- 0:32This is Gracelyn Keller with the Becker's Healthcare
- 0:34podcast, and we are recording live at the
- 0:36fourth annual spring hair issues roundtable.
- 0:39I'm currently joined by Alan Silver, who is
- 0:41the president at at Ambetter Health Solutions. So,
- 0:43Alan, thanks for being here today. And let's
- 0:46start our conversation
- 0:47with having you introduce yourself and sharing a
- 0:49little bit more about your role and organization.
- 0:51Well, thanks for having me. Really appreciate being
- 0:53here. As we mentioned, I'm Alan Silver, the
- 0:56president of Ambetter Health Solutions at Centene Corporation
- 0:59and the leader of our ICRA strategy.
- 1:03My job at at Centene has been,
- 1:06been here for fifteen months at the current
- 1:08moment in time. I've spent twenty five years
- 1:10in the health care space. Much of that
- 1:12time helping employers think through health and benefit
- 1:14strategy, actuarial design, exchange based solutions.
- 1:18The whole point of what I do
- 1:20is to
- 1:21develop a market around the individual market for
- 1:25employer provided coverage. So my job is to
- 1:27grow the ICRA
- 1:29market
- 1:30writ large in the country
- 1:31and really engage consumers and individuals to innovate.
- 1:35Well, thank you for being here.
- 1:37And first question I have for you is
- 1:39from your perspective,
- 1:41what is the most pressing challenge facing payers
- 1:44right now, and how are you addressing it?
- 1:46Yeah. I I think the biggest issue that
- 1:48we have is a combination
- 1:50of expectation
- 1:51from a consumer base
- 1:53with,
- 1:54the financial pressures that we're seeing in the
- 1:56market today. So finding a way to navigate
- 1:59the need to address the needs of a
- 2:01consumer dynamic that's really kind of fed up
- 2:03with what the system looks like and how
- 2:05we're delivering things
- 2:06with that kind of need to be affordable.
- 2:09So,
- 2:10the the whole world around developing an ecosystem
- 2:13that's ready to actually serve the needs of
- 2:15employees and and individuals
- 2:17while at the same time kind of advancing
- 2:20this affordability
- 2:21question.
- 2:22And digital transformation continues to accelerate across health
- 2:26care. So what technologies are you prioritizing right
- 2:28now, and what are you or where are
- 2:30you seeing meaningful ROI?
- 2:32Yeah. So right now, our focus is on
- 2:35prioritize prioritizing
- 2:37technologies that make ICRA easier to implement and
- 2:40manage at scale,
- 2:41which includes friction points for employers. But it
- 2:44also includes
- 2:45ensuring that the experience for a consumer is
- 2:48along the lines of the other things that
- 2:49they experience in the world from a consumer
- 2:52dynamic, things like Amazon, things like DoorDash, things
- 2:55to that effect.
- 2:56The biggest advancements that we're seeing are specialized
- 2:59benefits administration technology,
- 3:01decision support, the ability
- 3:03to, you know, link banking up with, enrolling
- 3:06in a plan and, you know, getting to
- 3:08a place where
- 3:09all of a sudden we're moving out of
- 3:11the fifty year cycle of employer sponsored insurance
- 3:14into something that is much more, you know,
- 3:17generationally focused for the the people in the
- 3:19workforce today.
- 3:21And as we wrap up our conversation,
- 3:23I would love to know where you see
- 3:24the future of health care innovation going. Yeah.
- 3:27So,
- 3:28choice breeds
- 3:30competition is what I would say. And, in
- 3:32the individual market and where we're trying to
- 3:34go, we're banking on the fact that we
- 3:36can unlock a consumer centric vision of where
- 3:40we wanna go with our health care system
- 3:41in the country. So the whole point of
- 3:44what the future is going to look like
- 3:45is instead of somebody buying insurance on your
- 3:48behalf or somebody trying to tell you what
- 3:51it is they think you need,
- 3:53you get to demand of the companies that
- 3:56are serving you, the payers that are serving
- 3:57you, the ability
- 3:59to grow something that makes perfect sense for
- 4:02you, that is flexible,
- 4:04tailored,
- 4:05personalized with tons of choice so that you
- 4:07can navigate your health care journey in a
- 4:09way that is personalized to you. Absolutely. Well,
- 4:12Alan, thank you so much for joining me
- 4:14today and sharing your thoughts and insights.
- 4:16Again, we are recording live at the fourth
- 4:18annual spring payer issues roundtable.
