- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:09Speaker 1: talk about netball and we talk about so much more.
- 0:12Speaker 1: But there's really not much more to be talking about
- 0:14Speaker 1: now because this is Georgie Horges's world and we're all
- 0:17Speaker 1: just living in facts. I'm Carolyn Swindell, I'm Catherine Coxon.
- 0:21Speaker 2: That's the smartest thing I've ever heard you say.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Oh, Army's allies, and I'm happy for Georgie Hodges to
- 0:26Speaker 3: own the world until I.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Decided goalkeeper passes to here. All right, so there you go.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Very good.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yeah, what a game?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Hey, what a game.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It is Monday morning now, or is Monday lunchtime actually,
- 0:36Speaker 1: but still recovering from that last quarter of netball was
- 0:40Speaker 1: just extraordinary on Friday night, and there's more.
- 0:43Speaker 2: To come and I'm going on Wednesday night. I mean,
- 0:45Speaker 2: the good thing is it's like seventeen is a big
- 0:47Speaker 2: margin and the fact that it was Australia's highest ever
- 0:50Speaker 2: score against Australia. We'll unpack that in a minute too,
- 0:52Speaker 2: because that's that, to me is next level. When you
- 0:54Speaker 2: think about the teams and the talent and the amount
- 0:58Speaker 2: of games that's gone before that, they finally, you know,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and still breaking records like that when they're changing their
- 1:04Speaker 2: lineups and all the rest of it and.
- 1:06Speaker 4: No supershot and no supershot. Correct.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But I think the good thing for New Zealand is
- 1:10Speaker 2: they were in it for three quarters.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It was amazing, you know, it was deep in the
- 1:14Speaker 1: fourth quarter before I could unclench.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it was amazing.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah. And then Karen Berger, their captains come out and
- 1:21Speaker 2: said mental fatigue is where they got them and given
- 1:25Speaker 2: everything they've been through, so we'll see it could be
- 1:28Speaker 2: a completely different side. I don't think they're starting seven.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Was the seven they should have gone with New Zealand
- 1:35Speaker 2: and they've got more to give there.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Who would you have had on?
- 1:38Speaker 2: I wouldn't have had Salmon on for as long. I
- 1:40Speaker 2: think start a fine, give her a crack, but young.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I don't think she did enough to take pressure off
- 1:45Speaker 2: Wiki and then that was her lowest. She was outscored
- 1:48Speaker 2: by everybody, and you don't often see that from Grace.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So I think if they have a goal attack that's
- 1:53Speaker 2: a bit more maybe experienced, a bit more demanding. I
- 1:56Speaker 2: think it need a bit of speed. Georgia Heffnan didn't
- 1:57Speaker 2: play at all. She's probably there better goal attack option
- 2:01Speaker 2: and kattuur VARDI was a bit shocked she didn't start,
- 2:04Speaker 2: so that may happen, but I think that'll take a
- 2:06Speaker 2: lot of the pressure of Grace. So if I think
- 2:08Speaker 2: if they tweak some stuff, it could be a very
- 2:11Speaker 2: interesting game on Wednesday.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Tell you what, I'm really glad. I'm glad that at
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Grand Final we had a lovely dribbler who appointed
- 2:17Speaker 1: me an honorary Vixen's member, because man, how good you
- 2:22Speaker 1: know Kate Maloney, Sophie Garbin, Kira Austin. It's just these
- 2:28Speaker 1: slick They are just sharp, all of them.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So on the dribblers while we're quickly talking about it,
- 2:35Speaker 2: can I please say a big hello to all of
- 2:37Speaker 2: them that stayed until we'd finished the hosting at the
- 2:40Speaker 2: end of the game, So they stayed for half an hour.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Oh nice and waited to say hello to me, and
- 2:45Speaker 2: they were the I just love our community so much.
- 2:48Speaker 2: They are the nicest, funniest people. It was awesome. Did
- 2:52Speaker 2: they find.
- 2:53Speaker 3: You, Liz, No, Well, I was waiting for you when
- 2:55Speaker 3: I got bored so I left. So they're much nicer
- 2:57Speaker 3: than me.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I was like, I'm not waiting for her. I'm going home.
- 3:02Speaker 3: I'm gonna get up at five point thirty in the
- 3:03Speaker 3: morning to go home to watch junior cricket. So what,
- 3:05Speaker 3: And dribblers, you are a much better friend to Catherine
- 3:07Speaker 3: Cox than I am.
- 3:08Speaker 4: But I'll trying to fudd.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Tell us about the weekend you had. Please, You've run
- 3:12Speaker 1: Catherine and I through it, but I'm still I'm exhausted
- 3:15Speaker 1: listening to the weekend that you had.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I'm a bit tired too, But I don't
- 3:18Speaker 3: want to win because I'm sure there will come a
- 3:20Speaker 3: time when my kids had grown up and left home
- 3:23Speaker 3: that I'll be a bit like, Oh, I love those weekends.
- 3:26Speaker 4: But AnyWho.
- 3:27Speaker 3: So I was in Melbourne for the game, and I
- 3:29Speaker 3: went down for some meetings beforehand.
- 3:31Speaker 4: So Friday was a massive day.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Thought about waiting for Coxy to say hello, went bug
- 3:35Speaker 3: of that for a bunch of bananas, and went off
- 3:36Speaker 3: and went to bed because I was up at five
- 3:38Speaker 3: thirty am on Saturday morning. Got an early flight back
- 3:43Speaker 3: to the Gold Coast. Actually flew as I flew in,
- 3:45Speaker 3: I flew over my son's cricket game. He was playing
- 3:48Speaker 3: near Gold Coast, so I waved and he did not
- 3:50Speaker 3: wave back. So I thought that was rude, So I
- 3:52Speaker 3: went and watched him play cricket, and he's a couple
- 3:55Speaker 3: of years younger than everyone in his team, but he
- 3:57Speaker 3: was the second high scorer, so scored thirty nine runs
- 3:59Speaker 3: and took the weekend. So he was wrapped with that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Cricket's a bit of a rubbish game, though, isn't it
- 4:04Speaker 3: like if you play a bad shot. You know, in
- 4:06Speaker 3: our game, if you throw a bad pass, or you
- 4:08Speaker 3: miss a shot, or you miss an intercept, you're like, okay,
- 4:11Speaker 3: next time the ball comes down, I'll be better, right,
- 4:13Speaker 3: you think about the next thing. In cricket, you play
- 4:15Speaker 3: a bad shot, you're out. It's too bad, So sad
- 4:16Speaker 3: get off, like that's it. There's no opportunity to go, oh,
- 4:20Speaker 3: I know what I did. Then next ball, I'm right.
- 4:24Speaker 3: You get off and you've got another innings or another
- 4:26Speaker 3: week to think about that. So away watch cricket, and
- 4:29Speaker 3: then took him to a party of some friends.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Of ours, one of their little boy.
- 4:35Speaker 3: He stayed for a couple of hours, basically got there
- 4:37Speaker 3: in time for the pinard of the cake and swim
- 4:39Speaker 3: in the pool dagon pool, got him dressed, went to
- 4:43Speaker 3: rugby presentation, so both the kids. Their local club had
- 4:47Speaker 3: their rugby presentation. Everyone got most improved in her rugby team,
- 4:50Speaker 3: which was very exciting, so it was lovely for her
- 4:53Speaker 3: to get a there's one other girl. There's two girls
- 4:56Speaker 3: in the team, so that was exciting. Came home and collapsed.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Ate a pie for dinner on Saturday night, food a
- 5:01Speaker 3: champions got the next morning at seven went to watch
- 5:05Speaker 3: Evely and play Rugby seven's at Barron Bay all day
- 5:08Speaker 3: yesterday which sounds really fantastic, but we're just sitting on
- 5:11Speaker 3: a footy field. Got home last night, fell in a
- 5:13Speaker 3: heap here. I am happy days, so it was a
- 5:16Speaker 3: big weekend.
- 5:16Speaker 2: You are, you're totally allowed to have a pie for
- 5:19Speaker 2: dinner when you're knackd We call that a surprise plate
- 5:22Speaker 2: in our house. It's whatever you can find. It goes
- 5:25Speaker 2: on a plate with no.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Effort on a plate and you're not just eating directly
- 5:29Speaker 1: out of the fridge.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Sometimes as I can involved.
- 5:34Speaker 3: No eveyone works at a bakery, right, so happy days.
- 5:37Speaker 3: She brought home like ten pies. We had had a
- 5:42Speaker 3: small goas board of pies. It was fantastic pies and
- 5:44Speaker 3: a couple of beers. What is not to love so
- 5:47Speaker 3: big weekend, but very excited about the Diamonds game, and
- 5:51Speaker 3: I would like European Catherine, I felt even though it
- 5:54Speaker 3: was close, I felt like the Diamonds were doing a
- 5:57Speaker 3: terrific job wearing the silver ferns down. I felt I
- 6:00Speaker 3: always felt like they were going to run away with it,
- 6:02Speaker 3: just because the hands over pressure and you started to
- 6:05Speaker 3: see those mistakes coming when they tried to force the
- 6:07Speaker 3: ball along and it was fascinating. I was sitting next
- 6:10Speaker 3: to t gentlemen who Netball Australia partners, and they were
- 6:14Speaker 3: really invested in the game and it was actually, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 3: I totally love myself because I said to them that
- 6:21Speaker 3: midway through the third quarter, so I think Australia is
- 6:23Speaker 3: going to run away with this, and they're like, oh,
- 6:24Speaker 3: how do you know? And I said, well, just watch
- 6:26Speaker 3: the work that Jamie Lee Price is doing.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Right.
- 6:28Speaker 3: She won't show up on any stats. She's not pulling
- 6:31Speaker 3: in massive intercepts, but she's pushing the wing attack up
- 6:34Speaker 3: up the court, hands up over pressure, the whole line.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But Jamie Lee Price in particular was outstanding and just
- 6:41Speaker 3: creating that pressure that gave Courtney and Sunday the space
- 6:45Speaker 3: to do what they did and just and so of
- 6:48Speaker 3: course when the Diamonds run away with it, I was
- 6:50Speaker 3: a bit like, ah, I told you, sir, but did
- 6:53Speaker 3: you question feel yeah, yeah, exactly did you feel like
- 6:57Speaker 3: that to Uka from.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Where you were watching?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and Kate Maline to like, at the start
- 7:01Speaker 2: of the game, we were watching Mattie Gordon trying to
- 7:02Speaker 2: get free. She did maybe six or seven moves, and
- 7:06Speaker 2: Kate Maloney was on it every single time in the
- 7:09Speaker 2: first quarter. I thought, there's no in the world she
- 7:12Speaker 2: can sustain that. You can't do that for sixty minutes,
- 7:15Speaker 2: having to work that hard to get one ball, There'll
- 7:17Speaker 2: be cactus. So it was interesting here in Karen Berger
- 7:20Speaker 2: say mental fatigue. I also think they're just not as
- 7:23Speaker 2: fit as us.
- 7:24Speaker 1: That's what it looked like to me. It was a
- 7:26Speaker 1: fitness thing.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, no doubt that's played a part because
- 7:31Speaker 2: there's been a lot going on. We appreciate that. But
- 7:34Speaker 2: the Diamonds are fit and they will wear you down.
- 7:36Speaker 2: And it wasn't even their hands over stuff is because
- 7:39Speaker 2: that was exceptional as well. We mentioned that too, But
- 7:42Speaker 2: it's every ball's contested and then every pass has hands
- 7:46Speaker 2: over that is such solid workloads for defenders, isn't it
- 7:50Speaker 2: like to do that for a full game? And then
- 7:52Speaker 2: it does the cracks start to show. You could tell
- 7:55Speaker 2: they couldn't be bothered working it, or it was too hard,
- 7:57Speaker 2: or it just became taxing, and that's start to pivot yep.
- 8:01Speaker 4: And it was interesting, right.
- 8:02Speaker 3: So that's I always feel like every team that comes
- 8:06Speaker 3: up against Australia in a test series the first game
- 8:08Speaker 3: it's such a shock having to wear the body of
- 8:10Speaker 3: the whole sixty minutes. With a few days rest and
- 8:14Speaker 3: a bit of video analysis, I think you're right. I
- 8:17Speaker 3: think New Zealand will be better. I think the Silver
- 8:19Speaker 3: fans will be better on Wednesday night.
- 8:21Speaker 2: But I also think Australia will be better because they
- 8:24Speaker 2: You can tell at the start of a game when
- 8:25Speaker 2: you haven't played his own like that for a long time,
- 8:27Speaker 2: it does take you. It catches you off guard a little.
- 8:29Speaker 2: And we saw it was Liz Watson and Kira Austin
- 8:32Speaker 2: had the most turnovers in the first quarter because it's
- 8:34Speaker 2: just that, you know, trying to read and play and
- 8:36Speaker 2: getting used to it again. So I think they'll be
- 8:38Speaker 2: so much better for it as well.
- 8:40Speaker 4: And I thought.
- 8:41Speaker 3: I thought Liz Watson was outstanding. Didn't show up in
- 8:43Speaker 3: the stats, but she was really defended hard by their
- 8:46Speaker 3: silver ferns, and I thought their focus on her just
- 8:49Speaker 3: gave Kate Maloney all the space in the world to
- 8:51Speaker 3: do what she wanted. So the problem is you shut
- 8:54Speaker 3: one down the other one. Okay, I'll be whack a mole. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 3: exactly right. So if they split now and they go, oh,
- 9:00Speaker 3: one of us has got to focus on Kate and
- 9:02Speaker 3: one on Liz, well, then Lizzel step it and go, oh,
- 9:04Speaker 3: I've only got one defender on me now, I think
- 9:06Speaker 3: I might dominate. So it's a tough one to analyze
- 9:09Speaker 3: if you're trying to shut them down defensively.
- 9:12Speaker 2: It was good to see Georgie in her natural habitat
- 9:14Speaker 2: wing attacked for a game. I feel like that was
- 9:16Speaker 2: only off the back of Liz going off semi injured, though,
- 9:20Speaker 2: because I don't know that Georgie's role in that team
- 9:22Speaker 2: is ever going to be solely wing attacked, right, I
- 9:25Speaker 2: reckon she's going to mostly be in a goal what's
- 9:27Speaker 2: that role?
- 9:28Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 9:29Speaker 1: You know, I think it was absolutely right to just
- 9:31Speaker 1: let Sophie and Kira keep doing what you do with
- 9:34Speaker 1: Sophie Garbin is so strong. It's so incredible to watch her,
- 9:38Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Her standing elevation is nuts, just from a completely standing
- 9:43Speaker 2: still jump. It's so impressive. Yes, So I don't know
- 9:46Speaker 2: what they'll they'll definitely mix it up. I feel like
- 9:48Speaker 2: Stacey morenco which is going to have to mix it up.
- 9:50Speaker 2: This is the time to do it, isn't it. Do
- 9:52Speaker 2: you reckon?
- 9:53Speaker 3: I don't know so well, because when do you do it?
- 9:56Speaker 1: Otherwise for the game once you've sewn up I would
- 9:59Speaker 1: have thought get the con cut back and then the
- 10:01Speaker 1: fourth game have a play.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I don't know. I just feel like you can because
- 10:06Speaker 2: there's no weaknesses in our squad.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Be interesting to see Sarah Cloud get a run against Grace.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I was looking forward to seeing that, so I'd like
- 10:13Speaker 3: to see that in Sydney. But you're right, the squad's
- 10:17Speaker 3: got incredible depth. But I just feel like if you've
- 10:20Speaker 3: got the opportunity to put your foot down against the
- 10:24Speaker 3: ferns while they're a bit wounded, you sort.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Of have to do it.
- 10:28Speaker 2: So do you think exactly the same seven or you'd
- 10:30Speaker 2: change maybe one then keep your core?
- 10:33Speaker 3: What would you keep mcare and I might change one
- 10:36Speaker 3: just to see what happens. And this is the thing, right,
- 10:37Speaker 3: isn't it? Like you you sort of when you get
- 10:39Speaker 3: to a World Cup, particularly or a Conworth game is
- 10:42Speaker 3: the final. In the final, you're probably going to play
- 10:46Speaker 3: seven or eight players, so maybe you might swap one
- 10:48Speaker 3: out now to give them a run with the rest.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I don't know, it'd be really interesting. I don't actually,
- 10:54Speaker 3: I haven't even seen who the twelve are, so I
- 10:56Speaker 3: don't know if they've swapping into the twelve.
- 10:57Speaker 2: In or out either. I don't think the twelve out yet,
- 11:00Speaker 2: is it?
- 11:01Speaker 4: No, I haven't seen it.
- 11:02Speaker 3: But I got to say though, it's fascinating to see
- 11:05Speaker 3: that Australia scored its high score with a moving, largely
- 11:09Speaker 3: moving circle. Yeah, And I do wonder it'll be interesting
- 11:13Speaker 3: to see if over the next few years Australia sort
- 11:16Speaker 3: of pioneer that moved back to a moving circle and
- 11:18Speaker 3: we see the rest of the world follow or it's
- 11:21Speaker 3: just just unusual and you'll get back to a holding
- 11:24Speaker 3: shoot at some point, like Sophie Garvin holds. And I
- 11:27Speaker 3: was sitting right down on the baseline and it was
- 11:30Speaker 3: phenomenal to see the amount of work she does to
- 11:33Speaker 3: give Cures some space as well. It's just every part
- 11:37Speaker 3: of that game that every time I looked I focused
- 11:40Speaker 3: on a player during Friday Night's game, you could see
- 11:43Speaker 3: that they were doing their job, but they are also
- 11:44Speaker 3: doing the one percenters that don't get measured that set
- 11:48Speaker 3: their teammates up for success. And if you watch on
- 11:52Speaker 3: Wednesday night, just watch for that. Watch what happens off
- 11:55Speaker 3: the ball when someone gets in insept. Just be aware
- 11:58Speaker 3: of what's happening in front of them. When there's a
- 11:59Speaker 3: great play down the court, see he's running decoy. I
- 12:01Speaker 3: think when you watch the Diamonds from that point of view,
- 12:03Speaker 3: you see just how impressive they are.
- 12:05Speaker 2: It is fascinating just to solely focus on one person.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Yeah, you can't do that in commentary do that?
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you just know I've been caught before.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Well it's actually if Nepaul Australia could help me out here,
- 12:21Speaker 1: it's really helpful of Liz sits in that same spot
- 12:24Speaker 1: in every game because we focus on we do a
- 12:26Speaker 1: bit of Spotto, Lizzella Spotto in the crowd where we're
- 12:29Speaker 1: watching the broadcast at home, spoty there she is.
- 12:32Speaker 4: It certainly helps up my head's shiny silver.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So we play spotto for one player obviously in each game.
- 12:38Speaker 1: But she hasn't actually played in quite some time, or
- 12:41Speaker 1: has she has she been back on court recently?
- 12:44Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you, I am touchwood. I've survived
- 12:49Speaker 3: last Monday night, but I'm gearing up for tonight. So
- 12:53Speaker 3: I got to the courts and I saw all my teammates.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Or the mothers. The girls were all up.
- 12:59Speaker 3: They played in the game before as well as they
- 13:01Speaker 3: back up for our game. And I got there and
- 13:03Speaker 3: I dumped my stuff and I went there's an oval
- 13:05Speaker 3: next to the netball courts of Balana, and I went
- 13:07Speaker 3: to do a warm up, and I said, does anyone
- 13:08Speaker 3: else want to come and do a warm up? And
- 13:10Speaker 3: they all just laughed until they got stitches. So I
- 13:14Speaker 3: went off by my little pat Malone and did a
- 13:17Speaker 3: full warm up, just because I was very nervous about
- 13:19Speaker 3: hurting myself. But I don't know. We'll be plowed to yes,
- 13:24Speaker 3: so hopefully I don't sort of lose that enthusiasm through
- 13:28Speaker 3: the course of the season.
- 13:29Speaker 4: But it was so much fun.
- 13:32Speaker 2: There was a goal shooter bib On at one point.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Girl attack.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, someone asked me what my stats were, and
- 13:40Speaker 3: let me say I got a lot of rebounds. It's
- 13:43Speaker 3: probably the best way to describe it. I got a couple,
- 13:46Speaker 3: but it took me a few. Was the first quarter
- 13:52Speaker 3: the girls. So the fun of this is that the
- 13:55Speaker 3: four girls. There's four of girls who organize it and
- 14:00Speaker 3: playing with their mums. So two of the girls, Evelyn
- 14:03Speaker 3: and her mate Macy Macy's I coached them, and Macy's
- 14:06Speaker 3: organizing it. So Macy's trying to tell me what position
- 14:09Speaker 3: to play. So she told me I couldn't play goalkeeper,
- 14:11Speaker 3: and I said, please, I just want to play goalkeeper
- 14:14Speaker 3: for the first quarter, just while I get my bearings.
- 14:16Speaker 3: So I did that, and Evelyn played in gold efence.
- 14:18Speaker 3: So I loved playing in the circle with her and
- 14:20Speaker 3: telling her what to do.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 14:21Speaker 3: I told her that her and Allison Broadbank can compare
- 14:24Speaker 3: notes about being yelled at by me telling you where
- 14:26Speaker 3: to go, what to do, how to do it. And
- 14:28Speaker 3: then the next quarter they handed me the center bie.
- 14:32Speaker 4: It's like, oh my god, lots of running in center,
- 14:36Speaker 4: and I'm not very good at understanding.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Like the good centers pick and choose when they run,
- 14:40Speaker 3: they don't try and do everything everywhere all at once,
- 14:42Speaker 3: which I tried to do. So after that quarter I
- 14:45Speaker 3: had a quarter off just to catch my breast, and
- 14:47Speaker 3: then the last quarter they handed me the goal attack
- 14:50Speaker 3: bim and Macy who's organizing it. Who's fourteen. She's a
- 14:54Speaker 3: goal attack in my team on Saturdays. And I continually
- 14:58Speaker 3: tell her, Catherine, to aim for the little imaginary troll
- 15:01Speaker 3: that's sitting at the front of the ring. And so
- 15:05Speaker 3: then of course when I was shooting and missing, She's like,
- 15:07Speaker 3: aim for the little maginary trailer.
- 15:12Speaker 4: You're troubling me, you're the troll. Leave me alone.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Anyway, it was Funfortunately there was a woman in playing
- 15:17Speaker 3: goal shooter. What are the other moms who actually can
- 15:19Speaker 3: play goal shooter?
- 15:20Speaker 4: So that was good. It was fun though.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I loved it, and with the two two one too,
- 15:24Speaker 3: no less the rainbow two too. A little different from
- 15:27Speaker 3: the uniform I wore the last time I played, which
- 15:29Speaker 3: was a gold dress, but and on a hard outdoor court.
- 15:33Speaker 3: So oh, heaps of fun though, Like if you're considering,
- 15:35Speaker 3: if you haven't played, and you're considering about playing again,
- 15:38Speaker 3: and I've got to say, you know, seeing Bob Jarvis
- 15:40Speaker 3: on the court inspired me. I was like, right, Bob's
- 15:42Speaker 3: still playing, I can still play. So and on the
- 15:45Speaker 3: way home, I was a bit over excited and I
- 15:46Speaker 3: said to everyone, if you play sets next year, I
- 15:49Speaker 3: might play with you. And she was like, yeah, mom,
- 15:51Speaker 3: this this was not an ongoing Yeah, this is not
- 15:55Speaker 3: like an on train to something else. This is not
- 15:56Speaker 3: the gateway.
- 15:59Speaker 1: So when Harp was over here a couple of weeks
- 16:01Speaker 1: ago while we were recording on school holidays, she got
- 16:04Speaker 1: the unbridled joy of me coaching her the way I
- 16:08Speaker 1: coach my team, which is, I don't care what you
- 16:10Speaker 1: do about netball, but we're never versing anyone that does
- 16:13Speaker 1: not exist. That does not exist in the English language.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Versus is a Latin word, so we play against someone
- 16:20Speaker 1: or we're playing versus someone. And Harper was thrilled to
- 16:23Speaker 1: get this lecture.
- 16:24Speaker 3: If she's anything like her mother, she would delight in
- 16:26Speaker 3: a lecture about grammar.
- 16:28Speaker 2: So where do you stand on the versing?
- 16:31Speaker 4: I don't like it.
- 16:31Speaker 3: It jars my ear, but I've got too many other
- 16:34Speaker 3: things going on in my head to even think about that.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I'm more about focusing on passing and catching, and I
- 16:39Speaker 3: sometimes correct them as we go. But also I'm like
- 16:42Speaker 3: the English language is a malleable thing, Carolyn Swindle. Like
- 16:46Speaker 3: you know, if someone spoke to you in English from
- 16:48Speaker 3: a thousand years ago, you wouldn't understand them. And no,
- 16:51Speaker 3: sometimes I think when children who are ten years younger
- 16:54Speaker 3: than me speak to me, I don't understand children who
- 16:56Speaker 3: are ten years younger than ten years younger than you're
- 16:58Speaker 3: grown up. If you're a child now in the fourteen
- 17:00Speaker 3: and you speak to me, I sometimes don't understand you.
- 17:02Speaker 3: The later changes yeah, skibbitty skibbity six seven yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Six seven yeah, six, we're so cool. I love doing
- 17:13Speaker 2: that in front of her, in front of my kids
- 17:17Speaker 2: because the embarrassment on the face is just something you
- 17:21Speaker 2: can't buy. Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 1: In my six class last week, someone tried that on
- 17:25Speaker 1: me and it's like, I know.
- 17:26Speaker 3: What that is, you idiot.
- 17:27Speaker 1: So it was sort of like, you know, they were
- 17:29Speaker 1: trying to lead me down somewhere, thinking that this will
- 17:31Speaker 1: be funny for all of us because she won't know
- 17:33Speaker 1: what it is. And I just went six sevens.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Have you watched that video that it sort of started
- 17:39Speaker 3: on radio yeah or something?
- 17:41Speaker 2: No, I haven't seen it.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Well, I went down that rabbit hole. I was a
- 17:44Speaker 4: bit depressed. I was happy just to.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Come home to my farm mentally and go, oh, this
- 17:47Speaker 3: is much nicer here than downtown wherever they are ridiculous. AnyWho, Catherine,
- 17:59Speaker 3: speaking of your daughter, we forgot to follow up on
- 18:01Speaker 3: you here. No evils speak no evil, see no evil.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Challenge baking your baking challenge.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Well, let's just say it's never happening again. But there
- 18:09Speaker 2: was a massive false start. So firstly, so Harper had
- 18:14Speaker 2: their headphones on, which meant that I had the tape
- 18:18Speaker 2: across my mouth so I couldn't speak, and her friend
- 18:20Speaker 2: had the eye mask on so she couldn't see right,
- 18:23Speaker 2: so she couldn't read the instructions. I could read them,
- 18:27Speaker 2: but I couldn't verbalize them to anybody else. So Harper
- 18:30Speaker 2: the only person that can read them and say them
- 18:33Speaker 2: off with the fairies. So I had to stop at
- 18:36Speaker 2: the start and say, buddy, you are the one that
- 18:39Speaker 2: needs to run. So because she had the music on
- 18:42Speaker 2: in her headphone, so she's just dancing around the kitchen,
- 18:44Speaker 2: I'm like, can we all right happy to do this,
- 18:47Speaker 2: but let's put some rules in?
- 18:48Speaker 1: And then was she shouting it when it was.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Help shouting the whole way? So I kept going lower lower.
- 18:55Speaker 2: It was a train rack and then but the biggest
- 18:57Speaker 2: false start was the first thing on their recipe or
- 19:00Speaker 2: the instructions is obviously to preheat the oven, so go
- 19:03Speaker 2: to turn the oven on, and then realize it just
- 19:05Speaker 2: before I went to Dubai it broch oh, and I'd
- 19:10Speaker 2: completely forgotten about it. So I said, oh my god. Okay, well,
- 19:15Speaker 2: so we're going to have to put them in the
- 19:16Speaker 2: air fryer. But I didn't have any pans fit in
- 19:20Speaker 2: the air fry I had these. I found a couple
- 19:22Speaker 2: of tiny little ones. So we ended up having to
- 19:24Speaker 2: do one cake mixture in five of these little ones
- 19:26Speaker 2: and just cook them separate s. There was a train wreck,
- 19:30Speaker 2: there was crap everywhere, and then by the end of
- 19:33Speaker 2: it and me just telling her to stop yelling, I
- 19:36Speaker 2: was like, yeah, never again. When we get to decorating,
- 19:38Speaker 2: absolutely no chance that this is going to continue. There
- 19:41Speaker 2: was icing from there to there and sprinkles all over
- 19:45Speaker 2: the joint. So yeah, it was fun, but you need
- 19:47Speaker 2: to have somebody that understands how to communicate leading it.
- 19:52Speaker 1: It's not my child, absolutely not my child. She might
- 19:57Speaker 1: have learned some valuable lessons from it, though, think so
- 20:00Speaker 1: was it edible?
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yeah, we owed them sugary but edible. Okay, yeah, but
- 20:06Speaker 2: I need to get marve and fixed. But yeah, I'll.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Get on to that. Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Nice work, a baking challenge without an oven.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Anyway, we had our first game of spring com Monday
- 20:16Speaker 2: last week as well, and I think I told you
- 20:18Speaker 2: guys that I was going to let them play different positions. Yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 2: whatever they wanted to. And Harps had been nagging me
- 20:23Speaker 2: for goal shooter, so I let her play goal shooter
- 20:26Speaker 2: and she sunk most of our goals, got six of them,
- 20:30Speaker 2: and was actually surprisingly good because I think she's a
- 20:33Speaker 2: bit of a baby giraffe when she's an attack and
- 20:35Speaker 2: one just trips over her own feet and throws balls
- 20:37Speaker 2: away and stuff. She was actually quite good because I
- 20:40Speaker 2: threatened her that she had to concentrate. It was never
- 20:42Speaker 2: going to happen again. But every time she got a goal,
- 20:44Speaker 2: she'd look at me and be like, yeah, like doing
- 20:46Speaker 2: these some faces, Like ay, calmed down.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Like I thought this was meant to be hard.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Mum, Yeah, that's exactly what it was. It's please anyway,
- 20:58Speaker 2: So maybe she's back to goal shooter.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Oh, so is this a permanent move? Do you think
- 21:02Speaker 4: it's a permanent move? Seven?
- 21:07Speaker 3: I think we've probably just killed the whole six seventh
- 21:10Speaker 3: thing for every child.
- 21:11Speaker 4: So go ass.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Did either of you happen to do wordle last Wednesday?
- 21:31Speaker 2: Oh, specifically last Wednesday? I don't think so.
- 21:34Speaker 1: You're probably, but it should have been memorable. I'm pretty
- 21:36Speaker 1: sure you would have sent me a note if you had.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I've been sitting on this one for a week, and
- 21:40Speaker 1: it just goes to show that, you know, although we
- 21:43Speaker 1: speak English and the United States speaks English, and obviously
- 21:47Speaker 1: that word ll comes out of the United States, that
- 21:49Speaker 1: there are differences in the language that are fairly significant sometimes.
- 21:53Speaker 1: So the five letter word was for a word that
- 21:58Speaker 1: in the United States means annie, send up or no, no,
- 22:02Speaker 1: or a parody or something a spoof.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Oh my god, I would have Australia.
- 22:10Speaker 1: It's pronounced spoff and means something entirely different, doesn't it.
- 22:13Speaker 4: So I loved it. It was great.
- 22:15Speaker 1: It could have been fanny that it was almost that fun.
- 22:17Speaker 2: But were you thinking it could be that? But it
- 22:20Speaker 2: wouldn't be that? Did you leave it right the last
- 22:22Speaker 2: did you get it? Did you get it?
- 22:24Speaker 4: I got it?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Got me on the last one.
- 22:27Speaker 1: The double letters always go.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Letters, and I've got a double letter.
- 22:31Speaker 1: But yes, I enjoyed that, and I enjoyed remembering that,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know, we might speak the same language, but there's
- 22:39Speaker 1: vast differences in culture between our country and the United States.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought you were going to say that it
- 22:43Speaker 2: was funny the old fanny pack NOO's pretty funny.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I mean, some great, great ones there outstanding love it.
- 22:53Speaker 1: So can I ask something? There was something? There was
- 22:55Speaker 1: a kerfuffle during the week that seemed to reverse itself
- 22:57Speaker 1: within twenty four hours. But for a moment there looked
- 23:00Speaker 1: like Elmeray Vanderberg would not be able to play super
- 23:04Speaker 1: Netball next year in Australia because of something to do
- 23:07Speaker 1: with a governance issue with someone from the South African
- 23:11Speaker 1: Netball Board stepping off World Netball Board, and then a
- 23:15Speaker 1: lot of people thinking, well, that means South Africa is
- 23:17Speaker 1: out of everything and not playing in any international comps
- 23:21Speaker 1: and none of the players are going to be able
- 23:23Speaker 1: to play at all. And then within twenty four hours
- 23:26Speaker 1: World Netball had made a statement and sort of said,
- 23:29Speaker 1: doesn't look like you know, that looked like South Africa
- 23:31Speaker 1: has not been chucked out of anything.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Did you see this. Yeah, when I saw that, I thought,
- 23:36Speaker 2: how can they control someone coming to play over here?
- 23:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I get it.
- 23:41Speaker 2: If it's like a New Zealand sit up, so they
- 23:43Speaker 2: won't let you go back and play for.
- 23:44Speaker 1: You contru that would be a New Zealand making its
- 23:47Speaker 1: own decision about that.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Yeah. No, there'd be nothing stopping them coming to play here.
- 23:51Speaker 2: You just have to align yourself with the club. So
- 23:54Speaker 2: we would always have to be signed to an association,
- 23:57Speaker 2: wouldn't we. We'd always have to have membership whatever. What's
- 24:00Speaker 2: the wording I'm trying to say here, Oh, you have
- 24:02Speaker 2: to just read to sir with the club.
- 24:04Speaker 1: It's also sort of auspiced by that organization.
- 24:08Speaker 2: So yes, yeah, So even when I moved down to
- 24:10Speaker 2: the Vixen's, we had to then clarify who I was
- 24:12Speaker 2: registered with in South Wales as a club, and it
- 24:15Speaker 2: was Hills District, as I always had been. So there's
- 24:18Speaker 2: nothing stopping you from playing in Sun Super Netball as
- 24:21Speaker 2: long as you're registered to a club here, I would
- 24:23Speaker 2: have thought.
- 24:24Speaker 3: And she satisfied all the necessary visa requirements and that
- 24:28Speaker 3: sort of thing, so I don't know that. I don't
- 24:31Speaker 3: know that she would be prevented from playing super netball
- 24:35Speaker 3: because of whatever status of South African netball. And I
- 24:38Speaker 3: don't know, like I saw this, and I mean, I
- 24:41Speaker 3: don't know. There's been nothing officially to anyone from the
- 24:44Speaker 3: World governing body to say South Africa are canceled or
- 24:48Speaker 3: kicked out or anything. I know that's the wrong words,
- 24:49Speaker 3: but might have been just a bit of a Facebook
- 24:51Speaker 3: blow up.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Well, and that's what I thought was fascinating, is that
- 24:54Speaker 1: this thing got quite big, got some legs fairly quickly,
- 24:58Speaker 1: but it looked like it didn't have much in the
- 25:00Speaker 1: way of substance, which I guess validates our decision. We
- 25:05Speaker 1: don't talk about rumors here. We will acknowledge what's going
- 25:08Speaker 1: on in a conversation, but we don't sort of try
- 25:10Speaker 1: to add fuel to that fire. But yeah, it was
- 25:13Speaker 1: just very interesting. It's like, oh, what's happening here? Nothing
- 25:16Speaker 1: to see?
- 25:16Speaker 2: If you imagine the sweat coming down the back of
- 25:18Speaker 2: the Odelaide thunderbo, yeah, I know straight away.
- 25:24Speaker 3: So hang on, Carolyn, are you saying that sometimes things
- 25:27Speaker 3: on the interwebs don't have a factual basis, Well, look.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Liz, I no, it's a harsh reality for some of
- 25:34Speaker 1: us but I like to go back to a book
- 25:38Speaker 1: as a good source, and I'm going to use this
- 25:42Speaker 1: as an opportunity to give us an excellent quote from
- 25:45Speaker 1: my book Foolish Words. This did not come from the Internet.
- 25:48Speaker 1: This one's in ink and paper. So this is a
- 25:52Speaker 1: claim submitted to an insurance company, which I love. And
- 25:56Speaker 1: this is details of the accident in question. Coming home,
- 25:59Speaker 1: I drove into the wrong house and I collided with
- 26:01Speaker 1: a tree. I don't have.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Funny. Speaking of insurance things, there's the thing on TikTok
- 26:10Speaker 2: the other night there was a car that had stopped
- 26:13Speaker 2: in front of another car and then it reversed flat
- 26:17Speaker 2: chat into the one behind, and everyone got out holding
- 26:21Speaker 2: their necks and right, yeah, this back, this car at
- 26:24Speaker 2: the back out of dash cam, so the whole thing caught.
- 26:27Speaker 2: But can you believe that.
- 26:29Speaker 4: I know that's exact. Yeah, that is crazy, isn't it.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I I don't know why, but Catherine, if you've seen
- 26:35Speaker 3: that on if you've watched something like that on your socials,
- 26:38Speaker 3: you are going to get heaps of dash cam stuff.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Because I did it once and I get all the
- 26:41Speaker 3: dash cam stuff come up, and I love it. I
- 26:43Speaker 3: can't turn away when I see dash cam footage come
- 26:45Speaker 3: up of car accidents or people doing dumb things, and
- 26:49Speaker 3: you start you watch one, they're like, gremlins are just
- 26:51Speaker 3: multiplizing your feet.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Being attacked by animals.
- 26:56Speaker 2: He's still on that, still on that. Oh, can we
- 27:01Speaker 2: clarify something that the dribblers were asking about. So the
- 27:04Speaker 2: Constellation Cup now has always been four games, well not
- 27:07Speaker 2: always but lately, and if it was two apiece, it
- 27:11Speaker 2: would go to the holder of the trophy or aggregate
- 27:13Speaker 2: or whatever it was doing before. But now there is
- 27:16Speaker 2: a series decider time because people were still discussing that
- 27:21Speaker 2: how it played out, so I don't think it's clear.
- 27:23Speaker 2: So if it is to apiece, it goes on after
- 27:27Speaker 2: the last game has finished, the scores go back to level,
- 27:30Speaker 2: and then there is extra time played. So basically it's
- 27:33Speaker 2: just extra time at the end of that game, but
- 27:34Speaker 2: they put the scores back to level, they make out
- 27:37Speaker 2: like it's another game, like a game five, and it's
- 27:40Speaker 2: two seven minute halves. So and then if that's still drawn,
- 27:43Speaker 2: it's the first team up by two. So it's exactly
- 27:45Speaker 2: the same as the extra time rules. But that's how
- 27:47Speaker 2: they will find a winner of this, a clear winner
- 27:49Speaker 2: of the Constellation Cup.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Oh how exciting you got to a fourth time.
- 27:53Speaker 4: I love that.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Did it happened? I wouldn't know.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I want like this to go three nil and then
- 27:58Speaker 1: the Fourth Test it.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Can be whatever, right.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:02Speaker 3: I got to say I'm a bit the same as you,
- 28:04Speaker 3: Carolyn during the game the other night, and the gentleman
- 28:07Speaker 3: I was sitting next to said, oh, be great. It
- 28:09Speaker 3: was a rollercoaster ride and it was a really close match.
- 28:12Speaker 3: And I said, no, no, no, no, not at all.
- 28:14Speaker 3: I really want Australia to win by one hundred and
- 28:16Speaker 3: I'll take seventeen.
- 28:18Speaker 4: It's so much more enjoyable when the.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Now you're in your role.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Yeah, we don't want that.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Well, it wasn't enjoyable last year, you know, we didn't
- 28:26Speaker 3: quite have the results. But yes, it was much more
- 28:28Speaker 3: enjoyable on Friday night and not like the same level
- 28:31Speaker 3: of enjoyment on Wednesday night in Sydney.
- 28:33Speaker 1: I did not watch it in ideal circumstances on Friday
- 28:36Speaker 1: night because, as is tradition for me, I messed up
- 28:39Speaker 1: my scheduling and I was on at the Comedy Store
- 28:41Speaker 1: again last week, and as you know, I love performing
- 28:43Speaker 1: at the Comedy Store and Friday night, I did two shows.
- 28:46Speaker 1: I did a Ukraine fundraiser which was fantastic, and then
- 28:49Speaker 1: afterwards did the late show and I was on quite
- 28:52Speaker 1: late in that lineup. So I'm sitting up at the
- 28:54Speaker 1: back of the club with my tiny little phone on
- 28:58Speaker 1: silent watching watching it on Gayo Sports. And so then
- 29:03Speaker 1: I got to watch it again with your commentary on
- 29:06Speaker 1: Saturday morning, which was a delight. But that yeah, but
- 29:09Speaker 1: I was just I was very tense and probably ruining
- 29:12Speaker 1: the vibe in the comedy club.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Like yes, sorry, Ivanghing, I Sam Elizabeth, you're coming to Sydney.
- 29:22Speaker 4: I am coming to Sydney.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I've met wonderful to spot each other across the court again,
- 29:26Speaker 2: so two trips. Now, I didn't see her at all
- 29:28Speaker 2: in Melbourne either. Well I saw her across a neple court.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Well I took a photo of you. Yeah, I was
- 29:34Speaker 4: waving at you.
- 29:34Speaker 3: When so can we talk about the seventy five and
- 29:38Speaker 3: twenty fifteen teams getting acknowledged. So there was a function
- 29:42Speaker 3: before the game and it was so good. I think
- 29:46Speaker 3: Netball Australia now that you do this really really well.
- 29:48Speaker 3: So when it's a zero anniversary, so ten twenty thirty,
- 29:52Speaker 3: forty fifty you all get invited in. So we talked
- 29:55Speaker 3: last week about the ninety five team. This week the
- 29:57Speaker 3: nineteen seventy five team were in Morwen and then the
- 30:01Speaker 3: twenty fifteen team. So up on the stage in the
- 30:03Speaker 3: function beforehand, there was Joyce Brown who was the coach
- 30:07Speaker 3: of that seventy five team, and Mark Caldo who was
- 30:10Speaker 3: the captain, and then Laura Getz who was the captain
- 30:13Speaker 3: of the twenty fifteen team, and Lisa Alexander who was
- 30:16Speaker 3: the coach. But Mark Caldo was also the assistant coach
- 30:19Speaker 3: of the twenty fifteen She was too. Yeah, there's so
- 30:22Speaker 3: much crossover with these teams. You know, Plumb was in
- 30:25Speaker 3: normal Plumber was in that two nineteen to seventy five team,
- 30:29Speaker 3: but then she coached so many teams after that, like
- 30:32Speaker 3: she coached the two thousand and seven and eleven teams.
- 30:34Speaker 3: So they will come up at some point in the
- 30:36Speaker 3: next five or six years for reunions. And it was
- 30:40Speaker 3: so great. I loved Like Joyce and Mark Caldo were
- 30:43Speaker 3: recounting a story that their World Cup was played in
- 30:46Speaker 3: New Zealand and they got there and they'd been put
- 30:50Speaker 3: in these Army barracks, Like it's so funny. Right now,
- 30:54Speaker 3: we're planning for the twenty twenty seven World Cup and
- 30:57Speaker 3: we're really working hard to make sure that all the
- 30:59Speaker 3: teams get great accommodation and there's a minimum standard and
- 31:03Speaker 3: they get great food. And you know, we were laughing
- 31:06Speaker 3: last week about when we played in the ninety five
- 31:07Speaker 3: World Cup, were staying in a university in Manchester and
- 31:10Speaker 3: we just got this sloppy food every night, and if
- 31:13Speaker 3: you wanted the vegetarian option, you got put through the
- 31:15Speaker 3: ringer by the woman who was serving about whether you
- 31:17Speaker 3: were actually a vegetarian, and she starts who had had
- 31:21Speaker 3: meat the night before. It was always a competition to
- 31:24Speaker 3: say who could convince that they're a vegetarian. But you know,
- 31:27Speaker 3: you go back to seventy five and you know, man
- 31:30Speaker 3: Caldo and Joyce were telling the story about they they
- 31:33Speaker 3: got put somewhere in the middle of nowhere in these
- 31:36Speaker 3: army barracks and some of the girls thought they had
- 31:39Speaker 3: measles and they came up to Joyce and they were like, oh,
- 31:44Speaker 3: we think we've got measles, and Joyce was.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Like, no, I don't have a team.
- 31:47Speaker 3: And then they did some more investigation and it was Fleas.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Oh.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Now, so they had this awful accommodation that had Fleas
- 31:56Speaker 3: in it. And you know, Joyce said, you know what,
- 31:59Speaker 3: what the KIWI didn't sort of bank on was the
- 32:01Speaker 3: fact that had they given us nice accommodation and looked
- 32:04Speaker 3: after us, that might have taken the edge office. But
- 32:06Speaker 3: her abiding memory was of Chris Burton, who some people
- 32:09Speaker 3: would remember as an umpire through the nineties and early
- 32:13Speaker 3: two thousands, who had a big, booming voice and a
- 32:16Speaker 3: big presence, and you know, once they realized they've been
- 32:19Speaker 3: dealt such a raw hand, she was like.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Right, it's game on. And they just bulldozed everything in
- 32:24Speaker 4: their path.
- 32:25Speaker 3: And you know, they showed some of the video of
- 32:27Speaker 3: that game, and you know, the skills that these women had,
- 32:31Speaker 3: and they didn't have training camps together, and they didn't
- 32:34Speaker 3: have a heap of resources. Their skills given that were
- 32:38Speaker 3: amazing and they'd still hold up now fifty years later.
- 32:41Speaker 3: They are a phenomenal team, just amazing. Mag Molina was
- 32:45Speaker 3: in it, who Kath managed our team for a little
- 32:48Speaker 3: while and who wouldn't let you and I room together
- 32:50Speaker 3: for obvious reasons until the end of the tour.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Speaking of holding up well, though I looked at the
- 32:55Speaker 2: twenty fifteen team, all of them could have been on court.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Like they could play. Guys, you got up and I'm like, god,
- 33:02Speaker 3: why didn't I look like that? She's amazing, all of them.
- 33:08Speaker 3: I spoke to Kim Revegan after the game. I'm like, man,
- 33:10Speaker 3: you could play. She's like, no, I could not. Like, dude,
- 33:13Speaker 3: you could absolutely step up and play.
- 33:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:16Speaker 3: I mean she's not long retired from the Firebirds, but yeah,
- 33:19Speaker 3: it's they're all in ripping nick, they'll look fantastic. It
- 33:22Speaker 3: was great to see them all there.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Well, all that arms over ball things got to help you,
- 33:26Speaker 1: you know, stave off the tuck shop arms later on
- 33:28Speaker 1: in life. I would have thought, it's going to be
- 33:30Speaker 1: got to be good for that investment in your future.
- 33:32Speaker 1: That's not doing it an investment in your sleeveless future. Yeah, yeah,
- 33:37Speaker 1: hanging them up at home?
- 33:41Speaker 3: Can I ask?
- 33:42Speaker 1: Last week we were talking about Liz doing the dress
- 33:44Speaker 1: presso for Ash and you said, I have you not
- 33:46Speaker 1: done one before?
- 33:47Speaker 2: Who have you done? No? No one asked me, Oh, oh,
- 33:51Speaker 2: I thought you were.
- 33:52Speaker 3: That's what I thought for sure you would have because
- 33:53Speaker 3: I feel like just yeah, I've been asked before, but
- 33:57Speaker 3: there are games. There were games that I just couldn't
- 33:58Speaker 3: get to for whatever reason. Work down in the tear,
- 34:01Speaker 3: I've got to go to everything. So oh okay, well
- 34:03Speaker 3: I'll let stay. Sim Marinkovich know that you haven't done one.
- 34:07Speaker 4: It's so good it is.
- 34:09Speaker 2: It depends on when the debutants take to the court,
- 34:12Speaker 2: what state it's in, and then they'll try and get
- 34:13Speaker 2: someone in that Sandy I have been Oh maybe I
- 34:16Speaker 2: was asked to do one in Sydney once, but I
- 34:17Speaker 2: couldn't do it for some reason. I was probably doing
- 34:20Speaker 2: commentary or something. Because we've got to be about four
- 34:22Speaker 2: or five hours before.
- 34:23Speaker 1: The game, and they clearly want some specific more than
- 34:27Speaker 1: just you've played netball. It's like they clearly want to go, okay,
- 34:30Speaker 1: here is here's the reason that this person is being
- 34:32Speaker 1: asked to do the dress press over for you, which
- 34:35Speaker 1: I think is lovely.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Well in Australia, yeah, but when they're overseas on tour
- 34:38Speaker 3: often you just get not just you'd get someone from
- 34:41Speaker 3: within this staff who've played for Australia. So Nick Richardson
- 34:45Speaker 3: has played for Australia, so she would have done a
- 34:46Speaker 3: few I imagine if you've got a debutante who's overseas,
- 34:49Speaker 3: so yeah, it's Catherine.
- 34:51Speaker 4: We need to get you in there to do one.
- 34:53Speaker 4: It's really quite humble.
- 34:54Speaker 2: That would be nice. I would cry to you like
- 34:56Speaker 2: a baby on Wednesday's game.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Though.
- 34:59Speaker 2: There's of course new faces in this squad for this
- 35:03Speaker 2: series fifteen pins, so there was no ash irvn Dwyer
- 35:08Speaker 2: or Monday the other night. Do you think we'll see
- 35:11Speaker 2: any of those in I don't know, ash Irban. I
- 35:16Speaker 2: think it would be amazing on Grace as well.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's hard to know, right because you could see
- 35:20Speaker 3: that the Aussies just had their strategy was you don't
- 35:24Speaker 3: want to get in a one on one situation with
- 35:27Speaker 3: Grace because most of the time you're going to lose.
- 35:31Speaker 3: So they either went two on one against her and
- 35:34Speaker 3: just let Samon get the ball, or they went out hunting.
- 35:39Speaker 3: So if you put ashback then you might you might
- 35:43Speaker 3: see a change in tactics. For example, you know, just
- 35:46Speaker 3: let her sit one on one and let someday get
- 35:48Speaker 3: out on the goal attack.
- 35:49Speaker 4: So yeah, be fascinating.
- 35:51Speaker 3: I don't know, like who'd be select that that would
- 35:52Speaker 3: be just way too hard so hard.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I would love to see Sarah Klow up against Grace,
- 35:57Speaker 1: so because that's one that we haven't seen during the
- 35:59Speaker 1: supern Apples and where we've sort of seen everyone else
- 36:02Speaker 1: on Grace, but we haven't seen Sarah on Grace.
- 36:04Speaker 2: But she would know her better than anyone else obviously
- 36:06Speaker 2: training against So yeah.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely.
- 36:09Speaker 3: And then like if you bring Hannah Monday and who
- 36:12Speaker 3: you're going to drop out of that mid court because
- 36:13Speaker 3: Amy Pimenta came on and she is shorter than Jami
- 36:17Speaker 3: Lee Price, but her speed was.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Just yeah, and how hungry she looks so happy to
- 36:22Speaker 1: be back out there.
- 36:23Speaker 3: It was so lovely and she she just got on
- 36:25Speaker 3: and just ran like a jack rabbit. Right, So her
- 36:27Speaker 3: speed is so good through that mid court. So do
- 36:30Speaker 3: you need to leave her and to give her more
- 36:32Speaker 3: of a touch?
- 36:33Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 36:33Speaker 3: As like I said, he'd be a coach. It's hard
- 36:35Speaker 3: enough coaching fourteen's, let alone the Australian Diamonds.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Throw the bibs up.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Just focus on the versing. Don't just just just try
- 36:43Speaker 1: to stamp out the versing and then you've made.
- 36:46Speaker 3: The world a better place. Yeah, right, So I always
- 36:49Speaker 3: say if you look after the process the outcome or
- 36:52Speaker 3: take care of itself. Whereas you're and that seems to
- 36:56Speaker 3: be very conventional wisdom, Carolyn, whereas you tend to say,
- 36:59Speaker 3: if you look after the grammar, the outcome will take
- 37:01Speaker 3: care of itself. I've got to say, I haven't heard
- 37:03Speaker 3: a lot of high performance coaches.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Use that, So you could be onesting the nation, what
- 37:08Speaker 1: mark my words? And look, we saw you know, the results.
- 37:12Speaker 1: The proof was in the pudding this year for my
- 37:14Speaker 1: team on court. Wasn't it a completely consistent record across.
- 37:19Speaker 3: The what's your take on then meddling, you know in
- 37:24Speaker 3: the Olympics or the come with games. Meddling has been
- 37:27Speaker 3: turned into a verb.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, but versing would be the verb to verse, and
- 37:34Speaker 1: you don't verse someone, you play versus someone being the
- 37:38Speaker 1: Latin words. So I don't have a problem with meddling diarising.
- 37:42Speaker 1: It's not you know, these are modern words that I
- 37:45Speaker 1: don't necessarily use a lot myself. But I don't have
- 37:48Speaker 1: a problem. But I think versing is the verb of verse,
- 37:52Speaker 1: and that is to I don't know, to write poetry
- 37:54Speaker 1: about the other team, which I don't think is necessarily
- 37:57Speaker 1: the path to success either.
- 37:59Speaker 4: As we know.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Sorry, Hey, I did just my son played his first
- 38:08Speaker 1: ever game of basketball on Saturday.
- 38:09Speaker 2: He's seventeen.
- 38:10Speaker 1: He's a water polo player, but decided he just wanted
- 38:12Speaker 1: to do basketball this summer season. And so I said, well,
- 38:15Speaker 1: I'm coming down because I don't know when I'll get
- 38:17Speaker 1: to see you play again. And I know he won't
- 38:20Speaker 1: mind me saying.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Oh.
- 38:21Speaker 1: It was hilarious, like because there are all these kids
- 38:24Speaker 1: who've never played before, so they've got no natural sense
- 38:26Speaker 1: of the game. And after a while they were you know,
- 38:29Speaker 1: they've had a couple of training sessions. Obviously, after a
- 38:31Speaker 1: while they sort of they got a sense of what
- 38:33Speaker 1: they have to do because it's not hard basketball. Get
- 38:35Speaker 1: the ball down in the basket. Not one of them
- 38:38Speaker 1: could find that ball getting through that. That's a bird
- 38:41Speaker 1: basket though. Yeah, it was hilarious ballbucker.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Oh. So he's not really a land animal when it
- 38:46Speaker 2: comes to sport.
- 38:47Speaker 1: No, he's a really good water polo goalkeeper. I don't
- 38:50Speaker 1: know whether he will go back to that because it's
- 38:52Speaker 1: also going to be hot in summer playing basketball, which
- 38:55Speaker 1: is not the problem when when you're playing water polo.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Water polo. But I saw some.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Kids at their basketball training the other day doing tunnel ball.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Do you remember those those balls? Yeah, tunnel ball, captain ball,
- 39:05Speaker 1: leader ball, dot doesn't do them, She said she had
- 39:09Speaker 1: no idea what it was.
- 39:10Speaker 2: What's leadable?
- 39:11Speaker 1: So leadaball is you've got one person standing out the
- 39:16Speaker 1: front and then the team is in a line lined
- 39:19Speaker 1: up behind one another. Captain well, captain ball, they're lined
- 39:22Speaker 1: up across. So leadaball you're lined up and there in
- 39:25Speaker 1: a straight line. Yeah, but they're lined but that they
- 39:28Speaker 1: are perpendicular to the thrower, so you're throwing back and forth.
- 39:31Speaker 1: And captain ball, that's leader and leader ball is they're
- 39:35Speaker 1: standing one behind one.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Another and they run another ball. They're all in a
- 39:39Speaker 2: lot and the first one ducks down and then the
- 39:41Speaker 2: next one and then they duck down and then the
- 39:42Speaker 2: next one.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Oh wow, queens Queensland captain ball very different. Queensland captain
- 39:47Speaker 1: ball shoulder what yeah, I never.
- 39:50Speaker 4: Heard of that. Then what do you do to the end?
- 39:53Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Christ it's forty years ago.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Do they still run from the end up to the
- 39:58Speaker 2: other end? Yeah?
- 39:58Speaker 4: You must do?
- 40:00Speaker 3: Yeah, right, eh, Well we need to we need to
- 40:03Speaker 3: get some video footage. You need to do a little
- 40:06Speaker 3: captain ball tutorial for us. Yes, our captain ball is
- 40:10Speaker 3: you throw to the first person they ducked out. Hey,
- 40:14Speaker 3: quick question or quick comments, so you know you're talking
- 40:16Speaker 3: about basketball. Years ago I played basket. We played in
- 40:21Speaker 3: a mixed basketball competition and in our team there was
- 40:24Speaker 3: Jimmy Katrina Wagg so she played for the Diamonds in
- 40:27Speaker 3: that ninety one World Cup. Mary McCormick, who played in
- 40:31Speaker 3: the ninety five team, might have been Sharon Hill who
- 40:34Speaker 3: played for the Swift So there was a few of
- 40:36Speaker 3: us girls who got together and we got my husband
- 40:39Speaker 3: and two of his rugby mates to play with us.
- 40:41Speaker 3: And the rules were that in the first half only
- 40:45Speaker 3: the women could go in the key and in the
- 40:47Speaker 3: second half only the men could go in the key.
- 40:49Speaker 3: And every other team that we played against the men
- 40:51Speaker 3: were all basketball plays, so they would pile on the
- 40:53Speaker 3: points in the second half. But with our team, we
- 40:56Speaker 3: knew that if we went forty points up at halftime
- 41:00Speaker 3: with the ropey playing men in our team, we were
- 41:03Speaker 3: going to get pummeled.
- 41:05Speaker 2: It's the body controls.
- 41:06Speaker 3: The funniest thing, isn't It's so funny when you see
- 41:09Speaker 3: men like who play rugby trying to play basketball on netball.
- 41:12Speaker 3: You're like, oh, yeah, well, I just don't know that
- 41:14Speaker 3: this court's big enough for you.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Well do you remember we played the Swifts played a
- 41:18Speaker 2: grade a couple of years for in the off season basketball,
- 41:22Speaker 2: and we spanked everybody. I can't play basketball for shit,
- 41:26Speaker 2: But we realized you don't. You can just play netball.
- 41:28Speaker 2: You don't have to dribble. The dribbling and the running thing.
- 41:31Speaker 2: We know one got that down pad, but we're just
- 41:33Speaker 2: pass the ball. You just passed it. I have we
- 41:36Speaker 2: pumped everyone?
- 41:36Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 41:37Speaker 3: Yeah, just passed it with poor footwork. That's all we
- 41:39Speaker 3: had to do.
- 41:40Speaker 1: There's no traveling. Yeah that's good.
- 41:42Speaker 4: It was great.
- 41:43Speaker 3: It was heaps of fun. But yeah, no, I think
- 41:45Speaker 3: I'll stick to social netball now. I played social basketball
- 41:48Speaker 3: when I first came up to Ballino, and I don't
- 41:51Speaker 3: go very well at basketball the whole.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I never played a game at basketball never. It's just
- 41:56Speaker 1: I guess I don't know. I'm going to pick that.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Maybe my heart's got something with it that no one
- 42:00Speaker 1: ever thought we need to get this girl on a
- 42:02Speaker 1: basketball court. But it was never something at school that
- 42:06Speaker 1: was introduced to us.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Or anything like I love it.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Played hockey and you know, most other sports, but it
- 42:11Speaker 1: was like I guess in Queensland in the nineteen seventies
- 42:14Speaker 1: and eighties, so that the girls played netball and the
- 42:18Speaker 1: boys played basketball or something.
- 42:19Speaker 2: I don't know. Oh, I love it until someone comes
- 42:22Speaker 2: within three feet and then yeah, exactly, trying to get
- 42:25Speaker 2: the ball off, You're like, oh, stop that stops.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I did find that white ching Lewis on the weekend.
- 42:29Speaker 1: It's like, surely you're not allowed to stop touching him.
- 42:31Speaker 1: You can't do that. Get out of one another's face.
- 42:34Speaker 1: It's like, yeah they can. They could do whatever they would,
- 42:36Speaker 1: which I think is funny.
- 42:38Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Okay, so tip four Wednesday night.
- 42:41Speaker 3: I think Australia, but I think it'll be closer than seventeen.
- 42:44Speaker 3: I reckon seven by seven.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Not seven, but I think definitely closer ten. Okay, I'm
- 42:54Speaker 2: think much closer that I don't feel like that's.
- 42:57Speaker 4: What am I going to do.
- 42:58Speaker 1: I could go straight buy eleven and then anything above
- 43:02Speaker 1: that I'm correct, or I.
- 43:03Speaker 3: Could go So is this wheel of fortune rules?
- 43:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 43:06Speaker 1: So do I because I obviously don't want to go
- 43:08Speaker 1: in between the two of you, because then I have
- 43:10Speaker 1: to be the most accurate.
- 43:11Speaker 2: So I need to I'll go six and then you
- 43:13Speaker 2: can have more room, Liza, seven of everything above that.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll go eleven, then straight by eleven.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, Well this goes to air obviously a Wednesday,
- 43:24Speaker 2: So the games tonight. Get your tickets if you haven't
- 43:27Speaker 2: got them. People, if you're in Sydney, rock up and
- 43:30Speaker 2: buy a ticket because I'm pretty sure there'll be some
- 43:32Speaker 2: available at the door. Was out of it?
- 43:34Speaker 1: How could you miss this? Like having dodged what it
- 43:36Speaker 1: must have been like on Friday? What was the atmosphere
- 43:38Speaker 1: like in there?
- 43:39Speaker 5: It was unreal, sold out, brilliant and I appreciate to
- 43:43Speaker 5: Wednesday night could be a bit harder, but we used
- 43:46Speaker 5: to never struggle to sell out or get massive crowds
- 43:50Speaker 5: in Sydney.
- 43:50Speaker 2: So I don't know what's going on Sydney siders, but
- 43:52Speaker 2: get out there and it's the last chance you get
- 43:55Speaker 2: to Seeah or else.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Do I send everything to Buddy Brisbane and Adelaide. Come on, Sydney,
- 43:59Speaker 1: don't win you about not adding events. If we're not
- 44:01Speaker 1: going to get out there and support it, I'll be
- 44:04Speaker 1: there drinking a can of gin Brak.
- 44:06Speaker 2: The Dribblers were doing when they said hello to me.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Had some wines like now we had some ginzo.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Fantastic. I usually don't drink on a Wednesday night, but
- 44:16Speaker 1: I'll make an exception.
- 44:18Speaker 3: You asked nothing if not brave, Carolyn.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Yes, thank you. Well, you know this is I get
- 44:22Speaker 1: conflicted Australia in New Zealand playing because I'm a citizen
- 44:25Speaker 1: of both. But I'm pretty clear right that I want
- 44:27Speaker 1: the Diamonds to win this.
- 44:29Speaker 4: Are you still a citizen? Yeah?
- 44:31Speaker 1: Well, and I got my passport renewed a few years ago.
- 44:35Speaker 1: So remember it COVID kind of eclipsed all of this.
- 44:38Speaker 1: But remember the Christmas before COVID, how the whole country
- 44:41Speaker 1: was on fire for months, and you know, especially down
- 44:45Speaker 1: the south coast of New South Wales, it was horrendous.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Ohle buddy, it was terrible, And I thought, I wonder
- 44:50Speaker 1: if my children are ever going to want to exercise
- 44:53Speaker 1: their right to go and live in a country where
- 44:54Speaker 1: it's not on fire and there might be some water available.
- 44:57Speaker 1: So I went through the process then of getting my
- 45:00Speaker 1: New Zealand passport renewed and got their citizenship by dissent recognized.
- 45:04Speaker 1: So if they ever want to stand for Parliament, they'll
- 45:06Speaker 1: have to denounce it. But it's like I just thought, look,
- 45:09Speaker 1: I'll just lock that in for you guys, because it's
- 45:11Speaker 1: nice to have options, isn't it.
- 45:13Speaker 2: There's two Keiwis on this podcast.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I just.
- 45:16Speaker 3: I'm really excited to think about my continuation. Catherine, you're
- 45:21Speaker 3: not a Kiwi.
- 45:21Speaker 2: You were born now, I know. I did you never
- 45:25Speaker 2: ever admit to that normally, No, but it was only
- 45:29Speaker 2: just because.
- 45:30Speaker 1: You know solidarity. Yeah, yeah, No, I've never lived there.
- 45:33Speaker 1: So I was born there. Dad was doing his PhD
- 45:36Speaker 1: in the US at that time, and it was cheaper
- 45:38Speaker 1: for mum to fly to New Zealand to have me
- 45:39Speaker 1: than deal with because if anything went slightly wrong in
- 45:42Speaker 1: the US health system, obviously that would have bankrupted them forever.
- 45:45Speaker 1: So mum was there for a few months with her
- 45:48Speaker 1: mum and then flew back to the US. So I've
- 45:50Speaker 1: never and then we moved from there to Brisbane. So
- 45:53Speaker 1: I've spent more of my life in Idaho than i
- 45:55Speaker 1: have in New Zealand. But I do love New Zealand.
- 45:58Speaker 3: Yes, we love our Kiwi friends, but we do you know, Catherine,
- 46:02Speaker 3: Catherine did renounce so Kiwi passport due to immense pear
- 46:05Speaker 3: pressure from the new South Wales Opens team when she
- 46:08Speaker 3: first made it. So really they bullied you out of it?
- 46:11Speaker 4: Oh yeah, But then when.
- 46:13Speaker 2: I played for Australia too, I had to have an
- 46:16Speaker 2: Australian passport. Funny that, so I had to become a
- 46:18Speaker 2: citizen at that point because I had a Kiwi passport
- 46:21Speaker 2: before that.
- 46:21Speaker 1: You were a citizen until you played net for for Australia.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Well until I wanted to. Yeah, that's really interesting. Okay,
- 46:28Speaker 2: let's do that.
- 46:29Speaker 1: But the CAT it's not. It's not like parliament. There's
- 46:32Speaker 1: no rule that says if you'd want to play for
- 46:34Speaker 1: the Diamonds you have to renounce your dual citizenship.
- 46:37Speaker 4: Isn't there No? But I think you had to, didn't.
- 46:40Speaker 3: You have to be have an Australian passport when you
- 46:42Speaker 3: went to the AIS.
- 46:45Speaker 4: That was one of the requirements.
- 46:46Speaker 2: I feel like it was only ninety six when we anyhow, Yeah,
- 46:50Speaker 2: I'm not sure about it, but it got that sorted
- 46:53Speaker 2: out around about that time.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Well, I need to know because obviously if I get
- 46:56Speaker 1: selected for the Diamonds at any stage, I need to
- 46:58Speaker 1: know what my citizenship's status needs to be.
- 47:01Speaker 4: I think you can I don't know.
- 47:04Speaker 2: I didn't have jewel bow. That might have been okay,
- 47:07Speaker 2: I was just.
- 47:07Speaker 1: Imagine it must be because we have we have players
- 47:10Speaker 1: who were born in other countries and things, and most
- 47:13Speaker 1: sports are dealing with that, like there's a you look
- 47:15Speaker 1: at rugby, there's Scottish team and the Japanese team. They're
- 47:18Speaker 1: full of people who've grown up in Australia and New
- 47:20Speaker 1: Zealand and the Okay, so all right, we've all put
- 47:24Speaker 1: our tips in for this Wednesday night. It's going to
- 47:26Speaker 1: be a cracking game. Sydney, get out there, get around it.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Dribbler's show us are you going to have a gin
- 47:32Speaker 1: at home? If you're not going to the game, feel
- 47:34Speaker 1: free to show us on the Facebook page what it
- 47:37Speaker 1: is that you'll be And by being.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Otherwise, all three of us are going to be in
- 47:41Speaker 2: the same places. Occurred to me.
- 47:44Speaker 3: Just be crazy careful, that is crazy were the world?
- 47:48Speaker 2: Is this going to disrupt the space time continuum stuff?
- 47:52Speaker 2: The Diamonds, Dribblers come to see us. We're all in
- 47:56Speaker 2: the same place, at the same top. Can anyone jag
- 47:58Speaker 2: a photo with all three of us? Yeah? Where even
- 48:05Speaker 2: if it's a selfie unbeknownst to all of us in
- 48:08Speaker 2: the background, somebody has to do it.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you have to get a fighter with all three,
- 48:12Speaker 3: but where I'm sitting, I think you can't get to
- 48:14Speaker 3: So you need to do it with someone in the background.
- 48:16Speaker 1: If you can line us up like the planets in
- 48:20Speaker 1: one single photo and put on the Facebook group, I
- 48:23Speaker 1: will send you a piece of no dribble merch.
