Transcript
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the High Level Wife podcast.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I'm Chelsea Holm, your hostess, and here we do Marriage God's Way.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And if you caught my last episode, it was about the kid that was exceptionally rough with my son for football, uh, unsportsmanlike conduct.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: But here I wanted to pull you back from those moments that can be super emotionally charged and give you a big picture of the truth that our God fights for us, that you don't have to get out there and like do God's bidding for him in the sense of like defending yourself, right?
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Like there's a difference, and I think that we miss this in our culture, right?
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Like, there's a difference in what David did, right, of facing Goliath.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: He wasn't defending himself or even defending Israel, he was calling out the enemy who was defying God Himself, right?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Like, there's a difference in those kinds of battles versus when you know your kids are wronged or you're wronged.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Now, don't don't get me wrong that God hates injustice, he wants wrongs righted, right?
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: God, but God is the one who says, vengeance is mine.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I want to pull you back and just remind you that God fights your battles for you.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: There have been so many times where, you know, I wanted to jump to my defense, but you know what?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: The Holy Spirit has done a mighty work in me and continues.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Like this is what the Holy Spirit's job is to sanctify us, right?
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: To make us more like Christ every single day, but also enables and equips us with the ability, right?
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: It's not of ourselves, it's the divine power within us, not just to destroy strongholds, but to actually make wise decisions, godly decisions.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And you have a culture around you that says go fight your kids' battles for them, and even your own battles, right?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Um, but that's not the God that we see in the Bible.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: That's not who God is.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: God fights for us.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: We don't have to get out there and defend ourselves.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: We don't have to get out there, you know, and try to make or bring justice to our cause, right?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Again, those are different kinds of battles.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Now, the Bible does call us to the aid of those who are weak, to the aid of those who are poor, to the widowed and the orphans, right?
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: We are called to serve them, to care for them, to tend to them, right?
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: To the brokenhearted.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: But again, that's a different battle.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And so, in the instance with my son, I wanted to bring this full picture for you that, yep, God did go fight this battle for us.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: This kid got benched.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: You know, my husband thinks that he probably should have been kicked out for unsportsman like conduct, especially if this is a character thing that he continues to display.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: But you know what?
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: That's that's not up to us.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Um, in my mind, God fought this battle for us.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: I did not need to open my mouth, I didn't need to defend myself or my son or anything.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: I gave my heart to the Lord and let his peace and patience wash over me in those moments when I wanted to go, you know, have a few choice words with these parents.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, and but I didn't because the Holy Spirit enabled and equipped me to be able to keep walking, to walk away, to let it go, to give it to God and be able to truly let it go, you know?
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I wanted to pull you back and challenge you to first of all ask yourself the question of whose battle is this, right?
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Who who's being attacked here?
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Is it is it the Lord or is it me?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Am I feeling the need to defend myself or am I defending those the Lord has called me to defend?
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Or am I defending those or God Himself?
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Am I defending God Himself, right?
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Um and even if you get an answer to those questions that yes, this is a righteous cause, yes, this is something that angers the Lord, yes, right, you still have to submit it to the Holy Spirit.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: You still have to be in submission to God Himself.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Um, there is a time to speak and there is a time to remain silent, and you need to know the difference.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: And the only way that you're gonna know that difference is if you are submitted to the Holy Spirit working in and through you.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: You are asking for wisdom, practicing discernment, and that is the fruit, that is the fruit of the spirit at work in you.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Well, it's rarely going to make sense to you, and it's rarely gonna make sense to the world around you.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: I would probably go as far as to say it's never gonna make sense to the world around you, right?
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: But those are some good questions to ask.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: We have to pause, right?
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: This is where right order comes into the picture, which is what high-level wife and high-level husband are built upon, which our life should be built upon, is that it's God first, right?
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Seek first the kingdom of God.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Matthew 633.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Like, are we slowing down enough to have the right order in the life first and foremost, so that everything creates is an overflow from the source himself.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: So then we have the wisdom to pause, to filter through these questions and answers, and to sit before the Lord with things, understanding that God is never a God that like hurries us and rushes us, right, into something.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Like God is a God of order and peace and patience and stillness, right?
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: He brings order to chaos, right?
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: He he never causes or comes from a place of chaos, right?
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Where the world's like, hurry up and decide now, because if you don't decide now, then you know, whatever, yada yada yada.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: But no, God is like, do you trust me?
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Follow me, right?
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Like, that's what he does, and we can never, as long as we're being obedient and seeking him, we're not gonna miss what he has for us.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, like God is so gracious in that.
- 7:36unknown: Right?
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: It's always better to pause and to sit with the Lord in something than it is to rush into something thinking that we are fighting the Lord's battle when God's like, no, the battle belongs to me, I will deliver the victory.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: I don't need you out here doing this, right?
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Look in the Old Testament, at any time um God's people would go to battle with someone, or that that he that God had not said, do this.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: And it didn't go well for them.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Like that that was the whole thing with Saul after the Lord's presence had left him, that he he was not finding, he was not getting success in any of the things that he undertook, right?
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: So so this moral of the story is here that not all battles are the same.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And the most important thing is that we're implementing right order so that as real life situations come up in real time, we can walk with the Holy Spirit in the spirit through those situations and understand that we can trust God that if it's a battle worth fighting, he will fight it for us.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Or also he will give us the prompting to speak and to do according to his name and for his glory and for his purposes.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: I'll see you on the next episode.
