- Lucas: Hei og velkommen til Episode 179 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Lucas, I'm so excited for today's topic. I got lost yesterday in Oslo and had no idea how to ask for directions. Lucas: Oh no! That's perfect timing then, because today we're learning how to ask for and understand directions. It's a survival skill. Luna: Totally. So where do we start? Lucas: First, the magic word: 'unnskyld'. It means 'excuse me'. Say it with me: unnskyld. Luna: Unnskyld. Lucas: Good. Now combine it with 'hvor er' — 'where is'. So: 'Unnskyld, hvor er...?' For example, 'Unnskyld, hvor er togstasjonen?' — Excuse me, where is the train station? Luna: Unnskyld, hvor er togstasjonen? Lucas: Perfect. Let's practice: Unnskyld, hvor er biblioteket? — the library. Luna: Unnskyld, hvor er biblioteket? Lucas: Nailed it. Now, for the answer, you'll hear direction words. First: 'til venstre' — to the left. Luna: Til venstre. Lucas: Yes. And 'til høyre' — to the right. Luna: Til høyre. That one's a bit trickier. Lucas: You'll get it. And 'rett fram' — straight ahead. Luna: Rett fram. Okay, I can remember that. Lucas: So if someone says 'ta til venstre' — take a left. Or 'gå til høyre' — go right. And 'gå rett fram' — go straight. Luna: Got it. And then I say 'tusen takk' — thank you very much. Lucas: Exactly. 'Tusen takk' is super polite. Let's hear it: tusen takk. Luna: Tusen takk. Lucas: Lovely. Let's put it all together in a little scene. Imagine you're at the park and you need the museum. So: 'Unnskyld, hvor er museet?' Luna: Unnskyld, hvor er museet? Lucas: And I answer: 'Gå rett fram, så ta til venstre.' — Go straight, then take a left. Luna: Rett fram, så til venstre. Okay. Lucas: Then you say: 'Tusen takk!' Luna: Tusen takk! Lucas: Perfect! You just successfully got directions in Norwegian. How does it feel? Luna: Honestly, really good. I think I could actually do that now. Lucas: Let's try another. This time, you're looking for the bus stop — bussholdeplassen. Luna: Unnskyld, hvor er bussholdeplassen? Lucas: And I say: 'Gå til høyre, så rett fram.' Luna: Til høyre, så rett fram. Tusen takk! Lucas: You're a natural. Now let's practice a couple more times. Repeat after me: til venstre. Luna: Til venstre. Lucas: Til høyre. Luna: Til høyre. Lucas: Rett fram. Luna: Rett fram. Lucas: And the full question: 'Unnskyld, hvor er banken?' Luna: Unnskyld, hvor er banken? Lucas: Great. Now, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Norwegian, we'd like to mention something. We keep the show ad-free on purpose — no interruptions, just learning. If that's valuable to you, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a simple way to keep the episodes coming without commercials. Luna: Yeah, I love that we don't have ads. It makes the podcast feel like we're just chatting. Lucas: Exactly. Anyway, back to directions. Let's try a longer sentence: 'Gå til venstre, så til høyre, så rett fram.' Luna: Gå til venstre, så til høyre, så rett fram. That's a lot of turns! Lucas: But you said it perfectly. Now, your turn to give directions. If someone asks 'Unnskyld, hvor er kafeen?' — what do you say if it's to the left? Luna: Umm… 'Ta til venstre'? Lucas: Yes! Or 'Gå til venstre'. Both work. And after that, they'll say 'tusen takk'. Luna: Tusen takk. I love that phrase. Lucas: Let's do one more drill together. I'll give a place, you ask where it is. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: The hospital — sykehuset. Luna: Unnskyld, hvor er sykehuset? Lucas: Gå rett fram, så til venstre. Luna: Rett fram, så til venstre. Tusen takk. Lucas: You did it. See, you're already navigating Norway. Luna: I think I'll practice this on my walk today. I'll pretend I'm a tourist. Lucas: That's a great idea. Review these phrases: 'Unnskyld, hvor er…?', 'til venstre', 'til høyre', 'rett fram', and 'tusen takk'. Repeat them a few times and you'll be set. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This was super helpful. Lucas: You're welcome. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. Ha det bra! Luna: Ha det bra!
