- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Alright, welcome back
- 0:07Speaker 1: to Real Talk with Mike D. I am Mike D.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Thank you for being here. Thank you for listening. And
- 0:12Speaker 1: as always, I appreciate you being here. Today I want
- 0:16Speaker 1: to remember my mom and dad. Yesterday was the date
- 0:21Speaker 1: that my father passed away. And I'll be real. I
- 0:26Speaker 1: was a little sad. I was upset. I cried a lot.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And it was a rough day, rough night, and a
- 0:37Speaker 1: rough morning. So I wanted to get on here and
- 0:42Speaker 1: just remember my mother and father, talk about my feelings,
- 0:48Speaker 1: talk about how I cope with it, and just talk
- 0:56Speaker 1: without crying, without Being too vulnerable, I guess you could say. But,
- 1:08Speaker 1: let's get to it. So, like I said earlier, yesterday
- 1:12Speaker 1: was the date that my father passed away. Now, my
- 1:15Speaker 1: father was my best friend. He was everything to me.
- 1:21Speaker 1: As a young boy, we would go fishing. We would
- 1:23Speaker 1: go shoot guns. We would talk about tools. We would
- 1:27Speaker 1: fix things. Work on cars. Just everything a father and
- 1:33Speaker 1: son do. And I feel like he was taken away
- 1:41Speaker 1: from me way too early. I was younger when he
- 1:47Speaker 1: passed away. I think I might have been late 20s,
- 1:51Speaker 1: early 30s. And I was angry. I felt like I
- 1:56Speaker 1: didn't get to spend enough time with my dad. I
- 1:59Speaker 1: felt like he was taken away from me way too early.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And that bothers me still to this day. You know,
- 2:12Speaker 1: I sit here and think, would you want him to
- 2:16Speaker 1: suffer or would you want him to be in a
- 2:19Speaker 1: better place where he's not suffering? And I fight with
- 2:26Speaker 1: myself about that because I'll be honest with you, part
- 2:28Speaker 1: of me wants to be selfish and say, I want
- 2:30Speaker 1: him still here. I want him to be here. I
- 2:33Speaker 1: want us to still have that time together. I want
- 2:36Speaker 1: us to go fishing one more time. I want us
- 2:39Speaker 1: to work on cars. I want us to go shoot
- 2:41Speaker 1: guns one more time. I want that. I want him
- 2:46Speaker 1: to see my daughter grow up. But then I think,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I don't want him to be in pain anymore. I
- 2:55Speaker 1: don't want him to suffer. I want him to live
- 3:00Speaker 1: the rest of his life in peace. And if that
- 3:02Speaker 1: means Going to heaven. So be it. You know. My mom.
- 3:21Speaker 1: She passed away. Years after my dad. And not easier.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Not any easier. She was my best friend too. I
- 3:31Speaker 1: had an awesome relationship with my mom and dad. My
- 3:35Speaker 1: mom was a sweet lady. The sweetheart would do anything
- 3:38Speaker 1: for you, for anybody. She was loved in the community.
- 3:46Speaker 1: She did the best she could for myself, my brother,
- 3:51Speaker 1: and my sister. You know, she loved my daughter. You
- 3:59Speaker 1: could just see by the smile on her face. I
- 4:04Speaker 1: just wish she could see her now and see how
- 4:07Speaker 1: big she's gotten, how beautiful she's gotten. And just a
- 4:12Speaker 1: woman that she's become. But I know they're both looking
- 4:16Speaker 1: down from heaven. I know they're both here with me.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They're both here with all of us. And some people
- 4:25Speaker 1: might be thinking, why are you sharing so much information
- 4:29Speaker 1: about your mother and father? Well, because I have to.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Because I live alone. I don't have anybody to talk to.
- 4:41Speaker 1: All these thoughts stay in my head until they don't.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And this podcast is real talk. And this is real talk.
- 4:52Speaker 1: This is what I go through. This is the feelings
- 4:56Speaker 1: that I feel. This is the life that I live.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And I choose to share some of it with all
- 5:04Speaker 1: of you. You all have mothers and fathers. Some of
- 5:12Speaker 1: them may still be with us. Some of them may not.
- 5:18Speaker 1: The only thing I wish and I ask of you,
- 5:22Speaker 1: if you have your mother and father still here and
- 5:26Speaker 1: maybe you're not on the best terms, try to resolve
- 5:32Speaker 1: those issues because I promise you one day, you're going
- 5:37Speaker 1: to regret that. Spend as much time as you can
- 5:41Speaker 1: with your mother and father, your brother and sister. Even
- 5:48Speaker 1: if you don't get along, spend time with them because
- 5:51Speaker 1: one day they're not going to be here and you
- 5:54Speaker 1: can't go back. You can't say, I wish I would have.
- 6:00Speaker 1: While they're still here, you still can and you should.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Resolve those issues. You know, I had a fantastic relationship
- 6:13Speaker 1: with my mom and dad. I can't relate in that
- 6:18Speaker 1: respect to having problems with my mom and dad or
- 6:24Speaker 1: my brother and sister because we all get along great.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I love them dearly. They love me dearly. And I'm
- 6:32Speaker 1: thankful for that. You know, my mom and dad passed
- 6:37Speaker 1: away from smoking. They smoked their entire life. I did too.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I smoked for many years. I quit many, many, many
- 6:47Speaker 1: years ago. I haven't had a cigarette in probably 25,
- 6:51Speaker 1: 30 years. But I wish I would have taken those
- 7:01Speaker 1: cigarettes away from my mom and dad. Just said, listen,
- 7:05Speaker 1: you're killing yourself. But You know, you can't make them
- 7:11Speaker 1: do something that they don't want to do. You can't
- 7:13Speaker 1: make them quit smoking. They're going to do what they
- 7:16Speaker 1: want to do. And my brother still smokes. And God
- 7:22Speaker 1: knows I wish he would quit. Anybody who smokes, I
- 7:27Speaker 1: wish he would quit. If you only knew the dangers
- 7:33Speaker 1: of smoking. And I'm sure you do. You hear about it.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You've got to know about it. But if you smoke, rethink.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Rethink that. Try to get some help. Try to quit
- 7:53Speaker 1: smoking because it will ultimately kill you, which it did
- 8:00Speaker 1: to my mom and dad. But anyhow, I remember my
- 8:07Speaker 1: mom and dad. I remember the beautiful people that they were.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I remember the kind souls that they were. I remember
- 8:16Speaker 1: how they would help anyone in need. They would give
- 8:20Speaker 1: their shirt off their back to help anyone. And I'm
- 8:25Speaker 1: thankful that my mom and dad instilled those same values
- 8:28Speaker 1: in me. But I'm not going to lie. I'm a
- 8:36Speaker 1: little angry that God took them away from me. I'm
- 8:40Speaker 1: angry that That they're not here with me right now.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I'm angry that I have to go through the rest
- 8:48Speaker 1: of my life alone. I'm angry about that. And I'm
- 8:55Speaker 1: selfish because I want them here with me. I want
- 8:59Speaker 1: to spend one more day with them. I want to
- 9:01Speaker 1: hug them one more time. I want to go fishing
- 9:03Speaker 1: with my dad one more time. I want to go
- 9:06Speaker 1: shoot guns with my dad one more time. I want
- 9:09Speaker 1: to go visit my mom one more time. I want
- 9:11Speaker 1: to hug my mom. I want to kiss my mom.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I want to tell them both how much I love them. Yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I'm selfish. I want that. But I can't. Sometimes that
- 9:28Speaker 1: kills me. But like I said earlier, we all have
- 9:33Speaker 1: to die. It's inevitable. But I won't ramble on anymore.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I love my mom and dad more than anything in
- 9:46Speaker 1: this world. And if you still have your mom and
- 9:49Speaker 1: dad here, spend as much time as you can with them.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Because once they're gone, they're gone. All you'll have is
- 9:59Speaker 1: to remember. But anyhow, I'm going to leave you with that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I appreciate you all listening. I appreciate you all being here.
- 10:08Speaker 1: And I'll see you all on the next episode. Thank you.
