- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, I wanted to talk about this last week, but
- 0:02I can never get a word in when Bill's here,
- 0:03So bringing it up, and uh, Soria nan So was
- 0:11on this British talk show. So Graham Norton is hugely
- 0:16famous talk show host in Great Britain and he I
- 0:21like how he does his show because he just has
- 0:25actors on, the celebrities, singers, whatever, and they're just kind
- 0:28of on a couch and they just it's not like
- 0:30an interview, it's just sort of like a big conversation.
- 0:34So they were talking. They were having people on from
- 0:37the movie Gladiator. Denzel Washington's in it all, Miss Scal's
- 0:42in it and Soria Arnan was there and if Carrie
- 0:46can play this little.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Clip, here's the clip.
- 0:50Speaker 3: There we go.
- 0:51Speaker 2: They're talking about being attacked.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Well, they're talking about us the clip, so paulma Scale's
- 0:58talking about how so they're they're they're promoting Gladiator. So
- 1:03they're talking about they're learning how to fight. He's trained
- 1:06how to fight. So they're talking about this this training
- 1:09fight training. Okay, find some of the techniques so that
- 1:12you learned, Like some of the things Paul taught us
- 1:14is how you can use how you can use your
- 1:17phone if someone's attacking you the butt of your phone.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Who's actually going to think about that? If someone attacks me,
- 1:22I'm not going to go phone.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Have to think about all the time, am I?
- 1:37Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Ladies? So the point so they're making a joke. So
- 1:43actually this guy did was taught Okay, you can fight,
- 1:46like take the butt of your phone and use it
- 1:48as a weapon. And and he's motioning how you, you know,
- 1:51can hit somebody in the face with with your phone.
- 1:54And she's just sort of sitting there leaning back, listening
- 1:57to these guys. And she came out afterwards and said,
- 2:00I love all these guys. I know they didn't mean
- 2:02anything by it, but I just think that men don't
- 2:04think about things like this. Every woman who's been walking
- 2:08to her car in a dark parking lot thinks what
- 2:11weapon do I have? I have my keys, Carrie would
- 2:15joke with me about this all the time. You put
- 2:17your keys in between your fingers like wolverine.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I'm very aware of this.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yet you think about that. You think about, Okay, I
- 2:25have my phone, do I do the thing where I
- 2:27pretend like I'm talking to somebody? So because you think, oh, no,
- 2:32one's going to attack me if i'm of course, they
- 2:34can attack you if.
- 2:35Speaker 2: You're on the phone.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yeah, what great talking to you tonight.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You're on your way here right now. But I applaud
- 2:45her for being standing up to this, and she said
- 2:49they didn't mean anything by it. But she's just like,
- 2:51I don't think guys think about these things like what. Yeah,
- 2:54we have to think about those things all the time.
- 2:56You guys can walk through a parking lot and it's
- 2:59not to say you weren't ever concerned for your safety,
- 3:01but it's not the same thing.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Not at all.
- 3:05Speaker 2: And and that's the that's the that's the fault of
- 3:09a lot of us, meant, is that we don't think
- 3:11about things other than from our own perspective, you know, because.
- 3:15Speaker 1: They were joking, isn't this silly thinking about your phone
- 3:18as a weapon. No, that's a real thing that women
- 3:21think about. How can I use this if I need to?
- 3:25Speaker 2: Which is why self defense classes might be something to
- 3:29think about.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm actually going to be doing ads coming up
- 3:32soon for a self defense course. I met with them
- 3:37last week and we're going to be talking a little
- 3:39bit more about that. I'm excited about it. I'm going
- 3:41to take the class with my daughter.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Are they going to teach you how to like disarm
- 3:48a gun of somebody who's so.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I think it's that kind of stuff. I'm excited about
- 3:56it so I don't have to think about or maybe
- 3:59they'll show me how to actually use my phone as
- 4:01a weapon.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I don't know, but this source eronan thing is a
- 4:05good example. I'm speaking to all of us white straight males.
- 4:10Think about other people for a change. We're okay, We're
- 4:14gonna be fine. Yeah, think about other people for a change.
- 4:18How about that? And I'm go vote tomorrow very.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Much so, very much so. Like I'm a nervous nelly,
- 4:26and I get scared at a lot of public scenarios
- 4:30that happen around me in general, even socially. But living
- 4:35with my wife, like since we got married, even though
- 4:38we've been together like ten years, it was very illuminating
- 4:41how much she thinks about it as opposed to me,
- 4:44because she takes out her hear ring and it's got
- 4:48you know, like the pepper spray and all that stuff
- 4:51on it. And I I never knew that other people
- 4:55thought about it that much.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And it's it's it's every woman has been has got
- 5:03that feeling that creepy and nothing has to come of it. No,
- 5:09it's like a sixth sense where you're in a parking
- 5:12lot and sometimes you're in a parking lot with with
- 5:15men and you don't get that feel. But every once
- 5:18in a while there's that guy following you just far
- 5:21enough away, and you think, can I get from here
- 5:26to my car inside and lock the door? Like how
- 5:29fast can I get there? Or how fast can I
- 5:32get into the building where I'm going?
- 5:35Speaker 2: And you know, here's another example. Why do you think
- 5:38we have a thing called an angel shot? You know,
- 5:40you know what that is.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I don't know what that is.
- 5:41Speaker 2: That's in a bar.
- 5:42Speaker 3: I do know what that is.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Actually, at a bar, you can go to the bartender
- 5:45if you feel creeped out by somebody that you're there
- 5:48with and ask for and and there's code. Different bars
- 5:52have different codes. But if you just ask for an
- 5:53angel shot, the bartender will go, oh, okay, you don't
- 5:56feel safe, let's take care of that.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And sometimes it'll be in the women's bathroom. They will
- 6:02have a list of if you're feeling if you want
- 6:06us to call the police, ask for this shot, if
- 6:08you just want us to keep an eye on things.
- 6:11Ask for this shot.
- 6:13Speaker 3: That's not foolproof though.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:15Speaker 2: No, Sue sent me this rugby star Yelona mar Oh yeah, yeah,
- 6:20she was the Olympic posted a video where she explained
- 6:22she was getting a pedicure and they were close to
- 6:26closing and a man came in and they kept telling her, no, no,
- 6:30your nails aren't dry.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Yet.
- 6:33Speaker 2: After he left, they told her we're keeping him. We
- 6:36kept you here long because there was something off about
- 6:39that guy. Yeah, so trust the feeling, ladies, trust the feeling.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And I appreciate Carrie saying, guys, just be aware.
- 6:48Speaker 2: That I say different people every election. I say this
- 6:55as a straight white male. I'm going to be fine
- 6:58think about other people. Cast your vote for other people,
- 7:02because we're gonna be fine do it for other people.
- 7:06Speaker 3: And I'd extend that a little bit in the sense
- 7:08that if you know your partner is maybe voting against
- 7:11your rights, that might be something to think about in
- 7:16the future. If you're canceling out your partner's vote,
