- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode fifty seven of Cards
- 0:20Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike cool Art from Rasball, joined as
- 0:23Speaker 1: always by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer, also from Rasball.
- 0:26Speaker 2: How are we doing tonight, Buddy.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Good, Good to be back out. We took a week off,
- 0:31Speaker 3: and I'm ready and chomping at the bits. I know
- 0:32Speaker 3: we got a fun show ahead of us tonight, lots
- 0:34Speaker 3: happening since we didn't jinx anybody last week, So everybody's
- 0:37Speaker 3: healthy and so back ready for some news and notes.
- 0:41Speaker 3: And I know we got a fun second segment ahead
- 0:43Speaker 3: of us tonight, So I'm rar and ready to go.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's gonna be. It is quite the
- 0:49Speaker 1: curse that we've got going now. And so, like I know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: on the Effectively Wild like a podcast, they always talk
- 0:56Speaker 1: about how actually there is a little bit more of
- 0:58Speaker 1: like our reverse jinks, where like I think it's just
- 1:00Speaker 1: like a law of averages baseball, where it's like, oh,
- 1:02Speaker 1: this guy's not playing well and then turns it around.
- 1:05Speaker 1: We are certainly worse than that because we definitely, we
- 1:09Speaker 1: were obviously culpable of the Christ and Yelich back injury
- 1:14Speaker 1: news because it does seem very ominously that every time
- 1:17Speaker 1: we record, maybe moments like after I post it to
- 1:21Speaker 1: a spreaker and just like let it go out injury,
- 1:25Speaker 1: you can almost count on it. So keep that in
- 1:28Speaker 1: mind when you're listening to this that you're just got
- 1:30Speaker 1: to wait for that other shoe to drop. But hopefully
- 1:34Speaker 1: it doesn't affect us too much going into next year.
- 1:36Speaker 1: That's what we're going to do this week is the
- 1:38Speaker 1: main section is going to get into our mock first
- 1:41Speaker 1: round draft that we did this actually around this time
- 1:45Speaker 1: last year. In terms of drafting the first twelve picks,
- 1:49Speaker 1: we only did a twelve team league in our little
- 1:52Speaker 1: back and forth in terms of setting up the twenty
- 1:55Speaker 1: twenty four draft for in August of last year, you
- 1:58Speaker 1: can go back.
- 1:59Speaker 2: It was actually an episode seven.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'll leave that link in the show notes in case
- 2:03Speaker 1: you want to check it out. But this pod, we're
- 2:06Speaker 1: gonna do the first round, first twelve picks for twenty
- 2:10Speaker 1: twenty five, and let's get into it. We got news
- 2:13Speaker 1: and notes and all sorts of things to catch up
- 2:15Speaker 1: on from the last two weeks, so let's cut to
- 2:18Speaker 1: the chase. Because this first guy, I'm sure is going
- 2:20Speaker 1: to go pretty high in our mock draft, and if
- 2:22Speaker 1: you do want to go up back to episode seven,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I did take him in our twenty twenty four first
- 2:26Speaker 1: round draft, and you mocked me when I took them,
- 2:29Speaker 1: but it was Aaron Judge who has now just been
- 2:32Speaker 1: like on absolute fire. Usually we're covering like injuries and
- 2:35Speaker 1: call ups and stuff here, but I figured this is
- 2:38Speaker 1: kind of the time to talk about Aaron Judge because
- 2:40Speaker 1: we haven't. I mean, we've covered him in the Player
- 2:44Speaker 1: of the Month kind of discussions, and honestly, we might
- 2:46Speaker 1: end up with another consideration here this month, as he's
- 2:48Speaker 1: been on fire again and is now up to fifty
- 2:51Speaker 1: one home runs as we speak on August twenty eighth,
- 2:55Speaker 1: Wednesday night, and it's just getting like ubsurd. He's up
- 2:58Speaker 1: to a two twenty five WRC plus with a three
- 3:00Speaker 1: thirty three four sixty six, seven thirty one slash line
- 3:05Speaker 1: a seven thirty one slug is absolutely insane, and it's
- 3:08Speaker 1: just gotten to the point where, I mean, he's going
- 3:11Speaker 1: to make a run at sixty three. Do you think
- 3:13Speaker 1: that Aaron Judge like could one day make a run
- 3:16Speaker 1: at Barry Bonds's seventy three? And what do you also
- 3:20Speaker 1: think kind of as like the holistic view of Aaron
- 3:23Speaker 1: Judge right now. I know it's still kind of earlish
- 3:25Speaker 1: in his career, but he is thirty two going on
- 3:28Speaker 1: thirty three. I think he's on track for a Hall
- 3:32Speaker 1: of Fame career. But I kind of wanted to get
- 3:34Speaker 1: like your thoughts and give you the space to see
- 3:36Speaker 1: what you think about Aaron Judge.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, he's been absolutely phenomenal this this year,
- 3:41Speaker 3: and you know, i'd say the last few years he's
- 3:44Speaker 3: been absolutely phenomenal outside of he did miss some time
- 3:46Speaker 3: last year, so you know, I got to get to
- 3:49Speaker 3: dig in for his injury history. But you know, he
- 3:52Speaker 3: is one of those guys that could threaten like don't
- 3:56Speaker 3: I don't know that he is the same level as
- 3:59Speaker 3: Bonds was, and he hit you know, his record breaking season,
- 4:04Speaker 3: but at the same time, of anybody can go after it,
- 4:07Speaker 3: it's probably him recognizing he's got that lineup protection there,
- 4:12Speaker 3: uh with Sodo that definitely is helping him this year.
- 4:16Speaker 3: He's going to see better pitches to hit. So I
- 4:19Speaker 3: don't think he ever really makes a true run at it,
- 4:21Speaker 3: but it's not out of the realm of possibility. You know,
- 4:24Speaker 3: He's got a little luck on his side this year,
- 4:27Speaker 3: he's got the little babit bluck. He's got a little
- 4:29Speaker 3: home run luck. Like, so it's it's all adding up,
- 4:33Speaker 3: but he's making the majority of that luck himself. Right,
- 4:36Speaker 3: He's he's hitting the ball incredibly hard, and he's looked really,
- 4:38Speaker 3: really strong from an overall career perspective. I I've seen
- 4:43Speaker 3: a lot of posts on social media comparing him to
- 4:45Speaker 3: like Mike Trout and Albert Poohols and all these guys
- 4:49Speaker 3: saying like Aaron Judge is better than the rest of
- 4:51Speaker 3: them and all all these things, and I'm like, I'm
- 4:54Speaker 3: not gonna go that far. Like he's had a few
- 4:56Speaker 3: unbelievable seasons, but you have to remember this is a
- 4:58Speaker 3: guy that if you look at like true like good seasons,
- 5:02Speaker 3: he's had three, like I mean true, like top of
- 5:07Speaker 3: the shelf seasons like Albert Poolhole has had ten in
- 5:10Speaker 3: a row to start his career. Judge has had i'll
- 5:14Speaker 3: say three good, really strong seasons where he had one
- 5:17Speaker 3: hundred RBIs one hundred runs, you know, more than fifty
- 5:20Speaker 3: homers hit, you know, hitting about three hundred. Don't get
- 5:23Speaker 3: me wrong. Other seasons where he's hit twenty seven or
- 5:26Speaker 3: thirty nine, like those were still good seasons, but he
- 5:30Speaker 3: has had a lot more of that roller coaster, a
- 5:31Speaker 3: lot more of those injuries. And I almost want to
- 5:35Speaker 3: compare him to Mike Trout to a degree, because Trout
- 5:38Speaker 3: strung all these seasons together with just amazing capability and
- 5:43Speaker 3: just but now he's kind of trailing off. The injuries
- 5:45Speaker 3: have just mounted up. You can kind of look at
- 5:48Speaker 3: Judges the same way if you just stacked all those
- 5:50Speaker 3: amazing seasons together and then put the injuries on the back.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Like he the amount of time that he had in
- 5:57Speaker 3: just those great seasons has not been that long. And
- 6:00Speaker 3: you have to remember he didn't come up that early,
- 6:03Speaker 3: and he had a full twenty seven games in his
- 6:07Speaker 3: twenty four year old season, and so now he is
- 6:12Speaker 3: like he's hitting the back back in his career. At
- 6:14Speaker 3: this point, He's he'll be thirty three early next season,
- 6:18Speaker 3: and yeah, you still have probably number of good years left.
- 6:22Speaker 3: But if you talk started talking about injuries catching up
- 6:25Speaker 3: to guys like Judge has been there many times before,
- 6:29Speaker 3: so that that's what kind of holds me back. I
- 6:31Speaker 3: think he needs like he's not a Hall of Famer
- 6:33Speaker 3: right now. To me, he hasn't He hasn't done it enough.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Give him another two three seasons like this and then
- 6:40Speaker 3: some like downward trend but decent health. Yes, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 3: but he's gonna have to hit I think about five
- 6:46Speaker 3: hundred doors to make sure that that he's in that conversation.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think I'm a little bit more
- 6:53Speaker 1: bullshit bullish on the overall trajectory for him making the
- 6:59Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, because I mean, he's already at fifty
- 7:01Speaker 1: fangrafts war, which is once you start getting past fifty
- 7:05Speaker 1: and getting it like you're in the conversation sixty is
- 7:08Speaker 1: pretty much like when you start getting into hey, you're
- 7:11Speaker 1: pretty much set, and then like anything into the seventies
- 7:15Speaker 1: and eighties is a really really like top position player
- 7:19Speaker 1: there and then beyond eighty and ninety like you're in
- 7:21Speaker 1: the inner circle from there. Plus on top of it,
- 7:24Speaker 1: he's already posted his third fifty home run season. It
- 7:28Speaker 1: it's only been done four times before him, So Babe
- 7:32Speaker 1: Ruth four times, McGuire four times, Sosa four times, and
- 7:35Speaker 1: a Rod three times.
- 7:36Speaker 2: So you're not in your case.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Only one of those guys made the Hall of Fame.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah, extenuating circumstances.
- 7:43Speaker 1: But you put that together along with just a little
- 7:47Speaker 1: bit of like offensive era adjustment to that he is
- 7:50Speaker 1: the one guy doing this right now. I mean obviously
- 7:53Speaker 1: the twenty nineteen like rabbit ball year is a part
- 7:58Speaker 1: of like his career. And I mean even then he
- 8:01Speaker 1: only played one hundred games and got twenty seven homers
- 8:03Speaker 1: that year, So it's not like that's really inflating his
- 8:05Speaker 1: overall line that, especially when you talk about the peaks,
- 8:08Speaker 1: that's really gonna be a lot of like what judge,
- 8:12Speaker 1: I think it's going to be helped to buy. But
- 8:14Speaker 1: I think honestly we're not too far off either because
- 8:16Speaker 1: like once you said, like hey, two or three more years,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I do think like, yeah, if he has like two
- 8:21Speaker 1: more years of fifty homers, and especially like this year,
- 8:24Speaker 1: if he really if he does get to sixty three,
- 8:27Speaker 1: I think that pretty much almost puts him in. And
- 8:31Speaker 1: then like you get another fifty homer season out of him,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I think he's in because at that point you're pretty
- 8:35Speaker 1: much at four hundred homers, you'll be at like fifty
- 8:38Speaker 1: five to sixty war you're looking at a two time MVP,
- 8:42Speaker 1: Like I know, I'm you know, foreshadowing the MVP this year,
- 8:46Speaker 1: because I do think he's gonna edge out just because like.
- 8:51Speaker 2: He's got it.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I mean, the WRCs plus starts with a two, like
- 8:55Speaker 1: you've got to and so that, like, especially given what
- 9:01Speaker 1: he's just meant to the Yankees, and I mean, once
- 9:03Speaker 1: all sudden done, you're staring down the barrel of also
- 9:06Speaker 1: like one hundred and fifty, one hundred and sixty RBI.
- 9:09Speaker 1: It's gonna be I think, quite the dramatic viewing experience
- 9:14Speaker 1: here down the stretch watching Aaron Judges. He just really
- 9:17Speaker 1: kind of chases all these things. Because, yeah, I guess
- 9:21Speaker 1: we can also discuss him next week because it's his
- 9:24Speaker 1: August has been quite bonkers. He's hit twelve homers, hit
- 9:27Speaker 1: bat at four thirteen as we're speaking, over twenty three games,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and so yeah, I think we'll probably end up discussing
- 9:34Speaker 1: him next week in our Player of the Month PC
- 9:36Speaker 1: and putting in some more Aaron Judge cards. It's gonna
- 9:39Speaker 1: turn into an Aaron Judge PC.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna go. I'm gonna need to sell some
- 9:43Speaker 3: of that PC to pay for that.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, Well, on the other end of the spectrum,
- 9:48Speaker 1: the other bit of fun news that we had over
- 9:50Speaker 1: this past week was Danny Jansen, catcher for the Boston
- 9:53Speaker 1: Red Sox, appearing in the same game that he had
- 9:56Speaker 1: already been playing in for the Blue Jays, so it
- 9:59Speaker 1: was a rain delayed game that like, it's also something
- 10:04Speaker 1: that couldn't happen in the past because you had to
- 10:06Speaker 1: be able to like have the COVID restrictions kind of
- 10:10Speaker 1: come and play in terms of they've still been carrying
- 10:12Speaker 1: that forward from twenty twenty where you can suspend an
- 10:15Speaker 1: early game and then pick it up later in the season.
- 10:18Speaker 2: So that is a little bit of like a factor here.
- 10:21Speaker 1: But it is crazy to me that something like this
- 10:24Speaker 1: has never happened, especially considering just like the litany of
- 10:29Speaker 1: crazy injuries have happened in baseball, the crazy transactions, there
- 10:32Speaker 1: have been players who've played like multiple games in the
- 10:36Speaker 1: same day with different teams and including getting hits with them,
- 10:41Speaker 1: and so like playing in the same game was accomplished
- 10:44Speaker 1: for the first time here by Danny Jansen, and technically
- 10:47Speaker 1: was like the catcher and the batter at the same time,
- 10:51Speaker 1: because it was like even crazier because he got replaced
- 10:54Speaker 1: he was behind the plate and then the count was
- 10:58Speaker 1: oh one against Rhees McGuire, the now designated catcher for the.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Red Sox, and took his place.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I think this has just also been really funny because
- 11:09Speaker 1: it's like funny to see the jocksposition of like the
- 11:12Speaker 1: social media blitz from baseball in terms of going from
- 11:15Speaker 1: Aaron Judge and then the whiplash to turning Danny Jansen
- 11:19Speaker 1: into this semi start.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Even though like this it's just like such a stupid.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Little like dumb baseball quirk that something like this can
- 11:27Speaker 1: happen that it's part of like, and I think that
- 11:30Speaker 1: Jocks position is this is what draws me to baseball,
- 11:33Speaker 1: Like you have these behemoths, these gods like Aaron Judge
- 11:36Speaker 1: who just like look otherworldly playing this game, and then
- 11:40Speaker 1: you have just weirdo history facts like Danny Jansen getting
- 11:45Speaker 1: into the same game for two different teams for like
- 11:48Speaker 1: the first time ever after one hundred and fifty years
- 11:50Speaker 1: of baseball and tens of thousands of games. So yeah,
- 11:55Speaker 1: I didn't know if you had any thoughts on this
- 11:57Speaker 1: Danny Jansen moment.
- 11:58Speaker 2: And are you picking up the tops Now card? Yeah?
- 12:02Speaker 3: I hadn't considered the tops Now card, but the second second,
- 12:06Speaker 3: thoughts here, I might have to go do that, but no,
- 12:08Speaker 3: I actually I think you're right there with you. There's
- 12:10Speaker 3: the thought I had. It was like, this is why
- 12:12Speaker 3: I love the game. This is why I love the
- 12:14Speaker 3: game of baseball, because, like I feel like, every time
- 12:16Speaker 3: you go to the ballpark, you truly do have an
- 12:18Speaker 3: opportunity to see something nobody's ever seen. And I feel
- 12:21Speaker 3: like I've I've been to some incredible games in my life,
- 12:25Speaker 3: and I can sit here and remember, like this probably
- 12:29Speaker 3: never happened, what ever happened? Again, this a game that
- 12:31Speaker 3: I went to. And that's kind of what this Danny
- 12:34Speaker 3: Jansen thing is like. It's it's this really weird work
- 12:37Speaker 3: that you were at at the game and you you
- 12:40Speaker 3: can tell that story to somebody later. It's like, hey,
- 12:43Speaker 3: I attend to the only game in the history of
- 12:45Speaker 3: Major League Baseball where the same player played for both teams.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Figure that one out, Like that is that's the beauty
- 12:52Speaker 3: of this game. And it's it's quirked, it's fun, it's
- 12:56Speaker 3: you know, that's how some players end up in the
- 12:58Speaker 3: record books forever. Yeah, there's always the weird stats, like well,
- 13:02Speaker 3: this is the first time he hit a home run
- 13:04Speaker 3: when you know the wind is blowing in from right
- 13:06Speaker 3: field at seven twenty nine at night, Like there's always
- 13:09Speaker 3: the weird stats like that has never happened before. It's
- 13:12Speaker 3: like because you manufactured a stat, right, but this is
- 13:15Speaker 3: truly like a legitimate thing that to your point, like
- 13:19Speaker 3: it feels like it should have happened before. But like
- 13:21Speaker 3: the rules, like the trades, like just it just didn't align.
- 13:25Speaker 3: And so when it did happen, just like I didn't.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I didn't realize that could happen. And the fact that
- 13:32Speaker 3: he was like he was catching while he was hitting
- 13:35Speaker 3: was just like this the kind of the craziest thing,
- 13:38Speaker 3: like how does how does that work? So I love it, glad.
- 13:44Speaker 3: I feel like we're gonna have to spend a pod
- 13:46Speaker 3: sometime telling them our craziest nobody over see this again
- 13:50Speaker 3: at a game of baseball that we've experienced, But that's
- 13:53Speaker 3: for another day.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, we've seen so much now at this point.
- 13:56Speaker 1: But yeah, if you're looking for some good reads on
- 13:58Speaker 1: that too, I've got a couple of good at story
- 14:00Speaker 1: So I'll leave those links in the show notes. Anything
- 14:03Speaker 1: else that we discussed also in the show notes, and
- 14:05Speaker 1: you can also find links to some of our gear
- 14:08Speaker 1: in there. And then if you are listening to us
- 14:10Speaker 1: for the first time and or have been listening to
- 14:13Speaker 1: us for a while and haven't rated and reviewed us
- 14:15Speaker 1: wherever you are doing so, we really appreciate if you
- 14:18Speaker 1: do that on you know, Apple Podcasts or Spotify or whatever,
- 14:21Speaker 1: So certainly do that if you've got the time to
- 14:25Speaker 1: do so.
- 14:25Speaker 2: So yeah, with those little pieces, let's get into our
- 14:28Speaker 2: normal news and notes.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And again, like we had a couple of weeks ago,
- 14:32Speaker 1: we've got another kind of set of call ups. As
- 14:36Speaker 1: the prospects that are on you know, I would say
- 14:39Speaker 1: more of the middling kind of looking forward to twenty
- 14:42Speaker 1: twenty five. Teams are testing out some of their you know,
- 14:45Speaker 1: high end prospects to see how they can stick.
- 14:48Speaker 3: In the bigs.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And the biggest star that we've had come up so
- 14:53Speaker 1: far is last year's number two overall pick, Dylan Cruz.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Has debuted for the Washington Nationals, picked up his first
- 15:00Speaker 1: two hits and A Stolen Base last night, and tonight
- 15:03Speaker 1: picked up his first film Run. So he has hit
- 15:06Speaker 1: the ground running and has been looking honestly like he
- 15:09Speaker 1: fits right into that National Nationals line up there in
- 15:13Speaker 1: Washington should be playing right field and did get the
- 15:16Speaker 1: call up because Alex call went on the injured list.
- 15:19Speaker 1: But if Dylan Cruz keeps playing like this, I don't
- 15:22Speaker 1: see him losing this spot until he hits free agency.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Maybe for Washington. But what have you seen now Dylan
- 15:29Speaker 2: Cruz so far?
- 15:30Speaker 1: And what do you think that this kind of means
- 15:32Speaker 1: for his value going into twenty twenty five?
- 15:35Speaker 3: Yeah, this this has the writings of why at Langford
- 15:39Speaker 3: all over it to.
- 15:41Speaker 2: For me like your way or a bad way in.
- 15:45Speaker 3: A good way the the preseason, why at Langford? Not
- 15:49Speaker 3: the today? Why at Langford? You know who's you know,
- 15:54Speaker 3: he kind of flew through the minors. He was, you know,
- 15:57Speaker 3: a great all all American kind of player at LSU,
- 16:03Speaker 3: and so you know, if it wasn't for this guy,
- 16:06Speaker 3: that's pretty okay, Paul Skans being first overall, he probably
- 16:09Speaker 3: would have been the number one pick last year. And
- 16:13Speaker 3: like he just seems it took maybe felt like a
- 16:16Speaker 3: little while to kind of get his ground his legs
- 16:18Speaker 3: under him in the minors. But like since since then,
- 16:21Speaker 3: he's been just a fantastic power speed threat, hits for average,
- 16:26Speaker 3: doesn't like strike out too much. Like, very very stolid player.
- 16:30Speaker 3: He kind of makes me think of, to a degree,
- 16:34Speaker 3: kind of a Kyle Tucker type type player, you know,
- 16:39Speaker 3: not not necessarily the way they play, but just the profile.
- 16:42Speaker 3: And I think to your point, he's up, and he's
- 16:45Speaker 3: up for good, and they're gonna give him a good
- 16:47Speaker 3: month here to play. And I really think the Nationals
- 16:51Speaker 3: are kind of trying to reset from a kind of
- 16:53Speaker 3: a youth movement perspective with with James Wood, with Dylan Cruz,
- 16:58Speaker 3: with j Abrams like and really just set a core
- 17:01Speaker 3: to kind of go forward and kind of maybe not
- 17:05Speaker 3: next year but the year after, kind of trying to
- 17:08Speaker 3: get themselves back into the ball game. And so I
- 17:10Speaker 3: think that's what they're trying to do. Break the ice. Now,
- 17:14Speaker 3: get these guys up. There's not any worries for both
- 17:17Speaker 3: of them out free agency, and I'm just gonna be
- 17:21Speaker 3: really intrigued if he does play well the rest of
- 17:23Speaker 3: the season, where does he go in drafts next year?
- 17:26Speaker 3: And that's why that Langford comp is really interesting because
- 17:31Speaker 3: it's going to last year we were all burned because
- 17:34Speaker 3: we were too soft in Corby and Carol and now
- 17:37Speaker 3: we all went after why Langford and then Carroll himself
- 17:41Speaker 3: kind of fell off, and I was like, oh, maybe
- 17:43Speaker 3: we got a little too aggressive, right, And so it's
- 17:45Speaker 3: this yoyo effect. So I actually think if Cruz scuff
- 17:49Speaker 3: was a little here, he actually might be a really
- 17:51Speaker 3: interesting by low going into drafts, unless he just sets
- 17:55Speaker 3: the world on fire the rest of the season because
- 17:57Speaker 3: he's just not gonna get that much attention in DC.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I could see that happening in I mean,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I do think it will be tough for people to
- 18:08Speaker 1: maybe parse out, like why at Langford's injury track this
- 18:12Speaker 1: year too, that that's really slowed him down, and when
- 18:14Speaker 1: he's not injured, he looks good, and so like, I
- 18:17Speaker 1: think that could scare people away from Cruise and getting
- 18:21Speaker 1: to hype on him going into next year, and so
- 18:25Speaker 1: you know, maybe that could temper the price a little bit.
- 18:27Speaker 1: But I don't know how much that will happen, because
- 18:32Speaker 1: people love prospects, and if he hits really well here
- 18:35Speaker 1: down the stretch and has a good spring, Cruise is
- 18:38Speaker 1: going to be flying up draft boards because especially he
- 18:41Speaker 1: brings that speed element to where it reminds me a
- 18:46Speaker 1: little bit of like what Mooki was when he came
- 18:49Speaker 1: up when Mooki Bets kind of came up that like,
- 18:51Speaker 1: I don't know if Cruse is going to quite hit
- 18:54Speaker 1: the power peak that Mooki Bets will in terms of
- 18:57Speaker 1: like when he gets into his career, but just a
- 18:59Speaker 1: little bit more more of like a well rounded line
- 19:02Speaker 1: drive approach, and then we'll see, like, if Cruz does
- 19:06Speaker 1: grow into the power, we could be seeing somebody who's
- 19:09Speaker 1: a pretty top of the order, perennial thirty to thirty
- 19:13Speaker 1: type of guy.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, like you said, Kyle Tucker, Mookie Batts a.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Little bit of like that accumulator ish type player slash yep.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Just love those good solid yeah, good solid set of
- 19:25Speaker 1: skills that I think he'll age pretty well. And so yeah,
- 19:28Speaker 1: exciting times there in Washington. All Right, we got a
- 19:32Speaker 1: couple of more call ups. The next one actually hasn't
- 19:35Speaker 1: happened yet, so it's going to be happening this Friday.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Louder for the Cincinnati Reds is going to be debuting.
- 19:40Speaker 1: This is another first round pick from last year, the
- 19:42Speaker 1: number seven picks. So at this point we have I
- 19:46Speaker 1: guess I should actually just maybe look at the actual
- 19:50Speaker 1: draft list instead of trying to remember it live on
- 19:54Speaker 1: here but I mean that's going to give us in
- 19:56Speaker 1: terms of schemes and Langford and Cruise and Jacob Wilson
- 20:04Speaker 1: is up and so Rhet Lauder will be up. That'll
- 20:07Speaker 1: leave just Max Clark and Walker Jenkins of the top
- 20:10Speaker 1: seven that haven't been called up yet. And those were
- 20:13Speaker 1: both high schoolers draft last year. Kind of odd, it's
- 20:16Speaker 1: kind of crazy. But Rhetlouder has been fantastic for the
- 20:21Speaker 1: Reds in Double A and Triple A over especially if
- 20:24Speaker 1: you look over the last eight starts he's made going
- 20:28Speaker 1: back to the beginning of July, He's thrown forty four
- 20:30Speaker 1: and a third with a one sixty two RAIRA forty
- 20:33Speaker 1: two strikeouts to nine walks. That he's just been blowing
- 20:38Speaker 1: hitters away since the beginning of July. And it's really
- 20:40Speaker 1: time for the Reds to bring him up and see
- 20:42Speaker 1: if he can be a part of that twenty twenty
- 20:43Speaker 1: five rotation. What do you what sort of league depth
- 20:47Speaker 1: are you picking up Rhet Louder in for this year?
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean for this year. You know, I'm timber
- 20:54Speaker 3: my expectations a little bit. I think long term, Louder
- 20:56Speaker 3: is probably a mid rotation type guy, maybe scratching at
- 21:00Speaker 3: number two type if if he you know, puts all together,
- 21:04Speaker 3: because I don't think he's the biggest strikeout guy. Like,
- 21:07Speaker 3: he does have some good stuff. He has a pretty
- 21:09Speaker 3: nasty slider, but he's not the guy that's to strike
- 21:12Speaker 3: out eleven, twelve, thirteen guys per nine. He's gonna be
- 21:15Speaker 3: scratching it, you know, a strikeout per inning type of guy.
- 21:18Speaker 3: He is a little bit more of a pitch to
- 21:20Speaker 3: contact type of profile, really a ground ball pitcher. So
- 21:26Speaker 3: I think that that's gonna kind of hold him back
- 21:29Speaker 3: from a maybe a fancy perspective to a slight degree.
- 21:32Speaker 3: But I will absolutely take it, Like I'm really excited
- 21:35Speaker 3: about where he can go. I just think the ceiling
- 21:37Speaker 3: is not what you might say for a hey, number
- 21:39Speaker 3: seven overall starting pitcher, came out of college, you know,
- 21:43Speaker 3: he should be a potential number one, Like I think
- 21:45Speaker 3: everybody thinks everybody's gonna be a number one, right so
- 21:48Speaker 3: I but the rest of this year, I think if
- 21:51Speaker 3: you're aiming for mid to back rotation, it's it's definitely
- 21:54Speaker 3: worth worth giving an investment. It is hard to know
- 21:58Speaker 3: when you know, coming up pitching Cincinnati, that's a tough
- 22:00Speaker 3: place to pitch, but with his profile, keeping the ball
- 22:05Speaker 3: and ground, he does have some of the best likelihood
- 22:08Speaker 3: of succeeding in that ballpark. It could only be worse
- 22:11Speaker 3: if you were a Chase Dallender there, one of the
- 22:13Speaker 3: other top tens from last year in the Colorado that
- 22:16Speaker 3: would give you a little bit more hesitation. So I
- 22:21Speaker 3: like Clouder. I am targeting him more in a keeper
- 22:25Speaker 3: dynasty type a format than a redraft. I just you're
- 22:30Speaker 3: talking probably five starts here, five six starts, and it's
- 22:33Speaker 3: probably not enough to really really get me too excited
- 22:37Speaker 3: about investing.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and it is going to be a tough schedule
- 22:41Speaker 1: I think for him too, because I'm looking at the
- 22:43Speaker 1: red schedule right now. When he debuts this Friday, it
- 22:46Speaker 1: will be at home against Milwaukee, not a great matchup.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Then he will be at home likely against Houston, also
- 22:53Speaker 1: brutal matchup, possibly on the road against the Braves or
- 22:57Speaker 1: the Cardinals. The Braves would be a tough match up,
- 22:59Speaker 1: the Cars would not, And then Braves at home and
- 23:06Speaker 1: maybe Guardians on the road. So it is a little
- 23:09Speaker 1: bit of a tough stretch there for Ret Louder. But
- 23:11Speaker 1: I mean if you're desperate for pitching, I think you
- 23:13Speaker 1: can pick him up and see what he gives you.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I don't know if i'd be starting him this Friday
- 23:18Speaker 1: against Milwaukee at home and just the first start Jitters,
- 23:22Speaker 1: And I'm not big on trying to trust guys when
- 23:24Speaker 1: they're debuting like that, but I think he can be
- 23:27Speaker 1: a decent arm and worth picking up in any league,
- 23:31Speaker 1: any you know, league size, just because like at this
- 23:34Speaker 1: point we've got you know, people like Matt Waldron going down,
- 23:37Speaker 1: sent to the miners and all sorts of just like
- 23:39Speaker 1: injuries and people being shut down, you know, Garrett Crochet
- 23:43Speaker 1: schemes even that. If you're just looking for a decent arm,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I think Rehet Louder can be that. So certainly somebody
- 23:50Speaker 1: to keep an eye on.
- 23:51Speaker 3: No push you to the test, Zebbi, Matthews or Rehet
- 23:55Speaker 3: Louder rest of the season.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Zebby For me.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Here, I just the floor is higher, yes, so and
- 24:05Speaker 3: better team, yeah, you know details it's it helps when
- 24:09Speaker 3: you walk like one guy every five starts.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think we'd both rather have both
- 24:14Speaker 1: of them over this next guy we're going to discuss.
- 24:16Speaker 1: But this guy's intrigued me for a while, and that
- 24:19Speaker 1: is Ti Madden from the Detroit Tigers was called up.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Mid made his debut and was okay, Like he only
- 24:27Speaker 1: allowed a run over the five innings, but he had
- 24:30Speaker 1: more walks than strikeouts, and that's really been I would say,
- 24:34Speaker 1: like the biggest issue with tid madness he's been coming through.
- 24:37Speaker 1: You know, he did quell the walks a little bit
- 24:39Speaker 1: and as repeat of Double A again at the beginning
- 24:43Speaker 1: of this year, but they came back in Triple A.
- 24:45Speaker 1: So at Triple A, I mean, he even had a
- 24:48Speaker 1: seven ninety seven are at Triple A over seventy nine innings.
- 24:51Speaker 1: But it's the strikeout stuff that he throws that you're
- 24:54Speaker 1: really interested in. He know, he had eleven point six
- 24:58Speaker 1: at K nine at Triple A what with four and
- 25:00Speaker 1: a half walks. Has always had really just great stuff
- 25:05Speaker 1: in terms of like a good slider, a great fastball,
- 25:08Speaker 1: and throws five pitches between fastball, slider, curveball, change up, cutter,
- 25:12Speaker 1: which has been I think why the Tigers haven't moved
- 25:15Speaker 1: Madden to the bullpen yet is that they're hoping that
- 25:18Speaker 1: that profile can play up in the starting rotation a
- 25:21Speaker 1: little bit. And on top of it too beautiful home
- 25:25Speaker 1: park to pitch in. So those have been a little
- 25:29Speaker 1: bit like the factors where I've always been interested in Madden.
- 25:31Speaker 1: In our Auto New League and our keeper leagues that
- 25:35Speaker 1: we have together, He's always like been like one or
- 25:38Speaker 1: two hairs away from being auction for me because I've
- 25:41Speaker 1: always loved the profile coming through the miners.
- 25:44Speaker 2: But I want to see, like, what do you think
- 25:46Speaker 2: about Ti Matten?
- 25:46Speaker 1: Do you think that this is the type of I
- 25:49Speaker 1: think I already know the answer, But is this the
- 25:51Speaker 1: type of profile that you sign up for or is
- 25:53Speaker 1: it somebody that you need to see it happen in
- 25:56Speaker 1: the big leagues before you invest.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you know where I'm going. This is absolutely the
- 26:01Speaker 3: type of guy that I need to see it in
- 26:02Speaker 3: the big leads before I invest. Even then I'm pretty
- 26:05Speaker 3: hesitant to invest. You know, it comes down to he's
- 26:09Speaker 3: a guy that control is very, very unlikely to self correct.
- 26:17Speaker 3: You know, there are guys that tweaks. They maybe figure
- 26:20Speaker 3: out pitching from Jeffer side of the rubber or something
- 26:22Speaker 3: like that, or they ditch a certain pitch and their
- 26:25Speaker 3: control drastically improves, but it's it's usually pretty few and
- 26:28Speaker 3: far between, and he's he's always been a guy that
- 26:31Speaker 3: kind of struggled with the control. He also is the
- 26:34Speaker 3: guy that always kind of struggled with with the long ball.
- 26:37Speaker 3: He puts in the air lots, and so you got
- 26:39Speaker 3: a guy I guess that's the disaster of the guy
- 26:42Speaker 3: that has a blow up. He walks to guys, gives
- 26:46Speaker 3: up a home run, then like and then strikes out
- 26:48Speaker 3: the side and they're like, oh, he's settled in. Next
- 26:51Speaker 3: any he strikes a guy out, walks a guy, little blooper,
- 26:54Speaker 3: another long ball, and now all of a sudden you're
- 26:56Speaker 3: out when ending and a third with six eerned run
- 26:58Speaker 3: and you're sitting here, how.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Did that happen?
- 27:00Speaker 3: Like that? That's that's time maddened to me, and so
- 27:04Speaker 3: I need to see it happen. There's guys that can
- 27:06Speaker 3: make that profile work. Don't get me wrong, There are
- 27:08Speaker 3: absolutely guys that make that profile work. But I got
- 27:12Speaker 3: to see it to believe it, and I'm generally not
- 27:15Speaker 3: gonna I'm by the time I believe that somebody else
- 27:18Speaker 3: has already bought in is my problem. So not that
- 27:21Speaker 3: I won't actually eventually pick him up, but somebody else
- 27:23Speaker 3: is already gonna beat.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Me to it.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that makes sense, and I think for
- 27:26Speaker 1: me it is more of like a I would stream
- 27:29Speaker 1: the starts at home, especially like giving that profile with
- 27:32Speaker 1: the home runs and the and the fly balls that
- 27:34Speaker 1: like those do not leave the park in Detroit, so
- 27:38Speaker 1: that's a great place to look for a stream and
- 27:40Speaker 1: especially if he can give you those strikeouts. And then
- 27:42Speaker 1: otherwise I would say, like in a keeper or a
- 27:45Speaker 1: Dynasty situation, like I'm certainly adding him and watching him
- 27:49Speaker 1: if I need to. Otherwise, I will like always have
- 27:52Speaker 1: him as like, hey, he's maybe like in the mix
- 27:56Speaker 1: of the next set of guys that I'm adding an Auterne,
- 27:58Speaker 1: and I think that's where he'll kind of be until
- 28:02Speaker 1: I see a little bit of it happened in the majors,
- 28:05Speaker 1: because this is also the type of profile where he
- 28:08Speaker 1: could come out in the spring of twenty twenty five,
- 28:10Speaker 1: have a great spring, win that rotation spot in Detroit,
- 28:14Speaker 1: and then really kind of take off as somebody that
- 28:16Speaker 1: you can certainly stream at home and let him feast
- 28:19Speaker 1: on Ale Central opponents.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Yeah, if I'm picking him up now, it's it's I'm
- 28:23Speaker 3: in rebuilt mode in the Dynasty and I'm hoping he
- 28:26Speaker 3: goes lights out for the rest of the season, and
- 28:28Speaker 3: I'm flipping him the off.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Season, So yeah, I got you, I won't.
- 28:32Speaker 3: I won't have the shares all right.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Next guy that we have getting called up is not
- 28:36Speaker 1: a rookie, maybe the first thing we've ever had from
- 28:39Speaker 1: a rookie as the forty nine year old or no,
- 28:42Speaker 1: and he's not forty nine year old.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I was getting nine.
- 28:50Speaker 1: It was the nineteen years. It's his twentieth year once
- 28:52Speaker 1: he makes his debut this season. But the forty four
- 28:54Speaker 1: year old rich Hill Dick Mountain himself is coming back
- 28:57Speaker 1: with the Boston Red Sox. He was added to the
- 29:00Speaker 1: roster yesterday and should be in long relief. He's still
- 29:04Speaker 1: kind of getting stretched out working his way back as
- 29:07Speaker 1: he's been down in the minors.
- 29:10Speaker 2: But I mean, just first off, kudos to Rachell.
- 29:16Speaker 1: This is so great, Like it gives confidence to all
- 29:19Speaker 1: of us out there that you know, he can perpetually
- 29:22Speaker 1: be older than so many people.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Then in you know, it's like.
- 29:27Speaker 1: One of those delineary delineations where like, once you start
- 29:32Speaker 1: getting older than everybody in Major League Baseball, that's when
- 29:35Speaker 1: you're starting to get really old.
- 29:36Speaker 2: But Richill helping us out for a little bit longer.
- 29:39Speaker 1: And also I will be intrigued, like if he's got
- 29:44Speaker 1: a good matchup coming down the stretch. This is kind
- 29:46Speaker 1: of like the type of like weird Lightning and Bottle
- 29:49Speaker 1: where it just might work, Like Richell might go out
- 29:52Speaker 1: there and like get a matchup against the Rays and
- 29:55Speaker 1: just absolutely shred them. That something I'm going to be watching.
- 29:58Speaker 1: But I can't wait to see Richill. Do you have
- 30:01Speaker 1: any thoughts on on rich Hill and how much longer
- 30:04Speaker 1: do you think he can pitch?
- 30:06Speaker 3: Well? I have to, you know, admire the approach he took.
- 30:09Speaker 3: It sounds like he had offers in the offseason and
- 30:11Speaker 3: come back and he goes, Nope, I'm going to take
- 30:14Speaker 3: some time off and I know somebody's gonna need me
- 30:16Speaker 3: later and I'll play pay for play for just about whatever.
- 30:19Speaker 3: And I want to play in the playoffs. So we'll
- 30:22Speaker 3: figure out who's gonna need me at the time and
- 30:24Speaker 3: who's kind of in competition, who's making them Like I,
- 30:26Speaker 3: I have to admire the the guts and the gall
- 30:30Speaker 3: to play play in that in that world. So I
- 30:35Speaker 3: do appreciate rich Hill. I've always liked the profile that
- 30:38Speaker 3: always like seems like he's just almost valuable from a
- 30:41Speaker 3: fancy perspective. And I also get a kick out of
- 30:44Speaker 3: you know, in his career, he's only gone over one
- 30:49Speaker 3: hundred and forty innings three times, So he was talking
- 30:53Speaker 3: about a guy that, like, he's been around twenty years
- 30:55Speaker 3: and so you think durability, but he's only done that,
- 30:58Speaker 3: and only one of those times before he turned forty.
- 31:02Speaker 3: He did that one he was twenty seven years old,
- 31:04Speaker 3: and the next time he eclipsed one hundred and forty
- 31:07Speaker 3: innings was in twenty twenty one. He took him fourteen
- 31:12Speaker 3: years between seasons one hundred and forty innings, So he's
- 31:18Speaker 3: still got some he's still got some miles on that
- 31:20Speaker 3: arm as well. I guess what I'm getting too.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Absolutely, So we'll see how that works out for Richell
- 31:27Speaker 1: going forward for the rest of the season. And yeah,
- 31:30Speaker 1: I really do hope that he gets a full start
- 31:32Speaker 1: so I can write about him in the Waiver Wire
- 31:33Speaker 1: column at least once.
- 31:35Speaker 2: That'd be great.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Okay, now we're just going to move into the injuries,
- 31:40Speaker 1: so get out those tissues as we you know, get
- 31:44Speaker 1: into some sad news here. And the first bit that
- 31:47Speaker 1: we have is third baseman from the Atlanta Braves. Austin
- 31:50Speaker 1: Riley suffered a fractured hand. Should be out six to
- 31:54Speaker 1: eight weeks, which pretty much ends the twenty twenty four
- 31:58Speaker 1: regular season for him. Even getting back for the playoffs
- 32:01Speaker 1: at this point will be tough, I think for Riley
- 32:03Speaker 1: in his stead, the absolutely snake bitten Atlanta Braves. I
- 32:07Speaker 1: don't know if I've seen a team that's kind of
- 32:09Speaker 1: like gone through this litany of injuries in terms of
- 32:13Speaker 1: both to I mean on the pitching side, I think
- 32:16Speaker 1: it happens a lot, you know with Spencer Schreider, but
- 32:19Speaker 1: like position players between like Akunya and Albi's and Riley,
- 32:25Speaker 1: and early in the season Murphy was down for a
- 32:28Speaker 1: long time with an oblique So it is just been
- 32:30Speaker 1: a long slog of a season for the Braves. But
- 32:33Speaker 1: they have signed Jill Orchella, who was released by those
- 32:36Speaker 1: Detroit Tigers the other week, to play third base for
- 32:39Speaker 1: Austin Riley. What do you think that this kind of
- 32:43Speaker 1: means for just production out of other Braves in general
- 32:47Speaker 1: at this point, you know, Ozuna and Olsen don't have
- 32:50Speaker 1: too much around them. Michael Harris, I guess is back.
- 32:53Speaker 1: I didn't even mention him in that that list of injuries.
- 32:56Speaker 1: So are you still sticking with players like Ozuna and
- 32:59Speaker 1: Olsen dune straight and thinking that, you know, someone like
- 33:02Speaker 1: g Orshella Ken still sudden enough to keep those counting
- 33:06Speaker 1: stats going for you.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I don't. It hurts them a little bit,
- 33:11Speaker 3: but not enough that I'm really downgrading their overall out
- 33:13Speaker 3: looks just because of the Riley injury. Yeah, Ozuna has
- 33:19Speaker 3: been special all season. I don't think it's fully understandable,
- 33:22Speaker 3: but it's been Marcello Zuna's entire career. And Olsen has
- 33:27Speaker 3: actually has turned it around a little bit more of late.
- 33:29Speaker 3: He seems that he's kind of kind of broke out
- 33:30Speaker 3: of his funk that he had for a number of
- 33:32Speaker 3: months this season. So I actually I think he has
- 33:37Speaker 3: a little brighter outlook the rest of the season, and
- 33:38Speaker 3: he has the whole season despite the Riley injury. But
- 33:42Speaker 3: both of those guys big boppers, guys that are trying
- 33:44Speaker 3: to hit out of the yard. Yeah, it might cost
- 33:47Speaker 3: him an RBI here or there, maybe a little line
- 33:50Speaker 3: of protection, but I'm not downgrading anybody too much. It
- 33:55Speaker 3: is unfortunately, this has been kind of a lost season
- 33:57Speaker 3: for Riley. I do think, you know, he I think
- 34:00Speaker 3: he's gonna fall in drafts next year a bit more
- 34:03Speaker 3: than he probably deserves to. I still look at Riley's
- 34:06Speaker 3: profile and still see him as a top you know,
- 34:09Speaker 3: third third rounder somewhere in there, and maybe you know,
- 34:15Speaker 3: you can stretch maybe a little further as well. But
- 34:18Speaker 3: I wouldn't be shocked to see him going around four
- 34:20Speaker 3: or five something like that, just because of concerns of
- 34:23Speaker 3: what happened in twenty twenty four. So more to see.
- 34:26Speaker 3: We'll see what happens with Riley is and if he
- 34:29Speaker 3: gets back for any playoff run here.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean I do think that he's gonna
- 34:34Speaker 1: go pretty early in drafts just because overall third base
- 34:37Speaker 1: is still pretty thin out there that I don't think
- 34:40Speaker 1: people are gonna be putting too much stock into, you know, drafting.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Like currently an our player raider at ras Ball, you know,
- 34:46Speaker 1: Austin Ryley is the sixteenth overall third baseman behind you know,
- 34:52Speaker 1: some of the likes of like Spencer Steer, Alec Boe,
- 34:55Speaker 1: Michael Garcia, au Heno Suarez, like players like that won't
- 34:59Speaker 1: be getting drag and from Austin Riley. It's a pretty
- 35:02Speaker 1: thin pool, so I think he will be a pretty
- 35:04Speaker 1: hot commodity at the draft table.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Still, they we'll talk about it in the second half here.
- 35:09Speaker 3: This next year's draft looks a little different than what
- 35:12Speaker 3: we've seen in the past few years. The certainty that
- 35:15Speaker 3: we thought we had the depth is waning a little.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah, certainly.
- 35:19Speaker 1: I think a lot of people got scared away by
- 35:22Speaker 1: that Ronald Lacunyan trade too, And it's just it's been
- 35:25Speaker 1: a year of injuries that it will be interesting to
- 35:27Speaker 1: see how it all sorts out, and certainly Riley will
- 35:30Speaker 1: be amongst those when we get into twenty twenty five
- 35:32Speaker 1: draft season. Another injury that we've got here that should
- 35:36Speaker 1: end the players in season is Wilson Contrere's from the
- 35:42Speaker 1: Saint Louis Cardinals. The catcher broke his finger and in
- 35:46Speaker 1: May when he broke his forearm. We were sticking a
- 35:49Speaker 1: fork in the Cardinals. Then they came back a little bit,
- 35:52Speaker 1: but I think this totally sticks the fork and the Cardinals,
- 35:54Speaker 1: and honestly sticks the fork in John Mazzilak and probably
- 35:58Speaker 1: Allie Marble and a lot of other people down there
- 36:00Speaker 1: in Saint Louis it's it's been just another brutal season.
- 36:04Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to also to see like where gold
- 36:07Speaker 1: Schmidt like settles in free agency in terms of does
- 36:10Speaker 1: he get any significant offers or is it just so
- 36:14Speaker 1: bad that he's almost got to like take a Joey
- 36:16Speaker 1: Vadhi route to get his kind of feet underneath him
- 36:20Speaker 1: at an established club. But with this, Yvon Herrera is
- 36:24Speaker 1: coming up and should be splitting time with Pedro Pajes
- 36:27Speaker 1: down the stretch down in Saint Louis.
- 36:30Speaker 2: But almost kind of the same question with Atlanta.
- 36:34Speaker 1: But I agreed with you when you were saying that,
- 36:37Speaker 1: like the players there in that lineup, there's still enough
- 36:40Speaker 1: around them and the talent is still high enough of
- 36:43Speaker 1: a floor that like they can produce for themselves. For
- 36:46Speaker 1: the Cardinals, it's kind of the opposite, right, you know,
- 36:49Speaker 1: you've got Gorman gone now, Mason Wynn is maybe just
- 36:53Speaker 1: about like the only useful fantasy player on the Cardinals
- 36:56Speaker 1: currently that like Arnatto has not been getting the job done,
- 37:00Speaker 1: Goldschmith's not been getting the job done. Burliston has been
- 37:03Speaker 1: struggling really terribly over the past month. That this is
- 37:08Speaker 1: a situation where if you do have Cardinals. It's a
- 37:10Speaker 1: I think a you know, def con is one or
- 37:14Speaker 1: five is the highest comment one.
- 37:16Speaker 3: I think it's five. I think it's what.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I think it's fun. I think it's the opposite.
- 37:22Speaker 1: We'll look this up, but while you look that up,
- 37:25Speaker 1: also think about what you're thinking about these Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 37:30Speaker 1: You're right, so we're in def Con one down in
- 37:33Speaker 1: Saint Louis. I think for this the rest of those
- 37:35Speaker 1: players that, uh, I don't know if I want to
- 37:38Speaker 1: touch any of them.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're right, like it. Mason Win has
- 37:42Speaker 3: probably been the biggest I would say surprise, Like he
- 37:45Speaker 3: the very talented player, and so I think saying surprise
- 37:48Speaker 3: is a stretch for him. But you know, he he's
- 37:51Speaker 3: really coming to his own and what seems to be
- 37:54Speaker 3: an environment where they don't know how to teach hitting
- 37:58Speaker 3: or maintain hitting or whatever, which is saying something for
- 38:01Speaker 3: the team that has the devil magic that they've used
- 38:04Speaker 3: in the past. So I think he gets hurt pretty
- 38:07Speaker 3: substantially here because he's trying to get score runs and
- 38:10Speaker 3: it's just it's almost nothing behind him. At this point,
- 38:13Speaker 3: Aaronado's dropped the lineup. Goldimate to your point is just
- 38:16Speaker 3: hasn't done anything. The only bright spot I'm really excited
- 38:20Speaker 3: about in Saint Louis I just wrote about this last
- 38:23Speaker 3: week is Lars Newbar. I am very much in a
- 38:27Speaker 3: Lars Newbar. If you look at players that have been
- 38:30Speaker 3: unlucky this season and hit the ball hard, and remember,
- 38:33Speaker 3: this is a guy that in the World Baseball Classic
- 38:34Speaker 3: out for Japan was like, you know, the next best
- 38:38Speaker 3: thing out there too, though, hot O Tani facing trout,
- 38:42Speaker 3: you know, and new Bar looks absolutely amazing. He's hitting
- 38:46Speaker 3: the ball hard. He's got probably the biggest differential in
- 38:49Speaker 3: his expected stats from like a sluggin a baty Averer's perspective,
- 38:53Speaker 3: anybody out in baseball. And so I'm probably using this
- 38:56Speaker 3: as a buying opportunity for a guy like Newbar and Dynasty,
- 39:00Speaker 3: because I think everybody is basically out on everybody in
- 39:03Speaker 3: that Cardinal's lineup. But yeah, Contrere's gone, stick of fork
- 39:08Speaker 3: and them there they gotta go packing. The only thing
- 39:11Speaker 3: that I disagree with you is that I just will
- 39:14Speaker 3: not believe until I see it that Mozaella gets fired.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Ollie he's gone, He's gone. Yadier Molina is catch is
- 39:22Speaker 3: coaching the Cardinals next year bench coach Albert Poolhols, And
- 39:29Speaker 3: all I can hope is that we got somebody else
- 39:31Speaker 3: running that front office as well.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a tumultuous off season of like, yeah,
- 39:38Speaker 1: I'm not even sure they're going to make any actually
- 39:40Speaker 1: like great roster moves.
- 39:41Speaker 3: It's just gonna be crazy. Gibson.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Oh gross. Okay.
- 39:48Speaker 1: The other major injury that we've got on the hitter
- 39:51Speaker 1: side this week is Arizona second baseman Kutel Marte has
- 39:55Speaker 1: hit the injured list with a sprained ankle. So he
- 39:59Speaker 1: actually suffer this before he went on the AL, tried
- 40:03Speaker 1: to play through it, but then like reaggravated it on
- 40:06Speaker 1: a swing, which might end up ending his season. Like
- 40:11Speaker 1: it's a little bit of like an unknown situation in
- 40:14Speaker 1: terms of like how this ankle is gonna play out.
- 40:16Speaker 2: As I'm reading about it, you know.
- 40:18Speaker 1: He's trying to get back quickly obviously, because to tell,
- 40:22Speaker 1: Marte is in that MVP conversation in the in l
- 40:25Speaker 1: side with a thirty homers, eighty one ribs, eighty one runs,
- 40:30Speaker 1: and a one fifty one WRC plus on the season.
- 40:34Speaker 1: But I do think that like what do you do
- 40:37Speaker 1: in these sorts of situations on fantasy teams where you've
- 40:40Speaker 1: got somebody on the borderline, especially I'm thinking about like
- 40:44Speaker 1: RCL leagues out there where you've got a very very
- 40:47Speaker 1: short bench where at least like Marte went on the
- 40:52Speaker 1: IL and wasn't like kind of hanging out waiting for
- 40:55Speaker 1: this sprain to heal, which especially used to happen too us,
- 40:59Speaker 1: much more so in the old days when the September
- 41:01Speaker 1: rosters ballooned up to forty people, that you would have
- 41:04Speaker 1: players not going on the IL and you'd have to
- 41:06Speaker 1: roster them. But like, what is your strategy with players
- 41:09Speaker 1: like Catel Marte here where you know what it's going
- 41:12Speaker 1: to be borderline whether or not he makes it back
- 41:14Speaker 1: before the end of the season, especially if you're in
- 41:16Speaker 1: head to head, you know, playoffs, and if you're really
- 41:20Speaker 1: like hard up for a roster spot, what do you
- 41:23Speaker 1: do in situations like this?
- 41:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, assuming there's no keeper of dynasty aspects,
- 41:30Speaker 3: those were to totally redraft. It's it's one of there's
- 41:33Speaker 3: three strategies, and one's terrible and two reviable. The terrible
- 41:38Speaker 3: one is indecision. That's a terrible strategy don't indecision is
- 41:43Speaker 3: going to kill you here. Other strategies are act now
- 41:47Speaker 3: or put all your eggs in that basket of he
- 41:49Speaker 3: is getting back sooner than expect. For me, it's act now.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Like for me, if there's questions, if I'm sitting here going,
- 41:56Speaker 3: I might not get more than a week out of
- 41:58Speaker 3: this guy, I am making a move and I am
- 42:02Speaker 3: cutting bait because the last thing I want to see
- 42:04Speaker 3: at the end of the season is sitting there going. Man,
- 42:07Speaker 3: I was losing games, I was losing opportunities. I didn't
- 42:10Speaker 3: get you know, a few extra hits here and there,
- 42:12Speaker 3: runs here and there, and I lost a head to
- 42:14Speaker 3: head or something like that because I didn't have the
- 42:16Speaker 3: flexibility that that's a problem. And so I think you
- 42:21Speaker 3: have to be aggressive at this point in time with
- 42:23Speaker 3: the guy like like Marte. You know, I think another
- 42:27Speaker 3: guy that just announced was likely is missing the rest
- 42:30Speaker 3: of the season was Nick Lidolo as well. Like guys
- 42:34Speaker 3: like that, you got to move on now, and so
- 42:38Speaker 3: somebody else is gonna pick him up and they're gonna
- 42:40Speaker 3: like be celebrating the last week of the seasons. They
- 42:42Speaker 3: got like one home run, right, It's okay, you didn't
- 42:45Speaker 3: miss anything. You're better off not having any regrets. And
- 42:51Speaker 3: if it comes back and he does, great, you should
- 42:54Speaker 3: be confident in the movie you made. So I'm cutting,
- 42:57Speaker 3: I'm running, and I'm making a move. Not for anybody,
- 43:00Speaker 3: Don't get me wrong. I'm not picking up the bottom.
- 43:03Speaker 3: I'm not pick up Jue or Shella to you know,
- 43:06Speaker 3: lugging my line up here. But yeah, I'm moving on.
- 43:10Speaker 3: So am I crazy? Is that the move you'd make?
- 43:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's gonna be very nuanced to what
- 43:15Speaker 1: your league and roster is. But certainly, I think once
- 43:19Speaker 1: you get into that situation where you've got to make
- 43:21Speaker 1: one decisiating the other, you've got to do it and
- 43:24Speaker 1: run with the conviction. In terms of like especially if
- 43:27Speaker 1: you're looking to cut bait. I mean we just mentioned
- 43:29Speaker 1: like Rhet Lauder coming up. I'm guessing Dylan Cruz was
- 43:33Speaker 1: probably owned in your leagues, unless you know there's some
- 43:35Speaker 1: sort of minor league to major league transition that you
- 43:38Speaker 1: can bid on him. But like, this is the time
- 43:41Speaker 1: when those types of players are coming up and you
- 43:43Speaker 1: get the chance to be able to pick them up,
- 43:45Speaker 1: you've got to do it. If you've got to cut
- 43:47Speaker 1: somebody like a Marte or Riley where it just hurts
- 43:50Speaker 1: a lot, but like you've got to think on the
- 43:52Speaker 1: back end, Hey, like if somebody else does get Marte,
- 43:55Speaker 1: it's maybe a week. And like even with that, it's
- 43:59Speaker 1: like a rusty Martine coming off of ankle sprain. That
- 44:02Speaker 1: Like there's a lot of those factors that you've got
- 44:04Speaker 1: to put in there to be able to say, like, hey,
- 44:07Speaker 1: it's going to be all right. On the other end,
- 44:08Speaker 1: I'm not giving anybody in my league a huge advantage
- 44:11Speaker 1: by cutting this guy. So yeah, I think I think
- 44:14Speaker 1: you nailed it in terms of like the decision fork
- 44:16Speaker 1: that we've got here on Marte and anybody else that
- 44:19Speaker 1: might be coming up.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Okay, well, we've got two pictures here together that.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Honestly they're gonna I'm bucketing them together because I think
- 44:28Speaker 1: it's kind of a conversation that I wanted to have anyway,
- 44:32Speaker 1: and that is Hunter Green hit the al with an
- 44:35Speaker 1: elbow issue right now. So it is some sort of
- 44:38Speaker 1: UCL damage and it doesn't sound terribly great. I'm not
- 44:42Speaker 1: terribly surprised considering how hard Hunter Green throws, but he
- 44:46Speaker 1: is going for more of like a rest and rehab
- 44:49Speaker 1: route and trying to nurse that elbow back to health.
- 44:52Speaker 1: The other one is Tyler glassnaw has been dealing with
- 44:55Speaker 1: elbow tendon nineis and has been placed on the injured list.
- 44:59Speaker 1: This is something that we talked about a little bit
- 45:01Speaker 1: in terms of like Glass now coming up on just
- 45:04Speaker 1: an overall career high in innings that like, I'm not
- 45:08Speaker 1: terribly surprised that his body hasn't been able to handle it.
- 45:11Speaker 1: But the conversation I want to have here is like,
- 45:13Speaker 1: what are you taking away from some of these injuries
- 45:16Speaker 1: that have happened in twenty twenty four, especially to the
- 45:19Speaker 1: pitching side. It does seem like that top end of
- 45:21Speaker 1: the pitching pool got drained real fast after Strider went
- 45:25Speaker 1: down and just kept getting drained as we've seen, you know,
- 45:29Speaker 1: all sorts of like grafts of people who have thrown
- 45:31Speaker 1: the hardest and all of them have hit the eel. Now,
- 45:34Speaker 1: I think at this point because of Hunter Green getting there,
- 45:37Speaker 1: So is it changing how you're going to be approaching
- 45:42Speaker 1: pitching overall going into twenty twenty five and what types
- 45:45Speaker 1: of pictures you're going to be targeting.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't only changes too much, but that's just
- 45:50Speaker 3: more because of my conservative nature in the way I've
- 45:52Speaker 3: drafted pitching the past, but I've been burned this year
- 45:56Speaker 3: as well. Like I think it's going to start to
- 45:58Speaker 3: really pressure on some of the strategy of get an ace,
- 46:02Speaker 3: the one that you feel has more mileage left in
- 46:05Speaker 3: the arm, that you don't touch a single guy that
- 46:07Speaker 3: has upside if he stays healthy, like you, you don't
- 46:12Speaker 3: touch any of those guys at all. And then you
- 46:16Speaker 3: are looking to really layer into the guys that have
- 46:21Speaker 3: stayed stuck around for a long time and really shown
- 46:24Speaker 3: that their workhorses, and they're probably number threes. And so
- 46:28Speaker 3: you're talking your Aaron Nola's, You're talking your Sonny Gray's.
- 46:33Speaker 3: You know, I could not say it. You're talking that
- 46:37Speaker 3: kind of profile Pablo Lopez, you know. And so those
- 46:42Speaker 3: are the kind of guys that I think you are
- 46:43Speaker 3: looking to load up on that number three and you're
- 46:46Speaker 3: trying to get like four number threes because you're gonna
- 46:50Speaker 3: somebody's gonna go down, and you can't be so heavily
- 46:55Speaker 3: invested at the top of your rotation that when if
- 46:57Speaker 3: that is the guy that goes down, that your whole
- 46:59Speaker 3: whole team. So, like I said, I'm I'm willing to
- 47:02Speaker 3: kind of invest at the very top end if I
- 47:04Speaker 3: feel comfortable with him, but if there's any red flags,
- 47:08Speaker 3: I'm I'm not going there. So a guy like Green, yeah,
- 47:12Speaker 3: he's he's actually been relatively healthy, but he's not been
- 47:16Speaker 3: one hundred percent healthy. He's not always been and he
- 47:19Speaker 3: throws incredibly hard. So it's you know, if there's an
- 47:22Speaker 3: inklean that he's had some slight issues, it just feels
- 47:25Speaker 3: like it's going to be more so it is a challenge,
- 47:30Speaker 3: and I'm almost rather playing in the back end here
- 47:33Speaker 3: hoping for a few rebounds and getting lucky with with those.
- 47:37Speaker 3: So how about you, is is this are you approaching?
- 47:40Speaker 3: Is pitching any different next year?
- 47:42Speaker 1: I don't think I'm doing it terribly different because I
- 47:45Speaker 1: think I almost incorporated some of these things. I mean
- 47:48Speaker 1: this year, just because like it's just my general m
- 47:51Speaker 1: with pitching in terms of like I'm not usually taking
- 47:54Speaker 1: one of the top pitchers until like I'm not usually
- 47:58Speaker 1: popping a starter until the fourth or fifth round, And honestly,
- 48:02Speaker 1: half the time I'm usually getting a closer before I
- 48:04Speaker 1: get my first starting pitcher that I'm shopping in that
- 48:08Speaker 1: really upper tier of closer to try to get that
- 48:11Speaker 1: set it and forget it, you know, twelve K nine closer,
- 48:15Speaker 1: and then from there can find like a decent, you know,
- 48:19Speaker 1: number one starter who especially going into this year, like
- 48:22Speaker 1: my guy for this was George Kirby, just somebody who
- 48:25Speaker 1: is solid. I know he's gonna go out there and
- 48:27Speaker 1: give me innings. He might not have the most electric stuff,
- 48:30Speaker 1: but I know that he's playing for a solid team,
- 48:33Speaker 1: solid home ballpark.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I can.
- 48:36Speaker 1: I'm not terribly worried about his injury risk outside of
- 48:39Speaker 1: just kind of like the general pitching, you know, injury risk.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Logan Webb's another.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Guy that I really like for this type of strategy.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Like you said, Sonny Gray's in there too, but like
- 48:49Speaker 1: trying to shade away from the glass nows than the
- 48:53Speaker 1: scoobles and the even like Dylan Ceeese, going into next year,
- 48:58Speaker 1: I think I'll probably won't be in on just because
- 49:00Speaker 1: like the risk starts becoming more than I think it's worth,
- 49:05Speaker 1: especially like even when you have the route of like
- 49:08Speaker 1: being able to go through, and then I think when
- 49:12Speaker 1: you use that strategy allows you to then in like
- 49:15Speaker 1: the early teens rounds, really start hammering those starting pitchers,
- 49:20Speaker 1: and like that's where you can like find people like
- 49:24Speaker 1: you know later in drafts like this year would have
- 49:26Speaker 1: been like a Ranger Suarez or you know, just players
- 49:29Speaker 1: where like there is more upside, especially if there's volume
- 49:33Speaker 1: there and you're not just chasing pure stuff in gas,
- 49:37Speaker 1: because I think that is what's leading to a lot
- 49:39Speaker 1: of these injuries on the top end, is like it's
- 49:43Speaker 1: not people that are great pictures, it's people who throw
- 49:46Speaker 1: really hard, and like you've got to kind of parse
- 49:48Speaker 1: that out and find the great pictures.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll say in especially leagues that are in any
- 49:55Speaker 3: max or like weekly lineups, I definitely last year started
- 49:59Speaker 3: really focus guys that pitched deep into games or were
- 50:03Speaker 3: efficient pitchers. And so you're talking to your lower whip guys,
- 50:08Speaker 3: is if you were looking for an easy way to
- 50:10Speaker 3: go after it, and I think you'd be surprised to
- 50:13Speaker 3: how that like you don't feel over the season because
- 50:16Speaker 3: they're not the guy that goes It's like Blake Snell,
- 50:19Speaker 3: not think this kind of guy. He's the guy that's
- 50:20Speaker 3: gonna go throw a no hitter and then next next
- 50:24Speaker 3: game he makes it through four because he's been all
- 50:26Speaker 3: over the place and he's trying to strike everybody out right,
- 50:29Speaker 3: and over the course of the season you get a
- 50:32Speaker 3: guy like Logan Webb, George Kirby. I look, those are
- 50:35Speaker 3: great examples that are just steady Eddie, and all of
- 50:39Speaker 3: a sudden you just realize is they're accumulators and they've
- 50:42Speaker 3: really ended up in a simpler spot. But you didn't
- 50:45Speaker 3: have the ebbs and the flows and the risk, and
- 50:47Speaker 3: you're not dealing with somebody being like Blake Snell. I
- 50:50Speaker 3: own him and I cut him and then he came
- 50:53Speaker 3: back and was amazing. I'm not better, but it like
- 50:57Speaker 3: that's what you deal with with these some of these
- 51:00Speaker 3: injury guys, high octane guys, the control issues, like it's
- 51:04Speaker 3: it's not worth it anymore.
- 51:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree.
- 51:08Speaker 1: And I think also, like what's worked for me with
- 51:10Speaker 1: this strategy is that it doesn't put you behind in
- 51:13Speaker 1: K's too badly, you know not. Also like this worked
- 51:16Speaker 1: because Spencer Strider didn't like.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Pitch the entire year.
- 51:19Speaker 1: That helped in general, which might have helped you, is
- 51:23Speaker 1: that like, you know, some of these big K nine
- 51:25Speaker 1: guys went down and so like. But if you are
- 51:28Speaker 1: taking that closer early, you're getting one of the higher
- 51:33Speaker 1: strikeout closers, and that can help close the gap a
- 51:35Speaker 1: little bit. That like, you're not probably gonna run the
- 51:38Speaker 1: same K nine as everybody else in your league, but
- 51:41Speaker 1: if you can stay the course and kind of keep pace,
- 51:45Speaker 1: you know, maybe finished aimed at finished fourth or fifth
- 51:48Speaker 1: in strikeouts, and do well across the board and everything else,
- 51:52Speaker 1: then like the volume can get you there as opposed
- 51:55Speaker 1: to like focusing on the K nine guys.
- 51:57Speaker 3: So you're you're absolutely right, only down a huge targets
- 52:01Speaker 3: at Edwin Diaz, which I know somebody on this podcast did.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's starting to come around a little bit
- 52:07Speaker 1: with the strikeouts, but yeah, the saves part didn't go
- 52:10Speaker 1: very well. All right, Speaking of saves, we have one
- 52:16Speaker 1: pretty fluid situation that I wanted to get your opinion
- 52:18Speaker 1: on with Pete Fairbanks from the Tampa Bay Rays hitting
- 52:22Speaker 1: the Ayah with a lat strain. That's opening up that job,
- 52:26Speaker 1: and I mean it's kind of classic Ray's bullpen down there.
- 52:29Speaker 1: But you've got some names that are kind of matriculating
- 52:32Speaker 1: towards the job, between Edward Useta and Garrett Clevenger's hanging
- 52:37Speaker 1: out there. Still many Rodriguez got the last save last night,
- 52:42Speaker 1: So there's a lot of great arms in there, and
- 52:45Speaker 1: I'm wondering who you might want to be targeting in
- 52:48Speaker 1: this bullpen because like I think, compared to other situations
- 52:51Speaker 1: around the league, that the Rays are still like a
- 52:53Speaker 1: five hundred dish club and if you need saves, this
- 52:57Speaker 1: might be one of the best spots to find it
- 52:58Speaker 1: down the stretch.
- 53:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree, And you know, I think Fairbanks is
- 53:02Speaker 3: still the guy when healthy. There's there's no shouldn't be
- 53:05Speaker 3: any question about that. But you know, for me, I'm
- 53:07Speaker 3: looking at Edwin Yusita. He's probably the guy for me.
- 53:11Speaker 3: And he's not the guy that has this like amazing profile,
- 53:14Speaker 3: which I guess is like the majority of the guys
- 53:16Speaker 3: that the Rays having their bullpen cast offs and then
- 53:19Speaker 3: turn into two All stars, Right, But he has been
- 53:22Speaker 3: in an absolute tear this year and he's been so good.
- 53:26Speaker 3: This is a guy that's almost twelve k per nine,
- 53:28Speaker 3: barely over a single walk per nine, and you know,
- 53:32Speaker 3: he's got an X stip about two and a half.
- 53:34Speaker 3: It's he's just been lights out.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:37Speaker 3: Has there been luck iner, Sure, But like at this point,
- 53:40Speaker 3: you're you're playing the hot hand and he looks dominant,
- 53:44Speaker 3: so why wouldn't they give him the shot? Now? It's
- 53:46Speaker 3: also the Rays don't count on him getting all the shots.
- 53:49Speaker 3: But if I'm if I'm planting my my steak here,
- 53:53Speaker 3: it's it's Yusita is the guy I'm after. But it's
- 53:58Speaker 3: it's it's it's very I'm not saying that this is
- 54:01Speaker 3: going to be something to somebody that you want to
- 54:03Speaker 3: plant your flag in for many many years. He's hot
- 54:06Speaker 3: right now, he looks really great right now, he's he's
- 54:08Speaker 3: my bet for the next month.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm on board with you, and especially like even
- 54:14Speaker 1: if it's not let's say he does lose out in
- 54:18Speaker 1: many Rodriguez gets more of these saves down the stretch.
- 54:22Speaker 1: You sayed his rates from an ERA whip perspective and
- 54:26Speaker 1: strikeout and honestly hasn't been super duper lucky. He's got
- 54:30Speaker 1: a point eight for ERA against a one point four
- 54:33Speaker 1: four FIPS, So he's just not allowing much contact and
- 54:38Speaker 1: so or hard contact that is. And so that is
- 54:42Speaker 1: I think where you say can really add some value
- 54:45Speaker 1: as well, is that you know you don't have to
- 54:47Speaker 1: worry about him blowing up the way that you do
- 54:50Speaker 1: with Rodriguez in terms of especially Rodriguez has just struggled
- 54:55Speaker 1: with walks most of his career that I think you
- 54:57Speaker 1: say to is the safer bet.
- 54:59Speaker 3: Here Yep, absolutely, Okay.
- 55:02Speaker 1: We've got a couple more injuries that I want to discuss,
- 55:05Speaker 1: mostly because these guys have really kind of broken out
- 55:09Speaker 1: this year after toiling in obscurity of like just kind
- 55:13Speaker 1: of like being on prospectless forever.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Also both in.
- 55:20Speaker 1: No, they weren't both rookies in the same top sets,
- 55:23Speaker 1: but certainly have plenty of their rookie cards tucked away.
- 55:27Speaker 1: The first one is Xavier Edwards is being placed on
- 55:31Speaker 1: the IL down in Miami. And I also wanted to
- 55:34Speaker 1: bring this one up because our boy Gryffin Conine, who
- 55:36Speaker 1: discussed a few times, got the call up here and
- 55:39Speaker 1: makes that list of former players as sons that were
- 55:44Speaker 1: on the Blue Jays that are making a debut. So
- 55:47Speaker 1: that's kind of cool that Griffin Conine's coming up and
- 55:49Speaker 1: playing for his father's Marlins team down there. But I
- 55:54Speaker 1: wanted to get your check in on here on like,
- 55:57Speaker 1: where do you think Xavier Edwards just goes in drafts
- 56:01Speaker 1: next year? Is he like someone you're gonna be avoiding
- 56:05Speaker 1: in the vein of like what you were doing with
- 56:07Speaker 1: Nico Corner this year, because it's a little bit of
- 56:09Speaker 1: like a landmine at that second base where he adds
- 56:13Speaker 1: the steals and gives you speed and you're like, oh, man,
- 56:16Speaker 1: that looks really tempting or is this actually like I'm
- 56:19Speaker 1: trying to even think of somebody who would be a
- 56:22Speaker 1: good comp Like, all I can actually think of is
- 56:24Speaker 1: like late nineties Eric Young that like just like solid average,
- 56:30Speaker 1: solid stolen bases and could be just a sneaky value
- 56:34Speaker 1: in drafts. So how are you viewing Xavier Edwards going
- 56:37Speaker 1: into drafts next year based on what you've seen from
- 56:40Speaker 1: him this year?
- 56:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean poor Man's Scott Pasednik is kind of
- 56:45Speaker 3: the where I've looked at him. You know, I I'm
- 56:49Speaker 3: I'm probably gonna be passing on on Edwards for the
- 56:52Speaker 3: most part unless he's really dropping in drafts, which I
- 56:54Speaker 3: don't expect him to do. Like he you know, he's
- 56:58Speaker 3: run with a one four w RC plus this year
- 57:01Speaker 3: and to the point, he's stolen twenty two bases, got
- 57:06Speaker 3: caught twice, and that average SING at three forty nine
- 57:11Speaker 3: is just like two attractive. It's too too out there,
- 57:15Speaker 3: but like I do feel maybe a little Nico Horner,
- 57:18Speaker 3: I feel a little bit more Estuary Ruiz here with
- 57:22Speaker 3: UH with Xavier Edwards is like, you have such a
- 57:25Speaker 3: one dimensional profile and he's had a let's let's be honest,
- 57:29Speaker 3: he's had a little luck this year. He's got a
- 57:31Speaker 3: four to thirteen baby, and I do worry that with
- 57:36Speaker 3: that one dimensional profile, even though from a pure like
- 57:38Speaker 3: hitter approach, he's better than Ruiz, He's he's a much
- 57:41Speaker 3: more complete hitter. Not that doesn't say a whole lot
- 57:45Speaker 3: compared to what Rui Ruiz was, But I think you're
- 57:49Speaker 3: you're locking to the one trick pony. I think he's
- 57:51Speaker 3: more of a two eighty hitter at his peak, and
- 57:55Speaker 3: I don't think he's a three fifty hitter. And if
- 57:58Speaker 3: he's not getting on base as much, he's not, you know,
- 58:01Speaker 3: able to run as much. It's it's gonna be a
- 58:03Speaker 3: house of cards. And I also am not certain that
- 58:08Speaker 3: he's like the player that they're building around in Miami.
- 58:11Speaker 3: I think he's a player they like, but I think
- 58:14Speaker 3: they see him as a nice to have, not must have.
- 58:18Speaker 3: So I'm avoiding that. Edwards here and it's more comes
- 58:22Speaker 3: down to I need a little bit more boom from
- 58:25Speaker 3: the rest of my categories to to make it worth it.
- 58:29Speaker 3: Louis ariahs, you can stee still stick with the batting
- 58:32Speaker 3: average and nothing else. At least Xavier Edwards stole some basis.
- 58:37Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I think that's exactly right, and it's it's
- 58:41Speaker 1: a little crazy that you you're dogging him for the
- 58:43Speaker 1: two eighty average, because I that's gonna be I think
- 58:45Speaker 1: a huge aspect is that, like I think we actually
- 58:49Speaker 1: disagree here a little bit that.
- 58:50Speaker 2: I am in on Edwards.
- 58:53Speaker 1: A little bit of it is gonna be price dependent,
- 58:55Speaker 1: like if it is the Nico Horner price from this
- 58:57Speaker 1: past year where it was going in like that six yeah,
- 59:00Speaker 1: sixtith round, no way, like I'm not paying for it there.
- 59:03Speaker 1: But I do think that like Xavier Edwards is looking at.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Something like eighty runs.
- 59:10Speaker 1: Like forty to fifty RBI five ish homers, forty steals,
- 59:15Speaker 1: two eighty average playing every day too with that t
- 59:19Speaker 1: eighty average like at the top of the Miami lineup.
- 59:21Speaker 1: That I don't think he's like a set it and
- 59:25Speaker 1: forget it franchise piece for them. But I think he's
- 59:28Speaker 1: their starting shortstop or second basement next year and for
- 59:30Speaker 1: the next few years.
- 59:31Speaker 2: So it's a it's a weird.
- 59:33Speaker 1: Kind of needle the thread in terms of Also, this
- 59:36Speaker 1: is a guy that I would be trying to acquire
- 59:39Speaker 1: in dynasty leagues because of that, because like that is
- 59:41Speaker 1: a pretty solid floor, and if it's a decent price,
- 59:45Speaker 1: certainly sign me up, because like then you can kind
- 59:47Speaker 1: of especially if you've got somebody maybe like a Schwarber
- 59:51Speaker 1: or even the judge on your team that you're trying
- 59:53Speaker 1: to build around and pick up some stolen bases while
- 59:56Speaker 1: not sacrificing too much of that batting average. Xavier Edwards
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: works really well I think in those situations. And yeah,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I mean he doesn't hit the ball very hard, but
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: the speed is just so crazy and the infield hit ability.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Plus like this guy walks so like if you can
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: continue to walk at like a ten percent clip, that
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: really does raise the floor a lot compared to what
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: we see out of these typical all speed guys, because
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: a lot of them don't walk like this and don't
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: get on base.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: So I think you make a good call out there,
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: like if you're matching him with the opposite like the
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: peed Alonzo's the Kyle Schwarber's and you're trying to build
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: a complete player like he is a target. The question
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: I end up having is if you miss him, like
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: if you go with that strategy, like you have to
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: overbuy him, and that starts to bring in the Nico
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Horner conversation, and I think that's what's gonna happen with him.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: I think people are going to extrapolate be like, man,
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: they had forty seven games this year twenty two, he's
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: gonna be a sixty seal guy, all these things, and
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: I think the expectations and then the excitement of what
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: he can do to make a complete like two players,
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: is just going to be more than what the value
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: ultimately is.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and forty stolen bases and a two eity average.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: When you punch that into an auction calculator and like
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: value calculator, it's going.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: To kick out a pretty high price. I think.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: So like it's I guess, like I said, we will
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: see where that draft price settles. But I mean the
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: factor here too, is he plays in Miami, so like
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: there's a lot of people who might not know who
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: he is getting into.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Very true.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: So certainly somebody to keep an eye on the other
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: guy I wanted to discuss, and partly because I think
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: his season's probably over with this injury. That is Joey
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Bart from the Pittsburgh Pirates catcher being placed on the
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: shelf with a hamstring injury, and so that I think,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: like I said, it should wrap up his first season
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: outside of San Francisco, and.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: It's been a very solid season.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: In sixty three games, he slashed two seventy two, three
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: forty seven four ninety seven. That's good for a one
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: thirty three WRC plus pop twelve homers. And really, I
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: mean this is what we wanted of Joey Bart in
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: San Francisco, as maybe the change of scene in Pittsburgh has.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: Allowed him to develop.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: And I think also it hasn't hurt that he's had
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Yes Moni Grandal around there to just help him through
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: the maturation process. But with that line, I mean, Joey
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Bart is certainly on my draft board, like watchless going
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: into twenty twenty five, because if you can get something similar,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: I don't see anybody coming for his job at Pittsburgh.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Why wouldn't they give him full run at this He's
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: only twenty seven years old, former top pick, you know,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: number two overall pick in twenty eighteen. That like there's
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: talent there. I'm am I getting over my skis here
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: with Joey Bart.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Like is he somebody?
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: I mean, I think in two catcher leagues he's becoming
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: he'll be come really valuable. But like, does he entered
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: the discussion for maybe being drafted in just one catcher
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: league that you know, fifteen teamers next year?
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: Yeah, he's I think he's gonna be that guy, uh
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: next year. That fits very well, Like you don't get
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: the guy the ear raft from the top, you know,
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: five or six catchers and you kind of earmark him
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: at and say, I'm going to take you at the
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: end of the draft, and you know, I'll be happy
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: with whatever production I get. And he's that kind of
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: target of that guy that you're you're looking for. And
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: so that's I feel like in the past few years,
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: we've had like Logan Hoppy's been in that, Tyler Stevenson
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: has been in that, Like guys that didn't have full
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: playing time, just sort of the little spurts that were
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: just kind of coming to their own. Nobody wanted to
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: fully invest, but you just wait at the end of
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: the draft and you end up with the top like
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: eight catcher and you were pretty much aroun't happy with it.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: So I think that's what Bart is. And at the
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: end of the day, like he'd never really got a
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: chance in San Francisco, Like, how do you think about it?
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: He like he he basically had like four parts seasons,
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: Like it's just he he didn't get a chance, and
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: it was it was really weird that that they just
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: never seemed to want to give their top you know,
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: top draft pick a go at it. So I'm I'm
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: intrigued by him. I don't see anything in the profile
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: that's like tells me it's not real. So yeah, I'd
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: give him a flyer for sure. He's gonna be kind
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: of on that watch list for me.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I totally agree.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: So that's somebody I'll be watching coming in next year
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: because that season from Joy Bart might snuck.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Up on me by name when it was all said
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: and done.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's get into some cards discussion, because we've
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: got some pretty good topics here. First, let's update the
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: schedule a little bit because when we last talked two
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: weeks ago and even like a little bit before that,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: we were going through all the sets that were coming out,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: and we're just like dumbfounded by how fanatics Paniti Tops
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: were going to put them all out. Guess what, not
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: even close to them all out, as pretty much everything
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: we've discussed over the last month or so has been
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: pushed back. Topspiness came out on schedule, but that was
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: just about the only one that's come out on schedule recently,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: as the twenty eighth today as we're talking that Panini
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Boys of Summer set came out, and so I also
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: it came out at like three hundred dollars a box,
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: which is not the price point I was hoping for.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: So it is a beautiful set, but certainly a little
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: more pricier than I would want to pay for an
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: unlicensed product. But we've had all sorts of other delays.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Eight thirty Tops Pristine is coming out now. It was
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: supposed to be out today, so a couple extra days. Also,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: last week, Tops Pro Debut twenty twenty four was supposed
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: to be out. That's been delayed to ninety six. Bowmen
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: Chrome is still on the schedule for September eleventh, and
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: Panini Prism was supposed to be coming out this week originally,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: and then they had pushed it back and now it's
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: on the schedule for October second. So we'll see where
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: all that comes, where that all that settles, because you
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: can tell that everything at the Panini and Tops production
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: presses are going into high gear for basketball and football
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: right now.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Is I got to get to get a lot.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Of those cards out, and I'm sure I'm certain that
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: the Bowman Chrome Productions kind of also slowed all of
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: this down, but it's kind of like a pretty standard
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: operating procedure now for Tops Panini fanatics now over the
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: past couple of years. Where the back end of the
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: summer schedule, it's a long tail, my friend, as we've
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: seen with So it'll be interesting to see where this
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: all goes. And any of these sets that you have
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: some interest in, yeah, I.
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: Mean with we've talked about a little bit like the
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: the pro TIB you just from a price point perspective,
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: is always just a fun thing, especially you get to
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: see the prospects. You know, it's one of those few
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: prospecting sets that's not entirely sought after, but yet you
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: can I can't remember the number of auttos that included
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: in the box three three. I was gonna say four,
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: but like I knew it, it was it's a it's
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: a handful and so it is a little more fun
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: rip and a little more reasonable price points. So Protage
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: they've used probably the one that I'm most interested in
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: at this point with with the list. The complete sets
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: are like one of those guilty pleasures that I feel
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: like I always want to get them because of the
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: you know, the rare inserts and things like that, and
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: then you end up with them, You're like, what am
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: I doing with an entire set of an overproduced product?
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: So that's that's always entertaining as well. But yeah, it's uh,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: they got the printing presses running, got a little bit
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: of a delay, but at the end of the day,
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: it's right on schedule for what we expected.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and actually it was.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: It's three autographs and a pro debut jumbo, but four
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: in a hobby like the hobby boxes.
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: That's okay, That's yeah, That's what it is is that
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: they their jumbos have less autos but more hits, yes
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: than the hobby and so it's kind of a interesting
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: the dynamic with those cards.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and like exclusive chrome parallels and stuff in those jumbos,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: like all sorts of just like stuff that you can
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: only pull out the jumbos. So yeah, it is like
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: a weirdly inverted product for that. But yeah, I think
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: that'll be a cool set, especially given just like some
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: of the just hot prospects that we've got coming through
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: between last year's draft and just the international signings and everything.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: It should be a pretty popular set, I think.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: And now we're going to get into I've been looking
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: forward to talk to you about this all week. I
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: don't even know exactly how to explain this because it's
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: like so inside the baseball card collecting community and also
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: like so inside Reddit, but especially if you're familiar with
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: the collecting game, I mean, memes and kind of like
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: joke cards have always, I think been a part of
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: this hobby and just where is gone in terms of
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: like what people collect and what people will jump onto
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: and latch to and collect and like you know, move
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: around and sell for ridiculous prices. The one other kind
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: of card that I think really is in this vein
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: is the nineteen ninety Fleer Jose youu Rebay for the
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: San Francisco giants, where there's always been like this great
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: kind of urban legend that those Jose youu Rebay cards
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: from the ninety Fleer set were used to like launder
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: money from drug dealers and stuff like that, and so
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: like they actually whenever I find one in a dollar box,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: I always laugh and like have a good time with
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: like whoever is running that box, because whoever's at that
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: table is in on that joke because they know that
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Jose you Rebay kind of backstory, and you'll see them
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: listed on eBay for ridiculous prices because of that. But
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: I think that's the route that we're going down with
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: this new meme, and that is Wade Meckler has become
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: like a hot collection item. He's even like been interacting
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: on Instagram with people reddit as I've been seeing it
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: posted there. And if you just get into the baseball
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Card's Reddit site, you can't go more than like two
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: posts without it being a Wade Meckler related joke. And
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: with this all actually relates to is weight Mechular autos
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: were in just about everybody stops Chrome twenty twenty four
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: hobby boxes that like we talked about this a lot
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: with the twenty four Chrome release that it does seem
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: like I don't know what they do, but they take
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: a lot of like the same bass autos of like
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: some of these really fringe rookies and just he signs
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: like thousands of them and they just end up everywhere
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: and everybody has them. But that's where it came from,
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: is that everybody was just like really irate, I think,
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: with being skunked by getting a Wade Mechler auto or
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: a Weaid Meckler.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Hit, and now he's.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: Turning into a collected collectible piece. Because like even people
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: when they're ripping Tops Chrome product now on Reddit and
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: posting like the results the hits always like the auto
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: some of the refractors guys who are lining up for
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: the MFF buyback. So that's like Otani judge wit and
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: that's just about it right now, is what people are
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: posting from those and then the Wade Meckler like rookie
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: card that you're obviously going to be getting in that
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Tops Chrome box. So certainly I'll link to a few
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: of the my favorite memes that have come out from
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: this and just like favorite jokes.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: But if you just scroll through the.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: Reddit site at any given time, I'm guaranteeing you're going
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: to find some pretty good Waid Meckler jokes. This is
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: exactly what I wanted from people in terms of the
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: community of like there's always That's why I think I
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: like about card collecting and the overall hobby community overall,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: is that there is a push and pull. As much
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: as like we complain about what Panini, tops and fanatics
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: are doing.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: To this hobby overall, they can't control it.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: So once it gets out there, like they have to
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: live with how we're collecting these cards. And this is
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: just like a great, I think rebellious way to like
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: almost shove it back in Fanatics's face, like how terrible
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: tops chrome has been this year?
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: Yeah, and is this is this not the game stop
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: of the card hobby. I was looking. I was looking
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: at the Wade Meckler top term auto prices, and he's
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: he's hit the point where it's like fifteen to twenty
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: dollars or his his his base auto when no more
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: than like a week ago, two weeks ago, they were
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: like four dollars cards like, if not less, and so
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: like it is just ironic, hilarious that the way that
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: this is has gone, and you're right, probably less as
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: I go back about a full week like his you know,
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: teal out of one ninety nine auto five dollars, like
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: it's the two fifty five dollars, like they were basically free,
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: and now the base is like four times the number
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: auto just because of Reddit. And so it's the game
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: stop of card collecting. It's fun, it's hilarious. You're right,
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: it's going up against the big companies just because why not.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and so I love it.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: So if you do have Wade Meckler's out there, honestly,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: all of them are moving right now. So it's not
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: really just like his base in just regular flagship, those
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: are starting to move.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: He's been in top schron Black this year.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Those are moving. He's in finance, those are moving. So
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: if you were ripping any product during this twenty twenty
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: four year and we're disappointed because you got a Wade
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Meckler hit, I would go dig that out and list
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: it as soon as you can, because I mean, honestly,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: this wave will probably last a little bit because it's
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: just like such a landmark thing that I'm going to
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: remember about the twenty twenty four season.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: But certainly.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: I think the peak is probably just about to be
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: hit this weekend. On all those Wade Mecklers that got
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: posted over the past few days.
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: Let's have some fun because you know, I can't do
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: it with a card conversation without a recent comp Wade
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: Meckler on bids his five of five chrome mojo red Mojo,
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: not auto, just red, the red five of five mojo
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: refractor for Wade Meckler. How much did that go for?
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: So that sold?
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: We did to sell? Yeah, that's key.
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: That sold yesterday.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: So last night, Yeah, so last night, I mean somebody
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: probably pushed it to like two fifty.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: It's but it's still no. But I think I saw
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: a his super actually that was his red auto out
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: of five was almost like two hundred, and then like
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: player breaks for going for like one ninety.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: So the last piece there is certainly the most absurd.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: That if anybody's paying for Waye Meckler breaks, that's great.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: You know there's some guy out there, like the market's hot,
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: I gotta grab them. Like by the time you get
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: that shipped to you've lost all the value. This is
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: like a week long.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: If it's that most, that's fantastic. That that y en
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: that that really tears me up. That's great.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Okay, well, we are going to wrap up this opening section.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: We're going to take a small break and get back
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: to it with our mock head to head draft for
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: twenty twenty five.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: So stick around, okay, welcome back everybody.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Like I said, we are going to do twelve picks
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: of our MAUC twenty twenty five first round back and forth.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: And uh we did this last year round this I'm
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: episode seven if you want to go back into the
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: archives to see how we handle this for twenty twenty four.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: And actually on that episode, we not only picked the
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: first round, but we also made.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: A PC out of it as we were able to.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: I mean, we're also crazier back in those early days
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: that we like stretched it over two nights of recording
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: a little how the sausage is made so that we
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: could do the research. But this week we didn't quite
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: have the time to put together the cards piece. So
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: we'll revisit this, I think when we come back to
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: draft season in the spring to be able to give
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: some PC suggestions for those first rounders and the twenty
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: twenty five first round fantasy drafts. But part of This
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: is also driven by inspired by the two early Meatball
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Draft that ran this week with a bunch of other
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: fantasy experts and is headed up by Rob d Pietro.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: So they went through and it's a fifteen teamer. But
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: that's also a like a draft and hold situation, so
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: it's a little bit of a different overall consideration for
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: value compared to what we're doing, Like we're going to
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: focus in on just five y five rod single year, We're.
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: Going to let it rip for the first round.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: So like I said, we're gonna do twelve picks in total,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: so we'll each get six. And the way that we
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: did this last year was just a coin flip, so
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: I think we're gonna do this again.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: Sorry buddy guy to grab this coin.
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: Well, well you get the coin. I mean, this is
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: one of my favorite episodes of the year. I'm just
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: gonna own that now because this shows how crazy off
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: we may be at the beginning of the season. And
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: so we have to come back and revisit this, and
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: we will sometime early in the spring before draft season.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: See you know how the ADP is lining up within
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: the off season moves anything like that. So let's see
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: who gets first pick. I think if I recall, I
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: think I had first pick last year in this I
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: did give it.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, yeah, because it was actually a little bit
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: of like an upset last year I took Ronald Lacuna
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: first when you would have taken Otani.
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: Yes, it was because I thought I was right and
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: I was clearly wrong.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: We also when we recorded this last year, Otani like
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: tours UCL like.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: The week later.
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: Yes, as as is the mo O for this podcast.
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: So yeah, Rip, whoever from this list is about to
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: get injured over the next week or two could scratch
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: him right out of the first round. But okay, I'm
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: gonna let you pick.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Though. Uh let's see, look at this, Quinn and it's
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: in the air. Heads, it's heads, it is not it's tails.
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: I get the first pick again this year.
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: Let's not repeat this.
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: Well, I'll just admit that, like, I don't even know
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: if this is a at all for me last year.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I know for me, I mean yea, I felt it
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: last year. So maybe there is a debate because you're
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: on the other side again. But number one is gonna
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: be Shoho Tani. Between the forty forty season this year
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: likely gonna be trending towards that fifty to fifty season,
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: you're getting pitcher of Tani back next year. So like,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: not only are you already like starting with that forty
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: to forty base if the pitching doesn't work, Like I'm
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: not totally hopeful in thinking that like he's going to
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: return to any sort of like peak elite pitching level
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: next year, because like I do think, especially in leagues
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: where he is the one player, and especially Wickuli leagues
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: where you only get all the hitting or all the
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: pitching stats, unless you're in a really weird situation where
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: you need one win out of him or a few
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: strikeouts out of him, you're gonna be playing him as
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: a as a utail bat all the time on the
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: on the batting side, and then like that pitching will
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: just kind of be gravy to have it whenever you
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: need it.
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: So like I will.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Admit that I think that Bobby Wood Junior probably has
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: more overall like fancy value on the batting but just
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: like that flexibility with Otani knowing the where the floor
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: is and then also just knowing that, like, hey, I
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: get a picture out of this. Certainly if you get
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: a situation you're in a league where like you can
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: get all the pitching Otani and all the hitting Otani.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: It's not even close, Like this wouldn't even be a debate.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: But with the kind of weekly league slant, that's why
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: I'm going with Otani here over Wit.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: Yeah, there is no debate on this one. You're absolutely
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: right is Otani Hopefully we didn't just jink sim But
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: you know, to your point is we talked about pitching
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: strategy earlier. Like to me, this is the pitching strategy.
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: If you have that number one pick and you can
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: get Otani and then get pitching Otani, you just set
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: yourself up for not needing to take a picture and
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: like the sixth or seventh round, like you don't need
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: to have because you just baked in a number two
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: that with number one upside. But like you know, the
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: question is, where's like a Shane McLanahan gonna go next year,
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: Where's the Spencer Strider gonna go? Where are some of
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: these guys that have been hurt, Shane Bieber, Where's he
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: going to go? Because that's kind of what you're getting
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: with Otani is a pitcher and you But at the
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: same time, it's like it's like, yeah, saman Bieber didn't
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: fully get back from his rehab, but yet he hits
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: forty bombs. Yeah, it's you're not too disappointed by Like
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: you didn't raft him for the for the the arm,
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: you draft him for the bat. So easy pick in
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: my opinion here for for showhand uh number one overall
- 1:21:40Speaker 3: that's where I had.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: Him as well. Okay, well yeah there wasn't the debate.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, I think I'll let you take
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: the pick, but I think the second pick is the
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: same thing too, Like there's now a debate on the
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: second pick.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: Right, Well, we'll see. I mean you you for foreshadowed
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: that I'm taking Bobby with Junior, which is exactly who
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: I'm gonna Takeobby. But Jr. Is the is the guy
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: to take, you know, he if you were talking about
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: a guy that can do the forty forty that Tawny
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: is doing this year, you it's it's probably not too
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: hard to see it with with Bobby Witt. Yeah, he's
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: banged up right now and hopefully not not too too bad,
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: but he's only grown as a hitter like year over year. Sure,
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: little luck this season, but hitting the ball hard, drives
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: good luck, you know. But what I love about Wit is,
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: you know, we're gonna be three seasons of straight back
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: to back to back thirty thirty steals. You know, he's
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: gonna most likely be two seasons back to back of
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: thirty home runs. But underneath the covers, you know, he's
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: his His strikeout rate has dropped substantially over the last
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: few years, and it gets better, and his walk rate's
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: crawling up, like he's getting more and more and more comfortable.
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: And he's he's still just twenty four years old. He
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: just turned twenty four, like to ago, and so he
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: is absolutely in his prime. And of all those guys
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: last year, the Julio's, the Corbin's, you know things like that,
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: Wit was the guy that came through and delivered. And
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: he looks like the absolute real deal. So I'm taking
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: Bobby Witt. I'm absolutely thrilled with it. I know somebody's
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: gonna argue the whys you taking Aaron Judge. You just
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: talked about maybe him in seventy home runs at this
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: point in the draft. I'm absolutely you need to get
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: the power speed combo. It is not nearly as easy
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: as it was what we thought it was last year.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I mean, I don't I think this is gonna be
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: Bobby WIT's like career year. It's just it's mostly the
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: batting average. Like, I don't the batting average has been
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: absurd in terms of like him leading the league and
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: cruising to this batting title. It looks like like I
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: don't think he's ever going to be more than a
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: three hundred hitter just because there is a lot of
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: luck involved. But part of it too is it's a
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: great home park for not only offense, but Bobby Waitt Junior.
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: That like, he just torches.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: Balls into those corners in Kaufman Stadium, and that's where
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: he's getting a lot that slug from in addition to
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: the twenty seven homers that he has so far, that
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: that is maybe a little bit of like a factor
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: to where maybe he does hit higher than three hundred.
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: Now then I'm talking to myself into it.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: If LI look at Savant, his his XBA, whether you
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: believe it or not, is three thirty two.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: So that does back that up because that's probably like
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: in terms of like I don't know if that's averaging
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: out for Kaufman Stadium too, but like yeah, that maybe
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: he is like more of a three twenty hitter in
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: his prime. And then this reminds me a lot of
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: like prime Handling Ramirez here in terms of like you're
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: I think you look at last season, especially with like
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: going thirty to fifty, and then you're adding the batting average.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: To that, like, well, that is at shortstop.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: It is an unbelievable player that if it wasn't for Otani,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: like this would be the hands down easy number one pick.
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: And Bobby Wit Jr.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: And I think betting average gets underestimated at this point
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: in the draft, Like if you're gonna get a guy
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: that his three twenty, that that does so much for
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: you later when you're like, uh, I'm I'm popping a
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: Anthony Santander Brent Rooker combo here later in the draft,
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: you're like, who cares what happens with my batting average
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: because I've got Bobby Witch Jr. So it's yeah, easy
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: pick for me. So one and two we actually agreed
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: on this year. So yeah, Ded eight, where are you
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: going with number three?
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: I am a little bit torn here. I'm not gonna lie,
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: but I think I do. I I think I've got.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: To taker and Judge here that like, especially you're just
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: looking at it this year, that this is like he
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: is so far and away in terms of the power
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: at this point that like I think the only person
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: who was really on his heels. Otani's obviously there a
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: little bit, but especially when you're looking at the RBI
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: and run production. The only person who I would have
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: kind of put into this stress for here has been
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: Mike Trout over the past like handful of years in
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: terms of what you could get that top end ceiling
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: out of a player.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: Aaron Judges right there.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: He's at sixty five sixty four and a half dollars
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: right now in our player Raider number one player, just
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: ahead of Bobby wit Junior and Otani who are at
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: fifty nine point eight and fifty eight point five. But
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: that's why, like this is a guy who almost you
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: can set and forget like fifty five homers at this point,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: like when he's healthy and going, and even this year,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: like he missed just a sliver of time.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: You know what I mean That like he's been able
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: to No, actually hasn't. I take that back. I don't know.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: Maybe I was a crediting that to win he had
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: like that, ab Ine remember being in the spring, like
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: there was a little bit of just unsureness about what
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: was going on with Aaron Judge's health at the beginning
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: of draft season, which is paid off handsomely for penenting
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: of people out there. But I do think obviously that's
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: gonna be the question mark going forward. But if he
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: ends the season healthy, he's going into drafts healthy. I
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: just don't see like how I could pass on Aaron
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: Judge at this point and like feel comfortable with it.
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I I want to disagree with you, but I
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: had never had Aaron Judges my third overall as well,
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: to the point, like it's it. It's one of those
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: where you can make an argument against it, but you're
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: trying to make an argument against him that's willing with
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: what you know you should do, Like if it was
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: the first time that he had one of these crazy seasons,
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: Like this isn't the first time. Like you know, yes,
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: health is an issue, things like that, but like, yeah,
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: he can absolutely win your league and you've got to
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: You've got to invest in it.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: Here.
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: The speed's not the same as some of these other guys,
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: but that's okay. Like when you're doubling up on the power. Uh,
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: you can deal with the speed later.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean the Banning average is going to
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: be there and especially like uh, I mean, we'll get
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: into it a little bit when I think we take
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: him here pretty soon. But I think Wan Soda is
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: coming back to New York and like, yep, once that happens,
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: like the runs in RBI production is just going to
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: be otherworldly the way it has been this year.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean maybe he'll go here.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: I don't know, like we'll see in terms of I mean,
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: like Sodo, but I'll flip it back to you for
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: the fourth pick.
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: Yeah, well I'm not going on so so we'll see
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: what you had. But but I'm gonna go with a
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: good old mister reliable. When I say good old, he's
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: not as old as you think he is. Jose ramirezkay
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: for for the Guardians. And this just comes down to
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: like you are locking in third with a two to
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: eighty average, Like that's what you were locking in And
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: if you look at this guy like his his career
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: has been so incredibly consistent that he has actually played
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty two games three times, like, but
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: he's he's been one hundred and fifty plus games six
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: times in his career. This year should be seven, and
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: then you kick out a COVID year like he's basically
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: had one year in the last nine years where he's
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: not had one hundred and fifty games and he is
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: averaged just under a thirty thirty season. So like, I
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: feel like, you know, at some point, the wheel's got
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: to fall off. But he's only thirty one. He's he's
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: gonna be thirty two in a month. Here go to
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: the next season, he'll be thirty two. So I'm looking
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: at this as a pure just reliability, really exciting. You know,
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: you know what you're getting, and you're building a team
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: around that absolute certainty with with Jose Ramirez. And to
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: me again, I think that batting average steals power combo
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: is gonna be so hard to find elsewhere in the
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: draft that he gets a little bump there, even though
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: the excitement factor isn't necessarily there with Jose Ramiros because
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: he's just done it before. He's done before. But you know,
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: if this was some young upshot rookie, we'd be talking
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: about should he have been number two in the draft?
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: Number one?
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: It's just good old study study Eddie Jose Ramiroz, So
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: give me Jose number four.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a great pick. It also like
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: it just sets and forgets.
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: Third base, which has been such a problem I think
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: for a few years.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: And like you've seen like Machado fall apart are an
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: auto fall apart that like some of the upper end
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: of that pool has gone, so it's fantastic from that,
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: and like, yeah, also just no worries about the.
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: Batting average floor. So I think that's a it's a
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: great pick.
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: He's fourth right now in our player Raider for twenty
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: twenty four at fifty one point one dollars. And when
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: I am citing that, I'm it's set to twelve team
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: five by five rodos.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: So uh yeah, we've gone relatively chalky here to kick
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: off for the first four. Not too surprising, all right?
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: Are we gonna spice it up here at number five?
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: Because this is where I think we start to see
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: a little bit of potential deviation. I get Ramiroz could
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: have been that for some folks, but I think that's
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: a pretty pretty logical one there. Yeah, I feel like
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: number five is where I think it starts to get
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: pretty from five, so I'm gonna say nine, you can
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: start shuffling. Guys are around pretty pretty.
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: Easy here, I think so, And honestly like well and
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: from four to nine, like the Jose Ramirez, and I
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: think everybody that we go through till like nine or
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: ten will be kind of like.
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: Pick your favorite and try to go that route.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: And it depends a little bit on how you're gonna
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: build your team and like what you like to target
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: in the middle rounds.
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: But yeah, I.
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: Don't know if this is what you're looking for for
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: the Spice, But yeah, I'm going La de la Cruz here.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: The ceiling is just too crazy.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: And I think I would have been in on him
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: this year more if he had had a longer run
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: last year. It just wasn't enough of like a run
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three for me to feel comfortable with
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: the proof of concept of Li de la Cruz. But
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: now that I've seen proof of concept this year, I
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: think it's gonna work. Like the batting average floor can
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: be pretty tremendous, like it might be down to thirty
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: to forty, But I don't see how he's not like
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: a lock for twenty sixty and once you're starting to
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: talk about like numbers like that in terms of power in.
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: Steals, like.
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: I'll take the shot here and hoping that like it
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: turns into something like thirty eighty or forty eighty. That
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: like there's still a lot of upside here in the
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: the a career's profile in terms of you know, he's
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: only twenty two. The strikeout rate is thirty percent, but
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: he's already cut that down a little bit from where
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: he debuted in twenty twenty three. The walks are starting
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: to increase. So if you just also want to look
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: at a blueprint of like where you can take poor
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: you know, poor to questionable plate discipline and improve those
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: skills and it takes it to superstar level.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: Just look at Bobby Witt.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: So Bobby Witt struggled with a lot of I think
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: the swing and miss and just being able to command
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: the strike zone from the hitting side the way that
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: Ellie has shown over the first year and a half,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: and like it's pretty easy to talk yourself into seeing
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: where he can go forward from there.
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: That like he is hitting two sixty five now, but like.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: I think, I don't know, like you could tell me
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: like next year he would hit two ten or he'd
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: hit three ten, and I'd be like, yeah, that sounds
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: about right, you know what.
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: Like yeah, Like I was looking at the other day,
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: it was like, man, he's in two sixty five. Don't
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: feel like it's been a two sixty five season. But
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: I also couldn't tell you what it feels like.
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. But like you, you don't even worry about
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: that with Eli Dela Cruz.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: You're worrying more about like, hey, I've got a fantastic
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: infielder who's gonna give me great counting stats. Fill up
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: the power, fill up the speed, and I'll just hope
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: that the ceiling really comes through.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: I recall earlier this season, we were, you know, doing
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: the in my top one hundred ranks, and I just
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: got lit up for Elie Dela Cruise because I had
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: him so high, and I made the point and I'm
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: gonna I'm gonna put my flag that I was right
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: in this one, which was if you bought Elie Dela Cruz,
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: this is what you signed up for. You bought Elie
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: Dela Cruz knowing he was gonna be absolutely dreadful for
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: three weeks and then he was gonna be absolutely amazing
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: for four and then he's gonna be bad for one
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: and then great for two. Like you signed up for
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: this roller coaster and you said it and forget it
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: and you look at the end of the season and go, ah,
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: that worked out, Like that's what you drafted Eli Dela
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: Cruz for. So you can't you can't sit here and
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: try to dissect what he's doing because he is lightning
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: in a bottle and you're, like I said, you're along
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: for the ride. That's what Elie dela Cruz is. And
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: if we if you were to tell me that we're
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: talking about Ellie de la Cruz first overall in twenty
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: twenty six, I would believe it. Yeah, if we were
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: talking about him a number thirty and twenty twenty six,
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: I'd also believe it. Okay, it's it's it's there's no
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: bigger spread on outcome than Ellie dela Cruz. So thanks
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: for following my steady Eddie Jose Ramirez with Ellie dela Cruz,
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: and I fully agree. I had him number five as well,
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: so we are agreed a little too much tonight.
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: So yeah, and I will say that this is probably
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: the first player though that like we've brought it up
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: a couple of times in terms of like, this is
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: where your league format is going to make big difference
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: that if you're a straight rod, that's what we're drafting
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: off here.
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: RELLI is where I'm taking here. But if it is
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: a head to head league, I would actually zig.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: And not take Ellie, probably because you're looking for somebody
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: who is a little more consistent that you can't go
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: through a fantasy season and a head to head league and
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: like have an entire month where this dude is striking
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: out forty percent of the time and not making contact,
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: because you need something that gives you value weekend week
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: out the way those top four two.
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely so all right number six, Yeah, where are
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: you going here? Well, see, I have a feeling we're
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: just being too predictable tonight. But you said it earlier.
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: We think he's going to stay in the Bronx one Soto,
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: I'm taking one. So it's it's one of those where
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: we said when he went into New York, like where
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: is the ceiling because of what he can do with
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: that porch out there and right, and you know it's
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: it's worked out, and you know we're we're looking at
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: probably maybe a forty five homer season for je so
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: doo easily have. He's already scored one hundred and eight runs.
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: I mean there's a little bit of a nice betting
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: position there with some sitting next to Aaron Judge in
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: the lineup doesn't hurt and hitting two ninety four like it,
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: and it feels like he could be better. Yes, And
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: I think that's one of those like as I look
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: at a lot of the guys that we've talked about
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: so far outside of Ramirez, and I was very i think,
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: very clear, like that study edy that you're buying there,
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: every other guy on here had some variable of luck
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: in their in their profile. Not like it's extreme, but
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: like on the better side from either the babe or
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: the home run for a fly ball or something, just
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: showed that they had. It was like a good season
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: plus a little bit of luck. Soto like, he's not
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: like he got even better from a you know, uh,
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: you know, walking more than he strikes out. His baby
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: was two ninety three, which is below his career average,
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: and you know it's it's not like he's going out
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: there and you know, just launching every single fly ball
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: it's you know, basically right above his his career average.
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: But being in New York, I that's what I would
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: expect it. So I feel like Sodo had an average
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: year for one Sodo in the Bronx. So yeah, I'm
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: taking him, and I'm looking at he could hit fifty
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: and hit three twenty and I'm not shocked at all.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: So that's Uh. You could convince me to take Soda
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: before Judge if you can, if you can convince me
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: with a little injury news on mister Judge there, but
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: I'm I'd be thrilled with one Soda at number six
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: next year.
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, what's kind of funny is like I
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: was at three, I was considering Sodo or a Judge,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: but finally and I don't know why, because like, yeah, Sodo,
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: it's crazy that like you have this profile and worth
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: taking him six, just partly because some of those other
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: guys the upside is so crazy and this is I mean,
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: I guess Judge isn't really going to give you any
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: stolen bases, but especially compared to the last few people
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: we've talked about, like Soto is going to struggle and
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: the stolem base Department.
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: But I agree. I think I don't see how the Yankees.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: On a walk like it'd be like the most generationally
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: cursing thing that could happen to a franchise to let
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: somebody like this walk Soda.
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: Is only going to be twenty six.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: He hasn't played more than a full season in a
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: spot like since you know, he keeps getting shuffled around
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: and being put into these really high stress situations of
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: like franchises trying to make playoff runs and just keeps performing.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: There's nothing I don't think that one Soto can like
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: not handle like in in terms of he's if he
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: can do this all in New York being there for
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: the first time and just like all the bright lights
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: and hasn't folded it all, like yeesh.
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: This is if you if you get Wan Soto at
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: six to two, like wow, it feels great. So I
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: totally agree this is the way I would go to.
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: All right, where are we going with number seven?
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: Okay?
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: So I think this one actually becomes pretty easy since
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: he's actually he went fourth in that meatball draft we
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: were talking about, and so I'm gonna take him here.
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: Seventh.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: That's Gunner Henderson from the Orioles. I think it's just crazy,
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: Like I don't I can't remember the last time that
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: the front end of the playerpool has been this young
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: before that we've got just like lots of youth with actual,
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: like more upside to it where you're not just taking
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: all kind of lore in Henderson, I think is a
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: part of that conversation, you know, as we've already discussed
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: with wit in Soto and Ellie that, like, I mean,
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: he's already put up a two eighty two, three sixty eight,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: five forty two, that's good for a one fifty seven
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: WRC plus this year, with thirty three bombs, fifteen stolen
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: bases at middle endfield, you know, shortstop, it could be
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: more next year, Like there is a path towards it
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: in terms of like you know, he's still got maybe
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: a little bit in terms of like what he could
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: do at the bail rate and maybe cut down the
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: strikeouts a tick more. But yeah, especially when you're looking
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: at left handed batters play really well in Baltimore. It's
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: a hot ballpark to play in. Great lineup always going
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: to be a great lineup around him. Yeah, I just
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: it's part of like, also, I can't convince myself that
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: anybody else that's kind of on the board right now
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: is better than Gunner Henderson at this point.
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I had Nderson a little bit lower, but I
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: think it's just because I was I'm really struggling, I
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: think at the back half of the first round, where
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: like I see so many guys with so much potential,
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: and Henderson doesn't have some of the same speed that
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: some of these other guys do, and I am prioritizing
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: speed a little bit more in the back half of
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: the first round. So I don't disagree. I think there's
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: more potential, here's more he can do, And I don't
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: think it's a it's a bad pick. I'm just struggling
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: with do you want speed at this point or do
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: you want that Soto type profile that the guy that
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: hits for average you're gonna drive everything in and has
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: even more growth potential. There's not a wrong choice there,
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: that's for sure. So Henderson Henderson looks great. To your point,
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: I do think he's gonna be in a fantastic lineup
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: for some time. You know, having Adlie and you know
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: Jackson Holliday, that everybody else in that lineup, it's it's
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: gonna there's gonna be a lot of runs scored in
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: Baltimore the next few years.
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. Okay, well, we're gonna get to
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: pick number eight from you. And I hate to break
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: it to you, but this is where I think it
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: starts getting tough.
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: I think it is. I'm I am struggling. I'm looking
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: at this, I'm looking at what even the I pre
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: rank some guys, and I'm looking at him like, no,
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: I just I can't do that. I can't do this,
- 1:43:14Speaker 3: Like man, it is tough, and so I'm I'm gonna
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with Mookie bets at at at number
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: seven here. You know, I look at you know, Mookie
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: being in the lineup he's in. I think he's underperformed
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: this year to a degree, and you know, he's he
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: should have I think, uh multipositional eligibility uh next year,
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: thanks to whatever in the world they're doing there in
- 1:43:44Speaker 3: LA at times. But you know, I I still think
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: he's one of those guys that in that lineup when
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: he is, you know, at his best, he could score
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: more runs than anybody else in the majors. And he's
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: he's also a guy that can be a easy twenty
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: twenty guy, maybe a thirty twenty five guy like he
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: has that absolute potential. Sure, he's had a little bit
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: less delivery. This year hasn't been quite as exciting for uh,
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: for what I expected, because you know, I was looking
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: at Bets as potentially maybe like the number two guy
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: overall coming into into this year. So I don't know,
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: Mookie Bets, tell me where where Where would you have
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: been going at at this point in time or would
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: you have been, you know, going after somebody like Muki
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: that yeah, he's missed some time, but if you you extrapolated,
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: he's probably done twenty five, twenty five, three hundred.
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: And I mean, that's exactly I was gonna.
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: Why do you feel like he's underperformed, because like, if
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: you're getting a shortstop, second base outfielder who can if
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: it wasn't for the injury, that's where he was he
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: would have.
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: That's it's the injury that I think is gonna row
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: people off because as you start looking at overall stats
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: and things like that, he's just he hasn't done that.
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: He also hasn't this is not this is Mookie's profile.
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: He's not had like those that like amazing month or
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: anything like that. He's that's not who he is, and
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: so I think he can tend to sneak up on
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: you as far as his overall results. So yeah, I
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: still struggle with things. I think there's maybe some more
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: upside out there with some other guys, but not there's
- 1:45:26Speaker 3: also some pretty big downside.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think, I mean, if anything like the
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: tiebreaker might I think this is a great spot this.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: I'm glad that you kind of also made this pixel
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: kind of clears of the board for me a little
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: bit to make a decision because I think you can
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: also lean on the tiebreaker being that shortstop outfield eligibility
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: he'll be carrying into twenty twenty five. That that is
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: huge for bookie bets. That's two the harder areas to
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: find depth, just to be able to make sure you
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: get enough people out there. If you're playing in leagues
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: with am I positions and five standard outfielders, it can
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: get to be a slog finding spots. And like if
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: you're able to zig and zag throughout the twenty twenty
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: five season to be able to hit go out and
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: pick up the hottest middle infielder or the hottest outfielder
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: and be able to slot them into your lineup and
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: move Mooki around.
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: That's very, very huge.
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and just even from a draft perspective, being able
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: to pick that not having to like think about it, like, yeah,
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: if I if I get the next round, if somebody drops,
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: I'm really excited about I just grab them. I don't
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: worry about that. I can move Mooki around even mid draft.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. Okay, well pick number nine to me, and
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: I don't feel great about any of these cher This.
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: Is uh, this is where it gets tough. This is
- 1:46:47Speaker 3: where it gets tough.
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: I think I have to go Kyle Tucker. I think
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: that you do.
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: This shin injury though, Like this is weird, right, Like
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: it's gotten to be like this is starting to be
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: like a little bit of like that Mic Trout like
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: calf injury thing where I mean broone bruises or bone bruises.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: I understand they can be finicky and whatever, YadA, YadA YadA.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: We're also dealing with a major league organization that has
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: access to whatever kind of medical devices and treatments that
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: they want, and it just seems really crazy that they
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: can't get this bone bruise situation under control for Kyle Tucker,
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: who at this point, you know, you want to talk
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: about somebody who has gotten forgotten because of an injury,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: Like you know, Tucker's up there, I think with bets
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: because he hasn't played at this point since June third. Yeah,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: and if you draft him, he probably tanked your season
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: because this is not the type of guy where you
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: can like go without that because it's not like a
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: peaks and values, you know what I mean. Like it
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: does feel a little bit more like you're able to
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: do that with some of the other players who aren't
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: kind of this holistic profile. I need thirty homers and
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: twenty stone bases from this guy for my team to
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: work out that. If you know, you got somebody who's
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: an all one category player, it's easier to mix and
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: match and replace them. And so because of that, like, yeah,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: and I think this is maybe one that could change
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: a lot going into the next season because like, if
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: we do see Kyle Tucker come back over the next
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: couple of months, get healthy, get hot, play well in
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: the playoffs, I think he gets up into like that
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: five to six discussion, four five to six discussion. But
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: if not like, let's say he doesn't make it back
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: this season. It kind of is like the question of
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: the offseason for the Astros. Doesn't play in the playoffs,
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: he might slip into the second round because like, if
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: it is that significant of an injury where he can't
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: make it back from June to the end of the year,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: I do not want any part of Kyle Tucker at
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: number nine.
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: But like, just given what.
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: I know about Kyle Tucker's profile right now and like
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: trying to predict that that injury will be okay in
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: spring twenty twenty five, I'm I've got taken right here
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: because compared to the other guys, uh, the other injury
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: concerns concerned me more, I think, is what it is?
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think you're fair. So yep, I
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: would I would have been all over Tucker here for
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: UH and I agree with that pick. It does it
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: does just start getting dicey ye, And it's you know,
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: is I as I look at what, uh, I think
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: I'm number ten here, It's we're starting to get to
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: that like where do where do I take my risk?
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: And do I want to take risk in that first round?
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: And I don't think I can quite get there at
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: this point. So for me, I I you know, there
- 1:49:50Speaker 3: there might be higher upside, but I'm going with another
- 1:49:55Speaker 3: old reliable, Uh. From my perspective, Francisco Lindoor is where
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: I'm going.
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: In at eleven nice try.
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: You know, I'm making this amazing team with the old
- 1:50:11Speaker 3: Cleveland Indians middle infield. I don't know what you're doing
- 1:50:14Speaker 3: over there, but you know, Lindor's gonna have back to
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: back thirty thirty seasons here, and you know he's gonna
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: probably have one hundred runs and yeah, probably not gonna
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: quite get there with the RBIs, but he's kind of
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: been just averaging this for the last three three seasons,
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: maybe a little less than the Steels. With the Steels,
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: kind of the new rules last year seemed to kind
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: of pick right back up for him, and it's it's
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: just been what who Lindor is? Like, it's slightly less reliable.
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: Those are ra mirrors, but not too far off. So
- 1:50:47Speaker 3: I think, you know, there's something about playing for the Mets,
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: and he had a little tough start this year that
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: it seems like people just wrote him off and then
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: he's been nothing but unbelievable. The greater part of the
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: season here, even to the point where some people are
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: trying to make a case that he's gonna be an
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: MVP conversation, which there literally is no MVP conversation in
- 1:51:10Speaker 3: the NL, despite what you tried to throw out there
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: with kenvil Marte earlier, because Tani is gonna win the bet.
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: But yeah, I think Lindor is here again. You talk
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: about health and consistency and the speed and the solid average,
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: that's what you're getting and so another guy that you
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: set it forget it and are really happy. So I
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: got lind Or. I may have stolen from you, and
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: I'm very pleased with myself for doing that. So what
- 1:51:37Speaker 3: do you think is that? Was that the easy pick
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: for you?
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: I don't know if it was the easy pick.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: I think my pick that I'm going to make next
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: I would have rather had over Lindor. But I think
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: it's a great pick because of everything that you just
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: went through that like, especially yeah, if you have been
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: thrown off by those cold starts to begin the year.
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: I think that's actually part of it, is that, like
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: Joseo Bray, you went through this in Chicago like he
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: was always terrible in April. Because I think he just
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: doesn't like cold weather. And I wouldn't be surprised if
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: Lindor's in that same boat where it just takes a
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: month for him to for it to warm up and
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: for him to get comfortable. And so, yeah, everything that
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: you went through exactly why I'm on board with Lindor
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: only going to be going into his age thirty one season.
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: Just I do think that he's got a little bit
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: more shot the MVP than you do. Partly because like,
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: if the Mets do thread the needle and make the playoffs,
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: make the playoffs and Lindor is up at like thirty
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: thirty thirty thirty five with the defense and he's a
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: part of like that run, then it'll be hard to
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: not get him into that conversation. But he's certainly it's
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: not I'm giving it like a five percent chance, you
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: know what I mean, it's not very large. Don't go
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: out there collecting those Francisco Indoor cards for.
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: The MVP buy back.
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, all right, I think where are you going?
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: Here is your last pick, So let's make a count.
- 1:53:04Speaker 3: And I'm hoping you don't do what I want to
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: do at number twelve.
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: I think I probably am because this is where I
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: have to take Ronald Lacuna, Like I think I can't
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: let him drop further than this.
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: I don't feel great about it.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: I won't lie that like if I have him in
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: in a keeper dynasty situation. I am scared out of
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: my mind with this guy coming back from a second
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: ACL surgery, having both acls knocked out.
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: But he's always been.
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: Such a solid power hitter too that even if it
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: comes down to something maybe like a thirty thirty or
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: thirty thirty five, like as he works his way back,
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: and we also saw the season where he worked his
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: way back from that initial ACL injury and it didn't
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: go so hot, you know, in terms of that twenty
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: twenty season, but it was also twenty twenty, so it's
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: kind of like, yeah, chicken or egg, Like I don't
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: know what caused it, if it was the twenty twenty
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: stuff or his ACL, so that makes it tough. But yeah,
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: it's not a situation where like like I said, I
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: don't feel great about this, especially considering he was only
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: at a one o five WRC plus before he went
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: down that it was clear that the bat had shifted
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: or just like his approach had not gotten in line
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: for the season. But also he can be a little
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: bit of like a streaky player, where like it all
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: clicks and he just goes off.
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: So he probably had a.
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: Little bit that invent in him eventually, and a Kunya
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: just wasn't able to tap into it because of the injury.
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: But this is where I'm gonna take Ronald le Kunya
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: and about where I would feel comfortable with.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: Him, just like in the back end of the first round.
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And I'll say I as I've looked at my
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: ranks and during this conversation, I actually had him ranked
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: number seven behind man Soto, and I could not I
- 1:54:56Speaker 3: could not bring myself to draft him. Every time he
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: came to me, I'm like, I just there's too much
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: risk in that profile. There's just too much risk in
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: that profile. I just couldn't do it. And I honestly
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: was wouldn't have done it at eleven either. There's somebody
- 1:55:11Speaker 3: else that I would rather take at eleven than the
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: Kunya I would have done at twelve. So I do
- 1:55:16Speaker 3: think that there's there starts to be a drop off
- 1:55:19Speaker 3: once you get past that that first round where it
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: just feels like there's a lot more question marks. Then
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: even when we've had the past few years, I feel
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: like you got into like the mid second, late second,
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: and it is like, still feel pretty reliable, but like you're
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: talking like Freddie Freeman's Tatis sword On's like guys that
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: like just have a lot more questions. Maybe Harper is
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: trying to play in that game. But but I'm gonna zag,
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna do it. I'm going with it.
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: I gotta get my my drink here. Paul Skans got
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: Paul Skeen's number twelve for those that are listening, I
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: got my Pirates mug right next.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: To me here there.
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: I've been foreshadowing that the entire episode with my water
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: over here. But yeah, I'm looking at Paul Skeens at
- 1:56:10Speaker 3: the end of the first round there, I could argue
- 1:56:13Speaker 3: maybe even nine to ten. And it's the same argument
- 1:56:17Speaker 3: for Spencer Strider come into this year. If you look
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: at the one guy that is going to pace the
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: field with strikeouts against the Indians pitched, it's gonna be
- 1:56:26Speaker 3: Paul Skans and he's been absolutely unbelievable this year, and
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: it feels like he's still trying to figure it out,
- 1:56:34Speaker 3: trying to figure it out, like he still just came
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: under the league and there's feels like there's more in
- 1:56:42Speaker 3: the tank here. And that's that's the thing with Skeens
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: is you know he actually made Pittsburgh interesting. He actually
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: made his like, well, you pitched for Pittsburgh, you're not
- 1:56:51Speaker 3: gonna get wins, Like the guy's got eight wins and
- 1:56:53Speaker 3: seventeen starts, Like you can see a twenty game winner
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: in Pittsburgh and they still don't know how to hit
- 1:56:58Speaker 3: the ball. So I think Skeens is one of those
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: guys that you can you can look at it and go,
- 1:57:04Speaker 3: I'm gonna draft you. I'm gonna have an insane amount
- 1:57:08Speaker 3: of case. He can go pretty deep into games, and
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: I think they're gonna keep building him up to do
- 1:57:12Speaker 3: more and more of that. So I'm excited about him.
- 1:57:15Speaker 3: And uh, it was if I look at any picture
- 1:57:18Speaker 3: early next year, it's like, I think Schooble's gonna be
- 1:57:21Speaker 3: in the conversation guys like that, and I just don't trust
- 1:57:23Speaker 3: the rest of them, and I don't I feel like
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: we're still thread the needle with Skiings at this point.
- 1:57:30Speaker 3: He doesn't have enough mileage where I'm actually too concerned
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: about the injuries quite yet. So maybe I'm crazy, but
- 1:57:37Speaker 3: I'm I'm going to take a picture at the very
- 1:57:39Speaker 3: end of the first round with mister Skeens.
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean that's what the Meatball draft had
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: as well, that like Schemes and Scooball were the only
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: two that went in the first round. There or two
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: pictures that went in the first round in that draft.
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: And I think that's probably about right for me. I'm
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: not gonna do it. I can't do it, like.
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: Seeing like this.
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: Writer stuff and just the way that pitching has kind
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: of evolved in the game. I don't think I can
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: get on board with either Schooble or Schemes unless you
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: were allowed allowing me to take them in like midway
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: through the second which isn't going to happen just because
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: of like the bats are so superb where it I
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: need a lot more.
- 1:58:26Speaker 2: Just like the risk tolerance is what it is.
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: I think that part of it too, is like I'm
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: not like anti early picture is what it is. I
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: think it's I'm anti early this set of pictures that
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: like nobody here is like a prime Justin Verlander, Clayton Kershaw,
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: Max schurz Er like workhorse ace, no questions in terms
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: of like workload or injury history or anything like that,
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: or velocity or pitching approach the way that Schemes and
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: Schooble are that certainly like it happened in the Meatball
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: draft too, where like Wheeler went in the middle of
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: the second, then you had Burns and Kirby at that
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: back into the second.
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: I'm okay with that, like, because those guys give you.
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: Such a huge floor of volume, like we talked about earlier,
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: especially with Kirby. That like, those are probably and those
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: are three types of starting pitchers that I would love
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: to target, is Wheeler, Burns and Kirby. But yeah, in
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: a in a sninking format where you get one shot
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: at a pick, no thank you, I can't do it
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: in auction leagues. I'm all in on skeens.
- 1:59:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, what's what kind of does it for me?
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: Is?
- 1:59:35Speaker 3: I look and I'm just looking at that Meatball draft
- 1:59:37Speaker 3: as far as like the guys that kind of went next.
- 1:59:39Speaker 3: I started looking at him like, I don't know that
- 1:59:41Speaker 3: I can then good conscience take some of these guys,
- 1:59:44Speaker 3: right if I'm looking to hear, like do I want
- 1:59:46Speaker 3: Schemes or Julia Rodriguez probably take Skeens. Do I want
- 1:59:50Speaker 3: Tatiste or I want lad your Don Corby and Carroll Corey,
- 1:59:55Speaker 3: seeger Jar and Duran. Like I'm just sitting here going
- 1:59:58Speaker 3: like I got so many question marks, I'm almost all
- 2:00:01Speaker 3: those guys that I might as well take the hail
- 2:00:03Speaker 3: Mary here and go for it. Is kind of where
- 2:00:06Speaker 3: I came from, because I I'm actually like almost avoiding
- 2:00:11Speaker 3: the vast majority of like the second round and like
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: from a more of an auction perspective next year, Like
- 2:00:17Speaker 3: I look at those guys, I'm like, I'm I'm probably
- 2:00:19Speaker 3: out on like the vast majority of that group until
- 2:00:24Speaker 3: you start to get maybe into the third and fourth
- 2:00:26Speaker 3: and you start talking about like Churio, Olsen, Merrill, those
- 2:00:31Speaker 3: kind of guys. So it's it's gonna be really interesting
- 2:00:36Speaker 3: after the first round next year.
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I do think that.
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: Like the way I'm also like looking at too, is
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: like when we go back to the twenty twenty four
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: first round, like even some of these guys like Julio
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: and Freddie Freeman that have really fallen flat in their face,
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: like at least they're giving you fifteen to twenty dollars
- 2:00:56Speaker 1: of auction value. You know what I mean, Like if
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: one of these pictures bombs out, it's because they blow
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: out from an injury perspective, and it you don't even
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: get the fifteen to twenty dollars.
- 2:01:06Speaker 2: And that's such a huge hole to be grinding yourself
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: out of that.
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: Like that's why I can't do it in like a
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: snake situation that certainly I don't mind like taking the
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: pitching risks. I'll start, like especially when I'm looking at
- 2:01:19Speaker 1: like the third and fourth round and like you've even
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: got like Joe Ryan going in that fourth round even
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: though he's dealing with a TA terrorist strain, you know,
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: and you've got you know, Ryan Helsley, Cole Reagan's who's
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: been like battling injuries here and there. So like I
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: will take some of those players. But like even with
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: some of the players you were talking about with Julio
- 2:01:40Speaker 1: for Nano, Tatis Junior Flag Junior, Jordan Corbyn, Carroll Seeger,
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: Jared Duran, who is like that next hitter, I would
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: not take Turan Duran there, but yeah, I would take
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: lever Well aggressive, Yeah, I would take Devers over Skeins Freeman.
- 2:01:54Speaker 1: I don't think I would Harper, I would Turner I would,
- 2:01:59Speaker 1: And then that's where I think it starts getting to
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: where like then I would take Skeens.
- 2:02:03Speaker 2: So Skeens would essentially be like what like.
- 2:02:07Speaker 1: Sixteenth, sixteenth, eighteenth somewhere in there on my board, which
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: means I won't be getting him, but like you know,
- 2:02:15Speaker 1: it's it's just a matter of the way it shuffles out,
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: the way the picks go. Yeah, I'm glad you did though,
- 2:02:22Speaker 1: because I wasn't sure if either of us was going
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: to take a picture here.
- 2:02:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I just had to go for it. I had
- 2:02:27Speaker 3: to make the gamble.
- 2:02:29Speaker 2: Well yeah, that uh yeah, that was fun.
- 2:02:31Speaker 1: So, like we said, we'll come back in the spring
- 2:02:34Speaker 1: and do some cart collecting with these and hopefully maybe we.
- 2:02:38Speaker 2: Just predicted like the top twelve right off the bat.
- 2:02:40Speaker 2: Maybe we're that good.
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: But we'll compare it to where things start settling early
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: in draft seasons, come like late January, early February.
- 2:02:49Speaker 2: So, brew it was a great episode.
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: Let everybody know where they can find you out there
- 2:02:54Speaker 1: on socials and read your pieces.
- 2:02:56Speaker 3: Yep, find me on Twitter slash exit Jaybrewer one seven,
- 2:03:00Speaker 3: find me on the weekends, raz Ball on Sundays doing
- 2:03:02Speaker 3: top one hundred hitters and hitter profiles. We'll be probably
- 2:03:05Speaker 3: finishing off the season with probably our last rankings coming
- 2:03:09Speaker 3: up this weekend. Gets a little tough to do top
- 2:03:11Speaker 3: one hundred hitters last week of the season. Nobody really
- 2:03:14Speaker 3: wants to read that, So we'll probably be hitting hitter
- 2:03:18Speaker 3: profiles for the Jority of the West the way out
- 2:03:20Speaker 3: after we cap off what September is going to look like.
- 2:03:23Speaker 3: So that's it for me.

- 2:03:38Speaker 1: for your killtel Marte drops I got you as we
- 2:03:41Speaker 1: got just like all sorts of weird situations to figure
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: out in terms of playing time and injuries and stuff
- 2:03:48Speaker 1: like that. It gets wild. It's fun, But you can
- 2:03:51Speaker 1: check me there on Saturdays. You can find me on
