- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites, the podcast from the Volume Podcast Network.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I am Chad Norman. It is going to be college
- 0:17Speaker 1: football season in a matter of weeks. We're down from
- 0:21Speaker 1: this day as we are recording, we are down to
- 0:24Speaker 1: about seventeen days until week zero begins. In case you
- 0:29Speaker 1: haven't noticed, we have a brand new podcast feed for
- 0:32Speaker 1: all of our podcast for all of our college podcast content,
- 0:36Speaker 1: Big Bets on Campus, which debuted a number twelve on
- 0:41Speaker 1: the iTunes Sports Charts this week. It is hosted by
- 0:45Speaker 1: Colin Wilson and Stucky, the same great college football podcast
- 0:51Speaker 1: they always used to do on the Action Network feed,
- 0:53Speaker 1: only now it's brand new feed, Big Bets on Campus.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Everyone go check it out. I think we'd be remiss
- 0:59Speaker 1: even of the Favorites. It tends to be focused on
- 1:03Speaker 1: the NFL, and Simon Hunter is going to be coming
- 1:05Speaker 1: on uh for the second episode we do this week,
- 1:09Speaker 1: along with Chris Raybon. But we gotta do a little
- 1:11Speaker 1: bit of college um because eventually some of these college
- 1:14Speaker 1: guys are gonna be in the NFL. You want to
- 1:16Speaker 1: know what you want to know right now before it
- 1:17Speaker 1: gets too late. Colin Wilson, Pig Suey, whoo whoo, Pig
- 1:23Speaker 1: suey whoo, Pig suey chat win total of five and
- 1:26Speaker 1: a half at five point six. I hope Arkansas can
- 1:29Speaker 1: make a bowl. We were a three win team that
- 1:32Speaker 1: made the Texas Bowl and COVID canceled it because the TCU.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I hope there's no COVID. I hope these vaccination rates
- 1:39Speaker 1: go way up for these teams and we don't have
- 1:40Speaker 1: any issues whatsoever this fall. What am I supposed to
- 1:44Speaker 1: do with college football column? Why is it going to
- 1:48Speaker 1: be any different than Clemson's the best, Ohio States the best,
- 1:53Speaker 1: Alabama's the best, Oklahoma's the best, Georgia's the best. Give
- 1:59Speaker 1: me something to root for season long. That is not
- 2:04Speaker 1: about those four or five teams. If you want that
- 2:08Speaker 1: kind of drama, then you have to go to the
- 2:09Speaker 1: Group of five. But you know, I think it's like
- 2:12Speaker 1: I both agree on our podcast that Georgia and Oklahoma
- 2:15Speaker 1: is going to be the national championship game. These are
- 2:17Speaker 1: the teams that don't have any turnover in their coaching stabs.
- 2:20Speaker 1: These are the teams that don't have turnover at the
- 2:22Speaker 1: quarterback position. All the other big blue bloods do. Uh
- 2:27Speaker 1: and I hate to say it, but we've turned into
- 2:29Speaker 1: the n B A. We used to joke when we
- 2:31Speaker 1: started podcasting five years ago, we knew the Warriors would
- 2:34Speaker 1: be in the finals. We knew it for nine months.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And now college football has turned into a sport where
- 2:39Speaker 1: six teams can win the national championship. I mean, we're
- 2:42Speaker 1: still looking at only ten teams that have ever ten
- 2:45Speaker 1: programs have only ever made the College Football Playoff. It's
- 2:48Speaker 1: it's really uh. This is the season where Cincinnati is
- 2:51Speaker 1: going to be probably the best group of five to
- 2:53Speaker 1: ever play in the college football playoff era, and they'll
- 2:55Speaker 1: have no chance, even beating Notre Dame, they'll have no
- 2:58Speaker 1: chance to make the playoff. Well, well, let's talk about
- 3:01Speaker 1: that for a second. A. I love Cincinnati being great.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I love it because in a lot of ways, you
- 3:08Speaker 1: could argue Luke Fickle, who's the coach at Cincinnati, got
- 3:12Speaker 1: totally screwed at Ohio State right because he had to
- 3:18Speaker 1: manage that team for a shitty period of time in
- 3:22Speaker 1: the program's history, and instead of getting real consideration to
- 3:27Speaker 1: eventually be the head coach at Ohio State, it's clear
- 3:29Speaker 1: to him that he's not going to get that, so
- 3:31Speaker 1: he goes to Cincinnati and has turned a mediocre, moribund
- 3:36Speaker 1: program that would be good every fourth or fifth year
- 3:39Speaker 1: into a group of five juggering what people are all
- 3:41Speaker 1: of a sudden saying they are the tip of the
- 3:44Speaker 1: spear on the argument for expanding the playoff to get
- 3:46Speaker 1: teams like Cincinnati into it. Good for him, good for Cincinnati? Yeah,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I completely agree, and I think Cincinnati is the team
- 3:53Speaker 1: if you you're not gonna get one of these teams
- 3:55Speaker 1: in unless you have to win conference champions And I
- 3:59Speaker 1: think the bar was really the Playoff Committee set the
- 4:03Speaker 1: bar when they said Alabama as a one loss at large,
- 4:06Speaker 1: we'll get in above an Ohio State with two losses.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So I think if we're looking down the line, I
- 4:10Speaker 1: think since I can go in defeed, I think they
- 4:12Speaker 1: win their conference. I think they can beat Notre Dame.
- 4:13Speaker 1: They have two shutdown corners. Desmond Ritter's explosiveness was off
- 4:17Speaker 1: the chart last year. But I really interested to see
- 4:19Speaker 1: if Michigan fires Jim Harbor at the end of the
- 4:21Speaker 1: season and Luke Fickle is the head coach of mission
- 4:24Speaker 1: of Ohio State's biggest rival, that would be heck of
- 4:28Speaker 1: a storyline. I didn't even consider that. You know what's interesting,
- 4:35Speaker 1: I listened to UM. I listened to the Big Bets
- 4:39Speaker 1: on Campus podcast this past week. It was the Big
- 4:43Speaker 1: ten episode and it's brilliant and and you guys talked
- 4:49Speaker 1: a lot about Michigan, a lot about the luster of
- 4:53Speaker 1: that brand name, how it's influencing the season win totals
- 4:57Speaker 1: for that team. Breakdown the Michigan, the reality for Michigan
- 5:03Speaker 1: and what you see versus what bookmakers tend to see
- 5:06Speaker 1: and how they post the number and what the discrepancy is. Yeah,
- 5:10Speaker 1: that's that's a real problem for Michigan is that they're
- 5:12Speaker 1: in a very heavy betting state, so there's going to
- 5:15Speaker 1: always be an appetite for the Wolverines. And then there's
- 5:17Speaker 1: just this class of alumni and fan that grew up
- 5:20Speaker 1: on Michigan football and still thinks that their national title
- 5:23Speaker 1: relevant or that they're even conference relevant, and they're not.
- 5:26Speaker 1: You've got quarterback to play has just been in the dumps.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Milton last year had more way more turnover worthy plays
- 5:33Speaker 1: than actual big time throws. He moves on. Some of
- 5:36Speaker 1: their other skill town has moved on. You know, the
- 5:38Speaker 1: running back went to u c. L A. Now We've
- 5:40Speaker 1: got a kid Mcnamerican that's played one game, looked okay,
- 5:44Speaker 1: We've got Bowman coming in from Texas Tech. It's it's
- 5:46Speaker 1: kind of a mess. And I think it starts at
- 5:48Speaker 1: the top because herball went and got Josh Gadness as
- 5:50Speaker 1: offensive coordinator after having this amazing season for Alabama. He
- 5:54Speaker 1: was the next coming of all offensive coordinators. What we
- 5:57Speaker 1: thought we were gonna get with Josh Gadis is what
- 6:00Speaker 1: we got with Joe Burrow uh down at LSU that season,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and it just never happened for Gaddis on the defense. Meanwhile,
- 6:07Speaker 1: the I'm sorry, it just never happened on the offense. Meanwhile,
- 6:11Speaker 1: the defense continues to get torched. Uh, they're switching schemes.
- 6:15Speaker 1: There's players you know coming in that it's just not
- 6:17Speaker 1: up to the recruiting talent that they've had in the past.
- 6:19Speaker 1: So I think Jim Harbas do for another six seven
- 6:23Speaker 1: win season, a bowl that Michigan fans don't want to
- 6:26Speaker 1: be in. But yet the oddsmakers set this total at
- 6:28Speaker 1: seven and a half. Why because they know they're gonna
- 6:30Speaker 1: get over money all day on seven and six and
- 6:33Speaker 1: a half. It's just a team in a state where
- 6:35Speaker 1: there's heavy amount of betting where you can't set an
- 6:37Speaker 1: actual number if it's lower, it's Harbaugh a fraud. As
- 6:42Speaker 1: a coach, he wears on, he wears thin on on players,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and that's what happened with the Niners. And then the
- 6:51Speaker 1: Niners players are like, listen, I'm a pro. I don't
- 6:53Speaker 1: need this ship. You're up in my face all the time,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and and you know you grind on me. That's just
- 6:59Speaker 1: how he is a coach. Now, you can get away
- 7:00Speaker 1: with that at the college level. These are kids are
- 7:02Speaker 1: in and out of the program in three years. But
- 7:04Speaker 1: the fan base I think is a little liared of
- 7:07Speaker 1: some of you know, why are we hanging back with
- 7:09Speaker 1: the joes of the Big ten? Why are we having
- 7:12Speaker 1: problems with some of the bottom seller tins. We were
- 7:14Speaker 1: not challenging Ohio State anymore. We're you know, the discrepancy
- 7:18Speaker 1: is getting larger between us and the blue bloods of
- 7:20Speaker 1: the conference. We haven't made a college football playoff. We
- 7:23Speaker 1: haven't sniffed the playoff. Uh. You know, it's really up
- 7:28Speaker 1: to the boosters, the fans in the alumni about how
- 7:30Speaker 1: they feel about one of their own, because you know
- 7:33Speaker 1: what's gonna happen once they fire hardball. We gotta go
- 7:35Speaker 1: out and get a Michigan guy. If we don't get
- 7:37Speaker 1: a Michigan guy, it's gonna be Rich Rodriguez all the way.
- 7:39Speaker 1: It's many I forgot Michigan fans saying that they have
- 7:45Speaker 1: been in the cocktail. Yes, a Michigan man. It's who
- 7:48Speaker 1: are you gonna go get? Right? And if there's no
- 7:50Speaker 1: one there that has Michigan ties, then here we are,
- 7:53Speaker 1: you know, running the same circle. Wow, that would be fascinating.
- 7:57Speaker 1: At the end of the year of Luke Fickle has
- 7:59Speaker 1: the opportunity to take Michigan. Is there any chance someone
- 8:03Speaker 1: like Luke Fickle says I'm pretty happy at Cincinnati and
- 8:08Speaker 1: doesn't attempt to take a Michigan job. Or is the
- 8:11Speaker 1: way college football is going and especially with Oklahoma and
- 8:15Speaker 1: Texas now headed for the SEC, coaches are going to
- 8:19Speaker 1: there's even more of a premium on those Power five
- 8:22Speaker 1: schools because that's the only way you're going to get
- 8:26Speaker 1: a chance to play for a national title. It's it's
- 8:29Speaker 1: a big balance between what are your career aspirations versus
- 8:33Speaker 1: your comfort and life? All Right, Luke Fickle's you know,
- 8:36Speaker 1: Ohio just his entire career and his love of Ohio
- 8:41Speaker 1: can cannot be said enough. But at the same time,
- 8:44Speaker 1: if a team from the SEC it is drawing just
- 8:47Speaker 1: tons of money and they're throwing tons of money at
- 8:49Speaker 1: you to come to their program, you obviously have to
- 8:51Speaker 1: make a decision to go. Why Matt Campbell's never left
- 8:53Speaker 1: Iowa State, I have no clue. They have a ceiling
- 8:56Speaker 1: on them from a wind total perspective, from national expectations perspective,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and the more that he doesn't make the Cultural Playoff
- 9:03Speaker 1: or win the Big Twelve, then he's going to be
- 9:05Speaker 1: letting fans down, even though they've only had three nine
- 9:07Speaker 1: win seasons and program history since the eighteen nineties. So
- 9:11Speaker 1: these coaches like Fickle and Matt Campbell, at some point
- 9:13Speaker 1: they've got to gravitate to where the money is. And
- 9:15Speaker 1: if you have career aspirations, I mean, we all do
- 9:18Speaker 1: in the field that we're in. We want to do
- 9:19Speaker 1: better and climb that ladder. Cincinnati and Iowas Iowa State
- 9:22Speaker 1: are not final destinations. I don't really feel they need
- 9:26Speaker 1: to climb the ladder anymore. We are the top of
- 9:29Speaker 1: the ladder. We I'm like, I'm like standing on a
- 9:33Speaker 1: rung that doesn't even exist, Colin, there's nothing left for
- 9:36Speaker 1: me to climb. Anything from here on out is just
- 9:40Speaker 1: kind of showing off. Um. You mentioned Iowa State, that program,
- 9:45Speaker 1: that team outside of the ones, we mentioned another program
- 9:51Speaker 1: that has huge upside this year. Yeah, they do. And
- 9:55Speaker 1: I think what we mentioned on the Big twelve podcast
- 9:58Speaker 1: was there's a ceiling to this team. And I listen,
- 10:01Speaker 1: I'm not a hater of Iowa State, and I'm not
- 10:03Speaker 1: a hater of Matt Campbell, but and they run this
- 10:05Speaker 1: beautiful offense that integrates two tight ends, three tight end sets,
- 10:08Speaker 1: lots of motion going to confuse you, and Rock Party
- 10:11Speaker 1: wins everybody bets in October. That's great, but you're still
- 10:16Speaker 1: going to three overtimes against Northern Iowa. You still haven't
- 10:18Speaker 1: beat Kirk Ference at Iowa. Uh, you're losing to group
- 10:22Speaker 1: of five schools in September. And I think we have
- 10:25Speaker 1: to remember that as loaded as his team and as
- 10:27Speaker 1: talented as his team is, there's still just three stars.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Maybe if a four star like Greece Hall was a
- 10:33Speaker 1: four star in there, and when you go up against
- 10:35Speaker 1: an Oklahoma team that is just shocked full of five
- 10:38Speaker 1: stars and four stars. I think I said this in
- 10:41Speaker 1: the podcast that Iowa State since seventeen has had three
- 10:45Speaker 1: recruits that have been four stars, and that time Oklahoma
- 10:50Speaker 1: has had eighty four five and four star athletes come
- 10:53Speaker 1: through the program. So there's only so I mean, I
- 10:56Speaker 1: love the players and they're fantastic, and Breece Hall should
- 10:59Speaker 1: be mentioned for Heisman, but I'm sorry, but there's just
- 11:02Speaker 1: a huge gap and talent. All right, So you mentioned Heisman,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and I do want to get to Heisman. Uh. But
- 11:08Speaker 1: before we do that, in in order of operations, here,
- 11:13Speaker 1: here's how I want to lay out what we're going
- 11:15Speaker 1: to do over the next fifteen minutes. I want you
- 11:18Speaker 1: to give me the best future value right now for
- 11:25Speaker 1: making the college football playoff. Number one, I have five
- 11:29Speaker 1: questions you will need to answer them. Best future value
- 11:33Speaker 1: for making the college football playoff right now Oklahoma. So,
- 11:40Speaker 1: Oklahoma has the path of least resistance. If you look
- 11:43Speaker 1: at some of these other teams. Clemson and Georgia play
- 11:45Speaker 1: each other at the beginning of the season, one of
- 11:47Speaker 1: them has to lose, uh, and that means that they
- 11:49Speaker 1: have no room for air and the rest of their schedule.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Remember what I said, the college while playoff does not
- 11:54Speaker 1: like two lost teams, and they've proved it for it
- 11:56Speaker 1: doesn't matter if you in your conference. So with Clemson
- 11:59Speaker 1: and Georgia, one of those is automatically going to have
- 12:01Speaker 1: a big mark, big strike against them. Alabama breaking in
- 12:04Speaker 1: a new quarterback, new offensive positions. This team that we
- 12:08Speaker 1: saw last year might have been the best in college
- 12:10Speaker 1: football history. A ten game SEC schedule just flew through
- 12:14Speaker 1: it like there was no tomorrow. But they're breaking in
- 12:17Speaker 1: a new quarterback. Ohio State is also breaking in a
- 12:19Speaker 1: new quarterback. But I would say that their schedule isn't
- 12:22Speaker 1: it's tough. But Oklahoma best wide receiver unit in the nation,
- 12:26Speaker 1: uh one of the top three offensive lines, top three
- 12:29Speaker 1: defense in the nation, and Spencer Rattler, who's leading the
- 12:32Speaker 1: odds for to win the Heisman. There's just not enough
- 12:35Speaker 1: defense on this schedule to stop them from getting to
- 12:38Speaker 1: the playoffs. And keep in mind like they can chuck
- 12:40Speaker 1: a game because of the way it's set up in
- 12:42Speaker 1: the in the Big Twelve, it's round robins, So you
- 12:45Speaker 1: can lose a game and you're fine. All you have
- 12:46Speaker 1: to finish is top two in the in the conference
- 12:49Speaker 1: and play for the conference championship and listen, Alex Grench.
- 12:52Speaker 1: We said this on our podcast on Action Never three
- 12:54Speaker 1: years ago, Alex Grench, after he gets a couple of
- 12:57Speaker 1: years under his belt. This defense that is in the
- 13:00Speaker 1: Rose Bowl with Baker Mayfield was just a bunch of
- 13:03Speaker 1: lawn chairs and statues standing out there in Pasadena. And
- 13:06Speaker 1: once Alex Crench comes in, they're gonna be loaded with
- 13:09Speaker 1: havoc and chaos. And last year they finished top twenty
- 13:12Speaker 1: and that's not going to stop. His Oklahoma defense is
- 13:14Speaker 1: for real alright. So, uh, Simon Hunter just joined us.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I do want to give him a chance to ask
- 13:22Speaker 1: any questions if he has any. Uh. Simon was delayed
- 13:27Speaker 1: for a dental appointment, and it is just very brave
- 13:29Speaker 1: of him generally to be able to get on the podcast,
- 13:33Speaker 1: uh and join us right now. Simon, Hello, Hello, chat Colin.
- 13:38Speaker 1: We're stucky by the way, the funk if I know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I just slapped him, like, where the funk are you?
- 13:45Speaker 1: Unbelievable man. I was looking forward to seeing him in Colin. Now, Well,
- 13:48Speaker 1: at least we have the better one, right, the smarter one,
- 13:50Speaker 1: I should say, we definitely got. We got the more
- 13:52Speaker 1: eloquent one for sure. Um, well, now I've listened to
- 13:55Speaker 1: the show man, I love it. You guys are I
- 13:57Speaker 1: just love um? It's fun here and what all what
- 14:00Speaker 1: different pros think and view and it's awesome when you
- 14:03Speaker 1: line up with other people I trust. And I'm just like, okay,
- 14:07Speaker 1: So not that I'm like low nup, but I am
- 14:08Speaker 1: kind of I just got the itch, you know what
- 14:10Speaker 1: it is. It's football season. So I definitely enjoyed your
- 14:13Speaker 1: guys new show. And uh, I know man Mitchell's love
- 14:17Speaker 1: and what do you guys? Top ten now on the
- 14:19Speaker 1: rating board. Wait wait till we tell the world about
- 14:22Speaker 1: what we think about Western Kentucky. Once we do, I care,
- 14:25Speaker 1: we'll be top three in the national podcast. I love
- 14:27Speaker 1: Simon is such a professional. He comes on a mouthful
- 14:30Speaker 1: and novacaine and just plugs the new podcast and shines
- 14:34Speaker 1: on Matt Mitchell and now a word from our friends
- 14:37Speaker 1: at Fandel. Baseball returns to its roots on August twelfth,

- 16:14Speaker 1: My first question long as odds to make the colful
- 16:16Speaker 1: playoff the value you like? You like Oklahoma, give me
- 16:21Speaker 1: the season wind total over that you love the most
- 16:28Speaker 1: right now? Any conference group of five power five doesn't matter.
- 16:33Speaker 1: U c l A over seven. I compared this in
- 16:35Speaker 1: the pack Tol podcast to like a buffet. I keep
- 16:38Speaker 1: going back to the buffet and I want to eat this,
- 16:40Speaker 1: and I want to eat that, and I want to
- 16:41Speaker 1: eat this, and I wanna eat that. And those two
- 16:42Speaker 1: teams are Utah and u c l A. And I'll
- 16:45Speaker 1: stick with U c l A on the wind total
- 16:46Speaker 1: because Utah, I think is gonna win the packs fell
- 16:48Speaker 1: South they host U c l A. But year four
- 16:50Speaker 1: for chip Kelly, we have the highest retention. Now, and
- 16:54Speaker 1: I think about this. U c l A always recruits
- 16:56Speaker 1: at extremely high level with chip Kelly, and so does
- 16:59Speaker 1: Texas AY and M. But Texas A and M has
- 17:01Speaker 1: like thirty retention rate of all the recruits that they
- 17:04Speaker 1: brought in u c l. A has retained se They've
- 17:07Speaker 1: completely taken advantage of this super senior rule. Their defense
- 17:10Speaker 1: returns everybody, which is kind of a good thing and
- 17:12Speaker 1: a bad thing. They couldn't stop the rush, so hopefully
- 17:15Speaker 1: that improves a little bit. But Dorian Thompson Robinson can
- 17:18Speaker 1: score on any play on any yard marker. And yes,
- 17:22Speaker 1: I know about the turnovers, and I know that he
- 17:24Speaker 1: can be volatile at times. But what people aren't paying
- 17:27Speaker 1: attention to this year is they went out, Kelly went
- 17:30Speaker 1: out and got San Jose States passing game coordinator and
- 17:34Speaker 1: he said, passing game coordinator from San Jose State. Yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 1: they turned that program around. Remember San Jose State was
- 17:39Speaker 1: like undefeated and Nick Starkle was dropping bombs on everybody
- 17:42Speaker 1: late at night and people were like, who the hell
- 17:44Speaker 1: is San Jose State? Well, the passing game coordinator is
- 17:48Speaker 1: now the quarterbacks coach for U c l A, Ryan Gunderson,
- 17:51Speaker 1: former Royals Award nominee. And if he can trim down
- 17:56Speaker 1: just some of the mistakes and the inconsistencies the DTR has,
- 17:59Speaker 1: you see a A is a major player in this
- 18:02Speaker 1: Uh there, I think absolutely they are contender in the
- 18:04Speaker 1: South and I'll take over seven any day. U c
- 18:07Speaker 1: l A comes up so infrequently when we talked about
- 18:10Speaker 1: college football these days, the fact that a team from
- 18:13Speaker 1: the Pac twelve would be a contender. Do you think
- 18:17Speaker 1: if they Trent, if they put dtr in a better
- 18:20Speaker 1: position to take care of the ball, this is a
- 18:24Speaker 1: team they can contend in the Pact twelve and potentially
- 18:27Speaker 1: contend for a college football play off. I mentioned it
- 18:30Speaker 1: on our Pact twelve podcast, should be out this week
- 18:32Speaker 1: on on Big Bets on Campus, and I think Stuck
- 18:35Speaker 1: shot it down immediately, like national contention for a Pac
- 18:38Speaker 1: twelve team, No way. There's a lot of talent, especially
- 18:41Speaker 1: in this Pact twelve South, and a lot of people
- 18:43Speaker 1: want to point to USC, but I don't think the
- 18:44Speaker 1: air raid could they have their problems? Uh Utah and
- 18:47Speaker 1: u c l are heavily, heavily talented, lots of lots
- 18:51Speaker 1: of defense from the Utah perspective. Arizona State to the
- 18:54Speaker 1: problem with Arizona State is just this cloud, these recruiting
- 18:56Speaker 1: violation cloud that's that's hanging over them right now. And
- 19:00Speaker 1: the question comes out every year can they be in
- 19:02Speaker 1: the national title picture? I think Oregan takes a step back. Uh,
- 19:06Speaker 1: you know that to blow the podcast that we I'm
- 19:08Speaker 1: under Oregan at nine wins too many changes. I don't
- 19:12Speaker 1: like the defensive coordinator move Anthony Brown is they're gonna
- 19:15Speaker 1: be their quarterback. They're gonna get walled Wahio State and
- 19:17Speaker 1: Week two. So your best chance of being nationally relevant
- 19:20Speaker 1: is going to come out of the South, and to me,
- 19:22Speaker 1: that's Utah and U c l A. Al Right, next question,
- 19:28Speaker 1: your favorite I have a feeling you know the answer
- 19:31Speaker 1: to this. Your favorite under for all a hundred and
- 19:36Speaker 1: twenties stunting college football teams? Favorite under is The first
- 19:44Speaker 1: bet I put in this season was back in Mark.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I think during March Madness. These numbers started coming out
- 19:50Speaker 1: and it didn't matter if it was the East Coast
- 19:51Speaker 1: or West Coast. I was hitting this as many places
- 19:53Speaker 1: I could until I got shut down by one book.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And that's Notre Dame under nine. I had the state,
- 20:00Speaker 1: I had the team run. You thought I was gonna
- 20:02Speaker 1: go Indiana, and listen, Indiana had a kind of a
- 20:06Speaker 1: rabbit's foot up their ass last year and maybe that'll stay.
- 20:09Speaker 1: There are some redeeming qualities that they have, but Notre
- 20:11Speaker 1: Dame on the other hand, is going through everything you
- 20:15Speaker 1: want to look for when it comes to an under
- 20:17Speaker 1: Their defensive coordinator who is just can work magic, Clark Lee.
- 20:23Speaker 1: He is now the head coach at Vanderbilt. So they
- 20:26Speaker 1: now have a new defensive coordinator, Marcus Freeman, and Marcus
- 20:29Speaker 1: Freeman is a great recruiter, but that doesn't help now.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And he's going to change the scheme to a three
- 20:33Speaker 1: three five over a four to five. So you have
- 20:36Speaker 1: a ton of production that's been lost on both sides
- 20:39Speaker 1: of the ball. Ian book is not there anymore. Jack
- 20:41Speaker 1: Cohen from Wisconsin is now the quarterback, but he's more
- 20:43Speaker 1: of like a game manager. It's not really an explosive
- 20:46Speaker 1: quarterback whatsoever. They don't have any explosiveness or experience on
- 20:50Speaker 1: the outside. Uh. Their main passing plays are gonna be
- 20:53Speaker 1: to a tight end dump over the middle. Uh. They
- 20:56Speaker 1: lose some of their great offensive linemen and if you
- 20:59Speaker 1: look at their offensive or last year brand new Tommy Rees,
- 21:02Speaker 1: uh upped their rushing rate, like they jumped up to
- 21:05Speaker 1: one of the highest rush teams on the nation, like
- 21:08Speaker 1: Army level. Like, so they're not gonna pass the ball
- 21:11Speaker 1: that much. They don't have any explosiveness on the outside.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Jack Cohen, Well, I've seen enough out of him from
- 21:15Speaker 1: Wisconsin to know that this is not a ten win team.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Defense is undergoing a schematic change and they lost some
- 21:20Speaker 1: of their best tacklers. So Notre Dame under nine with
- 21:23Speaker 1: that schedule, I'll take it all day. Well, I'll tell
- 21:25Speaker 1: you what they do have Chad plugging away here. The
- 21:28Speaker 1: volume has their own thing called Inside the Garage. It's
- 21:33Speaker 1: a podcast of the Neitre Dame guys. I actually check
- 21:35Speaker 1: it out. You're breaking my heart because I wanted to
- 21:36Speaker 1: bet their over because I like the dudes on the show.
- 21:39Speaker 1: That's heartbreaking. But there's no friendship and gambling. Like I said,
- 21:42Speaker 1: I bet against my own favorite team. So I give constant.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I gotta bet that under. I'm gonna take that under South.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Are you all be coming on today to plug? Is
- 21:51Speaker 1: that that's like, that's your role in the podcast today.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I'm selling out so hard right now, Chad. It's unbelieab
- 21:56Speaker 1: but maybe it's the novocain. You might be right. Give
- 21:59Speaker 1: me a little posest. Let me leave you this. Simon
- 22:01Speaker 1: so Clarkeley was their defensive coordinator and he's from the
- 22:04Speaker 1: School of mike Elco. Mike Elco, who's at Texas A
- 22:07Speaker 1: and m before Mike Elco and Clarkley we're at Notre Dame.
- 22:10Speaker 1: That's when they have their four and eight season, and
- 22:12Speaker 1: it was just an absolute I mean, they just fell
- 22:14Speaker 1: off a cliff and it's because of the defense. And
- 22:16Speaker 1: now here they are without either Mike Elko or clark Lee. Alright,
- 22:20Speaker 1: two more questions for you. The next question. Last question
- 22:24Speaker 1: will be about the Himan. The next question, give me
- 22:27Speaker 1: the four teams that will be in the College Football Playoff.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Georgia and Oklahoma in the national
- 22:35Speaker 1: championship games, so that leads to other spots. One is
- 22:37Speaker 1: gonna be Ohio State. There's just not a lot of
- 22:39Speaker 1: resistance in that conference. If you look at Penn State's schedule,
- 22:42Speaker 1: it's brutal. I mean, even if they were to beat
- 22:44Speaker 1: Ohio State, there's still two losses on that schedule. Uh So,
- 22:48Speaker 1: Ohio State shouldn't have any problems and maybe challenged by
- 22:51Speaker 1: Wisconsin in the in the Big Ten Championship. But Ohio State,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna take is the third team and then the
- 22:56Speaker 1: fourth team. Outside of that, you're really looking at an
- 22:59Speaker 1: Alabama team that should possibly lose the Georgian SC Championship
- 23:02Speaker 1: as I'm predicting, or a Clemson team that may lose
- 23:05Speaker 1: to Georgia in the very beginning. So the fourth to
- 23:07Speaker 1: me is an extreme wild card. The one thing I
- 23:09Speaker 1: do know, it's not gonna be Cincinnati, which is gonna
- 23:11Speaker 1: be really upsetting to me after they beat Notre Dame
- 23:14Speaker 1: and have the schedule to be there. So I'm just
- 23:16Speaker 1: gonna go with Alabama as an at large into the spot. Uh.
- 23:20Speaker 1: The committee has proven before they like brand names, they
- 23:23Speaker 1: like TV ratings and and you. They're gonna take that
- 23:26Speaker 1: over a one loss pack twelve champion. They're gonna take
- 23:28Speaker 1: Alabama as a one loss team any day. So that
- 23:31Speaker 1: that would be my that would be my college ball.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I did not expect you to say Georgia and Oklahoma
- 23:36Speaker 1: in the finals. That would be nice for Georgia. They've
- 23:39Speaker 1: had some hard luck and it was it's starting to
- 23:42Speaker 1: feel like they will forever be a great team that
- 23:47Speaker 1: gets forgotten because they play in the same era as Alabama.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So they need a year like what you're talking about
- 23:53Speaker 1: to crack through and have that legacy memorable status. The big,
- 23:58Speaker 1: the big difference for Georgia everybody needs to realize is
- 24:01Speaker 1: that Todd Monkan is their offensive coordinator now and they
- 24:04Speaker 1: aren't afraid to pass on first down with J. T. Daniels.
- 24:08Speaker 1: That's the problem with George in the past. They were
- 24:09Speaker 1: living college football fifteen years ago when it was all
- 24:12Speaker 1: about rushed on first down, second down, third Now we're
- 24:14Speaker 1: gonna pound the rock. That doesn't work in college football anymore.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Last question, I'm going to bet who's going to win
- 24:21Speaker 1: the Heisman. You mentioned Spencer Rattler, you mentioned Brock Purty. Uh,
- 24:27Speaker 1: give me your best future value to win the Heisman
- 24:31Speaker 1: Trophy and it's uh, it's gonna be tough to be
- 24:34Speaker 1: Spencer Rattler. And the reason why I say that is
- 24:37Speaker 1: because if you look at the history of the Heisman
- 24:38Speaker 1: Trophy and the voters, ou players continue to win this.
- 24:42Speaker 1: And remember, after you win up Heisman, you get a vote,
- 24:44Speaker 1: so that the base of voters continue to expand as
- 24:49Speaker 1: as oh you voters. So it's hard to go past
- 24:52Speaker 1: Spencer Rattler and what he has. But if I had
- 24:54Speaker 1: to throw uh somebody out there, Casey Thompson at Texas,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I believe what Steve Sarkesian's do and out down to
- 25:00Speaker 1: Texas is going to pay off. It's going to be huge.
- 25:02Speaker 1: He's setting a new culture completely different than what Tom Herman.
- 25:06Speaker 1: But for Casey Thompson to win that for Texas, they've
- 25:08Speaker 1: got to win the Big Twelve, and I don't think
- 25:09Speaker 1: that's possible. So I will point to a team that
- 25:12Speaker 1: I think can absolutely win uh their conference championship, and
- 25:15Speaker 1: that's North Carolina and Sam How. What Sam How has
- 25:17Speaker 1: been able to do since the day that he was
- 25:19Speaker 1: a freshman has shown that he's NFL ready. He has
- 25:22Speaker 1: an NFL arm uh and we're gonna find out this
- 25:24Speaker 1: year because he loses a couple of explosive weapons that
- 25:26Speaker 1: are now in the NFL. But I don't think it's
- 25:28Speaker 1: gonna matter. Mac Brown has recruited just fine. They're gonna
- 25:31Speaker 1: put up serious numbers. They're not gonna face Clemson until
- 25:34Speaker 1: the last game of the year, right before the Heisman.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Voters have to get that ballance submitted. Uh if I
- 25:40Speaker 1: had to take a shot outside of Spencer Rattler to
- 25:42Speaker 1: be Sam How And that's why I bet for number
- 25:44Speaker 1: one pick. I love doing that bet too. Like future
- 25:46Speaker 1: bets using the number one pick. I bet him as well.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I just I love like I watched his tape. I
- 25:50Speaker 1: love that kids say to me is the highest ceiling
- 25:53Speaker 1: right now for any of these kids coming out next
- 25:54Speaker 1: year in the draft. A little added bonus for the draft,
- 25:57Speaker 1: just for people to get primed. Colin Wilson, you were
- 26:01Speaker 1: saying Oklahoma will be the longest, the best future value
- 26:05Speaker 1: to make the college football Playoff. You like Georgia and Oklahoma,
- 26:10Speaker 1: Alabama and Ohio State in the College Football Player. If
- 26:13Speaker 1: you like Georgian Oklahoma playing the national title game. You
- 26:16Speaker 1: think Spencer Rattler is most likely to win the Heisman,
- 26:19Speaker 1: but Sam Howell is a good long shot. You love
- 26:21Speaker 1: the U c l A Over, you hate, you love
- 26:24Speaker 1: the Notre Dame under. Everybody who needs more in depth
- 26:28Speaker 1: conversation about everything related to college football. The best college
