- 0:00Speaker 1: Alma, chapter eighteen. And it came to pass that King
- 0:04Speaker 1: Lamoni caused that his servants should stand forth and testify
- 0:08Speaker 1: to all the things which they had seen concerning the matter.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And when they had all testified to the things which
- 0:15Speaker 1: they had seen, and he had learned of the faithfulness
- 0:17Speaker 1: of Amine in preserving his flocks, and also of his
- 0:20Speaker 1: great power in contending against those who sought to slay him,
- 0:24Speaker 1: he was astonished exceedingly and said, surely this is more
- 0:29Speaker 1: than a man. Behold, is not this the Great Spirit
- 0:32Speaker 1: who doth send such great punishments upon this people because
- 0:35Speaker 1: of their murders? And they answered the king and said,
- 0:40Speaker 1: whether he be the Great Spirit or a man, we
- 0:42Speaker 1: know not, But this much we do know that he
- 0:45Speaker 1: cannot be slain by the enemies of the king. Neither
- 0:48Speaker 1: can they scatter the King's flocks when he is with us,
- 0:51Speaker 1: because of his expertness and great strength. Therefore we know
- 0:54Speaker 1: that he is a friend to the king. And now,
- 0:57Speaker 1: o King, we do not believe that a man has
- 1:00Speaker 1: such great power, for we know that he cannot be slain.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And now when the King heard these words, he said,
- 1:07Speaker 1: unto them, now I know that it is the Great spirit,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and he has come down at this time to preserve
- 1:13Speaker 1: your lives. But I might not slay you as I
- 1:15Speaker 1: did your brethren. Now this is the great spirit of
- 1:18Speaker 1: whom our fathers have spoken. Now this was the tradition
- 1:22Speaker 1: of Lamona, which he had received from his father, that
- 1:26Speaker 1: there was a great spirit. Notwithstanding they believed in a
- 1:29Speaker 1: great spirit, they supposed that whatsoever they did was right. Nevertheless,
- 1:34Speaker 1: Lamone began to fear exceedingly with fear lest he had
- 1:38Speaker 1: done wrong in slain his servants. For he had slain
- 1:41Speaker 1: many of them because their brethren had scattered their flocks
- 1:44Speaker 1: at the place of water. And thus because they had
- 1:47Speaker 1: had their flocks scattered, they were slain. Now it was
- 1:51Speaker 1: the practice of these Lamanites to stand by the waters
- 1:54Speaker 1: of Cebus, to scatter the flocks of the people, that
- 1:57Speaker 1: thereby they might drive away many that were scattered in
- 2:00Speaker 1: to their own land. Yet being a practice of plunder
- 2:02Speaker 1: among them. And it came to pass that King Lamona
- 2:05Speaker 1: inquired of his servants, saying, where is this man that
- 2:09Speaker 1: has such great power? And they said, unto him, Behold,
- 2:14Speaker 1: he is feeding thy horses. Now the king had commanded
- 2:17Speaker 1: his servants previous to the time of the watering of
- 2:20Speaker 1: their flocks, that they should prepare his horses and chariots
- 2:24Speaker 1: and conduct him forth to the land of Nephi, for
- 2:27Speaker 1: there had been a great feast appointed at the land
- 2:30Speaker 1: of Nephi by the father of Lamona, who was king
- 2:33Speaker 1: over all the land. Now, when King Lamona heard that
- 2:37Speaker 1: Amon was preparing his horses and his chariots, he was
- 2:40Speaker 1: more astonished because of the faithfulness of Amon, saying, surely,
- 2:45Speaker 1: there has not been any servant among all my servants
- 2:48Speaker 1: that has been so faithful as this man. For even
- 2:51Speaker 1: he doth remember all my commandments to execute them. Now
- 2:56Speaker 1: I surely know that this is the great spirit desire
- 3:00Speaker 1: him that he come in unto me, But I durst not.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And it came to pass that when Ammon had made
- 3:06Speaker 1: ready the horses and the chariots for the king and
- 3:09Speaker 1: his servants, he went in unto the king, and he
- 3:13Speaker 1: saw that the countenance of the king was changed. Therefore,
- 3:16Speaker 1: he was about to return out of his presence, and
- 3:19Speaker 1: one of the king's servants said unto him, rabana, which
- 3:24Speaker 1: is being interpreted powerful or great king, considering their kings
- 3:28Speaker 1: to be powerful. And thus he said unto him Rabana.
- 3:32Speaker 1: The King desireth thee to stay. Therefore, Amon turned himself
- 3:37Speaker 1: unto the King and said unto him, what wilt thou
- 3:41Speaker 1: that I should do for thee O King? And the
- 3:44Speaker 1: King answered him not for the space of an hour
- 3:47Speaker 1: according to their time, for he knew not what he
- 3:50Speaker 1: should say unto him. And it came to pass that
- 3:53Speaker 1: Ammon said unto him again, what desirest thou of me?
- 3:57Speaker 1: But the King answered him not. And it came to
- 4:00Speaker 1: pass that Amon, being failed with the spirit of God,
- 4:04Speaker 1: therefore he perceived the thoughts of the king, and he said,
- 4:07Speaker 1: unto him, is it because thou hast heard that I
- 4:10Speaker 1: defended thy servants and thy flocks, and slew seven of
- 4:12Speaker 1: their brethren with the sling and with the sword, and
- 4:15Speaker 1: smote off the arms of the others, in order to
- 4:17Speaker 1: defend thy flocks and thy servants. Behold, is it this
- 4:21Speaker 1: that causeth thy marvelings? I say unto you, what is
- 4:25Speaker 1: it that thy marvelings are so great? Behold? I am
- 4:28Speaker 1: a man and am thy servant. Therefore, whatsoever thou desirest,
- 4:32Speaker 1: which is right? That will I do? Now? When the
- 4:36Speaker 1: king had heard these words, he marveled again for he
- 4:39Speaker 1: beheld that Amon could discern his thoughts. But notwithstanding this,
- 4:43Speaker 1: King Lamonai did open his mouth and said, unto him,
- 4:46Speaker 1: who art thou art thou that great spirit who knows
- 4:50Speaker 1: all things? Amon answered and said, unto him, I am not.
- 4:55Speaker 1: And the King said, thou knowest thou the thoughts of
- 4:58Speaker 1: my heart. Thou may ast speak boldly and tell me
- 5:01Speaker 1: concerning these things, and also tell me by what power
- 5:04Speaker 1: ye slew and smote off the arms of my brethren
- 5:07Speaker 1: that scattered my flocks. And now, if thou wilt tell
- 5:10Speaker 1: me concerning these things, whatsoever thou desirest, I will give
- 5:14Speaker 1: unto THEE. And if it were needed, I would guard
- 5:17Speaker 1: THEE with my armies. But I know that thou art
- 5:19Speaker 1: more powerful than all they. Nevertheless, whatsoever thou desirest of me,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I will grant it unto THEE. Now, Amon, being wise
- 5:27Speaker 1: yet harmless, he said, unto Lemna, wilt thou hearken unto
- 5:31Speaker 1: my words? If I tell THEE by what power I
- 5:34Speaker 1: do these things? And this is the thing that I
- 5:37Speaker 1: desire of THEE. And the king answered him and said, yea,
- 5:41Speaker 1: I will believe all thy words. And thus he was
- 5:44Speaker 1: caught with guile, and Amon began to speak unto him
- 5:47Speaker 1: with boldness, and said, unto him, believest thou that there
- 5:52Speaker 1: is a God. And he answered and said, unto him,
- 5:56Speaker 1: I do not know what that meaneth. And then Amon said,
- 6:00Speaker 1: believest thou that there is a great Spirit. And he
- 6:04Speaker 1: said yea. And Ammon said, this is God. And Ammon said,
- 6:09Speaker 1: unto him again, believest thou that this great Spirit, who
- 6:13Speaker 1: is God, created all things which are in heaven and
- 6:16Speaker 1: in the earth. And he said, yea, I believe that
- 6:20Speaker 1: he created all things which are in the earth, But
- 6:23Speaker 1: I do not know the heavens. And Ammon said unto him,
- 6:27Speaker 1: the heavens is a place where God dwells with all
- 6:30Speaker 1: his holy angels. And King Lamona said, is it above
- 6:35Speaker 1: the earth? And Amon said yea. And he looketh down
- 6:38Speaker 1: upon all the children of men, and he knows all
- 6:41Speaker 1: the thoughts and intents of the heart, for by his
- 6:44Speaker 1: hand were they all created from the beginning. And King
- 6:48Speaker 1: Lamona said, I believe all these things which thou hast spoken,
- 6:53Speaker 1: art thou sent from God. Ammon said unto him, I
- 6:58Speaker 1: am a man and man, and in the beginning was
- 7:00Speaker 1: created after the image of God, and I am called
- 7:04Speaker 1: by His Holy Spirit to teach these things unto this people,
- 7:08Speaker 1: that they may be brought to a knowledge of that
- 7:10Speaker 1: which is just and true. And a portion of that
- 7:13Speaker 1: spirit dwelleth in me, which giveth me knowledge and also
- 7:17Speaker 1: power according to my faith and desires which are in God.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Now when Ammon had said these words, he began at
- 7:23Speaker 1: the creation of the world and also the creation of Adam,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and told him all the things concerning the fall of man,
- 7:30Speaker 1: and rehearsed and laid before him the records and the
- 7:33Speaker 1: holy scriptures of the people, which had been spoken by
- 7:37Speaker 1: the prophets, even down to the time that their father
- 7:40Speaker 1: Lehigh left Jerusalem. For he also rehearsed unto them, for
- 7:44Speaker 1: it was unto the king and to his servants all
- 7:47Speaker 1: the journeyings of their fathers in the wilderness, and all
- 7:50Speaker 1: their sufferings with hunger and thirst, and their travail, and
- 7:55Speaker 1: so forth. And he also rehearsed unto them concerning the
- 7:58Speaker 1: rebellions of Lameth and Lemuel and the sons of Ishmael Yea.
- 8:03Speaker 1: All their rebellions did he relate unto them. And he
- 8:06Speaker 1: expounded unto them all the records and scriptures from the
- 8:10Speaker 1: time that Lee had left Jerusalem down to the present time.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But this is not all. For he expounded unto them
- 8:16Speaker 1: the plan of redemption, which was prepared from the foundation
- 8:20Speaker 1: of the world. And he also made known unto them
- 8:23Speaker 1: concerning the coming of Christ. And all the works of
- 8:26Speaker 1: the Lord did he make known unto them. And it
- 8:29Speaker 1: came to pass that after he had said all these
- 8:31Speaker 1: things and expounded them to the King, that the King
- 8:34Speaker 1: believed all his words. And he began to cry, and
- 8:38Speaker 1: too the Lord, saying, O, Lord, have mercy, according to
- 8:42Speaker 1: thy abundant mercy which thou hast had upon the people
- 8:45Speaker 1: of Nephi, have upon me and by people. And now
- 8:50Speaker 1: when he had said this, he fell unto the earth
- 8:52Speaker 1: as if he were dead. And it came to pass
- 8:55Speaker 1: that his servants took him and carried him in unto
- 8:57Speaker 1: his wife, and laid him upon a bed, and he
- 9:01Speaker 1: lay as if he were dead for the space of
- 9:03Speaker 1: two days and two knights, and his wife, and his
- 9:07Speaker 1: sons and his daughters mourned over him after the manner
- 9:10Speaker 1: of the Lamanites, greatly lamenting his loss Alma chapter nineteen.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And it came to pass that after two days and
- 9:21Speaker 1: two nights. They were about to take his body and
- 9:23Speaker 1: lay it in a sepulcher, which they had made for
- 9:26Speaker 1: the purpose of burying their dead. Now the queen, having
- 9:30Speaker 1: heard of the fame of Ammon, therefore she sent and
- 9:33Speaker 1: desired that he should come in unto her. And it
- 9:36Speaker 1: came to pass that Ammon did as he was commanded,
- 9:38Speaker 1: and went in unto the queen, and desired to know
- 9:41Speaker 1: what she would that he should do. And she said,
- 9:44Speaker 1: unto him, the servants of my husband have made it
- 9:48Speaker 1: known unto me that thou art a prophet of a
- 9:51Speaker 1: holy God, and that thou hast power to do many
- 9:54Speaker 1: mighty works in his name. Therefore, if this be the case,
- 9:59Speaker 1: I would that ye should go in and see my husband.
- 10:01Speaker 1: For he has been laid upon his bed for the
- 10:03Speaker 1: space of two days and two nights, and some say
- 10:06Speaker 1: that he is not dead, but others say that he
- 10:09Speaker 1: is dead, and that he stinketh, and that he ought
- 10:12Speaker 1: to be placed in this epulcher. But as for myself,
- 10:15Speaker 1: to me, he doth not stink. Now this was what
- 10:19Speaker 1: Ammon desired, for he knew that King Lamona was under
- 10:22Speaker 1: the power of God. He knew that the dark veil
- 10:25Speaker 1: of unbelief was being cast away from his mind. And
- 10:28Speaker 1: the light which did light up his mind, which was
- 10:31Speaker 1: the light of the glory of God, which was a
- 10:33Speaker 1: marvelous light of his goodness. Yea, this light had infused
- 10:37Speaker 1: such joy into his soul, the cloud of darkness having
- 10:40Speaker 1: been dispelled, and that the light of everlasting life was
- 10:44Speaker 1: lit up in his soul. Yea, He knew that this
- 10:47Speaker 1: had overcome his natural frame, and he was carried away
- 10:50Speaker 1: in God. Therefore, what the queen desired of him was
- 10:55Speaker 1: his only desire. Therefore he went in to see the King,
- 10:58Speaker 1: according as the queen have desired him. And he saw
- 11:02Speaker 1: the King, and he knew that he was not dead.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And he said, unto the Queen, he is not dead,
- 11:08Speaker 1: but he sleepeth in God, and on the morrow he
- 11:11Speaker 1: shall rise again. Therefore bury him not. And Ammon said,
- 11:15Speaker 1: unto her, believest thou this? And she said, unto him,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I have had no witness save thy word and the
- 11:24Speaker 1: word of our servants. Nevertheless, I believe that it shall
- 11:28Speaker 1: be according as thou hast said. And Ammon said, unto her,
- 11:32Speaker 1: blessed art thou, because of thy exceeding faith, I say,
- 11:36Speaker 1: unto thee woman. There has not been such great faith
- 11:39Speaker 1: among all the people of the Nephites. And it came
- 11:42Speaker 1: to pass that she watched over the bed of her
- 11:44Speaker 1: husband from that time, even until that time on the
- 11:47Speaker 1: morrow which Ammon had appointed that he should rise, and
- 11:51Speaker 1: it came to pass that he arose according to the
- 11:53Speaker 1: words of Amine. And as he arose, he stretched forth
- 11:57Speaker 1: his hand unto the woman and said, blessed be the
- 12:00Speaker 1: name of God, And blessed art thou, For as sure
- 12:04Speaker 1: as thou livest, behold, I have seen my Redeemer. And
- 12:08Speaker 1: he shall come forth and be born of a woman,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and he shall redeem all mankind who believe on his name. Now,
- 12:15Speaker 1: when he had said these words, his heart was swollen
- 12:17Speaker 1: within him, and he sunk again with joy, and the
- 12:21Speaker 1: queen also sunk down, being overpowered by the spirit. Now Ammon,
- 12:27Speaker 1: seeing the spirit of the Lord, poured out, according to
- 12:29Speaker 1: his prayers, upon the Lamanites, his brethren, who had been
- 12:32Speaker 1: the cause of so much mourning among the Nephites, or
- 12:35Speaker 1: among all the people of God, because of their iniquities
- 12:38Speaker 1: and their traditions. He fell upon his knees and began
- 12:41Speaker 1: to pour out his soul in prayer and thanksgiving to
- 12:44Speaker 1: God for what he had done for his brethren. And
- 12:46Speaker 1: he was also overpowered with joy. And thus they all
- 12:50Speaker 1: three had sunk to the earth. Now, when the servants
- 12:54Speaker 1: of the King had seen that they had fallen, they
- 12:57Speaker 1: also began to cry unto God, for the fear of
- 12:59Speaker 1: the Lord had come upon them. Also, for it was
- 13:02Speaker 1: they who had stood before the King and testified unto
- 13:05Speaker 1: him concerning the great power of amine. And it came
- 13:09Speaker 1: to pass that they did call on the name of
- 13:10Speaker 1: the Lord in their might, even until they had all
- 13:13Speaker 1: fallen to the earth. Save it were one of the
- 13:16Speaker 1: Laman Irish women whose name was Abish, she having been
- 13:20Speaker 1: converted unto the Lord for many years on account of
- 13:23Speaker 1: a remarkable vision of her father, thus having been converted
- 13:26Speaker 1: to the Lord, and never having made it known. Therefore,
- 13:29Speaker 1: when she saw that all the servants of Lamone had
- 13:32Speaker 1: fallen to the earth, and also her mistress, the Queen,
- 13:34Speaker 1: and the King and Amon lay prostrate upon the earth,
- 13:38Speaker 1: she knew that it was the power of God. And
- 13:41Speaker 1: supposing that this opportunity by making known unto the people
- 13:44Speaker 1: what had happened among them, that by beholding this scene
- 13:47Speaker 1: it would cause them to believe in the power of God.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Therefore she ran forth from house to house, making it
- 13:53Speaker 1: known unto the people. And they began to assemble themselves
- 13:58Speaker 1: together unto the house of the King, and there came
- 14:01Speaker 1: a multitude, And to their astonishment, they beheld the King
- 14:04Speaker 1: and the queen and their servants prostrate upon the earth,
- 14:08Speaker 1: and they all lay there as though they were dead.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And they also saw Amon, and behold, he was a nephyte.
- 14:16Speaker 1: And now the people began to murmur among themselves, some
- 14:19Speaker 1: saying that it was a great evil that had come
- 14:21Speaker 1: upon them, or upon the King and his house, because
- 14:24Speaker 1: he had suffered that the nephite should remain in the land.
- 14:28Speaker 1: But others rebuked them, saying, the king hath brought this
- 14:31Speaker 1: evil upon his house because he slew his servants, who
- 14:34Speaker 1: had had their flocks scattered at the waters of Sebus.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And they were also rebuked by those men who had
- 14:41Speaker 1: stood at the waters of Sebus and scattered the flocks
- 14:44Speaker 1: which belonged to the king, for they were angry with
- 14:47Speaker 1: Amon because of the number which he had slain of
- 14:50Speaker 1: their brethren at the waters of Sebus, while defending the
- 14:52Speaker 1: flocks of the king. Now one of them whose brother
- 14:56Speaker 1: had been slain with the sword of Amin, being exceedingly
- 14:59Speaker 1: angry with an Ammon drew his sword and went forth
- 15:02Speaker 1: that he might let it fall upon Amon to slay him.
- 15:05Speaker 1: And as he lifted the sword to smite him, behold,
- 15:08Speaker 1: he fell dead. Now we see that Amon could not
- 15:12Speaker 1: be slain, for the Lord had said unto Mosiah his father,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I will spare him, and it shall be unto him
- 15:19Speaker 1: according to thy faith. Therefore Mosiah trusted him unto the Lord.
- 15:24Speaker 1: And it came to pass that when the multitude beheld
- 15:27Speaker 1: that the man had fallen dead, who lifted the sword
- 15:30Speaker 1: to slay Amin, fear came upon them all, and they
- 15:33Speaker 1: durst not put forth their hands to touch him or
- 15:36Speaker 1: any of those who had fallen. And they began to
- 15:39Speaker 1: marvel again among themselves, what could be the cause of
- 15:43Speaker 1: this great power, or what all these things could mean.
- 15:47Speaker 1: And it came to pass that there were many among
- 15:49Speaker 1: them who said that Amon was the Great Spirit, and
- 15:52Speaker 1: others said he was sent by the Great Spirit. But
- 15:55Speaker 1: others rebuked them all, saying that he was a monster
- 15:59Speaker 1: who had been sent from the Nephites to torment them.
- 16:03Speaker 1: And there were some who said that Ammon was sent
- 16:05Speaker 1: by the Great Spirit to afflict them because of their iniquities,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and that it was the great Spirit that had always
- 16:12Speaker 1: attended the Nephites, who had ever delivered them out of
- 16:15Speaker 1: their hands. And they said that it was this great
- 16:17Speaker 1: Spirit who had destroyed so many of their brethren, the Lamanites.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And thus the contention began to be exceedingly sharp among them.
- 16:25Speaker 1: And while they were thus contending, the woman servant who
- 16:29Speaker 1: had caused the multitude to be gathered together, came, and
- 16:32Speaker 1: when she saw the contention which was among the multitude,
- 16:35Speaker 1: she was exceedingly sorrowful, even unto tears. And it came
- 16:39Speaker 1: to pass that she went and took the queen by
- 16:41Speaker 1: the hand, that perhaps she might raise her from the ground.
- 16:45Speaker 1: And as soon as she touched her hand, she arose
- 16:48Speaker 1: and stood upon her feet and cried with a loud boy, saying, Oh,
- 16:51Speaker 1: blessed Jesus, who has saved me from an awful hell.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Oh blessed God, have mercy on this people. And when
- 16:59Speaker 1: she had said this, she clasped her hands, being filled
- 17:02Speaker 1: with joy, speaking many words which were not understood. And
- 17:06Speaker 1: when she had done this, she took the king Lamonae
- 17:09Speaker 1: by the hand, and behold, he arose and stood upon
- 17:12Speaker 1: his feet, And he, immediately, seeing the contention among his people,
- 17:17Speaker 1: went forth and began to rebuke them and to teach
- 17:20Speaker 1: them the words which he had heard from the mouth
- 17:22Speaker 1: of Amon. And as many as heard his words believed
- 17:27Speaker 1: and were converted unto the Lord. But there were many
- 17:30Speaker 1: among them who would not hear his words. Therefore they
- 17:33Speaker 1: went their way, And it came to pass that when
- 17:36Speaker 1: Ammon arose, he also administered unto them, and also did
- 17:40Speaker 1: all the servants of Lamonae. And they did all declare
- 17:43Speaker 1: unto the people the self same thing, that their hearts
- 17:47Speaker 1: had been changed, that they had no more desire to
- 17:50Speaker 1: do evil. And behold, many did declare unto the people
- 17:53Speaker 1: that they had seen angels and had conversed with them,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and thus they had told them things of God and
- 18:00Speaker 1: of his righteousness. And it came to pass that there
- 18:03Speaker 1: were many that did believe in their words, and as
- 18:06Speaker 1: many as did believe, were baptized, and they became a
- 18:09Speaker 1: righteous people, and they did establish a church among them.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And thus the work of the Lord did commence among
- 18:16Speaker 1: the Lamanites. Thus the Lord did begin to pour out
- 18:19Speaker 1: his spirit upon them, and we see that his arm
- 18:22Speaker 1: is extended to all people who will repent and believe
- 18:26Speaker 1: on his name Almah, chapter twenty. And it came to
- 18:32Speaker 1: pass that when they had established a church in that land,
- 18:34Speaker 1: that King Lamona desired that Ammon should go with him
- 18:37Speaker 1: to the land of Nephi, that he might show him
- 18:40Speaker 1: unto his father. And the voice of the Lord came
- 18:44Speaker 1: to Amon, saying, thou shalt not go up to the
- 18:47Speaker 1: land of Nephi, for behold, the king will seek thy life.
- 18:50Speaker 1: But thou shalt go to the land of Medonai, for behold,
- 18:54Speaker 1: thy brother Aaron, and also Melachi and Amah are in prison.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Now it came to pass that when Ammon had heard this,
- 19:03Speaker 1: he said unto Lamonae, behold, my brother and brethren are
- 19:06Speaker 1: in prison at Madona, and I go that I may
- 19:09Speaker 1: deliver them. Now Lamona said unto Amon, I know in
- 19:14Speaker 1: the strength of the Lord that thou canst do all things.
- 19:18Speaker 1: But behold, I will go with thee to the land
- 19:20Speaker 1: of Madonae. For the king of the land of Madonai,
- 19:23Speaker 1: whose name is Antiomno, is a friend unto me. Therefore
- 19:27Speaker 1: I go to the land of Madonae, that I may
- 19:29Speaker 1: flatter the king of the land, and he will cast
- 19:32Speaker 1: thy brethren out of prison. Now, Lamona said, unto him
- 19:35Speaker 1: who told thee that thy brethren were in prison? And
- 19:39Speaker 1: Amon said, unto him, no one hath told me, save
- 19:42Speaker 1: it be God. And he said, unto me, go and
- 19:45Speaker 1: deliver thy brethren, for they are in prison in the
- 19:48Speaker 1: land of Madonnae. Now, when la Mona had heard this,
- 19:51Speaker 1: he caused that his servants should make ready his horses
- 19:54Speaker 1: and his chariots. And he said to Ammon, come, I
- 19:58Speaker 1: will go with thee down to the land of my
- 20:00Speaker 1: and there I will plead with the king that he
- 20:02Speaker 1: will cast thy brethren out of prison. And it came
- 20:05Speaker 1: to pass that as Amon and Lamona were journeying thither,
- 20:09Speaker 1: they met the father of Lamonae, who was king over
- 20:12Speaker 1: all the land. And behold, the father of Lamonae said
- 20:15Speaker 1: unto him, why did you not come to the feast
- 20:19Speaker 1: on that great day when I made a feast unto
- 20:21Speaker 1: my sons and unto my people. And he also said,
- 20:24Speaker 1: whither art thou going with this Nephite who was one
- 20:27Speaker 1: of the children of a liar. And it came to
- 20:30Speaker 1: pass that Lamona rehearsed unto him whither he was going,
- 20:34Speaker 1: for he feared to offend him. And he also told
- 20:37Speaker 1: him all the cause of his tarrying in his own kingdom,
- 20:40Speaker 1: that he did not go unto his father to the
- 20:42Speaker 1: feast which he had prepared. And now when Lamonae had
- 20:47Speaker 1: rehearsed unto him all these things, behold to his astonishment.
- 20:51Speaker 1: His father was angry with him, and said, la Moonai,
- 20:55Speaker 1: thou art going to deliver these Nephites, who are sons
- 20:58Speaker 1: of a liar. Behold, he robbed our fathers, and now
- 21:02Speaker 1: his children are also come amongst us, that they may,
- 21:05Speaker 1: by their cunning and their lyings, deceive us, that they
- 21:07Speaker 1: again may rob us of our property. Now the father
- 21:11Speaker 1: of Lamona commanded him that he should slay Amon with
- 21:14Speaker 1: the sword, and he also commanded him that he should
- 21:17Speaker 1: not go to the land of Madona, but that he
- 21:19Speaker 1: should return with him to the land of Ishmael. But
- 21:23Speaker 1: Lamona said unto him, I will not slay Amon, neither
- 21:28Speaker 1: will I return to the land of Ishmael. But I
- 21:30Speaker 1: go to the land of Madona, that I may release
- 21:33Speaker 1: the brethren of Amine, for I know that they are
- 21:35Speaker 1: just men and holy prophets of the true God. Now,
- 21:40Speaker 1: when his father had heard these words, he was angry
- 21:43Speaker 1: with him, and he drew his sword that he might
- 21:45Speaker 1: smite him to the earth. But Ammon stood forth and
- 21:49Speaker 1: said unto him, behold, thou shalt not slay thy son. Nevertheless,
- 21:54Speaker 1: it were better that he should fall than thee, for behold,
- 21:57Speaker 1: he has repented of his sins. But if thou should
- 22:00Speaker 1: fall at this time in thine anger, thy soul could
- 22:03Speaker 1: not be saved. And again it is expedient that thou
- 22:07Speaker 1: shouldst forbear, For if thou shouldst slay thy son, he,
- 22:11Speaker 1: being an innocent man, his blood would cry from the
- 22:14Speaker 1: ground to the Lord his God for vengeance to come
- 22:17Speaker 1: upon thee. And perhaps thou wouldst lose thy soul. Now,
- 22:22Speaker 1: when Amon had said these words unto him, he answered
- 22:24Speaker 1: him saying, I know that if I should slay my son,
- 22:28Speaker 1: that I should shed innocent blood. For it is thou
- 22:31Speaker 1: that hast thought to destroy him. And he stretched forth
- 22:34Speaker 1: his hand to slay Amin, but Ammon withstood his blows
- 22:38Speaker 1: and also smote his arm that he could not use it. Now,
- 22:41Speaker 1: when the king saw that Amon could slay him, he
- 22:43Speaker 1: began to plead with Amon that he would spare his life.
- 22:46Speaker 1: But Amon raised his sword and said, unto him, behold,
- 22:49Speaker 1: I will smite thee, except thou wilt grant unto me
- 22:52Speaker 1: that my brethren may be cast out of prison. Now,
- 22:56Speaker 1: the king, fearing he should lose his life, said, if
- 22:59Speaker 1: thou thou wilt spare me, I will grant unto thee
- 23:02Speaker 1: whatsoever thou wilt ask, even to half of the kingdom. Now,
- 23:06Speaker 1: when Ammon saw that he had wrought upon the old
- 23:08Speaker 1: king according to his desire, he said, unto him, if
- 23:11Speaker 1: thou wilt grant that my brethren may be cast out
- 23:14Speaker 1: of prison, and also that Lamna may retain his kingdom,
- 23:18Speaker 1: and that ye be not displeased with him, but grant
- 23:21Speaker 1: that he may do according to his own desires in
- 23:23Speaker 1: whatsoever thing he thinketh, then will I spare thee. Otherwise
- 23:27Speaker 1: I will smite thee to the earth. Now, when Amon
- 23:30Speaker 1: had said these words, the king began to rejoice because
- 23:33Speaker 1: of his life. And when he saw that Ammon had
- 23:36Speaker 1: no desire to destroy him, and when he also saw
- 23:39Speaker 1: the great love he had for his son Lamona, he
- 23:43Speaker 1: was astonished exceedingly and said, because this is all that
- 23:48Speaker 1: thou hast desired, that I would release thy brethren and
- 23:51Speaker 1: suffer that my son Lamona should retain his kingdom. Behold,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I will grant unto you that my son may retain
- 23:58Speaker 1: his kingdom from this time and for ever, and I
- 24:01Speaker 1: will govern him no more. And I will also grant
- 24:05Speaker 1: unto THEE that thy brethren may be cast out of prison,
- 24:08Speaker 1: and thou and thy brethren may come unto me and
- 24:11Speaker 1: my kingdom, For I shall greatly desire to see THEE.
- 24:15Speaker 1: For the king was greatly astonished at the words which
- 24:18Speaker 1: he had spoken, and also at the words which had
- 24:21Speaker 1: been spoken by his son Lamona. Therefore he was desirous
- 24:24Speaker 1: to learn them. And it came to pass that Ammon
- 24:27Speaker 1: and Lamona proceeded on their journey towards the land of Madonna,
- 24:31Speaker 1: and Lamona found favor in the eyes of the king
- 24:34Speaker 1: of the land. Therefore, the brethren of Amine were brought
- 24:37Speaker 1: forth out of prison. And when Amon did meet them,
- 24:41Speaker 1: he was exceedingly sorrowful, for behold, they were naked, and
- 24:45Speaker 1: their skins were worn exceedingly because of being bound with
- 24:48Speaker 1: strong chords. And they also had suffered hunger, thirst, and
- 24:53Speaker 1: all kinds of afflictions. Nevertheless, they were patient in all
- 24:57Speaker 1: their sufferings, and as it happened, it was their lot
- 25:01Speaker 1: to have fallen into the hands of a more hardened
- 25:04Speaker 1: and a more stiff necked people. Therefore they would not
- 25:07Speaker 1: hearken unto their words. And they had cast them out,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and had smitten them, and had driven them from house
- 25:14Speaker 1: to house and from place to place, even until they
- 25:17Speaker 1: had arrived in the land of Medonae. And there they
- 25:21Speaker 1: were taken and cast into prison, and bound with strong cords,
- 25:24Speaker 1: and kept in prison for many days, and were delivered
- 25:28Speaker 1: by Lamona and Ammon and of Alma, chapters eighteen through
- 25:35Speaker 1: twenty
