- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Patriots Unfiltered, the world's original podcast. Paul thinks
- 0:18Speaker 1: that they may have scripted it a little bit to
- 0:20Speaker 1: make the offense feel good about themselves. That I like
- 0:24Speaker 1: that interesting. I think I didn't say just looking and
- 0:27Speaker 1: looking and waiting and waiting tucks the ball runs around.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I think it was there. Yeah, I said, trust what
- 0:32Speaker 1: you said. It's easy for me to say from the
- 0:34Speaker 1: red level, right, you know mine. I love the banter
- 0:40Speaker 1: and find Paul to be the wittiest of you all. Oh,
- 0:43Speaker 1: thanks a lot. Hester wrong must be from mains as
- 0:47Speaker 1: a life along. What about little Jordan Humphrey's little one
- 0:52Speaker 1: of those teams is going to finish in fourth in
- 0:54Speaker 1: the AFC West? Yeah, and be like, what what happened?
- 0:56Speaker 1: For some kind of analysis you only get from Michael Shot?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Are you going to continue the camp casts? Like? No, No,
- 1:04Speaker 1: we decided to shoot. We're gonna only only half a camp.
- 1:07Speaker 1: We're gonna do white. Paul gets very defensive when anyone
- 1:09Speaker 1: asked him, are you gonna be doing any work. It's
- 1:12Speaker 1: very defensive. Well, James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan
- 1:16Speaker 1: in the world, says Jesus, couldn't you have replaced Eric
- 1:18Speaker 1: with even years ago? This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:27Speaker 1: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It seems like forever
- 1:31Speaker 1: in a day that we've had a normal show. I
- 1:33Speaker 1: had a normal time. Right, it's been a minute, as
- 1:35Speaker 1: I could say, it's deuced. It's Tamara, right, Matt, it's Paul,
- 1:39Speaker 1: it's me. It's Matt in the booth, and we'll be
- 1:41Speaker 1: here for the next two hours talking Patriots, summing up
- 1:45Speaker 1: the joint practices with the Panthers, getting ready for the
- 1:48Speaker 1: preseason game tomorrow night. Got a lot to talk about.
- 1:52Speaker 1: We do catch up. It is strange that we don't
- 1:55Speaker 1: have like it's been a while. Yeah, I've had a
- 1:58Speaker 1: regular just hanging out twelve o'clock to our regular show.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It's like last Tuesday. Maybe that's early, but anyway. Um,
- 2:07Speaker 1: So we just get done with two joint practices with
- 2:10Speaker 1: the Carolina Panthers. I'd say that they were eventful. Um,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I think you know, we might have learned a little bit.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Um and um, I think you know we're ready. I'm
- 2:23Speaker 1: ready for the season. Let's go. Yeah, but I've seen enough.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I've seen enough totally with friend, let's just go, let's go,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I know. And it's as as you kind of looked
- 2:37Speaker 1: forward to the preseason game tomorrow night, it's like, oh,
- 2:39Speaker 1: what do you want to see? When I'm kind of
- 2:40Speaker 1: with you, it's like, no matter what you see tomorrow,
- 2:43Speaker 1: how much truth are you really gonna learn? I mean,
- 2:44Speaker 1: there certainly might be some players who pop, and that'll
- 2:46Speaker 1: be great, but it's hard to carry anything over that
- 2:49Speaker 1: you're realpecially after listening to Matt Roll a little bit yesterday,
- 2:52Speaker 1: it's gonna be all back up for say, it's already
- 2:56Speaker 1: come out and said, we're not playing our start. Yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 1: So it's either gonna be yeah, well they did it,
- 3:00Speaker 1: but they did it against the backups, or oh they
- 3:02Speaker 1: couldn't even do it against the backups. Those are the
- 3:04Speaker 1: time I don't really even care if he does it
- 3:06Speaker 1: against the starters. It's preseason, it doesn't you know, Like
- 3:09Speaker 1: I listened to Bill Belichick completely tell me how useless
- 3:12Speaker 1: it was the week before. Now, if the Patriots starters
- 3:14Speaker 1: play and they play well, I'm supposed to say, oh,
- 3:16Speaker 1: but but this, but but this, this means something. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 1: it's uh. I mean, I think it's more about the
- 3:21Speaker 1: individual players and some of the young guys, and I
- 3:23Speaker 1: think some of the bubble positions, you know, with the
- 3:25Speaker 1: tackle injuries and the cornerback injuries, it's put a little
- 3:28Speaker 1: bit of the spotlight I think on on some of
- 3:29Speaker 1: those lower guys down the depth chart that that maybe
- 3:31Speaker 1: have some opportunities Tomorrow. Yeah, we'll talk about that. Um
- 3:35Speaker 1: Juwan Williams and Malcolm Butler on IR. So is this
- 3:39Speaker 1: I R could return I R Or is this I
- 3:42Speaker 1: R I R I R done? So when you m
- 3:44Speaker 1: in order to return after being placed on IR, you
- 3:47Speaker 1: need to be on the act of fifty three man
- 3:50Speaker 1: roster to open the season. Okay, so this they're out,
- 3:52Speaker 1: they're done. I mean that to me, you can make
- 3:55Speaker 1: like injuries settlements with guys and behind you know, back
- 3:58Speaker 1: to you know whatever, you know. Words. If they took
- 4:01Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler and they said, well, we think you're gonna
- 4:04Speaker 1: be out six or eight weeks, so we're gonna make
- 4:06Speaker 1: a we'll make an injury settlement with you, will pay
- 4:09Speaker 1: you X amount and then you can you know, maybe
- 4:12Speaker 1: be back after a certain amount of time. I don't
- 4:15Speaker 1: think that's going to happen. I'm just saying, right, I
- 4:18Speaker 1: just don't want a situation where one of these guys
- 4:20Speaker 1: returns to play. You said he was out for the seat. Well, yeah,
- 4:24Speaker 1: he's out for the year for all intents and purposes.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It's like the salary cap. If you really want to
- 4:28Speaker 1: make it work, you could probably find a way. But
- 4:30Speaker 1: you know, like some you know, people have asked, you know,
- 4:32Speaker 1: what's going to be the cornerback, you know, depth chart,
- 4:35Speaker 1: what's this going to look like? And I think these
- 4:38Speaker 1: two guys were on the bubble yea. Anyway, I think
- 4:41Speaker 1: I think this kind of answer, you know, makes a
- 4:44Speaker 1: decision for Bill Belichick. You didn't have to make one, now, Yeah,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I think just the hard thing is that with two
- 4:49Speaker 1: preseason games to go, usually those depth guys play a lot,
- 4:51Speaker 1: and you don't want to run Jonathan Jones as a
- 4:54Speaker 1: starter into the ground or you know, Jaylen Mills for
- 4:56Speaker 1: that matter. So it'd probably mean more opportunities for Jack Jones,
- 5:01Speaker 1: Sean Wade certainly, and Devin Hafford that they brought back.
- 5:03Speaker 1: We'll see, you know, maybe what he has a little bit,
- 5:05Speaker 1: so just extend an opportunity. Sameing for the tackle group
- 5:07Speaker 1: where you're you know, you're three guys down. I mean
- 5:09Speaker 1: you have three what three tackles technically healthy right now?
- 5:12Speaker 1: Is you go into this game? So you know, are
- 5:14Speaker 1: you gonna roll Yadney could just out there for the
- 5:15Speaker 1: whole game. You didn't see when Harran Um or Durant yesterday.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I can't imagine you're going to see them Friday night. Yeah.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I feel bad for Christian Wilkerson, someone who on the
- 5:27Speaker 1: bubble like was he going to make it? And now
- 5:29Speaker 1: obviously he's probably not going to play tomorrow night. And
- 5:32Speaker 1: so that's one person that when you mentioned like the
- 5:35Speaker 1: bubble guys you know probably playing tomorrow night, that we're
- 5:38Speaker 1: not going to get to see. What was his injury?
- 5:40Speaker 1: I assume conct Yeah, I mean the reports are that
- 5:42Speaker 1: he's he's doing okay, but that it was but it
- 5:44Speaker 1: wasn't from a hit. He fell and hit his head.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I think Paul's got good a good speculation. Nobody knows
- 5:49Speaker 1: for sure that was what was crazy. We went back
- 5:51Speaker 1: down yesterday to all the Beat writers and it was
- 5:53Speaker 1: seven different stories, Like I went down like to get
- 5:56Speaker 1: the story, and we got about five of them. Yeah, Like,
- 6:00Speaker 1: no one really knows exactly what happened. Like I heard
- 6:02Speaker 1: he might have fell forward and hit his head on
- 6:04Speaker 1: somebody's knee. Now, who did you hear that fromm you
- 6:06Speaker 1: know it was because that's that's that's something that I'm
- 6:11Speaker 1: just gonna listen. I'm this is not typical Paul like
- 6:15Speaker 1: chastising the media. Like you know, I'm not being holier
- 6:17Speaker 1: than now here. Okay, a lot of guys that I
- 6:20Speaker 1: really respect, a lot the people that I talked to
- 6:23Speaker 1: about this, and Mike, you you and I were together
- 6:26Speaker 1: when we did this. No one really seems to know
- 6:28Speaker 1: exactly what happened. Phil Perry, you know, sort of threw
- 6:31Speaker 1: out there that he was kind of watching and thought
- 6:34Speaker 1: it was a non contact like he kind of lost
- 6:36Speaker 1: his footing and maybe he hit his head on someone's knee. Right,
- 6:40Speaker 1: someone else said. Someone else said he got blown up
- 6:43Speaker 1: by a blindside block that was vicious. Okay. Someone else said, well,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I shouldn't say someone else. Matthew Slater unequivocally said it
- 6:54Speaker 1: was a clean hit. It was a clean hit, but
- 6:55Speaker 1: it was a hit, But it was a hit, right,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know, so I don't really know exactly what happened.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Matt Rule said he didn't really see the play itself. Um,
- 7:09Speaker 1: Jalen Mills, I believe the first word out of his
- 7:12Speaker 1: mouth when asked about it was like miscommunication, which sort
- 7:16Speaker 1: of led me to believe that maybe the hit wasn't
- 7:19Speaker 1: all that out of the ordinary. But they all thought,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you know, they saw the result of the hit and
- 7:25Speaker 1: they were all concerned. Now what everybody is in agreement,
- 7:29Speaker 1: you know, both Carolina and New England. Matt Rule was very, um,
- 7:35Speaker 1: very upset at his own player, uh the aftermath, and
- 7:40Speaker 1: that that's what everybody seems to be an agreement on,
- 7:43Speaker 1: is the Patriots took exception to the Panthers um sort
- 7:46Speaker 1: of standing over Christian. Well, to me, like if the
- 7:49Speaker 1: guy is celebrating what just happened, then he thinks he
- 7:52Speaker 1: made the hit. Yeah, that's what it looked like to me. Yeah,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I mean, it's just the fact that this these were
- 7:57Speaker 1: two guys who got had a dust up the day before,
- 7:59Speaker 1: so it was easy to kind of jump to that
- 8:01Speaker 1: conclusion of all right, well, the Panther guy felt like
- 8:04Speaker 1: he got cheap shot at so now he cheap shot
- 8:06Speaker 1: of Wilkerson. I mean I came to it like everybody else.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I just came. It looked like Wolkerson was knocked out
- 8:10Speaker 1: cold on the ground. Like I didn't see him hit.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I didn't see anything. It was just a body on
- 8:14Speaker 1: the gown getting more into this. So we come down
- 8:17Speaker 1: and we're on the hill right, and I'm with Mike
- 8:19Speaker 1: Reese and Mike Giardi and Phil Perry and Mike des
- 8:23Speaker 1: and I and we're sitting there and we're trying to
- 8:25Speaker 1: like sort of get everybody's opinion. What did you see?
- 8:27Speaker 1: What did you see? What did it you know? Because
- 8:29Speaker 1: we're way up and we're on the radio, right, and
- 8:31Speaker 1: then like there's a lot to look at. So Trenny
- 8:34Speaker 1: because Nark from NBC Sports Boston comes over and she's
- 8:37Speaker 1: like listening, so I hear my show. Yes, she gave
- 8:42Speaker 1: me a shot, came down, comes on, she goes she
- 8:46Speaker 1: just thought it was a bunch of jack wagons fighting
- 8:48Speaker 1: on the field, which I kind of agree with, by
- 8:51Speaker 1: the way. But then she's like, Pauparola thought he was cold,
- 8:55Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, I was up on the
- 8:57Speaker 1: red level. I looked out and I see Christian. It
- 9:00Speaker 1: wasn't down, he wasn't moving. Yeah, I thought he was.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I thought he was out. I thought he got a concussion.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I thought he was out. And she's like throwing this
- 9:07Speaker 1: out there on the radio. I was like, I was
- 9:10Speaker 1: asking you what happened? Like I wasn't. I wasn't expected
- 9:13Speaker 1: to be used as a source. I heard that she
- 9:16Speaker 1: came in hot to that show after her one day
- 9:17Speaker 1: of observing practice. Oh that was hilarious, very very assured
- 9:20Speaker 1: of what she had been seeing. And I was like,
- 9:22Speaker 1: all right, I do agree that. Like in general, like
- 9:26Speaker 1: I've seen a million joint practices and I've seen a
- 9:28Speaker 1: fight in pretty much every one of them. Yeah, every
- 9:30Speaker 1: time the Patriots have been involved in a joint practice,
- 9:32Speaker 1: there's been some kind of fight. I never saw what
- 9:35Speaker 1: happened this week. Yeah, I never saw it from the
- 9:37Speaker 1: get go. I never saw that. I think my theory
- 9:41Speaker 1: is that, um, I've heard head coaches say in practice,
- 9:46Speaker 1: we have three things were either touching, thumping, or tackling.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And I think that the Carolina Panthers came in thumping
- 9:54Speaker 1: and the Patriots came in touching, and I think that's
- 9:57Speaker 1: where the problem was. Like, you might be right, you know,
- 10:00Speaker 1: you might be right, and they weren't. There was no tackling. Yeah,
- 10:02Speaker 1: they weren't on the same page in terms of the
- 10:05Speaker 1: level of physicality. Yeah, it felt like sometimes guys putting
- 10:09Speaker 1: shoulders into guys. And the Patriots definitely came with more
- 10:13Speaker 1: physicality yesterday, right, And I think that changed. I think
- 10:16Speaker 1: yesterday they were both thumping. Yeah. Yeah, I mean do
- 10:19Speaker 1: you think uh? I mean, I heard a lot of
- 10:20Speaker 1: speculation on Felgern Mass yesterday as to you know what
- 10:24Speaker 1: it means. I felt like they were really really extrapolating
- 10:27Speaker 1: on it. But you know, do you think it says
- 10:29Speaker 1: anything about the current state of who this Patriots team
- 10:32Speaker 1: is of of? You know? I mean you said fights before,
- 10:34Speaker 1: but does this say anything different about this team anything?
- 10:36Speaker 1: I don't know. I heard a lot of the same
- 10:38Speaker 1: stuff you heard. In One thing in particular that I
- 10:40Speaker 1: really disagreed with with Mike and Tony were talking about
- 10:43Speaker 1: was like, you know, they started off and they haven't
- 10:45Speaker 1: really done anything at camp and there's been such you know,
- 10:47Speaker 1: low physicality, and Bill had to like start all over
- 10:50Speaker 1: and take them out of pads and be like you're
- 10:53Speaker 1: making a dramatic leap there that I'm not ready to
- 10:56Speaker 1: make like the the day that they started in pads
- 11:02Speaker 1: and then there was a day they could have been
- 11:03Speaker 1: in pads that he wasn't. They've deemed as they were
- 11:07Speaker 1: so bad, Bill had to start all over, right, Like,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm not willing to say that. Like, I'm not willing
- 11:11Speaker 1: to say that. That's I think that they have a
- 11:13Speaker 1: plan when they go into they go into training camp
- 11:16Speaker 1: and they have you know, Tomarrow is going to be
- 11:18Speaker 1: out there this day in full pads, and then the
- 11:20Speaker 1: next day Mike do So is going to be in
- 11:22Speaker 1: full pads, and the next day Paul Pearl is going
- 11:24Speaker 1: to be in shorts and just helmets. Like I think
- 11:26Speaker 1: they know that going in. Yeah, I'm not willing to
- 11:29Speaker 1: say that something happened on day two that caused Bill
- 11:33Speaker 1: to realign his entire plan of practice on day three.
- 11:37Speaker 1: That's the way they would talk in yesterday. That's where
- 11:40Speaker 1: I think they go too far. I think next week's
- 11:42Speaker 1: joint practices are probably going to be cleaner. Yeah, well,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I mean you would at least like that the coaches
- 11:48Speaker 1: will be on the same page, and I think to
- 11:50Speaker 1: Fred's point, establishment of what we're trying to do here
- 11:52Speaker 1: and what is acceptable and what's not acceptable. Um, you know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: clearly Bill and Josh mc dams will be on the
- 11:58Speaker 1: same but they will also say I really would have
- 12:00Speaker 1: thought that all of the nonsense would have been taken
- 12:04Speaker 1: care of on Tuesday, and I wouldn't see it on
- 12:07Speaker 1: Wednesday and saw. I think there was bad blood from
- 12:11Speaker 1: Tuesday that carried over to wend And this is where
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think the miscommunication came. I think they think that
- 12:16Speaker 1: the Kenny Robinson guy from Tuesday lit up Christian Wilkerson
- 12:19Speaker 1: because they targeted him on Wednesday, and I don't. And
- 12:22Speaker 1: if I don't think that happened, I think it was
- 12:23Speaker 1: an overly action. The other thing I would pay discount
- 12:26Speaker 1: is the head coach of the other team's kind of
- 12:28Speaker 1: like on the hot seat. Yea, so he wants to
- 12:30Speaker 1: commit our guys, I've got them ready to play. He
- 12:33Speaker 1: was upset at his guys yesterday. I listened in on
- 12:36Speaker 1: his press conference and he was not happy with Chuba
- 12:38Speaker 1: Hubbard in particular, who I think was one of the
- 12:41Speaker 1: players that was asked to leave solely for standing over
- 12:44Speaker 1: Christian Wilkerson. Yeah, and he wasn't happy about it. Yeah.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's just one of those things
- 12:49Speaker 1: where the circumstances lined up and that reignited everything. And
- 12:54Speaker 1: to Paul's point, it might not have actually even been
- 12:56Speaker 1: a dirty play. It might have just kind of been
- 12:58Speaker 1: a coincidence, as they said. But you know, then a
- 13:01Speaker 1: little extra business from Jawan Bentley on Christian McCaffrey playtch
- 13:07Speaker 1: Wise play like he Wise was out of his mind
- 13:09Speaker 1: on the original thing coming off the sideline. Then the
- 13:12Speaker 1: first play of team was the McCaffrey run that Mike's
- 13:15Speaker 1: talking about that spilled into the stance, right, I mean
- 13:17Speaker 1: he was down there. Yeah, there's and I saw some
- 13:19Speaker 1: footage of that last night from Stance. I mean Tetrich
- 13:21Speaker 1: Wise got thrown into the I mean they're lucky. I mean,
- 13:24Speaker 1: I know somebody got injured unfortunately, but I don't know
- 13:27Speaker 1: how Tetrich Wise didn't get injured getting you know, thrown
- 13:29Speaker 1: down like he did. I mean he went right into
- 13:30Speaker 1: the pile. And I don't know how most people weren't
- 13:32Speaker 1: asked to leave based on that play. Yeah, Like I
- 13:35Speaker 1: think Wise was the only guy who was ye was
- 13:38Speaker 1: It should have been a lot more Patriots asked to
- 13:40Speaker 1: leave on based on that play. There was a lot
- 13:43Speaker 1: of extra polish on McCaffrey on that play. All right,
- 13:46Speaker 1: So beyond all those theatrics, Um, what did we learn
- 13:50Speaker 1: from joint practices? A good question, Jalen Mills, Yeah, I
- 13:55Speaker 1: think individual players. Yeah, what I think that Jalen Mills.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Obviously he humbly declined to agree that he has risen
- 14:04Speaker 1: to CB one, but I think that he was, to me,
- 14:08Speaker 1: like the star of the both days. I thought that
- 14:11Speaker 1: he really showed up both days and that you know,
- 14:14Speaker 1: obviously he's not like a J. C. Jackson like right now,
- 14:18Speaker 1: but I think that he I saw enough out of
- 14:22Speaker 1: him to be comfortable with you know, him being CB
- 14:25Speaker 1: one if he if you know, he was to start
- 14:28Speaker 1: why they got him last year. Yeah, and I think
- 14:30Speaker 1: I do appreciate that he says, you know, I still
- 14:32Speaker 1: have work to be done. And you know, I enjoyed
- 14:35Speaker 1: going up against DJ Moore this week, Like I thought that,
- 14:38Speaker 1: you know, he going up against him in that dynamic
- 14:40Speaker 1: wide receiver made me better. And I'm looking forward to
- 14:45Speaker 1: see if that wasn't just you know, this week thing,
- 14:48Speaker 1: and see if it carries over into next week's joint practices. Yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 1: it's huge, I mean, and he'll he'll get a good
- 14:52Speaker 1: challenge next week in Vegas with some of those guys
- 14:54Speaker 1: he'll face. But yeah, I think the individuals were I mean,
- 14:57Speaker 1: I think it was more of the same. I think
- 14:58Speaker 1: you're seeing a little bit of progression from the passing offense,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and you know, my Mac looks more comfortable. It's not perfect,
- 15:03Speaker 1: it's not you know, they weren't lighting up Carolina the
- 15:05Speaker 1: second day as much as they were the first. I
- 15:07Speaker 1: still really haven't seen much out of the running game,
- 15:09Speaker 1: and you know, I know that that is tough to
- 15:11Speaker 1: project in the preseason and enjoin practices and all that,
- 15:14Speaker 1: but I just think that's going to be the key
- 15:16Speaker 1: foundation of their offense. And you know, i'd love to
- 15:19Speaker 1: see that just get going, see the offensive line blocking
- 15:22Speaker 1: and rhythm. But again, you've had injuries along the offensive
- 15:24Speaker 1: line that have challenged that as well, now, you know.
- 15:28Speaker 1: And I think defensively, it's all right. You guys are
- 15:30Speaker 1: doing it against practice offenses and in those situations and
- 15:34Speaker 1: they look really good. But I think I'm like a
- 15:37Speaker 1: lot of people in that my expectations are very high
- 15:39Speaker 1: and I know that the challenges are going to be
- 15:41Speaker 1: very hard this year for this defense. So it's all great,
- 15:43Speaker 1: you look great in practice, but you got to start
- 15:46Speaker 1: to bring it, you know, in these games. And really
- 15:47Speaker 1: carried over on Tuesday. I thought the Patriots would dominate
- 15:51Speaker 1: on both sides, offense and defense. I thought they really
- 15:53Speaker 1: controlled the practice. I was disappointed that they didn't follow
- 15:56Speaker 1: that through on Wednesday. I thought Carolina came back on
- 15:59Speaker 1: Wednesday and had a good day for them. I thought, Um,
- 16:04Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones on the outside, you can see why there's
- 16:07Speaker 1: been a reluctance to do that. I thought Dj Moore,
- 16:10Speaker 1: who's not a not a really, I'm not a really.
- 16:12Speaker 1: He's six feet he's not like he's this, you know,
- 16:16Speaker 1: Deavante Adams, as Mike alluded to. Next week, you're going
- 16:18Speaker 1: to see a bigger guy who's you know, at the
- 16:21Speaker 1: top of it, you know, in the league. Right. So, Um,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I thought there was some good things too. I thought downfield,
- 16:29Speaker 1: I thought Mack looked like he was getting the ball
- 16:31Speaker 1: downfield a little bit more often on Tuesday. We didn't
- 16:34Speaker 1: see that on Wednesday. Um, you know, certainly as much.
- 16:38Speaker 1: And Mike also talked about the running game. That's something
- 16:42Speaker 1: they're gonna need to do. I mean, they had four
- 16:43Speaker 1: their five guys out there because just was in there
- 16:45Speaker 1: for win. But the you know, the holes weren't there.
- 16:49Speaker 1: So I was a little disappointed that, if you're right, Fred,
- 16:52Speaker 1: and maybe there was a little bad blood from Tuesday,
- 16:56Speaker 1: I was a little disappointed that maybe that the focus
- 16:58Speaker 1: was more on that then on holding off of what
- 17:00Speaker 1: they did on Tuesday. Now, Mac, I thought, was much
- 17:03Speaker 1: more optimistic talking about the offense after the Wednesday practiced
- 17:08Speaker 1: than he was last week, when I think the last
- 17:09Speaker 1: time we talked to him, we looked like his dog
- 17:11Speaker 1: just died, you know, just like you know, he was
- 17:15Speaker 1: talking a lot about you know, we have a handful
- 17:18Speaker 1: of bad plays that we have to eliminate and when
- 17:20Speaker 1: if we can do that, then we'll look at this
- 17:22Speaker 1: a lot, a lot differently. And I would agree with
- 17:24Speaker 1: that because I thought yesterday there was you know, I
- 17:28Speaker 1: think Badard had had numbers to go with this. I'm
- 17:32Speaker 1: not all that concerned about, but my naked just from
- 17:36Speaker 1: watching a lot of pressure, a lot of throwaways, and
- 17:40Speaker 1: when he's forced to move and throw the ball, he
- 17:42Speaker 1: doesn't throw it anywhere near his accurately as he does
- 17:44Speaker 1: when he's on platform. Yeah, so yeah, that those are
- 17:48Speaker 1: the things that I felt like derailed the offense yesterday. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:53Speaker 1: I was pleased with the offense. I mean Tuesday, I
- 17:56Speaker 1: thought the offense was really good. Whether or not they've
- 17:58Speaker 1: you know, gone back to the original Patriots offense. Son,
- 18:01Speaker 1: I don't care. They look better to me, you know,
- 18:04Speaker 1: um and Mac looked better yep. Um, So, but you
- 18:07Speaker 1: didn't think that yesterday, right, I didn't really watch us
- 18:10Speaker 1: closely yesterday. Tuesday, I would totally agree with you. Yeah.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I came out for a little bit yesterday, but I
- 18:15Speaker 1: didn't get to see the whole practice like I did
- 18:18Speaker 1: the day before. They were really good, I thought, on
- 18:20Speaker 1: both sides of the ball. Tuesday, I thought, Um, I know,
- 18:23Speaker 1: I said Jalen Mills. Yeah, I think I tweeted that
- 18:27Speaker 1: to Marry that I thought he was the best player. Yeah,
- 18:29Speaker 1: in the two days on the offense. Nelson Agilore, Um,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I thought that he had a really good week versus
- 18:36Speaker 1: the Panthers, and everyone was asking him in his press conference, like,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know, about his big catch that he had. But
- 18:42Speaker 1: he's like, you know, I think Jacoby might have said
- 18:44Speaker 1: this previously, maybe last year. He's like, if I can
- 18:47Speaker 1: get my hands on the ball, like it's my job
- 18:49Speaker 1: to catch it and and I think that he made
- 18:53Speaker 1: a miraculous catch. I know, I think Paula the Tree
- 18:59Speaker 1: unbelievable catch was three guys. I mean three guys right around.
- 19:02Speaker 1: By the way, I just refer to Tom as TB.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It's it's easier and that's not twelve. He is absolutely right.
- 19:11Speaker 1: That was an unbelievable catch. That was the highlight catch
- 19:14Speaker 1: of the two days. Yeah, that was a big wow.
- 19:17Speaker 1: He's been He's been consistent, and I think the question
- 19:21Speaker 1: that a lot of us are asking are are we
- 19:24Speaker 1: are we correct in buying the hype on the second
- 19:25Speaker 1: year free agent guys, on Agalore, on Godchaw, on John U. Smith,
- 19:30Speaker 1: not Kendrick you know. I mean we can get to
- 19:32Speaker 1: that in a second. But you know, those guys have
- 19:34Speaker 1: all been really good in camp and you just want
- 19:36Speaker 1: to And I felt I felt similarly about John U.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Smith last year. I didn't feel overwhelmed with Aglare. I
- 19:41Speaker 1: don't think Aglare had the camp. He he's having it.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I don't think that Godcha had the camp. But last
- 19:45Speaker 1: year I felt similarly got with with John HU Smith.
- 19:47Speaker 1: It felt like like it feels now this guy's going
- 19:49Speaker 1: to be a focal point of this offense. They are
- 19:51Speaker 1: going to try to get the ball in his hands
- 19:53Speaker 1: in a number of ways. Um, And I mean, I
- 19:55Speaker 1: don't know what the numbers are. Maybe we can check
- 19:56Speaker 1: with somebody, but I mean I think he's probably led
- 19:58Speaker 1: the know him or Jacoby of caught the most balls.
- 20:00Speaker 1: It's just you can see the concerted effort in the
- 20:04Speaker 1: place that they run that we want to get John
- 20:06Speaker 1: hu Smith involved is going to be a part of
- 20:08Speaker 1: this offense this year. And you know, and then to
- 20:10Speaker 1: touch on what Tamara talked about, we were on the
- 20:12Speaker 1: show yesterday talking about Born and you know, people were
- 20:15Speaker 1: kind of highlighting I think they highlighted a little bit
- 20:17Speaker 1: more than we did. And you know, his fall from
- 20:19Speaker 1: Grace on like second reps, it still felt like he
- 20:21Speaker 1: was rotating in. I thought some of that was overstated
- 20:23Speaker 1: out there, but still, if you had to guess, it
- 20:27Speaker 1: looks like the main group is Parker, Agilore Myers and
- 20:31Speaker 1: I would always ask the people that were making a
- 20:33Speaker 1: big deal of the second team thing with Born Yesterday's like,
- 20:36Speaker 1: have you watched the rest of camp because that's where
- 20:39Speaker 1: I think it's been. We you know, we talked about
- 20:41Speaker 1: it at length yesterday on the show. Yeah, you know,
- 20:44Speaker 1: and Tamara talked about it, and I think if you
- 20:47Speaker 1: you know, I remember everyon had that sort of breakdown
- 20:49Speaker 1: of everything that sort of happened with Kendrick Bourne, and
- 20:52Speaker 1: he brought up Fred. I thought this was a really
- 20:53Speaker 1: good point by the new guy, going to give the
- 20:55Speaker 1: new guys some Fredd of here. He brought up him
- 20:57Speaker 1: talking to Mike Reeves about the changes to the offense,
- 21:01Speaker 1: which it generally thinks that they don't like. Yeah, and
- 21:04Speaker 1: what have we seen since in camp? A very quiet
- 21:07Speaker 1: camp for Kendrick Bourne. Yeah, except for when he got
- 21:09Speaker 1: kicked out the first day. That was maybe the you know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: the most notable thing. I mean, he's made some catches
- 21:13Speaker 1: here and there, but yeah, he hasn't been terrible, but
- 21:15Speaker 1: I think he's been generally it's been Agalore, Myers and
- 21:20Speaker 1: Parker well, but last by one last summer, Born really
- 21:23Speaker 1: didn't emerge until later. And yeah, that's what we talked
- 21:26Speaker 1: about that yesterday. He could be a late starter, you know,
- 21:29Speaker 1: you know, certainly possible. He's definitely more of like an
- 21:32Speaker 1: in game type of guy where you see him really
- 21:35Speaker 1: show up in a game, but not so much at practice. Yeah,
- 21:38Speaker 1: but it's like it might be one of those guys.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I just think all those guys we've listed have had
- 21:43Speaker 1: some wow moments during camp and there hasn't been a
- 21:45Speaker 1: wow moment for Trenck. And I just feel like Born
- 21:48Speaker 1: had a lot of production in individual games last year.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I think Tennessee was one of them. I think Dallas
- 21:54Speaker 1: was one of the Browns. Maybe you know, maybe maybe
- 21:57Speaker 1: the Browns was another one, And I don't think that
- 21:59Speaker 1: he was necessarily. They're kind of guy like, well, I
- 22:02Speaker 1: know what I'm getting from Kendrick bo Like I think
- 22:04Speaker 1: they know what they're getting from Jacobe Myers all the time. Yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 1: because he's extremely consistent. And some games they were it
- 22:10Speaker 1: was a it was an Agalo game. Some games it
- 22:12Speaker 1: was a Born game. I don't know if they want that, yeah,
- 22:17Speaker 1: they you know, unless it's just like that game plan
- 22:19Speaker 1: kind of thing and they don't and they, you know,
- 22:22Speaker 1: the guys are doing exactly what they need them to do,
- 22:24Speaker 1: don't the way the other team plays, it's going to
- 22:26Speaker 1: be more featured with Kendrick Bow. I don't think they
- 22:28Speaker 1: care like, oh, it's this guy's game or that guy's game.
- 22:31Speaker 1: They just care when we do go to you, you
- 22:32Speaker 1: make the play. Well, that's what that's what I mean. Yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 1: that's what I mean. If it's a game plan thing
- 22:37Speaker 1: and the other team dictated that Agalo got more targets
- 22:41Speaker 1: this week, that they're fine with that. Yeah. I think
- 22:44Speaker 1: the interesting question in my mind is who do we
- 22:46Speaker 1: think at this point it's going to play more him
- 22:48Speaker 1: or Taekwon Thornton, you know, like like Thornton's been promising
- 22:50Speaker 1: they're both kind of that fourth receiver type or is
- 22:54Speaker 1: it going to be kind of a rotation And we
- 22:55Speaker 1: kind of thought it was going to be Agalore, you know,
- 22:58Speaker 1: with the speed kind of a guy, you know, with Thornton,
- 23:01Speaker 1: I just think that Thornton continues to look the part,
- 23:04Speaker 1: like he continues to get open, he continues to make plays,
- 23:07Speaker 1: and he continues to get better. He doesn't look like
- 23:09Speaker 1: this raw rookie that you know. Now we'll see, we'll
- 23:13Speaker 1: see what happens when the games start if he can
- 23:15Speaker 1: make plays with frontline corners covering him and you know
- 23:19Speaker 1: and all that when he's getting attention. But in practice,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I think he continues to get better. By the way,
- 23:24Speaker 1: we should mention breaking news the NFL and the NFLPA
- 23:28Speaker 1: reached a game an agreement on Deshaun Watson eleven games
- 23:32Speaker 1: and a five million dollars five so up from previously
- 23:36Speaker 1: was six. I think, so almost doubled it. I think.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I mean, I think a lot of people thought he'd
- 23:41Speaker 1: get a full season, so it's maybe felt like he
- 23:43Speaker 1: already did at eleven games. But you know, you're not
- 23:46Speaker 1: going to come in on gate week twelve to start,
- 23:48Speaker 1: you know, the last like what six weeks of the season.
- 23:51Speaker 1: He would if I was, well, it depends on what's
- 23:54Speaker 1: going on, Like, I mean, unless your Kobe Brissette has
- 23:57Speaker 1: like an out of body experience that I'm not anticipated, Yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 1: he would start for me in a week twelve. Yeah,
- 24:02Speaker 1: I'm wondering if they're going to go after Jimmy g
- 24:05Speaker 1: or they did something like that. Yeah, yeah, they know.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Yeah a lot of people have said that, you know,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I mean it's almost one years stop gap. Yeah, I
- 24:15Speaker 1: wonder how interested Jimmy would be in that. Uh, I
- 24:19Speaker 1: guess a job's a job, though, right, Yeah, I mean
- 24:21Speaker 1: at this point a chance to start, Yeah, Like, I mean,
- 24:24Speaker 1: how many places would he get traded to that he
- 24:26Speaker 1: would definitively be the starter? Like you know, the way
- 24:29Speaker 1: he I would hope he be thinking about, is I
- 24:32Speaker 1: do a good job there and you know, next scare
- 24:34Speaker 1: him with another team. But I've proven that I can
- 24:37Speaker 1: play no matter where. You know, it's just a it's
- 24:40Speaker 1: I feel bad for Browns fans of of having a
- 24:44Speaker 1: we keep in dealing with this stuff forever and now
- 24:45Speaker 1: you you know, like you have to root for this guy,
- 24:47Speaker 1: Like it was hard enough for me when we got
- 24:48Speaker 1: Antonio Brown and having a like kind of play both
- 24:51Speaker 1: sides of the fence on that one. I'm like, yeah,
- 24:53Speaker 1: I want him, but he's a you know, a terrible guy,
- 24:55Speaker 1: and I don't know, it's just as hard as a fan,
- 24:57Speaker 1: I think, to to resign yourself to rooting for a
- 25:00Speaker 1: guy that certainly doesn't seem like he's very We've done
- 25:03Speaker 1: it many times, you like, you don't know what these
- 25:07Speaker 1: guys are, like the only difference with this one is
- 25:09Speaker 1: you his his transgressions are public and everybody knows. But
- 25:13Speaker 1: I get. I mean, I I don't want guys that
- 25:16Speaker 1: are you know, I don't want like domestic abusers on
- 25:22Speaker 1: my team. These are pretty consistent with me, Freddie, Like
- 25:25Speaker 1: that's one I can't overlook um, and you know I
- 25:29Speaker 1: did the DUIs and stuff like that like that. This
- 25:33Speaker 1: is when you're you're really crossing over, especially when we
- 25:37Speaker 1: have Uber there's so many has a program where they
- 25:41Speaker 1: have car services for these guys. Oh well, they never
- 25:44Speaker 1: have to drive. It's like, you know, one of my
- 25:51Speaker 1: favorite players in the league to watch is Alvin Kamara.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Alvin Kamara supposedly is not going to be getting suspended
- 25:56Speaker 1: for this season, like he's got a domestic abuse that.
- 26:01Speaker 1: I don't know. I look at that as being I mean,
- 26:03Speaker 1: I don't I think what Deshaun Watson did is despicable.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Like I think that, you know, everybody, everybody's weight in.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I don't think there's like the Pro there's there's only
- 26:12Speaker 1: cons right, no one, no one's defending, nobody's winning. Yeah,
- 26:15Speaker 1: I think what Kimara is accused of is a lot
- 26:17Speaker 1: worse than what Watson is and supposedly he's going to
- 26:19Speaker 1: be able to play. So I don't know how the
- 26:21Speaker 1: league does these things. I don't know how they dole
- 26:23Speaker 1: out the punishment what they do. To me, it's all
- 26:25Speaker 1: about the public perception, especially hard with the quarterback who's
- 26:29Speaker 1: the face of your franchise and just everything kind of
- 26:32Speaker 1: goes through that person, you know, and that's the face
- 26:34Speaker 1: of your franchise. That's that's you know when we talk
- 26:36Speaker 1: so much about Mac, it's just such a key part
- 26:38Speaker 1: of the game. So it's just constantly in the forefront.
- 26:41Speaker 1: It's maybe a little easier to sweep aside when you know,
- 26:43Speaker 1: a different position, but yeah, it's just, uh, there's so
- 26:46Speaker 1: many guys though around the league, you know, Hill and
- 26:49Speaker 1: Joe mixing and like, you know, this one's not going
- 26:52Speaker 1: to play now. This is gonna be two almost two
- 26:54Speaker 1: full years. He's going to miss out of his career.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson all right, eight five five paths five hundred
- 27:00Speaker 1: is the A sticket hot line, web radio at Patriots
- 27:03Speaker 1: dot com is the email address. So tomorrow night, we've
- 27:06Speaker 1: got the preseason game against the Panthers, and you wonder
- 27:09Speaker 1: if there's still bad blood and maybe that might be
- 27:12Speaker 1: why Rule said I'm not playing my starters. I think
- 27:15Speaker 1: it was the plan. Yeah, okay, that's yeah, they're they're
- 27:19Speaker 1: a little bank. They have some guys coming back and
- 27:21Speaker 1: they got a ton of work. Um because it was
- 27:24Speaker 1: all Mayfield and Donald. Yeah, it sounds like Mayfield's gonna
- 27:27Speaker 1: be the starter too, which I guess. I I think he's.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I think he's I think he was better than Donald. Yeah,
- 27:33Speaker 1: they neither one of them were good. They were both bad.
- 27:36Speaker 1: They did get better after I after, after I made
- 27:40Speaker 1: fun of them, you know, they both they both got better.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Darnald made a throw in the two minute drill yesterday.
- 27:46Speaker 1: That was the best throw I think I saw in
- 27:48Speaker 1: the two days. Like I think if he tried that
- 27:50Speaker 1: throw one hundred times, that was the only time he
- 27:52Speaker 1: was completing. That was an amazing throw. Yeah, but not
- 27:56Speaker 1: not a lot of consistency for those two guys in
- 27:59Speaker 1: terms of in terms of their accuracy, like just all
- 28:01Speaker 1: over the spraying consistently high with his throws. Yeah. And
- 28:09Speaker 1: one thing too, just to point out, the Patriots reportedly
- 28:12Speaker 1: did make a signing of an undrafted rookie, Jalen Widermeyer
- 28:16Speaker 1: Nina Mayer wider miner Um. So he uh with position
- 28:21Speaker 1: is a tight end. So depth issues you've had, Dalton
- 28:25Speaker 1: Keene hasn't been healthy. Do you have word on Hunter Henry?
- 28:29Speaker 1: There was from minor from Jeff Howe saying mine mind. Uh,
- 28:34Speaker 1: so we'll see um. But but he's he's a big
- 28:37Speaker 1: guy six four two sixty at sixteen receiving touchdowns in college. Um,
- 28:41Speaker 1: you know, just had a real bad last year, didn't
- 28:42Speaker 1: really do anything. So he was just cut by Buffalo
- 28:45Speaker 1: UM a couple of days ago. So that's a little
- 28:47Speaker 1: bit of a depth. Remember when the AFC East teams
- 28:50Speaker 1: would take our scraps. Yeah, now we're we're now we're grabbing.
- 28:53Speaker 1: But it's but yeah, you get Henry has been out,
- 28:56Speaker 1: um and then Dalton Keene's been sort of limited, and
- 29:01Speaker 1: it kind of leaves you with Jono Smith, Matt Sokol
- 29:04Speaker 1: and Devon Asiasi and Socol played like the whole game
- 29:07Speaker 1: last week. Maybe they feel like they need uh because
- 29:10Speaker 1: I don't know how much they're gonna play Jono Smith, Like,
- 29:13Speaker 1: how much how much do you think the starters play smart?
- 29:16Speaker 1: I think it's a good question. I mean I would
- 29:17Speaker 1: protect select guys. Jude on Barmore maybe a quarter, you know,
- 29:23Speaker 1: you give him, I don't know, yeah, fifteen, fifteen snaps,
- 29:26Speaker 1: twenty snaps. I mean, I think some of the younger
- 29:28Speaker 1: guys like Mack Wilson, McMillan, you know, just just some
- 29:31Speaker 1: of those guys. Bentley maybe even a little bit like
- 29:34Speaker 1: maybe a little extended with the defensive guys maybe, but
- 29:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I would snaps for any of the guys
- 29:40Speaker 1: that I feel like you're gonna be might Key Jude
- 29:42Speaker 1: on Accordy and on those guys. But I'd love to
- 29:45Speaker 1: see Peppers get in there. I mean, he was just
- 29:47Speaker 1: I don't know what it was about him yesterday, but
- 29:49Speaker 1: just as he's as his workload has increased, he just
- 29:52Speaker 1: seems very involved, very aware of what's going on, directing
- 29:55Speaker 1: guys right in the middle of everything. That's one of
- 29:58Speaker 1: my biggest questions going into the s and how are
- 30:00Speaker 1: they going to use these all these safeties and you
- 30:02Speaker 1: know what, what can they do? I just I think
- 30:03Speaker 1: that that's going to be a key part of what
- 30:05Speaker 1: their game plan defense is. I just don't know how,
- 30:08Speaker 1: you know, you get four safeties on the field and
- 30:09Speaker 1: have enough speed. Um, so we'll see. I mean some
- 30:12Speaker 1: of the Jonathan Jones stuff probably related to that a
- 30:14Speaker 1: little bit. Yeah, when Mike talks about that speed too.
- 30:16Speaker 1: There was like one play and I don't, you know,
- 30:19Speaker 1: we don't like to read too much into like individual plays,
- 30:21Speaker 1: but it was like one red zone snap and you know,
- 30:25Speaker 1: they they look in and they throw what they leak
- 30:27Speaker 1: one out into the flat to a back. I think
- 30:29Speaker 1: it was Deonta Foreman. It just caught it and like
- 30:33Speaker 1: a shot, mac Wilson just comes comes right up and
- 30:36Speaker 1: he would have been right there break down and you
- 30:38Speaker 1: know up. You can always miss a tackle. But the
- 30:41Speaker 1: speed with which he got there was noticeably different than
- 30:44Speaker 1: like Kyle van Noy or Dante high Tower what you
- 30:47Speaker 1: saw last year. So that's something to sort of be
- 30:50Speaker 1: encouraged by. Yep, all right, five five is the ace
- 30:54Speaker 1: ticket a hotline. The phones are stacked, so let's uh
- 30:57Speaker 1: unstack them. Christian is La. What's up? Christian? Hey you guys,
- 31:03Speaker 1: how are you today? Good conversation going on? Um? Two
- 31:06Speaker 1: quick things. One, did you guys know that during the
- 31:10Speaker 1: melee that happened the other day a band would hurt
- 31:14Speaker 1: Um and esk and Yah who's just reported it? Although
- 31:17Speaker 1: they they are reporting he Tolly only hurt her foot,
- 31:20Speaker 1: but it sounds like it could escalate to something more
- 31:22Speaker 1: legally for the team. Unfortunately, I hope it doesn't. And
- 31:25Speaker 1: then the second thing is do you think Bill will
- 31:28Speaker 1: have some sort of um uh like um, wow, you're
- 31:36Speaker 1: breaking up? Christian you're breaking up, Maybe try back. Do
- 31:39Speaker 1: you think that that Bill will have will have a
- 31:42Speaker 1: problem giving given shorton a little more, uh, you know,
- 31:46Speaker 1: um reps and stuff during practice, even though he's a rookie. No,
- 31:51Speaker 1: he hasn't. No thanks for the call you're breaking up.
- 31:54Speaker 1: He hasn't had any problem giving him reps. No, he's
- 31:57Speaker 1: worked in. I mean, there's a clear kind of delineation
- 31:59Speaker 1: of the of the top guys. But but he's getting
- 32:02Speaker 1: his chances with Mac and there plenty, I mean, and
- 32:04Speaker 1: a lot of guys are. It's not like you just
- 32:06Speaker 1: have a bunch of scrubs on the other field. But
- 32:08Speaker 1: I think it's it's another great question about how big
- 32:11Speaker 1: can his role be, how much can he ascend this year?
- 32:13Speaker 1: Based on what we've seen. It's just I think we're
- 32:15Speaker 1: all getting the itches, like, just play him, just get
- 32:17Speaker 1: him out there, just let's see what he has. Let him,
- 32:19Speaker 1: let's make let him make his mistakes and try to
- 32:21Speaker 1: tap this speed right out of the gate because you desperately.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I can pretty much guarantee we're going to see him
- 32:26Speaker 1: tomorrow night. Yeah, yeah we should. I mean, he played
- 32:28Speaker 1: last week, so maybe a little extended works he you know,
- 32:30Speaker 1: if Mac gives him some shots. I mean he certainly
- 32:33Speaker 1: Mac has no problem throwing it up the Parker. Maybe
- 32:34Speaker 1: we'll see what what he feels like with Thornton. Yeah,
- 32:37Speaker 1: let's go to Dakota in Maine. What's up, Dakota? Hey,
- 32:42Speaker 1: can you guys? Hear May? Yes? Hey, So I'm the
- 32:46Speaker 1: same day, Dakota Trafton. I'm sorry we missed you. We
- 32:52Speaker 1: would have come down and said hello if we had
- 32:54Speaker 1: caught you early. We were on the show though, But
- 32:56Speaker 1: but thank you for for coming in the support. Oh,
- 33:00Speaker 1: I appreciate. I appreciate the call out. I wanted a
- 33:02Speaker 1: call to clare up a few things here. So I
- 33:05Speaker 1: get to training camp yesterday and I get there and
- 33:08Speaker 1: I hear Deuce and Tomorrow on the field talking you
- 33:12Speaker 1: were down there, weren't you? Du Ye's a warm up
- 33:15Speaker 1: crowd warms him up. I have no idea where these
- 33:18Speaker 1: where these guys look like. I have no idea what
- 33:19Speaker 1: they look like. So I was like staring. I was like,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I need to remember they looked like because if they
- 33:23Speaker 1: walked by, I want to shout to them. And then
- 33:26Speaker 1: I apparently lost Duke. At some point, no idea went
- 33:29Speaker 1: but I lost him, and I eventually saw Tamara like
- 33:32Speaker 1: walk off to bleachers. I'm like, oh, I want to
- 33:34Speaker 1: go say hider her, and I assume Deuce was still there,
- 33:37Speaker 1: but I had no idea what he looked like. So
- 33:40Speaker 1: I my hands. There there's a guy who was talking
- 33:43Speaker 1: with her, and I was like Mike, and he like
- 33:45Speaker 1: gave me it's a weird look. It gave me a look,
- 33:52Speaker 1: so I'm like, well, I know it is Tamara, so
- 33:53Speaker 1: I'm like Tamara and it was just like so awkward.
- 33:59Speaker 1: So I wanted to clear that up because tomorrow I
- 34:02Speaker 1: was so happy to see you, and I wasn't like
- 34:06Speaker 1: looking from Mike specifically. I would have loved to have
- 34:11Speaker 1: met you, Deuce. I would have loved to have met you.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, yeah, that would have been great. Hey,
- 34:15Speaker 1: may me next year give us a shout let us know, maybe, Paul.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I guess, well, next year, we're gonna have Doucey's We're
- 34:26Speaker 1: gonna have a booth for him at Comic Con signing
- 34:31Speaker 1: my new record, I'll forget your Brady Reducs. Matt Morrel
- 34:35Speaker 1: liked that one. Um, yesterday was like my million training camp.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I've been too, but yesterday was definitely the craziest one
- 34:44Speaker 1: in turn of all those fights, especially of course with Wilkerson.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Did you see what happened to him? So well, that's
- 34:51Speaker 1: I saw him go down, but the angle wasn't very good.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I was in. I was just behind the field goal
- 34:58Speaker 1: postum where the panther. We're practical. More people have seen sasquat. Yeah,
- 35:05Speaker 1: and what dunk was. I was trying to see how
- 35:08Speaker 1: hurt he was, because yeah, he was just laying on
- 35:10Speaker 1: the field forever. And I kept watching him, and then
- 35:13Speaker 1: that other fight happened and I look over and he's gone.
- 35:16Speaker 1: It was like a magic trick or something. I was like,
- 35:19Speaker 1: did he get up? Did he get carted away? What happened?
- 35:21Speaker 1: Where'd he go? Yeah? They walked him off the far
- 35:24Speaker 1: end and and you know, put him in the tent
- 35:25Speaker 1: and stuff and then cart him up. But yeah, it's
- 35:27Speaker 1: just scary, scary stuff. You just hate to see that
- 35:30Speaker 1: any sport. Yeah, when guys get cart off, they take
- 35:32Speaker 1: this back route. It's kind of a long way to
- 35:34Speaker 1: the locker room at backside. Yeah, sneak him down the backside.
- 35:37Speaker 1: So well, Dakota, thanks and keep in touch. Thanks for
- 35:41Speaker 1: the call, appreciate it. Let's go to New York where
- 35:44Speaker 1: Dominique is on the phone. What's up, Dominique? Hey, how's
- 35:48Speaker 1: everyone doing? All right? Good? Good dude. I had a
- 35:53Speaker 1: couple of thoughts. First, um, the whole offense offensive play situation.
- 35:59Speaker 1: I don't know what you remember from it, but do
- 36:01Speaker 1: you remember when I think Matthew Chichette left and then
- 36:04Speaker 1: Bill Belichick hadn't really named the defensive coordinator. You know,
- 36:07Speaker 1: he had jumped in during the seat and I think
- 36:08Speaker 1: his son Sees had done a little bit g Rob Mayo.
- 36:11Speaker 1: You know, I don't know what the reactions were for
- 36:13Speaker 1: that when no one knew what the defensive coordinator, if
- 36:15Speaker 1: we had the same panic that we you know have
- 36:18Speaker 1: now with Joe Judge. No, it was Brian Flores. It
- 36:21Speaker 1: was Brian Flores, defensive coach, defensive coach. Okay, got it.
- 36:27Speaker 1: But I'm starting to think with you know, as the
- 36:29Speaker 1: week progressive is I don't you know, you know, training
- 36:32Speaker 1: camp week a week is there? Like I don't even
- 36:34Speaker 1: say no concern, but do you feel a little bit
- 36:37Speaker 1: more calm and especially assuming that Bill might you know,
- 36:40Speaker 1: take over some some aspects of off intive play calling.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Somebody I don't know who it was. Again, I apologize,
- 36:47Speaker 1: I get all this stuff into it. I'm just glancing
- 36:49Speaker 1: at it. But somebody said that when they went to
- 36:51Speaker 1: two minutes, Bill was the one calling the play. That
- 36:54Speaker 1: was a report from Bert Breer who spoke to some
- 36:58Speaker 1: personnel from Carolina who felt like that was the situation,
- 37:01Speaker 1: that that Bill was the one. Actually, now, that could
- 37:04Speaker 1: have been as simple as situations will be embarked out
- 37:07Speaker 1: and that's why the calls were as such. But I
- 37:11Speaker 1: don't know. Yeah, I'm not going to feel good about
- 37:14Speaker 1: it until I see the offense productive. That's when I'll
- 37:17Speaker 1: feel I'll say, Okay, whatever they're doing, it's working. Yeah,
- 37:21Speaker 1: But until that happens, I'm not going to feel good about.
- 37:23Speaker 1: You know, multiple guys calling plays, I wouldn't feel good
- 37:26Speaker 1: about it. But if if you had to say, it's
- 37:29Speaker 1: one guy, who would you most be comfortable with, I
- 37:32Speaker 1: think Patricia. I just I don't want it to be Bill.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I just think he's at his best when he's able
- 37:36Speaker 1: to do everything and take in the situations and if
- 37:38Speaker 1: he gets too wrapped up and trying to call offensive
- 37:40Speaker 1: plays and think about like you know, maybe it's a process,
- 37:43Speaker 1: but Patricia has at least called plays. I mean, I
- 37:46Speaker 1: think the bigger point is something we talk about a
- 37:47Speaker 1: lot of you know, well they haven't a coordinators like
- 37:49Speaker 1: this before. But it's just there's not guys who have
- 37:52Speaker 1: been kind of in the system and you know, our
- 37:54Speaker 1: easy candidates to promote their guys from the other side
- 37:56Speaker 1: of the ball a little bit. This is different, I
- 37:58Speaker 1: have to admit, you know, even who it'll be fine,
- 38:03Speaker 1: in all those cases, it was either someone who had
- 38:06Speaker 1: been groomed for that position, even if they didn't get
- 38:08Speaker 1: the title right away, they've been grooming, or someone who
- 38:12Speaker 1: came in from elsewhere, like you know, Bill O'Brien, who
- 38:16Speaker 1: had done it. You know, this is different. Even though
- 38:20Speaker 1: Judge has been here, Patricia's been here, their football coaches,
- 38:23Speaker 1: they've never done the exact job or have been groomed
- 38:26Speaker 1: for that job. So it is different. It is different. Yeah,
- 38:30Speaker 1: and that's I just think you have to acknowledge that.
- 38:32Speaker 1: But I don't know. I think Paul's point is ultimately right,
- 38:36Speaker 1: And as I said on the radio yesterday, I just
- 38:38Speaker 1: you know, I hope will as the media try to,
- 38:40Speaker 1: you know, be fair to what isn't working within the operation.
- 38:43Speaker 1: And you know, as I said before Map, Patricia's hands
- 38:45Speaker 1: are all through it. So it's going to be hard
- 38:46Speaker 1: for I don't know, what's the last year where I said,
- 38:49Speaker 1: you know, it's really going to be important for us
- 38:51Speaker 1: as people covering the team to be accurate, yes, and
- 38:55Speaker 1: not let our biases, you know, dictate what we're telling fans. Yeah,
- 39:00Speaker 1: you know, I think it. Forget about it, I think
- 39:02Speaker 1: I know, but it's really important we can try and
- 39:05Speaker 1: not to let Max skate or you know, yeah, if
- 39:07Speaker 1: it's the offensive line and you just just to be
- 39:10Speaker 1: trying to be fair of what's not working, and it's
- 39:12Speaker 1: hard to untangle. It's easy to just say, well, that
- 39:14Speaker 1: was a bad play call, like you've seen it all
- 39:16Speaker 1: through camp, Like what difference does it make who's calling
- 39:20Speaker 1: plays in camp? Like seriously, well just for the quarterback
- 39:25Speaker 1: to get used to But I'm not talking about getting
- 39:27Speaker 1: in a rhythm in the game. Right that all of
- 39:29Speaker 1: that stuff is completely validate a game in practice, you
- 39:33Speaker 1: know exactly what you're doing every day. Right, he hasn't
- 39:36Speaker 1: been great. I haven't heard anybody say that. I mean
- 39:39Speaker 1: I shouldn't say anybody. I haven't heard that be widespread,
- 39:43Speaker 1: Like mac Jones hasn't you know, it's all what do
- 39:46Speaker 1: you expect? The kids? Got three guys calling plays for him,
- 39:49Speaker 1: and you know, it's that that's what you're gonna get,
- 39:52Speaker 1: gets what you're gonna get, all you And I think
- 39:53Speaker 1: it's up to us to, you know, like I'm I
- 39:57Speaker 1: think the Patriots have some good pieces on offense, enough
- 40:00Speaker 1: of them to be a good offense. But I'm gonna
- 40:03Speaker 1: try to be even handed. Like if if you know,
- 40:06Speaker 1: if Myers isn't having a good season, or if you know,
- 40:09Speaker 1: Smith once again can't get it going, that's not whoever
- 40:14Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator's fault is you know, yeah, it's not
- 40:18Speaker 1: you know. And I think I think Paul touched on
- 40:20Speaker 1: something too. Of it's easy in practice to call players
- 40:23Speaker 1: you know what you're calling, You kind of know what
- 40:25Speaker 1: you're working on. But it's the organic game stuff of all, right,
- 40:28Speaker 1: this is not working, we need to counter this. How
- 40:31Speaker 1: do we do that? Those are the things that are
- 40:34Speaker 1: hard to discern. But I think the offensive coordinator has
- 40:37Speaker 1: a huge role in of what we just kept trying
- 40:39Speaker 1: to do it because that's all we can do kind
- 40:41Speaker 1: of thing or wow, this wasn't working, so they went
- 40:45Speaker 1: spread and it started really to click, like you know
- 40:47Speaker 1: those are things where all right. That was a nice
- 40:49Speaker 1: adjustment offensively, but you know the Max's point of there's
- 40:53Speaker 1: guys open, he's not finding them. Those kind of things aren't. Now.
- 40:56Speaker 1: To answer your question, Dominique, who do I want? I
- 40:58Speaker 1: want it to be Bill so that when they when
- 41:00Speaker 1: the super Bowl, Bill cannot he can have a defensive
- 41:04Speaker 1: game plan and an offensive game plan in the Hall
- 41:07Speaker 1: of Fame. I wanted to be a Bill too, because
- 41:09Speaker 1: he's the only coach that I trust out of out
- 41:12Speaker 1: of the candidates. What do you want, Dominie. I deferred
- 41:18Speaker 1: it though, I'll be honest if I had to, if
- 41:20Speaker 1: it's not Bill off thing mass just because yeah, he's
- 41:23Speaker 1: been around, you know, I know Joe Judge had just
- 41:26Speaker 1: come back. But you know Madison, you know, fast with
- 41:28Speaker 1: the lines for a little bit. So maybe estimated working.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Maybe there was something going on internally that we don't
- 41:33Speaker 1: know that the you know, supervisor who knows, but that
- 41:37Speaker 1: you know, I'd love to know what this process is.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Bill is talking about. What is the process? You don't
- 41:41Speaker 1: need to worry about it, I know, I know it's
- 41:44Speaker 1: very procedural, Like you know, big mess up. Yeah all right,
- 41:48Speaker 1: Dominic Okay, oh sorry, yeah, I'll let you go after this. Um,
- 41:52Speaker 1: good question. I haven't gone a chance to see like
- 41:54Speaker 1: training camp out yet. How ta thort and been positioned
- 41:58Speaker 1: on offense like he's played as an outside he thought
- 42:00Speaker 1: a little bit of both both? Oh, a little bit
- 42:02Speaker 1: of both, thank you. Yeah, he's caught passes on the edge,
- 42:05Speaker 1: he's cut passes over the middle. Yep. Um. Yeah, so
- 42:08Speaker 1: they're they're looking at him everywhere, which is what they
- 42:11Speaker 1: should do. You know, you you don't want a guy
- 42:13Speaker 1: to be one dimensional, but he's a rookie. Every time
- 42:15Speaker 1: I see a clip of him, it just it's it's
- 42:17Speaker 1: reinforced of just his ability to be sudden, you know,
- 42:20Speaker 1: and it's just it jumps out. You know a lot
- 42:22Speaker 1: of the Patriots receivers in recent years have kind of
- 42:24Speaker 1: been somewhat plotting, and this is just a guy with
- 42:28Speaker 1: that slippery speed, and it's and it translates. You know.
- 42:31Speaker 1: I don't really ever remember, and I don't want to
- 42:33Speaker 1: bring Philip door Set into it, but you know, a
- 42:34Speaker 1: guy who ran like a four two something at the
- 42:36Speaker 1: combine and certainly had straight life. Paul guy, Philip do yeah,
- 42:41Speaker 1: you love Philip, but I never I didn't just like him,
- 42:46Speaker 1: but I didn't like him. But but I never remember
- 42:48Speaker 1: seeing just in and out of a break like that.
- 42:50Speaker 1: He looks smooth and sudden and you know, you see
- 42:54Speaker 1: yesterday defensive backs kind of like whoa, you know, like
- 42:56Speaker 1: he gets that quick step on them and they're like,
- 42:59Speaker 1: all of a sudden, they're in the does. So it's
- 43:00Speaker 1: just that's what's intriguing, it's what they've needed, it's what
- 43:02Speaker 1: so many fans have been clamoring for. So I just
- 43:05Speaker 1: hope they get that element involved in the offense as
- 43:07Speaker 1: soon as possible. William is in Philam what's up William?
- 43:10Speaker 1: What's up for? Are doing good? Okay? Question, well asking
- 43:16Speaker 1: more than one. I hope that I hope that store store,
- 43:20Speaker 1: and you know, I hope everything turns out for him. Basically,
- 43:23Speaker 1: I hope he doesn't get injured anything like that. I
- 43:25Speaker 1: just want him to have full seasons. Just hear it
- 43:27Speaker 1: out tesketball whatever like that. You know this, dude, what
- 43:32Speaker 1: you need to impark. I want him to just have
- 43:33Speaker 1: a healthy season. Yeah, that's a big question for sure.
- 43:36Speaker 1: I mean that might be why you keep some of
- 43:38Speaker 1: these extra extra guys. I mean he's had the injury
- 43:40Speaker 1: issues a lot, right and last my last not so much,
- 43:46Speaker 1: well not so much. Somebody will ask you, I'm a waste.
- 43:48Speaker 1: I'd rather wait for this until the season's done. But
- 43:51Speaker 1: I will say that after the season is done, I
- 43:54Speaker 1: would like to have a nice fell talker pictures. I'm
- 43:56Speaker 1: films like, I just want to. I don't want to
- 43:59Speaker 1: say up for them because, like I said, because the
- 44:01Speaker 1: season hasn't started yet, but after this season and for
- 44:04Speaker 1: what I have in the backroom mind, what I'm thinking
- 44:06Speaker 1: about how to send season might end. I really want
- 44:08Speaker 1: to talk to y'all series, okay, because you think it's
- 44:11Speaker 1: gonna be bad and you want to see how about
- 44:13Speaker 1: how bad do you think it could be? Like? What
- 44:15Speaker 1: what do you think is the absolute worst that they
- 44:17Speaker 1: could be this year? I don't, Oh, I think they
- 44:24Speaker 1: might make the playoffs. I'll leave it at debt. How
- 44:26Speaker 1: about this. Listen, then that's good If they might make
- 44:30Speaker 1: the playoffs. I'm I'm I'm on on board with that. Yeah, Like,
- 44:35Speaker 1: I just want to take another step further than than
- 44:38Speaker 1: you know, than last years. Sure, I don't know, like
- 44:40Speaker 1: I said, it's like they took it's why they took
- 44:42Speaker 1: a step back on the roster a little bit. But well,
- 44:45Speaker 1: they backed into the playoffs. They did their damage early
- 44:48Speaker 1: against the lesser teams, and they and they backed in.
- 44:52Speaker 1: You know, they didn't get in based on momentum, that's
- 44:55Speaker 1: for sure, you know, right, yeah, yeah, okay, all right,
- 44:58Speaker 1: thanks William take it all right? All I don't know
- 45:02Speaker 1: what he's gonna call back with him a little bit scared,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I think, you know, I think it's just like, okay,
- 45:07Speaker 1: now we've seen it. Now what do you think you know?
- 45:09Speaker 1: I mean, we'll be talking about it. It's not like
- 45:13Speaker 1: we're gonna hide after the season. We're gonna be out there. Yeah,
- 45:18Speaker 1: we don't hide now. I'm open. I'm open to whatever happens. Sure.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Web Radio at Page had a two hour postgame show
- 45:25Speaker 1: after that bludgeoning and against Buffalo last year. We're gonna
- 45:29Speaker 1: not have one this year. We'll be here. I mean,
- 45:32Speaker 1: we had a two hour post game after that preseason game.
- 45:34Speaker 1: We can do anything. That's true, after the preseason game,
- 45:39Speaker 1: you could do anything. Web Radio Patriots dot com is
- 45:42Speaker 1: the email address. Let's get to some of the emails.
- 45:47Speaker 1: David's in Maine. Can anyone please calm my worries about
- 45:51Speaker 1: the offense. Do we have competent outside the number of receivers?
- 45:55Speaker 1: Do we have red zone threats? Is our only hope
- 45:58Speaker 1: to score over twenty points against good teams? A greatly
- 46:01Speaker 1: improved year to Mac Jones to carry the team. Has
- 46:04Speaker 1: Max started to look better in training camp. Perhaps our
- 46:07Speaker 1: offensive play calls, with their lengthy experience, will know how
- 46:10Speaker 1: to utilize the players. DeVante Parker, I think, is a
- 46:14Speaker 1: pretty proven receiver outside their numbers. Yeah, I was almost
- 46:17Speaker 1: going to say, and I'm not sure if I believe.
- 46:19Speaker 1: This came in my head and I think I believe it,
- 46:21Speaker 1: but I'd almost say individually, not including the running backs,
- 46:25Speaker 1: but individually as far as receivers and tight ends have
- 46:27Speaker 1: been more impressed this year, which is their individual performances
- 46:30Speaker 1: and some of the plays that they've made in camp,
- 46:32Speaker 1: where I don't know if I was as much last year.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I don't know what it says about the team. I
- 46:36Speaker 1: mean overall, I think the offense has been clunkyer For me,
- 46:38Speaker 1: that's because of Thornton. Because I didn't expect Thornton to
- 46:41Speaker 1: be sort of knocking on the door of playing time.
- 46:45Speaker 1: I figured this was going to be a red shirt
- 46:46Speaker 1: kind of year for him, So I think he could play.
- 46:49Speaker 1: And I think the second year guys are comfortable and
- 46:52Speaker 1: they look like it, and I think that's why we
- 46:53Speaker 1: are seeing them make more places this year. Like Nelson
- 46:56Speaker 1: Agilore has definitely been like at the top of my
- 47:00Speaker 1: mind when I think of like the years, I think
- 47:02Speaker 1: he said good. I think he's had a good camp.
- 47:03Speaker 1: I liked those guys last year, like I don't love
- 47:06Speaker 1: any of them, but I think with with Thornton, I
- 47:11Speaker 1: think there's a there's a chance that he's he's part
- 47:13Speaker 1: of the mix, and I wasn't expecting that. Like Jono Smith,
- 47:16Speaker 1: to me, I wish that we had like some of
- 47:20Speaker 1: the stuff that we said and wrote last year about
- 47:22Speaker 1: JOHNO Smith, it's all the same stuff we're saying and
- 47:24Speaker 1: writing now. Everybody was like, this guy's an athlete, he's
- 47:29Speaker 1: gonna they're looking for ways to get the ball on
- 47:31Speaker 1: his hands, and they are and they do and they
- 47:33Speaker 1: did last year too, and it didn't really Yeah. I
- 47:35Speaker 1: mean had that pre season where he took the ball
- 47:38Speaker 1: over the middle and turned it upfield and it's like, WHOA, right,
- 47:41Speaker 1: that's athleticism. We haven't seen at that position since Gronk left,
- 47:45Speaker 1: and then you know it didn't translate. But it's still
- 47:48Speaker 1: it's as much as he's been involved, it's like there's
- 47:50Speaker 1: nothing about the involvement that makes you say, who he's
- 47:53Speaker 1: gonna be amazing, Like it's just he's heavily involved. Um,
- 47:56Speaker 1: you know, it's just gonna be a question of do
- 47:58Speaker 1: you break tackles, do you make guys miss? You know
- 48:00Speaker 1: are able to do that after the catch, right, and
- 48:02Speaker 1: then the last two days he was heavily involved in.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Henry hasn't been out there, so you have to remember
- 48:07Speaker 1: that too. Also teams like too a lot of you know,
- 48:09Speaker 1: just a lot of times last year the catches look
- 48:10Speaker 1: clunky and he just didn't really have a chance. Sometimes
- 48:13Speaker 1: not to say that, you know, it was necessarily Max's
- 48:15Speaker 1: fault or his fault, it's just the ball wasn't put
- 48:17Speaker 1: in a position where he could secure it quickly and
- 48:19Speaker 1: turn up field. That a lot of times he's twisted
- 48:21Speaker 1: in the air and just it didn't look right. So
- 48:23Speaker 1: I hope if it looks right, it'll present more opportunities
- 48:25Speaker 1: for him. I will say, Um, Paul, my favorite part
- 48:29Speaker 1: about Matt rolds press conference. Was his praise for Taekwon Thornton,
- 48:33Speaker 1: Like he genuinely looked like he must have recruited him, right,
- 48:36Speaker 1: yeah he did, but like just he was like, the
- 48:40Speaker 1: fans are gonna love him. He's a great player, obviously
- 48:42Speaker 1: he's like, but he's such an amazing person. I can't
- 48:44Speaker 1: wait to talk to him and his family. So he
- 48:47Speaker 1: had Thornton for one year at Baylor. Yeah, I don't
- 48:53Speaker 1: know if he actually I don't I don't know if
- 48:54Speaker 1: he actually got to coach. Yeah, I'd have to look
- 48:56Speaker 1: at the timeline. But I'm my guess is when he's
- 48:58Speaker 1: talking about his family like that, he's talking about being
- 49:01Speaker 1: in the in the kids living room. Yeah yeah, speaking
- 49:05Speaker 1: of family. Um, yeah, I'm just like at the point
- 49:07Speaker 1: and like I just wanted to play good. I just
- 49:10Speaker 1: wanted to be fast and like is he nice? Got great?
- 49:12Speaker 1: Like as long as he's like, you know, committing crimes,
- 49:14Speaker 1: like like fine, just be fast. Speaking of family. It
- 49:17Speaker 1: makes me think of James White, who officially retired on Tuesday.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Was it Monday or Tuesday? Tuesday? Tuesday? Tuesday? Yeah? Um?
- 49:25Speaker 1: And in his press in his press conference, you know,
- 49:28Speaker 1: he was asked you know, what, what do you want
- 49:31Speaker 1: to do? You know? And he says like, well, you know,
- 49:33Speaker 1: I'm not gonna jump into anything, but he didn't rule
- 49:35Speaker 1: out coaching, and he didn't rule out going into the media.
- 49:39Speaker 1: You know, so like, Okay, you know our show, you
- 49:43Speaker 1: can come on here anytime you want. That's my James
- 49:47Speaker 1: White laugh, right. I thought that, Yeah, workshop, it's easy
- 49:53Speaker 1: to get James White to laugh. He kind of laughs
- 49:55Speaker 1: at everything. But then there was one TV guy who
- 49:58Speaker 1: had asked the question about the past Larrence, and you know,
- 50:01Speaker 1: I had I had some I heard from some people
- 50:03Speaker 1: out there that uh were very like They're like, that
- 50:05Speaker 1: question ruined the whole press conference. I you know, it's
- 50:09Speaker 1: like did we really have to do that? And you know,
- 50:11Speaker 1: it brought it brought tears to his eyes, and you know,
- 50:15Speaker 1: I was sitting with no sign. We're like, well, he
- 50:17Speaker 1: got what he wanted. You know, that's what he was
- 50:19Speaker 1: looking for, right, you know that? Yeah, and he's done
- 50:22Speaker 1: that before. I didn't hear the question exactly, so I
- 50:25Speaker 1: didn't know exactly how he had teaed him up. But
- 50:27Speaker 1: I mean, what if your parents, what your parents mean
- 50:30Speaker 1: to you when you know, cry cry for me it's like,
- 50:34Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's a question he's answered many many
- 50:38Speaker 1: times before, and he's kind of private about that stuff too. Yeah.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Just and so now he's talking about his retirement, you know,
- 50:44Speaker 1: so let's I don't know, I just I don't think
- 50:47Speaker 1: I would ever be comfortable asking anyone about a tragic
- 50:50Speaker 1: passing of a parent. But a lot of his a
- 50:51Speaker 1: lot of his teammates were there, you know, Bill Belichick
- 50:54Speaker 1: was obviously, Ivan Fiers came back for it. It was nice.
- 50:58Speaker 1: It was nice. Did you get to see it because
- 51:00Speaker 1: Brown front of you, and I thought you were just
- 51:02Speaker 1: going to be like I'm sitting in the back and
- 51:05Speaker 1: of course who but Trent Brown comes and stands right
- 51:08Speaker 1: in front of him, like of course he does. I
- 51:10Speaker 1: might as well be at the movies, you know, where
- 51:13Speaker 1: the tall person always sits in the chair in front
- 51:15Speaker 1: of him Brown. Yeah, right now. It was a good
- 51:19Speaker 1: too good turnout though. I mean, you saw all the
- 51:21Speaker 1: teammates pouring in and everybody was there. It was it
- 51:24Speaker 1: was nice. It was I was talking to the radio stair.
- 51:26Speaker 1: It was funny how poor James's wife is like chasing
- 51:29Speaker 1: his screaming daughter around the home. He's like thanking. It's
- 51:31Speaker 1: like this hard Robert, Robert missed it a layup. He
- 51:35Speaker 1: missed a layup. So while Robert was talking, he was
- 51:38Speaker 1: talking about the twenty eight three game, you know, one
- 51:41Speaker 1: of the greatest games. And as he's talking right about
- 51:44Speaker 1: that game, the kids starts bawling in the back, and
- 51:47Speaker 1: Robert should have said, is Arthur blank here or something
- 51:51Speaker 1: about like, you know, now I know how the Falcons fell.
- 51:55Speaker 1: He missed a layup. It was like perfect timing. Started
- 51:59Speaker 1: crying to get in the ear plastic. Just as he
- 52:02Speaker 1: was talking about that game, the kids started crying, don't worry,
- 52:04Speaker 1: we came back something like that. That's what he should
- 52:08Speaker 1: have said, Oh don't we We came back and we
- 52:10Speaker 1: won that game. Why we gotta take a shot off
- 52:12Speaker 1: the blank. There's enough means of him yourself in a
- 52:15Speaker 1: position where some smart assn I would have, like, you know,
- 52:19Speaker 1: make a whole t shirt about it, or now that
- 52:22Speaker 1: they don't win anymore, they're resigning themselves taking shots at owners,
- 52:26Speaker 1: And I would that's see, I would think about that
- 52:29Speaker 1: kind of stuff all the time. It's a layup again.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Web Radio at Patrice dot com. Zach writes in from Brighton.
- 52:39Speaker 1: He says, I find it a little concerning that we
- 52:41Speaker 1: haven't heard much about Born throughout training camp in comparison
- 52:44Speaker 1: to the other receivers, Considering Kendrick spent a lot of
- 52:47Speaker 1: time in Shanahan's offense. I get that this new offense
- 52:51Speaker 1: will not just be a copy of San Francisco, but stylistically,
- 52:55Speaker 1: you would think that Born might have had a leg
- 52:58Speaker 1: up on this system given his experience. Is this something
- 53:01Speaker 1: you guys have thought about or am I off base? No?
- 53:04Speaker 1: I mean, I think when you talk about what they're doing,
- 53:07Speaker 1: I think it's just more related to the foundational run
- 53:09Speaker 1: game of the outside zone. So I don't know with
- 53:11Speaker 1: the passing game, really, you know, what the what the
- 53:14Speaker 1: difference is. I don't know if they're taking Shanahan's terminology
- 53:16Speaker 1: and using that as well. I'm sure it's terminology that
- 53:18Speaker 1: they've kind of been using. So as far as it
- 53:21Speaker 1: relates to the passing game and kind of the unique
- 53:23Speaker 1: things that they're able to do with deep and stuff passing,
- 53:26Speaker 1: it looks like it looks kind of the same. Although
- 53:28Speaker 1: you know, I don't know the answer to this. Have
- 53:30Speaker 1: they been running any RPOs or anything like? Yeah, they
- 53:34Speaker 1: have they've have have had a few, um you know,
- 53:37Speaker 1: and they and they did like none of it last year,
- 53:39Speaker 1: so I think, but again it's like how much are
- 53:40Speaker 1: they really hiding, you know, what they've done in early practices,
- 53:43Speaker 1: what they've done out here, what they did in the
- 53:46Speaker 1: game the other night. It's it's it's they're not putting
- 53:48Speaker 1: it all on full display yet. So I think a
- 53:51Speaker 1: lot of that stuff's going to be put in over
- 53:52Speaker 1: the two weeks when we don't see them. Yeah, and
- 53:54Speaker 1: you know, you know, it really comes to what they
- 53:56Speaker 1: get through the Raiders. It's going to be all Miami.
- 53:59Speaker 1: It's it's just gonna be getting ready for Miami. Yeah,
- 54:02Speaker 1: and it should be. I mean, it's a big, big
- 54:04Speaker 1: opening game. Geez ufc man, I just I'm sorry. I
- 54:09Speaker 1: I can't watch it. I can't watch two brutal. It's
- 54:12Speaker 1: too brutal for me. Yeah, to brutal. I don't know
- 54:13Speaker 1: what it says because I watched football all the time,
- 54:15Speaker 1: which I mean, but it's the same thing watching somebody
- 54:18Speaker 1: punch someone in the face, like as he's on the
- 54:20Speaker 1: ground on the virgin knocked out. I'd see. That's the
- 54:23Speaker 1: part of it that I have a hard time watching
- 54:25Speaker 1: is not like you know, like I'll watch a boxing
- 54:28Speaker 1: match and the guy gets one in the chin and
- 54:30Speaker 1: goes down. You wow, did you see that? But then
- 54:34Speaker 1: like the MMA guys you like you have, like they
- 54:36Speaker 1: jump on you, then the guys out. I can't get it,
- 54:40Speaker 1: and it's just the guy on the ground. Matt probably
- 54:44Speaker 1: has like flashbacks to the core. And have you seen
- 54:47Speaker 1: this new one where it's almost like arm wrestling but
- 54:49Speaker 1: they're holding each other's arm and then they're punching each
- 54:52Speaker 1: other with the free arm, just wailing away at each other.
- 54:56Speaker 1: I can't get into it. I can't either. Yeah, I
- 54:58Speaker 1: guess some I was talking to somebody who did a
- 55:01Speaker 1: lot of the app development for UFC when it first started.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Now he's doing it for bare knuckle brawling or bare
- 55:07Speaker 1: n that's he said. That's becoming bigger than UFC. Um
- 55:12Speaker 1: just barely get rid of any kind of padding or
- 55:14Speaker 1: protection for anybody, make it harder and more brutal. It
- 55:18Speaker 1: just yeah, it's just so brutal for me. It's funny
- 55:21Speaker 1: how like football is going to get outlaw opposed supposedly
- 55:26Speaker 1: at some point you know it's going to be flag
- 55:28Speaker 1: but yet more, you know, man to man combat, you know, right, Yeah,
- 55:36Speaker 1: sports are being developed and popularized. It seems like this
- 55:40Speaker 1: is a disconnect. This is what I like about football
- 55:42Speaker 1: is I feel like football is kind of embodies all
- 55:45Speaker 1: of it, like embodies timing and creativity and yes, physicality,
- 55:50Speaker 1: but it's not just about brutality. It's it's not about
- 55:53Speaker 1: speed and decisions. Christian goes down yesterday, okay, And maybe
- 55:57Speaker 1: Carolina was classless in standing over him, right, because you
- 56:01Speaker 1: see when it got on top of them and started
- 56:02Speaker 1: pounding them more like I didn't come over and jump
- 56:04Speaker 1: on him start hitting him again. That seems excessive, right.
- 56:09Speaker 1: And you know this whole thing about concussion, I guess
- 56:11Speaker 1: UFC they just don't. It doesn't matter, right. I mean
- 56:14Speaker 1: that's like because these guys that even after like two
- 56:17Speaker 1: or three years doing it sound like scrambled eggs. Yeah.
- 56:21Speaker 1: You know, can I ask you something completely separate from
- 56:23Speaker 1: our football discussion, from our Patriots discussion? Do you have
- 56:27Speaker 1: any idea where Tom Brady is No? No, I see
- 56:31Speaker 1: tom Antonio Brown tweeting at him now too. Yeah. No,
- 56:34Speaker 1: I saw that and that's what made me think of
- 56:36Speaker 1: it just now. But well, about a week ago on
- 56:39Speaker 1: the TB twelve account he had like family time is
- 56:42Speaker 1: the best time, and it was you know, the three
- 56:45Speaker 1: kids and he and Giselle. Now I don't know when
- 56:47Speaker 1: those pictures were taken and I don't know where, but
- 56:49Speaker 1: it seemed they seemed like recent pictures. Yeah, Yeah, I
- 56:53Speaker 1: thought the timing of him going away was interesting. Like
- 56:57Speaker 1: when the Dolphins came in for joint practices in the game,
- 57:00Speaker 1: It's like, was it because was it pre planned or
- 57:03Speaker 1: was it because of all the drama that just came
- 57:05Speaker 1: out six days before? He was there the first day, right,
- 57:08Speaker 1: pretty sure he talked to two to what told the
- 57:10Speaker 1: whole story about yeah, you're on the field with Tom
- 57:13Speaker 1: and talking to too. I heard that Tampa Bay screwed
- 57:16Speaker 1: up in not letting it out before camp, that it
- 57:21Speaker 1: was a pre planet and they made a bigger became
- 57:24Speaker 1: a big It is bizarre, Yeah, especially right in the
- 57:28Speaker 1: middle of camp, like I could see like he's gonna
- 57:30Speaker 1: be late, but like the core part of the preseason
- 57:34Speaker 1: when the main games are I mean, I look, but
- 57:36Speaker 1: at this point in his career, everything is bizarre because
- 57:39Speaker 1: he's you know, forty five years old and a starting quarterback,
- 57:43Speaker 1: you know, and everything he does is different. So I
- 57:46Speaker 1: think it's weird. Yeah, it does feel weird. I wonder
- 57:49Speaker 1: if we're going to get an actual maybe this was
- 57:51Speaker 1: planned when he like pre retired. Yeah, he could have
- 57:55Speaker 1: made it a game. He could have made a you know,
- 57:58Speaker 1: I just I can't help, but Gazelle's involved, and I
- 58:01Speaker 1: don't want to like speculate divorce, but just you know what,
- 58:03Speaker 1: I want to go vacation to Costa Rica the last
- 58:05Speaker 1: week of August. Tummy Well, there's no doubt that that
- 58:08Speaker 1: was an issue. I mean, she wrote him that before
- 58:10Speaker 1: before it was publicly it was public knowledge that she
- 58:14Speaker 1: wrote a letter to him basically giving him an ultimatum,
- 58:17Speaker 1: you know, at one point in their marriage, and somehow
- 58:20Speaker 1: he's still squeezed. He squeezing years out of it. I
- 58:23Speaker 1: don't have the answer. I just find it fascinating and bizarre. Yeah, something,
- 58:28Speaker 1: I mean, it just was wondering if you guys had
- 58:30Speaker 1: any theories that I hadn't heard. What else can you
- 58:33Speaker 1: speculate If nobody's sick and there isn't like a marriage
- 58:37Speaker 1: turmoil like otherwise, you know, he's dealing with a serious
- 58:43Speaker 1: situation in terms of health with his family or those
- 58:48Speaker 1: are the two things that came into my mind. But
- 58:49Speaker 1: then everybody says it was pre planned, right, So I
- 58:52Speaker 1: don't know, is that a lie? I gotta take it
- 58:55Speaker 1: a phase value planned like marriage retreat could be. But
- 59:00Speaker 1: I think tap tamara yours might be the most simple
- 59:04Speaker 1: and accurate. It could have been something when he had
- 59:07Speaker 1: that retirement where he made a commitment and he didn't
- 59:10Speaker 1: want to break it. That's a point to possibly. I'm
- 59:14Speaker 1: curious if we'll ever find out, you know, if he's
- 59:16Speaker 1: just gonna show back up and yep, I took care
- 59:18Speaker 1: what I had to take care of. And it's like
- 59:20Speaker 1: Castanza like when he quits. Yeah, he's just like, oh
- 59:25Speaker 1: you wait, what he's gonna be a fine sailor? You
- 59:27Speaker 1: really thought I I can't believe you thought that. So
- 59:32Speaker 1: he could be opening up. I was never going to
- 59:34Speaker 1: tell he could be opening up TB twelve in La
- 59:36Speaker 1: for all we know, y you know, the grand opening
- 59:38Speaker 1: of that. I don't know. Well, I feel like at
- 59:40Speaker 1: this point though, Bucks fans are just like, whatever, just
- 59:42Speaker 1: come play when you want. They're just like from a
- 59:44Speaker 1: football standpoint, it wouldn't bug me at all. Yeah, who's there? Backup?
- 59:49Speaker 1: I think Blaine Gabbert, right, yeah, or the kid from Florida,
- 59:52Speaker 1: Fred's guy Trask, Kyle Trask, he was there too. Yeah,
- 59:55Speaker 1: like football wise, it wouldn't bother me much at all
- 59:58Speaker 1: because I because of him him. Yeah, you know, if
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: it was someone else, you know, if Aaron Rodd, you
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: know whatever. Guys has been around as long as that.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: They don't need, they don't need all that. But it's weird.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: It's it, and I don't think it's something that he
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: wants per se. No, So it was supposed to be
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: for ten days. Is that what the absence was going
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: to be? Yeah, I think so. Maddie Morrell just sent
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: me a tweet that said Tud Bowls said he doesn't
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: have a firm date for Tom Brady returning, said it'll
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: be after the Titans game and they'll revisit it after that.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: And now that's weird. Why would you use that word? Right?
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: He also was asked, you know, will he be the
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: starter of Week one, and Bowls didn't say definitively yes. Wow, Okay,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: so that's weird. Now now i'm a little because it's
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: a little more open ended. Now, yeah, if it was
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: a schedule thing, So now I think maybe you know,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know. It is weird, which
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: as Elle says he can come back, he'll come back.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Russell in Arkansas. I have a non Patriots related football question.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Do teams send scouts to other Pro Football league games
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: and practices to look for guys with potential? Also? Is
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: it crazy to think that time Montgomery could lead the
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: team in receptions and yards? Yes, that would be crazy.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: What about yards from scrimmage? I don't think he's gonna
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: be that. Probably probably that that's not as crazy, but
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: probably not that either. I mean, if you've got Damien
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Harris injury, maybe that would you know, or somebody he
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Receivenson went out and maybe he has to do a
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: little bit more. But yeah, I don't think he's now
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: that good. Um his career high like three hundred yards.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: In terms of etiquette and sending other scouts to other
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: people's practices, you're not supposed to do that. Yeah, but
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: games games, every every preseason games. Oh yeah, they come
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: to the games to look at because you know, guys
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: you might cast off. They might pick up after this
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: after the preseason. But when in practice. Washington famously started
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: charging people years ago and once they started doing that,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: you had a pay to go to practice. That opened
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: up the ability for teams to send scouts to just
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: buy a ticket to go. If you're charging, then anybody
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: can buy a ticket to go, right, But it seems weird.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: But when it's free, you're not supposed to exploit that. Yeah,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: I remember that. That was a big thing when when
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Washington started to charge. Yeah, Washington does everything wrong. They
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: really do. Everybody's still like, we don't even care. What
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: are you guys doing? Uh, let's go to um backer
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: in Uval day. I would imagine that's Texas probably, Yeah,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: isn't it. That's that's where they had to shoot him. Yes, yeah,
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Uh just saw the Patriots signed tight end Jalen Widemeyer
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: after the Bills cut him. Can y'all keep us updated
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: on how he doesn't practice when he gets there. I
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: know he'll bottom of the tight end depth chart, maybe
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: a chance of passing Asia. But I was at A
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: and M while he played there, and he was really
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: good at getting open and making big plays. Well, you're probably,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I don't mean, I don't think throw him right in tomorrow.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: We're only going to see maybe two more practices. Maybe three,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: but but I think two joint practices next week, so
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I don't I don't think we'll get much of a
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: look at him. I'm curious if they threw him right
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: out there over tomorrow. But that was similar to what
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I read he was. He was kind of a promising,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: ascending guy early in his career at Texas A and M,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: but didn't really do well, didn't test well athletically. But
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: in that conference, like even like fans have stats, right,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: everybody scores everybody. Yeah, she loves shade to other college conferences.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: That makes her. How is Cole strange looking? He says?
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: How does he compare to other guards who went on
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: to have successful careers We've had come in, like Tuney
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: or Mason. Would you consider trading Agalore or Myers for
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: another starting piece in our offensive line? Wow? Range versus
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Burns was Yeah, I think he's I mean, I think
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: he's been up and down. I think he's had some
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: good moments of promise, and I think he's also, you know,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: gotten handled a couple of times. So it's a process
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: with him. I mean, I couldn't speak to how Logan
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Mankins looked out of the gate in training camp. But um,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: he certainly he looks like he plays with some fire
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: to him. I mean he is right in the mix
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: of stuff. You know, he can tell he plays with
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: a little bit of an edge. But I think he's
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: he's making a big jump. And I think some of
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: the big guys that he's got to deal with. I'm
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: thinking about Christian Wilkins coming up week one, those kind
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: of big, powerful guys. It's those guys don't exist where
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: he came from college. So he needs to get stronger athletically.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: I think he's pretty good, yeah, but I think he
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: needs to put on some some muscle. Yeah, anchor, that's, um,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: that's important. I think you need to be strong at
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: that postion. I'm not saying he's I didn't say he's not.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: I know, I know what you're saying. I think he
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: needs to be stronger. Yeah, he's gotta do some curls. Yeah,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: but I think I think I think yeah, And you
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: know me, I don't. I don't focus too much on
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: the offensive line. I leave that for the smart people.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: And we looked. I mean I would glance over at
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: the one on one sometimes and it was you know,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: mixed back. Sometimes I called this ground there who not
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: so much that time, So, I mean he'll get better,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: I hope. But I think the offensive line right now
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: is is a big question. I think that's one of
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: the weaknesses of the last couple of days of just
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: the protection seems a little spotty, not really opening up
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: line holes in the running game, not really in sync yet,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: dealing with some injuries. Um, that's something that has to
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: come together in the next couple There's two elements of that.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: There's guys just getting beat, but then miscommunication where people
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: are coming in unchecked. Yeah. Yeah, the latter concerns me
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: more than the former because we can work on the
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: other part and you know, work on their technure. It's
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: easier if it's communication. But if guys are running in
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: then that's that's a big problem. Yeah, I mean I
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: think I don't. I mean that that kind of stuff
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: didn't jump out to me the last couple of days.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I think it was. I mean, from from my perspective,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: it's it's, you know, you have free runner. It's more
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: about communication than if guys are just straight up getting
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: beat right then you know, all right? Does you know
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Yanni could just have what it takes to really actually
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: play right tackle full time in the league. Um, and
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: you know where's Isaiah wind been? Like, that's that's another
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: big question. Yeah, any word on him? No, now outside
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: of the day to day that we heard from the Yeah,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: I think somebody said he was running yesterday down on
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: the lower fields. I didn't see it, but I wouldn't expect.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Let's go back to the ACE ticket outline, Nats and
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Santa Cruz. Hey, Nat, Hey guys, Hey you can hear me? Yeah.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: Um So, first off, I thought that was like super
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: class list to ask James about his parents, that's just brows.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: One of the reasons I really like the patriotsun filtered
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: and Mike Reese is you guys don't do stuff like that.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: You really show a lot of respects to the athletes,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: and that means a lot um me as a fan. Okay,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: thank you, But what I wanted to touch on is, uh, James,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I guys like James White, Devin mccordy Matthews later they
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: really feel like, you know, Tom and Julian and Rob
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: were like the kind of football corps of the team.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: But I was still like, there's like an integrity corps
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: and um, just the good guys really felt like everything
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: great about the Patriots as a team, and uh so
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: it was just sad to see James retire and of thinking,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: you know, Devin and Matt later probably going to be
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: gone in the next year or two. Um, it's just
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: still like a big moment that these guys who sort
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: of meant so much at the heart of the team
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: will be um moving on. So I don't know if
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: that's how you guys feel about guys by James White
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: or Devin mccordy and any others that come to mind,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: but yeah, it just struck me that way. I've always
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: always loved how he carried himself, So it was a
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: kind of a sad, sad day for me to have
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: him retire. Absolutely, I take it offline. So you guys,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: thanks Nat. Yeah, I mean I think Bill would agree
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: with you. I mean, James was one of his circle
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: the Wagon guys as his slater in mccordy, and right now,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: I think it's got to be in the backup Bill's mine.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Who are who's going to take the baton? Yeah, you know,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: is it Matt Jones? It needs to be, And I
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if in the coming weeks we find
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: out that Max's been named the captain. Yeah, you know,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: I think it's a it's an interesting point, and I
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: think it speaks to the dynamic of where this team
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: is and some of the holdovers from that old And
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: I think you're seeing with David Andrews, I mean, Dietrich Wise. Yeah,
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: And I know some people, you know, maybe don't like
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: how he reacted yesterday, but I think he was one
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: of the guys that that said this isn't going to
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: stand and certainly put himself in harm's way to deal
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: with it. So, you know, I think I think that's
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: what has to happen. I think Mac needs to take ownership.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: I thought when David Andrews stepped up last week kind
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: of starting to take some ownership, You're not gonna be
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: able to rely on on d Mac and Matthew Slater
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: forever to set up and you know, set that that
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: off the field kind of tone. And so it's good
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: to see those younger guys step up. And I think
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: you're seeing Mac slowly, maybe even too slow, developed that
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: veteran savvy a little bit. He still seems a little
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: like a wide eyed repeating the talking points kind of
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: a guy but would like to see him be able
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: to move beyond that and just project more of his
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: own leadership and and you know, kind of take take
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: that ownership with Mike, and I like the examples that
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: he used. But just on Mac yesterday and Mike and
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: I were sort of listening to Mack. He is still
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: just a kid, and it's funny, like there was a
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: random question about Brian Burns in the situation last year
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: and he goes, yeah, yeah, we made up. We made up.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: We're friends. We talked at the Pro Bowl. We made up.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: We're friends now. And I was just like that sounds
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: like something a tenue old kid would say, like, Oh, yeah,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: that's not I that's we're okay now. We talked about it,
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: we made up. Yeah, we're Facebook friends now. Yeah. It's
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: just like he posted happy birthday on my wallets. Maybe
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: I just found it a little bit funnier than and
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: most people did. But I thought his phraseology was really funny.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: The less Spring we had a played a Yeah, he
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: came over, our parents talked. Yes, I will say. When
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: I was talking to Kristen, the Panther's team reporter, she
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: said that when they went to the Pro Bowl, they
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: were like, uh, is this going to be awkward? And
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: they were like no, that they that they really did
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: make up. So oh no, I believed everything he said
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: yesterday about that situation. He was laughing and talking about
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: how great a guy he is and how great a player,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: but like just the f YEA we made up. We
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: made up. Yeah, it's funny, Like that's what a ten
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: year old says. It's funny. He has just kind of
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: like ah shucks a little bit to him. But at
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: the same time, he seemed like it seems like those
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: guys generally like him, like I don't know, like like
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: guys like Brian Burn's like, I don't know, it's m
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: I can't quite explain, but they, even these tough guys,
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: they seem to have love for Mac. And I think he's,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: you know, earn earned some respect, I think, and I
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: think the guys generally really like him, um in the
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: locker room. It's just his personality is you know what
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: what he brings, So it's it's it's it's going to
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: be his team. So this season will probably be a
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: huge proving ground for him, and I'm sure there's gonna
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: be ups and downs and challenges with the play calling
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff. So I you know,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: even if this season doesn't go as great as we hope,
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: I think like coming out of this year with him
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: kind of continuing to be molded and to take ownership
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: and to be the guy for the for the team
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: and being captain, Fred will be will be huge. You know,
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: he's got he's got to be a captain. You mentioned respect.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: That was one of the things that came up with
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: the Panthers team reporter as well. She said J C.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Horne came away from this week respecting Mac Jones. He
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: was like Mac Jones his receivers, like I respected what
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: they were able to do out there, and him being
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: a guy coming back from injury, he was like those
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: one on one balls from mac Jones, Like that's what
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: I'd given him a chance to face those yeaheah's I
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: needed that I needed this week. Yeah, on Tuesday, the
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Patriots looked exceptionally good on those seven and sevens from
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: what I saw, Like balls weren't hitting the ground, guys
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: were getting open, and it's it's an almost impossible, you know,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: task for the defense, but they look really good. Yeah,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: better than they had early in camp. Against their own defense.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: A little bit of a theme in camp, though, I
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: mean pass protection things breakdown, mac tuck and run a
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: little too much of that. Todd's in North Carolina. Hey Todd,
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Hey guys, I totally agree with the last caller, and
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: he was absolutely right. Like the old scard is kind
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: of moving on, and it does make me a little
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: sad because those guys like Slater and and White were
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: so respectable. I got three quick questions which I'll take
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: the answer to offline. Number one, who's your drive starter?
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: Number two, it's a third and one who gets the ball?
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: And number three of which play do you call on
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: the goal line? Thanks? Guys, you're doing a great show.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: I know, thank you. I have one answer for all
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: three of those. Romandre Stevenson. That was my pick. I
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: was like, third and one, Romandre Stevenson on the goal line,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: more Stevenson, drive starter, Romandre Stevenson. I'll take all three.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I'll take his for all three of those. Um, what
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: if it was a pass catcher for a drive starter? Jacobe?
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Maybe yeah, I mean, but but I'd love it to
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: be any of them. Could be anybody, could be anybody.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: I don't want to say Agglor. I mean, maybe I
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: wouldn't say Parker just but but but we've seen him
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: catch some quick slants the last couple of days, So
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: it could be any of those guys. But I think
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: it's a good point. We talked about a little bit
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: on the radio yesterday was just what does what does
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: the short yardage situation look like? Now? Without a fullback
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: and you know, without really true blocking tight ends and
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: really not much tackle depth right now too. You know,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: so even if it is when comes back and haruns
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: the third tackle, like, you know, just what does the
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: short artist look like? We haven't really seen it? And
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: are they gonna be able to run the ball in
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: those situations without without that? You know, those those that
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: fullback was such a critical part of what they were
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: done the last few years. So I think that's something
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: we haven't really seen yet. Matt, where's everybody's food? We
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: didn't get food? Oh you didn't order food? Now, okay,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: so you can take a break at your him. I'm
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: gonna take a break now. We'll be right back with

- 1:26:01Speaker 1: And I'm going, that's another great moment from I like
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: teasing Hardy because I get a reaction to masters at work. See,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: I'm I'm a bully that way. Like, if you give
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: me a reaction, I'm gonna keep going. You're witnessing a
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: master at work. How about is eleven minutes? Egregious? But
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: hard He's all great to play with it though. I
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: was trying to get him going on the last post
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: game show about the music show he has. Oh that
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: was great. You know we were still talking. I don't
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: know what you were doing on that. You had me
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: baffled on that whole thing. Now. I was trying to like,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: you know, so is it an education show or a
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: music show? Like? You know? And I was trying to
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: like get him. I wanted him to get frustrated with me.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: You know. I just think he was confused. Yeah, I
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: think he thought you were joking around and then he
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: thought you were serious. Yeah. No, I was trying to
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: trying to act like I was serious so that you know, Yeah,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: he could, but I want I wanted him to get
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: impatient with me. It's a music show. But are you
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: talking in between? Like, so, what are you doing? He'll
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: do it, He'll do it. Yeah, he's a he's a
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: classic party. But no Hardy this week though, But I
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: mean he's still I thought we had him this week
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: and no Hardy next week. We have him this week,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: not next week. Correct. Oh good, because I need to
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: get Chris Ferreira somebody else as credential if it's not Hardy.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: But we're gonna have a Christian Urkian that's really good
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: instead of our party that was really good. And I
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: actually did I tell you he came in. Chris, he's
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: a good he's a good guy. So I talked to
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: him about that accent and he's like, yeah, other people
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: have said that he goes. I don't know where I
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: got it. When I went to Colorado, I had such
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: a New England accent that they trained that out of
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: me and then I developed this other thing. I said,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: it sounds like you're from Chicago. Where where where a
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: master did he grow up? Is it? I mean, is
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: it now? Oh? He mentioned it was. You know, there's
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: no rhyme or reason to who has accents. I feel like,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: I mean, there's certainly like some certain areas that have
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: distinct ones. I maybe say the North Shore, but like,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: I don't know, you probably in it more than like
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: around the city. You have the like the the dropping
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: rs is more around the city. Yeah, like really bad.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: And then there's definitely a New England dialect we have,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: like the os and and what like, like I would
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: say Bob instead of Bob like I wouldn't. I wouldn't
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: say Bob, I would say Bob, you know, And I
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: think most people in New England would That would be
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: bad kind of like that. But then you go to
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Rhode Island and it's like that combination New England, New York. Yes,
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: you like Corfy, Yeah, you know. There's such nuance to
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: it too, because so many times when people try to
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: do badly in movies, they take it as you just
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: drop every single R and it's it's not that easy.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: It's not that easy. There's somers that still live. You know,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: there's there's some really bad breath there are. There are
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: some really bad Boston accents here on in movies. Oh yeah,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: most of them weren't good. The Whitey Bulger movie that
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: they made, not not Not with Nicholson, the other one
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: the yeah, yeah, some of the ones in that one
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: were just so bad. What's his name, doctor Strange him
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: doing a Boston accent. Yeah, I was like, you just
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: watched John F. Kennedy and I was doing John F. Kennedy.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: It wasn't who had a funny accent. Yeah, it wasn't that. Yeah.
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: John F. Kennedy didn't have really he had a Boston accent,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: but it was more like an educated but like it
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: just it was funny, yeah, different, it's like intellectual, right,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: you know what the second somebody's doing a Kennedy versus
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: a Boston like Cuban, he would say Cuba, Yeah, Cubar,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: you know. He would put the R at the end
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: of me, and my brother wanted, yeah, that's it. That's it.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: That's a Kennedy. That's not a Boston, right. That's kind
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: of unto itself. Kenned. I had a really really strong
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: Boston accent when I went to college. I still have it,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: but it's not anywhere near as pronounced as it was too.
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: I love him video. I was just tired of getting
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: made fun of all the time. I just kind of
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: started saying ours a little bit. But is that where
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: the came out yesterday that I asked you? Yeah, but
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: that's I usually do it now for effect the Panthers,
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: the Panthers. You don't have an accent? No? Yeah? Was that?
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: Did you train yourself where just naturally you didn't have
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: an acc I never had one? Yeah, I do. I
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: feel like if I say, y'all, yeah, when you get
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: that from where you went to school, maybe I don't know, Yeah,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: pick it up. It's like Virginia's in the south, but
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: like you've been like not, you've kind of been all
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: over the place too. Yeah, well, yeah, that's true. You've
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: you've lived in different places. So that's I've I've lived
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: inside one twenty my whole wife. All right? Uh. Web
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: radio at Patrice dot com is the email address eight
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: five past five hundred is the a sticket outline. Let's
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: go to Ben in Pittsfield. What's up Ben? Hey, guys,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: what's going on, Hey, hey, I just don't have you
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: guys seen I think you came out this morning. But
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: there was a interview they interviewed Julian Edelman Outport show.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: He was saying one thing that I caught my interest
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: was um about how so this new offense that they're implementing,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: you know, it's we've been obviously seeing struggles, but it's
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: a lot simpler than what it had been. And so
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: one of the reasons why it came up in conversation
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: was making this offense, or making offense in general, much
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: like much more simple, could help the receivers a lot
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: because when they had Tom Brady and during that whole
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Brady era, it was super difficult to like learn this
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: offense if you hadn't been around it for years. Where
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: they were saying, if you know, didn't have a quarterback background,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: like you know, like Julian Edelman did, and I know
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: it's kind of frustrating seeing struggles, but like herring that
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: perspective from it, while I could be total speculations, I
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: don't know, kind of like excites me a little bit
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: because maybe you were like receivers that we draft, like
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: Tyclon Thorton won't end up being a bust like every
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: other receiver were drafted in the past, like five years.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: I just wanted your guys the sauce in that. I
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: thought it was pretty interesting. Yeah, I mean that's what
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: we were told early on, that this was an offense
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: that would allow players to play faster, you know, so
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: then you saw that, you know, the slow start. I mean,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: I love the theory of it, and I mean I
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: think that they had to do it. I mean, I
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: think we can. I can, I can criticize how they
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: did it, but I think they they had to because
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: I just don't think there was anyone else unless you
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: maybe kept Mick Lombardi here, that could keep the same
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: offense going. I think, you know, as hard as it
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: is for these new coaches to teach a new offense,
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: I think it would be even harder to try to
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: speak this language that Josh McDaniels established. So I hear
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: that excitement. I just I think the thing the concern
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: is is, like, you know, could you have just gone
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: and gotten an offensive guy to make this switch instead
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: of feeling like you're kind of not in the hands
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: of offensive experts. But I just I think the move
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: was necessary. I would almost say, why didn't we do
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: it when Cam Newton came in? I mean, I know
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: twenty twenty COVID all that was complicated, but you know,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: it would have been nice to try to do it earlier.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: But I think it's right if it If it, if
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: they do hit the reset button and they're able to
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: get more out of guys that come in and it
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: doesn't take as long to pick it up, then I
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: think it's I think it's great, you know, I think,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: but it's just can they do it with the guys
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: that they have and how they've chosen to try to
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: do it? That's my question. I also am not willing
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: to make the ass. I'm sure that a lot of
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: others are in that the problems with the receivers that
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: have been drafted have been the offense is too hard.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: Like I don't think Nikkil Harry's problem was he didn't
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: know the offense. As an example, Now, I don't know,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: I don't know that for sure. Maybe that was one
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: hundred percent of the reason, but I don't think that was. Yeah,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: I don't think that he failed because he couldn't pick
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: up the offense right. I don't think he was that good, right, Well,
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: And I think to your point, Paul, how many you know,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: how many of the guys that they drafted that they
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: missed on, did you really feel like they should have
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: gotten it? Like I was in the big Nikki Harry fan.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: I wasn't a big Aaron Dobson fan. But those are
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: two guys that as rookies stepped in and knew the
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: offense right away. They weren't that good. Kemeral Tompkins and
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: Aaron Dobson as rookies were key, key receivers, right, Yeah,
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: they just weren't that good. Like, I don't think it
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: was about the offense. Yeah, I've heard enough former players
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: tell me the offense isn't that complicated. You know. Julian
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Edelman is one who goes to the He told everybody
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: was calculus. Remember, But like I've heard forty a talk
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: about it. And let's face it, I love me subscription
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: for you. You know this here comes. He ain't a
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: brain surgeon, right, It wasn't hard for him. Yeah, And
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: I think for Gron, I think where the complication came
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: with Tom Brady was at the line of scrimmage, Like
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: you had to see it the way he expected you
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: to do certain by demanding in the offense. Absolutely, that
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: part is not overrated. He demanded a lot of his
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: receiver and he expected you to do certain things based
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: on how you were being covered in what their scheme
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: was in and you know what he saw out the
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. And I think that takes a certain
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: amount of like you know, instinct or you know. But
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: don't you think that if they had don't you think
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: that if they if Brady was the quarterback now, he
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: would be demanding a lot of his receipts and whatever
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: offense they were in. Absolutely, and I think it would
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: be tough on It would be tough on the quarterback.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: But you take a guy like Randy Moss, and I
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: know he's a Hall of Famer, but his football IQ
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: was out. You know, no problem, he comes in, no problem.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: Why because he's really good and he but he's also
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: really smart. Right, But I don't think that all of
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: these guys are really dumb. No, No, you're right, but
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: they didn't have the requisite talents. There's a difference. But
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: there's like a football IQ that Randy Moss had, that
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: Brown had, you know, Jon Branch, David Givins there's a
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: ton of guys and I could give you a lot
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: of examples. Jabbard Gaffney came away off the street and
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: was a key player immediately, right, Like was he just
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: smarter than Doug Gabriel or was he better? Yeah, and
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: better suited for this offense. Yeah, great, two thousand and six.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: Callback there, Paul, I love it. Like, but there's a
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: million examples of one of the players that didn't need
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: three years to figure it out. Yeah, And that's why
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: it's I think this is good territory they we're in,
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: Like who were who were the really good receivers that
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: just couldn't mentally grasp this? You know what I think?
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: My bottom line is, this is an offense that the
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Page has had for twenty two years and put them
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: at the top of the league in offense for like
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: eighteen of those twenty two years, and we're just like
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: eviscerating it now, like oh it's too hard, you know,
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: finally they got rid of at antiquated offense that we
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: scored so many touchdowns with all those years. Like, I
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: guess I'm just little defensive of the success that the
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: offense has had over the two decades that Bill has
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: been in charge, and maybe that sounds like I'm like,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: but oh, look how he picks and choose. That's defending that.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: I think what people are saying, it's an offense that
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: only somebody like Tom Brady could run, or well, I
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: don't think that's accurate. Brady grew yes in that offense.
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: Yeah it was. And Mike has said this a lot.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Because Brady was at such a high level and Josh
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: was at such a high level within the system, it
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: did make it a little bit harder, but not because
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: like that the system itself was excellent, right, can we
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: agree on that? Yeah, the system was a problem. Yeah,
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: And I think you're right. I just think it's you
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: don't have people to coach it too, Like, you don't
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: have people that can teach it and make it understandable
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: for people. So I don't I don't think the system
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: itself is the problem. I just think it's you ran
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: out of the AMMO of guys and it became so
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: you know, unique to what Josh liked and what Tom liked.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: But but Mac Mac picked it up last year pretty well,
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: he didn't, You mean quarterback overwhelmed with the system, you know?
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: So I mean I just I think it it had
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: to be done. Uh, we can talk about how they
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: did it, but but I think it had to be done.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: I mean, it's just it's it's so built up with
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: Josh and what it was. And I mean maybe they'll
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: get back to that point with Mac of another version
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: of the offenses. I think to say about like in
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: the number of years that you know, Tom was here
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: and Josh, like they kept layering stuff on the right
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: on the basis they have their own is the system,
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: but they's also fallbacks. Yeah, like when you have Josh
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: and Tom who've been together for Yeah, you know what, Hey, yep, Mike,
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: you remember you remember that game in oh eight when
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: we couldn't get well not a good example, remember the
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: game at eleven when we couldn't get anything going and
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: we went to this, right, this is what they're doing
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: us again, Let's go to that exactly what's happenings? Whereas
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: like Nelson Aghila ors what are you talking about? It
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: wasn't here, I wasn't here in eleven. I don't know
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: what what's this adjustment we're talking like, you know, rather
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: than scrapping the whole system, you can just as easily
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: take the same system the way it was back in
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: two oh three and say, okay, let's remember how we
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: start system right back then. Yeah, And that's what I
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: think to a degree of what they're doing, they're saying,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: let's go to this base outside zone is going to
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: be kind of our base. We're gonna build an offense
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: out from that. It doesn't mean that that's everything that
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: we're going to do, but that's the base foundation of it.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: And then maybe we'll get back to the point with
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: Mac And I mean, I think this kind of leads
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: to the next question of you know, what does next
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: year look like in success? Like if they let's say
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: they have a good offensive year, you know, is is
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: it look the same? Do they you know, make that
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: Patricia the full time offensive corner, Like what's the long
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: range kind that can we just play a game this
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: year before we start well, I mean, like to Mike's point, like,
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: let's say the next three years are really good offensively, right, Yeah,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: do we have to change the system because you know
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: it's getting too advanced. We have to change it and
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: you know, put a new system in because you know
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: the guy's coming in. Josh's fault. Josh made it too complicated.
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: No one else would ever. Now it's it's too bad.
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: I wish that we got to see Tae Kwon Thornton
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: play with Brady and see because I think he has
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: the ability. Oh yeah, that Nikil Harry didn't, right, And
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: I think that would have been the reason I think
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: Tai Kwan, you know, maybe not, you know, maybe he
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: ain't gonna catch fifty balls as a rookie, right, but
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: he looks comfortable doing what they're asking him to do.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: Nikil Harry never did. I got I gotta imagine I'm
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: imagining Tom Brady's eyes like, oh, I got me something
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: to play with right now, and it's uh. And I
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: guess in hindsight, it's it's it's disappointing that you couldn't
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: have had more of those kind of guys that just instantly,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: you know, pop, even if they're not getting it exactly
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: right right out of the gate, they just they have
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: the talent and if you could get them on the
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: same page, they're gonna make an end at Ray and
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: Saint Louis, can you tell me what you see? And wise,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: I'm not a huge fan of him, to be honest.
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: Do you all think he's good, Am I missing something? Yeah?
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: This is this is one I've I don't. I don't
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: really I wish everyone could see pol I think I'm waiting.
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: I'm waiting for thee. I he's not an every down player. No,
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: he flashes at times. He does. I think he does
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: what's asked of him, but like nothing. I just think
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: if you look the run game struggles, the rise of
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: his kind of role in the defense has you know,
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: has done nothing to kind of subside. I think he's
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: you know, he's a sub rusher. I think in most
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: defenses he's long. I think they like him because he
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: looks the part of a long guy that you know,
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: theoretically should be able to handle a lot on the
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: defensive line. And I just I struggle to see his
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: consistent impact. And I was surprised that they gave him
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: a long term deal. I think he's a wonderful guy. Um,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: you know the stuff the last couple days aside, but
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: you know, so that's why it's hard. It's like you
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: can understand as a locker room guy. Why why they
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: really like him and his personality. I just I just
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: don't see a consistent impact out of him. And I
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: keep wondering if someone like a Sam Roberts or a
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: Lebryan Ray or someone of that could actually beat him,
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: or Henry Anderson even But it just it seems like
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: Dietrich Wise is right there with those top group of
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: defensive linemen that they like, and you know, I hope
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: it suddenly clicks, but it feels silly at this point.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: You know, whatever year he's entering, to expect something new
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: and exciting from him. Anthony has a game cut extend
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: for four years, or trade away extend for four years,
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: or trade away from the hip group one Agaloor Harrison
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: win which Harris. I imagine he's talking about Damien, but
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: he doesn't specify. Wow, could just be like let expire,
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: So I think cut his win right? Oh okay, I
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: say sorry, I misunderstood. First trade away a galore and
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: then don't want to I want to extend, Harris. I
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: don't want to extend any of those guys for four years. Yeah,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: but you have to base the game. Probably extend. I
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: would probably extend because we really haven't seen like the
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: running game that much to say a thing about Damien Harris,
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: and he's been barking a lot, and I don't like it.
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: It's a tough one. Yeah, I would Aggalore be the
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: I think he's a better player than Harris, So you
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: would extend him, but cut Wine. But I don't think
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: that's Harris. Just because I think you got depth at
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: running back, you don't have any You don't have any
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: depth with with Win. I guess i'd try to trade
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: him group two Mac Jones, Christian Barmore or jude On. Okay,
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: cut jude On. So extend and what do you do
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: with math? Trade? No, I think it's a trade math.
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: I like it. TV, I like it. I like Barmore
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: a lot. Controversial she went evil, TV went I would
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: I would have to extend Max. I'd have to trade
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: Barmore because I think I could get the most for him. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: I think that's a good You think you can get
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: more for barnmore than Jones. Huh, But I need a controversial.
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: I don't I go of the two left? Of the
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: two left? I would I think I could get more
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: for Barmore. You must you know you need a quarterback.
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: So why I would extend Max? Yeah, you know, of course,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: the extend Max. You don't think you can get much more? No,
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: I do, but I think I could get I don't
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: think that good right, perfect, But I'm looking at my knees.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: I need the quarterbacks, so he's he's a given. And
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: then of the two, I think Barmore I can get more.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: So I would I would agree with Fred. I think
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: if you think that Mac Jones is your quarterback, you've
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: got to extend your quarterback. Yeah, I will say that.
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: I just one thing I've been saying is I just
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: want a full season on a Christian Barmo. I just
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: want to see what he's capable of in a full season,
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: you know, and and and and and as we've been
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: talking about NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate deepot Well,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: I mean he'd have to play more than third down.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: So you think next group, Marcus Jones, Kyle Dugger or
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: Josh I guess he means Joshua Bloodsha. I would extend
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: Marcus Jones. Paul likes Marcus Jones. I like me some
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: Marcus Jones. I like Marcus Jones is too, I like them.
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: It's quick trade Dugger, sure, yeah, cut blood zone, Yeah,
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: no offense, Josh Blood. Two more groups might be able
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: to get something. Andrews Brown and on when you, I
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: guess extend I would cut Brown trade on when you
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: and Keith Andrews extend him for you. Yeah, yeah, that
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: sounds about right. And then finally Parker John u and
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: Ousche Parker John. It's another one. I don't want to
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: extend anything. Probably I would probably extend to Uche even
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: though he hasn't really done anything, just because he's the
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: youngest guy. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: feel I don't feel great about it's a it's a
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: no win game. I don't like this game. I don't
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: like that, Freddie, I don't like it. Maybe say bad
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: things about Mac. I don't like this game. I like
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: the game, but the the pairings are tough. Yeah, well
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: that's the idea to make it tough. I will say
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: that the people, the architects of these games do a
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: great job of thinking bunching the players your GM for
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: a day. Name one player you would trade three first
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: round picks for that you feel would guarantee us a
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: playoff appearance. Oh stop it? Do you not allowed to say?
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: He wants to Shaun Watson. I could rattle off ten
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: quarterback and Josh Allen Patrick Mahons, Rogers, Yeah, I mean Brady. Right,
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: my conscious more allows let's say no quarterback because quarterbacks
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: are easy choice. Aaron Rodgers, you know, any of the
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: let's say it can't be a quarterback. Make it a
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: little tougher. I don't know, Jamar Chase, but like three
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: first round picks, I'm not giving three first I mean
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: non quarterback. I don't know who I would give it,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: and I probably just you're clear. I wouldn't give three
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: first round picks for Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady either
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: because they're too old. But I would do it for
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Mahomes or Josh Allen. I would say, waddle, I love me,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: Deebo Samuel. That was my numbers two if he still
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: willing to run the ball once in a while. I
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: mean I was getting up there. Yeah, you're trading away
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: a lot of future for a guy who talked about
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: retirement already. Yeah. The question is, basically, who would you
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: think that they could acquire non quarterback that would guarantee
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: you a playoff spot. Yeah, that's that's a better way
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: to put it, because I'm not given three first round
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: picks for anybody. I don't know, just any any impact
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: front seven kind of a guy. Who's the best cornerback
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: in the game today depends on who you it's hard
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: Zavian Howard, but there's no like clear anymore, you know,
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: uh Norman good guys. A j. Terrellis in that group
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: that I don't know if he's you know, I don't
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: know because like even Ramsey like may have had a
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: lot of missteps last year, he has too much mouth
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: for me to be I can't like, I can't this
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: is a clear talks your best pure pass rusher in
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: the game not named Darreon Donald Bosa. Yeah, maybe Bosa
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: a monster year um for the Raiders, right, Max Crosby.
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean I think there's a lot
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: of good players kind of give me that you would
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: give three first round? Yeah, I don't think I would
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: give three first round. I mean I would give it
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: for like a Josh Allen or a Mahomes, like a
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: young stud quarterback that I can have for the next
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: ten to twelve. Yeah, I would do it for that.
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: I'd give up a lot for Jordan Davis, I think,
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: even though he hasn't played it down yet in the NFL,
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: Bill Belichick retire the idea if Bill Belichick retires, would
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: you give three first round picks for Sean McVeagh. Oh, no,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: I would do that for Mike Tomlin, you would you
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: have to say that. But is there a head coach
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: that you would give up three first round picks for?
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: Not me? No, I don't know. I mean maybe maybe
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: with McVeigh. I mean, I think, I just I mean,
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: and I'm thinking almost more of I'm just saying the value.
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: If you really love a head coach, I think three
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: round that's fair. I'm also just considering the experience for
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: us specifically, like with a head coach like that who
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: seems like they're pretty open and accessible and you know,
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: so I think feeling to me selfish, going selfish, I know,
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: but I but but also for football reasons. I mean,
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: I think he would be uh, you know, I think
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: he'd be enjoyable to be round, but I think he
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: would he'd be able to put some things together. But
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: he's another guy that said I don't know if I
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: want to keep doing this, and he been you know,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: I'm going to vote. Tomlin has been able to have
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: a winning record with some very questions solutely. I mean,
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: you heard Paul after the Antonio Brown thing happened. Here,
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: Paul was like, I'm singing this whole new tune on
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: Mike tom last Like I always thought Mike tom was
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: kind of average as a coach. I thought they had
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: great talent and we're always good, but never great. Then
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: the whole Antonio Brown thing happened, and I said, I
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: have so much more respect for Mike Tomlin than I
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: ever had, based on the fact that he kept that
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: train on the tracks for all that time with that guy. Yeah,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I mean, I really gained a lot of respect for him.
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Between him and Flores, they got like the coolest sideline like,
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: and Flora's dressed in the Steelers It's like scary to me,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: just like the hat pulled down, and like I just
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: I think, I think it's a perfect for him and
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: unfortunately for us. Let's go to Dan in Virginia in Michigan.
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: What's up, Dan. I think Tomlin enabled all of that
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: rather than actually keeping a little up that that's a
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: discussion for another day. That's fired. Yeah, and they won that.
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: That's the point. That's exactly the point is he was
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: able to deal with it and have success with it.
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: It's like kind of like Bill Belichick with Lawrence Taylor. Like,
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: I give a lot of credit to Parcels and Belichick
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: for being able to win at a high level with
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: Lawrence Taylor outdoing cocaine god knows what, right, Like, that's hard.
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: They were able to keep enough of a lid on
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: it to keep winning. Yeah. Um, that's the actual subject
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: of my call. First off, I wanted to say, Fred,
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: I think you've got the best team that uh PFW
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: slash pu is has ever had. It's not just a
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: matter of the numbers of people that you've got. I
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: think right now, the particular micks of people that you have, um,
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: is the best that you've ever had. Not to um,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: not to dinner rate other people what they brought to
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: the show, but I think the particular people you've got
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: involved right now, all the way from the people that
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: appear on air and write the content online to you know,
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: to Matt Matise and the boot to party on the
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: pre and postgame show, I think this is the best
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: team you've ever had. So and I think it's something
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: going to get better as as Tamar and Alex and
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: Evan all get kind of more comfortable and um. But
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: as for an actual football question, so Jojuan Williams is
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: out worth perhaps the first ever of self inflicted case
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: of the Foxborough flu, and but was also gone for
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: the year. The previous opinion of this of the cornerbacks
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: seemed to be that the team had depth, but not
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: necessary a lot of talent, given that you've lost a
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: couple of bodies. But it seems like in the pre
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: in the um practice games and training and so forth,
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: it seems a couple of the cornerbacks have risen, like
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: Mills and so forth. Is your opinion of the cornerbacks
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: overall is a better worth state about the same? See?
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: And it's a great question. It's really a good question.
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: If I was just basing on who's had good days
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: so far in camp, I would say, Wow, this cornerback
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: group is better than I thought it was. But who
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: were they playing against? I don't know that yet. But
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: right now they've come out and they've shown more than
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: I thought they would right away. And the loss of
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: Butler and uh Williams doesn't change that for me, because,
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: like you said, Jalen Mills, you got the you know
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: all the Joneses, Um, you got Sean Wade, who's I
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: think he's shown something. You know, so I but who
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: are they playing against? I don't know the answer to that. So,
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: but right now, I like what I'm seeing. I like
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: what I'm seeing. I mean, it would have felt better
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: if they had the veterans looking good like Terrence Mitchell,
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler. I would have felt better if those guys
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: were playing more prominent roles, going to be the kids,
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: and I worry about that. Ye yep. I mean, I
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: think Mitchell with still some veteran you know, with andbrill
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: peppers the corner. No, I know, but you've got the
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: safeties back. They're kind of orchestrating things if you're gonna
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: use young kids. I think. I like, I like having
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: that experience. I would feel better about it if if
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler like sort of like, oh yeah, I see this,
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: I see what. That's the guy I remember. I would
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: have felt better about it if if he looked like
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: his old self, and he didn't. He didn't that. Yeah,
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: and it feels like they I mean, I think Terrence
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: Mitchell's had had some nice plays and has played pretty well,
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: but it doesn't feel like he's entrenched at that outside
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: corner spot in their mind. It's he started there, they
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: wouldn't have Jonathan stup what they had right. So I
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: think it is a question about about depth. And as
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: Fred said, there's so many good teams like just start
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: matching up on the outside and you know it's it's
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: you feel great about Jaylen Mills right now. But you know,
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: let's see what happens next week with Davante Adams. Let's
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: see when they get to Tyree Call in a couple
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: of weeks. Like, I mean, the right out of the gate,
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: you're gonna be hit in the face with speed every week.
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Why do they every week? What are they gonna do? Right? Right? So,
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: you know, I think they can they can match up
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: in the slot and with the safeties they can handle
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: running best Titans. But it's just it's the outside receivers
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: and you know what they can be able to do
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: enough with their safeties to not get corners lined up
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: on an island. And you know, we saw with Jonathan
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: Jones dealing with taller guys like I would have hoped
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: to have in Dan. I don't think it's the end
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: of the world losing John Williams and Malcolm Butler, I don't,
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: But I would have hoped that best case scenario, Mitchell
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: or Butler was like entrenched as a starter, you know,
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: and you had those three guys and then Jonathan Jones
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: in the slot. And now I can use like Marcus
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: Jones like I used Butler in fourteen. Like, I'm going
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: to find a way to get this guy in the
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: field because he's coming on and I think he has
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: some talent and I can work him in, you know,
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: and advantageous situations. I think Marcus Jones right now is
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: going to be a key guy. And I mean, like,
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: I think that's a lot. I think that's a lot
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: for like a third round route. Yeah, I hope he
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: plays tomorrow. That I mean, he didn't play at all,
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: one of the only rookies not to play. So and
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: I like, don't forget I've been I've been really bullish.
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: Yeah I don't. You don't. He's not your guy anymore.
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: He's been pushed out. No, I mean, I'm saying I
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: would feel better if the veterans were clearly like I
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: think that there's been no difference between Miles Bryan in In,
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: Marcus Stans with the veterans. And you can look at
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: that and say, well, the young guys push those older
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: guys out. But I think the older guys just don't
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: look that good. Like I think Malcolm Butler did not
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: look like the Malcolm Butler of old. Did you guys
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: feel like that? I thought he was. I mean, I
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: remember the stink face you gave Hardy one, you know,
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: the good kind of the good nomination in the postgame show, right,
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: my wrongs, I'm not I'm not mischaracterizing. No, I mean
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: I think it was like tread and water and kind
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: of hoping that it would start to come around and
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: not gonna rust off. You're not going to those guys
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: hoping those guys run, and I don't. And I haven't
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: seen much from Terrence Mitchell either. Like these guys I
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: would have hoped would have been clearly candidates to be
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: the starters, and I think they're gonna be young. They
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: still got some questions. Well, Jalen Mills, you still got
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: Jalen Mills, right, Yeah, that's where the definitely, I'm definitely
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: on the Jalen Mills train. He's played well. Yeah, but
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: he's played well. Another another guy that's gonna have some tough,
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: tough matchups though, you know, and I don't know I
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: don't think they're gonna feel about like, Okay, you're gonna
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: put him on Tyree Hill opening day or Jalen Wattle
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: opening day. Do you feel good about that Matchuppe. No,
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: it's a team effort. They're gonna have to play zone
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: to start they're gonna do. I mean, they're gonna need some.
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: I think they'll play a lot of zone. They need
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: to spin the dial, I think, I mean as much
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: as about zone versus match just I think they need
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: to know who they are and play to their strengths.
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: And I mean it is the safeties. But I think
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: I'm not gonna believe anything until we get in the
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: regular season. And there's the thing. You know, there's all
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: vary agents, there's man zone. You know, there's all man
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: and supporting the Matt rule. The Patriots have seventy five
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: different defense looks, according to his press conference. Certain they
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: threw them all up there on Tuesday, guys from everywhere
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: on Tuesday. Yeah, they probably do. All right, that's gonna
