- 0:31Would you take your Bibles and open them to Matthew Chapter 11,
- 0:35Matthew Chapter 11. When you get there, I'll draw
- 0:38your attention to verse 25 And this little Devo we're sharing.
- 0:42I've entitled Come to me. That's the instruction here in
- 0:47Matthew Chapter 11 and verse 25. Let me read it to you.
- 0:51It says at that time Jesus answered and said, I thank you,
- 0:55Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you've hidden
- 0:57these things from the wise and the prudent, and it revealed
- 1:01them to babes Even so Father, for it seemed good in your
- 1:06sight. All things have been delivered
- 1:09to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father,
- 1:13nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and he to whom
- 1:17the Son wills to reveal him. Come to me, all you who labor
- 1:24and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
- 1:28Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, For I'm gentle and
- 1:33lowly in heart, and you'll find rest for your souls.
- 1:36For my yoke is easy and my burden is light, and as
- 1:42hardships begin to stack up in our lives.
- 1:46They add up on one on top of another, on top of another.
- 1:50We have different seasons. Some seasons are easier than
- 1:53others, some seasons very challenging.
- 1:57As a church, we're in one of those seasons, a season I would
- 2:00call a season of heaviness. It's been very hard few weeks
- 2:05here for us individually and as a church, besides the the deep
- 2:12things that we've all been going through, there's been spiritual
- 2:15warfare. There's been very unusual
- 2:18spiritual warfare. There's been health crises and
- 2:22diagnoses, and there's been life and death situations.
- 2:26There's been prodigals revealed where you didn't know and things
- 2:30going on at work. And then of course, there's the
- 2:32world that we're in, the political environment, the bad
- 2:36news that we get, a constant stream of the fears and
- 2:40anxieties we as a church have lost a beloved pastor.
- 2:45To sudden and unexpected death. But of course, Pastor Avant
- 2:50wasn't the only death in our church over many others in the
- 2:53last few weeks. It's just one of those seasons.
- 2:56You have the things that are going on in your life
- 2:58personally, and then you kind of walk into a church and you feel
- 3:01it. You can feel the heaviness.
- 3:03You can feel what's something, something's not quite.
- 3:08And then whatever you might be feeling at the time, the Holy
- 3:10Spirit's drawing you to when you get those feelings, The Holy
- 3:13Spirit's drawing you to start praying.
- 3:16Just start praying about the Lord.
- 3:17I don't know what's going on. I don't know what I'm why I'm
- 3:19feeling this. But I need to pray for this
- 3:21church. I need to pray for the sister
- 3:23next to me. I need to pray for the brother
- 3:26in front of me because it is one of those heavy seasons.
- 3:29We've been walking along and this weekend I was thinking of
- 3:33the verse in March chapter 6. In verse 31, Jesus tells the
- 3:38disciples come aside by yourselves to a deserted place.
- 3:43And rest for a while. And there's that need that we
- 3:48get away. We just stop for a second of our
- 3:51regular routine. And of course this is a literal
- 3:54Jesus the Saint talking about being literally away to a
- 3:57deserted place. But if they wouldn't be alone,
- 4:00it's not like they would do it individually.
- 4:03And here we are applying this in our own lives, and we're going
- 4:06to break up the routine in an attempt to apply this verse in
- 4:11our own lives to get away. Just to get away for a few
- 4:14moments from the regular routine and release, release the
- 4:21instruction well before the instruction ever comes.
- 4:24You notice Jesus wants to make it clear that God can't be known
- 4:30unless He's revealed, and we're so grateful that He has revealed
- 4:34himself. He's revealed himself in in to
- 4:38us in His word. And we're so grateful that Jesus
- 4:41has led us to him and revealed through the power of the Holy
- 4:45Spirit. It says that nor does anyone
- 4:48know the Father except the Son, and he to whom the Son wills to
- 4:51reveal him. And through the teaching of
- 4:54Jesus, he's revealed to us the Father.
- 4:57And then you're wondering, well, wait a minute, Ed.
- 4:59Who? Pastor.
- 4:59Who's wills? Who's the one he's revealing?
- 5:02It sounds like it's only a selective group.
- 5:04And then the very next word Jesus says, he invites everybody
- 5:07that's weary. Everybody that's carrying
- 5:10burdens, which basically is every human being on the planet
- 5:13earth, all of us are carrying these weights and these burdens.
- 5:17Every one of us in this room has a burden.
- 5:20You know you can't escape it. Besides all the things in your
- 5:23life and all the difficulties in your life and all the challenges
- 5:27that are layer upon layer upon layer, sometimes folks will
- 5:31e-mail me and share what they're going through.
- 5:33And and then my response can only be man, this is.
- 5:36They'll they'll say somewhere along in there that it's really
- 5:39hard. And I I read their note and I'm
- 5:41like man, this is harder than hard and that might be your
- 5:44story today. And I'm inviting you to obey the
- 5:48scriptures. That's where freedom is.
- 5:50Obey the invitation. Jesus says if you're weary
- 5:55you're burden heavy, heavy you know heavy weights that you're
- 5:59carrying around that you're to come to him.
- 6:02Not to come to church, although that's in the right direction or
- 6:05come to a sermon. Or come to a pastor or come to a
- 6:08radio or YouTube channel. Jesus invites you to come to him
- 6:13to bring those cares and concerns to him in a very real
- 6:17way. You know, I received a couple
- 6:19emails. I opened them yesterday in the
- 6:21morning. One was from our missionaries in
- 6:23Uganda reading their recent update.
- 6:26And as they're describing their life, I think the title of his
- 6:29e-mail was just a hard season, I think is what he said.
- 6:32And there's been great deep grief going on out there, severe
- 6:36health issues flying back and forth to Colorado to help their
- 6:40family. And it's just been one of those
- 6:42hard things. And I received another e-mail
- 6:45from a brother that I barely know.
- 6:47A few last year about this time I was invited.
- 6:51I got an urgent call from Pastor Al Pittman said, can you go down
- 6:55and drive down to the springs and do this hospital visit for
- 6:58me? Because we can't make it now.
- 6:59He needs someone there now and we can't be there for hours.
- 7:02Can you be there? And I said, sure, I'll.
- 7:04So I drove down and you know was in the tragic, tragic situation
- 7:10where their son was very ill and although when I left he was
- 7:14alive. They had to make decisions.
- 7:17And he ended up passing away. And I met this brother, stayed
- 7:19in this brother's life. His name is Nick, if you want to
- 7:22remember to pray for him. And he sends an e-mail out
- 7:26updating his friends and family. And yesterday he, I think he was
- 7:29the one that used this phrase, layer after layer after layer of
- 7:33the things that he's been facing and the things that they're
- 7:36going through and even the victory that the Lord's doing
- 7:39through their life. And then, you know, as a church,
- 7:41that's where we're at. Even if today you're in a great
- 7:44of a place, of great celebration, we're happy with
- 7:47you. We want you to celebrate that
- 7:50there may there may be that sense where you're singing in
- 7:53celebration will actually bless the person next to you.
- 7:57It reminded me of a time like this.
- 7:59We did this earlier this year to, you know, because normally
- 8:02we do this on Wednesday nights. We have Wednesday night Bible
- 8:04study, and it's it's actually easier to just do a worship
- 8:08night on Wednesday than it is to rearrange the whole weekend.
- 8:11But nonetheless, we feel like it's a church thing that's
- 8:15needed and that's why we rearrange things this weekend.
- 8:17But I was reminded back. When my son passed away and I
- 8:22finally came back to church. But but I came to the services.
- 8:26But you know, there are days I didn't want to be here.
- 8:28There were days when I didn't want to sing.
- 8:30I mean, I'd literally look up at the screen and see the words and
- 8:33like, I'm not singing that I don't want to sing those words.
- 8:36And you know, words like break me, shape me, mold me like, no,
- 8:40no thank you, I don't want to be broken.
- 8:42I'm already there. But you know, being in the
- 8:45company of believers. People, even though I didn't
- 8:48want to sing that song, there was somebody next to me singing
- 8:51it for me and singing it over me.
- 8:55And that's the advantage of being in the room together where
- 8:58you're celebrating because you're in such a great place and
- 9:00you're like, wow, I'm celebrating.
- 9:02And yet your celebration and faith can be for the person next
- 9:06to you that really doesn't have a lot of faith today.
- 9:10And so wherever the station of your life is today, I want you,
- 9:13I want you to obey Jesus when he says come to him.
- 9:17Let it be. Let like like God desires not
- 9:20only Bible study. We do that here.
- 9:23And not only time of worship, we do that here, but a real, a real
- 9:27true experience with the one true living God that he's ready
- 9:32to meet you here where you are if you'll come to him.
- 9:36God does His part, you do your part, and as you do your part,
- 9:40God will meet you where you are. I I was thinking back one more
- 9:45thing like. When it says come to me all you
- 9:48who labor and heavy laden and I'll give you rest.
- 9:50It reminded me when I was in the business world.
- 9:53Because if I was in trouble I knew it.
- 9:55But because my boss would not call me, he would come down to
- 9:58my office and he'd show up in my office and then he'd go in and
- 10:02close the door. Then he closed the blinds and
- 10:04I'm like, oh man, I'm in big trouble.
- 10:07He doesn't want anybody to see him, see him, what he's going to
- 10:10do to me or yell at me or whatever he's going to.
- 10:12So you come back to my office and and they he would have a
- 10:15word for that. It was a phrase that he and the
- 10:17other bosses used and I hated it.
- 10:19He would say it was time for a come to Jesus meeting.
- 10:22You guys ever had that? Like, I hate that use because
- 10:25it's such a misuse of coming to Jesus.
- 10:28When you come to him, it's not to be berated or put down or
- 10:32corrected for something you did wrong.
- 10:35When you come to Jesus, he's ready to comfort you and
- 10:38encourage you. He's ready to exchange the
- 10:41weights that you've been carrying with his His burden,
- 10:45His light as yoke is easy as yoke is is ready, like that
- 10:49partnership that you have with them.
- 10:51And so you could say that today is one of those come to Jesus
- 10:55moments, but not like the world uses, but rather the Lord is
- 10:59ready to comfort you and prepare you even for this week.
- 11:03And so I invite you to obey the scriptures today as the worship
- 11:07team comes, and let the Lord let it be in song.
- 11:10Let it be. If you Can't Sing, then hum and
- 11:12you can't hum, then cry. And if you can't cry, then just
- 11:16sit there and receive the Lord and read the words and listen to
- 11:20the room and let the whole as you release yourself.
- 11:23I think to the Holy Spirit already in the first services,
- 11:27the first couple service last night and earlier.
- 11:29The Lord has met us here. And he's ready to meet you here
- 11:32and you guys by technology. I know it's not exactly the
- 11:36same, but I'm telling you this, if you're ready to to as if
- 11:41you're in the room with us right now, The Holy Spirit's ready to
- 11:44administer to you because he's not exclusive to a room.
- 11:47You know that, right? He's not exclusive to a room or
- 11:50to a building. But there is something special
- 11:53about being with the Saints. So you guys online, you're
- 11:56you're going to have to really focus and exclude all the
- 11:59distractions. So the Holy Spirit can meet you
- 12:02here. So, Father, I pray, Lord, that
- 12:04you would meet us in this place, that we would have a a sweet we
- 12:10take back a phrase that the world is jacked up and you
- 12:13misused. And we would come to you, Jesus
- 12:16today, where we will receive comfort and encouragement and
- 12:21string and a reminder of your goodness and affirmation of your
- 12:26love for us, that we are hidden in the beloved.
- 12:30A reminder of your sacrifice, of the blood that you shed for us,
- 12:34of your sovereign providential power in meeting us, revealing
- 12:39yourself to us, helping us. I pray God for the wanderer
- 12:44today. I pray for the wounded.
- 12:46I pray for the wounded. There.
- 12:48There are those here today that are wounded because with a
- 12:51church wound or a dad wound or a family wound.
- 12:57Or a world wound. God's sin is so wrecked us, and
- 13:01I pray that you administer comfort.
- 13:04You would break down walls. You would soften hard, hard
- 13:07hearts. And of course there's a lot of
- 13:10pain in the room so that you would comfort the mourning and
- 13:13the grieving and the widow and the widower.
- 13:16Those that may have lost children or grandchildren, those
- 13:20weeping over a prodigal, those wrestling with their church life
- 13:24right now and where they are and where they belong and what's
- 13:27going to happen in the world and what's happening in politics and
- 13:31the geopolitical and it's overwhelming God.
- 13:34So we bring those overwhelming concerns to you today and we
- 13:39invite you to honor your word where you're enthroned in the
- 13:42praises of Israel. How much more are you enthrone
- 13:46in the praises of your church, your blood bought church that
- 13:50you inhabit the praises of your people.
- 13:52So may you have your way with us today.
- 13:55In Jesus name. Amen.
- 13:57Amen. Let's start by standing church.
- 13:59Just a few instructions. You have the freedom to stand,
- 14:03to sit, to kneel. This whole area is always open
- 14:08for that. All you have to do is get over
- 14:10yourself and say, okay, the Lord is calling me to kneel.
- 14:14The Lord is calling me to lay face down.
- 14:17The Lord is calling me to draw near and kind of use this stage
- 14:21as a, you know, as a as an altar.
- 14:23It's not an altar, it's a stage. But by by just saying, you know
- 14:26the Lord I'm going to come and a song hits you or you know
- 14:31something, so, so whatever. You have freedom.
- 14:34In case you you have freedom. You have freedom to let the Holy
- 14:37Spirit lead you and guide you. You have freedom there.
- 14:40There's little pockets of the of the sanctuary that you could
- 14:43use. You guys downstairs, you know,
- 14:46if you're not down there because the kids are something, you
- 14:48should come up here. It's different than just even
- 14:51being downstairs on the screen. And we're going to follow Ian,
- 14:54Pastor Ian, and the whole worship team and then he's going
- 14:58to take the service from here. So let's seek the Lord together
- 15:00church. Da Who are thirsty?
- 15:10Oh, who are we? Come to the fountain.
- 15:20Dip your heart in the stream of life.
- 15:26Let the pain and the sorrow. He washed away in the waves of
- 15:37his MERS his deep rise out Duty we sing.
- 15:49Come, Lord Jesus, come. Come, Lord Jesus, Come, Lord
- 16:08Jesus, come, Come, Lord Jesus, come and feel our hearts today.
- 16:21Come, Lord Jesus. All who are thirsty.
- 16:31All who are thirsty. All who are we.
- 16:39Come to the fount. Tip your heart in the.
- 16:56Be washed away. He washed away in the waves of
- 17:04his verse as he cries out. Jesus.
- 17:55For today, Holy Spirit.
- 18:25As deep cries up. As deep cries out too deep.
- 18:33As deep cries out. As deep cries out deep, deep
- 18:42with it. As deep cries out as deep.
- 18:55Jesus. Come.
- 19:00Lord, more of you and less of me.
- 19:11More of you. Come.
- 19:12Lord God, we know you're here. We desire you, Holy Spirit, come
- 19:34Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit.
- 20:03God, we need you to heart his eyes, to see ears to you.
- 20:54What is my life? My salvation?
- 20:58Whom shall I fear? What is the strength of my life?
- 21:03Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me
- 21:09to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell
- 21:15though an army main camp against me.
- 21:16My heart shall not fear the war may rise against me.
- 21:20In this I will be confident. One thing have I desired of the
- 21:26Lord that will I seek, and I may dwell in the House of the Lord
- 21:32all the days of my life. To behold the beauty of the Lord
- 21:42to inquire in his temple, For in the time of trouble he shall
- 21:47hide me in his pavilion. In the secret place of his
- 21:54Tabernacle he shall hide me. He.
- 21:58Shall set me high upon a rock. But as we release and we
- 22:07respond, you restore and you renew worship you got today.
- 22:33And I believe there's a stirring and a settling.
- 22:37You're stirring our hearts God to to sing a new song.
- 22:42You're stirring our hearts slow to respond.
- 22:49And you're settling our hearts, God in your love.
- 22:56You're settling our hearts slow in your truth.
- 23:01We find ourselves, Lord, in this tension of stirring and
- 23:04settling, when you meet us there, settled in your truth,
- 23:11settled in your love, finding ourselves free in you, and
- 23:19stirring our hearts. God to walk in that freedom, to
- 23:24worship in that freedom, to behold the beauty of the Lord.
- 23:27To inquire in his temple. Or there's one thing Lord, one
- 23:32thing that I ask, and one thing will I seek, May that be our
- 23:37heart today. One thing I ask, one thing I
- 23:41seek that I might dwell in your house, God, I may inquire in
- 23:47your temple, your temple, the temple of the Lord.
- 24:02Help us, Jesus, to fix our eyes upon you so that the earth and
- 24:08the world and the cares and concerns of what they would
- 24:11fade. Away.
- 24:20Empty us God today. Says this is Psalm 95.
- 24:47Come, let us worship and bow down.
- 24:51Let's kneel before the Lord our Maker, for He is our God.
- 24:55We are the people. He watches over the flock, under
- 24:59his care, just to give a little more instruction.
- 25:05This morning the psalmist would write let us worship and bow
- 25:10down. There's a there's a literal
- 25:12sense of bowing down this word, Barack.
- 25:17It means to kneel, to bow, to to get low, to honor.
- 25:24And maybe in this stirring, God is telling you there's a there's
- 25:30a hardness of heart. Of not being able to honor him
- 25:40in the spirit because you're not willing to do it in the flesh.
- 25:48And oftentimes I find in my my own life that if I'm able to do
- 25:53things or respond in such a way where I actively do it.
- 26:00God's spirit starts to break down things that I've been
- 26:05helping to prop up. And so maybe that's you today,
- 26:09that you need to come As you worship, you need to come and
- 26:12bow down to get low as a sign of honoring, as a sign of
- 26:19surrender. And then Psalm 22 says that God
- 26:26is in. God is.
- 26:27And thrown in the praises of his people.
- 26:29And there's a specific word for that praise.
- 26:33It's it's tahila. And that word means this praise
- 26:38that bubbles up from deep within us.
- 26:41It's not scripted. It wasn't practiced.
- 26:49It's this praise that as we think about his goodness, his
- 26:52faithfulness, how he loves you. That there would be this thing
- 26:57that bubbles up with it in you, inside of you, and it comes out.
- 27:02God is enthrone in the praises of His people spontaneous
- 27:09praise. And so we're going to continue
- 27:12to worship this morning as we find ourselves in this stirring
- 27:21and settling, stirring and settling.
- 27:26We just encourage you to worship freely.
- 27:30That. We would make the decision today
- 27:39to worship the Lord, not worrying about what our neighbor
- 27:44might think of us, our spouse might think of us, our friend
- 27:48might think of us, but to fully just surrender and release what
- 27:54is deserving to the Lord. How can I raise to the love that
- 28:46you have lavished me? How can I raise to the love that
- 29:01you have lavished? How can I to the love that you
- 29:24have? Every part of me.
- 30:45Wants to love you like you. Love me.
- 30:51Love Every part of me wants to love you like me.
- 31:32The. You seen that church today?
- 32:43I don't have much. I have a heart.
- 32:50I have a heart. I don't have much.
- 32:59I don't have much. But I have a heart that beats
- 33:06you. I have a heart.
- 33:08I have a life. I have a life.
- 33:13I have a life for gift. I have a life for gift to God.
- 33:22I have a life for gift. So here I am to worship.
- 33:28Here I am to say that you're my God.
- 33:40You're all together, lovely. You're all together.
- 33:49All together. Wonder.
- 33:55I'll never know. How never know how much it costs
- 34:05to see my sin. Upon that crow.
- 34:12How there will know how much it goes to see myself upon that
- 34:27crow. So here I am, here I am to
- 34:34worship, here I am. Here I am to say.
- 35:35All the perfect son of God and all his innocence.
- 35:42You're walking in the dirt with you and me.
- 35:49He knows what living is. He's acquainted with our green a
- 35:56man of sorrow, Son, and suffering, blood and tears.
- 36:04How can it be? There's a God who weeps.
- 36:11There's a God who please or praise the One.
- 36:18Who would reach for me? Hallelujah to the sun of
- 36:40sun. So I'm imagining you are

- 59:39Do you guys want to do one more song?
- 59:44All right. God bless you guys.
- 59:48You guys want to do one more song?
- 59:51I think it's good for us to leave this place, just really
- 59:56thinking about why we sing, why we praise.
- 1:00:02So if there's breath in your lung, if there's breath in your
- 1:00:04lungs today, you have a reason to praise.
- 1:00:08And so there's a little tag part that we want to teach you.
- 1:00:14And it just goes, let's see, it just says let everything that
- 1:00:20has breath. Praise the Lord.
- 1:00:22Praise the Lord. And then that just repeats.
- 1:00:24All right. So we'll do this song and we'll,
- 1:00:26we'll tell you guys when to sing that, But you got to sing it
- 1:00:29with everything that's within you, right?
- 1:00:30So we're going to sing. Let.
- 1:00:32Everything that has breath. Praise the Lord.
- 1:00:37Praise the Lord. You guys with us.
- 1:00:39All right, let's sing it. Right.
- 1:00:51Here's the part. Let everything Let us praise our
- 1:01:15love. Praise our love.
- 1:01:16Let everything I'll. Praise when I'm sure.
- 1:01:19Praise when I'm doubting, I'll praise when I'm number.
- 1:01:26Praise went surrounded. It's praises the water.
- 1:01:33My enemy's drowning. As long as I'm breathing, I've
- 1:01:40got a reason to pray. He's the Lord.
- 1:01:46Hope my soul, Pray is the Lord. So I'll praise when I feel it,
- 1:01:58I'll praise. When I.
- 1:02:01Know I'll praise kids. I know you're still in control.
- 1:02:08Because praise is the web more than a sound.
- 1:02:19Oh, my praise is the shout I praise Jericho down.
- 1:02:27As long as I'm breathing, I've got a reason to pray.
- 1:02:34Oh my soul. I won't be quiet.
- 1:02:47My God is alive. How did I keep it inside?
- 1:03:04You have a reason to praise this morning.
