- 0:03Speaker 1: Grayson Rodriguez is here from the Oils back on FT
- 0:06Speaker 1: Grace and great to see you, man. Always love the smile.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I know you're going through it a little bit right now.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Always really appreciate you coming on during these times too.
- 0:13Speaker 1: So first off, of course, want to start with how
- 0:16Speaker 1: you're doing and what's next for you?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'm doing all right. You know I
- 0:20Speaker 2: could be better. You know, I wish I was out
- 0:21Speaker 2: there and he's time around the IL is bad deal.
- 0:24Speaker 2: But yeah, so it looks like I'm gonna have some
- 0:27Speaker 2: some bone chips removed next week. That's kind of the
- 0:29Speaker 2: plan right now. But like I said, just grinding trying
- 0:33Speaker 2: to get back out there. I think, is really that
- 0:35Speaker 2: all you can do?
- 0:37Speaker 3: Hey, Grace, you know you you one of my favorite arms,
- 0:40Speaker 3: and I'm still going to continue to put it out there.
- 0:42Speaker 3: You will get that cy young to get back healthy.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I believe it.
- 0:46Speaker 3: But here we are, right and I just want to
- 0:48Speaker 3: know a guy that's been through injuries myself, you know
- 0:53Speaker 3: how hard is it one watching your team knowing they
- 0:55Speaker 3: could use your arm every five days? And then two, like,
- 0:59Speaker 3: what's your mentality process on going through this? Are you
- 1:01Speaker 3: relieve that it isn't worse than you know, than.
- 1:04Speaker 4: It could have been.
- 1:04Speaker 3: There, Like, where are you mentally on this right now?
- 1:07Speaker 3: As far as the steps and process moving forward.
- 1:10Speaker 2: First off, I appreciate the confidence that means a lot
- 1:12Speaker 2: coming from you, So thank you.
- 1:13Speaker 5: For saying that.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, dude, right now obviously, like you know,
- 1:19Speaker 2: like you said, it could be a lot worse. I mean,
- 1:20Speaker 2: that's that's kind of how I've been looking at it.
- 1:23Speaker 2: You know, it could be TJ, it could be you know,
- 1:26Speaker 2: some kind of shoulder surgery. You know, it's you know,
- 1:29Speaker 2: each little setback has been minor, but you know it's
- 1:34Speaker 2: something that you can't push through because then it'll turn
- 1:36Speaker 2: into something major. So I think for me, the most
- 1:39Speaker 2: frustrating part right now is kind of figuring out, you know,
- 1:43Speaker 2: why we keep having these little setbacks and you know,
- 1:46Speaker 2: really trying to you know, look into the specifics of things.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And right now, I mean, I think, you know, these
- 1:53Speaker 2: kind of these bone chips are kind of you know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: creating all that.
- 1:58Speaker 5: You know, it's something that I've kind of dealt.
- 1:59Speaker 2: With for the last three or four seasons and now
- 2:03Speaker 2: just kind of gotten to the point where you know,
- 2:05Speaker 2: it's really kind of you can't really push through it,
- 2:08Speaker 2: you know, like you're saying, you don't want, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 2: to play through an injury, and then it starts to
- 2:13Speaker 2: turn into something else and something you know severe. So
- 2:16Speaker 2: obviously it's frustrating right now. Man, just trying to trying
- 2:20Speaker 2: to get through it, you know, leaning on my family,
- 2:22Speaker 2: my teammates, everybody's been pretty supportive.
- 2:25Speaker 5: You know. Like I said, it's really hard not being
- 2:26Speaker 5: able to be out there and and to pitch.
- 2:28Speaker 2: But uh, you know, we got to get this thing
- 2:30Speaker 2: fixed and you know, do everything we can to get
- 2:34Speaker 2: back out there and get back to being healthy.
- 2:38Speaker 6: I gotta just flip the switch. That background, Is that
- 2:40Speaker 6: a background or is that real in the back of
- 2:42Speaker 6: your house there. I mean, that's probably the incredible background.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I always rock.
- 2:46Speaker 5: I've ever, I've ever.
- 2:47Speaker 6: That's my first time talking to them, I mean that
- 2:49Speaker 6: is absolutely incredible.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, phrase, this is the first time I think you've
- 2:53Speaker 2: you've been on the show.
- 2:54Speaker 4: When I've been on.
- 2:55Speaker 5: I feel like I've been on a bunch, but you
- 2:57Speaker 5: know you've always duck me, so uh yeah, I like exactly.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 2: So I've been I mean very fortunate to have been
- 3:10Speaker 2: raised in the outdoors.
- 3:13Speaker 5: I live in Texas.
- 3:14Speaker 2: My my uncle is a wildlife biologist and you know,
- 3:18Speaker 2: specializes in deer management and everything. So I like to
- 3:22Speaker 2: you know, think I do the right things when I
- 3:24Speaker 2: hunt outdoors. But yeah, being raised by family that that's
- 3:28Speaker 2: hunted and stuff, yeah, I mean I've done it, done
- 3:32Speaker 2: it my whole life.
- 3:32Speaker 5: I like being outside.
- 3:34Speaker 6: Now, any any of those Jersey bucks or no, you're
- 3:37Speaker 6: not allowed up here to you're not allowed in Jersey.
- 3:41Speaker 2: So yeah, so I've hunted Jersey bucks. Now the Jersey
- 3:44Speaker 2: bucks have slipped me. Yeah, I mean I'm gonna I'm
- 3:48Speaker 2: gonna try it again. You know this. I'm gonna try
- 3:50Speaker 2: it again this offseason. But Jersey the Maryland Bucks. Yeah,
- 3:54Speaker 2: the Jersey and the Maryland Bucks has given me the
- 3:56Speaker 2: slip so far.
- 3:57Speaker 6: They're they're Italian bucks. They know out a swindle, they
- 4:01Speaker 6: know where to go and everything, so watch out.
- 4:02Speaker 7: No, I'm kidding, they're tough. They're tough.
- 4:05Speaker 6: Hey, they'll go ahead you're doing and they'll be in
- 4:06Speaker 6: a different part. I know Scott wants to talk a
- 4:11Speaker 6: little bit more about the injury. I want to talk
- 4:12Speaker 6: about some of the trade tips you got going on
- 4:14Speaker 6: here are not trade ships guys that have left. You know,
- 4:17Speaker 6: you got to know the Ryan o'harons and Cedric mullins
- 4:19Speaker 6: of the world. I know you're gonna miss him. Got
- 4:22Speaker 6: some new guys coming in. Where do you see the
- 4:24Speaker 6: direction of these Orioles going with all the acquisitions and
- 4:27Speaker 6: guys that left.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah, So I mean, obviously, you know, it really sucks
- 4:31Speaker 2: to lose teammates, you know, like you said, you know
- 4:33Speaker 2: Cedric O'Hearn, you know, those are two, you know, unbelievable guys,
- 4:38Speaker 2: clubhouse leaders. But I mean when you really kind of
- 4:42Speaker 2: you know, you have to look back at you know,
- 4:45Speaker 2: you know what's what's who's still on a team, and
- 4:47Speaker 2: you know, you kind of you know, you move on.
- 4:49Speaker 2: You know, you know, whatever happens yesterday, you know, is
- 4:51Speaker 2: not gonna affect.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Us today or tomorrow.
- 4:55Speaker 2: You know, being in Baltimore, we have an extremely young,
- 4:59Speaker 2: talented corps group of guys. You know, a lot of
- 5:02Speaker 2: guys like Gunner, Jordan Westburg, Colton Cowser, I mean, Adley
- 5:06Speaker 2: like you know, a lot of us played in the
- 5:07Speaker 2: minor leagues coming up together. So you know, you know
- 5:11Speaker 2: we're obviously going to stay together. You know, that's kind
- 5:13Speaker 2: of the focus. I mean, there's a lot of guys
- 5:16Speaker 2: you know, obviously still left in the clubhouse, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 2: that can go out and win a World Series next year,
- 5:22Speaker 2: you know, years down the road. But yeah, I mean,
- 5:25Speaker 2: you know, it's you know, the trade deadline. You know,
- 5:27Speaker 2: you're either you know you're getting players or you know,
- 5:31Speaker 2: trading them away. And you know, unfortunately for us, this
- 5:34Speaker 2: is the first time, you know, we've had to experience
- 5:36Speaker 2: something like that.
- 5:37Speaker 5: But I think, you know, in all, it's gonna make
- 5:39Speaker 5: us better ballplayers.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You know, a lot of guys we haven't been in
- 5:42Speaker 2: the big leagues for too long, and you know, kind
- 5:45Speaker 2: of seeing this and you know, know, you know how
- 5:47Speaker 2: bad it sucks. That's just gonna you know, motivate us
- 5:52Speaker 2: next year for this not to happen. Ever again, I
- 5:54Speaker 2: think it's kind of how you know, we're looking at
- 5:56Speaker 2: it a.
- 5:58Speaker 1: J I'm on my phone right now in arena clubs,
- 6:00Speaker 1: and I'm looking at the Emerald slab packs and I
- 6:03Speaker 1: see in the grail a Bobby Witt Junior twenty twenty
- 6:05Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome.
- 6:06Speaker 7: Prospect Auto Gold Refractor card.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Give me that, give me your phone. I'm gonna I'm gonna.
- 6:12Speaker 7: Get you well you gotta buy it to me. I
- 6:14Speaker 7: don't have it.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You know, you have to get a slab pack. No,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I don't have that, and give me your slab pack.
- 6:18Speaker 1: That card's worth you buy your.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Slab pack, Scott, so I can get the Bobby Witt
- 6:22Speaker 4: Junior Gold Refractor twenty twenty Bowman Chrome Auto.
- 6:25Speaker 7: Because that sounds awesome and it's worth a lot.
- 6:27Speaker 4: It's worth a lot. He's a stud, he's not going down.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Get a grill. Get a grill. I want a grail, Scott,
- 6:33Speaker 4: give me the holy grill. You do it.
- 6:35Speaker 1: To do that, you must get yourself a slab pack
- 6:38Speaker 1: in Arena Club or if you want to get it
- 6:39Speaker 1: for a friend, you can do that too. And right
- 6:41Speaker 1: now you can get twenty percent off your first slab
- 6:44Speaker 1: pack or your first card purchase if you're going on
- 6:46Speaker 1: there and you're just like, hey, I want a specific card.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I find it there, I want to grab it for
- 6:50Speaker 1: my showroom. Arena Club dot com slash foul and use
- 6:54Speaker 1: the code fo U l gras and I'll relate this
- 6:58Speaker 1: to you for a moment too. So, yeah, the team,
- 7:01Speaker 1: you know it's it's not going to be a playoff
- 7:03Speaker 1: team this year. So that's what you do at the deadline,
- 7:05Speaker 1: You sell so that you can load up for the future.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Did any of your decision making, like with the surgery
- 7:10Speaker 1: you have to do with where the team is at
- 7:11Speaker 1: as well. Would this have happened regardless or like, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: like sometimes guys will be like, I'm going to try
- 7:16Speaker 1: and push through it.
- 7:17Speaker 7: I think Reese Olsen right now is a shoulder injury.
- 7:19Speaker 1: With the Tigers, and he's like, I might be able
- 7:21Speaker 1: to come back in October.
- 7:22Speaker 7: No surgery for now. Was any of that on the table?
- 7:25Speaker 1: And because of the team's not going to be playing
- 7:27Speaker 1: in October, you can be like, hey, I need to
- 7:29Speaker 1: get right and be ready to jump at spring training
- 7:32Speaker 1: next year.
- 7:34Speaker 2: No, not really, you know, I mean obviously, you know
- 7:37Speaker 2: I ended the year on the il last year, you know,
- 7:40Speaker 2: tried to get back for the playoffs and that wasn't possible.
- 7:44Speaker 5: But no, I mean I don't.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Think really, you know, how the team was playing had
- 7:48Speaker 2: an effect on my decision. I think for me personally,
- 7:52Speaker 2: it just got to a point where Okay, I can't
- 7:55Speaker 2: pitch through this. I tried, you know, since spring training
- 7:58Speaker 2: I had an issue with it. It was the second
- 8:01Speaker 2: start of my spring training where I had to come
- 8:03Speaker 2: out early and it was due to these you know,
- 8:06Speaker 2: the bone chips and stuff in my elbow that just
- 8:08Speaker 2: you know, it had too much inflammation, uh in the area,
- 8:12Speaker 2: and you know kind of you know, rehabbing through the
- 8:14Speaker 2: first half of the season. You know, finally, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 2: you just kind of get to a point where it's like, Okay,
- 8:20Speaker 2: you know, I've dealt with this for three or four
- 8:22Speaker 2: years now, and now it's just to the point where.
- 8:26Speaker 5: You know, it's just you know, it sucks. It just
- 8:28Speaker 5: you know, won't go away and.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Said, no, I have I have to get it taken
- 8:32Speaker 2: care of, you know, in order to you know, be
- 8:35Speaker 2: who I want to be next season, you know, I
- 8:39Speaker 2: think is most important uh to me, and just trying
- 8:43Speaker 2: to get everything ironed out so I can come back
- 8:45Speaker 2: next year and you know, hopefully you know, make thirty
- 8:48Speaker 2: starts and take a team into the postseason.
- 8:56Speaker 7: Cam you muted.
- 8:59Speaker 3: So sorry you talk about losing some of those veteran guys, right,
- 9:02Speaker 3: and Cedric Mullins has been there for a long time.
- 9:05Speaker 4: O'Hearn has been around the game.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I think everybody has an ability to lead in their
- 9:10Speaker 3: own way, right, I don't I don't believe truly, you
- 9:13Speaker 3: you know, it's just one guy that leads the truths.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I think the manager has a big part to do
- 9:16Speaker 3: with it, and I think it's the guys around. But
- 9:19Speaker 3: as those guys have kind of left the clubhouse, who have.
- 9:23Speaker 4: You feel like?
- 9:24Speaker 3: Because it's hard when you're not playing right, who have
- 9:26Speaker 3: you felt like is kind of try to step into
- 9:28Speaker 3: that role because we know this isn't a season that
- 9:30Speaker 3: you guys expect, especially with the expectation that you guys
- 9:32Speaker 3: have built the last couple of seasons. Who's kind of
- 9:34Speaker 3: stepping into that role and say, hey, guys, you know what,
- 9:36Speaker 3: we're gonna finish this your strongest. Hell, we're gonna, you know,
- 9:39Speaker 3: give it everything we got and kind of let's focus
- 9:42Speaker 3: on the winning and not the individual, you know, element
- 9:45Speaker 3: of the game, because that's what happens when you get
- 9:47Speaker 3: kind of in this end stretch.
- 9:48Speaker 4: You start to kind of me, me, me.
- 9:50Speaker 3: But who's the guy kind of trying to still galvanize
- 9:52Speaker 3: and say, hey, let's win at all costs and that'll
- 9:55Speaker 3: kind of help.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Us roll things into next season. Who's kind of taking
- 9:58Speaker 4: that leadership role?
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's Gunner for sure. It's Gunner Henderson.
- 10:03Speaker 2: You know, I can see you know it's spring training
- 10:05Speaker 2: this year. You know, when you have the whole you know,
- 10:08Speaker 2: you remember how spring training is. You know, there's a
- 10:10Speaker 2: lot of dudes in that clubhouse, you know, the first
- 10:12Speaker 2: couple of weeks, a lot of faces. You don't know,
- 10:15Speaker 2: you're trying to get familiar with a lot of guys,
- 10:17Speaker 2: you do know. You know, anytime we had team meetings
- 10:21Speaker 2: or you know, anything with the whole camp, you know,
- 10:24Speaker 2: Gunner was always you know, taking charge, saying some things,
- 10:28Speaker 2: you know, telling us about things we could do better,
- 10:31Speaker 2: I mean different things.
- 10:31Speaker 4: He was.
- 10:32Speaker 2: He was taking a leadership role early this year, you know,
- 10:34Speaker 2: and you can kind of see that last year. But
- 10:36Speaker 2: this year I think he really stepped forward. And I
- 10:40Speaker 2: think that's somebody who's kind of steering the ship right
- 10:42Speaker 2: now and gives a lot of people, or a lot
- 10:44Speaker 2: of guys on the team, you know, someone you know,
- 10:46Speaker 2: I don't know, just to get some advice, to get
- 10:49Speaker 2: some help.
- 10:49Speaker 4: You know.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Gunner, I mean, awesome guy, you know, awesome clubhouse guy.
- 10:54Speaker 5: He plays hard. The the funniest.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Thing I can say about Gunner is like this dude
- 10:59Speaker 2: could be three for three four for four one or
- 11:04Speaker 2: two Homer, you know, I mean playing having an unbelievable game.
- 11:06Speaker 2: But he's gonna go up to each at bat and
- 11:09Speaker 2: he's gonna grind like it's its own thing. You know,
- 11:12Speaker 2: some guys you might be able to see, you know,
- 11:14Speaker 2: a guy gets a hit and he's like, Okay, I'm
- 11:16Speaker 2: good for the day. I got a knock Gunner. I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 2: it doesn't matter, you know, what a bat, what point
- 11:21Speaker 2: of the game. You know, he's gonna give it his all.
- 11:23Speaker 2: And I think guys see that the way he hustles,
- 11:26Speaker 2: you know, on and off the field. I think I
- 11:28Speaker 2: think guys are really going to look to him, and
- 11:30Speaker 2: you know, he's been able to step up and kind
- 11:31Speaker 2: of getting that leadership role.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Last one for me. As I look behind you, I
- 11:36Speaker 4: see you got the whole crew, Donner, Bliss and comic Cupid.
- 11:40Speaker 4: You got where's Rudolph?
- 11:42Speaker 6: Like?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Have you?
- 11:43Speaker 3: Rudolph has alluded to that's the last one we need
- 11:45Speaker 3: on the wall.
- 11:46Speaker 5: He's up there somewhere.
- 11:48Speaker 4: That's the jersey book we're talking about. Phrase Rudolph.
- 11:56Speaker 2: All right, Yeah, we've put a red we put a
- 11:58Speaker 2: red nose on him, uh years ago.
- 12:01Speaker 5: So people kind of like that.
- 12:03Speaker 4: But all right, that's dope, that's cool. That's it.
- 12:07Speaker 8: I love it, Hey, Grayson, Yeah, yeah, sorry, I was
- 12:12Speaker 8: gonna say, I don't know if you'll ever had venison,
- 12:14Speaker 8: but it is the best meat you can buy.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I mean, it's better than anything in the grocery store.
- 12:19Speaker 2: You know, all these deer that we harvest are eating
- 12:23Speaker 2: and donated to food banks and stuff. So, uh, it's
- 12:27Speaker 2: the meat is spectacular. Just so if y'all ever get
- 12:30Speaker 2: the chance to eat it, try it.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I just had my fourth kid, so you can donate
- 12:34Speaker 3: to the Maving Food Bank.
- 12:35Speaker 4: I'm gonn see my dress. You can send me some
- 12:37Speaker 4: Uh yeah, we do. You love it? We love it
- 12:40Speaker 4: the Carolinas.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, We've got coaches and I've had teammates where,
- 12:45Speaker 2: you know, last off season they send me their dress
- 12:47Speaker 2: and I'll ship it to them. So send me your
- 12:49Speaker 2: dress and I'll send you some stuff.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Say less, brother, say less.
- 12:53Speaker 7: Love that. Hey, So what's the timetable?
- 12:55Speaker 4: Now?
- 12:56Speaker 7: What do you got?
- 12:56Speaker 5: So?
- 12:56Speaker 7: Like, do you know when you're having it? And then
- 12:58Speaker 7: did they tell you what this are between? You know
- 13:01Speaker 7: now in March?
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah, So the surgery is going to be sometime next
- 13:06Speaker 2: week you know, and like I said, you know, thankfully
- 13:10Speaker 2: it's not severe. It's a pretty quick surgery.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Man.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I should be playing catch here in about three or
- 13:19Speaker 2: four weeks after so in about a month and a
- 13:22Speaker 2: half to two months, I mean I should be you know,
- 13:25Speaker 2: back to throwing bullpens, getting off the mound, you know,
- 13:28Speaker 2: doing everything. I'll be able to go into the off
- 13:30Speaker 2: season healthy and kind of have a normal build up
- 13:34Speaker 2: going into spring training to really attack twenty twenty six.
- 13:39Speaker 7: Nice. Okay, So somewhat normal off season is the plan.
- 13:43Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, okay, sure, Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 7: That's great. I love that. Well, good stuff, Grayson. Good
- 13:49Speaker 7: to have you on man.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Good luck right, speedy recovery with it next week and
- 13:54Speaker 1: then we'll catch you. We'll check in with you, and
- 13:56Speaker 1: once you get through all that.
- 13:58Speaker 5: I appreciate y'all very much. Thank you.
- 14:00Speaker 7: Yeah, you too. Good to see a man appropreciate you.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Okay, mhm
