• 0:26
  SPEAKER_01: What are we doing?
• 0:30
  SPEAKER_01: Give me that.
• 0:31
  SPEAKER_01: Touchdown.
• 0:33
SPEAKER_02: Great opportunity in front of us.
• 0:35
  SPEAKER_02: Road game, AFC opponent.
• 0:37
SPEAKER_02: Um, looking forward to the challenge.
• 0:39
SPEAKER_02: Uh obviously they're coming off a bye just like us.
• 0:41
SPEAKER_02: They're coming off a big win um a couple weeks ago.
• 0:44
SPEAKER_02: So uh our focus is is to play our best on the road and and and find a way to get a victory.
• 0:48
  SPEAKER_02: That's that's uh our challenge.
• 0:50
SPEAKER_02: We're trying to learn from some of the things we we spent time with over the bye on offense, defense, and special teams and apply some of those learnings uh starting this week.
• 0:59
SPEAKER_02: But with that, I'll take any questions.
• 1:02
SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Scarlet, Orange, and Brown Podcast, the show that brings you the best of Ohio football every single week.
• 1:10
SPEAKER_00: From the Ohio State Buckeyes to the Cincinnati Bengals to the Cleveland Browns, we've got every inch of the Buckeye State covered.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_00: Insight, passion, and plenty of bold opinions.
• 1:21
SPEAKER_00: Because here it's all football, all Ohio, all the time.
• 1:25
SPEAKER_00: Here's your host coming to you live from the Dublin bubble, Chris Husman and Ken Carpenter.
• 1:34
SPEAKER_04: Hello, and welcome to the SOB Scarlet Orange and Brown Podcast.
• 1:39
  SPEAKER_04: I'm Ken Carpenter.
• 1:41
  SPEAKER_04: And I'm Trish Husman.
• 1:43
SPEAKER_04: And this week we have the Buckeyes settling in at 8-0, ranked number one after the recent college football playoff in a win over Penn State University with a 38-14 victory.
• 1:57
SPEAKER_04: The Bengals sitting third in the AFC North after a tough, heartbreaking loss to the Chicago Bears.
• 2:05
SPEAKER_04: They get a bye this week.
• 2:07
SPEAKER_04: Cleveland Browns are on a bye.
• 2:09
SPEAKER_04: Sitting at 2-6, last in the AFC North, and they travel to the lowly New York Jets.
• 2:19
SPEAKER_04: Huey, what uh what do you have to say after week?
• 2:25
SPEAKER_04: I want to say week nine.
• 2:27
SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, it's just one of those weeks, Kenny, that you're happy that you have the Buckeyes as one of your teams, because uh my Bengals, the last two weeks have just totally ripped my heart out.
• 2:41
  SPEAKER_03: How about this?
• 2:42
SPEAKER_03: Not only am I, you know, uh a Bengals fan and you know, love the jackets, and you know, I watch the Browns.
• 2:49
SPEAKER_03: Uh they're not my favorite, but you know, they're a Ohio team, and I'm gonna root for them, um, except when they're playing Cincinnati.
• 2:56
SPEAKER_03: Um, but I'm also a Blue Jacket fan.
• 2:59
SPEAKER_03: So I had on Sunday to watch the Bengals get an epic meltdown and then flip it over to the Blue Jackets who had the lead with oh, seconds left, and uh give up two goals within a minute and get beat too.
• 3:21
SPEAKER_03: So that was not a good day for me.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_03: It was not for my anxiety, not for my depression, anything of that nature.
• 3:29
SPEAKER_03: It was not a good day.
• 3:31
SPEAKER_04: Well, the the good thing is we have the Ohio State Buckeyes right now, and they pretty much dominated Penn State like everybody thought they would.
• 3:40
SPEAKER_04: And uh the college football playoff rankings came out for the first time this week.
• 3:46
SPEAKER_04: And Ohio State's number one.
• 3:49
SPEAKER_04: Some of the uh ESBN experts are saying that uh you know, maybe it should have been Texas AM based off of uh strength of schedule and how things went.
• 4:02
SPEAKER_04: And what are your thoughts?
• 4:04
SPEAKER_04: Should Ohio State, I mean they they passed the look test, but maybe their schedule isn't hasn't been quite tough enough.
• 4:10
  SPEAKER_03: Doesn't matter.
• 4:11
SPEAKER_03: Doesn't matter, you know, and I I hear your point, Kenny.
• 4:15
  SPEAKER_03: I really do.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_03: And um, but it doesn't matter.
• 4:18
SPEAKER_03: They're the defending national champs, and until they get beat, there's they should be number one.
• 4:26
SPEAKER_03: And that that's it, period.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, there's the style points, and you know, stuff, I mean uh Ryan Day is not gonna run up the score, you know, and score try you know 70 points on these guys, you know, even Grambling came in here and it was like, you know, I mean, it's just not the type of person he's gonna he's gonna be.
• 4:49
SPEAKER_03: So, you know, if you if you in my mind, if you equate being number one to you know blow out losses, let's try to score as many points as we can, okay.
• 5:00
SPEAKER_03: Then let's put Texas Tech, whoever up there.
• 5:03
  SPEAKER_03: Let's go in third.
• 5:04
SPEAKER_03: It's just like Ryan Day said when that um you know CFP ranking came out number one, he's like, so what?
• 5:12
  SPEAKER_03: It doesn't matter.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_03: You know, just making it into the playoffs is what matters.
• 5:17
SPEAKER_03: And look what we did last year.
• 5:19
SPEAKER_03: I mean, we obviously had the toughest row to hoe in the college football playoffs last year with the teams that we beat.
• 5:28
SPEAKER_03: I mean, Tennessee was no joke.
• 5:30
SPEAKER_03: You know, they came in here and we destroyed them at the shoot.
• 5:34
SPEAKER_03: You know, then you go out and you play Oregon, uh, you got Texas again, then you got Notre Dame.
• 5:39
SPEAKER_03: I mean, that was no joke.
• 5:40
SPEAKER_03: I mean, nobody can say that we didn't play anybody.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_03: And then you turn it over to this year, and what do we do?
• 5:46
SPEAKER_03: Our first game of the year is against Texas again.
• 5:49
SPEAKER_03: And um, hey, it's not like we're trying to duck and dive, you know, it's not our fault that Penn State's not any good.
• 5:56
SPEAKER_03: It's not our fault that Arch Manning's finding himself, you know.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_03: So uh we're beating the teams we should beat, and we're undefeated.
• 6:05
SPEAKER_04: Well, you look at um, you know, I think Indiana's deserving of the number two ranking.
• 6:10
SPEAKER_04: Uh you know, they they take 12 teams, and right now that 12th team is Oklahoma.
• 6:19
SPEAKER_04: And teams on the outside looking in are Utah, Virginia, Louisville, Vandy, and I was still kind of surprised Georgia Tech at 8-1.
• 6:30
SPEAKER_04: And they're yeah, they're the ACC team, but I I really like Georgia Tech, and you know, there's you know, Alabama, you know, they they had a couple games where they they struggled, but now they seem to be going right.
• 6:45
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 6:45
SPEAKER_04: Do you think the playoff committee got it right with the the way they seeded it one through twelve?
• 6:51
SPEAKER_03: Well, uh, you know, for right now, yeah.
• 6:53
SPEAKER_03: And I mean the ACC, that's gonna be interesting.
• 6:58
  SPEAKER_03: Because you got Duke.
• 6:59
SPEAKER_03: Uh Pitt still has to play.
• 7:01
  SPEAKER_03: What, Miami?
• 7:04
SPEAKER_03: Um they they have three really, really tough games coming up.
• 7:09
SPEAKER_03: Um, Duke, um, Miami, Georgia Tech, you know, all those teams, and then they you know, and they still got the championship they got to play for.
• 7:17
SPEAKER_03: So that's gonna be, you know, the playoffs, you know, I hate to say it, but a lot of it's gonna go through the ACC with those teams.
• 7:25
  SPEAKER_03: I guess it's gonna be a team.
• 7:26
  SPEAKER_03: Louisville's no joke.
• 7:28
SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, you're right.
• 7:29
SPEAKER_03: You call it ACC is you know, they're tough this year.
• 7:33
SPEAKER_04: You know, it's kind of surprising that the the Big Ten only has two teams going in right now, and uh, you know, of course the SEC, you know, they beat themselves off, but they you know, they get uh one, two, uh three, four uh five, six teams in the top twelve.
• 7:56
SPEAKER_04: So you know, they're they're in a situation where they they get a lot of respect for what they do and you know the teams they play, but you know, it I say by the end it's gonna be interesting to see what that final twelve will be.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_03: Well, and that's a good point too, Kenny, is um they have all these teams are sitting out there with two losses.
• 8:19
SPEAKER_03: I mean, that third loss is just a dagger.
• 8:24
SPEAKER_03: I mean, that guarantees you not to be in that 12-team race.
• 8:28
SPEAKER_03: So, you know, a lot of these teams are just trying to stab off that 13th or that third loss.
• 8:36
SPEAKER_03: And, you know, with this uh uh the the conference championships looming, it's gonna be interesting.
• 8:44
SPEAKER_03: Somebody's gonna sneak in there.
• 8:46
SPEAKER_03: You know, I even heard James Madison's name pop up um, you know, yesterday.
• 8:52
SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I mean somebody's gonna sneak in there.
• 8:55
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 8:55
SPEAKER_04: And Notre Dame, as usual, they get the uh the benefit of not being in a conference, and you know, they're sitting there at I believe at uh number 10.
• 9:04
SPEAKER_04: But you know, I I'm a big believer that they should be in a conference.
• 9:10
SPEAKER_04: But yeah, what do I know?
• 9:11
SPEAKER_04: You know, it's uh they they start off with two losses and now they're they're sitting there and they're good they're gonna be a team that you know probably has a chance to uh really do some damage if they're sitting in that 10, 11, 12 spot and going up against you know one of the top two or three teams, you know, that's definitely a game that you probably don't want to play if you're a top-ranked team, that's for sure.
• 9:38
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 100%.
• 9:39
SPEAKER_03: And you know, I think Notre Dame is, you know, for all those years, they signed that big contract with NBC, and NBC carried them for all those years, and that took the place of the conference.
• 9:49
SPEAKER_03: That money that they were making on that deal.
• 9:52
  SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I don't know, I don't know.
• 9:54
SPEAKER_03: I I I have mixed feelings with Notre Dame, but I think they have a good um formula for trying to make the playoffs all the time.
• 10:03
SPEAKER_03: Um he was like, hey, if I had to do all over again, I'd play, you know, a lot of no-name teams out there and just go undefeated and get into the playoff system and you know, and then start start from there.
• 10:20
  SPEAKER_03: But you know, I I don't know.
• 10:22
SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm not sure, you know, this whole playoff system, you know, it's kind of remains to be seen.
• 10:27
SPEAKER_03: Let's give it the five-year test and see how it goes.
• 10:30
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, definitely.
• 10:31
SPEAKER_04: Well, you know, let's move on to the Buckeyes here.
• 10:34
SPEAKER_04: They they took care of business with uh Penn State.
• 10:38
SPEAKER_04: Uh they the defense finally gave up a uh rushing touchdown, actually two of them.
• 10:45
SPEAKER_04: And you know, I I really think that the score you know, you could take one of the scores off the board there because the uh the uh fumble that was caused that they said uh you know, I thought his progress was stopped, but uh they didn't see it that way, they didn't review it that way.
• 11:05
SPEAKER_04: So, you know, they get the ball in a you know plus situation.
• 11:10
SPEAKER_04: But overall, I mean Julian Saiyan, I think, was 80% completion rate and going into the game and he improved, which it sounds crazy.
• 11:21
SPEAKER_04: And probably the one play that jumps out to me the most is they saw something in at halftime, they put a play in at halftime, and it's going all over social media now where you hear Ryan Day scream guiding, you know, five yards into the play, and it works.
• 11:38
SPEAKER_04: So, you know, I Julian Sayan is Heisman looks now, and you know, I think what talks says a lot about the whole Ohio State team is Ohio State promoted Julian Sayan, Jeremiah Smith for Heisman, and both of them posted the other person's picture for Heisman.
• 11:59
SPEAKER_04: So that tells me everything you need to know about Ohio State football.
• 12:03
  SPEAKER_03: Totally agree, Kenny.
• 12:05
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, just unselfish play.
• 12:09
SPEAKER_03: Um guys that uh visit children's hospital and Ohio State uh pediatric centers regularly, and um, you know, they're having their own private um prayer groups on campus and whatnot.
• 12:24
SPEAKER_03: And I'm just thoroughly impressed with this whole entire program.
• 12:28
SPEAKER_03: It makes it even better to be the number one football team in the nation uh when that happens.
• 12:34
SPEAKER_03: But off the field, I'm more impressed with these guys than I am on.
• 12:38
  SPEAKER_03: And I mean, that's saying something.
• 12:39
SPEAKER_03: I mean, these are high character individuals um that we're dealing with out there.
• 12:45
SPEAKER_03: And, you know, um as you can tell here in it's it's noon in Columbus, Ohio, you know, the the sirens are going off.
• 12:53
SPEAKER_03: But um, you know, it you're right.
• 12:55
SPEAKER_03: It's the number one scoring defense in the country.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_03: Um, they've given up 69 points uh per game.
• 13:01
SPEAKER_03: Um 16 points are under allowed um in games.
• 13:07
SPEAKER_03: Uh the one yard on P they gave up one yard in the second half on Penn State's first 17 plays.
• 13:15
SPEAKER_03: Um, I mean, you know, Styles and Reese are uh, you know, debatably the best linebacking duo in the nation.
• 13:24
SPEAKER_03: I mean, these guys, you talk about covering sidelines and stopping run stoppers and you know, and just try to throw the ball on a sweep outside.
• 13:33
  SPEAKER_03: It's not gonna happen.
• 13:35
SPEAKER_03: And, you know, those guys are you know both on the list for the Dick Buckus uh linebacking award, you know, nominees uh out there.
• 13:44
SPEAKER_03: Julian Saiyan um now I believe is the odds-on favorite for the Heisman.
• 13:51
SPEAKER_03: Uh 20 for like you said, 20 for 23 last week, 316, four TDs, I think in a pass-through games, um, uh of the 50 passes he's attempted, he's only missed six.
• 14:04
  SPEAKER_03: It's like 44 for 50.
• 14:06
SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, Tate and Smith both uh over 100 yards.
• 14:11
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, Smith is, I think, uh Fred Bolitnikoff uh award uh finalist uh too as well.
• 14:19
SPEAKER_03: The uh offense is ranked 19th nationally.
• 14:24
SPEAKER_03: Um the run game in to me is my is the only weakness.
• 14:29
SPEAKER_03: Um and when I say weakness, I mean, you know, they're 74th in the nation.
• 14:35
SPEAKER_03: So I think we have to get it together there.
• 14:37
SPEAKER_03: I think it's only going to improve the passing game.
• 14:40
SPEAKER_03: Um I'm surprised that we have such a good passing game, and the running game is 74th because that usually opens up the run uh with them adding a nickel, you know, going to a nickel or a dime package defensively against us.
• 14:54
SPEAKER_03: Um but yeah, good things.
• 14:56
SPEAKER_03: We are the number one in the initial college football uh playoff ranking.
• 15:01
SPEAKER_03: Um we only have one ranked opponent left, and to your point about you know our schedule strength, and that that would be the team up north.
• 15:10
SPEAKER_03: Um, but at Purdue at one o'clock, uh UCLA at 7:30, Rutgers uh to be determined, and then you know, we're um at the team up north at noon.
• 15:21
SPEAKER_03: So um it's gonna be interesting to see um how we play those four uh four remaining games, and you know, one of the other things that I like, I just saw this, Kenny, you get a kick out of this, is yesterday was the two-year anniversary of the last time a Big Ten opponent was flagged for holding against Ohio State.
• 15:58
  SPEAKER_03: Two years.
• 15:59
  SPEAKER_04: How's that possible?
• 16:01
  SPEAKER_03: Two years, yeah.
• 16:06
  SPEAKER_04: I I can't understand it.
• 16:08
SPEAKER_04: You know, I can't understand it, but you know, credit Ohio State, you know, they just keep on playing, they don't talk about it much except you get a couple people posting it.
• 16:18
SPEAKER_04: But would you agree that it's a four-man Heisman race right now going into the you know last third of the season with uh Mendoza from Indiana, uh Simpson from the quarterback in Alabama, Julian Sane at Ohio State, and I think you gotta throw in Jeremiah Smith.
• 16:40
SPEAKER_04: The only thing that's gonna, I think, affect those two is a lot of people might split the vote on Jeremiah and Julian Sand.
• 16:47
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 100%.
• 16:49
SPEAKER_03: Um, I think a lot of me depends on uh if Alabama loses that third game.
• 16:56
SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm not sure if they've lost two.
• 16:58
SPEAKER_03: Have they lost two, Kenny?
• 17:00
SPEAKER_03: I think yeah, if they lose that third game, you know, in my mind, he's out of it.
• 17:06
  SPEAKER_03: Simpson.
• 17:07
SPEAKER_03: Um you know, Mendoza, hey, that's great.
• 17:11
SPEAKER_03: But uh, you know, we're talking the number one college football team in the nation, uh, and their quarterback, and he's doing so well, then in my mind, then he's the number one odds-on favorite.
• 17:21
SPEAKER_03: So, you know, I you know, you can look at the numbers.
• 17:25
SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, I think um when JJ McCarthy for Michigan, I mean, he was throwing up, you know, maybe maybe 220 yards a game, right?
• 17:37
SPEAKER_03: Uh, maybe a maybe one or two touchdowns a game.
• 17:41
SPEAKER_03: Um, it's not like he was like all over the you know field throwing up 400 and some yards and things like that when uh Michigan won the national championship.
• 17:52
SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I you know that's a good question, Kenny.
• 17:56
SPEAKER_03: I I to me saying right now would have to be the odds on favorite.
• 18:00
SPEAKER_04: You know, I I really think it's going to come down to if Indiana and Ohio State both win out, that Big Ten championship game is the the weekend before they announce who the the winner is.
• 18:13
SPEAKER_04: And um whoever outperforms the other one is probably gonna be the one that ends up winning the Heisman Trophy.
• 18:24
SPEAKER_04: Well, now let's move on.
• 18:26
SPEAKER_04: I uh didn't get to watch the Browns play this weekend, obviously because of bye, so I sat down and watched the Cincinnati Bengals, and if I would have just closed my eyes, I could have sworn the game sounded like I was watching the Browns game.
• 18:41
  unknown: Yeah.
• 18:44
SPEAKER_04: The Bears somehow pull off a 47-42 win over Flacco and the Cincinnati Bengals.
• 18:54
SPEAKER_04: I mean their offense is just lights out, but the clock just couldn't run fast enough.
• 19:02
SPEAKER_03: Kenny, I am uh okay, I I have been a Bengals fan since I can remember.
• 19:07
  SPEAKER_03: I I'm 57 now, and um I've been a Bengals fan since I I I could remember football.
• 19:16
SPEAKER_03: This is nothing new to me.
• 19:18
SPEAKER_03: All right, this is nothing new to any Cincinnati fan.
• 19:22
SPEAKER_03: Everybody in that stadium thought, oh my god, we just pulled this off, but we scored way too early because we left 50 53 seconds on the clock.
• 19:37
SPEAKER_03: And we all knew in our heart of hearts that we were gonna get beat.
• 19:42
SPEAKER_03: And it took uh Williams, what, three plays?
• 19:46
SPEAKER_03: Four, no, four that it took him five plays to go um oh what was it?
• 19:53
SPEAKER_03: I have it written down here.
• 19:54
SPEAKER_03: It took him five plays to go uh 58 yards, score a touchdown um after that.
• 20:03
SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I mean, we're kind of used to it, you know.
• 20:06
  SPEAKER_03: It's just um it's sad.
• 20:09
  SPEAKER_03: It really is.
• 20:10
SPEAKER_03: I I mean the missed opportunities, you can just get I can you can just go on and on and on and on and on.
• 20:16
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't have enough paper here uh to write down.
• 20:20
SPEAKER_03: I know we're on a text exchange with my brother and my uh nephew, they live in Cincinnati, and you know, we're just texting back and forth.
• 20:27
SPEAKER_03: Well, should be 21-7 now.
• 20:29
SPEAKER_03: Well, should be 24-7 now.
• 20:31
SPEAKER_03: And, you know, instead you look and you know, we're only up three or your or whatever it is.
• 20:38
SPEAKER_03: So, you know, to score the go-head touchdown uh with all that stuff after retrieving an onside kick and going down and score, and then just knowing in your heart that um it's not it's not gonna be enough.
• 20:52
SPEAKER_03: It was just uh is so painful to watch.
• 20:54
SPEAKER_03: I mean, the D uh has given up at least 27 points, Kenny, uh, in eight consecutive games.
• 21:02
SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's just uh it's it's just that's just that can't happen if you're uh an NFL football team.
• 21:11
  SPEAKER_03: That just cannot happen.
• 21:13
SPEAKER_03: I mean, the run defense is non-existent.
• 21:15
SPEAKER_03: The like you said, the offense is brilliant behind Flacco.
• 21:19
SPEAKER_03: I mean, he only threw for a career high.
• 21:21
SPEAKER_03: Now, keep in mind we're talking about Joe Flacco here.
• 21:24
SPEAKER_03: He's played in like a million games, right?
• 21:27
SPEAKER_03: And he threw for a career high, 470 yards with a sprained shoulder joint.
• 21:34
SPEAKER_03: Um, and we still couldn't get it done.
• 21:37
SPEAKER_03: Uh, the past three games, the you know, D has given up 117 points.
• 21:43
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, like you said, they're averaging giving up 27 uh over the uh last eight consecutive, but the past three 117 points, and they've given up almost 1,500 yards.
• 21:55
SPEAKER_03: And Kenny, if you do the math on that, that's almost 500 yards a game they're giving up.
• 22:01
SPEAKER_03: I mean, how many games can you win?
• 22:03
SPEAKER_03: Um, and not only that, they just traded their best linebacker to Dallas for a basically a bag of Cheetos.
• 22:11
SPEAKER_03: And, you know, for a seventh rounder.
• 22:14
SPEAKER_03: So they did zero at the trade deadline.
• 22:17
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, they got 110 missed tackles.
• 22:21
SPEAKER_03: Um before the game, it was 83.
• 22:26
  SPEAKER_03: 83.
• 22:28
SPEAKER_03: So they had 27 missed tackles that game.
• 22:32
SPEAKER_03: Battle, Jordan Battle, Geno Stone, uh, Carter, the young linebacker, and the one that leads the league is the Mike linebacker Knight out of South Carolina.
• 22:45
SPEAKER_03: So both linebackers are leading the league in missed tackles.
• 22:48
  SPEAKER_03: That's that's going to equate to a disaster.
• 22:52
SPEAKER_03: Um, not only that, I mean, you know, um the next closest team out there with missed tackles is 76, and that's the Washington Commanders.
• 23:03
  SPEAKER_03: It's not even close.
• 23:05
  SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's embarrassing.
• 23:06
SPEAKER_03: So, you know, with being at the Steelers, and then we got the Patriots and at the Ravens, at the Bills, we got the Ravens again.
• 23:15
SPEAKER_03: The only upside is, you know, we do go to Miami and play.
• 23:18
SPEAKER_03: We have the Cardinals at home, and we have Cleveland at home.
• 23:22
SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, if we can win three games uh the rest of the year, that would be a miracle, in my opinion.
• 23:30
SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, just it's it's pretty bleak right now.
• 23:34
SPEAKER_04: Well, what I don't understand is I can't think of his name off the top of my head right now, but the uh the number one draft pick.
• 23:42
  SPEAKER_03: Jamar Stewart.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he I don't think he has a sack yet, and he he didn't have any sack.
• 23:47
SPEAKER_04: I think he only had one sack in college.
• 23:50
SPEAKER_03: He has um he has less tackles than uh Jamar Chase.
• 23:57
  SPEAKER_04: Jamar Chase's offense.
• 23:59
  SPEAKER_03: Yes.
• 24:01
SPEAKER_03: So because of the interceptions that um uh uh Jake Browning threw, you know, Jake Browning threw like 74 straight interceptions, um Jamar Chase had to go on the defensive and make tackles.
• 24:16
SPEAKER_03: So he's actually got more tackles than our number one draft pick, Shamar Stewart.
• 24:22
  SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's just it's mind-blowing.
• 24:25
SPEAKER_04: And I you know, I watched the game and you know, I I understand that they're professional players.
• 24:32
SPEAKER_04: But uh the the question I had, I you know, I'm sitting there, I'm like, I saw Burrow, he's Joe's on the sidelines, he's got uh you know the earpiece in, and you know, he's listening to what's being called.
• 24:44
SPEAKER_04: But I just thought not that they needed it, but why wouldn't Flacco and Joe sit next to each other and you know bounce some ideas off of each other?
• 24:56
SPEAKER_04: But you know, Browning, I saw him there, but I I just don't understand it.
• 25:00
SPEAKER_04: And I've seen it with other NFL teams, the starting quarterback, if he's injured, he just kind of just meanders around.
• 25:08
SPEAKER_04: You know, I thought Joe would have more of an impact as uh even though he's injured.
• 25:15
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a great point.
• 25:16
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I see uh Jake Browning sit next to he would sit next to Joe all the time and you know console him after he'd been sacked, you know, four or eight times a game.
• 25:27
SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, I see him doing the same.
• 25:30
SPEAKER_03: You know, I saw him the first game uh at Minnesota, maybe not say or Green Bay, not say a lot, you know, to uh Flacco, but then after he thought, you know what, this guy is better than me.
• 25:42
  SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's good.
• 25:44
SPEAKER_03: And not only that, he's a major, you know, uh veteran that's been around for a long time.
• 25:48
SPEAKER_03: And then I saw Jake Browning just, you know, they were constantly communicating.
• 25:54
SPEAKER_03: So I I think with Joe Burrow, I think it's one of those things where you know, Joe Burrow sees what Joe Burrow sees.
• 26:02
SPEAKER_03: Joe Flacco sees what Joe Flacco sees.
• 26:05
SPEAKER_03: And I I don't think Joe Burrow wants to get in in Flacco's head and be like, hey, you know, on that, on that out, we're gonna, you know, it's going to be a back shoulder throw.
• 26:15
SPEAKER_03: And I I think there's such a continuity going on right now between T.
• 26:19
SPEAKER_03: Higgins, Jamar Chase, um, and and and a couple other guys that he doesn't want to mess that up.
• 26:27
SPEAKER_03: You know, he doesn't want to like a an extra coach in there saying something and whispering in your ear, hey, you might want to, and you know, I think he's just I think he's there for support, but yeah, that's about it.
• 26:40
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 26:41
SPEAKER_04: Well, you know, you you take that and then you uh you move on to the Cleveland Browns.
• 26:46
SPEAKER_04: Obviously they had a bye week.
• 26:48
SPEAKER_04: And you know, I I I saw where there's a potential to open up Deshaun Watson's practice window.
• 26:55
SPEAKER_04: Um he seems to think he would be he could thrive in this offense.
• 27:01
  SPEAKER_04: I I I don't see it.
• 27:03
SPEAKER_04: Um you know, if if if you were to watch the Cincinnati game and then l watch the Cleveland offense, it's so obvious that you gotta have good wide receivers.
• 27:18
SPEAKER_04: And Cincinnati has uh probably the best duo in the league and Cleveland, it's just they're Jerry Judy's their best high, but you can't count on him.
• 27:30
SPEAKER_04: You cannot count on him.
• 27:32
SPEAKER_04: And I I wonder, you know, Dylan Gabriel, you know, is this his last chance?
• 27:37
  SPEAKER_04: I I have no idea.
• 27:39
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh that that's those are great points.
• 27:42
SPEAKER_03: Um I like what you said about the predictability, the inconsistency, uh, because that's what I see too.
• 27:48
SPEAKER_03: Um, I did hear that they were gonna be buyers, not sellers.
• 27:52
SPEAKER_03: So, you know, it wonders, you know, I wonder what Andrew Berry, you know, is he is he gonna trade veterans?
• 27:58
SPEAKER_03: You know, what's what's he gonna do?
• 28:00
SPEAKER_03: I mean, you got Nejoku, you got Teller, Wright, Ford, Collins, you know, are those guys gonna be traded for draft picks?
• 28:07
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, one thing I did hear that I thought was really interesting, and we talked about this in and uh you know for a lot the past several weeks.
• 28:17
SPEAKER_03: Um, but one thing I didn't realize is Stefansky and Gabriel, they have the same agent.
• 28:24
  unknown: Yeah.
• 28:25
  SPEAKER_04: I read that too.
• 28:27
SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, one of those things is, you know, well, you try to put two and two together, and we're racking our heads, you know, why why just not give them a chance?
• 28:36
SPEAKER_03: And I was thinking about this listening to our podcast last week, Kenny.
• 28:41
SPEAKER_03: Uh went back and revisited that.
• 28:43
SPEAKER_03: And I'm thinking, why not make a two-quarterback system?
• 28:48
SPEAKER_03: Why not have a package for Shador Sand?
• 28:51
SPEAKER_03: I mean, they have uh there's a lot of uh NFL teams that that utilize a two-quarterback system.
• 28:59
SPEAKER_03: I mean, even last year, you know, when you had um Russell Wilson and um um oh the high state quarterback for the Jets.
• 29:10
  SPEAKER_03: What's his name?
• 29:12
  SPEAKER_03: Fields.
• 29:13
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Fields, sorry.
• 29:15
SPEAKER_03: Um, they they at Pittsburgh, they had a package for Fields, they had a package for, you know, obviously for Russell, who was their starter, but they had a package for Justin Fields.
• 29:26
SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, they do that at quite a quite a lot of places.
• 29:30
SPEAKER_03: I mean, New Orleans did it, you know, for a long time with that uh with that running back that they had slash QB.
• 29:38
SPEAKER_03: I mean, they did a great job with that.
• 29:40
SPEAKER_03: Um you know, and and Drew Brees was even the quarterback back then.
• 29:44
SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, there's there's there's uh there's packages that you can use and utilize to throw Shador Sanders in there just to appease people and just to get him some experience.
• 29:56
SPEAKER_03: Um, and there's nothing wrong with that.
• 29:59
  SPEAKER_03: And And I just w I you know, I wonder why that's that's not happening.
• 30:04
SPEAKER_04: Well, for the second season in a row, the uh Stefansky decides to turn over offensive coordinator duties to the OC and now Tommy Rees gets the chance to uh you know, make some play calls.
• 30:18
  SPEAKER_04: I don't know if that's gonna help.
• 30:20
SPEAKER_04: Um I don't think it can get worse.
• 30:25
SPEAKER_04: I mean, they're probably the lowest scoring offense in the league, and it's there's they gotta they gotta do something.
• 30:30
SPEAKER_04: And if you're Stefansky, you gotta think I gotta turn it around.
• 30:36
SPEAKER_04: I mean, I cannot see how if they continue down this road, how he continues as as head coach.
• 30:42
SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, I I give him credit.
• 30:44
SPEAKER_03: I mean, he at least they heard, you know, he's heard people say, you know, that he's getting too predictable, he's inconsistent.
• 30:52
SPEAKER_03: So I give him credit for saying, you know what, you give it a try.
• 30:56
SPEAKER_03: Um, so you know, that part of it'll be interesting.
• 31:00
SPEAKER_03: Uh, like I said, I I would just like to see uh what Sanders has um maybe in a in a package or in a wildcat for you know, where they hike it directly to him and you know he takes off or does something.
• 31:15
SPEAKER_03: I you know, to part of me is just like I just uh just to give the crowd something to think about and and the defense something to think about too.
• 31:26
SPEAKER_03: I mean, when you can just sit back and play base coverage, you know, like I said, and like you said, Jerry Judy, I mean, he's talented, but I mean he's not he's not in the category of some of these elite, you know, top ten receivers out there.
• 31:40
SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's good, but um, yeah, I mean, uh I think you're you're spot on when you said that.
• 31:46
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they got to go out and you know get a a veteran receiver that they can count on.
• 31:52
SPEAKER_04: You know, I'd love to see like uh uh the two Ohio State guys that are out there, Olave and uh the one they're gonna see this weekend for the Jets.
• 32:01
  SPEAKER_04: But it's Cleveland.
• 32:04
  SPEAKER_04: I I don't understand it, and I I don't think I ever will.
• 32:08
SPEAKER_04: I and I've been frustrated for my whole entire life watching them.
• 32:12
SPEAKER_04: So it's uh you gotta wonder, you know, at least they got the defense they can count on, and um the defense is holding their own.
• 32:21
SPEAKER_04: It just it's the NFL.
• 32:23
SPEAKER_04: You've got to be able to score more than 12, 14 points a game.
• 32:26
SPEAKER_04: And I just don't know if that's possible is Dylan Gabriel's quarterback.
• 32:30
SPEAKER_04: You know, and if they get the other thing is they just do what they do the first series.
• 32:35
SPEAKER_04: They they drive right down the field, and then after that, it's like ah okay, we're done.
• 32:40
SPEAKER_04: I can't figure it out, you know.
• 32:42
  SPEAKER_04: So I I I I go into it.
• 32:45
SPEAKER_04: And and here's the crazy part for my lot this week.
• 32:49
SPEAKER_04: I think I got Cleveland uh, you know, minus two and a half against the Jets.
• 32:54
  SPEAKER_04: I think they're gonna win.
• 32:55
SPEAKER_04: I don't know how, but the Jets had a fire sale, so hopefully they can do that.
• 32:59
SPEAKER_04: And my my upset is Jacksonville getting uh plus one and a half.
• 33:07
SPEAKER_03: Well, I just want to let you know how good we did last week.
• 33:10
SPEAKER_03: I mean, we were like uh four or five out of six, with the only loss being the Bengals, who shouldn't have got beat.
• 33:17
SPEAKER_03: So we've been really, really good on our uh picks uh this week, and I liked it.
• 33:22
SPEAKER_03: I like the ones that you had.
• 33:24
SPEAKER_03: Um, I like Minnesota to upset Baltimore.
• 33:28
SPEAKER_03: Um, I think that game's at Minnesota.
• 33:32
SPEAKER_03: Uh Minnesota's getting four and a half points.
• 33:35
SPEAKER_03: So I like that upset.
• 33:38
SPEAKER_03: Um I thought Minnesota played really well against uh Detroit last week.
• 33:42
SPEAKER_03: Um I thought Baltimore was um okay.
• 33:48
SPEAKER_03: Uh didn't really do anything special.
• 33:51
SPEAKER_03: Um, so I think they're right for the pickings.
• 33:54
SPEAKER_03: I know Lamar's coming back and doing all that stuff, but um hey, you know, I I I just like uh Minnesota there.
• 34:02
SPEAKER_03: I also like my lock, Carolina at home over New Orleans, and New Orleans is getting five and a half, so I still like Carolina there.
• 34:11
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Carolina's been a little bit of a surprise for sure this year.
• 34:16
SPEAKER_04: And uh of course I think uh Bryce Young's just getting better as he he continues to go on.
• 34:22
SPEAKER_04: Now, you know, I wanted to mention to you, I saw a mock draft and the Cincinnati Bengals, they had as their first round pick.
• 34:31
  SPEAKER_04: Arvell Reese.
• 34:33
SPEAKER_04: Would you be all right with that?
• 34:34
SPEAKER_03: I would be totally fine with that.
• 34:36
SPEAKER_03: I would even, I would, I wouldn't mind Sonny Styles, I wouldn't mind uh Caleb Downs, um, any of the defensive uh line guys um out there.
• 34:48
SPEAKER_03: Um Kenyatta I mean somebody that's just gonna uh I'm tired of getting I'm tired of seeing Shamar Stewart planted on his backside.
• 34:59
SPEAKER_03: Um tired of the linebackers just barely missing that running back going around the end.
• 35:04
SPEAKER_03: So yeah, anybody would help.
• 35:08
  SPEAKER_04: Yes, that's for sure.
• 35:09
SPEAKER_04: And uh, you know, I don't even know where the Browns would even start.
• 35:12
SPEAKER_04: You know, of course I saw one draft mop mock where they had uh the Browns selecting the quarterback from Washington.
• 35:23
  SPEAKER_04: Oh that's that's not the answer.
• 35:26
  SPEAKER_01: Yes.
• 35:28
  SPEAKER_04: That's not the answer.
• 35:30
  SPEAKER_04: But who knows?
• 35:32
SPEAKER_04: Well, do you have anything to finish up for the week here?
• 35:35
SPEAKER_03: No, other than the fact that um, you know, I think we're uh we're spot on on a lot of these things, Kenny, and and um you know we're learning just as we go along, but um I think we're getting some good insight out there to people, and uh it's been fun.
• 35:50
SPEAKER_04: Yes, and maybe uh DraftKings or one of those groups will uh reach out to us since we're we're doing such a good job picking them.
• 35:57
  SPEAKER_04: You never know.
• 35:58
  SPEAKER_03: I'll give them a call.
• 35:59
  SPEAKER_04: Hey, there you go.
• 36:01
SPEAKER_04: Well, hey, it's the SOB podcast score, Orange and Brown.
• 36:05
  SPEAKER_04: I'm Ken Carpenter.
• 36:06
  SPEAKER_03: I'm Chris Husman.
• 36:08
SPEAKER_04: Thanks for listening, and see you next week.
