- 0:03Speaker 1: All right, all right, yo yo yo, little Live from Philly.
- 0:08Speaker 1: It's the number one rated Polly and Tony Fosco show.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Yo yo, Polly Foolsco here with Tony Fosco and Tony
- 0:18Speaker 1: Huge show today mL opening Day. But Major League Baseball
- 0:25Speaker 1: going ahead and just crapping all over this story that
- 0:28Speaker 1: came believe it, doing all these terrible rules, totally ruining
- 0:32Speaker 1: the game. We're gonna get into all that and tell
- 0:34Speaker 1: you why. But first, just a brief and frankly needless
- 0:39Speaker 1: programming note from our broadcasting partners at iHeartRadio and Fox
- 0:43Speaker 1: Sports Radio. They asked us to remind you to go
- 0:47Speaker 1: on your podcast platform and rate and review the show.
- 0:51Speaker 1: And as we told them what we've always said, why
- 0:54Speaker 1: do we need to a rate and review the show?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Why would we need? The show's great? Yeah, we know
- 0:59Speaker 1: it's good. So yeah, if you want to, if you
- 1:01Speaker 1: want to waste your time doing that, we'll go ahead
- 1:03Speaker 1: and be our guest. Yeah, throw your life away, go ahead,
- 1:07Speaker 1: knock yourself out. Anyway, to more important business today's show.
- 1:10Speaker 1: As we said, major League Baseball making some absolutely bone
- 1:14Speaker 1: headed changes, just ruining the spot. And to discuss that
- 1:17Speaker 1: I can't bring it on someone who actually seems to
- 1:19Speaker 1: know baseball. Maybe, you know, unlike our last guest last week,
- 1:23Speaker 1: Rob Parker, who just totally reminds himself. Well, our guest
- 1:27Speaker 1: today is a former ESPN anchor who he now works
- 1:31Speaker 1: for MLB Network. Add Nan Verk and Tony. You know,
- 1:35Speaker 1: we've got some better, smarter rule changes that we're going
- 1:39Speaker 1: to present to him. And you know, Tony, I have
- 1:41Speaker 1: a feeling guy. He's gonna be impressed, so impressed that
- 1:45Speaker 1: he's gonna want to take them to a commissioner man
- 1:47Speaker 1: for himself. Yeah, but he better not take credit for them,
- 1:50Speaker 1: It's all I know. Yeah, he better not. Well before
- 1:53Speaker 1: we get to our top story, a little more quick
- 1:55Speaker 1: business up top. As you know on this show in
- 1:57Speaker 1: the past, we've promoted the business Zip Recruiter. Well, now
- 2:02Speaker 1: another company has stepped in and paid us much more
- 2:05Speaker 1: money than Zipp Recruiter. So now we're going to do
- 2:07Speaker 1: a sponsored message for them. Are you looking for a job, Well,
- 2:12Speaker 1: don't use Zip recruiter. Use indeed, Isn't that right, Donty? Yep,
- 2:17Speaker 1: we know indeed does virtually the same thing as Zipp recruiter,
- 2:21Speaker 1: but it's just better trust us. Go online now and
- 2:25Speaker 1: enter the promo called Zipp Recruiter Sucks for one point
- 2:28Speaker 1: three percent off your first year's subscription. Offer not valid
- 2:31Speaker 1: outside the US Virgin Islands. Indeed. Okay, well, now that
- 2:35Speaker 1: we got another just out of the way sorted out,
- 2:37Speaker 1: let's get right into our top story story. Well, opening
- 2:45Speaker 1: day is it donty? But there is without controversy, the
- 2:50Speaker 1: MLB instituting a bunch of rules designed to make the
- 2:53Speaker 1: game safer, faster, and also terrible. Their first rule, which
- 2:59Speaker 1: is just horrible, is these a pitch clocks. Now, the
- 3:01Speaker 1: way these works, if you haven't seen them, if a
- 3:04Speaker 1: pitcher doesn't deliver a pitch before the clock expires, it's
- 3:07Speaker 1: called a ball. And if a batta doesn't get in
- 3:10Speaker 1: the box before the clock expires, well that's called a strike.
- 3:14Speaker 1: And everything I just told you it was called total bulls.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Isn't that right, Tony? It's terrible. First of all, why
- 3:21Speaker 1: are they trying to make the game shorter? The number
- 3:24Speaker 1: one rule of business is to provide value for your customers.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Shouldn't you give your customers more of what they want?
- 3:31Speaker 1: You know, I used to love eating at Chipotle, but
- 3:34Speaker 1: then every time I went they gave me less and
- 3:37Speaker 1: less chicken in my burrito. Bawl. Now I don't like Chipotle,
- 3:42Speaker 1: and now Baseball's making the same mistake Chipotle made. If
- 3:46Speaker 1: you ask me, this is just terrible business practices. So truth, Tony,
- 3:52Speaker 1: And you know, this is just further proof of what's
- 3:55Speaker 1: gone wrong with our society and this generation they got
- 3:59Speaker 1: come it up there, you know, the MLB, they're just
- 4:02Speaker 1: trying to cater to this young, distracted audience. And you know,
- 4:06Speaker 1: there's a name for whatever's going on in this generation.
- 4:10Speaker 1: It's called attention deficit disorder. This is a absolute problem.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Look at us. And you know, if a young man
- 4:18Speaker 1: can't sit down to watch a four hour, twelve inning,
- 4:21Speaker 1: maybe thirteen inning baseball game, you know, frankly, I'm frightened
- 4:26Speaker 1: for the future Rock Country, aren't you, Tony? One hundred percent?
- 4:30Speaker 1: And I also keep hearing people these days say nobody
- 4:33Speaker 1: wants to watch movies anymore. I do, Yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 4:37Speaker 1: And we all know the best movies are always the longest.
- 4:41Speaker 1: In fact, I put together a graphic of the top
- 4:44Speaker 1: five movies of all time and their run times. Let's
- 4:48Speaker 1: pull it up. Number one, The Godfather three hours. Number two,
- 4:54Speaker 1: The Godfather Part two three hours and twenty two minutes.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Number three The Irishman three hours of twenty nine minutes,
- 5:03Speaker 1: just flew by. Number four Meet Joe Black three hours
- 5:08Speaker 1: in one minute. And finally number five Water World. Three
- 5:15Speaker 1: terrific hours. Great analysis, Tony. And you know that's the
- 5:20Speaker 1: only terrible change that baseball's making this year. They made
- 5:24Speaker 1: the bases bigger, fifteen inches to eighteen inches, making the
- 5:29Speaker 1: distance between first and second base is now a three
- 5:32Speaker 1: and a half inches shorter. Now this is say, it's
- 5:35Speaker 1: the decrease injuries and encourage stolen bases and whatever. You know.
- 5:39Speaker 1: But there's a lot of blowback to this move, as
- 5:42Speaker 1: there should be in some of it good coming from
- 5:44Speaker 1: a legend all time leading base stealer, of course, Ricky Henderson,
- 5:50Speaker 1: who said quote, I wish the game would be just
- 5:54Speaker 1: left alone. And you know, Ricky Henderson is totally right,
- 5:58Speaker 1: at Tony, we should game alone. In fact, you know,
- 6:01Speaker 1: I think personally we should have never touched the game
- 6:04Speaker 1: in the first place. It was perfect to begin with.
- 6:07Speaker 1: And you know we've made a ridiculous changes. Well we
- 6:10Speaker 1: should start going back and undoing these changes. You know,
- 6:13Speaker 1: the game should be kept exactly as the founders meant
- 6:16Speaker 1: it to be. And in fact, you know, you and I, Tonty,
- 6:19Speaker 1: we wrote down a few rules that we'd like to
- 6:21Speaker 1: see repeal, these rules that have ruined the game. Let's
- 6:24Speaker 1: start with this one. This one game. In eighteen fifty seven,
- 6:28Speaker 1: they changed the rule of when games could end. You know,
- 6:31Speaker 1: it used to be that a game wouldn't end until
- 6:33Speaker 1: a team scored twenty one runs. And that's a great idea. Yeah,
- 6:38Speaker 1: because you know, you say people you want offense. Well,
- 6:41Speaker 1: wasn't that better? You know, players know, they couldn't leave
- 6:44Speaker 1: until they crossed home played twenty one times. Yeah. That
- 6:48Speaker 1: also probably created real urgency, especially if the players and
- 6:53Speaker 1: fans you know, needed to go eat dinner or go
- 6:56Speaker 1: to sleep or something like that. Yeah, and here's another
- 6:59Speaker 1: rule I'd like to see them get rid of. Eighteen
- 7:01Speaker 1: eighty five, they started allowing catches and umpires to use
- 7:06Speaker 1: chess protectors. Well, that totally sucked the fun out of
- 7:09Speaker 1: the game too, didn't it, Tony? Absolutely think about all
- 7:13Speaker 1: the drama taken away. What didn't you want to see
- 7:16Speaker 1: a catcher be like, oh, that bitch is coming way
- 7:18Speaker 1: too fast and have to jump out of the way absolutely.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And here's another one. Don't he get this? Eighteen sixty
- 7:25Speaker 1: two they went ahead and they regulated bat size, meaning
- 7:29Speaker 1: they're limited how big a bat could be. That had
- 7:34Speaker 1: to ruin all the fun too. I mean think about it.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You could have a guy going up there like Hack Saw,
- 7:38Speaker 1: Jim Duggan, you know, with a big piece of lumba
- 7:40Speaker 1: and just cranking one. Yeah, like a regular Paul Revere. Yeah. Well,
- 7:45Speaker 1: you know the fun police ruined that. And here's another one.
- 7:48Speaker 1: They ruined last one here. Eighteen ninety one they started
- 7:52Speaker 1: allowing catches to wear those are large padded myths. Why
- 7:57Speaker 1: should catches get a different glove? You ever think about that?
- 8:00Speaker 1: The stand totally boring, an unfair advantage for them. You know,
- 8:03Speaker 1: a normal mint would open the door. You'd have more
- 8:05Speaker 1: wild pitches all the game. Yeah, if something is called wild,
- 8:11Speaker 1: what do you want more of it? You know, like
- 8:15Speaker 1: wild berries, wild music, Ricky wild, think Vaughan the best
- 8:22Speaker 1: part of Major League gen Wilder, All terrific points there, Tony.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And you know, finally, one more thing about Opening Day.
- 8:31Speaker 1: You know, clearly it's the biggest story in all of sports,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but that hasn't stopped all these desperate sports networks like
- 8:38Speaker 1: ESPN from trying to cram other useless sports stories down
- 8:42Speaker 1: our throat and call them headlines. So we're gonna do
- 8:46Speaker 1: right now, dony Is, I'm gonna read you actual headlines
- 8:49Speaker 1: from the ESPN dot com front page website. Okay, I'm
- 8:53Speaker 1: gonna ask you if you care or not. It's a
- 8:56Speaker 1: segment we call. Do you give a Do you give a?
- 9:01Speaker 1: First headline? Here? Tony Silver hopeful of NBA CBA deal
- 9:07Speaker 1: by end of week. Do you give a I am
- 9:11Speaker 1: hopeful that I will avoid this article? No? Okay? Nil
- 9:18Speaker 1: chaos targeted during congressional hearing. Do you give a I
- 9:24Speaker 1: am not hearing anything interesting. No PGA live golfers not
- 9:32Speaker 1: expecting drama at Masters. Do you give a I am
- 9:37Speaker 1: not expecting to read this article. No. NFL now to
- 9:43Speaker 1: let players wear number zero. Do you give a I
- 9:48Speaker 1: will contribute zero time to reading this article? No six
- 9:54Speaker 1: billion dollar bids submitted for commanders. Sources say, do you
- 9:59Speaker 1: get of my? Sources say, don't read this article? No? Okay,
- 10:06Speaker 1: last one hit Tony former Stanford star Madison hired to
- 10:11Speaker 1: coach cal Do you give a fuck? Hm? You know?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Mark Matson has done an excellent job coaching the men's
- 10:19Speaker 1: basketball team at Utah Valley, leading the Wolverines to a
- 10:23Speaker 1: regular season Whack championship and the n i T Semifinals.
- 10:28Speaker 1: He also has a deep background as both a Final
- 10:30Speaker 1: Four participant with Stanford and as a long time NBA
- 10:34Speaker 1: player and coach. So given that Cal finished last in
- 10:38Speaker 1: the Pac twelve and clearly needs a top down reboot,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I'm very interested to see how this higher plays out
- 10:45Speaker 1: over the next few years. And such a very unpredictable conference.
- 10:50Speaker 1: So yes, Wow, just tremendous analysis that Dony and Got
- 10:58Speaker 1: Things segment. Do you give a just in time? Because
- 11:03Speaker 1: I see our guests coming on the line, So let's
- 11:06Speaker 1: go ahead and bring him on the Fusco satellite network.
- 11:12Speaker 1: He got his start as an anchor on ESPN Sports Center.
- 11:16Speaker 1: He now works as a commentator personality on the MLB network,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, and probably now that the game's a shorter,
- 11:23Speaker 1: he's probably getting more airtime there. So good for him. Anyway,
- 11:27Speaker 1: let's bring him on here. Adding and Verk, welcome to
- 11:30Speaker 1: the show. Welcome h Polly Tony. Great to see you guys.
- 11:33Speaker 1: As a fellow Eagles fan, I've been a huge fan
- 11:35Speaker 1: of your guys working throw the Talk Philly Sports and
- 11:37Speaker 1: you're right started at the ESPM. But now I'm getting
- 11:40Speaker 1: a lot more air to Movie Network tomorrow. As a
- 11:41Speaker 1: matter of fact, we're on from noon till one into
- 11:44Speaker 1: the Yankees Giants game and then postgame probably last three,
- 11:47Speaker 1: three to five. So heah shorter rules more broadcasts. But
- 11:51Speaker 1: think this is a lot. You're probably a businessman, you think,
- 11:54Speaker 1: all right, and you're plug in very naturally. You got
- 11:56Speaker 1: it in there. Yeah, you complimented us up top, you
- 12:00Speaker 1: know you just that shows me the best start to
- 12:02Speaker 1: an interview, and that's our history, Papa. Yeah, that's how
- 12:05Speaker 1: you do. And take notes, everybody list, that's how you start.
- 12:08Speaker 1: He's a professional based on that. Let's talk business with you,
- 12:12Speaker 1: all right, so we all know your employer a Major
- 12:14Speaker 1: League Baseball commissioner, Rob Manfred right then, making a push
- 12:17Speaker 1: to make these games short, as you said, with these
- 12:20Speaker 1: pitch clocks. But doesn't this seem a little bit foolish
- 12:23Speaker 1: to you? You know, anyone who knows anything about business
- 12:25Speaker 1: as you do knows the last thing you want to
- 12:28Speaker 1: do is give you a consumers less right. You want
- 12:31Speaker 1: to keep people as happy and baseball. Fans want more baseball.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Doesn't this just seem like terrible business practices to you? No,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I disagree with Fallas. I think bigger is better isn't
- 12:41Speaker 1: a theory that works in baseball. I think you look
- 12:43Speaker 1: at the market research. They've talked to fans, they've talked
- 12:46Speaker 1: to players. As a matter of fact, everybody wants a
- 12:48Speaker 1: quicker game three hours and a three minute game, which
- 12:51Speaker 1: is inefficient in today's world. Fans want things faster they
- 12:54Speaker 1: will be able to consume it and quicker more to
- 12:56Speaker 1: adjustable bites. I'm Kustin, Ransegardens, Arn and Bora. I have
- 12:59Speaker 1: not heard one undissenting voice so far. Yes, they never
- 13:04Speaker 1: reached out to and on the subject to digestible bites,
- 13:08Speaker 1: Tony take it here tell him? Yeah. Actually, add let
- 13:11Speaker 1: me ask you. Have you ever been to Chipotle? I've been,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I've just troll. Yeah. My wife's actually a big fan.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, okay, so was I absolutely. But you know
- 13:21Speaker 1: what happened was every time I'd go to Chipotle in
- 13:24Speaker 1: order chicken, they would start giving me less and less
- 13:27Speaker 1: chicken every time. Now I don't want to go there anymore.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Don't you think baseball's making the same mistake. Yep, No,
- 13:35Speaker 1: I wouldn't equate Major League Baseball to Chipotle Chicken. I
- 13:38Speaker 1: mean that that's an issue where yes, I'm with you,
- 13:40Speaker 1: you want more chickens a matter of factor. Yeah, I'd
- 13:43Speaker 1: a roasted chicken sub football fourteen dollars and eighty five
- 13:46Speaker 1: cents because I wanted extra meat. So I wouldn't equate
- 13:50Speaker 1: culinary skills to Major League Baseball. I think I think
- 13:53Speaker 1: for food as a matter of fact, to draw the
- 13:56Speaker 1: food and analogy, I think baseball by having a pitch
- 13:58Speaker 1: block is trimming the fat when it comes to these games.
- 14:01Speaker 1: But it's insulting to call anybody fat these days. That's
- 14:04Speaker 1: you're fat shaming baseball is what you're doing. I mean yeah,
- 14:07Speaker 1: I mean just think here, you're a businessman, adding and
- 14:10Speaker 1: you work for the MLB network. You're basically saying that
- 14:13Speaker 1: too much baseball is a bad thing. Come on, that's
- 14:15Speaker 1: what you're saying. Isn't that you're being a terrible employee. No, No,
- 14:20Speaker 1: it doesn't make me a terrible employee. I'm totally on
- 14:22Speaker 1: board with every rod man for the major the baseball
- 14:24Speaker 1: are doing. Again, it comes back to you kind of
- 14:27Speaker 1: have more visually pleasurable games. I mean, I don't understand
- 14:30Speaker 1: you guys want a four hour baseball game. Last ask
- 14:33Speaker 1: you something? You talked about this survey. Who did they survey?
- 14:36Speaker 1: Who the hell are these more runs they survey? What
- 14:39Speaker 1: is it? All gen zs that are on their phones
- 14:41Speaker 1: come out? Who are they asking? Well? I know you
- 14:43Speaker 1: guys don't mean that you're not supsoed to be disrespectful
- 14:45Speaker 1: towards millennials. We know that everybody's a base. No, no,
- 14:48Speaker 1: we are definitely being disrespectful to millennials. You know. Doesn't
- 14:52Speaker 1: it make you a little concern though, that a young
- 14:54Speaker 1: man these days can't sit down and watch a four hour,
- 14:57Speaker 1: potentially twelve inning, thirteen inning game. Add that make your
- 15:00Speaker 1: concern for the future of that country? Yeah, no, I
- 15:03Speaker 1: think you have to adapt. Everything's quicker now, right, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook,
- 15:07Speaker 1: social media. These kids love that stuff, so like cable
- 15:09Speaker 1: is dying, right, Josh, these things? But add then you're
- 15:13Speaker 1: a big movie guy, right, You're a huge movie guy.
- 15:16Speaker 1: You love talking movies. But let's look at the best
- 15:19Speaker 1: movies of all time, all of them over three hours long.
- 15:23Speaker 1: The Godfather. Godfather is not three hours long, two hours
- 15:27Speaker 1: and fifty Yeah, it was five three hours because we
- 15:30Speaker 1: stayed in the theata soaking it up. All right, Sorry,
- 15:32Speaker 1: Irishman meet joe Be water World? Doesn't that prove that long?
- 15:37Speaker 1: At better? Tony, I can't understand how you actually think
- 15:40Speaker 1: like water Worlds a great movie. That's Kevin Costra's career.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I mean they called it fish Tar Are you kidding me?
- 15:48Speaker 1: The Irishman is great. I'm with him, The Irishman. That's
- 15:50Speaker 1: a great, beautiful long movie. Loris of Arabia, God with
- 15:53Speaker 1: the Wind. But I can give you lots of them.
- 15:54Speaker 1: The good Fells it's two hours and twenty minutes. Taxi
- 15:57Speaker 1: drivers an hour and fifty minutes, Raising bulls two hours
- 15:59Speaker 1: and eight minutes. You don't necessarily want long movies everything
- 16:01Speaker 1: everywhere at once, just intially. When we sit down to
- 16:04Speaker 1: watch those movies, we watch them twice just to make
- 16:06Speaker 1: them four hours. That's what we do. Now, do you hear?
- 16:10Speaker 1: You know you're plugged into baseball? Did you hear what
- 16:12Speaker 1: the all time based ceiling leader Ricky head Deson had
- 16:15Speaker 1: to say? He said, and I quote, I wish the
- 16:18Speaker 1: game would just be left alone. They don't agree with that.
- 16:23Speaker 1: That Maybe you know we're ruining the way baseball is
- 16:27Speaker 1: supposed to be. No, Ricky's just saying that because Ricky's
- 16:30Speaker 1: looking out for Ricky. I love Ricky, hens is the
- 16:32Speaker 1: greatest adoptor ever, but he's worried because what they're dooming
- 16:35Speaker 1: is with these new rules, the picture can only step
- 16:37Speaker 1: off once to picture, only throw over once the basses
- 16:40Speaker 1: are bigger. This is gonna lead to more stolen basis.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So Ricky doesn't like this because Ricky, say, hang on
- 16:44Speaker 1: a second, this is a different game when I was playing.
- 16:46Speaker 1: But you have to realize you have to adapt or die.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You cannot stay stuck in the same mold again. You
- 16:51Speaker 1: guys use businessmen as analogy. No business stays the same.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You have to you have to, man. I have to
- 16:57Speaker 1: tell you, I find this very offensive to the founders
- 17:00Speaker 1: of baseball, who created the sacred game. And in fact,
- 17:03Speaker 1: we think we agree with Ricky. We got to leave
- 17:07Speaker 1: the game on touch. We need to go back to
- 17:09Speaker 1: the way things were originally, right. Yeah, yeah, So what
- 17:12Speaker 1: we want to do, and wait till here are reasoning here,
- 17:15Speaker 1: because you're gonna be blown away. What we want to
- 17:16Speaker 1: do is we're gonna present some rules that we want
- 17:19Speaker 1: to go back to, you know, changes they made that
- 17:21Speaker 1: we want undone and we'd like you to bring these
- 17:24Speaker 1: to rob Man fresh. When you hear them, you'll you'll
- 17:26Speaker 1: see why all right in the past to the future.
- 17:29Speaker 1: You know, in eighteen fifty seven, as you might know
- 17:32Speaker 1: as a baseball man, they changed the rule of when
- 17:34Speaker 1: games could end. It used to be that a game
- 17:37Speaker 1: wouldn't end until a team scored twenty one runs. Now
- 17:40Speaker 1: don't you think that was better? Because you know it
- 17:42Speaker 1: promotes more offense. You know, teams they think, hey, we're
- 17:45Speaker 1: not getting out of here or eating dinner, going to
- 17:47Speaker 1: sleep and stows until he's called. Isn't that doesn't that
- 17:51Speaker 1: promote offense? Yeah? No, I disagree. I think there's there's
- 17:54Speaker 1: times where a great offensive baseball game can be fun.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Stroll in the nineteen nineties, who saw the explosion and
- 18:00Speaker 1: home runs, But I love a good, tight, well scoring game.
- 18:03Speaker 1: One of my favorite baseball games ever. As a matter
- 18:05Speaker 1: of fact, MLB Network has it as the number two
- 18:07Speaker 1: greatest game of all time Twins Braves ninety one World
- 18:11Speaker 1: Series Game seven. Jack Morris pitched ten inning shut out
- 18:14Speaker 1: against John Spolts. That was a one nothing game. Fells.
- 18:16Speaker 1: As you know, as baseball experts, that was baseball as
- 18:19Speaker 1: good as against. Number two baseball game of all time.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Number one was that the Reds Red Sox game nineteen
- 18:24Speaker 1: seventy five, Game six, Carlton fist again not a high
- 18:27Speaker 1: scoring Again was Game five of the two thousand and
- 18:31Speaker 1: eight World Series with the Tampa Bay Rays. We all
- 18:35Speaker 1: know that terrific rain show, the same ever, greatest ever,
- 18:40Speaker 1: But you know, all right, to each his own, all right.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Next one eighteen eighty five, you know what they did.
- 18:45Speaker 1: They allowed catches and umpires to start using chess protectors.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Don't really make the game, you know, you think it
- 18:52Speaker 1: would be more exciting if you know, catches had to
- 18:54Speaker 1: you know, maybe duck out of the way. They're like, oh,
- 18:56Speaker 1: that balls so so fast. I got a job now,
- 18:59Speaker 1: let's and guys, as safety is of paramount importance, they
- 19:03Speaker 1: called catching the tools of ignorance. Without the tools, it
- 19:06Speaker 1: would just be ignorant. Like nobody wants to be a
- 19:08Speaker 1: catch without cash. That that's ridiculous. That that's the thing.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna play catch without a cop. You need to
- 19:12Speaker 1: have an athletic supporter. Come on, well, now you're thinking
- 19:15Speaker 1: that that was actually a good one. I like that
- 19:18Speaker 1: play without cops all right. Has another one that's saying
- 19:20Speaker 1: you got an open mind? That was good? All right,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you're using your creative juice? Is his one eighteen sixty
- 19:26Speaker 1: two puge mistake they made here? They regulated bat size
- 19:30Speaker 1: totally ruined the game. You know it again? Think about it?
- 19:33Speaker 1: And then what do you like to see a guy
- 19:35Speaker 1: like Hack saw Jim Duggan, you know, just come up
- 19:37Speaker 1: there with huge four and just crank one. Yeah, I
- 19:41Speaker 1: love the WWE first of all Hacks. That's you've been
- 19:43Speaker 1: talking one of my all time favorites, so the best.
- 19:45Speaker 1: You didn't get me with that reference. But no, I
- 19:46Speaker 1: mean you can't use the two by four. You can't
- 19:49Speaker 1: swing that quick enough to catch up to adjustin Merland
- 19:51Speaker 1: or Fastball weekly buy fro. There's no way. How much?
- 19:56Speaker 1: How amout you bench one sixty? But no wonder, Yeah,
- 20:01Speaker 1: you'd fall over, you know I bench yeah much five hundred? Bro,
- 20:06Speaker 1: No you that's nonsense, fall no offense. I spotted him,
- 20:10Speaker 1: Are you kidding? Jealous? Jealous hustle and our intel. Yeah,
- 20:14Speaker 1: he's jealous. Tony's seen me do it? Do it? Everybody
- 20:18Speaker 1: spotted all right, he didn't even need a spot. Last one.
- 20:21Speaker 1: All right, you'll you'll think about this one. This is
- 20:23Speaker 1: this is a very small one. You know, in nineteen
- 20:25Speaker 1: ninety one they allowed these catches to stop wearing these
- 20:28Speaker 1: ridiculous lodge padded mits. Why catches get a different mit?
- 20:33Speaker 1: I'm fair, you know, a normal fair advantage they got
- 20:36Speaker 1: to catch the ball. There would be more wild pitches,
- 20:38Speaker 1: wouldn't that be fun? Do you want a regular baseball
- 20:41Speaker 1: glove for a catcher rather than a padded mit? Yeah? No,
- 20:44Speaker 1: there's no way you're gonna have so many wild pitches. Yeah,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I mean, there's no way that guy's hands would be
- 20:49Speaker 1: I mean, you're kidding me hard. Your hand has to
- 20:52Speaker 1: be to handle that, Yati Molina. There's no way these
- 20:54Speaker 1: catches could last that long. Let's say, horrible idea. Have
- 20:56Speaker 1: you ever have you ever played baseball? Yeah? Yeah, and
- 21:00Speaker 1: played a high level. But I played. Yeah, you clearly
- 21:01Speaker 1: played an extremely low level. Yeah, your mit must have
- 21:04Speaker 1: been giant, must have been like a clown. Mit ya
- 21:08Speaker 1: exert me. You're coming out there in your chess protector
- 21:11Speaker 1: and your PHOAE rubber. Unbelievable. Look, look, come on out
- 21:17Speaker 1: of these Come on, we'll give you a writer refusal.
- 21:19Speaker 1: But out of these, which ones are these are the
- 21:21Speaker 1: you're gonna be taken to Rob Manfred? Which one stands
- 21:24Speaker 1: out to you? Listen, he's the commissioner Major League basically
- 21:27Speaker 1: signs by checks. I don't even be offensive. These ideas
- 21:29Speaker 1: are atrocious if I think, well, it's atrocious. You know
- 21:34Speaker 1: it's atrocious. You know it's a horrible ideas having you
- 21:38Speaker 1: on the show because you're yes, you're off the show.
- 21:45Speaker 1: You stuck for the c off the shot? Is he
- 21:55Speaker 1: off the line? Jay, hang up the phone. Maybe MLB
- 21:58Speaker 1: is onto something because we we should have put a
- 22:00Speaker 1: pitch clock on him. Yeah, add nan more like add
- 22:05Speaker 1: nothing to this show. Well, we're not gonna let him
- 22:08Speaker 1: ruin what was otherwise a terrific opening day show. No,
- 22:11Speaker 1: of course, we want to thank better, higher paying sponsors
- 22:15Speaker 1: at it. Yeah, and wah, you kid in me someone
- 22:21Speaker 1: who indeed needs to be fine producer, Jay, Why what
- 22:24Speaker 1: do you want? Corrections? Corrections? Okay, go whatever, Harry up
- 22:28Speaker 1: what you said? The guy who carried a large piece
- 22:31Speaker 1: of lumber was Paul Revere? Yeah, yeah, legend Yeah no, no, no,
- 22:37Speaker 1: I think you were confusing him with Paul Bunyan. Oh yeah, well,
- 22:44Speaker 1: I can't wait to be the Paul bearer at your funeral.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah you know who reves you? Nobody? Yeah? Good one,
- 22:54Speaker 1: good done. Yeah, he's done. That's it. Let's go. Why, Harry,
- 23:00Speaker 1: you said you don't like pitch clocks because you think
- 23:03Speaker 1: baseball games should be longer. Yeah, like back in the day.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Yeah no, Actually, twenty years ago baseball games only lasted
- 23:11Speaker 1: two and a half hours. Now they're averaging over three hours.
- 23:16Speaker 1: That's why they're instituting the new rule. Oh yeah, well
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm instituting a new rule. Shut the up. Yeah, you know,
- 23:26Speaker 1: the one thing that's gone on way too long your life.
- 23:31Speaker 1: We're gonna fix that. Yeah you're done yet, No more,
- 23:34Speaker 1: we're finished. What you said? The MLB has shrunk the
- 23:39Speaker 1: distance between first and second base by three and a
- 23:41Speaker 1: half inches. Yeah, pathetic, brom Well, you got the number wrong.
- 23:47Speaker 1: It's actually four and a half inches shorter. Uh you
- 23:52Speaker 1: want to handle this one downy, Yeah, my hunch tells
- 23:56Speaker 1: me this isn't the first time you heard something is
- 23:59Speaker 1: for an a half inches shorter. Oh, pitch right over
- 24:04Speaker 1: the plate that Tony ends at a Way to Day
- 24:12Speaker 1: episode there and oh and even better way, look at this,
- 24:16Speaker 1: just in time to discuss the NFL offseason coming on
- 24:20Speaker 1: the show next week. Just booked super Bowl legend Eagles
- 24:24Speaker 1: hero Nick Foles kid. Wow, don't forget subscribe on your Dobe,
