- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome back to the funky portion of the Greg Bell
- 0:11Speaker 1: Show Anderson Hurston. Today, we're getting funky with the music
- 0:16Speaker 1: here Thursday. Pretty good for a dad of a four
- 0:20Speaker 1: month old. Good job, appreciate that.
- 0:24Speaker 2: What do you expect baby music? What's that supposed to be?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Baby? What would baby music? One month old music would
- 0:31Speaker 1: be like Lula by.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I have no idea, yeah, something like that. He's too
- 0:34Speaker 3: young for blue right, yes, thank god?
- 0:39Speaker 1: You know.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I think he watches on my TV as sports right now.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Good for him.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Every single time the World Cup his game is on.
- 0:44Speaker 3: I pop him right in front of it. I sat
- 0:46Speaker 3: on the couch. We watched together.
- 0:47Speaker 1: A lot of powder blue and white stripes in his life, yes, well,
- 0:51Speaker 1: and a lot of green for the soccer field too.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Does he have an Argentine jersey? Does he have a
- 0:56Speaker 1: messy jersey?
- 0:57Speaker 3: He has an Argentina jersey, and he has a USA jersey.
- 1:00Speaker 3: He got gifted that when he was born, one for
- 1:03Speaker 3: each of his parents.
- 1:04Speaker 1: For those that don't know, Anderson Hurst married to a
- 1:07Speaker 1: native Argentinian. Yes, wedding was in Argentina. Yep. They are
- 1:10Speaker 1: going to be glued to their sets all the rest
- 1:12Speaker 1: of the tournament. Because the Argentina is going to be
- 1:14Speaker 1: playing for most of it, if not all of it, hope,
- 1:17Speaker 1: So I think that's a given.
- 1:19Speaker 2: What if USA plays Argentina, wow stage game? That would
- 1:23Speaker 2: be crazy.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Is it possible? There's there's Is it possible they play
- 1:27Speaker 1: Argentina in the around a sixteen.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Years No, I think they're on opposite side of the
- 1:30Speaker 3: bracket to be completely honest, So they would have to
- 1:32Speaker 3: face in the final, which could happen.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Let's go, come on.
- 1:37Speaker 1: If you missed it. The United States if they win
- 1:39Speaker 1: the round the thirty two match, which most likely almost
- 1:42Speaker 1: ninety nine percent chance is going to be against Bosnia
- 1:44Speaker 1: hers Guvina July first against in Santa Clara, will play
- 1:47Speaker 1: here in Seattle July sixth. The winner Bosnia hers Agovina
- 1:50Speaker 1: in the United States July one, we'll play here round
- 1:53Speaker 1: the sixteen, July sixth, at Lumenfield to get into the quarterfinals.
- 1:58Speaker 1: The United States just and do that. That's just doesn't happen.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But they also don't win their first two great group
- 2:04Speaker 1: stage matches.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And for those who are really planning ahead, if you're
- 2:07Speaker 3: looking at that round of sixteen game as of now,
- 2:10Speaker 3: the other round of thirty two game that would play
- 2:13Speaker 3: the winner of the US versus Bosnia is Egypt and
- 2:17Speaker 3: South Korea right now, so whoever wins that game would
- 2:19Speaker 3: play the United States in Seattle. If the United States wins,
- 2:23Speaker 3: of course that's now.
- 2:24Speaker 1: That can change tomorrow can absolutely Belgium wins.
- 2:27Speaker 2: That's why I said as of now correct, Yes, yes.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Belgium wins, and say Iran and in Egypt tie. Yeah
- 2:33Speaker 1: at eight pm they're gonna play at the same time
- 2:35Speaker 1: tomorrow eight pm tonight Tomorrow night in Seattle is when
- 2:38Speaker 1: Egypt and Irana playing Egypt wins, they win the group. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 1: by virtue of Belgium just steps.
- 2:44Speaker 2: They stuck this year.
- 2:45Speaker 3: WHOA. I was talking about this with Brad Evans last night,
- 2:48Speaker 3: who was doing the broadcast with me.
- 2:49Speaker 2: We did the Mexico Chechia game.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I was trying to think of teams that have like
- 2:53Speaker 3: the big teams that have because almost every World Cup
- 2:56Speaker 3: there's a big team that really underperforms, and there really
- 3:02Speaker 3: hasn't been one. The only one I could think of
- 3:04Speaker 3: was Belgium, and I don't even really consider them one
- 3:06Speaker 3: of the big teams. We're talking like that, the Germany, France, England, slowly.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Yeah they did, but they both looked fine in their
- 3:14Speaker 3: second game. It's all again, it's all about their third game.
- 3:16Speaker 3: But we'll see what ends up happening. But an opposite
- 3:19Speaker 3: with England, they look really good first game, it's off
- 3:21Speaker 3: in the second game against Ghana. So I mean, there
- 3:24Speaker 3: are a couple of teams that haven't looked as convincing
- 3:26Speaker 3: as you would have liked. But I one of the
- 3:29Speaker 3: great parts about this tournament is all the stars are
- 3:32Speaker 3: showing up and all the teams are playing well, and
- 3:35Speaker 3: it should be an absolute just fantastic knockout stage.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It's gonna be so much fun.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Anderson Hurst are soccer around with soccer fan player and everything.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Uh in a distribute. In my other job, I wrote
- 3:48Speaker 1: a story yesterday published yesterday morning about the Seahawks not
- 3:51Speaker 1: even being favored to win their own division, let the
- 3:53Speaker 1: long return to the Super Bowl because of the Rams.
- 3:58Speaker 1: In fact, Vegas Insider the Seahawks with the fourth best
- 4:01Speaker 1: Dodgs to win Super Bowl sixty one, also behind the
- 4:04Speaker 1: Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo bill What. Yeah, Now you know.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Professional athletes love this. They love slights, They love any
- 4:12Speaker 1: chip on shoulders. They can find they go make them
- 4:14Speaker 1: up somewhere.
- 4:15Speaker 3: When's the last time of defending Super Bowl champion? Who
- 4:18Speaker 3: take away the fact that they're bringing back almost their
- 4:20Speaker 3: entire team, when's the last time they were this not
- 4:24Speaker 3: favored him?
- 4:25Speaker 1: I would probably say that two thousand Baltimore Ravens off
- 4:27Speaker 1: at Trent Dilfer. Yeah, that would be my guess off
- 4:30Speaker 1: the top of my head. Which happens to be the
- 4:31Speaker 1: last Super Bowl champion featured on Hard Knocks. That was
- 4:35Speaker 1: the first Hard Knocks episode, right, and now twenty six
- 4:39Speaker 1: years later, the Seahawks will do the same as defending champions.
- 4:41Speaker 1: So I was talking about how people, the professional sports
- 4:44Speaker 1: athletes love to seek chips on their shoulders and motivation
- 4:47Speaker 1: they manufactured. They just make it up. Well, they're not
- 4:50Speaker 1: making it up. In Seahawks headquarters. Letter Williams was one
- 4:53Speaker 1: of the players last week at the mini camp who said, yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 1: we noticed that the Rams are favorite by everybody and
- 5:00Speaker 1: getting all the love this offseason. That's, of course the
- 5:02Speaker 1: Miles Garrett acquiring him and getting Trent McDuffie and paying
- 5:07Speaker 1: him the highest cornerback salary there is. Of course, they
- 5:10Speaker 1: lost Jared Verse in that this is what Lennard Williams
- 5:14Speaker 1: said quote, I think I'd be lying if I said
- 5:17Speaker 1: there wasn't a little extra motivation from hearing that type
- 5:20Speaker 1: of stuff being about the Rams being the favorites. There's
- 5:23Speaker 1: a little extra chip on our shoulder. You know, we
- 5:25Speaker 1: just came off a Super Bowl winning season and people
- 5:27Speaker 1: are still giving other people as favorites over us. I
- 5:32Speaker 1: will tell you this, the Seahawks coaches spent a lot
- 5:35Speaker 1: of time Seahawk Ram games weeks, the offensive coaches game
- 5:39Speaker 1: planning on how to block an account for Jared Verse,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and the fact that the Rams had to give up
- 5:44Speaker 1: Jared Verse to the Browns to get Miles Garrett is
- 5:48Speaker 1: not lost in renting. They understood that. Yes, the Rams
- 5:52Speaker 1: got better with Miles Garrett, but they got worse losing
- 5:55Speaker 1: Jared Verse, and that was a big part of the
- 5:58Speaker 1: Seahawks game plan. So, yes, the Rams probably gained on that.
- 6:03Speaker 1: But I think you can make the argument, and I
- 6:06Speaker 1: did in my story in the News Tribune the Seahawks
- 6:09Speaker 1: defense overall is still better than the Rams, and they
- 6:12Speaker 1: have a quarterback the Rams do it thirty eight. Matthew
- 6:14Speaker 1: Stafford is no guarantee he's going to have another MVP
- 6:17Speaker 1: type season because he may not stay healthy. You'll start
- 6:20Speaker 1: getting to be thirty eight years old and you're one
- 6:22Speaker 1: hit from not playing, and then what happens. So there
- 6:29Speaker 1: are yes on paper, But how many people win the
- 6:31Speaker 1: offseason and then don't do squad in the playoff in
- 6:34Speaker 1: the regular season. Happens all the time, all the time.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Why the games aren't in June and April and March.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So yes, the story is that the Rams are the favorites.
- 6:45Speaker 1: The Seahawks notice it. The Seahawks are playing it with
- 6:49Speaker 1: a chip on the should especially the veterans. And this
- 6:50Speaker 1: will be talked about all summer, including on Hard Knocks.
- 6:53Speaker 1: You'll watch it on your televisions. They'll talk about it.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And Jared Vers leaving the Rams was a big deal
- 6:59Speaker 1: for the Seahawk. They are glad to get him out
- 7:01Speaker 1: of the NFC West, in the NFC as a whole.
- 7:04Speaker 1: That stories at the neews Tribune dot com. Andrews when
- 7:07Speaker 1: I came in this morning, alerted me to the story
- 7:09Speaker 1: out of Portland that Tom Dundon, the Carolina Panthers Stanley
- 7:14Speaker 1: Cup winning owner also now the new owner of the
- 7:16Speaker 1: Portland Trail Blazers, wants a new arena. He wants a
- 7:20Speaker 1: six hundred million dollar new arena. He wants to pay
- 7:23Speaker 1: exactly zero dollars and no more cents for that arena.
- 7:27Speaker 1: He wants it to be private. If I'm misrepresenting the story,
- 7:30Speaker 1: tell me he wants it to be entirely publicly funded
- 7:34Speaker 1: in Oregon. Yeah, does he know where he is? If
- 7:40Speaker 1: anyone's been to Portland once, you would realize that that
- 7:43Speaker 1: ain't gonna fly. No for an envy for a basketball
- 7:46Speaker 1: team at Portland. I know the Blazers in their history
- 7:50Speaker 1: in Rip City and Bill Walton, Yes, I know all
- 7:53Speaker 1: of that, but it's fricking Portland, Oregon. There is no
- 7:56Speaker 1: way that, no way that the people in the government
- 7:59Speaker 1: and the elect officials and anybody is going to go
- 8:02Speaker 1: for an entirely publicly funded arena. And let's face it,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I mean, the Rose Garden isn't the greatest arena in
- 8:08Speaker 1: the world, but any motor it's the Moda Center Now.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I know it used to be the Rose Garden, I
- 8:13Speaker 1: called the Rose. It's a great place to watch a
- 8:15Speaker 1: basketball game. I've covered NCAA tournament games in there. It
- 8:18Speaker 1: is great. It's cool, it's not ancient and decrepit and
- 8:21Speaker 1: needing ripped up. In fact, last time I was there,
- 8:25Speaker 1: the Memorial Coliseum still exists next door because the winter Hawks,
- 8:28Speaker 1: the minor league team, were playing it right, so they went.
- 8:33Speaker 1: So if Tom Dundon gets his way, let's get this straight,
- 8:36Speaker 1: the city of Portland would have the Memorial Coliseum with
- 8:40Speaker 1: the winter Hawks play next door to the Rose Garden
- 8:43Speaker 1: Moda Center where the Blazers just moved out of. To
- 8:45Speaker 1: move into a third arena that would cost six hundred
- 8:49Speaker 1: million dollars and the owner may pays none of it.
- 8:52Speaker 3: So let me slightly adjust that. This is to renovate
- 8:56Speaker 3: the Moda Center. They wouldn't build a new one.
- 8:58Speaker 1: They wouldn't tear it down to the Stone's at six
- 9:00Speaker 1: hundred million. I don't know, but this is it wouldn't
- 9:03Speaker 1: be want six hundred million dollars in renovations.
- 9:06Speaker 3: It wouldn't be a thirds okay, so there wouldn't be
- 9:09Speaker 3: a third standing building. It would be the Modi Center still.
- 9:11Speaker 3: But my thought is kind of what happened with Kyarina
- 9:15Speaker 3: turning into Climate Pledge everything but the roof, correct, but
- 9:19Speaker 3: like you're not moving it or you're not okay.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Yeah, So two structures six hundred million dollars with the
- 9:26Speaker 1: owner who makes millions upon billions each year getting none
- 9:30Speaker 1: of giving none of it in Oregon, that's unbelievable. Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 1: this I hear you. I don't even have to look
- 9:39Speaker 1: at the text line to hear you that this is
- 9:41Speaker 1: what people fear when they say, who are going to
- 9:43Speaker 1: buy the Seahawks? Who are going to be the new
- 9:46Speaker 1: owners of the Sonics? What kind of owners are you
- 9:49Speaker 1: going to come in here? Seth Wickersham of course flow
- 9:51Speaker 1: to the idea that a new owner would want a
- 9:53Speaker 1: new Seahawks stadium. This, yous don't need a new stadium.
- 9:56Speaker 1: They need a new grass field, get rid of the turf.
- 9:58Speaker 1: They don't need a new stadium. And it's not necessarily
- 10:03Speaker 1: true that a new owner is automatically going to ask
- 10:05Speaker 1: for that. Now, they may and probably will ask for
- 10:07Speaker 1: upgrades and more luxury seating, which the Seahawks and Luminfield
- 10:11Speaker 1: have added in the last couple of years, field level seating,
- 10:14Speaker 1: tunnel suites and whatnot. But it does matter who buys
- 10:19Speaker 1: the team. Yes, for this reason, if you get a
- 10:21Speaker 1: Tom Dundon who won't even buy pulls T shirts off
- 10:25Speaker 1: the seats, because in the playoff games, because I don't
- 10:27Speaker 1: want to spend money, and he doesn't want to put
- 10:29Speaker 1: injured players and travel party usual employees on the planes
- 10:34Speaker 1: for because he wants to save a few bucks. That
- 10:36Speaker 1: does matter. That's the kind of stuff that a new
- 10:38Speaker 1: owner could do. I've said this, I've talked about a
- 10:42Speaker 1: couple of times. There is a big whale, and I'm
- 10:45Speaker 1: not ready to discuss who it is out there, who
- 10:49Speaker 1: is very hyper Seattle, who would allay those fears, who
- 10:53Speaker 1: is laying in wait to buy the Seahawks. That's all
- 10:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna say about that. It's somewhat I would not
- 11:01Speaker 1: write that it's supposition, and it's somewhat irresponsible as a
- 11:03Speaker 1: journalist to do that. I'm just going to tell you
- 11:06Speaker 1: there's some whale out there that would allay those fears,
- 11:09Speaker 1: and it would be hyper local and would not do that.
- 11:11Speaker 1: And I definitely would not put six hundred million dollars
- 11:14Speaker 1: worth of renovations on the taxpayers of Washington State in Seattle.
- 11:17Speaker 1: That would not happen with this guy I'm talking about. Anyway.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Let's see how that goes for Tom Dundan in Portland.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it's for those in Seattle who are thinking, man,
- 11:29Speaker 3: I've seen this before, you have. This is exactly what
- 11:32Speaker 3: happened to the Sonics.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Right, this is Clay Bennett. Yes, this is let's ask
- 11:36Speaker 1: for the world, make the public pay for it until
- 11:38Speaker 1: they say get out of here. That's what happened. Now
- 11:41Speaker 1: you can go back one step before that. It's Howard
- 11:44Speaker 1: Schultz who sold it to a guy who he knew
- 11:46Speaker 1: was going to do that.
- 11:47Speaker 2: And does that happen with Portland as well?
- 11:51Speaker 1: There are some people around the NBA who believe the
- 11:55Speaker 1: NBA this is from the faction of owners we talk
- 11:58Speaker 1: remember yesterday, it's Tim Reynolds, the AP writer for the
- 12:01Speaker 1: Associated Press base in Miami, says there is still a
- 12:03Speaker 1: faction of owners who don't want to expand because they
- 12:05Speaker 1: want to keep that thirty piece pie instead of thirty
- 12:08Speaker 1: two pieces on the league revenue in the media, right.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Even with expansion fees.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Well that's the offset, right, right. But the argument there
- 12:16Speaker 1: is that's a one time books lump sum paymvest it.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Of course it's ten billion dollars or eight billion, that's
- 12:24Speaker 1: quite a lump sum. There are many lump sums that
- 12:26Speaker 1: show up at eight billion dollars, right, six billion dollars.
- 12:30Speaker 1: So you talk about lump sum, it's a relative term.
- 12:32Speaker 1: But yes, the argument is that's a lump sum in
- 12:35Speaker 1: where the thirty two versus thirty sharing the media rates
- 12:38Speaker 1: pie is an annual payment.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Right, But then wouldn't you get more revenue because you
- 12:42Speaker 3: have two more markets.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I feel like it's a pretty easy trade off.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Of course you would. Yes. So there are some people
- 12:49Speaker 1: who in the NBA, among the circles, who don't want
- 12:51Speaker 1: to expand, who say, let's just have Tom Dundan move
- 12:55Speaker 1: the Blazers to Seattle. Let's have this Clay Bennet like
- 13:00Speaker 1: arena situation go on in Portland until the people of
- 13:03Speaker 1: Oregon and Portland say, hell no, get the hell out
- 13:06Speaker 1: of here. We're not paying six hundred million dollars in
- 13:09Speaker 1: taxpayer money to your new arena, which is not that
- 13:13Speaker 1: old to begin with. Now, Key Arena was a different
- 13:16Speaker 1: case that was outdated, much more so than the Mota Center.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Is didn't have luxury seating concourses, the parking, the trucks,
- 13:23Speaker 1: the too steep coming in for concerts that limited the
- 13:27Speaker 1: ability to have other events that would make money. All
- 13:29Speaker 1: of that. Yes, I get that, but at its surface,
- 13:32Speaker 1: this is a Clay Bennett type move, which worked for
- 13:35Speaker 1: Clay Bennett in the Oklahoma City thunder. Obviously you don't
- 13:38Speaker 1: have to reminded people see out of that, but there
- 13:41Speaker 1: are some people that think that could be in play,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and that instead of expanding that the Blazers become the Sonics.
- 13:48Speaker 1: That would be unbelievable, But then again, the Sonics being
- 13:52Speaker 1: in Oklahoma City is pretty damn unbelievable too. Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I do think that there wouldn't be as much talk
- 13:59Speaker 3: with expansion amongst Adam Silver if it wasn't very far
- 14:03Speaker 3: down the line. Including now we got yesterday the news
- 14:07Speaker 3: about the bidding for the Las Vegas team as well,
- 14:11Speaker 3: so that.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Kind of guys right by the owners of the Golden
- 14:15Speaker 1: Knights were owned by a West Point graduate by the way.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Which by all you know, you know signs, was kind
- 14:22Speaker 3: of the thing holding it up.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Seattle's ready.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Vegas has to figure their yeah crap out, right, So
- 14:29Speaker 3: they finally did, and now it's like, all right, we
- 14:32Speaker 3: can kind of start to move on with this thing.
- 14:34Speaker 3: I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility
- 14:36Speaker 3: that Portland moves, but I don't think it's very very
- 14:40Speaker 3: low that it moves to Seattle. I could see them
- 14:42Speaker 3: moving to like a Nashville or something like that, but
- 14:44Speaker 3: I don't know. It's it's interesting because now the whole
- 14:47Speaker 3: the other thing is the realignment question. Because there's two
- 14:50Speaker 3: Western Conference teams coming in, You're going to have to
- 14:53Speaker 3: move someone to the east.
- 14:54Speaker 1: What if that's Portland, Well, you literally move, That's what
- 14:58Speaker 1: I mean. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. There is
- 15:01Speaker 1: a legacy and a tradition in Portland that absolutely there
- 15:04Speaker 1: are no absolutely fight to keep it there.
- 15:06Speaker 2: But I'm not advocating for that.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I'm just looking at the reality of that might be
- 15:11Speaker 3: a possibility.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Correct four to five on the Tacomadads text line four
- 15:14Speaker 1: nine four five one. The forty five brings up a
- 15:16Speaker 1: very good point. If Jody Allen is willing to sell
- 15:19Speaker 1: the Blazers to this clown, meaning Tom Dundan, is that
- 15:23Speaker 1: out of the realm of possibility to consider the same
- 15:26Speaker 1: can happen to the Seahawks. Jody Allen is by chair
- 15:30Speaker 1: of the Paul G. Allen Trust, her late brother. The
- 15:33Speaker 1: chair is the one selling the team, but her responsibility
- 15:36Speaker 1: is to sell it to the highest bidder. Now, I
- 15:39Speaker 1: am frankly not as well versed in the Blazers sale
- 15:42Speaker 1: to know if Tom Dunnan was the highest bidder.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I don't know if he was either.
- 15:47Speaker 1: But the terms that I understand, I haven't seen the
- 15:51Speaker 1: Will and Paul g Allen Trust instructions on selling the
- 15:55Speaker 1: Blazers and Seahawks. Sorry, they didn't just hand that to
- 15:57Speaker 1: me and say, Bell, you can go read this on
- 15:59Speaker 1: your spare time. That's a closely guarded secret. But the
- 16:02Speaker 1: understanding is that they are obligated by the Trust, by
- 16:06Speaker 1: Paul g Allen's wishes to sell to the highest bid
- 16:08Speaker 1: or so they can maximize the profit to the philanthropic
- 16:13Speaker 1: different the Trust is selling the teams for philanthropic enginry.
- 16:16Speaker 1: In fact, not just the teams, but everything, his space exploration,
- 16:20Speaker 1: his CEA exploration, all of it, the music collection, all
- 16:24Speaker 1: of the things that he is liquidating out of his
- 16:26Speaker 1: estate is supposed to go to philanthropic. The revenue goes
- 16:30Speaker 1: to the philanthropies he has.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, the only thing that makes me think
- 16:37Speaker 3: that wouldn't be a possibility with the Seahawks is the
- 16:41Speaker 3: fact that the NFL.
- 16:42Speaker 2: I don't think the.
- 16:43Speaker 3: NFL would allow someone like Tom Dundan to even think
- 16:46Speaker 3: about owning one of their precious thirty two franchise.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And that is a great point because the NFL, unlike
- 16:51Speaker 1: the NBA. The NBA has a proliferation of owners. Some
- 16:54Speaker 1: of them are hedge fund people, some of them are
- 16:59Speaker 1: venture capitalist, which the NFL just recently allowed to be
- 17:02Speaker 1: a part of percent minority stake of ownership venture capital money.
- 17:06Speaker 1: But there is a much more of a disparate collection
- 17:11Speaker 1: of owners and sub owners and minority owners the NFL.
- 17:15Speaker 1: And as you bring up a good point, they have
- 17:16Speaker 1: a good old boy network. Oh yeah, they have who
- 17:19Speaker 1: they want and by and larte, with the exception of
- 17:22Speaker 1: the Jacksonville Jaguars owner who's based in London. They have
- 17:25Speaker 1: a good old boy network of old white guys. Fifty five,
- 17:30Speaker 1: sixty five, seventy five year old, rich white guys own
- 17:32Speaker 1: NFL teams and they want that. They want league meetings
- 17:35Speaker 1: to be a meeting of good old boys, of billionaires
- 17:38Speaker 1: who all think and act the same. They are closely
- 17:42Speaker 1: guarded on who they bring in. Now you say, well,
- 17:45Speaker 1: Jody Allen can sell to whoever she wants, they'd have
- 17:47Speaker 1: to sell it. Good old Boys, true, but who has
- 17:50Speaker 1: to approve that sale?
- 17:51Speaker 2: Correct?
- 17:52Speaker 1: The other thirty one league owners have to approve that sale.
- 17:54Speaker 1: You just can't sell a team to anyone and expected
- 17:57Speaker 1: to get approved. So the NFL does have a say here,
- 18:00Speaker 1: But Jody Allen has it from what I understand, and
- 18:02Speaker 1: coming upon her to sell to the highest bidder so
- 18:05Speaker 1: that she can have the most money to go to
- 18:07Speaker 1: philanthropic interest of her brother. This whale I'm talking about
- 18:11Speaker 1: will take care of all of this, and he would.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Check both boxes.
- 18:14Speaker 1: And this is someone the NFL wish they had in
- 18:17Speaker 1: their group decades ago. I can tell you that. So
- 18:20Speaker 1: this may play itself out where those fears will be unfounded.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I hear you, though, there's it's not hard to draw
- 18:27Speaker 1: that line. And if the Blazers went to Tom Dundon,
- 18:30Speaker 1: what's going to happen to the Seahawks? We will see.
- 18:33Speaker 1: People have asked me all week in the Tech all
- 18:34Speaker 1: month on the text sign. I have not heard anything
- 18:36Speaker 1: new on the sale of the Seahawks other than now
- 18:38Speaker 1: there are multiple bidders, which is what they wanted, and
- 18:42Speaker 1: that potentially the guy who the owner, the new owner
- 18:45Speaker 1: may potentially be waiting until all those bids sort themselves
- 18:48Speaker 1: out so he doesn't outbid himself by bidding too early.
- 18:52Speaker 1: If you follow what I'm trying to see there, Yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 1: next your chance to be a part of the show,
- 18:56Speaker 1: and that Takoma Toadge text line just read back a
- 18:58Speaker 1: good one from the four to two five. We have
- 18:59Speaker 1: a couple of including what to do or how concerned
- 19:02Speaker 1: you are with Brian Wu. You're part of the show.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Next to Nel Jonas, tell us what he's doing. From
- 19:06Speaker 1: twelve until three on ninety three point three kJ RFM,
- 19:21Speaker 1: Welcome back Greg bo Anderson Hurst with the Live on
- 19:25Speaker 1: ninety three point three KJRFM. We've talked about Brian Wu.
- 19:28Speaker 1: You heard from him. We talked about Tom Dunnan and
- 19:32Speaker 1: the Blazers asking for six hundred million dollars in upgrades
- 19:35Speaker 1: to the Rose Garden that probably doesn't need a tenth
- 19:37Speaker 1: of that and ask him for the public to pay
- 19:40Speaker 1: all of it. Didn't talk about Kaitlyn Carr getting her
- 19:44Speaker 1: neck pounded into the floor in the WNBA. There's definitely
- 19:50Speaker 1: something against Kaitlyn Clark by some players. Anyway, four nine,
- 19:54Speaker 1: four to five wanted to come a Dodge text on
- 19:55Speaker 1: you know what time it is? The music means it's
- 19:57Speaker 1: time to you to be a part of the show. Show.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I owe you a keyword too. Who happen to have that?
- 20:03Speaker 2: That's right? Let me grab it for you.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Hold on chance. When twenty five hundred dollars each day
- 20:09Speaker 1: at eight am, eleven am, two pm, and five pm
- 20:11Speaker 1: on our two thousand, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars
- 20:13Speaker 1: USA giveaway at nine three three KJR dot com. We
- 20:19Speaker 1: do it every weekday. We get twenty five hundred dollars.
- 20:22Speaker 1: The words over it's like the same six words. So
- 20:25Speaker 1: the roulette what pulls up for the same six words today?
- 20:29Speaker 1: I'm looking give me two seconds, okay. Pirates. The Mariners
- 20:34Speaker 1: have the Pirates where they want to I'm a Pirates fan.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I still grew up live outside of Pittsburgh. Lived outside
- 20:39Speaker 1: of Pittsburgh growing up the Pirates bullpen stinks. They can't
- 20:43Speaker 1: throw strikes. So all I'm going to say about I'm
- 20:45Speaker 1: not trying to give away this. I'm just going to
- 20:47Speaker 1: tell you that the Mariners have the Pirates where they
- 20:49Speaker 1: want them. Good, We'll see where it goes. Two o
- 20:56Speaker 1: six must be a parent, guys. Blue is the most
- 20:58Speaker 1: amazing show on television and I'm forty nine years old.
- 21:01Speaker 1: My kids watched it for many years when they were younger.
- 21:04Speaker 1: That is extremely in depth, meaningful and loving, high quality show.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I agree, Blue is the song alone?
- 21:09Speaker 2: Is that sarcastic?
- 21:11Speaker 1: I think it's really good. It's New Zealand or Australia.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I think it's Australian. Okay, it's an Australian show.
- 21:16Speaker 3: I do have your cash contest word. By the way,
- 21:19Speaker 3: the word is wait for it, cash, oh oh ceish cash?
- 21:24Speaker 3: To spell it from Greg? I should know how.
- 21:26Speaker 1: To might spell with a K. I don't know if
- 21:29Speaker 1: you spell with a K. I guess you won't win
- 21:31Speaker 1: twenty five on at all?
- 21:31Speaker 3: Well not and remember, don't text it in. I have
- 21:34Speaker 3: to tell people this every single time.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Go to the website nine three kJ dot com.
- 21:39Speaker 2: That's exactly what it is.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Yes, I appreciate the blue thanks to us. Yeah, I do.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I'm not really looking forward to that phase.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Well, they don't have to. I mean watch television sports.
- 21:54Speaker 2: We'll watch sports. There you go, that's what we're doing.
- 21:55Speaker 1: There you go. Yeah. Four is only soccer would have
- 22:00Speaker 1: a meaningless playoff game. This is not a playoff playoff game.
- 22:03Speaker 1: It's still a group stage game. It's a Week eighteen.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Game exactly, and there's happened.
- 22:06Speaker 3: It's a great comparison, Greg, there are many meaningless Week
- 22:10Speaker 3: eighteen in NFL.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Games, which quite a few actually, Yes really for two vices,
- 22:15Speaker 1: really wish Paul would have just left the team to
- 22:17Speaker 1: his sister. He did and he didn't. But yes, the
- 22:19Speaker 1: trust still owns the team Paul. Jody Allen is the
- 22:23Speaker 1: chair of that trust, so she technically is just the
- 22:26Speaker 1: chair of the team, the trust the overseas.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 3: The thing about the Tom Dundan comments that really get
- 22:32Speaker 3: me are his reasoning for asking for public funding and
- 22:36Speaker 3: he quotes that I'm going to get the exact quote.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Hold on just a second, so I want to make
- 22:42Speaker 2: sure I get this right.
- 22:43Speaker 3: It feels like we're making a pretty big investment by
- 22:46Speaker 3: staying here and paying these tax rates. The billionaires said,
- 22:53Speaker 3: So this has very Jerry Depoto, we're doing the fan
- 22:56Speaker 3: base of favor vibes.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Every time he buys something, he doesn't pay a dime
- 23:01Speaker 1: in tax in Oregon. There's no sales tax in Oregon,
- 23:04Speaker 1: so he's not getting tax as much as he could.
- 23:08Speaker 1: He said, come taxes high because he's a billionaire that
- 23:11Speaker 1: could be part of the rejoic God Two six. Could
- 23:14Speaker 1: the Seattle Stadium be upgraded by taking out the hawks
- 23:16Speaker 1: Nest and closing it with more seats than skyboxes, meaning
- 23:18Speaker 1: on the downtown side that has the open side, it's
- 23:21Speaker 1: more like a bowl. Then it would be a more
- 23:23Speaker 1: of enclosed bowl. Would hate to see that. But if
- 23:26Speaker 1: you want upgrades question marks, Well, I can't see him
- 23:29Speaker 1: redoing the hawks Nest because they just did they the
- 23:32Speaker 1: World Cup. FIFA did not want metal seatbacks in their
- 23:37Speaker 1: stadiums and so they made him put chair backs into
- 23:40Speaker 1: the hawks Net. Remember, the hawks Nest used to be
- 23:43Speaker 1: the old Kingdome metal seats, and that was the one
- 23:47Speaker 1: remnant of the Kingdom from which those of you who
- 23:49Speaker 1: just came to Seattle or just born a couple of
- 23:51Speaker 1: days ago. The Kingdome used to be on the site
- 23:54Speaker 1: that is now mostly the North parking lot, but the
- 23:56Speaker 1: site that is now lumin Field and the North stands
- 24:00Speaker 1: were the metal bleachers from the Kingdom. Well, the World
- 24:03Speaker 1: Cup has changed that FIFA required seatbacks, so now the
- 24:07Speaker 1: Hawksess has been remodeled with seatbacks, and in fact they're
- 24:10Speaker 1: painted so that the Seahawks logos an the eye of
- 24:13Speaker 1: the Hawk is the backs of the seats.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I think it's pretty cool.
- 24:17Speaker 1: It is. You can't see it on television because those
- 24:19Speaker 1: seats are completely full because the stadium is sold out
- 24:21Speaker 1: for the World Cup match. But I don't see him
- 24:25Speaker 1: ripping up the place. They just remodeled. But it's a
- 24:27Speaker 1: new owner now. The Seahawks don't own the stadium. A
- 24:31Speaker 1: public stadium authority owns the stadium.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Hours Tom Dundon weird weird.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Anyway, by the way, Jim yesterday and the text line
- 24:42Speaker 1: told us that the Seahawks raised their ticket prices six
- 24:44Speaker 1: hundred dollars per season ticket in the Hawk's nest because
- 24:47Speaker 1: of those seatbacks.
- 24:49Speaker 3: And because they're six hundred for the whole season. Yeah,
- 24:51Speaker 3: per ticket, per ticket, So is that he said twelve.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Hundred, But it was per two seats he.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Said, okay, So then that's divided by eight home games.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah, or eight or nine?
- 25:01Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 2: I don't know how many they have next year. Actually
- 25:04Speaker 2: they made on nine.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Andy O the two O six says it's the wrong word.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Come on, Greg, it's not the wrong word. What he said,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I got it. Two Fight three said that word is
- 25:14Speaker 1: wrong if it was Caitlin Clark two Fight three said
- 25:17Speaker 1: I would take my endorsement money and just retire from
- 25:20Speaker 1: the w NBA. They clearly don't want her. Screw them.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Rod from the two o six wants to know, do
- 25:26Speaker 1: you prefer peanut or Eminem's or plane Eminems. I used
- 25:30Speaker 1: to say peanut, but recently I've scarfed more playing eminems
- 25:35Speaker 1: than peanut. That's a good question. Actually, can that define
- 25:39Speaker 1: you as a person, that's a good question.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Ah, I did. I did give the wrong word. That's
- 25:44Speaker 3: my apologies. I put him on the spot, my fault,
- 25:48Speaker 3: that's my He's got a four year old, four month
- 25:50Speaker 3: old and give him a break. I found out I
- 25:52Speaker 3: was doing the show last night because you know so
- 25:55Speaker 3: how it goes in this business.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Liberty, liberty, justice for all, Yes, liberty and justice for all.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Because cash actually was not in my staple of five
- 26:05Speaker 1: rotating words.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I had the wrong cash contest uh.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Sheet Liberty, which is probably the word two days ago.
- 26:12Speaker 1: It's a word again at eleven o'clock liberty, L I
- 26:14Speaker 1: B E R T Y in case you need to
- 26:16Speaker 1: spell that r hi.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Guys, that's my fault, not Greg's.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Peanut, M and M's Guy Rod says, what do you
- 26:23Speaker 1: think of sending down Wood to Tacoma for a few
- 26:25Speaker 1: weeks and bringing up Anderson in his place? No, I
- 26:30Speaker 1: don't think you should put Brian Wood down. But no,
- 26:32Speaker 1: that would piss him off. He's already pissed it himself.
- 26:35Speaker 1: But the question about Anderson, I think Andrews is gonna
- 26:39Speaker 1: come up in September and they're just going to put
- 26:41Speaker 1: the best thirteen dudes in their pitching roster for the playoffs. Look,
- 26:45Speaker 1: they're going to win the West. This is all funning games,
- 26:48Speaker 1: but the trash cans, the a's and the rink. Come on,
- 26:51Speaker 1: they're gonna win the West. They're just gonna have to
- 26:53Speaker 1: right themselves to win in the playoffs. But they have
- 26:56Speaker 1: a pitching staff to do it. And I think you
- 26:57Speaker 1: just bring all your best pitchers. If it's Kate Anderson,
- 26:59Speaker 1: if Anderson double a fine, bring them all up, sort
- 27:04Speaker 1: him out for the playoffs. Right, That's what I would do. Well.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Chris Crawford has mentioned this a couple of times on
- 27:09Speaker 3: Maliwa Monday, and I actually really like this suggestion. Compare
- 27:13Speaker 3: it to what David Price did when he first came
- 27:18Speaker 3: up for the Tampa Bay Rays. He was a very
- 27:20Speaker 3: highly touted prospect, same kind of you know, a situation
- 27:25Speaker 3: leftan pitcher as well, by the way he came up
- 27:28Speaker 3: and for the playoffs specifically, he was like kind of
- 27:30Speaker 3: a yes, long reliever, but high leverage long reliever sort
- 27:36Speaker 3: of situation where he comes in in like the sixth
- 27:39Speaker 3: inning and he can take you the rest away, right right.
- 27:42Speaker 1: It's old school reliever. That's what they used to do.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Piggyback that it's kind of what it is, but a
- 27:49Speaker 3: guy you could do that bolt against in any situation, right,
- 27:52Speaker 3: and then that way, because the reason why they're not
- 27:55Speaker 3: rushing to have this happen is a because they have
- 27:58Speaker 3: in their eyes six starting pitchers that they feel very
- 28:01Speaker 3: comfortable with, and be because they need to limit his innings.
- 28:05Speaker 3: He pitched a lot in college, he didn't pitch it
- 28:08Speaker 3: all after they drafted him last year, and he if
- 28:12Speaker 3: you look at his game log this year, he's only
- 28:15Speaker 3: going four or five innings every single time, no matter
- 28:18Speaker 3: how dominant he is. They're trying to limit his innings. Yes, right,
- 28:21Speaker 3: So if you want to do that and not have
- 28:24Speaker 3: him have a full on starters workload when he comes up,
- 28:27Speaker 3: David price roll. I actually, I think that's a really
- 28:30Speaker 3: good kind of balance. That way, you don't necessarily have
- 28:33Speaker 3: to trade one of your starters to get this done.
- 28:36Speaker 3: You could have two piggyback guys, right if it's cast
- 28:39Speaker 3: to you or.
- 28:39Speaker 1: They got a trade cast to you. This whole piggyback
- 28:42Speaker 1: is just to keep him marketable to trade as a starter.
- 28:44Speaker 1: And if they don't do it after doing this whole piggyback,
- 28:46Speaker 1: then they have failed. They got a trade him at
- 28:49Speaker 1: this point, and why else do this?
- 28:50Speaker 3: I I think he has more value to the Mariners
- 28:54Speaker 3: than he does on the trade market.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Not if he keeps starting though, a starting pitcher with
- 28:59Speaker 1: his pedigree and his salary would go straight into some
- 29:02Speaker 1: contender's rotation.
- 29:03Speaker 3: That wouldn't get you anything back unfortunately. Either that or
- 29:07Speaker 3: you're eating a bunch of salary.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Well, they may have to get some of that money.
- 29:10Speaker 1: That's true, they'd have to eat some.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Of that money, which I don't think they'll do.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I'm going to say something that will floor perhaps you
- 29:16Speaker 1: and a lot of others. On June fourteenth, nineteen seventy four,
- 29:20Speaker 1: Nolan Ryan through thirteen complete innings against the Boston Red
- 29:25Speaker 1: Sox he's threw two hundred and thirty five pitches. Yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: in one game, thirteen innings, Nolan Ryan. He didn't need
- 29:35Speaker 1: load management and limited innings freaking Hall of Fame or
- 29:38Speaker 1: it was six no.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Hitters, different game, different era, is it?
- 29:42Speaker 1: Yes? Is it?
- 29:44Speaker 2: Yes?
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yeah? Okay, he's through pretty damn hard. I don't think
- 29:50Speaker 1: it's that different. It's become different because they've made it different.
- 29:53Speaker 1: The ball is still round, the pitcher still throws from
- 29:56Speaker 1: sixty feet six inches.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Yes, but they the examples of the Nolan Ryan's. There's
- 30:01Speaker 3: also I'm sure a lot of examples that you don't
- 30:04Speaker 3: know about where pitchers careers were cut massively short, of course,
- 30:08Speaker 3: but trying to avoid that from happening as much as possible,
- 30:11Speaker 3: of course, And I.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Get it, sure, But what I'm saying is the kid
- 30:15Speaker 1: gloves treatment. You don't have to do it to the
- 30:17Speaker 1: extreme that teams do it, including the Mariners. You don't
- 30:20Speaker 1: have to. You're choosing to as a choice and a strategy,
- 30:23Speaker 1: and so far, so good, at least in making the playoffs.
- 30:27Speaker 1: We'll see how this works out this year. But you
- 30:29Speaker 1: don't have to do it. They're doing it as a choice,
- 30:33Speaker 1: and it's a modern.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Choice, and almost every team does it.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I'm I'm not saying they don't. I'm just saying you
- 30:39Speaker 1: don't have to if it's the choice.
- 30:41Speaker 3: I tend to think if people if there was really
- 30:45Speaker 3: any question whether they should be doing it, there would
- 30:47Speaker 3: be more teams that don't.
- 30:48Speaker 2: But every team.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I don't know about that, because everybody subscribes to the
- 30:51Speaker 1: same analytics iPad baseball now everyone plays by the same rules.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Everyone does analytics. Everybody does. We don't see, we don't buy.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Everyone plays the same way. But it's a choice. It's
- 31:03Speaker 1: not just well, this is the way a game is.
- 31:05Speaker 1: The way the game is is because that's how teams
- 31:07Speaker 1: have chosen to go about it. That's the approach of
- 31:09Speaker 1: the year.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Sure, But there are more teams that use it more
- 31:12Speaker 3: and differently than other teams.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Again, I'm not saying that's not true. I'm just saying
- 31:15Speaker 1: that is still a choice. You can always do the
- 31:17Speaker 1: other thing, but no one's doing the other thing. No
- 31:20Speaker 1: one's keeping guys in for nine innings, no one's keeping
- 31:22Speaker 1: guys in for one hundred and twenty pitches. But you could,
- 31:24Speaker 1: and it has happened, and it's happened successfully in the past.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Just teams don't do it anymore because that's the choice
- 31:30Speaker 1: they make that that's not the right smart way to
- 31:32Speaker 1: do it. There will be a team sometimes, some way
- 31:35Speaker 1: that will go back to the old school. They will. Yeah,
- 31:37Speaker 1: I don't know when that's gonna be, but that's what's
- 31:40Speaker 1: gonna happen. It'll happen. It'll happen sometime.
- 31:43Speaker 2: I don't think it will.
- 31:44Speaker 1: It could happen in the May. It could happen in
- 31:45Speaker 1: the postseason. You could have a dude stay in for
- 31:47Speaker 1: nine innings if he's shove it. It may not happen
- 31:50Speaker 1: this year, but there will be a team sometime in
- 31:52Speaker 1: twenty years from now. Perhaps. I don't. People never thought
- 31:56Speaker 1: bell Bottoms would come back either. I'm just telling you
- 31:58Speaker 1: that it's a choice, like, you can't do it. It's
- 32:01Speaker 1: just that no one does.
- 32:02Speaker 2: It's because it's stupid, too, is it.
- 32:05Speaker 1: That's modern thinking that necessarily that's not necessarily makes it
- 32:09Speaker 1: up true. It just means that that's currently what everyone thinks.
- 32:12Speaker 1: That's my point. That's true of life. Just because everyone's
- 32:14Speaker 1: doing something doesn't mean that's right. It's all the smartest
- 32:17Speaker 1: people that are are they? Yeah, are the mariners just
- 32:20Speaker 1: doing the smartest thing. Are they doing what they have
- 32:22Speaker 1: decided to add hereby the piggyback? Is that the smartest
- 32:25Speaker 1: thing to do? Exact what they've decided to do.
- 32:27Speaker 3: It being back separate from keeping pictures healthy and not
- 32:30Speaker 3: throwing them out there for thirteen innings and two hundred
- 32:32Speaker 3: and thirty five?
- 32:33Speaker 1: Is taking Brycemeller out after four innings? Yes?
- 32:37Speaker 2: It keeps them healthy? Yes?
- 32:39Speaker 1: Right? Is that the best thing? The smartest thing?
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 32:42Speaker 3: I mean, I say, depends on what you think the
- 32:45Speaker 3: smartest thing. I say no, but you say yes, you
- 32:47Speaker 3: don't want to keep your players healthy?
- 32:48Speaker 1: I want them to shove for more than four innings.
- 32:51Speaker 1: That's what I want them to do. They're major league pictures.
- 32:53Speaker 1: They grew up pitching more than four innings and sixty pitches,
- 32:56Speaker 1: did it all the time. Now, all of a sudden
- 32:58Speaker 1: they get the major leagues and you can't pitch more
- 33:00Speaker 1: than five innings.
- 33:00Speaker 3: I just logically think if it were that easy, just
- 33:04Speaker 3: to be like, oh, why don't we just throw them
- 33:06Speaker 3: out there for more? If they're pitching, really will? Every
- 33:08Speaker 3: team would do it? They ever used to do it, sorry,
- 33:11Speaker 3: and they don't it anymore. There's a reason for that,
- 33:13Speaker 3: but there's a reason that was done before. It is
- 33:15Speaker 3: Mubbet point.
- 33:16Speaker 1: And just because it's already because people are choosing to
- 33:18Speaker 1: do it now, doesn't mean it was wrong. Then. It
- 33:20Speaker 1: means that this is the way teams are doing it now.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Because they they have more information.
- 33:25Speaker 1: People used to play four to three defenses in football,
- 33:27Speaker 1: Now they mostly play three four. It doesn't mean the
- 33:29Speaker 1: four three is wrong. It means that's the trend. People
- 33:31Speaker 1: used to run the ball to eye formation doesn't mean
- 33:33Speaker 1: that was wrong. It means that that's just the current trend.
- 33:36Speaker 1: That's all My point is. Because they have more information
- 33:38Speaker 1: doesn't mean that it doesn't make it right though. It
- 33:40Speaker 1: just means you have more information. Analytics doesn't mean it's right.
- 33:43Speaker 1: It just means you have more information. And sometimes a
- 33:45Speaker 1: manager's analytics should go out the window.
- 33:47Speaker 2: I hate the anti analytics movie.
- 33:49Speaker 1: I Know You do. It's so I know you do.
- 33:52Speaker 1: That's Joe Madden about anti analytics.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Who doesn't have a job right now?
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know why it doesn't have a job
- 33:57Speaker 1: because guys like the Mariners won't hire them. Joe Madden's
- 33:59Speaker 1: want done something the Mariners have never done. That's one
- 34:01Speaker 1: of the World Series.
- 34:02Speaker 2: I don't think you.
- 34:03Speaker 1: See in Farnessa it's the Mayor and Maple Valley. Joe
- 34:06Speaker 1: Mann is not the Mariners manager because he wouldn't be
- 34:08Speaker 1: a yes man to Jerry Depoto. Simple he didn't want
- 34:11Speaker 1: to play analytics games. They got a yes man in
- 34:13Speaker 1: the job right now who does the analytics by iPad. Okay,
- 34:17Speaker 1: so you get piggybacks and guys getting pulled after four
- 34:20Speaker 1: in Manning's so scoreless. It's just it's crazy. It doesn't
- 34:25Speaker 1: have to be this way, but it is.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Welcome to the new world.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Dude. I'm not that old. I live in this world.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I just say it doesn't make a right I just
- 34:33Speaker 1: say what it currently is. I get it. I know
- 34:36Speaker 1: that doesn't mean it's correct. And forness the maryor Maple
- 34:39Speaker 1: Valley's up next to ninety three point three KJFM, kid
- 34:55Speaker 1: not anymore. This is not here today. It's Anderson Hurst.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I just say that I have it anders Hurst, I already, miss.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I have no idea who that is on the show.
- 35:06Speaker 1: The Mariner's Got.
- 35:07Speaker 2: You are a soccer nerd, No, no baseball nerd.
- 35:10Speaker 1: You're both nerd. Yeah. The Mariner's Got ref Schnidered in Pittsburgh.
- 35:13Speaker 1: So it happened. Left hander comes in, they got ref Schnider.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Oh god, if.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Only they use their analytics.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Greg. He wants to argue with me about analytics. He's
- 35:24Speaker 1: trying to tell me Jill Madden is not a good manager.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Jill Madden isn't managing because the analytics guys don't want
- 35:28Speaker 1: him in the job. They took the He won the
- 35:30Speaker 1: World Series with the freaking cub.
- 35:32Speaker 3: I compared Joe Madden to Pete Carroll, right. Pete Carroll
- 35:34Speaker 3: won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks. Was a fantastic coach,
- 35:38Speaker 3: but the game's passed him by.
- 35:40Speaker 4: I will not knowing enough about Joe Matten except for
- 35:44Speaker 4: the resume in terms of the win. The pretty significant
- 35:47Speaker 4: one if I cub. Yeah, pretty significant one with that, Yeah,
- 35:51Speaker 4: I do believe. Okay, I'll use this one because I
- 35:57Speaker 4: kind of compare them. Who was I I was talking
- 35:59Speaker 4: to somebody about the yesterday, the like, So Dan Bilesman
- 36:03Speaker 4: won a Stanley Cup, a zillionaire for your hometown team, Yes,
- 36:08Speaker 4: spurg Penguins. Mike Holmgren won a Super Bowl with the
- 36:11Speaker 4: Green Bay Packers. Both really good coaches at one time.
- 36:15Speaker 4: The game evolves and changes, and I think, is I
- 36:19Speaker 4: think so highly of Mike. I think it's a absolute sham.
- 36:22Speaker 4: He's not in the Hall of Fame yet. Mike Holmgren
- 36:24Speaker 4: would not coach in today's NFL. Hell, he's the first
- 36:28Speaker 4: guy who admit that, Like we started talking about, well
- 36:30Speaker 4: you got the GPS, so the shoulder pads and all this.
- 36:32Speaker 4: He just like you've seen Mike when we say that,
- 36:34Speaker 4: and his head starts spinning and steam comes out of
- 36:37Speaker 4: his ears, and you know, I think Bilesman was a
- 36:39Speaker 4: great example of that.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Biolesman was just way over his skis.
- 36:43Speaker 4: And you know, and then people blame the crack and
- 36:45Speaker 4: analytics department or whatever, and it's like, no, no, how
- 36:47Speaker 4: about the coach that doesn't know how to use it exactly?
- 36:50Speaker 1: Like you know, and and it shouldn't.
- 36:53Speaker 4: It shouldn't sports be a little bit of everything, some
- 36:56Speaker 4: numbers and some itams exactly.
- 36:58Speaker 1: And that's that's my point. Is it swung so far
- 37:00Speaker 1: that the eye test in the gut check doesn't even register.
- 37:03Speaker 4: I watch I watched the you know, like in your
- 37:05Speaker 4: you're there, you're you know. When we go to an
- 37:07Speaker 4: NFL game, there's always scouts from like the next next
- 37:10Speaker 4: week and stuff like that. Those guys are charting plays
- 37:13Speaker 4: and formations and stuff. But a lot of it too,
- 37:15Speaker 4: is the eye test, right, College for sure, that's what
- 37:18Speaker 4: it is, right, It's definitely the eye test. Hell, you
- 37:21Speaker 4: go to a Thunderbridge game or an Everge Silver Tips
- 37:23Speaker 4: game NHL drops on Friday, and you see, I always
- 37:26Speaker 4: used to joke the guys, you can tell what the
- 37:27Speaker 4: NHL scouts They all sit in the top corner end
- 37:29Speaker 4: of the rink. They all got overcoats on, used to
- 37:32Speaker 4: have a dart out coming out of their lower lip.
- 37:34Speaker 4: But I used to watch those guys come in there
- 37:36Speaker 4: with a notepad and scribble stuff down. Now I see
- 37:39Speaker 4: those guys coming in with a notepad and an iPad.
- 37:42Speaker 4: It's a whole different world. It's a whole different world.
- 37:45Speaker 4: And I know a lot of my old scouting friends
- 37:47Speaker 4: from back in the day that we'd have beers after
- 37:48Speaker 4: a game and try or Seattle or kam Loops or wherever.
- 37:51Speaker 4: Them dudes right now, they're like, I don't know what
- 37:53Speaker 4: the hell they're doing these days. You know what's going
- 37:56Speaker 4: on here with entry zone?
- 37:57Speaker 1: Bah? What does that mean? You know? So it just
- 37:59Speaker 1: stuff evolves. It's all good, you know, But there's still
- 38:01Speaker 1: a place. I think there's still a place in thee
- 38:04Speaker 1: where a manager who's lived baseball his whole life played it. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:07Speaker 1: coached it well. I think it isn't that.
- 38:09Speaker 4: The criticism of Wilson is there's no gut feel for
- 38:12Speaker 4: him and maybe he's not allowed to exactly right.
- 38:15Speaker 3: And I'm not saying the Mariners are good that right,
- 38:18Speaker 3: but there are like to say that all of baseball
- 38:21Speaker 3: is just way too nerd heavy and everything and the
- 38:24Speaker 3: great nerd heavy.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Yes, I did not call it nerd heavy. I didn't
- 38:27Speaker 1: use those terms. I did not use those terms.
- 38:29Speaker 2: He basically said that the game I didn't.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say nerd heavy.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I said that the manager should be able to trust
- 38:36Speaker 1: his gut for knowing baseball in his heart and he's
- 38:38Speaker 1: played it and the emotions and the intangibles and what
- 38:41Speaker 1: his gut tells him. That's what I said. Yeah, ner heavy.
- 38:44Speaker 3: He said, Joe Maddenhattan doesn't have a job because that's
- 38:48Speaker 3: what everyone thinks. Though everyone looks at the analytics now
- 38:51Speaker 3: and everything.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I said, Joe Madden isn't the Mariners manager because he
- 38:54Speaker 1: would never say yes to the things that Dan Wilson.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Well, I think I think there's a lot of actor
- 39:00Speaker 4: she did that because the Mariners, the Mariner's last two
- 39:02Speaker 4: managers have been guys that were first time managers that
- 39:06Speaker 4: Jerry Depoto could dictate everything to.
- 39:09Speaker 1: But is that fair? I don't think that's even a question, right,
- 39:11Speaker 1: But that's but that's it.
- 39:12Speaker 4: Like it was like you were not going to get
- 39:14Speaker 4: an established manager with as long as the Poto is
- 39:17Speaker 4: in charge. Absolutely, you're just never gonna I mean, the
- 39:19Speaker 4: next guy is going to be you know, Dave Valley
- 39:22Speaker 4: or somebody I don't know. I mean it's it's actually
- 39:24Speaker 4: Vowel wasn't part of the ninety five team, so it
- 39:25Speaker 4: would be it would be does a Rod want to manage? No, wait,
- 39:29Speaker 4: he can't do it. How about well, you know, the
- 39:32Speaker 4: weird one was is that they didn't bring Joey quarterback.
- 39:35Speaker 4: I always thought they would do that.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Alex cor is available, that's still a possibility.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Yeah, well you get lose to he lose two to
- 39:42Speaker 1: three to Pittsburg.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Again, they want to all right today, we're gonna check
- 39:49Speaker 4: in once the M's game's over.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Chris Crawford's gonna jump on with us.
- 39:52Speaker 4: We'll talk to him, kind of break down the game
- 39:54Speaker 4: and do a little post game, a little mile y
- 39:56Speaker 4: on the air, So we'll do that.
- 39:57Speaker 1: We'll check in with Eno.
- 39:58Speaker 4: Sarah's coming up at one twenty from the Athletic Rats
- 40:02Speaker 4: and Burrell's podcast. Really kind of a great guru with pitching.
- 40:05Speaker 4: That's kind of his specialty with He's a nerd. He
- 40:07Speaker 4: is a nerd with nerd numbers. I haven't asked him
- 40:09Speaker 4: about this, the whole piggyback thing. I gotta get his thoughts.
- 40:14Speaker 4: I can't wait to get his thoughts on that, especially
- 40:16Speaker 4: using the guy who's the reigning American League Player of
- 40:19Speaker 4: the Week. Anyway, that's coming up at one twenty and
- 40:22Speaker 4: the Danny O'Neil since we're not on the air tomorrow,
- 40:24Speaker 4: actually will be about three o'clock with Gret Draft, So
- 40:27Speaker 4: Danny's coming on at two o'clock.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Today's normal Friday visit instead. That's the Infness and Jessmin
- 40:32Speaker 1: McIntyre up next. Thanks for listening to Anderson Hurst and
- 40:34Speaker 1: Greg Bell tend to new We'll do it again tomorrow.
- 40:37Speaker 1: I have a great Thursday ends up next to ninety
- 40:39Speaker 1: three point three kJ RFM,
