- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: Once you're ready, welcome on in.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe the more awkward, what are the more awkward two or five side podcasts and that's nothing to do with the result today.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_02]: If you're watching us on YouTube, we are having to do the hotel pod.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_02]: Michigan's one of those press boxes that close out of three hours and we certainly had a lot of time today to sit down right, wonder what the hell was going on?
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: Is the Oklahoma student's fall 17 to 10 to the Michigan Wolverines in their first test of the 20, 26 season average happened here.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_02]: I got John Hoover in Carsonfield along with me and boys.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_02]: We got a lot to get into.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: We have a lot to
- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: But John, let's start here, it was an off-season talking about mechanics and the film that John material has watched and how Ben Arbuckle has grown as an offensive coordinator and deep state Shadow OC Kevin Wilson is taking over and all of this stuff.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: What the hell was that first half?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: That was as egregious as anything we watched and we watched a lot of like egregious I assault football in 2024.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's what that was in the first half.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: The conspiracy theory last week was well Oklahoma took a YouTube seriously
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't gain plan from it for Michigan like they should they probably should and last week Michigan They didn't take a home of you know too far in the game planning because they obviously Gain plan from them all summer because they didn't do anything against Western Michigan.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's like We see what happened the result today.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's two different things.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's two completely different things Oklahoma has been preparing for YouTube apparently forgot to prepare for Michigan.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: I guess and Michigan
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: very much took almost seriously probably all of season.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: So it was, it's hard to, it was kind of hard to watch that first half of our whole country.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't really run the football with authority, had some success, but every time they had success, then our goal could got away from it and decided, hey, let's, let's throw the football.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: When that was not their best method of success tonight.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, they do.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: Not at all.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: Of course,
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: The Michigan team that put out a disaster, a laffer, last week, it's West Michigan.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: You knew that they weren't going to get that version of Michigan today, at least from the start.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: And whether you look at our pregame copy, we'll talk about the podcast, Oklahoma themselves and say this, but when we're talking on radio all week, it's like, what do you have to do, Carson?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: Go in there, start fast.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: try to make the fans uneasy, things like that.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: Michigan didn't necessarily start fast, but there was no reason for the big house to turn on the Wolverines at any point today.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: No, they didn't get off to a fast start, but they got off to a faster start than the Sooners, which wasn't overly important to do with how rough like you said they looked in the first half.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: The play calling was rough, John material didn't look himself, or at least what he can be when he's at his best.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: He was struggling to run game and phase his looks pretty good, then they'd go away from that, and then Michigan's offense didn't really do much special, but Bryce Underwood had a couple of nice runs, obviously, that touchdown in the first half, and they just looked more competent than the sooner did, which is just so weird after, oh, you looked phenomenal, only one, and Michigan looked just about as bad as anybody.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: It was kind of crazy to watch what went down in the first half.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: We get here in Springball and the first, very, very first thing that Brentville tells us.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: Any of us is Grimman football better, right?
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to have a kick-ass around the end.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to have a kick-ass mentality, yada, yada, yada, yada, yada.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma comes out.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: Calls Tales doesn't win.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: That was the first edition.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: I supported actually.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: It might have been till the second half until I supported another Insusion that was made by Oklahoma.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: Michigan Defers.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you get's the football big house rockin.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: Lloyd Vott rush eight yards second and two.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, boom.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: There you go John material past complete rocky beers boom.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you're off and running
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: I say instantaneous, he rushes left for seven yards.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, a little wrinkle there as far as that goes.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: An Oklahoma in second and three tries to take a deep shot.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: Does it pop off?
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: That was going to be the story of the first half.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: Third and three, Oklahoma.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: That was the one where a geometry was sacked and you look at it.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that if he would have stepped up into the pocket, it might have been okay.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: But you had ride
- 4:41[SPEAKER_02]: Jake and Michael, it did start at center.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: Fog A pushes the spin inside.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_02]: Eddie Purely kind of gets bull rush into geometry a little bit.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: The real problem though was, Marion Harris got pushed into material's lap on the right side and then the bull rush that Purely wasn't able to kind of corral, hit geometry.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's one of 17 pressures today per PFF.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome, I should go out there and put it.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: The defense looked sloppy again, but some of their pursuit angles, things like that.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: They had really, really bad luck on that first third down
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: Groot and Gillary is called for a pastorference, which it looked like the ref anticipated Gillary pulling the shoulder back, but then the ball was a little short and Gillary pulled his hand back made up of play on the football.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: Guess it worked itself out when Vogue andowski was flagged for targeting that was pulled back.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: It just can boost down the field a little bit ends up having to play.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: We get to drive number two, everybody buckled up, ready, Louis Vuitton 6-yard rush, and complete pass, and complete pass.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: Grayson Miller, maybe one of the plays of the game, booms in 80 to yard point through, a running into the kicker, that ran into the kicker, goes out there, and it extends the drive.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: Again, first and 10, six yard rush.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: Guess what happened now, boys, passing complete.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: But then they run for 12 yards out to the right, a run by the way, that if John material bounces outside and follows Eddie Paraly, he might not have scored, but Oklahoma set up first and goal probably.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: After that, you get
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: Boom, Zeerobson, Russia, the little for one yard, clearly that was a good enough one yard loss.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: Excuse me, A-Loo pass, A-Loo pass pun.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: That was, it was 33, 34 yards on the first two drives on the ground John.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma would end up rushing for, I think, 63 yards somewhere in there in the first half, in the story, Oklahoma Studios on outside.com.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: John material looked hurried, rushed, uncomfortable, the entire rest of the first half.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: And yet, Ben O'Buck will refuse to call running plays.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: He ends up in the totality of the game, only 13 called Russia's for the actual running backs.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: One of those included by the way, Tory Blay Lack, welcome back.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: Good to see you.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure it's my first Russia to hear from Tory Blay Lack would have been when you're backed up on your own goal line.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: And those nonsensical decisions after that second drive was the story, the first half of his offense.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: from the villain McCollot to Ben Arbuckle to, you know, and a Jones to, I mean, certain, and Jones has three or four guys that explain, so he can't criticize that.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: But when you take you, and this isn't his, his call, I just, he's the position coach.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: You've got three running place, like one was like almost like a lead power play to Isaiah Centena, who's your thinnest,
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: you're lugged up him three three run in place and he caught two passes get that audio field if you're going to do that stuff i just didn't understand the rhythm i didn't understand the tempo i didn't understand the connection between the place uh... that been our vocal called
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: in the running game or the past game because what you're saying is correct what you said at the top is correct our material doesn't look like he's comfortably doesn't look on his confident when the rush is coming at him he's getting a little lances getting a little nervous as you would with those big Michigan defensive ends.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: It just nothing worked in the first half of them today and then the second half they tried some other stuff and a lot of that didn't work either third quarter fantastic brilliant good play calling good tempo you're
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: The rest of the, the other three quarters it was just, it was a mixed, mixed match, hot punch.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it definitely was.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: The play calling just was so puzzling, the Satania runs definitely stood out just to something that maybe that something you try once you're twice the literal moff, but going three times to that, I feel like there's better ways to get him the ball.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he got targeted 10 times, only got two reception.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like Michigan's defense did a really good job neutralizing the threat that I say as Satania is.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like a lot of teams down the stretch last season did like I know Alabama and the playoff game for example did a really good job taking Satania out of the equation we saw that today wasn't his biggest game yet but avant had something going it seemed he was definitely serviceable he wasn't a star but he also looked comfortable running looked like he had adapted pretty well to the system like we saw last week against UTEP so I felt like there was room for him to get more touches late in the game when material clearly wasn't making the right decisions
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's I mean, that's a big part of the often sputtering that late in reception, which obviously I'm sure we'll get to But yeah, just a woeful day over all for the office
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: If the whole thing about Manning Passing Academy and working with various core-back gurus to work on your release, his release today was all over the place, your footwork, his footwork today was all over the place.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: What are you working on?
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: And didn't you not retain any of it?
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: I know this.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: Understand when the bolt start flying and guys are chasing it, you just trying to make a plate I get it, but his footwork and his arm angles, his fundamentals are just they have not improved Not in the two games that we've seen the jump pass returned on that play roll it out in the inzone and don't jump ass We had talked about this right in the lead up of
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: John Terry has asked about his mechanics a lot.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: He's asked about the mental side of the game and we tell you what he's worked on He's met with Sam Bradford all that stuff which is is sure he worked on a lot He's at the Sam Bradford, but it always went back to like I think we talked about this kind of in the lead up that We wanted to see like that that's all thought of games.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's great.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's awesome I'm sure it looks great when you've got the blue jersey on it practice all that stuff where rubber is gonna meet the road was against Michigan because you're in the big house.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's your first real test of the year
- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: Certainly in two weeks in Oklahoma, head to Georgia, that's going to be a big situation Also in the cotton ball and clearly on the material side of things today It was a regression that it's what I let off our takeaways on the website, opensuters onaside.com
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: New year same material.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's the exact same thing and it wasn't a thumb injury.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was all of the Mechanical stuff and I think you delivered a couple better balls to spite that because it's had was fine But no winner good enough to go and battle this schedule.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: Just project today's performance by John material into two weeks Now in Athens Georgia just project John the tears performance today into a month from now in Dallas, Texas
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yikes, if he does that, if he plays like this against those guys I'll call him not gonna have a chance to win he's got to play better Yeah, I think it goes deeper than that.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure they be Kentucky Mississippi State South Carolina if it's as rough as it was in this game
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: 17 to 33, one interception, we'll get to it.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: 189 yards, one touchdown.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_02]: Nice job, because Yaleean played five snaps.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: Your highest grade, the player on PFF as far as the offense goes.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: Good for McKenzie, I'm not not gonna hit it all.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Not exactly, you need absolutely to go win one of these games.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: And real quick, the two throws that John made in the third quarter, the one, the third down along to the rocking beers for 16.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think 23 of touchdown to McKenzie Olin.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: What amazing throws those were?
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was almost like,
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: He got reading down half time or something and it was just like that and you know, and it's almost like he's like, oh, yeah, I'll show you, you know, it's almost like what's this Those two thrills were like, yeah, watch this you guys you think I suck watch this I can throw as good as anybody and those two thrills he could But when you start making them think and he has to get off time and his You know the off platform and everything is breaking down around him
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's creative, he's athletic, he's got a nice strong arm, but boy, his mental game just collapsed and wouldn't know how happens.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the biggest issue and the biggest issue is that it was not even John Matthier's game.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's the fact that part of one of the other storylines that we asked that our buckle early in camp, things like that, how rare is it in college football that you have a veteran quarterback like John Matthier, now his third year as a starter,
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: Its geometry is third year as a starter under the same play collar and Ben Arbuckle.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: The geometry has been with Ben Arbuckle for longer than that in the system.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: Here was my biggest issue today.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_02]: BitR buckle, you should know geometry.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: This is not a set of trail comes in and is now working with Jackson Arnold and he saw him as an analyst and he gets elevated to a no see, but it's the first year and they're all to get, this is not the Norbuckles first year backcon plays after an extended period of time.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: Ben Arbuckles added some new stuff, but it seemed like Ben Arbuckle didn't know in the first half or couldn't recognize or any combination of that.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: That my quarterback is frazzled and he had no idea what the go-to was to say, hey, do we need to start the quarterback run again?
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: Because when he did start the quarterback run game, that to me Carson did not come in a spot where this was Ben Arbuckle to play color acknowledging, wow.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: John's all over the place right now.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: He's a guy that maybe needs to get hit once or twice, get his athleticism, gets his legs to the game.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: The run game popped back up.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: When Oklahoma was in that really weird spot, if you get the ball back with what was it?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: Three, three and a half minutes.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: Michigan has a couple of timeouts and the two minute timeout.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to rush rush rush and go three and out and they give Michigan a chance with the ball to come down and score knowing that they get the ball at a half time.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: You also need to make the determination
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: far enough up the field that it's now go time we ourselves need to kick in the gear that is when the job material run game popped up which again that that was not a hey I know my guys a little wobbly let's get this thing sorted that was a we need to do this to manage the clock and I think that then our buckle back in did his way into locking job material back in that can't happen for an OC that's been working with the same quarterback as like he says third year's the starter
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, I'm with you.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think that implementing some of those quarterback draws, some of those straight scrambles, getting some of those earlier in the game would have done wonders for his confidence, because he looked pretty good in those.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said he missed that block from peer a little bit where you could have taken it longer.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: But overall, I mean, that's where you see the dual threat that he is, that way that he added in the offseason.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's where that can really come into play.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, we saw that late in the game, and it really could have paid off if they used it the whole game I felt like.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm with you, they've spent,
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of the time together, they should have a better understanding of what do I do when John material is not playing his best football, and that seems like that, handing it simply off to Roy DeBont, Xavier Robinson, whoever it may be, that could have been another band-aid for it too.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's something that's on Ben Arbuckle, the offensive coordinator, John, that's also on Britt Vittables, the head coach.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: I know we talked about this on our post-game rap, from the field at the big house, Oklahoma series on SI, just had you John Hoover's YouTube page, I was
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: You look at over the years, the, the Oklahoma head coaches, you've covered not Lincoln Riley the head coach, Lincoln Riley, the offensive coordinator, and early in the Riley 10 year as OC, there were multiple times.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_02]: I remember reading the stories that you guys wrote about Bob Stoop stepping in and saying, I had to tell Lincoln Riley to run the football.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: I had to remind him, I know you come from this air raid trio, this is great all that stuff.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: Run the freaking football.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: Brent Venables now, this is three different offensive core gators, three different Jeff Labby to Seth Latrell, to binomical, all very, very different.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff Labby in Brent Venables, Jeff Labby put up a ton of numbers, they scored points, but Jeff Labby in Brent Venables always strolling on the pace of play, right?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: I need you to slow down at times so that my defense can get a rest.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_02]: Why are we gone in 60 seconds at least?
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: The second half of that bedroom game.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: Um, then set the trial, which is a tire fire, it is asked or in Brent talk about getting really involved and we talked about all of the like, hey, why is, um, uh, in that Tennessee game?
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: Why is that the trial thrown the tight ends out there that were incapable against Tennessee's bad ass and dressers?
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: At what point in the third drive or the fourth drive, does it fall in for it?
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: Vendibles to pull his headset back down while the offense on the field pushes a little button and say, coach our buckle, run the freaking ball with your running backs.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: That has to happen on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday during the week.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: It just, I mean, there has to be a communication trust between the two of them.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not saying there's not, we don't know.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: We're not in the staff meetings.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: We're also not on the headsets.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: You assume that at some point the head coach is going to stand up and say, I've got a tweet here, you guys.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: In response to a tweet that I posted about the question, and I asked for Brent Battles about the run pass ratio in the first half.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: You happy with the run pass ratio in the first half part of the game plan?
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: his response was kind of all over the place, but basically the word I took from it was it was uneven.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: And a person, a USA Mike, responded to my tweet.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: If only he were the head coach and could do something about it.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of the theme of what we're talking about here.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: Brent, as the head coach, has the power to dictate or at least interact with the offensive staff.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what's going on is I think he's all in on the defense.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to have a championship defense.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to fix the defense.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to have the best defense in the country.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to hire a guy to do my offensive.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: What, which is...
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: Fine, because when you look at the defense side of the ball, we'll get to the first half, especially things like that.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: But just the grand scope of Oklahoma's defense.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: From where it started to where it was last year, certainly the reason why I was in the costume of playoff.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: So even today, I thought the defense did not play well.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: I look up at the scoreboard, Oklahoma.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's a 10-ton ball game, and Michigan's not moving to the ball in the second half.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: At all, said if I told you, it's the one score that they gave up in the second half was because Jon material very gracefully,
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: back throw air mail to what we saw all day long.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: Jon material said that when I fall back in air mail, that was something we knew a year ago, he fell back to air mail's interception, Jair Hill, returns down to the 7th, the only touchdown I'll come to give up on the second half, that's 7 yard, drive.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: But eight.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: We asked the question a year ago when Brick Minibles takes over the defense.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: Carson, is that going to cause him to be do a terrible job at game management?
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: And for the most part of a year ago, everyone has their spots, things that pop off things that don't.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: For the most part, I didn't think there was like a major game management issue.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_02]: You even saw a recognition after the Texas game of, let's reel this stuff back in.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_02]: This gets to the, what should have been asked at the start of the Texas game is when you see Ben O'Bockel start to air it out.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: Coach Arbuckle, our quarterback had a hand surgery 17 days ago.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: Why are we trying to throw the ball down, feel it down, feel it down, feel it down, feel it, I know they couldn't run the ball last year.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: That plays into it.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: But again, this is where it's maybe not the game management that's slipping up.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that this is where head coach, even a head coach that wants to be the hands-on defensive guy and be the CEO on offensive just says higher and expert in life.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to be the head coach.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: You've got
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: Michigan's defense deserves a lot of credit for how they played.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: I thought John Henry daily Dominique was some of their guys played really well, but also Oklahoma's offense just kind of let them have their way because it was very vanilla.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like they were just airing it out.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: They abandoned the run, going to bond even with how good Michigan's defense was.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: It was still getting about four yards of carry.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean he wasn't playing bad football.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot more creative ways they could have attacked this.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: They could have
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's not the only person who should be receiving the blame for this performance, and I think a lot of that does come down to a communication between Brut Metables, Ben Arbuckle, Kevin Wilson, anybody on that side of the ball, Bill Bean and Bo.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think that there just has to be better union among the offensive coaches.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: You look what happened across the way on the other side of line today, right?
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: Kai-Witting Hand, a veteran head coach.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think everyone talked about a week long.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_02]: Brut Metables talked about how much respect he has for Kai-Witting Hand.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_02]: So much respect
- 21:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yo, after your one didn't go very well, they love some of the stuff that Utah was doing defensively, but also Brick said, while we're here, Kai woulding him, could I sit down, pick your brain a little bit, be in the head coach, things like that, and Kai woulding him was gracious enough, they had a great embrace before and after the game, I think you tell they respect each other a lot.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: Brick said I know it was really bad last week, really really bad.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's what's your mission.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: What did Michigan do today?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: They sat back and said, hey, Bryce, we're going to ask you to drop back, and they asked to do it a little bit more times because of pressures, but essentially, he threw the ball 17 times, okay?
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: He ran the ball 18 times.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty good.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_02]: A pretty good, uh, with the ball two, 87 yards, total only had 10 yards out.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a 10 year old school in the other way, but 87 net rushing yards for Bryce Hunter would including a really, really nice 38 year touchdown run, bad protruding with something that would again, Brent Voodles kind of fell on the grenade after the game.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: He said, that was a bad call.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: I went that back defensively as far as that goes.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: Calvating him, that's not a guy that's calling the offense, but that's an experienced head coach who either hired the right people or had the experience on Sunday and on Monday to pull the offensive coaches in and say,
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: Bryce struggled job.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: We may be need to not have him step back and throw the ball time after time after time.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: Especially until so come a defense.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_02]: Pop quiz count.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: What was the most points or come a trail by today?
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: and that was in the first half, right?
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: Great.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: Why did Chama tier go the ball 33 times then?
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: The game was never away from Oklahoma.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: You never had to, until the very, very end of the game.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: There was never a point where you look up and go, man, as bad as we're playing.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: We're down 17.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: We just have to air down.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: It was just a 10 point game.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think maybe the rest of the second half, again.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: John completed his first nine passes in the second half, seven of seven in the third quarter for 1225 yards.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: He really delivered some statement throws.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that's what I've gotten across earlier was he delivered some statement throws.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: He showed what kind of talent he has with those two, the third down throw in the touchdown.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: He had a nice quarter.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: And then he went one of his last eight over the final game.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: Final stretch of the game because they were behind they had the defensive ends were pinned in their ears back They had there were desperate for a touchdown when you get in those situations coaching helps you out a little bit coaching, you know Coming up with some clever plays coming up with some misdirection.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think guys I think Michigan knew exactly what John the Tier was going to run and pass what he was going to try and throw on just about every play I think they scouted him really well
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and then at the end of the day two car, so you talk about he get to come out and he did complete those nine passes to start the second half and he was really, really good.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: But I think everyone also knows that Jon material is not Sam Bradford.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: He's not Baker Mayfield.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: He's not Kyla Moore.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: He don't have to be those guys.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_02]: But Jon material was not a guy that I don't think that Oklahoma has any illusion that they're going to go through this season and there's going to be a stretch in every single game where he completes 15 straight passes or
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: and you have to be able to understand when he's locked in I had no issues that was going on in that third quarter obviously it's everywhere else where you can't just call a play for what's perfect you have to like recognize what's happening and know your person out yeah no definitely I felt like that one drive specifically capped off by the alien touchdown
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was surgical.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he couldn't really miss.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: He looked fantastic on that one.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we've seen that from John material.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: I know really in the playoff game.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of he had a similar structure that where you just couldn't miss.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: He was hitting deep.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: He was sitting short.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: But you have to just kind of, and this just goes down to what we've been talking about about the adjustments.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, this isn't working.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're putting more pressure on him.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: They're letting more guys back.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like Michigan to winning him's point.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Really adjusted well after that drive made John material very uncomfortable.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: the front seven I felt like was really disruptive today from Michigan.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I felt like the adjustments that even though it only amounted to 17 points on Michigan's in, I felt like they're offensive adjustments were far superior to Oklahoma's today.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and things got a lot better in the second half on both sides of the ball.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_02]: Initially, at least for Oklahoma, defensively it was a lot better the whole rest of the way.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma's defense, Britain will talk about the sloppy performance.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think you saw in the first quarter exactly the event by that even if it took until it was the second drive that Michigan was able to get going there were moments where Oklahoma needed to stall Michigan out at midfield because there are some bad street anglers things.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, they also though did have a very legitimate wrench that was thrown into things.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: Kipp Lewis plays was it two plays three plays comes up obviously very hobbled had to hop all the way back to the Commissar line got some treatment tried to come back again later.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: Last I think another like two plays basically Rick Vinnables after the game.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't have a determination officially or an official injury status for him other than just Kipp Lewis gonna miss sometime so
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: At least for New Mexico and maybe beyond that we'll see to the other side of the by-week and again, it's uh, what at the time is it?
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: 813 Eastern Time here on Saturday that uh, we'll get the further kip-loose updates as they get back to normal and things like that, but it was a defense that had to scramble a little bit and I thought that at times in the first half John it looked like a defense that was playing with down is veteran captain Middle-Eyeback.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: Moving forward at the middle line back in position, they need more Reggie Powers.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: Moving forward at the Cheetah position.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: James Nest is going to have to fill in it, both spots probably a little bit.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: just I mean there's a handful of miss tackles today where you know it's hard to get down on a guy for missing Bryce underwood in the pocket you know or in the in the hole that there's there's they got another a couple of red and backs I was a kid's name Marshall Jordan Marshall really talented to support the touchdown for you know the fourth quarter
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: This Michigan, I talked to guys, I talked to a couple guys earlier in the week about, hey, tell me about the challenge that you face stepping up from Western Michigan to Oklahoma.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: Tell me about the challenge that they face, stepping up from Utah to Michigan.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: And to a man, the guys were like, yeah, we've got good players too.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: We've got guys who were highly recruited, high school football players who were stars and who were good college football players.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: We're Michigan.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: Don't forget who we are, we're Michigan.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they're telling me.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that showed up today.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think Michigan played like crap last week.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think they didn't gain plan.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think they didn't really prepare appropriately for Western Michigan this week.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: After it and off season preparing for Oklahoma and preseason preparing for Oklahoma, I think their talent showed up today.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: They're good players.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why Oklahoma missed tackles because they were missing tackles on guys who were very talented.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, the couple of coverage, not bust, but just kind of snaffos and coverage, same thing, Bryce underwood made a play.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're a silver made a play.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: So that's, hey, guys, that's what they're going to face when they face Georgia.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they're going to face when they play Texas.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: Well, at the same time, it wasn't really enjoyed, Jordan was good.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: 32 yards, as long as Russia's 8 yards, seven-hider, six yards, his longest rush was five, as far as that goes, it was bright-sunderwood, and real-very-loss, and they, they bottle them up in the second half carcin, but if they don't figure out these protrudegals and things like that,
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: But I started with not the last mobile core back vocals we've seen the rest of the year so that when you look at the defense I'm not putting again a ton of blame in their direction I don't think they've played well by their standard at the end of the day that you know 17 points and I actually charge them with 10 points because seven of those were because they're quarterback set them up at the their own seven yard by basically
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're used to such good defensive performances that this did look bad for their standards.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: But it's hard to put the blame on them for this loss.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're facing even though he has a minute grade college quarterback, right?
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: So under what we know the athlete that he is, the potential that he still has, I felt like just going back to their coaching.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like they used.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: They found out last week, J.J. B. Cannon.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's a dude.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be their top target.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: Savion Hyder, he wasn't much of a Russian contributor.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was really...
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting out of the passing game though.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: We had a couple really nice grabs Marshall can hurt you in phases.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean there often wasn't good by any means But I felt like they adjusted well saw what the defense was getting then saw that the attack angles weren't necessarily great a lot of the times even some really good guys like Owen Hyniki having missed tackles out there That's gonna happen when you're playing really really good talent.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think Michigan I just story on this a couple days ago.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're 10th and the two four seven team talent ranking so I mean
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: even though they weren't great last year they certainly didn't look great last week.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: This is a team that when they're firing, even halfway half of their cylinders are firing, they can hurt you.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you also had, um, I thought open defensive backs made a couple really good plays on the football, but just couldn't quite force the turnover.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_02]: You saw, for I said it would thumbled and it was, I think it was Amari Robinson who happened to, under was fallen on it, Robinson had to hit him to kind of move that ball out and it just happened to roll right back under under Woods legs.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_02]: That was, yeah.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: trying to scramble.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think Owen Heinecky had a moment where he kind of made fun of Kit Lewis trying to pick it up.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't tell from my angle if he was just trying to pick it up, for which is a bad bounce, unfortunate bounce.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: The ball bounce, Michigan's way as far as that goes.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: On the Oklahoma side, you did have that material play, the empty hand that came through that ended up being an incomplete pass, but the very next play Parker Livingston Vumbles, that was negative one in the turn over department, negative two came on another geometry or
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that that kind of coincided perfectly, John, with the first half, is I put it in the live blog that we put up there.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: I tweeted out there and said, it just feels like Oakland, I can't live with success.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: And the lead up to that is, Oakland was driving.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_02]: They put together two good players.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, holy crap.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_02]: Let's last time, two positive plays happen.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: Then, John, it's your almost fumbles.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_02]: The review comes back, you're like, okay, maybe build out of that one, get a positive play to Parker Livingston, and then the fumble happens, and I'm sure you'll hear it on Monday night.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Brooke and Will's Coach of Show.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: He'll just copy and paste and negotiate the stat of what's on the reason I lost.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: Well, here at Oklahoma, since I've been here, we're yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yadda, really, really bad.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: We lose the turnover battle.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: We're okay when it's even, we're really, really good when you win it and that's going to come up again because oh, you was negative too and one of those was an absolute drive killer.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_02]: They're all a drive killers but like, Oklahoma's going for points at the very least would take sand down than the other one set up the Michigan second half.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead, touchdown.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I talked to Owen Heineke and Taylor One, and for that matter, Cole Sullivan, after the game, and they all pretty much soon, and spoke about turnovers.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: The need for turnovers, the desire, the desperate pursuit of turnovers, got zero today, got zero.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, when your offense is careless with football,
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: And your defense is scramble and scramble and it just can't get it, then you're behind your eight ball.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: When you're down, don't owe two in the turnover battle.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: Good luck.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: And you're not good enough.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: You're not good enough.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: If you're Oklahoma playing like this today, owe two over two in the turnover battle, you're not playing good enough to win the game somewhere else.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and you'll get it to special teams at that for the most part, both putters kind of cancel themselves out.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_02]: And the Rick Vinnables talked about, uh, cars knack at the game that there are a couple of moments that, uh, Oklahoma got pinned deep that, uh, he would have really really loved it at the same time.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: Read times inside the fun.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, at the same time when a very travel asked bread about, like you mentioned, you know, trying to field those, but it also was like, yeah, when you're at like the five or the seven, it's also tough to look.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: So did you want them to feel like or did you not want them to feel like right?
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know which one you wanted there.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's something to make signals, but Grayson Miller was excellent and then you look at it and just right before halftime, Oklahoma, drive kind of stalls out a little bit.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: Now, it was a little complicated.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you guys could see this on the broadcast.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: It was like everything was conspiring at the local home of John that we're putting this out.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: In the stadium, field level, it was pretty dead, wind-wise.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma starts their march toward the end of the second half that final drive of the second half where they try to start getting go And the big American flag with on the field is blowing straight into the face of where Tates and I was gonna have to kick If you look up at the top of the big house, it's like swirling Oklahoma strives dolls they didn't have to punt as they come back and buy someone to try to kneel it
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: The flabs are all dead so it was like I know that they were in a spot where like hey Could you set up for a six-year-art of rotation?
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: It was gonna be into the land as far as that happened But outside of that man, I didn't think this is a big special team's thing It's kind of a where does the outfits go for here since wish?
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I thought both punters Obviously grace and middle of row you can brown for Michigan.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: They were
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: Probably their teams in BPs, you could throw a Reggie Powers in there for a U.S.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think, maybe McKinsey O'Lean with his one touchdown, but Miller was fantastic, Sandell did what he needed to do.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: To your point, it's hard to make some of those judgment calls deep into your own territory.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: If you're Isaiah Sotania, can Browns on that much of a heater, so it's hard to fault them too much.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: Compared to a lot of the other things like, let's hear some consistency, a lot of the,
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: coach to coordinate our communication so that we talked about it just didn't have as profound of a negative impact as so many other things did in this game.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the numbers guys twice inside the one yard line three times inside the tin five times inside the 15th row cone was off as to start.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: They're off average field position.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: Starting field position was their own 16-yard line and it was worse than that in the second quarter The second quarter, I think I turned it at one point now It's like it feels like Oklahoma has a cross-the-thirty It's been because like they trained together two first times like man We made it to the 20 we did some good stuff here like it felt like that Michigan was behind the table on a lot of his positions as well starting at the the nine the eight Yeah, that's the nine Here's the six and the one so they started to side the ten four times
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: The difference is, the average starting position is the 30, because they started one position at the plus six yard line.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_01]: And after the extension.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: Plus, that's a big one.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_02]: A couple of midfields as well, because Oklahoma said, like, gracefully did everything you could to flip fields as you put from your own four, even a great plant is going to end up near midfield.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: So the crazy thing is there was a point in the game when Oklahoma got a three and out and was picking up the football.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: Their defense got a stop, got a three and up and they're picking up the football at the four yard line on the other side of the field.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: Try to.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: Make something go to happen.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: They're both puns.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: We're excellent to this and just kind of gets back to the difference in the scheme The big intersection right right job material Ball goes high in a brick minimal set.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, maybe got tip at the line It it might have here's the thing when you're quarterback is throw a high high high all game You kind of lose the benefit of the doubt there John it's something that or he's chuck inside our passes and doesn't have a good I don't know leasing release point
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: Arm angle, blah, I don't know, whatever, what he goes side of her, his accuracy goes way to, I don't want, well, and it's a can't, it's like he said he's drifting back, he's trying to just make that thing happen, and I saw him in the quarterback coaching here talking about that, right down for somebody.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I am, I thought it was really interesting in post game where Brent uses it as a, if he wasn't doing enough for it, then he's not one to just totally torches guys, right?
- 36:42[SPEAKER_02]: He's asked directly about what you make a geometry as performance, he immediately, he's a competitor, he's tough,
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: He tried really hard, culture is good, all the stuff that matters a lot when you win and that when you lose everyone, I roll some Freaks at a point and I get to understand it.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_02]: But then I think had her dinner chast, basically like what's some of the fixable stuff and that it was immediately Carson went to.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: Well, some of our stuff was high and we've got a settled down.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: Then there was another question about, just kind of steady things out and you talked about the balls that are being high, we got sped up and got us at like, he was talking about geometry.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_02]: He was not talking about the offense or stuff like that
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: This is where I find it really hard when you ask like where this is off it's go We're gonna come back and there's gonna be two or three more games to share where the the nine straight balls The nine straight completion geometry is what you get for most of the game I'm like man, look at these play around.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's awesome.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's great tough guy idiots.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's tough guy
- 37:35[SPEAKER_02]: But it gets this schedule.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_02]: You cannot rely on, like, uh, he might go out and ball out in the cotton bowl or get sure that that's not going to be sustainable, but we seem for drama tier, even with the documentary for two years.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just something you don't want to have to bank on those hot streets.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even if one of those tricks to your point can win a game, it might not be either the next game, it might be the high balls, it might be good.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: sidearm mechanics, but bad decisions on the run game, not that that was very prevalent today, that he did a pretty good job with his legs today.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: But you just need more consistency and we could say that 100 different ways.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's just the big takeaway that a lot of the things that faltered John material when he was battling that entry back after this season last year, they're still still things that need to be addressed and I think that
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: the coaching staff needs to take a really honest look at themselves to see how can they support him better before Georgia taxes the brunt of this schedule.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: Something that Abraham talked about a lot all throughout the year, all about the offseason.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: The best version of John Mathier comes from taking things off John Mathier's play, right?
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you saw the opposite of that today and that leads me to this who, and that's what we were told all the offseason.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, why do you say he was more explosive?
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: Look at these tight hands, run them back so better, offensive lines all back.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Of course,
- 38:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and that gets to I just wonder where does this offense go from here, right?
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: Because you you wouldn't hope you would assume that maybe the step up front gets better as Ryan Foge or Jake Micola or certainly like a sushi get back into the mix.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: Is it pretty much a sushi get a little bit healthier?
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the flip side of that, though, and I don't know anything about anything.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: We're just talking about a pain management injury.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's great, and time helps, but it's not like Jake Biker is getting the next 4 or 5 weeks off, right?
- 39:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like in two weeks, I gotta go play a Georgia team that saw all the tape from the top of the line before it's going to say, hey, let's really get physical these guys.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: Texas, like two of their next three games, you're not going to suddenly feel better coming off of that.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the bio can be huge for that, but outside of that, I mean, Rocky Bears had another good game today, I thought,
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: outside that i do think that on the next to last drive there was uh he was a step beyond the defense and if it made a good play but that was a spot where uh you need to right here to kind of come down with that football i thought before he got smoked trial Harris was pretty good as far as that goes otherwise you're looking at it two balls on the hands too yeah well i i just think that you're looking at it and you're going um
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: Lloyd of wasn't like a super star but he gets back to he wasn't given the chance to grow into the game and Certainly Xavier Robinson.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_02]: He would say Robinson's health is best.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_02]: We know that that's a guy John that he needs 10 15 touches and he's better on touch eight and touch 10 and touch 15 and when he skits his number called three times today I don't know how Xavier Robinson can grow into that.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think two of them were on live
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: outside zone place so not his not his forte I don't know you you you wonder these coaches are smart guys they're good coaches they with their well paid and you look around and you wonder are they good guys in the best position to be successful you know is Lloyd Avant who's average at six and a half yards of carry in the first half is he going to get 12 carries in the second half now we got two and there were both one was a zero and one was a I think a negative two
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure they have the answers, but when they go looking for them, they're not finding them.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and again, I just think the most damnity today, Chris, that I get back to is, it's one thing if...
- 41:11[SPEAKER_02]: You're trying to sound a certain early.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: You try to take a couple deep shots, done a pan out, something happens on the other side of things and suddenly you look up and you're like, oh boy, this game's getting away from us and you kind of get past happy things like that.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: They're only done by 10.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: At no point should this have been an abandoned run type situation, anything like that.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I just don't know how fixable that is because that's gonna require, I think, the guiding hand
- 41:39[SPEAKER_02]: To me, two games into your five preventables is not proof that yet when it comes to fixing things or helping his coaches have a lot on the offensive side of the ball.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it doesn't seem that way.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: It comes down again so we don't know exactly what the conversations are, but it is a little bit alarming to your point.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it was 10 points is the biggest need that Michigan had and they're offence.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like they were just firing on all cylinders.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like it was a 34-24 game where, oh, you couldn't get a stop.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: No, the defense played really well in the second half to your point.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: They just needed more balance than they had.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think they got a little bit, a little bit sugar-happy after them.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's here had that surgical drive like we talked about.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: And there were just so many better ways of on getting two periods late in the game.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's inexcusable.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_00]: Robinson needed more obviously.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: It would benefit.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: If Jonathan hadn't was a little bit healthier, he could have given it a go-to-day travel, but did not play.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: So that would have been helpful.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: We've got to find new ways Elijah Thomas really wasn't utilized.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_00]: He was wide open light in the game on one of those deep throws down the fuel material.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to paddle.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: No time gets today though, and we've seen what Elijah Thomas we've heard what he can do.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't seen much of them yet.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: But there are just a lot of things that this offense needs to do to just find more of a rhythm or a balance going into the bigger games in the schedule.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: Got new Xcode coming in next week.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not putting a cool look on upside alert here John.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I am going to borrow from Michigan a little bit.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_02]: Michigan talked a lot about Hey, that was the Michigan team.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_02]: That was a 10 win team.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_02]: I know that it's Western Michigan, but so like it's a New Mexico team that won a bunch of games last year.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's some of the brick good doubles point out immediately when he's talking about we got to flip this around got to get that thing going specifically though.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I, this could be potentially a good thing for Oklahoma or it could be a very, very bad thing as far as putting more Warps on film for Kirby's Martin Georgia, but the strength of that in Mexico team here go, what's the defense?
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma cannot come out and play offense like this and they might be fine, they might shut down the Mexico But it's gonna look sloppy like this if they don't really improve and they've suddenly got one week to figure out a way to conjure up a run game that they haven't had in a couple years, John, because
- 43:42[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, if you go into Georgia and you run the ball like this, I think we all know what that's gonna Well, if it looks like today, sure But they're gonna be fine against the Mexico.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna come out.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna run like they did against you Tep and everybody's gonna be happy because the offensive line will be cohesive and there's gonna be big holes to run through and guys They're gonna run decisively and then Georgia's gonna take the field fall in a week and it's gonna look completely different Cuz this Georgia
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: and it's at Georgia to where we saw what happy people here look like today as far as that goes I guess we'll be there we will I guess we'll close with this here
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: Brickville's was asked after the game.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, it's a tough schedule.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: We've talked about it all year, be a tough schedule.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: Who would I talk about this in the post-game rap?
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: The bit with the tough schedule is you had to win to this.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: You absolutely had to go out there and win today.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: Brickville's, I didn't think he was going to come out until it'd be a different guy or anything like that, but he talked about it's the exact same schedule.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's just as tough as it was, but it's a spot where, I guess, you can go back a couple years go to the Doomsday scenario to their credit.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_02]: The play never really got better, but I didn't ever think that they quit until the shower sharp dinner session, I was done writing after that, so I quit on the team.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_02]: But it is an interesting spot to be in, because Oklahoma is in real danger, like it is obviously the likely scenario,
- 45:09[SPEAKER_02]: that they go into a by-week two and two Texas on the horizon.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, that game's just gotten underway down in Austin as we're recording this.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: I know I get how that's going to turn out, but this could be a spot where, I mean, you're telling me that Steve's our Keasians not going to be looking as chops going, hey, we're on a by-two and whether they're unbeaten or got an axe to grind or anything like that, because they're down what 10 nothing right now to Ohio State.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: But regardless,
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's where you get into a spot where things could start to get very, very noisy around the program and very, very tough to keep everybody moving in the same direction.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, this really wasn't the game they could afford to lose, just looking at how daunting it is.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: You see, teams on the schedule further down the line that look better than Michigan looks at this point.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Georgia being one of those.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: If you have two losses, I mean, if you win out, you're making the playoff with the schedule.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: No questions asked.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: You lose one more game after that.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: You can make you still make it, but you need some help.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: You can't just win out and just know, oh, you're making it.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: You need some help.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: You need the good teams from the big 12.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's not being very good, kind of cannibalizing each other, same with the big 10, ACC.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: You need a lot more to make it as a 9 and 3.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: It has not happened in the two years of the 12 team playoff, so you go two and two in the Texas.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a great place to be, obviously.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_02]: Not good boys, the big house was awesome.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_02]: I know that no one wants to have us sit here after Oklahoma lose the 17 to 10 and wax poetic about Ann Arbor and the big house and things like that.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: Tradition, very, very, very, I feel incredibly happy that Oklahoma's able to make this trip.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_02]: I hope that Oklahoma continues to schedule these kind of games in the future.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if that's just feasible within it.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_02]: We talked to Roger Ditty about a month ago about just,
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: He wants seven home games every year.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: Nine conference games?
- 47:02[SPEAKER_02]: Eight with nine conference games.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: And currently a 12 team playoff where it looks like teams are maybe punished now.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_02]: I would argue that like a Texas area was punished for losing to floor and not for black or higher state.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, I cherish games like these.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really, really happy we got to do it.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I would say if you have a chance to make to the big house take it 12 years, this thing's been all the record.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: It was pretty at we reported this 2014.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm almost going to play Michigan.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: We all looked at it's at 26.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: Jesus.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's a million years from now.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: Guess who's a million years old?
- 47:34[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and Carson, you were on the field a ton.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: A ton of OU fans made the trip.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_02]: It was it reminded me who when I talked about this on the rabbit.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: So I reminded me of that Notre Dame trip.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: about a decade ago, where a ton of suitors made the way up to South Bend and it made for an awesome atmosphere, it's just unfortunate that this is one of the things that it's like awesome atmosphere, but I guess for both these fan bases involved, uh, to chop this thing, both teams won the home game, I guess that's somewhat kidding.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it definitely is, and that's funny because I feel like this Michigan team is about the same as it was last year.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's not that much better, not that much worse, you shouldn't have progressed by much, but the result is what the result is, the big house is fantastic.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: The fans were good.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_00]: Wasn't as loud as some of the others that we've been to just because of the way the stadiums built, but still was a great atmosphere.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, use offense really didn't do a lot to quiet the crowds, and they were loud pretty much the whole game, so it was neat out there.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_02]: We got a big tin weather, we got a big tin football game where we talked about the damn punters being the MVP's for both teams.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I had the lowest pick, by the way, 20 to 17 Oklahoma winning.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I got all of our staff.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't very close.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_02]: Get some deaths.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: And the team 10, they lose Jesus.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_02]: Kiss a death.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_02]: We went, we picked off all five of us on the SRS on the south side of the pick.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: So go ahead with a win.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: So close to pick a mission.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that kind of illustrates the importance of this game.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_02]: So 70 to 10 will be back in Norman Monday night talking to players.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll be back.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure there'll be a lot of we got to circle the wagons and keep after it.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm sure that everyone's going to love hearing that as we will love hearing it as we nod our heads in that.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: Subscribe just like yes, we get it.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: We want to give it a time.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_02]: Nameless face to the pot.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: We get it.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be big.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: It'll be big these next two weeks are gonna be massive for Brick Minibles, Oklahoma, and what this 2026 season can be because they fell today in Ann Arbor 17 to 10.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: That'll do it for the sooner's on the side host game pod here I promised you guys.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: I was gonna fix the audio at first for the audio and I did that.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_02]: Unfortunately, we did it to
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: rant and rave that a lot.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: Speak to you to Carson.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be back on Wednesday here on the podcast side of things, rehashing everything that Benargo Cooper, it's been able to say Tuesday, in Norman, everything that Benargo Cooper had to say Monday on his coach showed certainly all the players as well as previewing the Lobo.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_02]: So Jason X, who will be less constant's coach next year.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: I would imagine as far as that grew frozen.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: But for who for Carson, right, you have it.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you guys for persevering through us rehashing this.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: I can't wait to talk to you guys on Wednesday.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_02]: Hope everyone has a good one.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see you.
