- 0:27Speaker 2: but here we talking about the focuses around fixing the basics,
- 0:30Speaker 2: safeguarding the economy or can Business Chamber CEO Simon Bridges
- 0:33Speaker 2: joins me. Now, Happy New Year, Simon, Hello.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Hey, Happy New Year. Andrew good be on your first show.
- 0:39Speaker 2: How are you going?
- 0:40Speaker 3: Yeah? Really good? Year always starts well, doesn't it. You
- 0:44Speaker 3: know you come back from holiday feeling good?
- 0:45Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no no, Sa Sam and Summon. I asked,
- 0:47Speaker 2: are you going? Are you going to Christopher's speech?
- 0:50Speaker 3: Oh? Actually said, how are you going?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well?
- 0:52Speaker 3: Am I going? You bet? I'm going. You know it's
- 0:55Speaker 3: we're putting on the event with the YenS ICC and kiwibank.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I mean you said it. I've got no inside word
- 1:01Speaker 3: on what precisely the promise is saying, but it's the
- 1:04Speaker 3: sort of basics focus on the results they've achieved. Well
- 1:07Speaker 3: after that, I've got twenty minutes with him, oh you know,
- 1:10Speaker 3: a chat on stage. You know, i'd expect hopefully we'll
- 1:13Speaker 3: get a bit of reflection on the last couple of years,
- 1:17Speaker 3: you know, maybe what he's learned, what he's learned around
- 1:19Speaker 3: coalition politics, taught the economy, maybe housing intensification Auckland obviously,
- 1:24Speaker 3: I mean that's where they won last time and they'll
- 1:26Speaker 3: need to win it again and what's going on there.
- 1:29Speaker 3: And then I think, look, you know, we haven't heard
- 1:31Speaker 3: the Prime Minister yet on a lot of the international
- 1:34Speaker 3: stuff that you've just been talking about, you know, to
- 1:37Speaker 3: you lot's been happening. So you know, events, dear boy, events,
- 1:40Speaker 3: they get in the way of things, and it be
- 1:42Speaker 3: good to sort of have a discussion about some of
- 1:45Speaker 3: that as well. And we're out on that.
- 1:47Speaker 2: So here's some questions were after two heavy years with
- 1:49Speaker 2: the recession and austerity combining, will it be difficult for
- 1:53Speaker 2: Christopher Laxon to sell the green shoots that are appearing?
- 1:56Speaker 2: Will he get the credit for the turnaround?
- 1:58Speaker 3: I think that's a good question. I mean I think firstly,
- 2:01Speaker 3: you know what we are seeing, you know, what is
- 2:02Speaker 3: the last three four months. There's see a lot of these.
- 2:04Speaker 3: You know, I hate the weird green shot, but I
- 2:06Speaker 3: know they explain it well, the green shoot, the various
- 2:09Speaker 3: indicators that do show that we're back on a path
- 2:12Speaker 3: from growth, so, as you say, from tough times to growth.
- 2:15Speaker 3: And one of the questions I intend to ask them is,
- 2:17Speaker 3: you know what extent really what you said? Do they
- 2:19Speaker 3: deserve the credit for this? Well? Is this simply cyclical
- 2:23Speaker 3: things that were kind of happening anyway, or what is
- 2:25Speaker 3: it that the government's done to be a part of that?
- 2:27Speaker 3: And I think the other valid question is is it
- 2:29Speaker 3: going to continue? What's the government got that's new, that's fresh,
- 2:34Speaker 3: that's there for business. It's going to give them continued
- 2:37Speaker 3: on going confidence over the course of this year, and
- 2:40Speaker 3: indeed beyond what are the economic plans of Christopher Luxen's
- 2:43Speaker 3: privileged to get another three year term.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Good stuff. Simon, enjoy your day to day, enjoying the
- 2:48Speaker 2: new facility. This is the International Convention Center.
