- 0:02A listener production.
- 0:04Welcome to the Motorsport Brief.
- 0:06Today, a little of everything.
- 0:07Gold Coast supercars, family following in your footsteps and the fanbassador with the lot.
- 0:15G'day everyone, Rusty here.
- 0:16Welcome to another edition of the Shortcast.
- 0:18Four-time Bathurst winner Greg Murphy is with us for this one.
- 0:21He's back.
- 0:22Another ep of what you've affectionately come to know as the Grig & Grigg Show.
- 0:27He'll be in Adelaide in a couple of weeks' time for the 25th edition of the Velo Adelaide 500 season finale of Supercars.
- 0:34He'll be doing all kinds of fan engagement activity there and we will get to Murph on that and more in just a moment.
- 0:40We'll be right back.
- 0:41Little mention for our latest feature ep, which dropped in recent days with TCR Australia champion Josh Buchan.
- 0:47From a game of roulette that got him to the next race meeting, to making the most of chance phone calls as he climbed the ladder, driving some weapons for road and cars at World Time Attack and more.
- 0:58Even if you don't know Josh, you will enjoy that conversation and get to know him a little bit better.
- 1:03Plus another shorty that is definitely worth a listen.
- 1:06Search for Bruno Senna.
- 1:08His frank assessment of his own F1 chapter, growing up around his legendary uncle Ayrton and a story that he hasn't really shared about that family time before.
- 1:18His work now with McLaren, which keeps the Senna name tied to the iconic mark, what he thinks of Oscar Piastri and Daniel Ricciardo's brutal exit from Formula One recently.
- 1:30Now, I recorded this at the Hampton Downs Circuit.
- 1:32Murph has a role here as motorsport manager, along with the Highlands and Topor Circuit.
- 1:38We'll talk about the Tony Quinn Foundation and the great work being done there, along with his Street Smart Road Safety Program.
- 1:46You might be able to hear in the background, the new Toyota GR86s are here today, ahead of the New Zealand season opener.
- 1:53And the name Murphy is on the entry list.
- 1:56But instead of driving, Greg is watching on from the sidelines as his son Cormac continues the transition from two wheels and motocross to four and some circuit racing.
- 2:08Hello, mate.
- 2:10Hello.
- 2:10Have you caught your breath?
- 2:11You're busy lately.
- 2:14Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 2:15Oh, yeah, we're all busy, aren't we?
- 2:17Just in various different ways.
- 2:20Yes, it's been a bit chaotic.
- 2:21It's not going to get any easier or quieter until...
- 2:27post, yeah, December sometime, which is pretty normal, but you know, that's okay.
- 2:33I'd rather be busy than not.
- 2:34Not.
- 2:35Okay.
- 2:35This is a little 15 minute.
- 2:36Let's call it a state of the nation.
- 2:37We'll bounce around a couple of things.
- 2:38Firstly, you're here at Hampton Downs.
- 2:40Cormac is racing again in 86.
- 2:44Not the first time that you've kind of, you know, what I'm trying to get to is how do you balance being former racer, dad, and kind of stepping back a little to let him find his own feet?
- 2:55Is that easy, darling?
- 2:56No, it's not easy.
- 2:58And, you know, I'm a big believer in this class, the 86 class Toyota do like they do in Australia.
- 3:03They're phenomenal what they put into the sport here in New Zealand.
- 3:07And it's a wonderful class.
- 3:09New cars this year, of course.
- 3:10So that's been a big challenge for Toyota, you know, getting that all sorted.
- 3:14But again, they look amazing.
- 3:17They've excelled in that respect.
- 3:18So, you know, big day here today that we're at with sort of,
- 3:25official testing getting underway.
- 3:27And, you know, yeah, Cormac's having another go on it.
- 3:29So, yeah, it's challenging because, you know, I just am not living vicariously through my kids' racing.
- 3:38They've got to do a lot of it, you know, the majority of it themselves.
- 3:41So, yeah.
- 3:43to get there and do it.
- 3:44And he's having a go and, you know, there's no big bloody, you know, plan in place.
- 3:52It's one step at a time.
- 3:54And, you know, if it goes well, then he'll have to work out what he can do next.
- 3:59If it doesn't, well, you know, that's the reality.
- 4:02It's pretty challenging out there in the young up-and-coming driver market.
- 4:07I love the fact that he's having a go and he's always got this bright smile on his face, so he's clearly enjoying it.
- 4:12separately in a little kind of cat out of the bag thing, I get to work with his older brother this year on the Next Gen coverage, which I'm really excited about.
- 4:20He and I did one commentary together, maybe around the COVID period.
- 4:25And I'd always known that he's had this beautiful, deep,
- 4:29love for, I mean, his memory retention around car stuff has been unbelievable the whole way along and I think he'll fit into that role really well.
- 4:37I'm excited about the chance to work with him there.
- 4:40I'm looking forward to him doing that too because, you know, he's had a crack at the car racing thing and he was in Australia last year and it
- 4:47Hasn't, you know, hasn't worked out the way that he would have obviously loved it too.
- 4:51But he loves the sport.
- 4:52And this is a great way, a little bit like me when my career finished as well, finding another avenue, another connect with the sport and stay involved.
- 5:00And, you know, so I think, yeah, he's really looking forward to that.
- 5:05And, I mean, his retention is phenomenal.
- 5:07I mean, you know, isn't it funny when kids have actually something that they really, really are –
- 5:13almost obsessed with how much they can remember.
- 5:15I wish he was obsessed with a bunch of other things around, you know, life.
- 5:19That's it.
- 5:21Anyway, so, and also history.
- 5:25He loves history.
- 5:26So he loves the history of the sport.
- 5:27So he's actually got a wonderful sort of,
- 5:31archive in his brain around lots to do with the history of the sport through lots of different disciplines of the sport as well, categories of the sport.
- 5:41So that's very cool.
- 5:42And yeah, I think he'll thrive working with a great team doing the next gen stuff over the summer.
- 5:48I reckon I can recall very vividly a conversation with him when he was very little and he was flipping through like a book on Bruce McLaren and he knew all
- 5:55this intimate detail around it so the years he knows the years that things happens and you know and again it's a he reads it once and and it's and it's stuck in there i read it once and i've forgotten it by in three minutes time you know so it's it's it's pretty that's yeah he he is a really appreciate his appreciation of of the game
- 6:15definitely people and the cars and the history and so on you mentioned next gen not to be confused with gen 3 in australia we are talking about the new name for effectively the summer series in new zealand that's going to be good isn't it yeah and and you know it's a great tie-in the the the the next gen thing i mean we've you know people talk a lot about kiwi drivers right and how come you guys deliver so many amazing drivers here in new zealand how come they're so good and they you know go all over the world doing things and it it
- 6:42When we look back at it, yeah, we've produced all these amazing talents.
- 6:47And also, you know, through the CTFROC or the old TRS, the amount of drivers that that has contributed to the world ultimately.
- 6:57across all stages just look at you know uh who's in formula one at the moment and achieving and the fact that they were down here in new zealand at some stage doing trs or ct frock at some stage so it's about producing the next generation of driver and we've done such a wonderful job of that so the name fits so incredibly well um around naming the summer series the next gen series because who is going to be that that next generation of of superstar coming out of of racing in new zealand so and i love the fact that
- 7:27that the constituents, the older generation, if you like, are also going to be encouraged to support the growth of that next generation in their role.
- 7:35So we still have our arm around the established names of the game here while also giving a focus to the next wave coming through, which is awesome.
- 7:42Exactly.
- 7:43And we have...
- 7:44have that ability to do that with the categories that we have that still align so much with, you know, with what's going on around the rest of the world and those stepping stones, right?
- 7:53Those building blocks, that's what we are here to do and that's what we have done in the past.
- 7:57So why not actually really grab that proudly and maximize the storylines?
- 8:04Yeah.
- 8:05From the various hats that you wear, you've added a new one.
- 8:08You are a fan-bacetor.
- 8:10Yeah.
- 8:10You're a fan-bacetor.
- 8:11I love this.
- 8:11Is that in the dictionary?
- 8:12I don't even know if that's a real word.
- 8:14I don't think so.
- 8:14Whoever created it, well done.
- 8:15You did that at Bathurst recently.
- 8:17Clearly look like you're having a good time.
- 8:18You're off to do that in Adelaide as well.
- 8:20Tell us about that.
- 8:21You know, I loved Bathurst this year.
- 8:26We had a lot of fun working with the amazing Ripco team, you know, going up the mountain and doing the meat giveaways, the meat pack giveaways and stuff, working with Gary and the Showtime team was fantastic, a lot of fun.
- 8:39And, you know, I got to do some laps as well, which was awesome.
- 8:41And then the opportunity was... Nolsey singing.
- 8:44Yeah, exactly.
- 8:45Nolsey and I were on the stage...
- 8:47You've always been a closet rock star.
- 8:48That's right.
- 8:50I let myself down.
- 8:51Anyway, the opportunity then presented, come to Adelaide and, you know, be a part of the exposure of that event.
- 9:01And, you know, obviously played a significant part of my life was, you know, and I was there at the beginning, the first ever one in 1999, you know, 25 year anniversary of the
- 9:12of the Adelaide 500 this year which is phenomenal um supercars supercross speedway I mean it's got a speedway I mean that is just I mean supercross events obviously as well it's going to be great um SX Open and plus um Oz Supercross but also having a sprint car track built within the precinct as well for the event over a hundred thousand dollars worth of uh prize money for that that is
- 9:37That event laid the foundations, didn't it?
- 9:41I mean, it set the standard for all other events to try and replicate or meet.
- 9:47And it has continued to do that for year after year after year after year.
- 9:51And it's just a wonderful...
- 9:55environment.
- 9:56Great racetrack with great history and bones that lead back to Formula One back in the 80s, into the 90s.
- 10:03We're lucky to have it as a sport.
- 10:07I always loved it.
- 10:08Being at the front end of the series was always a massive challenge.
- 10:13Starting
- 10:14Starting a year strong at Adelaide, you know, you felt was a huge achievement, but also set yourself up, you know, hopefully for the rest of the season.
- 10:23Finishing is exciting.
- 10:24Having it at the end is in some ways is probably where it should be, you know, maybe.
- 10:30Because, you know, to finish on a high, a massive high in an event like that, you know, keeps that enthusiasm going and gives everyone something to look forward to as well.
- 10:40So look forward to it at the beginning, but I think at the end is gives it just that little bit more excitement.
- 10:47People listening would love a little bounce around on some of the supercars subject matter.
- 10:50Firstly, Brody looks like he's back between what he did at the Gold Coast, the effort at Mount Panorama and so on.
- 10:59Yeah, that's, you know, looking like a sharp end to his...
- 11:02Erebus chapter before he goes to DJR and he's going to make a real difference at Dick Johnson Racing isn't he well you would assume so absolutely based on what he is bringing to the table I mean he's got a a wonderful obviously relationship again with the with the engineering side of things there with George Commons and the likes and and
- 11:21I take my hat off to him because, you know, when he did get back in the car, whatever round that was, was it round three?
- 11:27Round three, I think.
- 11:28Round three, I think it was.
- 11:28Was it Topol?
- 11:29Was it?
- 11:29It might have been Topol.
- 11:30He did.
- 11:31I think you're right, 100%.
- 11:32So, which seems like an eternity ago.
- 11:34It's not that long ago.
- 11:35You know, it just, there looked to be still a disconnect going on there, right, at Erebus between him and whatever was happening there, which we may never know the full truths of.
- 11:47It just didn't look like it was...
- 11:49It was happening.
- 11:50But then slowly it's just all come together.
- 11:52And, I mean, man, it culminated with a performance, you know, at Bathurst that was a standout.
- 11:59I mean, yes, the race wasn't super exciting, but as a purist watching it, the battle and the mental game.
- 12:06You have to admire that, don't you?
- 12:07You've got to stop and admire that.
- 12:08You do need to stop and admire it.
- 12:10And, you know, and I take my hat off to Brock Feeney too for the pressure.
- 12:14I mean, he didn't, he just, there was nothing he could do about it.
- 12:17And it wasn't anything to do with the fact that he wasn't good enough or anything.
- 12:21There was just a small difference, a tiny, tiny percentage difference between those two cars.
- 12:26And Brody managed to just wheel that thing.
- 12:32To just be able to showcase his skill set, what Erebus provided him with a car, and get the job done, I thought it was an amazing battle.
- 12:41And then he rolls up a couple of weeks later at the Gold Coast, and yes, Saturday didn't quite play out with a curb strike in the shootout.
- 12:51But then he went and put it together on Sunday, and it was, again, another stunning performance.
- 12:54So he's exciting.
- 12:56He is really exciting.
- 12:57I was worried, as I said, when he came back that things weren't quite there, but they've rallied very well.
- 13:04And he's going to be strong at Adelaide at the final too, so lots to look forward to there.
- 13:08The championship battle, of course, is down to the two cars at Ample Red Bull Racing who have delivered a more –
- 13:16a complete performance all year as a whole, right?
- 13:18Haven't they?
- 13:19To actually put them in that space.
- 13:21It would be great if there was a couple more cars in there, but it just proves what you've got to do, basically, in a championship that is that tough.
- 13:28It's not like they've dominated either.
- 13:30They've been very strong and they have been consistent, but it's not been a monster domination by Red Bull.
- 13:36They've just been consistent this year.
- 13:37Brownies title to lose.
- 13:38What is it, 180 points?
- 13:39I think he's got in the back pocket going into Adelaide.
- 13:41I mean, that's going to make it...
- 13:43make it very exciting.
- 13:44A bit of pressure.
- 13:45Very.
- 13:45Yeah.
- 13:45I mean, it's going to definitely put him into a space that he probably hasn't felt before.
- 13:55Going into the last round, it's not going to be a walk in the park.
- 13:58I mean, I'm sure Feeney and his side of the garage, you know, will be free to fight until it's not going to be realistic anymore because that's the way they operate at Red Bull.
- 14:11So that's going to be really exciting.
- 14:12But the pressure is going to be on because you're going to have to qualify.
- 14:15You are going to have to qualify because everyone else in the field, they don't care.
- 14:20They're not interested.
- 14:20They want to win a race.
- 14:21Matt Payne won his first race there in the second race on the Sunday last year.
- 14:25And there's other people out there that are just focused on finishing their season on a high.
- 14:30He turned around at the Gold Coast from a mindset point of view recently well, Matt.
- 14:34That must have been tough for him at Bathurst, going from, you know, provisional poll on Friday, the incident in the race and what have you.
- 14:41They're tough things for a young racer to deal with, aren't they?
- 14:45And then, you know, only two weeks later to come back and try and put it out of your mind.
- 14:48Yeah, totally.
- 14:50But I think he's built the right way around that, you know.
- 14:54But it's good to see him putting it on the line, you know, and...
- 14:59And, you know, not going and just taking it back a step.
- 15:05You know, you're not going to move forward.
- 15:06You're not going to learn.
- 15:07You're not going to progress if you pull back inside your shell.
- 15:11But he's got that kind of tendency makeup where he's pretty relaxed and free-flowing.
- 15:18And I don't really think those things really get to him at all.
- 15:21Cool, cool.
- 15:22Are you happy for Richie?
- 15:23I mean, does that seem like a good home premier?
- 15:25That's great for him, isn't it?
- 15:26I'm just happy to see that he is actually, since getting the slap in the face from Groves, saying, well, we don't want you next year, and sort of having to deal with that again, and then turn things around and realize that at that moment, listen, I've got nothing to lose.
- 15:46I need to free up.
- 15:48the way I've been driving, which he did.
- 15:50And that was part of, I suppose, maybe part of the decision process that he was...
- 15:55He became sort of a little bit too concerned, I think at Groves there, about performance.
- 16:00And he was...
- 16:03not allowing his natural ability and natural flow sort of determine the outcome.
- 16:09And then once he got released, you know, and knowing that he wasn't going to be driving in 25 at Groves, his performances have got better again, you know.
- 16:17That's a nice observation, yeah.
- 16:18Yeah, because he's just realised there was nothing to lose.
- 16:21And that's the way he needs to drive all the time.
- 16:24is like, you know, I've got nothing to lose.
- 16:27I've just got to play it in my natural game and let it happen.
- 16:30And, you know, he's been particularly quick in the last little while and, you know, got in the shootout two days running in the Gold Coast.
- 16:40car didn't deliver in the race on the Saturday at the Gold Coast.
- 16:45It was better on a Sunday, but strategically, I think the team made a bit of a meal of it.
- 16:49Just, I don't know why you'd stay out and lose track position like that both days.
- 16:54But anyway, that's what's happened.
- 16:56But I think he's...
- 16:57He's pretty prepared now for the end of the year and showcasing his speed again.
- 17:03And it's going to be a different environment at Premier Racing.
- 17:06But, you know, Pete Shabiris is very focused, committed, and there's some great people there.
- 17:11And I think that environment alongside Jimmy Golding and he and Matt Payne have been great as teammates.
- 17:17They've really enjoyed each other and I think they get on really, really well.
- 17:20but he'll fall into a nice relationship again with Jimmy Golding there as a good pair and Premier have been doing a good job particularly with Jimmy's car this in the last little while that could be really nice timing and I hope he does have that that freedom to flow as you say quick thought on young Ryan Wood Walkinshaw and reunited we've seen glimpses of his speed his talent I love the fact that his character has been coming through a bit in some of the socials and stuff so he's got yeah he's got some some good things to come I feel
- 17:45A lot.
- 17:46There's a lot of good things to come there.
- 17:48It's just the beginning.
- 17:51Everyone's got to remember he's a rookie.
- 17:53Some of these places he hasn't been to.
- 17:54He'd never been to the Gold Coast before and was right up there.
- 17:58The performance of the car was good.
- 18:00Their overall performance wasn't actually then rewarded with any kind of result over the weekend, which was disappointing.
- 18:09Dee Pasquale getting it all wrong and firing into the back of him.
- 18:13after the back chicane was a disappointing situation disappointing for both those cars of course but yeah a bit of a mistake there by Anton which led to a bit of a disaster as well so you know he never got a chance to actually you know
- 18:29get into rhythm and showcase exactly what he had at the Gold Coast.
- 18:33But the team, I think, love having him around.
- 18:35You know, again, it's about an energy within these environments.
- 18:39And I think he's brought an energy into WAU, which they are really enjoying.
- 18:44But it's about limiting mistakes from both sides and starting to piece some things together.
- 18:49You know, Chas has clearly got, you know, still so much to offer there.
- 18:53His speed has been great.
- 18:55unfortunately, things have gone awry in a few races there for him as well, which has limited the outcome.
- 19:02So, you know, it's about ticking all the boxes, dotting the I's, crossing the T's, all those little cliches and getting those things right if you want to compete at the front end.
- 19:11A break on this edition of the Rusty's Garage Shortcast.
- 19:13More with Greg Murphy on the other side of this.
- 19:18You're listening to the Motorsport Brief, a bit of Supercars flavour to this ep with the Bathurst winner, four-time Bathurst winner, Lap of the Gods legend, you'll hate me calling him that, Greg Murphy.
- 19:27You can also find lots of great editions of our new Drivers Only podcast in the Garage Library, including the recent Bathurst special with the great race winners, Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood from Erebus, along with the 2010 Supercars champion, James Courtney.
- 19:44The GC edition,
- 19:46of that show drops soon.
- 19:47So keep an eye out for notifications on that.
- 19:50Let's get back to the convo with Murph now.
- 19:53A great year for you with Sky Speed.
- 19:55Lots to be excited about, obviously, with McLaughlin, Scott Dixon, and even, I thought, the way that Marcus Armstrong came on this year was another good story too.
- 20:04For him next year moving to, well, what's the name of the team he's going to?
- 20:10Armstrong?
- 20:10Dryer Rimbled?
- 20:11No, Armstrong.
- 20:14Listen to us, listen to us.
- 20:16Myer Shank racing.
- 20:17Myer Shank, thank you, sorry.
- 20:18Well done.
- 20:18I think that's awesome.
- 20:20I think they've got huge potential there.
- 20:24And seat's been opened up for him to go.
- 20:26So that's a good move for him.
- 20:27So yeah, I can't wait for IndyCar to get cracking again.
- 20:30Liam Lawson, holy.
- 20:32So points at Austin.
- 20:35I know Mexico was a little bit tougher.
- 20:37Dave, check out the bird.
- 20:38I hope he got out of Mexico, okay?
- 20:40Well, no one's heard from him.
- 20:42by the time this goes to hear, hopefully someone has actually heard from him.
- 20:47If he turns up next week in Brazil, or this week in Brazil, then we know he's okay.
- 20:50But he's kind of set the tone, mate, hasn't he?
- 20:52Absolutely.
- 20:53That's really good.
- 20:54Listen, Mexico, Austin was great.
- 20:57What a performance.
- 20:58Everyone was talking about it.
- 20:59And then he goes to Mexico, and let's be honest, he got dudded by his teammate at the end of qualifying, snowed to crashing.
- 21:08I think that, by the looks of it, both of them had very much the chance to be into Q3.
- 21:14So starting where they did.
- 21:16I don't think the RB looked that good as a race car.
- 21:18I think they struggled.
- 21:19The strategy didn't work.
- 21:20Starting first guy on the grid to start on the medium.
- 21:23Medium, yeah.
- 21:24uh, and go to the hard, just didn't, didn't play out.
- 21:26And I don't think the car was good enough on its tires either.
- 21:28Uh, so he got involved in a few little bits and pieces here and there.
- 21:32I hope he doesn't sort of, you know, think that there was a, um, a negative, I mean, there sort of was in some ways, but, but I hope he doesn't see that as, as being judged too harshly.
- 21:41I thought it was great just to see them putting his elbows out and going, I don't care who you are.
- 21:45I'm, I'm,
- 21:46I'm here and I'm here to stay.
- 21:47So lots of commentary about it.
- 21:49It's making F1 very exciting.
- 21:51But at the end of the day, geez, if Red Bull can't see that he's the guy that they need to stick with Max to move the number one team forward, then clearly there's – watch, we know there's other things at play, but it's time to make that shift.
- 22:04Two to finish here because Cormac's about to go out and do some start practice, I think.
- 22:08I don't want to see that.
- 22:09You don't want to watch that?
- 22:10I don't want to smell burning clutch.
- 22:11Yeah.
- 22:13Is it Louis Sharp?
- 22:14Is it Liam Skeets?
- 22:16Is it Callum Hedge?
- 22:17I mean, we're looking at, you know, your involvement with the Tony Quinn Foundation, which is doing some great things.
- 22:21There are other young Kiwis spread across the globe doing different things in single-seaters, aren't there?
- 22:26Yeah, absolutely.
- 22:27I mean, as we see...
- 22:27speak right now uh liam skeets and callum hedge are at barber motorsports park and um where alabama i think it is uh over there doing their second test in indy next um uh callum is locked and loaded for next year with uh able motorsports um and liam's just uh he's testing with hmd and just trying to put that campaign together again it's just down to the money and these kids have got talent there's no question about that and they are working their butts off to try and make that
- 22:56The budgets we're talking are incredibly big.
- 23:01Louis Sharp, he's on his way.
- 23:03Thanks to David Dicker, Rotten Motorsport, supporting him into F3 next year.
- 23:11That kid's got a future.
- 23:13There's F1 teams, I think, should be probably clambering over to try and get his...
- 23:17his name next to their brand.
- 23:19So there's lots to be excited about moving forward.
- 23:23And, you know, this summer we've got a packed field again in 86.
- 23:29And obviously C.T.
- 23:30Frock's going to be great to watch again.
- 23:32We're giving away some money, I think it's next week.
- 23:34Well, we can't, I know it is next week.
- 23:36The Tony Quinn Foundation is giving away a scholarship for our CTFROC for this year.
- 23:41So that'll go to one lucky recipient.
- 23:43I think it's about 80 grand or something we're giving away.
- 23:45So yeah, there's lots going on in that space.
- 23:47Final one, road safety.
- 23:50You got quite a boost this year for the StreetSmart program, which has really helped shift it back into Top Gear, which I think is terrific.
- 23:56Tony Quinn has come on board and assisted you to...
- 24:01start making an impactful difference again to youngsters on our roads and, and learning to be better drivers, given the conditions that they're confronted with.
- 24:10How are you going?
- 24:10How are you going with all that?
- 24:12Yeah.
- 24:12I mean, it has built a lot of momentum since that announcement and, um,
- 24:18We strategically obviously positioned it around the Taupo Supercars event and got some good buy-in with that from Supercars as well and also put a few politicians under some pressure as well around that all.
- 24:33So that was good, but it has garnered a lot of momentum since then.
- 24:37And a lot of it's to do with the development,
- 24:42the tragedy that spurred this on, which was young Keelan Stroud, 17 years old, who tragically died in a road accident in Cromwell, just down the road from Highlands, earlier this year in March.
- 24:55And his amazing family, his parents, who have...
- 24:59allowed us to use their suffering basically to tell the story.
- 25:05Their story, yeah.
- 25:07And we play the video of them talking about their loss at every Street Smart day.
- 25:16Man, that must be powerful.
- 25:19I don't know, no matter how many times I watch it, the way it makes me feel emotionally, and everybody that sees that video of them talking about their grief, it is impactful, but it's real.
- 25:33It is absolutely real, and it's happening way too often, and it's due to this inexperience, ill preparation, a...
- 25:43Our graduated licensing system here is failing dismally, and it has done for decades, and we've lost so many people unnecessarily because of the preparation, the lack of preparation that young people have when it comes to being safe behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.
- 26:01So we are making a difference.
- 26:02We know we are.
- 26:03It's a long road ahead of us to try and get significant change in the right areas.
- 26:08But, you know, I see a light in the tunnel, but I've seen the light before and it's disappeared.
- 26:14It's back again at the moment.
- 26:16But we've got to make that light much bigger and make the tunnel a lot shorter to get where we need to be.
- 26:21So some good partners on board.
- 26:23Subaru are on board with it as well.
- 26:25And we've got some other announcements coming around people that want to support the StreetSmart
- 26:31foundation to actually make a difference along with TQF.
- 26:35So yeah, that's exciting, but it can't come fast enough because the longer we take, the more damage will be done.
- 26:42And that, in my mind, is just ridiculous.
- 26:44Well done.
- 26:45Keep pushing.
- 26:45For those listening on this side of the ditch, go to the StreetSmart website because dates are filling fast.
- 26:50StreetSmart.nz.
- 26:52There you go.
- 26:52For 2025 in particular, get your kids involved.
- 26:56It's $149 to come along for a day course, which will 100% change their level of understanding and their safety on the road, but also because a caregiver, parent comes along, whoever it is comes along.
- 27:11you are going to learn something too because mostly it's been a long time since any of the parents or guardians or caregivers have any have had any if any training or training around driving as well so you're guaranteed to learn something and take something away from it awesome mate nice to catch up thanks for spending a moment and thanks rusty and enjoy summer
- 27:31I can't remember what we're up to now.

- 28:15and no blank check.

- 28:21We'll catch you next time.
- 28:22Bye for now.
