- 0:18Speaker 1: Hey, this is Kirk R. Thatcher, the punk on the
- 0:23Speaker 1: bus in Star Trek 4. First of all, I hate you. Secondly,
- 0:26Speaker 1: you're listening to Movie Meltdown. And I.
- 0:39Speaker 2: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:41Speaker 2: Picture Association of America.
- 0:43Speaker 3: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It's showtime, folks.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Enjoy the show.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Our nuclear reactor, pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Hey, is this one of those comic book movies, man?
- 1:41Speaker 4: Oh, am I in Black Panther?
- 1:53Speaker 5: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:55Speaker 2: And I'm your fanatic, George.
- 1:56Speaker 5: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:58Speaker 5: the Oddity Studios for another Super Series session.
- 2:02Speaker 2: That's right.
- 2:04Speaker 5: It's been a little while. I was thinking earlier today,
- 2:07Speaker 5: I was like, was Thor the last one?
- 2:09Speaker 6: And it was.
- 2:09Speaker 2: It was, yeah.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Thor was.
- 2:11Speaker 5: I thought normally we kind of ease our way in
- 2:14Speaker 5: with whatever the last series was, which at the time
- 2:17Speaker 5: we talked about Ms.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Marvel. Right.
- 2:19Speaker 5: So we have not had any full on discussions about She-Hulk.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Nor Werewolf by Night.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Oh, that's true. Yeah, I think you brought it up
- 2:26Speaker 5: on one of the music when they're the Halloween episode.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I did, yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 5: But we, yeah, we haven't, I hadn't watched it at
- 2:31Speaker 5: the time. So I have seen it since then and
- 2:34Speaker 5: all of She-Hulk. So where would you like to begin
- 2:37Speaker 5: on those?
- 2:38Speaker 2: Well, definitely, I really enjoyed She-Hulk. I had to, of course,
- 2:42Speaker 2: you know, some people, you know, they know I'm the
- 2:44Speaker 2: Marvel guy. And so some folks want to talk to
- 2:46Speaker 2: me about, you know, shows upcoming or questions about And
- 2:49Speaker 2: so a lot of the things I would see is like, oh, well,
- 2:51Speaker 2: she's breaking the fourth wall just like Deadpool does.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Skrrt!
- 2:57Speaker 5: Hold up.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Miss She-Hulk was doing that shit in the 80s a
- 3:02Speaker 2: good five, seven or eight years before Deadpool was a
- 3:08Speaker 2: twinkle in his daddy's eye.
- 3:11Speaker 5: So.
- 3:12Speaker 2: She hulked it at first. But her schtick is different
- 3:15Speaker 2: than Deadpool's. Because Deadpool is actually doing schtick.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 2: He's making references. He's doing bits.
- 3:21Speaker 5: His is full-on comedy. And it's supposed to be. Where
- 3:24Speaker 5: she's just addressing the reader slash audience.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Right. And sometimes she's making social commentary, sometimes she's making jokes,
- 3:33Speaker 2: or sometimes she's literally ripping the pages out of her
- 3:36Speaker 2: own comic book because she's dissatisfied with what's going on,
- 3:39Speaker 2: and says, no, this is going to happen instead, and
- 3:41Speaker 2: she literally did that in her own show.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Well, what's funny is I would get, because they didn't
- 3:48Speaker 5: really do a ton of it, so I got towards
- 3:51Speaker 5: the end there, and I was like, you know, they're
- 3:53Speaker 5: barely even doing this break in the fourth wall thing
- 3:56Speaker 5: until we got to that last episode. And I was like, Oh,
- 3:58Speaker 5: did they also realize they haven't been turned? They're like, Whoa,
- 4:01Speaker 5: we're saving up. We got to get it all in,
- 4:03Speaker 5: in this last episode. Cause then it goes off the
- 4:05Speaker 5: rails in that last episode.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And I think it's sometimes it is subtle. And sometimes
- 4:09Speaker 2: she does, you know, big things or whatnot, or like,
- 4:12Speaker 2: you know, she's ripping out their own, her pages of
- 4:14Speaker 2: her comic book threatening. If you don't buy this, I'm
- 4:16Speaker 2: going to tear up your X-Men comics or something like that.
- 4:18Speaker 2: You know, you know, stuff like that. So it, You know,
- 4:21Speaker 2: she's always kind of had that little bit, too. But
- 4:23Speaker 2: it is kind of subtle. But there's, like, a lot
- 4:26Speaker 2: of times, too, like, a lot of the, you know,
- 4:28Speaker 2: whether she's breaking the fourth wall, it's the commentary in
- 4:31Speaker 2: the episode that's going on. And She-Hulk was the best
- 4:34Speaker 2: place for that to get, like, women in the workplace
- 4:37Speaker 2: sort of commentary. Social commentary on... You know, how a
- 4:41Speaker 2: woman should appear, how she should act, how she should
- 4:44Speaker 2: be sexually involved and stuff like that. So we're just
- 4:47Speaker 2: hitting all those nails on there. So you knew this
- 4:50Speaker 2: show was going to piss off a whole lot of incels.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And it did. It did.
- 4:56Speaker 5: I certainly wasn't pissed off. I enjoyed it every step
- 5:00Speaker 5: of the way. But I also got to a place
- 5:03Speaker 5: by the end of it that I'll also kind of
- 5:05Speaker 5: come back to somewhere down the line here. By the end,
- 5:08Speaker 5: I was like, where are we going with this show?
- 5:11Speaker 5: And I know it was trying to do something different.
- 5:13Speaker 5: And I think it was successful in trying to be
- 5:15Speaker 5: a different format. It's trying to be, it's a half hour.
- 5:19Speaker 5: It's a sitcom, kind of. It's a workplace sitcom, sort of. Like,
- 5:23Speaker 5: it is breaking a fourth wall. Like, it's doing a
- 5:26Speaker 5: lot of different things that the other ones weren't doing.
- 5:29Speaker 5: But it also, like, I don't know that we were
- 5:32Speaker 5: getting anywhere. So, like, I wanted a little more of, like,
- 5:36Speaker 5: Where are we going with this show? And I know
- 5:39Speaker 5: the other one sometimes focused too much on trying to
- 5:42Speaker 5: thread the needle for the next thing and get this
- 5:44Speaker 5: going and put this arc into place. And, like, she
- 5:47Speaker 5: wasn't worried about the majority of that stuff. But, like,
- 5:50Speaker 5: I feel like it needed a little more of direction
- 5:53Speaker 5: of where it was going by the end of it.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Because then it wrapped up with its crazy ending and
- 5:56Speaker 5: I was like, well, that was enjoyable, but... Had I
- 5:59Speaker 5: not watched that entire run, I don't know that it
- 6:02Speaker 5: would have been that big a deal. Not just in
- 6:04Speaker 5: the Marvel, like, oh, I'll miss out, but also just personally.
- 6:07Speaker 5: I'm like, it was fine. I liked a lot of
- 6:09Speaker 5: parts of it, but I don't know that I got
- 6:11Speaker 5: so much out of it that like, oh my God,
- 6:14Speaker 5: how can I not have watched this show? I was like,
- 6:17Speaker 5: it was fine. I enjoyed it.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I think we're kind of getting to the precedent now
- 6:22Speaker 2: where some of these shows are coming out and they're
- 6:25Speaker 2: merely an introduction to the character or a certain piece
- 6:28Speaker 2: of the Marvel Universe that we haven't seen before.
- 6:30Speaker 5: There's a lot of that going on that, again, I
- 6:32Speaker 5: will get back to.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Yeah, we're definitely seeing that much more in Phase 4
- 6:37Speaker 2: than we've seen previously because, again, like I've said before,
- 6:40Speaker 2: we're rebuilding the team again. We're rebuilding the world after
- 6:44Speaker 2: the events of Endgame, essentially. There are no more Avengers.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Tony Stark is dead. Captain America's retired an old man now,
- 6:52Speaker 2: you know? Thor's kind of.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Off doing his own thing. He might be the only
- 6:58Speaker 5: one kind of coming back. Maybe. Possibly.
- 7:00Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'll see him come back for the
- 7:02Speaker 2: big stuff.
- 7:03Speaker 5: If he doesn't kill himself on his new series. Did
- 7:05Speaker 5: you see the new Hemsworth series?
- 7:08Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Where he's going to potentially kill himself.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Limitless.
- 7:11Speaker 5: So I guess if he survives, he might be back
- 7:14Speaker 5: for the big movies.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I still want to watch that, though.
- 7:17Speaker 5: I still kind of. It's... Once again, him just... any
- 7:21Speaker 5: excuse for him to take his shirt off. And I'm like, well, no,
- 7:23Speaker 5: I get it. If I look like that, I wouldn't
- 7:26Speaker 5: own a shirt, I suppose.
- 7:26Speaker 2: I wouldn't own pants.
- 7:28Speaker 5: So, yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I'd be doing some Emperor's New Clothes kind of shit. Like, hey,
- 7:32Speaker 2: what's up?
- 7:32Speaker 5: I think he's just pulling an audience just like that.
- 7:37Speaker 2: But, you know, She-Hulk, it's kind of, here's the weird
- 7:40Speaker 2: thing about She-Hulk. In her own books, there really isn't
- 7:44Speaker 2: a larger plot. It is very much a workplace comedy.
- 7:47Speaker 2: It's kind of her life story. sort of thing like that.
- 7:50Speaker 2: She has some bad guys she fights, but when she
- 7:53Speaker 2: deals with the big shit, that's when she's an Avenger,
- 7:56Speaker 2: that's when she's the Fantastic Four.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:58Speaker 2: So she deals with the big shit over there, but
- 8:00Speaker 2: when she's in her own thing, she avoids that kind
- 8:03Speaker 2: of stuff because she wants to be a lawyer, not
- 8:06Speaker 2: a superhero.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Which may be why again the most enjoyable thing was
- 8:10Speaker 5: the crossover with daredevil so maybe the more she gets
- 8:13Speaker 5: involved with other superhero stuff the more i'll like her
- 8:16Speaker 5: involvement with it whereas by herself it was just kind
- 8:19Speaker 5: of like that was amusing but it didn't really do
- 8:21Speaker 5: anything but like adding him in and her and matt
- 8:24Speaker 5: hooking up was kind of fun and i was like
- 8:27Speaker 5: i could see this go somewhere let's get them like
- 8:29Speaker 5: a little sitcom together and they could have like a
- 8:31Speaker 5: mad about you with superheroes, you know.
- 8:33Speaker 2: And you know the funny thing is that, and the,
- 8:36Speaker 2: let's see, I mean, Daredevil has been around since the
- 8:39Speaker 2: early 60s. She-Hulk's been around since the late 70s, early 80s.
- 8:45Speaker 2: In the entire history of the two of them being around,
- 8:47Speaker 2: in the Marvel Universe, they have never been an item.
- 8:52Speaker 2: So for the shows to finally, like, Why have these
- 8:55Speaker 2: two never... They have the same fucking job. I mean,
- 8:59Speaker 2: it's not often you get... Captain America, when he's not
- 9:03Speaker 2: being Captain America, he's an artist. He does cartoons or
- 9:06Speaker 2: comics or whatever else. But it's like we've never had
- 9:10Speaker 2: two people that have the same damn job.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Especially one like that, where they go against each other
- 9:16Speaker 5: in the real world. You normally... That's the only way
- 9:20Speaker 5: you would meet them, is you'd be in a courtroom,
- 9:22Speaker 5: you know, arguing against each other.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Or, you know, some kind of legal advice, I think. But, yeah. So, yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 2: that was inspiring. But I love, too, the whole reaction. Like,
- 9:31Speaker 2: you know, there were a lot of fanboys who wanted
- 9:33Speaker 2: to protect Daredevil. Because, like, oh, he's a good Catholic boy.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I was like, um, yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 5: You know how you get all those Catholics? That's kind
- 9:42Speaker 5: of what you have to do.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and, like, he also has confessions. So, you know, but... Yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 2: and I love the whole return of the red and
- 9:50Speaker 2: gold suit.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Because, of course, you know, the TV.
- 9:53Speaker 5: The ketchup and mustard.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah, the TV fans have never seen this before, but
- 9:57Speaker 2: that was his... OG suit when he was introduced. Of course,
- 10:01Speaker 2: it looked more brownish in the comics, but they put
- 10:04Speaker 2: the gold in, or the red is a little bit better.
- 10:06Speaker 2: But yeah, he was rocking those colors for a little bit,
- 10:08Speaker 2: and they said, you know what, let's make this guy
- 10:10Speaker 2: all red, because he's a daredevil, devil, let's do the red.
- 10:13Speaker 5: It looks cool in the original series version, but yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 5: it's good to throw that in for the fans.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so... It also makes sense, too, that he would
- 10:22Speaker 2: want a new suit because if Born Again, the new
- 10:26Speaker 2: Daredevil series that's coming up next year, is supposed to
- 10:29Speaker 2: follow the events of the Netflix series, then he would
- 10:31Speaker 2: not want to go back to his traditional red and
- 10:33Speaker 2: black because Bullseye, if you remember the last season, was
- 10:37Speaker 2: running around in his colors killing people in the name
- 10:39Speaker 2: of Daredevil. So he doesn't want to look like Daredevil anymore,
- 10:44Speaker 2: even though he is Daredevil and he's hanging out in L.A.,
- 10:48Speaker 2: Which is kind of weird, you know? I mean, he's
- 10:50Speaker 2: done that where he's moved out of New York. There
- 10:52Speaker 2: was a whole run where he was in San Francisco
- 10:54Speaker 2: and he would wear, like, a red, like, three-piece suit. Like,
- 10:57Speaker 2: he didn't even wear the costume. He was doing Daredevil
- 11:00Speaker 2: shit and doing legal stuff, but he was like, I'm
- 11:02Speaker 2: not going to run around in the costume anymore. I'm
- 11:05Speaker 2: in a new city, new thing, whatever else. So, yeah. But, yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 2: I did thoroughly enjoy She-Hulk. The whole... kevin feige thing
- 11:13Speaker 2: and kevin being his big ai robot that was inspired.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Again it is amusing but in amusing in only a
- 11:21Speaker 5: way that they could have come up with on this
- 11:23Speaker 5: entire giant journey like it's not something you could write
- 11:26Speaker 5: without this whole stupid crazy trip we've been on so
- 11:30Speaker 5: he had a little hat too he had it it
- 11:32Speaker 5: was at least fun from that.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Angle Yeah, and of course, she's dropping like, oh, where's
- 11:38Speaker 2: the X-Men? Because that's what every fan wants to know.
- 11:41Speaker 2: It's like, we want the X-Men.
- 11:43Speaker 5: We can't afford them.
- 11:44Speaker 4: What are you talking about?
- 11:46Speaker 2: Oh, they're coming.
- 11:47Speaker 5: They're coming. Deadpool will sucker Logan back, but other than that,
- 11:51Speaker 5: we can't afford him.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Well, I was going to say, this movie here dropped
- 11:55Speaker 2: a huge bomb that a lot of Marvel fans, the
- 11:58Speaker 2: comic fans, were expecting, and we were granted that boon
- 12:02Speaker 2: as well.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Jumping to the very end?
- 12:05Speaker 2: No, no, no. Not jumping to the very end. Not
- 12:06Speaker 2: even that one? Not even that one. We'll get into
- 12:09Speaker 2: it when we start talking about the movie. Okay. The
- 12:12Speaker 2: interesting thing I've seen about some people talking about Black
- 12:15Speaker 2: Panther is it's been well-received. People enjoy it. Some people
- 12:19Speaker 2: enjoy it more than others. The ones who don't enjoy
- 12:21Speaker 2: it as much, I don't think, realize how many things
- 12:24Speaker 2: they did in this movie that are setting you huge
- 12:28Speaker 2: precedences for the real world kind of stuff. Now we're
- 12:32Speaker 2: talking like big cosmic kind of stuff, but like real
- 12:35Speaker 2: world kind of shit. You know, like they kind of
- 12:39Speaker 2: dropped the ball in the last Spider-Man movie when basically
- 12:42Speaker 2: like Stark Tech's getting raided and now Stark Tech's on
- 12:45Speaker 2: the open markets. Yeah. They kind of dropped the ball
- 12:48Speaker 2: with saying how big of a deal that is. They
- 12:50Speaker 2: dropped a couple bombs in this movie. One being a
- 12:53Speaker 2: very real world thing, one being kind of going into
- 12:55Speaker 2: the superhero kind of stuff that are huge.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 2: So, but yeah, we'll get into those in a sec.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Well then, my only other wrap up is I really
- 13:04Speaker 5: liked Werewolf by Night. I watched it maybe.
- 13:10Speaker 2: On Halloween?
- 13:11Speaker 5: Like it was right there at Halloween. And I love
- 13:14Speaker 5: the black and white. I love the look of it.
- 13:17Speaker 5: And I really liked the characters. So it is one
- 13:19Speaker 5: of those... I do want to see by the end
- 13:22Speaker 5: we get our like almost buddy comedy. I'm like, I
- 13:25Speaker 5: want to watch these two. I don't care what they
- 13:27Speaker 5: get into. This is going to be great. So I
- 13:29Speaker 5: also like Elsa Bloodstone.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 5: I like that they add her in and she's got,
- 13:35Speaker 5: she's already building this relationship with them. So I really
- 13:37Speaker 5: want to see kind of the three of them get
- 13:39Speaker 5: into crazy adventures. So yeah, I'm definitely hoping we see,
- 13:44Speaker 5: and I'm assuming they wouldn't make this if they didn't
- 13:46Speaker 5: have a plan. So I'm assuming we will see more
- 13:48Speaker 5: of all three of them.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I would love that as well. It does kind of
- 13:52Speaker 2: set in some nice precedences. The wonderful thing about Werewolf
- 13:57Speaker 2: by Night is if you've never seen any of the
- 13:58Speaker 2: Marvel stuff, you don't know an Avengers or Spider-Man or
- 14:01Speaker 2: whatever else, you can go into this movie completely cold
- 14:04Speaker 2: and enjoy yourself.
- 14:05Speaker 5: It definitely works on its own.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, especially if you enjoy like the universal monster kind
- 14:11Speaker 2: of movies. Because it definitely is a throwback to that.
- 14:14Speaker 2: But I love the fact, because it's in black and white,
- 14:16Speaker 2: you can get away with a lot more gore in
- 14:17Speaker 2: this movie.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 2: It's bloody. It's bloody as all hell, but it's all
- 14:21Speaker 2: black and white.
- 14:22Speaker 5: So you don't see the red, it makes it fine.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I love about how we handle violence
- 14:27Speaker 2: in this country. Oh, if we just take the red
- 14:29Speaker 2: out of it, it's okay.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Well, that's true, because they'll always switch anything that's like
- 14:33Speaker 5: some sort of mutant or an alien. You make it green,
- 14:36Speaker 5: it can be as gory as you want. You can
- 14:38Speaker 5: rip arms off and spurt blood out as long as
- 14:41Speaker 5: it's green blood. Suddenly, oh no, it's fine. Yeah. So, yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 5: as long as you change the color, it's only red
- 14:48Speaker 5: that somehow freaks people out. I'm like, it's the same thing. Whatever.
- 14:53Speaker 2: But, yeah, again, this movie does set up some fun precedents, though, because, okay,
- 14:59Speaker 2: it obviously sets up that, you know, Ted, the man thing.
- 15:03Speaker 2: They never call him the man thing in the movie.
- 15:05Speaker 2: They just call him Ted because his name is Ted, actually. But,
- 15:08Speaker 2: you know, Ted and Jack Russell had worked together previously.
- 15:11Speaker 2: They knew each other, whatever else. But possibly they're working
- 15:15Speaker 2: either for or with some sort of organization because Jack,
- 15:19Speaker 2: he's kind of proven, is not a tech guy.
- 15:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Even though he had that little trinket that's supposed to
- 15:24Speaker 2: blow up the wall, he didn't know how to fucking
- 15:25Speaker 2: use it.
- 15:25Speaker 5: He didn't do it, right?
- 15:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:26Speaker 2: He didn't do it right. He didn't know how to
- 15:28Speaker 2: use it. So it's like someone gave him that and said,
- 15:31Speaker 2: use this to blow up the wall to get the
- 15:32Speaker 2: hell out. So they're working with somebody.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 2: And so, yeah. And of course, again, with Elsa, at
- 15:39Speaker 2: the end, she kind of gets the bloodstone. And I
- 15:41Speaker 2: love the whole... You know, kind of the homage to
- 15:44Speaker 2: Wizard of Oz. You know, somewhere where the rainbow is
- 15:46Speaker 2: playing and everything switches to color. Her day has changed.
- 15:51Speaker 2: She's now kind of the lead monster hunter. That's the
- 15:54Speaker 2: fun thing, too. For not knowing anything about these three characters,
- 15:59Speaker 2: they got them down very well, very quickly.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Yeah, and set up this universe so that we can
- 16:04Speaker 5: move forward with it and continue using all three of
- 16:07Speaker 5: those characters.
- 16:08Speaker 2: And I was kind of curious as to which version
- 16:10Speaker 2: of Jack Russell we were going to see Because over
- 16:13Speaker 2: the years, he's kind of been one of two things.
- 16:15Speaker 2: He's either been tortured by the fact that he's a
- 16:17Speaker 2: werewolf and is kind of not in control of things.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Or it's the later version where he is in control
- 16:23Speaker 2: of things and seems to be pretty okay about it.
- 16:25Speaker 2: He's accepted it and he's in control of the changes
- 16:30Speaker 2: and control of the abilities and the power. Unless he
- 16:33Speaker 2: gets horribly injured, then he does kind of go berserk.
- 16:35Speaker 2: But for the most part, though, he is in control
- 16:37Speaker 2: of the wolf and... He has accepted that as his
- 16:40Speaker 2: life and whatever else.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Well, and he's so downplaying everything. He's so calm about
- 16:45Speaker 5: the situation they're in for as much as he can be.
- 16:48Speaker 5: And he's not overselling how powerful he is. He's kind
- 16:52Speaker 5: of dorky, which is what makes him a likable character.
- 16:55Speaker 5: So I really kind of enjoyed him. We spend the
- 16:59Speaker 5: most time with him, really. So it's like I was
- 17:01Speaker 5: glad because I was afraid if we're setting this stuff
- 17:03Speaker 5: up and you bring in somebody who's super... self-serious and
- 17:06Speaker 5: tortured like we're not necessarily going to want to spend
- 17:08Speaker 5: time with him but he's really fun especially once we
- 17:11Speaker 5: get the him working with her and then our team
- 17:14Speaker 5: up by the end there.
- 17:14Speaker 2: So yep i want to see all three of them
- 17:17Speaker 2: yeah so um i haven't heard anything now granted uh
- 17:20Speaker 2: disney was uh pleased and also surprised with this with
- 17:25Speaker 2: the success of this one because it was widely streamed
- 17:28Speaker 2: had great reception critical and fan whatever else so I
- 17:33Speaker 2: haven't heard anything more about them delving into the Monsterverse.
- 17:35Speaker 2: At this point, the next kind of thing we'll be
- 17:38Speaker 2: seeing of that realm will be the Blade movie, whenever
- 17:41Speaker 2: that happens to be coming out. It's having a little
- 17:43Speaker 2: bit of production issues. They need a new director, and
- 17:45Speaker 2: apparently the star's not happy with the script.
- 17:47Speaker 5: That happens.
- 17:48Speaker 2: It does. So hopefully they get that stuff fixed, because
- 17:52Speaker 2: I'm really enjoying seeing Marshall Ali play Blade. I want
- 17:55Speaker 2: this to happen. I don't want it to be a
- 17:57Speaker 2: bad movie. So take your time with it. Do whatever
- 18:00Speaker 2: needs to be done. Just don't rush it. Let's get
- 18:01Speaker 2: it done right.
- 18:02Speaker 5: Make a good movie.
- 18:04Speaker 2: But I would definitely... What I would love is we
- 18:07Speaker 2: get once a year around Halloween time a new one-shot
- 18:11Speaker 2: of the monster. It doesn't have to be a cold
- 18:13Speaker 2: werewolf by night, but... Just a different monster-themed thing. A
- 18:17Speaker 2: new entry in that. So, you know... Bring us the
- 18:19Speaker 2: characters we know. Introduce some new ones. Because there are
- 18:22Speaker 2: a lot other... I mean, we got some tons of...
- 18:25Speaker 2: All the classic... We got Dracula. We got a mummy.
- 18:28Speaker 2: We got a Frankenstein.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 2: We got a guy... Here's the funny thing. We have
- 18:33Speaker 2: two different kinds of zombies in the Marvel Universe. We
- 18:35Speaker 2: have the traditional, old school, like he was kind of
- 18:40Speaker 2: almost like a voodoo kind of zombie. Like he wears
- 18:42Speaker 2: this medallion that has resurrected him. And he has a
- 18:44Speaker 2: bit of supernatural abilities. But he is technically a zombie.
- 18:47Speaker 2: But he doesn't like eat people. Then fast forward to Mr.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Robert Kirkman of Walking Dead fame going into the MCU going, hey,
- 18:56Speaker 2: you know what would be fun? If we create an
- 18:57Speaker 2: alternate universe where there's a zombie plague going on so
- 19:00Speaker 2: we got zombie versions of our Marvel heroes eating people
- 19:03Speaker 2: but they also still have their abilities.
- 19:05Speaker 5: Which is one of my favorite What If episodes.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I loved that one. And they've made multiple entries in
- 19:11Speaker 2: the comics from the Marvel Zombies franchise. And of course
- 19:14Speaker 2: it's going to have its own show coming up too.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Another animated series. that's coming up, I think, in a
- 19:20Speaker 2: year or two. It's down the pike a little bit,
- 19:22Speaker 2: but it's being built. It's like, yes, this will be
- 19:25Speaker 2: a TV. This will be the first TVMA offering that
- 19:29Speaker 2: Disney will be putting out because you can't have a,
- 19:32Speaker 2: even with an animated, you still can't have a zombie
- 19:34Speaker 2: thing without having a lot of gore and.
- 19:35Speaker 5: Violence in it. Somebody's got to eat some brains and
- 19:37Speaker 5: chew on somebody's arm.
- 19:39Speaker 2: So we're going to get it. So if you love
- 19:40Speaker 2: that episode of What If, you're going to get a
- 19:42Speaker 2: whole series of that.
- 19:43Speaker 5: Oh, yeah. That was a lot of fun.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's a lot of other classic zombie guys.
- 19:48Speaker 2: I love to see that stuff. But the big rumor
- 19:51Speaker 2: is that Marvel realized that maybe we have a really
- 19:54Speaker 2: good device to use to introduce other aspects of the
- 19:58Speaker 2: Marvel Universe that we haven't yet. So they're like, well,
- 20:01Speaker 2: we're wanting to roll out mutants in a certain way.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Here's an idea. What if we do a series of
- 20:06Speaker 2: one-shots where we pick, like, six to eight characters within
- 20:11Speaker 2: the mutant universe that you cannot do a mutant universe without.
- 20:16Speaker 2: You have to have your Professor X, you have to
- 20:17Speaker 2: have your Magneto, you have to have your Jean Grey,
- 20:20Speaker 2: your Wolverine, and then pick whoever else. Sinister Apocalypse, Emma Frost,
- 20:27Speaker 2: Scott Summers, whoever else. Any other characters you want to
- 20:29Speaker 2: throw in there. But have them get their own individual
- 20:33Speaker 2: one-hour things to introduce you to them. See how, you know,
- 20:37Speaker 2: for the readers, what kind of changes they make to
- 20:39Speaker 2: introduce them to the MCU proper. And then once we
- 20:43Speaker 2: get into like the larger event stuff and you want
- 20:46Speaker 2: to bring these characters in, they're already there. You don't
- 20:49Speaker 2: need a proper introduction because you introduced them over here.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Which is, it's getting so out of control at this point.
- 20:57Speaker 5: Like as we're going to move forward here, like there's
- 21:00Speaker 5: so many different things at play and so many different
- 21:03Speaker 5: pieces in everything that Working towards something else, somewhere else. Again,
- 21:08Speaker 5: sometimes not even in the same medium. It is interesting
- 21:13Speaker 5: how the hell they can orchestrate all this and keep
- 21:15Speaker 5: any of it straight at this point. I know they
- 21:18Speaker 5: started that way, but it was a slow start. Whereas now,
- 21:21Speaker 5: they are knee-deep in so many different projects and in
- 21:24Speaker 5: different places that everything is working towards not one, but
- 21:28Speaker 5: five different things. It's a lot to keep up with.
- 21:32Speaker 4: It is.
- 21:32Speaker 2: And of course, I mean, this, you know, Black Panther
- 21:34Speaker 2: 2 basically is kind of the... Technically, we will be
- 21:38Speaker 2: getting the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special coming up.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Very soon.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yeah, later this month. Yeah, right before Thanksgiving. So technically,
- 21:46Speaker 2: that is the last thing in there. But... Movie-wise. Movie-wise,
- 21:52Speaker 2: Black Panther 2 is the culmination of Phase 4.
- 21:54Speaker 5: The end of the phase, yeah.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so... Ant-Man and the Wasp of Quantumania coming out
- 21:59Speaker 2: in February will be our first entry to Phase 5.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Phase 5 is kind of where shit starts to roll.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I think we're going to start seeing the greater plots
- 22:09Speaker 2: in play. I think we're going to start seeing all
- 22:12Speaker 2: of our pieces start to come together. Because that trailer
- 22:15Speaker 2: for Ant-Man itself is loaded. Yeah.
- 22:18Speaker 5: I got that too, so thankfully, yeah.
- 22:20Speaker 2: If you know what you're looking for, there's a lot
- 22:24Speaker 2: of stuff in that movie. And a lot of questions
- 22:27Speaker 2: that it's going to have to answer in pretense to,
- 22:30Speaker 2: you know, introducing Kang and then what he's doing in
- 22:34Speaker 2: the quantum realm.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Well, I definitely want to get to all those things.
- 22:37Speaker 5: So let's just get to the movie.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Yes, we will.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Get more out of life.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Go out to a movie.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Out, out.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Out, out.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Out of the night. Out, out. His people did not.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Call him general or king.
- 23:09Speaker 6: They called him Kukulkan, the feather serpent god.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Killing him will risk eternal war.
- 23:22Speaker 6: He's coming for the surface world.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Let me know what you whisper.
- 23:39Speaker 7: They have lost.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Show them who we are.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Lift me up Hold me.
- 24:45Speaker 6: Down This episode's.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Out on the Town feature is Black Panther colon.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Wakanda Forever.
- 25:25Speaker 5: The year is 2022. The director, Ryan Coogler, and the plot,
- 25:29Speaker 5: according to IMDb, the people of Wakanda fight to protect
- 25:33Speaker 5: their home from intervening world powers as they mourn the
- 25:37Speaker 5: death of their king, T'Challa.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Spoiler alert!
- 25:40Speaker 5: There's a lot of stuff going on here. I'm sure
- 25:42Speaker 5: we're going to ruin everything and have theories and thoughts
- 25:46Speaker 5: about a whole bunch of stuff in the future. If
- 25:48Speaker 5: you want to not have any of that ruined, hopefully
- 25:51Speaker 5: by now you've already seen it. Fair warning. Where to begin?
- 25:57Speaker 2: Well, I mean, that it's a very stark opening and
- 26:01Speaker 2: I was kind of curious how they were going to
- 26:03Speaker 2: do how they're going to kill him off.
- 26:04Speaker 5: That's what I was wondering if we were going to
- 26:07Speaker 5: come in and he's still around if we're and we're
- 26:10Speaker 5: kind of like it's kind of both like we're right
- 26:13Speaker 5: there at the moment of which is. And I didn't know, like,
- 26:16Speaker 5: are they going to, is he going to be in
- 26:17Speaker 5: the middle of a battle and get killed? Or they
- 26:21Speaker 5: went very real world.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Yeah, he had some sort of disease. They weren't specific
- 26:25Speaker 2: to what it was.
- 26:26Speaker 5: Yeah, which I mean, I kind of liked because, again,
- 26:29Speaker 5: you can attach it to Chadwick as much as you want.
- 26:32Speaker 5: If you want it to be like a tribute to
- 26:34Speaker 5: him that he also put up the same fight and
- 26:37Speaker 5: like that's. again, that's kind of nice because I feel
- 26:41Speaker 5: like you've got a whole bunch of people that were
- 26:43Speaker 5: really attached to this actor.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 5: And as much as they're invested in the character, they
- 26:48Speaker 5: really like this guy. And like, that was kind of
- 26:51Speaker 5: hard for everybody. The director, I feel like more than anyone,
- 26:54Speaker 5: like he almost scrapped the whole project because he was
- 26:57Speaker 5: so like this. He even described him as his hero,
- 27:01Speaker 5: you know, something like this, this was a really important
- 27:04Speaker 5: guy in not just this project, but for a lot
- 27:07Speaker 5: of people, In a lot of ways. So it's a
- 27:10Speaker 5: big thing to have to deal with at the beginning
- 27:13Speaker 5: of your movie. So it is interesting that they kept
- 27:15Speaker 5: it pretty close to reality from that angle. Yeah. And
- 27:19Speaker 5: also that that's one of the more realistic things I
- 27:22Speaker 5: liked because it's that thing that comes, you know, when
- 27:26Speaker 5: we finally got that Logan movie is like, yeah, you've
- 27:29Speaker 5: got all these powers, but eventually your body's just going
- 27:32Speaker 5: to stop. It's just going to give up. Something is
- 27:35Speaker 5: going to work its way through. you're going to get old.
- 27:37Speaker 5: You're going to get a disease. You're going to get
- 27:39Speaker 5: something that's not going to, no matter what your powers are,
- 27:42Speaker 5: can't save you. And you're still going to die like that.
- 27:45Speaker 5: That was like a pretty cold way to deal with this.
- 27:48Speaker 5: And like, that's life. So like, I do kind of
- 27:50Speaker 5: like a little bit of as unrealistic as many things
- 27:54Speaker 5: are in this movie. That's the harsh reality that, you know,
- 27:57Speaker 5: they're kind of dealing with coming into this movie. So
- 27:59Speaker 5: that's where we start.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Again, too. It's like, I, you kind of, Get a
- 28:06Speaker 2: good setup for kind of, you know, what Shuri's mindset
- 28:09Speaker 2: is going to be throughout the film. Like, she's going
- 28:10Speaker 2: to be blaming herself for not saving him in time.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 2: You know, sort of thing like that. But, yeah, I
- 28:16Speaker 2: knew that, like I said, I was curious how they
- 28:18Speaker 2: were going to do this because I knew going into
- 28:20Speaker 2: the film that he was not able to shoot anything. Yeah. Like,
- 28:23Speaker 2: literally his last performance was the two episodes of What If.
- 28:26Speaker 5: I was going to say, the voice work he did
- 28:28Speaker 5: for them.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that was literally his last performance for the MCU.
- 28:31Speaker 5: I was so glad they used all of that. Like,
- 28:33Speaker 5: they kept bringing him into other episodes. And I was like, well,
- 28:36Speaker 5: this is great because we actually get a lot with
- 28:38Speaker 5: his character, even though he was already well gone in
- 28:41Speaker 5: the real world at that point. So it was nice
- 28:43Speaker 5: to still have these little pieces. out there of this
- 28:46Speaker 5: same character and the same performance. And yeah, I liked
- 28:49Speaker 5: that we got a little of that, but nothing going
- 28:52Speaker 5: into this movie.
- 28:53Speaker 2: So, yeah, but yeah, so yeah, I just, it was
- 28:55Speaker 2: interesting set up with, you know, how they were going
- 28:56Speaker 2: to do things. Of course, you know, we knew that,
- 28:58Speaker 2: you know, this is definitely, you know, despite all the
- 29:01Speaker 2: other action and stuff that's going on, this whole movie
- 29:04Speaker 2: is basically a funeral dirge for, you know, not only T'Challa,
- 29:07Speaker 2: but for Chadwick himself. Yeah. You know, we proved that
- 29:10Speaker 2: when we got to the opening scene, marvel thing which
- 29:14Speaker 2: i thought was wonderful too because it's absolutely silent you're
- 29:17Speaker 2: seeing all of chadwick you know his you know images
- 29:20Speaker 2: and stuff like that the artist performances and the theater
- 29:23Speaker 2: itself was 100.
- 29:25Speaker 5: Silent yeah i was watching it going oh we've never
- 29:28Speaker 5: done this before but i was also like we've never
- 29:31Speaker 5: lost a lead either like we've killed the characters but
- 29:35Speaker 5: the actual actors are all still around This is the
- 29:38Speaker 5: first time we've had to deal with this.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we can still bring back Robert Downey Jr.
- 29:41Speaker 5: We can do a flashback or something. Yeah, we can
- 29:44Speaker 5: bring him back, but he's done now. So yeah, this
- 29:47Speaker 5: is the first time we've kind of addressed that in
- 29:50Speaker 5: the universe and our lives.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so even more so than what Stan Lee's tribute
- 29:56Speaker 2: to the Captain Marvel opening. This one hit Far more. Because, like,
- 30:02Speaker 2: you know, yes, Stan Lee laid the groundwork for many
- 30:03Speaker 2: of these characters and built a universe. Yadda Yadda, he
- 30:05Speaker 2: was also in his 90s. We kind of expected him
- 30:08Speaker 2: to get.
- 30:08Speaker 5: And his on-screen performances were all of five seconds sometimes.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Right, yeah. So you didn't spend.
- 30:14Speaker 5: As much time with him in the movies. In the
- 30:16Speaker 5: real world, plenty of people were invested in him.
- 30:18Speaker 2: And like you said, the audience itself, especially the African-American audience,
- 30:22Speaker 2: had such a deep connection to Chadwick. And he, they...
- 30:26Speaker 2: So it was such a reciprocal sort of thing like that.
- 30:30Speaker 2: It was just such a wonder. The whole social movement
- 30:33Speaker 2: when the first Black Panther came out, I was just
- 30:35Speaker 2: loving it.
- 30:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Absolutely loving it.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Well, and it wasn't just focus. That's what I think
- 30:41Speaker 5: I told on the show before. I saw a month
- 30:45Speaker 5: or so after this dorky teenage white kid wearing a
- 30:49Speaker 5: Black Panther shirt. And I was like, that's amazing. Like
- 30:52Speaker 5: that he crossed over enough to still bring in the
- 30:55Speaker 5: normal comic book kids. While at the same time, there
- 30:58Speaker 5: is this huge outpouring of, of, you know, everybody in
- 31:02Speaker 5: the black community. That's like, finally we have someone, we
- 31:04Speaker 5: have a superhero. Like, so the fact that it's still,
- 31:08Speaker 5: it didn't alienate any of the, the rest of the
- 31:10Speaker 5: dorky white kids that get their way in every other
- 31:13Speaker 5: movie out there. It's like, this still works so that
- 31:15Speaker 5: they were, you know entertained by it as a superhero
- 31:19Speaker 5: movie but at the same time it had this other
- 31:21Speaker 5: life and this other movement that kind of was inspiring
- 31:25Speaker 5: really so it's it's it's an impressive thing they did
- 31:28Speaker 5: in that first movie which makes this twice as hard
- 31:31Speaker 5: to kind of follow up on yeah i mean.
- 31:32Speaker 2: That's always been the inspiring and impressive thing about the
- 31:35Speaker 2: character of t'challa anyways like you know yes there have
- 31:37Speaker 2: been a lot of other black superheroes throughout you know
- 31:40Speaker 2: marvel and dc's history but t'challa is a king it's
- 31:44Speaker 2: like yes he's a superhero yes he's a human being
- 31:46Speaker 2: He is also a king. So he has that, you know, nobility,
- 31:50Speaker 2: that regal, that, you know, intelligence, that, you know, worldliness,
- 31:54Speaker 2: whatever else, that leadership that carries him that has so
- 31:58Speaker 2: much other stuff that brings with it. So, I mean,
- 32:00Speaker 2: he stands out even amongst his own superhero peers. Yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Even people who are far more powerful than he is,
- 32:07Speaker 2: they still, you know, they tip the cap to King T'Challa.
- 32:11Speaker 5: And he played it that way, too.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Which... again, is so impressive as an actor because within
- 32:17Speaker 5: that first movie, he's essentially the most boring character because
- 32:22Speaker 5: he's just... He's always put together. He's always... polished and
- 32:26Speaker 5: like ready to go where everybody else like his sister's
- 32:29Speaker 5: got all these goofy things and like everybody else they
- 32:32Speaker 5: bring in is way more entertaining whereas he is just
- 32:35Speaker 5: calm and collected and ready to take care of business
- 32:38Speaker 5: so it's like as an actor like you could definitely
- 32:40Speaker 5: put on way more of a show and get more
- 32:43Speaker 5: you know screen time and more in fun scenes but
- 32:46Speaker 5: I'm like he's just so reserved about it all that
- 32:49Speaker 5: I'm like man that is restraint for an actor to
- 32:51Speaker 5: be like it's okay you guys get all the thunder
- 32:54Speaker 5: and I'm just going to hold this movie together. That's impressive, again.
- 32:59Speaker 2: It's kind of a loss, too, because for anybody who's
- 33:01Speaker 2: a comic fan that knows, when we finally introduce Namor,
- 33:05Speaker 2: and of course we couldn't call them Atlanteans in the
- 33:07Speaker 2: movie because Aquaman beat us in the punch, which I
- 33:11Speaker 2: find is hilarious because the character of Namor the Sub-Mariner,
- 33:15Speaker 2: he's the original Marvel character. It's him and the original
- 33:20Speaker 2: Human Torch, which is an android, not the Fantastic Four guy.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Different character. Same powers, different character. Those... I mean, the
- 33:28Speaker 2: first issue of Marvel Comics that came out in the 40s,
- 33:31Speaker 2: those two guys are on the fucking cover.
- 33:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 33:34Speaker 2: So, it's like... Yeah, actually, there's Human Torch on the cover,
- 33:37Speaker 2: and then Amor's got his own thing there, too. But, yeah,
- 33:39Speaker 2: it's like, he is literally the two oldest characters in
- 33:42Speaker 2: the MCU, and so they had Atlantis, they had all
- 33:45Speaker 2: that kind of stuff, like, and now, you know, the
- 33:48Speaker 2: Aquaman movie came out, we can't do that. But, I
- 33:50Speaker 2: love the whole adaptation of the Mayan culture and... And
- 33:54Speaker 2: so we're basically calling it Talocon, which in my end
- 33:57Speaker 2: is Atlantis.
- 33:58Speaker 5: Is the real thing that they, yeah, they actually have
- 34:01Speaker 5: this theory once again.
- 34:02Speaker 2: But the fans were kind of, the movie fans were
- 34:05Speaker 2: cheated because seeing the rivalry of basically two kings in
- 34:10Speaker 2: the MCU is very interesting. Because in the comics, Namor,
- 34:16Speaker 2: as we see in this movie, kind of mirroring that
- 34:18Speaker 2: as well, toes that villain-hero line. He's both.
- 34:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:24Speaker 2: What he also is is probably the biggest asshole in
- 34:26Speaker 2: the Marvel Universe, overshadowing Quicksilver, who is the second biggest
- 34:33Speaker 2: asshole in the Marvel Universe. And these guys are supposed
- 34:35Speaker 2: to be heroes. But yeah, Namor is a dick because
- 34:40Speaker 2: he is so arrogant. He is so hypocritical because he
- 34:44Speaker 2: only cares about the surface world. When it suits him
- 34:47Speaker 2: or when he absolutely knows that what happens on the
- 34:50Speaker 2: surface will affect what happens in Atlantis.
- 34:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 2: 90% of the time, he is loyal to Atlantis, except
- 34:57Speaker 2: when they throw him out and then he wants us
- 34:59Speaker 2: surface rollers to give him a hand. Go screw yourself,
- 35:04Speaker 2: you arrogant ass. But yeah, Black Panther and Namor have
- 35:09Speaker 2: had huge conflicts over the years in the comics. To
- 35:14Speaker 2: one point, we're kind of very similar in the movie.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Atlantis floods Wakanda and kills hundreds upon thousands of Wakandans
- 35:22Speaker 2: in an attack. You know, an act of war, literally.
- 35:26Speaker 2: And so we have the two countries fighting each other. So, yeah,
- 35:30Speaker 2: they don't get along very well. Sometimes they do when
- 35:34Speaker 2: Namor's behaving himself and he's not causing trouble in Wakanda
- 35:37Speaker 2: and there's a larger threat where the Avengers have to
- 35:40Speaker 2: get together. And we've got to pull this asshole out
- 35:42Speaker 2: of the D-list as well. But... For the most part,
- 35:47Speaker 2: these guys do not like each other, and so we
- 35:49Speaker 2: would have probably seen a performance of Chadwick have to
- 35:52Speaker 2: lose his shit.
- 35:54Speaker 5: It is interesting because, yeah, in looking at stuff today,
- 35:58Speaker 5: getting this together, I was like, this is what they
- 36:00Speaker 5: were still planning for the sequel. Even when he was
- 36:04Speaker 5: going to be our lead still, this was going to
- 36:06Speaker 5: be the other story, the villain or whatever that they
- 36:09Speaker 5: have to go up against was still essentially the same thing,
- 36:13Speaker 5: which is where I have most of my issues. If
- 36:16Speaker 5: we want to get into that. I will say, and
- 36:20Speaker 5: this has happened a lot lately, it's become a very
- 36:22Speaker 5: trendy thing for people that do not care to just
- 36:26Speaker 5: trash Marvel movies because it's easy to do. Because they
- 36:30Speaker 5: are such a target at this point.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Sure.
- 36:32Speaker 5: That's the shorthand for a big dumb Hollywood movie.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Whatever, Marvel movies.
- 36:37Speaker 5: So I know and hear a lot of people that
- 36:39Speaker 5: just talk bad about Marvel for the sake of it.
- 36:42Speaker 5: Because it's easy. And they don't even pay attention to it.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Right.
- 36:45Speaker 5: Most of the time, but they will still go out
- 36:47Speaker 5: of their way to slam Marvel. Which I am not that, obviously,
- 36:50Speaker 5: because I keep talking about all these. But, if I
- 36:53Speaker 5: have issues with it, I have issues with it. So,
- 36:56Speaker 5: that's the first thing I will say is this, as
- 36:59Speaker 5: a movie, I think did a great job of being
- 37:02Speaker 5: a tribute. And helping, not just the characters, but the
- 37:07Speaker 5: audience to sort of deal with what happened. So I
- 37:10Speaker 5: think all of that is done really well, both in
- 37:13Speaker 5: our intro, and by the end of the movie, there's
- 37:15Speaker 5: a big tribute. So it's like we get both of
- 37:17Speaker 5: these that are really well done and I think really
- 37:21Speaker 5: tie it all together. My issue with it is I
- 37:24Speaker 5: don't care about the fish people.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Like, and as you said, it's legit old school Marvel.
- 37:30Speaker 5: It's not, but again, it's not just Marvel. I've said
- 37:33Speaker 5: that for years. I'm like, there's a reason everybody makes
- 37:35Speaker 5: fun of Aquaman because he lives.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Under the water and he talks to fish.
- 37:40Speaker 5: It's not, I don't know. To me, that's always a
- 37:42Speaker 5: weird thing sell and they've again both companies have their
- 37:46Speaker 5: own guy they've got millions of issues of this going
- 37:50Speaker 5: on but I'm like even as a kid I was
- 37:52Speaker 5: like I don't want to read about seahorses I don't
- 37:56Speaker 5: care so I feel like they're fighting that battle at
- 38:00Speaker 5: least for me I don't know if other people have
- 38:02Speaker 5: this issue but I feel like it's really not just
- 38:06Speaker 5: superhero movies in general it's really hard to take a
- 38:09Speaker 5: water battle of any kind and make it work You know,
- 38:13Speaker 5: even if you're trying to do something as coordinate a
- 38:16Speaker 5: fight scene, it's a million times harder underwater. If you're
- 38:20Speaker 5: making Thunderball, this is going to be difficult. If you're
- 38:23Speaker 5: making Waterworld, this is an uphill battle and it's probably
- 38:25Speaker 5: not going to go real well. So it's like everything
- 38:28Speaker 5: that's just trying to take a battle scene and do
- 38:31Speaker 5: it in the middle of the water. is really hard
- 38:33Speaker 5: to do and make effective. And I feel like they
- 38:36Speaker 5: fought with that this whole movie, in my opinion.
- 38:39Speaker 2: I have no problem with water movies and stuff like that.
- 38:44Speaker 2: I tend to enjoy them, and I enjoyed this one
- 38:46Speaker 2: as well. I think what's always been the intriguing difference
- 38:51Speaker 2: for me between Namor and Aquaman is the fact that Namor,
- 38:55Speaker 2: you can't trust him. Aquaman, yes. He's had to go
- 39:00Speaker 2: dark a couple of times. But for the most part,
- 39:02Speaker 2: he is a hero. Namor is not. Though he's billed
- 39:06Speaker 2: as one, not. Even sometimes to his own people, he's
- 39:11Speaker 2: not a hero. So that was kind of the intriguing
- 39:14Speaker 2: thing for me. And yeah, it's kind of weird. With Aquaman,
- 39:18Speaker 2: it's like, okay, again, they had to change some stuff
- 39:23Speaker 2: for Namor to basically not make him a Johnny-come-lately, which
- 39:27Speaker 2: is also irritating. because... It's not true. Very much like,
- 39:31Speaker 2: you know, basically Aquaman, his father was a sailor, you know,
- 39:37Speaker 2: in a coastal area, loved a merwoman, and they had...
- 39:41Speaker 2: Like you do. And they had Namor.
- 39:43Speaker 5: We've all had that happen.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but Namor doesn't date back as old as he
- 39:48Speaker 2: does to basically we're talking like the original Mayans and
- 39:52Speaker 2: the Spanish invading them and kind of wiping their culture
- 39:55Speaker 2: off the face of the earth sort of thing.
- 39:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:58Speaker 2: So he's not that old, but he is older than
- 40:03Speaker 2: many other Marvel characters. And as they dropped in basically
- 40:06Speaker 2: when the scene where Shuri is basically brought down to
- 40:09Speaker 2: Talocan and gets to see everything. Yeah. For one, he
- 40:13Speaker 2: drops the fact that he's essentially the first mutant, which
- 40:16Speaker 2: that is 100% accurate. That's the big thing, yeah. Okay. Yes.
- 40:21Speaker 2: That was established in the books about 20 years ago.
- 40:23Speaker 2: They're like, oh, wait a minute.
- 40:24Speaker 4: You know what?
- 40:25Speaker 2: It's like, we never thought about this guy before. Technically.
- 40:29Speaker 2: I can't remember which writer it was that came up
- 40:32Speaker 2: with it, but it was kind of like, you know, okay, he's,
- 40:38Speaker 2: you know, born with his abilities because, you know, he
- 40:41Speaker 2: was half man, half Atlantean.
- 40:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 2: So he was one of those, what do we normally
- 40:45Speaker 2: call those in the Marvel Universe?
- 40:46Speaker 5: Mutants. Oh, yeah, mutants.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Okay, well, he kind of goes back before World War II.
- 40:51Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Oh, okay, so he's the First Mutant then, huh? Oh, shit, okay,
- 40:55Speaker 2: I guess he is. Well, hey, guess what, Namor, you
- 40:57Speaker 2: got a new designation now. You know, you're Underwater Sea King, Asshole,
- 41:01Speaker 2: and First Mutant.
- 41:02Speaker 5: So there you go. But I feel like they, while
- 41:05Speaker 5: we're still on that train, I guess, I feel, And
- 41:09Speaker 5: it's what I was worried about going into this. When
- 41:11Speaker 5: I saw that that's the direction they were going with
- 41:13Speaker 5: the story and the villain, I'm just like, that's going
- 41:16Speaker 5: to be a lot of trying to make that work.
- 41:19Speaker 5: Because we've gotten pretty good at all the other Marvel
- 41:21Speaker 5: movies of like, okay, we're in a cityscape, we're out
- 41:24Speaker 5: in the field, it's people kicking each other's ass. So
- 41:28Speaker 5: in this one, as soon as I saw it, I
- 41:30Speaker 5: was like, you're going to have to find a way.
- 41:33Speaker 5: Either you're underwater doing bad water fights, or... every time
- 41:38Speaker 5: they fight you're gonna have to find some weird way
- 41:40Speaker 5: for them to jump out of the water and fight
- 41:42Speaker 5: on the land which is kind of what we keep
- 41:44Speaker 5: getting they just have to find a way every time
- 41:46Speaker 5: like where can we fight so that we can kind
- 41:49Speaker 5: of set this up like a more traditional fight but
- 41:52Speaker 5: they're water people so they really wouldn't be up here
- 41:54Speaker 5: but we have to find it just seems like you're
- 41:56Speaker 5: reaching by a couple of different times and i'm just
- 41:59Speaker 5: like was this a good idea i don't know again
- 42:04Speaker 5: i wasn't as over sold on the water people idea
- 42:07Speaker 5: but Okay, yeah, but fair enough.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but again, I knew going into it kind of
- 42:12Speaker 2: what some of these characters were going to do. But
- 42:15Speaker 2: the other thing this movie lays down is a couple
- 42:18Speaker 2: interesting things. One, they really nail home kind of the
- 42:21Speaker 2: Wakanda versus the world sort of thing, mentality.
- 42:24Speaker 5: And where it is now, where it probably wouldn't have
- 42:27Speaker 5: been this way if we still had our hero. But
- 42:31Speaker 5: him suddenly being gone, it's like, oh, now they... have
- 42:35Speaker 5: to coordinate all this without him around.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:38Speaker 5: And they're not doing very well.
- 42:39Speaker 2: That's kind of the interesting thing is that, you know,
- 42:41Speaker 2: traditionally in the Marvel Universe and the comics, you know,
- 42:44Speaker 2: I keep saying this phrase again, but I'm going to
- 42:45Speaker 2: keep doing this. But traditionally, Wakanda always was the outside.
- 42:50Speaker 2: And even though superheroes, namely the Avengers and the Fantastic Four,
- 42:55Speaker 2: knew of Black Panther and Wakanda and Vibranium, you know,
- 42:58Speaker 2: Cap's shield was built out of Vibranium.
- 43:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:00Speaker 2: So they knew about all this stuff, but it wasn't
- 43:02Speaker 2: something that was exploited to the Or if government powers
- 43:06Speaker 2: knew it was always a clandestine operation, they were going
- 43:08Speaker 2: to go in and try to do stuff. So them
- 43:11Speaker 2: being kind of like open on the world front of like, hey,
- 43:14Speaker 2: here's our stuff and here's our things that we have.
- 43:17Speaker 2: And at first we wanted to work with you guys,
- 43:19Speaker 2: but now you're going to be, you know, you're going
- 43:21Speaker 2: to be a-holes about it. And you're going to try
- 43:23Speaker 2: to steal from us. And you think you can because
- 43:25Speaker 2: we're vulnerable, but we're really not. So that was a
- 43:29Speaker 2: great scene.
- 43:30Speaker 5: I did like that scene, yeah.
- 43:32Speaker 2: But then having kind of, you know, talocon mirroring that
- 43:36Speaker 2: same thing where they're a secret society they have stuff
- 43:39Speaker 2: that people would want as well they have advanced technology
- 43:42Speaker 2: and resources and yada yada yada you know so that's
- 43:45Speaker 2: kind of nice mirroring there so we got you know
- 43:47Speaker 2: two societies that maybe have a very tenuous you know
- 43:52Speaker 2: uh alliance by the end of the movie yeah but
- 43:54Speaker 2: you still know that the nanosecond that namor can get
- 43:57Speaker 2: the upper hand he will take it yeah The other thing, though,
- 44:01Speaker 2: that's huge was that vibranium has always been associated with Wakanda.
- 44:07Speaker 2: It's only in Wakanda. It comes from there. The meteorite
- 44:11Speaker 2: landed there in the mountain, all that kind of jazz.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Now we have established that vibranium is elsewhere.
- 44:17Speaker 5: There's at least one other deposit somewhere, if not more.
- 44:19Speaker 2: And if not more. So that's huge. That gives us
- 44:23Speaker 2: humongous real-world MacGuffin that now, as we saw with basically...
- 44:29Speaker 2: When Julia Louise Dreyfuss came out of that truck, I
- 44:32Speaker 2: said the only thing that came to my mind, shit.
- 44:36Speaker 5: Well, I mean, they set her up as going to
- 44:38Speaker 5: be something. Like from the very beginning, the new Captain America, when,
- 44:45Speaker 5: you know, it's like we've got her in there and
- 44:47Speaker 5: you can see she's already working against the system more
- 44:50Speaker 5: or less.
- 44:51Speaker 2: And then we see her get a black widow.
- 44:52Speaker 5: And to her own agenda and is super powerful in
- 44:55Speaker 5: some way, but we don't really know how. So we've
- 44:57Speaker 5: seen her come back at least once since then. And now, like,
- 45:01Speaker 5: this is, I guess, her first movie appearance. And I
- 45:05Speaker 5: still kind of wish she had more to do. Like,
- 45:07Speaker 5: she's just there to kind of be a jerk and
- 45:09Speaker 5: screw over, which we find out is her ex-husband.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a big one there. She was like, oh,
- 45:16Speaker 2: she was married to Ross?
- 45:17Speaker 5: Interesting. Like, oh, shit.
- 45:21Speaker 2: She will definitely get her own movie with the Thunderbolts.
- 45:23Speaker 5: I'm sure.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's because now we kind of have, like, an idea...
- 45:26Speaker 2: of more what that movie is going to be about because, like, okay,
- 45:29Speaker 2: she's got this group of people that are basically, like,
- 45:31Speaker 2: you know, a lot of ne'er-do-wells, essentially.
- 45:33Speaker 5: The cast-offs of the hero world.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Not necessarily cast-offs. Basically, this is their own suicide squad.
- 45:38Speaker 5: Yeah, pretty much.
- 45:39Speaker 2: These are the folks that can get the dirty job
- 45:41Speaker 2: done if a dirty job needs to be done, and
- 45:43Speaker 2: they don't feel too terribly bad about it. Of course,
- 45:46Speaker 2: they will be manipulated or forced into it in some way, shape,
- 45:48Speaker 2: or form, I'm sure. But, yeah, that's the thing is
- 45:52Speaker 2: that this is kind of a new status... for the
- 45:55Speaker 2: character of, uh, Valeria Contessa de Fontaine. Uh, she was
- 45:59Speaker 2: traditionally a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent back in the day. Um, she
- 46:03Speaker 2: was one of the very few female agents that was
- 46:05Speaker 2: showcased in the old books because it was the 60s
- 46:07Speaker 2: and whatever else. Uh, later on, normally she was kind
- 46:11Speaker 2: of like Fury's girlfriend kind of thing. You know, like
- 46:13Speaker 2: it was kind of an off and on thing they had,
- 46:15Speaker 2: but whatever else. Uh, they reinvented her in the 80s
- 46:18Speaker 2: and basically they needed a whole thing called Nick Fury
- 46:21Speaker 2: versus S.H.I.E.L.D. where basically the, the, you know, for whatever reason, S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 46:25Speaker 2: turned on Fury, you find out HYDRA is behind it
- 46:28Speaker 2: or whatever else.
- 46:28Speaker 5: Yeah, the Civil War plot, or no, the Winter Soldier plot, essentially, yeah.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Well, they've used HYDRA infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. as a plot point
- 46:38Speaker 2: more than a few times.
- 46:39Speaker 5: I'm sure.
- 46:40Speaker 2: It's been a lot of years. These were two horrible organizations.
- 46:44Speaker 2: You know, one's making terrorist things and one's supposed to
- 46:47Speaker 2: be Handling all the world's security, but they themselves get
- 46:50Speaker 2: compromised on a regular basis. But nonetheless, Valeria is a
- 46:57Speaker 2: class A heel. And so, yeah, for her to be
- 47:02Speaker 2: kind of in this mode and running a organization that
- 47:05Speaker 2: doesn't care much for superhero activity and all their... bullshit,
- 47:09Speaker 2: and she's quote-unquote here to serve the people of this
- 47:13Speaker 2: country and do right and whatever else. Like, yeah. Oh, man.
- 47:18Speaker 2: You're going to be such a problem.
- 47:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:21Speaker 2: So, yeah. And I love that they got Julia the
- 47:24Speaker 2: Weed Driver to play her. She is great at it.
- 47:26Speaker 2: She just kills it. But it's just like, yeah, when
- 47:28Speaker 2: she got out of the truck, I'm like, shit. Here
- 47:30Speaker 2: we go. It's like, oh, my God. So, yeah. So
- 47:34Speaker 2: that was a lot of fun.
- 47:35Speaker 5: Well, that's what I do. did like like for as
- 47:38Speaker 5: much and i don't think i realized how long it
- 47:41Speaker 5: was going to be so getting in i was like
- 47:43Speaker 5: after a while you kind of feel the length in
- 47:45Speaker 5: the midpoint like before like in the them trying to
- 47:49Speaker 5: decide are we enemies or not area i'm like this
- 47:53Speaker 5: is maybe a little too long by the time we
- 47:55Speaker 5: get to the first real fight i'm like okay now
- 47:57Speaker 5: we're back into the action it's okay but like i
- 47:59Speaker 5: feel like That middle part was maybe a little long.
- 48:02Speaker 5: Once you get to the rest of the end, it
- 48:03Speaker 5: moves pretty good and it carries on. But that lead
- 48:07Speaker 5: up just kind of drags its feet a little bit.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll agree. There was a bit of a lull. But,
- 48:12Speaker 2: you know, they did recover, as you said, so I
- 48:14Speaker 2: was fine with it.
- 48:15Speaker 5: But I did, yeah, outside of fish people, the rest
- 48:18Speaker 5: of it I really enjoy. Like, I do like we've
- 48:21Speaker 5: brought in... Essentially, we finally found our new Iron Man.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Yes.
- 48:26Speaker 5: And they snuck that in. They kind of did the
- 48:28Speaker 5: Civil War thing of like, oh, yeah, look, here's Black Panther.
- 48:31Speaker 5: Because he didn't get his own movie first off. They
- 48:34Speaker 5: just kind of work him into another movie. And you're like, oh, well,
- 48:37Speaker 5: this is kind of our origin story for Black Panther.
- 48:40Speaker 5: And we get that with this one, too. So we
- 48:41Speaker 5: get the Iron Heart that will be without ever actually
- 48:45Speaker 5: calling her that. Within the movie, they don't ever say that, right?
- 48:49Speaker 5: She's even credited that way, I noticed, but... They don't
- 48:52Speaker 5: ever really give her a title, more or less.
- 48:56Speaker 2: And, of course, you see her knocking out when she's
- 48:57Speaker 2: building the suit. You see her knocking out Ironheart, which
- 48:59Speaker 2: is kind of cool, too. Yeah. I think, of course,
- 49:03Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to the series now they've set her up.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Dominic Thorne did an awesome job as Riri.
- 49:09Speaker 5: I didn't know that's who she was, so I kept
- 49:12Speaker 5: seeing the Target commercial going, why is this girl pestering
- 49:15Speaker 5: kids in Target? And then the movie started. I was like, oh,
- 49:19Speaker 5: that is her. Okay, well, that makes more sense now.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm loving those Target commercials because I knew who
- 49:23Speaker 2: she was. That's kind of the fun thing about this movie.
- 49:27Speaker 2: It's like, okay, we've got basically four female leads of color,
- 49:33Speaker 2: and half of them are STEM, basically. And are just black.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Bad asses.
- 49:40Speaker 5: Brilliant and willing to kick people's ass when need be.
- 49:44Speaker 5: So it's like strong in every sense.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:47Speaker 5: Which is what we want from our female leads.
- 49:48Speaker 2: And then we go and turn Shuri into an action
- 49:50Speaker 2: hero as well. And she pulls that off too. So
- 49:53Speaker 2: it's like, yeah.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Okay.
- 49:55Speaker 2: So it's like, yeah, there's some... I wish they would
- 49:59Speaker 2: have done a little more heavy on the marketing about that,
- 50:01Speaker 2: but yeah, it's like, come on, folks.
- 50:02Speaker 5: Yeah, they snuck that one in there that, like, I
- 50:04Speaker 5: knew it was coming because I knew the series is coming,
- 50:07Speaker 5: but yeah, I didn't realize they were shoving her into
- 50:09Speaker 5: this as much as she is because she becomes kind
- 50:12Speaker 5: of a big part in the middle, and then she's not,
- 50:15Speaker 5: and then she comes back with a suit. So, like,
- 50:17Speaker 5: it kind of balances out by the end of the movie.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I knew they were introducing Riri. I was curious
- 50:21Speaker 2: how they were going to do it because at first,
- 50:23Speaker 2: myself and some friends of mine at the old comic
- 50:26Speaker 2: book shop, we were doing some speculation on this movie.
- 50:30Speaker 2: And so one of the things we speculated about was
- 50:32Speaker 2: possibly like, you know, some of these Wakandan outreach centers
- 50:35Speaker 2: that they sort of put in the States basically give
- 50:37Speaker 2: kids in, you know, poor communities, you know, access to
- 50:39Speaker 2: education or whatever else. So maybe we thought, oh, they
- 50:42Speaker 2: discovered her through there and then brought her to Wakanda
- 50:45Speaker 2: seeing her talent.
- 50:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 50:47Speaker 2: And then, oh, okay, no, she builds this thing. And
- 50:50Speaker 2: it basically was like she essentially had built something in
- 50:53Speaker 2: a science experiment class and the government essentially stole that
- 50:56Speaker 2: from her.
- 50:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Which sounds about right. Which sounds about right, yeah.
- 50:59Speaker 5: That's how it would work.
- 51:00Speaker 2: But yeah, that's the thing. For a character who was
- 51:04Speaker 2: so heavily connected to Iron Man in the comics because
- 51:06Speaker 2: she was the legacy character and being able to still
- 51:10Speaker 2: introduce her, be 100% her character, but not have Iron
- 51:15Speaker 2: Man in it was fantastic.
- 51:18Speaker 5: Again, they really do a good job of introducing her
- 51:21Speaker 5: and then very quickly kind of establishing who she is.
- 51:25Speaker 5: So much so that like, I already was glad. Like,
- 51:28Speaker 5: I know it's a series because I'm like, as much
- 51:30Speaker 5: as I don't care about the other stuff going on
- 51:32Speaker 5: over here, I really like what we're doing with her. Like,
- 51:34Speaker 5: I want to see way more with her. And then
- 51:36Speaker 5: I know that's coming now. So that, yeah, I do
- 51:39Speaker 5: like her introduction and I like her character and how
- 51:43Speaker 5: much potential there is to do stuff with her.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Now, I am still curious. There's still one element to
- 51:49Speaker 2: Ironheart which... If they want to really get some attention
- 51:52Speaker 2: to her show. I haven't heard if they're going to
- 51:54Speaker 2: do this or not. If they are, they're keeping it
- 51:57Speaker 2: under wraps to make it a big surprise. But, of course, like,
- 52:01Speaker 2: you know, in the comics when they introduce the character,
- 52:05Speaker 2: Tony is involved in a big event that's going on.
- 52:07Speaker 2: And so he, in a quiet moment, meets Riri, has
- 52:11Speaker 2: conversations with her, sees that basically she got kicked out
- 52:14Speaker 2: of MIT because she She wasn't going to class because
- 52:17Speaker 2: she was basically building her own Iron Man suit from scratch. Like,
- 52:21Speaker 2: she didn't steal any plans. She literally saw him do
- 52:24Speaker 2: that and go, oh, I can do that because this
- 52:25Speaker 2: and this and this.
- 52:26Speaker 5: I mean, in the MCU, they kind of substituted Spider-Man.
- 52:30Speaker 5: I mean, he became that version, more or less, in
- 52:33Speaker 5: a totally different way. But that's the relationship there that
- 52:37Speaker 5: we don't get with this one. But now it's... Just
- 52:40Speaker 5: sort of the legacy of Tony Stark, I guess.
- 52:43Speaker 2: But I love the fact that they still kept it
- 52:45Speaker 2: basically very much like Tony. She loves getting her hands
- 52:48Speaker 2: dirty building something.
- 52:49Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 52:49Speaker 2: But like Peter, she doesn't have to use the best materials.
- 52:53Speaker 2: She can use found materials and still get the job done.
- 52:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:56Speaker 2: So they got the best of both worlds with their science,
- 52:59Speaker 2: you know, stuff like that. And also, the biggest thing
- 53:03Speaker 2: is when I first saw that muscle car... I'm like,
- 53:06Speaker 2: wasn't that the same car that was in Hawkeye and
- 53:09Speaker 2: the big chase, you know, when he and Kate Bishop
- 53:12Speaker 2: are in the car and there's a big chase. He's like,
- 53:13Speaker 2: isn't that the same car?
- 53:15Speaker 5: So I was like, tie it all in.
- 53:17Speaker 2: It's like, is there, will we get into the series
- 53:19Speaker 2: where maybe like that's her car and it's parked and
- 53:22Speaker 2: they steal her car and there we have a connection.
- 53:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Maybe we see Kate Bishop somewhere down the line. Because
- 53:29Speaker 2: she and Riri are friends.
- 53:30Speaker 5: I would definitely like to see them team up as
- 53:32Speaker 5: we move forward.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Yeah. So that's a connection maybe we'll see down the road, hopefully.
- 53:37Speaker 2: But yeah, just the way they did Riri with introducing her,
- 53:41Speaker 2: building the suit, having an Iron Man sort of look,
- 53:43Speaker 2: but also having an original look to it. Like, yeah.
- 53:46Speaker 2: And of course.
- 53:47Speaker 5: It's almost like the first Iron Man suit. It's the
- 53:49Speaker 5: clunky version, but as we see, she's got the... the skills.
- 53:53Speaker 5: So if you give her a little more funding, she
- 53:56Speaker 5: can put together some pretty impressive stuff.
- 53:58Speaker 2: I'm assuming. So, so yeah, so I was very happy
- 54:00Speaker 2: with her introduction. I mean, definitely even, I mean, I
- 54:03Speaker 2: thought they got Namor really well, but I was, I
- 54:06Speaker 2: was enjoying Riria a lot more.
- 54:07Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, definitely.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Uh, but one big thing they also dropped in literally
- 54:12Speaker 2: actually the same scene where, you know, Shuri is being
- 54:15Speaker 2: introduced to Talocan and seeing this whole world and Namor's
- 54:19Speaker 2: giving his whole origin and, And all that kind of stuff.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Another thing he dropped, they kind of let slide in there,
- 54:24Speaker 2: is that she is not the first visitor to Talocon
- 54:27Speaker 2: from the surface world. So the question is, who has
- 54:31Speaker 2: been down there before?
- 54:32Speaker 5: Where are we tying this in?
- 54:35Speaker 2: Because there was a lot of speculation by fans that
- 54:38Speaker 2: maybe we were going to be introduced to a certain
- 54:40Speaker 2: Victor Von Doom in this movie.
- 54:43Speaker 5: And.
- 54:44Speaker 2: you know, maybe that's kind of a Easter egg for
- 54:47Speaker 2: later on down the line. That's basically the, the throwaway
- 54:50Speaker 2: line and end game where we're detecting earthquakes in the
- 54:52Speaker 2: Atlantic ocean sort of thing. Yeah.
- 54:54Speaker 5: That's the thing. It's like, I knew this was coming.
- 54:56Speaker 5: Cause even there they were dropping that hint.
- 54:59Speaker 2: I love it too. And the fans picked up on that. Like,
- 55:01Speaker 2: Oh no, no, no, no. We're not talking about Atlantis. No,
- 55:03Speaker 2: we're not talking about Atlantis. No, because we're talking about Talocon.
- 55:05Speaker 5: Cause we're changing that name.
- 55:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 55:07Speaker 2: Cause we're changing the name.
- 55:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 55:09Speaker 2: So yeah, that, that was fun there. So maybe we'll
- 55:11Speaker 2: see that. But, um, An interesting thing, though, I have
- 55:13Speaker 2: read for certain is that in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, Dr.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Doom will not be the villain, as well he should
- 55:20Speaker 2: not be. That's the thing that the other three Fantastic
- 55:23Speaker 2: Four films have made a mistake. While Dr. Doom has
- 55:27Speaker 2: extremely close ties with Reed Richards, he does not have
- 55:32Speaker 2: any ties to the formation of the Fantastic Four or
- 55:37Speaker 2: the acquirement of their abilities. Right. He got his own
- 55:42Speaker 2: shit because basically he and Reed were in college together.
- 55:45Speaker 2: Ben was also in college with him as well. And
- 55:49Speaker 2: basically Doom and Reed were very much rivals because they're
- 55:52Speaker 2: very intelligent and Doom has a humongous ego. So that's
- 55:55Speaker 2: why they were competing. So Doom is doing this experiment.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Reed comes in and says, hey, your math is wrong
- 56:00Speaker 2: because this, this, this. And he's like, if you, buddy,
- 56:03Speaker 2: I'm right, you're wrong. Kiss my ass. Then basically Doom
- 56:07Speaker 2: proceeds to blow up his own dormitory, injuring his face
- 56:11Speaker 2: and almost killing a lot of other people at the
- 56:14Speaker 2: same time. This gets him booted out of college. He's
- 56:17Speaker 2: stripped of all of his grants and everything like that.
- 56:20Speaker 2: Ruins his academic career and as a scientist and whatever else.
- 56:23Speaker 2: So basically when he took the name Dr. Doom, he
- 56:25Speaker 2: wasn't actually a doctor. He just took that damn name
- 56:28Speaker 2: because he thought he was.
- 56:28Speaker 5: Well, it's catchy, you know.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Well, I mean, his name is Victor Von Doom.
- 56:31Speaker 5: That's the important part, as long as it's catchy.
- 56:34Speaker 2: But he blames Reed 100% for that whole thing. So
- 56:39Speaker 2: then years later, you know, Reed and his buddies, they
- 56:42Speaker 2: go off in space and they get the powers and
- 56:44Speaker 2: they come back down. And then three or four issues
- 56:47Speaker 2: down the road in the Fantastic Four, they go to
- 56:49Speaker 2: Latveria and, oh, hey, there's that asshole I knew in college.
- 56:53Speaker 2: He's running an Eastern European country and wearing an iron suit.
- 56:57Speaker 5: Shit.
- 56:58Speaker 2: So, yeah. So while they're very much tied, he's not
- 57:02Speaker 2: the first villain. The Mole Man and the, you know,
- 57:04Speaker 2: the underground people, stuff like that, underground monsters, we've seen
- 57:07Speaker 2: that cover the very first Fantastic Four. That's our first villain.
- 57:10Speaker 5: See, that's what I was thinking earlier. I was like,
- 57:13Speaker 5: that's why I was like, I guess if we're doing
- 57:14Speaker 5: some unseen... civilization that nobody on earth seems to know about. That's,
- 57:20Speaker 5: you know, that's why you go to the underwater wing.
- 57:22Speaker 5: Cause that's the only place where you can hide. I
- 57:24Speaker 5: was like, but what about the center of the earth?
- 57:27Speaker 5: So I was thinking like you can get that King
- 57:29Speaker 5: Kong flip upside down world. And there's a whole nother
- 57:32Speaker 5: world inside of your planet. So I'm like, we could
- 57:34Speaker 5: do that. We don't need fish people. We could have
- 57:36Speaker 5: mole people. That would be way more fun.
- 57:38Speaker 2: Well, we have fish people. Well, now we have both.
- 57:40Speaker 5: Yeah, we have both.
- 57:41Speaker 2: And basically anywhere you can think of that we need
- 57:45Speaker 2: a universe put in there, there is one. You know,
- 57:47Speaker 2: the quantum realm is the universe that's beneath our universe.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Like literally when we shrink down to tiny microscopic level,
- 57:54Speaker 2: there's a whole other world down there too. So, you know.
- 57:57Speaker 5: Well, that's a, and that's, as I said earlier, let's
- 57:59Speaker 5: go ahead and get into it. Cause that is one
- 58:01Speaker 5: that I wanted to throw out there. There's plenty of
- 58:04Speaker 5: other specifics about this movie we can come back to,
- 58:06Speaker 5: but because there's so much, this, this movie, I feel
- 58:10Speaker 5: like maybe more than anything else recently feels like it's
- 58:15Speaker 5: doing a lot of the coordinating and planning and, and again,
- 58:19Speaker 5: almost real world fixing of where we are now. So
- 58:23Speaker 5: much so because, you know, we lost our lead, uh,
- 58:26Speaker 5: But then also like, well, we got to get this
- 58:28Speaker 5: ready for the next thing and this ready for the next.
- 58:30Speaker 5: I mean, the Iron Man 2 syndrome of like, okay,
- 58:33Speaker 5: we got to get everything going on this. We got
- 58:35Speaker 5: somewhere to be. We got to have all these pieces
- 58:38Speaker 5: in play. So it is one of those, like how
- 58:43Speaker 5: many different things do we have going at the same time?
- 58:47Speaker 5: that are we all going to come together at one
- 58:49Speaker 5: big thing? Because we have the Quantum Realm going here,
- 58:52Speaker 5: but then we just finished up the Doctor Strange, which
- 58:55Speaker 5: we have the whole other thing that he's got going
- 58:58Speaker 5: on that's going to go horribly wrong and come back
- 59:01Speaker 5: to haunt us. So how tied are all of these
- 59:04Speaker 5: things going to be into one big thing, or these
- 59:07Speaker 5: separate side universes for separate side adventures.
- 59:11Speaker 2: I would say as far as the dark domain stuff
- 59:14Speaker 2: goes the doctor strange stuff that's probably coming up within
- 59:17Speaker 2: his next film or you know maybe that's hinted at
- 59:21Speaker 2: the end of the next blade one and maybe we
- 59:23Speaker 2: get kind of a Yeah, they've hinted around they wanted
- 59:26Speaker 2: to do some version of the Midnight Suns, which is
- 59:28Speaker 2: basically the supernatural team of heroes.
- 59:32Speaker 5: But that's going to be separate from Crazy Quantum insanity
- 59:36Speaker 5: that happens in the next movie.
- 59:37Speaker 2: And see, that's the thing, is that they've dubbed this entry,
- 59:41Speaker 2: this next phase, or not necessarily phase, this next saga
- 59:45Speaker 2: is the multiverse saga. So we're dealing with a whole
- 59:48Speaker 2: lot of other plates spinning here. So, yeah, Strange has
- 59:51Speaker 2: got this problem coming up here. He has a third
- 59:54Speaker 2: eye now, too. That may be a problem later on
- 59:56Speaker 2: as well.
- 59:58Speaker 5: That happens with a lot of people.
- 59:59Speaker 2: We're going to have the Guardians having their own issues
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: in space. Basically, the events of Part 2 coming to
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: bite him back in the ass with Adam Warlock showing
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: up and then whatever else happens in there. I think
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: the High Evolutionary is supposed to be. villain in there
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: so he's a guy that basically likes kind of like
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: dr morrow likes toying around with genetics and saying you
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: know what would be really fun is if we had
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: a monkey uh uh you know turtle.
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: Dude this is also what i do on the side
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: yeah so he.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Kind of he likes toying around with that kind of
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: jazz um with the quantum realm stuff and with kang
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: coming up as our next big bad That is a
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: lot of timey-wimey stuff. That's a lot of alternate universe.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: That's where our main multiversal action comes from, is from Kang.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Because the big implications with Kang is that, you know,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: there are multiple versions of Kang. We already kind of
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: get a taste of that at the end of the
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: first season of Loki. Yeah, they definitely work.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: Him in heavily there, along with another insanity, too. But
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: at least, again, that's another one of those that's just...
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: almost laying groundwork more than telling a story for me. Anyway,
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: I had way more issues with them not going anywhere
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: until the very last episode. And then we're like, here's
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: an information dump for a whole bunch of future things.
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: Here you go.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: So, but yeah, basically with, with Kang, think Genghis Khan
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: with a time machine and he goes and conquers. And
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: then basically he's conquered so much throughout the multiverse, throughout
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: time itself, that he essentially gets bored with his own
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: shit and starts becoming nice and does that for a short,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: short period of time, maybe a few hundred years, and
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: then basically decides that, okay, I'm now going to put
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: myself in this position of Lord of Time because I've
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: been doing this for so long. I know all the
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: ins and outs of things. I'm now running the time
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: stream sort of stuff. So you all come to me.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: I'm the boss now. And then he puts himself in
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: that position, runs that for a while, and then we
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: get to the point where we see him and Loki
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: where he is Literally at the end of his line.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: And he's old. He's bored.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: I'm bored with everything.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: He's seen it all. He's done it all. He knows
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: it all. And what only takes him by surprise is
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: when he doesn't know what's coming next. And that's literally
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: at the moment his death. But the other versions of
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: Kang that we haven't seen yet are probably far more dangerous.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: So the curious thing is this Kang that we see here.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: He's coming off as maybe he's asking Ant-Man for help
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: in the trailer. What's he asking him for? Did he
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: conquer the Quantum Realm in his time-y sort of thing
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: like that? Or is this another version of Kang that
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: may be a nicer one? Because what we implicate for
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: coming up in Season 2 of Loki is the more despotic,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: conqueror sort of Kang that we see at the end
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: of that and everything kind of changed over. So there's
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: a lot of implications there. It's like, is this one, like,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: is he just trying to manipulate Ant-Man into doing something
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: and he's really bad? Or is this a nice Kang
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: and we're going to see evil Kangs coming up later
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: on down the line?
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: You know, Jonathan Major's got himself a hell of a
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: role because he can basically do multiple versions of the
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: same damn character.
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: Yeah. There's definitely a lot to work with there.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot of stuff. But you're right. Wakanda
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Forever did a good job of setting up a lot
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: of real world stuff. a lot of their future problems.
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: But almost at the cost of the story, I feel like.
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: As much as I said that going back to Iron
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: Man 2, I feel like that movie almost more than
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: any probably suffers with the setting the pieces into motion
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: for all of this and this and that. Where this one, again,
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: I feel like what's going on in the main story
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: is the thing I'm least interested in. I'm way more
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: interested in Ironheart. I'm way more interested in setting this
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: up and the things that are coming from it, even
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: like the basic, you know, relationships. It's like watching some
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: of the Wakandans and like where they're going to go
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: down the line is way more interesting than, than fighting
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: the fish people. So like, again, I'm, I feel that.
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: And I feel like by the end, I think it's
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: super successful as a, as a tribute, you know, to
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: our lead and to the whole Wakanda idea. But does
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: it do that much damage? within the story of what
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: it's trying to tell. And then the other thing I
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: was trying to decide is are they done with the
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: basic version of Wakanda that we've been, you know, what
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: would have been coming out of that first movie because
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: we don't have our lead. Do we, does he take
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: it in a whole different direction now? Because I saw
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: looking at, you know, Googlers, I will give him points.
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: This thing gorgeous looks so good. So like as a director, I,
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: visually he can deliver and then some but he also
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: like looking at the list there it's like the next
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: thing is switching over to tv so are we not
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: doing more wakanda movies is there not another because again
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: we've set her up now as our new black panther
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: so are we just going to start working her into
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: other adventures are we gonna see her show up on
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: the tv show but like There aren't any rumors as
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: to Black Panther 3. Next up is the TV series
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: as an offshoot thing.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: And I think that's just the next thing coming. They
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: set up stuff for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: Madness for stuff to come, but we haven't got an
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: announcement for Doctor Strange 3 yet.
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: But that one, I feel like, had a very specific direction.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: Even with him, what happened in that movie was its
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: own solid little story, and then set up two or
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: three different directions they can go with that stuff. Where
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: I don't, I don't know. I feel like there was
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: so much other stuff going on that's already represented somewhere else. Like,
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: the Wakanda just sort of finished up and we're like, okay,
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: we've kind of found peace as, you know, people. We
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: did our big tribute to, you know, our lost hero
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: and we've got a new Black Panther now. But, like,
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: it didn't feel like it was, and now we're going here. Like,
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: it was just like, and that's our tribute. Thank you
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: for coming. Like, it doesn't feel like it had momentum
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: that was going anywhere as, like, Black Panther 3. Like,
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: it was just... sort of almost wrapping up where we
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: stand with Wakanda and we're still going to use them
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: in the future. But I don't know. Like, I don't know.
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: And so much of that is probably tied into losing Chadwick,
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: but I don't know. Like, I just kind of felt
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: that in this movie of like, did they not know
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: for sure where to go with the overall story? And
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: they're busy focusing on the side characters and going to
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: give them the TV series to do that with and
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: not worry so much about a big, I don't know,
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: But just put her into the upcoming Avengers or another
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: side movie somewhere else.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: Right. I think they kind of do both of these things.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: I think, for one, it is kind of like, oh,
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: this is closing a bit of a chapter. It's like, okay,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: here are things that are going to be now in
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: Wakanda without T'Challa around. Without Chadwick Boseman being present in
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: the universe. I think it also kind of subtly sets
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: up three different things. One, it sets up Wakanda's new
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: place in the world now where basically we are kind
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: of at conflict with the rest of the world because
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: we have something that they want.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: And are willing to get kind of shady about trying
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: to get it from us.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: So I think there's going to be definitely when we
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: get the Thunderbolts movie we're going to see a shitload
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: of that. I think we may see a little bit
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: of that possibly in Armor Wars as well because of
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: course that's going to be dealing with Rhodey kind of
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: dealing with Stark Tech being on the open market and
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: have to basically save his dead friend's good name and
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: his technology, Vibranium may come into play for there as
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: well because the technologies are very linked. The other thing is,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: of course, we have set up this new character, Ironheart,
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: who's a legacy character. We're going to have ties to
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: Wakanda with her in her series, so that would be
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: a good part to see some of those characters pop
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: up through there as well. Obviously, Black Panther and the
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: Wakandans will be linked to the larger stories, the Avengers
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: movies that are to come in the future. So we're
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: going to see that. But what our cut scene does
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: there is, for one, it takes care of our recasting problem.
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: It solves that one, but it also sets up a
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: lot of future conflicts and stories of protecting the legacy
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: of T'Challa, protecting that secret, and then how quickly are
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: we going to age this kid?
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: That's what I was going to say. Age-wise, we've got
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: it way down the line before we get to the
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: passing the torch in that way but yeah are we
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: going to focus on her for a while or are
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: we just going to jump again we can travel through
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: time so are we going to jump ahead in time
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: and see like a grown-up version already kind of taking
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: over and.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: It's possible there too and another thing too they kind
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: of you know buried the lead on this one as
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: well if you weren't paying attention is that nikea and
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: toussaint they survived the snap yeah yeah they they those
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Those five years he spent growing up. So, you know, basically,
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: you know, it kind of sucked because essentially he lost
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: his father twice. Yeah. Once when they thought, you know,
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: the lost everybody got dusted when he came back. But
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: then basically lost him again to this whatever disease it was.
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: It made more sense by the time you get to
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: the end and like, OK, this is why she left.
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: But also like he had nothing to do with them
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: because he couldn't the first time. And then they had
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: a little interaction there for a while and then he
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: was gone again. So it does set up this sort
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: of reason why he was out of his life, you know,
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: growing up, why they weren't just a family. You didn't
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: have that option when you're snapped out of existence. But
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: also kind of gives it, like, this reason why she
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: was gone and started this whole new life, too. To
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: keep him sort of under wraps and raise him, you know,
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: away from Wakanda. But still, like, hopefully bring up a
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: good child and one that's ready to take over, assuming
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: they want to pass the election.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: And that kid's cute as a butt.
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: Which is, yeah, super good for them as a casting. Like,
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: let's get this super cute kid. So I do wonder,
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: are they going to jump ahead or are they going
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: to hang on to that? get some mileage out of
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: the super cute kid mode for a while.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Well, I mean, that's kind of the interesting thing is
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: if you think about it, basically, it only took essentially
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: three movies to get Scott Lang's daughter, Cassie, grown up age,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: because basically we get like, you know, first two movies,
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: she's a little kid. And then basically we get after
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: end game. And of course, you know, she's grown up now.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: And then, Why we recast her for the new Quantumania.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: But they recast her for whatever reason. So this poor
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: character has been four different actresses. So we recast her
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: for Quantumania. And now she's obviously in her 20s. And
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: has taken up the superheroing a little bit. And the
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: adventuring and the science-y stuff as well. So that's kind
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: of cool to set her up for that. So we may...
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: they may age this kid quickly. They may, since we're
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: dealing with multiversal timey wimey stuff that we somehow pull
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: a grownup, you know, to challenge you.
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: But I mean, it doesn't take long. That's the thing
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: with kids. Five, six years is a huge jump. So yeah, that's, that's,
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: it's not that far out of whack when we get
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: to the, the Ant-Man thing, because again, you jump ahead
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: five years and it's like, Oh, she's not a little
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: kid anymore. Like it makes a big difference. So yeah, it's,
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: it's kind of that same thing. So that's, Just sort
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: of planting that seed there of like, you can do
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: kind of whatever with him. So that's, that's interesting. So yeah, I'm,
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: I'm more interested, I guess, cause I know that's coming,
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: but what they want to do with the sister, I
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: do really like, cause I mean, it was sort of
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: up in the air. They could give the black Panther
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: title to someone else too. So I do, we all
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: kind of wanted that just because it is such a
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: family thing. It has been, you know, sort of right.
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: All about that, you know, that group that those four
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: people are, three of which are dead by the end
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: of this movie. So it's like, all she's got left is,
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: is that legacy of Black Panther. So I do like
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: that she gets to be in the suit. Now, once
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: she is in the suit, you realize, damn, she is skinny.
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: Once she got in there, I was like, man, she
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: is a tiny girl. Like, I knew that before, but
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: it really highlights it when she's crammed into that suit.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Thankfully, the heart-shaped herb does.
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: Yeah, she's super-powered, so it's all good.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: That thing is, in the comics, Shuri has been taking
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: the mantle of the Black Panther twice.
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: And she's taken the ruler of Wakanda once. There was
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: a conflict that Doom went to war with Wakanda, and basically,
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: the results... T'Challa pulled a couple of moves that basically...
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: They won the battle, but basically he lost favor in
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: the eyes of his own people because he had to
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: basically just pull some dirty shit. Yeah. And so he
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: was stripped of the throne. Shuri takes over, takes over
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: the Maxwell Black Panther. Eventually, you know, T'Challa gets the
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: role back. And then I think currently in the books,
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: he's lost... Is a Black Panther, but he is not king.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: There is now a... Basically, the council that was in Wakanda.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: The council now runs Wakanda, and Shuri is on that council.
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: Well, that seems like that's what she did here, right?
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: Because she's the new Black Panther, but by the end,
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: we've got someone else stepping up to get into the
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: battle for king. So.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: Now, that's kind of... That's an even baller move there,
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: because she sends a proxy... Yeah. For the fight. Instead
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: of her defending her own honor, she sends M'Baku to
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: do it. So that's a baller move there. So again,
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: that just shows Shuri's scoffing at old tradition because it's
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: an old tradition.
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: Would it be to take the title for her to
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: take over as queen? Or would it be for him
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: to be king and she's just going to be Black Panther?
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: She basically... has other things to do.
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: Again, like she really doesn't need to sit there and
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: be queen because that she's, she's being a super genius
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: building things. And oh, by the way, black Panther, like
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: she's got more than enough on her plate as it is.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: And it may be that the council does end up
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: taking over, uh, why she may be kind of like
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: an honorary queen.
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Uh, you know, but that was, that was kind of
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: a fun thing is that, you know, they still had
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: the ceremony. She is technically queen of Wakanda. She is
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: the black Panther, uh, But for this honorary tradition of
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: defending her own position as a new, you know, ruler,
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: she sends a proxy because she has other things to do. So,
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: you know, so yeah, this is a new mode, but yeah,
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: we'll basically, will we see Shuri on the throne? Or
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: will she kind of like have a council instead? And
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: the council is the ruling thing, and she's on the council.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: That's the thing right now in the comics. Shuri is
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: on this ruling council. T'Challa is not. Because, again, T'Challa
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: screwed up, and.
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: He's, you know. So, yeah. I mean, again, I don't
- 1:14:58Speaker 5: need to see her sit around and be queen. There's
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: so many more cool things she could be doing from
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: our end, from the audience end. I'd much rather see
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: her out there kicking people's ass and building cool machines
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: to blast. I do like at one point she has
- 1:15:10Speaker 5: kind of the guns on her suit. I'm like, I
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: like her tooling it so that she has her own suit.
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: It's not like a knockoff of her brother's. It's her
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: version of the suit and what it should be.
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Also, I kind of wish they would have done this.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: It was a cool look in the books. But her suit,
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: of course, you know, the traditional suit is, you know,
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: the skin tight black suit. Her suit has got like
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: some like furry shoulders and has got some more of like.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: animal adornments on it, aside from just being the all-black suit. Yeah.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: So she stepped up the fashion a little bit on
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: the suit. Yeah. Which they kind of mirror that a
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: little bit with the purple and the gold accents.
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's got a little more color to it, but.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, this is definitely a different suit, different person wearing it, but...
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: This was, like you said, setting up a lot of
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: other things in the MCU down the line. It kind
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: of is that movie to do that. But at the
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: same time, I think it's kind of setting up the large...
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: It wasn't so much a, this is definitely the direction
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: we're going. It's, this is now the new status for Wakanda.
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: It's finishing out the old deal and like giving you,
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: here's where we can go in a lot of different
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: directions with all these different characters. I do like if
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: we're bringing in old stuff. The return of Michael B.
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: Jordan is kind of awesome.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: Whether it not be in the real world or not,
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: like just the fact that they got him to come
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: back is awesome. So yeah, I really liked that scene.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: And I got to give my buddy Tommy Crane credits
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: because we were doing our speculation train, whatever else. And
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: there were two points that Tommy himself speculated on and
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: he was 100% about it. And one of those things
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: was the fact that when Shuri goes to see her
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: ancestral plane, She will not see her brother. She will
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: not see her father. She will not see her mother.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: She'll see Killmonger. And that would be interesting as all shit.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, if that happens, that's going to be great.
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: And as soon as that happens, I'm sitting there going, Tommy,
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: you son of a bitch. You're right.
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: So, yeah.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: So that was, you know, that was amazing that he
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: nailed that sort of thing.
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: He's so great at that. Anyway, and that was almost
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: the danger of that first movie is that he's... he's
- 1:17:22Speaker 5: more charismatic, you know, he's like he, and he has
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: a real story that you're like, no, I'm kind of
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: siding with this guy until he gets to, you know,
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: to the point of murdering, you know, it's like up
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: until that point, I'm on your side, man.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: And even after he's done murdering people, you still kind
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: of like him again.
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: So yeah, you still understand why he got to that point.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: So it's like, as long as you don't murder me,
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: Yeah. Like he was still like, I understood why he
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: was angry. I understood why he wanted to, you know,
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: he thought he deserved this. Like it, There's so many
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: times where I feel like they don't give us a
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: good villain. Killmonger was awesome and kind of a shame
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: that we had to lose him. So it was good
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: to even have this little moment of him in this
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: one because, yeah, he's, as a character and as an actor,
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: he's amazing.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but it also really told us where Shuri's head was.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: When she's getting this honor and this power bestowed upon her,
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: She's not coming into it like T'Challa did. She's coming
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: into it with vengeance.
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: It's not with noble mind. It's nothing but vengeance. Which
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: is the only thing I think from the action end
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: of it, I'm really glad where they ended with it.
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: Because it is, again, to be as important in the
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: real world as the story is. And to watch people
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: in the real world continually just kill each other for
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: no good reason.
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: It's like that's almost what we need to be. Again,
- 1:18:45Speaker 5: do I think I'm that am i somebody who'd be
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: way more into the vengeance version of it and want
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: to take out fish man yeah probably because again in
- 1:18:54Speaker 5: that moment it would make more sense for her to
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: do that to protect her people to get the vengeance
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: that she feels like she deserves but from the story
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: standpoint from the hero standpoint if she's going to be
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: a hero she needs to be that she needs to
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: have that nobility of like i'm better than that and
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: i do need to and so much as a tribute
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: to her brother because that's the kind of thing he
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: would have done even in like when we're introduced to
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: him like civil war he is ready to kill the
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: winter soldier like it is nothing but vengeance and by
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: the end of the movie, he's housing him, you know,
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: he's like, he comes full circle enough to see that
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: not only is that not the answer to kill the
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: bad guy, as we find out the real bad guy,
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: but in, you know, this person that I was so
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: angry at, I now find as an ally, and like,
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: I can find common ground, and like, I don't know, there's,
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: there's so much to that that mirrors what he was
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: as a person that, yeah, I'm so glad to see
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: them kind of wrap it up the way they did.
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: And again, almost more for real world reasons. Like this
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: is the lesson that we need to learn from this
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: is not the vengeance version. Again, I don't think I
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: would have gone that route. I'm, I'm a horrible person
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: and I would have just shoved a pike through his head,
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: but no, no, I, as a hero, you need to
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: be better than that.
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: But it was, it was interesting though, with how kind
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: of everything played out and how things set up and, Yeah, again,
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: now we've got two essentially secret societies that, like I said,
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: with a very tenuous alliance. But yeah, it will not last.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: I'm sure. Because, I mean, unless they want to make
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: a complete interesting turn and kind of have Wakanda go
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: the other way, where they basically... That's what I was wondering.
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: If they legitimately team up together, these two societies, versus.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: The U.S.
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: Government, the rest of the world, like anyone else that's
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: trying to come after them for, if nothing else, the vibranium.
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: But even just as their secrets that they hold, like
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: it would be interesting if they end up having to
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: legitimately be allies and go against, you know, the people
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: who used to be considered the good guys. But now
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: they just want power and ways to destroy people in
- 1:21:11Speaker 5: new and creative versions. Yeah.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's a lot of implications. But yeah, I mean,
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: there's so much kind of coming in the future. Because yeah,
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: we've got lots of real world stuff that is going on.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: But then there's all the multiversal timey-wimey stuff coming up too.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: And of course, we've got double dose of Avengers movies
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: coming the next few years as well.
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, it's been back and forth. Because I
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: was thinking that because this is capping off this phase...
- 1:21:39Speaker 5: I've said it on the last episode. I think like,
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: I feel like there's a lot of wheel spinning on
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: some of these movies that are just like, look, we
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: can't really get anywhere yet.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: We're going to set it up.
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: We got to do this and this, but we can't
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: really do any of that yet. Cause it's the next phase.
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: So it's like, it's been back and forth. I really
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: liked what they were doing with the Spider-Man movie.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: I liked Dr.
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: Strange, but just about all the rest of them along
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: the way have been like, look, there's only so much
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: we can accomplish and that's it. So I don't know. I,
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: It's been back and forth. I feel like this also
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: kind of suffers from that. But the other things it's doing,
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: it's doing so well that it's still a great experience overall.
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: It's just, again, there's only so much they can do. Plus,
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: they had the real world juggling of how do we
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: deal with losing our lead? How do we continue this?
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: And move into the direction we need to while still
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: finishing up his story, starting her new story, introducing this
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: new character. Here's a whole new group of people. Like,
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: it's a lot of stuff that is juggling there. But, yeah,
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: I feel like it's headed in a good direction, but
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: it didn't give them a whole lot of a chance
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: to tell much of an individual story because they had
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: so many other things they were doing along the way.
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: I mean, that's sometimes it can be perceived as a problem. Um,
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: but again, it's kind of like, it's the interesting thing
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: that they've done here. We're basically comic readers. We're used
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: to this sort of thing. We're used to basically six
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: different plots being spun around. And sometimes the events will
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: unfold quickly. Sometimes they unfold over a long period of
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: time and the trigger isn't pulled too much later. And
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: so we have to kind of set up things and
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: wait for stuff to happen or whatever else. Um, And
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: it's interesting that they do this in the movies. We're
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: going to start seeing them now that James Gunn and
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Peter Safran are in charge over at DC, kind of
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: having a Kevin Feige role.
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: We're going to see probably a lot more world building
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: over in DC in the next coming years. We're not
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: going to see it this year or next year or
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: whatever else.
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: It'll be interesting because, I mean, they've got it down
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: to a science at Marvel. So, like, we've watched DC
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: fumble it several times now.
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: And using one of the Marvel guys to do it
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: is even more weird.
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: But I will defend the fact that in the two
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: projects that James Gunn developed, being the Suicide Squad movie
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: and Peacemaker, in those two projects alone, he set up
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: other elements of the DC universe, introducing either physically getting
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: to see characters we never thought we'd see before, or
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: even just name-dropping characters. characters like okay it's one thing
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: to say green arrow it's a completely different thing to
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: name drop batmite which basically if you're a superman fan
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: and you know mr mitzel clicks yeah which is basically
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: an imp from the fifth dimension he bends reality and
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: does whatever he wants to do batmite same dude we're
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: not not same guy but same universe same place he
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: just has a fascination with batman and he's not so
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: much of a shithead Like, he wants to be Batman.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: That's why he dresses like Batman. He wants to do
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: nice hero things. Sometimes he screws it up because whatever else.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: But unlike Mr. Mitzelplix, he wants to be a good guy.
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: Whereas Mitzelplix loves being chaos.
- 1:24:50Speaker 5: Well, that's what I always give James Gunn credit. Like, he's... Again,
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: what he was doing before. Like, just as a filmmaker
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: in the early days, as low budget and goofy as
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: the stuff was, he was so good at it and
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: made him so likable that... And then giving him this
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: huge Marvel Universe and all this money to play with.
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: And he did it better than most people. And had
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: control over and a plan more than most people. Which
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: is also why DC wanted to steal him. So, yeah,
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: it's interesting to see what he's done. Definitely with the
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: Suicide Squad, which was rescuing another project that somebody had tanked. So, yeah,
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: he's really good at keeping stuff in check and fresh.
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: fun along the way, which not all of them can
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: do as well.
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, so he's got, they'll have a little bit of
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: catching up to do over in the DC universe of
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: world building and things, whatever else. But that's the one
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: thing they've done great with Marvel is that, you know,
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: if you're deep enough into this stuff as fans, you're
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: looking for the world building stuff as well. I mean, yeah,
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: you know, sometimes, you know, it's executed well where you
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: get both the world building and the focusing on an
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: individual movie, whatever else. So, you know, whether or not
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: Wakanda forever achieve both remains to be seen. I still
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: enjoyed it, but, of course, I did see a lot
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: of the big world-building stuff that is happening. Yeah. Which
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: is interesting that they did a lot more real-world stuff
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: in that. We know, like, the bigger, timey-wimey stuff is
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: coming in other projects, but, oh, yeah, here's some real-world
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: MacGuffins as well to deal with.
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: The fact that, hey, you know, we're adding one more
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: to the mutant list. We, you know, started with Kamala Khan, but, oh, hey,
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: guess what? We, you know, we got one guy that
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: came before her.
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: So we have now two mutants, we officially in the MCU,
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: and the fact that Vibranium is no longer... a proprietary
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: resource of Wakanda. It's now in other places.
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I forgot. Now we've also got the new Marvel
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: thing coming up, which had a whole bunch of other
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: stuff they introduced with Ms.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: Marvel.
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: So that's a whole lot of other monkey wrenches thrown
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: into it.
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: And that's going to be spacey stuff. And where that
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: all ties in, I guess maybe we'll see after we
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: get a trailer or something like that. But that's definitely
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: going to be spacey stuff.
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: So is it going to be spacey? In the same
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: way that the Guardians down the line is going to be?
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: Or is it a different area of spacey craziness?
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: I don't know because... There's so much in the works.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: Because for one, okay, we got that last scene where basically,
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: you know, we found out that the band she had
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: was basically a quantum band. So she has now switched
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: places with wherever Carol Danvers was at the moment. Yeah.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: But then we're also going to be bringing in Monica Rambeau.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: So we basically have all three of the Marvel's... Even
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: though they're basically going to establish her as Photon, they're
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: not going to give her the legacy that they see
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: at one point. She was also a Captain Marvel. But
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: they're at least sticking the three Marvels together in something,
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: in a project, doing things like that. How they're all
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: going to tie in together remains to be seen. Where
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: it all takes place, I don't know just yet. Aside
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: from casting and stuff like that, there really hasn't been
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: any revelations of what's going to happen in this movie.
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: And again, what I thought they did so well with Ms.
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: Marvel was like, they set up this story and they
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: put into play all of this stuff, but didn't sacrifice
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: any of it. Like we didn't know anything about them
- 1:28:06Speaker 5: as Marvel. Well, the captain Marvel tie into it till
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: that last second.
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: And like, other than that, like we were just busy
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: building this character and telling her story. And they focused
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: on that really well. So I liked that we still
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: get it by the end, but we didn't spend a
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: whole lot of time. We didn't give a whole lot
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: of extra stuff thrown in to distract from her story.
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: So the way they did that was, I think, almost perfect.
- 1:28:30Speaker 5: So they can do a little more of that, I
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: feel like. Just focus on the story and throw that
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: in there when you need to and then tie them
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: together in the next thing.
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: We established that Kamala was a big fan. when it
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: comes to Carol Danvers. So that was the connection there.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: The next phase of the MCU is going to be
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: going to a lot of different places. Because we've got
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: the Quantum Realm. We're going to see more spacey stuff.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: We're going to see wherever the place the Guardians are
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: going to take us to for their film. Plus monsters
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: are still coming down the line. Yeah, we got more
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: monster stuff. Well, Blade was supposed to be next year,
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: but now it's probably going to be until 24. So
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: I think, I can't remember if Thunderbolts is going to
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: be 23 or 24. I know next year is going
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: to be packed.
- 1:29:13Speaker 5: Yeah, because next up is Ant-Man, right? But then after
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: that is the Marvels for too long either.
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and then we're going to have, you know, this
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: thing is we're going to have so many like series
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: and movies coming.
- 1:29:25Speaker 5: For Marvel.
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: So they're kind of making up for lost time with
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: the pandemic. Yeah.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: I mean, they really did kind of drop off for
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: a while, which everybody did, but.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it set us back a little bit there. So
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: set back the timeline a bit there, but yeah. Yeah.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: So I just, I'm just very excited for a lot
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: of what the future is going to hold for this
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: next phase of things. Of course, I mean, we're all
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: still in the, this, this next saga, this multiverse saga.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: So we're at the beginning stages of it. Cause that's
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: the thing is that it's kind of, The fun thing
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: is if you didn't read the comics the first time
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: around when we're creating the Avengers and setting up the
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: Infinity Gauntlet stuff, you didn't know where it was going either.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: You're just like, okay, here's all these introductions, all these superheroes,
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: and here's some bad guys. And who's that purple dude?
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: And then, oh, okay, that purple dude's coming up again here. Oh,
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: wait a minute. Now we got some bigger things. So
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: we still haven't unfolded yet to where we're going here.
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: But I think next year in February with Ant-Man coming out,
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: that's going to be– I think the door's going to
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: get kicked wide open as to where we're going and
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: what our main problem's going to be.
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: It does look insane. It does. Based on that trailer.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: And that's good.
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: As close as we get to the Doctor Strange insanity,
- 1:30:34Speaker 5: which was pretty crazy. Mostly, I liked the last movie
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: way more, so I like that level of dark insanity more.
- 1:30:41Speaker 5: So yeah, this one, I don't know if it's going
- 1:30:43Speaker 5: dark and creepy, but it's definitely going weird, so.
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: I don't think it's going dark and creepy, but weird, yes. Because,
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: I mean, we're in the, you know, Quantum Realm stuff's
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: gonna be some cool stuff. But yeah, not necessarily dark
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: and creepy, unless we're dealing with some Some Kang stuff
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: may be dark and creepy.
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: Could be.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: But, yeah. I've done a couple interesting little Easter eggs
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: recently with Mr. Scott Lang. Because I can't remember which...
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: If it was the Spider-Man... Last Spider-Man movie or something
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: like that. But there was a little Easter egg dropped
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: in there about... That Scott had a podcast. Called, like,
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Big Me, Little Tiny Me or something like that. And the.
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: Opening scene, we're watching CNN and they're announcing the death
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: of T'Challa. If you looked at the crawl, Scott Lang's
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: got a book out. It's a tell-all autobiography.
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: And people will still not know who he is. I
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: like that he will just, so far at least, never
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: get any respect.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: Thank you, Spider-Man. He's like, ugh.
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: That was almost as good as, you want a picture
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: with me? No, no? All right, fine.
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: Ah, come on, this guy wants to.
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: He'll just never... Get any respect.
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: That's fun.
- 1:31:55Speaker 5: That's kind of, yeah.
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: Except at Baskin-Robbins where he's employed the century.
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: I mean, you know, hand out little plastic scoops, free samples.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you know, you work at, you know,
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: Baskin-Robbins by day and then save the multiverse by night,
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: you know, from Thanos. You know, that's going above and
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: beyond the call of duty there.
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: Maybe he will also save Baskin-Robbins. Because I thought most
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: of them were under by now. So he might have
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: to rescue the whole franchise.
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: There's just a little Baskin Robbins in my town. Actually,
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: there's two.
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: Most of them are gone, though. Compared to, they used
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: to be all over the place.
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:30Speaker 5: There's not near as many. So I was concerned the
- 1:32:33Speaker 5: whole thing was going to pull. But maybe with Ant-Man's help,
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: we can rescue this ice cream franchise. That's his real focus. And,
- 1:32:42Speaker 5: you know, save the universe or whatever. But mostly ice cream. Oh.
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and another fun thing I learned, too, is that apparently,
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: I haven't heard what the titles were, but they had
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: a hard time picking what the subtitle for this Black
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: Panther movie was going to be. Yeah. Which, it's funny
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: because Wakanda forever.
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: I was going to say, that would be the easiest one,
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: I feel like, is where they landed.
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it does, but apparently there were hundreds they were
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: going through and kind of, you know... Yeah, let's try
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: this one. Maybe this one. So they land on Wakanda forever.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: That just seemed very obvious.
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: I feel like everything else about where that movie was
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: going would have been the hard part. Like, oh, we
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: don't have a lead. Oh, our story's all shot to hell.
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: But the subtitle would be the easiest thing to come
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: up with.
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: Black Panther 2. Fuck cancer. Really?
- 1:33:29Speaker 5: I don't know. I was like, yeah, that's the carryover
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: from everything is Wakanda forever, man.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: So, but yeah, again, I was entertained by the film.
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: I think it achieved, you know, a very fitting tribute
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: to Chadwick and then end up being, you know, Ramonda
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: as well. I was kind of irritated about you losing
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: Angela Bassett. Yeah.
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: She's amazing. I mean, we knew that, but like the
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: whole scene where she goes off on everything, she's lost.
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: I'm like, that's a powerful, I mean, that is one
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: of those, like they can start flashing Oscar clip at
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: the bottom. Cause I mean, it was that level of
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: like amazing performance there. And yeah, I don't know that
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: anyone else will care along those lines, but for Marvel Universe,
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: that's a hell of a performance. So yeah, it is
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: kind of sad that, especially when it doesn't even go anywhere,
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: like it isn't like... And then, you know, because of that,
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: we end up, you know, putting down this whole society
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: that was evildoers and they need to die. And like, no,
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: now we're allies with them, even though they killed your mom.
- 1:34:32Speaker 5: Now you are being really noble because.
- 1:34:35Speaker 7: yeah pike through the head well yeah and i didn't
- 1:34:39Speaker 7: get 100 clear if that was supposed to be like
- 1:34:41Speaker 7: namor's daughter that was killed or if he just kind
- 1:34:44Speaker 7: of just like you're my child as in a child
- 1:34:46Speaker 7: of atlantis sort of thing like that you know sort
- 1:34:48Speaker 7: of thing but basically they.
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: Killed some of his people that he didn't care about
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: and so that's what caused.
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: Him to that's another one of those that kind of
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: bugged me we spent a lot more time with him
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: than i feel like we need to well i mean
- 1:34:58Speaker 5: we didn't get it like but i don't dislike the
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: actor i think he did a good job he does
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: come off as like a A formidable villain, but like,
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: I don't know. We spend a lot of time with
- 1:35:08Speaker 5: him in that middle part there. And I'm like, by
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: the end, I'm like, I don't really care that much
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: about him to have logged in as much time as
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: we did with them. He could have been more of
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: a caricature and it wouldn't have affected the story any.
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: Maybe down the line he'll actually be more useful, but
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: I think we needed to spend a little more time
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: on him because he's such a complex character.
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: Yeah, if he's going to be more. Like, I don't know.
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: I feel like we didn't get that much out of
- 1:35:34Speaker 5: where we went with it.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: It was fine. Like, it... It's one movie. Time will
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: tell what's going to be there. Interesting fun fact. We
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: have seen Chinook. I can't remember what his last name is,
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: but the gentleman who played Namor. We've actually seen him
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: once before, but it was a long time ago. The
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: Constantine movie. The beginning of the movie where basically the
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: Spear of Destiny is being passed around and we see
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: a little kid run off with it that's possessed. That
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: was him.
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: So we weren't really introducing him at all. He's been
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: around the whole time.
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: A buddy of mine pointed that out as well. I'm like,
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: no kidding. That was him, huh?
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: He was a skinny little kid then, but he filled
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: out quite a lot. Maybe he'll come back as we
- 1:36:21Speaker 5: get Constantine II, which is supposedly in the works now.
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: So maybe we can work him back in.
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: Don't get me started on that Constantine II. It's not
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: that I have any hatred at all for the movie
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: or for Keanu Reeves.
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: We all love Keanu now.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: It's okay. But when we've had, for a number of years,
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: Matt Ryan play the role of Constine on television, two series,
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: making multiple appearances throughout other series, throughout the CW-verse, doing
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: animated films and whatever else, basically carrying this role of
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: Constine for longer than Keanu had it.
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: Well longer, yeah. And.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: He, A, is British, because the character Constantine is. He
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: looks like him. And he acts a hell of a
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: lot more like him than Keanu did in the movie.
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: Keanu's totally British.
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: What are you talking about? Why are we waiting so
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: long to do this? I mean, I know Keanu enjoyed
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: the character. He enjoyed his time in the movie. He
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: enjoyed working with Francis Lawrence, who directed the film. But
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: why we waited so long to do a sequel... And
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: why now?
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: Because like, well, it is interesting that like we've built up,
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: like we've almost redeemed his character with this other guy.
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: And now as soon as it's popular again, they're just like, ah,
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: forget you. We're going back to this guy over here
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: that everybody hated when he did it. But now we
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: love him for playing a different character. So we're going
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: to let him go back to that guy and screw
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: you for carrying it around this last five to 10 years.
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: You know, thanks a lot, but we'll take it back
- 1:37:50Speaker 5: from you now.
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. So it just kind of like, it kind
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: of rubs me the wrong way. It's like, And it
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: would be confusing to use Matt Ryan in any way, shape,
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: or form unless, like, I don't know, he goes into
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: some mirror world or.
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: Something like that.
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: Multiverse event. Yeah, I mean, well, it's all kinds of
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: weird shit could happen. Like, he could see himself in
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: the mirror and he looks like Matt Ryan.
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: And he did, like, that's the thing. As much as
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: I didn't like the show he was on, he was, like,
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: the best part of it. Like, anything I watched in
- 1:38:16Speaker 5: that crazy little universe that built up there, he was
- 1:38:20Speaker 5: always good at doing that. And, like, he really did
- 1:38:23Speaker 5: seem like he had a handle on... The character that
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: people knew before Keanu came along. He was doing a
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: better job at doing that. And his powers and everything
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: sort of worked better along those lines.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: But yeah, that's... And what's also interesting too is that
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: if you've seen the Sandman series, it's on Netflix. They
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: have the Constantine character on there, but they gender swapped it.
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: Because basically Neil Gaiman's like, I want to make this
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: thing 100% separate. From the DC universe. Even though in
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: the comics, the Sandman and the DC universe are, they
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: are linked. Yeah. But he's like, I want to keep
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: this as a separate thing, a separate world, not for
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: the superhero stuff. So he gender swapped and made it,
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: you know, she's Lady Joanna Constantine. Nice. Aside from having
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: boobs and a vagina, it's the same character. She's smarmy.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: She will screw anything that moves. That's what I was
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: going to say.
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: It doesn't really matter what gender. Constantine doesn't seem to care.
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: She smokes. She drinks. She's shifty. She's shady. She's selfish.
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: It's everything the character you want, except she's prettier than
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: Matt Ryan. Sorry, Matt. What are you going to do?
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: It's weird. We've got three iterations of the same character.
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: Two are highly accurate. One is kind of there. But
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: he's a big star.
- 1:39:39Speaker 5: Of the other two, how many have played John Wick? Sorry, guys.
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: People really like John Wick. But this is like John
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: Wick 5, the Constantine years.
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: But I'm at least curious now with the accuracy we've
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: seen from Matt Ryan's performance as Constantine, will we see
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: some of that rub off on Keanu?
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, because, again, it's almost redeemed the character
- 1:40:02Speaker 5: a little bit in recent years that maybe now we
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: can lean more towards that character versus the entirely different
- 1:40:09Speaker 5: thing that he was doing that first movie.
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: Because I would like to see him be far more
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: unlikable in the sequel than he was in the original.
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: Because that's the thing is that You know, he's somewhat unlikable,
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: somewhat curt, you know, whatnot. For the most part, though, he's.
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: He's still just sort of Keanu.
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: Like, yeah. He's still kind of a nice guy. I
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: want to see him be a bit more dickish.
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: And, you know, granted, you know, Constantine still does do
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: the right thing, but sometimes, like, he has to, like,
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: sacrifice his friends to get the job done, and unfortunately
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: his friends are not in on the plan. They're being sacrificed.
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: Oops.
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: Yeah, there's some difficulty there, so, you know.
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: So there you go. Wizards. Even more crazy comic book stuff.
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: Wizards.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: What are you going to do, man? Yeah.
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: But, yeah, I agree. I think the most successful thing
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: about this is the sort of tribute to both the
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: character and the actor.
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: That is 100%.
- 1:41:03Speaker 5: It does that. And by the end, I mean, we
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: already kind of touched on the big. Mid-credits scene that
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: we also didn't get a post-credits scene? What's that about?
- 1:41:13Speaker 5: Usually they've been throwing tons of in there. Now this time,
- 1:41:16Speaker 5: I sat there the whole time and was like, really? Nothing?
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: Well, see, I think that was, I'd heard ahead of
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: time that we were going to get only one scene. Yeah.
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: But I heard that the scene was a big one.
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: Which it is, I will give it.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: It is a big scene, yeah.
- 1:41:30Speaker 5: But I was like, is that them being respectful? I
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: think it's true. Because they kind of did that with
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: that last Avengers, too, of like, okay, we just killed
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: Iron Man and let's go out on a subtle note
- 1:41:41Speaker 5: and not do a big, oh, look, here's... Samuel L.
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: Jackson showing up again.
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: Well, and the thing, too, is that, you know, Endgame
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: was literally the ending of that saga. That whole arc, yeah.
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: So we couldn't necessarily drop stuff for the future, even
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: though they kind of would send some applications.
- 1:41:56Speaker 5: Even though they did, they just changed their mind, because
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: then they used it in the Scarlet Witch setup. Like,
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: that was originally supposed to be the post-credits.
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. But, yeah, so it's, you know, there's some
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: stuff they end up setting up down the line, but
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: it's like, we want to have this, like, this is
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: a definitive kind of, stopping point for that so phase
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: four you know the end with Black Panther kind of
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: Wakanda Forever kind of ending that does twofold thing one
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: it is a bit of an honoring of Chadwick and
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: then giving this legacy character you know a new showcase
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: here but it also is like this is kind of
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: a stop to here's maybe like the end of all
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: of our introductions yeah of all of our new heroes
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: and You know, it's like we've got our Shang-Chi. We've
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: got our Moon Knights. We've got our Ms. Marvels. You know,
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: we've got a new Wakandan Black Panther now. You know,
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: we've got possibly some new Avengers coming up down the line.
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: Stuff like that. Maybe some young legacy heroes coming down
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: the line as well. So we've got a lot of things.
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: A lot of stuff in play in this last phase.
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: So now basically Ant-Man starting the new phase is going
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: to be like, okay, here's building to our larger conflict.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, we've got some real world stuff going
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: on too. We're going to deal with some other shows
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: and whatnot. But in the movies... We're dealing with Kang.
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: We're dealing with the timey-wimey stuff.
- 1:43:10Speaker 5: We're heading towards it slowly but surely.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: And I will be there to hold everyone's hand and
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: explain things when shit starts getting hairy.
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: I'm sure I will have a lot of ridiculous questions.
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: That's what I do.
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: I mean, if you just pick apart the Ant-Man trailer
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: and some of the weird shit we see, like basically
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: Ant-Man running alongside other versions of himself as they seem
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: to be dissolving away, like how kind of You know,
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: Wanda took out Mr. Fantastic. Basically turned him into Silly String.
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: So it's like, what's up with all that? What's up
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: with all these people kind of coming over the hillside
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: looking like warriors approaching Ant-Man and all them? Who are
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: those dudes? And what's all this going on here?
- 1:43:52Speaker 5: I just like his daughter also gets a suit. So
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: we can have the whole family in crazy bug suits.
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: Well, of course.
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: I mean, you can't stay in the quantum realm for
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: too long and not be affected by it without having
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: some kind of protection.
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: Does she get to be like the termite or something?
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: What bug character can we turn her into?
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. Actually, Cassie does not take a
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: bug character. Oh, man. Well, see, they got Ant-Man, they
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: got Wasp. So what other bug are you going to
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: do that sounds cool?
- 1:44:19Speaker 6: Termite.
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: Termites are super cool.
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: She doesn't take that because in the comics, what she
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: ends up doing is she doesn't do the tiny growth.
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: She does the overgrowth. So she takes the name Stature
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: because she likes to get big.
- 1:44:36Speaker 5: Well, they do make use of the big. Any chance
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: they've got so far.
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: So whether or not Cassie's going to start using that,
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: because that's the thing is we know she gets a suit.
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: We know she's involved in the adventure and stuff, but
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: we haven't seen what her power set's going to look like.
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: So is she going to And big and basically be,
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: you know, giant Cassie.
- 1:44:56Speaker 5: That was what was always an odd choice. For a
- 1:44:59Speaker 5: guy named Ant-Man, you get giant a whole lot, dude.
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: But that's a nod to the fact that Hank Pym
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: has basically been Ant-Man. He's been Giant-Man. He's been Yellowjacket.
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: He's been Goliath. And then he went by his own
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: damn name, Hank Pym.
- 1:45:17Speaker 5: I do like that he's hanging in there too. And
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: now we get way more Michelle Pfeiffer in this one.
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: So I was glad to see that.
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: And I love that whole implication of Michelle Pfeiffer. It's
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: like she.
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: I've been here.
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: Like, I've been here. Why are you signaling? What is
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: she so afraid of? Is she afraid of Kang? Or
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: is there something else that she's afraid of?
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: So, yeah. So I just.
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: Again, that's a.
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: So we kind of get to an end of one part.
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: We get to the end of a section of this
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: very large book that is the multiverse saga.
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: And so now our next chapter starts up next year
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: in February with Ant-Man. And shit's going to get.
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: Weird, folks.
- 1:45:53Speaker 5: I believe it.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: I'm just setting you up for it.
- 1:45:56Speaker 5: But yeah, points to... I still want to give credit
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: to Ryan Coogler. I do want to see... Is he
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: going to... I mean, this is the only thing he's
- 1:46:04Speaker 5: done since he started on this... You know, it's like he's... Well,
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: he did.
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: The Creed movies, too.
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: Well, no, I'm saying, well, again, he did the first one,
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: and then he got involved in this, and he couldn't
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: do the second one because of that. Now, he's still
- 1:46:16Speaker 5: connected to them. Yeah. Because that's what I noticed. I
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: also got the new Creed trailer at the beginning of that.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: And directed by Michael B. Jordan.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46:26Speaker 5: But then I also, looking at the... Because he doesn't
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: have director stuff coming up for feature, but he did
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: have a story by credit for that third Creed movie.
- 1:46:35Speaker 5: So he is still connected to it all. But I
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: do want to see now that he's got... Because he
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: jumped to this status real quick. It's like Fruitvale Station, Creed,
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: and then this is what he's done since then. So
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: it's like, is he going to veer off and do
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: a regular non-Marvel-y movie? I'd kind of like to see
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: what else he does as a director. Because again, visuals...
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: And the fact that he, coming from doing a couple
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: of movies... is thrown in the middle of this and
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: has juggled it pretty well, especially losing one of his
- 1:47:06Speaker 5: best friends and hero like along the way and still
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: delivered a movie that at least looks and continues to
- 1:47:13Speaker 5: do all these things that this had to do. Like he's,
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: he's a hell of a director. So I do want
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: to see where he's going to go if he's staying
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: with Marvel or if he's going to take a break
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: and do other stuff either way. Like he's, he's such
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: an amazing director. I want to see what else he
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: can work on.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: Some interviews he's done, I have a feeling he's leaning
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: towards taking a break from Marvel and doing something else.
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, there is just that gap. Because I
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: was looking, I was like, did he at least do
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: something in between? But no, it's like he went from
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: making Black Panther to working on the next one and
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: then dealing with all the aftermath of losing his best friend.
- 1:47:48Speaker 5: So it's like, yeah, it's... Taken a toll on him,
- 1:47:52Speaker 5: I'm assuming. So it would be nice to see him
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: do something normal again.
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Ryan has kind of implicated that. This one definitely
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: took a toll on him. So either he's going to
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: take a very long vacation, or he will move to
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: a much smaller project for the next thing he does.
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: But I'm sure this is not the last we've seen
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: of him as a director in Marvel. because he's proven
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: himself twice over as basically doing, you know, very great films,
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: beautiful movies, and they also bring in the money.
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: And Marvel loves all of that. That's, again.
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: so many times they take these up and coming directors
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: and throw them in the middle of this and then
- 1:48:33Speaker 5: it goes to hell. So he was like the exception
- 1:48:35Speaker 5: of like, no, you came from, you know, a little
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: indie movie that you made by yourself to thrown in
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: the middle of Marvel and then delivered at the time,
- 1:48:43Speaker 5: the biggest box office ever. So like, that's pretty impressive.
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: So yeah, he can handle that end of it too.
- 1:48:49Speaker 5: So I do want to see where he goes after this.
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: Yeah. I'd like to see more from him definitely with
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: other films and with other Marvel stuff too. But yeah,
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: give the man a good, yeah he deserves to take
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: a break yeah yeah get yourself a nice island vacation
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: for a good six months make a.
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: Nice little indie movie you know spend some time with
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: your family you can still make an indie drama with
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: michael b jordan and it'll be all good you can
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: work him into anything because he is also amazing so
- 1:49:16Speaker 5: it's good to see they're still working together they're still
- 1:49:19Speaker 5: still seem to be tight because i think he's still
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: Executive producer on the new Creed.
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: That new Creed looks good.
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: It looks cool.
- 1:49:26Speaker 2: You got Killmonger versus Kang.
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: It looks good.
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: Every time I see Jonathan Majors in something, I just
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: like him more.
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: I was glad to see that on there.
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: Well, we've, as per usual, been all over the Marvel
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: Universe and back.
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: It's a big space.
- 1:49:45Speaker 5: We'll be back for Ant-Man, I suppose.
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: Until then, I'm sure we'll find something else to talk about.
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure we will. We can always have a
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: thorough discussion of the new Weird Al movie. Because I've
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: already watched that three times.
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: Or, you know, our Christmas edition of Violent Night. You
- 1:50:05Speaker 5: can watch David Harbour beat people up as Santa.
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: Oh, and you would appreciate this. There's a comic company
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: called American Mythology Productions. And they've been grabbing little franchises
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: here and there and trying stuff. They've recently done Night
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: of the Living Dead. They've done Fright Night, Willy's Wonderland.
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: Their next entry, Silent Night, Deadly Night. Well, there we go.
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: First issue coming out in time for the holidays.
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: There could be a tie-in to that coming up in
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: the very near future.
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: As you may have already heard.
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: I can't wait to get naughty.
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: So, we'll see if we come up with anything between
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: now and the end of this year. But if not,
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: we know Ant-Man is waiting in the wings there.
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: No pun intended.
- 1:50:51Speaker 5: No, that's Wasp.
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: The flying ants have wings, damn it.
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: Nah, they don't count. Those are just some sort of
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: mosquito or something.
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: Cheating.
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: I'm going to get an entomologist after you to kick
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: your ass.
- 1:51:06Speaker 5: On that note, let's round this out. So, Otherwise, that
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: about does it. We will return next time. Same geek feed.
- 1:51:12Speaker 5: Thanks for listening.
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: Y'all take care now.
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: She's scratching at my door in the middle of the night.
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: Got a little black panther, she is insane She gets
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: high in the middle of the day She's scratching at
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: my brain The way she traps around She's insane She's
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: my little black panther of love.
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: I got a little back there, you know she has
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: her say.
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: She gets high in the middle of the day. If
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: she wants it, she will and she can't go the
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: other way. If you see her coming, you better not pay.
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: She's scratching at my brain The way she traps you
- 1:52:55Speaker 3: out She's insane. You know she feels all right. She's
- 1:53:18Speaker 3: my little black belt. And she rules the night. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
- 1:53:54Speaker 3: She's scratching at my brain. The way she drives around.
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: She's insane. You know she feels alright. She's my little
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: black battle lover. And she rules the night. She's my
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: little black battle lover. Good stuff.
- 1:54:41Speaker 5: A whole lot of stuff. Much like the Marvel Universe.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: There's a whole lot of stuff going on.
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: There is.
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: Good lord.
