- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon, listeners. Thank you so much for listening
- 0:03Speaker 1: to Lament of Hope podcast. As you guys know, we
- 0:07Speaker 1: are nearing our 300th episode, which is amazing. And so
- 0:12Speaker 1: many people from around the world with different struggles and stories.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And it's all because of you guys and your support.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So I'm super grateful. I feel like I have to
- 0:21Speaker 1: say that every time I start because I just it
- 0:23Speaker 1: always blows me away when I think about it.
- 0:26Speaker 2: I became very depressed. I started for the first time
- 0:29Speaker 2: in my life having anxiety attacks and it was, it
- 0:33Speaker 2: was really horrific. Uh, but at the end of the video,
- 0:36Speaker 2: I was talking to her about how, you know, there's
- 0:38Speaker 2: so many days where I just wanted to go to
- 0:43Speaker 2: sleep and just not wake up until it was over. Uh,
- 0:48Speaker 2: but that I would still choose it every single day.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I would choose to still fight and to be alive and,
- 0:56Speaker 2: to push to see what could happen tomorrow.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Well, I want to ask you because people might say, well,
- 1:06Speaker 1: then you weren't really depressed because if you're really depressed,
- 1:09Speaker 1: you don't want to, you don't care about tomorrow. You
- 1:12Speaker 1: don't have any hope for tomorrow. But, you know, you're
- 1:17Speaker 1: sharing with me, no, I really was depressed and there
- 1:19Speaker 1: were days I just wanted to be done with the
- 1:23Speaker 1: pain and wake up when the pain was over, but
- 1:28Speaker 1: you still valued life to such an extent that you
- 1:30Speaker 1: didn't want to die. And why do you think that is?
- 1:35Speaker 1: Because most, many individuals with depression, very bad depression would say,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you know, they've seriously considered just going. They don't really
- 1:44Speaker 1: care about tomorrow. You know, tomorrow's a numbness.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah. It's, um, It is such a dark place to
- 2:01Speaker 2: be when you feel that way. And the lack of
- 2:06Speaker 2: hope that some people experience is.
- 2:15Speaker 2: There aren't words for it. But there are resources. there
- 2:23Speaker 2: are people that will come and that will sit and
- 2:27Speaker 2: that will encourage and stay with you in that dark place.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And I think that's what continuously gave me hope is
- 2:36Speaker 2: that I would get through these periods where you just
- 2:41Speaker 2: felt like it was never ending, uh, But I would
- 2:50Speaker 2: have these reminders that there can be an end and
- 2:58Speaker 2: that there have been dark places and that we can
- 3:00Speaker 2: come out of those places and still get there. I
- 3:05Speaker 2: have never tried to take my own life. I have
- 3:11Speaker 2: never gotten to that point. I do have some people
- 3:17Speaker 2: that I love very dearly who have. and talking to
- 3:24Speaker 2: them about it. And everyone that I've talked to, it's
- 3:32Speaker 2: been this relief that what they had attempted wasn't successful
- 3:42Speaker 2: because there's something else. And luckily they have people around
- 3:46Speaker 2: them to get them the help that they needed at
- 3:50Speaker 2: the time to help them survive those attempts and things.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And I think that one of the, well, not one
- 4:03Speaker 2: of the, I think the largest danger we have with
- 4:06Speaker 2: physician-assisted suicide is that we are taking away the opportunity
- 4:15Speaker 2: to provide hope. You know, we have never been a
- 4:20Speaker 2: people to support people taking their lives. You know, if
- 4:26Speaker 2: you find out we've mandated reporters and people that watch
- 4:30Speaker 2: for this kind of a thing. And if we find
- 4:35Speaker 2: out that somebody is suicidal, we call, we get them help.
- 4:38Speaker 2: We get 911. They take them. They put them in
- 4:41Speaker 2: the hospital.
