- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's it out to the ramos Law hotline car accident.
- 0:02Speaker 2: You need ramos Law medical doctor and attorney Ramoslaw dot com. Uh, Like,
- 0:06Speaker 2: can I start with something real quick, just off the top.
- 0:08Speaker 2: It's not football related, but I know that you love
- 0:11Speaker 2: the teams around here. What's more impressive? Is it Jokic
- 0:14Speaker 2: almost going for twenty twenty and twenty last night?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Or is it Jamal Murray going for fifty three with
- 0:18Speaker 1: only five free throws?
- 0:21Speaker 3: Both pretty impressive, but twenty twenty twenty. I don't know
- 0:24Speaker 3: how often you're gonna see that in your lifetime.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, uh, he's.
- 0:28Speaker 5: The only got to do it three times he's done it.
- 0:30Speaker 6: I mean it's it's that's the thing. That one.
- 0:34Speaker 3: That one's ridiculous, especially for a center. I mean, that's
- 0:39Speaker 3: that's unbelievable.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Jeff Lagwell with us. Now to the Broncos part of things. Uh,
- 0:44Speaker 2: we were talking about this. Uh, I just want to
- 0:46Speaker 2: get your perspective, your trusted football.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Brain on this.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Marvin Mims is somebody who looks a lot like Jalen
- 0:54Speaker 2: Model and now you're wondering what his role is within
- 0:56Speaker 2: the offense. Him entering a contract year, do you see
- 1:00Speaker 2: any scenario with him in which they get into camp,
- 1:03Speaker 2: maybe he's not getting the reps he thinks he should
- 1:05Speaker 2: get with, especially the first team.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Does he go to the front office at all?
- 1:09Speaker 2: Do you think it's a possibility that he says, I'm
- 1:11Speaker 2: in a contract year, I need to play and prove
- 1:14Speaker 2: that I can make some money.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Well, I mean, at first, blush, I'd say, you know, no.
- 1:22Speaker 3: After talking to him a lot, I.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Mean, he.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I do think he's He's like any top flight athlete.
- 1:29Speaker 3: He's very prideful about what he can do, what he
- 1:32Speaker 3: believes he can do. So I don't have a problem
- 1:36Speaker 3: thinking he would. He would, you know, stick up for
- 1:40Speaker 3: himself at some point, But I don't know if he'd
- 1:44Speaker 3: go all the way to going to the front office
- 1:46Speaker 3: or you know, sitting down. You know, he would obviously
- 1:49Speaker 3: talk with Sean, and Sean's the head coach, or he's
- 1:52Speaker 3: going to talk to players all the time about their
- 1:54Speaker 3: roles and things. But I think if you're him, you're
- 2:00Speaker 3: if you don't see an uptick in you sage, you're
- 2:03Speaker 3: thinking you're gonna need to go elsewhere to to you know,
- 2:08Speaker 3: explore what you really are as a player. Right, I
- 2:11Speaker 3: still think and you know, look, it's just it's just
- 2:15Speaker 3: the sports writer guy and everything. But I still think
- 2:18Speaker 3: the Mimes, Wattle Sutton is the best three wide athletically,
- 2:25Speaker 3: route running all of it that they could put out there.
- 2:29Speaker 3: But you do have two similar players when you do
- 2:32Speaker 3: that in Wattle and Mims. But I still think that's
- 2:35Speaker 3: the best three.
- 2:37Speaker 6: Uh. And they're gonna run an awful lot of three
- 2:39Speaker 6: wide this year.
- 2:40Speaker 4: You know.
- 2:40Speaker 3: The Wattle trade is proof of that. And they were
- 2:43Speaker 3: in the top ten last year without them in three
- 2:46Speaker 3: wide sets. So but yeah, i'd like to see you know,
- 2:50Speaker 3: I've always been the guy who said I'd like to
- 2:53Speaker 3: see him get ninety targets and see what that looks like.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Uh.
- 2:57Speaker 5: First off, I gotta say this on the twitch feed.
- 2:59Speaker 5: So but he says, JFC, I'm so tired about hearing
- 3:03Speaker 5: about men's and waddle, to which Nelly responded on Twitch,
- 3:07Speaker 5: Can I offer you a mock draft in this trying time?
- 3:10Speaker 6: Yeah? Yeah, Well this is where we're at. Yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 3: See, we're talking about what they might do, what they
- 3:16Speaker 3: could do. I mean they're not on the field in
- 3:19Speaker 3: any sort of football drill until May, so I mean
- 3:22Speaker 3: even even longer for the Bronco Sean Payton keeps them
- 3:26Speaker 3: in conditioning longer than any other head coach, so we're
- 3:29Speaker 3: not going to see football stuff, but it matters. I mean,
- 3:33Speaker 3: they drafted the guy in the second round and seem
- 3:38Speaker 3: to want to do everything possible to not play him
- 3:41Speaker 3: as much as the other guys.
- 3:43Speaker 5: I do have a comment in a question here. The
- 3:45Speaker 5: Competition Committee has given the league a couple of things
- 3:49Speaker 5: that they'd like to change, one of them being on
- 3:52Speaker 5: side kick anytime. All right, Before I get to that,
- 3:55Speaker 5: I heard on the PhD show a d max solution
- 3:59Speaker 5: to it would be just no kickoffs at all, just
- 4:01Speaker 5: every team. And I think that's dumb because then you
- 4:05Speaker 5: eliminate the ability to get the ball back if you
- 4:07Speaker 5: desperately need the ball back. So that's why you have
- 4:09Speaker 5: to have kickoffs in the game, in my opinion, so
- 4:11Speaker 5: your kickoffs remain in the game. However, why wouldn't they
- 4:15Speaker 5: allow onside kicks anytime?
- 4:17Speaker 4: That was the dumbest move.
- 4:19Speaker 5: I thought I'd ever seen, to only allow onside kicks
- 4:22Speaker 5: in the fourth quarter. What if you want to throw
- 4:24Speaker 5: one at the beginning of a game, it's on you,
- 4:25Speaker 5: it's not Why not? Why is that such a difficult
- 4:29Speaker 5: concept to understand there.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Well, I'd be interested to see how Sean Payton is
- 4:33Speaker 3: in the meetings since he's the guy who did it
- 4:36Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl. Yeah, you know, to open the
- 4:39Speaker 3: second half or whatever.
- 4:41Speaker 6: I mean, I just think that was what. You know,
- 4:45Speaker 6: there was a.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Big push on the safety side of that play at
- 4:51Speaker 3: that time, and I think that was maybe they swung
- 4:55Speaker 3: the pendulum a little too far, and you know, coaches
- 4:59Speaker 3: and others want to see it come back a little bit.
- 5:02Speaker 3: But yeah, I you know, I think that play is
- 5:06Speaker 3: going to be in there in some fashion, the kickoff,
- 5:10Speaker 3: but that that's one of those They're gonna keep kicking
- 5:13Speaker 3: the tires on that thing because that is sort of
- 5:16Speaker 3: their leading in a lot of ways. They're leading concussion play,
- 5:21Speaker 3: uh in some fashion, so they're dealing with that aspect
- 5:24Speaker 3: of it while trying to keep it in the game.
- 5:26Speaker 3: But I think the on side kick, you know, if
- 5:29Speaker 3: if you have to declare it, who cares when you
- 5:32Speaker 3: when you try it?
- 5:33Speaker 5: Yeah, all semblance of surprise is gone. I declare I'm
- 5:37Speaker 5: gonna try to fool you by kicking to you an
- 5:40Speaker 5: on side kick.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Okay, it's got to be a happy there's gotta be
- 5:43Speaker 4: a happy medium in there somewhere, Jeff. There has to
- 5:46Speaker 4: be right, I would think.
- 5:47Speaker 6: But you know again, it's the meetings are.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I'm always stunned at at after I talk to people
- 5:55Speaker 3: who on the competition committee. Uh, they have the the
- 6:00Speaker 3: first meetings, like two weeks worth of meetings before they
- 6:03Speaker 3: go to the league meetings with these proposed changes. And
- 6:08Speaker 3: in that two week meeting, I'm amazed at what they
- 6:11Speaker 3: spend hours on talking about things I think need a
- 6:15Speaker 3: lot of discussion, just breathe through. And then they'll spend
- 6:19Speaker 3: three days on the minutia of the minutia in some
- 6:26Speaker 3: special teams play. And I think the kickoff has become
- 6:29Speaker 3: that when you talk to the competition committee.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Folks, Okay, two things real quick. One, are we really
- 6:35Speaker 4: paying wide outs forty two plus million dollars per year?
- 6:39Speaker 4: And Joe Flacco seems to think that he's deserving of
- 6:44Speaker 4: a job. Your thoughts on both of those topics.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Well, I always think if someone's going to pay you
- 6:51Speaker 3: something with two commas in it in football after you're forty,
- 6:55Speaker 3: I think you just say, you know, thank you and yeah,
- 6:59Speaker 3: I just or I mean, if someone's gonna you know,
- 7:02Speaker 3: your market is what someone will give you. But you know,
- 7:05Speaker 3: I know people don't like that all the time, but
- 7:07Speaker 3: it's true for all of us. You know, my market
- 7:11Speaker 3: is not what Joe Flacco's is, apparently because he can.
- 7:14Speaker 3: And it just shows you the shallow pool of quarterbacks
- 7:20Speaker 3: out there that are ready and can play NFL football,
- 7:24Speaker 3: despite the fact we want to put twenty.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Five in every draft that are ready to be stars.
- 7:30Speaker 6: That's just not the case.
- 7:32Speaker 3: And if it was a forty one year old Joe Flacco,
- 7:35Speaker 3: you know, wouldn't have such an easy time finding a spot.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But yeah, no, if they'll pay you, why not. You know,
- 7:44Speaker 3: I'm a little surprised because when he left here he
- 7:47Speaker 3: acted in some ways like, you know, maybe it had
- 7:51Speaker 3: enough of NFL football.
- 7:54Speaker 6: That's the part that I was thinking a thing.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, talking to him in the locker room after that season,
- 8:02Speaker 3: it just felt like he had decided, maybe I've had enough.
- 8:05Speaker 3: But that obviously that is not the case, because that's
- 8:08Speaker 3: a that's a long time ago.
- 8:10Speaker 6: You know.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It's funny somebody said, can we please stop talking about
- 8:15Speaker 2: Marvin Mimms.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you.
- 8:16Speaker 2: One of the reasons why is because there's only one
- 8:19Speaker 2: thing that's really affected this team that wasn't here last year,
- 8:22Speaker 2: and it's the Wattle trade. And I know that there's
- 8:25Speaker 2: still plenty of time and plenty of room for other
- 8:27Speaker 2: moves to be made, and they've opened up more cap space.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I think they're roughly around sixteen million dollars in which
- 8:32Speaker 2: they can spend.
- 8:33Speaker 1: But do you think that there's still more stuff coming?
- 8:40Speaker 2: Like, when you look at it from this perspective, they
- 8:42Speaker 2: brought back, retained ninety four percent of their snaps from
- 8:46Speaker 2: last year, and then added Wattle to this.
- 8:48Speaker 1: It doesn't leave a lot of room for a lot
- 8:50Speaker 1: of else.
- 8:51Speaker 3: You know what I mean, Well, there probably isn't other
- 8:54Speaker 3: than the draft class. Yeah, that's that's that's where they're
- 8:57Speaker 3: at though. But that's when when you say think you
- 9:00Speaker 3: have a good team. This is how it.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Looks to this though, where it's like really just one
- 9:07Speaker 2: external addition.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I know Tyson Anderson's in there too, but one really
- 9:10Speaker 1: big one.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Not this kind of retention. But this is a uniquely
- 9:15Speaker 3: positioned team. You've got a team with a lot of
- 9:17Speaker 3: cash too. It can it can do these things when
- 9:21Speaker 3: other teams could not. I mean Pat Bowl and I'm
- 9:24Speaker 3: certain wanted to retain a lot of players, but they
- 9:28Speaker 3: didn't have a cash upfront cash to do it. This this,
- 9:33Speaker 3: this ownership group can do this anytime it wants to. Yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 3: and so we may see it again, and other ownership
- 9:41Speaker 3: groups cannot do this. They can they can sign guys
- 9:45Speaker 3: to true extensions during the season because they're not worried
- 9:49Speaker 3: about cash flow. They can do it anytime they want.
- 9:53Speaker 3: And I think that's been underestimated in the discussion of
- 9:57Speaker 3: this ownership group league wide, is they can do this,
- 10:02Speaker 3: will do this, and they'll do it more than anybody
- 10:05Speaker 3: else because they have more money than anybody else.
- 10:09Speaker 6: And the memes thing.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Look, you know, I've told fans who've had or people
- 10:14Speaker 3: who've asked me, you know, why is it such a
- 10:17Speaker 3: discussion point? And I say, in my time as a
- 10:21Speaker 3: beat writer doing this job, I feel like I've been
- 10:26Speaker 3: able to answer a lot of the questions I've had
- 10:29Speaker 3: about things. I have not gotten a good answer from
- 10:33Speaker 3: anyone ever about why Mims's usage has always looked the
- 10:39Speaker 3: way it has, even from Marvin. Marvin doesn't know, or
- 10:43Speaker 3: at least he's not saying if he thinks he knows.
- 10:46Speaker 5: I agree Is he not practicing hard?
- 10:50Speaker 4: Is he no? The part what is no?
- 10:53Speaker 6: That's what I mean.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I watched the guy in the parts of practice we
- 10:57Speaker 3: see in camp. I take I pay attention when I'm
- 11:01Speaker 3: out there, and uh, I see a really good player
- 11:07Speaker 3: who has a hard time, you know, And I have
- 11:10Speaker 3: to believe it's you know, that it's coming from somewhere
- 11:15Speaker 3: that he doesn't fit something they want. But I have
- 11:19Speaker 3: just said I don't have that answer. And it's one
- 11:22Speaker 3: of the few times I felt like I haven't been
- 11:26Speaker 3: able to get an answer as to why things are.
- 11:30Speaker 5: We are now a month away from the NFL Draft.
- 11:33Speaker 1: What is it?
- 11:33Speaker 6: You feel it? You ready?
- 11:35Speaker 4: Yeah? Wait?
- 11:36Speaker 1: Wait wait when's the top one hundred coming?
- 11:38Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 11:38Speaker 5: How much of your top one hundred you have done yet?
- 11:41Speaker 3: Well, I mean I've looking at tons of guys, so
- 11:45Speaker 3: I've stacked. I've stacked about five eighty players. So we'll
- 11:51Speaker 3: get we're getting to the final hundred. But I think
- 11:55Speaker 3: it will run a week out from the draft, a
- 11:58Speaker 3: week and a half out from the draft, something like that.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Well, that sounds fun going through five and eighty different
- 12:03Speaker 5: players in film.
- 12:04Speaker 4: My goodness, I had to.
- 12:05Speaker 6: I had to get down to five eighty or so.
- 12:08Speaker 6: That's the issue.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Holy Now this time of year is funny in the
- 12:12Speaker 3: media because now you got a lot of people talking
- 12:15Speaker 3: about the draft who are surprised by some players that
- 12:20Speaker 3: nobody in the league is surprised by. They've been They've
- 12:23Speaker 3: been stacking these guys for a year. It's just that
- 12:28Speaker 3: a lot of us covering this thing are suddenly interested
- 12:32Speaker 3: from the combine on.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Hey, man, I appreciate your work because I read it
- 12:37Speaker 4: all the time. Number one, Number two, I read your
- 12:39Speaker 4: top one hundred every year. I appreciate it very my bible,
- 12:42Speaker 4: my draft Bible. But it doesn't mean you're not a
- 12:44Speaker 4: geek for doing.
- 12:45Speaker 3: It's that's that's there's that's definite proof of that.
- 12:49Speaker 6: Only a moron. Only a moron would.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Cover a beat and then decide, Hey, you know what
- 12:54Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna stack a lot of draft guys
- 12:57Speaker 3: for for fun.
- 12:58Speaker 6: I mean, you gotta be be some kind of idiot
- 13:01Speaker 6: to put all that together.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Okay, I get two quick questions then number one. I
- 13:06Speaker 2: remember I think it was mayok years ago. But you
- 13:09Speaker 2: almost never see this when they're the drafts going on
- 13:12Speaker 2: and you have like the live analysis during the draft right,
- 13:14Speaker 2: and somebody got drafted and they went to an expert
- 13:16Speaker 2: and I think it was mayok and they said, what
- 13:18Speaker 2: can you tell us about this guy? And he straight
- 13:20Speaker 2: up said, I don't know.
- 13:22Speaker 6: Oh, I know the player.
- 13:23Speaker 3: The Raiders took a safety one year that nobody else
- 13:26Speaker 3: I knew even had a draftable grade on.
- 13:29Speaker 1: So has that happened to you before?
- 13:31Speaker 3: Oh I I oh, yeah, no, you get you know,
- 13:35Speaker 3: day one, not usually you don't usually get that surprised,
- 13:39Speaker 3: but day two. Sometimes day two it'll be like, wow,
- 13:43Speaker 3: you know, I'll at least have the guy's measurables, you know,
- 13:49Speaker 3: height way what he did at is pro day, I'll
- 13:52Speaker 3: have that, but I won't have sometimes I won't have
- 13:55Speaker 3: the deep dive on some.
- 13:57Speaker 6: Of the guy.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Okay, So what did you think when the Raiders took
- 13:59Speaker 2: Sebastian jenny Kowski in the first round that year?
- 14:02Speaker 3: Well, you knew, you knew about him. It was just
- 14:04Speaker 3: that they decided a kicker was worthing. I think they
- 14:08Speaker 3: took the punter that year too, Leckler. I think they
- 14:10Speaker 3: took I think they took two kickers in the same draft,
- 14:13Speaker 3: which I thought was was quirky.
- 14:16Speaker 1: So last thing for you and appreciate your time, Legy.
- 14:19Speaker 2: There's been a little bit of a controversy at your
- 14:21Speaker 2: network between Pat McAfee and Dan Rolfski, and he was
- 14:24Speaker 2: talking about who he thought the best quarterback in the
- 14:26Speaker 2: draft was.
- 14:28Speaker 6: Dan like Simpson he likes a lot.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, what is your thoughts on if you guys missed it?
- 14:33Speaker 2: Him and McAfee got into a little back and forth
- 14:35Speaker 2: with Mendoza a little bit, a little bit chippy, I
- 14:37Speaker 2: suppose in between those two. But what did you think
- 14:39Speaker 2: about like Orlovsky's assessment of that, saying that he thinks
- 14:44Speaker 2: he's better than Vanana Mendoza.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Oh, I would say you, you would be stunned if
- 14:51Speaker 3: if all of us could look at the thirty two
- 14:53Speaker 3: draft boards in the league, you would be absolutely stunned
- 14:58Speaker 3: at the differences what a group of people looking at
- 15:03Speaker 3: the same group of players can decide where those players
- 15:07Speaker 3: are ranked.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So you think some teams have Ty Simpson as the
- 15:10Speaker 1: best quarterback.
- 15:11Speaker 6: I don't know that for sure.
- 15:13Speaker 3: I know some have it a lot closer than we
- 15:16Speaker 3: would think because some scouts and gms are more comfortable
- 15:21Speaker 3: with speculative. I mean, since it only has fifteen college starts,
- 15:26Speaker 3: some GMS will just move him down the board for
- 15:29Speaker 3: that alone, Like that's not enough of the sample size.
- 15:34Speaker 3: I'm not diving in in the first round for that
- 15:39Speaker 3: just because of the sample size effect.
- 15:42Speaker 6: Yeah, or you know.
- 15:43Speaker 3: For years you could just pick a guy, you know,
- 15:45Speaker 3: Anthony Richardson, Mark Sanchez be going back. I mean it's
- 15:49Speaker 3: there's I remember Pete Carroll blew a gasket when Mark
- 15:53Speaker 3: Sanchez announced he was entering the draft because he'd only
- 15:56Speaker 3: started for you know, one season.
- 15:59Speaker 1: He wasn't ready something long.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's but that's I'm just saying some
- 16:04Speaker 3: people wouldn't care how good Simpson looks. They would they
- 16:09Speaker 3: would sort of numerically, they you know, he loses some
- 16:14Speaker 3: value because we don't have the sample size. So but no,
- 16:17Speaker 3: you you know, I can ask twelve scouts at the
- 16:22Speaker 3: Senior Bowl what they think of this one player and
- 16:25Speaker 3: get twelve very different grades. That'll be like four rounds apart.
- 16:31Speaker 3: So I mean that it's out there, and I think
- 16:34Speaker 3: we don't talk enough about that when we talk about
- 16:37Speaker 3: the draft. We we have this thought that there's one
- 16:41Speaker 3: consensus board that every team's working off of. No, I mean,
- 16:45Speaker 3: it's it's a lot of players and a lot of opinions,
- 16:49Speaker 3: and the best people at it get get more right
- 16:52Speaker 3: than the other guys. But there there are tons of
- 16:55Speaker 3: opinions on every guy.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Can I zapp something very quickly? Because are you reading
- 17:00Speaker 5: about this and it's out there? Oh well, the reason
- 17:02Speaker 5: Orlovsky's pushing for Simpson is because Simpson and Orlosky share
- 17:06Speaker 5: the same agent. Now, I've known Dan for a long time.
- 17:09Speaker 5: I've known Dan for a while, He's been on our show.
- 17:12Speaker 5: I'm telling you stop with that crap. The man thinks
- 17:16Speaker 5: for himself. You think the influence of a shared agent
- 17:20Speaker 5: is gonna have him go on national television and put
- 17:22Speaker 5: his credibility on the line.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Stop it.
- 17:25Speaker 5: These stupid rumors get out there and people fall for it.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And I don't know how you fall for it and why.
- 17:30Speaker 5: It's silly, it's stupid. It's a knock on a man's character.
- 17:34Speaker 5: Dan Rolovsky feels one way has nothing to do with
- 17:37Speaker 5: outside influence from his agent.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Ridiculous.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing, too big, I mean, guys, I mean, look,
- 17:45Speaker 3: would Ty Simpson and his reps enter the draft or
- 17:50Speaker 3: announce they're entering the draft in January if they don't
- 17:54Speaker 3: already know how much how good NFL people think he is. Yeah, look,
- 18:02Speaker 3: they've been scouting him.
- 18:03Speaker 6: For a year.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Just because the media pays attention to the draft after
- 18:08Speaker 3: February doesn't mean the league hasn't been scouting all year.
- 18:12Speaker 3: They had the information that is surprising so many people
- 18:18Speaker 3: right now. They had that back in January. The only
- 18:21Speaker 3: reason he comes into the draft. I mean, your choices
- 18:25Speaker 3: are to go play, start one more season in Alabama
- 18:28Speaker 3: and make millions of dollars, but you choose not to
- 18:33Speaker 3: do that because you don't. I mean, you know your
- 18:35Speaker 3: draft status, you know how people are interested in you,
- 18:39Speaker 3: and you know you're most likely going in the first
- 18:43Speaker 3: round way back in January. So a lot of the
- 18:47Speaker 3: narrative is just people who don't pay attention to the
- 18:51Speaker 3: draft the other ten months of the year getting involved.
