: was when he was playing in the early eighties and
• 13:17
Speaker 7: we all still remember the mohawk and the whole deal.
• 13:20
Speaker 7: And he has done really well for himself. He's like you,
• 13:24
Speaker 7: he's not a West Virginia guy, but he kind of adopted.
• 13:27
Speaker 7: I think he lives in Florida most of and now.
• 13:29
Speaker 5: But man, what a super individual. Joid.
• 13:32
Speaker 11: Yeah, Joe's he you know, he does the josephe Kids.
• 13:35
Speaker 11: I think it's in July every year. And he actually
• 13:39
Speaker 11: donated around a golf for for us to auction off
• 13:43
Speaker 11: for this event as well. So you know, Joe's to
• 13:46
  Speaker 11: stand up. I mean, he's a mountaineer. He's a mountainer
• 13:49
  Speaker 11: through and through.
• 13:50
Speaker 7: Now, so where is the event taking place tomorrow? So
• 13:52
Speaker 7: it's going to be in touchdown terrace.
• 13:54
Speaker 11: We're gonna have food, drinks, everything is going to be available,
• 13:57
Speaker 11: and you get you know, it's supposed to be like
• 13:59
Speaker 11: ninety degree, so it's going to be air conditioned even
• 14:03
Speaker 11: if it's raining. You know, you have you have cover
• 14:05
Speaker 11: that way, So it's gonna be in touchdown terrors and
• 14:08
Speaker 11: you know, we have tickets available, we have about fifteen
• 14:10
Speaker 11: tickets left, so not very many. So if if you
• 14:14
Speaker 11: want to get there, if you want to have access,
• 14:16
Speaker 11: you have to hurry up because they're they're they're moving
• 14:19
  Speaker 11: pretty quick.
• 14:20
Speaker 5: And how do people get tickets?
• 14:21
Speaker 11: So there's several different ways for them to get it.
• 14:24
Speaker 11: First one, they can go on to United Way website
• 14:27
Speaker 11: and uh, go on a couple number two and you know,
• 14:31
Speaker 11: purchase it right there.
• 14:32
Speaker 5: Facebook, we have a.
• 14:34
Speaker 11: Facebook on it's called a Golden Blue I think Golden
• 14:37
Speaker 11: Blue Showcase. They can go on to that and buy
• 14:40
Speaker 11: tickets there, or they can text. Turn my phone off.
• 14:46
Speaker 11: They can text too, because I didn't want I heard
• 14:48
Speaker 11: I heard it if I left my phone on David
• 14:50
Speaker 11: yell at us, so I said, I'm not doing that.
• 14:52
Speaker 11: They can text, uh dance two to seven one seven
• 14:57
Speaker 11: seven seven uh and get to.
• 15:00
Speaker 7: And I've got a flyer that's actually it posted on
• 15:03
Speaker 7: my social media that you sent me last night and
• 15:04
Speaker 7: Dave Vland Radio, so we got information about that and
• 15:08
Speaker 7: and to just have an opportunity to go and hang
• 15:11
Speaker 7: out with these folks and the stories that even though
• 15:15
Speaker 7: and like I said, I've done a lot of events
• 15:17
Speaker 7: with Jozwiak in the past, and when and when he
• 15:20
Speaker 7: has this good when he has this golf tournament up
• 15:22
Speaker 7: there and I've been a part of it, when he
• 15:23
Speaker 7: brings all these players in, there's always these different stories,
• 15:27
Speaker 7: even though they're in different eras. You know, you'll have
• 15:29
Speaker 7: a guy from that played in the nineties that's got
• 15:32
Speaker 7: stories about things going. And then you go back and
• 15:34
Speaker 7: you got a guy like Joziac who was playing there
• 15:35
Speaker 7: in the early eighties and he's guestsworth. But the common
• 15:38
Speaker 7: theme is is the Mountaineers and the gold blue and
• 15:41
Speaker 7: that and that and that shield, you know, the symbol
• 15:44
Speaker 7: that's what brings everybody together. But man, just to be
• 15:46
Speaker 7: I enjoyed when I went to events like that, just
• 15:49
Speaker 7: sitting back and listening, you know, not even participating, just
• 15:53
Speaker 7: listening to the stories.
• 15:55
Speaker 5: And being a guy that that has played.
• 15:57
Speaker 11: I like listening to their stories too, because they're they're
• 16:00
Speaker 11: they're different than ours, because I mean, we kind of
• 16:02
Speaker 11: got into it where the social media started to happen.
• 16:05
Speaker 11: They didn't have any social media, so their stories.
• 16:07
Speaker 5: Thank god so much.
• 16:08
Speaker 10: Thank god they didn't.
• 16:09
  Speaker 5: Have social media.
• 16:10
Speaker 7: Some of those guys, some of the stories that I've
• 16:12
Speaker 7: heard so much, talk a litt I'm gonna go back
• 16:14
Speaker 7: and talk about your career just a little bit. We
• 16:17
Speaker 7: talked about you being a kid from Cambda, New Jersey
• 16:19
Speaker 7: and you came into Morgantown and you were quite a player.
• 16:24
Speaker 7: Look like you could still play by the way, uh
• 16:27
Speaker 7: and and so, and to talk.
• 16:29
Speaker 5: About your career after after WVU.
• 16:32
Speaker 11: Yeah, so so after after WVU, I actually it's funny.
• 16:36
Speaker 11: I actually went onto the Combined website last night to
• 16:40
Speaker 11: see what, you know, what the stats were, and I
• 16:42
Speaker 11: looked myself up and they lied.
• 16:44
Speaker 5: They said I ran like a four to seven.
• 16:45
Speaker 11: I was like, I didn't even run into the combine,
• 16:48
Speaker 11: Like how did they put that on there? So but anyway,
• 16:51
Speaker 11: so after that, I went to the Detroit Lions. I
• 16:53
Speaker 11: played there for two years, and then after that I
• 16:56
Speaker 11: wasn't smart enough. I was one of those young and
• 16:58
Speaker 11: mature people that were you had a whole bunch of money,
• 17:00
Speaker 11: you couldn't tell me anything. When you come from come
• 17:03
  Speaker 11: from money, it's a little bit easy. I didn't come
• 17:04
Speaker 11: from it. So I was like, you wasn't with me
• 17:06
Speaker 11: shooting in the gym, So I'm gonna go ahead and
• 17:08
Speaker 11: do what I went with my money. So then after that,
• 17:10
Speaker 11: I just was not very smart. Went to Miami. My wife,
• 17:14
Speaker 11: she was my girlfriend at the time. She was like,
• 17:16
Speaker 11: you need to stay. I'm like, they're not letting me
• 17:18
Speaker 11: play like she like, they like, who's the.
• 17:20
Speaker 5: Coach of Miami at the time when you were there?
• 17:22
Speaker 11: So Nick Saban it was Nick Saban and just became
• 17:24
Speaker 11: the coach. And you know, they didn't have a running back.
• 17:27
Speaker 11: So I thought, there's gonna be an opportunity there. And again,
• 17:31
Speaker 11: young and dumb and Miami and pocket full of money.
• 17:35
Speaker 11: You don't, you don't, you don't make the right decisions.
• 17:37
Speaker 11: I was coming in meetings late and they were like, okay, yeah,
• 17:40
Speaker 11: you're you gotta go. So so after that, I mean,
• 17:44
Speaker 11: I got back together. I learned my lesson, went up
• 17:46
Speaker 11: to Canada and stayed in Canada for for seven years playing.
• 17:51
Speaker 11: We won two Great Cup Championships up there, won won
• 17:56
Speaker 11: MVP of one of the Great Cups, and uh, it
• 17:59
  Speaker 11: was crazy.
• 18:00
Speaker 10: Had a goal to do that and it actually came true.
• 18:03
Speaker 11: It's it's rare, but it's you know because when you
• 18:06
Speaker 11: see it, and I was like, that's all I want
• 18:07
Speaker 11: to do this year is win MVP of the Great Cup.
• 18:09
Speaker 11: I mean, I want to win a Great Cup obviously,
• 18:11
Speaker 11: but I want an MVP.
• 18:12
  Speaker 5: So that happened.
• 18:13
Speaker 11: And then after I transitioned out of out of playing,
• 18:17
Speaker 11: I started coaching up there. So I coached up there
• 18:20
Speaker 11: for three years. So I was total in Canada for
• 18:21
Speaker 11: ten years. And then I left and my wife is
• 18:25
Speaker 11: still mad at me from leaving.
• 18:28
Speaker 7: We're talking to avon Kilburn and again, this event's going
• 18:31
Speaker 7: to be in Morgantown tomorrow. Talk about the current state
• 18:34
Speaker 7: of Mountain AEIR football. I mean, there's a lot of excitement,
• 18:36
Speaker 7: uh with with rich Rod coming back and uh, and
• 18:41
Speaker 7: there's a lot in the world of college sports.
• 18:43
  Speaker 13: Man.
• 18:43
Speaker 5: You know, it has changed so much. I mean we.
• 18:46
Speaker 7: Talked about that with a new basketball coach yesterday, Coach Odge.
• 18:49
Speaker 7: It's like you have a different different team every year.
• 18:52
Speaker 7: Not so much on football because it's such a big roster,
• 18:55
Speaker 7: but people changing, nil comes into it.
• 18:58
Speaker 5: Stuff. None of that stuff was around when you were there.
• 19:01
Speaker 7: But to talk about the talk about the whole spirit
• 19:05
Speaker 7: of Mountaineers going into the upcoming season.
• 19:07
Speaker 11: I mean, it's so much excitement right now, Dave, Dave,
• 19:09
Speaker 11: we are we former players are super excited because one
• 19:14
Speaker 11: they got one of us. Like regardless if if you
• 19:17
Speaker 11: played for rich Rod, if you he welcomes everybody. And
• 19:22
Speaker 11: when I was previous to him, we come in, the
• 19:24
Speaker 11: doors were locked. People act like they didn't care who
• 19:27
Speaker 11: you were, even though they wouldn't be there if you
• 19:29
Speaker 11: wasn't there, if you didn't come and do what you
• 19:31
Speaker 11: did to bring to get the program to where it is.
• 19:34
Speaker 5: But now I mean no locked doors. You know what
• 19:36
  Speaker 5: I mean.
• 19:37
Speaker 11: It's you have access. You know, obviously within reason, you
• 19:40
Speaker 11: have access to the facilities. And I mean I haven't
• 19:43
  Speaker 11: I haven't talked to a guy that wasn't excited about
• 19:47
Speaker 11: you know, the the what's coming. And one thing that
• 19:50
Speaker 11: he always says is which I truly believe, if we
• 19:53
Speaker 11: don't win, we you will not see a lot lester
• 19:56
Speaker 11: performance like if we if we're regardless from the first
• 19:59
Speaker 11: place to the last play, they will play as hard
• 20:02
Speaker 11: as and I believe that because that's what we that's
• 20:04
Speaker 11: who we are, that's what we do, and we're gonna
• 20:07
Speaker 11: play as hard as we can for as long as
• 20:08
Speaker 11: we can. And you know, if we don't win, it's
• 20:11
Speaker 11: because of you know, we ran out of time. It's
• 20:13
Speaker 11: not because we didn't play hard enough. So that's the
• 20:15
Speaker 11: one thing that I'm super excited about. That's the one
• 20:17
Speaker 11: thing that in the past, you know, these kids are playing,
• 20:20
Speaker 11: they they started getting paid in the performance. You know,
• 20:23
Speaker 11: the product on the field did not translate to what
• 20:26
Speaker 11: their bank accounts, especially former guys that that you know,
• 20:29
Speaker 11: we're stars and didn't get that bank account that these
• 20:32
Speaker 11: kids have now and they go out and not play hard.
• 20:36
Speaker 11: It's just it's very, very, very tough to watch. But
• 20:41
Speaker 11: now the excitement that we have with you know, Rich
• 20:44
Speaker 11: Rock coming back with the no nonsense.
• 20:46
Speaker 5: He wants to coach the players.
• 20:47
Speaker 11: He wants players that wants to be coached and play hard,
• 20:50
Speaker 11: just just you know, because West Virginia is a different place.
• 20:53
  Speaker 11: It's not a place that is We're blue collar. We're
• 20:55
Speaker 11: blue collar people that expect, you know, greatness, And I'm
• 21:00
Speaker 11: I mean, I'm not on the side that we want
• 21:01
Speaker 11: to we wanna you know, we don't have time to
• 21:03
Speaker 11: find out, you know, we want to win now. And
• 21:06
Speaker 11: you know, with this nil and the opportunity to go
• 21:09
Speaker 11: get great players. I mean, the excitement on the players side,
• 21:13
Speaker 11: I can speak for everybody. We are excited that we
• 21:16
Speaker 11: have a guy that's going to make these kids play hard.
• 21:18
Speaker 7: All right, Avon Cobourn, I appreciate you being here. Let's
• 21:20
Speaker 7: give us all the details about the event. And I
• 21:22
Speaker 7: feel like I haven't spent a whole lot of time
• 21:24
Speaker 7: talking to you. I apologize, but I'm such.
• 21:25
  Speaker 5: A football nerd. It's like I come in, I'm not
• 21:27
Speaker 5: I'm talking to Avon Cobra and you know what I mean.
• 21:29
Speaker 7: But but what you do, uh, talk about the event, talk,
• 21:33
Speaker 7: just talk about everything that you do.
• 21:34
Speaker 12: Sure, so the main event for Dancing with the Stars
• 21:37
  Speaker 12: is May second.
• 21:39
  Speaker 14: Uh.
• 21:39
Speaker 12: Tickets are very low, so if you're interested in going.
• 21:43
Speaker 5: Uh, and where is where's the event held?
• 21:45
Speaker 12: It's going to be at the Chrston Cossia.
• 21:46
Speaker 5: The Consume Commissioner. Okay, go ahead, Convention Center.
• 21:49
Speaker 12: So we're really excited.
• 21:51
  Speaker 5: Uh.
• 21:51
Speaker 12: There are six teams, six couples. Again, we're a couple
• 21:55
Speaker 12: number two. So get out there and vote for us.
• 21:58
Speaker 12: And it's just so great to to work with, not
• 22:01
Speaker 12: just Avon of course, but just a group of people
• 22:04
Speaker 12: who really care about the community, and we all have
• 22:06
Speaker 12: one goal in mine is to raise this money. So
• 22:10
Speaker 12: even if you're not able to go to the event,
• 22:12
Speaker 12: you can always donate to our campaign and you can
• 22:16
Speaker 12: find the information at United Way CWV dot org and
• 22:22

• 22:23
Speaker 7: All right, and the event in Morgantown tomorrow, Yeah, event
• 22:26
Speaker 7: more Morgantown tomorrow is gonna be a touchdown Terrorist you know,
• 22:29
Speaker 7: it started a game.
• 22:30
Speaker 5: Get there a little earlier. Tickets.
• 22:32
Speaker 11: We have about fifteen tickets left and we want to
• 22:35
Speaker 11: make sure that we get this place filled up and
• 22:38
Speaker 11: all donations one hundred percent of it is going to
• 22:40
Speaker 11: United Way. And we're doing this just to raise money.
• 22:43
Speaker 11: We have this event and we may have one other one.
• 22:47
Speaker 11: It is pending, depending on if we can get Coach Rod.
• 22:50
Speaker 11: That's a teaser. We can get Coach Rod down here.
• 22:53
Speaker 11: We have one other one that is pending. But next

Speaker 7: I could just sit and talk football all day, but
• 26:59
Speaker 7: that's that's not what they paid me to do. They
• 27:02
Speaker 7: paid me to talk about other things, including things going
• 27:04
Speaker 7: on the news, including introducing you to the latest magistrate
• 27:08
Speaker 7: here in Kanawa County.
• 27:09
Speaker 5: It's Harry Carpenter. How you doing, man, doing good, Dave.
• 27:12
Speaker 14: Good to see you again.
• 27:13
Speaker 5: Welcome to the show.
• 27:14
Speaker 7: And it's interesting because the picture that we posted on
• 27:18
Speaker 7: the social media to promote you being here was the
• 27:22
Speaker 7: last time that you were here, and that's when you
• 27:23
Speaker 7: were running for the office. And we were in the
• 27:25
Speaker 7: old studio and I walked in. I said, changed a
• 27:28
Speaker 7: little bit since the last time you were here.
• 27:30
Speaker 14: Yes, very sure, has Man. This is state of the art.
• 27:33
Speaker 7: Yeah, and like I said, once we learn how to
• 27:35
Speaker 7: operate a little bit even better, little even better. Talk
• 27:38
Speaker 7: about you were appointed to the matter position out of
• 27:42
Speaker 7: District eight. So for this was the point we came
• 27:45
Speaker 7: from a Judge Ballard. For people that don't know about you,
• 27:50
Speaker 7: just tell us about Harry Carpenter.
• 27:51
Speaker 14: Well, I worked for the Sheriff's office for almost twenty
• 27:55
Speaker 14: five years, spent my last twelve years there as the
• 27:59
Speaker 14: chief of the Home Confinement Division, and up until yesterday
• 28:05
Speaker 14: I was still working part time doing background checks for
• 28:08
Speaker 14: concealed carry permits. I got three grandchildren, and I love
• 28:17
Speaker 14: ridding my motorcycle and traveling.
• 28:19
Speaker 7: Okay, so you were appointed to the position by Judge
• 28:22
  Speaker 7: Kenneth Ballard.
• 28:23
Speaker 5: What led to the appointment.
• 28:25
Speaker 14: Master Jack Polly retired about a week or so ago,
• 28:30
Speaker 14: and congrats to Jack. He's a great guy man. I
• 28:33
Speaker 14: worked with him for many, many, many years. And when
• 28:38
Speaker 14: the magistrate retires or leaves or what have you, then
• 28:42
Speaker 14: the chief Judge, the sitting chief judge at the time,
• 28:48
Speaker 14: has to make the replacement. And Judge Ballard, I've known
• 28:52
Speaker 14: him for a number of years and straight up guy.
• 28:56
Speaker 14: And he went through the process, took applications, reviewed them,
• 29:01
Speaker 14: did interviews and I was fortunate enough to get the NOD.
• 29:07
Speaker 7: I'm talking with Harry Carpenter, who has just been appointed
• 29:10
Speaker 7: as the new magistrate in Canawa County District. The The

• 29:28
Speaker 7: You talked a little bit about your experience, Harry. What
• 29:31
Speaker 7: do you think that all that experience brings to the
• 29:34
Speaker 7: table for you as a magistrate?
• 29:35
Speaker 14: Well During my career, I spent virtually every day in
• 29:40
Speaker 14: the judicial building, working with the magistrates in the circuit
• 29:44
Speaker 14: judges and defense attorneys and the prosecutors. So it's not like,
• 29:49
Speaker 14: you know, I'm going in with my eyes wide and shut.
• 29:53
Speaker 14: And so I'm sure the transition will be very smooth
• 29:57
Speaker 14: and I'm fairly confident. That's what Judge Ballard saw also.
• 30:03
Speaker 14: And again I can't thank him enough for, you know,
• 30:07
Speaker 14: making me the appointed e. But my history with the
• 30:12
Speaker 14: Sheriff's Office, I think will will prepare me for what's ahead.
• 30:18
Speaker 7: Of course, And here you've been in this for a
• 30:20
Speaker 7: long time, and you know, and anyone that's in a
• 30:22
Speaker 7: courtroom or out on the streets or the hollers in
• 30:25
Speaker 7: West Virginia, Knawah County, no matter where you are, a
• 30:28
Speaker 7: majority of your crimes are overwhelming majority are going to
• 30:32
Speaker 7: involve drugs. I mean, whether it's larceny, whether it's robberies
• 30:36
Speaker 7: or some type shootings, whatever it's rough out there.
• 30:40
Speaker 14: Yeah, and you know, I experienced all that, uh, you know,
• 30:44
Speaker 14: working with the Sheriff's office, and you're right, you know,
• 30:49
Speaker 14: most of the time, whatever the crime is goes back
• 30:52
Speaker 14: to drugs or alcohol and that's unfortunate, but you know,
• 30:59
Speaker 14: Knall County has taken steps, you know, to try to
• 31:03
Speaker 14: help with that. You know, Judge Jennifer Bailey has her
• 31:07
Speaker 14: adult drug Court and it's been very successful for the
• 31:12
Speaker 14: last number of years, and they have a juvenile drug
• 31:16
Speaker 14: Court and the day Report program. So the Court's been
• 31:20
Speaker 14: progressive about trying, you know, to help people that want
• 31:26
  Speaker 14: and need help.
• 31:27
Speaker 7: I remember when we I brought you in here on
• 31:31
Speaker 7: a previous campaign and you you talked about that drug
• 31:34
Speaker 7: court and how you were a big proponent of it.
• 31:37
Speaker 14: Well, I was one of the original board members when
• 31:39
Speaker 14: it started, and you know, we had some speed bumps
• 31:43
Speaker 14: and trip a little bit, but it's uh, you know,
• 31:48
Speaker 14: the people that were involved with it stayed true to
• 31:52
Speaker 14: it and didn't give up, so you know that's uh.
• 31:58
Speaker 14: I don't know so much about the details of it
• 32:00
Speaker 14: now because I haven't been involved with it, but I
• 32:04
Speaker 14: know it still continues and it's these drug courts.
• 32:08
Speaker 7: I know over in the Putnam County where I live,
• 32:12
Speaker 7: it's been a huge success over there and in other
• 32:14
Speaker 7: areas of the state too.
• 32:15
Speaker 14: Right, And you know, and the judge has to believe
• 32:18
Speaker 14: in it, and Judge Bailey she's a believer. I mean,
• 32:23
Speaker 14: you know, she's been with it from day one. As
• 32:26
Speaker 14: a matter of fact, I think Judge Ballard, if I'm
• 32:29
Speaker 14: not mistaken, was over the juvenile drug court program. I
• 32:34
Speaker 14: don't know if he still is or not, but I
• 32:35
Speaker 14: think at one time he initiated that program. So you know,
• 32:40
Speaker 14: Kennall County is being you know, progressive and trying to
• 32:44
Speaker 14: fight this epidemic, and you know, I just hope to
• 32:48
Speaker 14: be another part of that.
• 32:50

• 33:11
Speaker 5: it's our waiting period where.
• 33:12
Speaker 14: We all yeah, it's kind of a learning experience. I
• 33:17
Speaker 14: guess yes, I have been appointed. The order has been entered. Monday,
• 33:22
Speaker 14: I started a four day session over at the Embassy
• 33:25
Speaker 14: Suite with all new magistrates that came.
• 33:29
Speaker 5: Magistrate school, so to speak.
• 33:30
Speaker 14: Yes, yeah, well yeah, yeah, but it's with all the
• 33:34
Speaker 14: new masts that came in in January. So I'm really
• 33:37
Speaker 14: I'm looking forward to that. I've already reached out to
• 33:41
Speaker 14: Jack's assistant and assured her that, you know, she's if
• 33:46
Speaker 14: she's willing to stay, I'd be more than happy, happy
• 33:49
Speaker 14: for to be with me because we all know that.
• 33:52
Speaker 14: And Carrie's been doing this for fifteen years, okay, and
• 34:00
Speaker 14: i'd really like to average day and she's going to okay,
• 34:03
Speaker 14: and she's very very confident and does a great job
• 34:06
Speaker 14: over there, and we worked together in the past.
• 34:08
Speaker 7: Well, I think sometimes people forget that when you're in
• 34:12
Speaker 7: a job like that, that your assistance and your team.
• 34:16
Speaker 5: Without without there, without.
• 34:17
Speaker 7: Them, you don't get a whole lot done, you know,
• 34:19
Speaker 7: because you've got to have that team behind you.
• 34:21
Speaker 14: Well, you're only as strong as your weakest link, and
• 34:23
Speaker 14: going in with her, I'm the weak link.
• 34:26
Speaker 5: Okay, I'm sure you'll get there though.
• 34:27
Speaker 14: Yeah it is uh uh. And again, you know, and
• 34:32
Speaker 14: I've said that and to anybody that'll listened for my
• 34:36
Speaker 14: whole career. You know, you can't put a number on
• 34:39
Speaker 14: a good assistant and We've had several of them around
• 34:43
Speaker 14: the Sheriff's offices that are invaluable.
• 34:46
Speaker 7: Before we let you go, probably would be remiss if
• 34:48
Speaker 7: we didn't give you an opportunity to thank some people
• 34:51
Speaker 7: in your life that you know that you got to
• 34:53
Speaker 7: this position again. You were appointed yesterdays the new magiss
• 34:56
Speaker 7: in industrict day. But if you want to thank anybody
• 34:59
Speaker 7: in your family or anything, now's your time.
• 35:01
Speaker 14: Well, you know, first and foremost, I'd like to thank
• 35:04
Speaker 14: Judge ken Ballard for having the faith in uh and
• 35:08
Speaker 14: appointing me. And uh, you know that without that, we
• 35:11
Speaker 14: wouldn't be sitting here. And my daughter and son in
• 35:14
Speaker 14: law Cassie and Quentin Davis that stood beside me through
• 35:18
Speaker 14: this whole, this whole thing and work their butts off,
• 35:22
Speaker 14: and and uh, you know the multitude of people that
• 35:27
Speaker 14: have supported me. I really don't want to mention any names.
• 35:30
  Speaker 14: I'm afraid I'll leave something.
• 35:32
Speaker 5: Then you get in trouble and you're not even there yet.
• 35:34
Speaker 14: Well, and you know, my Facebook and my phone yesterday
• 35:39
Speaker 14: just was gone crazy. So I'll probably have to do
• 35:44
Speaker 14: just a one post thing and think every everybody, yeah,
• 35:47
Speaker 14: because there's no way I can hit them all.
• 35:50
Speaker 7: All right, Harry, congratulations. I'm sure you'll do a great
• 35:53
Speaker 7: job in that position.
• 35:55
Speaker 14: Well, thank you, Dave, and I appreciate you having me
• 35:57
Speaker 14: in here. And as always, of course this time particularly, man,
• 36:01
Speaker 14: I feel like I'm really in a professional environment.

• 36:06
Speaker 7: so professional here yet.
• 36:07
Speaker 14: That's why I keep looking the other way.

Speaker 5: No No, it was.
• 41:37
Speaker 7: I didn't plan on doing it. It just it just
• 41:39
Speaker 7: kind of came off, and it just it wasn't good.
• 41:41
Speaker 7: I was talking about all this stuff and I hear
• 41:43
Speaker 7: it off the how Johnny used to do in the
• 41:45
Speaker 7: wow and wacky stuff, and it's a truly bad. It's
• 41:47
  Speaker 7: a it's a truly bad. Where's your coffee cup and
• 41:50
Speaker 7: your cigarette? I got my coffee cup here. I don't smoke,
• 41:52
Speaker 7: but I do have a pin. How's that that don't work?
• 41:54
Speaker 5: All right? I'm more likely to have a slim gem
• 41:56
Speaker 5: in my hand that I have nothing wrong with the
• 41:58
Speaker 5: slim chin that I am to have a.
• 42:01
Speaker 7: Cigarette. So the texture was asking about tariffs. You were
• 42:05
Speaker 7: on the Metro News midday show with me yesterday and
• 42:08
Speaker 7: also you were on talk On of course, as you
• 42:10
Speaker 7: are every day with Wilson, so I know you've always
• 42:12
Speaker 7: got a lot on your mind about tariffs.
• 42:14
Speaker 10: So I think the Wall Street Journal editorial this morning
• 42:17
Speaker 10: probably captured at best. The Financial Time is another one,
• 42:20
Speaker 10: but the gist of what they said was the worst
• 42:23
Speaker 10: self sabotage of the economy in US history.
• 42:27
Speaker 5: And why do they say that?
• 42:29
Speaker 10: Because we're inflicting this on ourselves. We started it. This
• 42:32
Speaker 10: thing about retaliatory tariffs, I think that's a false narrative. Frankly,
• 42:39
Speaker 10: We're always going to have some level of tariff against us.
• 42:42
Speaker 10: We're always going to have some level of trade deficit.
• 42:44
  Speaker 10: That's what you get when you're a rich nation. That's
• 42:47
Speaker 10: what you get when your economy is more services focused
• 42:53
Speaker 10: and innovation focused, because that's what we do best. So
• 42:56
Speaker 10: we let somebody else make stuff. And the market bears
• 43:01
Speaker 10: me out on that. We're down again. What at the
• 43:03
Speaker 10: open today and of the twelve hundred points yesterday, Dave,
• 43:05
Speaker 10: the market lost three point one trillion dollars in value. Well,
• 43:11
Speaker 10: what would you say to those that say, I'll play
• 43:13
Speaker 10: devil's advocate here? What would you say to those that say, well,
• 43:16
  Speaker 10: it's temporary, it's a correction. We're not where we're going
• 43:20
Speaker 10: to be yet, we got to have a little bit
• 43:22
Speaker 10: of We got to inflict a little bit of pain
• 43:23
Speaker 10: to get a little bit of pleasure, so to speak.
• 43:25
Speaker 5: What would you say to that.
• 43:26
Speaker 10: There's nothing temporary about it unless the president walks it back,
• 43:29
Speaker 10: And so far he's showing no signs that he's willing
• 43:32
Speaker 10: to do that, And frankly, I think he has one
• 43:34
Speaker 10: more trading day to be able to walk it back
• 43:37
Speaker 10: before you've lost a lot of value that you're not
• 43:39
Speaker 10: going to be able to regain. If he walks it
• 43:42
Speaker 10: back today, there's a good chance the market could rebound,
• 43:46
Speaker 10: in my opinion, and regain a lot of the value
• 43:48
Speaker 10: that we lost yesterday and what we're losing today.
• 43:51
Speaker 7: Well, let's be honest, what are the chances of him
• 43:53
Speaker 7: walking back? No, when has Donald Trump ever walked in Hell, it.
• 43:57
Speaker 10: Would be a loss. China's now back with thirty four
• 44:01
Speaker 10: percent today. That's what's dragging the market down. They said, Okay,
• 44:03
Speaker 10: we'll throw thirty four percent tariff on everything that you
• 44:06
Speaker 10: guys send over here. This is not a president that
• 44:09
Speaker 10: will walk that back, because this is not a president
• 44:12
Speaker 10: that likes to lose. Here's the fallacy in his thinking.
• 44:15
Speaker 10: They talk about on shoring of manufacturing jobs again. Number one,
• 44:19
Speaker 10: takes a long time to get a factory back open here.
• 44:22
Speaker 10: There'll be some exceptions. Right, even if you get it
• 44:25
Speaker 10: open again, even if you manufacture here again, it's not
• 44:27
Speaker 10: going to be human capital that does that job. It's
• 44:29
Speaker 10: going to be roboticized and it's going to use AI.
• 44:31
Speaker 7: So that doesn't the only people that you're going to
• 44:34
Speaker 7: get are the people that repair those things when they
• 44:37
Speaker 7: go down. And that's not as many as I having
• 44:39
  Speaker 7: actual workers.
• 44:40
Speaker 10: What is on the big show today, Sir so WVU
