- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 67 already! I can't believe it. Lucas: I know — and today we're going shopping. Clothes shopping. Luna: Ohh, I love shopping. But in German? That's new. What do I need to say? Lucas: First, imagine you see a shirt you like, but it's only in blue. You want it in red. So you ask: Haben Sie das in Rot? Luna: Haben Sie das in Rot? Lucas: Exactly. Do you have this in red? 'Das' means 'this' — the item. 'In Rot' — in red. Luna: Haben Sie das in Rot. That's useful. What if I try it on and it fits? Lucas: Then you say: Das passt mir. It fits me. 'Passt' is from 'passen' — to fit. 'Mir' — to me. Luna: Das passt mir. So if it's too small, I say 'Das passt mir nicht'? Lucas: Exactly. You're catching on. Now, before you try it on, you need to ask: Kann ich das anprobieren? — Can I try this on? Luna: Kann ich das anprobieren? That's a mouthful. Anprobieren — to try on. Lucas: Exactly. 'Anprobieren' is the magic word. And then the salesperson might say 'Ja, die Umkleidekabine ist da drüben.' So you need to know: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Luna: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Where is the fitting room? Lucas: Perfect. And once you're in there, you might want a mirror. So you ask: Gibt es einen Spiegel? Luna: Gibt es einen Spiegel? Is there a mirror? Lucas: Yes. 'Spiegel' is mirror. Let's run through them all. Repeat after me: Haben Sie das in Rot? Luna: Haben Sie das in Rot? Lucas: Das passt mir. Luna: Das passt mir. Lucas: Kann ich das anprobieren? Luna: Kann ich das anprobieren? Lucas: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Luna: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Lucas: Gibt es einen Spiegel? Luna: Gibt es einen Spiegel? Lucas: Great. Now imagine this: You're in a store in Berlin. You see a nice jacket. You ask the salesperson: 'Haben Sie das in Blau?' She says 'Ja, hier.' You try it on... Luna: Das passt mir! Oh, I love that it fits. And then I ask: 'Gibt es einen Spiegel?' I look in the mirror and I'm like, 'Ja, das ist perfekt!' Lucas: Exactly. And if you need to return it later, you might need a receipt — but that's for another day. For now, these five phrases will get you through a clothes shop. Luna: I can already imagine using them. 'Kann ich das anprobieren?' — that's so satisfying to say. Lucas: It is. And you know, if you find these episodes useful for real-life situations, there's a way to support the show and keep it ad-free. It's buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's 'buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo'. Luna: Yeah, I think it's really helpful to have these phrases ready. And supporting helps us keep doing this. Lucas: Now, let's practice a mini dialogue. I'll be the salesperson. You're the customer. You see a shirt in blue, but you want it in red. Go ahead. Luna: Haben Sie das in Rot? Lucas: Ja, hier bitte. Möchten Sie es anprobieren? Luna: Ja, kann ich das anprobieren? Lucas: Natürlich. Die Umkleidekabine ist dort. Luna: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Lucas: Dort drüben, links. Luna: Danke. Das passt mir! Gibt es einen Spiegel? Lucas: Ja, hier ist ein Spiegel. Luna: Perfekt! I'd buy it. Lucas: See, you did it. And you used every phrase. I'm proud of you. Luna: Thanks. Now I feel ready for a shopping trip in Germany. Maybe I'll buy a dirndl. Lucas: That would be fun. But you'd ask: 'Haben Sie das in Grün?' Luna: Haben Sie das in Grün? Lucas: Let's review one more time. Repeat: Haben Sie das in Rot? Luna: Haben Sie das in Rot? Lucas: Das passt mir. Luna: Das passt mir. Lucas: Kann ich das anprobieren? Luna: Kann ich das anprobieren? Lucas: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Luna: Wo ist die Umkleidekabine? Lucas: Gibt es einen Spiegel? Luna: Gibt es einen Spiegel? Lucas: That's it for today. Practice these, and next time you're clothes shopping, you'll be ready. Luna: I'm going to practice with my wardrobe at home. Just point at things and say 'Haben Sie das in Rot?' Lucas: That might confuse your family. But it'll help you remember. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Bis bald!
