- 0:30Speaker 1: sign up. UnleashProsperity.com. Steve Moore, how are you doing?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Mark, doing pretty well. You know, we have our news.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I've got a question for you. Do you know what
- 0:43Speaker 2: state has the fourth highest cost of living?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Fourth highest. Fourth highest cost of living. Well, I imagine
- 0:54Speaker 1: number one and two is New York and California. Number three, Illinois.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Number four, I don't know. You're pretty close, my friend. Actually,
- 1:04Speaker 2: New York is fourth. Hawaii and California are ahead of
- 1:07Speaker 2: New York and I think Massachusetts. But, yeah. Believe it
- 1:10Speaker 2: or not. But what's funny about this– Yeah, well, you know, because,
- 1:16Speaker 2: by the way, you could understand why costs would be
- 1:18Speaker 2: high in Hawaii, because you have to ship everything to
- 1:19Speaker 2: Rhode Island. That increases costs. But, you know, what's New
- 1:23Speaker 2: York's excuse? And I bring that up because what's the
- 1:25Speaker 2: big issue of the day today? The big A word, affordability.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Affordability, yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all the Democrats talk about. Affordability. Trump is
- 1:33Speaker 2: not making anything affordable. Well, then you look at the
- 1:35Speaker 2: 50 states, and the five states with the highest cost
- 1:38Speaker 2: of living and the least affordability are New York, you know, Hawaii, California,
- 1:43Speaker 2: New Jersey, and Massachusetts. And the five states with the
- 1:46Speaker 2: most affordability and the lowest cost are, let's see, Alabama, Oklahoma, Idaho, Arkansas,
- 1:53Speaker 2: and Utah. So it turns out there's almost a direct correlation.
- 1:58Speaker 2: The more democratic a state is in terms of their
- 2:01Speaker 2: control of their legislature and governorship, the more likely they
- 2:06Speaker 2: have out-of-control costs.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Well, that's why we get people here in New York
- 2:10Speaker 1: who say, I'm paying so much for gas because of Iran.
- 2:13Speaker 1: They don't realize it's because of the whole call. It's
- 2:15Speaker 1: because of the state legislature that you're paying more in
- 2:18Speaker 1: New York because it's New York and you've got taxes.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Exactly. Yep, yep, yep. The same thing, by the way,
- 2:23Speaker 2: California pays about $ 6 a gallon for gas. They pay
- 2:27Speaker 2: $ 1. 50 more than the national average because of all the
- 2:30Speaker 2: regulations and taxes.
- 2:33Speaker 1: And a lot of this is green scheme stuff where
- 2:35Speaker 1: it drives up the price of gas. But you wrote
- 2:38Speaker 1: about that yesterday. They call it the green scheme, but
- 2:42Speaker 1: it really was because a lot of people profiteered off it,
- 2:44Speaker 1: didn't they?
- 2:46Speaker 2: Boy, it's amazing how many people got rich. It's a
- 2:49Speaker 2: green scheme, and the green is money, not green environmental policy,
- 2:53Speaker 2: and people did get rich. We spent hundreds and hundreds
- 2:57Speaker 2: of billions of dollars on these programs. And a lot
- 2:59Speaker 2: of it just went into the bank accounts of liberal activists,
- 3:02Speaker 2: some of these liberal hedge funds. Right on the week
- 3:07Speaker 2: or two before Biden left office, they approved a multibillion-dollar
- 3:13Speaker 2: giveaway of basically money to all the green groups. Lord
- 3:17Speaker 2: knows what they did with the money. They didn't exactly
- 3:19Speaker 2: change the temperature of the planet.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Hey, and if you believe in windmills or whatever it is,
- 3:25Speaker 1: all you have to do is watch Europe. who tried
- 3:28Speaker 1: it for a couple years. What was the result when
- 3:30Speaker 1: they tried it?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually a tragedy. You know what country moved
- 3:37Speaker 2: most aggressively to the green energy stuff?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Was it Germany?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, Germany. Germany was, throughout the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s,
- 3:47Speaker 2: we always talked about German manufacturing and they had the
- 3:50Speaker 2: Mercedes-Benz and were one of the lead industrial countries. And Germany,
- 3:57Speaker 2: by switching from natural gas and oil and coal to windmills,
- 4:01Speaker 2: they basically deindustrialized that country. It's actually very sad. Most
- 4:06Speaker 2: of the companies that made stuff in Germany either folded
- 4:10Speaker 2: or moved out.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And didn't they have to start tearing down those windmills
- 4:14Speaker 1: because they just didn't provide enough to meet anything?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, who would have ever thought using 15th century energy
- 4:20Speaker 2: wasn't going to work very well? But, you know, it's true,
- 4:25Speaker 2: and they really now, they're finally saying, maybe we better
- 4:29Speaker 2: go back to using natural gas. By the way, you know, coal,
- 4:32Speaker 2: we do have clean coal in this country, and we
- 4:34Speaker 2: should rebuild our coal plants because we're going to need
- 4:37Speaker 2: a lot more energy in the future. And we do
- 4:39Speaker 2: have the cleanest coal in the world. While China's building
- 4:41Speaker 2: 100 new coal plants, we shut ours down. But natural gas...
- 4:46Speaker 2: That's the cleanest energy you can have. And they stopped
- 4:49Speaker 2: using natural gas.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And nuclear energy, also very clean.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Right. And so nuclear, you know, I'm one of these
- 4:56Speaker 2: people who just says, look, let's get the first of all,
- 4:58Speaker 2: let's get the government out of the way. And let's
- 5:00Speaker 2: just use whatever energy makes sense. Now, look, if you
- 5:03Speaker 2: live in Phoenix, Arizona. Yes, solar power probably makes a
- 5:08Speaker 2: lot of sense. The sun is 110 degrees there with
- 5:12Speaker 2: a blazing sun, so you can capture a lot of energy.
- 5:14Speaker 2: But I don't think New York gets a lot of
- 5:16Speaker 2: energy from solar power. So you can use these things,
- 5:21Speaker 2: but they're niche levels of power. So, for example, after
- 5:24Speaker 2: spending hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars... on windmills
- 5:28Speaker 2: and solar panels, today we get maybe 5% or 6%
- 5:31Speaker 2: of our energy from wind and solar. So it's a
- 5:35Speaker 2: very poor source of energy. We still get most of
- 5:39Speaker 2: our energy from, you know, about 75%. And you still
- 5:44Speaker 2: have these nitwits out there saying, zero fossil fuels, get
- 5:47Speaker 2: rid of energy. Well, how are we going to? Our factories,
- 5:51Speaker 2: our schools, our data centers, our, you know, the Internet.
- 5:54Speaker 2: How would you power that without energy that works?
- 5:58Speaker 1: Hey, Steve Moore, explain the battle with Canada. What are
- 6:01Speaker 1: we fighting over? I mean, they were kind of unfair
- 6:04Speaker 1: with their tariffs, weren't they?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but, you know, we have something in our hotline today.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I hope all your listeners are getting that. Just go
- 6:11Speaker 2: to UnleashPosperity.com and you get it for free. It's a
- 6:14Speaker 2: free newsletter every morning. It's a bad fight for Trump
- 6:18Speaker 2: to pick right now. I don't think he should have
- 6:20Speaker 2: picked this fight. Canada is our most important trading partner.
- 6:23Speaker 2: By the way, a lot of people don't realize that
- 6:26Speaker 2: Canada and Mexico are our two biggest trading partners, much
- 6:28Speaker 2: more so than China. I bet if you asked the person,
- 6:31Speaker 2: people on the street, who do we trade most with,
- 6:32Speaker 2: I think most people would say China. I would have
- 6:34Speaker 2: said that. myself until I looked at the numbers. So China,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I mean, Canada, Mexico are really critical trading partners for
- 6:42Speaker 2: the United States. We all benefit. I've always loved that
- 6:45Speaker 2: idea of North America, you know, down to the furthest
- 6:48Speaker 2: South in Mexico, up to the furthest North in Canada
- 6:51Speaker 2: being a, you know, a free trade zone where we
- 6:53Speaker 2: dominate the world in terms of agriculture, energy, and technology.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So I think these tariffs are a mistake. And I
- 7:02Speaker 2: think we should, you know, because, you know, you have tariffs,
- 7:05Speaker 2: That's not going to make things cheaper here in the
- 7:07Speaker 2: United States. It's going to add to costs. So hopefully
- 7:10Speaker 2: we get this thing resolved. But it is true that,
- 7:12Speaker 2: you know, Trump is right that Canada does cheat on
- 7:14Speaker 2: some of these deals. And they do impose very high
- 7:16Speaker 2: tariffs on our agriculture and our farmers and our dairy farmers,
- 7:20Speaker 2: et cetera. So he wants a better deal. I just
- 7:23Speaker 2: don't think right now is probably the best time for this.
- 7:25Speaker 2: All right.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But we've got to stop. When it comes to Trump,
- 7:27Speaker 1: we love him. But you've got to stop saying, I
- 7:29Speaker 1: wish you wouldn't pick this fight. He picks every fight.
- 7:32Speaker 1: He'll have a thousand fights going at once. That's just
- 7:34Speaker 1: his style.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And that's, you know, that's the old saying, you never
- 7:37Speaker 2: want to fight a multi. You know, that's, I think,
- 7:39Speaker 2: what the Germans and all these other countries have learned over.
- 7:42Speaker 2: You know, you want to you don't want to have
- 7:44Speaker 2: a multi front, you know, war either with weapons or
- 7:49Speaker 2: in trade at the same time. And so but look,
- 7:52Speaker 2: the economy, I've got to say this loud and clear
- 7:54Speaker 2: on your show. I said it on Kudlow's show last night.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I mean, the American economy is the best in the world. Now,
- 7:59Speaker 2: do we have problems? Yes. Is inflation too high? Yes, absolutely.
- 8:02Speaker 2: We're now running at 3.5%. We've got to get it
- 8:04Speaker 2: boiled down to less than 1.5%. But every country in
- 8:08Speaker 2: the world would gladly trade places with the United States.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I mean, we have record high stock market. We've got
- 8:14Speaker 2: more jobs available than people to fill them. How about
- 8:18Speaker 2: the fact crime is down? in virtually every major city,
- 8:22Speaker 2: thanks to Trump's tough-on-crime stance. I mean, I could go
- 8:25Speaker 2: on and on. There's a lot going well in the
- 8:27Speaker 2: United States, but the media just never reports it.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah, well, they report the opposite. Economic crisis and affordability crisis.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you'd think we were in a Great Depression or
- 8:35Speaker 2: something like that if you watched the CNN and so on.
- 8:38Speaker 2: And yet, you know, by the way, incomes have been
- 8:40Speaker 2: growing faster, just except for the last couple months where
- 8:43Speaker 2: we saw a pickup in inflation. Most American families actually
- 8:47Speaker 2: have more income disposable income than they had before Trump
- 8:52Speaker 2: was elected. So even that idea that, oh, nobody can
- 8:55Speaker 2: afford everything. Well, the average family in the United States
- 8:58Speaker 2: is struggling, obviously, to pay some of these bills. I mean,
- 9:01Speaker 2: ground beef. Have you tried to buy a hamburger lately?
- 9:04Speaker 2: You know, those costs are high. But we're doing well.
- 9:07Speaker 2: We're outcompeting our neighbors. And the worst possible thing to
- 9:11Speaker 2: do would be elect a bunch of Democrat socialists that
- 9:14Speaker 2: are going to raise taxes on everybody. Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Well, Steve Moore, great stuff. Hey, everybody, sign up for
- 9:18Speaker 1: his daily briefing. It's really good. It's a very important
