Latest / Stugotz and Company / Set 2: Favorite Cut of Meat (w/ Gojo)
Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 0:21Speaker 2: There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that shocked me
- 0:24Speaker 2: more than driving in this morning and listening to Mike
- 0:26Speaker 2: Golick Sr. and Mike Golick Jr. breaking down books and authors.
- 0:31Speaker 2: The Golicks, 10 to noon on ESPN Radio. And that's
- 0:35Speaker 2: how we fill time before football starts.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Hello, Mike.
- 0:39Speaker 4: You're exactly right. Good chance to revisit.
- 0:42Speaker 5: One of the authors that impacted me most, not because
- 0:45Speaker 5: I read them, but because I saw his books all
- 0:48Speaker 5: over my house in a day and age before smartphones
- 0:53Speaker 5: and tablets made it so you could watch TV and
- 0:55Speaker 5: movies on planes. My dad would read nothing but Clive
- 0:59Speaker 5: Cussler books, which all just had old wooden ships.
- 1:03Speaker 4: On the front. that were littered all over our house.
- 1:05Speaker 4: That was how he entertained himself on the flight to Gaines.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Mikey A., why are you laughing? It's just funny. It's
- 1:12Speaker 3: a funny topic for the Goliks to be discussing.
- 1:15Speaker 1: The Goliks talking books is like my kids talking about
- 1:19Speaker 1: nuclear physics.
- 1:20Speaker 6: Like, it just, like, wait a minute.
- 1:23Speaker 1: What do you guys really know?
- 1:24Speaker 3: I will tell you that order was restored.
- 1:26Speaker 2: A couple of minutes later, they were talking bacon, egg,
- 1:29Speaker 2: and cheeses and best cuts of steak.
- 1:31Speaker 3: How about that?
- 1:32Speaker 5: It's a little more on brand. I will have you know,
- 1:36Speaker 5: it was sort of a New Year's resolution. I have
- 1:38Speaker 5: read a book every month so far this year, which
- 1:41Speaker 5: is a pace that I have usually never been able.
- 1:43Speaker 4: To keep up. Wow.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Have you been able to find Waldo every time?
- 1:46Speaker 5: Some of these new books, they really make it tough.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I'm still trying to finish my book.
- 1:53Speaker 5: The last one I had had one of the scratch
- 1:55Speaker 5: and sniff pads on it so you could smell the book.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Right. What is your favorite cut of steak?
- 2:01Speaker 2: We'll get to the bacon, egg, and cheese in just
- 2:03Speaker 2: a second because I cannot believe that Kimberly Martin said that.
- 2:07Speaker 3: She's never had a bacon, egg.
- 2:08Speaker 4: And cheese before.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Like, what are you doing?
- 2:11Speaker 4: She said she doesn't like cheese with her eggs.
- 2:13Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yes, the steak cuts.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yes. I mean, cheese and eggs go hand in hand.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Do they not?
- 2:18Speaker 4: You would think.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yes. What's your steak cut?
- 2:23Speaker 5: I said if I'm going out, because I haven't cooked
- 2:25Speaker 5: a lot of steak at home. This all came up
- 2:27Speaker 5: because I am making steaks for me and the missus tonight.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:29Speaker 4: But when I go out.
- 2:31Speaker 5: The cowboy ribeye at Ruth's Chris is like always the
- 2:34Speaker 5: one I think of because that was the one we'd
- 2:35Speaker 5: go to most often. There aren't many steakhouses in South Bend.
- 2:38Speaker 5: So you get the cowboy ribeye there or like a
- 2:41Speaker 5: nice New York strip because it's especially the ribeye. Good
- 2:43Speaker 5: enough cut, good marbling, but also.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Big, a lot of oomph to it. And I like
- 2:48Speaker 4: to leave feeling painfully full when I go to a steakhouse.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Taylor, what's your favorite cut of steak?
- 2:54Speaker 6: I don't really know different cuts of steak. Right.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Steak is steak.
- 2:57Speaker 6: New York strip steak.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Skinny man.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Freaking skinny man. You put a steak in front of me,
- 3:01Speaker 3: I'm going to eat it.
- 3:02Speaker 6: I'm not going out of my way to ask for
- 3:03Speaker 6: a particular cut or anything.
- 3:05Speaker 3: There's a big difference between a ribeye and a sirloin.
- 3:09Speaker 6: I know filet. I know New York strip steak.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Yep. Mikey, this is your wheelhouse. What do you got?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm going to go off board a little
- 3:18Speaker 1: bit because ribeye is the easy answer, and I do
- 3:20Speaker 1: love a ribeye. But if you can do this one right,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I don't think there's anything better. A good skirt steak.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Wow. Pretty good. Yes.
- 3:28Speaker 4: If you can do right because you have to do
- 3:30Speaker 4: it right. You really got to put the right preparation
- 3:33Speaker 4: in that. Yes.
- 3:35Speaker 3: How do you guys feel about a porterhouse? I mean.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Porterhouse is nice.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Right. It's two different cuts. I understand.
- 3:42Speaker 2: It's strip and filet with a bone. I get it sliced.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I get a porterhouse for two just for me. It's
- 3:48Speaker 2: absolutely delightful.
- 3:50Speaker 4: That's always the move because it's always a porterhouse for two.
- 3:54Speaker 6: I am now realizing that I have meat blindness. Like,
- 3:57Speaker 6: if you put a ribeye steak in front of me,
- 3:59Speaker 6: a T-bone steak in front of me, a porterhouse, I
- 4:02Speaker 6: wouldn't be able to tell you a who's who of meats.
- 4:06Speaker 4: I could do it on smell.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 5: You should just go to the blindfold and just put
- 4:13Speaker 5: one of those cardboard boxes in front of them with
- 4:15Speaker 5: just a hole for him.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Taylor just goes to those Brazilian steakhouses and just has
- 4:21Speaker 2: his thing on green.
- 4:22Speaker 3: You know, I don't care. Go ahead.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So we did the Brazilian steakhouse for our big Fox party. Uh,
- 4:31Speaker 1: when we were all at the Superbowl and everybody was
- 4:34Speaker 1: in awe on how I would send some of them away.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I'm like, no, no, no, no.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I'm waiting for the picanha. I'm not sitting here. I'm
- 4:40Speaker 1: not wasting my time on your sirloin. I'm not sitting there. Filet,
- 4:44Speaker 1: get that out of here. No, I'm waiting for the picanha.
- 4:46Speaker 1: And they're like, you just don't get everything when it comes.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm like, amateurs they're here to change box for the better.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Right give me the good steak there's only so much
- 4:56Speaker 2: room in this belly a.
- 4:57Speaker 6: Fogo to chow hates to see mikey a coming.
- 5:01Speaker 5: A fogo to chow is the only place where i
- 5:04Speaker 5: get the meat sweats at the table yes like it
- 5:06Speaker 5: doesn't have to wait till later.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Pre-meal end of the meal yes you're.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Just absolutely leaking all over the.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Scene uh taylor how'd you phrase that joke.
- 5:15Speaker 6: Right there A Fogo to Chow hates to see Mikey
- 5:18Speaker 6: A coming.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Put it on the poll.
- 5:20Speaker 2: At Stukat790 at X, does a Fogo to Chow hate
- 5:26Speaker 2: seeing Mikey A coming?
- 5:28Speaker 3: They do. I am with you. So you're cooking steaks.
- 5:31Speaker 3: What are you doing here? So a whole different strategy
- 5:33Speaker 3: for you because this.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Is the first football season you enter as an engaged man.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And so- Are you cooking steaks on the front end
- 5:42Speaker 3: to free up?
- 5:43Speaker 2: How are we navigating through the weekends with someone else
- 5:46Speaker 2: in the house who doesn't care about football nearly as
- 5:48Speaker 2: much as you?
- 5:49Speaker 5: Well, I am lucky in the fact that she at
- 5:51Speaker 5: least loves college football like I do. But this is
- 5:55Speaker 5: more of a makeup because I am absentee. She becomes
- 5:59Speaker 5: a football widow during the fall because I'm on the
- 6:01Speaker 5: road every weekend. So I leave Thursday to go to
- 6:04Speaker 5: whatever Big 12 city I'm calling a football game in.
- 6:07Speaker 5: And I either come back late Saturday night or early
- 6:10Speaker 5: Sunday morning. So I'm gone three to four days of
- 6:13Speaker 5: the week. And on all the weekends from Labor Day
- 6:16Speaker 5: weekend on, I am gone 13 straight weekends. And so
- 6:20Speaker 5: this is my like, I'm sorry for being gone and
- 6:24Speaker 5: for being hopelessly obsessed with some Wednesday night Mac game
- 6:27Speaker 5: that I'll.
- 6:27Speaker 4: For sure eschew plans.
- 6:29Speaker 5: That we might have made midweek because I have to
- 6:32Speaker 5: watch this for work.
- 6:35Speaker 3: It is a whole different game. I am so proud
- 6:37Speaker 3: of you.
- 6:38Speaker 6: Gojo, on the topic of food, yesterday we had a
- 6:40Speaker 6: pretty spirited debate on our Think About It Thursday.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Oh, we did.
- 6:44Speaker 6: It was one utensil for the rest of your life, fork, spoon,
- 6:48Speaker 6: or knife. Now, we had a bunch of people write
- 6:50Speaker 6: in on social media, spork, and just again, the choices
- 6:55Speaker 6: were fork, spoon, or knife.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Yeah, Greeny wanted to go spork, too.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I got to tell you, we talked to Greeny about
- 7:01Speaker 2: his 30 years at ESPN. And the only time he
- 7:05Speaker 2: lit up is when we asked him this question. I
- 7:07Speaker 2: have never seen him more engaged by anything in my
- 7:10Speaker 2: entire life.
- 7:10Speaker 3: So what do you think, Coach?
- 7:12Speaker 4: It's a great question, but I'm with you guys.
- 7:15Speaker 5: I don't like it when people all of a sudden
- 7:16Speaker 5: think they can just reframe the question and go off
- 7:19Speaker 5: board with something like a sport. It wasn't one of
- 7:22Speaker 5: the options presented, so we need to operate within these parameters.
- 7:26Speaker 4: It's a great question. I go back and forth on
- 7:29Speaker 4: this all.
- 7:29Speaker 5: The time because in a pinch, as a guy who
- 7:32Speaker 5: was single for a long time in my adult life,
- 7:35Speaker 5: I would do the thing where... You don't do all
- 7:37Speaker 5: the dishes right away. You're running low on silverware. And
- 7:40Speaker 5: so you've got one knife left and you just sort
- 7:43Speaker 5: of have to make it work. That being said, I
- 7:45Speaker 5: think the answer is spoon. Because I think you can
- 7:47Speaker 5: get away with shoveling most things that would.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Have required a fork.
- 7:51Speaker 5: It allows you to have the liquid element of a cereal,
- 7:54Speaker 5: a soup, things like that that you couldn't do with
- 7:57Speaker 5: the other ones. And still, if you work hard enough,
- 7:59Speaker 5: it's going to suck, but you can cut things and
- 8:02Speaker 5: operate with enough of that knife quality that you need.
- 8:05Speaker 4: So I think spoon's the answer.
- 8:07Speaker 6: So we put this on the poll yesterday, and the
- 8:10Speaker 6: early results are fork is 52.4%. Spoon is next at 37.2%. But, Gojo,
- 8:18Speaker 6: what I've noticed is the most vocal people about this
- 8:22Speaker 6: are the spoon people because they're arguing that a spoon
- 8:25Speaker 6: can do everything that the fork and the knife could
- 8:28Speaker 6: potentially do, and the other two don't have the same versatility.
- 8:31Speaker 6: Mikey A. was a spoon guy yesterday.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Yes.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yesterday I was, but I've woken up.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I've seen the light.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I've changed my answer.
- 8:40Speaker 4: And here's what it ultimately came down to.
- 8:43Speaker 2: He apologized to us last night via text in the
- 8:45Speaker 2: form of, I'm leaving the show, and it wasn't.
- 8:47Speaker 3: It was this. He was changing his opinion.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I soul-searched on this, and I've come up with this.
- 8:54Speaker 1: A knife is the only thing I can't do with
- 8:57Speaker 1: my hands. You give me a bowl of pasta, I
- 9:00Speaker 1: can pick up the pasta. I can eat it with
- 9:02Speaker 1: my hands. You give me a bowl of soup, I
- 9:03Speaker 1: can dip the bowl. I can't cut with my hands.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I can try and tear, but I can't.
- 9:09Speaker 6: I'm going knife.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yes, but Golik said you can cut with a spoon.
- 9:12Speaker 3: You said that yesterday.
- 9:16Speaker 6: Skirt steak doesn't cut very well with a.
- 9:18Speaker 3: A good one does, though.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Skirt steak you can do with your hands.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Probably.
- 9:21Speaker 4: If it's done right.
- 9:22Speaker 5: And if you cook it at the right temperature, you
- 9:24Speaker 5: should be able to get in there a little bit more.
- 9:26Speaker 5: As someone that's eaten steak with their hands before, you
- 9:29Speaker 5: have the power. I believe in you.
- 9:31Speaker 4: I know you... Maybe others couldn't do this. Mikey A.
- 9:34Speaker 4: in particular. I know you.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Are capable of this.
- 9:38Speaker 4: And remain married? Different story. I can't give you an
- 9:42Speaker 4: answer to that, but.
- 9:45Speaker 3: It's not a spoon, though. It's got to be... I mean,
- 9:47Speaker 3: it's got to be a fork. It just has to
- 9:49Speaker 3: be a fork. I mean, I'm sorry.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Like, a fork can cut through some meat, right? And
- 9:54Speaker 2: a fork you can basically eat everything with, right? Except
- 9:57Speaker 2: for cereal, I guess.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Well.
- 10:00Speaker 4: that's really what this comes down to.
- 10:01Speaker 3: For you, yes.
- 10:02Speaker 5: I have a feeling the spoon crowd is really pro
- 10:05Speaker 5: soup and cereal in ways that I am.
- 10:08Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:08Speaker 5: And if you're a fork or knifer, I'd imagine you're
- 10:11Speaker 5: getting a lot less of your diet in the bath.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:13Speaker 6: So, Stu, these are just some of the responses we
- 10:15Speaker 6: got on social media. Again, remember, fork is overwhelming the
- 10:21Speaker 6: other two options.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Right.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Somebody tweeted in, who are these fork idiots? Everything you
- 10:26Speaker 6: do with a fork, you could do with a spoon,
- 10:28Speaker 6: not vice versa. Another person writes in.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Focal minority. Fork you.
- 10:32Speaker 6: Another person writes in. How the bleep is fork beating spoon.
- 10:37Speaker 6: And then tough guy right here. Most valuable bowl writes in.
- 10:40Speaker 6: If you say anything but knife, you'll be dead in
- 10:43Speaker 6: three days.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Very polarizing. I'm telling you, man.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Walk me through that knife guy.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Walk me through how you're.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Going to be dead in three days.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Get knife guy on the show. Yeah, book him. Mikey,
- 11:00Speaker 2: we all experienced it the same way. Taylor sent me
- 11:03Speaker 2: the same text in quotes. I go back and forth
- 11:06Speaker 2: about this all the time. Do you really go, Joe?
- 11:12Speaker 5: Is this something you, I do think about this a
- 11:14Speaker 5: fair amount, not to like totally become a wife guy,
- 11:16Speaker 5: but she's much more pro spoon than I am in
- 11:19Speaker 5: much more circumstances than I usually do. So it's forced
- 11:23Speaker 5: me to consider, Hey, maybe have I gotten things wrong
- 11:26Speaker 5: about my utensil choice?
- 11:27Speaker 6: Gojo, this is similar to the, it was like a
- 11:30Speaker 6: social trend of a while ago where women were asking
- 11:34Speaker 6: their partners, how often do you think about the Roman empire?
- 11:38Speaker 6: And the answers were shocking them because it's, Men were
- 11:41Speaker 6: coming back saying, probably once a week or at least
- 11:43Speaker 6: once a month, and they just couldn't comprehend it. But
- 11:47Speaker 6: this is another situation where if you're a male, you've
- 11:51Speaker 6: at least given this question some thought.
- 11:53Speaker 1: 100%.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Because usually the male line of thinking is.
- 11:59Speaker 5: If you're someone looking in from a woman's perspective, think
- 12:02Speaker 5: of the dumbest thing that you'd never possibly think of,
- 12:06Speaker 5: and we've given it way more thought than normal because
- 12:09Speaker 5: it's just more fun than anything else. Life is hard.
- 12:12Speaker 5: Things are complicated. The world's constantly changing. But this dumbass
- 12:16Speaker 5: stuff with your boys after a round of golf in
- 12:19Speaker 5: the clubhouse is mana from heaven. It's what keeps you going.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Go, Joe.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I am so tired of attorneys. I am tired of lawsuits.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I just want to see some football. We'll see it
- 12:42Speaker 2: this weekend. Week zero kicks off. But I am wondering,
- 12:45Speaker 2: if you, Mike Golda Jr., declared for the NFL draft,
- 12:48Speaker 2: and this was all going on at the time when
- 12:51Speaker 2: you were playing, would you have gone back to college?
- 12:54Speaker 3: Would you have tried to go back to college?
- 12:56Speaker 5: I mean, with how much they're paying even middle of
- 12:59Speaker 5: the pack guys at this point, probably.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Because, I mean, my thing always as a player was
- 13:04Speaker 5: I was way too self-aware of my own limitations. So
- 13:07Speaker 5: I knew going to the NFL was a long shot
- 13:10Speaker 5: based on my trajectory, my physical profile, all that stuff.
- 13:13Speaker 5: And so you combine that with an actual monetary value
- 13:17Speaker 5: for me in college at a place that might have
- 13:19Speaker 5: now Notre Dame, it may have been tough because the
- 13:22Speaker 5: group of offensive linemen coming after me were really good players.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Sure.
- 13:26Speaker 5: I went back there years later and saw Quentin Nelson,
- 13:28Speaker 5: Mike McGlinchey in the weight room. And I said, oh,
- 13:30Speaker 5: there's no way I would have seen the field in
- 13:32Speaker 5: this era of Notre Dame football.
- 13:33Speaker 4: So maybe it wouldn't have been there.
- 13:35Speaker 5: But I do feel for this class in particular because
- 13:40Speaker 5: they were put in a bad position through no fault
- 13:42Speaker 5: of their own at a time where, hey, you have
- 13:46Speaker 5: more value than ever at a level of football that.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Might be your peak.
- 13:49Speaker 5: That's where most of these guys are going to top
- 13:51Speaker 5: out and there won't be an NFL future. So, yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 5: I don't really fault these guys for trying.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Gojo, with the SEC coming out against it, the Big
- 13:58Speaker 6: Ten coming out against it, We were joking yesterday saying
- 14:02Speaker 6: that the Sunbelt Conference's motto should be that we'll take
- 14:05Speaker 6: the NFL players. And then yesterday, the Big East kind
- 14:09Speaker 6: of came out and said, we're not ruling against NBA
- 14:12Speaker 6: players coming back to the Big East.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Oh, I'm so proud of them. Yes.
- 14:17Speaker 4: And honestly, this might be the best thing for everyone.
- 14:21Speaker 5: Because with all the court rulings that came out, one
- 14:24Speaker 5: of the core things that was– deemed true by enough
- 14:28Speaker 5: people in court to help out is conferences are still
- 14:31Speaker 5: allowed to make their own rules. Remember, that was the
- 14:33Speaker 5: crux of what happened with Brendan Sorsby. They tried to
- 14:36Speaker 5: get him on the field and the conference said no.
- 14:39Speaker 5: The Texas State Attorney General was like, I'll sue the conference.
- 14:44Speaker 5: And they're like, we're allowed to make rules. This is ridiculous.
- 14:47Speaker 5: And everyone agreed. And in this same case, you're usually
- 14:50Speaker 5: allowed to do that. But when all the conferences started
- 14:52Speaker 5: coming out and saying, yeah, we're not going to allow
- 14:55Speaker 5: it either, that looks like antitrust issues potentially to a
- 14:58Speaker 5: court was the concern I saw from some people. So
- 15:01Speaker 5: the Big East taking one for the team, actually, by
- 15:04Speaker 5: then going and still making their basketball conference maybe better
- 15:07Speaker 5: than others, is the headiest play, maybe the most Stugatzian move,
- 15:12Speaker 5: but also one that might be legally kind of helpful.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yep. You're not going to be surprised if Lane Kiffin
- 15:17Speaker 2: is recruiting at NFL minicamps, right?
- 15:21Speaker 5: I do want to know because Lane Kiffin claims he
- 15:24Speaker 5: didn't call Todd Munkin. I want to know who was
- 15:28Speaker 5: calling Todd.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Munkin then on that day.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Todd Munkin, from what we know about him, doesn't seem
- 15:33Speaker 5: like the kind of guy that's just like making this
- 15:35Speaker 5: up or doing this for fun. So did he just
- 15:38Speaker 5: get got because he's probably closer to my dad's age
- 15:40Speaker 5: than he is to my age? Like, is he maybe
- 15:42Speaker 5: just confused by a call coming in? Was this AI slop?
- 15:45Speaker 5: I need to know more about that phone call.
- 15:48Speaker 3: What are you excited about?
- 15:49Speaker 2: Taylor gave us a top five games for week zero.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I don't care about any of them. I can't wait
- 15:56Speaker 3: until next weekend, although it'll be fun this weekend.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Such a terrible take by you that you don't care
- 16:00Speaker 6: about any week zero games. Bill Belichick's coaching.
- 16:03Speaker 3: I have them.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Taylor, you have stripped my soul of caring about North
- 16:08Speaker 2: Carolina football.
- 16:09Speaker 3: I want to care about them.
- 16:11Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yes. Thank you. That's fair. Anyway, go ahead. Go, Joe.
- 16:16Speaker 4: All right. Well, you know what?
- 16:18Speaker 5: For Taylor's sake, because I am intrigued, I would say
- 16:20Speaker 5: I'm doing a top five for games I care about
- 16:22Speaker 5: this weekend. I'll put North Carolina TCU at number one.
- 16:25Speaker 5: I have a morbid curiosity about North Carolina at this point.
- 16:29Speaker 5: And since I cover games in the Big 12 for TNT,
- 16:31Speaker 5: I do want to see Jaden Craig under center for TCU,
- 16:33Speaker 5: former Harvard quarterback, taking the place of Josh Hoover, who's
- 16:36Speaker 5: at Indiana. After that, I understand the other ones that
- 16:40Speaker 5: people look at. We have an ACC conference game. NC
- 16:43Speaker 5: State at Virginia this weekend. Virginia was in the ACC
- 16:46Speaker 5: championship game last year, has a schedule that lays out perfectly.
- 16:50Speaker 5: It's like this game and then their game against SMU.
- 16:53Speaker 5: And besides that, it should be an easy road to
- 16:55Speaker 5: Charlotte for the Cavaliers, who... Have Bo Pribula coming over
- 16:58Speaker 5: at quarterback after a year at Missouri. So I'll take
- 17:02Speaker 5: those two up top. Then I'll go San Jose State
- 17:06Speaker 5: at USC. Want to see what Gary Patterson's defense looks
- 17:09Speaker 5: like for Lincoln Riley's team if we think they're going
- 17:11Speaker 5: to be able to actually stop the run this year.
- 17:14Speaker 5: After that, I'll go Florida State hosting New Mexico State.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Same thing there.
- 17:17Speaker 5: You've got to coach on the hot seat at a
- 17:19Speaker 5: big-time school. And then Memphis at UNLV. Sign me up
- 17:22Speaker 5: for that one, too. So I think there's a bunch
- 17:24Speaker 5: of good options.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Sneaky one, too.
- 17:26Speaker 5: North Dakota State making their jump this year. They're playing
- 17:29Speaker 5: in the Mountain West now, which is incredible. This has
- 17:32Speaker 5: been a fan base that's been crying out for that
- 17:34Speaker 5: FBS jump for a while. They saw other teams like
- 17:37Speaker 5: Jane Mattis making the move that they thought were in
- 17:39Speaker 5: their tax bracket. And so now watching them get a
- 17:41Speaker 5: little bit of taste of the action is going to
- 17:43Speaker 5: be really, really fun with a team that I think
- 17:45Speaker 5: still has a pretty clear identity.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Taylor's very excited for that game. I'm excited for that game.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Taylor turned down a free trip to go to Ireland
- 17:51Speaker 2: to see North Carolina play.
- 17:52Speaker 3: How about that, Gojo?
- 17:54Speaker 4: What?
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Why?
- 17:55Speaker 3: Yes.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Too long of a flight, Gojo, and I have a
- 17:59Speaker 6: sneaking suspicion that North Carolina is going to get– Molly
- 18:04Speaker 6: whopped in this game. So I didn't really, I would
- 18:06Speaker 6: prefer to just watch a game on my couch. Almost 99%
- 18:09Speaker 6: of the time.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Had you been to Dublin though?
- 18:11Speaker 6: No, and my passport is currently expired too.
- 18:15Speaker 4: That's pretty crucial.
- 18:16Speaker 3: There was a lot working against him, yes.
- 18:19Speaker 4: That might be, because I was.
- 18:19Speaker 5: Going to say, being a fan going over to that
- 18:22Speaker 5: game sounds like a great time. I played in Dublin.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Our first game my last year was against Navy in Dublin.
- 18:28Speaker 5: And for us, it was just like another game week,
- 18:30Speaker 5: 100 and plus college kids. They stuck us in the countryside.
- 18:34Speaker 5: Our hotel was so far from anything. You weren't getting
- 18:36Speaker 5: out to have any fun. I'd walk into the hotel
- 18:38Speaker 5: lobby and it'd be my parents, all the other parents
- 18:41Speaker 5: on the trip, and the football support staff members walking
- 18:43Speaker 5: in with bloodshot eyes because they'd been out drinking. I
- 18:46Speaker 5: heard how many drinks my dad was buying for everybody.
- 18:49Speaker 5: It sounded like a great time. So doing that trip
- 18:51Speaker 5: as a fan sounds like it'd be great. Doing it
- 18:53Speaker 5: as a player was just stressful and you were sleep
- 18:56Speaker 5: deprived because of the flight.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Taylor, would you be more inclined to go if there
- 19:00Speaker 2: was no football game, just Mike Golick Sr.
- 19:02Speaker 3: At a bar in Dublin buying drinks for everyone? What
- 19:05Speaker 3: do you think?
- 19:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I'd be on the first flight out.
- 19:09Speaker 3: I think. Mikey A is nodding his head in agreement.
- 19:14Speaker 4: I'd sit a middle seat.
- 19:16Speaker 3: To Ireland.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Put me in 35E, Mikey.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Oh, God.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I heard Gojo say today that he feels like Seattle,
- 19:25Speaker 2: the Seahawks, have brought back Hard Knocks.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I haven't watched a.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Single episode because I don't care what the Super Bowl
- 19:31Speaker 2: champions are going through. And it drives me crazy to
- 19:34Speaker 2: see Sam Darnold in a Seahawks uniform when my team,
- 19:38Speaker 2: we had the quarterback, Gojo.
- 19:39Speaker 3: We had him. We let him go. And now he's
- 19:41Speaker 3: winning Super Bowls in Seattle. But you're liking Hard Knocks?
- 19:44Speaker 4: I haven't watched any of it either. I was just
- 19:46Speaker 4: talking about what everyone else said.
- 19:48Speaker 3: I'm so proud of you.
- 19:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I heard your take on it.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Bullshit with conviction, what Dad always said. Yeah, I know.
- 20:01Speaker 4: I haven't watched any of it, but it sounds great.
- 20:02Speaker 4: I've seen the clips with Mike McDonald.
- 20:04Speaker 2: No, we'll leave it right there. You haven't watched any,
- 20:08Speaker 2: but you went on national radio today. And you said
- 20:10Speaker 2: that Hard Knocks is back.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Proud of you. That's it. We're going to do the
- 20:13Speaker 3: polls here, Gojo. You good? You good to do the
- 20:15Speaker 3: polls with us here? Wrap up the week?
- 20:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 4: I got two minutes. Let's do it.
- 20:18Speaker 3: All right, let's do it. That's the Got790 on X. Ricardo,
- 20:21Speaker 3: give me the music. Ricardo's not here.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 20:24Speaker 6: He's right here. He's sitting right next to me.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Whoever hit that button, thank you.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Oh, he is here. It was Ricardo.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Or not Ricardo. All right, that's the Got790 on X. Taylor,
- 20:33Speaker 3: give us the polls.
- 20:34Speaker 6: Is the name Faison Brandon backwards?
- 20:37Speaker 3: Brandon Faison, yes.
- 20:40Speaker 6: It is. 90.3% of the audience said yes.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Goja voted yes.
- 20:46Speaker 4: I heard that one. It was my take.
- 20:49Speaker 6: If John Carlos Stanton was a dog, would we be
- 20:52Speaker 6: putting him down right now?
- 20:56Speaker 4: It's Taylor's take. A bad one.
- 20:59Speaker 6: Jesus. People were kind of upset about this one.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I mean, what are you doing?
- 21:06Speaker 6: This is a tough one to see without knowing any
- 21:08Speaker 6: context of the discussion.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Perhaps you should have. Yes. I mean, he's going to
- 21:12Speaker 3: put himself down.
- 21:15Speaker 6: It was a weird take for Stu Gatz to tweet out.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I agree.
- 21:22Speaker 6: 84% of the audience said, yes, we would be putting
- 21:24Speaker 6: him down.
- 21:24Speaker 4: All right.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Wow.
- 21:27Speaker 6: Does every college coach have a judge in their back pocket?
- 21:30Speaker 4: Oh, yep.
- 21:31Speaker 1: They do.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Several, several judges.
- 21:33Speaker 4: The good ones.
- 21:33Speaker 6: Yes.
- 21:34Speaker 3: The good ones.
- 21:34Speaker 6: 89.2% of the audience said yes.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 21:41Speaker 6: Does Jacoby Bursette only play in garbage time?
- 21:44Speaker 4: Yes.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Well, I mean, he's starting, but....
- 21:49Speaker 5: But if he's starting for you, is it automatically garbage time?
- 21:51Speaker 2: We were talking about fantasy quarterbacks, and sometimes a garbage
- 21:55Speaker 2: time quarterback is a great quarterback to have. He's always
- 21:58Speaker 2: down 24-0 going into the fourth quarter. He'll give you
- 22:01Speaker 2: two touchdowns and 280 yards.
- 22:03Speaker 3: All of it in the final eight minutes of the game.
- 22:05Speaker 6: Yep. It's Jacoby Brissett time, quote, Jacoby Brissett. 74.1% of
- 22:12Speaker 6: the audience said yes, that's where Jacoby Brissett lives.
- 22:15Speaker 2: We should ask, should Garbage Time have a new name,
- 22:17Speaker 2: Jacoby Brissett time?
- 22:20Speaker 4: Blake Bortles would like a word.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sorry.
- 22:22Speaker 6: This one comes from one of the games Gojo mentioned,
- 22:24Speaker 6: Memphis UNLV. Would you name Air Nolan your starting quarterback
- 22:29Speaker 6: off name alone?
- 22:30Speaker 3: Yep. Yes, Gojo says yes.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Like Jackson Dart, 100%.
- 22:33Speaker 3: Everyone says yes.
- 22:35Speaker 6: Not 100% disappointing, but 77% of the audience said yes.
- 22:38Speaker 3: I mean, air.
- 22:41Speaker 6: Bigger potential accomplishment for Bill Belichick. Six Super Bowls, getting
- 22:47Speaker 6: UNC to the playoffs.
- 22:49Speaker 3: All right, this is a great question. Gojo, get out
- 22:50Speaker 3: of here. We love you.
- 22:51Speaker 2: The Goal looks 10 to noon Eastern on ESPN Radio
- 22:54Speaker 2: every day.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Enjoy the stakes tonight. We love you, buddy.
- 22:58Speaker 4: This is a big one.
- 23:00Speaker 3: This is a big one. Ask it again, Taylor, because
- 23:02Speaker 3: I forgot.
- 23:02Speaker 6: Bigger potential accomplishment for Bill Belichick, six Super Bowls or
- 23:08Speaker 6: getting UNC to the playoffs?
- 23:09Speaker 2: You know, I've been thinking about this the way Mikey
- 23:12Speaker 2: has about the utensil.
- 23:16Speaker 3: It would be the biggest thing on his resume. Getting
- 23:18Speaker 3: this Carolina team with this.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Schedule after everything Belichick has put himself through. He hasn't
- 23:26Speaker 2: gone through anything. He put himself through all of this, okay,
- 23:29Speaker 2: by his own actions. But, yes, making it to the
- 23:31Speaker 2: playoffs this year would be the greatest accomplishment on a
- 23:35Speaker 2: resume that has six Super Bowl championships on it.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:38Speaker 6: And 80.1% of the audience agreed with you, Stu, getting
- 23:43Speaker 6: UNC to the playoffs. This is two more questions. The
- 23:47Speaker 6: poll I mentioned with Gojo earlier, should the Sunbelt Conference's
- 23:51Speaker 6: motto be, we'll take the NFL players?
- 23:53Speaker 3: Hell, yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Why not?
- 23:56Speaker 3: I mean, geez, why wouldn't you? You've waited all your
- 23:59Speaker 3: life to have this opportunity.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Here it is.
- 24:01Speaker 6: Come on down to Marshall. 95.5% of the audience said yes.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Big one here.
- 24:13Speaker 3: All right.
- 24:14Speaker 6: One utensil for the rest of your life.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Wow.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. What a question.
- 24:21Speaker 6: Just for context, this poll got about... Five times the
- 24:26Speaker 6: amount of votes we normally get on polls.
- 24:28Speaker 3: That's what people care about. They don't care about lawyers, attorneys, LSU,
- 24:32Speaker 3: Wayne Kiffin. They don't care. They care about forks, knives,
- 24:34Speaker 3: and spoons.
- 24:34Speaker 6: It's weird to see what really resonates with the audience sometimes.
- 24:37Speaker 3: It's crazy, yes. We need Dan and I. programmed our
- 24:41Speaker 3: show that way.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I cannot i'm going to see a bunch of guys
- 24:46Speaker 1: that i don't i get to see once a year
- 24:48Speaker 1: i cannot wait to throw this question out and just
- 24:51Speaker 1: watch the arguments.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Fly right like if you go to your group of
- 24:54Speaker 2: friends and say hey who's gonna win the national championship
- 24:56Speaker 2: this year there's a good chance at least with my
- 24:58Speaker 2: crew someone's gonna punch me in the face I ask
- 25:00Speaker 2: a fork, knife, or spoon.
- 25:02Speaker 3: We'll be debating it for weeks. I mean.
- 25:04Speaker 6: Yep. And there's times where we record so much that
- 25:08Speaker 6: the second I leave this studio, I almost forget what
- 25:11Speaker 6: we say.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:12Speaker 6: And the only thing that reminds me of what we
- 25:13Speaker 6: say is when the audience starts to write in. And
- 25:16Speaker 6: when I'm getting messages flooding my inbox yesterday saying, this
- 25:20Speaker 6: is why I would choose fork. This is why I
- 25:22Speaker 6: would choose spoon. At the very least, can we settle
- 25:25Speaker 6: on some common ground that nobody is picking knife? Then
- 25:28Speaker 6: I'm like, wow.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:29Speaker 6: We really found something this segment.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Special topic. I'm picking knife.
- 25:36Speaker 6: Wow. 52.5% of the audience said fork.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the one.
- 25:41Speaker 6: It is.
- 25:41Speaker 4: It's fork. Those are the polls.
- 25:44Speaker 3: All right.
