- 0:24Well, hello there, everyone.
- 0:26It is John Sumorley here, serial entrepreneur.
- 0:29It is great to be with you on
- 0:30Inspirations for Your Life.
- 0:32It's been a fun week.
- 0:34I know this is only Tuesday.
- 0:36It is February 10th, 2026.
- 0:39We only have one, two, three days until,
- 0:43yeah, just three days, actually, the fourth day,
- 0:45one, two, three, really four days until we
- 0:47hit three days.
- 0:48And then we hit Valentine's Day.
- 0:50We'll be talking more about that later.
- 0:52But anyway, it's been a fun week.
- 0:52Anyway, probably tomorrow we'll talk about that.
- 0:54So, again, if this is your very first
- 0:56time here on Inspirations for Your Life, I
- 0:58want to take the opportunity to say thank
- 1:00you and to welcome you to the show.
- 1:03Now being on the air four years, solid,
- 1:07and we're in our fifth year now, which
- 1:09means that's what series five is.
- 1:11So, yeah, we're on the air our five,
- 1:14basically four years and almost, well, let's see,
- 1:19a month, month and a half.
- 1:22So pretty cool, guys.
- 1:24All right.
- 1:24If you are coming back, of course, I
- 1:26want to take the opportunity to say thank
- 1:27you and welcome back.
- 1:29I always appreciate people that enjoy the content
- 1:31that I produce and want to improve the
- 1:33quality of their lives and the people they
- 1:34care so much about.
- 1:36If you're hungry or you're thirsty, feel free
- 1:38to go grab yourself something and come back.
- 1:41I have my R water here, very delicious,
- 1:44and it is great.
- 1:45Okay, guys, so we'll kick this off here
- 1:48in just a moment.
- 1:50I want to talk to you about what
- 1:52today's show is about.
- 1:54Today's show is a very interesting topic.
- 1:57It's series five, show seven, episode number four.
- 2:00It's about clarity versus overthinking.
- 2:03And we know the master weekly theme is
- 2:06from fear to forward, choosing light, clarity, and,
- 2:10of course, momentum.
- 2:11This episode explores how clarity comes from action,
- 2:15not overthinking, and how decisive thinking builds momentum,
- 2:18confidence, and emotional strength.
- 2:20Oh, who am I?
- 2:21I'm John C.
- 2:22Morley, serial entrepreneur.
- 2:23I'm an engineer, marketing specialist, video producer, podcast
- 2:26host, coach, graduate student, and a passionate lifelong
- 2:30learner.
- 2:31It's my privilege and my pleasure to be
- 2:33with you here this evening.
- 2:35First point is why overthinking feels productive, but
- 2:39it isn't.
- 2:40Overthinking creates motion without progress.
- 2:44It's like if somebody was here, and let's
- 2:47say they were putting something in order, right,
- 2:50and it looked like they were putting something
- 2:52in order, but really, they were doing it
- 2:54wrong.
- 2:55And then somebody would have to basically come
- 2:57back and undo what they did and redo
- 2:59it, so that would be just a waste
- 3:01of time.
- 3:02You know, when we do something wrong and
- 3:06it's not efficient, then we've got to go
- 3:08back to the drawing board, lose all those
- 3:10steps that we put in so well.
- 3:13And start all over again.
- 3:15And I know that's hard for a lot
- 3:17of people to understand, but you know, guys,
- 3:20it's the truth.
- 3:22And a lot of people out there say
- 3:24they want the truth, but then what I
- 3:25find out when I talk to them is
- 3:26they really don't want the truth.
- 3:29And so that's an interesting predicament that some
- 3:33people do.
- 3:35They say one thing with their mouth, but
- 3:38then their body acts a different way.
- 3:41Almost like they're two-faced to themselves, right?
- 3:44All right, number two, guys, number two is
- 3:46this.
- 3:47Clarity comes from action, not rumination.
- 3:50Movement clears the mind faster than any thought
- 3:53can.
- 3:53And I know that sounds hard to believe.
- 3:56Try it.
- 3:57When you're moving, your life just sort of
- 4:00changes, okay?
- 4:04And I know sometimes you'd be like, how
- 4:09are we going to do this?
- 4:11And the way we do it is by
- 4:13becoming intentional.
- 4:20I think that's an important thing to understand,
- 4:23is being intentional.
- 4:25When we can be intentional, our life can
- 4:27really accelerate in a positive direction.
- 4:30All right, that's important to know.
- 4:32Number three, how mental noise blocks intuition.
- 4:35Noise drowns out inner guidance.
- 4:37I don't know if you guys know this.
- 4:38And when it drowns out the inner guidance,
- 4:40it's like, well, it's like we're not getting
- 4:45a clear picture, a picture of what something
- 4:48really is, as opposed to an illusion of
- 4:52what we think it is.
- 4:55And that can be a very interesting thing
- 4:57for a lot of people, because the media
- 5:00is designed to get you to believe something.
- 5:03Let's say that this box is red.
- 5:08Even though the box might be blue, the
- 5:11media is designed to convince you that it's
- 5:13red, so more people buy red, just for
- 5:17example.
- 5:19Number four, the cost of second-guessing.
- 5:23Doubt delays momentum.
- 5:28Second-guessing can drive yourself absolutely nuts.
- 5:35And I think that's something that a lot
- 5:37of people don't realize, is how this can
- 5:42drive people nuts, and why it can drive
- 5:45people nuts.
- 5:46I think the reason why is because people
- 5:49don't understand what it means.
- 5:52Let's get right into number five, shall we?
- 5:55All right.
- 5:55Number five is why simple decisions reduce stress.
- 5:59Simplicity calms the nervous system.
- 6:01Did you know that?
- 6:02Yes.
- 6:03Simplicity calms the nervous system.
- 6:05Maybe you're having a challenge right now, and
- 6:07you're wondering what's going on, or why something's
- 6:09going on, but suddenly you say, oh my
- 6:11gosh, I suddenly get it, or I suddenly
- 6:14understand.
- 6:15And I think that's something that a lot
- 6:17of people, how can I say, they don't
- 6:20really get, but they understand one thing.
- 6:25They understand what people think it is.
- 6:31But that might not be what it actually
- 6:33is, OK?
- 6:39That's important, guys.
- 6:41Very, very important.
- 6:44And when I say important, I mean important
- 6:46enough for us to think about what it
- 6:50is.
- 6:52And what it is becomes a perception of
- 6:55ours, a perception that we think is one
- 6:58way, but actually we find out it's a
- 7:01different way, a way that we didn't even
- 7:04expect or that we thought existed, OK?
- 7:09That's an important thing.
- 7:12And so hopefully that means something to you
- 7:16and to everyone around you.
- 7:19Let's jump into point six, and that is
- 7:21clarity versus confusion.
- 7:23Sometimes people intentionally confuse things because they want
- 7:29you to make a mistake.
- 7:31They call it the competitive advantage.
- 7:33I call it being rude.
- 7:35Clarity versus confusion, yes, clarity settles our mind.
- 7:39Confusion just spins it around like a whirlwind,
- 7:42you know, like going on a merry-go
- 7:44-round, right?
- 7:44You can't really think when you're spinning.
- 7:46You've ever been on one of these rides?
- 7:48I think one of them you probably remember,
- 7:50like in the Tilt-A-World or any
- 7:52other ride that goes more than 20 miles
- 7:54an hour, like your brain's like, oh, right?
- 7:57Or my favorite is the Scrambler, right?
- 7:58That's another good one.
- 8:00Number seven, guys, how to trust your first
- 8:03grounded answer.
- 8:04Your calm answer is usually right.
- 8:06Now, we're going to have a whole series
- 8:08on a very important topic.
- 8:10I'm not going to let that out of
- 8:10the bag yet, but it's something I recently
- 8:13learned about myself and something I think you
- 8:15can learn about others.
- 8:17And what I want to say here is
- 8:19very important, and that is your calm answer.
- 8:23You know, sometimes when somebody's trying to get
- 8:24you to do something, when you can pull
- 8:27away, when you can calmly decipher something, right?
- 8:32People say, oh, you know, I got to
- 8:33have an answer now or I got to
- 8:34know now.
- 8:35There's nothing wrong with saying, you know what?
- 8:37I need to sleep.
- 8:38I need to think about it.
- 8:38I'll get back to you, right?
- 8:40Or if you're on the phone, that sounds
- 8:42great.
- 8:42Let me look it over, and I'll give
- 8:44you a call back when I can in
- 8:47a few days.
- 8:48But it's in person.
- 8:49People don't feel like they have the ability
- 8:52to do that, but you absolutely do.
- 8:55That's a great idea you're presenting.
- 8:57I'm going to need a few days to
- 8:58go over it.
- 8:58Oh, I need the answer now.
- 9:00Like on the phone, people feel like they
- 9:02can just brush the person off and ask
- 9:04for time.
- 9:04But when they're in person, I guess they
- 9:06feel kind of scared to do that.
- 9:09You shouldn't.
- 9:10Absolutely not.
- 9:11Number eight, guys, why certainty is overrated.
- 9:14You don't need guarantees to move.
- 9:16If you're waiting for somebody to pat you
- 9:18on the back, well, move anyway.
- 9:22All right?
- 9:23Move anyway, because when you move anyway, you'll
- 9:26find that there never is a perfect time.
- 9:28There never is a perfect place.
- 9:31There's just the opportunity.
- 9:33And you can make it perfect and do
- 9:36something amazing with it.
- 9:37But that comes from belief, guys.
- 9:40That comes from belief.
- 9:42Number nine, clarity grows when you stop forcing
- 9:47outcomes.
- 9:48Clarity grows when you stop forcing outcomes.
- 9:55That's a very, very interesting one.
- 9:58Clarity grows when you basically stop forcing the
- 10:03outcome.
- 10:03So release sharpens our direction.
- 10:08Release sharpens our direction.
- 10:11And whenever we release, it's like we get
- 10:13this epiphany moment.
- 10:14You know what I mean, right?
- 10:16Number 10, thinking less, choosing better, fewer thoughts,
- 10:21improve choices.
- 10:23We've learned that with the, what was that?
- 10:25I think it was called the, I don't
- 10:29remember the name of it now.
- 10:29It was called the SAS technique.
- 10:33Neville Goddard actually gave this to us.
- 10:37And the SAS technique is a very interesting
- 10:40technique.
- 10:42Assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled by
- 10:43Neville Goddard and act upon it with conviction.
- 10:47So sometimes it feels like nothing's working.
- 10:50So Neville was very clear about this.
- 10:52Even though people sometimes skip it, SATs fails
- 10:56when the mind is straining instead of yielding.
- 11:00So when you feel like you're not doing
- 11:01anything, you're actually doing more than you think.
- 11:04Common blocks, a lot of people say, is
- 11:06you're monitoring the results.
- 11:07You're trying to force beliefs.
- 11:08You're looping affirmations while you're still awake.
- 11:12You're emotionally invested in getting something instead of
- 11:14being it.
- 11:16You're attaching urgency.
- 11:18I need this to work.
- 11:20All of these keep you out of that
- 11:21state.
- 11:23Visualize to get something means no convincing, no
- 11:26repetition marathon, no hype, no effort.
- 11:30If you're doing hypnosis instead of drifting SATs,
- 11:34it can't lock in properly.
- 11:37So this may sting a little bit, but
- 11:39it's the real truth.
- 11:40Your subconscious does not respond well to abstract
- 11:43magnitude.
- 11:44Billions is conceptual.
- 11:46Your subconscious lives in sensory normalcy.
- 11:51Neville also said we use mudane confirmation scenes.
- 11:57The SAS technique, S-A-T-S, sleep
- 12:01akin to sleep, is I'm wealthy, I have
- 12:07billions.
- 12:07So that's bad SATs, okay?
- 12:10Let's talk about good SATs.
- 12:12You feel drowsy.
- 12:14Your images are faint, not vivid.
- 12:16You almost don't care.
- 12:18Your body feels heavy.
- 12:19You could fall asleep at any moment.
- 12:23Instead of a long recording, try three to
- 12:25five minutes of something, right?
- 12:28Start with safety, identity.
- 12:30Everything is handled now.
- 12:32I don't need to fix anything.
- 12:33Life is moving in my favor.
- 12:36The ordinary scene is a calm smile, relief
- 12:40in your chest, ease in your breathing, a
- 12:43quiet thought.
- 12:44It's already done.
- 12:46So I say this to you because when
- 12:49you're calm and you let go, your brain
- 12:53sort of works for you, right?
- 12:56Number 11, why clarity feels calm and calm
- 13:01is clarity embodied.
- 13:02So we have the calm mind.
- 13:05It's like everything operates in harmony, best way
- 13:09to explain that.
- 13:10Number 12, letting go of mental loops, release
- 13:14restores momentum.
- 13:16So you don't need to have loops.
- 13:18Nope.
- 13:20Number 13, the discipline of decisive thinking.
- 13:24Decisions are a daily skill, not something you
- 13:27do once and you forget about.
- 13:29They are daily, daily, daily, daily.
- 13:31That's a very, very important what I think
- 13:35that I want a lot of you to
- 13:37know about.
- 13:37Number 14, why clarity is a practice.
- 13:42Clear thinking is trained.
- 13:44Reducing complexity restores focus, less creates power.
- 13:50How clarity improves execution, clear minds act faster,
- 13:55okay?
- 13:56When we're clear, we don't have baggage.
- 13:59We don't have other things that are holding
- 14:00us back.
- 14:02That's very important to understand.
- 14:05Number 17, guys, why clarity accelerates momentum.
- 14:11See, direction creates speed.
- 14:14When we know what we're doing or we
- 14:16know where we're going, that's important to know.
- 14:26Very important to know.
- 14:35I think that's an important thing to understand.
- 14:40But it takes time.
- 14:52Does that make sense?
- 14:58Hope it does.
- 14:59And so sense comes from people
- 15:08knowing where we're going and what we're doing.
- 15:14Okay, that's a very important thing to note,
- 15:19okay?
- 15:21When we know we're going, it takes less
- 15:25time to get there.
- 15:26We don't have to decide.
- 15:27We know how to process and we know
- 15:29it.
- 15:30We don't have to get hung up with
- 15:32how we do it.
- 15:34Direction creates speed, number 18.
- 15:38Cutting through emotional fog, clarity slices emotional very
- 15:43cleanly.
- 15:44The emotions have to be clean.
- 15:46Why clarity beats certainty.
- 15:48Direction matters more than the proof.
- 15:51I know we all want the proof.
- 15:52I know we all want the results.
- 15:56But it's more than that.
- 15:59It's absolutely more than that.
- 16:05It's about an inner feeling.
- 16:07The inner feeling allows us to get insights
- 16:12to take inspired action.
- 16:17Direction matters more than the proof that many
- 16:20seek.
- 16:22Number 20, guys, how to simplify choices.
- 16:25Remove options until truth remains.
- 16:29Remove options until truth remains.
- 16:38That's an important thing to note, right?
- 16:43I think that's a very important thing for
- 16:44people to understand.
- 16:48And I think a lot of people, you
- 16:54know, they get stuck in their ways.
- 16:57And they feel that, well, if they can't
- 16:58do something one way, then there's no way
- 17:00for it to happen.
- 17:01I want to tell you something.
- 17:03When our Lord or God actually closes a
- 17:07door, it seems like there's no way out
- 17:10of the building.
- 17:11Somewhere, I promise you, he's going to open
- 17:15a window.
- 17:17And it might be small at first, but
- 17:20you're going to be able to crawl through
- 17:21the window or maybe even step through it.
- 17:23And you're going to find that you're going
- 17:24to have an amazing life that's going to
- 17:26open up into things you never dreamt were
- 17:28possible.
- 17:29You might get exactly what you want or
- 17:32something even better.
- 17:35So don't be judgmental about the package that
- 17:39it's coming in or the method.
- 17:42Number 21, guys, mental decluttering techniques.
- 17:45Clear before you choose.
- 17:50Clear before you choose.
- 17:51When you clear, you're able to choose something
- 17:55pretty wild.
- 17:56But we have to just let go of
- 17:58what's on our mind.
- 18:01What I've learned from being around for a
- 18:02long time is that we try to push
- 18:06sometimes too hard.
- 18:09And I don't know about you, but pieces
- 18:12in a puzzle go together a lot easier
- 18:14when you creatively play with them and you
- 18:17put them in the puzzle.
- 18:18You don't try to jam them and get
- 18:19them in a – right?
- 18:20I remember having – do any of you
- 18:23guys remember the toy?
- 18:24It was called – I don't think they
- 18:27still have the toy anymore.
- 18:29It was called Perfection.
- 18:31Anybody remember that?
- 18:32I think it was Perfection by Milton Bradley.
- 18:37Does anybody remember Perfection?
- 18:39I don't know if they still have Perfection.
- 18:44And Perfection, it was this timer game.
- 18:52And so the way Perfection worked, they have
- 18:58a version now you can get on eBay.
- 19:00And so I still remember this.
- 19:04Some people are selling it for very minimal
- 19:05amounts of money.
- 19:06So the way how Perfection worked was pretty
- 19:08cool.
- 19:09You had all these pieces, okay?
- 19:12And what you had to do is you
- 19:15had to take all the pieces, and you
- 19:18had to put them in the appropriate spots.
- 19:20They were like, what was it, 1, 2,
- 19:213, 4, 5, 5 times 5.
- 19:25So you had 25 pieces, and you could
- 19:27set the timer anywhere from 0 to 60
- 19:30seconds to put the pieces in.
- 19:32Now here's the thing that's kind of interesting.
- 19:35When you got all the pieces in, you
- 19:37would hit the Stop button, okay?
- 19:40It will switch.
- 19:41But if you didn't get the pieces all
- 19:44in, you know what happened?
- 19:46The table would push up.
- 19:47So when you start, you'd push the table
- 19:48down, and it would just push up, and
- 19:50all the pieces would just pop, or like,
- 19:52oh.
- 19:55So those are pretty good games.
- 19:58I remember Perfection.
- 19:59And then they had a newer version of
- 20:02Perfection that came out, a little bit different.
- 20:07But they're all kind of the same.
- 20:10I don't think you can buy Perfection anymore.
- 20:13You can get it on eBay.
- 20:15But why did I bring this up?
- 20:18I brought this up because a lot of
- 20:20times we don't get where we want to
- 20:25go because we haven't practiced.
- 20:28Maybe you're climbing up a rock wall.
- 20:31And the first time you climb up, I
- 20:33don't know about you, but I think the
- 20:34rope just kind of spun, and I was
- 20:35like, oh, I just came right down.
- 20:39You have to realize that you can't be
- 20:41an expert immediately, okay?
- 20:45And so I'm going to say something I've
- 20:47said many times before.
- 20:49You don't have to be great to be
- 20:54a success.
- 20:56But you do have to take the first
- 21:02step to get there.
- 21:06So you don't have to be great to
- 21:09be a success.
- 21:11But to be a success, you do have
- 21:15to start.
- 21:16So you don't have to be great to
- 21:20be a success.
- 21:23But you have to start.
- 21:26And once you start, then you can evolve.
- 21:30Number 22, guys, why clarity improves confidence.
- 21:34Confidence grows when doubt fades.
- 21:36I've said this before.
- 21:37So when doubt fades, it's like we're getting
- 21:41this silent cheerleader.
- 21:52Does that make sense?
- 22:04You've got this cheerleader in your mind, and
- 22:06the cheerleader is saying, oh, wow, you can
- 22:08do it.
- 22:09See, many people, myself included when I was
- 22:11younger, I always waited for other people to
- 22:13pat me on the back.
- 22:14You don't need to do that anymore.
- 22:16You can be your own cheerleader.
- 22:19What about your own cheerleader is that you're
- 22:22always there for yourself.
- 22:24Maybe sometimes people are cheering me.
- 22:25No, they got tired.
- 22:26But you never get tired.
- 22:27You always cheer for yourself.
- 22:31Number 23, guys, making peace with incomplete information.
- 22:37Move without all the answers, guys.
- 22:41There's a process in computers for an algorithm.
- 22:50And the way it works is one of
- 22:53the methods, it actually guesses.
- 22:58It's a loop optimization.
- 23:00It guesses.
- 23:01And if it guesses wrong, it might guess
- 23:04right.
- 23:04It keeps processing.
- 23:06If it gets to a certain point and
- 23:07it's guessed wrong, it has to start all
- 23:08over and throw everything away.
- 23:10But sometimes, a good percentage of the time,
- 23:13it guesses right.
- 23:14So it saves some time.
- 23:16So there's a tradeoff there.
- 23:18Number 24, clarity through alignment.
- 23:23It's aligned values simplify decisions.
- 23:29Clarity, alignment.
- 23:31We don't get alignment overnight.
- 23:33We get alignment through showing up, being consistent,
- 23:38and living our core values.
- 23:41Number 25, guys, why clarity creates relief.
- 23:46Relief follows clear choices.
- 23:49When we have clear choices, we suddenly don't
- 23:53get stressed.
- 23:54We achieve what we want to do a
- 23:55lot easier.
- 23:58Number 26, letting clarity replace anxiety as direction
- 24:05dissolves anxiety.
- 24:06Let me say that again.
- 24:07Letting clarity replace anxiety.
- 24:10Direction dissolves anxiety.
- 24:12When we have our focus, our direction, our
- 24:17anxiety is minimized.
- 24:19Let me see if I can give an
- 24:20example.
- 24:21Maybe you're studying for a test, or you're
- 24:23doing this thing for a test, and you
- 24:25have so much anxiety.
- 24:26But now you've done so many practice problems,
- 24:28and now when you do it, it's like,
- 24:29well, this doesn't bother me that much anymore.
- 24:32Because now I feel confident.
- 24:34My anxiety has dropped to either nothing or
- 24:36maybe half.
- 24:38Number 27, guys, how clear thinking saves energy.
- 24:43See, confusion, I don't know if you know
- 24:44this, guys, confusion uses a lot more brain
- 24:47power.
- 24:48Yes, it does.
- 24:49It uses a lot more brain power.
- 24:53And that's a very important thing to realize.
- 24:58We want to use our energy for the
- 25:00right thing, and we don't want to waste
- 25:02our energy.
- 25:02I think that's really important to know.
- 25:04I know sometimes we're thinking about things like,
- 25:07oh my gosh, how can I do this,
- 25:09and how do I get this to work?
- 25:12And I think the way you get it
- 25:13to work is you have to give yourself
- 25:16some truth.
- 25:18You have to give yourself some truth.
- 25:21And that truth is not always easy.
- 25:31It's not always easy.
- 25:40And easy is not something that some people
- 25:44debate about.
- 25:45Easy is just something that affects whether somebody
- 25:50wants to go forward.
- 25:51I find that when something is not easy,
- 25:54we work a little bit harder, but then
- 25:56we appreciate the success from it.
- 26:01We appreciate the success from it.
- 26:08Pretty neat, right?
- 26:14Think about what that means for you.
- 26:21Think about how that changes your life.
- 26:29Think about what that could do for you.
- 26:32Quite a bit.
- 26:35Quite a bit.
- 26:39Number 28.
- 26:41Choosing direction over doubt.
- 26:44See, direction beats hesitation.
- 26:47We get clarity.
- 26:49Less exhaustion.
- 26:53More productivity.
- 26:56And this, you know what happens, guys?
- 26:57We yield to success.
- 27:01A lot of times we don't reach success
- 27:04because we burn out early.
- 27:07We burn out early.
- 27:11We've eaten all the candy in the bag.
- 27:12We've eaten all the popcorn before the movies
- 27:15even started.
- 27:18And then we get discouraged.
- 27:24You know, sometimes people say things to you
- 27:27or to me.
- 27:29And many years ago I'd be like, oh
- 27:30my gosh.
- 27:32That's terrible.
- 27:34And I would allow that to impact my
- 27:38life.
- 27:38And I'm like, okay, they said that.
- 27:40It's interesting.
- 27:41I don't agree with it.
- 27:43So I disassociate with it.
- 27:44I don't put energy into it.
- 27:45And it doesn't control me.
- 27:46When you try to, let's say, either defend
- 27:53or to take so much energy to put
- 27:56into something, if you don't agree with something,
- 27:58just let it go.
- 28:00Let it flow away like a cloud, just,
- 28:01you know, taking away your stress and all
- 28:03your worries.
- 28:06When we put that fight in, okay, if
- 28:09you don't agree with something, just don't do
- 28:11it.
- 28:11You don't need to get attached to it.
- 28:13See, that's what's causing the challenge for a
- 28:16lot of people.
- 28:17That's what causes the challenge for a lot
- 28:19of people.
- 28:20And knowing the next step can be a
- 28:23problem.
- 28:24And the last point, guys, is clarity.
- 28:26Clarity is emotional intelligence.
- 28:27Clear thinking is emotional mastery.
