- 3:03Speaker 2: hijacked to night, ten miles west of Elm City. Call
- 3:05Speaker 2: it heaven. That truck was carrying a load worth a
- 3:07Speaker 2: most thirty thousand dollars. How about Red? Is he all right?
- 3:10Speaker 2: It's been shot, but it's only a pleasure. And the
- 3:12Speaker 2: doctor said he's in pretty good shait. You tell that
- 3:14Speaker 2: doctors that I want read to have the best of everything.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Why don't you say your name was Connor Nick Corne.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Oh you're a detective, aren't you. Well, yeah, I'm a

- 3:24Speaker 2: who held up my truck, get that cargo back, report
- 3:27Speaker 2: to meet the ball afternoon. Wait a minute, I haven't
- 3:29Speaker 2: said i'd take this kid. I'm asking you.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Wait, I how about.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Okay, I'll do it for red sake. I don't like
- 3:36Speaker 2: seeing people hijacked. Fine, see went in my office at
- 3:39Speaker 2: two o'clock sharp, good night, my back. What you're okay?
- 3:52Speaker 7: Easy?
- 3:53Speaker 2: Now? Ah, it's that's it. I'm thinking. Do you doing

- 4:02Speaker 6: I have the Armred, It's okay, Well you can't drive
- 4:05Speaker 6: with it, can you? No?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Driver, lady, I'm the superintendent. Last night was an emergency creek. Yeah, oh,
- 4:13Speaker 2: lest I want you to meet mister Cotton and miss
- 4:15Speaker 2: Dawn's let's gone. How do you do this is a
- 4:18Speaker 2: guy that ought to have this hole in his arm
- 4:19Speaker 2: instead of me. That was supposed to be his one
- 4:22Speaker 2: last night. Oh how come it was? Well I I
- 4:26Speaker 2: was sick and the boat has spread to take over
- 4:28Speaker 2: for me. I see, lucky for you. Yeah, come on, folks,
- 4:32Speaker 2: I'll take it to the box's office. He's waiting for you.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Well, it's cotta.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Why did you find out so far? Not much, mister Barton.
- 4:47Speaker 2: He did go out and take a look at the
- 4:48Speaker 2: truck last night, but we couldn't tell anything from that.
- 4:51Speaker 2: What do you mean park half a mile off the
- 4:53Speaker 2: main highway in the Seine Road. Yeah, that's where the
- 4:55Speaker 2: hijackers made me drive so that they could load this
- 4:57Speaker 2: stuff into their own truck. How about the tyre tracks
- 5:00Speaker 2: two detectives locate criminals or things like that.
- 5:02Speaker 8: Well not unless there are high attacks, mister Barton.
- 5:05Speaker 2: You see there funny amount where the truck was parked,
- 5:07Speaker 2: start a red play. But the rant had washed out
- 5:08Speaker 2: and the wheel marks the might have been in other words,
- 5:11Speaker 2: you haven't found out one plain thing. I'll see here,
- 5:13Speaker 2: mister Barton. You can't expect miracle here. Go look and
- 5:18Speaker 2: you give me a list of everything that was stolen
- 5:20Speaker 2: last night. Yes, I've got it. Right here, cigarettes, nylons, shuldarwear,
- 5:24Speaker 2: electric appliances, chemicals, and a lot of small stuff mm
- 5:28Speaker 2: for those things could be easily disposed of.
- 5:30Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Oh, by the way, Red, what about Less? I think
- 5:34Speaker 2: you can drive tonight? Your less is okay? Mister Black?
- 5:37Speaker 6: Oh is that the driver who was sick last night?
- 5:40Speaker 2: He was drunk? Send me back to Kiddery's boarding house
- 5:43Speaker 2: to sleep it off. The he's Red take over the
- 5:45Speaker 2: run ball, look for Less wasn't drunk. I told you
- 5:48Speaker 2: that last night. I still liquorny ball. Right, so we
- 5:51Speaker 2: had a drink maybe too. But he never done it before,
- 5:53Speaker 2: did he? No, you better not do it again. It
- 5:56Speaker 2: happened in for you. I'd have fired him on the spot. Well,
- 5:58Speaker 2: mister Barton, I let you know it's in the I've
- 6:00Speaker 2: got anything good and don't make it any later than
- 6:03Speaker 2: the day after tomorrow.
- 6:13Speaker 8: My brother's side in the carnex that truck stocking the driveway.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I know we can't get out until someone moved it. Well,
- 6:18Speaker 2: maybe half an hour or try the other day, okay,
- 6:21Speaker 2: but I know that it goes around the building. I
- 6:23Speaker 2: want to come out on the out of the side. Ally,
- 6:25Speaker 2: this is a big old place I used to be
- 6:28Speaker 2: a brewer in the old days. Makes an idea? Where
- 6:30Speaker 2: house the truck are at?
- 6:31Speaker 8: I hope this drive doesn't come to a dead end
- 6:33Speaker 8: in the back of the building.
- 6:34Speaker 2: All as good as I make this turn, okay, d
- 6:38Speaker 2: broad go it right on out THEO. No, but what's
- 6:45Speaker 2: the big idea? You're shooting?
- 6:47Speaker 3: Oh a big game hotly.
- 6:50Speaker 6: E street and swirming with great come on of the
- 6:53Speaker 6: big grains from the old parts of the buildings. It's
- 6:55Speaker 6: hard to do us no more.
- 6:57Speaker 2: And you shoot him as they come out. That's the idea.
- 6:59Speaker 2: You bet you.
- 7:00Speaker 6: Mister Barton pays me Diamond Beach for sometimes you get
- 7:03Speaker 6: ten or twelve one afternoon.
- 7:05Speaker 7: How much does mister Barton pay for innocent fine standard?
- 7:10Speaker 3: I'm real sorry if I scared you, man, but oh,
- 7:13Speaker 3: maybe a better introduce Michelle.
- 7:15Speaker 2: But I am a miss Killery.
- 7:16Speaker 6: I'm kind of cant take around here.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Kittery and a connection with Keery's boarding house. You bet
- 7:22Speaker 2: you my daughter Lord Ranges, and I bet you know
- 7:24Speaker 2: let's gone. I want to mister Barton's driver.
- 7:26Speaker 5: You bet you rooms with us.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Lucky LETTI. He wasn't making his regular run last night,
- 7:32Speaker 2: wasn't it? I suppose you heard that his truck was
- 7:34Speaker 2: high decked. Yeah, you bet your funny thing too.
- 7:37Speaker 6: Leach must have had any feeling something was goodns happened
- 7:40Speaker 6: on that run.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Why do you say that he was nervous and was
- 7:44Speaker 2: jumping all day long? Oh you see he was dreams
- 7:48Speaker 2: riding something. Yeah, yeah, he even started to drink in
- 7:51Speaker 2: the middle of the afternoon. This never done that since you.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Know him, that's oh yeah, you bet you acted like
- 7:58Speaker 3: he had to work at these go to work because
- 8:02Speaker 3: he got you drunk and the boat wouldn't let him drive.
- 8:05Speaker 2: So he stayed home safe something. Yeah, not sho.
- 8:08Speaker 6: She we're right back to the saloon and started slugging
- 8:12Speaker 6: him down again. Then all of a suddenly he jumped
- 8:14Speaker 6: in his car and lit out lat out for where
- 8:18Speaker 6: no telling, didn't.
- 8:19Speaker 5: Get back to those daylight And what's that car?
- 8:22Speaker 2: A mesh? Let's give me a dollar to wash it
- 8:25Speaker 2: off for him today?
- 8:26Speaker 6: Done this red clay?
- 8:28Speaker 7: You ever? Did? She?
- 8:30Speaker 2: Don't you bet your.
- 8:31Speaker 6: Like you never got it off?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Hit that road last night? Yes, that's I know. It's
- 8:35Speaker 2: a man's get away. Where is your daughter's boarding house?
- 8:39Speaker 6: When you get out of the streets, you just don't
- 8:41Speaker 6: driving in she bout a half mile street, Gage and
- 8:44Speaker 6: your left can't shine this shine.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Out in front? Why because if any of that red
- 8:49Speaker 2: Clay is still stuck under the fenders, I less his car.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I want to compare it to some I took off
- 8:52Speaker 2: a truck. He's likely to be a shame. Maybe not,
- 8:55Speaker 2: But if they are, let's gone, everyone's going to have
- 8:57Speaker 2: to do some pretty heavy explaining. I'll touch you him
- 9:12Speaker 2: afraid it's true.
- 9:13Speaker 8: Finish your analysis, nak.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah, Clay from the hijack trust and that's from Less.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Garner's car had exactly the same chemical composition.
- 9:20Speaker 8: Then they must have come to the same place, no
- 9:22Speaker 8: question about it. But if Lace was in on the
- 9:24Speaker 8: hold as me, do you think he's fake being drunk
- 9:26Speaker 8: in order to get out of driving.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Look passy the poet Less was approached by the hijackers
- 9:30Speaker 2: and agreed to let them know when he be carrying
- 9:31Speaker 2: a valuable load. Well, it might have arranged the fake holder.
- 9:35Speaker 8: Yes, that could account for his nervousness that day.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Right, And when Barkin refused to let him drive, Less
- 9:41Speaker 2: would have had to get in touch with the mob
- 9:42Speaker 2: then one of them that somebody else would be driving.
- 9:44Speaker 8: And that might be how he got to play on
- 9:45Speaker 8: his car, of.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Course, if we don't have any actual proof.
- 9:49Speaker 8: Oh this minute, Nick chargers have a staty Bonne speaking.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I want to talk to car. I want to write there. Oh, yes,
- 9:57Speaker 2: you better take a baron. I want to hello. Think
- 10:01Speaker 2: I have some news for you. Oh you do well,
- 10:03Speaker 2: I've got some news for you. Another one of my
- 10:05Speaker 2: tructures in hijacks.
- 10:06Speaker 7: Another one?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, who was driving it? Let's Garner? Yes, how did
- 10:10Speaker 2: you go? I'll tell you later. I don't let Garna
- 10:12Speaker 2: get away. Don't worry. He won't get away good. The
- 10:15Speaker 2: hijackers put a bullet through his head, so left Garner.
- 10:24Speaker 2: The man Nick counted on to lead him to the
- 10:25Speaker 2: hijackers has been killed. We'll see what happens in.
- 10:28Speaker 6: Just the moment.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Now back to the case of the martyred rat. Today's
- 10:37Speaker 2: adventure with Nick Carter brought to you by new post
- 10:40Speaker 2: war old Dutch cleanser. It's now three o'clock in the morning.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Nick and Patsy have driven out to the scene of
- 10:45Speaker 2: the hold up with mister Barton. State. Please are detouring
- 10:48Speaker 2: traffic around the big truck still park beside the highway.
- 10:51Speaker 2: The body of left, Garner slumped over the wheel. The
- 10:55Speaker 2: angle of the wound pat Kid looked as though whoever
- 10:56Speaker 2: killed Garner stood here on the running board. Yes, you
- 10:58Speaker 2: must have happened without any otherwise, this wouldn't have just
- 11:01Speaker 2: sat there behind the wheel. You're right, wasn't any fight
- 11:05Speaker 2: playing cold blood and murder.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Then you'll be taking another big loan poon, mister Barton.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Oh, I won't lose anything all my truck start fully
- 11:12Speaker 2: and short against robbery. This cargo wasn't worth much anyway,
- 11:15Speaker 2: Oh it wasn't now now the whole shipment consisted of
- 11:18Speaker 2: the kit kitchen where toys, rat poison, cheap lamp, shaded
- 11:22Speaker 2: dried fish, something verble. Well. I hope the hijackers were
- 11:25Speaker 2: plenty disappointed. They weren't, though they went to the trouble
- 11:28Speaker 2: of unloading this stuff even after they had saw.
- 11:29Speaker 7: What it was.
- 11:30Speaker 8: They must have been pretty dangerous too, right on a
- 11:32Speaker 8: Disney highway like this.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Maybe they took the truck offer on the side road
- 11:36Speaker 2: to unload it and then brought it by kid. No mit,
- 11:38Speaker 2: the bartom life was killed here. The blood stan showed
- 11:40Speaker 2: that his body hasn't been moved from behind the wheel.
- 11:42Speaker 2: If you're all through, mist Kuda, we'd like to take
- 11:44Speaker 2: the body into town. Okay, officer, thanks for your help.
- 11:46Speaker 2: That's no, we're here for miscarda. Okay, Doc, you can
- 11:49Speaker 2: take over now by the way. At Yeah, exactly what
- 11:52Speaker 2: time was the body found?
- 11:53Speaker 7: Uh?
- 11:53Speaker 2: Let me see you got it down here.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Twelve forty five, twelve forty five, but you didn't notice
- 11:59Speaker 6: I mister Barton until after one thirty.
- 12:01Speaker 3: It wasn't rful, lady.
- 12:03Speaker 2: We tried to phone him, but there wasn't any answers.
- 12:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Well, I my Peanuckle club met last night and I
- 12:09Speaker 2: didn't get home. So after one Peanut thought the club, Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 2: come on, come on, let's get back to the car.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Oh that's a good idea. And I'm getting how long
- 12:17Speaker 2: would it take to move the sort of load you
- 12:19Speaker 2: had on this truck from one truck to another? At
- 12:21Speaker 2: least half an hour? Why I'm trying to figure out
- 12:23Speaker 2: what happened. Well, it's plain enough they made a big
- 12:26Speaker 2: hole the first time, so they tried it again and
- 12:28Speaker 2: then no, no, no, no, hijackers don't rob just any truck.
- 12:31Speaker 2: They always have information about which trucks they're carrying. Valuable
- 12:33Speaker 2: car goos this truck didn't have a valuable cargo, which
- 12:36Speaker 2: proves mister Carter is wrong for the second time tonight,
- 12:39Speaker 2: young lady. The second time, didn't you say that lest
- 12:41Speaker 2: Connor was mich enough for the hijackers? I did well.
- 12:43Speaker 2: The fact that they had to kill him to get
- 12:45Speaker 2: the cargo prous You were wrong there too, Oh, mister Barkler.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Hijackers didn't care less in order to get that worthless cargo.
- 12:50Speaker 2: They thole the cargo in order to cover up his murder.
- 12:52Speaker 3: You mean the less originally couldn't talk about the first
- 12:55Speaker 3: rob xactly truck would hijack to make it look like
- 12:57Speaker 3: another holder?
- 12:58Speaker 2: Oh you're great. Who knew what was on that first
- 13:00Speaker 2: truck and what Rudor was going to take? Let's do
- 13:03Speaker 2: and let a superintendent do even before he took over
- 13:05Speaker 2: a driver? What's that's all? What didn't anyone else know?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Absolutely not, not even you? Yes, yes, of course I do.
- 13:13Speaker 2: When we got back to town. Remind me to call
- 13:15Speaker 2: the newspapers, called the newspapers, because you can locate all
- 13:19Speaker 2: sorts of things to a newspaper. App Maybe if we advertise,
- 13:23Speaker 2: we can locate a murderer. Hey, Mabel, listen, to this
- 13:33Speaker 2: in the personal columns. Wanted the contact motorists who were
- 13:37Speaker 2: driving west from Divers Springs Friday night between eleven thirty
- 13:41Speaker 2: pm and one o'clock called, sorry, nine oh five, we
- 13:46Speaker 2: were on that road about the Yeah, let me write
- 13:48Speaker 2: that number down. Maybe I can help this guy out.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Deaths happened. I'm trying to get information about a trailer
- 14:02Speaker 2: truck that was parked just beyond the top of a
- 14:04Speaker 2: long hill ten miles west of Dever Springs Friday night,
- 14:07Speaker 2: Barton motor freight truck. Yes, did you see, I'll say
- 14:10Speaker 2: I did. I got stuck behind it at the bottom
- 14:12Speaker 2: of the hill and I had to go all the way.
- 14:13Speaker 7: Up and low.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And that's why I remember the name. Do you remember
- 14:17Speaker 2: what time that rose was to Handen?
- 14:19Speaker 5: Yes?
- 14:19Speaker 7: It.
- 14:19Speaker 2: As a matter of fact, I had the car radio
- 14:21Speaker 2: on waiting for the twelve thirty news. It started just
- 14:24Speaker 2: as I went around him at the top of the hill.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Was there another truck on the hill at the same time?
- 14:28Speaker 2: You no, just one other passenger car and me. We
- 14:31Speaker 2: were both stuck behind the truck. You said there was
- 14:34Speaker 2: another passenger car. Yeah, And you know there was something
- 14:36Speaker 2: funny about that too. What was that well. I stopped
- 14:39Speaker 2: about a mile farther on be course. I thought I
- 14:41Speaker 2: had a flat. But neither the truck nor the other
- 14:43Speaker 2: car ever did pass me.
- 14:45Speaker 8: Well, neither the car turned off on the side row there.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Alarming any on that stretch. What thought of a car
- 14:50Speaker 2: was it?
- 14:50Speaker 7: You know?
- 14:50Speaker 3: Nah?
- 14:51Speaker 5: It was behind me.
- 14:52Speaker 2: All I could see was the headlights. And afterwards Mabel
- 14:55Speaker 2: and I wondered what.
- 14:56Speaker 7: Happened to it.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I think I know what happened to it, mister Hammon,
- 14:59Speaker 2: in fact of what you told me, I think I
- 15:00Speaker 2: know the answer to a lot of things.
- 15:10Speaker 7: Oh.
- 15:11Speaker 8: What's the idea of exploring the place in this old warehouse?
- 15:14Speaker 2: Oh? I thought it might be interesting to see what's
- 15:16Speaker 2: down here at the unute part of it.
- 15:17Speaker 8: Oh, but it's like a dungeon down here.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I can take something right across my foot, probably a rat,
- 15:24Speaker 2: a rat. Oh, dear, I thought we'd run it this unrest.
- 15:27Speaker 2: That's why I wanted you to wear slacks, and you
- 15:28Speaker 2: have you walking in the Oh, but honestly, this part
- 15:31Speaker 2: of the building is alive with them. Here, let's see
- 15:34Speaker 2: what's on the other side of this door.
- 15:37Speaker 8: You seem to know exactly where you're going took.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Right through the flash light. See those marks in the dusk.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, well I'm following you. If you asked, mister Broughton,
- 15:46Speaker 2: you probably would have sent somebody along to to clear
- 15:48Speaker 2: the rafts out of the way. I didn't want to
- 15:50Speaker 2: Barking or everybody else to know. We'd be snooping around
- 15:52Speaker 2: this part of the building.
- 15:53Speaker 3: And oh, here's another door.
- 15:55Speaker 2: We go through that too. Mm hm, I musty in here.
- 16:01Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It must have been used for storage rooms in the
- 16:04Speaker 2: place with a brewery. Oh, Nick, it's another rat.
- 16:08Speaker 7: Patsy.
- 16:08Speaker 2: You insisted on coming alone, But.
- 16:11Speaker 6: Hey, I still use.
- 16:14Speaker 2: This room for storage.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Just full of box of them crank.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see what they are.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Cloud Bell's kitchen wear, ride herrings.
- 16:24Speaker 2: A flame shape. That's the cargo that was supposed to
- 16:27Speaker 2: have been stuwn unless garn a truck and it wasn't
- 16:29Speaker 2: so at all. Say that again. Oh, my truck was
- 16:31Speaker 2: downloaded before I never left the warehouse. Good Trinity.
- 16:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I always see a pocket act. You couldn't draw
- 16:40Speaker 4: up very fast wearing the heavy glove.
- 16:42Speaker 2: My gunn is dame that you're right now. I wore
- 16:44Speaker 2: these gloves for protection against four footed rats. Read can
- 16:47Speaker 2: you you hijacked your own truck, Yes, then murdered his
- 16:50Speaker 2: own partner. That's shirt wasn't my partner. I gave Less
- 16:54Speaker 2: a chance to get in on the deal. But he
- 16:56Speaker 2: was a nice little boy that didn't believe in taking
- 16:58Speaker 2: things that didn't belong to them. You were saying that
- 16:59Speaker 2: Less it wasn't next up in that pert robbery.
- 17:01Speaker 5: It would have been a part.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And let him drive that night, but he didn't really
- 17:05Speaker 2: want to be part of it. That's why he started breaking.
- 17:07Speaker 3: But he was there that night the red play on
- 17:08Speaker 3: his car prood.
- 17:09Speaker 2: He was there trying to stalk me out of it.
- 17:14Speaker 5: He said he was a peelings and my gut a nation.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Now that's how you got shot. There was a fight.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Now, I just left the jerk and sent him back
- 17:20Speaker 5: to his corn.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Then who shot you?
- 17:22Speaker 4: I put that bullet hole in my arm myself just tonight.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Thow hold up looked like a McCaulay for thirty thousand
- 17:28Speaker 4: dollars cago it was worth.
- 17:29Speaker 8: And then when you learned that Nick was suspicious of rest,
- 17:32Speaker 8: you chilled him.
- 17:32Speaker 3: That's right.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Jolley's fish would have built everything if he'd been pinked.
- 17:36Speaker 2: So I downloaded his truck, told him the schedule had
- 17:38Speaker 2: been changed and that he was to take up a
- 17:40Speaker 2: load in Pittsburgh.
- 17:41Speaker 4: And when he left, I followed his truck, flagged it
- 17:43Speaker 4: down and got rid of him.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Beach weeds are getting rid of us, Red. No, No,
- 17:48Speaker 2: anybody hears shots coming from this part of the building.
- 17:50Speaker 2: You shouldn't. He could shoot off a cannon down here
- 17:53Speaker 2: without nobody hearing it outside. No, No, I got a
- 17:57Speaker 2: better idea.
- 17:58Speaker 7: Yeah, what is it?
- 18:00Speaker 4: You're going to get locked pins down here like action? No,
- 18:03Speaker 4: wait a minute, read Sorry cod Hey, they'll come back
- 18:05Speaker 4: and see you again in a couple of years.
- 18:12Speaker 2: What are we going to get away from the door?
- 18:14Speaker 2: I want to cry him.
- 18:15Speaker 1: We can't.
- 18:19Speaker 7: It work than you.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Well, let's don't mean a thing against the door like that.
- 18:23Speaker 2: But nobody knows he's here.
- 18:24Speaker 8: Nobody will come loving for it. We've got to break
- 18:27Speaker 8: out of here somehow.
- 18:28Speaker 7: We can't break out, baby.
- 18:29Speaker 2: If we yell out enough, somebody will hear. Usually, these
- 18:31Speaker 2: walls are over a footstick. No one can possibly hear us,
- 18:34Speaker 2: No one.
- 18:35Speaker 8: Can possibly.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Nick think it's like bringing it. Tom s.
- 18:43Speaker 8: A eyes.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Locked in the Progostien basement room of the old brewery,
- 18:53Speaker 2: unable to break out or make themselves heard. Nick and
- 18:55Speaker 2: patsy our face, but almost certain deaths. We'll see what
- 18:59Speaker 2: happens in just the mom Now for the conclusion of
- 19:07Speaker 2: the case of the Markered Rat, Today's adventure with Lick Carter,
- 19:10Speaker 2: brought to you by a new post war old Dutch cleanser,
- 19:14Speaker 2: Red Kennedy, has left Nick and Petsy to die locked
- 19:17Speaker 2: in a small windowless basement room deep inside the old
- 19:20Speaker 2: Roaring Now Nick examined the door with his flashlight. Okay,
- 19:24Speaker 2: can you do anything with a lost Nick?
- 19:27Speaker 7: Me lock on this night?
- 19:27Speaker 2: Not even a keel? That's all on the other side.
- 19:30Speaker 8: Somebody you would come here?
- 19:34Speaker 2: Another rat? They're all over Hey, rats, rats. Those rats
- 19:41Speaker 2: must come from somewhere, and these are brick walls. It
- 19:43Speaker 2: has to be a let me see, yeah, there it
- 19:47Speaker 2: is a grand pipe. Here, hold the flashlight.
- 19:51Speaker 8: When I moved some of these box cause you got
- 19:53Speaker 8: an idea how we can get said.
- 19:54Speaker 2: This included a ship with the rat.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Let's shine a light on this box.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Sure sal rat poison. They die outside outside, Patty, and
- 20:03Speaker 2: the rat can get outside through the drain pipes. Oh,
- 20:05Speaker 2: but what good of that? You was But when I
- 20:07Speaker 2: was a kid, I used to make rabbit traps out
- 20:08Speaker 2: of a box. That's taking a piece of string, But
- 20:10Speaker 2: you promped the box up with a sting and tie
- 20:12Speaker 2: the string to it. Then when the rabbit goes under
- 20:14Speaker 2: the box after the base, you'll pull the string and
- 20:15Speaker 2: the box falls down on top of it.
- 20:17Speaker 5: I still don't see.
- 20:18Speaker 2: If we can get some of these rats into a trap,
- 20:20Speaker 2: maybe they'll get us out of the trap we're in.
- 20:22Speaker 7: Oh, Nick, what time four o'clock in the afternoon? The
- 20:36Speaker 7: in here twenty three hours? Hi?
- 20:40Speaker 8: I guess it is more hid it raid not? It
- 20:44Speaker 8: was such a nice game too. Time messages the legs
- 20:47Speaker 8: of those rats. Then living them eat the rat poison
- 20:51Speaker 8: into the drain pipe going it.
- 20:54Speaker 2: One or two of them must have got to the
- 20:56Speaker 2: box is containing a poison. Said they always gone into
- 20:58Speaker 2: the open air to die.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Well, maybe they died nobody found.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Maybe listen, partner, I'd tell you Connor.
- 21:24Speaker 2: When old English Kitty brought me that dead rat with
- 21:26Speaker 2: a message tied to its lady, I thought he was crazy.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I don't blame you, mister Barton. I gamble on the
- 21:32Speaker 2: chance that Kerry has either shoot or find one that
- 21:34Speaker 2: had a message tied to it. Well, it turned out
- 21:35Speaker 2: to be a good gamble. But why did you think
- 21:38Speaker 2: you would find the stolen cargo what you did? Because
- 21:40Speaker 2: garner truck was seen climbing the hill at twelve thirty,
- 21:42Speaker 2: just fifteen minutes before his body was found.
- 21:44Speaker 5: And you tell us who had taken me thirty minutes
- 21:46Speaker 5: to unload the truck.
- 21:47Speaker 2: That's why I figured that truck must have been empty
- 21:48Speaker 2: when it left the warehouse. I see then, when I
- 21:50Speaker 2: heard about the car that followed Garner up the hill,
- 21:52Speaker 2: but no farther, I was pretty sure the driver of
- 21:54Speaker 2: it was the one who killed Conner. Why well, there
- 21:57Speaker 2: was nothing wrong with the truck, which meant that Gonner
- 21:59Speaker 2: wouldn't have stopped with being flagged up and by somebody
- 22:01Speaker 2: he knew, Yeah, you're right there. He wouldn't have stoped
- 22:04Speaker 2: a stranger. It also had to be somebody who worked here,
- 22:06Speaker 2: mister Barkin. Sure, otherwise the driver of that car wouldn't
- 22:09Speaker 2: have known the route and it wouldn't have had a
- 22:10Speaker 2: chance to unload the truck before it pulled out of here.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Well it could have been me, of course, I don't
- 22:14Speaker 2: think I didn't think of you. Oh you ridded you.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Of course I did, but I checked your alibi and
- 22:19Speaker 6: you didn't do very well in that keenoffl game, did
- 22:22Speaker 6: mister Bart.
- 22:24Speaker 7: That's why you didn't care to talk about it.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Well, Allay Rads confessed that the first car, well, the
- 22:29Speaker 2: one of us hijacked when he was driving, was getting
- 22:31Speaker 2: in an old barn nearby. You better stand out a
- 22:33Speaker 2: truck boy. I'll do that right away. Connor, I got
- 22:35Speaker 2: to give you credit.
- 22:37Speaker 7: You did a fine job.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Thanks is just one thing. Yeah, what's that?
- 22:42Speaker 3: Well?
- 22:43Speaker 8: I still load the rest, but I feel kind of
- 22:46Speaker 8: sorry for the one that's got on a message through
- 22:49Speaker 8: We foightened.
- 22:49Speaker 7: Him and then he saved our lives.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Well, he was a part and a good cause was born.
- 22:56Speaker 7: Will you bury him with honor? Yes?
- 23:00Speaker 2: Every year and this day you can put a piece
- 23:02Speaker 2: of cheese on his grip. And now the winners of
- 23:15Speaker 2: the four nineteen forty eight Super DeLux forty eight four
- 23:19Speaker 2: door sedans in the fourth New Post War Old Touch
- 23:22Speaker 2: Clincy Jingle Contest with pos my twentieth next you mind
- 23:28Speaker 2: if I make the awards this week? Sorry, Mike, but
- 23:31Speaker 2: it's been just too much fun giving away for it. Okay,
- 23:34Speaker 2: go to it, try and stop me. Well, folks, here
- 23:36Speaker 2: are the lucky people who get brand new Forge this week.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Missus Bruce Gordon box stick three picks, Hamilton, New York
- 23:44Speaker 2: and Hall five to five O oh North Newland Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.

- 24:06Speaker 2: all these fortunate folks said, well as to all the
- 24:08Speaker 2: other contest winners, let me say congratulation. And remember we'll
- 24:12Speaker 2: announce winners of the last week's contest as soon as possible,
- 24:15Speaker 2: so be sure to keep listening. And Nick, that reminds me,
- 24:18Speaker 2: what are you having store for us next week? Something
- 24:20Speaker 2: really exciting, Mike. See, it all started when an East
- 24:23Speaker 2: Indian maharaja lost a one hundred carrot diamond. Oh no,
- 24:26Speaker 2: it really started when the movie produces on and disappears.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Maybe so pantcy, but because of the diamond that we
- 24:32Speaker 2: found a dead body three thousand miles from where it
- 24:34Speaker 2: should have been. Hey, take it easy, this is getting
- 24:36Speaker 2: too rich for my blood. What do you call this story? Nick,
- 24:38Speaker 2: I call it the Case of the Star of Evil.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Nick Carter Master Detective is presented each week at this
- 24:51Speaker 2: time by the Cutter Heat Typing Company. It is produced
- 24:54Speaker 2: and directed by Jock McGregor and is copyrighted by Spretan
- 24:57Speaker 2: Smith's Publications Incorporated. Charlotte Manson is his feature is Patsy.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Today's script was written by Jim Parsons. Original music is
- 25:04Speaker 2: played by Henry Silvern. This program is fictional and any
- 25:07Speaker 2: resemblance to actual persons living or dead is purely coincidental.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Because of the state of our schools.
- 25:13Speaker 2: The future of twenty eight million American children is in peril.
- 25:17Speaker 3: This means we must all work to.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Improve educational conditions, because the future of these children and
- 25:22Speaker 2: their teachers is the future of America. This is Michael
- 25:26Speaker 2: Fitzmorris saying, when minutes count, use new post war old
- 25:30Speaker 2: Dutch plensor. This is the mutual broadcasting system.
- 25:40Speaker 1: This is Andrew J. Graham, author of the web surface
- 25:43Speaker 1: series Oh and a Man of His Wife.
- 25:45Speaker 3: You're listening to the great Detectives of Old Time Radio.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Welcome back. I will say no rats were actually harmed
- 25:59Speaker 1: in the Mad King of This radio program. A Nick's
- 26:02Speaker 1: Plan definitely had some flaws, and the chief of which
- 26:07Speaker 1: is that they ended up trapped without food or water
- 26:12Speaker 1: for nearly a day because they didn't think to bring
- 26:15Speaker 1: any back up or tell anybody. They wouldn't have to
- 26:18Speaker 1: tell anybody that they were suspicious about being involved in
- 26:23Speaker 1: the thefts. But you know, you have Scubby and Waldo
- 26:28Speaker 1: and Maddie all trusted aids and colleagues. Oh, Nick didn't
- 26:33Speaker 1: bother it at all. I did actually find the solution
- 26:36Speaker 1: a little bit surprising, just because I had really thought
- 26:41Speaker 1: in the way that the show seemed to be going,
- 26:43Speaker 1: it looked like the owner was the one who was responsible.
- 26:50Speaker 1: But that was just a nice bit of misdirection on
- 26:52Speaker 1: their parts. So nicely do all right, Well, onto some
- 26:56Speaker 1: listener comments and feedback. Mike's says, I've always root for Waldo.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I really like Nick Carter all around though. In this
- 27:06Speaker 1: day of increasingly morally ambiguous heroes, Carter is a refreshing change,
- 27:12Speaker 1: and Michelle says love Nick Carter, well, thanks so much.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And I also do have a message regarding some potential
- 27:19Speaker 1: or some series we're going to get to eventually, I
- 27:22Speaker 1: should say, And Wayne says, I like your choices. I
- 27:27Speaker 1: really like Mystery as my hobby. It didn't take itself
- 27:31Speaker 1: too seriously. The cases are fun and the interactions between
- 27:34Speaker 1: the leads are nice examples of poking fun in each
- 27:37Speaker 1: other and mutual respect. What we definitely have Mystery is
- 27:42Speaker 1: my hobby on the list, and we're going to get
- 27:44Speaker 1: to it after we do Boston Blackie. However, Boston Blackie,
- 27:48Speaker 1: that one's gonna take quite a while to get through,
- 27:51Speaker 1: about four years. And then we have a comment regarding
- 27:55Speaker 1: Michael Shane. I like the Michael Shane episodes with Wally
- 28:00Speaker 1: over Jeff Chandler. The relationship between Mike and Phillis are delightful.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I feel that once Chandler took over, it was almost
- 28:07Speaker 1: like listening to an episode of Philip Marlowe. Why and
- 28:13Speaker 1: an answer to that, it's important to note that, and
- 28:16Speaker 1: we're going to be getting into Michael Shane in just
- 28:18Speaker 1: a couple three months now that it wasn't as if
- 28:22Speaker 1: the production office decided to make a change and lead.
- 28:25Speaker 1: These are actually two different shows. Michael Shane that Wally
- 28:31Speaker 1: Mayer start in was a show that aired over the
- 28:33Speaker 1: Mutual Network, whereas the Michael Shane that Jeff Chandler start
- 28:38Speaker 1: in was a syndicated program, so there are two different programs.
- 28:45Speaker 1: I actually think that Shane is a bit more hard
- 28:51Speaker 1: boiled than than Philip Marlowe, but we'll get to that
- 28:57Speaker 1: when we get to Michael Shane. As I said in
- 28:59Speaker 1: just a few months, I asked, why wasn't the series
- 29:03Speaker 1: set in Miami instead of San Francisco or New Orleans.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Shane was actually based in Miami in the books, And
- 29:14Speaker 1: the answer to that is that the Shane there was
- 29:18Speaker 1: a sense over radio that certain cities were mysterious cities.
- 29:24Speaker 1: They were good cities to have a mystery mystery series
- 29:27Speaker 1: sent in New York, Los Angele, Los Angeles, San Francisco.
- 29:34Speaker 1: And even though Michael Shane was the only one to
- 29:38Speaker 1: do it in New Orleans, there were so many series
- 29:43Speaker 1: that had one shown episodes in New Orleans. It was
- 29:48Speaker 1: viewed as a as a city of mystery, and so
- 29:53Speaker 1: it just made sense for them to do it in
- 29:55Speaker 1: New Orleans. It just had to do with the city's
- 29:58Speaker 1: reputation not quite being in the nineteen forties the type
- 30:06Speaker 1: of series where mystery series would be seen as successful.
- 30:10Speaker 1: He also mentions murder by experts in Murder Clinic, we
- 30:13Speaker 1: have done episodes of Murder Clinic and we'll continue to
- 30:17Speaker 1: do them, and also have a couple episodes of Murder
- 30:23Speaker 1: by Experts that we're looking at, but those are anthology
- 30:27Speaker 1: series and we generally don't go straight through them. We'll
- 30:32Speaker 1: dole them out a bit when we do our listener
- 30:34Speaker 1: support specials. So thanks so much for the email, Wayne,
- 30:39Speaker 1: that will actually do it for today. We'll be back
- 30:43Speaker 1: tomorrow with yours truly, Johnny Jowler, and then join us
- 30:49Speaker 1: next Thursday for another episode of Nick Carter. In the meantime,
