- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, folks.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: This is Chemical Music.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: We're back for part two of Friday morning GM here on August 14th.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: Join me as always.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's Vaseline Rico's Vaseline.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: Life is good, can?
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: Good to be with you for part two.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about you, but I am inspired by these coaching staff's performance so far in training, can't.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: A lack of injuries really makes everything better.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: And we talked a lot about that during the first episode that the injuries to Marlon Humphrey and Wiggins, I want to say Allen Wiggins, a lot still what I hear the name Wiggins, but it's Nate Wiggins.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: Allen Wiggins is the second basement for the Orioles many years ago.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, Nate Wiggins both appear to be not particularly serious and mentor mentioned that both of them he expects back next week, which is incredible, you know, given the nature of these two injuries to very significant players.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: And beyond that, there are two top-wide receivers, Bateman and flowers.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, our our our back 11 on 11's after missing days themselves.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: So flowers missed a thought I guess a close to a week.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: But he came back and he wasn't doing anything when I was yet.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: And well, some of the days doing 11 on 11's and and Bateman just missed two days in a row.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: And his back immediately doing 11 on 11's had a big day, by the way.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for your shot, Bateman.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Look great today.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Also.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: So good news all around, you know, injuries are inevitable in a combat sport, but you don't want to do your best, you know, hope that you don't have cluster injuries in the same position group.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't want to have both, you're starting corners of both, you're starting receivers injured at the same time.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: That was, that wasn't very fun.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Day or two.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was, it was been a tough couple days, but we're going to, we're going to talk about the inside linebackers today and the depth chart that, and why don't we just do this one player at a time because rather than us kind of conclude on our own about the top four guys, we maybe have a little bit of interactive discussion about these.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: And we have a very deep mail bag to get to appreciate you folks for all your great questions and some fantastic stuff here.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: I hope we can get to all of it if we can't we'll put off some of it for next week.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk inside linebackers,
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Kwan Smith, do you got to start with the captain of the defense, second high state inside Dacker in the league.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: He has earned a lot of acclades.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: The last two years hasn't graded maybe up to that level.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm hoping he's going to kind of get back to
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: becoming more of a playmaker as far as getting tackles for walls, getting sacks, generating turnovers, what this new defense.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: And there are returning San Tucci, the inside lab at her coach.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: So that's one of the only, you know, position coaches they did retain.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a guy that they, they clearly like, um, Rokwan,
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: there's so much to say about him from a positive standpoint and about how different this defense would look without him.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: I am a guy and I know you espoused this theory as well who I'm not really great about paying for inside linebackers because I think it's one of the positions you can afford not to pay.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: So if you have maybe one star player who's on an early contract,
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: And you're just paying it first round money or you're paying second round money even and then you have your second guy is a veteran you bring in his cheaper you have a platoon situation there we have a dime back and a two to down will kind of think that those kind of things always are
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: on the table for me at the inside line-backer position.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: They decided to pay Rokuan Smith a lot of money.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: And he's so far, he certainly earned the contract that he had, at least in my money as we can debate that another time if you want to.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: But he's a guy who, next year, there's a $20 million cap savings from cutting him.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Ravens will take advantage of this, but he is here all the way for this year.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: for short.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: And there may be a trademark for him next off season, because the Ravens obviously eat the Signing Bonus portion, so he probably would be a value to most teams at his just base salary next year.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, Rokon, I sort of feel like Rokon and Hamilton is almost like a co-cap in at this point, and in that scenario looking ahead to next year, I would maybe
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think that inside linebacker is one of the greatest size and shape pools, and we've seen the Ravens develop on-draft the guys year, you know, so many times and we'll get to a few of them coming up, but I must say I don't think that else about Rokwann will move on to Trenton Simpson.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm bullish on trying to save some of this year.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he did well in the last month of last season.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he actually did well in the game that Rokorn missed.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's a runner hit lineback, but he's an athletic specimen.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: He definitely has good ability coming forward, coming downhill.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I do think he's going to probably
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: Mr. Jesse Mentor, the defense of wizard that he is is going to find a way to put him in position to succeed, Mentor had a top five defense last year without great in signline back or play.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: So did not give him a former third round pick, like Simpson, and for what I've heard, a row quantity phrasing is processing ability, apparently that's improved, so I think this could be a year for breakout season for Simpson.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I wouldn't say I have a lot to say about Simpson that I picked up directly from camp, but I'll say this, that if Rokwan can make a great weekside linebacker at a Patrick Queen, then he can make a great weekside linebacker at a Trenton Simpson, Trenton Simpson is a better football player.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: And that's something that he's a much better physical specimen than Queen.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: But he's a better, he's much bigger, about 15 pounds heavier probably and he's a guy who could move to the Mike potentially.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how it's going to work out because I think he's kind of got a very narrow landing strip for a very short landing strip for being back on the Ravens next year.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's not under contract.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's in his walk year.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: If he has a big year, he probably goes out and test the market and makes a money and I don't think the Ravens are going to pay him a pain inside lineback or a lot of money, but I don't think they could pay him a lot of money either.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that if he otherwise has a lousy year, the Ravens made a side, well, you know what?
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go ahead and expand the draft capital and get somebody else.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, he might be back on a one-year proof at deal or something if something really went wrong and drew to something.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's actually pretty unlikely that he's back with the Ravens next year, despite the fact that I think, you know, he can really help them this year.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so inside linebacker market has been flat.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: Rokon signed his contract four years ago and he's still second.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: Part of that is because there hasn't really been a big influx of high quality inside backers.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's he and Fred Warner are just kind of always seen as the top two.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, Simpson, you're going to have more three or $15 million a deal, something like that.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be on board with that if he's anchoring your unit.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: who is still on pop.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: So we don't know Eric DeCasa said he had a 99, 90th percentile, 99th percentile recovery from his ACL.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: He suffered and I believe late November, early December, we're hoping to get him back on the field.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: He did fair pretty well for a rookie last year.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: He had to be wrapped up some big tackle games.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think he runs defensive rookie the week one time or maybe even twice and he does seem to have pretty good instincts for the position.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, I'm positive on him largely because of additional runway.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was clearly better than Patrick Queen is a rookie, but that's a very low bar.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's not a reasonable thing to go with.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: And you can also an older player, so you'd expect him to be more developed and more, you know, further along the line.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: But I still think he's a guy who,
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: the ravens can expect to grow into being a better player than Patrick Queen was at his peak when he's with the ravens and so it's a positive.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: This injury is unquestionably a stumbling block that will need to be clearly hurtled.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: And he's coming back from something, there may be lingering impacts of it in terms of his play on the field.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: There may be reductions in speed that we can't immediately see, but that are present there in the show, maybe it coverage.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: There may be questions of the lost time has cost him development.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: And he hasn't been at camp and learning to do some of the things he really needed to take a step forward in your two.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: So you're two ends up looking like you're one again, which wouldn't be terrible or anything, but it also wouldn't be great.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I will say this, the one he was the rookie of the, was he rookie of the month, if it's rookie of the month?
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think he was.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that brings a bill.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Broquon missed the game and he was just rackin' up like 10, 10, 8, 10, 12 tackles for a couple weeks in a row.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been October, it was during the Ravens incredibly horrible stretch, but also kind of a...
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: I would probably call it...
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: I hope he has months that he's more proud of it.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: It is an official career.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: Oh right.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: But for return investment for, I believe we use a fifth, right?
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: Fifth and on pick.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: Four.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Fourth and on.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: Even fourth and on pick.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's been, it's been a good ROI to today.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: No problem with that.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: So Jay Higgins, a player I liked, or I saw on the preseason last year, made the team as an undrafted rookie.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's a shivers on special teams.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: All of the inside backers.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: The last three at least are definitely to share with you as you expect.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many of your bigs usually always come from this position group.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what you've seen in camp, but I think he's very, very fine back up inside back or from what I saw last year.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's look good.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the reasons I really like Higgins is because he's a legitimate backup like he is the size to jump right in there.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: And Ravens have a lot of good size in this group.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: I honestly, I think the jury is out
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think that Simpson, either cannery can't based on whether he's good enough at the processing component, but he has all the size, and Higgins has all the size necessary and he's probably a good enough processor.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: One thing I've noticed from this year is Higgins is making a lot of plays in the run game.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: And they do, they do a fair amount of run drills, you try and capture kind of who's who's getting the stop or the stop when there is one, and Higgins has been pretty darn good looking.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: And three of them, I think, at the stadium practice, which was kind of cool and I might have been in a better position to see them because we are elevated for that one.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise, I have to kind of catch it at ground level, it's a little bit more difficult.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I think real quantum remains the best in coverage out of this group.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, top, this top quartet and he has some good plays and covers last year, you know, carrying the scene, breaking up balls, so I hope that continues.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that maybe long-term this position group might be a place where they could be use a economy with Jesse Menter and using Carl Hamilton as sort of the captain of a second caller.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: But they're well positioned this year if you can't get back on the field soon.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you only need about, you hope, you totally need about 1.7 inside linebacker snaps per play.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: So if you have a star player, or even a guy you like, like a Simpson, or if you can, and it doesn't take too much building around that, because you're really looking for a specialist to down player if you've got your Mike sorted out.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: But this is a team that is definitely short in total depth at the position with four guys, kind of like the safety position a little bit that, you know, four is maybe a little short, but if you got the right four guys, it's okay, and maybe they have the right four guys as you're certainly if you can, it's healthy.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good thing because the drop-off is enormous to the next set of guys, because the next four, and I'll just go through these guys quickly, are down to Luke Good, Germán Johnson, who they just brought in.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: Carl Jones and Reed Willoughford, and none of those guys is a real candidate to make the team.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's a question of who they keep on the practice squad in this.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: They could keep an older guy, he's not really that old anymore.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: Carl Jones is a second-year player, but he's been a, I might be 26 or 25 by now.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: They might keep him around as a special team's back up big, or they might keep a deluca if they thought he was a bigger chance to grow into a potential fourth inside line-backer rule.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: What I've seen, or what I've heard, I should say, is to Luca is maybe make us a place here and there.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: Jones came to the team, I want to say, last November, or maybe December, and with a reputation as a special team sort of ace, but...
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: Watching him on social teams, I didn't necessarily see it.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's a little bit smaller, I think, than some of the other guys.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's more in the 230 range.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: So just from base off of what I've heard, I would probably pay the luka as the top of this second group, but the UICL, I'm a first-hand knowledge and I do.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate you.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: Look at some weights here.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: So Deluca is 61228, which is a little small.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's a will-only kind of guy.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: And we have Jones is 6023, which is even smaller.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then we have Willa Ferd, who is 61235.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's big and Mike back up stuff.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: So it'll probably Mike in the second half of this game.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, Johnson.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Jamad Johnson, right?
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: And he's 61236.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's Mike Mike Meat, too.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like, uh, Mike possibility as well.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see if one of these guys flexors on teams maybe in the pre-season, but I'll give you my finished cross of today's going to be ready and you have a quality four court that there and you're ready to roll.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: And the size and shape pool thing the point that you made earlier means that they can go outside the organization if they need to and find that fourth guy if they if they come up short at some point during the season.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: and most notably in 2019, they came up, multiple guys short, and they went to the street, they got LJ for it in Josh Bines, and all of a sudden everything was clicking for that 2019 team.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, linebacker is one of the positions that's more the processing, the intellect, the instincts is most important.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I would say probably only the entire team, any position group instincts are probably maybe more important than any other.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's certainly a, it's a, yeah, it's interesting because the size and shape pool is enormous to, to big, but there's, but there's a little bit limited play a number of players from that size and shape pool can put the brains behind it, sure.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you get some of these guys a lot of donaces, but they just can't process at the right speed and they're just never paying up.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, all right.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: How would you attack the rebuild if if you're looking at this for next year in this position you're going to you're going to you're going to lose Smith almost certainly, let's say I maybe there's a rabbit to people out of that have I don't know and then Simpson, you know, maybe you sign in but let's assume you don't see you back to Buchanan coming back and Higgins is your starting point.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do how much draft capital you will toss out of this.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: For me personally, I wouldn't go above a third-round pick because I think this is a place where you can save.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I like I said, I'd maybe look to get a five million APY.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: better in whether that's Simpson or someone else, and you hope you develop Higgins and Buchanan into something playable.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, this is really the best place when the entire defense is going to cheap.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: You want to spend money on the defensive line, but stop their own personal pass or you need to spend money outside that capital outside backer.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then they already, they already obviously locked in
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so look at the choice to me, is do you spend on, do you spend up at inside landback or one or cornerback two hypothetically?
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: I would, I would prefer cornerback two.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: I can buy it and I'm open to multiple strategies to getting, getting things done cheaply.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: One of the things that could, could help this year in terms of the inside linebacker room, you don't even think about this necessarily.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly in terms of the cap in general,
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: one or two of the younger cornerbacks could really stand out in a way that you're like not afraid to lose an abusia or a hump for even.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: And you say, well, okay, rivers or Martin is completely ready for the job or or Cone looks ready to go on the outside and let's roll with him kind of thing.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully they're they put themselves in that position.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, they have a defensive mind ahead cooks.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's supposed to be one of the best schematic coaches in the league.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't mind going cheap at both inside-backer, one, and cornerback, too, and putting that money maybe into the offensive line, hypothetically.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: So let's see how this season plays out, and we'll have a better feel for kind of plans next off season.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: So now we got a very deep mail bag.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: Let's jump into that.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go with the first question here because I don't think I've got the explanation that's behind it there.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is from Thomas Neary of Facebook.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: What happened to save your practices from the NFL commissioner?
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: So this was in regards to the two cornerback injuries, which neither of which.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: Um, was a collision injury like the Jalen Hawkins injuries, they could have been avoided by having, you know, different practice practices, meaning, you know, methodology that yeah.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't necessarily know what time this is getting at the prices are definitely safer.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: They're not they're not doing two days with no one can drink water because that makes you weak.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to go home with drills every ten minutes, you know, so.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the two, the two injuries that occurred here, Wiggins was a, there might have been a foot tangling or a step on foot situation or something that I did not see it.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'd been reported by other people, but it looked like Wiggins went down money in the end zone and he had positioned on the football.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I don't think he was like,
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: contacted into that injury.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then in the other case, it's Humphrey going down, and that was just running on a long coverage play.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: We're here to bracket with, with Starks, the play of the ball was overthrown, they didn't even have any interaction between those three players in any way.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some injuries are avoidable and there's some like the Humphrey thing that just are not avoidable.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Wiggins thing I'd say, it was probably not avoidable.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: But all the Hawkins collisions, those are avoidable and they needed to, they need to do something about that.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, Hawkins had to play today against Mark Andrews on right side.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: I just five yards from the line.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: The screen is passed out on Andrews.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Hawkins was coming down hill and he immediately put his hands up like this as in.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not touching him.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: So he's had a talking to.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and mentor, mentor refuses to throw one of the bus because the media asked him, was this Hawkins, I like the way mentors handle in the questions at the podium, but on why are they specifically mentioned how much of a leader Hawkins is, so to add another leader now to this very talented defense is exciting.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: Hawkins, he plays in the post.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's mostly at the very back guy in the defense.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's incredibly important.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: Your free safety is highly communicative.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: He should be, he sometimes like Ed Reed, he just is captain of the secondary and he'll call out, move people around, whatnot, to a lesser degree, your slot corner does that as well, to a probably a greater degree in Baltimore, because your son more happens to be kind of elambleton.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: But even when it was our Terry's web, say it's a slot corner, he was a guy who communicated a lot.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: But the other position, it's basically it's your free safety and your Mike Linebacker, those are the two positions who need to communicate with the entire field, the rest of the guys, defensive linemen, they're very focused on their own job.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: Right, corners, outside corners, is their own job.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they're more autonomous, right?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: They're more autonomous and, you know, so but just back to the point, I think the league has taken drastic steps to make practices more
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: safer, you know, safer, and some of these injuries are inevitable.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's guys have so many miles.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like, even going back to the Dobbins injury, the defeat that we touched on in the first episode, he was in a preseason game.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: He called a swim pass, a player tackling, and his knee gave out.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he had like, I don't know, it's very high number of carries in college.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: And at some point, your body's just going to break down.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: Whether it's contact or not.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Let's move on to the next question here.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'll do it anyway.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: Aim, aim, or aim me under heaven.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely feel like there might need to be some reigning in of the contested catches because it really seems like there's an injury trend that we haven't really experienced before.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: I would agree with that.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: And we're in a way, in a way, it's unfortunate that Chakoby Lane hasn't had an injury yet because he's been involved in a bunch of these.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's been going up high for the ball as fearless because in practice, your teammates are taking care of you, right?
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's really something, the easy fix for this is basically to say if you're a defender you're allowed to get close but you're not allowed to contest for the ball.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: The offense always is allowed to go up to the ball and it makes the defense look a little silly and they're going to give up some receptions that wouldn't give up in a real game.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: But on the other hand, you take care of your teammates and you do it.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually a pretty easy fix for everything, but yeah, it's a hard and bitter pill for
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well sure, and I think Jacobi Lane, I guess basically every corner on the team, this this this training camp has raised the competition level where Wiggins says I want to step up and I want to knock the ball away and I want to make a point Jacobi Lane looks like a fantastic pick at this point.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: and maybe the first mid-round, what you see with the ravens have ever really, really hit on.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm excited by him.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, you're like, you need to jump it up in the air, trying to make it, and then you come down flying under the lake.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it's almost like the NBA where the guys come down, I've jumped the ball, and that's where a lot of hyper extended knees, and that sort of thing happens.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's go with the next Jacobie Lane question here because Brad McGowan asked, while the Lane hype is fun, it seems to be that Walker's skill set and ability creates separation might actually make him more productive in the regular season, once defenses can be really physical.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: What's your take on Walker versus Lane for this season?
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited about both of them.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm definitely excited about Walker.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: He has generational speed.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, Lane has that catch radius and I talk in ability and apparently really excellent hands, but I think I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them on the field at the same time, the flowers and Baton's getting a blow here and there.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I, I, I, I like the receiving core.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad that they did not, they resisted the urge to build and get one of the veterans because I think they have a really strong, young, cheap core.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: So that's, that's great.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and, you know, obviously, they've got, they've got said you now who they're paying a lot of money to, but they, but they do have a, a fairly inexpensive wind receiver room relative to some other teams, the NFL.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it's also one of the teams that does not need any sort of rebuilding after this year.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: Thankfully, there's, there's something
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: They don't need to completely rebuild.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I'll say this about Lane.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think Lane is getting a lot of his props, this preseason, based on the fact that nobody's giving a helicopter ride.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: When he's up there and it's not legal to do that, but it's still going to happen and he's going to come down hard during the regular season.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's also going to be more contested for those balls and just have few of them, you know, be able to hold on to a few of them.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's been a very good defensive receiver in his college career that he had at USC at 18 touchdowns of three interceptions allowed.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: So that kind of ratio.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: You obviously take it for your quarterback and so you'd be excited about have it for your.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: for a wider seaver as well, that's a good thing, but I think that Walker has really looked worse than he's played so far because they massively underthrowed a large number of balls to him, and so that's been a frustrating thing for Walker.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's really carrying it.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you see it kind of in his body language, his shoulders and kind of a
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: kind of getting back to the line of scrimmage and whatnot.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's it's unfortunate, but it's uh I think you know, hopefully
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: quarterback's recalibrate to throw it so far they couldn't possibly catch it and then it's right where he needs it to be.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully they get to come shoot down.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think they're not a police and, you know, DeCasa has talked about he's wanted to use he has wanted to find that expert typical X and I think Lane could be that.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you could also make some plays out of the slides for such a different room is not performing up the par.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm excited about this or see the room.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on to Dev Vinci, and this is more of a comment than a question.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to regret resigning Andrews over likely.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: Good good chance, I'd say, at this point.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a tough preseason for Andrews and
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's not showing the same amount of separation he had, though today, he had a pretty good day.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he's not catching the football as consistently as previously.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's been some estimates that are a little on the high end of how many drops he's had during camp.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's had a few and there's been a lot of others that have been squeezed in that are effectively Contested catches because they've been squeezed in that he hasn't been able to hang on to either And I wouldn't call them drops, but I would call them, you know This is an unfortunateness of a lack of separation So it's like in Roman general just as had a lot of trouble holding onto the football and and they need to do better
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's been a concern, you know, I think a lot of the, I look on Twitter and people kind of catching on to what I was concerned about a month or two ago.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think not only likely but Colour, I mean, I think we talked towards the end of the last season or the beginning of the off season, but I guess we're fully recent Andrews and out of the three-hour Sound Colour, because he's cheaper and he's a better blocker than Andrews or like we so,
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: No GM's going to bet a thousand, but let's hope that Mark, he doesn't have to be the focal point of the offensive anymore.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: Just be that reliable, chain-mover on third-downs, and I'll earn the next two years of his contract.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just hope he earns the next one year of his contract.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's all.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: They haven't outed out effectively after two years, and there's a pretty good chance that's going to be the end for Mark Andrews, but we'll see.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's clearly a ring of honor player.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to show it through any shade on the guy.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's just,
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: agreed.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: So we already touched on old Purp's dead last week.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see what I'm interested.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do this from.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Danerson, with the reports of every June taking snaps of left guard, how do you see the possibilities and priorities in that scenario?
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: It seems odd to switch a Vega from his college personal left guard, a right guard, and then flip and returns from right tackle to left guard instead of right guard, and I think that's a fair point, Ken.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: Leave it.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: So John Simpson was missing practice today with some sort of an injury and they had to have a temporary installation at left guard and I guess a few different players were impacted in the Domino chain and Emery Jones was one of them.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think a bit more as an opportunity to get Emery some some pulling chances and you know, you
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: do some of the things a left guard does where he's not going to generally have that opportunity during the season.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: I see Emery Jones as the number one right guard back up and also the number one right tackle back up, but there has been questions about that because Carson Vincent has gotten time on both sides, so that's been kind of cool.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it does seem that Vincent may be the swim tackle.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm based on our conversations, I think I'm a little bit higher on every jersey stock than you are.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a fair point to say why make two guys switch their footedness, so to speak.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that I also saw that Emory was one of them with the ones at guard yesterday.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: Now, maybe that was related to whatever Simpson was out for today.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I interpreted that as I've heard that Simpson might be struggling a little bit from some back channels.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: And if they decide that Jones is a better option and Simpson, I would be,
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm happy to hear that because I don't think you should be married to a player just because of a contract.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what I'm saying.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's potentially a way to get a big organizational black eye for a contract like that if they if they do it.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I agree there's no reason to be tied into this and they kind of knew what they're getting with John Simpson was a fairly marginal upgrade over what they had before.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: They still have four he's around who's taking a lot of steps at left guard.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I think the Emery Jones thing is actually just a one day thing.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: So let's just see how that plays out or until Simpson returns.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, not something a monitor.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: Bob, I did see Brian, we've far then reported the details of what he's
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: care cut essentially and I think he went down to like 1.6 million from 3 in the quarter wherever it was.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I think his place is solidified is one of the top nine for short.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on to Richard Zing's question.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: This is right up your alley Ken.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: Can you explain the race car defense and what players benefit?
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, what players benefit, I mean, hopefully the whole defense benefits, but the racecar defenses, I define it is four outside linebackers playing on the field at the same time, and that can be with or without a nose tackle as well, but it's typically without, and it's typically something you do to basically thumb your nose at the other team and tell them I dare you to run the football.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_00]: And the game, again, that mentioned going back that they did it a lot, it was other with Barton Dale, but they did it with the Rams game on Monday night, where they beat him 45 to 6, and they just continued to put the race car in.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: That season, they ended up playing 13.2% of their snaps with four outside linebackers in the field, and only 10% of their snaps in base defense.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: So it tells you, you know, a positive game script gives you a lot of options in terms of
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: getting in the sprinters blocks and going downhill against the opposing quarterback.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: So we'd love to see a big return to race car.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: They actually have the people to do it this year.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: They also have good interior pass for sure.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_00]: So they don't need to do it.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: In 2019, you may remember Vaso, they acquired Peca when Ellis at mid-season because they were short on.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: on linemen so that this is not a team that has to go that route and that you know they have Campbell and Matt Epique and Jones and they should have guys with the inside that they want on the field on third down.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Ray's card defense is terrific, you know, Ray's card with dimestrophic, it's a matter of GameStrip as you said.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: The first thing I really recall doing Ray's card was the New York Giants when I had Michael Strahan when he beat the Patriots.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember if it was the undefeated season because Eli beat him in a suitable choice, I think.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, it's, it's, it's, it means your offense performing well, you're defending a lead, and
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: You want to put more pastures on, and as you said, with Zion and TABs, and TABs, apparently seven and great came too, you had the players if you want to do that.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: Just a minute, I was a lot of toys to put in Policine, to do once.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on to these next few questions which were correlated, and I think they have a lot to do with GameStrict as well.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: This is from Eric.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Sims Rob, LJ at NB3, the point about possessions I think needs to be talked about more.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: The trend now is explosive plays, I said to be declin even munken from former wire clips.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: What is the average amount of plays you want for offense, Ken?
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I'd say 63 to 64 plays is an average number of plays you have in a game.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe in an ideal situation, you'd like to over a series of games and the 2019 Ravens are capable of doing this, you'd want to have 70 to 72 plays.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that kind of difference means not only that you're running more plays, but in the case of the 2019 reviews, it's all about to run plays, it's also shortening the game from that perspective, and your defense might be out there for only, you know, 57 plays a game kind of thing, 56 plays a game, so you really benefit on the other side even more.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: And that's how Lamar Jackson can make all 22 players better.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's the key trick in this is in order, and we've each asked a question about this.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: Nick meta asked about going on second and short yesterday.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: Earlier, I asked Declan about, would you rather have an offense that's more grindy
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: or more explosive.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I realize, you know, basically that you probably rather have both.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: You probably do rather do whatever you want to exactly.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: But that's of course true.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: And, but they are actually, they compete with each other.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: And they compete with each other on two specific cases.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: On first and ten, where you actually have to make choices about doing one, to keep up with the sticks or the shorter play, which is more times going to not to be a run play, or might be short pass also.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: Or do I want to try and get it explosive on first down and try and take my chances and move up the field in chunks?
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe reduced turnover risk would be some, you know, actually benefit from that by the way, but anyway, that's a choice.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: The other, did the place comes up all the freaking time is on second and short.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't have to be second and one exactly second and three or four are also in that
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: group and how you approach that whether or not you try and get it in two downs or you try and get a big chunk in one is a real question.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: Doyle seems to be very much on the explosive play side of things.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: In fact said, no team ever tries to run a 12-play drive to score.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't think that's true.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the 2019 Ravens did exactly that.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: And they did it at will on their opponents because of the personnel they had.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: And if you look at the, at the, at the 2024 playoff game against the Steelers, they did exactly that.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: They had a 15 play run drive for a touchdown from them with their own 10 yard line or whatever.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now, yeah, you want to be able to do everything you want to do, right?
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I definitely be with that.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing maybe more satisfying than just grinding a team down the field, running down their throats and maybe not nothing more demoralizing than what he's doing it to you.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_01]: Let me weave in, grab a gallons question here and I'll give a couple of more points.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: But the office has been plenty explosive in recent years and lost snap count substantially.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: How can they improve on that?
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: And it's something Doyle has talked about.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I thought Nick, I didn't know that was from Nick's question.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: That was a good question and a really good answer.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: I liked he, I think he referenced Bill Walsh, or maybe that was a question before.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: But Doyle was beyond impressed with Doyle and Neter.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: So, ideally, it's the game script, there's all this time, right?
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: You want to stay can only lead, you want your defense to get some turnovers, because other things chase and points, and then you want to run it right up the rear end for the second half, right?
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: So that's really what you want to do.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'll let you respond to Brad, and then I'll make a couple more points about the explosive thing.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: They were explosive in 25, and some of it is the definition of explosives is that run explosives are treated differently from past explosives since they're different length plays.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: There is a real question as to whether that's valid.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: The real problem is bar-billed results, okay?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: So you don't want a lot of plays that are not only not successes, but they are plays that put you far behind the sticks, and the Ravens had their highest
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: Sacrate in a lot of years last year, maybe ever, but definitely in a lot of years, they had their highest sacrate, the highest of Jackson era.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: And they had a number of failed third-down attempts by Derek Henry.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: They were not able, okay, by Derek Henry, by the offensive line, by the offensive, in terms of of getting first downs when they really need to.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: They also had some losses on first down with Henry, but it was barbelt results.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: And Henry had a lot of big runs.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: Henry had, you know, another very fine years.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_00]: No, nothing negative to say about it at all.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's just that I think the offense has more of a need to be grindy and succeed in serious success rate to grind out more plays than they have a need to be more explosive.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's a fair perspective, certainly.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think the offense suffered from the Mars injury on third down because there was a when he was at the peak of his powers with what should have been back to back every few seasons and really almost his whole tenure when he hasn't been injured.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: Picking up a third of medium seems inevitable.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: He was either going to find a way with his armor of the likes, no matter what, he would always find a way.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I think a lot of
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of the blame, at least a good portion of the blame for the loss of snap count and time possession last season falls on the defense.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: They just weren't out good enough at generating takeaways and I think that's, you know, the offense doesn't want to put them out their time after time, after three and now three and now three and now we've seen that going back to the billic years, how that can harm the defense.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I did hear this on a national
- 38:06[SPEAKER_01]: Last year was the first year in the history of the NFL, at least, or as long as they've been tracking, that explosive plays were more correlated to winning than turnovers were.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm probably a little bit more of the explosive shocking.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: That is absolutely freaking shock it.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: I had an entry level actual student guy applying for an entry level job company that told the story before I'd air, but he said, you know, I did a study when I was in college.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: I was looking at fumbles and interceptions and interceptions, it turns out are more closely correlated to wins.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_00]: when you get them on defense and and I had to kind of hold back a smirk at that point and ask why do you think that is I think he wanted this long double talk explanation that didn't make any sense, but the truth is very simple.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's just interceptions occur primarily when the trailing team is going to come back.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_00]: So it's really simple what the correlation.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm absolutely shocked by the explosives, versus turnovers thing.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: It may be a case of, I'd like to look into the reason behind that more, but there are many fewer turnovers in the NFL than they used to be, particularly intersections.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_00]: And with fewer interceptions, if you're correlating fumbles that might occur at any time with a diminishing slice of interceptions to go with that, then you're overweighting fumbles relative to what it used to be, and you might get less correlated.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still surprised.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I was surprised too, obviously.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's been the main state, the benchmark of this, whether it's on our battle.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but and also at one time of possession as we're talking about it is a second you know as the main topic here So, you know, I hope the team can hit explosives in the first quarter and second quarter to give them a lead I hope they can hit explosives in the fourth quarter if they're chasing points and I hope they can also grind the clock away in the second half on the protective lead But anyway really your questions from both Eric and Brad It was a really good topic and I'm a little bit cut to discuss it here
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, appreciate you guys, both.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to be able to, I don't think to get to all these questions.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get a couple more and then we're going to have to push some off the next week.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: I apologize to some of the people who are getting the one week shunt here.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_00]: But Kirk Ruddick said, question about Wiggins.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: Why groin surgery this year instead of before, what have you seen at camp?
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so Wiggins, basically, the backstory this is, gut groin surgery this year.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: Told us about it at the podium the last time he was up there.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, I feel great.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: First time in my career.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: that I really felt completely healthy.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I guess he was dealing with this growing thing and you know, we're not getting details on this growing surgery, but that's kind of the background to this question.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, apparently he's been dealing with it since he was in college and I guess he was playing through it and he decided to go ahead and get the surgery.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: There are certain surgeries that have long-term consequences, I'm not a surgeon, I'm not a doctor, I don't want to speculate, but from all reports before this injury he was really becoming one of the lockdown, the best lockdown corners around.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's, I'm excited about how he might be better.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: So that's great.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know,
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: a trust his own judgment frankly on getting that surgery because I think he would have put it off for as long as possible.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: So he's probably saying, I just can't put it off any longer when he when he did have the thing.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: It could have been just a general, you know, some people have quality of life surgeries.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not that kind of guy.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'll put up with a lot before I'll go under the knife because I'm so, you know, resistant to that.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm the same man.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: I've never
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I don't have to talk about those are coming.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, for you, you're a little younger than me, but they're all coming.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I hope not.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's see, the next question from Andrew Gantzis will get to this one.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: Can you get Rasmus Larson on to analyze hopefully's eight, eight podium answers?
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the can.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to do that tomorrow on Friday.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: As you're listening, and Rasmus and I are going to have that discussion.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: So we're seeing if there is a regular thing that people enjoy.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he's take a listen to that, but he's a clinical psychologist from Sweden who has a lot of Sweden.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think a Sweden in that Norway.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Sweden.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: And remember from the, because this World Cup team was doing well.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, that, that, you know, he, he, he, and Norway did end up doing better by the way, but Sweden won the first game, and that's why I, I, I, I had this.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, he, he did a great job talking about some of Jesse Mitchers, old interviews, and he'd been back to them going all the way back to Michigan.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: He'd done a lot of studying of them.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: He had a lot of thoughts about them.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a good, it's a fun discussion, it's also something that I think could be a repeating thing, you know, studying what people say at the podium, there's a lot of information that slips away from us and I just think, this is definitely something I want to do.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate a question, Andrew.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm looking forward to hearing it.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking forward to hearing it, can.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a, I'm a model and defender.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think his takeaways last season,
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: Conoract a lot of his portfolio, the other team in our sections two years in a row, he was still punchin' the ball out, getting fomples.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I look forward to hearing that.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: Appreciate it.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'll wrap it up here.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: We may have a couple questions in Eric.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry we left a couple years on the table here, but we'll get to the next week up for our office.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_00]: Voss always a pleasure doing this show with you.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_00]: Let's tell folks about your new business venture.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: can pleasure is all mine.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I purchased due to its butcher shop in Essex, about six weeks ago now.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: I rebranded it as heritage meat markets, what we've been Friday's and Saturday's for retail service.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_01]: I encourage anybody to call ahead and at 4,687, 1,400.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_01]: for special occasions.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_01]: For freezer meat, I break down a whole side or high in quarter for you.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Our quality is unsurpassed, our freshness is unsurpassed, beef, poultry, pork, and seafood.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: And definitely for the tailgators out there, I'd love to give you some high quality cuts to take them to the lots for sure.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_00]: That really sounds like a market for your product.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: You have your open on Saturday and sounds like making people 2,000 burgers or something in the highest quality then that they can take to the park the next day would really be something.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, brisket, short ribs, steaks.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: We make six different kinds of sausage in house.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: It should really marry well with the tailgator, so I hope to see them.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I appreciate you, Vassad.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: And as always, I appreciate the listeners as well.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: Please use film study, mailbag at gmail.com for your questions.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_00]: You can also still use the old moniker on Twitter as well.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: But you're sure to get your question in if you go that way.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then my wife will be watching the watch of the box
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: For Vassarica, this is Kenvicusix and goodbye.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk to you next week on Friday morning GM.
