- 0:02Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Well, with the awful baseball season that
- 0:10we've had this year, I wanted to say maybe we shouldn't be so jated
- 0:17as baseball fans, because as last night proved every year, I mean every
- 0:24year, last year with Aaron Judge's sixty two homers and last night more history.
- 0:30Did you catch this? More history was made in the Major's thanks to
- 0:35Ronald A. Kunja Junior. Take a listener, Ronald had assist center less
- 0:47history and Ronald A. Kunja Junior just made history. He has Major League
- 0:54Baseball's first ever thirty sixty season, and he does it in great fashion.
- 1:03And what could very well be a playoff preview, The Braves and Dodgers squared
- 1:07off in La last night, and A Kuni Jr. As you hear from
- 1:14Braves on b Balley Ballet sports, made history thirty homers and sixty stolen bases,
- 1:25and yes it was openly August thirty first. Now I'm looking up here
- 1:29because obviously the king of stolen bases, Rickey Henderson, I mean Ricky Henderson,
- 1:46who set a record of one hundred and nineteen stolen bases in nineteen eighty
- 1:52two. And I don't know if a kune'll get there. But he didn't
- 2:00have that pop you would think, oh, a stolen base record. Maybe
- 2:04it's it's Ricky Anderson that that did something like that. I don't I don't
- 2:07think you ever did. But roonoo Kunia Junior to make history last night.
- 2:15It's just a message to Yankee and met bands who are so terribly jaded because
- 2:22our organizations are a complete mess, that there's still baseball going on, there's
- 2:28still playoff races going on, there's still history being made. So let's expand
- 2:32our horizons. Let's do our own call up, if you will. Let's
- 2:37expand our own roster of watching baseball. If our teams aren't doing it,
- 2:44let's look out. We'll swear hell else. Steinburner looks like he's gonna look
- 2:47elsewhere to evaluate this team. Why don't we look elsewhere to look at for
- 2:54some baseball fund this September and maybe history. You know, my dad's favorite
- 3:00team, the Cubs. They did not look like they were going to get
- 3:06to the l Central to win the NL Central. Well, I'll be damned.
- 3:13Here we are September first, and the Cubs are only three games out
- 3:19of the Inno Central, and then of course we look in that Central still
- 3:24and Harrison Bader. We're gonna miss him here in New York, but he
- 3:29got picked up by the Reds and they're in a playoff race two. And
- 3:36then my other I'm really keeping an eye on the Phillies because I just I
- 3:44haven't infinity for Philadelphia. So it's always fun to see them do well.
- 3:47It's always fun to see them win. And they're ahead in the wild card
- 3:52race right now, up four and a half in the let me get this
- 3:58right now, in the actual wild card they're actually the first wild card team
- 4:04of the three. So this is gonna be a fun month. Let's not
- 4:11let let's not let the disaster that's been the Mets and the Yankees twenty twenty
- 4:17three year spoil the rest of baseball for us. That's my message here on
- 4:24Fanatics Friday. Let's not let baseball be spoiled because the Mets and Yankees have
- 4:35just totally disappointed and totally shocked us with their poor performance. We didn't expect
- 4:47the million dollars arms of Verlander and Surgery get trained into the deadline, but
- 4:53they were. You didn't expect Aaron Judge to go down for three months on
- 5:00June twod but he did after crashing that gate in LA and the Yanks didn't
- 5:05recover since. And their only hope is that they can end up over five
- 5:14hundred at the end of this season. That's what their goals should be.
- 5:21And maybe the kids calling up at Jason de Minguez and the Mets calling up
- 5:27Mauricio, maybe they can provide some fireworks and some spark this month. Maybe
- 5:31Old Timer's Day in that nineteen ninety eight weekend. We'll bring back those memories
- 5:35of twenty five years ago. But the problem with New York sports is that
- 5:44they rest on their laurels. I tell you all the time, I go
- 5:47to the Masson's Wicker Garden and all they talk about is nineteen ninety four the
- 5:54Rangers. There's gotta be a better way. And you know what, you
- 6:01want to make this sitting nostalgic again, win again. You want to make
- 6:05the city think about the great times, make the great times again. But
- 6:13while we're at it, let's just not mope around this September. Let's appreciate
- 6:18baseball for what it is. This is exciting sport. The Meritors Finny shot
- 6:25up in August where they won twenty one games. They lead the division.
- 6:30That AO West Division is incredible right now. You look at it. You
- 6:38look at it, Seattle, Houston, Texas all in the running. But
- 6:45we don't know that because we're too fed up with how bad our teams are.
- 6:53But man, this is why I get Finnac's jerseys, because there's always
- 6:57a team to root for. Call me fair Weather, call me bandwagon,
- 7:00call me whatever. But maybe having a rotation of jerseys is not the worst
- 7:10thing of the world because then you know, if one team tanks, you
- 7:15can always pull out another jersey. Finanks had a great bit about the the
- 7:20guy that put on the raised jersey because of Saint Louis Cardinals weren't doing do
- 7:25good. And it's like, man, we should have playoff jerseys and regular
- 7:30sites in jerseys. That way we don't get two bummed out about baseball because
- 7:36it is our national pastime. And again, when you have moments like this
- 7:42in LA history, I remind you, it just reminds us how great this
- 7:47game is. Ronald has this so that center less history I had, Coon,
- 7:57You Junior just made history. And what I like about that is Ronald
- 8:01couldn't your Junior's health worries have been on and off, so it was good
- 8:07to see him finally have this kind of season where he can make history and
- 8:13be healthy and power the Braves. Look, we also don't highlight it because,
- 8:18quite frankly, Met fans and Yankee fans are supposed to hate on their
- 8:22division rivals. I don't hate the fact that the Orioles are killing it right
- 8:28now. I think there are a fun bunch to watch. I don't hate
- 8:31that Ronald couldn't you made history just because the Mets are in the basement or
- 8:37so to speak, Yeah, they literally are. Because this is beyond petty
- 8:45rivalry. It is beyond rivalry. Well that's not a petty rival but it's
- 8:48beyond rivalry. It's about how do we keep interested in the game, and
- 8:54if a late night game like last night in LA can be historical, we
- 9:01just gotta stay awake. We gotta keep our eyes open because there's plenty of
- 9:05baseball history to be made and we're not even done yet. It's only September.
- 9:11First Enjoys this month. I know it's not looking good for our baseball
- 9:16teams. I know that the Giants and Jets start up a week from Sunday
- 9:22in a week from Monday night. But don't let disastrous seasons on the home
- 9:31front ruin your love of the game, because there's always something going on in
- 9:37this sport, and that's why I love it and that's why I'm committed to
- 9:41following a little more. I think when when our teams have down years,
- 9:46we just shut it down the rest of the league. We do, but
- 9:52maybe we wouldn't be so miserable about it if we just opened our eyes and
- 9:56said, oh, there is other playoff baseball. There is something else to
- 10:01root for, And you know, I think it out. I think if
- 10:11the Cubs were to make a run here for the division, that would be
- 10:18special. I tell you, I do believe my dad's engineering something up there.
- 10:22Because the Cubs were almost out of this by what May, and now
- 10:31they've climbed right into it. They kept Cody Bellinger, they made a run
- 10:35at this, they didn't trade anybody the deadline, and they are a playoff
- 10:41contender. And that's smart baseball to keep your hitters where they are not tray
- 10:52around and try and figure it out. So they are a team who definitely
- 10:58keep an eye on. And then Philly, I guess myself. Spot with
- 11:03Philly is that you know, Rob Thompson is still managing down there. They
- 11:11just have a group of fun group of guys to watch. And for Baltimore,
- 11:18Adlee Rushley and and this Gunner Henderson. I mean, those two guys
- 11:22have been powering this Oriol team eighty three wins. What did we ever think
- 11:28we'd see that? I was member the first eighty three and fifty. That's
- 11:33baseball. And I know people got offended when Tampa was like, wow,
- 11:39we can't really worry about the Yankees. We gotta win a division. And
- 11:46look, people might be offended at the Raisers saying, oh, the Yanks
- 11:48are not of our concern right now, but that's twenty twenty three. That's
- 11:54the reality we're in. The Yankees are not concern to these playoff contenders.
- 12:03And that's why how Steinburnner is now bringing outsiders to evaluate how to be competitive
- 12:09again kind of strange, kind of worrisome. But do I dare say?
- 12:16And how we trust? I guess we have to, right, I guess
- 12:20we should. And it's tough for me because I know the Steinburner family is
- 12:26so damn well and their connection with my family and eye and to see the
- 12:31Steimerers struggling through this, trying to make it work. Now having to go
- 12:35to the outside route. It's kind of sad. But in twenty twenty four,
- 12:46I think we'll allot of these stimmers owning the Yankees. And obviously yesterday
- 12:50Jerry Ryansdorff saying we're going to keep owning the White Sox as bad as that's
- 12:58bid for Chicago Rhymes. Orf's not giving up. And when it comes to
- 13:11ownership, I still think of the A's a thirty nine and ninety five season
- 13:16so far, bumbling, plundering, bumbling around. What are they gonna do?
- 13:24Fans show up and say sell the team. Unfortunately we've seen that too
- 13:28here in the stadium. Not so going to sell the team fire catchment.
- 13:31But you know, if the Ngngstones start winning, there's gonna be those calls
- 13:35here too. Maybe this is just a blip on the radar, but don't
- 13:46get two down on the game, because if you keep your eyes open,
- 13:50you'll see history being made. Thirty Homer's sixty soling bases for the Atlanta Braves,
- 14:00his own Ronald and Kuney Jr. And I don't care if he's a
- 14:03division rival you're supposed to hate the braves, respect it, respect that kind
- 14:09of history. Thirty homers, sixty soul on basis, I can only imagine
- 14:15what September is going to bring for this game of baseball that we should all
- 14:20still law and a door. One final thought on this show today, and
- 14:30I will drop it in the links because of the one leg up feature.
- 14:33I could with this in sports, but sometimes sports bleeds into my one leg
- 14:37up feature and that's fine. Uh. I also thought this week, can
- 14:46we have what I'm calling a changing of the guard in Washington? Can these
- 14:52aids and doctors and people that are supposed to look after these elderly politicians tell
- 15:01these politicians you're not unhealthy enough to do this? How does the How does
- 15:07a doctor sign off that Mitch McConnell, after freezing up twice now is medically
- 15:13cleared to do his job. There are too many yes people down in Washington,
- 15:20and it's not giving the new guard a chance to thrive. And maybe
- 15:26we should give that changing of the guard an opportunity. Maybe the political old
- 15:31guards should go away, because, as I write on my blog at alex
- 15:37GNYC dot com, what you're seeing the link below it's sickening to me that
- 15:48they're letting these elderly politicians literally have health episodes in the middle of our right
- 15:54in front of our eyes. Biden's bumbling around, mumbling around them, falling
- 16:00around equated the MAUI fires to a kitchen fire of what these people are not
- 16:11right well? And I know that the new generation is daunting. I know
- 16:15that VIVIC is coming off as immature at times, AOC comes off as immature
- 16:21at times. The supposed leaders of AN even today. Biden defended Mitchell McConnell's
- 16:29health just now. But these other leaders newsome Verse Desanders. Neither of them
- 16:41are liked. But we can't keep holding onto that old guard till they die.
- 16:51That doesn't work and benefit Washington at all. And so that's where we
- 16:59are. Politics is literally frozen in time, and we the voter, could
- 17:04change that frozenness, that frozen nature. Maybe we will, highly unlikely,
- 17:18but maybe we will. Maybe God'll wig us all up somehow and say,
- 17:23oh, we gotta vote these people out because hell, Washington is not given
- 17:30itself term limits. So now we have to each and every one of us
- 17:36is out of making memes and complaining about it, get to the voting box.
- 17:42Put your vote in. Change it, change the guard, or we'll
- 17:48be stuck in this frozen nature for a very long time, and that's not
- 17:56going to help us progress in this world. On that note, I'm Alex
- 18:03Garrett. We'll talk to you soon with more interviews and more thoughts. But
- 18:11please don't let a rotten season from the Yankees and Mets ruined your love of
- 18:17baseball. Don't become too jaded so that you can't appreciate history on the diamond.
- 18:23One more time before I leave you today, Ronald had us a solt
- 18:29Center less history, and little La Kunja Junior just made history. Hello,
- 18:38we can enjoy Aaron Judge's sixty two home run run last season. We can
- 18:44ensure as heck, give props to Ronald Kuni Jr. For his journey on
- 18:48the braves that's finally been a healthy one. Have a great day and enjoy
- 18:55September. It's here baby, football, baseball, hockey coming up soon.
- 19:00A little bit of everything. Kind of exciting if you think about it.
- 19:04So let's not be jaded on September one. Talk to you later.
