- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:03culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:06media, the creator economy, and the digital space every Monday
- 0:09through Thursday. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner,
- 0:12the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:17Welcome back to Mini Scroll, everyone.
- 0:19I am podcasting from bed, which I've actually never done before
- 0:24in the five years, almost five years that we've done the
- 0:27podcast, I've never been in bed before.
- 0:30I'm still not feeling great, as you might be able to tell from
- 0:33my voice, but I didn't want to not bring you guys an episode.
- 0:37I feel like fine enough to bring you guys an episode.
- 0:39But if you do listen on YouTube, I'm going to upload this
- 0:41recording to YouTube, but you'll notice there's no video because
- 0:45I'm in bed. So this is audio only today.
- 0:48Anyways, let's just get right into the stories for today.
- 0:51So the first Ray that I have for you guys is that Huddy has
- 0:54exposed the Hype House and just claiming that he made no money
- 0:58from the experience. TikTok star Chase Hudson sat
- 1:02down for a new interview on the Zack Sang Show this week and
- 1:05exposed what it was really like to be part of the Hype House.
- 1:08When asked about his experience, Huddy said he had strong
- 1:11friendships with everybody, but it was hard because they were
- 1:14all competing with each other in a sense.
- 1:16He also said that when he needed them to support his music, they
- 1:19weren't there for him. Zach then said he feels like
- 1:22none of them are relevant anymore, which was so savage.
- 1:26Zach was actually being like so savage about these people.
- 1:28I feel like when Zach interviews influencers or people that, you
- 1:32know, he can kind of like chat with in a more casual sense,
- 1:34like, you know, he always interviews like really big
- 1:36celebrities. Not always, but like a lot of
- 1:38the time. And I'm sure that they have so
- 1:40many, so much red tape around them.
- 1:42I feel like he kind of gets a little bit savage in his
- 1:45interviews, which is awesome. So he literally said he doesn't
- 1:47think that anyone that's in the hype house anymore is relevant.
- 1:50And he said that it looked like a giant scam, to which Huddy
- 1:53said he made $0.00 from the hype house.
- 1:56He claimed that he made no money from any of the group brand
- 1:59deals like their Target sponsorship and any of the merch
- 2:01sales, despite the fact that all of them had like their own
- 2:04discount code that they were pushing.
- 2:06He also said he made no money from their Adsense.
- 2:08Like, none of that was split. Zach also didn't have great
- 2:11things to say about Hype House founder and manager Thomas
- 2:14Petrou. For anyone that doesn't know or
- 2:17doesn't remember, Thomas briefly lived at the Team 10 house back
- 2:21in 2019, and he basically wanted to start his own version of that
- 2:25with Tik Tokers. Yeah, like it just looked like
- 2:27an older guy taking blatant advantage of a bunch of younger
- 2:32people who had looks and talent that he didn't have.
- 2:36So I feel like this is TI mean. I know that Alex Warren came out
- 2:39last year and said that he made no money from the hype house,
- 2:42but I think it's crazy to think about how quickly the hype house
- 2:48exploded and then absolutely fell apart.
- 2:51Like those kids literally ruled TikTok and were like the biggest
- 2:56stars on the Internet for about a year there.
- 2:59And now, I mean, it is kind of what Zach said.
- 3:02Like they're kind of irrelevant, like what is going on with them.
- 3:05But yeah, the interview was T there was about 5 minutes where
- 3:08they talked about the hype house.
- 3:09And I recommend going to watch it.
- 3:11All right, the next way that I have for you guys is that Jeff
- 3:14Wittek has publicly called out Snapchat for continuing to
- 3:17support David Dobrik. So in a tweet posted yesterday,
- 3:22Jeff wrote, yo, at Snapchat, you're paying a guy that smashed
- 3:26my skull in for a prank and left me with lifelong injuries.
- 3:29He also filmed and organized multiple sexual assaults.
- 3:33That's why I stopped posting. I don't want blood money.
- 3:37So this tweet seemed to come out of nowhere.
- 3:40It could be because he's been, you know, approached by Snapchat
- 3:44on and off of them being like, why aren't you posting?
- 3:47Or like, do you want to get into our creator program or whatever?
- 3:49But it seemed like unprovoked and then Snapchat responded, but
- 3:53it's obviously just their like general bot, like their
- 3:56automated bot that said hi, can you please send us Adm so we
- 3:59could try to help? And then Jeff responded, his
- 4:02name is David Dobrik and he's traveling the world partying on
- 4:05your dime while I have another surgery next month.
- 4:08So obviously what Jeff is talking about is the excavator
- 4:10accident that happened. David was driving an excavator.
- 4:14It was like a prank that they were doing for the vlog, for
- 4:16David's blog, and Jeff was swinging off of it and he
- 4:20crashed the excavator and Jeff essentially almost died from his
- 4:24injuries. So post cancellation, which, you
- 4:27know, the excavator was kind of part of it, that whole accident
- 4:31and how David handled that. But it was also very much around
- 4:33the fact that David fostered this environment that enabled
- 4:38sexual assault, the the sexual assault of a young woman by one
- 4:41of his friends, Dom. So David has really pulled back
- 4:44from social media since then, except for Snapchat, where he
- 4:48does post multiple times a day. This is all part of a larger
- 4:51plan from Snapchat. So it was reported a couple
- 4:54years ago that Snapchat was pouring money into paying huge
- 4:58creators to post like literally 30 times a day on their
- 5:01platform. And Bryce Hall even said that
- 5:04last year Snapchat was his biggest source of income, if
- 5:07that gives you any perspective. I know Bryce Hall also might be
- 5:10like not super relevant anymore, but he's like a huge influencer
- 5:14and the fact that Snapchat was his biggest source of income,
- 5:16not, you know, Adsense or his brand deals or whatever, is wild
- 5:21to put into perspective. In replying to the comments,
- 5:23Jeff indicated that David is only on Snapchat now because
- 5:27there is no comment section. And I mean, that's not really
- 5:31that surprising. That's actually a huge reason
- 5:32why people like Snapchat is because it isn't really like
- 5:37social media. Like it's more about like
- 5:38connecting with your friends. And that's why young people love
- 5:40it, right? It's like, you open it, You
- 5:42don't open it to a news feed where you can just end up like
- 5:44scrolling mindlessly for hours. You open it to your face.
- 5:48It's all about sending your friends photos and videos and
- 5:51messages. And there isn't a comment
- 5:53section as this user said. So it's a much more positive
- 5:57place. However, Jeff did get some
- 5:59backlash for tweeting all of this.
- 6:01Lots of people are saying that he's just looking for clout and
- 6:04he needs to let it go at this point.
- 6:06I mean, I don't think he's necessarily looking for clout.
- 6:10I understand he just has a lot of like pent up anger.
- 6:12And I would too, like so much resentment, I'm sure towards
- 6:15David and like what happened to him and he's just kind of
- 6:18dealing with it. But I do agree, like, we've
- 6:21heard his side, his perspective for a long time now, and he's
- 6:25publicly out here kind of talking about it constantly.
- 6:28So I understand for some people it might feel like he's riding
- 6:32this out and like, really milking it.
- 6:35But I'm going to choose to believe that.
- 6:36Like, it's just a very difficult thing to process.
- 6:39Like his best friend put him in such extreme harm's way for his
- 6:43best friend's vlog, you know, like, for content that David was
- 6:47going to make money from. And he didn't really seem to
- 6:52care that he almost killed Jeff. And that would be a difficult
- 6:56thing to grapple with. All right, And the last story
- 6:58that I have for you guys, this is so unhinged.
- 7:02I don't even know how to like introduce this.
- 7:05So this is like a meme heavy week for sure.
- 7:09The latest meme to come out of TikTok.
- 7:11The latest viral video, I should say to come out of TikTok is one
- 7:16Big Ass Wheat or as it's known by its acronym now OBAW.
- 7:22So if you are seeing the acronym OBAW all over social media, it
- 7:25stands for one Big Ass Weed and this is the latest viral TikTok
- 7:29video. I feel like I can't even keep up
- 7:32with all the virality on TikTok with all the funny things that
- 7:35are happening on TikTok. But I really wanted to share
- 7:37this because I feel like if you are in social media or
- 7:41marketing, this is a really easy and fast trend to jump on like
- 7:45right now. So basically it's just this
- 7:47video of this woman walking up to shredded wheat cereal.
- 7:52But like the big ones, like obviously not like the little
- 7:55baby little shredded wheats, like the big like full ones,
- 7:58full size ones and saying hold on hold.
- 8:00On hold on, is this one big ass wheat?
- 8:03When they started making one big ass wheat?
- 8:06What the fuck? So I feel like if you work in
- 8:09social or marketing for FMCG where you sell cereal or even if
- 8:13you sell food or like anything that comes in like a jumbo size,
- 8:17like you need to use the sound ASAP.
- 8:18It's everywhere. The video has 15,000,000 views.
- 8:21People are making acronyms out of it.
- 8:22There's a hashtag. Like people are obsessed with
- 8:25this video because it's so freaking funny.
- 8:27So for example, you know how like baby bell cheese, this kind
- 8:30of went viral on TikTok a while ago.
- 8:32But like baby bell cheese is obviously like small, right?
- 8:34Like the little small cheeses, there's a big cheese baby bell
- 8:37cheese is based on one big wheel of cheese and someone posted
- 8:41about that on TikTok and everybody was like, what the
- 8:43fuck? So I feel like that's a good
- 8:44example where you could use this sound even though cheese is
- 8:48obviously not wheat or cereal, but it like applies to it,
- 8:52right? If your brand sells something in
- 8:55a jumbo size of what it's known for, use this sound to show it.
- 8:59It's like honestly a 5 second sound.
- 9:02It's such an easy video and I feel like you need to use the
- 9:04acronym somewhere in your caption or on the video itself
- 9:08in text to show that, you know, because it's like that's the
- 9:11acronym that lets everybody know, like you know, you know.
- 9:14OK anyways guys, thank you for listening to Mini Scroll today.
- 9:19Sorry that there's no video, but I will be back tomorrow with a
- 9:22regular deep dive, which will of course have a video.

- 9:29you so much for listening. Please remember to rate, review
